What is the relationship between UFOs and Natural Disasters?
Of course, that question is a bit weird and scary; but based on the videos, photo’s and witnesses sightings of these particularly unknown objects in the sky it appears there is a increase before and after the natural disasters happen.
Scientists don’t know anything about it, but the intriguing question is: Are they causing these events or are they just watching them like a movie? If they already knew what would happen, why haven’t they ever warned us?
UFOs have a way of showing up before, during and after natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis.
Do UFO sightings spell disaster according to some watchers of the skies?
Several UFO sightings have been reported in 2015 and the signs and evidence are there.

Popocateptl Volcano in Mexico City. A volcano being closely monitored for volcanic activities, the Popocateptl, rumored to be a UFO base reached news headlines after a flying object was seen emerging allegedly from the top of the volcano. The area is well-known for odd occurrences.

There are hundreds of reports every year and they seem to increase in frequency and concentration shortly before natural disasters. There are many videos and photos showing UFOs near disasters, recorded and captured by thousands of people around the world. UFO sightings during disasters were also being depicted for thousands of years in paintings and hieroglyphics.
“Why do we see so many UFOs near volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis and nuclear power plants? Are we being watched? Controlled? Cared for? Warned?”
Skeptics believe claimed ‘UFOs’ are caught on camera at such events because they are filmed by so many people – increasing the probability of an out-of-focus bird or similar passing in front of the lens. “Earthquake lights” are a well-known result of the geological forces that create earthquakes and also may be a explanation for some sightings.
They also say that an increased use of drone technology to get cameras nearer such natural events adds to the growing number of “sightings”.
Other past Disasters with UFO Sightings:
March 11, 2011, Japan was hit by an 8.9 magnitude earthquake under the ocean floor. Tokyo felt the tremors too. Then a tsunami hit Japan 30 minutes later. There were 19,000 people lost in the devastation. After the disaster, thousands of UFO’s were sighted all over Japan.
January, 2010 in Haiti, it was crushed at 4:53 p.m. with a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. In Porte Prince, missionaries filmed a strange ball of light hovering overhead after the earthquake had passed. This could have been extraterrestrials watching the aftermath of the destruction or it could be, what is referred to as, ‘earthquake weather’ or technological origin, from all the energy that is released from the Earth in a natural disaster. The government has been researching how to use weather as a weapon. During the Vietnam War, the U.S. attempted to control the weather by flooding Vietnam’s supply lines.

To sort out the biological intricacies of Earth-like planets, astronomers have developed computer models that examine how ultraviolet radiation from other planets' nearby suns may affect those worlds, according to new research published June 10 in Astrophysical Journal.
"Depending on the intensity, ultraviolet radiation can be both useful and harmful to the origin of life," says Lisa Kaltenegger, Cornell associate professor of astronomy and the director of Cornell's new Carl Sagan Institute: Pale Blue Dot and Beyond. "We are trying to ascertain how much radiation other young Earths would get and what that could mean for the possibility for life."
The study, "UV Surface Environment of Earth-like Planets Orbiting FGKM Stars Through Geological Evolution," was prepared by lead author Sarah Rugheimer, Cornell research associate at the Carl Sagan Institute; Antigona Segura of Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico; Dimitar Sasselov of the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics; and Kaltenegger.
"We're going to see all kinds of planets in all kinds of stages in their own evolution, but we wanted to take four kinds of epochs from Earth history, as samples of what we might see," said Rugheimer. "With the next generation of missions, we expect to observe a wide diversity of extrasolar planets."
Borrowing from deep into Earth's history, Rugheimer and co-authors modeled the first epoch, a pre-biotic world with a carbon dioxide-dominated atmosphere, similar to early Earth 3.9 billion years ago. The second epoch – about 2 billion years ago – spawned the first whiff of oxygen, an active biosphere and the process of biosynthesis. Oxygen started to rise from the first cyanobacteria to the 1 percent concentration of current levels.
"It's not just the amount of ultraviolet radiation, but also the specific types of ultraviolet radiation which will impact biology," Rugheimer said. "We consider which wavelengths are most damaging to DNA and other biomolecules in addition to just looking at the total amount of radiation."
Multicellular life started about 800 million years ago, and the group modeled a third epoch, where oxygen rose to about 10 percent of today's levels. The fourth epoch corresponds to modern Earth, where the atmosphere features a carbon dioxide ratio of about 355 parts per million with current oxygen levels.
The researchers noted that for all epochs after the rise of oxygen the hottest and coolest stars have less biologically effective radiation. For the hottest stars, this is due to increased ozone shielding from higher UV environments, and for the coolest stars this is due to less absolute UV flux.
Rugheimer, who conducted the research while she was a doctoral student at Harvard University, explained that astrobiology draws researchers across disciplines and noted: "This work provides a link from the astrophysical conditions we expect to find on other planets to the origin-of-life experiments happening on here on Earth."

