There are people who have supposedly had odd encounters with UFOs and aliens from all over the world, from all walks of life. Among these have often been those who have high social standing or are well-known by the general public, and these usually attract the most attention. After all, some random sighting from an unknown guy in Bumpsville is likely to be quickly forgotten, but what of when it is an icon who is a household name? Just as with tabloid reports these are the kinds of stories we can’t get enough of and are inexorably drawn to, and one in the UFO community that has shown staying power is the time the great American entertainer Jackie Gleason was purportedly shown alien bodies by former president Richard Nixon.

A lot of younger readers might not recognize the name, but in his day the comedian, actor, and writer Jackie Gleason (1916- 1987) was a legendary icon. Probably best known for his character Ralph Kramden in the hit television series The Honeymooners and his role as Sheriff Buford T. Justice in the Smokey and the Bandit series of films, Gleason had a long and storied career, appearing in countless movies and TV shows in the 1950s and 60s, including his own The Jackie Gleason Show, also launching successful music career, and he was a very famous and well-known stalwart of the entertainment industry and a household name. Behind the scenes, though, he had an array of unconventional hobbies that many people did not really know about and which he tried as much as possible to keep out of the public eye.

You see, Jackie Gleason was a complete paranormal and UFO geek. He spent hours reading about all areas of parapsychology, Forteana, aliens, and the unexplained, and obsessively collected books on such things, in particular UFOs. Indeed, he is widely known as having had one of the largest private collections of books on UFOs in the country, which would be donated to the University of Miami after his death. In the biography The Life and Legend of Jackie Gleason, author William A. Henry III explains of this intense interest and fascination thusly:

Jackie Gleason had a lifelong fascination with the supernatural. He would spend small fortunes on everything from financing psychic research to buying a sealed box said to contain actual ectoplasm, the spirit of life itself. He would contact everyone from back-alley charlatans to serious researchers like J.B. Rhine of Duke University and, disdaining the elitism of the scholarly apparatus, would treat them all much the same way. Gleason was a frequent insomniac. He would stay up high the night reading (or rereading) some of the hundreds of (UFO and paranormal phenomena) volumes in his library.

He was hardcore, in other words, even once saying himself, “I’m kind of a nut on the subject.” It was partly this interest that led to his friendship with former president Richard Nixon, who was also interested in UFOs. Gleason had also long supported Nixon’s campaigns and was a staunch Republican, and as Nixon had a vacation compound not far away from Gleason’s Florida home the two would strike up a friendship to become frequent golfing buddies, chattering about UFOs and other weird stuff the whole time. It was after one of these golfing outings on February 19, 1973 that Nixon apparently showed up alone at Gleason’s door in the middle of the night and allegedly excitedly told Gleason to get dressed because he wanted to show him something, after which the comedian was taken to Homestead Air Force Base in Florida and guided by armed guards to a top-secret, highly secured remote installation. Things would purportedly get very strange from here.

Gleason was reportedly led into an underground area through sterile corridors and past several ominous laboratories, at one point passing a weird twisted metal mass encased in glass that Nixon told Gleason was the remains of a UFO. Gleason supposedly wasn’t sure what to think of this, and at first thought the president was just joking around, but he would soon find that this was no joke as he was led into a large chamber area where there were “six or eight of what looked like glass-topped Coke freezers.” Within each of these freezers was allegedly the mangled remains of tiny humanoid bodies, according to Gleason “only about two feet tall, with bald heads and disproportionately large ears.” These, he was told, were the remains of the occupants of a UFO that had crashed “nearby,” and to say it was shocking to the great comedian would be an understatement.

Upon returning to his home he was apparently very unsettled, noticeably disturbed and panicked, and looking haggard. This was enough to alarm his wife at the time, his second wife Beverly McKittrick, and after at first denying that anything was wrong after several sleepless weeks, during which he could barely even eat, the shaken Gleason apparently came clean and told her everything, swearing her to secrecy in the process. Unfortunately for him, Gleason and Beverly’s marriage was on the rocks at the time, and she promptly broke her promise to keep it all secret, first writing of it in a book that she planned to publish on their marriage but never did, and then according to her recounting the tale in a high profile interview with Esquire magazine in 1974, something which purportedly greatly perturbed Gleason, to the point that according to her it directly led to their prompt divorce, as well as again in The National Enquirer in 1983.

