Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

Mysterious 'alien beacon' was false alarm
Radio signal seemed to originate from the star Proxima Centauri, and provided a helpful drill for future searches.

A radio signal detected by an Australian telescope in 2019, which seemed to be coming from the star closest to the Sun, was not from aliens, researchers report today in two papers in Nature Astronomy1,2.
“It is human-made radio interference from some technology, probably on the surface of the Earth,” says Sofia Sheikh, an astronomer at the University of California (UC), Berkeley, and a co-author of both papers.
But the disturbance, detected by Breakthrough Listen — an ambitious and privately funded US$100-million effort in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) — looked intriguing enough at first that it sent astronomers on a nearly yearlong quest to understand its origins. It was the first time that data from Breakthrough Listen triggered a detailed search, and the experience puts scientists in a better position to study future candidate detections.
“It’s really valuable for us to have these dry runs,” says Jason Wright, an astronomer at Pennsylvania State University in University Park. “We need these candidate signals so we can learn how we will deal with them — how to prove they are extraterrestrial or human-made.”
Mysterious blips
Since 2016, Breakthrough Listen has used telescopes around the world to listen for possible broadcasts from alien civilizations. The programme has picked up millions of radio blips of unknown origin, nearly all of which could be swiftly classified as coming from radio interference on Earth, from sources such as mobile-phone towers or aircraft radar.
The 2019 signal was different. It was detected by the 64-metre Parkes Murriyang radio telescope in southeastern Australia and came from the direction of Proxima Centauri — the nearest star to the Sun, just 1.3 parsecs (4.2 light years) away. Proxima Centauri is of intense interest to SETI researchers, not just because it is nearby. The star has at least two planets, one of which orbits at the right distance for liquid water to be present on its surface — a prerequisite for life as it exists on Earth3. A sibling initiative to Breakthrough Listen, known as Breakthrough Starshot, aims to send a tiny spacecraft to this planet in the future to look for life there.
The mysterious signal was first spotted last year by Shane Smith, an undergraduate student at Hillsdale College in Michigan, who was working as a research intern with Breakthrough Listen. Smith was combing through data that Parkes collected over six days in April and May the previous year. The telescope had been making observations in the direction of Proxima Centauri for 26 hours. It was not hunting specifically for aliens at the time, but was instead monitoring flares on the star’s surface, which could hurt the chances for life to arise on nearby planets.
The data included more than 4 million signals from the vicinity of the star, but Smith noted one signal near 982 megahertz that seemed to originate from the star itself and lasted about 5 hours. "I was excited to find a signal that matched all the criteria I was looking for, but I immediately remained skeptical of it and thought there had to be some simple explanation," Smith says. "I did not ever think the signal would cause such excitement."
Smith shared the information with his supervisor Danny Price, who posted it on a Breakthrough Listen Slack channel, and the team started investigating in earnest. “My first thought was that it must be interference, which I guess is a healthy attitude, to be sceptical,” says Price, an astronomer at UC Berkeley and the Breakthrough Listen project scientist in Australia. “But after a while I started thinking, this is exactly the kind of signal we’re looking for.”
The signal, named BLC1 for “Breakthrough Listen candidate 1”, was the first to pass all of the programme’s initial screening tests to rule out obvious sources of interference. “It definitely had me wondering ‘what if?’ for a bit,” says Sheikh.
She, Price and a large group of colleagues began working through possible explanations, from uncatalogued satellites to transmissions from planetary spacecraft. In Australia, the radio-frequency band around 982 megahertz is primarily reserved for aircraft, but the scientists could not identify any aeroplanes that had been in the area and could account for the signal — and certainly not one lasting 5 hours.
In November 2020, and in January and April of this year, the researchers pointed the Parkes telescope at Proxima Centauri to see if they could pick up the signal again. They could not.
Eventually, the team spotted other signals in the original data that looked a lot like the 982-megahertz signal but were at different frequencies. These signals had been tossed out by the team’s automated analysis as being earthly interference. Further analysis showed that BLC1 and these ‘lookalike’ signals were all interference from an unknown source. The signals had modulated and muddied one another, much as a guitar amplifier modulates and distorts a guitar note, which is what made it so difficult to identify BLC1 as interference.
Earthly origins
Because the signal didn’t re-appear in the 2020 and 2021 observations, it might have been coming from malfunctioning electronic equipment that got shut down or fixed, says Sheikh. The team suspects the equipment was relatively close to Parkes, perhaps within a few hundred kilometres. The frequency of the signal drifts in a way that is consistent with inexpensive crystal oscillators such as those commonly used in computers, phones and radios, says Dan Werthimer, a SETI astronomer at UC Berkeley who specializes in signal processing.
Working with another student, Sheikh is now using machine-learning algorithms to tease out what frequency the interfering equipment was transmitting at, which might help to track down its source. One lingering mystery is why the signal seemed to appear only when the telescope was pointed at Proxima Centauri. That might just be an unfortunate coincidence, if the cadence of the interference mimicked the cadence with which the telescope was looking at the star.
Radio interference has bedevilled other astronomical searches before, such as when flickering signals picked up at Parkes turned out to be the result of people microwaving their lunches4. The famous ‘Wow!’ signal, detected in 1977 by a radio telescope in Ohio, was a powerful blip so intriguing that the observing scientist scribbled “Wow!” in the margins of the computer printout — but its origin could never be traced.
Alien searches have become much more sophisticated since then, Sheikh notes. “Many groups assumed that if you had a detection that only showed up when you were pointed at the source, that was it, break out the champagne, you’re done,” she says. “As technology changes, the way we vet signals also has to change — and that hadn’t come together until BLC1.” One of the Nature Astronomy papers features a detailed checklist to help astronomers determine whether their signal is truly from aliens or not.
“The Universe gives us a haystack,” says Ravi Kopparapu, a planetary scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. “It is our need to find the needle in it, and make sure that it is actually a needle that we found.”

