Na decennia van opgravingen denken archeologen eindelijk de ruïnes van de Bijbelse stad Sodom te hebben blootgelegd. De onderzoekers vermoeden dat de restanten die werden aangetroffen in de regio Tall el-Hammam in Jordanië overeenkomen met de Bijbelse beschrijvingen van Sodom in het boek Genesis van het Oude Testament.

De zoektocht naar de mytische stad die door God werd verwoest na morele verdorvenheid van de inwoners is al tientallen jaren aan de gang. De site waar het over gaat, matcht met het feit dat om de grootste stad uit de regio zou gaan die plots werd verlaten en zou dateren uit de periode tussen 3.500 tot 1.540 voor Christus. De locatie ten oosten van de Jordaan komt overeen met de beschrijvingen in het Oude Testament van het gebied waar Sodom in de bronstijd was gevestigd.

Steven Collins van de Trinity Southwestern University in de Amerikaanse staat New Mexico leidt het onderzoeksteam en is er nu van overtuigd dat Sodom is opgegraven. De restanten die werden blootgelegd, wijzen op een grote stadstaat met verdedigingslinies. Op een bepaald moment werd ze verlaten, mogelijk na een grote aardbeving die in die tijd ervaren kon worden als een straf van God.

Sodom en Gomorra waren twee steden waarvan de verwoesting door God in het Oude Testament wordt vermeld. Ze werden volgens de Bijbel in de as gelegd door een regen van zwavel en vuur als een vergelding van God voor het zondige gedrag van de inwoners.

Curiosity bevestigt verhoogde kans op leven op Mars: "Meer vulde ooit Gale-krater" - HLN.be

Marsrover Curiosity bevestigt dat een oud meer ooit de Gale-krater met water vulde, wat de kans op leven op de rode planeet verhoogt. Het nieuws komt in de nasleep van NASA's bekendmaking op 28 september dat er bewijzen werden gevonden van vloeibaar water op Mars.

De Marsrobot onderzoekt de bewuste site rond de Gale-krater en Mount Sharp al sinds de landing in augustus 2012. De nieuwe bevindingen van de wetenschappers achter Curiosity werden vrijdag gepubliceerd in het vaktijdschrift Science. Weer meer kans op buitenaards leven, in het verleden dan wel in het heden, in de vorm van microben.

Volgens het onderzoek "was Mars ooit, miljarden jaren geleden, in staat om water op te slaan in meren over een langere tijdsperiode". De wetenschappers hebben het over de aanwezigheid van water 3,8 tot 3,3 miljard jaar geleden.

video Het Amerikaanse onderzoeksinstituut Battelle heeft een draagbaar wapen ontworpen dat drones kan neerhalen zonder vuurkracht. De DroneDefender gebruikt radiogolven om de vliegende tuigen offline te dwingen.

De technologie dient voor het gebruik in niet-militaire omgevingen. Want hoewel het Amerikaanse leger alsmaar nieuwe manieren blijft uitvinden om drones aan diggelen te schieten, is dat niet meteen praktisch wanneer een toestel bijvoorbeeld een pakje drugs zou willen droppen boven een gevangenis.

"Het kan ons helpen op talrijke plaatsen, van het gazon van het Witte Huis tot basissen en ambassades in het buitenland, van gevangenissen en scholen tot historische sites", zegt Alex Morrow, de technische directeur van het project. "Het is een gemakkelijke en betrouwbare manier om de dreiging te neutraliseren."

Het wapen weegt nog geen vijf kilogram en kan drones tot 400 meter ver raken. Wanneer je de trekker overhaalt, vuurt het wapen een lading elektromagnetische energie af die mikt op de meestgebruikte gps-frequenties en ISM-radiofrequenties. Het doelwit wordt zo op een veilige manier onbruikbaar gemaakt en kan dan geen bijkomende bevelen meer ontvangen van de bestuurder. Dat is in het bijzonder handig wanneer de drone is uitgerust met een explosief.

Vondst 47 tanden gooit geschiedenis mens omver - HLN.be

De ontdekking van menselijke tanden die minstens 80.000 jaar oud zijn, in een grot in China, kan betekenen dat de homo sapiens duizenden jaren eerder dan gedacht Afrika heeft verlaten. Dat blijkt uit een nieuwe studie die gisteren in het vakblad Nature is gepubliceerd.

Onderzoekers uit onder meer Londen en Peking onderzochten een verzameling van 47 tanden. De tanden zijn gevonden in een grot in de provincie Hunan, samen met de overblijfselen van hyena's, uitgestorven reuzenpanda's en andere diersoorten.

"Het was heel duidelijk dat ze tot de homo sapiens behoorden", aldus onderzoekster Maria Martinon-Torres, verbonden aan de University College London. De tanden zijn naar schatting tussen de 80.000 en 120.000 jaar oud. De ouderdom van de tanden kon niet precies bepaald worden. De overblijfselen zijn gedateerd met behulp van minerale afzettingen in de grot en dierlijke resten die ter plaatse werden aangetroffen.

"De klassieke hypothese is dat de moderne mensen Afrika pas 50.000 jaar geleden verlieten", zei de onderzoekster aan Nature. Nu blijkt dus dat "ze eerder zijn vertrokken, ze verspreidden zich door een gebied waarvan we dachten dat ze er voordien niet waren."

De aanwezigheid van neanderthalers in Europa kan een reden geweest zijn waarom de homo sapiens niet verder in het continent kon doordringen.

