MUFON's mission is the analytical and scientific investigation of the UFO- Phenomenon for the benefit of humanity... Je kan ook hun site bekijken onder www.mufon.com. Ze geven een maandelijks tijdschrift uit, namelijk The MUFON UFO-Journal. Since 02/01/2020 is Pieter ex-president (=voorzitter) of BUFON, but also ex-National Director MUFON / Flanders and the Netherlands. We work together with the French MUFON Reseau MUFON/EUROP.

Virgin’s UFO prank frightens police on April Fools’ Day in 1989

    (Before It's News)

One of the most elaborate UFO pranks ever staged was on April Fools’ Day in 1989 over London. Virgin, the famous venture capitalist conglomerate, is known for its April foolery, and the mastermind behind their pranks is Virgin’s founder Sir Richard Branson.

The mission to fly a UFO over London began as a top secret project code named “Project Wedgewood.” Cameron Balloons Limited in the town of Bristol, a bit less than 2 hours from London by car, was commissioned to build a massive UFO hot air balloon fully kitted out with strobe lights.

As to what happened next, Branson detailed the execution of the prank in a blog on World UFO Day (July 2) in 2013. Branson says they took off in the balloon at approximately 4 am, the strobe lights blinking every 10 seconds. By the time the first light of dusk could be seen they had reached the M25, a major motorway leading into London.

Branson writes, “We could see every single vehicle grinding to a halt and hundreds of people looking up at the UFO flying over them.”

Newspapers said that Branson and his UFO were blown off target. The plan was to land in London’s Hyde Park, instead Branson had to set the UFO down in Surrey Field. Branson says they hadn’t realized the extent of the commotion their stunt was creating while they were in the air. The police and army had been alerted to their presence, and radio and TV stations were reporting the UFO over London.

When the balloon set down Branson says they were surrounded by police. The police appeared a bit hesitant to approach the strange aircraft. Branson says they “sent one lone policeman with his truncheon across the field to greet the alien.”

He continued, “The UFO’s door opened very slowly, with tonnes of dry ice billowing from it. A dwarf that we had carried on board, dressed in an ET outfit, walked down the platform towards the bobby. He promptly turned and ran in the opposite direction!”

Sir Branson of course thought this prank was pretty funny, but the police were not amused, at least not at first. Branson says, “The police initially didn’t see the funny side of it and threatened to arrest us for wasting their time. But they soon joined in the general merriment of it.”

Branson says, “Every April Fools Day we love to come up with a major fun prank that pulls peoples legs and makes them smile.”

This year, Virgin has conspired with the climate control company Nest for their April Fools’ Day fun. Branson, along with Nest CEO Tony Fadell, introduce an incredible new personal climate control feature on Virgin America airlines in the promotional video below. Although, if it sounds too good to be true, it is because, unfortunately, it is.

The possible unsettling implications of UFO sightings

    (Before It's News)

     UFO-Alien-Abduction

There are some unsettling conclusions reached by abduction researchers that are rarely mentioned in mainstream UFO reporting. Abduction researchers suggest, often based on decades of research, that there may be more going on with most UFO witnesses than simply seeing something unusual in the sky.

There is a wide continuum of what gets reported as a UFO. At one end of this spectrum are tiny dots of light making odd motions way off in the distance, but the source could be something perfectly terrestrial. On the other end of that same spectrum would be a close up sighting of a silvery flying saucer hovering silently just above the swing set in the back yard; which would be very difficult to dismiss as anything other than unknown.

    David Marler

    David Marler

Author and researcher David Marler has been calling the more noteworthy sightings unambiguous UFOs. This implies something well beyond the tiny dots that make up the majority of the sightings reports.

Marler says, “I came up with the term unambiguous UFOs to separate descriptions of large, low-flying, structured aerial objects from the ubiquitous and ambiguous light in the sky UFO reports. I believe there is a huge distinction between the two that demands clarification.”

The late researcher Elaine Douglass collected UFO reports for MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) for more than a quarter century. When conducting an investigation she would ask the witnesses the standard set of questions for any sighting, what time, how big, and so on. She would then do a follow up interview with deeper, more personal questions, asking them to describe any unusual personal events. This simply involved asking: “So, what else, in your whole life, has ever happened to you that you cannot explain?” More often than not, a big story would emerge. She would hear the unusual events that would imply some sort of direct contact experiences. What she concluded was that over half the people who see UFOs are abductees.