Het station met de naam ‘Orbital Reef’ zou in de tweede helft van dit decennium in een baan om de aarde moeten draaien. Blue Origin deelde ook een reeks simulaties van hoe het er zal uitzien.
Volgens Blue Origin zal iedereen die ervoor betaalt, naar het ruimtestation kunnen afreizen. Het bedrijf vermeldt onderzoekers, maar ook commerciële klanten. “Doorgewinterde ruimtevaartagentschappen, hightechconsortia, landen zonder ruimtevaartprogramma, media en reisbedrijven, ondernemers en investeerders, ze hebben allemaal een plaats in Orbital Reef”, zo staat in een persbericht van Blue Origin.
Dat omschrijft het ruimtestation als een “businesspark voor gemengd gebruik”. Er is ook sprake van een ‘Single Person Spacecraft’, een ruimtetuigje waarmee toeristen uitstapjes zullen kunnen maken in de ruimte.
Ruimtetoerisme
Blue Origin zet volop in op ruimtetoerisme om daarmee een deel van zijn lanceringen terug te verdienen. De afgelopen tijd ging Bezos zelf al de ruimte in. Ook nam Blue Origin acteur William Shatner, bekend als Captain James T. Kirk uit ‘Star Trek’, mee de ruimte in. Daarmee wil het bedrijf naamsbekendheid verkrijgen en meer rijke mensen trekken die de ruimte in willen.
De bouw van het ruimtestation wordt ook ondersteund door onder meer vliegtuig- en ruimtevaartbedrijf Boeing. Daarnaast is de Amerikaanse universiteit Arizona State University betrokken bij het project.

A new analysis of an ancient Egyptian mummy suggests that sophisticated techniques for preserving the dead may be 1,000 years older than previously believed. The discovery centers on the tomb of a high-ranking Old Kingdom official known asKhuwy, reports Kamal Tabikha for the National.
Archaeologists excavated the mummy at the Saqqara necropolis, south of Cairo, in 2019. Hieroglyphs on the wall of the tomb where the deceased was laid to rest show that the burial took place during the Fifth Dynasty period, which spanned the early 25th to mid-24th century B.C.E. Pottery and jars used to store body parts removed during the man’s mummification also appear to date to the time of the Old Kingdom.
As Dalya Alberge reports for the Observer, researchers previously believed that high-quality linen dressings and resin of the kind employed in Khuwy’s mummification weren’t used until much later.
“Until now, we had thought that Old Kingdom mummification was relatively simple, with basic desiccation—not always successful—no removal of the brain, and only occasional removal of the internal organs,” Salima Ikram, an Egyptologist at the American University in Cairo, tells the Observer. “Indeed, more attention was paid to the exterior appearance of the deceased than the interior.”
Ikram and her colleagues are set to share their initial findings in an upcoming episode of the National Geographic series “Lost Treasures of Egypt.” The team plans to conduct additional tests on the mummy, investigating the possibility that it may not be Khuwy, or that the tomb was repurposed for a different burial much later.
“I remain hesitant until we can conduct carbon-14 dating,” Ikram tells the National.
She adds, “If this is indeed the mummy of Khuwy, this will truly be a unique discovery that dramatically shifts our understanding of the history of the Old Kingdom.”

The tests, which will take six to eight months to complete, will offer a more definitive answer regarding the mummy’s age. If dated to the Old Kingdom, the find would expand scholars’ understanding of Fifth-Dynasty trade networks, suggesting extensive trade with neighboring empires. The resin used to preserve the body would likely have been imported from Lebanon.
Tom Cook of Windfall Films, which is producing the National Geographic series, tells the Observer that Ikram was initially skeptical of the idea that the mummy dated to the Fifth Dynasty.
“[Researchers] didn’t think the mummification process [then] was that advanced,” he says. “So her initial reaction was ‘This is definitely not Old Kingdom.’ But over the course of the investigation, she started to come round.”
The tomb where the mummy was found features remarkable wall paintings rendered in “royal colors”—a choice that suggests Khuwy may have been related to Fifth-Dynasty pharaoh Djedkare Isesi, reported Jessica Stewart for My Modern Met in 2019. The L-shaped tomb’s architecture, particularly a tunneled entrance more typically found in pyramids, further indicates that Khuwy was a person of high status, per Jack Guy of CNN.
The team’s findings will appear in a November 28 episode of “Lost Treasures of Egypt” titled “Rise of the Mummies.”
Studie: “Mummies wellicht duizend jaar ouder dan we denken”
Wetenschappers hebben ontdekt dat mummificatie wellicht ouder is dan tot nu toe werd aangenomen. Dat blijkt na onderzoek van een goed bewaard gebleven lichaam van een edelman genaamd Khuwy.
De oude Egyptenaren gebruikten ongeveer 4.000 jaar geleden al mummificatietechnieken. Dat is maar liefst duizend jaar vroeger dan men tot nu toe dacht. Wetenschappers onderzochten het lichaam van Khuwy, een edelman die in 2019 werd ontdekt in een graf op de necropolis Saqqara. Ze vermoeden dat Khuwy uit het Oude Rijk dateert. Het zou een van de oudste Egyptische mummies zijn die ooit werd ontdekt.
“Als dit inderdaad een mummie uit het Oude Rijk is, moeten alle boeken over de geschiedenis van het Oude Rijk herzien worden”, zegt professor Salima Ikram, hoofd Egyptologie aan de American University in Cairo, aan The Observer.
Bijzondere vondst
Tijdens het mummificatieproces werd het lichaam in natron gedompeld zodat het uitdroogde. De huid werd bedekt met hars, en vervolgens werd het lichaam in met hars bewerkt linnen gewikkeld, waarna het in een sarcofaag werd geplaatst. De organen werden meestal in potten mee begraven met het lichaam.
Tot nu toe werd aangenomen dat mummificatie in het Oude Rijk zeer basaal - en niet altijd succesvol - was. In die vroege periode werden de hersenen nog niet verwijderd, en de overige organen slechts occasioneel. Er ging meer aandacht naar de uiterlijke verschijning van de overledene. Het gebruik van hars was in het Oude Rijk ook veel beperkter.
Opmerkelijk bij Khuwy zijn de verfijning van het mummificatieproces en de gebruikte materialen. Linnen en hars zijn overvloedig aanwezig en van een uitzonderlijk fijne kwaliteit. “Hij geeft een heel andere indruk van mummificatie in het Oude Rijk. Hij lijkt meer op mummies van duizend jaar later”, aldus Ikram.
In de religie van de oude Egyptenaren nam mummificeren een steeds belangrijkere plaats in, omdat zij geloofden dat het lichaam van de dode niet naar het eeuwige leven kon reizen zonder een stoffelijk lichaam dat niet verging.