After previous sightings of “white lights” in the skies over Whitby, Ontario on June 11, June 13 and again on June 15, 2015, over the Oshawa/Whitby area, Paul Shishis believes, “There is definitely an unknown presence over the skies in Whitby/Oshawa.”
On June 15, the Oshawa resident was out walking his dog when he notice “three different unusual signs (from) above that bring wonder.”
At about 11:25 pm, he noticed “a slow white single light again brighten up and then just fade out – gone! This one was moving from the northeast heading southwest towards Lake Ontario.”
Shishis, always with camera ready, took three photos.
“Then another - much brighter one - came from the southwest at 11:52 pm,” he said.
He captured two pictures of this object and attempted to take video but “with little success.” This “white light turned heading directly north” and like the first object, it “faded out” and was gone.
Shishis noted that both of these sighting occurred under one minute.
“After a few minutes, I stopped and looked up in the sky thinking show me a sign if you are watching me. After about 20-30 seconds, (I) witnessed near above a single white flashing in a split second. Nothing more than one flash - weird eh?”
Shishis said he was “once again freaked out wondering about these types (of white lights) at night here.” And he wondered if their primary purpose might be to “monitor the area. They are certainly coming out this month in greater numbers this year like June 2013.”
He noted that he based that on the numbers of sightings he has had this month and he intends to keep his eyes on the skies.
“I plan to set up a tripod to catch a better image in ‘shape‘ should another one pass by at night.” he said. Then he added, “They appear to be prominent between 11 pm to midnight - or is it just when I walk the dog?”
He noted that some of the images he captured contain “a slight shake” so the photos might not show the “true shape” of the objects in question.
Again it should be noted that although from such a great distance, they appeared to be moving white lights, when the photos were later enhanced, they definitely appeared to be UFOs. Shishis would like to extend a special thanks to his friend, mg, for the picture enhancements.

The world could have been captured by a black hole, and we wouldn't even notice, according to a new theoretical perspective.

Are black holes the ruthless killers we've made them out to be? Samir Mathur says no. According to the professor of physics at The Ohio State University, the recently proposed idea that black holes have "firewalls" that destroy all they touch has a loophole.
In a paper posted online to the arXiv preprint server, Mathur takes issue with the firewall theory, and proves mathematically that black holes are not necessarily arbiters of doom.
In fact, he says the world could be captured by a black hole, and we wouldn't even notice.
More than a decade ago, Mathur used the principles of string theory to show that black holes are actually tangled-up balls of cosmic strings. His "fuzzball theory" helped resolve certain contradictions in how physicists think of black holes.
But when a group of researchers recently tried to build on Mathur's theory, they concluded that the surface of the fuzzball was actually a firewall.
According to the firewall theory, the surface of the fuzzball is deadly. In fact, the idea is called the firewall theory because it suggests that a very literal fiery death awaits anything that touches it.
Mathur and his team have been expanding on their fuzzball theory, too, and they've come to a completely different conclusion. They see black holes not as killers, but rather as benign copy machines of a sort.
They believe that when material touches the surface of a black hole, it becomes a hologram, a near-perfect copy of itself that continues to exist just as before.
"Near-perfect" is the point of contention. There is a hypothesis in physics called complementarity, which was first proposed by Stanford University physicist Leonard Susskind in 1993. Complementarity requires that any such hologram created by a black hole be a perfect copy of the original.
Mathematically, physicists on both sides of this new fuzzball-firewall debate have concluded that strict complementarity is not possible; That is to say, a perfect hologram can't form on the surface of a black hole.
Mathur and his colleagues are comfortable with the idea, because they have since developed a modified model of complementarity, in which they assume that an imperfect hologram forms. That work was done with former Ohio State postdoctoral researcher David Turton, who is now at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at the CEA-Saclay research center in France.
Proponents of the firewall theory take an all-or-nothing approach to complementarity. Without perfection, they say, there can only be fiery death.
With his latest paper, Mathur counters that he and his colleagues have now proven mathematically that modified complementarity is possible.
It's not that the firewall proponents made some kind of math error, he added. The two sides based their calculations on different assumptions, so they got different answers. One group rejects the idea of imperfection in this particular case, and the other does not.
Imperfection is common topic in cosmology. Physicist Stephen Hawking has famously said that the universe was imperfect from the very first moments of its existence. Without an imperfect scattering of the material created in the Big Bang, gravity would not have been able to draw together the atoms that make up galaxies, stars, the planets -- and us.
This new dispute about firewalls and fuzzballs hinges on whether physicists can accept that black holes are imperfect, just like the rest of the universe.
"There's no such thing as a perfect black hole, because every black hole is different," Mathur explained.
His comment refers to the resolution of the "information paradox," a long-running physics debate in which Hawking eventually conceded that the material that falls into a black hole isn't destroyed, but rather becomes part of the black hole.
The black hole is permanently changed by the new addition. It's as if, metaphorically speaking, a new gene sequence has been spliced into its DNA. That means every black hole is a unique product of the material that happens to come across it.
The information paradox was resolved in part due to Mathur's development of the fuzzball theory in 2003. The idea, which he published in the journal Nuclear Physics B in 2004, was solidified through the work of other scientists including Oleg Lunin of SUNY Albany, Stefano Giusto of the University of Padova, Iosif Bena of CEA-Saclay, and Nick Warner of the University of Southern California. Mathur's co-authors included then-students Borun Chowdhury (now a postdoctoral researcher at Arizona State University), and Steven Avery (now a postdoctoral researcher at Brown University).
Their model was radical at the time, since it suggested that black holes had a defined -- albeit "fuzzy" -- surface. That means material doesn't actually fall into black holes so much as it falls onto them.
The implications of the fuzzball-firewall issue are profound. One of the tenets of string theory is that our three-dimensional existence -- four-dimensional if you count time -- might actually be a hologram on a surface that exists in many more dimensions.
"If the surface of a black hole is a firewall, then the idea of the universe as a hologram has to be wrong," Mathur said.
The very nature of the universe is at stake, but don't expect rival physicists to come to blows about it.
"It's not that kind of disagreement," Mathur laughed. "It's a simple question, really. Do you accept the idea of imperfection, or do you not?"