The comedian himself would stay silent on the matter, neither confirming nor denying his wife’s tale, and only apparently coming clean in 1986, when UFO researcher Larry Warren claims Gleason himself confided in him to tell him it was all true, however, it is not clear if this meeting ever took place and Warren has been criticized for embellishing accounts in the past. How do we explain that nothing was heard from the comedian himself? Larry Bryant, the editor of a UFO newsletter called Just Cause, to which Gleason subscribed, and who also unsuccessfully tried to get records on the event from the military through Freedom of Information Act requests, says he tried to get an affidavit from Gleason on the matter, and says of his silence:

Though I never did hear from Gleason, I did learn that he had been contacted by a third party in the film industry. At this confrontation, Gleason chose to neither confirm nor deny the story, saying that he would prefer not to discuss it all. The way I see it Gleason easily could have set the record straight in reply to my proposal or in an explanation to the inquisitive film-industry representative. If the story was a fabrication or misinterpretation on the part of his wife, he now had every opportunity to say so. That he chose not to merely deepens the mystery.

This is one of the problems we face with this outlandish tale, that it is only officially known from the account given by Gleason’s ex-wife, who was not only writing a book at the time, but also was not too happy with the late comedian in general at that point, their relationship having gone very sour. It is very probable she made it all up out of spite or to sell books, but this hasn’t stopped a lot of researchers from trying to track down if there is any truth to the tale, and any truth there may be seems to be pretty thin on the ground.

It has been confirmed through Gleason’s personal diaries that he did in fact play a game of golf with Nixon on the day in question, and that they had spent about 10 minutes talking about UFOs, but that is about it. Gleason himself makes no mention of covert midnight meetings or of being whisked off to a secret base to be shown crashed spaceships and dead aliens, and he never publicly spoke about it, although the more conspiratorial minded among us will likely say that these entries were either redacted or were never written at all in order for Gleason to keep his secrecy on the matter. There is also absolutely no corroboration or records from the Air Force base that Gleason had ever been there at all, much less on the night of February 19, 1973, and even if he was, is it normal operating procedure to allow a civilian entertainer with no security clearance at all to just waltz into a top secret installation and show them whatever you want, including freaking dead aliens? Also, just how did Nixon get away from the constant presence of his Secret Service security detail, which usually shadowed his every move, to go traipsing off to a comedian’s house to tell him the truth about UFOs and aliens? It all makes the whole affair not a little suspicious, although then again the military might have covered it up, perhaps. Yet this is not the end of the strikes against this amazing tale.

Perhaps the most damning thing about it all is that the Esquire article that Beverly adamantly claims to have appeared in doesn’t actually seem to exist, narrowing down the only real known coverage of it to an article in The National Enquirer, not exactly known as the last bastion of journalistic integrity. Beverly for her part insisted that the Esquire article does exist in an interview with researcher Kenny Young in 2003, and sure maybe the Esquire article was “erased,” but the fact of the matter is that every article on the case can be essentially traced back to that National Enquirer article, which incidentally also happens to have painted Gleason in a very negative light, perfectly keeping in line with what one would think a vengeful ex-wife would write.

So was this the work of a conniving, spurned woman getting revenge? Maybe. Was she trying to drum up interest for her planned book that never came to fruition? Likely. Was a lot of this exaggerated and played up over the years? I wouldn’t doubt it. Did Richard Nixon shake off his security detail to randomly gather up a comedian in order to take him to a top secret military facility and show him dead alien bodies and the wreckage of a spaceship? Who knows? Does it make for an entertaining little historical oddity that has managed to worm its way into the UFO lore? Definitely.

IS DE BEROEMDE JERUZALEM UFO TERUG?

Op 28 januari 2011 daalde ’s avonds een UFO neer boven de Rotskoepel op de berg en schoot even later met een onvoorstelbare snelheid weer de lucht in.

Nu duikt er een UFO op boven een klein dorp in Californië dat veel lijkt op die inmiddels beroemd geworden UFO uit 2011.

Er is een man die gewoon buiten loopt en in de verte boven de huizen van het dorp een vreemd cirkelvormig object waarneemt, dat stil in de lucht lijkt te hangen.

Volgens UFO onderzoeker Scott Waring lijkt dit ronde object als twee druppels water op de beroemde video die in januari 2011 boven de Rotskoepel in Jeruzalem verscheen.

De man dacht in eerste instantie aan een weerballon of een reclame object, maar kon niets ontdekken waaruit bleek dat dit object ergens mee was verbonden. Hij vertelt dat hij toen hij het object een tijdje had gefilmd hij koude handen kreeg en besloot te stoppen om later dichter bij huis nog eens te proberen.

En dan komt er inderdaad een tweede opname van nog wat dichterbij en wederom is daar totaal niets op te ontdekken waaruit zou blijken dat het ergens mee is verbonden. Het hangt volkomen stil in de lucht en als reclame object zou het ook weinig zin hebben volgens de filmer, want er staan maar een paar huizen in het dorp.

