Pulsars Could Explain the Excess of Gamma Radiation Coming from the Center of the Milky Way

Ever hear of the Galactic Center GeV Excess? No, it’s not a cosmic rock band, although that’s a great name for one. Actually, it’s what astronomers call a super-high rate of gamma-ray radiation coming from the heart of our Milky Way Galaxy. Since this Galactic Center Excess was first detected in 2009, people thought it might be a signature of dark matter annihilating itself in mass quantities. But, as with any unexplained phenomenon in space, others disagreed. It could also have something to do with Sagittarius A*, the galaxy core’s own supermassive black hole. Or, it might be some other kind of strange burst event. Now, an astronomer at the Australian National University suggests that rapidly spinning neutron stars may be the culprits behind this high-energy galactic mystery.
The work by Associate Professor Roland Crocker and published in Nature Astronomy does not change the fact that the excess exists. However, it does offer another less-murky explanation than dark matter. “It is based on millisecond pulsars, neutron stars that spin really quickly, around 100 times a second,” he said in a press release statement. He noted that astronomers have detected gamma-ray emissions from some individual millisecond pulsars before in the neighborhood of the Sun. “So, we know these objects emit gamma rays.”
Millisecond Pulsars Emit Gamma Radiation
Pulsars are the remains of massive stars that died in supernova explosions. The core of the star collapses into a spinning compressed ball of neutrons. They’re packed together in a region no bigger than about 20 km (12 miles) across. The neutron star sends out pulses of electromagnetic radiation from its poles as it spins. The term “pulsar” means “pulsating radio source” and is a perfect description of these oddball objects. The best-known pulsar is at the heart of the Crab Nebula. It spins 30 times per second.

The Crab Nebula is powered by a quickly spinning, highly magnetized neutron star called a pulsar, which was formed when a massive star ran out of its nuclear fuel and collapsed. The combination of rapid rotation and a strong magnetic field in the Crab generates the Crab’s famous “signal.”
A millisecond pulsar turns very fast, making one spin in less than 10 milliseconds. It sends out electromagnetic radiation in the radio, X-ray, and gamma-ray spectrum bands. These types of pulsars may well originate in low-mass X-ray binary systems. That’s where one of the members is a star and the other is a black hole or neutron star. As highly energetic objects, millisecond pulsars are obvious candidates for gamma-ray emissions sources.
Modeling Millisecond Pulsars as Sources of the Galactic Center Excess
Crocker and his team modeled what they call the integrated emission from around 100,000 such pulsars. It turns out such a huge population could produce a signal similar to the Galactic Center Excess. He noted that they haven’t disproved the idea of dark matter being involved. “Our results point to another important source of gamma-ray production,” he said. “For instance, the gamma-ray signal from the Andromeda Galaxy may be due mostly to millisecond pulsars.”
The team used gamma-ray data from the Fermi Large Area Telescope to analyze the extent of the Galactic Center GeV Excess and consider the various proposed sources for it. In their results, they report on their analysis of millisecond pulsars in the center of the galaxy. They also discuss a weird kind of microwave “haze” in the core of the Milky Way, and the role these pulsars could play in its formation.

Rethinking Dark Matter’s Role in the Galactic Center Excess
The discovery that millisecond pulsars could play a major role in the gamma-ray excess changes the idea of dark matter’s role. For one thing, astronomers are still figuring out what this stuff really is. “The nature of dark matter is entirely unknown,” said Crocker. “So, any potential clues garner a lot of excitement. Now, with this new pulsar data, astronomers may need to look at other clues to the existence of dark matter, even as they try to explain its nature.

The anomaly to be known as the Nisanian Pentagram. According to scientists the most plausible scientific explanation would seem to be that it is a natural, albeit highly weathered, formation known as a volcanic plug.
Although they say it is a volcanic plug, it looks more like something which is artificially made, it just doesn't fit in the surrounding area.
It also seems impossible that it was a meteor impact, other meteor impacts don't leave craters like this one.
Now Google labelled this anomaly as 'H 666' 666: 6+6+6=18=1+8=9 - 9 is the number present in the universe.
Could it be that a long time ago extraterrestrial visitors have made this pentagram symbol to show the early civilization that the pentagram, the number 9, is the connection to the universe and other worlds?

A curious image captured by Google Earth shows what appears to be a strange star-shaped formation in a remote part of Algeria. The weird find, showcased by indefatigable UFO researcher Scott Waring over the weekend, is located in the Algerian town of Oum El Assel. Given the somewhat ominous label 'H 666' by Google, the anomaly (which can be seen in depth here) is rather difficult to decipher as it could either be an object sitting on the ground or a land formation. Be that as it may, Waring offered a rather fantastic theory for what it could be.
The UFO researcher argued that the anomaly is, in fact, a sign that was placed in the Algerian desert by interstellar visitors long ago. Specifically, he mused that ancient ETs left behind "symbols to be found and one day interpreted to reveal to humanity that many intelligent alien species have been here and will come back." While Waring may have recently raised awareness of the star-shaped curiosity, it would appear that the Google Earth image has been circulating online for quite some time and has come to be known as the Nisanian Pentagram.
While various sinister rumors surrounding what the anomaly could be have circulated online, the most plausible scientific explanation would seem to be that it is a natural, albeit highly weathered, formation known as a volcanic plug. A similar case of proverbial mistaken alien identity occurred earlier this year when what was thought to be a crashed flying saucer sitting in a remote part of South Africa was later revealed to be a man-made structure.

At 12:14pm on April 12, 2022 my wife called to me from the balcony of our hotel room at the Barbados Hilton in Bridgetown where we were staying on vacation. She told me to come and see the “UFO”. Yes, you read that headline correctly … although some think it may be time to retire the “UFO expert” description for this particular person after he admitted his belief that extraterrestrials may have infiltrated the minds and/or bodies of seagulls, flies and other creatures who spend a lot of time around humans in a worldwide attempt to spy on us and send data back to an intelligent species planning to attack and take over Earth.
“If aliens want to hack into and control a living organism, or construct a drone that's a perfect mimic, it would be best to choose something ordinary and ubiquitous, like a seagull or a housefly.”
Feeding gulls or refueling alien drones?
That sounds like the plot of a science fiction movie but it’s actually an observation made in The Mirror by none other than Nick Pope – the former Ministry of Defence UFO investigator, current UFO journalist and recent newsmaker with the variety of ‘expert’ proclamations he’s made about extraterrestrials. Those include warnings that aliens are afraid of Russian president Vladimir Putin and “Independence Day” actor-turned-Oscar-banned pugilist Will Smith, ETs like Queen Elizabeth II, and the most likely result of first contact between humans and aliens will be the demise of humans. Now Pope has weighed in on how said aliens might be preparing for that first contact – with lifelike seagull or housefly drones or real creatures whose brains are under their control.
"If aliens are secretly monitoring Earth, they'll be doing it up-close-and-personal - not with distant telescopes, but a way that would enable them to get crystal clear images and recordings, right under our noses.”
OK, most people would admit that would be a smart – albeit Twilight Zone-ish – strategy and certainly something humans would consider if they were the superior party in an alien encounter. In a way we’re doing the same thing on Mars, although not exactly secretly. However, Pope thinks we humans would be easily duped by these clandestine seagulls and houseflies … and he offers evidence to prove it.
"By way of comparison, aircraft like the stealth fighter and the stealth bomber were flying for years before they were public knowledge.”
Pope points out that the secret military inventions of the U.S. and other world powers have been kept well-hidden for years. If the military already has insect-size and birdlike drones that it allows the public to see, what kind of stealth versions are deep inside the secret test facilities? All of a sudden, that “Birds Aren’t Real” conspiracy theory that started out as a hoax isn’t so hoaxy after all.
"So next time you move to swat that fly, watch out - your actions might inadvertently start an interstellar war!"
Put down the swatter and nobody gets hurt.
So, why would extraterrestrials use seagulls or houseflies as their mind-controlled or robotic spies? Pope actually hits the nail on the head – they’re everywhere and they’re annoying, so we’re constantly swatting flies and chasing seagulls away from our seafood dinners or poop-covered cars. We’re so busy doing that, we’re distracted away from that one slightly funky-looking birds or slightly larger than the others fly who is sending training videos back to the alien military headquarters.
What started out sounding absurd just might be a brilliant assessment from the same UFO expert who brought you the recent news that Elon Musk may be blocking alien tweets.

