Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

Zijn er sporen van leven aangetroffen in een meteoriet van Mars? Een groep wetenschappers zegt dat microscopische tunnels in een stuk steen van de rode planeet lange tijd geleden kunnen zijn gevormd door organismen. De studie is gepubliceerd in het tijdschrift Astrobiology.
Kleimineralen, microtunnels en koolstofrijke bolletjes in de meteoriet doen in alle opzichten denken aan soortgelijke structuren in aards basalt, waarvan algemeen wordt aangenomen dat ze het resultaat zijn van biologische activiteit. Dat zou erop kunnen wijzen dat er miljoenen jaren geleden ook leven aanwezig was op Mars.
De nieuwe studie komt 18 jaar na de aankondiging dat onderzoekers mogelijk bewijs van levensvormen op Mars hadden gevonden in een andere meteoriet, ALH 84001 geheten. De meteoriet werd wereldberoemd omdat NASA dacht dat deze meteoriet het bewijs zou zijn voor leven buiten de aarde. Veel wetenschappers zeiden echter dat de ‘microfossielen’ in de komeet waren gevormd als gevolg van abiotische factoren.
De meeste wetenschappers reageren nu ook sceptisch op de studie in het tijdschrift Astrobiology. Volgens Chris McKay van het Ames Research Center van NASA in Californië zal de wetenschappelijke gemeenschap niet concluderen dat de tunnels in de meteoriet zijn gemaakt door organismen.
De hoofdonderzoeker van de studie uit 1996, David McKay, was ook betrokken bij de nieuwe studie in Astrobiology. McKay, die vorig jaar overleed, werkte destijds in het Johnson Space Center van NASA in Houston. Het onderzoeksteam zal de 13,5 kilogram zware meteoriet Yamato 000593 blijven bestuderen. Volgens wetenschappers is de ruimtesteen 1,3 miljard jaar geleden gevormd op Mars en landde hij zo’n 10.000 jaar geleden op Antarctica. Ongeveer 12 miljoen jaar geleden moet de meteoriet bij een zware inslag op het oppervlak van de rode planeet de ruimte zijn ingeslingerd.
The National UFO ALERT Rating System has been updated for March 2014, with California, Florida, Texas, and New York moving to a UFO Alert 3 as the highest reporting states with 25 or more cases during the month of February 2014, filed with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).
California was the leading high-reporting state in February with 59 cases, down from 102 January cases. Those states in a UFO Alert 4 category with 13 or more reports include: Arizona, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Washington, Georgia, and New Jersey.
All other states move to a UFO Alert 5 category with lower numbers of UFO activity. The Watch States – with 10 or more cases – are North Carolina, Ohio, Illinois and Oregon.
MUFON released February statistics March 1, where the total number of reported UFO sightings is listed by state. The UFO Examiner uses these statistics to rate states. The entire country was moved back to the lowest alert level – UFO Alert 5.
California takes the lead with 59 cases; Florida, 39; Texas, 29; and New York, 26.
Those states with 13 or more reports, the next reporting tier level, are a UFO Alert 4 status: Arizona, 21; Pennsylvania, 17; Michigan, 16; Washington, 16; Georgia, 15; and New Jersey, 13.
Our Watch States this month are – with 10 reports or more: North Carolina, 12; Ohio, 11; Illinois, 11; and Oregon, 10.
The sphere remains the most-reported UFO shape with 91 cases; down from 240 January cases and 141 December cases. Other shape reports include: Other, 60; Circle, 59; Disc, 52; Unknown, 51; Star-like, 46; Triangle, 45; Oval, 31; Fireball, 26; Cigar, 14; N/A, 10; Boomerang, 9; Flash, 8; Cylinder, 8; Saturn-like, 6; Egg, 5; Bullet/Missile, 5; Diamond, 4; Teardrop, 4; Blimp, 3; Cone, 2; and Cross, 2.
The object's distance from the witness includes: Less than 100 feet, 82 cases; 101 to 500 feet, 85 cases; 501 feet to one mile, 120 cases; over one mile, 120 cases; unknown, 145; and no value stated, 12.
In addition, there were “21 landings, hovering, or takeoffs reported and 1 entity observed.”
The most interesting UFO reports do not necessarily come from high reporting states – but those states with higher numbers do account for some of the most interesting evidence to study. While UFO sightings seem to pop up randomly around the country, this list is meant to offer a small insight into where Americans are filing reports.
Latest-UFO-Sightings: Indian Air Force Detects UFO In Its Radars Near India-Pakistan Border
The Indian Air Force (IAF) decided to use its Su-30MKI after detecting a slow moving unidentified flying object through its radars. The UFO was coming from International Border with Pakistan and going towards India. It came near to two civilian flights flying in that area.
According to IAF sources, they were in red alert after observing a UFO from Pakistan entering its border and came near to two civilian flights. Considering the danger of the UFO, the IAF immediately dispatch its Su-30MKI to intercept the unknown flying object.
The IAF noticed the UFO flying at 28,000 feet so, they asked the air traffic to clear the altitude between 25,000 and 30,000 feet.
Later on, the Su-30MKI described that the object looked like a weather balloon that was flying with the wind heading to the border and it returned its original position after being in the air for around 20 minutes.
The two civilian planes were Thai Airways and another foreign operator. They were flying about 10 nautical miles away from the IAF jet.
The IAF denied rumors of near miss incident involving their aircraft as they were operating in an area that was officially cleared and under a positive radar coverage.
Further investigations about the UFO incident near Indian-Pakistan border have been conducted.
As most credible UFOlogists readily admit, proving that extraterrestrial spacecraft have visited our planet is a maddeningly difficult chore.
