For whatever reasons, some places seem to draw to them more UFO activity than others. These places log in more sightings than other places, often by a fair margin, and it is not easy to ascertain just exactly why that should be. One place that is perhaps little known to the outside world as a UFO hotspot is the wilds of South Australia, consisting of largely of sparsely inhabited arid and semi-arid rangelands, with several low mountain ranges. It is a wild, remote place in many areas, and it is here where the dark rural roads that meander through the outback have long been seemingly plagued by UFOs.

Our earliest report here comes from the files of UFO Research South Australia (UFORSA), in the year 1955, near the town of Tintinara. On April 22 of that year, a young, unnamed man was driving along a dusty rural road at around 7:45 a.m. when he was startled to see something hover across the road in front of him. He would describe it as a “three metre diameter silvery sphere, surrounded by a flange,” with a total diameter of around 10 meters. According to the witness there were no external portholes or markings, the entire thing completely smooth and metallic. The object crossed over the road, hovering about 1 meter above it, after which it circled around and crossed behind the vehicle before taking a parallel course beside it, matching the speed of the astonished man’s car. The mysterious object reportedly followed him for about 25 kilometers before it either lost interest or found something better to do, launching straight up into the sky at phenomenal speeds.

Continuing into the 50s, according to a report in the Adelaide “Advertiser, on March 13, 1959, two men were in a truck near a place called Purnong Landing when they crested a hill and were astounded to see a “dome illuminated by colored lights,” measuring around 10 meters in diameter. They were so in awe of the object that they stopped the truck to watch it. The object eerily hung there in one place, flashing through a pattern of alternating hypnotic sequences of different colored lights, before it without warning went completely dark. The men approached out of curiosity, the thing now just a black, indefinable shape, but it then sped off silently without illuminating again. In that same month, on March 31, witness Barry Neale was driving near Port Elliott when he passed a strange object resting about 100 meters off the road, which he described as 2 meters wide and looking like a “a glowing reddish orange object with a row of portholes.” Neale drove off onto a dirt side road through the trees to try and get closer, but the object then took off at an incredibly high speed.

Moving into the 1960s, there are several notable reports. On May 19, 1963, a 17-year-old local mechanic was driving home near Mount Gambier and noticed a strange metallic object travelling along near the road. As he approached it, the object allegedly flashed him with a blinding light before hovering directly above his vehicle. At this point he could see that it was oval-shaped, about 6 meters long, and with an array of lights as bright as “the arc lights in electric welding.” It apparently followed him for several miles before drifting off into the distance. The very next day there was another report from the same general vicinity, this time given by a witness who says he was followed for 3 miles along a desolate stretch of barren road by a mysterious silent object that was “bright red/white and shaped like a bull-dozer.” The object apparently only flew off when another car appeared coming the opposite direction. The following month, on July 28, 1963, a witness was near a place called Sandy Creek, making his way towards the town of Gawler when he was forced to slam his brakes when he almost collided with a “blood-red colored object extending across the roadway” as he rounded a bend. The object had a concave top and a flat base, the whole of it bathed in that eerie red glow. It then ascended, the color of its light changing to yellow as it did, then turned on its side and flew off, streaming a trail of vapor behind it.

In July of 1967, a witness was driving near Murray Bridge on his way to Karoonda through thick fog when his radio began to go haywire, distorting and morphing until it became an ear-piercing, high pitched whine, causing him to turn it off. Shortly after this, his engine died for no apparent reason and a warning light came on telling him his key was not in the ignition, even though it was. As the car rolled to a stop he noticed a patch of fog suddenly clear to reveal a “large dark shadow” about 120 feet wide and with a greyish-blue glow above it hovering 20 feet above the road. As he looked on in amazement, the hole in the fog suddenly closed again, making it appear as if the enigmatic object had just vanished into thin air. As soon as it was gone, his car jumped back to life and the radio worked normally.