Among the many, many UFO reports floating around out there, some of the more amazing are those that have been witnessed by trained military personnel. Even weirder still is when such unidentified objects are of incredible dimensions and seem to have physical effects on the witnesses. Out over the vast expanses of oceans of our world there have been numerous encounters with something very large and very strange, and which have served to cause physical effects on the ones who have seen them.
In the November 1981 issue of the Flying Saucer Review there is a curious case that was sent in a letter directly to the magazine by a witness who claims that she had had a very odd and terrifying experience out over the ocean with a massive, cigar-shaped unidentified object. The unnamed witness claims that at the time she had been working for NATO as an English language secretary based in Paris, and was aboard an Air Canada DC-8 aircraft on a military sanctioned mission with a party of fifty NATO personnel who were en route From Paris to Canada for the NATO Ministerial Meetings in Ottawa. At the time, the plane was deep over the Atlantic Ocean and the witness was in a window seat looking out enjoying the view of sky when something very strange and very large caught her attention. She describes it this way:
I was just reaching down to take a book from my hold-all, and was astonished to glimpse below the ‘plane something dark and absolutely tremendous that stood out in vivid contrast to the brightness all around. I could not believe my eyes. I pressed close to the window in unbelief and there, almost beneath the DC-8, was a gigantic dark grey ‘torpedo’. It seemed menacing and frightening, and I had the impression that it was stationary. It was utterly unlike anything that I had ever seen in my whole life. It looked as though made of steel. No portholes or windows were visible. No wings or projections. Nothing but the long perfect torpedo form, with its bullet-shaped head, and the rear end which was cut off sharply and squarely. The monster – and I emphasize that it was this terrifying size that impressed me – was well below us. I thought maybe 2,000 meters or so below us, but of course I had no way of being able to gauge this or to estimate the size of the thing. I looked down again quickly at the monster, and saw that a swathe of tiny clouds was beginning to pass over it, though it remained visible through them for a few seconds before being lost to my sight.
The sighting greatly disturbed the witness, but when she looked around the other passengers on the mostly empty flight were either asleep or lost in their books or thoughts, so it did not seem as if anyone else had seen that behemoth in the sky. At the time, she decided not to mention it, afraid that no one would believe her and that she would be ridiculed. The witness at the time had no real knowledge of the UFO phenomenon, and was rather confused and frustrated, but years later she would read several books on the subject that convinced her that she was not crazy. She would also begin to link what she had seen with a more frightening aspect of her experience that had happened after she had seen the object. She says of this:
After my glimpse of the monster ‘torpedo,’ I sat there brooding on it for half an hour or so, as I recall, when suddenly the DC- 8 started to shudder and pitch up and down violently, nosing steeply upwards, then steeply downwards, and this went on for a long, long time. I might explain that I had often encountered turbulence and ‘air-pockets’ when travelling by airplane, but it had never been anything remotely like this. This was as though we were in a gigantic lift that was shooting up and down madly. And, as though that was not enough, there now came a succession of reports like cannon-fire or thunder, filling the cabin.
Meanwhile the plane continued to shudder and ‘buck’ violently, and each time it came down I had the sensation that it was going to break in half. Throughout all this, everybody in the passenger’s cabin sat there petrified, absolutely silent, white-faced. After a while of this, I felt such panic that I rushed up front in search of a stewardess, and shouting “What’s going on? I’m scared!” I lifted a curtain in front of what seemed to be a sleeping-berth, and found a stewardess lying on the bed there, her hands covering her eyes as though she were weeping. She gave no response to my shouts, and all around there was total silence still, apart from the sound of the engines, overlaid by the repeated ‘claps of thunder’ and the continued bucking up and down of the plane.
I went back to my seat, and suddenly found myself bathed in perspiration. Every pore in my body seemed to be hard at work. And yet I noticed that the light dress I was wearing was still completely dry. A second time, I ran forward to the stewardesses’ quarters but there was nobody there. I hammered on the door leading to the cockpit, and shouted again, asking what was happening, as I was scared to death. The other stewardess came out and looked at me as though I were an idiot, and for a while said nothing. Then, calmly, she announced ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, do not be alarmed: the cabin is being depressurized.’ Shortly afterwards, the Captain was heard to make the same announcement.
Although at the time she had not put the two events together, upon learning more about UFOs she said that she was fairly convinced that they were intimately connected. Additionally, she expresses suspicion that the crew may have even been trying to cover something up about the incident. She explains:
I should like very much to know whether all that I have just described, about the violent behavior of the aircraft and the loud reports, is explicable as being due to the process of ‘depressurization’ and, if so, what are the circumstances that are likely to have made it necessary for such alarming and drastic steps to be taken? Is this sort of thing usual and normal – as the calm behaviour of the second-mentioned stewardess seemed to indicate? And why, in that case, had the other stewardess – as it seemed – been weeping? Was this simply because she, like all the rest of us, found the turbulence just a bit too alarming? ‘Or is it possible that she was still suffering from shock after seeing the gigantic ‘torpedo’? It certainly would be interesting to know the answers to these questions.
As for the plane’s crew, there was only the one stewardess who seemed upset. What is certain is that the pilots up in the nacelle certainly would have had abundant time in which to see the ‘cigar,’ as it cut slightly diagonally across their route from their port side and well below them. No explanation or comment whatsoever about the ‘cigar’ was given by the Captain or any other crew member, and no statement was made by the authorities when we landed in Canada. We were flying under NATO auspices and in that sense we were under military control. In such circumstances it would not be surprising if the cockpit crew and the stewardesses were less forthcoming about a UFO than perhaps they might have been, were it an ordinary passenger flight.
