Atlantis Revealed: Plato's Cautionary Tale Was Based On A Real Setting

The time is 360 BC, the dawn of Western civilization. Athens, the cradle of democracy, is the epicenter of the ancient world. In his dialogues of Timaeus and Critias, Plato introduces a tale of an advanced prehistoric civilization, which since has captivated the imagination of every generation that followed. This was the story of Atlantis, an idyllic island paradise of skillful navigators who often crossed the Atlantic to explore. Atlantis, according to Plato, was ultimately lost to the sea. Its memory, though, was not soon forgotten.

For two millennia, people unsuccessfully kept on searching for the legendary island, making Atlantis one of the most lasting and fascinating stories of all time! What about those, however, who over time claim to have found the lost island? The truth is, no one until now was able to introduce a site that perfectly matched Plato's description. Instead, we have theories upon theories on the whereabouts of Atlantis. Why though? If everyone utilizes the same textbook, why the apparent confusion? Can this be a case of gross misinterpretation among researchers, or did early translators fail to properly capture and relay Plato's account? And, what about the chronological conflict that exists in Plato's account?

Let's take the original Santorini hypothesis, for example. Unquestionably, the island of Santorini, its volcanic eruption and the advanced Minoan civilization, was the best we had on Atlantis until recently. This was never a flawless hypothesis, though. Always a big problem with that theory was the fact that Plato's given chronology of 9600 BC had to be discarded (as Athens and most story details did not belong in that period). There is another bigger problem with that theory, though. While Santorini itself undeniably matches the site where the crown city of Atlantis once stood (talking about the concentric rings of earth and water) the problem is, Santorini alone never matched Plato's entire description. The primary island of Atlantis, one Plato said was to be 9 kilometers away, is missing from the particular setting of 1600 BC. These major flaws allowed for critics to raise doubts on that hypothesis, and to continue to question the validity of Plato's story.

Of course, serious research on Atlantis was never simple. Science fiction authors, movies and other creative works of popular culture, eventually capitalized on the story's popularity, and contrary to Plato's account, over time they turned Atlantis into an ultra-modern society with flying machines and technology far beyond our own.

Nonetheless, eventually every search comes to an end. Recently, a four year study that included a thorough analysis of Plato's work established that serious errors by early translators allowed for the mixed messages in the translated document.

The recent study not only decisively placed Atlantis in the Mediterranean Sea, but, it concluded with the discovery and identification of a submerged prehistoric island that in every way matches Plato's Atlantis. While in the past finding Atlantis was thought to be more difficult than winning the lottery, now there is a tangible site where all the physical characteristics of the given description match. The topography, the given chronology, the volcanic geology, the flora and fauna in that period, the island's destruction by a great flood, the presence of an unknown prehistoric civilization in the area, and DNA evidence all point to a genuine discovery.

More specifically, the study shows that around 9600 BC, when according to Plato Atlantis was above water, the modern Cyclades Islands were connected by the Cyclades Plateau, a flat terrain (now 400 feet below sea level,) that formed the body of a huge island. When this prehistoric island is compared to Plato's Atlantis, it immediately becomes evident that this must have been the land Plato was talking about. Its northern region was comprised of mountains that reached the shores. Below the mountainous region there was an oblong valley measuring 555 Km ². Below the oblong valley there was a smaller valley, 2/3 the size of the oblong valley that measured 370 Km ². This was the primary island. Nine kilometers away from the primary island, and precisely as Plato depicted, lies the island of Santorini, a circular island with a flooded core and a small island in its center (Santorini, an island within an island setting, a sea volcano with a collapsed center, prior to the volcanic eruption of 1600 BC had a single opening on its outer ring that allowed ships to enter its watery caldera).

The consequence in finding Atlantis at around 9600 BC leaves no doubt that Plato based his story on a real setting and a prehistoric civilization known to ancient Greeks, which in order to successfully communicate some of his philosophical ideas (divine vs. human, ideal societies vs. corrupt,) he filled with familiar matter from later times, including details from the Minoan era of which he was more familiar with. The existence of a matching site at around 9600 BC, in essence, proves that Plato did exactly what Homer did with Troy 400 years before him. (Homer's Iliad was an entirely fictional story that revolved around a real setting and a historical incident that took place 600 years before Homer himself.)

The super-island of the Cyclades Plateau (Plato's Atlantis) was drowned by the sea at around 8000 BC, during the rapid rise of the Mediterranean and just prior to the flooding of the Black Sea (see UNESCO study, 2009.) Incidentally, around this time, Lake Agassiz, a gigantic glacial lake in North America, also burst open and began to drain into the Atlantic. It is worth noting that Lake Agassiz covered an area larger than all the Great Lakes combined (440,000 Km ²) and at times, it contained more fresh water than all the lakes in the world today. The total fresh water outflow from this lake alone was so immense, scientists believe it raised the oceans worldwide by as much as nine feet and further produced the 8.2 kilo-year event that followed, a mini ice age that lasted 400 years! This global cataclysm at the end of the last Ice Age, which ultimately raised sea levels by 400 feet, not only erased our early history, but this could also be the event we all inadvertently refer to as the "Great Flood."