Did Hitler plan to attack London and New York in UFOs?

As Hitler’s armies began to crumble on fronts as far apart as Stalingrad and North Africa, he turned in increasing desperation to his scientists to create a war-winning super-weapon.

Some, like the V2 rockets and the first jet fighters, saw action but came too late to halt defeat.

Others were so outrageously ambitious that they never got past the drawing board. The idea of building flying saucers to bomb London and even New York could have been just such a scheme.

But now it is claimed that Hitler’s scientists had indeed designed this type of aircraft – and were so far advanced with the project that a prototype may even have flown.

The programme, under the command of SS officer Hans Kammler, was said to have made significant breakthroughs with their experiments, says a report in the German science magazine PM.

It quotes eyewitnesses who believe they saw a flying saucer marked with the Iron Cross of the German military flying low over the Thames in 1944.

‘The Americans also treated the existence of the weapons seriously,’ it adds.

At the time the New York Times had written about a ‘mysterious flying disc’ and published photos of the device travelling at high speeds over the city’s high-rise buildings.

The magazine says that the Germans destroyed much of the paperwork on their activities but in 1960 in Canada UFO experts managed to recreate the device which, to their amazement, ‘did actually fly’.

The project was called the Schriever-Habermohl scheme. Rudolf Schriever was an engineer and test pilot, Otto Habermohl an engineer. It was based in Prague between 1941 and 1943.

Initially a Luftwaffe plan after Hitler ordered his airforce chief Hermann Goering to come up with a super-weapon, it was eventually taken over in 1944 by Kammler.

Prisoners of the Allies claimed to have seen the silvery flying saucer, which was about six yards across, on several occasions.

Joseph Andreas Epp, an engineer on the project, said 15 prototypes were built.

He described how a central cockpit was surrounded by rotating adjustable wing-vanes which formed a circle and gave the craft lift.

After take-off, horizontal jets or rockets were ignited.

After the war, many former nazi German scientists helped with the U.S. space programme.

The theory is further fueled by the claims of Igor Witkowski, a Polish former journalist and historian of military and aerospace technology.

In his book, ‘Prawda O Wunderwaffe’ in 2000, he claims that a bell-shaped craft was being created by the Nazis and that Hitler wanted the best scientists and engineers at his disposal.

Humans love to ponder whether alien life is out there, and what it might look like. So here's a burning question: Would extraterrestrials have sex?

The question isn't entirely prurient. The evolution of sex is a tricky subject. Sexual reproduction is costly. It requires finding a mate, convincing that mate to mingle DNA with you, and opening yourself up to the possibility of sexually transmitted disease or predation while you're busy wooing.

All that considered, and it might not even result in viable offspring. After all, mixing and matching a genome is a crapshoot, said Sally Otto, director of the Biodiversity Research Centre at the University of British Columbia.

7 Huge Misconceptions About Aliens

1.They might not exist

The widespread notion that life probably exists on many or all of the other habitable planets in the universe is largely based on the observation that it arose relatively quickly here on Earth — within a few hundred million years of the planet's formation. But in truth, we know next to nothing about the likelihood of that momentous event. Despite decades of Frankenstein-like effort, we haven't even come close to triggering the genesis of life in the lab.

"Abiogenesis," or life arising from lifeless chemicals, could be exceedingly rare. Life on Earth could be an anomaly.

If you think it improbable that life would only happen once — and that that life would happen be us — that's now known to be a misconception. A pair of Princeton astrophysicists recently applied a new kind of statistical analysis to the early timing of the genesis of life on Earth, and determined that Earth's history says absolutely nothing about the probability of life arising elsewhere. Aliens could be everywhere; they could be nowhere.

2.They won't come in 'person'

As a civilization advances, it tends to let machines do its dirty work. Cars replace horses, nuclear bombs replace infantries, drones replace fighter jets; it's all about increasing efficiency. This rule of thumb can be generalized as an effort by living things to resist the second law of thermodynamics, or the rule that disorder tends to increase in the universe. In fact, "life" is sometimes even defined as an entity that struggles for order. The tenet of physics holds true cosmos-wide, and so any race of beings would be expected to advance in a similar fashion to humans, gradually becoming more and more efficient through the invention of machinery. By the time an alien race is sophisticated enough to trek between stars, they'll more than likely do it from the comfort of their home planet.

"Chances are, the first invaders will be some sort of artificially intelligent machinery," Shostak said.

3.They won't mate with

Human DNA can't combine with XYZ, or whatever it is that encodes alien life. "The idea that they've come for breeding purposes is more akin to wishful thinking by members of the audience who don't have good social lives," Shostak told IEEE Spectrum. 4. They won't eat us

Just as they would not be recognized by the local pathogens as potential hosts, aliens would also not recognize Earth's organic matter as a potential food source. They couldn't digest us. And they probably wouldn't need to, anyway. As Jacob Haqq-Misra, an astronomer at Pennsylvania State University, pointed out, "A society capable of interstellar travel should have solved their development issues such that they do not need humans for food."

5.They're immune to Earth's bacteria

Alien visitors to Earth are occasionally depicted in science fiction as being brought down by their own alien nature. Lacking immunity to Earth-based bacteria, they all die of infections. This wouldn't really happen. "Alien life forms wouldn't come here only to be done in by our bacteria, unless they were related biochemically to humans," Shostak told IEEE Spectrum. "Bacteria would have to be able to interact with their biochemistry to be dangerous, and their ability to do that is far from a sure thing."