    Elaine Douglass

    Elaine Douglass

This may seem like a bold statement, but it’s very similar to what other investigators have concluded. Pioneering abduction researcher Budd Hopkins spoke openly that if someone sees a UFO they are most probably either seeing it arrive or leave, and there has been a missing time event covering an abduction. Hopkins has publicly speculated that there are probably more abductions than there are UFO sightings.

Abduction researcher Dr. David Jacobs said, “There is a reason for those UFOs in the sky, the phenomenon is far less random than we had once assumed. If people are seeing UFOs they are quite probably abductees.”

When I asked Jacobs what percentage of people who are seeing unambiguous UFOs are actually abductees, he replied, “The majority.” We discussed this and he seemed comfortable with the term majority, but he felt this was conservative and the real percentage might be much higher.

    David Jacobs

    David Jacobs

Abduction researcher and hypnotherapist Yvonne Smith was asked this same question, What percentage of people who are reporting an unambiguous UFO sighting are actually abductees? She, like most everyone I’ve asked, felt it was impossible to come up with an actual percentage, but was quick to say the majority. She said, “Many of the close-up sightings will have clues that this was a probable contact experience, things like distorted or missing time, or a car engine sputtering and mysteriously stopping.”

Smith noted that someone who has seen a UFO sighting might experience nightmares, vivid dreams or recurring flashbacks in the weeks or months afterwords. She feels it is vital that any witness have access to a qualified therapist if any distressing memories emerge. Both Cero International on the West Coast and Starborn Support on the East coast could recommend resources for anyone seeking help.

When abduction researcher Kathleen Marden was asked the same question, she said she had no way of knowing what that percentage might be. But she did say, “I can tell you that 67% of the participants in the2012 Marden-Stoner Commonalities Study stated that they consciously recalled (not with hypnosis), the observation of an unconventional craft at less than 1000 feet prior to an abduction.”

    Kathleen Marden

    Kathleen Marden

This statistic can’t be seen as an indication of a percentage of whether or not a close encounter witnesses may have been abducted, but it is interesting. Marden also added that from her research, she feels anyone with more than one close up sighting of a craft has most probably had some sort of an abduction experience.

    Joe Montaldo

    Joe Montaldo

Joe Montaldo is both a contactee and an abduction researcher. He runs an organization called ICAR (International Community for Alien Research) with a focus on the abduction phenomenon. Montaldo states that almost all UFO sightings are meant to be trigger memories, which are designed to let the witness know something happened.

Montaldo says, “ET never has to show himself to anybody. There is no need to ever let anyone see a craft, ever,” implying that their technology is so advanced that making their craft invisible is effortless, so if anyone actually sees a UFO it is because they want to be seen for a reason.

Montaldo went on to say, “I don’t think you can see a UFO if you’re not a contactee. Once you’ve been exposed to their telepathic fields or whatever they are, that’s how you can see them. It may not be easy [or possible] for us, but it’s easy for them.”

When asked to give a percentage of how many people who see a UFO are actually abductees, Joe said, “I’d put it at 100 percent”

    Roger Marsh

    Roger Marsh

Roger Marsh, Director of Communication for MUFON and also editor of their monthly journal, has been compiling and documenting UFO sighting reports gleaned from the MUFON Case Management System, which is an extensive database of witness reports. He also writes about UFOs for The Huffington Post, The Examiner and Open Minds.

When I asked Marsh this same question, “Off the top of my head, of the really good cases, I would say that maybe five percent of these would imply some sort of abduction event.” He went on to say he was judging these accounts by the written testimony of witnesses, where you sometimes get a clue like missing time within the reports. This is a much more conservative number than Montaldo’s sweeping 100 percent, but it is telling none the less. It should be noted that Marsh is not an abduction researcher like the other folks quoted here, he considers himself a UFO journalist instead.

What seems to be emerging, and this would be very difficult to quantify, is that the closer the UFO to the witness, the more likely an abduction event has occurred. The implication being that many, if not most UFO sightings have a buried abduction component.