As for the island/continent across from the Pillars of Hercules, one larger than Libya and Asia combined, the latest study demonstrates how Plato's reference of the American continent got misconstrued into that of Atlantis. The mention of the continent across the Atlantic, "one that encompassed that veritable ocean," was Plato's poetic attempt to demonstrate Atlantis's incredible naval capability and its capacity to cross the ocean via island hopping (through Scotland, Orkney Islands, Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland.) Several clues and archeological evidence actually confirm that the ancient Greeks were aware of the American continent in order for Plato to include it in his story.

The implications of locating Atlantis in the Mediterranean go beyond the discovery itself. This find not only substantiates Plato's claim of prehistoric transatlantic crossings, but may finally help explain how the Mediterranean haplogroup X got to North America 10,000 to 12,000 years ago.

While most geneticists today maintain that haplogroup X walked to America via the Bering Strait, genetic maps show that the furthest region east of the Mediterranean with small traces of haplogroup X, is the Altai Republic in Southern Russia. No traces of haplogroup X exist between Altai Republic and the greater region of the Great Lakes. If haplogroup X infiltrated North America via the Bering Strait, why then does the greatest concentration of haplogroup X (away from the Mediterranean) exist around the Great Lakes and not in Alaska or alongside the west coast? Most importantly, how do we otherwise explain that heavy traces of haplogroup X incidentally also exist in Scotland, Orkney Islands, Faroe islands and Iceland, essentially all the island stops to North America from Europe.

Finally, a 10,000 year old Mediterranean civilization, may help explain more archaeological oddities in this region. Recent erosion and seismic tests at the Giza Plateau, indicated that the Great Sphinx may be much older structure than previously thought, and along with the site of Gobekli Tepe in Turkey, both seem to coincide with Plato's story of Atlantis. Is it possible that Gobekli Tepe and the monument of The Great Sphinx could be remnants of the same advanced civilization Plato referenced in his story, one that was aggressively advancing against its neighbors in Africa and the Middle East, or do those belong to another culture? And what about the advanced proto-Euphratean people who descended upon the Mesopotamia around 7000 BC, from a region "unknown." Could these enigmatic people be the refugees of the same culture who fled the Mediterranean basin and moved eastwards to escape the inundation? Undoubtedly, they could have brought with them the story of the great flood as well as the skills and technology to incite yet another great civilization, like that of ancient Sumer (just as the survivors around the Cyclades and neighboring islands may have ultimately contributed to the rise of the Minoans).

As they indicate in their paper, the targets of their study were all nearby core-collapse supernovae (SNe) that Hubble imaged at high spatial resolutions. The images were part of the Hubble Snapshot program, created by the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) to provide a large sample of images for various targets. Every target is observed in a single orbit of Hubble around the Earth between other observation programs, allowing a degree of flexibility that is not possible with other observatories.

For their study, Van Dyk and his colleagues examined images of six extragalactic supernovae before and after they exploded – designated SN 2012A, SN 2013ej, SN 2016gkg, SN 2017eaw, SN 2018zd, and SN 2018aoq. With extragalactic targets, astronomers have difficulty knowing if the stars they identified were progenitors to the supernova, given the distance involved. As Van Dyk to Universe Today via email, the only way to be sure is to wait for the supernova to dim, then confirm that the progenitor star has disappeared:

“Since the supernova explosion is so luminous, we have to wait a number of years until it has faded enough that it is less luminous than was the progenitor. In a few of the cases we show in our paper, there is little question that the star that was there pre-explosion is now gone. In the other cases, we’re reasonably sure, but the supernova is still detectable and is just faint enough for us to infer that the progenitor has vanished. “

In a previous study, Van Dyk and several colleagues who were co-authors of this study investigated another supernova (iPTF13bvn) whose progenitor star disappeared. In this case, the research team relied on data obtained by Hubble of the SN site – as part of the Ultraviolet Ultra Deep Field (UVUDF) campaign – roughly 740 days after the star exploded. In 2013, Van Dyk led a study that used images from an earlier Snapshot program to confirm that the progenitor of SN 2011dh in the Whirlpool Galaxy (Messier 51) had disappeared.