Mogelijk eerste planeet buiten onze Melkweg ontdekt
Voor het eerst lijkt er een planeet te zijn ontdekt in een heel ander sterrenstelsel, dus buiten onze Melkweg. Helemaal zeker is het nog niet, en het is sowieso bijzonder moeilijk om bevestiging te krijgen, maar de metingen kunnen wetenschappers een nieuwe plek bieden om naar planeten te zoeken.
Ons zonnestelsel telt acht planeten: Mercurius, Venus, de Aarde, Mars, Jupiter, Saturnus, Uranus en Neptunus. Daarnaast hebben wetenschappers inmiddels bijna vijfduizend zogeheten exoplaneten gevonden. Die draaien allemaal rond andere sterren in onze Melkweg. De meesten staan binnen 3.000 lichtjaar afstand (1 lichtjaar is zo’n 9,47 biljoen kilometer) wat voor ruimtebegrippen 'om de hoek’ is.
Om zulke verre planeten te vinden, kijken wetenschappers niet naar de planeten zelf, want die zijn te klein en te ver weg om te zien. In plaats daarvan meten ze het licht en de röntgenstraling die van sterren komen. Als een planeet ‘door het beeld’ vliegt, wordt de straling even iets minder fel. De Amerikaanse ruimtetelescoop Chandra zag dat bij M51-ULS-1. Dat is een dubbelster in het sterrenstelsel Messier 51, dat ook wel het Draaikolkstelsel wordt genoemd. Het staat op ongeveer 28 miljoen lichtjaar van de aarde verwijderd.
Bevestiging binnen 70 jaar
M51-ULS-1 bestaat uit een ster die ongeveer twintig keer zo zwaar is als onze zon, waar een neutronenster of zwart gat omheen draait. De röntgenstraling van de ster werd urenlang geblokkeerd door de vermoedelijke planeet. Op basis daarvan berekenen de onderzoekers dat de planeet ongeveer even groot is als Saturnus, en twee keer zo ver van zijn ster staat als Saturnus van onze zon. Door zijn lange omloopbaan komt de kandidaat-planeet waarschijnlijk pas over zeventig jaar weer voor zijn ster langs. Pas dan is het mogelijk om te bevestigen of het inderdaad om een planeet gaat. Dat maakt de onderzoekers voorzichtig met hun conclusies.
De ontdekking verschijnt maandag in het belangrijke wetenschapsblad Nature Astronomy. De wetenschappers hebben naar in totaal 238 sterren in drie sterrenstelsels gekeken, en daarbij is maar één potentiële planeet aan het licht gekomen. Kans op leven op die planeet is er niet: hij wordt vrijwel zeker aan ondraaglijke straling blootgesteld.

An eyewitness was driving though Lavonia, Georgia last week when he noticed this glowing necklace like object flying across the sky. The object has trouble coming into focus and he is driving so that may explain it...however the reflectiveness of the object also contributed to it not showing more detail. What ever the hell this is...I have to say, such UFOs do exist...however are rare and mostly seen in South America. At one point, the craft changes shape into a human figure...feet, body and lowered head looking down. Thats creepy as hell and seems like it was created intentionally for those on the ground. All I'm saying is...keep an open mind. We don't know 100% what it is yet. But maybe more video footage of this object will come in over the next few weeks.

This glowing football shaped object was seen shooting across the night sky over Detroit last week. The object moved way too slow to be a metoer and its not pulsing like meteors do. Also the majority of scientists say that meteorites burn up long before they hit the Earth...this one is huge...and its unlikely a 747 size meteor would burn up from that low altitude. The object is a UFO. It's moving across the sky, not falling from space. The shape is similar to many other UFO photos and videos...the shape is like a football...or a fat disk. Notice that no debris flies off the glowing object...because it's not a meteor. Only FAA and military radar could really track this object and tell us what direction it went and if it landed somewhere. But they wont cooperate..they see UFOs all the time. It's something they are trained to ignore...at least in the US military. When I focused the close up screenshot...I got a craft thats more flat rectangle in shape with a raised cockpit on its top front area...see photos below. This is 100% proof that it's an alien craft.
This family recorded these different colored lights from a distance all in a straight line hovering, after about 3 minutes, they drop in a very weird way in groups, sorted by color. It looks very weird and i suspect that these are not flairs for that reason, as they are hovering all together for 3 minutes, but then suddenly drop. This happened over Russia on 1st June 2020.
A Babylonian tablet dating back to 1500 B.C.E. inscribed with instructions on how to perform an exorcism may depict one of the oldest images of a ghost in the world, according to a new book by British Museum curator Irving Finkel.
The First Ghosts: Most Ancient of Legacies takes a look at the history of our relationship with the spiritual realm, past the more recent image of clanking chains and sheets to early human cultures where, according to Finkel, ghosts were an accepted part of life. The assistant keeper of ancient Mesopotamian script, languages and cultures in the department of the Middle East at the British Museum was inspired to write the book after reading another history of ghosts that started in the 18th century.
“I suddenly thought, ‘Well, what about our stuff? What about Mesopotamia?'” Finkel recalled to artnet News. It then occurred to the curator that the archives and collections he had access to at the British Museum meant he could conduct research back to the earliest history of ghosts and our relationship with them.
“It twigged with me that actually, Mesopotamia is completely unknown as a resource to people who are interested in how old the story of ghosts is, and how far back we can trace it.” In Mesopotamia, they believed that if someone had died in a horrible way, they might come back and bother the people they knew when they were alive, Finkel said. Ancient people collected sightings of spirits “and documented how to get rid of each one, so we have a whole dossier.”
The fragment of the Babylonian clay tablet in question is inscribed with detailed instructions on how to rid yourself of a specific type of ghost, a bothersome older man. The drawing shows an older thin man tied to another figure, an attractive young woman who was intended to lead him back to the underworld, where they would both remain. The drawing on the tablet is extremely well done, leading Finkel to believe this was the work of a highly accomplished draftsman.
“You had this situation where people tended to be sympathetic towards ghosts unless they’re really foul,” he explained. “When they were, there were specialist magicians or exorcists who knew the right spells and rituals and what you could do to get rid of the ghost, drive it out and send it back to the underworld where it belonged,” Finkel explained.
The First Ghosts includes examples of other objects designed to drive away spirits such as bronze amulets, a ritual involving a human skull, and a chapter titled “The Delicate Art of Necromancy.” Having worked with the ancient world since he was 17, Finkel sees past practices and ideas about the spiritual world echoing through to today, whether it be a psychic offering to speak with dead relatives, or the popularity of supernatural films from Ghostbusters to Paranormal Activity.
“The basic belief system, as far as I can see, is unchanged. So, I’ve come to the conclusion that human beings as a whole species have always believed in ghosts from the very beginning,” Finkel said. “Is it all still going on? Yeah, the funny thing is, it really is.”