    The Lines of Nazca Peru

    (Before It's News)

In the Peruvian Desert, about 200 miles south of Lima, there lies a plain between the Inca and Nazca (sometimes also spelled Nasca ) Valleys.Across this plain, in an area measuring 37 miles long and 1-mile wide, is an assortment of perfectly-straight lines, many running parallel, others intersecting, forming a grand geometric form. In and around the lines there are also trapezoidal zones, strange symbols, and pictures of birds and beasts all etched on a giant scale that can only be appreciated from the sky.

A Nasca trapezoid, looking like a runway, seems to invite the observation aircraft to land. (Photo courtesy of Michael J. Way. Copyright Michael J. Way)

    Discovery and Meaning

Though discovered by Peruvian archaeologist Toribio Mejia Xesspe who spotted them while hiking through the surrounding foothills in 1927, the forms are so difficult to see from the ground that they were not widely known until the 1930′s when aircraft spotted them while surveying for water. The plain, crisscrossed, by these giant lines with many forming rectangles, has a striking resemblance to a modern airport. The Swiss writer, Erich von Daniken , even suggested they had been built for the convenience of ancient visitors from space to land their ships. As tempting as it might be to subscribe to this theory, the desert floor at Nazca is soft earth and loose stone, not tarmac, and would not support the landing wheels of either an aircraft or a flying saucer.

So why are the lines there? The American explorer Paul Kosok, who made his first visit to Nazca in the 1940s, suggested that the lines were astronomically significant and that the plain acted as a giant observatory. He called them “the largest astronomy book in the world.” Gerald Hawkins, an American astronomer, tested this theory in 1968 by feeding the position of a sample of lines into a computer and having a program calculate how many lines coincided with an important astronomical event. Hawkins showed the number of lines that were astronomically significant were only about the same number that would be the result of pure chance. This makes it seem unlikely Nazca is an observatory.

The Nasca lines were created by clearing the darkened pampa stones to either side and exposing the lighter sand underneath. (Photo courtesy of Michael J. Way. Copyright Michael J. Way)

Perhaps the best theory for the lines and symbols belongs to Tony       Morrison, the English explorer. By researching the old folk ways of the people of the Andes mountains, Morrison discovered a tradition of wayside shrines linked by straight pathways. The faithful would move from shrine to shrine praying and meditating. Often the shrine was as simple as a small pile of stones. Morrison suggests that the lines at Nazca were similar in purpose and on a vast scale. The symbols may have also served as special enclosures for religious ceremonies.

    Construction of the Lines

How were they built? The lines were apparently made by brushing away the reddish, iron oxide covered pebbles that compose the desert surface and uncovering the white colored sand underneath. In most places wind, rain and erosion would quickly remove all traces of this within a few years. At Nazca, though, the lines have been preserved because it is such a windless, dry and isolated location.

A writer by the name of Jim Woodman believes that the lines and figures could not have been made without somebody in the air to direct the operations. ”You simply can’t see anything from ground level,” states Woodman.”You can’t appreciate any of it from anywhere except from above. You can’t tell me the Nazca builders would have gone to the monumental efforts they did without ever being able to see it.”

Woodman has proposed that ancient hot-air balloons were used to get an aerial view of the construction. To prove his hypothesis, Woodman constructed a balloon using materials that would have been available to the Nazca people. He was able to conduct a successful flight, though it only lasted two minutes.

The Nasca lines were created by clearing the darkened pampa stones to either side and exposing the lighter sand underneath. (Photo courtesy of Michael J. Way. Copyright Michael J. Way)

Most researchers are extremely skeptical of Woodman’s conclusions, however, as they find little evidence in the remains left by the Nazca of any balloon construction or operation.

It is more likely that the Nazca people used simple surveying techniques in their work. Straight lines can be made easily for great distances with simple tools. Two wooden stakes placed as a straight line would be used to guide the placement of a third stake along the line. One person would sight along the first two stakes and instruct a second person in the placement of the new stake. This could be repeated as many times as needed to make an almost perfectly-straight line miles in length.Evidence that the line makers used this technique exists in the form of the remains of a few stakes found at the ends of some of the lines.

The symbols were probably made by drawing the desired figure at some reasonable size, then using a grid system to divide it up. The symbol could then be redrawn at full scale by recreating the grid on the ground and working on each individual square one at a time.

