Tandis que New Horizon révèle que Pluton n'est pas aussi froid et inerte qu'on s'y s'attendait, la dernière décennie d'exploration spatiale a montré que plusieurs corps de notre système solaire pourraient être habitables, voire habités.
La recherche de vie extraterrestre est depuis longtemps synonyme de recherche d’eau liquide. Et pour cause : partout où il y a de l’eau liquide sur Terre, on trouve quasi-systématiquement de la vie. Ce principe a ainsi conduit les exobiologistes à lier la zone d’habitabilité des systèmes planétaires à l’éloignement de l’étoile : n’étaient habitables que les corps situés à une distance où l’énergie apportée par les radiations de l’étoile permettait le maintien d’une eau à l’état liquide. Ce qui, dans le système solaire correspond à une bande située entre les orbites de Vénus et celle de Mars.
Une planète rouge, aride mais remplie d’eau
Or, si l’on n’a pas trouvé la moindre trace d’humidité sur Vénus, les missions martiennes qui se sont succédées depuis le milieu des années 1990 ont apporté la preuve que la planète rouge regorge d’eau, que ce soit sous forme de glace, de vapeur ou de minéraux hydratés. « Si on combinait tous les dépôts de glace d’eau détectés à ce jour, ce qui inclut notamment la calotte de 1 000 kilomètres de diamètre qui recouvre le pôle Nord de Mars, note Franck Montmessin, directeur de recherche au Latmos1, on obtiendrait une masse d’eau équivalente à celle d’un océan global de 30 mètres environ de profondeur. » La découverte de formations géologiques similaires aux réseaux fluviaux terrestres indique que, par le passé, l’eau a abondamment coulé et que la planète a donc un jour été habitable, si ce n’est habitée. Malheureusement, aujourd’hui, on ne trouve plus d’eau liquide stable à la surface de Mars. En effet, la très faible pression atmosphérique martienne fait que la glace d’eau, quand elle fond, ne s’y transforme pas en liquide, mais se sublime directement en vapeur d’eau.

La piste du méthane
Les chercheurs n’ont toutefois pas abandonné la traque aux indices d’une vie martienne, présente ou passée. Surtout depuis que plusieurs équipes indépendantes ont détecté des bouffées de méthane dans l’atmosphère martienne. Or, si la présence de méthane est souvent liée à une activité biologique, elle peut aussi résulter de processus géophysiques comme le volcanisme. La sensibilité des appareils actuels ne permet pas pour l’instant de déterminer l’origine de ce gaz. « L’orbiteur de la mission européenne ExoMars-2016 sera équipé de deux spectromètres qui augmenteront les seuils de sensibilité d’un facteur 10 à 100, précise Franck Montmessin. Ils permettront d’établir un premier inventaire détaillé des gaz présents dans l’atmosphère martienne, ce qui pourra apporter des éléments pour contraindre les hypothèses sur l’origine du méthane détecté. » Les rovers des missions ExoMars-2018 et Mars 2020 se chargeront ensuite de creuser le sol et d’analyser des roches vieilles de plus de 3 milliards d’années, quand la planète disposait d’une atmosphère bien plus dense, qu’elle connaissait alors une activité volcanique importante et que l’eau liquide y abondait et y persistait. Avec l’espoir d’y trouver les traces d’une chimie prébiotique, voire d’une activité biologique.

De la vie sous la glace ?
Parallèlement aux efforts déployés pour autopsier notre voisine, les données collectées par les sondes Galileo et Cassini ont montré que Mars n’était peut-être pas le seul corps du système solaire à avoir pu abriter une vie extraterrestre. « De récentes découvertes sur les lunes de Jupiter et de Saturne ont complètement remis en cause nos notions d’habitabilité, avoue Athéna Coustenis, planétologue et directrice de recherche au Lésia2. Les effets de marée qu’exercent les géantes gazeuses sur leurs lunes glacées leur procurent une source d’énergie constante qui entretient leur activité géologique et permet l’existence d’océans liquides sous la glace ; ce qui les rend potentiellement habitables. » Rien qu’autour de Jupiter, si Europe apparaît comme la candidate la plus prometteuse, avec son océan de 100 kilomètres de profondeur, Callisto pourrait, elle aussi, cacher un océan sous une épaisse couche de glace. Quant à Ganymède, le plus gros satellite du système solaire, on le soupçonne d’être recouvert d’un millefeuille alternant couches glacées et liquides.

C’est dans ce contexte que l’Agence spatiale européenne (ESA) a validé, en novembre dernier, la mission Juice (Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer), la première grande mission du programme Cosmic Vision 2015-2025. « Juice permettra, entre autres, de déterminer l’habitabilité des satellites de Jupiter : Europa, Ganymède et Callisto, explique Athéna Coustenis. L’orbiteur emportera une dizaine d’instruments, certains dévellopés par des équipes du CNRS, destinés à l’étude de l’atmosphère et de la magnétosphère jovienne ainsi qu’à la caractérisation de ces lunes, de leur exosphère et de leur océan enfoui sous la glace. » Le lancement est prévu en 2022, pour une mise en orbite autour de Ganymède en 2030, juste après avoir survolé Europe à deux reprises.

Several impressive photos of alleged UFOs over the arctic captured on camera by the Navy in 1971 have been leaked to UFO researchers, and their discovery has been getting worldwide media attention.
UFO researcher Alex Mistretta claims that the images were originally given to him by an anonymous source in Europe. Later, he discovered that they were also published in a French paranormal magazine called Top Secret.

To further investigate, Mistretta enlisted the help of John Greenewald, who runs the website TheBlackVault.com. He asked Greenewald to post the pictures in hopes that Greenewald and others may be able to find out more about the images.
After posting the story last week, it began getting international headlines. A Reddit user that goes by the name SqizCat was also able to find higher resolution copies of the images.
The images are fantastic. They seem to be of large objects aloft over the ocean, some, if not all, taken from the periscope of a submarine. The big question is are they real, and if so, what are they?