A mysterious black circle could be seen in the sky above Utrecht on Tuesday night. Speculation on what it could be ran wild on Twitter, with theories of a strange weather phenomenon, starlings flying in a pattern and even aliens being thrown about.
The reality turned out to be much more mundane. The mysterious circle is a special effect by Opera Holland for its piece “The Day After”, RTV Utrecht reports “The opera is about the destruction of the earth and an explosion belongs with it”, a spokesperson said to the broadcaster.
“The Day After” will be on show at fort Rijnauwen between June 18th and July 11th.

Will Allen a professional photographer and former White House/Air Force Engineer states, “I have photographs of extraterrestrial craft coming in to land at an extraterrestrial base under or around the White House underneath the Potomac River.”
Mr. Allen stated, “On July 20, 2010 at 3:18:07 AM in NW Washington DC, approximately one mile south east of the White House, I imaged a slow moving hyperdimensional Extraterrestrial space craft pulse through the sky, and then (observed the UFO) fired a ray of light or directed energy beam in the vicinity of the White House.
Mr. Allen, who grew up on U.S. military bases and now resides in Washington, DC, has stated that at age five he was visited by a group of “four to five grey extraterrestrials in silver spacesuits” who implanted him with a device.
That implant device went undetected during all the years of his military and White House service, and now signals him to go to specific locations in Washington, DC where he is instructed to photograph extraterrestrial craft and personnel that enter P-56A restricted Capitol Hill airspace through hyperdimensional Star gates at extremely high speeds.
Mr. Allen believes that his photographs, which are forensic in quality, document that the same intelligent hyperdimensional civilization was behind the July 16, 1952 and the July 16, 2002 flyovers of the U.S. Capitol.

It is not unreasonable to ascribe intentionality to the hyperdimensional UFO that performed a dimensional shift into a self-generated Star gate phenomenon and entered Washington DC airspace one mile south east of the White House, emitting a ray of light or directed energy beam.

No energy can reach the center of the cavern, which corresponds to no point a finite distance away from Earth in the widely accepted scientific cosmology. A drill, Gardner says, would lengthen as it traveled away from the cavern and eventually pass through the “point at infinity” corresponding to the center of the Earth in the widely accepted scientific cosmology. Apparently the entire landscape of the Giza Necropolis, including the Pyramids and the Sphinx, display signs of erosion. This has led researchers to suggest that certain areas of this mighty necropolis were once submerged under the sea and a newly discovered fossil makes this theory look a lot more believable. A pretty cool theory right? Well here is the story.
Archaeologist Sherif El Morsi, who has worked extensively on the Giza plateau for over two decades, and his colleague Antoine Gigal, were the ones who made the discovery of this controversial fossil, which backs up studies and theories that the Pyramids of Giza and the mighty Sphinx were once submerged under the sea. Sherif El Morsi and Antoine Gigal are the founders of Giza for Humanity.
Dr. Robert M. Schloch was one of the first researchers to really address the theory that the structures of the plateau are much older than previously thought. In the early 90’s, Dr. Schlock suggested that the Sphinx was thousands of years older than archaeologists believed, dating back to 5000-9000 BC, this suggestion was based on erosion pattern of water found at the monuments and the surrounding rocks.
Archaeologist Sherif El Morsi has been researching and looking into the mystery ever since. During one of the photo shoots documenting patterns of erosion of several megaliths in the area, he made an even more surprising discovery that suggests that the entire area was submerged at one moment.
“During one of the documentations of the ancient coastline, I almost tripped with a block of the second level of a temple,” said Mr. Morsi in an article published on the website Gigal Research. “To my surprise, the bump on the top surface of the block that almost tripped me was in fact a exoskeleton of a fossil of what appears to be a echinoid (sea urchin) which are marine creatures that live in relatively shallow waters.”
Sherif El Morsi suggests that the Giza plateau was once flooded by a surge. The temple site of Menkare in particular may have been a former lagoon when the sea level covered the Necropolis, the Sphinx, the complex of temples and other monuments of the area.
But there are several other theories which different scientists have suggested. Some researchers believe that the echinoid found on the limestone was actually exposed by erosion and the fossilized creature was part of the original limestone that had formed 30 million years ago. But Morsi responded to these claims in a interesting way, and suggested that the creature was cemented, or petrified, in a relatively recent time, citing evidence that the creature was found placed gravitationally on the floor, that the fossil was in almost perfect condition and was located within the intertidal range of the lagoon, which is a big contrast to the small fish typically found in limestone blocks.
“We can clearly see the pristine condition and the details of the perforations of the exoskeleton, this means that the sea creature must have been petrified in recent times.” -Sherif El Morsi
According to El Morsi, the flooding, was quite significant, peaking at about 75 meters above current sea level and creating a coastline spanning to the Khafra enclosure near the Sphinx at the temple of Menkare. El Morsi also believes that there is evidence present at the monuments and surrounding blocks that suggest the presence of tidal waves in the past, and even suggest a intertidal zone of about two meters.
The Sphinx, the temple of the Sphinx, and the first 20 fields of the Great Pyramid of Giza exhibit erosion due to deep water saturation according to El Morsi.
Dating the exact time of the flood is particularly difficult for researchers since in the last 140,000 thousand years, seal levels have fluctuated by over 120 meters.
Certainly this is a very interesting theory and we look forward in finding out more about the possibility of the Giza Plateau being submerged under water.

