UFO Sightings Throughout History

UFO sightings have been reported throughout recorded history and in various parts of the world, raising questions about life on other planets and whether extraterrestrials have visited Earth. They have become a major subject of interest, and the inspiration behind numerous films and books. However, sadly they are also the focus of intense ridicule. 

For decades there has been a move, deliberate or not, to diminish the importance of UFOs and create a public belief that UFOs are part of some form of elaborate hoax. Nevertheless, unexplained aerial observations of UFOs have been reported throughout history, from prehistoric times up until the present day.

Some ancient depictions of flying objects in the sky were undoubtedly astronomical in nature, most probably comets, bright meteors and planets that can be seen with the naked eye, or atmospheric optical phenomena such as lenticular clouds. An example is Halley's Comet, which was recorded first by Chinese astronomers in 240 BC and possibly as early as 467 BC. Such sightings throughout history often were treated as supernatural portents, angels, or other religious omens.

However, we cannot just assume that what our ancient ancestors saw and recorded on cave walls or in ancient texts were astronomical or environmental phenomena. Like today’s sightings, there appears to be a small percentage of sightings that are simply inexplicable. Many of the records existing from our ancient past certainly arouse curiosity, such as the prehistoric cave painting above.

The cave painting bears a striking similarity to images painted hundreds of years later in the 16th century Summer’s Triumph Tapestry . UFO imagery on this tapestry also ties in closely with modern-day UFO accounts. There are also the  Aboriginal cave paintings of the Wandjina sky beings , which appear to represent alien visitors.

Mythology of Sky Gods as Early UFO Sightings

Proponents of the ancient astronaut perspective point to numerous myths and legends telling of so-called “ sky gods ” descending from the heavens, while historic texts dating back 4,000 years appear to describe flying spaceships. In the Vedic literature of India, such as the Rig Veda , the Mahabharata, and the Ramayana, there are many descriptions of flying machines called vimanas which were used in warfare in ancient times. The vimanas were said to be able to fly in the earth's atmosphere as well as into outer space, distant planets and be submerged underwater.

In the pyramids of Egypt, archaeologists have found hieroglyphs that resemble the UFOs that are described in sightings up to the present day. Centuries later, we have the pre-Columbian Quimbaya gold artifacts found in Central America, which appear to be perfect models of flying crafts. Later, in the medieval period, there was an abundance of art produced which appear to depict UFOs in the sky.

As debunkers correctly point out, none of these ancient depictions alone can be taken as conclusive evidence of the existence of extraterrestrial life . But they do, at the very least, raise the possibility that extraterrestrials have indeed visited Earth, and that just as people today regularly report sightings of unidentified objects in the sky, so to might our ancient ancestors have encountered objects that they could neither identify nor explain.

UFO Scholarly Debate, Investigation and the Oppenheimer-Einstein Report

Considering the above, it therefore seems sensible that UFOs should be the subject of scholarly debate and scientific investigation. Instead, what we see today is an internet full of fake images, hoax videos, sensational Hollywood movies and misinformation that makes it virtually impossible for a legitimate researcher to separate fact from the very large haystack of fiction.

It also appears that our governments are not exactly forthcoming when it comes to offering information about their own research on the matter. We only need to look at the CIA announcement in August 2013 that Area 51 does exist, despite decades of denying its existence while brandishing anyone who dared to suggest it as a mere conspiracy theorist. Fortunately, there do exist some scientifically-driven organizations, such as SETI and MUFON (Mutual UFO Network), which take an objective approach to the study of UFOs.

This brings us to an unclassified top secret document written by Robert Oppenheimer, an American theoretical physicist, and Albert Einstein , a German theoretical physicist. Together they wrote a joint report entitled “Relationships with Inhabitants of Celestial Bodies”. The six-page document is the first archival evidence to use the phrase “Extraterrestrial Biological Entities” or EBEs. Dated June 1947, the Oppenheimer-Einstein report states that the presence of unidentified spacecraft is accepted as de facto by the military.

The Oppenheimer-Einstein report deals with issues related to UFOs and extraterrestrials: Where extra-terrestrials may come from, what the law say about it, what we should do in the event of colonization and/or integration of peoples, and why they are here. The document suggests that in the event that EBE's desire to settle here on earth there will be "profound change in traditional concepts" of law and the possible need for a new "Law Among Planetary Peoples."

The Importance of the Oppenheimer-Einstein Report for UFO Scholarship

This document is important for two reasons. The first reason is that it addresses the possibility of life on other planets in a very logical and coherent way, before exploring what such a realization would mean. It also raises questions about why, if respected scientists such as Oppenheimer and Einstein are able to approach the subject in an academic way, are we unable to engage in such sensible discussion today?