In his email to The Black Vault, Mistretta listed what his anonymous source told him.
The photos were taken from a United State Navy submarine.
The location was between Iceland and Jan Mayen island in the Atlantic Ocean. (Jan Mayen belongs to Norway, and is only inhabited by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute and the Norwegian military.)
They were taken in March of 1971.
The Submarine was the Navy’s USS Trepang (SSN 674) and the Admiral on board was Dean Reynolds Sackett. Obviously, the next step is to try and locate this Admiral Dean Reynolds, if he exists.
The Submarine came upon the object by “accident,” as they were in the region on a routine joint military and scientific expedition. Officer John Klika was the one who initially spotted the object with the periscope.
Greenewald looked into these claims and he says that he found that Admiral Sackett was onboard the USS Trepang at the time listed. He also found that Officer Kilka was also aboard. Further, he found that the USS Trepang was in the area the source claimed at the time the pictures were allegedly taken.

Mistretta wrote: “[Kilka] found the investigation interesting reading, and doesn’t know what the pictures represent. I believe them. I feel confident in saying the Trepang was not involved in the taking of the photographs.”
Although Mistretta now believes his source’s information to be inaccurate, Greenewald found clues that indicate the images may still be real, albeit not extraterrestrial.
Greenewald says, “When I first saw these, I noted there was something very Zeppelin-like about some of the photos, but, unlike the actual Zeppelin’s, it did not have a carrier for the occupants.”
By researching the USS Trepang’s whereabouts, he also found this on the site Hullnumber.com: “From 22 February to 22 March [1971], the nuclear attack submarine operated beneath the northern ice cap, conducting extensive tests to provide data for her weapons systems, as well as carrying out scientific experiments concerning the movement, composition, and geological history of the cap itself.”
This lead him to research test balloons. He searched the Library of Congress and found images of test balloons that look very similar to what is in some of the images.

Greenewald’s discovery makes it possible, if not likely, that the images are from test balloons being fired upon by Navy submarines. The images he found were from the early 1900s, so the question remains as to whether similar balloons were still being used in the 70s, or are the images colorized version of much older pictures. Given the misinformation that accompanied the images in the first place, it is also possible they are Photoshopped hoaxes.
Although the media has picked up on the story, few, if any, have mentioned the investigation work done by Mistretta, Greenewald, and Murillo. By leaving out this part of the story, they leave out the fact that many UFO researchers are more than just wild-eyed believers, as the media often portrays. Some are actually doing all they can to look for the truth.

New close-up images of a region near Pluto’s equator reveal a giant surprise: a range of youthful mountains rising as high as 11,000 feet (3,500 meters) above the surface of the icy body.
The mountains likely formed no more than 100 million years ago — mere youngsters relative to the 4.56-billion-year age of the solar system — and may still be in the process of building, says Geology, Geophysics and Imaging (GGI) team leader Jeff Moore of NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California.. That suggests the close-up region, which covers less than one percent of Pluto’s surface, may still be geologically active today.
Moore and his colleagues base the youthful age estimate on the lack of craters in this scene. Like the rest of Pluto, this region would presumably have been pummeled by space debris for billions of years and would have once been heavily cratered — unless recent activity had given the region a facelift, erasing those pockmarks.
“This is one of the youngest surfaces we’ve ever seen in the solar system,” says Moore.
Unlike the icy moons of giant planets, Pluto cannot be heated by gravitational interactions with a much larger planetary body. Some other process must be generating the mountainous landscape.
“This may cause us to rethink what powers geological activity on many other icy worlds,” says GGI deputy team leader John Spencer of the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colo.
The mountains are probably composed of Pluto’s water-ice “bedrock.”
Although methane and nitrogen ice covers much of the surface of Pluto, these materials are not strong enough to build the mountains. Instead, a stiffer material, most likely water-ice, created the peaks. “At Pluto’s temperatures, water-ice behaves more like rock,” said deputy GGI lead Bill McKinnon of Washington University, St. Louis.
The close-up image was taken about 1.5 hours before New Horizons closest approach to Pluto, when the craft was 47,800 miles (77,000 kilometers) from the surface of the planet. The image easily resolves structures smaller than a mile across.

NASA and the team behind its New Horizons spacecraft announced today that Pluto — the dwarf planet — has a giant tail.
It’s not a physical tail like a dog’s, of course, but rather a frigid cloud of ionized gases trailing an estimated 48,000 to 68,000 miles behind Pluto, according to a NASA press release.
This giant tail is actually part of Pluto’s atmosphere. Except that the bits of atmosphere are being stripped away by solar wind, a torrent of electrically charged particles that constantly pours out of the sun in all directions.
“We see the atmosphere way far out,” Randy Gladstone, a New Horizons coinvestigator at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, said during a NASA press conference on Friday. “We see it from the ground out to 1,000 miles above the surface.”
Because Pluto is such a tiny planet — it’s a fraction of a percent as massive as the Earth — its atmosphere escapes directly into space, Gladstone said.
Gladstone and others discovered the tail after examining data from the Solar Wind Around Pluto (SWAP) instrument on the New Horizons spacecraft. The device found an anomaly in the solar wind around the dwarf planet: A depression composed of nitrogen ions. This depression is the tail, and it extends an unknown length behind the planet.
“We have actually flown through this [tail],” Fran Bagenal, a New Horizons coinvestigator from the University of Colorado at Boulder, said during the press conference.
Ionized gas forms when a bunch of energy pummels atmospheric atoms and molecules. This bombardment pops electrons off the atmospheric gas particles, allowing their electrons to freely circulate. The end result is plasma: A fourth state of matter after solids, liquids, and gases.
As far as we know, plasma is the most common state of matter in the universe. There’s simply a lot of energy pouring out of stars, and a lot of gas in space to form plasma. So while it might seem surprising, plasma tails like Pluto’s aren’t new. They even exist behind other planets in the solar system, including Venus and Mars.
The team still hasn’t determined the precise shape of Pluto’s newly discovered tail. They also don’t know exactly how the was formed.
So NASA is anxiously waiting for New Horizons to beam back more data. By August the team hopes to calculate how fast Pluto is losing its atmosphere to space — and, likewise, how quickly the icy world is shrinking.