These and other papers over the years have shown that progenitor candidates can be directly identified from pre-explosion images. In this most recent study, Van Dyk and his colleagues observed supernovae in the later stages of their evolution to learn what mechanisms are powering them. In many cases, the mechanism is the decay of radioactive nuclei (in particular, radioactive nickel, cobalt, and iron) that were synthesized by the enormous energy of the explosion. But as he explained, they suspected that other mechanisms might be involved:

“However, we have indications that some supernovae inevitably have additional power sources — one possibility is that the light of the supernova has been scattered by interstellar dust immediate to the explosion, in the form of a ‘light echo’; another more likely possibility is that the shockwave associated with the explosion is interacting with gas that was deposited around the progenitor star by the star itself during the course of the star’s life, in the form of wind or outburst, that is, circumstellar matter. The ejecta from the explosion moving through and interacting with this circumstellar matter can result in luminous energy that can persist for years, even for decades.”

In short, the team was trying to estimate how many of the supernovae they observed evolved through radioactive decay versus more exotic powering mechanisms. Their results showed that SN 2012A, SN 2018zd, and SN 2018aoq had faded to the point where they were no longer detectable in the Hubble Snapshot images, whereas SN 2013ej, SN 2016gkg, and SN 2017eaw had faded just enough. Therefore, they could infer in all six cases that the progenitors had disappeared. However, not all were the result of a single massive star undergoing core collapse.

In the case of SN 2016gkg, the images acquired by Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) were of much higher spatial resolution and sensitivity than the images of the host galaxy, previously taken by the now-retired WFC2. This allowed them to theorize that SN 2016gkg was not the result of a single core-collapse supernova but a progenitor star interacting with a neighboring star. Said Van Dyk:

“So, in the old image, the progenitor looked like one “star,” whereas in the new images, we could see that the progenitor had to have been spatially distinct from the neighboring star. Therefore, we were able to obtain a better estimate of the progenitor’s luminosity and color, now uncontaminated by the neighbor, and from that, we were able to make some new inferences about the overall properties of the progenitor, or, in this case, progenitor system, since we characterized the new results using existing models of binary star systems.”

Specifically, they determined that the progenitor belonged to the class of “stripped-envelope” supernovae (SESNe), in which the outer hydrogen H-rich envelope of the progenitor star has been significantly or entirely removed. They further estimated that the progenitor was the primary and its companion was likely a main sequence star. They even placed constraints on their respective masses before the explosion (4.6 and 17–20.5 solar masses, respectively).

After consulting images taken around the same time by another Snapshot program, they also noticed something interesting about SN 2017eaw. These images indicated that this supernova was especially luminous in the UV band (an “ultraviolet excess”). By combining these images with their data, Va Dyk and his team speculated that SN 2017eaw had an excess of light in the UV at the time it was observed, which was likely caused by interaction between the supernova shock and the circumstellar medium around that progenitor.

The team also noted that the dust created by a supernova explosion is a complicating factor due to how it cools as it expands outward. This dust, said Van Dyk, can obscure light from distant sources and lead to complications with the observations:

“The caveat here, then, is that the star that we saw pre-explosion might not be the progenitor at all, for instance and — again, because of the distances to the host galaxies — that star is within fractions of a pixel of the actual progenitor (physically, in the immediate neighborhood of the progenitor), such that, if the supernova has made dust, that dust is effectively blanketing both the supernova and that neighboring star. This is possible, but not inordinately likely. And it becomes a harder argument to make in those few cases where nothing is seen at the supernova position years later — as we point out in the paper, that would require enormous amounts of dust, which is likely physically not possible.”

Tracing the origins of supernovae is one of the many ways astronomers can learn more about the life cycle of stars. With improved instruments, data collection, and flexibility, they are able to reveal more about how our Universe evolved and will continue to change over time.

Could Alien life be hiding underwater? Bob McGwier worked clandestine intelligence collection for years. In the video below he relays two stories of USOs, or unidentified submerged objects, while working classified ops.

One encounter took place in the 90s when the submarine USS Hampton was passed by a USO which travelled under water faster than the speed of sound 

Not only the US Navy encountered USOs, the Russian Navy too. Vladimir Azhazha, former navy officer and a famous Russian UFO researcher, says fifty percent of UFO encounters are connected with oceans. Fifteen more – with lakes. So UFOs tend to stick to the water. 

On one occasion a nuclear submarine, which was on a combat mission in the Pacific Ocean, detected six unknown objects. After the crew failed to leave behind their pursuers by maneuvering, the captain ordered to surface. The objects followed suit, took to the air, and flew away. 

“On several occasions the instruments gave reading of material objects moving at incredible speed. Calculations showed speeds of about 230 knots, of 400 kph. Speeding so fast is a challenge even on the surface. But water resistance is much higher. It was like the objects defied the laws of physics. There’s only one explanation: the creatures who built them far surpass us in development.” 

Navy intelligence veteran, Captain 1st rank Igor Barklay comments: “Ocean UFOs often show up wherever our or NATO’s fleets concentrate. Near Bahamas, Bermudas, Puerto Rico. They are most often seen in the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean, in the southern part of the Bermuda Triangle, and also in the Caribbean Sea. 