6.They didn't put us here

A popular fringe theory holds that humans are alien's gift to Earth. Some people say we were delivered here during a near pass to Earth of a life-bearing planet called Nibiru. This alleged planet, which has not actually been observed by astronomers, is said to skirt the edges of the solar system and swing inward from time to time. [A Field Guide to Alien Planets]

"I get emails every week saying that Homo sapiens are the result of alien intervention," Shostak said. "I'm not sure why aliens would be interested in producing us. I think people like to think we're special. But isn't that what got Galileo and Copernicus into trouble — questioning how special we were? But if we're just another duck in the road, it's not very exciting."

7. Aliens.

A typical Hollywood alien is "soft, squishy and big on mucus," in the words of Seth Shostak, senior astronomer at the SETI Institute in Mountain View, Calif. These sci-fi lumps of goo are inclined to abduct us, probe us, hover above us and even walk among us (in disguise, of course). But far beyond Hollywood's limited scope, aliens might really exist. What are they like, and how would they actually handle a human encounter? Astrobiologists have deduced a few answers by combining their knowledge of life on Earth with their understanding of the cosmos as a whole. Their profile of ET might not be what you expected.

Potential parents "know their genome works in the current environment," Otto told Live Science. "They know they survived to reproduce. And here they are, shuffling their genomes together with another individual. … You have no idea if that combination is going to survive and be fit."

And yet, sexual reproduction is very common on Earth. And given the conditions in which sex evolved, it's quite possible that aliens might get busy, too.

Swapping genes

Not all life on Earth requires sex for reproduction. Amoebas, yeast and millimeter-long freshwater hydra all manage to create offspring solo, as do many invertebrates. So do some surprisingly complex animals: Virgin births have been reported in Komodo dragons, pit vipers and sharks.

There are species, like the tiny crustacean Daphnia middendorffiana, that can only reproduce asexually. But sex appears to go way back. There are few very old lineages that are entirely asexual, Otto said. [Photos: Bizarre Sex Lives of Hermaphrodite Sea Slugs]

Amoebas, for example, date back at least a billion years, long before multicellular life evolved. For a long time, scientists thought amoebas were purely asexual. In 2011, however, researchers from the University of Massachusetts announced that they had discovered amoeba sex.

In fact, swapping genes is the norm for life on Earth. Bacteria, for example, are prokaryotes, meaning they don't have membrane-enclosed nuclei. (Eukaryotes, including both amoebas and animals, have cells with nuclei and other organelles closed in with membranes.) Bacteria don't have sex, Otto said, but they do take up new DNA by swallowing other bacteria or as a result of being infected with viruses or circular DNA molecules called plasmids. The inadvertent genetic gains can benefit bacteria by increasing genetic diversity, thus raising the chances that a new genetic sequence will confer some sort of survival benefit.

Sexual evolution

It's possible, Otto said, that deliberate sexual reproduction arose with the evolution of eukaryotic cells because all those internal membranes prevented the frequent accidental uptake of foreign DNA.

So, one question that might determine whether aliens have sex, Otto said, is what their cells look like.

"Do they evolve nuclei or other ways of protecting their DNA inside a series of membranes?" she said. If extraterrestrial life is equipped with nuclei, they might benefit from sex.

Another thing that Planet Xenon might need to prompt the evolution of sex is change.

Sex is very beneficial to organisms because the environment is rarely static, Otto explained. Offspring may have to deal with challenges that are slightly different from those of their parents' generation. As long as change is a constant, genetic variation is helpful.

If an alien planet had, for some reason, constant weather, temperature and other environmental factors, "sex would have mainly costs, but no benefits," Otto said.

Best of both worlds

Assuming alien planets aren't entirely static, extraterrestrials might try to get the best of both worlds. Some aphids (small insects that suck plant juice) clone themselves asexually when food is abundant. In fact, Otto said, these cloning aphids can have not only their babies inside them but also their babies' babies, "like a set of Russian nesting dolls."

"That really speeds up reproduction when resources are plenty," she said.

At the end of the growing season, though, the aphids switch to sexual reproduction. This switch to sex during times of stress is a common pattern. Some water flea species spring for sex when food supplies drop or when the environment becomes hostile, according to a 1981 study in the journal The American Naturalist. Yeast simply bud off new offspring most of the time, but the yeast Candida tropicalis can also reproduce sexually, researchers reported in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in 2011.

One stress that might prompt the evolution of sex on an alien planet might be alien parasites. Researchers reporting in 2011 in the journal Science found that, when given the choice, organisms pick sex over asexuality when parasites threaten, likely because sexual reproduction gives them more genetic weapons to use in the evolutionary arms race against their parasite foes.

In that study, researchers genetically modified roundworms called Caenorhabditis elegans so that some could only reproduce sexually and some only asexually. A third group was left to switch between asexual and sexual reproduction at will.

Then, the researchers exposed the worms to parasitic bacteria. They found that asexual C. elegans exposed to evolving bacteria went extinct in fewer than 20 generations. Sexual C. elegans did just fine, as did worms that could switch back and forth.

Other studies have shown similar results in yeast and other organisms that can switch from no sex to sex in tough conditions.

Hot stuff?

But even if aliens do have sex, it might not be the sort of thing people watch on pay-per-view.