VANCOUVER, BC – U.S. President Barack Obama was publicly called out on Extraterrestrials landing in a base under or around the White House during this NewsInsideOut.com interview with African-American veteran Wilbur “Will” Allen, a former White House employee and Air Force One engineer under U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton.
“Obama denies that Extraterrestrials exist,” Will Allen states. “Yet I have precision photographs of extraterrestrial craft coming in to land at an extraterrestrial base under or around the White House underneath the Potomac River.”
By contrast, an official statement on the White House website notes, “The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race. In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public’s eye.”[1]
In any honest court of law, to sponsor such an official misstatement of fact on the White House website would amount to perjury or willful misconduct by the Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. Government.
ET/UFOs fire ray of light or directed energy beam next to White House
President Obama continues officially (and personally) to deny that that he lacks evidence of extraterrestrial life. In July 2010 I reported that White House and Air Force One engineer Will Allen had produced photographs of a hyperdimensional Extraterrestrial space craft in over flight approximately one mile south east of the White House in Washington, DC. The ET craft appears to have fired a ray of light or directed energy beam in the vicinity of the White House.[2]
Mr. Allen stated, “On July 20, 2010 at 3:18:07 AM in NW Washington DC, a relatively short distance from the White House, I imaged a slow moving UFO pulse through the sky, and then [observed the UFO] fire an energy beam which extended from it.” Mr. Allan also states, “I took several stationary images of the stars as I usually do. However, there is one object I thought to be a star, moving and then discharging a beam of light!!!…. There is one frame that does not make much sense? A Star is either moving or shooting a beam of light that is ‘bent’? The motion is not registered with any of the other ‘stars’ in this sampling.”
On July 26, 2010, Mr. Allen sent a video to this reporter and added, “In the ten frames of images [in the video below] are other objects. First are the echoes of the luminous anomaly slightly in front of this object in tandem flight and maneuver. What the luminous anomaly did so did the echoes except they did not discharge a plasma beam? Secondly, it was in pursuit of another object(s). In my analysis, I discovered a luminous red object in flight, however in pursuit of energy distortion, which I have imaged may times, because it follows me? However, in the ten frames the objects mentioned all are perhaps in a tactical posture. Please take a look, the physical data does indeed show ET engagement, and the anomaly is discharging a tactical device. Ironic, it echoes the hyperdimensional UFOs on July 16, 1952/July 16, 2002/July 4, 2002/July 4, 2010/July 20, 2010, Analysis B (quadrant analysis) July 20, 2010.”
Will Allen, the Go-To Photographer of ET spacecraft overflying Washington, DC
Mr. Allen, who grew up on U.S. military bases and now resides in Washington, DC, has stated that at age five he was visited by a group of “four to five grey extraterrestrials in silver spacesuits” who implanted him with a device.
That implant device went undetected during all the years of his military and White House service, and now signals him to go to specific locations in Washington, DC where he is instructed to photograph extraterrestrial craft and personnel that enter P-56A restricted Capitol Hill airspace through hyperdimensional Star gates at extremely high speeds. Mr. Allen, who has reported some of these UFO/ET landings to the U.S. Capitol Police, states that the police have told him his photographs confirm ET/UFO landings their officers are also encountering.
Mr. Allen believes that his photographs, which are forensic in quality, document that the same intelligent hyperdimensional civilization was behind the July 16, 1952 and the July 16, 2002 flyovers of the U.S. Capitol. These UFO/ET flyovers are continuing into the present. Mr. Allen states that the civilization communicating with him and directing his photographic documentation of their hypervelocity landings on the U.S. Capitol are “grey and human-hybrid.” There is no independent evidence that the intelligent civilization behind the hyperdimensional UFOs appearing to Mr. Allen is grey of human-hybrid.
Through advanced photo-analysis, Mr. Allen has established dimensional similarities between the UFO phenomena (1) surrounding the 1944 “Foo Fighters;” (2) the UFO/ET phenomena filmed by the Walt Disney company at the Lincoln Memorial on July 26, 1952; (3) the UFO/ET phenomena overlying the U.S. Capitol on July 16, 1952 (and during the July 13-29, 1952 Washington, DC UFO flap); (4) the UFO/ET phenomena over flying the U.S. Capitol 50 years later on July 16, 2002; (5) the UFO/ET phenomena appearing over the Washington Monument (Washington, DC) on July 4, 2002; (6) (5) ET/UFO phenomena photographed at the U.S. Capitol on November 17, 2008; (7) The UFO/ET phenomenon photographed as reflected on Commander Buzz Aldrin’s visor as he walked on the Moon during Apollo 16 (April 21-24, 1972).
According to Mr. Allen’s photo-analysis, each of the UFO/ET phenomena mentioned above was capable of dimensional shift into a self-generated Star gate phenomenon
UFO ‘Ray of Light’ near the White House
It is not unreasonable to ascribe intentionality to the hyperdimensional UFO that performed a dimensional shift into a self-generated Star gate phenomenon and entered Washington DC airspace one mile south east of the White House, emitting a ray of light or directed energy beam.
Mr. Allen appears to be a selected ‘go to’ photographer’ for these advanced hyperdimensional UFO incursion events in Washington DC that have high symbolic value.
For example, Mr. Allen – on cue from hyperdimensional intelligence – photographed hyperdimensional UFOs over the U.S. Capitol in July 2002, 50 years exactly from July 1952 UFO over flights of the U.S. Capitol. Mr. Allan states that, in his opinion, the same hyperdimensional extraterrestrial civilization was responsible for both events.