Most of those cases were somewhat mundane: fuel-tanks, pieces of engines and so on. There are rumors, though, that Project Moon Dust recovered more than a few crashed UFOs – as in alien spacecraft. I’m skeptical of the claims that Moon Dust recovered any alien ships. There is, however, one story that really stands out. It dates from May 1978. The location: Bolivia. And, I’m about to share it with you. The story is an important one, because I’m quoting from U.S. government files. And those same files are actually very intriguing. So with that said, let’s have a look at the case and what we can learn from it. The first piece of data that surfaced was a U.S. Department of State telegram. Dated May 15, 1978, it was titled “Report of Fallen Space Object.” The Department of State report told a fascinating story: “The Bolivian newspapers carried this morning an article concerning an unidentified object that apparently recently fell from the sky. The paper quotes a “Latin” correspondent’s story from the Argentine city of Salta. The object was discovered near the Bolivian city of Bermejo and was described as egg-shaped, metal and about four meters in diameter. The Bolivian Air Force plans to investigate to determine what the object might be and from where it came. I have expressed our interest and willingness to help. They will advise. Request the department check with appropriate agencies to see if they can shed some light on what this object might be. The general region has had more than its share of reports of UFOs this past week. Requests a reply ASAP.”

Then, on the same day, there were the words of the CIA: “Many people in this part of the country claim they saw an object which resembled a soccer ball falling behind the mountains on the Argentine-Bolivian border, causing an explosion that shook the earth. This took place on May 6. Around that time some people in San Luis and Mendoza provinces reported seeing a flying saucer squadron flying in formation. The news from Salta confirms that the artificial satellite fell on Taire Mountain in Bolivia, where it has already been located by authorities. The same sources said that the area where the artificial satellite fell has been declared an emergency zone by the Bolivian Government.” One day later, May 16, there was a CIA update on the affair titled “Reports Conflict on Details of Fallen Object.” The CIA said:
“We have received another phone call from our audience requesting confirmation of reports that an unidentified object fell on Bolivian territory near the Argentine border. We can only say that the Argentine and Uruguayan radio stations are reporting on this even more frequently, saying that Bolivian authorities have urgently requested assistance from the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration in order to determine the nature of that which crashed on a hill in Bolivian territory. Just a few minutes ago Radio El Espectador of Montevideo announced that there was uncertainty as to the truth of these reports. Argentine sources indicated that they border with Bolivia had been closed but that it might seen be reopened. They also reported that an unidentified object had fallen on Bolivian soil near the Argentine border and that local Bolivian authorities had requested aid from the central government, which, in turn, had sought assistance from the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration to investigate the case.”
There was more to come from the U.S. government: “A La Paz newspaper said today that there is great interest in learning about the nature of the fallen object, adding that local authorities for security reasons had cordoned off 200 km around the spot where the object fell. The object is said to be a mechanical device with a diameter of almost 4 meters which has already been brought to Tarija. There is interest in determining the accuracy of these reports which have spread quickly throughout the continent, particularly in Bolivia and its neighboring countries. Is it a satellite, a meteorite, or a false alarm?” Then, on the 18th of the month, the Department of State reported: “Preliminary information provided has been checked with appropriate government agencies. No direct correlation with known space objects that may have re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere near May 6 can be made; however, we continue to examine any possibilities. Your attention is invited to State Airgram A-6343, July 26, 1973, which provided background information and guidance for dealing with space objects that have been found. In particular any information pertaining to the pre-impact observations, direction of trajectory, number of objects observed, time of impact and a detailed description including any markings would be useful.”
Just about a week later, the Department of State reported: “This office has tried to verify the stories put forth in the local press. The Chief of Staff of the Bolivian Air Force told DATT/AIRA this date that planes from the BAF have flown over the area where the object was supposed to have landed and in their search they drew a blank. Additionally, DATT/AIRA talked this date with the Commander of the Bolivian Army and informed DATT that the Army’s search party directed to go into the area to find the object had found nothing. The Army has concluded that there may or [may] not be an object, but to date nothing has been found.” The mystery was over, aside from one thing: all of the available material was handed over to Project Moon Dust. What happened from there we don’t know. Maybe, one day, someone will launch a new investigation of this admittedly intriguing case of 1978.

Government officials have leaked details about the highly anticipated classified report on ufo sightings expected to be released this month, noting that there is no evidence to support that they are alien spacecraft.
But the report does not rule aliens out either, senior administration officials who were briefed on the report told The New York Times.
The report also theorizes the objects could also be new weapons developed by Russian or China - and definitively says the phenomena are not a part of a secret project from within the United States government.
The report looks at more than 120 incidents of unidentified objects seen by U.S. Navy pilots in the past 20 years.
The UFOs were observed moving in patterns that remain difficult to explain, including their acceleration, ability to change direction and ability to submerge underwater.
Senior officials told the outlet that the objects could be evidence of Chinese or Russian hypersonic technology - which means the countries may have 'far outpaced' the US in weapons development.
Hypersonic weapons are aircraft and missiles that can reach atmospheric speeds faster than Mach 5, or or about 4,000 miles per hour - making them almost impossible to intercept.

Last year, lawmakers added a provision to President Donald Trump's budget demanding that the secretary of defense and director of national intelligence release a report on what the government knows about such UFOs.
Government officials have previously conceded that the sightings are credible, and that the UFOs' origins remains unknown.
An unclassified version of the intelligence report is expected to be released to Congress by June 25, but will include a classified annex that 'will not contain any evidence concluding that the phenomenon are alien spacecraft.'
However, the officials said the government could also 'not definitively rule out' theories that they might be alien spacecraft, The New York Times reported.
In some cases, the report rules out explanations such as weather balloons or other research balloons because of changes in wind speed during the sightings, the officials told the Times.
In the report, intelligence officials examined foreign military powers and believe at least some of the UFOs could be explained as hypersonic Russian or Chinese weaponry - into which both countries have been heavily investing.
Examples of the unexplained sightings 'maneuverable' spherical objects which were seen flying in restricted airspace near Virginia Beach almost every day from 2015 to 2017.
F/A-18 fighter pilot Ryan Graves' F/A-18, whose squadron spotted the objects, has previously said: 'I am worried, frankly. You know, if these were tactical jets from another country that were hanging out up there, it would be a massive issue.'
Officials briefed on the report also described a giant Tic Tac-shaped object about the size of a commercial plane which was encountered by Navy fighter jets off the coast of San Diego in 2004.
Senator Marco Rubio warned last month that UFOs pose a serious threat to national security and can no longer be laughed off by lawmakers.
'Some of my colleagues are very interested in this topic and some kinda, you know, giggle when you bring it up. But I don't think we can allow the stigma to keep us from having an answer to a very fundamental question,' Rubio said.
Rubio said the possibility that drones or aircraft from a rival military power - or from another civilization - were entering U.S. airspace without permission should be getting more attention and resources.