In amoeba sex, for example, the cell partitions off packets of genetic material and then recombines them, either with another amoeba or with packets from other amoebas. Sexually reproducing yeast cells find each other, grow projections, merge and mate. The hermaphroditic C. elegans worm wiggles its body against another worm until it finds the vulva and then inserts needlelike structures called spicules into the opening to deliver sperm, according to WormBook, an open-access resource on C. elegans biology. Even for fuzzier, more familiar animals, sex can get downright weird. The marsupial Antechinus, which lives in Australia and New Guinea, mates in a frenzy over about two weeks. Males often ambush females and copulate with them for up to 14 hours. The effort of their multiple marathon sex sessions takes such a toll on males that they start to bleed internally and lose all immune function. They rarely survive the breeding season. Hyena males have to mount females with care because the female clitoris is so large that it resembles a penis. And some male bats even stimulate females' genitalia with their tongues.

In other words, aliens might have sex, or they might not. But one thing's for sure: It'd be harder to invent something stranger than what already exists here on Earth.

India Edition International Business Times (International Business Times, IBT) published an ‘exclusive’ story on October 8, alleged in India Manipur a huge see-through cloud-like circle shaped object appeared in the sky.

Apparently, some boys from a students’ hostel at Mantripukhri locality, Imphal sighted a huge strange transparent disc-shaped object at around 1.30pm on Wednesday.

Witness, Lincoln Liba, while speaking to IBT, said that the photos were sent to him a day later.

Some boys from a students’ hostel at Mantripukhri locality of Manipur’s capital city Imphal saw a strange transparent circular object hovering over the neighbourhood at around 1:30 pm onWednesday (7 October), claimed Lincoln Liba.

Interestingly, the round, see-through object is seen just above the residential buildings. One of the pictures even has a rainbow in the backdrop. It appears to be a genuine photo and not photoshopped as a person is seen pointing at the object in one of the pictures.

Some people may take it as lenticular clouds but the possibility is less as it doesn’t look like lenticular clouds seen in the past. The object is also transparent with the clouds and rainbow clearly visible in the backdrop.

Coincidentally after 10 minutes of searching, two photographs VERY SIMILAR surfaced on the internet on October 8rd, found in Malaysian media.

A disturbing video has caused havoc on the internet. In the footage, a flotilla of mysterious lights can be seen descending from the sky and suddenly dividing into multiple unidentified flying objects with flashing lights, floating in the air as people observed the sky in amazement.

After watching the bizarre footage, many people have claimed that we are looking at the beginning of an Alien invasion, Independence Day Reloaded, just that this time, there are no special effects, no Hollywood and no fat lady sinking.

In the video footage we see a huge bright light descending from the sky and a few seconds later, the mysterious lights splits into dozens of ‘miniature’ orbs. Ultimate evidence of extraterrestrial beings? Many people believe that this footage is one of the best pieces of recorded evidence that intelligent Alien beings exist elsewhere in the cosmos.

But what if these aren’t Alien UFO’s? What if we are looking at some kind of strange weather phenomena? Or maybe swamp gas as some users wrote on YouTube?

Well, it might not be swamp gas, but at this time we cannot exclude the possibility of some sort of military technology being tested.

Wetenschappers hebben een ‘bizarre’ ster ontdekt die mogelijk wordt omgeven door een reusachtige buitenaardse structuur. De ster, KIC 8462852 gedoopt, staat op 1480 lichtjaar en is begin 2009 gevonden door de Kepler-ruimtetelescoop.

Onderzoekers hebben geen verklaring voor de vreemde schommelingen in de lichtkracht van de ster. Sommigen van hen beweren dat zich voor de ster een kolossale buitenaardse megastructuur schuilhoudt.

“We hebben nog nooit zoiets gezien,” zei Tabetha Boyajian van de Yale-universiteit tegenover The Atlantic. “Het is erg vreemd. We dachten eerst dat er een fout in de data zat of dat het kwam door de beweging van het ruimteschip, maar alles klopte.”

Boyajian heeft onlangs een paper gepubliceerd over de mogelijke oorzaken. In 2011 werd het bizarre gedrag van de ster voor het eerst opgemerkt. De schommelingen kunnen vijf tot 80 dagen duren. Onderzoekers dachten in eerste instantie dat ze worden veroorzaakt door de passage van een aantal komeetfragmenten.

Sommige experts zeggen dat de fluctuaties worden veroorzaakt door aliens. “Je zou buitenaardsen als allerlaatste mogelijkheid moeten overwegen, maar dit ziet eruit als een bouwsel dat je verwacht van een buitenaardse beschaving,” zei astronoom Jason Wright van de Pennsylvania State University.

Zwerm megastructuren

Wright en zijn collega’s zeggen dat het ongewone lichtpatroon van de ster wijst op de aanwezigheid van een zwerm megastructuren in de buurt van de ster. Hij suggereert dat het gaat om een massa lichtcollectoren die energie van de ster opslaan.

Wright en Boyajian hebben inmiddels gesproken met directeur van het SETI Research Center Andrew Siemion. Ze willen een enorme schotelantenne op de ster gaan richten, waarmee ze eventuele radiogolven kunnen oppikken die wijzen op technologische activiteit. Als de radiogolven interessant lijken, gaan astronomen ze met de Very Large Telescope in New Mexico verder uitpluizen.

Ook groot moederschip boven China

Nadat we enkele dagen geleden zagen dat er zich boven India een groot moederschip vertoonde, blijkt er ook iets dergelijks in China te zijn gebeurd.

Een groep toeristen op een rondvaartboot zag ineens een bijzonder object in de lucht.