What was going on here? Another case involving a similarly enormous craft that had physical effects on a military vessel allegedly occurred on July 2, 1971, rather fittingly in the Bermuda Triangle, southeast of Florida. On this day, the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, USS John F. Kennedy CVA-67 was returning to Norfolk, Virginia after completing a two-week operational readiness exercise in the Caribbean, where they were to take some leave time before heading off for duty in the Mediterranean for six months. This main witness in this account, who reported it to the National UFO Reporting Center, was at the time assigned to the communications center monitoring teletypes printing the Fleet Broadcasts. On this evening at around 8:30 p.m., his equipment suddenly began going haywire, after which he soon learned that all communications on the ship were malfunctioning. Soon after this, there was someone shouting that something was hovering over the ship, and when he went up with some other personnel they saw something their training had never prepared them for. The witness would say:
As we looked up, we saw a large, glowing sphere. Well, it seemed large, however, there was no point of reference. That is to say if the sphere were low; say 100 feet above the ship, then it would have been about two to three hundred feet in diameter. If it said 500 feet about the ship then it would have been larger. At arm’s length it was the size of a beach ball. It made no sound that I could hear. The light coming from it wasn’t too bright, about half of what the sun would be. It pulsated from yellow to orange slowly. We didn’t get to look at for more than about 20 seconds because General Quarters (Battle stations) was sounding and the Communication Officer was in the passageway telling us to get back into the Comm Center. We returned and stayed there (that was out battle station). We didn’t have much to do because all the communication was still out.
After about 20 minutes, the teletypes started printing correctly again. We stayed at General Quarters for about another hour, then secured. I didn’t see or hear of any messages going out about the incident. Over the next few hours, I talked to a good friend that was in CIC (combat information center) who was a radar operator. He told me that all the radar screens were just glowing during the time of the incident. I also talked to a guy I knew that worked on the Navigational Bridge. He told me that none of the compasses were working and that the medics had to sedate a boatswain’s mate that was a lookout on the signal bridge. I figured this was the one yelling it was God. It was ironic that of the 5,000 men on a carrier, that only a handful actually saw this phenomenon. This was due to the fact that flight Ops had just be completed a short time before this all started and all the flight deck personnel were below resting. It should be noted that there are very few places where you can go to be out in the open air aboard a carrier.
He would soon after learn that not only the communications equipment, but many other pieces of equipment onboard, including even aircraft had ceased to function when the mysterious object had been looming there. Even more ominously, it would also seem that there were “men in trench coats” soon aboard interviewing witnesses on what they had seen and that there was an air of secrecy about the whole thing. The witness would explain of all of this:
From what I could learn, virtually all electronic components stopped functioning during the 20 minutes or so that whatever it hovered over the ship. The two Ready CAPs (Combat Air Patrol), which were two F-4 Phantoms that are always ready to be launched, would not start. I heard from the scuttlebutt (slang – rumor mill) that three or four “men in trenchcoats” had landed, and were interviewing the personnel that had seen this phenomenon. I was never interviewed, maybe because no one knew that I had seen it. A few days later, as we were approaching Norfolk, the Commanding and Executive Officers came on the closed-circuit TV system that we had. They did this regularly to address the crew and pass on information. During this particular session, the Captain told us how well we did on the ORE and about our upcoming deployment to the Mediterranean. At the very end of his spiel, he said “I would like to remind the crew, that certain events that take place aboard a Naval Combatant Ship, are classified and are not to be discussed with anyone without a need to know”. This was all the official word I ever received or heard of the incident.
An account that involves an even more gargantuan craft purportedly occurred on October 24, 1989, with a report made by a sailor aboard the Naval submarine USS Memphis (SSN-698), operating out of Cape Canaveral, Florida. At the time they were on Special Assignments protecting the Space Program, on patrol about 150 miles of the Florida coast when the submarine began experiencing a deluge of technical problems. Numerous electronics systems were going haywire, communications were totally shut down, tanks were blowing out of control, navigation ability was lost, and even the controls in the reactor were on the fritz. It was a very dangerous situation, and so they surfaced and went to diesel engines. The witness says of what happened next:
It was raining and the entire sky was red like a red neon sign. I saw a large inverted V-shaped UFO off the port side. The executive officer told me to stand fast and he would speak to the captain. In a minute, the captain appeared on the tower and asked me for a distance to the craft. The laser range finder determined the closest point was 200 meters, and the farthest point was 1,000 meters off the port. The UFO was not perpendicular to our ship but at about a 45′ angle.
This huge vessel was over a half-mile across. The UFO made a half-circle around our ship then passed across the stern causing our electronics systems to go crazy. We had permanent damage in communications and the sonar room. As the craft flew over the stern, I could see the rain stop under its red glow. The water seemed to rise almost afoot as the UFO passed over silently. When the UFO finished its swing across the stern it paused – the sky got brighter red and it simply moved off at tremendous speed inside 15 seconds. When the UFO left, our boat returned to normal with the exception of the radio and sonar. We did a quick system check and the captain ordered us to return to reactor power and get underway.
He then explains that after they reached port they were pulled aside by their superiors and put into what he calls “protective custody.” The atmosphere was apparently very intense, and they proceeded to be told the “official story” and that they should not talk about what they had seen. The witness would say of this:
We reached port in about 7 hours where I was taken into “protective custody.” Two enlisted men and I agreed we had witnessed a real UFO. I was the one who shot it with a laser range finder, so I was the only one that had its exact sizes. I shot that vessel as it hovered and I got solid readings, not spotty like I would on debris. We were in holding for about three hours when an officer from the Air Force arrived and gave us a line of bull about an exploding weather satellite. The Navy then transferred virtually everyone on the crew to new assignments. This included the captain, the executive officer and the entire crew. They were split up which almost never happens unless one of them gets a promotion or a new command, neither of which happened.
It seems to be a pattern that such incidents are swept under the carpet, only adding to the eerie vibe of such cases. What was going on in any of these cases? Are there these massive craft roaming about over the oceans of our world? What are they trying to say with these physicsl effects they have put forth? It is hard to say, and these remain a very curious corner of the UFO phenomenon indeed.