Dr. Greer states: ” An attorney working with Mr. Podesta requested the briefing and we assembled an extensive file for Mr. Podesta to provide to the newly- elected President Obama. There was also support for this process from a senior CIA official who is friendly to Disclosure and the briefing was also provided to then-CIA Director Leon Panetta . Mr. Podesta came out publicly in support of Disclosure the year after the historic 2001 National Press Club Disclosure Project event, organized by Dr. Greer.
Dr. Greer continues, ” We are encouraged that Mr. Podesta remains a stalwart supporter of Disclosure and we continue to advocate for the release of illegally classified information and technology related to UFOs.” [3]
The extensive role of Laurance Rockefeller, assisted by Rockefeller asset Dr. Steven Greer and Adviser/operative John Podesta, in scripting and launching the “Disclosure movement” around First Lady Hillary Clinton during the First Clinton administration, nursing the “Disclosure movement” during the Bush and Obama years, and now positioning to “Disclosure Initiation Stage” around the Hillary Clinton Presidency [or perhaps a false flag around the Barack Obama-Pope Francis connection?] is treated in a humorous, albeit telling way in the following documentary.

In the world of “meme management”, the meme of “ET Disclosure” apparently differs from “Life on Mars”.
That is, the Rockefeller-CIA-Trilateralist interests want to control the information that is being “disclosed” so as to maximize control over the human population so they can continue as an elite to exploit them.
The Rockefeller interests want to keep the Life on Mars information secret, because that means resources and wealth owned by them. Hence the Rockefeller Disclosure organizer, Stephen Bassett, could not allow of the Mars witnesses to testify.
As a reporter, I even contacted a former US Senator from Alaska who was on the Citizen Hearing Panel beforehand who I had been on a PressTV Panel with. I informed the US Senator that US Life on Mars witnesses, highly trained personnel who had been on Mars multiple times and interacted with Martians, were being excluded. The U.S. Senator acknowledged the information and did nothing. So when asked in a media context, I stated that the U.S. Congress Persons had each been bribed with $20,000. They had been literally functionally been bribed to stay silent about a class of witnesses and extraterrestrials from our nearest neighbor Mars, all because of the Rockefeller family that is sculpting this “ET Disclosure” meme for their and other controllers benefit.[6]

U.S. President Barack Obama engaged in a “humor” strategy earlier in 2015 when asked about the Extraterrestrial presence on Jimmy Kimmel Live, acting oblivious that Extraterrestrial spacecraft are landing at a base adjacent to the White House and atop the U.S. Capitol and Congressional buildings (which are the highest U.S. national security air space). The LA Times reported:
[Kimmel] wanted to know whether Obama had tried to get to the bottom of the “UFO files” about the mysterious desert region known as Area 51.
“The aliens won’t let it happen,” Obama joked. “You’d reveal all their secrets. They exercise strict control over us.”
But President Clinton once said he’d checked on the matter and found nothing, Kimmel protested. “That’s what we’re instructed to say,” Obama responded.
The above is typical of the deception that Mr. Obama, a facile actor and comedian, is engaging in.

Hundreds of years have passed since the time Galileo confirmed that the planet Earth doesn’t form the center of the universe. A long time has gone by even since the Hubble Space Telescope came up with evidence confirming that the universe is home to billions of other galaxies besides our home galaxy Milky Way. We might see scientists making another such ground-breaking discovery within the next fifteen years.
For the first time, space scientists have proposed a new technology capable of aiding discovery of life on Earth-like planets. It’s a powerful telescope that’s still in its conceptual stages.
The scientists are planning to place the telescope over 1 million miles away from the Earth, from where it will be locating and capturing high definition images of Earth-like planets or exoplanets and thereby find out whether any of them hosts life.
The AURA report detailed the High Definition Space Telescope’s potential technological advancements as compared to its predecessors. The Hubble Telescope and the James Webb Space Telescope mirrors were much smaller than that of what the HDSP could have.
Astrophysicist Mario Livio, a representative of the Space telescope Science Institute, said that he feels finding life beyond earth would constitute a bigger revolution than the Darwinian and Copernican revolutions combined.
He added that this new technology will either show that there’s indeed life in several other places besides our home planet, or will reveal that life is extremely rare and is even more valuable than what we perceive it to be. According to Livio, both these findings have far-fetched implications.
This newly proposed high-definition telescope will actually be refining work that has already been completed by the Kepler mission.
For those who don’t know: NASA launched its Kepler space observatory in 2009. It was designed for locating Earth-like planets within the boundaries of our home Galaxy Milky Way. Here, the term “Earth-like planets” refers to planets that orbit other stars in the same manner as the Earth orbits the sun.
In the past six years i.e. since the launch of the Kepler space observatory, we have come to know about almost 2,000 exoplanets. However, scientists have not succeeded in obtaining a clear view of the majority of those planets. The high-definition space telescope proposed by scientists will be solving this problem effectively.
The new telescope, other than locating exoplanets orbiting different stars will also be able to dim down the powerful light emitted by those stars. This will make the exoplanets visible enough to allow scientists get a clear view of their atmosphere.

While searching for Earth-like planets, NASA’s Kepler spacecraft has come across 10 that share one very un-Earth-like quality: They orbit two stars, instead of one. The worlds are aptly named “circumbinary planets” (“circum” meaning around, and “binary” referring to two objects), and in this type of binary system, the two stars orbit each other while the planet orbits the two stars (pictured above). But only the lucky binaries seem to have planets that orbit them; some stellar binaries that lack orbiting bodies have a different third party—a distant star that’s so massive, its gravitational fluxes actually change the orbit of the stellar binary, causing the two stars to shrink together in a process called orbital decay.
If left uninterrupted, the stars will eventually collide together in a violent, calamitous explosion. Now, astronomers have asked a new question: What would happen if a circumbinary planet were in the mix? Naturally, one assumes its inevitable, fiery demise. But findings, published online 9 July in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, reveal that may not be the case. Using a combination of theoretical and numerical formulas, astronomers calculated that the planet may actually be able to survive the blast.
The difference between life and death depends on that third, distant body. The researchers mathematically showed that the same mechanism that forces the binary together shifts the alignment of the circumbinary planet, potentially allowing it to sneak far enough away to escape incineration. Even so, surviving without a home base is a bit of a lonely swap.
Astronomy is weird. Everything we study is really, really far away. So far away really, that for most of history we didn’t know how far away they were. It was impossible to measure.
But then some Greeks decided to figure out how big the Earth is, and then how far away the Moon is, and the Sun, and before you know it (well, a few thousand years later) we’re measuring the distances to objects clear across the known Universe!