“The hassle over the word ‘proof’ boils down to one question: What constitutes proof?” Edward J. Ruppelt, who headed the U.S Air Force’s secret investigation of UFOs in the early 1950s, once wrote. “Does a UFO have to land at the River Entrance to the Pentagon, near the Joint Chiefs of Staff offices? Or is it proof when a ground radar station detects a UFO, sends a jet to intercept it, the jet pilot sees it, and locks on with his radar, only to have the UFO streak away at a phenomenal speed? Is it proof when a jet pilot fires at a UFO and sticks to his story even under the threat of court-martial? Does this constitute proof?”
More recently, Investigative journalist Leslie Keen, author of the 2011 book “UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go on the Record,” has noted that in roughly 90 to 95 percent of UFO sightings, observers turn out actually to have seen weather balloons, ball lightning, flares, aircraft, and other mundane phenomena. But another five to 10 percent of sightings are not so easily explainable, but that’s not the same as demonstrating that they are extraterrestrial in origin. Nevertheless, she argues, the hypothesis that UFOs are visitors from other worlds “is a rational one, and must be taken into account, given the data that we have.”
Here is some of the most compelling reasons that UFOs may be more than simple misidentifications of natural phenomena or terrestrial aircraft:
01-The long, documented history of sightings.
UFOs were around, in fact, long before humans themselves took to the air. The first account of a UFO sighting in America was back in 1639, when Massachusetts colony governor John Winthrop noted in his journal that one James Everell, “a sober, discreet man,” and two other witnesses watched a luminous object fly up and down the Muddy River near Charlestown for two to three hours. There are documented sightings of what were then called “airships” during the 1800s as well, such as the July 1884 sighting of a Saturn-shaped UFO (a ball surrounded by a ring) in Norwood, NY, and a fast-moving object that briefly hovered over the startled townspeople of Everest, KS in 1897.
02-Numerous modern sightings by credible, well-trained professional observers.
In Ruppelt’s 1955 book , “The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects,” he documented numerous instances of military service members, military and civilian pilots, scientists and other credible professionals who had observed UFOs. In one instance, Ruppelt describes the experience of a pilot of an Air Force F-86 fighter jet, who was scrambled to track a UFO and got to within 1,000 yards of a saucer-shaped object that abruptly flew away from him in a burst of speed after he fired upon it. He also mentions a 1948 UFO encounter in which two airline pilots got to within 700 feet of a UFO and saw two rows of windows with bright lights.
03- Consistencies in the descriptions of purported alien ships.
Over the decades, witnesses who’ve seen UFOs have shown remarkable consistency in the shapes and other characteristics of the objects they’ve described. In 1949, the authors of the report for Project Sign, one of the early military investigations of UFOs, identified four main groups of objects—flying disks or saucers, cigar or torpedo-shaped craft without wings or fins, spherical or balloon-shaped objects that were capable of hovering or flying at high speed, and balls of light with no apparent physical form that were similarly maneuverable. Nearly a quarter-century later, a French government investigation headed by Claude Poher of the National Center for Space Research found similar patterns in more than 1,000 reports from France and various countries. One caveat is that in recent years, reports of wedge-shaped UFOs—which bear a similarity to the latest terrestrial military aircraft—have begun to supplant some of the traditional shapes.
04-Possible physical evidence of encounters with alien spacecraft.
The 1968 University of Colorado report, compiled by a team headed by James Condon, documented numerous instances of areas where soil, grass, and other vegetation had been claimed by witnesses to have been flattened, burned, broken off, or blown away by a UFO. A report by Stanford University astrophysicist Peter Sturrock, who led a scientific study of physical evidence of UFOs in the late 1990s, describes samples of plants taken from a purported UFO landing site in France in 1981. French researchers found that the leaves had undergone unusual chemical changes of the sort that could have been caused by powerful microwave radiation—which was even more difficult to explain, considering that they found no trace of radioactivity at the site.
The Sturrock report describes in detail various symptoms reported by individuals who had encountered UFOS, ranging from burns and temporary deafness to persistent nausea and memory loss. Among the most vivid examples: Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum and Landrum’s young grandson Colby, who reportedly happened upona“large, diamond-shaped object” hovering over a Texas road in December 1980. All three became ill afterward; Cash, for example, developed large water blisters on her face and swelling that closed her eyes, in addition to severe nausea and diarrhea. The effects persisted for years, and she was hospitalized more than two dozen times.
Reports
Respected polls reveal that half of all adult Americans believe UFOs are real and 12% claim to have seen one.1 Credible UFO experts estimate the number of alleged sightings worldwide in recent decades to be perhaps in the millions.2
This fascination has given rise to a number of UFO religions or cults, including the Aetherius Society, the Unarius Academy of Science, and the Raelian Movement. The Aetherius Society and the Raelian Movement have claimed more than several thousand members at their peak. The Heaven’s Gate cult received wide press attention following the mass suicide of 39 of its members in 1997. The group believed that by committing suicide they would join a flying saucer trailing the Hale-Bopp comet.
The beliefs of UFO cults are centered on three ideas: (1) flying saucers are physical crafts, (2) people receive channeled messages from alien intelligences associated with flying saucers, and (3) these messages are of immense importance. These groups have an occult ancestry and engage in various occult practices.
While it may be tempting to dismiss the phenomenon as the captivation of eccentric or sectarian groups, most UFO reports come from average people. And while UFO experts estimate between 90 and 95% of all reported UFOs are either natural phenomena, hoaxes, or man-made crafts, some 5 to 10% defy such explanations.