Wat helaas verder niet wordt vermeld is hoe en op wat voor manier het object vervolgens weer verdween, maar alle UFO onderzoekers die de opname hebben bekeken zijn het wel met elkaar eens dat daar daadwerkelijk iets hangt en dat niemand een verklaring heeft voor wat het dan wel is, waardoor het daarmee een UFO wordt.


Zoals gezegd is Scott Waring ervan overtuigd dat dit object veel overeenkomsten heeft met de ufo boven Jeruzalem uit 2011. Voor hen die vergeten zijn hoe die er ook alweer uit zag hierna een deel uit een eerder artikel over deze bijzondere UFO.

Heeft de Tempelberg misschien in een ver verleden ook een rol gespeeld bij de aanwezigheid van de Goden op aarde. Wordt er ook in de Tempelberg iets geactiveerd, net zoals bij de piramides?

In 2011 vond er nog een merkwaardig voorval plaats op de Tempelberg. Een gebeurtenis die door talloze mensen is gezien en vastgelegd en waarvan de mainstream-media niet wisten hoe snel ze dit tot hoax moesten verklaren.

Voor de mainstream wereld zou het hier gaan om een hoax, in elkaar gezet door iemand die met zijn video zoveel mogelijk bezoekers wilde trekken om hiermee geld te verdienen, maar de werkelijkheid ligt ook hier zoals zo vaak wat anders.

Er is namelijk niet één opname van dit fenomeen gemaakt, maar meerdere, door verschillende mensen en vanaf verschillende posities. De kans dat deze opnames echt zijn, is dan ook veel groter dan dat ze allemaal nep zouden zijn.

Bovendien zijn er nog meer merkwaardigheden, zoals te zien in de volgende video:

Ufoloog Scott Waring komt nu met een interessant verhaal betreffende bovengenoemde gebeurtenis.

Om te beginnen zegt hij dat ook hij uitgebreide analyses heeft uitgevoerd voor wat betreft de opnames van deze gebeurtenis en dat ze honderd procent echt zijn. Niet alleen zijn er door talloze verschillende mensen opnames gemaakt, het is daarnaast volgens hem nog gezien door ongeveer 10.000 ooggetuigen, bestaande uit een mix van toeristen en lokale bewoners.

Ook vertelt hij dat gedurende de kruistochten de Tempeliers een aantal heilige objecten hebben verborgen onder de Rotskoepel. Die objecten zouden dan onder andere zijn de Ark van het Verbond en de Heilige Graal.  

Velen zullen zich afgevraagd hebben wat die UFO daar op dat moment te zoeken had, wetende dat ze zouden worden opgemerkt door duizenden mensen. Waarom kwam het juist naar beneden boven een tempel die duizenden jaren oud is? 

Scott denkt dat hij het antwoord op die vraag heeft:

Ze noemen het niet voor niets Rotskoepel. De tempel uit die tijd werd gebouwd bovenop een rots die een heilige betekenis had. Het is een heilige rots voor zowel Joden als moslims.

Moslims zeggen dat de rots de plek is van de nachtreis van de profeet Mohammed. Op een nacht toen Mohammed lag te slapen in de buurt van Mekka kwam de engel Gabriël bij Mohammed en nam hem mee naar al-Mashjid al-Aqsa (de verste moskee) in Jeruzalem, gelegen op een steenworp afstand van de Rotskoepel.

Vanaf de rots reisde Mohammed samen met de engel Gabriël naar de hemel, waar hij andere profeten ontmoette zoals Jezus en Mozes. Ook zag hij daar zowel de hel als het paradijs en zag tenslotte God op zijn troon, omringd door engelen. 

Scott zegt nu dat de UFO die we boven de Rotskoepel zien, niemand minder is dan de engel Gabriël.

De rots heeft volgens hem een heilige betekenis die heel ver teruggaat en bevat waarschijnlijk ook hele oude technologie, waarbij mensen snel konden reizen van de ene plek in het heelal naar de andere (teleportatie). Misschien kwam die UFO wel om dat dimensieportaal in de rots opnieuw te activeren. Of misschien was het Gabriël die daar nogmaals kwam ter gedachtenis aan het eerdere bezoek aan zijn goede vriend Mohammed. 

De engel Gabriël was buitenaards, beschikte over vergevorderde technologie, waardoor mensen hem in die dagen alleen maar konden identificeren als een dienaar en/of boodschapper van God.

En dit is volgens Scott Waring het geheim achter de mysterieuze en tot op de dag van vandaag niet verklaarde UFO boven de Rotskoepel een aantal jaren geleden.