I really enjoyed writing this and the past few episodes, because they lay the groundwork we’ll need for all the rest. Using what we know about light and about distances, the Universe unfolds before us. In the episodes coming up, we’ll leave the solar system behind and start to examine the cosmos around us.

Ufology is full of whistleblowers. There’s the one who worked on the alien spaceship at Area 51, the one who was involved in a gunfight with extraterrestrials, the one who rescued an alien and was able to send him back home, and the one who went on an exchange trip to an alien planet. Then there’s the one who did an interview in a hotel room, and the one who did an interview in a darkened room, so as to disguise his identity. Oh, and let’s not forget the one who was assassinated by the government. Ufology is full of whistleblowers, right? Wrong! Ufology is not full of whistleblowers. Ufology is full of bogus whistleblowers.
At first sight, this may strike some people as being overly-harsh. You might be thinking about leaked government UFO documents that you’ve read, and recalling UFO documentaries or conferences where some of these whistleblowers have appeared. Surely, you might say, a fair proportion of what we know about UFOs comes from various courageous whistleblowers who have taken the decision to violate their secrecy oaths, because they believe they have a higher moral responsibility to the truth. The people have a right to know, as the saying goes. It all sounds great in theory, but the truth is somewhat different, and can be easily demonstrated with a bit of critical thinking.
Ask yourself what happens – outside the field of ufology – to people who leak highly classified information. I’m not talking about traitors who pass classified information to foreign powers, but people who have made such information public, citing the public’s right to know. Some well-known names spring to mind: Former CIA employee Edward Snowden and US Army intelligence specialist Chelsea Manning are two such people. In the UK, ex-MI5 officer David Shayler and former MI6 employee Richard Tomlinson are good examples. There are others. Now, ask yourself, what did the government do in all of those cases? The answer is this: they went after the individuals concerned, proactively, aggressively and relentlessly, using the full resources available to them. And no, I don’t mean they tried to kill them, I mean that where the state was able to do so, the full weight of the criminal justice system (police, prosecutors, courts, etc.) was brought to bear upon them. In real life, that’s what happens to people who leak classified information. So why doesn’t this happen with ufology’s whistleblowers? Why would the government leave such people alone?
The answer is obvious. Ufology’s so-called whistleblowers aren’t leaking classified information at all. They’re making up stories. If any of these people were genuinely leaking classified information they’d be arrested in an instant. I know this not because of my time on the MoD’s UFO project, but because of a later job that I did in the Directorate of Defence Security, where I had some peripheral involvement with Official Secrets Act cases. That, along with my 21 years in a government department where top secret information is commonplace, taught me a lot about the reality of how allegations of security breaches are handled.
Incidentally, at risk of being labelled a government lackey, I don’t approve of whistleblowers anyway, even genuine ones. That’s because such people leak information after deciding that they know better than anyone else whether or not something should be released. However, what I’ve learned from my own work on classified information is that the information owner – usually the subject matter expert – is best-placed to make judgements on whether or not something can safely be declassified. So it’s a mistake for someone else to see such documents pass across their desk and, without knowing the full story, decide for themselves that something should be public knowledge. It’s arrogant and ignorant. That’s not to say that there’s no place for responsible whistleblowing in a free, open and democratic society, but that’s a discussion for another day.
Returning to UFOs and whistleblowing, what of the verifiable government and military personnel who have spoken out about UFOs? People like Edward Ruppelt, Dr. J. Allen Hynek, myself, Dr. John Alexander, Charles Halt, John Burroughs, Jim Penniston and others? The key point is, they’re not whistleblowers. Such people fall into two categories. Witnesses such as Halt, Burroughs and Penniston are simply describing experiences they’ve had. Unless someone specifically instructed them not to talk about things, they aren’t divulging classified information by describing what they saw and experienced. When I collaborated with Burroughs and Penniston on the bestselling book “Encounter in Rendlesham Forest”, the manuscript was pre-submitted to both the UK MoD and the US DOD, because we treat our respective secrecy oaths seriously. When Charles Halt is asked about nuclear issues, he declines to comment, neither confirming nor denying the presence of nuclear weapons in any particular location at any particular time (I answer such questions in exactly the same way). As for those of us who aren’t witnesses, but who have genuinely investigated UFOs for the government, we take our secrecy oaths seriously too, and would never release classified information without proper authorisation. We’re not whistleblowers either. When people see me on TV talking about the MoD’s UFO files, I’m discussing material that’s already been declassified and released by the British Government.
This brings me to the final irony concerning people in ufology who claim to have inside knowledge about secret government UFO projects. You know the ones I mean. The ones making fantastic but totally unverifiable claims about vast underground bases, secret exchange deals between Presidents and extraterrestrials, moon bases, Mars colonies, and much more besides. Such people are absolutely certain about UFOs, extraterrestrials, etc. They’ll give you chapter and verse on anything from UFO propulsion systems and alien agendas, through to the geography of various alien planets. This mirrors the way that many ufologists at the extreme ends of the belief spectrum (i.e. the most devout true believers and die-hard debunkers) are absolutely certain about the true nature of the UFO phenomenon. And here’s the ultimate irony: those of us who have genuinely researched and investigated the UFO mystery for the government are much less sure about things!

Mysterious crop circles have been spotted in wheat fields across the world for decades. With no witnesses to see them being made and reports of strange glowing lights hovering above them, could crop circles be the proof that aliens exist?