In the 1970s we have first a report of a Mr. Boyce, who on August 8, 1971 was on his way from the town of Wallaroo to Kadina when he was bathed in an orange glow as his car died. He guided the powerless car to the side of the road and got out of the vehicle to see “an oval shape with three to four windows” hovering almost directly over his car and emitting a low buzzing noise. It allegedly hovered there motionless and silent for around 3 minutes before moving off out of sight, his car coming back on when it did.

In February of 1972, a witness named Hunt was driving outside the town of Kimba with a passenger called Finkler, when Hunt saw a “red and orange rectangle of light” hovering nearby about 3 feet over the ground. In this case he could allegedly see the occupant of the craft within the light, which appeared to be a 6-foot-tall humanoid decked out in “a white space suit with a mask over the head and face.” Hunt woke his passenger, who had been sleeping, who also saw it, and they reported it to police. Authorities would then find out that two other independent witnesses had reported seeing the orange light in the same location within a 15-minute period, although no one else reported the alien figure. In February of 1974 there was another sighting of a humanoid being in conjunction with a UFO in the same area, when four people in three separate vehicles saw an orange lighted rectangular object sitting in a clearing off the road. There was also allegedly seen a “two-meter-tall ‘man’ in a white space-suit” hovering within the rectangular light like an insect in amber.

In the 1980s we have the strange case of two young men only known as “Messrs P.” and “J”, who were driving outside of Port Lincoln when they saw an odd bright light in the sky. After that they apparently drove into a “white endless space,” after which they woke up in their car on the dark road several hours later with no memory of what had happened after entering that white landscape. Under hypnosis they would recall fragments of walking into a big room and a tall, humanoid figure, but nothing else could be dredged up from their subconscious. Perhaps the most famous case of all occurred on January 20 of 1988, in the barren badlands of the remote Nullarbor Plain. In the early morning hours, the Knowles family was travelling from Perth to Melbourne when they were aggressively chased by a glowing object “like a big ball” that would reportedly terrorize them for the next 90 minutes. At one point, the object landed right on top of their car to spew smoke into their windows before picking the vehicle clear up into the air. They then felt the car shake violently and noticed that their screams of terror were distorted and slowed down as if they were in some sort of time warp, after which they were dropped so hard back onto the road that one of their tires burst. They ended up running into some brush to hide until the marauding UFO went away. Police would later examine the car to find it scratched and dented, but no radiation or any other evidence of the bizarre encounter could be found.

These are just some of the many other UFO reports from the remote and desolate roads that meander through South Australia, and indeed the region in general has gathered about itself a reputation as a UFO mecca. Why should this be? What is it about this place that should attract so many such stories? Is it something about the land itself? There have been theories that this place lies upon some sort of earth energy line, or that it possesses certain geographical features that may attract such strange forces, so could that be it? Why are they so keen to patrol the roadways here and terrorize vehicles? No one really knows, and South Australia remains a pretty active and strange UFO hotspot, where it might be best to keep your eyes to the sky the next time you are driving through.

Earthquakes have a very flexible time period that they can last, such as a few seconds, several minutes, days, weeks, or months. But based on new analysis of an ancient coral, the longest lasting earthquake in Earth’s history dragged on for a whopping 32 years.

Researchers in Singapore (specifically at the Nanyang Technological University) were able to confirm the 32-year-long earthquake by studying odd and ancient coral structures called “microatolls” off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Microatolls grow at a very slow rate which provides experts with important information regarding changes in land elevation and sea levels throughout history.

The experts determined that between the years 1738 and 1829, the baseline readings were normal based on the fact that the microatolls were sinking between 1 and 2 millimeters each year. However, they noticed a significant change around the year 1829 when they began sinking at an astonishing rate of 10 millimeters annually. They continued sinking at the faster rate until around the year 1861.

With the rapid sinking of the microatolls, which is connected to the movement of tectonic plates, this revealed that there was a slow earthquake that lasted 32 years – the longest in all of Earth’s history. (A picture of the microatolls can be seen here.)