The analysis presented by Oppenheimer and Einstein indicates that “disclosure” of extraterrestrial existence could cause irreversible damage to society. This raises the possibility that our governments today may already know of extraterrestrial existence but have considered the same issues raised by Oppenheimer and Einstein and ruled against public disclosure.

If humanity were told that that intelligent extraterrestrial beings not only exist but have been visiting our planets for thousands of years, what would happen. Could it be that confronted with such evidence would cause social upheaval in the domains of religion, society, law, and finance? If not addressed properly, could this cause chaos on planet Earth?

There are many questions that still need answers. The document suggests that EBEs could be more intelligent and technologically advanced than us, and asks why, if this were the case, they come to Earth in the first place? Would it be to conquer and inhabit Earth, to peacefully cooperate with humans, or to study us in the same way that we study any new species that we encounter? The document considers, if their civilization is more advanced than ours, how could a co-occupation of Earth be feasible?

Can Humanity Handle Access to Advanced Extraterrestrial Technology?

Imagine the situation in which advanced technology is given to our civilization – powerful defense systems, unlimited energy, cloaking devices, space travel to other solar systems, instant transportation devices, and so on. Now considering the current state of our civilization and the people that govern it, what would such a release of technology mean? One word: Chaos.

Another reason that the Oppenheimer-Einstein report is important is because it addresses the presence of alien UFOs on our planet as a fact known to the military. It goes on to relate this knowledge to our invention of nuclear bombs – the single weapon that could eliminate life on Earth for many thousands of years.

It is not hard to understand that if UFOs are kept hidden from the public, it is for multiple reasons, which are logically addressed in this document. It is for these reasons, that we may never see a disclosure of extraterrestrial existence in our lifetime.

In the meantime, it seems that the most sensible approach is to keep an open mind. It is usually the case that a debate rages between two opposite extremes. One side wants to believe wholeheartedly that the cave art and mythological accounts are all descriptions of alien encounters and UFO sightings.

Meanwhile, the other side is so prepared to disbelieve that anything exists beyond the scope of their reason that they will ignore even the most blatant rendition. If scientists can overcome the ridicule and disparaging remarks that come with exploring the subject matter, perhaps one day we will find irrefutable evidence that UFOs and extraterrestrials do exist.

Many artists throughout history have claimed some sort of otherworldly inspiration (the muses, for instance). But the visionary American artist Paulina Peavy (1901–1999) may be one of the only to attribute her talents to communications with a U.F.O.—specifically one named Lacamo. 

During Peavy’s lifetime, she enjoyed many early successes, including showing with Los Angeles’s Stendahl Gallery, studying with Hans Hofmann, and exhibiting work at the opening of the San Francisco Museum of Art—all before falling into art world obscurity.

The new exhibition “Paulina Peavy: An Etherian Channeler,” on view at the Beyond Baroque art center in Venice Beach, is hoping to reintroduce Peavy as a powerful and one-of-a-kind creative force in the nascent southern California art scene of a century ago.

The fascinating show, curated by Laura Whitcomb, marks the first exhibition of Peavy’s work in California in 75 years, and traces her myriad creations —paintings, films, drawings, intricate masks—from the 1930s into the 1980s. Various ephemera related to theosophy and astroculture are also on view in a series of vitrines, along with some of Peavy’s own writings, which detail the elaborate occultist belief systems that informed her work. 

Even before UFOs got involved (and we’ll get to that later), Peavy’s story was one against the odds. She was born in Colorado to a miner father and a Swedish immigrant mother. In 1906, the family moved to Portland following the Oregon Trail. Peavy’s mother would die tragically a few years later. In spite of the gender conventions of the time and her own humble origins, Peavy would attend Oregon State College (now Oregon State University), studying art with Farley Doty McLouth and Marjorie Baltzell. While a student there, she received recognition in a national competition hosted by the Art Students League in New York. After moving to Southern California, she received a scholarship to attend the Chouinard Art Institute, where she would later study with Hans Hofmann.

In the 1920s, Peavy began to play a pivotal role in the emerging West Coast art scene. She established the Paulina Peavy Gallery, which also functioned as a salon and school, hosting classes for the Los Angeles Art Students League. Like many other artists of the age, Peavy had interests in the supernatural and was loosely affiliated with the occult-inclined art group the Group of Eight, as well as the Synchromists and a group of West Coast surrealists led by artist Lorser Feitelson.

But her true moment of breakthrough came in 1932, when Peavy, by now the mother of two and in the midst of a divorce, attended a seance at the Santa Ana home of Ida L. Ewing, a pastor of the National Federation of Spiritual Science. During a séance there, Peavy claimed to have encountered a discarnate entity she called Lacamo, which she later described as a “wondrous ovoid-shaped UFO.”  It was an event that would have a profound impact on Peavy and her work for the rest of her life—because Lacamo, she said, revealed great universal truths which she attempted to convey through her art. (She sometimes co-signed her works with Lacamo.)