Het is een foto die een fiks aantal jaren geleden is genomen op het eiland Tenerife.

Was aan het parapente en nam een 'selfie'. Bij terugkomst in Nederland ontdekte ik pas die klassieke ufo rechts [sic: links] op de foto.
Op het moment zelf dat ik aan het vliegen was helemaal niets gezien en anderen ook niet.
Als je deze foto ergens zou tegenkomen op internet zou je denken dat je te maken hebt met een met photoshop bewerkte foto. Het is namelijk zelden dat je zo’n mooie en duidelijke UFO op een foto tegenkomt.
Hij is fascinerend, ook omdat we weten dat hij echt is en het beeld van de klassieke retro UFO zo duidelijk is dat het moeilijk afgedaan kan worden als een lensflare of een Thaise ballon.
Tenerife is ook een eiland waar je één van de gevaarlijkste vulkanen ter wereld aantreft, de Pico del Teide.
De praktijk bewijst dat de kans groot is dat in de buurt van een vulkaan ook UFO’s worden waargenomen, ze lijken er een voorkeur voor of interesse in/belang bij te hebben.
Zo werd enkele jaren geleden de volgende opname gemaakt van een zogenaamde UFO-wolk boven deze vulkaan. Een UFO of moederschip dat vermomd is als wolk en/of een dimensieportaal zoals we die de laatste tijd steeds meer meemaken.

Op de eerste foto zie je de man lopen en als je goed kijkt, zie je een soort cilindervormig object achter hem in de lucht.

Het lijkt er inderdaad op dat deze vakantieganger per ongeluk een vreemd vliegend object in de vorm van een sigaar heeft vastgelegd. Het is een verschijningsvorm van UFO's die veel voorkomt, dus wat dat betreft zou het heel goed kunnen.

Just about every mythology, you’ll find something in the line that God created human beings. Creation doesn’t mean creating something from scratch – This is true for the statute discovered 7,000 years old. Al-Ubaid is Arab tribe in Iraq settled in Kirkuk. During the 18th century, the tribe has migrated from the Baghdad area to Khabour and Hawija. Contracted to protect the oil pipelines, it has faced lots of consequences. At the Al-Ubaid’s Archaeological site, researchers have found several pre-Sumerian artifacts a way back 7,000 years. These items have strange looking statutes being discovered, which happens to be a combination of lizard-like and human features combined. Unfortunately, little is known about the civilization. However, its influence may be seen in different Sumerian culture aspects. After a while, it developed into a flourishing city.
The Strange Lizard-Like and Human Features
The Mystery 7,000-year-old Ubaid Lizardmen covers the humanoid figurines at the same time a lizard-like characteristic. As for the gender, it is both male and female, and most have what appear to be helmets on their heads. As you can see, they portray humanoids with reptilian characteristics. Others are also holding sceptres or staffs, symbolizing the ruling class. The strangest figurines are said to be the female figurine holding a baby, which has a strange lizard-like feature. Furthermore, the baby has a pointy face and almond shaped eyes. When archaeologists have found out the discoveries and no reason was being given as to why Ubaid culture made these looking figurines worshiping lizard-like creatures. Later on, it was justified that the poses of figurines are holding a baby while breastfeeding does not symbolize a ritual. Therefore, the purpose remains a mystery to archaeologists.
As for the origin, it was neither an imagination nor decoration because these Lizard-like creatures have already been present in many different cultures.