De ufologen zijn wel aardig met elkaar eens dat het object in Porterville een onverklaard verschijnsel is en dat het geen weer- of reclameballon is. Nu staat deze website erom bekend dat ze lezers heeft die meestal wel weten te ontrafelen wat het is, dus mocht dat dit keer ook zou zijn, laat ons weten.

Wild Weather, the Wobble Effect

“We warned at the start of ZetaTalk, in 1995, that unpredictable weather extremes, switching about from drought to deluge, would occur and increase on a lineal basis up until the pole shift. Where this occurred steadily, it has only recently become undeniable. ZetaTalk, and only ZetaTalk, warned of these weather changes, at that early date. Our early warnings spoke to the issue of global heating from the core outward, hardly Global Warming, a surface or atmospheric issue, but caused by consternation in the core. Affected by the approach of Planet X, which was by then starting to zoom rapidly toward the inner solar system for its periodic passage, the core was churning, melting the permafrost and glaciers and riling up volcanoes. When the passage did not occur as expected in 2003 because Planet X had stalled in the inner solar system, we explained the increasing weather irregularities in the context of the global wobble that had ensued – weather wobbles where the Earth is suddenly forced under air masses, churning them. This evolved by 2005 into a looping jet stream, loops breaking away and turning like a tornado to affect the air masses underneath. Meanwhile, on Planet Earth, droughts had become more intractable and deluges positively frightening, temperature swings bringing snow in summer in the tropics and searing heat in Artic regions, with the violence of storms increasing in number and ferocity.”

The wobble seems to have changed, as the temperature in Europe suddenly plunged after being like an early Spring, Alaska has its coldest temps ever while the US and much of Canada is having an extremely mild winter. India went from fatal cold spell to balmy again. Has the Earth changed position vs a vs Planet X to cause this? [and from another] Bitter cold records broken in Alaska – all time coldest record nearly broken, but Murphy’s Law intervenes [Jan 30] http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/01/30/bitter-cold-records-broken-in-alaska Jim River, AK closed in on the all time record coldest temperature of -80°F set in 1971, which is not only the Alaska all-time record, but the record for the entire United States. Unfortunately, it seems the battery died in the weather station just at the critical moment. While the continental USA has a mild winter and has set a number of high temperature records in the last week and pundits ponder whether they will be blaming the dreaded “global warming” for those temperatures, Alaska and Canada have been suffering through some of the coldest temperatures on record during the last week.

There has been no change in the wobble pattern, the wobble has merely become more severe. Nancy noted a Figure 8 format when the Earth wobble first became noticeable, in early 2005, after Planet X moved into the inner solar system at the end of 2003. The Figure 8 shifted along to the east a bit on the globe between 2005 and 2009, (the last time Nancy took its measure) as Planet X came closer to the Earth, encountering the magnetic N Pole with a violent push earlier in the day. But the pattern of the Figure 8 remained essentially the same. So what changed recently that the weather patterns became noticeably different in late January, 2012?

The N Pole is pushed away when it comes over the horizon, when the noon Sun is centered over the Pacific. This regularly puts Alaska under colder air, with less sunlight, and thus the historically low temps there this January, 2012 as the wobble has gotten stronger. But by the time the Sun is positioned over India, the N Pole has swung during the Figure 8 so the globe tilts, and this tilt is visible in the weather maps from Asia. The tilt has forced the globe under the hot air closer to the Equator, warming the land along a discernable tilt demarcation line.

The next loop of the Figure 8 swings the globe so that the N Pole moves in the other direction, putting the globe again at a tilt but this time in the other direction. This tilt is discernable in weather maps of Europe, again along a diagonal line. Depending upon air pressure and temperature differences, the weather on either side of this diagonal line may be suddenly warm or suddenly cold. The tilt and diagonal line lingers to affect much of the US and Canada, but the Figure 8 changes at this point to be an up and down motion, pulling the geographic N Pole south so the US is experiencing a warmer than expected winter under a stronger Sun. Then the cycle repeats, with the magnetic N Pole of Earth pushed violently away again as the Sun is positioned over the Pacific.

The ice in Canada’s western Arctic ripped open in a massive “fracturing event” this spring that spread like a wave across 1,000 kilometres of the Beaufort Sea. Huge leads of water – some more than 500 kilometres long and as much as 70 kilometres across – opened up from Alaska to Canada’s Arctic islands as the massive ice sheet cracked as it was pushed around by strong winds and currents. That fueled the Beaufort Gyre, a wind-driven ocean current that flows clockwise. The gyre was the key force pulling pieces of ice west past Point Barrow, the northern nub of Alaska that protrudes into the Beaufort Sea.