John Ratcliffe, the former director of national intelligence, told Fox News that these are not just eyewitness accounts - they're videos and measurements taken after 'multiple sensors that are picking up these things.'
'When we talk about sightings, we are talking about objects that have been seen by Navy or Air Force pilots, or have been picked up by satellite imagery, that frankly engage in actions that are difficult to explain, movements that are hard to replicate, that we don't have the technology for, or traveling at speeds that exceed the sound barrier without a sonic boom,' he said.
Even former President Barack Obama raised recent interest in UFOs while appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden last month.
'What is true, and I'm actually being serious here, is that there is footage and records of objects in the skies that we don't know exactly what they are,' Obama said.

Reid, 81, also detailed in his article for The New York Times how the former Senate Majority Leader became 'increasingly interested in UFOs' and said he has 'no problem' if aliens exist.
In December, Sen. Marco Rubio - then-acting head of the Senate Intelligence Committee - called for Pentagon reports into the unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) to be declassified. The Pentagon's Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force has until June to report its findings to Congress.
'I believe that there is information uncovered by the government's covert investigations into unidentified aerial phenomena that can be disclosed to the public without harming our national security,' Reid wrote for The New York Times.
'The American people deserve to know more — and hopefully they will soon, with the release of a comprehensive government report requested by the Senate Intelligence Committee on the military's encounters with UFOs.'
He added: 'Let me be clear: I have never intended to prove that life beyond Earth exists. But if science proves that it does, I have no problem with that. Because the more I learn, the more I realize that there's still so much I don't know.'
In the article, Reid described first becoming interested in unidentified aerial phenomena, what most people refer to as UFOs, in 1996 after being invited to a conference on topic by an investigative reporter for KLAS-TV.
He said his interest in UFOs grew through conversations with former astronaut John Glenn, a fellow senator, but his staff warned him 'stay the hell away' from the topic publicly.
'I politely ignored them. I was inquisitive and, like Senator Glenn, I thought it was an issue that demanded attention, and I was in a position to act,' he said.
Reid, while serving as Senate Majority Leader in 2007, worked to secure $22 million in funding for the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program.
'This clandestine Pentagon operation investigated reports of UFOs and other related phenomena, including UFO encounters involving American military personnel,' he wrote.
Reid noted that program no longer exists but the government continues to study UFOs through the Pentagon's Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon Task Force.
He said that, as a senator, he visited Area 51 and saw classified information that fascinated him.
The top-secret Air Force testing site in southern Nevada has long associated with UFOs and related 'conspiracy theories' in popular culture. Reid noted that its existence wasn't publicly acknowledged by the U.S. Government until 2013.
'What I saw fascinated me, though much of it must remain classified. During one visit I traveled a short distance to the facility that housed the Air Force's secret new stealth fighters,' Reid wrote.
Reid explained that 'there's still a great deal we don't understand' but UFOs and it remains unclear how to explain some of these 'strange sightings' scientifically.

One of the images appears to be a pyramid-shaped object while others were thought to be drones or balloons; however, the Navy has listed them as unknowns.
In a statement, a Pentagon spokesperson told Mystery Wire: 'I can confirm that the referenced photos and videos were taken by Navy personnel. The UAPTF has included these incidents in their ongoing examinations.'
The confirmation came a week after Admiral Michael Gilday, the chief of naval operations, admitted that he has no idea where the swarm of mysterious Tic Tac-shaped drones that menaced four US destroyers in July 2019 originated.
Gilday led an investigation into the incident in which a group of what some have called unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) chased the destroyers for up to 100 nautical miles off the coast of California.

Luis Elizondo, a former official with the Defense Department, told 60 Minutes that the UAPs appear to have 'far superior' technology to anything the United States currently has in its known inventory.
'Imagine a technology that can do 600 to 700 G-forces, that can fly 13,000 miles an hour, that, that can evade radar and can fly through air and water and possibly space,' Elizondo said.
'And oh, by the way, has no obvious signs of propulsion, no wings, no control surfaces and yet still can defy the natural effects of Earth's gravity. That's precisely what we're seeing.'

The USS Nimitz, a US Navy aircraft carrier, was at the center of a bizarre UFO sighting saga in 2004.
The clip became one of the most-touted pieces of evidence in the UFO community when the Pentagon confirmed its authenticity in 2017.
In January, Chad Underwood, the former Navy aviator who shot the famous leaked video clip, broke his silence in an interview with New York Magazine.
He said the oblong, wingless 'Tic Tac' shaped object was spotted off the coast of Mexico over the Pacific.
He also revealed that for about two weeks, the Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Princeton, part of Carrier Strike Group 11, had been tracking mysterious aircraft intermittently on an advanced AN/SPY-1B passive radar.
The radar contacts were so inexplicable that the system was even shut down and restarted to to check for bugs - but operators continued to track the unknown aircraft.
Then on November 14, Commander David Fravor says he was flying in an F/A-18F Super Hornet when he made visual contact with the object, which seemed to dive below the water, resurface, and speed out of sight when he tried to approach it.
As Fravor landed on the deck of the Nimitz, Underwood was just gearing up to take off on his own training run.
Fravor told Underwood about the bizarre encounter, and urged Underwood to keep his eyes open.
He recalls how he suddenly saw a blip on his radar before tracking it on his FLIR camera.
'The thing that stood out to me the most was how erratic it was behaving,' Underwood told the magazine.
'And what I mean by 'erratic' is that its changes in altitude, air speed, and aspect were just unlike things that I've ever encountered before flying against other air targets.'
Underwood said the object wasn't obeying the laws of physics and dropped from 50,000 feet altitude to 100 feet in seconds, which he says, 'isn't possible'. He added that he saw no signs of an engine heat plume or any sign of propulsion.
The pilot refuses to speculate as to whether the object is an alien spacecraft or not, however.
'That's not my job. But I saw something. And it was also seen, via eyeballs, by both my commanding officer, Dave Fravor, and the Marine Corps Hornet squadron commanding officer who was out there as well.'