At the core of these revelations was a complex cosmology consisting of 12,000-year cycles with 3,000-year seasons. The summer of these seasons harkened a kind of utopia in which human beings transcended the limits of their earthly bodies to become spirits, freed from their sexes and entering “one-gender perfection,” as well as a singular cosmic race. 

She also looked to other artists for inspiration. Peavy was fascinated by the Mexican muralists, particularly José Clemente Orozco who also shared a deep interest in hermetic and indigenous traditions, particularly philosopher José Vasconcelos’s belief that a great cosmic race would be born out of the Americas (Peavy exhibited 30 of her paintings at the Golden Gate International Exposition of 1939-40, where Diego Rivera exhibited mural work. She also painted a 14-foot mural titled The Eternal Supper, depicting a “Last Supper” filled with androgynous, racially ambiguous figures which had its debut at the San Diego Fine Arts Gallery (now San Diego Museum of Art) in 1941.)

In drawings and films on view in the exhibition, one sees Peavy alluding to pyramidal shapes and the icon of the Pharaoh, an image that would remain central to her visual lexicon. Within her complex cosmology, the Egyptian era stood as paramount, but one can also see these forms as drawings from the Maya and Aztec lineages heralded by the muralists.

Undoubtedly, the most striking part of the exhibition are Peavy’s paintings, in which androgynous faces appear against darkened foregrounds, veils and wisps of colors hauntingly hovering above. For Peavy, who didn’t title or date her works, these paintings were ongoing revelations, and many are the result of 50 years of experimentation. Starting in the 1930s, Peavy employed a signature technique of layering translucent colors, then later, in the 1970s and ‘80s, she often returned to these paintings adding abstract crystal shapes that she believed would make viewers’ more receptive to transcendence and Lacamo’s unearthly wisdom. 

“She was instructed [by Lacamo] that her painting could change viewers’ neural pathways so that the viewer could become, over time, a receiver. In other words, the paintings were meant to increase neuroplasticity that would make viewers more psychic and more receptive as channelers themselves,” said curator Laura Whitcomb.

Another fascinating portion of the exhibition includes a collection of intricately adorned masks that offer a window into Peavy’s practice as a channeler. As art objects, these many-layered masks, which she would wear while communicating with Lacamo, straddle both Surrealist objects and indigenous traditions. As with many women artists before her, Peavy also worked in costume design. In college, she had drawn Surrealist costumes for a campus magazine. Later, in New York, she helped support herself by making costume designs for a fashion house. 

Still, everything Peavy created was primarily intended to celebrate her belief system. “Paulina considered herself a philosopher and wrote a number of manuscripts, but most poignantly made films which could elucidate her cosmology,” said Whitcomb. Yet, in her time, these beliefs cast Peavy out of the mainstream art world.

“She has this incredible pedigree where she showed with Delphic Studios—Alma Reed’s gallery—and at the same New York gallery where Agnes Pelton showed abstract works. Peavy was articulate, intelligent, very well educated in the arts, but when she identified her discarnate entity Lacamo, in the aftermath of the war, when there was this fear and anxiety over the UFO phenomenon and the Roswell incident, everyone dropped her and thought she was absolutely crazy,” explained Whitcomb. “These were dangerous ideas to be affiliated with and could get you in a lot of trouble, even on an FBI list.”

Peavy made her way henceforth by selling her work, not through galleries but through Albert Bender’s Space Review, one of the most important periodicals of UFO culture of the era, and showing work in astroculture conventions. “She became something of an astroculture celebrity,” said Whitcomb. “She realized the art world was very fearful.” 

Now, times have changed and spiritualist women artists such as Hilma af Klint, Georgiana Houghton, and Agnes Pelton are widely celebrated. “In the lead up to the Second World War, many artists were experimenting with the occult—Artaud was casting spells against Hitler. And the past years have been very scary,” said Whitcomb. “I feel like recent interest in the occult had to do with creating a cosmic balance and then we’re reminded of artists’ roles as shamans.”

Now and again, people will ask me how traumatic can a UFO event be. Worse still, what if the events continue on and on. And on even more. I thought I would share with you today just one example of how the UFO phenomenon can create almost never-ending stress and terror. The story comes from a man named Daryl Collins; a man who I came to know more than a decade ago and who made it clear to me that getting into the UFO subject could be highly dangerous. With that said, read on. As Daryl told me in 2017: “In early June of 1986 (don’t recall the exact date), I was just coming from a discussion of my abduction memories and approaching the parking lot to drive home.  A white-haired lady in dark or black clothes drove by in a dark or black car.  As she approached me she slowed down, leaned out her window, and yelled at me, ‘You have nine years until what you were made for! You have nine more years!’ Then she sped up and drove away.  I didn’t catch the license number, make of car, or any other details.  But I distinctly remember what she yelled, since I spent the next nine years haunted by what might be awaiting me in early June of 1995.  When the date finally arrived, there were smells suggesting the things might have been in the house, but otherwise nothing happened.  The literature is full of cases where predictions failed to come true; maybe they just change their minds.”