The Figure 8 formed by the N Pole during the daily Earth wobble has shifted somewhat to the East, due to Planet X positioned more to the right of the Earth during its approach. This was anticipated, and well described in ZetaTalk, the Earth crowding to the left in the cup to escape the approach of Planet X, so the angle between these two planets would change slightly. This shift of the Figure 8 to the East is due to the push against the Earth’s magnetic N Pole occurring sooner each day than prior. Thus instead of occurring when the Sun is high over the Pacific, over New Zealand, it is now occurring when the Sun is high over Alaska. All the wobble points have shifted eastward accordingly.

This has brought a lingering Winter to the western US, and a changed sloshing pattern to the Arctic waters. Instead of Pacific waters being pushed through the Bering Straits into the Arctic when the polar push occurs, the wobble is swinging the Arctic to the right, and then later to the left, creating a circular motion in the waters trapped in the Arctic. Since the Earth rotates counterclockwise, the motion also takes this path. This is yet another piece of evidence that the establishment is hard pressed to explain. They are attempting to ascribe this to high pressure and wind, all of which are not new to the Arctic, but this circular early breakup of ice in the Arctic is new.

I was looking at this Mars photo when I found a face looking out to the horizon. The face sits on the side of a hill and is made of a stone substance, much like the sphinx face made in Egypt. This face has softer edges and rounder cheeks, making me believe its a woman...probably a queen or important woman in their culture. You can see her hair flowing down the back and side of her face. Extraordinary and important evidence of ancient alien cultures on Mars. They don't look too much different than we do, do they?

A global ocean covered the planet 3.2 billion years ago, when the first primitive microbes were emerging.

There would have been hardly any dry land – mirroring the way it looked in Waterworld, the 1995 post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie.

US scientists studied the ancient rocky Australian outback for traces of oxygen to form a picture of the ocean water from billions of years ago.  

The finding could shed light on the evolution of life on Earth and explain how single-cell organisms first emerged.

'Kevin Costner, eat your heart out – you may want to start planning the prequel,' said the research team.  

'Early Earth, home to some of our planet's first lifeforms, may have been a real-life "waterworld" – without a continent in sight. 

'It may even have looked a bit like the post-apocalyptic, and land-free, future imagined in Costner's infamous film Waterworld.'

In the film, humanity struggles to survive after the ice caps melt and inundate the planet with water.

But, unlike in the movie, there were no fish – only tiny aquatic organisms called cyanobacteria.

The discovery, reported in the journal Nature Geoscience, is based on an analysis of rocks from Northwestern Australia's outback.

They date back to a period known geologically as the 'Paleoarchean' – spanning a period 3,600 million to 3,200 million years ago – when life consisted of nothing more complex than bacteria.

'The history of life on Earth tracks available niches,' said co-author Professor Boswell Wing, of the University of Colorado Boulder. 

'If you've got a waterworld, a world covered by ocean, then dry niches are just not going to be available.'

It was identified from the chemical signatures of an ocean in a chunk of crust that's been turned on its side in the Panorama desert in the Aussie outback. 

It is possible to walk across what used to be the hard, outer shell of the planet in the space of a day.

It will take you from the base to spots where water once bubbled up through the seafloor via hydrothermal vents.

The researchers described it as a 'once-in-a-lifetime opportunity' to pick up clues about the ocean water from billions of years ago. 

'Today, there are these really scrubby and rolling hills that are cut through by dry river beds,' said lead author Dr Benjamin Johnson, now at at Iowa State University. 

'It's a crazy place. There are no samples of really ancient ocean water lying around, but we do have rocks that interacted with that seawater and remembered that interaction.'

He likened it to looking at coffee grounds to gather information about the water that poured through it.

The researchers analysed data from more than 100 rock samples from across the dry terrain.

They were looking, in particular, for two different flavours, or 'isotopes', of oxygen trapped in stone – Oxygen-18 and the slightly less heavy Oxygen-16. 

The ratio may have been a bit off in seawater 3.2 billion years ago – with just a tiny bit more Oxygen-18 than you'd see today.

Professor Wing said these are 'super sensitive' to the presence of continents.

Today's land masses are covered by clay-rich soils that disproportionately take up heavier oxygen isotopes from the water – like mineral vacuums for Oxygen-18, he explained.

There simply weren't any soil-rich continents around to suck the isotopes up, but there could have been tiny spots of land dotted about.

'There's nothing in what we've done that says you can't have teeny, micro-continents sticking out of the oceans,' Professor Wing said. 

'We just don't think there were global-scale formation of continental soils like we have today.'