A shroud is a long piece of cloth, usually made of cotton or linen, that is wrapped around a corpse before it is buried or placed in a tomb – most often without a casket. The most famous shroud is the Shroud of Turin, which appears to be stained with the image of a man that many believe was Jesus, who, according to the biblical story, was only it for three days before he came back to life. The Shroud of Turin seems to come back to life as well – rising up in the news every few years as the debate over its authenticity rages on. Just a few weeks ago, a million-dollar prize was offered to anyone who can prove the shroud is not a forgery or show how it was forged. This week, an Italian scientist unveiled in a studya new X-ray technique he claims has proven the Shroud of Turin is 2,000 years old. Does he win the prize?

“We have therefore developed a method to measure the natural aging of flax cellulose using X-rays and then convert it into time elapsed since fabrication. The new dating method, based on a technique called Wide Angle X-ray Scattering, was first tested on linen samples already dated using other techniques, on samples that had nothing to do with the Shroud, and then applied to a sample taken from the Shroud of Turin.”
In an interview with National Catholic Register, Italian scientist Liberato De Caro explains how to the polymer chains of cellulose which make up cloth fibers gradually break over centuries due to the combined effect of temperature, humidity, light and chemical agents in the environment. He has spent 30 years studying this aging process using X-rays and developed a method of modeling it for various fibers of various ages. The end result is the Wide Angle X-ray Scattering (WAXS) technique which he proved to be reliable using fabrics ranging in age from 3000 BCE to 2000 CE. He then applied the technique to a sample of the Shroud of Turin and graphed the results.

In 1988, carbon-14 dating (radiocarbon dating) was used on Shroud samples by three separate laboratories which all concluded it was about seven centuries old and not authentic. De Caro claims carbon-14 dating is affected by contamination and fabric is filled with air spaces that can trap and hold contaminants no matter how thoroughly it is cleaned – the reason the 1988 carbon-14 dating gave different results on samples from the edge of the shroud compared to those from the middle. WAXS is non-destructive, can be performed on smaller samples and can be repeated for comparisons. In fact, De Caro’s tests were made on fibers from the same section as the 1988 tests … and delivered different results.
So … which test is right?
“However, the earlier study of pollen trapped in its fibers had already shown a consistent presence of pollen from the Middle East, in particular from the ancient region of Palestine, as if the Shroud had been in that geographical area and not in Europe for a significant period of its history.”
De Caro claims that another study on the pollen trapped in the shroud’s fibers shows the pollen came from the Middle East, not from Europe where the known history of the shroud began in the 1300s. In other words, the pollen proves the shroud was in the Middle East before the 1300s and WAXS shows it’s about 2,000 years old.
Bingo … drop the mic … pay Liberato De Caro the money. Right?
“It would be enough to take 1-mm-long samples from these threads, combine them with other linen samples taken from other ancient fabrics of known date, and involve several laboratories in a dating experiment using the technique we have developed that uses X-rays. It could also be carried out as a blind experiment, that is, without laboratories knowing which samples are taken from the Shroud compared with those taken from other linen fabrics, to avoid any possible bias in the data analysis by the authors of the research.”
To his credit, De Caro admits that even though his study was peer-reviewed, conducting the WAXS tests again in different labs with blind samples should be conducted to confirm the 2000-year age of the shroud. It should be noted that the majority of the reports on De Caro’s study have been made by religious media sites, not scientific ones.
It remains to be seen if this research is enough to prove the Shroud of Turin is not a 700-year-old fake and win the million-dollar prize.
Are the study results enough to prove it’s the burial shroud of Jesus? They’re going to need a bigger X-ray machine for that.

I was watching the SOHO sun viewer when I noticed a black cube in a few frames of the video. Right after the cube exited the sun...a huge solid black screen covered up 25% of the whole viewing area. Its clear that NASA is trying to hide these cubes from us. But thats less important than knowing what those cubes are doing? Why are they exiting and entering our sun? Could such a disturbance cause a solar flare that would destroy Earth? Is the sun hollow or are these Earth size ships just gathering rare particles that we have yet to discover?
We may never find out in our lifetime, but I still hold out hope that NASA will one day come clean and tell the public the truth. That aliens exist.

Hey all, hows it going? I found this old NASA photo and its just amazing. Its littered with structures from head to toe. The best of all the structures of course it at the northern pole area. There is a maze-like structure on the edge of a crater. There are also a lot of other structures in this photo. Literally every black area on this photo are structures. Which would mean the with so much surface of the moon covered in structures, the moon is obviously hollow. Its a space station that appreas moon like to decieve and observe primitive civilizations. I dare you to find better or more clear evidence than this. Such evidence does not exist...yet. But give me time.

Space Junk or Extraterrestrial “Satellite”, the “Black Knight” as it’s called today– has been around for quite some time now. This discovery is perhaps one of the most (in)famous space objects that orbit our Planet. This “Artificial Satellite” has caused mayor media interest since the late 50′s, and it has become one of the most talked about objects in space. First thought to be an Russian spy satellite, the Black Knight has gripped the interest of millions worldwide. According to monitoring agencies around the world, The Black knight has been transmitting radio signals for over 50 years now.
But according to many, this discovery was made much earlier than we thought. Rumors are that it was Nikola Tesla the first man to “intercept” a signal from this otherworldly satellite in 1899 after building a high-voltage radio device in Colorado Springs. After Tesla’s discovery in the next 30 to 50 years the signal was being intercepted more frequently until it was apparently “decoded”. Since the 1930′s Astronomers worldwide have been reporting strange radio signals which allegedly come from the “Black Knight”. In 1957, Dr. Luis Corralos of the Communications Ministry in Venezuela photographed it while taking pictures of Sputnik II as it passed over Caracas. The strange thing was that unlike the Sputnik one and two, The Black Knight Satellite orbited Earth from East to West.