When two tectonic plates push up against one another so much that they end up shifting, that’s when earthquakes happen. While the majority of the time, they shift very quickly which causes vibrations to rise to the surface of the planet (aka earthquakes), occasionally the shifting process can take much longer with those living above the plates to not even feel anything. In fact, sometimes the vibrations can only be detected by experts using specialized equipment.

When the 32-year-long earthquake finally ended, it left devastation behind as it caused a massive 8.5-magnitude quake that created a large tsunami that hit the shores and killed thousands of people (this is known as the 1861 Sumatra earthquake).

It’s incredible that this slow-motion earthquake was discovered as they have only been recognized since the late part of the 1990s when they were first detected in the Pacific Northwest of North America as well as off the coast of Japan. And there are slow-motion quakes that experts believe are happening right now in different locations of Indonesia. For example, Rishav Mallick, who is a Ph.D. candidate at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, said that the island of Enggano is “sinking a little too fast.” “It’s not just one isolated event in the 1800s.” “We’re seeing this happen right now.”

Driving along the dusty stretch of the Stuart Highway between the towns of Alice Springs and Tennant Creek, in the Northern Territory, Australia, you may be held in awe by the sheer expanse of completely flat and barren sun-parched desert all around you. This is an arid realm seemingly devoid of life for large stretches, save some scattered brush and bushes, seemingly like the surface of some alien world, uninhabitable to humans. It is this sheer desolation and lack of any civilization as you meander along the bumpy, unkempt road that may cause you to be surprised to see spring up a sign that boldly states “Caution: Alien Landing Site Ahead.” As you drive on you may pass another sign with a prominent alien head on it welcoming you, as well as plastic statues of aliens. Then a ramshackle collection of shacks, a tiny gas station, and a roadhouse in the middle of nowhere, adorned with murals of aliens, UFOs, and with more alien statues standing around staring at you, the whole of it sitting within this inhospitable realm of dust, dirt, and sun. Welcome to the outback settlement of Wycliffe Well, the self-proclaimed “UFO Capitol of Australia.”

The remote, only partially inhabited roadside settlement originally began its life as a watering point along the stock route for the Overland Telegraph Line in the 1860s, going on to serves as a way-station for servicemen during World War II. During this time the area became well-known for its intense UFO activity, with soldiers reporting all manner of sightings nearly constantly. Before long, the area was attracting not only soldiers, but curiosity seekers and UFO buffs as well, who came here hoping to see strange things in the sky and for the most part rarely coming away disappointed. In the years after the war the visitors kept coming, and so a man by the name of Lew Farkas decided to capitalize on the region’s UFO craze by purchasing the local roadhouse in the 1980s to turn it into the Wycliffe Well Holiday Park. A gas station was put up, a bar installed on the premises to serve what he says is the best selection of beers found anywhere else, with about 300 different labels when fully stocked for all of those thirsty alien hunters, and the roadhouse turned into a sort of gas- food- lodging- general store- curio shop one stop shop for the many UFO nuts coming through, even setting up a campground, a large artificial lake for fishing and recreation area, a souvenir shop full of alien-themed oddities, and a sort of UFO museum with all manner of alien paraphernalia, all covering around 60 acres and creating a sort of oasis in the desert for those looking for aliens. He has said of the genesis of this strange place in an interview with Vice Magazine:

I read a journal, it might have been an American journal, that called Wycliffe the “UFO Capital of Australia.” I picked up on that and went with it. Originally, Wycliffe Well was just a fuel stop. When the highway opened, I started working on the idea that rather than tourists leaving Alice Springs and just heading blindly north, they’d be heading to me. I first arrived in Wycliffe in 1985. It was supposed to be a five-year experiment but five years turned into 25. The problem being that during that time, I just kept on investing in the place. There was already UFO activity in the area. I came here to discover that tourists were coming in just to have some sort of memento for this UFO spot. That’s how I started making up the souvenirs. Then, we made a mural of a UFO based on a sighting we had in the area. People would come and take a picture of that mural and nothing else. That’s how we started converting everything—every wall, every bit of space in the area—to do with space, to do with aliens, to do with UFOs. It got famous very quickly and it put Wycliffe Well on the world map.