Eerder deze week schreven wij een artikel over een bijzonder UFO/wolk boven India. Wat duidelijk geen normale wolk was en wat wellicht een groot buitenaards moederschip is dat net bezig is om zichtbaar te worden bij aankomst vanuit een andere dimensie.

Via een lezer (dank!) werden wij er opmerkzaam op gemaakt dat op 7 oktober een vergelijkbaar incident boven China heeft plaatsgevonden.

Ook hier werd een vreemd gevormde wolk waargenomen, dit keer door een groep toeristen op een rondvaartboot in het Heilongtan Reservoir in Renshou County in het midden van China.

Volgens de getuigen bewoog het vreemde object zich door de lucht.

Zoals ieder keer, wanneer dit soort bijzonder objecten zich vertonen, wordt het afgedaan als de, ja, je raadt het al, de lenswolk.

In dat geval hebben we op dit moment te maken met een wereldwijde epidemie van lenswolken.

Alles is mogelijk, maar nu overal dit soort vreemdsoortige objecten in de lucht opduiken, lijkt er toch een patroon van iets anders te ontstaan. Zeker ook omdat er dikwijls bij dit soort grote moederschepen kleinere UFO’s in en uit schieten.

Dat de situatie in de wereld zo langzamerhand op een zeer kritiek punt aankomt, zou misschien voor buitenaardse rassen het moment kunnen zijn zich te mengen in onze earthly affairs.

Formeel zag men in China een lenswolk. Doorlopen mensen, niets aan de hand.

Er gebeuren trouwens nog meer vreemde dingen in China. Zo zagen mensen in de stad Foshan aan de zuidoost kust van het land een vreemde verschijning in de lucht.

Een vreemde wolk die de vorm had van een complete stad, inclusief wolkenkrabbers.

Het fenomeen duurde een paar seconden voordat de lucht er weer normaal uitzag.

Hebben we hier te maken met een fatamorgana of is het iets anders?

Did prehistoric civilizations with advanced technology exist in the past?

We believe yes, and there are numerous incredible archaeological findings which indicate that thousands, and even millions of years ago, civilizations with extremely advanced technology existed on our planet and just like us, called Earth ‘home’. The materials were submitted to a more extensive research a couple of years after their discovery to find out more about the mysterious objects and their composition and according to the Russian Academy of Science and their department for Geology; the metals have not originated in nature on their own, meaning that they are components that have a artificial technological origin, in other words they were manufactured.

Kenneth Arnold’s alien UFO reflections imply time’s bidirectional arrow

Vancouver, BC – An exclusive video published to YouTube on June 18, 2014, purported to reveal alien origins behind what the Atlantic magazine had cited as a 1947 UFO incident that “introduced the world to flying saucers.” The unprecedented video report filtered pilot Kenneth Arnold’s spoken witness testimony through a lossless digital audio mirror to demonstrate his unconscious sleep talking-like narrative indicating contact with “alien UFOs” during three separate interviews recorded over a thirty year period. This new evidence emerged prior to publication of scientific research suggesting how the thermodynamic arrow of time points in two distinct directions.

Authenticating the pilot’s testimony in the absence of any photographic or other instrumental record offered significant progress in a stagnant research climate where legacy UFO scientists demanded improved methods of witness interrogation. In his evaluation of Project Blue Book as an attempt by the United States Air Force to cover up valid phenomena, astronomer and former United States government UFO scientist Dr. J. Allen Hynek once cited the absence of any Blue Book-improved method of comprehensive witness interrogation.

This critique suggested how Dr. Hynek envisioned possible witness testimony rich in additional details being overlooked by investigators intent upon enforcing an official doctrine of ignorance and denial regarding the existence of UFOs (along with implications of intelligent operators). On June 24, 1947, private aircraft operator Kenneth Arnold told staff at an air strip in Yakima, Washington, how he saw nine supersonic UFOs traveling in formation between Mt. Rainer and Mt. Adams earlier that afternoon. He would participate in a number of subsequent media interviews over a period of thirty years, of which at least three are available online. The new video draws from his June 26, 1947, KWRC radio interview, a May, 1949, CBS Radio Special Report along with on-camera statements reportedly offered during the June 24, 1977, First International UFO Congress in Chicago.

The video subjects these recordings of Kenneth Arnold’s spoken testimony to lossless digital mirror filtering whereby portions of the audio reveal apparently intelligible phrases encrypted backwards within his speech. It is a matter of public record that this innovative analytic procedure (popularized through late-night talk radio during the 1990’s) has revealed the signatures of unconscious sleep talking-like communications disclosing verifiably factual information characterized by military, forensic and clinical precision that anticipated details of the Iraq War, identified the BTK Killer and disclosed Edward Snowden’s UFOs.

Three recurring incidents of any event can invoke notions of planned intelligent actions. Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Norman Mineta has illustrated his personal plan-detecting methodology by citing the rule of three on a number of occasions as expressed in the maxim “omne trium perfectum” (Latin: “Everything that comes in groups of three is complete”).

“When you see one of something happen, it’s an accident. When you see two of the same thing happening, it’s a trend. When you see three, it’s a plan,” said the former transportation secretary.

By such a Mineta standard it can be understood that multiple incidents of the term “alien” encrypted backwards within the recorded spoken testimony of pilot and UFO witness Kenneth Arnold over a 30-year period are no accident and not simply a pattern but are in fact indicative of planned communications leading to the unfoldment of human consciousness and the integration of modern civilization with a larger cosmic society.