    Related to Water?

Recently two researchers, David Johnson and Steve Mabee, have advanced a theory that the geoglyphs may be related to water. The Nazca plain is one of the driest places on Earth, getting less than one inch of rain a year. Johnson, while looking for sources of water in the region, noticed that ancient aqueducts, called puquios, seemed to be connected with some of the lines.Johnson thinks that the shapes may be a giant map of the underground water sources traced on the land. Mabee is working to gather evidence that might confirm this theory.

This figure appears to be a giant spider. (© Jarnogz & Dreamstime.com)

Other scientists are more skeptical, but admit that in a region where finding water was vital to survival, there might well be some connection between the ceremonial purpose of the lines and water.Johan Reinhard, a cultural anthropologist with the National Geographic Society, found that villagers in Bolivia walk along a straight pathway to shrines while praying and dancing for rain.Something similar may have been done at the ancient Nazca lines.

    Human Sacrifice

A recently discovered headless body suggests that human sacrifice was used by the Nazca people in religion ceremonies. ”Human sacrifice and decapitation were part of powerful rituals that would have allayed fears by invoking the ancestors to ensure fertility and the continuation of Nasca society,” wrote Christina Conlee of Texas State University in an article in Current Anthropology. ”The decapitation of the La Tiza individual appears to have been part of a ritual associated with ensuring agricultural fertility and the continuation of life and rebirth of the community.” The body is one of eight found in the Nazca area, buried seated with no head. A ceramic jar painted with an image of a head was found next to the remains. The head on the jar has a tree with eyes growing out of it, making it seem likely that the sacrifice was part of a fertility ceremony.

What was done with the heads of the victims? The Nazca were known to collect “Trophy Heads.” The Nazca removed the brain and soft tissue from the skulls, sewed the lips closed with cactus spines and drilled a hole through the forehead to accommodate a loop of woven rope. The heads were then hung on the ropes for display. Originally these were considered to be war trophies collected from distant tribes, but recent DNA analysis shows that the heads came from the Nazca population itself, suggesting that the motive was religious in nature.

Other South American Lines and Figures

The lines at Nazca aren’t the only landscape figures South America boasts. About 850 miles south of the plain is the largest human figure in the world laid out upon the side of Solitary Mountain in Chile. The Giant of Atacama stands 393 feet high and is surrounded by lines similar to those at Nazca.

Along the Pacific Coast in the foothills of the Andes Mountains is etched a figure resembling a giant candelabrum. Further south, Sierra Pintada, which means “the painted mountain” in Spanish, is covered with vast pictures including spirals, circles, warriors and a condor.Archaeologists speculate that these figures, clearly visible from the ground, served as guideposts for Inca traders.

An Alien Encounter Where A Strange Object Was Implanted Inside Him

    (Before It's News)

    UFO

This is a alien sighting and abduction story seen in the archives of The Daily Gazette. It goes back a while but it seems that the person involved, Richard L.Price, would still like to find out who the creatures were that abducted him when a child and implanted a strange object inside him.

Price said, “I’ve felt over the years, that they’ve been with me – that they’re with me all the time.”

    This is his story:

When he was eight years old he and a friend were walking near the railroad tracks in Troy. On hearing a noise, which sounded similar to a train approaching, they headed into a wooded area. The friend decided to turn back so Price was then alone.

He continued walking near a cemetery and a covered bridge. This is where the encounter happened.

At first he was scared. He said, “When I got a look at them, I turned and ran. Then all of a sudden, as if they did something to me, I stopped and wasn’t afraid any more.”

The aliens communicated with him, “You are coming with us.”

They took him to their spacecraft. It was an oval shape with six sides on top and on the bottom. There were pedestals coming out of the bottom for landing, similar to those seen in old science fiction stories.

He described the aliens as being between 4 and 5 feet tall with grey-pink complexions and they wore suits of red and blue together with helmets.

Price was taken into the craft and shown what he describes as a movie, only it felt to him as if he was part of the film. Amongst other things the movie showed a battle in space, where another craft was blown up by using beams of light which the spaceships were aiming at each other.