The month of August 1955 was a strange one for residents around the small town of Kelly, in Christian County, Kentucky. A number of locals, as well as area law enforcement, had claimed to have been experiencing various odd things of an “alien” variety; in fact, things would end up getting so strange for one group of locals, the Sutton family of nearby Hopkinsville, that their lives would be forever changed in the aftermath.
The events that led to a terrorizing evening for the family, along with a visiting friend from out of town, were both terrifying and wholly inexplicable. Things started as Pennsylvania native Billy Ray Taylor, along with Elmer Sutton, went outside to investigate noises coming from the forest nearby on the evening of August 21st, shortly after a series of odd lights had been seen in the distance. Both men, carrying guns, claimed to have witnessed a strange nonhuman entity emerge from the trees, prompting their return to the farmhouse. Soon afterward, the Suttons and Mr. Taylor would begin an evening secured within the home, as these strange “goblins” attacked them from the outside; thus began their nightlong bout with what have forever remained known as the “Hopkinsville Goblins,” an event in American Forteana that remains one of the strangest ever recorded.
On that fateful evening in August of 1955, the badly frightened Sutton family would eventually enlist the aid of area law enforcement, who sent no less than twenty officers out to the house, expecting a confrontation with some kind of otherworldly presence. Upon arrival, while evidence of a window-rattling conflict was found a plenty, there was no sign of any of these odd, diminutive beings, variously described as humanoid, though of smaller stature, light-skinned, and sporting large ears that stood upright off the sides of their heads.
The curious story does remain among some of the more odd urban legends and unexplained encounters ever collected, prompting a number of researchers over the years to suppose that the mystery of the “Hopkinsville Goblins” might have some basis in extraterrestrial intelligence visiting from afar… though the odd manner in which these creatures behaved could hardly be described as “intelligent,” at least in the human sense. Or perhaps these strange beings were something else… inter-dimensional visitors, cryptozoological monstrosities, or just plain hallucinations the occupants of the Sutton home may have somehow suffered en masse. But could there be other explanations than these listed here, which seem almost “conventional” at least within the realms of the strange and unusual? If so, what might they entail?
A recent report that appeared at the Who Forted? website discussed a strange story that, while almost entirely too good to be true, seems somewhat reminiscent of the fabled Hopkinsville Goblin encounter. According to blogger Greg Newkirk, he received an email from a Kentucky man claiming to have made contact with strange, diminutive creatures with pale skin, large eyes, and an odd method of “chirping” for communication. The man reports that these odd entities have appeared around his home at various times throughout the last several months, and that their presence has caused great distress among he and his family members, even to the point that they’ve been forced to leave the property for fear of these strange “cave dwelling” creatures. Could there actually be a race of semi-subterranean humanoid creatures that exist beneath parts of Kentucky, the likes of which might have appeared long ago around the time of the infamous 1955 Hopkinsville encounter? Or if not, what else might these strange creatures be… other than an elaborate hoax, inspired by the classic story of “Hopkinsville Goblins” from so long ago?

The image was revealed by self-proclaimed ‘researcher of the unknown’ Valentin Degterev from the city of Nizhny Tagil in central Russia.
The satellite image was taken back in 15 February 2012, but Mr Degterev has now published it online and it has quickly gone viral on Russian social media website VK.
‘I think there is very large disc-shaped flying machine among the frozen ice,’ he claimed.
Anyone can view the object by inputting the coordinates 80°34'08.4"S 30°05'19.3"W into Google Maps.
‘I found the unique object using the online service of Google Earth in Antarctica,’ said Mr Degterev.
‘In amongst the endless ice desert, it is the most genuine UFO in its most classic shape.’
Tellingly, the object of interest is among many other cliffs and shadows, and doesn't particularly look like anything out of this world.

Mr Degterev, however, is adamant the hole - which measures about 65ft (20 metres) wide and 230ft (70 metres) long - cannot be explained by anything from this planet.
‘I do not presume to know exactly what it is,’ he said.
But Andrew Fleming from the British Antarctic Survey, told MailOnline that the object was quite clearly simply a crevasse in the ground.
'A crevasse is a lot of ice formed by differential movement of the ice,' he said.
'They can be tens of metres deep. It's one large slot, nothing unusual, but they are spectacular. It's certainly not a UFO, though.'
He warned that crevasses can be quite dangerous and joked: 'I'd much rather come across a UFO than deal with these things!'
He added that the dark area was likely to be a shadow, while the slight blue tinge was bare ice - which is ice without snow cover.

But Mr Degterev doesn't agree. He said: ‘It is definitely not a polar station, nor a plane (as there aren't any airplanes or helicopters this big in the world).
‘There also aren't any ships lost in Antarctica.
‘It seems this is a man-made object from the distant cosmos.’
On his Live Journal page, Mr Degterev went further and said the object had a metal body and was definitely not made of rock or stone.
Nigel Watson, author of the UFO Investigations Manual, said: ‘It’s hard to tell if this a “classic” saucer sticking out of the ice, or whether it is a break in the ice.
‘Antarctica has a long tradition of being the resting place of crashed saucers or a base for their operations.’