The researchers are now planning to scour other, younger rock formations at sites from Arizona to South Africa to see if they can find when the land masses we know today first roared onto the scene.

'Trying to fill that gap is really important,' said Dr Johnson said.

Can giant exoplanets such as super-Earths or even mini-Neptunes be habitable? There’s currently a lot of debate about that question, but new findings about one such world suggest that some of them might indeed be able to support life. A research team from the University of Cambridge has announced that K2-18b, a planet a bit more than twice the size of Earth, could have liquid water and habitable conditions, even though it’s been classified as a mini-Neptune.

• The peer-reviewed findings were published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters on February 27, 2020.

Water vapor had previously been detected in the atmosphere of K2-18b, as announced last September, but because the planet was classified by most scientists as a mini-Neptune, it was regarded to be very unlikely to be habitable. Planets like Neptune have deep hydrogen atmospheres and no real solid surface. Nikku Madhusudhan from Cambridge’s Institute of Astronomy, who led the research team, said in a statement:

Water vapor has been detected in the atmospheres of a number of exoplanets but, even if the planet is in the habitable zone, that doesn’t necessarily mean there are habitable conditions on the surface. To establish the prospects for habitability, it is important to obtain a unified understanding of the interior and atmospheric conditions on the planet, in particular, whether liquid water can exist beneath the atmosphere.

K2-18b is about 2.6 times the radius and 8.6 times the mass of Earth. It is 124 light-years away, orbiting within the habitable zone – the region where liquid water could exist – of a red dwarf star. There is also a second candidate planet closer to the star, K2-18c, but it has not been confirmed yet.

On mini-Neptunes, a thick hydrogen atmosphere is thought to surround a watery layer that then surrounds a rocky iron core. But under such conditions, the temperatures would be too high, and the water would be under too much pressure, for life to survive. This is similar to why Neptune or Uranus type worlds are uninhabitable, at least by earthly life standards, having deep atmospheres with crushing pressures, no solid rocky surface and no liquid water.

Given K2-18b’s large size, it has been assumed that it is more like a mini-Neptune than a super-Earth, which typically are a bit smaller, but still at least twice as large as Earth.

But that assessment might be changing a bit, if the researchers are right.

They found that K2-18b’s hydrogen atmosphere might not be too thick after all, and the water layer might actually be habitable, perhaps more like oceans on Earth. The researchers used the mass and radius of the planet, as well as previous observations of the atmosphere, to make a better determination of the composition and structure of both the atmosphere and deep interior. Detailed numerical models and statistical methods were used to help explain what conditions are actually like on this distant world.

There has been a lot of debate over whether K2-18b is a super-Earth or mini-Neptune. Most scientists now agree that it is a mini-Neptune.

The computer models showed that a range of conditions are possible in the planet’s interior. Those models used known atmospheric properties as constraints on which conditions are the most plausible. The potential habitability rests on just how extensive the hydrogen atmosphere is. According to study co-author Matthew Nixon at the Institute of Astronomy:

We wanted to know the thickness of the hydrogen envelope, how deep the hydrogen goes. While this is a question with multiple solutions, we’ve shown that you don’t need much hydrogen to explain all the observations together.

So what did the researchers find? According to their results, the maximum extent of the hydrogen atmosphere, or envelope, is only 6% of K2-18b’s mass. Some computer models showed it to be even less. The minimum amount of hydrogen is about one-millionth by mass, which is similar to that of Earth’s atmosphere. Under those conditions, the atmosphere would be more like that of a super-Earth, rather than a mini-Neptune.

Moreover, a number of the calculated models would allow for a world with a true ocean, not just a layer of water that is under extreme, unearthly pressure and temperature. In this scenario, the temperature and pressure would actually be similar to those in Earth’s oceans.

There’s another intriguing twist to this, as well. While the researchers did confirm the atmosphere to be composed mostly of hydrogen, with quite a bit of water vapor, as already known, they also found something puzzling. The levels of methane (CH4) and ammonia (NH3) were less than expected. According to the paper, this is evidence of chemical disequilibrium – or non-equilibrium thermodynamics – in the atmosphere, and, maybe, could even point to biological activity as a cause:

Furthermore, our constraints on CH4 and NH3 suggest chemical disequilibrium. Among other possibilities for chemical disequilibrium, e.g., photochemistry, the potential influence of biochemical processes may not be entirely ruled out. Future observations, e.g., with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), will have the potential to refine our findings. We argue that planets such as K2-18b can indeed have the potential to approach habitable conditions and searches for biosignatures should not necessarily be restricted to smaller rocky planets.