He was then taken into another room and had to remove all of his clothes for an examination. A scanning like device was used over his body. At one point the scanner stopped and burned his leg but he didn’t feel any pain. Another instrument was passed over his leg and it was healed straight away.

Next came his implant. A hand held instrument was used to implant a tiny object under the skin of his penis. He was told not to tamper with it. He was then released to go home.

He didn’t tell anyone about what had happened.

As he got older and attended High School, however, he mentioned what had happened to a girlfriend. His encounter and the story soon spread around his classmates.

The news also got out to his parents and other adults and Price was sent for psychological tests and was confined to a psychiatric hospital for three months. He was only released when he told the doctors he had made up the story. This was the only way they would free him.

In the early 1980s Price saw a physician, Neal Rzepkowski, who confirmed there was an object under the skin of Price’s penis, that did not belong there. Rzepkowski told him not to disturb it as it wasn’t infected or causing him discomfort.

The physician told The Daily Gazette, “… He appears normal. Who knows? It might be true.”

In 1989, however, the implanted object suddenly popped out. Price said he was scared, “I thought I was a goner. I thought I was going to die.” He had somehow convinced himself that the implanted object had kept him healthy.

    Bug

He claims he looked at the item through a magnifying glass and saw something crawl away from it, and is convinced it was an alien bug.

As for the object itself an identified physicist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology was given half but has yet to identify it. All the physicist would tell the Gazette was that the object was made up of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen and was therefore organic or biological.

And that is the Richard L.Price story.

Research balloon offered as explanation for 1966 Westall UFO incident

    (Before It's News)

The 1966 Westall UFO incident is hailed by some as one of the best mass UFO sightings of the modern UFO era. But recently discovered government documents have some suspecting that the UFO was actually a government research balloon.

The incident occurred on the morning of April 6, 1966 in the Australian suburb of Clayton South in Melbourne near Westall High School. Hundreds of students, staff, and nearby residents watched the strange object hover, land, and quickly fly away. Witnesses describe the craft as a silver or grey shining object shaped like a flying saucer or “a cup turned upside down on a saucer.” The UFO was reportedly accompanied by five light aircraft. According to the witnesses, the incident lasted twenty minutes.

    (Credit: The Dandenong Journal)

    (Credit: The Dandenong Journal)

Some report that men in uniforms arrived at the location of the craft’s landing, removing extensive soil samples. Some witnesses even claim that these unidentified men in uniforms scorched the landing area to eliminate any potential evidence of the UFO’s presence. And The Dandenong Journal reported that “students and staff have been instructed to ‘talk to no-one’ about the incident.”

Witnesses were, and still are, adamant that what they observed was absolutely not a light aircraft or a weather balloon. But, based on recently uncovered documents, some believe a balloon is actually the culprit.

Unexplained phenomenon researcher Keith Basterfield believes a rogue balloon from the HIBAL (high altitude balloon) project is the likely explanation for the Westall UFO. And, more specifically, he thinks it was HIBAL flight 292. The HIBAL project was reportedly a joint US-Australian initiative between 1960 and 1969 to monitor atmospheric radiation levels. The project accomplished this by using large silver balloons with payloads of sophisticated sensors. Basterfield formulated his hypothesis after reviewing all available documentation, including what he unearthed with Freedom of Information searches.

A high-altitude balloon being launched from the Roswell air field in 1967.

A high-altitude balloon being launched from the Roswell air field in 1967.

The Herald Sun explains, “Documents held by the National Archives and former Department of Supply indicate one test balloon launched from Mildura may have been blown off course and came down in Clayton South in a paddock near Westall High School, alarming and baffling hundreds of eyewitnesses, including teachers and students.” The Herald Sun points out that, despite government records of several HIBAL test flights, “the paperwork for the launches scheduled for the day before Westall appear to have been lost or destroyed.” Basterfield comments, “What is strikingly missing is a memo reporting on the actual four launches for April 1966, one of which was scheduled for 5 April 1966, the day before Westall . . . So we have no (official) knowledge of where flight 292 went.”

Despite claims of discovered government documents, many, including those who witnessed the UFO in 1966, are sure to find the HIBAL hypothesis hard to swallow.