Another place where people often report UFO encounters is Russia’s Lake Baikal, the deepest fresh water body in the world. Fishermen tell of powerful lights coming from the deep and objects flying up from the water. 

In one case in 1982 a group of military divers training at Baikal spotted a group of humanoid creatures dressed in silvery suits. The encounter happened at a depth of 50 meters, and the divers tried to catch the strangers. Three of the seven men died, while four others were severely injured. 

Wistleblower Edward Snowden revealed that deep-sea sonar signals are kept as official state secrets and the public are banned from accessing data about reported sightings of USO’s. 

Could this be proof of a government cover-up surrounding extraterrestrial underwater activity?

Ross Coulthart: “I’m being told this [the UFO phenomenon] is future humans.”

Ross Coulthart is an investigative journalist who has written about various subjects such as Irish rebels and big pharmaceutical companies. He has received numerous awards, including the Golden Walkley, for his work. In his latest book In Plain Sight: An investigation into UFOs and impossible science (Amazon link here), he talks about an unidentified aerial phenomenon.

In his book, In Plain Sight, Ross Coulthart provides a comprehensive analysis of the evidence supporting UAP. He also talks about the nature of state deception and the technological implications of this phenomenon. He claims that some ancient ruins on Earth are not related to humans. Ross Coulthart was given “wacky” information that some ancient ruins belong to previous Earth civilizations not related to us.

Pentagon’s UFO task force briefed Canadian military officials this year!

In February, members of the Pentagon’s UFO Task Force briefed Canada’s military officials about the latest sightings of unidentified flying objects. The briefing, which was led by an intelligence officer from the US Air Force, was conducted as part of a larger investigation into the growing number of reported sightings of UFOs.

A document released by the Pentagon on November 14 states that the briefing was delivered by members of the UAP Task Force, and it was attended by a group of 10 Canadian defense officials. These include personnel from Canada’s Royal Canadian Air Force and the country’s intelligence agency.

The document provided few details about the nature of the briefing. Susan Gough, a spokesperson for the US Department of Defense, said that the officials briefed the Canadian officials about the latest sightings of unidentified flying objects. The meeting was part of the US’ ongoing partnership with Canada on airspace security.

The Canadian Department of National Defense was unable to provide any comment on the meeting. James Bezan, a member of the opposition Conservative party, said that it was clear that the UAP Task Force wanted to work with the government of Canada. He noted that any attempt to downplay the data or the reports would be unacceptable.

As a member of Parliament for Manitoba’s Selkirk-Interlake-Eastman region, Bezan noted that Canada should follow the US’ lead and investigate the UAP phenomenon. He said that the government should create a scientific plan to identify the nature and origins of the objects.

The Conservative party also noted that the government should establish a comprehensive process to collect reports related to the UAP phenomenon. This should be done through a single, centralized approach that would involve all of the government’s departments and contractors.

In response to a question from Larry Maguire, a member of Parliament from the Conservative party, the Department of National Defense stated that the country’s military doesn’t typically investigate reports of unidentified flying objects outside of the scope of its regular operations. In 2016, at least four cases reportedly met this criterion. Details about the briefing about the latest sightings of UFOs were revealed in a November 14 response to a question from the member of Parliament.

In response to a question from Larry Maguire, a member of Parliament from the Conservative party, the Department of National Defense stated that the country’s military doesn’t typically investigate reports of unidentified flying objects outside of the scope of its regular operations. However, it did acknowledge a briefing that was held in February. The briefing was part of the US’ ongoing partnership with Canada on airspace security.

In response to a question from Larry Maguire, a member of Parliament from the Conservative party, the Department of National Defense stated that the country’s military doesn’t typically investigate reports of unidentified flying objects outside of the scope of its regular operations. The response was signed by Anita Anand, the parliamentary secretary for the defense minister.

Since becoming an MP in 2013, Larry Maguire has been a vocal proponent of transparency regarding the UAP phenomenon on Parliament Hill. Through his committee work, he has been able to gather information from former US officials. On Tuesday, he noted that the government has a good idea of how it should start investigating the matter.

In response to a question from Larry Maguire, a member of Parliament from the Conservative party, the Department of National Defense stated that the country’s military doesn’t typically investigate reports of unidentified flying objects outside of the scope of its regular operations. On Tuesday, he noted that he has asked the chief science advisor of Canada to launch a study regarding the UAP phenomenon. In an October 21 letter, Dr. Mona Nemer stated that her team has been informed about the various initiatives being conducted in the US related to the phenomenon.

The briefing, which was held in February 2022, was led by Daniel Simpson, the National Intelligence Manager of the US for Aviation. He has a mandate to lead the Intelligence Community’s efforts to identify and analyze threats and vulnerabilities within the air domain.

