Feedback Silvan door Adrian Baggaley Nothinghamshire
Cauliflower world record: 27,485 kg ; bladeren: 1,80m doorsnee
Hello Daniel, your Silvan berry is disappointing, there are three things that the Silvan berry excels at and that is, vigour, painful spines and cropping. In 2012, which was the worst year ever for gardening over here in the UK, my Silvan was the only star, it literally cropped for around six weeks. The length of run can be anything up to five metres each side of the plant. The fruit is large and sweet, but does not quite have the flavour of a good blackberry.
We tend to freeze all the crop and bring some out of the freezer in the Winter, and Spring, we cook them for a few minutes and eat with yoghurt, absolutely delicious.
This year was my first crop of Crambe (seakale), to me this equals or excels asparagus, as you saw last year I am growing them in tubs as an experiment, I may plant more, traditionally seakale is a Winter vegetable so is most welcome at that time of the year.
You will remember visiting Peter Glazebrook last summer and looking at his giant vegetables, Peter now holds the world record for the heaviest Cauliflower, I enclose picture.
The fruit season is looking good up to now, best wishes Adrian.