Farkas made sure that the roadhouse was as alien-themed as possible. The roadhouse features a wide array of gimmicky plastic alien statues and mannequins, UFOs made out of junk, pictures of flying saucers and aliens everywhere. There is even an impressive UFO observation deck called “Mount Wycliffe,” which is built from corrugated iron nailed to the side of the machinery shed painted to look like rock and accessible by a stairway on the side. In the main lobby is a logbook for visitors to report any UFO sightings they’ve had, and it is bursting at the seams with hundreds of sightings reports and newspaper clippings of accounts from the area. Indeed, UFO reports have proven to be so frequent here that the Sun Herald newspaper and Time Magazine both ranked Wycliffe Well as one of the best spots in the world for seeing UFOs. In its heyday, it was claimed that you were more likely than not to see UFO activity here to some degree, and current owner Arc Vanderzalm has said of taking over the place and the many sightings here:

I don’t know what I was thinking when I arrived. My mind was boggling. There’s been four of five occasions when all the people out of the restaurant have gone out and observed something very unusual. It’s never the same twice. All types of different lights, changing direction, and colourful.

The original owner, Lew Farkas, said that during his decades-long tenure at Wycliffe there were hundreds of sightings, ranging from the odd to the truly fantastical, including people claiming to have seen aliens lurking about in the desert, and there were also some odd visitors to the site as well. Farkas has said of some of his weirder experiences during his years there:

On a lot of occasions people were getting chased down the highway by lights. They would pull up and be panicking so much that they would say, “Quick give us a room, we can’t stay out there.” So that was good for business… It chased people away at times, but it brought customers in too. One scientist came from England. He turned up with just a briefcase. He told us when he arrived that he was coming to investigate the sightings and that he could tell if there was anything in the atmosphere without even looking. When he opened up his briefcase, it was just like an old school lab. All these things would just fold out: little things zipping around, glass tubes, electronics. I don’t know how it worked, but he left happy.

The establishment has only a few permanent residents, but this little oddity out in the middle of nowhere still manages to pull in droves of visitors all the time. We are left to wonder just why this place should boast such nonstop UFO activity, and there have been plenty of theories, including that it is just headlights in the distance viewed over the flat landscape, misidentified planes, some sort of atmospheric or geological phenomenon, or of course actual alien spaceships. If these are truly alien UFOs, then what would draw them so heavily to this spot? Is it just the remoteness away from prying eyes? Is there some sort of base there? Perhaps it is a feature of the landscape or geology here that attracts them? Farkas has his own ideas, saying of it to Unexplained Australia:

Scientists say the sky is full of Ley Lines, which act like highways for the UFO’s to travel along. But these energy lines must meet somewhere and one of those crossroads or intersections lies directly above the middle of Australia. That’s why we see so many here.

What is going on here? Is there anything to this, or is it all just a cheesy marketing scheme? People continue to swear that they have come across UFOs here in this remote oasis of weirdness far from civilization, so it is hard to say. Whether there are any aliens and spaceships here or not, it is all a rather odd and wild ride, as well as an incredibly weird and yet undoubtedly charming roadside attraction in the badlands of Australia, perhaps worth checking out if you are ever passing through.

To paraphrase Jimmy Durante, “Everybody wants to get into the UFO act!” It started with the release of Navy radar images and photos of ship and pilot encounters and got hot when the Pentagon agreed to issue a report on UFOs – still scheduled for this month. Presidential candidates were asked about them during the 2020 campaign and late night talk show hosts seemed to ask every guest about them. Former President Barack Obama is already in the act, but he expanded his role recently, while the White House press secretary and a Pentagon spokesperson both got peppered with questions this week. What would Jimmy ‘The Schnoz’ Durante think?

“And so I would hope that the knowledge that there were aliens out there would solidify people’s sense that what we have in common is a little more important. But no doubt there would be immediate arguments about like, well, we need to spend a lot more money on weapons systems to defend ourselves. New religions would pop up. And who knows what kind of arguments we get into. We’re good at manufacturing arguments for each other.”