The story of the Black Knight made its media debut in the 1940′s when the St. Louis Dispatch and The San Francisco Examiner wrote about the “Satellite” on May 14th 1954. On August 23, 1954 the technology magazine Aviation Week and Space Technology released a story that angered the Pentagon who were trying to keep the information secret. The short article stated: Pentagon scare over the observance of two previously unobserved satellites orbiting the earth has dissipated with the identification of the objects as natural, not artificial satellites. Dr. Lincoln LaPaz, expert on extraterrestrial bodies from the University of New Mexico, headed the identification project. One satellite is orbiting about 400 miles out, while the other track is 600 miles from the earth. Pentagon thought momentarily the Russians had beaten the U.S. to space explorations. Interest in the Black Knight was higher each year, in 1957, an unknown “object” was seen “shadowing” the Sputnik 1 Spacecraft. According to reports, the “unidentified object” was in Polar orbit, at that time The United Stated nor the Russians possessed the technology to maintain a spacecraft in Polar Orbit.
According to our research the first Polar orbiting satellite was launched in 1960. Polar orbits are often used for earth-mapping, earth observation, capturing the earth as time passes from one point and reconnaissance satellites. This would put the Black Knight in the category of a observational Satellite, the only question here is, who placed The Black Knight in a polar orbit and for what purpose? The Object continued to amaze Astronomers World Wide. In the 1960′s the Black Knight was located once again in Polar Orbit. Astronomers and Scientists calculated the objects weight to be over 10 tons which would be at that time the Heaviest Artificial Satellite to orbit our Planet. The Black Knights orbiting was unlike any other object orbiting Earth, as it was moving as twice as fast when compared to the man made Spacecrafts. There are also several reports that the Grumman Aircraft Corporation gave much importance to this mysterious “Satellite”, On September 3, 1960, seven months after the satellite was first detected by radar, a tracking camera at Grumman Aircraft Corporation’s Long Island factory took a photograph of the Black Knight.
At that point people all over the world started identifying the object in the sky, which could be seen as a red light moving at higher speed compared to other satellites in a East to West orbit. The Grumman Aircraft Corporation formed a committee to study the data received from the observations made but nothing was made public. In 1963, Gordon Cooper was launched into space. On his final orbit, he reported seeing a glowing green object in front of his capsule in the distance moving towards his Spacecraft. The Muchea tracking station, in Australia, which Cooper reported the object to, picked up this Unidentified object on Radar travelling East to West. NBC reported this but after Cooper returned to Earth, the Reporter were not allowed to ask Cooper about the unidentified object. The official explanation given to Coopers sighting were “high levels of carbon dioxide, which caused hallucinations“. The Black Knight has been a topic of interest all around the world.
Until today most of the “official” information on the mysterious object is kept safe and away from society. No one has answered some of the most simple and logical questions to ask, who placed that “satellite” in Polar orbit? To what purpose? Is the Black Knight an Extraterrestrial satellite sent to Earth to study the Human race? Did the Satellite attempt to communicate with the human race? Have we ignored attempted communications? One thing is for sure, The Black Knight remains as one of the most mysterious objects to orbit our planet. The Future Circular Collider: Its potential and lessons learnt from the LEP and LHC experiments
As researchers seek to learn more about the fundamental nature of our universe, new generations of particle accelerators are now in development in which beams of particles collide ever more precisely and at ever higher energies. Professor Stephen Myers, former Director of Accelerators & Technology at CERN and currently Executive Chair of ADAM SA, identifies both the positive and negative lessons which future projects can learn from previous generations of accelerators. Building on the extraordinary feats of researchers in the past, his findings offer particularly important guidance for one upcoming project: the Future Circular Collider.
The Standard Model of particle physics aims to provide a complete picture of all elementary particles and forces which comprise our universe. So far, the model has held up to even the most rigorous experiments which physicists have thrown at it, but there are still many aspects of the universe that it can’t explain. Among these is dark matter: the enigmatic substance which makes up much of the universe’s overall mass, but whose composition remains completely unknown to researchers.
In addition, there are still no concrete answers to the question of why the universe contains so much more matter than antimatter, or why tiny, chargeless neutrinos have any mass. For many physicists, it is now clear that the Standard Model in its current form isn’t enough to answer these questions. This ultimately calls for a new theory which can encompass all of these as-yet mysterious phenomena and offer a deeper understanding of how our Universe evolved after the Big Bang.

This may sound like an immensely ambitious goal, but the discoveries made by particle physicists so far have been no less transformative for our understanding of how the universe works. So far, the Standard Model has been tested by the Large Electron Positron collider (LEP). Already, the measurements of particle interactions offered by this experiment have had huge implications for our understanding of the infinitesimally small and the universe itself. Even further advances have since been made by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) leading to the discovery of the Higgs boson and the study of how it interacts with other fundamental particles. Studying the properties of the newly found Higgs boson opens a new chapter in particle physics.
The integrated FCC programme is the fastest and most effective way of exploring the electroweak sector and searching for new physics.
In a recently published essay, entitled ‘FCC: Building on the shoulders of giants’, in a special issue of the EPJ Plus journal, Professor Stephen Myers looks back at the building of the LEP and LHC colliders that contributed to the development of the Standard Model. His essay also discusses what the building and commissioning of the LEP can teach researchers in the design of the newly proposed circular electron-collider (FCC-ee).
Possibilities with particle accelerators Particle colliders are at the core of all experimental research in fundamental physics. After inducing head-on collisions between beams of particles, travelling in opposite directions at close to the speed of light, researchers can closely analyse the particles formed in the aftermath. Ideally, this will allow them to identify any elementary particles contained within the colliding particles and the fundamental forces which govern the interactions between them.

Among the first experiments to do this successfully on a large scale was the LEP, which induced collisions between beams of electrons and positrons – their antimatter counterparts. ‘In the autumn of 1989, the LEP delivered the first of several results that still dominate the landscape of particle physics today’, Myers recalls. ‘It is often said that LEP discovered ‘electroweak’ radiative corrections to a high degree of certainty’.
This discovery relates to two fundamental forces described by the Standard Model: electromagnetism (which governs interactions between charged particles) and the weak nuclear force in atoms (which is responsible for radioactive decay). Although the two forces appear very different from each other at low energies, they essentially merge into the same force at extremely high energies – implying that they split apart in the earliest moments of the universe.
The unification of these two forces in a single theory was undoubtedly one of the most important advances in particle physics to date, and ultimately opened up a new era of precision in the field. Although the LEP finished operating in 2000, it continues to set the standard for both modern and future experiments.
On this year’s Space Day in China, Wu Yanhua, deputy head of the China National Space Administration (CNSA) said that China wants to build an asteroid monitoring system. Further, the nation wants to create a system that allows it to redirect asteroids similar to NASA’s D.A.R.T defense system.

Wu said that the CNSA wants to create a ground-based asteroid monitoring system to catalog any near-Earth objects (NRO) that pose a threat to both Earth and our space endeavors. If it discovered any near-Earth objects that we need to be aware of, tech could be developed to deal with them.
Wu told the Chinese state-owned news agency, the Global Times that China is also developing simulation software to help judge impact possibilities and outcomes.
This simulation may prove to be similar to one that NASA ran in 2021 when it simulated an asteroid headed for Earth. Insiders told Global Times that the system is still in the establishment phase. As such, the Chinese government has not approved it just yet. Still, seeing China working towards an asteroid monitoring system is good news for everyone.
While NASA has continued to work on ways to combat asteroid impacts—like the upcoming test for its D.A.R.T. spacecraft—there’s still a long way to go. Asteroids can still pop up out of almost nowhere without an early warning system in place.
In fact, we recently discovered an asteroid just two hours before impact. Luckily, it was a small object, and not something bigger like this 80-mile wide comet from the Oort Cloud.
With larger asteroids though, NASA and other space agencies seem to agree that the results of an impact could be catastrophic. That’s why having an early warning and asteroid monitoring system in place is vital.

On top of its asteroid monitoring system, Wu says China hopes to test an asteroid redirect probe within four years. The test will see a probe find an NRO and then crash into it to alter its orbital trajectory.
This is exactly what NASA is already doing with D.A.R.T. However, NASA is doing it roughly 6.8 million miles from Earth. China has not shared how far it plans to go out with its test. With some luck, the CNSA hopes to test the probe in 2025 or 2026.
It’s good to see other nations taking the threats posed by asteroids seriously. NASA is working on its own plans, and now China is throwing its hat in the ring.
With plans to take humanity back to the Moon, and even one day to put people on Mars, we’re going to need all the help we can get fighting back against the dangerous forces at play in space.

Collapsing ice shelves on the eastern coast of Antarctica has revealed something never seen before: a landform that might be an island. But this is not the first newly revealed island off the Antarctic coast. A series of islands have appeared as the ice shelves along the continent’s coastline has disintegrated over the past few years.
The island is visible in the three images, which were taken by Landsat satellites between 1989 and 2022. The landform maintains its shape, even through the ice around it has melted, shifted, and disappeared. With the collapsing ice, scientists think large icebergs likely smashed into the island, but the island maintained its shape.