As I read Collins’ account, I couldn’t fail to remember how – at the height of his Men in Black encounters in the early 1950s – Albert Bender found his Bridgeport, Connecticut home filled with overpowering odors of brimstone and sulfur. What goes around clearly comes around, too. In light of the above, I wasted no time in asking Collins a few questions. January 19, 2017: “There followed some kind of physical examination.” On the particular matter of his abduction experience as a young boy, nine days later Collins shared with me his Woman in Black encounter. He told me: “Approximately April or May 1945, an extremely bizarre encounter. I was playing in the backyard when I spotted a creature about my size, an elf perhaps, which communicated telepathically. It merged its body with mine, and controlled my movements. We went out the back gate and down several streets to an area that at that time was still wild country. We found a hole in the ground and jumped in, falling a fair distance, stopped, and entered a strange room and walked down a corridor. The corridor led to a door which swung open, and the elf separated from me. There followed some kind of physical examination, then I was back in my yard quickly forgetting the whole incident. Long ago I described the details to Budd Hopkins, and he said he had many similar cases.”

Collins also told me: “In 1948 my parents and I were driving at night on a deserted rural highway. An object came over and lifted the car into a big round room. A door opened and three creatures, with clawed webbed toes and stubs for fingers, took each of us in different direction. I followed one down a long dark corridor to a brightly lit room with an examining table and a gray with long bony fingers. He stuck a sharp instrument into my stomach, then a different instrument far up my right nostril. When he pulled it out, my nose bled a little and was sore for hours.  Then he took an instrument like a black cone and pressed the point to my forehead, producing a strange vibrating sensation. Apparently he was activating an implant that had just been put in place. He said, telepathically, ‘It will be all right from now on.’ Abruptly we were all back in the car and the whole episode was forgotten.”

There was more: “I don’t remember the date, but once I was confronted with a large insectoid which said, ‘I want you to devote your whole life to me!’ I didn’t understand and asked what that meant. I don’t remember what the creature said, but I replied emphatically, “No, I won’t!” This evidently didn’t go over very well.  In January 1950, I was taken at night from my home by skeletal creatures who said they were going to kill me. I begged for my life, reminding them of the time they had said: ‘It will be all right from now on.’ So instead they put me on the table and performed extensive procedures. Finally they abandoned me, and all the memories were lost for very many years. As far as I can tell, I was never abducted again. When I first encountered ‘flying saucers’ in the newspapers that March, I immediately adopted the subject as the center of my life, but it never occurred to me to wonder why, nor to suspect it had anything to do with me. In view of Collins’ experiences of the UFO variety as a young child – in 1945 and 1948 – it seemed to me hardly surprising that he received a chilling message from a Woman in Black in the 1980s. I knew only too well that both the MIB and the Women in Black often intrude upon the lives of those who have had profound UFO encounters – and sometimes years later. And the experience is seldom, if ever, positive in nature. It certainly wasn’t for Daryl.

As the sand runs out of the 2021 hourglass (ask your grandfather for an explanation), everyone is issuing their ‘Best of 2021’ lists. Today we look at the Best Orb Sighting of 2021. And the winner is?

“It’s amazing – it’s a real mystery why the light dropped. It’s some of the best footage I’ve seen this year.”

That nomination comes from Christian Jensen ‘Chris’ Romer, chairman of the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena (ASSAP) – a UK “scientifically-orientated educational and research charity and learned society dedicated to a better understanding of anomalous phenomena.” He should know his orbs when he sees one … right? Here’s a video from an outdoor surveillance camera in Norfolk, England, of what Chris Romer is referring to. (Video here.)

Did you see it? What did you think – was it the best orb YOU have ever seen? After viewing the video, would you consider Chris Romer to be a “paranormal whizz” as The Mirror and other media sources refer to him?

Now THAT’S an orb.

“At the same time, my neighbor said that before the houses were built in this place, there was a factory where they made bricks. And local workers in the evenings wore such headlamps. So it could be the ghost of one of the workers.”

The unnamed owner of the video thinks she recorded a ghost of a miner still wearing his helmet, and she points out the light seems to be on half of a body. However, she’s convinced it wasn’t a live person – miner or otherwise – because her neighbor’s camera didn’t pick it up. A local folklorist says he can’t rule out a ghost yet.

“The uneven movement of the fire makes me wonder if this fire is being carried by someone who, for some reason, does not appear in the frames. Besides, in our places there are tales of ghost fires and cadaveric candles. I assume there is a natural explanation for this, but I can’t say definitively without further research into this video.”