Last week a data visualisation expert created a map of the US showing almost 90 years of official UFO sightings (above), including information such as the time of day they are typically noticed in different months.
The data also reveals that UFO sightings of fireballs are the most common, while egg-shaped craft are the rarest over time.
John Nelson combined census data with statistics compiled between 1925 and 2014 by the National UFO Reporting Centre to make his maps.
‘Of course, as is the case for any observation data, there is a strong tendency towards echoing a population map’ he wrote on his blog.
‘This is certainly the case with this sighting data, as well. In order to visualise the actual sighting phenomenon, I needed to normalise by the underlying population.’
To do this, he created a map showing sightings by population density, as well as maps based on more complex calculations to build the most accurate maps he could.

Photos of a UFO that has crashed on the set of The X-Files mini-series have surfaced.
When the television series came to an end in 2002, it left a major plotline unresolved. Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) learned the truth about a massive alien invasion that would happen on Dec. 22, 2012.
Based on recent set photos, life in 2015 is pretty hunky-dory. There doesn't seem to be any signs of mass-colonization by aliens. That's a major issue that fans of the series hope will be addressed by Chris Carter in this mini-series. Perhaps these new images of a crashed UFO are an indication that this matter will be resolved.

Legal implications of an encounter with extraterrestrial intelligence

For decades, scientists and filmmakers alike have dedicated tremendous efforts to speculate about two main issues concerning extraterrestrial intelligent life forms. One, do they exist? Two, what would happen if they come to visit us on Earth?
This article scrutinizes the legal issues that may arise after a close contact of human civilization with intelligent extraterrestrials. This includes both legal principles upon which humans can trade and conclude contracts and treaties with friendly extraterrestrials, and also more sophisticated issues such as business and law of war with hostile extraterrestrial invaders have been put on the legal perspective.
Are intelligent extraterrestrials equal to humans in legal rights?
For centuries, humankind has considered itself as the superior form of life, and all other animals and plants as inferior ones subjected to serve their human masters. However, this black-and-white view over the supremacy of humans is changing even before any contact with extraterrestrial, technologically advanced, life forms.
Advances in social psychology and behaviorology studies of a wide range of animals have convinced many scientists that features once thought to be unique to human beings are common among other mammals, birds, and even social insects as well.
Developments with regard to assigning human-like rights for terrestrial nonhuman animals leaves no doubt for doing the same for extraterrestrial intelligent life forms.
Tool-making, logical problem solving, empathy toward others, sense of time and planning, and even sophisticated structured audio communication (language) are recognized by biologists in the behavior of apes, dolphins, elephants, crows, and ants. The legal community has responded to these new scientific understandings proportionally.
In a world first, a court in Argentina issued a historic and unprecedented ruling that favors the rights of an orangutan held in captivity. Sandra the orangutan was granted legal action so she may be transferred to a habitat in keeping with her development. Argentina’s Association of Professional Lawyers for Animal Rights filed a writ of habeas corpus, a resource to avoid arbitrary arrests, on Sandra’s behalf.
In a similar occasion, the legal rights of elephants as sentient animals are being recognized by the entertainment industry. Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus recently announced that it plan to stop using the animals by 2018. Growing public concern about how the animals are treated led to the decision. The company’s 43 elephants will live at an animal conservation center in Florida.
These developments with regard to assigning human-like rights for terrestrial nonhuman animals leaves no doubt for inferring that extraterrestrial intelligent life forms, at least in terrestrial legal systems’ point of view, will enjoy rights equal to their human counterparts.
It might be possible that extraterrestrials’ point of view towards us—humans—is very much like that of us concerning “inferior” creatures that either have no rights or, at best, a very slim spectrum of basic rights. However, for the sake of our legal discussion, it is better to limit speculation about aliens’ ideology before actually meeting them.
Friend or foe?
For the moment, let’s disregard the Fermi Paradox and assume that, one way or another, extraterrestrial intelligent life forms are able to to visit us here on Earth and, among other disciplines of human knowledge and civilization, the legal community has been assigned the task of concluding any kind of treaty or agreement with extraterrestrials.
That said, the very first question of law would be to assess whether aliens are friendly or hostile toward human civilization and earthly life form. Are they here to help us or ask for our help? Worse, are they here to conquer our planet and annex it to their intergalactic empire whose existence we were previously completely unaware?
For each of these questions, human legal systems in general— not just space law—have distinct answers and implications.
Which legal system to apply?
For selecting the most convenient legal system to deal with the aliens on Earth, a distinction should be made concerning the choice of law. Are humans randomly encountering extraterrestrials, or we are dealing with accredited political representatives of an alien civilization?
Although it seems very unlikely that technologically advanced aliens would recognize the political boundaries of our nation-states, if a spacecraft with aliens onboard landed anywhere on Earth, and they do not carry any political mission to make contact with humans, legally speaking they would be subject to the territorial jurisdiction in which they have entered unless otherwise collectively agreed upon by the international legal community.
The best approach would be to assign the aliens the same legal rights that foreign diplomats enjoy while they are on mission in foreign countries.