The public rarely hears about interactions between military personnel and unexplained aircraft — especially during wartime.
As time goes on, however, UFO stories stuck behind red tape begin to see the light of day. The Vietnam War saw its share of UFO activity in the 1960s.
One close encounter, in 1968, involved the crew of an American patrol boat that reported two glowing circular craft following them in the demilitarized zone that separated North and South Vietnam (see depiction below).
The crew aboard a second patrol boat later reported seeing the UFOs over the first boat and a flash of light, followed by an explosion that completely destroyed the boat. These Vietnam reports included close observation of the unknown aerial craft which appeared to house pilots (see recreation image at the top of this story).
Wartime UFO stories are recreated in the premiere episode of the second season of History’s “Hangar 1: The UFO Files.” The accounts are drawn from tens of thousands of UFO cases in the archives of the Mutual UFO Network, the world’s largest UFO investigation group.
“The military was interested in [UFOs] because they had capabilities far above anything that we had, and they wanted to find out what the technology was and, frankly, who they belonged to,” according to former Air Force intelligence officer, Capt. George Filer.
While in Vietnam, Filer — who had a top secret clearance — gave daily briefings to Gen. George S. Brown, deputy commander for air operations in Vietnam.
“Frequently, the Vietcong or North Vietnamese would be attacking an outpost and I would explain that, and we would have ground-air support, particularly at night where we’d go in there with these gun ships, and I would give briefings on all of that,” Filer told The Huffington Post. “Some of the time, there would be unidentified craft over the DMZ.”
Filer described a typical report that he’d receive and which he included in his briefings to Brown:
“You’d have an aircraft flying along, doing around 500 knots and a UFO comes alongside and does some barrel rolls around the aircraft and then flies off at three times the speed of one of the fastest jets we have in the Air Force. So, obviously, it has a technology far in advance of anything we have.
“I would be told this unofficially. People tell you a lot of things that they don’t put in writing or sign their name to. There was always this part of UFOs that, if you got too interested, it could mess up your career. And this is true today even with commercial pilots. I’ve also heard from people serving in Afghanistan saying they’ve seen UFOs, and the Iranian news carries UFO reports pretty regularly.”
During a 1973 press conference, five years after the patrol boat UFO encounters, Brown — as USAF chief of staff — was asked about the Air Force’s position on UFOs:
I don’t know whether this story has ever been told or not. They weren’t called UFOs. The were called enemy helicopters. And they were only seen at night and they were only seen in certain places. They were seen up around the DMZ in the early summer of ’68. And this resulted in quite a little battle.
And in the course of this, an Australian destroyer took a hit and we never found any enemy, we only found ourselves when this had all been sorted out. And this caused some shooting there, and there was no enemy at all involved, but we always reacted.
Always after dark, the same thing happened up at Pleiku at the Highlands in ’69.
Many stories about battling UFOs have emerged throughout history.
One early account of UFO warfare was supposedly seen by the citizens of Nuremberg, Germany, in 1561. On a morning in April, the Nuremberg Gazette reportedly described an aerial battle between large “cylindrical shapes from which emerged black, red, orange and blue-white spheres that darted about… All these elements started to fight one against the other.” An artist, Hans Glaser, created a woodcut of the spectacle, seen below:
During World War II, also in Germany, Allied aircraft pilots often reported mysterious glowing, fast-moving, circular lights, which were dubbed Foo Fighters. The New York Times reported it as “military slang for flying saucers.”
Filer — who documents his sightings and other UFO news at the National UFO Center site — was one of several military eyewitnesses to something extraordinary in the sky over England. It was 1962, and he was the navigator on a refueling tanker.
“We were out over the North Sea when London Control called and asked if we would be willing to intercept an unidentified that was over Oxford and the Stonehenge area. We had just finished up our refueling mission, so we said sure, and they cleared all the traffic around us and gave us top priority as we descended towards the UFO. All they really had was a very large radar return, but it was much bigger than a normal aircraft.”
Filer (pictured at right) recalled how his radar scope indicated the UFO was as big as the huge Firth of Forth Bridge in Scotland that he and his crew often used as a regular navigation point.
“The ‘thing’ was at 1,000 feet and we were descending from 32,000 feet. We picked up this huge radar return while we were still about 30 miles out. It was dark out and when we got much closer to the object, we saw lights around it, outlining the shape of a cylinder, like a cruise ship. It then just quickly rose and went up into space.
“We were pretty sure we’d just seen a UFO.”
Filer also told HuffPost that he has heard from air traffic controllers who claimed they were told to “always divert aircraft away from UFOs and deny that it existed. I think they want this whole situation to go away, and I think [the policy] is coming from the National Security Council — they’re at the highest level. It sounds funny, but presidents don’t always know what their National Security Council is doing.”
Upcoming episodes of “Hangar 1″ over the next 12 weeks will focus on folks who’ve held military positions and are willing to come forward and tell their stories.
One of those (hold onto your hats) is a man who claims he was in the Marines (wait for it…) and that he was stationed on Mars for several years. That’s right: the red planet Mars. He’ll describe being part of an off-planet military force. Let’s not pass judgment…yet.
There’s also the story of a retired Army sergeant who says he was assigned to UFO crash and retrieval cases where both ships and ET bodies were supposedly recovered — some dead, some alive.
In case you were wondering, Hangar 1 is an actual hangar where MUFON, for a long time, stored all of its archives. At one point, all of the organization’s files were housed in this airport hangar somewhere in the middle of the country. The images of Hangar 1 that appear in the series are of the real hangar.
The guy who left his wife, quit his job, and sold his house to literally move into a van down by the river and spend 25 years hunting the Loch Ness Monster claims he finally solved the mystery that’s captivated dumb tourists and conspiracy theorists for centuries, Reuters reports. Nessie, he claims, is actually just a really, really big catfish.
“I have to be honest. I just don’t think that Nessie is a prehistoric monster,” Steve Feltham told the Times on Thursday. “What a lot of people have reported seeing would fit in with the description of the catfish with its long curved back.”
The real-life river beast he’s describing, a Wels catfish, can grow up to 13 feet long, and looks like it could swallow a human being whole like the Roach in Men in Black. Feltham says that Victorians threw a couple catfish into Loch Ness about a century ago just for the hell of it, and they’ve been haunting the lake ever since.
Feltham’s lifelong saga hunting Nessie—and winning him a Guinness World Record in the process—is mapped out on his website. The “about me” page is strangely beautiful, in a weird, sad sort of way.
“If you have a dream, no matter how harebrained others think it is, then it is worth trying to make it come true,” he writes. “Have I ever regretted my decision? Never, not for one second.”