The publication of new evidence in support of pilot Kenneth Arnold’s 1947 UFO claims provided new and unprecedented insight into a case that evidenced the power of terrestrial media to capture the public imagination (in what has now become a meme-driven online environment). Concurrently, reported secret messages describing aliens and UFOs appear to contradict orthodox notions of time both in the production of backwards real-time encryption and in transmitting acronyms that would not be formalized until the next decade, years after their appearance in the 1947 KWRC radio interview.

While scientists including Professor & Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies at the UC Irvine School of Social Sciences Kourosh Saberi acknowledge human speech as a multidimensional stimulus, there is presently no published neurological theory that explains the existence of these communications as native to brain performance in human speech behavior. The messages also appear in defiance of the arrow of time as defined by physics, in which time and all time-dependent events flow in one direction only, from past to present to future. The notion of a past which itself originates from the future appears to evade such discussions.

Two distinct, symmetric and opposite arrows of time were recently identified in research that suggests how time’s arrow may move concurrently in two directions. Those findings published this past October in Physical Review Letters explained how a simple “big bang” computer simulation demonstrated the influence of Newtonian gravity on particles expanding outwards along two temporal pathways.

“The authors study one of the simplest possible systems: a collection of N point particles interacting through Newtonian gravity. Their only assumptions are that the total energy (potential plus kinetic) and the total angular momentum of the system are zero. From earlier numerical simulations and analytic analysis, it is known that in the distant future, such a system tends to break up into weakly interacting subsystems—typically, pairs of masses in Keplerian orbits. Starting with such a dispersed system and running time backwards, one might expect that it would coalesce in the past into a state of high density. Barbour and his coauthors show analytically that this expectation is right: for almost every initial configuration of masses, there is a unique moment of minimum size and maximum uniformity. From this point, the system expands outward, approximately symmetrically in both directions of time.”

If the term UFO was officially created in 1953 by the United States Air Force, it also appears in the secret messages derived from a 1947 radio broadcast. This observation may represent wishful thinking and bias on the part of the observer or could provide further evidence of time-independent functions of the human brain in which the past, present and future are all perceived as elements of a singular continuum.

The filtering procedure used to mirror Kenneth Arnold’s spoken testimony has been cited above for its power to forecast future events. Perhaps the apparently time-independent nature of these communications lend themselves best to revealing information that resides beyond the horizon of conventional human time perception, disclosing now-common acronyms that would not come into usage until six years later.

The following partial transcript of Kenneth Arnold’s three interviews describing the events of June 24, 1947, was edited for clarity.

Aliens won’t attack: (1947) As I kept looking at them I kept looking for their tails. They didn’t have any tails. I thought, well, maybe something’s wrong with my eyes. I turned the plane around and opened the window and looked out the window and sure enough I couldn’t find any tails on them. The whole observation of these particular ships didn’t last more than about two and a half minutes. I could see them only plainly when they seemed to tip their wing (or whatever it was) and the sun flashed on them.

Saw my spaceship. A UFO: (1947) They looked something like a pie plate that was cut in half with sort of a convex triangle in the rear. I thought that maybe they’re jet planes with just the tails painted green or brown and didn’t think too much of it but kept on watching them. They didn’t fly in the conventional formation that’s taught in our army. They seemed to weave in and out right above the mountain tops. I would say that they even went down into the canyons in several instances probably 100 feet.

Aliens. Listen. Laugh. They’re real: (1949) They passed almost directly in front of me but at a distance of about 23 miles (which is not very great in the air). I judged the wingspan to be at least 100 feet across. The sighting did not particularly disturb me at the time except that I had never seen planes of that type.

Alien. Need the plan: (1977) Right here we’ve seen something. I’ve seen something. Hundreds of pilots have seen something in the skies. We have dutifully reported these things. And we have to have 15 million witnesses before anybody is going to look into the problem seriously? Why this is utterly fantastic. This is more fantastic than flying saucers or people from Venus or anything as far as I’m concerned.

Astronomers may have found giant alien 'megastructures' orbiting star near the Milky Way

A star identified by the Kepler Space Telescope may harbour structures which could point to an adanced technological civilisation

A large cluster of objects in space look like something you would "expect an alien civilization to build", astronomers have said.

Jason Wright, an astronomer from Penn State University, is set to publish a report on the “bizarre” star system suggesting the objects could be a “swarm of megastructures”, according to a new report.

"I was fascinated by how crazy it looked," Wright told The Atlantic. "Aliens should always be the very last hypothesis you consider, but this looked like something you would expect an alien civilisation to build."

The snappily named KIC 8462852 star lies just above the Milky Way between the constellations Cygnus and Lyra. It first attracted the attention of astronomers in 2009 when the Kepler Space Telescope identified it as a candidate for having orbiting Earth-like planets.

But KIC 8462852 was emitting a stranger light pattern than any of the other stars in Kepler’s search for habitable planets.

Kepler works by analysing light from distant places in the universe — looking for changes that take place when planets move in front of their stars. But the dip in starlight from KIC 8462852 doesn't seem to be the normal pattern for a planet.

Tabetha Boyajian, a postdoc at Yale told The Atlantic: “We’d never seen anything like this star. It was really weird. We thought it might be bad data or movement on the spacecraft, but everything checked out.”

In 2011 the star was flagged up again by several members of Kepler’s “Planet Hunters” team – a group of ‘citizen scientists’ tasked with analysing the data from the 150,000 stars Kepler was watching.

The analysts tagged the star as “interesting “ and “bizarre” because it was surrounded by a mass of matter in tight formation.