Reasoning
Three popular explanatory hypotheses have been proffered in an attempt to explain these residual UFOs (RUFOs).
The Misidentified Hypothesis (MIH): This position asserts that if 90-95% of UFO reports have natural or human explanations then maybe all of them can be so explained. Cornell astronomer and popular science writer Carl Sagan reflected this view: “Although it is not possible to prove that all UFOs are misapprehended natural phenomena, there are no compelling reasons to believe otherwise.”3
The Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (ETH): This view states that UFOs are physical realities (literal spacecrafts) piloted by interplanetary visitors. These space aliens represent what is thought to be a vastly advanced civilization (technologically, and possibly morally and spiritually) that studies mankind, and will, at the appropriate time, make contact with humanity. Outspoken advocate of the ETH, Stanton Friedman remarks “the evidence is overwhelming that some UFOs are alien spacecraft.”4
The Interdimensional Hypothesis (IDH): This theory holds that UFOs are a real phenomenon that may exhibit physical and empirical effects, but whose origin and nature belongs not to extraterrestrial spacecraft, but to another dimension of reality beyond our time-space continuum. Sometimes described as the paranormal/occult view of UFOs, some UFO experts (especially Christian) have ascribed a demonic interpretation to this alleged extra-dimensional presence. Such leading secular UFO experts as Jacques Vallée have argued for a correspondence between the UFO phenomenon and the occult or demonology.5
Using what logicians call abductive reasoning, the best explanatory hypothesis is balanced between complexity and simplicity, is coherent, corresponds to the facts, avoids presumptions, is testable, and thus has true explanatory power. In applying this approach to UFOs it is evident that all views have their difficulties. Nevertheless, while the vast majority of UFOs have natural explanations (possibly 99%), RUFOs consistently defy a natural explanation. So the MIH does not explain all the data. The ETH, which calls for traversing vast distances of interstellar space, exhibiting behavior that violates the laws of physics, and sustaining untold numbers of spacecrafts, is scientifically, technologically, and logically untenable. The IDH also has weaknesses (physicality of reports, difficulty in validating psychic-like phenomena), but seems to offer the most explanatory power. RUFO-related phenomena strike an objective person as being real, but not physical, being deceptive in nature, and possibly malevolent in intent. Also, a biblical case can be made that RUFOs reflect a demonic influence. One should be cautious, however, about drawing any hard and fast conclusions about UFO phenomena.
Response
Christians can communicate several things when engaging the culture in UFO discussions. First, in the highly improbable event the existence of physical extraterrestrials will be proven, this development would not disprove Christianity. The Bible reveals God created all things, regardless of where they reside. The God of the Bible is not a mere Earth-based deity, but is the transcendent Lord of the entire cosmos. Second, RUFOs are for the most part a religious phenomenon and religious beliefs have real consequences, as was evidenced in the case of the Heaven’s Gate cult. And third, historic Christianity provides powerful and livable answers to life’s ultimate questions, and those answers are more convincing than anything RUFO phenomena can provide.

I also totally agree with my colleague, Tomas Scolarici who said:
“The UFOphenomenon is not a threat to our security.
The same phenomenon neither was a threat for the Sumerians or Romans, or Indians”.
“There is no such thing as a cover-up, and the authorities know as little about the nature of the UFO phenomenon as ourselves.
They learned however that the UFO phenomenon is not a threat for our Security”.
(Despite the often reported “mischievous”, “oppressive”, “tricky”, “deceptive” nature of the phenomenon, in addition to their rather “primitive” modus operandi, such as their alleged “abductions” of humans, definitely not a sign of any physical visitation of highly advanced, intelligent civilizations from outer space……in fact, it almost seems to me that it all tantamounts to “demonic activity” of some kind and, if so, the government would not touch it with a 10 foot pole!! ).

Perhaps these could be the reasons why the government cannot officially make any comments, aside from the likelihood that they are unwilling to make any statement that goes beyond our present knowledge of empirical science, going into such areas as “paranormal phenomena” and “religious manifestations” (including “beliefs”).
Could the phenomenon be a momentary, holographic intrusion from some type of a “parallel s or intelligence”?
Could it be some form of “time-slip”, interdimensional “accident”?
We just don’t have the answers.
And the government is not in the business of going into these areas!
Could the entire phenomenon be some form of religious manifestations or religious manipulations by a power which we cannot comprehend simply by physical pursuit, a power which apparently is capable of presenting an “instant” (but only temporay) “appearance” or “illusion” of being a physical phenomenon to the observer?
If so, then the government will never make any statement of that nature.

We recently received an email from someone who witnessed an interesting high speedchase in 1983. The events took place in Roanoke, a town in Denton County, Texas and part of the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex.
The witness remembers driving to work at 4 or 5 AM (this was in 1983, so exact details may be a little blurry) and noticing “these swiftly dancing whiter than white objects”. While trying to get a grip and figure out what was happening, “military jets appeared out of no where”. “That was the scary” remembers the witness. The mysterious jets were loud and they were flying low.
Our witness is sure that they were after the UFO. They didn’t succeed in their attempt to get close to the UFOs, “the crafts took off at a higher speed then the 3 jets”. We do not have any pictures or videos of the events. Here is the full, unedited part of the submission that was published: It was approximately 4-5 am, driving to work, I sighted these swiftly dancing whiter than white objects (sometimes hovering) lights in the sky.
It seemed about 1 mile or less above. By the time I could get a handle on ‘these are UFO‘s’…. Military jets appeared out of no where! That was the scary, then curious part……extremely loud and extremely low. Faster then 2 blinks of an eye it was all over. They obviously where after the crafts, 4 of them I think. The crafts took off at a higher speed then the 3 jets.