However, scientists are unsure if there is any solid earth below the mound of snow and ice.
“It is undoubtedly similar to other ice islands, such as Bowman Island (also visible in the image above),” said John Gibson, a scientist with the Australian Antarctic Division, in a post on NASA’s Earth Observatory. Gibson thinks the feature is likely an ice island: a large, heavy cap of ice sitting solidly on an underwater peak.
Gibson called the ice island “self-perpetuating,” meaning that snow and ice accumulating on the island’s surface balances out the amount of melting that occurs underwater. If that balance becomes disrupted by a decrease in snowfall, then the ice island could thin and float away. “The unnamed island is a more-or-less permanent feature of the landscape,” Gibson said, “but may someday detach from the underlying rock and become an iceberg.”
NASA says that elevation data in December 2021 from the Advanced Topographic Laser Altimeter System (ATLAS) on NASA’s Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite 2 (ICESat-2) shows at least part of the island stands 30 to 35 meters (100 to 115 feet) above the surface of the sea.
NASA says that most of the Glenzer and Conger ice shelves are gone, having collapsed earlier this year. And with further collapse of Antarctic ice shelves due to the warming ocean, more of these islands might be popping up.
“The discovery of more of them is likely to continue in the years ahead due to shrinking glacial and sea ice,” said Christopher Shuman, a University of Maryland, Baltimore County, glaciologist based at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. “Obviously these are ‘new to us’ features, but we also have more people and more tools to look at the margins of Antarctica now. Several examples do not make a trend, but they do imply that other once-hidden features are likely to be noticed in the years to come.”

In fact, there are more than 3,000 varieties of snakes slithering around the globe and the biggest serpents? Well, let’s just say they put the garden snake in your backyard to absolute sssshame.
I found a huge alien structure on the floor of the ocean. It's 9 miles or 14km long. The object has left a trail on the ocean floor behind it. The trail goes off for hundreds of miles. This trail indicates that its moved alot over the years, and I believe it's been on the ocean floor for several thousand years. The object is about 300-500 meters tall! Its no wonder why Google prefers to blur out most of the ocean floor. This object can only be seen clearly on the Internet version of Google map. The downloaded version has a png of the ocean waves on top of the structure so the detail is blurred. Yes, Google did it on purpose, yes Google is helping keep the public in the dark about the existence of aliens.

Bats will have a large contribution to virus transmission between species in the future, a modelling study finds.

Over the next 50 years, climate change could drive more than 15,000 new cases of mammals transmitting viruses to other mammals, according to a study published in Nature1. It’s one of the first to predict how global warming will shift wildlife habitats and increase encounters between species capable of swapping pathogens, and to quantify how many times viruses are expected to jump between species.
Many researchers say that the COVID-19 pandemic probably started when a previously unknown coronavirus passed from a wild animal to a human: a process called zoonotic transmission. A predicted rise in viruses jumping between species could trigger more outbreaks, posing a serious threat to human and animal health alike, the study warns — providing all the more reason for governments and health organizations to invest in pathogen surveillance and to improve health-care infrastructure.
The study is “a critical first step in understanding the future risk of climate and land-use change on the next pandemic”, says Kate Jones, who models interactions between ecosystems and human health at University College London.
The research predicts that much of the new virus transmission will happen when species meet for the first time as they move to cooler locales because of rising temperatures. And it projects that this will occur most often in species-rich ecosystems at high elevations, particularly areas of Africa and Asia, and in areas that are densely populated by humans, including Africa’s Sahel region, India and Indonesia. Assuming that the planet warms by no more than 2 °C above pre-industrial temperatures this century — a future predicted by some climate analyses — the number of first-time meetings between species will double by 2070, creating virus-transmission hotspots, the study says.
“This work provides us with more incontrovertible evidence that the coming decades will not only be hotter, but sicker,” says Gregory Albery, a disease ecologist at Georgetown University in Washington DC and a co-author of the study.
The challenges of modelling
To make their predictions, Albery and his colleagues developed and tested models, and ran simulations over a five-year period. They combined models of virus transmission and species distribution under various climate-change scenarios, focusing on mammals because of their relevance to human health.

The team built the species-distribution model to predict where mammals would move to find more liveable habitats as the planet warms. The virus-transmission model predicts the probability of a virus jumping between species for the first time, by taking into account where species might meet as their habitats shift and how closely related they are evolutionarily (viruses are most likely to transmit between related species).
The modelling seems “technically impeccable”, says Ignacio Morales-Castilla, a global-change ecologist at the University of Alcalá, Spain, although he points out that forecasting exercises such as this sometimes need to include unrealistic assumptions. But he adds that the breadth and scope of the research and its ability to identify which parts of the world might be most at risk “clearly stand out”.
One assumption the researchers had to make was about how far and wide species would spread as the climate changes. But factors such as whether mammals can adapt to local conditions or physically cross barriers in landscapes are difficult to predict.
Bats are projected to be involved in viral transmission regardless of these factors, the study found. Thought to be part of the origins of COVID-19, bats are known reservoirs of viruses and make up about 20% of mammals. The team says that — in part because bats can fly — they are less likely to experience barriers to shifting their habitats.
Spillovers to humans?
Although Jones applauds the study, she urges caution when discussing its implications for human health. “Predicting the risk of viral jumps from mammals into humans is more tricky, as these spillovers take place in a complex ecological and human socio-economic environment,” she says.
Many factors could reduce the risk to human health, including increased investment in health care or a virus being unable to infect humans for some reason, she adds.
But the researchers urge that there is no time to waste. Earth has already warmed by more than 1 °C above pre-industrial temperatures, and this is driving species migration and disease swapping. “It’s happening and it’s not preventable, even in the best climate-change scenarios,” Albery says.
Albery and one of his co-authors, Colin Carlson, a global-change biologist also at Georgetown University, say that even though some increase in disease transmission is inevitable, that is no excuse for inaction. The researchers call on governments and the international community to improve the monitoring and surveillance of wild animals and zoonotic diseases, particularly in future hotspots such as southeast Asia. Improving health infrastructure is also essential, they say.
As people begin to prepare for and adapt to global warming, most efforts focus on activities such as halting deforestation or reinforcing sea walls. But Carlson says pandemic preparedness and disease surveillance are climate-change adaptation, too.