On Earth, disequilibrium in the atmosphere – larger than normal amounts of oxygen and small amounts of methane – is caused by biological processes, and is a biosignature. For K2-18b however, it should be emphasized that this is just one of several possibilities, given that the planet is still much different from Earth in significant ways. As the paper stated, one other possibility is photochemistry; in this case, the chemical reactions in a planetary atmosphere caused by light or radiation from its star.

If these findings turn out to be accurate, that would greatly increase the number of potentially habitable planets out there, since worlds of this size are rather common.

This new paper is sure to cause some intense debate, much like last September when the water vapor detection was first reported, and most media outlets described K2-18b as a habitable super-Earth, which was misleading and premature.

Upcoming new space telescopes such as JWST and others will be able to analyze the atmospheres of planets like K2-18b and search for possible biosignatures, chemical signatures of life. That will help to determine whether any exoplanets like this, including super-Earths, could actually be habitable.

Scientists Just Uncovered Wild Details About How Our Modern Galaxy Formed

Some 10 billion years ago, the primitive Milky Way scarfed down a galaxy one-quarter of its own size, according to a new study.

The cannibalized galaxy, known as Gaia-Enceladus, helped to create the Milky Way (our home galaxy) and its digested remains contain clues about the origins and evolution of our cosmic surroundings.

Astronomers frequently observe mergers between distant galaxies, but it’s trickier to reconstruct the interactions that defined the modern Milky Way in part because we lack an outside perspective of our own galaxy. The Gaia spacecraft, launched by the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2013, has helped fill in some of these gaps by building the most precise star map ever produced.

The Gaia mission has made it easier to distinguish between stars that originated in the Milky Way, and those that were introduced by Gaia-Enceladus, which is named after the ESA mission. (It is also popularly known as the “Gaia Sausage” because of the sausage-shaped orbit some of its remnants follow around the galaxy’s core.)

The Milky Way’s ancient encounter with Gaia-Enceladus was first described in 2018, but new details about the smaller galaxy’s size, as well as the merger’s date, were published on Monday in Nature Astronomy.

Scientists led by Carme Gallart, an astronomer at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias in Spain, found that some stars observed by Gaia are lower in metal content than others. Smaller galaxies are typically not as enriched with metals as larger ones, which suggests that the metal-poor stars may have originated in the Gaia-Enceladus galaxy.

The Milky Way dates back at least 13 billion years, almost to the beginnings of the known universe. Back in those early days, the galaxy was smaller and had a different structure, so Gallart and her colleagues refer to this version as the “Milky Way progenitor,” or the “primitive Milky Way,” which was distinct from its modern incarnation.

The team’s simulations predicted that once the merger occurred, many of this progenitor’s stars—which were relatively metal-rich—became heated by the influx of new galactic material. Some of the stars were thrown from the galaxy’s disk into the halo, which is a spherical structure that surrounds the entire galaxy.

Gaia’s observations confirm that these metal-rich stars are strewn through the halo, and that they had an upper age limit of about 10 billion years, suggesting that this was when the merger took place.

“A primitive Milky Way had been forming stars over a period of some [three billion years] when a smaller galaxy, which had been forming stars on a similar timescale but was less chemically enriched owing to its lower mass, was accreted into it,” Gallart’s team said in the study.

“Our age determination reveals that the stars heated to halo-like kinematics were among the first formed in the Milky Way,” they added, “just before the merger with Gaia-Enceladus took place.”

It took another two-to-four billion years for the Milky Way to absorb the smaller galaxy, the team said, and the fallout of this collision continues to spur star formation to this day.

The modern version of the galaxy we live in contains multitudes, much of which has been consumed from outside the borders of its earliest form.

Our Galaxy Is Mysteriously Distorting and Nobody Knows Why

The Milky Way's edges are warping and distorting in strange ways. A new study suggests the latest possible answer: another galaxy is messing with us.

Something mysterious is tugging at the hem of our galaxy, the Milky Way, which is causing a “galactic warp” at its outer edges, according to a study published on Monday in Nature Astronomy.

The Milky Way contains an estimated 250 billion stars, which cluster in spiral arms that swirl around a central supermassive black hole. But astronomers have caught glimpses of a different dynamic occurring out in the far reaches of the Milky Way, where the galactic disk appears to become flared, wobbly, or otherwise distorted by a variety of potential phenomena.

To figure out what might be causing the Milky Way’s outer warping, a team led by Eloisa Poggio, an astrophysicist at the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics in Turin, measured the motions of 12 million giant stars observed by the European Space Agency’s Gaia space telescope.