Witnesses who have encountered UFOs have also experienced physiological aftereffects, including x-ray vision and telepathy. Popularized by the 1984 film, a bizarre low-budget sequel, and a 2012 Syfy channel movie, tales of the Philadelphia Experiment involves covert U.S. Navy operations that led to time travel, teleportation, and mangled flesh.
According to urban legends, two separate and completely different Philadelphia Experiments took place. Both, however, involved the same vessel, the USS Eldridge. What happened in each of these alleged experiments, and what evidence is there to support the rumors?
Two separate sets of bizarre events make up the “Philadelphia Experiment.” Both revolve around a Navy Destroyer escort, the USS Eldridge, with the events taking place on two separate days in the summer and fall of 1943.
In the first experiment, an alleged method of electrical field manipulation allowed the USS Eldridge to be rendered invisible on July 22, 1943 in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. The second rumored experiment was the teleportation and small-scale time travel (with the ship sent a few seconds in the past) of the USS Eldridge from the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard to Norfolk, Virginia, on October 28, 1943.
Horrible tales of mangled seamen and sailors stuck within the metal of the USS Eldridge often accompany this experiment, with theUSS Eldrige reappearing seconds later in the waters around Philadelphia. Recitation of the events surrounding the second Philadelphia Experiment often include a cargo and troop transport vessel, the SS Andrew Furuseth. The lore of the second experiment claims those on board the Andew Furuseth viewed the USS Eldridge and it’s crew as they teleported into Norforlk momentarily before the ship returned to the waters of Philadelphia.
Prior to the mid-1950s, no rumors of bizarre activity surrounded any teleportation or invisibility experiments in North America during the 1940s, let alone in the area surrounding Philadelphia.
Carl Meredith Allen, using the alias Carlos Miguel Allende, sent a series of letters to astronomer and writer Morris K. Jessup. Jessup authored several early UFO books including the mildly successful The Case For The UFO. Allen claimed to be on the SS Andrew Furuseth during the second experiment, witnessing the USS Eldridge emerge in the waters of Norfolk and quickly disappear into thin air.
Carl Allen supplied no proof to verify what he claimed to witness on October 28, 1943. He did win the mind of Morris Jessup, who began to champion Allen’s view of the Philadelphia Experiment. Jessup, however, died four years after his first contact with Allen from an apparent suicide.
Moving a ship weighing several thousands tons leaves an inevitable paper trail. On the date of the Philadelphia “Invisibility” Experiment, July 22, 1943, the USS Eldridge had yet to be commissioned. The USS Eldridge spent the day of the alleged teleportation experiments, October 28, 1943, safely within a New York harbor, waiting to escort a naval convoy to Casablanca. The SS Andrew Norfolk spent October 28, 1943, sailing across the Atlantic Ocean en route to the Mediterranean port city of Oran, further discrediting Carl Allen’s comments.
And in the early 1940s, the Navy did conduct experiments to make naval vessels “invisible” in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyards, but in a different manner and with a completely different set of desired results.
In these experiments, researchers ran an electric current through hundreds of meters of electrical cable around the hull of a ship to see if they could make the ships “invisible” to underwater and surface mines. Germany deployed magnetic mines in naval theatres — mines that would latch on to the metal hull of ships as they came near. In theory, this system would make the ships invisible to the magnetic properties of the mines.
Sixty years later, we are left without a shred of credible evidence for the Philadelphia Experiment(s), yet rumors persist. If you are still unconvinced, think of the situation from a different viewpoint. No incident, regardless of the horrific nature, would stall development of teleportation technology if the military believed it feasible. Such a resource would be an invaluable front line weapon in war and the backbone of many commercial industries, yet decades later, teleportation is still caged within the realm of science fiction.
In 1951, the United States transferred the Eldrige to the country of Greece. Greece christened the ship the HS Leon, using the vessel for joint U.S. operations during the Cold War. The USSEldridge met an unceremonious end, with the decommissioned ship sold to a Grecian firm as scrap after five decades of service.
In 1999, fifteen members of the USS Eldridge crew held a reunion in Atlantic City, with the veterans bemoaning the decades of questioning surrounding the vessel they served on.
If you follow UFO’s, or NASA, or Planet X/Nibiru, then you already know there is tremendous amounts of evidence not only of extraterrestrial life exists, but also that many world governments (including out own) are well aware of that fact and may very well be in contact with them. This is the point where many people tune out, and label you a “Conspiracy Nut” or something of the sort. Yep, and the laughed at anyone who thought the world was round too, or that the Earth went around the sun. How did that work out?
If you look into Planet X, or Nibiru, or whatever you want to call it, there is MOUNTAINS of evidence it is real, dating back to roughly 1950. FACT: Before the discovery of what was eventually named Neptune in the 1840’s, astronomers of 175 years ago observed irregularities Uranus’ orbital path. Before we had people branded as “climate deniers,” or “conspiracy nuts,” and long before the world elites had the Internet to use as a method of mass ridicule within seconds for anyone not towing the mainstream line (by the way, you’re not a “climate denier” are you?), scientists DID realize there was a Planet X out there. They noted there must be something else in space past Neptune (obviously of enormous gravitational mass) that is pulling it out of orbit. Planets don’t move on their own. Ultimate that led to the discovery of the next planet, Uranus, which was thought be the cure. PROBLEM: We know TODAY, that Uranus is nowhere NEAR large enough be able to pull Neptune out of orbit. Do you own research.
I am not saying Planet X is on a crash course for Earth and we’re all going to die. What I am saying is do your homework. I’m sold. Completely. I’ve seen enough video (including plenty leaked by NASA employees) that could not be any more clear it is visible from earth, from certain vantage points, at certain times. Check out the Elusive Planet X Caught on Video in the U.S. After Sundown. As for aliens, my personal favorite mystery is the 13,000 Year Old Satellite Orbiting Earth Sending Radio Signals. FACT: On Friday, May 14, 1954, numerous papers carry an interesting statement by retired Marine Corps Major Donald E. Keyhoe, who states the Earth is being circled by one or two artificial satellites. U.S. Government scientists at White Sands, NM, he added, were making an effort to locate and chart them, and determine origin. Whether UFOs are actually alien crafts or not, they’re extremely interesting to think about. No one knows exactly what they are (hence the name), but there sure are plenty of theories.
Theories like these range from believable, to terrifying, to laughably entertaining.
1. The Black Knight Satellite
Last week, we went in-depth into just what the Black Knight Satellite is (or what it could be). The short version is that the Black Knight is a large satellite that’s believed to have been orbiting Earth for the last 300,000 years. No one knows how it got there, but it’s been detected by NASA multiple times.
2. John F. Kennedy Killed By CIA
The only thing that conspiracy theorists love more than speculating about UFOs is speculating about JFK’s assassination. According some to theorists, just ten days before he was killed in Dallas, President Kennedy demanded “full disclosure” from the CIA regarding their investigations into unidentified flying objects. He also ordered the agency to share all of their UFO data with NASA. To avoid having to disclose their alleged links to UFOs, the CIA had Kennedy killed.
3. The Hologram Plan
This one is weird. In 2009, a strange, blue light formed in the night sky over Norway. While the explanation is likely meteorological, conspiracy theorists declared it to be a failed attempt at implementing Project Blue Beam. The theory goes that the “New World Order” plans to show a holographic projection simulating an alien invasion as a means to seize power. Clearly, they are still working out the kinks in their plan.
4. Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vs. UFO
Theories abound about the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370. The most interesting one claims that it was abducted by a UFO. The proof that believers offer for this particular theory is that the Malaysian air force detected an unidentified flying object on their radar just before the plane disappeared. If that’s true, this theory would account for the lack of physical debris usually found in the event of a plane crash.
5. America’s Hidden Space Fleet
While the United States has one of the most sophisticated terrestrial militaries in the world, when it comes to space warfare, we’re woefully unqualified. Or are we? According to some theorists, NASA’s mission for space exploration is merely a front. Their real purpose is to build and maintain a fleet of interstellar war ships that are in orbit above Earth as we speak. The evidence offered for this supposed space fleet is a cryptic reference to something called the Solar Warden Program in a leaked document from the U.S. State Department.
6. 2012 Olympic Alien Invasion
The 2012 Olympic Games were a triumph of human achievement. However, if you were a UFO conspiracy theorist, it was anything but. According to these folks, the 2012 Olympic mascots somehow conveyed a hidden message about an impending alien invasion. Instead of rooting for their home teams, theorists were busy stocking their emergency bunkers. When the invasion didn’t happen, it was, of course, classified as a conspiracy. This time, the perpetrators were the Free Masons.
7. Alien Jesus
One of the most widely circulated UFO conspiracy theories out there is that Jesus was actually an alien. This one falls into the Ancient Aliens category of conspiracies. While it seems far out, it would explain pretty much all of Jesus’s miracles.
8. Nazi UFOs In Antarctica
In 1946, America mounted a large, unprecedented expedition to Antarctica. The official reason was to beat the Soviets there. However, Nazi supporters maintain that the expedition was mounted to destroy a secret Nazi UFO base located there. The theory continues, saying that the “attack force” was repelled by the superior Nazi technology. In reality, bad weather forced the expedition to make a hasty return.
9. General MacArthur vs. Aliens
During a 1955 speech, General MacArthur is said to have made a comment about Earth-wide war against aliens. He urged the world to unite because the next great war could be a battle for Earth’s very survival. Conspiracy theorists believe this was a reference to some specific knowledge that MacArthur had about the existence of aliens.
10. NASA Sent Astronauts To Another Planet
While humans have only officially visited the moon, UFO theorists believe humanity has gone much farther. They claim that a dozen astronauts were sent to a planet 37 light-years away called Serpo during the Kennedy administration. They were part of an exchange program implemented by grateful aliens who were saved after their spacecraft crashed in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947.