A UFO sighting by a Marshall County police officer in 1979 resulted in a smashed windscreen, temporary blindness, and a loss of time. An unexplained encounter with an unidentified flying object and the investigation that followed.
Sheriff Val Johnson's 1979 Marshall County UFO Incident
By any standard, the close encounter that occurred in the Red River Valley flatlands of far northwestern Minnesota in the early hours of August 27, 1979, must be judged one of the most remarkable - and evidential - UFO cases ever recorded. Unlike other potentially important UFO incidents, this one had the good fortune of being fully investigated and documented soon after its occurrence.
Deputy Sherrif Val Johnson, 35, was on duty on the west end of Marshall County, not far from North Dakota and approximately 45 miles south of the Canadian border. Around 1:40 a.m. Johnson, driving on County 5 west of Stephen, saw a light through his side window. The light was to his south, shining from a grove of trees standing alongside Highway 220, which he was approaching. It looked too glaring to be a vehicle headlight. Therefore, he reasoned, it could be from a downed airplane, perhaps one flown by drug smugglers from Canada.
Still, Johnson was not alarmed enough to call it into headquarters in Warren. First, he wanted to know with certainty what the light was. He turned south on 220 and accelerated to 65 mph. Now he was close enough to see that, oddly, the light was not illuminating the area or casting shadows. At that instant the light moved toward him, travelling so fast that it crossed the mile and a half separating him and it almost instantaneously. It made no sound, and even at close range it still looked like a blinding light.
"I heard glass breaking and saw the inside of the car light up real bright with white light,"he told reporter Jim Durkin the next day."It was very, very extremely bright. That's all I can remember... After the light hit my vehicle, I don't remember a thing."
When he returned to consciousness, his head was resting on the steering wheel, and his eyes were on the red "ENGINE" light on the dashboard. Lifting his head, he looked out the window and was alarmed to see the car had skidded sideways across the northbound lane and now faced eastward. The front tires were touching the gravel on the shoulder. Johnson could see only with difficulty.
He radioed headquarters and requested assistance. It was 2:19 a.m. His voice was shaky when he tried to answer the dispatcher's question about what had happened. "I don't know," he said. "Something attacked my car. I heard glass breaking, and my breaks locked up, and I don't know what the hell happened."
Deputy Greg Winskowski arrived on the scene shortly. Johnson was still inside the car, and when Winskowski opened the door, he saw a red bump on his colleague's forehead, leading him to deduce that Johnson had hit his head against the steering wheel and been knocked unconscious. Winskowski called an ambulance from the Warren hospital.

The ambulance driver thought Johnson appeared to be in a mild state of shock. At the hospital, Dr. W. A. Pinsonneault examined his eyes, which had a pinkish irritation on their surface. He was unable to examine them for long, however, because the doctor's probe light hurt so much that Johnson could not stand to be exposed to it for more than a few moments at a time. Pinsonneault likened them to "mild welder's burns" (caused by exposure to intense light) and handed out salve and bandages. Johnson gave a taped statement at the sheriff's office at 5 a.m. and then was driven home.
Sheriff Dennis Brekke, who had come upon the scene of the incident shortly after Winskowski's arrival, drove Johnson's patrol car, a 1977 Ford LTD, to the department garage. The drive was not a simple exercise because the car was damaged in a number of peculiar ways:
The inside headlight on the driver's side was smashed, though not its companion immediately to the left. On the hood, four feet four inches behind the smashed light and close to the windshield, was a flat-bottomed, circular dent, half an inch in diameter. (An investigator who saw it on the twenty-ninth noted, "As the 'creases' in the rear of the dent reveal, the pressure of the blow was delivered primarily downward and toward the windshield.") A crack in the windshield on the driver's side, about a foot and a half behind the dent, ran top to bottom, with four apparent impacts; it looked as if a cluster of small objects, stones perhaps, had done the damage. The car's electric clock, set correctly at 7 p.m. when Johnson came on duty, was 14 minutes late. So, weirdly, was the deputy's wind-up wristwatch, set at the same time.
Allan Hendry, who saw the car the following day, has described the other damage:
"The red plastic lens covering the roof light on the driver's side (2nd from left) shows a triangular puncture, and the lens was dislodged from the housing. Neither the missing piece of plastic nor any foreign debris could be found trapped inside the lamp housing. There is no apparent damage to the housing itself...
"The shaft of the three-foot roof antenna set on a spring-loaded base has been bent over at a 60-degree angle starting 5 1/2" above the spring. Insect matter can be seen still clinging to the metal (though the shaft is coated quite tenaciously with this tissue material). Oddest of all, the large "bubble" lamp is just inches in front of the antenna, and is virtually the same height as the location of the bend, but is unscathed...
"The trunk antenna is identical to the rooftop model... The bend this time is sharper still - 90 degrees - and involves only the upper 3 1/2" of the shaft. There is a rising angle of incidence from the first bend to the second one; with a 4'7" separation between antennas (horizontally) and an 18" rise in the second bend; this results in an 18-degree angle from front to back. This second antenna is for a CB radio. There was no damage to the car's regular telescopic antenna on the front hood. All the damage favoured the driver's side of the car. The rear antenna, 2'11" from the left side of the car, is the closest the damage got to the car's centerline."
At 11 a.m. Sherrif Brekke took his deputy, who still had bandages over his eyes, to Grand Forks, North Dakota, for a more comprehensive eye examination by opthalmologist Leonard Prochaska. Dr Prochaska found that Johnson's problems had cleared up. He was not surprised; as he would tell Hendry, it is not unusual for corneal flash burns (usually caused by exposure to strong sources of ultraviolet radiation such as a welders arc) to heal within hours.
Investigation and Analysis.
That morning the Sheriff also phoned the Centre for UFO Studies (CUFOS), then headquartered in Evanston, Illinois, and reported the incident. Allan Hendry, CUFOS' full-time investigator, took the call and quickly arranged to fly to the site the next day. Then he called military and civilian aviation facilities in Minnesota and North Dakota to see if any had picked up unusual traffic on the radar. None had.
Meanwhile, the Marshall County officers had found shattered pieces of headlight glass next to the milepost sign Johnson was near when the light accelerated in his direction. This seemed to establish that the "collision," if that is what it was, happened slightly over one mile south of the 5/220 intersection. The car travelled some 855 feet before dark skid marks in the pavement indicated that the brakes had locked up. The marks went on for an additional 99 feet before they curved to the east and crossed into the northbound lane. From an experiment with a car similar to the one Johnson had been driving, Brekke concluded that Johnson had been travelling at 48 mph when the skid marks started.
On the twenty-ninth Hendry, Johnson, Brekke, and others scoured the site. Nothing out of the ordinary registered on a Geiger counter. No additional physical evidence was recovered. Hendry determined that the damage was inconsistent with anything an airplane could have caused, and nothing he learned about Johnson's character and reputation led him to suspect the office of perpetrating a hoax - though, as we shall see, one commentator on the case would argue for this explanation of the case.
Meridan French, a windshield expert from the Glass Division of Ford Motor Company, flew to Warren to examine the fractures personally. His report reads in part:
"There were four distinct and separate fracture origins. One was on the inboard surface of the inner glass ply and three were on the exterior surface of the outer ply. Because all four origins were at different locations in the windshield, it is concluded that they represent four independent events. From the fracture patterns, however, it appears that the time between at least three events was extremely short, on the order of a few milliseconds... There was no penetration of the windshield laminate anywhere and no tears in the polyvinyl butyral interlayer... The character of all glass fractures showed them to be the result of mechanical forces rather than thermal stresses. In fact, there was no evidence of unusual heat, either general or localized... None of the four fracture origins were individually usual, any of which could be artificially reproduced. However, as a group and in combination they are difficult to explain... I judge the sequence of events to be as follows:
1. The first fracture was of the inboard ply with the fracture origin at the inside surface. The type of fracture would indicate an impact on the exterior surface of the windshield exactly opposite the fracture point. The impacting object was probably not metallic or stone-like because there was no apparent damage to the exterior surface at the point of impact. I would estimate the impacting object to be very firm, perhaps even hard, with a mass velocity sufficient to produce a relatively high (10,000 to 12,000 psi), highly localized stress. Examples of object types could range from a softball, baseball, or golfball to a rubber-headed hammer. Such a failure could also have been made with a blow from the side of a tightly closed fist.
In a laminated glass impact failure as described here, it is not unusual for the glass ply opposite the impact to fail while the impacted plate does not. Glass failure always originates as a defect or point of damage, and it often happens that the plate opposite the impact is the weaker of the two in the highly stressed impact area.
2. The second failure to occur was in the outer glass ply at a point approximately 0.9" below the first origin. The fracture is horizontal and forms a point of tangency between two circular crack patterns, one above the other. Failure originated on the outside surface from a relatively low level bending stress for which there are several possibilities:
Localized loading or pushing on the glass from the inside. This is unlikely because of the limited space between the glass and the padded cowl at the origin location.
Positive pressure inside the car which would bend the windshield outward.
Negative pressure outside the car which would achieve the same effect.
Localized inward bending of the glass by a relatively small impacting object for the first fracture would have caused a tensile bending stress in the outboard surface in the area of the second failure. This is the most plausible in view of the circular crack pattern above the second fracture origin.
3. The third fracture also originated on the outside surface about 1.0" below the second origin. In this case, the glass is severely crushed in a small, roughly circular area as though impacted by an extremely hard object but without sufficient force to cause additional cracking of the inner glass opposite the point of impact. There was no visible residue from the impacting object in the crushed glass area when examined closely with a 20x magnifier.
4. The fourth fracture origin was also on the exterior of the windshield, approximately 5.5" above the point of the second failure. This is also a bending stress failure oriented horizontally but is believed to be a secondary failure originating at a crack from an earlier failure.
5. There is also a band of very fine fractures several inches long with some degree of glass crushing, running almost vertically and just to the passenger side of the four principle fracture origins. This last cracking is all in the outboard ply, and I believe it to be a completely secondary fracture system probably resulting from normal flexing or cracking of the already broken windshield in moving the car after the original incident.
Even after several days of reflection on the crack pattern and apparent sequence of fractures, I still have no explanation for what seemed to be inward and outward forces acting almost simultaneously. I can only (conclude) ... that all cracks were from mechanical forces of an unknown source."
About the dent in the hood, French observed that evidently "some 1/2" diameter, flat-ended object made a forceful impact with the hood at that location and then tilted toward the windshield. It may even have been the source of the windshield impacts."
A team of engineers at the materials testing laboratory at Honeywell, Inc., Minneapolis, studied the two antennas, the glass pieces from the headlight, and the punctured plastic lens from the rooftop lamp. The engineers' analysis indicated that "flying particles" (such as rocks or stones) were responsible for the damage to the headlight glass and lamp plastic. But the bends in the antennas required mechanical forces uniformly applying several pounds of pressure. Other tests for magnetism or radiation produced no anomalous readings.
A Possible Hoax?
By the time Hendry arrived in Warren, local people were urging Johnson to undergo hypnosis and see if he could "recall" what happened during the sighting's missing 40 minutes. Evidently, some were speculating that he may have been abducted by a UFO. Johnson had no interest in the idea, and he also rejected suggestions that he take a polygraph test. As far as he was concerned, neither would accomplish anything besides satisfying other people's "morbid curiosity." His employers and his friends were sticking by him, and all he wanted to do was go on with his life. He turned down all invitations to appear on television, though he would change his mind and consent to a September 11 appearance on ABC television's Good Morning, America with Hendry.