Cadaveric or corpse candles (ignis fatuus ) are often reported over marshes or in churchyards or outside of houses and are said to be harbingers of death. Folklorists say the size indicates the age of the victim – a small pale blue light is said to signal an infant death. The owner of the video doesn’t seem to mention any deaths. Paranormal News also quotes parapsychologist Dr. Becky Smith, who doubts it’s a ghost but can’t explain why “the figure seems to duck about halfway.” Did you see it? (Watch the video again.)

Whatever the orb is, it hardly looks to this writer like something worthy of the designation ‘Best Orb of 2021” – unless 2021 was a particularly bad year for orbs. Could it be because the coronavirus is orb-shaped? In fact, Chris Romer is said to admit it’s probably not paranormal activity and is more likely to be someone carrying a mobile phone with the light on with their body not seen because of poor lighting. It sounds like Romer may have been taken out of context … and the term “whizz” was applied by the media, not him or his organization.

There’s still a little time left to 2021 – charge up your phone and go orb-hunting … you could be the Best of 2021 in something!

Laatste ‘onaangeroerde’ mummie van het oude Egypte geeft zijn geheimen prijs

Amenhotep, een farao die zo’n 3.500 jaar geleden over Egypte regeerde en de laatste onaangeroerde mummie, heeft zijn geheimen prijsgegeven. Dankzij een nieuwe onderzoekstechniek is hij daarbij onaangeroerd gebleven. Dat schrijven de onderzoekers in het vaktijdschrift Frontiers in Medicine.

Amenhotep regeerde over het oude Egypte tussen 1525 en 1504 voor Christus. Na zijn dood werd hij gemummificeerd en zijn overblijfselen bleven vrijwel onaangeroerd: een unieke kans voor het onderzoeksteam van Sahar Saleem. Haar beroep? Saleem is geen archeologe, zoals je misschien zou denken, maar wel een radiologe verbonden aan het Egyptian Mummy Project.

Met behulp van enkele CT-scans slaagden Saleem en haar team erin om enkele indrukwekkende 3D-beelden te maken van Amenhotep. Op die manier konden ze zijn uiterlijk tot in de details reconstrueren, van zijn tanden tot zelfs de juwelen waar de farao mee begraven werd. “Hij had opvallend goede tanden voor iemand die 3.500 jaar geleden leefde”, zo verraadt Saleem.

I was going over a Planetary map of Mercury looking for structure when I found more then I had expected. In this video below, I show you six structures in six minutes as I discuss the possibilities of life on Mercury. The buildings appear ancient but they are massive in scale...some reaching 10km tall and 15km wide. Some do not conform to human idea of structures, but some do. I do not expect everyone to agree with me on this, but these alien had millions of years ahead of us to develop and evolve...we will have difficulty grasping the shapes of their structures, because we wont understand their way of thinking. When you live in a culture different from your own, when something is done differently than you were raised to expect...it will first make you uncomfortable, angry and confused. The 'world's most advanced' humanoid robot can be seen moving someone's hand out of the way when it gets into their 'personal space' in a new video clip.

Named Ameca, it is built by British firm Engineered Arts, and its development is being shared on YouTube.

In the latest clip, the robot, which bears an uncanny resemblance to the terrifying creation in the Will Smith blockbuster I, Robot, takes umbrage at a nose poke. 

A researcher moves their finger closer and closer to Ameca, until the robot grabs the hand and moves it out of its face. 

Engineered Arts, based in Cornwall, has not revealed how much the robot cost to make as it is still in development.

Tech firm will pay you £150,000 to use our face on its ROBOTS  

Engineered Arts hopes Ameca will offer people a glimpse of the future because it 'represents the forefront of human-robotics technology'.

'Designed specifically as a platform for development into future robotics technologies, Ameca is the perfect humanoid robot platform for human-robot interaction,' the company said on its website.

'We focus on bringing you innovative technologies, which are reliable, modular, upgradable and easy to develop upon.' 

Engineered Arts was formed in 2005 and its first robot was a mechanical 'Thespian' for the stage. 

Of the latest development, the firm said: 'Ameca reacts as things enter their "personal space". 

'This is even starting to freak us out at Engineered Arts and we are used to it!' 

Users commented on the video, sharing amazement at how realistic the robot appears to be. 

One said: 'No specific race or gender. Leaves those to the imagination. Fluid movement. Beautiful design. Not creepy. Good muscle and skin movement. Well done.'

Another user wrote: 'It's amazing how it's the extremely minor things, like blinking and subtle facial distortions, that make her appear to be a real living person.'

While Ameca can't walk at the moment, the firm says it is working on a walking version, and designed the robot to be modular and upgradable. 

'There are many hurdles to overcome before Ameca can walk. Walking is a difficult task for a robot, and although we have done research into it, we have not created a full walking humanoid,' the firm said.