Fasinating to say the least!! I was quite stymied the entire day and never said, ‘hey, guess what I saw on the way to work today’?

Prior to the first visitation by the US Navy’s Nautilus nuclear powered submarine beneath the northern polar ice cap in 1957, the newly formed USAir Force was forced to patrol the skies over the North Pole, Bering Straights, and Aleutian Island Chain that ran perilously close to the Siberian border of the Soviet Union. B-29 Super Fortresses, the same bomber that had carried the plutonium or A Bomb to Nagasaki and Hiroshima to end World War II, now conducted aerial reconnaissance over the Arctic.
In these vast regions of ice fields and frozen arctic oceans the carefully guarded boundaries of the Soviet Union and United States maintained a tense peace time patrolled by bombers, first generation targeting radars, and the navies of the two super powers as the “Cold War” played out. Everyday Air Force bomber crews maintained vigilance over thousands of miles of ice and snow fields occupied by tiny Inuit villages in the most remote and brutal conditions that man could claw out an existence in.
In 1949 Wendell Stevens commanded one of the early warning patrols that scanned the skies and frozen terrain for enemy movements, threats of invasion, or attempted aerial intrusion into American air space. These men flew long hours in sometimes treacherous conditions to insure a safety for the American homeland that only vigilance could insure in the face of hostile political ideologies that threatened to clash at anytime. As the Russians developed their plans for their first nukes and began building huge rockets from captured V-2 plans using German scientists prisoners, the American military, being the first to ever deploy nuclear bombs was now locked in an arms race with the Soviet Union.
However, as reported by former Air Force Colonel, Wendell Stevens, something even more bizarre was manifesting itself out there in the frozen altitudes of the northwestern frontier. Something that would change his life forever, and make him aware of another reality that was every bit as real as the Cold War, but much more mysterious and less easily monitored than anything the Russians were capable of deploying.
As arctic surveillance crews cruised the northern altitudes seeking contact with possible Russian bomber crews a strange thing happened over and over again.
These huge reconnaissance bombers were rigged for photographic intelligence work, fitted with wing to wing camera arrays designed for recording any enemy movements that could be interpreted as aggressive or militarily oriented as threats. However, they came face to face with something else. As each crew flew their lonely missions they began to capture video footage of something strange and bewildering!
Disks were seen and photographed that sat on the arctic ice, took off from the frozen surface, and even plunged into the frigid arctic ocean! This was captured on their wing mounted cameras. Sometimes the B-29 crews found themselves followed by these amazing unconventional aerial craft that were elliptical in shape with mirror-like metallic skin. These unknown airborne crafts would sometimes fly alongside aircrews while they frantically photographed the strange aerial intruders who made no radio contact while seemingly testing the capabilities of the USAir Force aviators.
Wendell Stevens and his men would hustle over to beneath the wings of the B-29’s as they landed and begin downloading the precious film data that revealed someone else was out there. Someone more advanced, someone whom we knew nothing about, yet seemed to be able to master our airspace with their incredibly elegant disk shaped vessels that easily outdistanced the US B-29’s at will making photographic study sometimes difficult even with high speed cameras.
Each time the crews landed, Colonel Stevens was there with his ground crews off loading the valuable filmed evidence and rushing it to the proper intelligence channels while keeping the fantastic sightings a under wraps. If it wasn’t the Russians who had designed and built these advanced vessels, Stevens often wondered, then who? The possibilities were maddening as each successive aircrew brought in their gigantic bombers now fitted for surveillance with camerafilm that revealed a new friend or foe up their in those high and vast stretches of frigid air space. Colonel Stevens finally came to the conclusion that an intelligence that exceeded man’s capabilities was out here in the frozen fringes of the arctic, ready to flash across the windscreens of the pilots at fantastic speeds, or just fly alongside the bombers pacing them as they flew.
The B-29 crews were mystified by what they’d seen. Yet, they were ordered by high command not to discuss or divulge what they were witnessing while they flew over the northern ice cap in air search mode for any seemingly hostile Russian aircraft or war ships in the narrow arctic seas that remained passable during some months in spring and summer. This was the beginning of SAC (Strategic Air Command) now being developed under the tutelage of General Curtis LeMay, who, years later, would make a public admission to an interviewer that there were things his air crews had encountered that could never be explained pertaining to UFO’s.
The year before in July 24,1948 2:45 AM Captain C.S. Chiles and Officer Whitted flying on Eastern Airlines Flight 576 from Houston to Montgomery, Alabama encountered a cigar or rocket shaped object that they met on a head on course. The unknown object turned at terrific speed in front of their prop driven airliner revealing what appeared to be a row of portholes or windows as the tail of the craft burned a cherry red. The two pilots, another pilot onboard, and a passenger, along with two other aircraft in the area all reported a flying saucer at that time sequence. The sighting left both pilots shaken up. Wright Patterson air intelligence questioned the witnesses along with Doctor J. Allen Hynek’s Project Sign personnel who also investigated.
In the very same year of 1949 thousands of miles from where Air Force officer, Wendell Stevens was busy with his polar reconnaissance command, an alarmingincident took place in Texas. The pilot of a Mustang P-51 was flying near San Antonio when he encountered a hostile UFO that dove on his aircraft time and time again forcing the stunned pilot to execute one radical evasive maneuver after another to avoid a collision with the unknown craft. Finally, the Air Force pilot was able to make an emergency landing at San Antonio Airfield, the air control tower there had listened to his hysterical voice transmissions prior to his landing. Upon setting down on the runway and landing, the frantic pilot was immediately met by intelligence officers for a debriefing on the incident. It seems in the year of 1949 there was an unprecedented amount of unknown and potentially dangerous air traffic in the skies of the United States, and the Air Force simply did not know who or what was responsible for the spine tingling encounters that were being experienced all over the skies of the nation.