This was consistent with the mass of debris that surrounds a young star just as it did with our sun before the planets formed. However this star wasn’t young and the debris must have been deposited around it fairly recently or it would have been clumped together by gravity – or swallowed by the star itself.

Boyajian, who oversees the Planet Hunters project, recently published a paper looking at all the possible natural explanations for the objects and found all of them wanting except one – that another star had pulled a string of comets close to KIC 8462852. But even this would involve an incredibly improbable coincidence.

Northern Lights from space

That’s when Wright, the astronomer from Penn State University and his colleague Andrew Siemion, the Director of SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) got involved. Now the possibility that the objects were created by intelligent creatures is being taken very seriously by the team.

As civilisations become more technologically advanced, they create new and better ways of collecting energy — with the end result being the harnessing of energy directly from their star. If the speculation about a megastructure being placed around the star system is correct, it could for instance be a huge set of solar panels placed around the star, scientists say.

The three astronomers want to point a radio dish at the star to look for wavelengths associated with technological civilisations. And the first observations could be ready to take place as early as January, with follow-up observations potentially coming even quicker.

“If things go really well, the follow-up could happen sooner,” Wright told The Atlantic. “If we saw something exciting… we’d be asking to go on right away.”

Pebbles on Mars Shaped by Ancient Long-Gone Rivers Dozens of Miles Long

Researchers have used the shape of rounded Martian pebbles to extrapolate how far they must have traveled down an ancient riverbed on the Red Planet. The analysis suggests they moved approximately 30 miles (50 kilometers), indicating that Mars once had an extensive river system.

The shape of some Martian pebbles suggests these rocks once rolled dozens of miles down a river, hinting that ancient Martian waterways were stable and not merely ephemeral streams, researchers say.

NASA's Mars rover Curiosity discovered the small, round stones near its landing site in Gale Crater on the Red Planet in 2013. Researchers previously determined that these stones resemble those found in rivers on Earth, which become round as they slide, roll and hop down riverbeds and scrape other rocks.

Now, a new study suggests the Martian rocks rolled in the river for quite a while — a finding that should help scientists reconstruct what ancient Mars was like and shed light on the Red Planet's past potential to support life, study team members said. [Photos: The Search for Water on Mars]

"We believe liquid water is a principal ingredient for life," study co-author Douglas Jerolmack, a geophysicist at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, told Space.com. "Knowing whether pebbles in a river moved 1 kilometer or 100 kilometers [0.6 miles or 62 miles] could tell us how stable water was on the surface of ancient Mars."

The researchers developed a mathematical model to deduce how blocky rocks become rounder and smoother as bits of them chip off due to erosion. Then, the investigators analyzed the shape of the Martian pebbles to estimate the amount of mass each lost due to erosion.

"An object's shape can itself tell you a lot," study co-author Gábor Domokos, an applied mathematician at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, said in a statement today (Oct. 13). "If you go to the beach, natural history is written underneath your feet. We started to understand that there is a code that you can read to begin to understand that history."

To test their model, the researchers rolled limestone fragments in a drum and recorded the changes in their shape and mass. They found that the pattern of changes in the rocks closely followed their models.

Next, the researchers went to a mountain river in Puerto Rico, to analyze the rocks there.

"We started at the headwaters, where chunks of angular rock are breaking off from the walls of the stream, and went downstream," Jerolmack said in the same statement. "Every few hundred meters, we would pull thousands of rocks out and take images of their silhouette and record their weight." The scientists again found that the trend of changes in these rocks closely followed their model.

The researchers also analyzed rocks in an alluvial fan — the fan-shaped deposit of sediment that builds up as a stream flows — at the mouth of a canyon in New Mexico. This area closely mirrors the location where the round pebbles were found on Mars. This work suggested that the shape of the rocks could help scientists estimate how far these stones traveled.

"This is the first attempt to deduce the history of a particle from its shape alone," Domokos told Space.com.

Using publicly available images of the rounded pebbles on Mars from the Curiosity rover mission, the scientists calculated that those rocks had lost about 20 percent of their volume. When they factored in the reduced Martian gravity, which is only about 40 percent of Earth's, they estimated that the pebbles had traveled about 30 miles (50 km) from their source, perhaps from the northern rim of Gale Crater.

This research could also help scientists analyze river-borne particles on other planets and moons, such as Saturn's largest satellite, Titan. "There are pebbles there made of frozen water imaged by the Huygens probe at the mouth of what looks like a river channel," Jerolmack said.

The new method the researchers developed could help analyze not only the history of pebbles in liquids, "but also sand grains in less viscous fluids like air," Jerolmack said. "Our findings can be utilized to look at windblown sediments on Mars, Earth and other planetary bodies where windblown sediments are found."

Despite the extraterrestrial applications, a better understanding of the history of particles "is probably most useful on Earth," Jerolmack said. "Gold and iron ores are often found in rivers, and gas and oil in river deposits, and people will want to know how far pebbles associated with these resources have traveled, to identify their sources."

Astronomen staan voor een raadsel na de ontdekking van een ster waar talloze mysterieuze objecten omheen cirkelen. Het lichtpatroon dat de ster uitstraalt, is bij geen enkele van 150.000 andere bekeken sterren te zien. Een verklaring hebben wetenschappers niet, maar ze vermoeden dat het gaat om werk van buitenaards leven.