Engineered Arts also produces a robotic head, known as Adran, which has 22 custom actuators that allow it to move its eyes and mouth just like a human. 

Adran is what Engineered Arts describes as a 'Mesmer', a system for building realistic humanoid robots that are powerful, elegant and cost-effective.

According to the Cornwall-based company, Mesmer robots can display a huge range of human emotions, and can be made to look like anyone.

'Each Mesmer robot is designed and built from 3D in-house scans of real people, allowing us to imitate human bone structure, skin texture and expressions convincingly,' it explained.

On December 24, 1954, around a dozen people gathered on the front lawn of a house to sing Christmas carols to UFOs coming to save them from the end of the world.

The Seekers were formed in Chicago by Dorothy Martin, who claimed that she was a messenger for an alien lifeform known as The Guardians, who predicted a catastrophic flood that would kill billions.

Martin first believed that she could communicate with her late father by clearing her mind and holding a pen to paper to allow him to write through her, according to the podcast Cults.

These claims were dismissed by her mother and husband but Martin's beliefs only grew stronger.

The then 54-year-old worked to develop her alleged gift but said her father's voice was replaced by another who named himself only as Elder Brother.

The power first said that he was aiding her father to speak to her but soon altered his tone and accused Martin's dad of being too consumed with Earthly things.

Elder Brother took over the conversation and Martin's dad soon disappeared.

However, the voice of Elder Brother was also taken over by a being named Sananda who claimed to be the reincarnation of Jesus.

Sananda, Martin said, was from The Guardians who had chosen her as a messenger as they planned to bring cosmic intelligence to the rest of Earth.

At first, Sanada's messages were vague and gave no cause for concern but began to turn dark as Martin earned herself cult followers.

The housewife had reportedly struggled to understand her meaning in life and had visited new-age events in an effort to find more purpose.

It was at one of these events that she came to the attention of Dr. Charles A. Laughead, who then worked on the student health staff of Michigan State and had an extreme interest in UFOs and flying saucers.

As he became a follower of Martin's and recruited others, Sananda's messages began to speak of The Guardians' arrival on Earth and how it would bring about a time of warfare that much of humanity would not survive.

Again, Martin felt that the lack of an exact date for this war prompted no need for worry until in July 1954 the messages became more certain.

Sananda began to say that on August 1, 1954, a spaceship would land at an airbase that would mark the coming invasion.

Martin had wanted to keep the information to herself but Laughead spread the word to followers who by this point had become known as The Seekers.

FIRST DISAPPOINTMENT

When they visited the airbase, The Seekers picked a spot to wait yet nothing happened.

Yet as the group went home disappointed, Martin then claimed that a man they had met close to the airbase was Sananda in disguise.

The messages she received began to get more serious with Martin claiming that an ancient civilization was to emerge from the ocean and kill millions.

Yet she said that The Seekers would be saved by The Guardians.

Again, Martin didn't want to risk failure by sharing the message but Laughead was the one to try to tell the world.

As she tried to stay out of the spotlight, more people heard about her message and school children began to come to the door, asking if she was the woman who believed in aliens.

When parents began to call the police, Martin knew she was on notice but Laughead continued in his quest to tell as many people as possible.

That was until he was asked to leave his job after the calls to police and became more insular, allowing no new people to join The Seekers.

Martin also became paranoid and began to refuse to leave her home.

FOLLOWERS LEAVE JOBS & FAMILIES

It was at this point that her husband finally became concerned as her followers began to leave their job and families in order to ready themselves for the UFOs bringing them to safety.

The Seekers were now convinced that The Guardians were set to arrive on December 22 and they began prepping themselves for abduction by removing all metal from their clothes.

However, on December 17, 1954, Martin received a phone call from a "Captain Video" that told them to go out onto the lawn to wait at midnight.

While the call was likely a prank, the group emerged to wait and when nothing happened, convinced themselves that Sananda had carried out a drill to prepare them for the real deal in five days' time.

Martin readied The Seekers for the moment of truth at the strike of midnight on December 22.

By now, Laughead's efforts to get attention to their salvation had mounted serious media attention and the press was on hand to watch their coming ascension.

The group of a dozen followers waited until 3am in the cold before giving up and before once again being convinced by Martin that the end of the world was still coming and aliens would save them, this time on Christmas Eve.

CHRISTMAS EVE CAROLS

While the press had again given up interest, leaving Martin despondent that The Guardian had not given her enough time to rally people together, she managed to encourage the followers remaining that singing was key to entice their saviors.

As night fell on Christmas Eve, they emerged to wait once more - this time screaming carols to the heavens.

When a crowd of up to 200 people gathered to watch the commotion, the police were called once more and after only 20 minutes, The Seekers gave up hope.