A large bright white orb was being followed or escorted by some type of military helicopter. The path was mostly straight with only the sound of the one helicopter heard. Thet both went over head and continued west. The front white glowing orb slowly vanished from view as I caught it all on video. Then the object seemed to have jumped to the right hand side of the sky instantly; being seen glowing in the clouds that are due for rain. Helicopter continued until out of sight on its own.

Witness said: Photo of six sets of lights above horizon, no sound heard, headed directly toward my position. This picture was taken by my cellphone camera. Late afternoon. The view is looking east south east from the back deck of our cottage. The setting sun is behind me and it was illuminating the sky and clouds which i thought was a nice picture. I did not look at the picture immediately but about one month later. I did not notice the lights (shown in photo) over the horizon at the time. Nor did I observe any aircraft in the area or passing over my position. Our lake consists of mostly seasonal cottages and as a result is very quiet at that time of year, late october. I did not hear any sounds such as aircraft. There is a Canadian forces base about 150 km south east of our cottage. I was quite surprised when i looked at the picture as I didn’t notice anything abnormal at the time the photo was taken. There are six sets of lights in formation all about the same elevation and the appear to be parallel with each other. When the picture is enlarged the lights are dual, like headlights.

News said: Incredible object caught near Jupiter, which seems to have a core shaped like the number “8″. The four frames (gif) indicates it has a flight path, this rules out lens flare in my opinion. Whatever this object is, its huge in scale, and its heading our way, so further sightings of this mysterious object should be forthcoming. What could it be? Alien Mothership, Extraterrestrial Biosphere, or something else? As always you decide.
At first it seemed like an airplane approaching my place with unusually bright light (VERY BRIGHT). However, it was same color, from anticipated wingtip to wingtip; orange to yellow, VERY bright. I thought it was a plane, just unusual and VERY bright lights, and wanted to take a picture, but it was short past sunset. Although still like normal day for the eye, the camera only got darkness with a glowing thing. It came closer and thus I saw more of its shape, got confused, ran for the magnifying hunting glass I had stored away. Through the glasses, it had the size of a 1 or 2 EURO coin. However, at that time it was almost over me. To my big surprise, no more lights – and no wings. It was a round disc in dark gray, similar to how military forces would paint their crafts. Since it looked on approach like a plane, it must have been a quite flat disc. It definitely lost a lot of height between first spotting the bright light and the flyover. The only sound I heard was some sort of humming like of a generator in the distance – and that may well have been it. I’ve heard similar sounds a lot here and never got the source. Probably the ironworks, train line or somethng else. So my best guess is, all was silent. I’m close to two airports. I’ve seen many and very unusual planes, but that turned out to be a surprise. I don’t know any disc-shaped planes and all planes still have visible lights when they fly over me. I checked flight radar and there was no matching aircraft registered for that time period and flight path (west to east). I could provide the photo, but better not. The camera completely failed. It wasn’t dark and it just got a bright orange dot with camera shake trail while to the eye it wasn’t a dot on that distance plus clouds as well as trees/leaves in the distant were easy to be seen. A new video published to YouTube on March 1, 2014, documents a stunning UFO incident recorded by one local astronomer’s triple-camera array from the deck of a Yaletown apartment in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Former skeptic now leading local UFO videographer Charles Lamoureux custom-engineered what he calls his “Skywatchers Mobile Unit” (SMU) imaging platform while anticipating nights with clear skies filled with mysterious objects.
According to the witness, the UFO shown pulsating in the video during its initially slow-moving descent over West Vancouver’s Cypress Mountain was not anticipated by online satellite tracking applications, including Heavens-Above. The incident reportedly occurred at 8:44 p.m. PST on the night of Friday, February 28, 2014.
Initially spotted at 50 degrees above the horizon, Charles Lamoureux offered a comparison between this object’s luminous performance with that of a Fourth of July fireworks display in an email sent to this reporter that evening. Such a brilliant display as the one shown in the video raises the possibility of other potential witnesses in the region who may have resolved this event either with the naked eye or by using their own camera systems.

Panasonic HC-V510
The Panasonic HC-V510 Full-HD camcorder is a consumer-series high-definition palmcorder emphasizing affordable high-magnification HD imaging via Panasonic’s Intelligent Zoom function.
According to the manufacturer, Intelligent Zoom features 80x magnification power to draw distant subjects up close to the observer. While this camera’s tiny single 1/5.8″ BSI MOS Sensor and small-diameter 28mm-equivalent objective lens may offer some diminishing returns in terms of image over-sharpening and limited low-light sensitivity, the telephoto reach for something so small and portable (far lighter and more space-efficient than a telescope) remains very impressive.

Yukon Digital NV Ranger 5×42
The Yukon Digital NV Ranger 5×42 is a reliable and inexpensive night vision optic that uses a digital sensor to resolve near-infrared images beyond the range of visible light. With a fixed 5x telephoto objective lens this monocular’s night vision sensitivity makes it a great spotter scope to aid in acquiring images with less-sensitive but higher resolution systems like the HC-V510 described above. Built-in NTSC video output capability allows for recording direct from the Ranger’s SD sensor to external portable DVRs and other devices.
Luna Optics LN-DM50-HRSD
The Luna Optics LN-DM50-HRSD is a relatively new product first introduced in 2013 that has captured the attention of UFO skywatchers (including members of the UFONV forum) offering a built-in 720p HD recording capability as well as switchable black and white and low-lux color night vision images in HD resolution.