No, that wasn’t Durante’s answer — it came from former President Obama. In a wide-ranging interview with Ezra Klein of The New York Times, the questioning turned to his previously stated interest in knowing more about those recent UFOs. When asked what he thought would happen if they were proved to contain aliens, Obama suggested that instead of fighting them, humans would form new religions. To worship with them? To worship THEM? He didn’t say and the reporter unfortunately didn’t pursue that line of questioning.

Someone who would undoubtedly vote for weapons over bibles is John F. Kirby, Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs. In a recent press conference, he was asked repeatedly about UFOs, UAPs and the forthcoming Pentagon report on them. Kirby repeatedly deflected the questions to the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), Avril Haines – the first woman to lead the U.S. Intelligence Community. No, Haines wasn’t there to field the deflection. At least Lewis acknowledged them as “phenomena” rather than dismissing them.

What would DNI Avril Haines say?

“We take incursions into our airspace, both by identified and unidentified aircraft, very seriously and investigate each one.”

That’s what one would have expected from the DoD’s John F. Kirby or DNI Avril Haines, but that answer came from Jen Psaki, White House press secretary, at a briefing last week. However, she then mimicked Lewis.

“But ODNI would be working on that report and, in terms of disclosure, that would be up to them.”

When pressed on what President Biden thought about UFOs, Psaki said:

“Whether that is identified or unidentified aircraft, and we don’t discuss that publicly for a range of reasons, but certainly the President supports the ODNI putting together a report and following through on that commitment.”

It was in the summer of 1947 that something crashed on the Foster Ranch, Lincoln County, New Mexico. Whatever it was, it left huge amounts of strange debris across the ranch. There was talk of strange, small bodies also having been found in the area, thrown out of the craft that exploded on impact. Within no time at all, personnel from the Roswell Army Air Field were on the scene, preventing anyone outside of the military from getting anywhere near the crash site.  Cordons were created and people were warned never to talk about what they had seen. The problem (in fact, a very big problem) for the military, though, is that the rancher who found the materials, William Brazel, had told fellow ranchers in the area, and friends, about his find before the military was informed – which meant that at least parts of the story were out there before the military’s cover-up began. That was not a good thing. There was even confusion at the Roswell Army Air Field: before orders were put into place to prevent anyone talking, the press-office at the base issued a statement saying that a flying disc (as UFOs were known back then) had been recovered and was due to be inspected.

One such statement, from Associated Press, read as follows:

“The many rumors regarding the flying disc became a reality yesterday when the intelligence office of the 509^th Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force, Roswell Army Air Field, was fortunate enough to gain possession of a disc through the cooperation of one of the local ranchers and the sheriff’s office of Chavez County. The flying object landed on a ranch near Roswell sometime last week. Not having phone facilities, the rancher stored the disc until such time as he was able to contact the sheriff’s office, who in turn notified Major Jesse A. Marcel of the 509^th Bomb Group Intelligence Office. Action was immediately taken and the disc was picked up at the rancher’s home. It was inspected at the Roswell Army Air Field and subsequently loaned by Major Marcel to higher headquarters.”

The military quickly knocked that statement down, claiming that what had been recovered was nothing stranger than a weather-balloon. As for the bodies, the Air Force would not even address that matter until 1997, when they claimed that the bodies were, in fact, crash-test dummies used in high-altitude parachute experiments. It was also in the nineties that the Air Force changed its mind again on what came down on William Braazel’s ranch. It was no longer a weather-balloon, but a Mogul balloon, designed to monitor for Soviet atomic bomb tests. In 1993, all of this chopping and changing caught the attention of the late Steven Schiff, at the time the Congressman of New Mexico – the state in which the Roswell event occurred. Far from happy by what he saw as some kind of cover-up, Schiff approached the Government Accountability Office (at the time, it was known as the General Accounting Office) and asked them to look into the Roswell affair and see what might be found. The GAO was enthused about the idea of looking into Roswell. It was, however, not so much what the GAO found that intrigued them, but what they couldn’t find.