Daniel Simpson’s office collaborated with the UAP Task Force and other agencies in June 2021 to produce a report that provided a comprehensive analysis of the various incidents involving the UAP phenomenon. The report, which was publicly available, showed that the US military received 143 reports of unidentified flying objects from 2004 to 2021. Many of these incidents involved objects that appeared to move rapidly or abruptly.

The UAP Task Force was established in 2020 by the Department of Defense to study the nature and origins of the objects. It has since been reformed and is now known as the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office. Although officials have found no evidence suggesting that the objects are extraterrestrial, they are still trying to find out why people have reported seeing them.

During a hearing held in May 2022 on the UAP phenomenon, Ronald Moultrie, the UAP office’s head, said that the military service members have reported seeing the objects. He noted that the office is open to any possible conclusions that it can come up with. NASA also announced that it is planning on launching a study regarding the matter.

For over 70 years, members of Canada’s military have been filing reports about sightings of the flying objects. According to a report by Canada’s CTV News, former Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan was briefed about the UAP phenomenon in May 2021. Then, in May 2022, Transport Minister Omar Alghabra was briefed about the phenomenon.

Over the years, various organizations, such as Air Canada, WestJet, Porter Airlines, and Delta Air Lines, have also reported experiencing similar sightings. Unfortunately, most of these incidents don’t lead to follow-up investigations. The information collected by Transport Canada, which operates an online database that allows aviation officials to monitor incidents, contains only preliminary data.

NASA’s Artemis I Mission Return Trip Lunar Flyby

On Dec. 5, NASA will air the lunar flyby of the Orion spacecraft on its return trek toward Earth. Orion completed a burn Dec. 1 to exit a lunar orbit thousands of miles beyond the Moon, where engineers have been testing systems to improve understanding of the spacecraft before future missions with astronauts. The return powered flyby burn, in which the spacecraft will harness the Moon’s gravity and accelerate back toward Earth, is expected at 11:43 a.m. (1643 UTC) The spacecraft is expected to fly about 79 miles above the lunar surface at 11:42 a.m. (16:42 UTC) just before the burn.

Orion launched aboard the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket at 1:47 am EST (0647 UTC) on Nov. 16 from historic Launch Complex 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. Orion entered a distant retrograde orbit on at 4:52 p.m. EST (2152 UTC) on Nov. 25, where the spacecraft has been testing systems in a deep space environment.

Alien Figure Hidden In NASA Photo Of Eagle Nebula, UFO Sighting News

I finally got around to making that video of this nebula. At the NASA site, they have a close up photo of part of the Eagle Nebula. Its an area that they thought looked like a fairy, so they named it The Fairy of Eagle Nebula. Yeah, you heard me right, I found that this part of the nebula is a figure. The photo has to be cut in half from top to bottom then flipped and added to itself...making one whole figure. This gives us the full figure of the alien it was made after. Yes, I believe we are looking at the likeness of the alien species that created this nebula. They created it with a puzzle of sorts hidden within it. Perhaps to demonstrate their higher intelligence than other species that cannot see the hidden figure. You know...like Leonardo Da Vinci hiding secret symbols and messages within his paintings. Its alien art, its meant to be viewed using a higher IQ than humans are suppose to have...humanity is not suppose to be able to see these or understand them. Its wearing a samurai type of armor. Humans made Mount Rushmore made from a entire mountain of stone...so you see, everyone likes to leave their mark for future generations, its just these aliens did it on a whole new level. Do you remember I was talking about different civilization levels last week? Humanity still has not reached a type 1 civilization level yet, but what we are looking at is an alien figure in a nebula made by a type 5 civilization...which can manipulate space and time, basically, godly in every way.

A huge UFO flew over Spain last week almost unnoticed as it few incredibly low and close to the ground. The one mile craft was cloaked so that its surface looked like it was made of cloud, when in reality, its just its technological ability to cloak. An alien craft this big could easily carry thousands of aliens onboard. 

 

Why do aliens hide the craft this way? Because they don't want to be responsible for causing a panic, and yet they want to get humans use to large objects of unusual shape in the sky...desensitizing the public so that on the day they see a UFO clearly, they wont panic. 

 

This is how aliens do things. I'm just in awe that a one mile spacecraft that travels the universe could so easily changes its surface appearance into clouds and everyone still thinks its a cloud.

80 years ago: The Royal Air Force was UFOs in the sky above Europe

Although they may not have been called “Foo Fighters,” the members of the Royal Air Force spotted and reported strange objects flying over Europe for about two years before the American pilots who made the phenomenon famous named them.

One of the first reported sightings happened on November 28, 1942, during a raid on a Turin engine works. A Lancaster bomber from RAF Syerston was flying over northern Italy when it spotted a massive torpedo-shaped object. According to the report submitted by the crew, the object was about 200-300 feet long.