For example, if an extraterrestrial spacecraft enters the territory of the Republic of Ireland, the aliens on board shall be treated with the applicable laws of Ireland, including with regard to safeguarding the asylum rights that Irish law has granted for human beings from other nations. By the same analogy, if aliens land in Russia, the laws of the Russian Federation during their stay within the territory of that country in subject matters such as seeking asylum, making contracts, or any other societal or personal legal issue will be applicable.
The best approach would be to assign the aliens the same legal rights that foreign diplomats enjoy while they are on mission in foreign countries. That is, if extraterrestrials come to Earth in small or large numbers and reside temporarily or permanently, their laws and traditions among themselves should remain out of human legal intervention and judgment. An exception would exclude exercise of certain conducts or behavior that is deemed acceptable among aliens but is gravely unacceptable, harmful, or in contradiction with principle of peaceful coexistence with humans. In order to avoid any cultural misconception among alien newcomers and human host societies, awareness about the concerns and likes of both communities ought to be actively pursued. It might be very fruitful that all legal measures are communicated in advance to avoid misunderstandings that would lead to disastrous outcomes on both sides.
On the other hand, if aliens travel to Earth to conclude any kind of pact, treaty, or agreement on behalf of their civilization with human civilization in general or—very unlikely but not impossible—with single nation-states on Earth, then existing international law shall prevail. In other words, the provisions of Vienna Convention about the law of treaties along with the principles of the charter of United Nations ought to be observed by human signatories of such interplanetary legal document. Here again, the diplomatic rights of the alien negotiating team should be upheld by their human political counterparts.
Who on Earth sings interplanetary pact with extraterrestrials?
The issue of identifying the authority who can represent the human civilization as a whole in running the would-be bilateral negotiations and finalizing a binding legal document on behalf of our civilization with aliens is unclear as of yet, and nothing in international law or space law directly addresses it.
Among nongovernmental institutions, the SETI Institute has carried out a number of activities regarding the search for intelligent extraterrestrial life and, along with their search activities, they have prepared “Protocols for an ETI Signal Detection” concerning activities following the detection of extraterrestrial intelligence.
Although this protocol is not binding for governments, it urges them to join and adopt its provisions. Meanwhile, this protocol contains very insightful clues on how to react to extraterrestrial intelligent life forms, either when we discover unmistakable evidence of their existence through radio signals or if they visit us on Earth.
As with the probable duties of the governments or private entities after detection of extraterrestrial intelligent life forms, paragraph 3 of the protocol reads:
After concluding that the discovery appears to be credible evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence, and after informing other parties to this declaration, the discoverer should inform observers throughout the world through the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams of the International Astronomical Union, and should inform the Secretary General of the United Nations in accordance with Article XI of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Bodies. Because of their demonstrated interest in and expertise concerning the question of the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence, the discoverer should simultaneously inform the following international institutions of the discovery and should provide them with all pertinent data and recorded information concerning the evidence: the International Telecommunication Union, the Committee on Space Research, of the International Council of Scientific Unions, the International Astronautical Federation, the International Academy of Astronautics, the International Institute of Space Law, Commission 51 of the International Astronomical Union and Commission J of the International Radio Science Union.
Referring to the role of Secretary General of the United Nations in accordance with Article XI of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Bodies (better known as the Outer Space Treaty of 1967) is of immense importance for two reasons.
First, the United Nations is the sole international organization that virtually all countries are members of and expressly have recognized its central role in global governance through adopting the principles enshrined in the UN charter and additional legal documents.
For example, in its resolution 65/94 on “The United Nations in global governance,” the General Assembly recognized the need for inclusive, transparent, and effective multilateral systems to better address the urgent global challenges of today and reaffirmed the central role of the United Nations in ongoing efforts to find common solutions to such challenges.
To be certain, any negotiation with extraterrestrial intelligent life forms will be the most urgent global challenge of human history and no institution other than the United Nations (including its specialized organs) is more legitimate and accepted by consensus to take the lead in representing the human civilization.
We can conclude that from the point of view of international law that the UN Secretary General is the best candidate to sit at the negotiation table with extraterrestrial intelligent life forms if we meet them here on our planet.
In any would-be interplanetary legal or political negotiations, involvement of the UN as the leader on humanity’s side may entail the least opposition from member states, although the possibility of opposition cannot be completely ruled out based on the history of the UN in tackling global issues and crises.
Second, the Outer Space Treaty, which is regarded as the backbone of the space law, implicitly recognizes the role of the UN Secretary General as the representative of human civilization in running the talks or concluding legal documents with aliens. Article XI of the Outer Space Treaty reads:
In order to promote international co-operation in the peaceful exploration and use of outer space, States Parties to the Treaty conducting activities in outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, agree to inform the Secretary-General of the United Nations as well as the public and the international scientific community, to the greatest extent feasible and practicable, of the nature, conduct, locations and results of such activities. On receiving the said information, the Secretary-General of the United Nations should be prepared to disseminate it immediately and effectively.
If we consider contact with extraterrestrials as an activity committed by nations who are signatories to the Outer Space Treaty, then the obligation of informing the UN Secretary General for disseminating the data and adopting immediate and effective measures becomes obvious.
SETI’s post-detection protocol does contain an additional noteworthy provision that sheds more light on how a collective legal action should be taken as to contact (or deal) with extraterrestrials. Paragraph 8 of the said protocol states:
No response to a signal or other evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence should be sent until appropriate international consultations have taken place. The procedures for such consultations will be the subject of a separate agreement, declaration or arrangement.
This provision expressly prohibits countries from contacting aliens unilaterally or secretly without international consultations, which is an implicit reaffirmation of the leading role of United Nations in general and the secretary general in particular in handling the contacts.
Of these, we can conclude that from the point of view of international law that the UN Secretary General is the best candidate to sit at the negotiation table with extraterrestrial intelligent life forms if we meet them here on our planet. However, along with legal issues, there might be a tremendous amount of scientific and technical issues that require the assistance of either UN specialized organs like Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) or non-UN institutions such as the SETI Institute or universities. In either case, outsourcing any part of the negotiation will be within the discretion of the secretary general of the United Nations.
Law of war with extraterrestrials
In the event that technologically advanced aliens are hostile and come to Earth as invaders, the incurred devastation and causalities in clash of the civilizations would be unimaginable.
During any armed conflict with aliens, there is no ethical justification on humanity’s part to disregard the rights of vulnerable aliens, including prisoners of war, wounded fighters, or civilians. That is to say, the principles of the Geneva Convention and its additional protocols on the treatment of civilians, prisoners of war, and soldiers who are otherwise rendered hors de combat, or incapable of fighting, should apply for aliens equally and without discrimination as well.
What is more, conducting life threatening or physically disabling experiments to examine the biology of extraterrestrial captives ought to be banned via consecutive legislation soon after alien invasion is launched. Such attitudes discussed here conform to Kantian ethics, which argues that for an action to be permissible, it must be possible to apply it to all people without a contradiction occurring. The reason for observing moral law amidst the war with superior alien invaders could be to persuade them to act similarly with human prisoners and civilians based on the reciprocity of social behavior.
Business law
The advancement of technology is the result of societal exchanges for overcoming problems and satisfying needs. Hence the notion of exchange of commodities won’t be unfamiliar for aliens who are so ahead of humans in technology that that they may have traveled faster the speed of light to visit us.
In concluding business contracts with extraterrestrials, the scope of good faith in making a binding and enforceable promise to commit or omit any action, or provide any commodity or raw material in exchange of mutually accepted consideration, is the most important legal issue.
As discussed above, reaching some kind of mutual agreement between us and carbon-based extraterrestrial intelligent life forms shouldn’t be a hurdle. However, finding a common legal and comprehendible, and at the same time feasible, conceptual ground with silicon- or ammonia-based alien life forms would be a harder task to tackle. What may be vital for us is lethal to them and vice versa. Perhaps it become clear that what is non-hazardous for both sides is of no commercial value for either party, and doing business will thus have to become more sophisticated.
Any encounter with an extraterrestrial intelligence certainly will be a turning point for human civilization.
Therefore, finding a common commercial base for doing business with intelligent aliens seems to be more important than insisting on simple and possibly primitive legal doctrines and concepts of our civilization, all of which might be replaced by better and more practical alien legal doctrines once we hear about them. In any case, doing business and making commercial partnerships with extraterrestrial lifeforms is the best way to avoid animosity and its unwanted consequences, and this crucial task would be on insightful legal scholars first and foremost to fulfill.
Conclusion
The function of laws is defined to be the means by which proper function of social order within the course of time for any give nation or society is ensured and preserved. In the history of humankind, whenever laws became irrelevant or impractical, a wide range of changes occurred that dramatically altered the social structure of the related societies, either for sake of good or evil. Revolutions, riots, downfall of empires and civil wars all in all are direct outcomes of situations in which laws cease to be relevant to the actual lives of the citizens.
Any encounter with an extraterrestrial intelligence certainly will be a turning point for human civilization. No matter what the results of such encounter would be, the legal community, as well as scientists of various disciplines, may have a lot to learn from our cosmic neighbors for the betterment of our lives here on Earth. Learning from aliens regarding how to form a more integrated and fair society, or to avoid their destructive mistakes or misconducts, would be the most precious takeaway that legal scholars could use to tune human laws accordingly in the future.