Flauwekul
De Nederlandse wetenschapsjournalist Govert Schilling heeft al over de ster gehoord. Hij vindt het idee dat het mysterieuze licht duidt op aliens 'flauwekul'. ,,Er zijn talloze verklaringen die veel logischer zijn, bijvoorbeeld dat het om stof gaat'', zegt hij. ,,En daarvan weten we wel zeker dat het bestaat. Een Amerikaanse wetenschapper zei eens dat je voor buitengewone claims ook buitengewoon bewijs moet hebben. En het bestaan van buitenaards leven is een buitengewone claim, waarvoor geen bewijs is. Je moet pas gaan denken aan buitenaardse wezens als al het andere is uitgesloten.''

Opmerkelijke objecten die rond sterren zweven, zijn mogelijk dé indicatie voor onontdekte wezens in de ruimte. Dat roept het SETI-instituut, dat onderzoek doet naar buitenaards leven, al jaren. En het lichtpatroon van de bijzondere ster lijkt te worden veroorzaakt door, jawel, onbekende objecten.

De ster kwam aan het licht dankzij oplettende burgers. Amerikaanse wetenschappers gebruiken onder meer de zogenoemde Kepler Space Telescope om naar sterren te kijken, maar het menselijk oog kan soms beter patronen ontdekken dan apparatuur.

Daarom hadden wetenschappers de hulp van burgers ingeroepen om vanuit huis mee te kijken naar de 150.000 sterren die de Kepler Telescope observeert. Dat kan niet met het blote oog, maar wel dankzij beelden van de telescoop, die al sinds 2009 naar de hemel kijkt.

Cirkelende objecten
In 2011 viel het meerdere burgers op dat één 'bizarre' ster een heel ander lichtpatroon uitstraalde dan de andere sterren. Ook de onderzoekers hadden nog nooit zoiets gezien. Zij denken dat het lichtpatroon wordt veroorzaakt door een hoop objecten die om de ster heen cirkelt.

Dat zou niet zo raar zijn als de ster jong is. Toen het zonnestelsel ontstond, draaide er tenslotte ook een verzameling stof en andere objecten om de zon (die ook een ster is). Maar: de ster is niet jong. Als dat zo was, zou er stof omheen zweven dat infraroodlicht uitstraalt. En dat is niet zo.

Alien
Wat voor objecten zorgen dan voor het opmerkelijke lichtpatroon? Wetenschappers weten het niet zeker. Het lijkt geen normaal ruimteafval te zijn. Dat zou al lang verdwenen zijn, bijvoorbeeld door in de oppervlakte van de ster te zijn opgenomen.

Het kan gaan om resten van botsende asteroïdes. Of om een enorme groep kometen, meegekomen met een andere ster die dichtbij de bijzondere ster kwam. Of: om een aanwijzing voor buitenaards leven.

Onderzoeker Jason Wright van de Penn State Universiteit denkt dat de objecten bij de bijzondere ster mogelijk een soort lichtpanelen zijn waarmee buitenaardse wezens proberen energie op te wekken. ,,Aliens moeten altijd de laatste verklaring zijn waar je naar kijkt, maar dit ziet eruit als iets wat buitenaardse wezens zouden bouwen'', zegt hij tegen The Atlantic.

Radiostralen
Talloze onderzoekers kunnen dan ook niet wachten om te kijken wat er aan de hand is. Het plan is om een enorme radiotelescoop op de ster te richten en te zien of er radiostralen vandaan komen die duiden op technologische activiteit bij de ster. Als alles goed gaat, gebeurt dat in januari. Tot die tijd is het de vraag of er vanuit de omgeving van de mysterieuze ster wezens naar de wetenschappers terugkijken.

Could mysterious KIC 8462852 star be home to an ALIEN megastructure?

Could this be the smoking gun that proves we are not alone in the universe?

Scientists are baffled by a strange mess of objects that are circling around a distant star, prompting speculation there could be an ALIEN megastructure out there in space.

The Kepler Space Telescope has picked out KIC 8462852, 1,480 light-years away from Earth, as being of particular interest.

KIC 8462852 appears to be giving off a series of bizarre light fluctuations that are so far unexplained.

Tabetha Boyajian, a postdoc at Yale, told the Atlantic that nobody has ever seen anything like the KIC 8462852 star.

Her report on KIC 8462852 goes into great detail about possible explanations for the star.

She said: “It was really weird. We thought it might be bad data or movement on the spacecraft, but everything checked out.”

The star in question appears to be mature, which means typical explanations for when a mess of matter is circling a star do not apply.

Jason Wright, an astronomer from Penn State University, is among those looking into the star, with investigators from the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) also interested.

“When [Boyajian] showed me the data, I was fascinated by how crazy it looked,” Wright said.

“Aliens should always be the very last hypothesis you consider, but this looked like something you would expect an alien civilisation to build.”

AlienUFOBlue

Author of the UFO Investigations Manual Nigel Watson agrees that aliens are a possible explanation for KIC 8462852.

He said: “This is the next best thing to getting a direct message from an advanced extraterrestrial civilisation, as it suggests some form of alien activity. Unfortunately, much like the search for alien radio communications there are plenty of alternative possibilities for these latest findings.

“The search for radio signals or Dyson spheres are based on our own human assumptions about technology, and very possibly advanced aliens are impossible for us to contact or imagine. We can only hope we will stumble on civilisations that have evolved in a similar way to us and have developed technology much like our own.

“Otherwise SETI is a futile enterprise, though KIC 8462852 does give us a glimmer of hope that we are not alone in this vast universe.”