The objects, which were flying at speeds of around 500 mph, were equipped with four red lights that were spaced along their body. They didn’t appear like exhaust flames.

The report stated that the massive object was spotted twice, the first time around 11,000 feet and the second time around five minutes later as it flew along a valley in the Alps. The pilot who spotted it said that similar objects were flying north of Amsterdam around three months earlier. No.5 Group’s commander, Air Vice Marshal Alec Coryton, received the report and sent it to Bomber Command HQ for further analysis.

The report was sent by the crew of a Lancaster bomber. Despite the usual jokes about their experience, the members of the crew refused to be shaken by the incident.

The aircraft that was involved in the incident was an Avro Lancaster Mk.II bomber from No. 61 Squadron. It was flying over northern Italy on November 28, 1942.

The report was sent to No.5 Group’s HQ. It was from the commander of RAF Syerston. The strange object was spotted by the crew of the aircraft on November 28.

In December 1942, it is highly unlikely that the Germans built an airship that flew slowly and lumbered across the Italian Alps. In any case, the reported object’s speed was way over that of an operational machine at that time. Its size also exceeded that of any conventional aircraft that Germany had successfully tested by the end of that year.

The strange objects flying over northern Italy at that time remain unexplained. In February 1944, another group of bomber crews spotted two cigar-shaped objects near Koblenz and an over Aachen. These objects were referred to in reports submitted by Bomber Command.

UFO reports about cigar-shaped objects became a common feature during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. These types of objects could also be described in similar fashion to the Tic-Tacs of the modern era.

According to intelligence documents held in London’s National Archives, the objects were spotted by RAF bombers as early as August 1942. The objects were described as rocket-like and appeared to be flying toward the aircraft. Details about the incident were presented in an operational research report released by Bomber Command.

One of the objects was described as a bright white light that rose from the ground and flew at an altitude of 8,000 feet for around two minutes. Some of the crew members noted that it appeared to have a zig-zag pattern before it changed course.

The incident occurred around six months before Germany started testing its first surface-to-air missiles. This was well outside the testing facilities at Peenemnde, which were located on the Baltic coast.

In November 1944, American pilots began referring to the UFOs as “Foo Fighters.” By then, Bomber Command’s Operational Research Section had started to investigate what was happening in the skies over Europe.

The pilots believed that the objects were moving fast and that no aircraft was spotted. They also noted that the objects did not appear to have fire.

Although the incidents in August and November 1942 were the first reported sightings of UFOs in Europe, other strange sightings were also reported in the region. One of these was in March 1942, when a Polish pilot reported seeing an orange object flying toward his plane as it wasreturning from a raid on Essen.

After the war, Sobiski went to Canada. In the 1960s, he talked about the incident and revealed that he ordered his tail gunner to open fire on the UFO. However, he noted that the object was not able to withstand the machine-gun fire.

According to the pilot, the bullets in the object stayed put as they flew toward his plane for around two minutes. After that, the object changed its direction and flew toward the plane’s port side. It stayed there for about 200 yards.

The nose turret gunner of the plane, Krzysztof Grabowski, then started shooting at what he thought was a German fighter plane. Unfortunately, no damage was reported on the object. However, the object changed its direction and moved ahead of the plane. Grabowski continued firing at the UFO for a second time.

After a couple of minutes, the object disappeared as it flew over occupied Europe. It shot off at a 45 degree angle and disappeared.

Upon returning to base, Sobiski was informed that another plane had also spotted the UFO. However, no official report about the incident was made. The mission records of the squadron did not contain a record of the incident.

Further research has revealed that similar sightings were also reported by Allied planes as early as March 1940. These incidents occurred just months before thLuftwaffe, which was Germany’s air force, started operating its first night-fighting units. Reports about sightings of what were described as glowing objects flying in the sky continued to be made throughout 1942.

During the war, the RAF experimented with developing airborne searchlights. However, their operational deployment was unsuccessful and troublesome. Germany, on the other hand, did not try to develop a similar system. Instead, they relied on radar technology to develop their ground-based searchlight batteries and anti-aircraft guns.

It’s not clear what the objects were, or if they were lights that were attached to an aircraft.

In a report released in 1940, an unidentified plane was described as carrying searchlights. However, since Germany did not try to develop these systems, the exact nature of the object was not known.

During the Second World War, the crew members of bomber planes were not exactly sure what they were seeing. Germany also did not deploy surface-to-air missiles during the war. Although they experimented with this technology, they were never able to produce operational systems.

In December 1944, Germany’s first operational jet fighters took off at night. However, until the end of the war, they were still mainly stationed in Berlin. They were not able to account for the numerous sightings that occurred throughout that year.