The new test is believed to have taken place on August 13 and involved a similar 'hypersonic glide vehicle' to one launched into space on board a Long March rocket back in July, which was first reported earlier this week.
Beijing has acknowledged one of the tests, claiming it launched a 'peaceful' civilian spacecraft. But analysts believe the craft can actually be tipped with a nuclear warhead which would be able to evade missile defences.
Even government scientists are struggling to work out exactly what the new craft is capable of, with one source telling the Financial Times that it appears to 'defy the laws of physics' and is unlike any technology the US has.

What is the new 'weapon' that China has tested?
Intelligence sources say Beijing has tested two nuclear-capable hypersonic vehicles that flew around the planet in low-Earth orbit before coming back down.
If confirmed - Beijing denies it, saying it actually tested a civilian spacecraft - then it marks a major jump in the country's nuclear programme, though the concept itself is nothing new.
The idea behind China's 'new' weapon actually came from the Soviets, who developed it during the Cold War.
Called a Fractional Orbital Bombardment System, or FOBS, it was designed to evade powerful US radar arrays and missile defence systems.
Those systems work by detecting launches of ICBMs - very long-range missiles that can be tipped with nuclear warheads - tracking them into space and then firing at the warheads as they come down in the hope of blowing them up before they hit their targets.
This is possible because ICBMs and their warheads follow a predictable trajectory that rises high above the horizon - making them relatively easy to spot and allowing defence crews to calculate where they are aimed so they can be shot out of the sky.
FOBS is designed to negate these defences by firing warheads along a much-flatter trajectory that is assisted by Earth's gravity.
This means the warheads pass under the scope of many radar detection arrays and are harder to track. It also makes the warheads much harder to shoot down because their trajectory is harder to calculate.
In addition, using orbit to carry the warheads makes their range potentially unlimited, meaning they can be fired at its target from any direction.
This helps to avoid radar systems which are generally pointed at a fixed spot in the sky - in America's case, over the North Pole.
Soviet Russia had a FOBS system - comprising, at its peak, of 18 R-36O missiles - which were active from 1969 until 1983 when it scuttled the programme in response to changes in America's missile defence systems.
China now appears to be pursuing the technology anew, while coupling it with a new 'hypersonic glide vehicle' to carry the warheads.
The 'HGV' is thought to make the warhead easier to manouevre while in orbit and increase its accuracy. Despite its 'hypersonic' name, it actually travels much slower than ICMB warheads - some 3,800mph compared to 15,000mph+ for 'traditional' nukes.
Russia and the US are both developing HGVs of their own, though neither has put them to use in the same way as Beijing.
Moscow has one that can be fitted to its latest Satan 2 ICBM, while the US is working on one that can be launched from a B-52 bomber - though two recent tests of the system have failed.
The first test was disclosed earlier this week, when the FT quoted five intelligence sources who said that China had tested what appeared to be an orbital hypersonic nuclear missile some time in early or mid-August.
Beijing subsequently acknowledged the test, but said it had taken place on July 16. Intelligence sources now believe the test which the FT initially reported and the test acknowledged by the Chinese are different.
The newspaper now reports that the first test took place on July 27, before a second test of the same technology a little over two weeks later, on August 13.
Observers say the weapon appears to be an update of Cold War-era Soviet technology called a 'Fractional Orbital Bombardment System' - or FOBS.
Soviets developed the technology to get around powerful US radar arrays designed to detect the launch of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) tipped with nukes, and defence systems designed to shoot them down.
FOBS works by putting the nuclear warheads into a low-Earth orbit, allowing them to circle the globe and manoeuvre in flight before coming down on their targets.
This makes the warheads harder to detect, track and destroy than those carried on board ICBMs.
China appears to have updated the concept by fitting the nuclear warhead on to a 'hypersonic glide vehicle', which is designed to travel faster and manoeuvre easier - making it even harder to stop.
After the second test was disclosed, Hu Xijin - the editor of the state-owned Global Times newspaper - said the US needs to be 'rational' and accept the idea of 'mutually assured destruction'.
'The US must abandon the crazy idea that it can strike China and Russia, but they can’t strike it,' Hu tweeted.
However, he stopped short of confirming the test had taken place - describing it as 'speculation'.
A follow-up editorial in the Global Times also stopped short of confirming the test, but said - if true - the development of hypersonic missiles would 'help contain the US strategic arrogance over China and further exclude the possibility that the US blackmails China with nuclear weapons.'
The paper claims that US policy has been to develop nuclear weapons that will allow it to strike other nations while they cannot strike it - but calls this 'an unattainable mad idea' and says Washington must accept a reality in which all superpowers can strike one-another, describing it as a 'balance of nuclear terror'.
'Absolute security does not exist in today's world,' the editorial concludes.
The Chinese foreign ministry has yet to make a statement on the latest test claims.
Several countries, including the US and Russia, are developing their own hypersonic glide vehicles - though neither of them have put them to the same use as China.
China has shown off hypersonic glide vehicles before, including one mounted to the nose of the DF-17 nuke which featured prominently in military parade in 2019.
Analysts believe something similar was launched into space on board a rocket during its two recent hypersonic tests, and then released into low Earth orbit - circling the planet before being brought back down and aimed at a target.
It is thought the craft missed by some 24 miles, but the test still stunned analysts who believed China was far off being able to launch such technology.
Beijing did not report the test or its results at the time, but after it was disclosed earlier this week the country's state media mocked America by saying it is a 'new blow to the US's mentality of strategic superiority over China'.
An op-ed in the Chinese state media outlet Global Times, Beijing's mouthpiece, said the test means 'there is a key new member in China's nuclear deterrence system', adding that this is a 'new blow to the US's mentality of strategic superiority over China'.
It is just the latest move in a global arms race between Russia, China and the US which is taking place against the backdrop of mounting tensions between the superpowers in the eastern Pacific.
All three countries are engaged in wholesale updates of their militaries including the development of new nuclear technology with which they can strike each-other at range.
Russia and China have, in recent years, unveiled new and more-powerful ICBMs which are capable of launching multiple nuclear warheads at targets many thousands of miles away.
The United States, Russia and at least five other countries are also working on hypersonic technology, and last month North Korea said it had test-fired a newly-developed hypersonic missile.
Russia has previously tested a hypersonic cruise missile known as Zircon, but it flies below the atmosphere and uses fuel to power itself to hypersonic speeds rather than the Earth's orbit.
The Pentagon did not comment on China's testing of the hypersonic missile, but did acknowledge China as their 'number one pacing challenge'.
'We have made clear our concerns about the military capabilities China continues to pursue, capabilities that only increase tensions in the region and beyond,' John Kirby, a Pentagon spokesperson, told Fox News. 'That is one reason why we hold China as our number one pacing challenge.'
An op-ed in Beijing's state media outlet Global Times said: 'If the FT report is to be believed, it means that there is a key new member in China's nuclear deterrence system, which is a new blow to the US' mentality of strategic superiority over China.
'It is important to note the unstoppable trend that China is narrowing the gap with the US in some key military technologies as China is continuously developing its economic and technological strength.'