Both affordable and innovative, the LN-DM50-HRSD’s low-lux color recording feature positions this device as a potential solid-state replacement for the legendary tape-based 0 lux professional series Panasonic AG-DVC30 “Ghost Hunters” camera. In simple terms of cost of operations, continued reliance upon purchasing MiniDV tape as a necessary consumable for operating the DVC30 is superseded by the convenience of the DM50’s ability to record digital files directly to inexpensive SD memory cards.
In an email response to this reporter’s inquiry, Luna Optics, Inc. President Vladimir Savchik states further how his company will begin to release “a full-line of high quality digital products with even better resolution and image sensors and in a variety of shapes (monoculars and binoculars) with never-before utilized features and options” sometime in the near future.
With new video from Charles Lamoureux already sparking the imaginations of UFO videographers on YouTube, the future for affordable do-it-yourself skywatching appears to be a very bright and promising one indeed.
On the night of February 25, 1942 an incident occurred over the city limits of Los Angeles, California. Some say that there were visiting spacecraft from another world, or dimension, that hovered over a panicked and blacked-out LA in the middle of the night just weeks after the Pearl Harbor attack. Others were convinced that this huge ship was some unknown Japanese aircraft. It was attacked as it hung, nearly stationary, over Culver City and Santa Monica by dozens of Army anti-aircraft batteries in full view of hundreds of thousands of residents. This was the Battle of Los Angeles.
The sudden appearance of the enormous round object triggered all of LA and most of Southern California into an immediate wartime blackout with thousands of Air Raid Wardens scurrying all over the darkened city while the drama unfolded in the skies above…a drama which would result in the deaths of six people and the raining of shell fragments on homes, streets, and buildings for miles around.
Dozens of gun crews and searchlights of the Army’s 37th Coast Artillery Brigade easily targeted the huge ship which hung like a surreal magic lantern in the clear, dark winter sky over the City of the Angels. Few in the city were left asleep after the Coastal Defense gunners commenced firing hundreds and hundreds of rounds up toward the glowing ship which was apparently first sighted as it hovered above such west side landmarks as the MGM studios in Culver City. The thump of the batteries and the ignition of the aerial shells reverberated from one end of LA to the other as the gun crews easily landed scores of what many termed “direct hits”….all to no avail. Here now, is what the night skies of LA looked like at the height of the firing.
Pay close attention to the convergence of the searchlights and you will clearly see the shape of the visitor within the illuminated target area. It’s a BIG item and seemed completely oblivious to the hundreds of AA shells bursting on and adjacent to it which caused it no evident dismay. There were casualties, however…on the ground. At least 6 people died as a direct result of the Army’s attack on the UFO which slowly and leisurely made its way down to and then over Long Beach before finally moving off and disappearing.
WITNESS ACCOUNT:In February, 1942, Katie was a young, beautiful, and highly-successful interior decorator and artist who worked with many of Hollywood’s most glamorous celebrities and film industry luminaries. She lived on the west side of Los Angeles, not far from Santa Monica. With the outbreak of the war with Japan and the rising fear of a Japanese air attack, or even invasion of the West Coast, thousands of residents volunteered for wartime duties on the home front. Katie volunteered to become an Air Raid Warden as did 12,000 other residents in the sprawling city of Los Angeles and surrounding communities.
In the early morning hours of February 25th, Katie’s phone rang. It was the Air Raid supervisor in her district notifying her of an alert and asking if she had seen the object in the sky very close to her home. She immediately walked to a window and looked up. “It was huge! It was just enormous! And it was practically right over my house. I had never seen anything like it in my life!” she said. “It was just hovering there in the sky and hardly moving at all.” With the city blacked out, Katie, and hundreds of thousands of others, were able to see the eerie visitor with spectacular clarity. “It was a lovely pale orange and about the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen. I could see it perfectly because it was very close. It was big!”
The U.S. Army anti-aircraft searchlights by this time had the object completely covered. “They sent fighter planes up (the Army denied any of its fighters were in action) and I watched them in groups approach it and then turn away. There were shooting at it but it didn’t seem to matter.” Katie is insistent about the use of planes in the attack on the object. The planes were apparently called off after several minutes and then the ground cannon opened up. “It was like the Fourth of July but much louder. They were firing like crazy but they couldn’t touch it.” The attack on the object lasted over half an hour before the visitor eventually disappeared from sight. Many eyewitnesses talked of numerous “direct hits” on the big craft but no damage was seen done to it. “I’ll never forget what a magnificent sight it was. Just marvelous. And what a gorgeous color!”, said Katie.
Explosions stabbing the darkness like tiny bursting stars… Searchlight beams poking long crisscross fingers across the night sky…Yells of wardens and the whistles of police and deputy sheriffs…The brief on-and-off flick of lights, telephone calls, snatches of conversation: ‘Get the dirty…’ That was Los Angeles under the rumble of gunfire yesterday.
RESIDENTS AWAKENED
Sleepy householders awoke to the dull thud of explosions… “Thunder? Can’t be!” Then: “Air Raid! Come here quick! Look over there…those searchlights. They’ve got something…they are blasting in with anti-aircraft!” Father, mother, children all gathered on the front porch, congregated in small clusters in the blacked out streets — against orders. Babies cried, dogs barked, doors slammed. But the object in the sky slowly moved on, caught in the center of the lights like the hub of a bicycle wheel surrounded by gleaming spokes.