The 1966 Westall UFO incident was recently commemorated with a a $150,000 UFO-themed playground that features a nearly eleven-foot-high, large, silver flying saucer that can accommodate up to seven children. It is trimmed with blue LED lights and is loosely based on what witnesses saw in 1966.

Triangle UFO Above Germany Leaves Questions In Its Wake (VIDEO)

    (Before It's News)

    GERMANYTRIANGLEUFO

When a UFO video seems too good to be true — is it?

We’ve pointed out many times how difficult it is to identify hoaxes among UFO photos and videos, and computer technology has just added to the confusion. With the right app or Photoshop elements, even youngsters can create and post real-looking, out-of-this-world UFOs to YouTube faster than you can say, “ET, phone home.” But the footage doesn’t always hold up under expert scrutiny.

Consider this recent example: A triangular UFO was reportedly videotaped over Kassel, Germany, on June 26 by a man who was taping his son playing in a park, reports the International Business Times.

    Watch the triangle UFO here.

Scott C. Waring, who runs the UFO Sightings Daily site, thinks it’s the genuine article.

“The fact that the person blurred out the face of the kid and didn’t get the UFO in the dead center of the video is what causes me to believe this is real,” he said. “Also, the lighting and shading on the UFO matches that of the trees and the bars of [the] jungle gym.”

But is that analysis enough to give this UFO the seal of approval? Other experts say no.

“There are two giveaway segments” that show the UFO is computer-generated, saidMarc Dantonio, chief photo and video analyst for the Mutual UFO Network. “As the object is first seen, you notice that the cameraman shifts the camera up and down a bit. The object should not be affected by this motion at all.”

Dantonio, who was featured on last month’s Syfy Channel documentary, “Aliens on the Moon: The Truth Exposed,” told The Huffington Post in an email that the triangular object in this Germany video should appear to move smoothly through the sky. “Its path, however, indicates anything but. As the camera moves, the object shifts in the sky in direct correlation to the movements of the camera.

“This shows me that this is a CG composition where the UFO flying in the sky was poorly tracked with ground objects. This happens several times,” Dantonio wrote.

    germanytriangleufo2

The cracks in the facade don’t end there.

“It walks like a duck, it talks like a duck, but it’s not a duck,” says former FBI special agent Ben Hansen.

“The video incorporates the image of a classic triangle UFO, which witnesses often report as silently floating across the sky. The videographer got that part right. However, there are several major red flags that tell me this was a hoax,” Hansen told HuffPost in an email.

“Although witnesses’ reactions can vary greatly when seeing a shocking UFO event, this man appears extremely underwhelmed. I would expect a little more enthusiasm or effort to try and follow the craft when it emerges behind the trees. If he made efforts to follow it, I’d like to see that. We’re led to believe that he puts down the camera and casually strolls away.”

Hansen agrees with Dantonio that the video is most likely the product of CGI (computer-generated imagery).

“As much time as was spent on getting the movement of the UFO right, the editor was a little lazy on the details of what we call ‘rotoscoping,’” Hansen said, describing what is probably the final blow to the video’s authenticity. “Going frame by frame — to tell the software program which objects the UFO needed to pass behind — it appears they got a little sloppy.

Hansen explains that he magnified and lightened the image, shown below, and it “shows the corner of the UFO accidentally overlapping in front of the playground structure when it was supposed to be passing behind.”

Wildfires force temporary evacuation of alien hunters' search facility

    Alien Center Shutdown

For aliens looking to move about the galaxy undetected, Tuesday would've been a good day to travel.

The wildfire that has consumed more than 31,000 acres in northern California forced the temporary evacuation of a telescope facility used to monitor for extraterrestrial life.

CNN reports that the Eiler Fire raging about 200 miles north of Sacramento came within a mile of the SETI Institute's Allen Telescope Array in Hat Creek on Tuesday, forcing staffers "to evacuate and temporarily shut down all of their computers, Internet, and power" for several hours.

"We can't listen when all that is down," Seth Shostak, senior astronomer and director at SETI (or "Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence"), told CNN. "The fire on the west had jumped the road, burnt down our favorite lunch place, got within a mile of the telescopes."

The Allen Telescope Array, funded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, includes 42 antennas designed to listen for extraterrestrial activity "at centimeter wavelengths.