'China doesn't need to engage in an 'arms race' with the US – it is capable of weakening the US' overall advantages over China by developing military power at its own pace,' the editorial added.
It is just the latest episode of nuclear sabre-rattling to come out of Beijing, after a senior Chinese diplomat suggested that Beijing should abandon its long-standing policy of not using nuclear weapons first in conflict.
Sha Zukang, the country's former ambassador to the UN, told a summit of Chinese nuclear policy experts that it is time to 're- examine and fine-tune' a long-standing commitment to only use nukes in retaliation as the US 'builds new military alliances and as it increases its military presence in our neighbourhood.'
Beijing's current policy - which has been in place since the 1960s - has given China the 'moral high ground' but 'is not suitable . . . unless China-US negotiations agree that neither side would use [nuclear weapons] first,' he said at a meeting in Beijing last week
Zukang's comments - which come as China builds hundreds of new nuclear missile silos - are significant because Beijing often floats changes of policy through senior diplomats. The body he was speaking to - the China Arms Control and Disarmament Association - is officially independent, but has strong ties to the Communist party.
China became a nuclear power in 1964 with its first successful test of a bomb, and adopted its 'no-first-use' policy four years later. It states that Beijing will never be the first to use nukes in a conflict, but will use them if struck first.
It mirrors a policy that Russia implemented between 1982 and 1993, though abandoned due to fears that the weakened state of its army following the break-up of the Soviet Union could encourage an attack by the US.
The US has a policy to never use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against a majority of other nations including all those without nuclear weapons - but has exempted China, Russia and North Korea from the policy.
Global nuclear policy is rapidly changing as a number of Cold War-era treaties - notably New START and the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty - expire, with Washington hoping to renegotiate them to include China.
Zukang, in his speech, said it is 'only a matter of time' before such a deal is negotiated, but that Beijing should be prepared to take a more-aggressive stance until the trio put pen to paper.
China is in the midst of a major upgrade of its nuclear forces, which in recent years has seen it unveil more-advanced intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and hypersonic nuclear missiles that are thought to be un-stoppable by current missile defence systems.
Beijing is thought to possess around 320 nuclear warheads that can be fitted to those missiles at present, but is also thought to be in the midst of a major expansion of that arsenal.

It comes after the discovery in July of two huge new missile silo bases under construction in remote desert regions of China.
Experts believe the first, near the city of Yumen, will eventually house 120 silos while the second, near the town of Hami, will house 110. A dozen more are under construction near Jilantai, with older sites also being upgraded.
Each silo can house a nuclear missile, with each missile capable of carrying up to 12 nuclear warheads if China upgrades all of them to carry its latest DF-41 rocket.
That means China's nuclear arsenal could theoretically expand to 875 warheads. Hu Xijin, editor of the state-mouthpiece Global Times newspaper, has previously argued that it should expand to 1,000.
The move would elevate China above the low-ranking nuclear powers such as the UK, Pakistan, France and India which have stockpiled warheads in the low hundreds.
But it would still be well short of the US and Russia, the world's two largest nuclear powers, which possess arsenals of around 4,000 warheads each.
The construction of hundreds of silos also marks a major shift in the make-up of China's nuclear threat, which currently relies heavily on mobile road-based launchpads and nuclear-capable bombers. China also has four nuclear-armed submarines.
China is expanding its military as its economy balloons to rival that of the US, having lagged behind for decades.
In addition to building new nuclear missiles and silos, it has constructed new aircraft carriers, tanks, fighter jets, spy and attack drones, along with new rifles for its troops.
Beijing has used the new hardware to take a more aggressive stance in the Pacific: Imposing its rule on Hong Kong, menacing Taiwan, and laying claim to a number of uninhabited islands in the South China Sea which it has constructed military bases on top of.
It has also been pressing its claim to a number of other islands whose ownership is disputed, creating tensions with other regional powers such the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and others. Similar disputes are underway in the East China Sea, around islands claimed by Japan.
China claims rights over the South China Sea in its entirety, which would hand Beijing control over hugely valuable international shipping lanes, fishing grounds which neighbouring countries rely on for food, and deposits of coal and oil which dot the seabed.
The US and its allies have been pushing back on these claims, and frequently conduct what they call 'freedom of navigation' operations through waters that China claims as its own in defiance of Beijing.
“The simplest way to imagine this new weapon system is to imagine the space shuttle, put a nuclear weapon in the cargo bay and then don’t bother with the landing gear. (It’s launched) and it glides back to Earth just like the space shuttle, except for when it gets where it’s going, it goes boom.”
Just a few days ago, the Financial Times revealed that China launched a hypersonic missile test in late August that allegedly circled the globe in low-Earth orbit before coming close to its intended target. China immediately denied it, saying it “was not a missile, it was a space vehicle.” Before the cable news shows could get riled up about what Jeffrey Lewis, a professor at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, described as an armed space shuttle, the Financial Timesdropped another bombshell about this hypersonic bomb carrier – there was a second prior test in July.
The spaceplane is a glider so no exhaust.
“On July 27 the Chinese military launched a rocket that used a “fractional orbital bombardment” system to propel a nuclear-capable “hypersonic glide vehicle” around the earth for the first time, according to four people familiar with US intelligence assessments.”
Should we be concerned that China has twice tested a “fractional orbital bombardment” “hypersonic glide vehicle”? An unnamed person told The Financial Times that the first test stunned the Pentagon and US intelligence, while another said the two demonstrated a new weapons capability which the US does not currently possess – one that appears “to defy the laws of physics.”
While the rest of the media is addressing this news as an indication of an “arms race,” let’s look at the potential of this “hypersonic glide vehicle” to be seen by unsuspecting witnesses worldwide as a UFO. Since it’s a glider, there’s no exhaust to be seen. It appears this is a one-orbit vehicle so one would have to be looking at the right spot to see it. There’s nothing so far on its gliding altitude, but it’s obviously high enough to not create a sonic boom as it passes over at five times the speed of sound – unless it is descending towards its target. Despite being a glider, it appears it can be controlled and it can change direction at that high speed. While that’s not as impressive as the maneuvers made by the ‘Tic Tac’ UAPs seen by U.S. military pilots, it could be what one source said was a sign of defying laws of physics. Finally, don’t forget that the U.S. Air Force has its own secret spacecraft – the X-37B space plane that has been in orbit for over 500 days multiple times. Even with the secrecy surrounding it, it has been spotted by amateur astronomers.
It looks like the chances of mistaking China’s “fractional orbital bombardment” “hypersonic glide vehicle” or whatever it is for a UFO are slim. As for it really is? Good luck getting a straight answer on that.
One of the most important revelations in the Rendlesham Forest “UFO landing” of December 1980 concerns the locations of where the monumental events happened. I’m actually not talking about Rendlesham Forest. Rather, I’m talking about the surrounding locales and their mysterious histories. And why do I consider it my duty to bring your attention to those same surroundings? I’ll tell you: it’s vital to note that for decades the entire area around those famous woods acted as a powerful magnet for classified government programs, sensitive military operations, and top secret projects. They were all of a highly important – but down to earth and domestic – nature. On January 28, 1935,the Tizard Committee, establishedunder the directorship of Sir Henry Tizard, convened its first meeting. It ultimately led to the top secret development of a workable radar system of the type that was employed in the Second World War. In an article titled “The Tizard Mission and the Development of the Atomic Bomb,” David Zimmerman says:
“In August 1940 Sir Henry Tizard led a group of British scientists and technical experts to North America. Over the next four months, the members of the Tizard or British Technical Mission undertook one of the greatest transfers of technical and scientific information in history. In over 150 meetings with American military, technical, and scientific experts the mission provided almost all of Great Britain’s military technical secrets to the United States. The United States reciprocated in kind.” Much of that highly classified research was conducted at Bawdsey Manor on the Deben Estuary. It’s just north of the town of Felixstowe, and a mere stone’s throw from what were, for so many years, the military bases of Royal Air Force Bentwaters and Royal Air Force Woodbridge.