SPECULATION RIFE
Speculation fell like rain. “It’s a whole squadron.” “No, it’s a blimp. It must be because it’s moving so slowly.” “I hear planes.” “No you don’t. That’s a truck up the street.” “Where are the planes then?” “Dunno. They must be up there though.” “Wonder why they picked such a clear night for a raid?” “They’re probably from a carrier.” “Naw, I’ll bet they are from a secret air base down south somewhere.” Still the firing continued. Like lethal firecrackers, the anti-aircraft rounds blasted above, below, seemingly right on the target fixed in the tenacious beams. Other shots fell short, exploding halfway up the long climb. Tracers sparked upward like roman candles. Metal fell. It fell in chunks, large and small; not enemy metal, but the whistling fragments of bursting ack-ack shells. The menacing thud and clank on streets and roof tops drove many spectators to shelter.
WARDENS DO GOOD JOB
Wardens were on the job, doing a good job of it. “Turn off your lights, please. Pull over to the curb and stop. Don’t use your telephone. Take shelter. Take shelter.” On every street brief glares of hooded flashlights cut the darkness, warning creeping drivers to stop. Police watched at main intersections. Sirens wailed enroute to and from blackout accidents. There came lulls in the firing. The search lights went out. (To allow the fighter planes to attack?). Angelinos breathed deeply and said, “I guess it’s all over.” But before they could tell their neighbors good night, the guns were blasting again, sighting up the long blue beams of the lights.
WATCHERS SHIVER
The fire seemed to burst in rings all around the target. But the eager watchers, shivering in the early morning cold, weren’t rewarded by the sight of a falling plane. Nor were there any bombs dropped. “Maybe it’s just a test,” someone remarked. “Test, hell!” was the answer. “You don’t throw that much metal in the air unless you’re fixing on knocking something down.” Still the firing continued, muttering angrily off toward the west like a distant thunderstorm. The targeted object inched along high, flanked by the cherry red explosions. Army Says Alarm Real Roaring Guns Mark Blackout
Identity of Aircraft Veiled in Mystery; No Bombs Dropped and No Enemy Craft Hit; Civilians Reports Seeing Planes and Balloon
Overshadowing a nation-wide maelstrom of rumors and conflicting reports, the Army’s Western Defense Command insisted that Los Angeles’ early morning blackout and anti-aircraft action were the result of unidentified aircraft sighted over the beach area. In two official statements, issued while Secretary of the Navy Knox in Washington was attributing the activity to a false alarm and “jittery nerves,” the command in San Francisco confirmed and reconfirmed the presence over the Southland of unidentified planes. Relayed by the Southern California sector office in Pasadena, the second statement read: “The aircraft which caused the blackout in the Los Angeles area for several hours this a.m. have not been identified.” Insistence from official quarters that the alarm was real came as hundreds of thousands of citizens who heard and saw the activity spread countless varying stories of the episode. The spectacular anti-aircraft barrage came after the 14th Interceptor Command ordered the blackout when strange craft were reported over the coastline. Powerful searchlights from countless stations stabbed the sky with brilliant probing fingers while anti-aircraft batteries dotted the heavens with beautiful, if sinister, orange bursts of shrapnel.
City Blacked Out For Hours
The city was blacked out from 2:25 to 7:21 am after an earlier yellow alert at 7:18 pm was called off at 10:23 pm. The blackout was in effect from here to the Mexican border and inland to the San Joaquin Valley. No bombs were dropped and no airplanes shot down and, miraculously in terms of the tons of missiles hurled aloft, only two persons were reported wounded by falling shell fragments. Countless thousands of Southland residents, many of whom were late to work because of the traffic tie-up during the blackout, rubbed their eyes sleepily yesterday and agreed that regardless of the question of how “real” the air raid alarm may have been, it was “a great show” and “well worth losing a few hours’ sleep.” The blackout was not without its casualties, however. A State Guardsman died of a heart attack while driving an ammunition truck, heart failure also accounted for the death of an air raid warden on duty, a woman was killed in a car-truck collision in Arcadia, and a Long Beach policeman was killed in a traffic crash enroute to duty. Much of the firing appeared to come from the vicinity of aircraft plants along the coastal area of Santa Monica, Inglewood, Southwest Los Angeles, and Long Beach. – Los Angeles Times
On Wednesday, February 25, 1942, as war raged in Europe and Asia, at least a million Southern Californians awoke to the scream of air-raid sirens as Los Angeles County cities blacked out at 2:25 AM. Many dozed off again while 12,000 air raid wardens reported faithfully to their posts, most of them expecting nothing more than a dress rehearsal for a possible future event – an invasion of the United States by Japan. At 3:36, however, they were shocked and their slumbering families rudely roused again, this time by sounds unfamiliar to most Americans outside the military services.
The roar of the 37th Coast Artillery Brigade’s antiaircraft batteries jolted them out of bed and before they could get to the windows the flashing 12.8 pound shells were detonating with a heavy, ominous boomp – boomp – boomp and the steel was already raining down. All radio stations had been ordered off the air at 3:08. But the news was being written with fingers of light three miles high on a clear star-studded blackboard 30 miles long.
The firing continued intermittently until 4:14. Unexploded shells destroyed pavement, homes and public buildings, three persons were killed and three died of heart attacks directly attributable to the one hour barrage. Several persons were injured by shrapnel. A dairy herd was hit but only a few cows were casualties.
The blackout was lifted and sirens screamed all clear at 7:21. The shooting stopped but the shouting had hardly begun. Military men who never flinched at the roar of rifles now shook at the prospect of facing the press. While they probably could not be blamed for what had happened, they did have some reason for distress. The thing they had been shooting at could not be identified.