Do you believe in UFOs?
A Dexter woman does after seeing what she believed to be saucer-like flying objects in the night sky over her home recently. The only problem with her theory is that it was the Fourth of July — a time for all kinds of objects to be lighting up the skies overhead. Anita Barnes, however, is convinced, as are her mother and her husband, that what they witnessed on the night of the Fourth, did not resemble any fireworks they’ve ever witnessed. “It was about 9:30,” Barnes explains, “and my husband called in to me to come outside and see what was flying overhead.” One of the objects sighted, she said, was what is typically described as a flying saucer, a round lighted object with a sort of outside slope or ring around the middle. Barnes went inside her home to retrieve her cell phone and was able to take several photos of the sightings, that continued until nearly midnight. Barnes lives on the far west end of West St. Francis Street. Her mother, who lives on Bain Street, witnessed the same sights.
Some of the objects, Barnes explained, had colorful lights circling their outer rims. “There were eight at time, one right behind the other,” Barnes said. She said the objects were going in a south to northwestern direction over her house. “At one point, two of them had come back toward my house. Then they disappeared, and then the single white light saucers just came out of nowhere for hours.” Until the sightings on the Fourth, Barnes noted she was “always kind of negative” regarding the theory of flying saucers and UFOs. “I was really amazed,” she said. “I have never seen anything like what I saw that night. Every time I would see one coming, I’d get my phone and try to get a picture of it. I was very excited.” While most of the photos on Anita Barnes’ phone are cloudy and distant, one in particular stands out. The object (pictured herein) shows the image that most describe when describing a UFO — the bright light and ring around it. Barnes said she has since heard that there were also sightings in the Bernie area, but in part because of the date, didn’t report them to any news agency or media outlet.