Shostak, though, downplayed the possibility that they missed an E.T. discovery.

"We just lost some search hours," he said. "To expect that E.T. will somehow reach out at this moment, that would be very bizarre."

Power was later restored but SETI staffers "were not been able to communicate with the antennas," Shostak wrote on the institute's blog late Tuesday. He expects the array to be back up and running by Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Eiler fire, which destroyed eight homes and threatened a little more than 700 others, is just 35 percent contained, but fire officials are hopeful wet weather and increased humidity in the region will help control the blaze.

At around 09:30 UTC this morning, the Rosetta spacecraft completed its decade-long trek throughout the solar system as it finally reached its intended target of Comet 67P Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The spacecraft will orbit the comet as it makes its way into the inner solar system, studying how the nucleus is affected by the heat of the Sun.

The comet is currently about 450 million kilometers (251 million miles) from Earth and is currently headed toward the inner solar system as part of its 6.45-year-long orbit. The orbit extends past Jupiter and comes roughly halfway between the orbits of Mars and Earth. Rosetta is currently studying the comet, trying to find the best place for the lander when it launches in November.

If you want to keep track of Rosetta throughout its journey and see how it has been navigating the solar system for the last decade, ESA has an interactive website that will show the past, present, and future position of the spacecraft.

The new film “Earth to Echo” — which follows a group of kids on a fictional journey to help save a small alien robot — might have a bit of extraterrestrial truth at its core, one alien-hunting astronomer says.

As it turns out, writer Henry Gayden’s (“Zombie Roadkill,” the upcoming “Children of the Lamp”) depiction of a small, owl-like alien robot might be a more likely candidate for first contact than most people would expect, said Seth Shostak, a senior astronomer at the seti Institute in Mountain View, California. Given the dynamics of interstellar travel, robots make sense, he said.

“Just about the time that you develop enough science or tech to fly to other planets and other stars… you begin to develop faster computers,” Shostak told Space.com. “If you believe the people working on artificial intelligence — they think we will have thinking machines by midcentury. Evil Reptilian Alien Uses Hologram Of The Deceased To Rape Woman – This Story Is From Dr. Karla Turner – Was She Murdered? (Video)

    (Before It's News)

I am sharing this story because it is popular amongst the reptilian haters. Just like humans if a human rapes it doesn’t mean every human rapes. Same with beings such as Reptilians. Reptilians are the new Jews to hate on in the space cult whacko truther sections of the scene. So I am sharing for discussion not to condemn an entire species but to definitely condemn the actions of an evil reptilian if this story is true. I know for a fact good Reptilians exist. So don’t always buy the hype but this is something to think on regardless of your feelings for the reptilians. Some maybe of the light and others of a more demonic nature. You can watch the video below to find out more about Dr. Karla Turner’s supposed murder. – Jeffery Pritchett

From: ALIEN ABDUCTIONS IN THE GINGERBREAD HOUSE
    by Dr. Karla Turner

A man in his late 40′s came to us to explore several alien- related events in his life, and in the interview he told of a strange, although not apparently alien-oriented, episode that had haunted him since childhood.
When he was ten years old, his grandmother came to visit in his home, and since the house was small, she shared his bed on the first night of her visit.

During the night, the boy was awakened by a loud male voice. He couldn’t understand what the voice was saying, but it sounded angry and was addressing the grandmother lying beside him. The next morning, he asked his grandmother, “What was that voice in the bedroom last night?”

His grandmother, with tears in her eyes, pulled him tightly to her and said “That was the devil.” She said nothing more about the episode, but she did insist that her son take her back to her own home immediately. It was an  un reasonable request, and her son tried to talk her out of it. But the grandmother was adamant, and finally her son agreed to take her home the following day.

The entire family made the trip of over a hundred miles back to the grandmother’s farm, and within an hour of their arrival, the grandmother  suffered a massive stroke and died. Ever since that event, the man had felt a heavy burden of guilt associated with his grandmother’s death. Yet there was no conscious reason for him to have felt that way. The entire event was poignant and mystifying, but in all the alien encounters he had subsequently undergone, he had felt that the aliens were his friends and were helping him by expanding his psychic abilities.