Caught by the searchlights and captured in photographs, was an object big enough to dwarf an apartment house. Experienced lighter-than-air (dirigible) specialists doubted it could be a Japanese blimp because the Japanese had no known source of helium, and hydrogen was much too dangerous to use under combat conditions.
Whatever it was, it was a sitting duck for the guns of the 37th. Photographs showed shells bursting all around it. A Los Angeles Herald Express staffer said he was sure many shells hit it directly. He was amazed it had not been shot down.
The object that triggered the air raid alarm had drawn 1430 rounds of ammunition from the coast artillery, to no effect. When it moved at all, the object had proceeded at a leisurely pace over the coastal cities between Santa Monica and Long Beach, taking about 30 minutes of actual flight time to move 20 miles; then it disappeared from view.
You can well imagine with what chagrin public information officers answered press queries. The Pasadena Office of the Southern California Sector of the Army Western Defense Command simply announced that no enemy aircraft had been identified; no craft was shot down; no bombs were dropped; none of our interceptors left the ground to pursue the intruder.
Soon thereafter US Navy Secretary Frank Knox announced that no planes had been sighted. The coastal firing had been triggered, he said, by a false alarm and jittery nerves. He also suggested that some war industries along the coast might have to be moved inland to points invulnerable to attacks from enemy submarines and carrier-based planes.
The press responded with scathing editorials, many on page one, calling attention to the loss of life and denouncing the use of the coast artillery to fire at phantoms. The Los Angeles Times demanded a full explanation from Washington. The Long Beach Telegram complained that government officials who all along had wanted to move the industries were manipulating the affair for propaganda purposes. And the Long Beach Independent charged: “There is a mysterious reticence about the whole affair and it appears some form of censorship is trying to halt discussion of the matter. Although it was red-hot news not one national radio commentator gave it more than passing mention. This is the kind of reticence that is making the American people gravely suspect the motives and the competence of those whom they have charged with the conduct of the war.”
The Independent had good reason to question the competence of some of the personnel responsible for our coastal defense operations as well as the integrity and motives of our highest government officials. Only 36 hours before the Long Beach air raid, a gigantic Japanese submarine had surfaced close to shore 12 miles north of Santa Barbara and in 25 minutes of unchallenged firing lobbed 25 five-inch shells at the petroleum refinery in the Ellwood oil field. The Fourth Interceptor Command, although aware of the sub’s attack, ordered a blackout from Ventura to Goleta but sent no planes out to sink it. Not one shot was fired at the sub.
After the Ellwood incident had alerted all the West Coast defense posts to possible repeat attacks, these units were sensitive to anticipated invasion attempts. By Wednesday morning in the Los Angeles area they were ready to open fire on a boy’s kite if it in any way resembled a plane or a balloon. Secretary of War Henry Stimson praised the 37th Cost Artillery for this attitude. It is better to be a little too alert than not alert enough, he said. At the same time he delicately suggested that it might have been a good idea to send some of our planes up to identify the invading aircraft before shooting at them.
Planes of the Fourth Interceptor Command were, in fact, warming up on the runways waiting for orders to go up and interview the unknown intruders. Why, everybody was asking, were they not ordered to go into action during the 51-minute period between the first air-raid alert at 2:25 AM and the first artillery firing at 3:16?
Against this background of embarrassing indecision and confusion, Army Western Defense Command obviously had to say something fast. Spokesmen told reporters that from one to 50 planes had been sighted, thus giving themselves ample latitude in which to adjust future stories to fit whatever propaganda requirements might arise in the next few days.
When eyewitness reports from thousands searching the skies with binoculars under the bright lights of the coast artillery verified the presence of one enormous, unidentifiable, indestructible object – but not the presence of large numbers of planes – the press releases were gradually scaled downward. A week later Gen. Mark Clark acknowledged that army listening posts had detected what they thought were five light planes approaching the coast on the night of the air raid. No interceptors, he said, had been sent out to engage them because there had been no mass attack.
Believing an aerial bombardment was in progress, some people thought they saw formations of warplanes, dogfights between enemy craft and our fighter planes and other things that they assumed were evidence of such an attack. Obviously there were no dogfights because none of our interceptors were in the air. Tracer bullets were fired from military ground stations and some people mistook the fire pattern made by these projectiles for aerial combat. Other observers reported lighted objects which were variously described as red-and-white flares in groups of three red and three white, fired alternately, or chainlike strings of red lights looking something like an illuminated kite.
People suggested that some of these lights were caused by Japanese-Americans signaling approaching Japanese aircraft with flares to guide them to selected targets, but because no bombs were dropped, the theory was quickly abandoned. In any case, such charges fitted in perfectly with a hysterical press campaign to round up all citizens of Japanese descent and put them in concentration camps.
During the week of the Japanese submarine attack on the Ellwood oil field and the air raid on Los Angeles County, the press took full advantage of the made-to-order situation. Arrests of suspects were quickly made and the FBI was called in, but the Long Beach Press Telegram stated all investigations indicated nobody was signaling the enemy from the ground.

The LA Times: “From Santa Barbara, area of the submarine attack Monday night, District Attorney Percy Heckendorf said he would appeal to Lt. Gen. John L. DeWitt, commanding officer of the Western Defense Command, to make Santa Barbara County a restricted area for enemy nationals and American-born Japanese as well. “There is convincing proof,” Heckendorf asserted, “that there were shore signals flashed to the enemy.” Heckendorf said the people will hold Gen. DeWitt responsible if he failed to act. Army ordinance officers, meanwhile, were studying more than 200 pounds of shell fragments from missiles fired by the submarine, which caused only $500 damage in the Ellwood oil field near Santa Barbara.”