Shortly afterward, Martin's husband was warned that there was a warrant out for her arrest over the crowd that had gathered outside the home and she fled to Arizona.

It is unclear if he went with her but the cult disbanded.

Martin's followers fell to the wayside yet Laughead still continued to push the belief at UFO conferences.

While Martin's premonition did not come to fruition, The Seekers contributed to one of the most important psychological breakthroughs in years.

The term "cognitive dissonance" was coined after a study was published by researchers who had infiltrated the group to explore how the followers had convinced themselves to continue, even when they were presented with evidence that Martin's statements were false.

Researchers also believed that Martin was not lying and truly thought that she was a messenger.

In Arizona, Martin went on to found the Order of Sananda and Sanat Kumara (the names of two of the Guardians), calling herself “Sister Thedra.”

She died aged 92 in 1992.

Dark Sand Formations on Mars Seem Disturbingly Artificial and Organized

After ages of uncertainty, we now know for a fact that there is no sign of existing intelligent life on Mars. Yet one can’t help from thinking about how that might have been, if it ever existed, when images such as the one we have here are released by the people who are constantly surveying the planet.

 Nilosyrtis region of Mars - Nilosyrtis Mensae is an area of Mars in the Casius quadrangle. It is centered on the coordinates of 36.87° N and 67.9° E. Its western and eastern longitudes are 51.1° E and 74.4° E. North and south latitudes are 36.87° N and 29.61° N. Nilosyrtis Mensae is just to the east of Protonilus Mensae and both lie along the Martian dichotomy boundary.

It marks a region of transition (a "crustal dichotomy") between southern highland and northern lowland terrain, and consists of isolated peaks and mesas. On average, the drop in elevation between the two terrains is 5,500 meters (18,000 feet).

Nilosyrtis region of Mars - Nilosyrtis is one of the sites proposed as a landing site for the Mars Science Laboratory. However, it did not make the final cut. It was in the top 7, but not in the top 4. The aim of the Mars Science Laboratory is to search for signs of ancient life. It is hoped that a later mission could then return samples from sites identified as probably containing remains of life. To safely bring the craft down, a 12-mile-wide, smooth, flat circle is needed. Geologists hope to examine places where water once ponded. They would like to examine sediment layers.

With the help of the HiRISE camera that has been going around Mars for years now, snapping photos of the place, we got to see things up there we normally wouldn’t have seen, which are now fueling our imagination. Using its fancy filters and other hardware, the HiRISE is not only capable of giving us glimpses of the place in hues we normally don’t expect to see on the Red Planet, but can also create what seems like artificial features.

Layers in Monument Valley. These are accepted as being formed, at least in part, by water deposition. Since Mars contains similar layers, water remains as a major cause of layering on Mars.

The black and white image we have here was captured by HiRISE back in 2011, from an altitude of 299 km (186 miles). It shows an area of just 5 km (3 miles) of an impact crater in the Nilosyrtis region of Mars, a place which has “numerous layers exposed along its floor,” formed after the impact.

Those are features one would normally expect to encounter on the planet, and so are the black dunes seen here. Blackened by the HiRISE filters to the extreme, they’re not necessarily curious because of their color, but on account of how organized and artificial even they seem in this processed picture.

The theory is that these dunes were formed after the sand was blown by wind into the region from the surrounding terrain.

Nilosyrtis is a place on our neighboring planet filled with cliffs, mesas, and flat valleys. Scientists believe that sometime in the distant past it was covered by glaciers, hence a large amount of underground ice is likely to still exist under the surface.

On July 28, 1995, the U.S. Government Accountability Office’s report on the Roswell affair surfaced from its National Security and International Affairs Division. The GAO’s report did not provide any smoking-guns – such as old B&W photos of dead bodies and wreckage at the crash-site on the Foster Ranch, New Mexico. The report did, however, provide something interesting and controversial. And it’s something that has been misinterpreted for years. During the course of their search for records to try and better understand what had taken place at Roswell in early July 1947, the GAO learned that the entire outgoing messages from the Roswell Army Air Field generated during the period that the event occurred were missing. Vanished. Gone. And under circumstances that could not be fully determined and proved. Nor could the year in which the files went missing be confirmed. Maybe the late-forties. Maybe the fifties. The seventies? Who knows?

This, inevitably and very understandably, led certain Roswell researchers to proclaim that this was evidence of a significant event of UFO proportions having occurred. An event which certain elements of officialdom were determined to keep forever hidden from the populace, the media, and the UFO research community – and possibly, even, from anyone else in government who might dare to come looking, such as investigators of the GAO. Maybe, that’s precisely what happened. But, the story is not quite as straightforward as that. Matters are seldom straightforward when it comes to Roswell. Time and again, I have heard UFO researchers say, words to the effect of: “Because the 1947 files are missing, this must mean the government or the Air Force pulled them years ago, so no-one could get the files on the aliens.” Sure, that’s not impossible. But, there is another issue. The files in question that are unavailable to us do not cover just the key period of the Roswell affair. Rather, they extend as far back as March 1945 and as late as 1950.