As the GAO dug deeper and deeper, they learned to their amazement and concern that every single outgoing message from the old Roswell Army Air Field, from 1945 to 1951, could not be located. The files were gone. All of them. The GAO approached the Air Force and the National Archives for answers. There were no answers. Only puzzles. The National Archives checked their files: no luck. The Air Force came up blank, too. Rumors began to surface that when Steven Schiff approached the GAO in 1993, someone who was sitting on the Roswell story quickly realized that the truth of the 1947 incident was now in danger of being compromised, so a decision was quickly taken to have the original papers – wherever they were stored – destroyed. There is a very good reason for that: the GAO is an extremely powerful office of the U.S. Government and certainly had the power and ability to demand access to just about anything it wanted access to. Shredding the old Roswell Army Air Field papers may have been the only way to have ensured that the GAO didn’t get what it and Congressman Schiff wanted. It was just another layer of conspiracy in the quest to understand what really happened at Roswell. The outcome: the GAO concluded the files had been destroyed. Congressman Schiff was irate. For whatever reasons some people seem to draw alleged alien forces to them, sometimes even being abducted by them multiple times. There is some quality to them that makes these individuals prone to contact with UFOs and aliens, often numbering into the dozens of times for reasons we may never truly fathom. One very strange case comes to us from England, with a boy who would not only be frequently visited by supposed alien entities, but would also manifest strange psychic abilities and a bizarre connection with these creatures that makes his case even weirder than most.

One day in July of 1987, a boy named Jason Kent was celebrating his 4th birthday at his rural country home near Slade, Green in Kent. It was a joyous day for everyone involved, the weather was nice, and everyone was having fun, but things suddenly took a turn for the strange. Out of seemingly nowhere dark clouds rolled in and thunder began to shake the sky, causing everyone to go inside as the rain began pouring down in torrents. As they all looked outside in bafflement as to why the clear day had so abruptly become dark and stormy there was an incredibly bright flash of lightning, almost blinding in its intensity, and that’s when little Jason began to act rather oddly. He seemed to go into some sort of trance, after which he began blurting out complex mathematical equations, including what his mother would describe as “fantastic numbers, huge numbers, strange algebraic configurations, mathematical terms like ‘pi’ and ‘binary codes’.” It was all far beyond what a 4-year-old would know, indeed even the adults present had no idea what they meant, and he continued rapidly rattling off these mysterious equations and numbers for several minutes before he suddenly turned to his father and calmly said, “They are waiting for me. I have to go.”

Before Jason’s father could even process what was going on, the boy was made to open the door to step out into the downpour outside, his father grabbing him to hold him back just in time. Jason allegedly struggled against his father, completely set on going out of the house, and then, just as fast as it had come the storm was gone. The black clouds evaporating, the thunder stopped its relentless roar, and the sun shone again. Jason was calm once again, but when his family asked him what had happened and what those numbers had meant, he seemed to have no memory of what had happened. Indeed, he didn’t even seem to realize that there had been a storm at all.

After this strange incident Jason began to have frequent potent nightmares that got so bad that he would often wake in the middle of the night shouting and screaming, sending his mother running to his aid. He never seemed to be aware of what the nightmares were about, and they only got worse. His worried parents would bring him to various psychiatrists, psychologists, child behaviorists, and sleep experts, but no one could quite figure out what was wrong with him, or why he should be having these intense nightmares. It wasn’t until he was 12 years old that he would gradually come to an awareness of what was happening during these rather frightening night time episodes, some of the memories seeping through into his waking moments, and he would tell his mother one day of what he could remember from these incidents:

It’s always the light that comes first. Then I see the tall one rise up at the foot of the bed. Suddenly there’s lots of little ones everywhere. They’re fuzzy and indistinct, and they move very fast. I can’t move or speak, but I’m awake and I can see and hear and feel. I want to scream and run, but the sound doesn’t come out and my body doesn’t move. I hate them. I hate them. I have to go with them. They take me to an operating theatre, like at the hospital. It’s all white and shiny. Sometimes it’s a circular room with a metal floor. It’s always cold. They’re there. The big one touches me but I don’t feel it, like as if I’ve had an anesthetic. But you don’t believe me, you just think I’m making it all up.