Over the years, researchers have generally accepted the notion that Kenneth Arnold’s encounter with an unidentified flying object in the Pacific Northwest in 1947 was the beginning of the modern UFO phenomenon. However, it’s becoming more clear that other similar sightings were also reported by aircrew members around five years before his encounter with the object.

48,500 years old Zombie Virus Resurrected In French Lab..As the world warms up, vast tranches of permafrost are melting, releasing material that's been trapped in its icy grip for years. This includes a slew of microbes that have lain dormant for hundreds of millennia in some cases. 

To study the emerging microbes, scientists have now revived a number of these "zombie viruses" from Siberian permafrost, including one thought to be nearly 50,000 years old – a record age for a frozen virus returning to a state capable of infecting other organisms. 

The team behind the work, led by microbiologist Jean-Marie Alempic from the French National Centre for Scientific Research, says these reanimating viruses are potentially a significant threat to public health, and further study needs to be done to assess the danger that these infectious agents could pose as they awake from their icy slumber. 

"One quarter of the Northern Hemisphere is underlain by permanently frozen ground, referred to as permafrost," write the researchers in their paper. 

"Due to climate warming, irreversibly thawing permafrost is releasing organic matter frozen for up to a million years, most of which decompose into carbon dioxide and methane, further enhancing the greenhouse effect." 

The 48,500-year-old amoeba virus is actually one of 13 outlined in a new study currently in preprint, with nine of them thought to be tens of thousands of years old. The researchers established that each one was distinct from all other known viruses in terms of their genome. 

While the record-breaking virus was found beneath a lake, other extraction locations included mammoth wool and the intestines of a Siberian wolf – all buried beneath permafrost. Using live single-cell amoeba cultures, the team proved that the viruses still had the potential to be infectious pathogens. 

We're also seeing huge numbers of bacteria released into the environment as the world warms up, but given the antibiotics at our disposal it might be argued they would prove less threatening. A novel virus – as with SARS-CoV-2 – could be much more problematic for public health, especially as the Arctic becomes more populated. 

"The situation would be much more disastrous in the case of plant, animal, or human diseases caused by the revival of an ancient unknown virus," write the researchers. 

"It is therefore legitimate to ponder the risk of ancient viral particles remaining infectious and getting back into circulation by the thawing of ancient permafrost layers." 

This team has form for diligently digging up viruses in Siberia, with a previous study detailing the discovery of a 30,000-year-old virus. Like the new record holder, that was also a pandoravirus, a giant big enough to be visible using light microscopy. 

The revived virus has been given the name Pandoravirus yedoma, which acknowledges its size and the type of permafrost soil that it was found in. The researchers think there are many more viruses to find too, beyond those that only target amoebas. 

Many of the viruses that will be released as the ice thaws will be completely unknown to us – although it remains to be seen how infectious these viruses will be once they're exposed to the light, heat and oxygen of the outdoor environment. These are all areas that could be investigated in future studies.  

Virologist Eric Delwart from the University of California, San Francisco, agrees that these giant viruses are just the start when it comes to exploring what lies hidden beneath the permafrost. Though Delwart wasn't involved in the current study, he has plenty of experience resuscitating ancient plant viruses. 

"If the authors are indeed isolating live viruses from ancient permafrost, it is likely that the even smaller, simpler mammalian viruses would also survive frozen for eons."

Planet-killing stars can cover up their crimes. Here's how we could catch them.

Despite providing a nurturing home for planets for billions of years, stars sometimes turn treacherous and eat their children. With time, the evidence of that filicide sinks into the core of a star, never to be visible again. 

But now, astronomers have found a way to catch murderous stars red-handed and figured out how long we have until the case grows cold

When stars get hungry

Stars can potentially kill (although astronomers prefer to use the more polite term "engulf") their planets at a variety of stages in the stars' life cycles. At one end of the cycle, when typical sunlike stars are about to die, they swell and turn red, becoming giant or supergiant stars.

When this happens, any inner worlds unlucky enough to be too close will be consumed. The outer planets of the system may suffer as well, as the shifting gravitational landscape caused by the dying stars' convulsions can send planets careening into their parent star. This fate will befall our own solar system in about 4.5 billion years, when the sun will destroy Mercury, Venus and likely Earth.

But it's not just fits of old age that can destroy a planet. It also happens when stars are young. The early formation days of a solar system are an especially violent time. The protostar at the center grows in both temperature and density — but fitfully, occasionally throwing off massive tantrum storms of plasma.

Meanwhile, the planets begin evolving around the temperamental star. Accreting from smaller building blocks, the planetesimals crash into each other, gravitationally destabilize each other and generally roughhouse as they attempt to become full-fledged planets. Naturally, all this commotion ejects some material from the system, with other material flowing into the still-forming star.