“Our Milky Way presents a unique case study for galactic warps, thanks to detailed knowledge of its stellar distribution and kinematics,” Poggio’s team said in the study. “However, the cause and dynamic nature of the warp of our Galaxy have remained unclear due to a lack of kinematic constraints.”

In other words, scientists only began to model the Milky Way’s outer warping in detail within the past few years, due to advances in observational techniques. In 2019, for instance, a team created a captivating 3D map of the galactic warp based on measurements of 2,300 Cepheids variables, which are a special type of ultra-radiant stars (their results were published in Science )

Poggio and her colleagues have now built on these models thanks to the second major data dump from the Gaia satellite, which was released in 2018. Gaia has been constructing the most comprehensive catalog of the observable universe ever made since it was launched in 2013.

The sheer volume of observations enabled Poggio and her colleagues to measure the motions of millions of giant stars to trace out the kinematic signature of the galaxy’s warp. “We measured the speed of the warp by comparing the data with our models,” Poggio said in an ESA statement.

“Based on the obtained velocity, the warp would complete one rotation around the centre of the Milky Way in 600 to 700 million years,” she added. “That’s much faster than what we expected based on predictions from other models.”

While other teams have also used Gaia’s 2018 data to probe our galaxy’s edges, the new study aims to constrain “the possible mechanisms responsible for the warp of the Milky Way,” the team said. Suggested explanations for the warp have included longstanding torques emerging from mismatched axial motions of the disk and the galactic halo, or perhaps tidal forces from satellite galaxies of the Milky Way, which could gravitationally yank at the disk.

By modeling the motions of giant Gaia stars over time, Poggio’s team showed that the pull of a satellite galaxy is the most likely cause of the warp.

“The direction and magnitude of the warp’s precession rate favor the scenario that the warp is the result of a recent or ongoing encounter with a satellite galaxy, rather than the relic of the ancient assembly history of the galaxy,” the study says.

This finding might corroborate other recent studies that reconstruct the Milky Way’s turbulent past with nearby galaxies, which can skim material from the galaxies edges or cause disturbances by colliding with it.

It will take more observations and research to confirm that the warp is mostly caused by satellite galaxies. “Nevertheless,” the team said, “our results suggest that external forces from interacting satellite galaxies are playing an important and ongoing role in shaping the outer disk of the Milky Way.”

Sphere UFO During Sunset Over Porterville, CA Video, UFO Sighting News.

Here are two amazing videos of a black sphere UFO hovering over some homes in Porterville, CA a few weeks ago. The person recorded a sphere from 22 minutes away. Later he walked towards that area and realized it was hovering over some neighborhood homes, but no string, rope or advertising was noticeable. I made a screenshot (below) and enlarged it so that we could see its detail. The objects surface is not smooth, but sun like with ripples and waves to it. It reminds me of the UFO seen over Holy of holys, Dome of Rock Temple in Jerusalem. I will put that video below for you to compare shapes. It looks like this UFO is deeply interested in someone in one of those houses...they must be very important in some way for aliens to take notice.

22 minutes after the first video I walked closer to the suburbs to see if I could get a closer video of whatever it was. The object floated over the homes of my neighbors and moved a few times but stayed floating over a few houses. I thought it was a weather balloon at first but no strings were visible and it didn't move with the wind, as a balloon on a string would. Also, why would a weather balloon or advertisement float over suburban homes? I have no idea what it is.

Ancient Alien Face Seen From Space Station Camera! March 1, 2020, Video, UFO Sighting News.

I was watching the live NASA cams again, but instead of a UFO, I noticed two giant faces on the far left of the screen. The first fat look human like, the second looks bird like. They look like they were made by Van Gogh using powerful swirls of clouds to form them. NASA is using the infrared filter over the camera, making it purple in color. Infrared is known for cutting out reflections and revealing any cloaked objects in the area. That first face...just amazing guys. I believe it was made by an alien whose thoughts were so powerful that his telepathy accidentally created the form he was thinking about. Clouds and smoke is the most easy to move for telepathic people so this does make sense. And since many alien species out there are highly evolved, they will use pictures in their head...not word to communicate with others. Telepathic communication is the transmitting of pictures more...and not words. Just something amazing I wanted to share with you. Watch the video for more detail and to see the other bird face behind the first face.

Again huge formations of UFOs appeared on the ISS live feed on February 27 and March 1, 2020.

Using the ISS live feed they recorded a new group of these huge formations of UFOs flying on the bright side of the Earth.

Besides these large groups of UFOs, the greenish/yellow anomalies/crafts also still keep coming and they all coming from the same direction.

We may wonder where they come from and what could be the purpose of their arrival, maybe it has something to do with the Coronavirus outbreak?