At first he was right, she didn’t really believe it, but Jason insisted it was real, keeping to his story as the years went on, and his older brother Daniel also said it was true. Ann was perplexed enough to begin looking into any information she could find on UFOs and alien abductions, curious as to what might be going on. She has said of this in an interview with researcher and author Sean Casteel:

Even at that point, though, we were not convinced, but rather we believed that Jason believed it, and it was this belief of his which drove us to searching for books and information. We thought that the more we could learn about this subject of UFOs and aliens, then we would be better armed, as it were, to help our son. We were not ready for what we actually discovered; we could not believe the similarities between some of things Jason had been saying since he was first able to speak, and what we were reading. His story had not changed in all those years. I would add, however, that we did not accept this situation just like that. My greatest regret in all this is that it took me so many years to accept it.

Ann would end up reaching out to actual UFO researchers in an effort to find out what was going on, with one researcher and author Jean Ritchie speculating that these aliens had taken an interest in him because he was psychic or special somehow, perhaps what is called an “Indigo Child,” a child who is particularly spiritually in tune with the universe, usually described as having a special connection with aliens or as even being alien-human hybrids. Over the years these claims of psychic abilities would allegedly turn out to be true, with Jason exhibiting various psychic abilities that he either already had or which had been granted to him by his otherworldly abductors. Ann would later say of this:

Daniel certainly still has certain abilities, which I know have something to do with the ETs and go back to when they were actually interacting with him. He has the ability to ‘know’ someone just by shaking hands with them. He can tell what sort of person they are, how their life has been so far, family stuff, etc. He would be worth his weight in gold probably to a big corporation in the recruitment department, but he won’t acknowledge this ability and sees it as a curse rather than a gift. You have to understand that when Jason was growing up, until his early teens, he was terrified of his experiences. It wasn’t until he started to overcome his fears and listen to ‘them’ that he started realizing his abilities—abilities that he says everyone has but which are just lying dormant. Over the last few years, he has really excelled in what he does, although his mind reading can be quite frustrating at times. It means that you can’t keep secrets.

As all of this was going on, there were some other strange things going on at their rural property. According to Jason’s family, they had some cattle turn up dead for unspecified reasons, and although the local law enforcement declared it was due to salmonella poisoning, a rumor made the rounds that an Army major had allegedly told locals that the deaths had actually been caused by an experiment with microwaves. The family claimed that more and more military personnel would show up in the area from time to time, and that in the end they were told to leave their farm, forcing them to move to Lincolnshire. What was going on here and what did this have to do with Jason’s strange experiences and newfound powers? Ann has said of what she thinks of all of this:

I believe that the powers that be resented the fact that ETs would want to interact with ordinary people. It all comes back to their power plays eventually. Perhaps they thought that by getting rid of us, that the ETs would start interacting with them. It could also be that the base at Mereworth has some sort of underground facilities, too, and I now feel that the deaths of our cattle and other animals were all connected to the military as well as—or instead of —the ETs. It could be that they were concerned that we might be affected by some sort of new technology they were using. After all, it’s easier to cover up animal deaths—which they did by blaming salmonella—than to explain human deaths.

Jason’s alien visitations would become less frequent as he grew up, until they stopped altogether, but he still retained his psychic powers, and according to his mother even healing powers. She has over the years gone from that scared, initially skeptical woman to being convinced that Jason is actually what she calls a “walk-in,” or an alien soul inhabiting her son’s human body and able to travel between the two planes of existence. She has also written a book on Jason and UFOs in general called Jason, My Indigo Child, which goes into great depth their experiences and struggles throughout the whole bizarre ordeal. What it is it about this boy that would draw such forces to him? What did they want with him? What does any of it really mean? Is there even anything to it at all? It is all certainly one of the more interesting repeat abductees on record, and whatever the answers may be it is all very strange, indeed.