A tale told of metals 

This influx of planet-building material into the central star can be slow or fast. In some cases, a steady trickle of heavy elements makes its way to the star over millions of years. In that case, it's less a case of outright planetary murder and more like a slow strangulation of the ingredients needed to build more or bigger worlds around a star. In other cases, an entire planet crashes right into the star, disappearing completely in the blink of an eye.

The ferocious energy and searing temperature inside a star are more than enough to completely destroy a planet. And that's assuming the planet even survives entry and isn't torn to shreds by the gravitational tidal forces around the star as the planet passes close. Within only a few years, an Earth-like planet would be entirely consumed.

The only remaining evidence that a star killed one of its planets is an extra abundance of metals, meaning, in astronomers' context, any element heavier than helium. And these are the elements — like silicon, oxygen and carbon — that planets need to grow.

Over time, the engulfed metals will slowly slink their way to the heart of a star, simply because those elements are heavier than the hydrogen and helium that make up the vast bulk of a star. Astronomers can only determine what a star is made of based on what's on the surface, because the surface is the only part of the star to emit light. It's from the spectral fingerprint of that light that scientists can figure out what elements are inside a star. And so once the metals slink into the depths of the star, it will successfully hide any evidence of its past crimes from astronomers' prying eyes.

Twin paradox 

But how long does that cosmic cover-up take? Early estimates, based on the simple diffusion of metals within a star, said billions of years or more, meaning any star we could observe wouldn't be able to hide.

But a new study submitted for publication in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society takes a more nuanced approach. In an attempt to build a detailed accounting of how long the evidence can remain, the research team created dozens of simulated stars and simulated situations of how and when the stars could eat their planets. In their simulations, the astronomers accounted for the fact that metal-enriched material inside a star will have different densities than its surroundings and that this can set up currents that drag those metals down faster than gravity alone would.

Naturally, the answer is different for every star, as it depends on how massive the star is and how much planetary material it consumed. But in general, the astronomers found that stars hang on to metals in their surface for less than a billion years.

Thus, to find evidence of "planet-cide," astronomers have to catch a star younger than about a billion years old. Also, they can't just look at a single star in isolation, as it's impossible to tell if that star ate a planet (or more) or was simply born with that excess amount of metals. Instead, astronomers must look at binary systems in which one star has significantly more metals than its companion. In those limited cases — binary systems that are younger than a billion years old — astronomers can finally catch the criminal.

Exceptional Discovery Of Ancient Fresco Depicting Mythological Scenes In Peru

Archaeologists report they have made an exceptional discovery in Peru. An ancient fresco that has been lost for over a century has been rediscovered. Scientists have previously seen the fresco depicting mythological scenes in old black-and-white photographs, and now researchers can study the ancient drawings in detail at the site.

"It's an exceptional discovery, first of all, because it is rare to unearth wall paintings of such quality in pre-Colombian archeology," said Sam Ghavami, the Swiss archeologist who led excavations that uncovered the mural in October.

The pre-Hispanic fresco "Huaca pintada", in northern Peru, had not been seen in a century.

Ghavami spent four years looking for the rock painting, which he believes could be around 1,000 years old, with a team of Peruvian students.

"The composition of this painting is unique in the history of mural art in pre-Hispanic Peru," added the archaeologist, who trained at the University of Freiburg in Germany.

The ancient uncovered mural is about 30 meters (98 feet) long and forms a part of the “Huaca pintada” temple, which belonged to the Moche civilization that flourished from the 1st to 8th century. Famous for its ceramic art, the Moche people, the Moon, the rain, iguanas, and spiders. Their ancient beliefs and artistic skills are reflected in the newly discovered, extremely well-preserved mural that has images in blue, brown, red, white, and mustard yellow paint.

A procession os ancient warriors heading toward a birdlike deity is visible in one part of the mural.

The mural is part of the "Huaca pintada" temple which belonged to the Moche civilisation that flourished from the 1st to 8th century.

The painted images "appear to be inspired by the idea of a sacred hierarchy built around a cult of ancestors and their intimate links with the forces of nature,"  Ghavami told the AFP.

He told AFP that deciphering the mural's message would form part of his research. Still, he believes it "could be interpreted as a metaphorical image of the political and religious order of the region's ancient inhabitants."

Until now, archeologists had only seen the "Huaca pintada" fresco in old black and white photographs.

As reported by the AFP, "the discovery is also unusual as it shows a mixture of styles and elements of two pre-Incan cultures: the Moche and the Lambayeque, who lived on Peru's north coast between 900 and 1350 AD.

The mural's existence was only known via black and white photos taken in 1916 by the German ethnologist Hans Heinrich Bruning, who was living in Peru when he heard of the site after treasure hunters tried to loot it, but found nothing of value.

As the years went on, thick foliage took over, and no one had tried to look for the paintings until it piqued Ghavami's interest and he went in search of the long-lost fresco.

However, first he had a long battle to obtain permission from the family who own the land where the mural was found."