To understand the wider scope of this part of the story, we must address one of the strangest – and one of the most enduring – stories from the Second World War. Arguably, it has become a legend; a most grim and grisly one, too. It concerns a small village in Suffolk called Shingle Street. It is located in between the aforementioned Bawdsey and Orford. As the Guardian newspaper says: “Shingle Street itself has been the subject of fevered speculation ever since it was evacuated in 1940. Conspiracies include rumors of a German landing and a shoreline littered with burning bodies, schemes to protect the coastline with an impenetrable barrage of flames and the testing of experimental chemical bombs. Four dead German airmen were certainly washed up on the beach, and weapons testing did result in the Lifeboat Inn being blown up. As for the rest, the conspiracy theories rumble on.”
The BBC, too, has addressed the matter of what did, or what didn’t, happen at Shingle Street all those decades ago: “A World War II mystery over a ‘failed Nazi invasion’ at a remote beach in Suffolk may have been manufactured by Britain’s head of propaganda, a BBC documentary suggests. The BBC East Inside Out team investigated the events of 1940 at Shingle Street. The program suggested that Sefton Delmer, a former Daily Express journalist who – during the Second World War – organized Britain’s ‘black’ propaganda unit, could have spread rumors of a failed Nazi invasion to boost morale. The rumors may have even been used to cover up the loss of lives on a British naval destroyer. Since 1940 there have been continuing rumors of a sea on fire and a failed invasion attempt at Shingle Street, near Woodbridge, Suffolk [italics mine]. Mike Paintin said that his father, a soldier during World War II, told how he was called out to pick up dead bodies from Shingle Street. ‘My father and the rest of his colleagues were called out to pull bodies from the sea,’ he said. ‘‘The common link was that they were all in German uniforms and were all badly burned.'”

Then, just a few years later – specifically in 1943 – much of Rendlesham Forest was cleared to allow for the construction of the highly strategic RAF Woodbridge. The forest suffered even more devastation on October 15-16, 1987. That was when a huge amount of damage was caused to the woods: they, and significant other parts of the U.K., were hit by the almost unfathomable power of a massive, destructive cyclone. I was working and living in Harlow, Essex, England at the time, as a van-driver, and got to see the terrible destruction up close. It took years for the forest to recover. We’ll now take a look at a place called Orford Ness and what went happened there in the 1950s. The U.K.’s National Trust state: “The 1950s saw the construction of specialized facilities to exploit new post-war technologies such as nuclear power. AWRE [Atomic Weapons Research Establishment] Orford Ness was one of only a few sites in the U.K., and indeed the world, where purpose-built facilities were created for testing the components of nuclear weapons. At the height of the Cold War AWRE and the Royal Aircraft Establishment used Orford Ness for developmental work on the atomic bomb.”
Moving onto the 1960s, there is the following from the Trust: “In 1968 work started on the top secret Anglo-American System 441A ‘over-the-horizon’ (OTH) backscatter radar project, finally code-named ‘Cobra Mist.’ The Anglo-American project, whose main contractor was the Radio Corporation of America, was set up to carry out several ‘missions.’ including detection and tracking of aircraft, detection of missile and satellite vehicle launchings, fulfilling intelligence requirements and providing a research and development test-bed…” All of this makes me think: if so many secret experiments were undertaken near Rendlesham Forest, then why shouldn’t the famous “UFO landing” of 1980 have been a classified project, too?

De Nasa zegt vrijdag dat het in februari de Artemis 1-ruimtevlucht wil lanceren. Het is de eerste missie van het Amerikaanse programma om terug te keren naar de maan.
De cruciale missie was aanvankelijk voor het einde van het jaar gepland. Met de missie gaat het Artemis-programma echt van start. De Verenigde Staten willen daarmee weer met mensen naar de maan, onder wie de eerste vrouw.
Op de eerste testvlucht zal er geen astronaut aan boord zijn. De nieuwe gigantische raket van de Nasa, SLS genoemd, moet de Orion-capsule naar de maan stuwen, vooraleer die terugkeert naar de aarde.
“Het venster voor de lancering opent zich op 12 februari, de laatste kans in februari is de 27ste”, zei Mike Sarafin, de verantwoordelijke voor de missie, op een persconferentie. In geval van nood, bijvoorbeeld als de raket niet op tijd klaar is, zijn er nog mogelijkheden in maart en april.