In the absence of any direct evidence that Johnson had hoaxed the incident, Philip J. Klass, a fierce critic of the UFO phenomenon, argued the case by innuendo and buttressed it with sarcasm. In his view there were only two possible explanations: either the episode was a hoax, or "malicious UFOnauts" had hit the headlight, hood, and windshield with a "hammerlike device," gently bent the antennas, then set the clock and watch back 14 minutes. In other words, the alternative explanation - at least as Klass expressed it - was too absurd to be considered; therefore the incident must be a hoax.
Besides, Klass argued, Johnson's refusal to undergo a polygraph examination was suspicious. Debating Hendry at the Smithsonian Institution in September 1980, he claimed that "Deputy Val Johnson... likes to play practical jokes, especially in the late evening when he gets a little bored, as I learned... by talking to some of the people who have worked with him and know him very well."
It is hard to imagine by what definition the infliction of serious damage to a police car qualifies as a "practical joke." In a book published two years later, Klass cited as "evidence" a former co-worker's testimony that Johnson "did like to pull tricks on a guy once in a while... like maybe hide your coffee cup on you." This was the most damning charge Klass succeeded in uncovering, and even here his informant said, "I don't know if you'd call him a 'practical-joker'... As far as we know, he's never told us any untruths."
Similar Cases
Almost exactly two days after the Marshall County close encounter - but hours before the story hit the press - Russ Johnson (not related to Val Johnson) was travelling on Highway 50 on the western outskirts of Vermillion, South Dakota, at 2 a.m., August 29, when he spotted what he took to be a single blinding headlight ahead of him. It was stationary for only two seconds; then it streaked toward him and in two seconds had engulfed his car. He closed his eyes and hit the brakes. His car skidded to a stop, spinning sideways across the road until - like Val Johnson's vehicle - it faced east. Opening his eyes, he watched the light heading towards the west. It angled upward slightly before it disappeared.
When Johnson notified the police immediately afterwards, they, in turn, alerted Prof. Robert Adams of the nearby University of South Dakota. Adams spoke with the witness half an hour after the event. The next day he went to the site with the still-shaken Johnson and saw the skidmarks.
When Val Johnson's story became known, other Warren County residents came forward to detail their own recent UFO sightings. One night in mid-August Jon Linnell and his wife, on their way home from Northwood, North Dakota, to Warren, "saw bright lights over a field to my left," Linnell said:
"The light stayed in the same spot above the trees... 15 seconds later the thing came at us... It scared me. My wife said, 'It's going to hit us.' It came and hovered on top of us so we couldn't see what it was. We couldn't see the outline of it. When I'd almost stopped the car, it took a 180-degree turn and took off north. There were too many lights for a plane and there was no sound. When you tried to see what it was, it hurt your eyes."
Val Johnson said he had received three calls from individuals who stated that they had seen a bright light in the sky the night of his experience. In one instance, a farmer near Oslo (Johnson's hometown, just a few miles south of the encounter site) told him that - in Johnson's words - "a large light hovered over their farm bright enough to turn off his mercury yard light." Also "a bright light swooped down on a truck driver in the middle of the night," and, "one woman said a bright light passed over her farmstead and the electricity and television went out." None of these reports, unfortunately, was investigated.