Don’t get too exited: cool models at Roswell, New Mexico

We are led to believe that if aliens crashed a couple of hours’ drive from Roswell, then it was an event that occurred out of the blue, with little or no advance notice, and certainly not something that had been anticipated for a significant period of time. So, that being the case, why the need to pull files from as early as March 1945 to hide something that is said to have occurred, without much warning (if any at all), in the summer of 1947? Proponents of the notion that aliens crashed not too far from the city of Roswell might say that the government was just being overly careful, and wanted to make sure that (a) nothing was left behind, and (b) nothing had been misplaced in an earlier collection of material, or indeed, within a later collection of material, possibly held in secure safes at the base. So, they chose the best and quickest option available to them and scooped up pretty much everything that covered approximately two years or so before, and up to two-and-a-half years after the crash. And, maybe, that is exactly what happened. On the other hand, one can make a valid argument that the vanished files issue has no bearing on Roswell from an extraterrestrial perspective, because the documents that are missing include papers dating from two years before the event even took place. This also offers a theory (and, granted, that’s all it is) that there was another reason for the large-scale loss of material that the GAO sought to uncover. Let’s see what the GAO had to say about this matter of missing messages in its 1995 report:

“In addition to unit history reports, we also searched for other government records on the Roswell crash. In this regard, the Chief Archivist for the National Personnel Records Center provided us with documentation indicating that (1) RAAF records such as finance and accounting, supplies, buildings and grounds, and other general administrative matters from March 1945 through December 1949 and (2) RAAF outgoing messages from October 1946 through December 1949 were destroyed.” When the GAO demanded to know the reasons behind this development, they got an answer, as GAO files note: “According to this official [the Chief Archivist for the National Personnel Records Center], the document disposition form did not properly indicate the authority under which the disposal action was taken. The Center’s Chief Archivist stated that from his personal experience, many of the Air Force organizational records covering this time period were destroyed without entering a citation for the governing disposition authority. Our review of records control forms showing the destruction of other records – including outgoing RAAF messages for 1950 – supports the Chief Archivist’s viewpoint.”

At the crash site on the Foster Ranch, a few words about the legendary incident

So, in other words, we have yet another explanation that does not include high-level conspiracy to explain the loss and destruction of files, but which says far more about bureaucracy. So, what’s my point in all this? Well, this is my point: Yes, it certainly is intriguing that half-a-decade of certain files are missing from the old Roswell Army Air Field, and it may even be an issue of deep conspiracy to hide the remains of dead aliens and their craft. Or, it may not be. If UFO / Roswell researchers wish to maintain that the missing files from 1947 point to a specific cover-up of the Roswell event – and Roswell occurred out of the blue in July of that year – then they have to provide a viable reason as to why documentation dating back as far as March 1945 was pulled too, and why additional documentation remains missing from as late as 1950. Saying that “the outgoing Roswell messages from July 1947 are missing” is absolutely true, and it opens eyes and it catches the attention of ufologists and Roswell disciples everywhere. Noting that, in reality, the files actually cover 1945 to 1950, and also cover general administrative issues at the base, is far less attention-grabbing.

Ironically, the fact that the files which have vanished (files which still cannot be found) span 1945 to 1950, actually adds weight to the idea that Roswell was a military experiment. Just about everyone I spoke with while writing Body Snatchers in the Desert told me that the human experimentation began in 1945 and ended in the late 1940s – with a few additional tests having occurred in the early fifties. Pulling 1945-era files for a one-off event that didn’t occur until the summer of 1947 makes zero sense. Pulling certain 1945-era files that might have compromised the handful of pre-Roswell experiments – had they reached the public domain, of course – makes perfect sense. The same goes for the decision to make the 1948-1950 files vanish, too. The fact is that six years of files are missing, not just files from the time of the Roswell crash. This is indicative of a fairly lengthy series of ongoing tests that had to be hidden – not the out-of-the-blue crash of one solitary alien spacecraft midway through 1947.

It should also be recalled that President Clinton’s Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments revealed that “…a number of potentially important collections could not be located and were evidently lost or destroyed [italics mine]. Similarly, the Committee reveals, a number of those same document collections related to experiments undertaken in the fields of biomedicine, defense and space exploration; and in the great majority of these cases only fragmentary data remained. Where programs were legitimately kept secret for national security reasons, states the Committee, the government often did not create or maintain adequate records [italics mine], thereby preventing the public, and those most at risk, from learning the facts in a timely and complete fashion.” All of this is highly suggestive of an agenda to make Roswell go away – permanently.