A regression session was arranged, and in the course of the hypnosis, he was asked to look at that childhood experience. What he recalled was an abduction in which he and his grandmother were taken to a spacecraft in the company of reptilian aliens. He remembered the aliens telling his grandmother that they were interested in learning about her knowledge of medicinal herbs. And they offered to exchange medical information of their own. They gave the boy and the grandmother a liquid to drink, explaining that it was beneficial and would make the grandmother feel young and attractive again. So both of them drank the liquid, and the man remembered seeing his grandmother indeed looking much younger. That was the extent of his recollection.

Both he and Ms. Bartholic, who was conducting the regression, were puzzled by this, because there was nothing in the episode to account for the guilt he had felt about the grandmother’s death. So Ms. Bartholic deepened the man’s trance level and asked him to look at it again, with much clearer vision. And what he then recalled was much more disturbing.

The abduction, at first, followed his initial recollection. But when the liquid was drunk, he now remembered a very strong feeling of change in his body. And he saw that the grandmother didn’t actually look younger. Instead, she was placed on a table and approached by one of the reptilian aliens who wanted to have intercourse with her. The liquid had acted as an aphrodisiac, yet the grandmother resisted and said that since her husband’s death she would not have sex with anyone. The reptilian laughed and disappeared from the room momentarily. When he returned, he was accompanied by a man who looked exactly like the dead husband.

At this point, the grandmother agreed to have sex, but as the act was in progress, she suddenly realized that the image of her dead husband was a cruel illusion. It was actually the reptilian on top of her, and she cried out in great resistance for him to leave her alone. Once he was finished with her, he lifted up the little boy and placed him on top of the grandmother, forcing another sex act upon the both of them. Then the grandmother was removed from the table and the little boy was victimized himself by the reptilian, forced to have anal and oral sex. The grandmother protested violently, pushing the reptilian away from her grandson and interposing her body between them. “By Jesus,” she shouted, “you will not touch this boy!”

That must have been the wrong thing to say, because the reptilian became very angry and threatened her. “You will die for that!” he told her, and the two people were returned to the bedroom from which they’d been taken. The next morning, the grandmother told the little boy that the devil had been there the night before, and that was when she insisted upon being taken home. And, as it turned out, she did die immediately thereafter.

This, then, was the cause of the man’s lifelong sense of guilt about her death. He had been forced to have sex with her, and her death had followed shortly after. But none of this story would have emerged if Ms. Bartholic had done as most investigators do and stopped the regression after uncovering the story about the exchange of medicinal knowledge.

There are other cases in our files that show a similar deception at work in the initial hypnotic recall. We cannot trust that first memory, it is clear, for like so much else in the abduction experience, there may well be further maskings of events.

National UFO Alert: Eight states report 372 July cases

    (Before It's News)

    UFO Alert earth-vs-flying-saucers

The National UFO Alert Rating System has been updated for August 2014, with California, Texas, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Washington moving to a UFO Alert 2 or 3 as the highest reporting states during the month of July 2014, filed with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

California was the leading high-reporting state in July with 104 cases, down from 107 June cases, 102 May cases, 80 April cases, 103 March cases, 59 February cases, and 102 January cases – the single state listed as an Alert 2 with 100 or more cases. The other top reporting states had 25 or more cases and are an Alert 3. They are Texas, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York and Washington. Those states in a UFO Alert 4 category with 13 or more reports include: Missouri, Colorado, New Jersey, Illinois, Kentucky, Georgia, Indiana, Oregon, Arizona, Virginia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.

All other states move to a UFO Alert 5 category with lower numbers of UFO activity. The Watch States – with 10 or more cases – are New Mexico, Wisconsin, Maryland and Nevada.

MUFON released July statistics August 1, where the total number of reported UFO sightings is listed by state. The entire country was moved back to the lowest alert level – UFO Alert 5.

California takes the lead with 104 cases; Texas, 80; Michigan, 36; Florida, 32; Pennsylvania, 30; New York, 29; and Washington, 26.

Those states with 13 or more reports, the next reporting tier level, are a UFO Alert 4 status: Missouri, 24; Colorado, 24; New Jersey, 24; Illinois, 22; Kentucky, 18; Georgia, 17; Indiana, 17; Oregon, 15; Arizona, 14; Virginia, 14; South Carolina, 14; Alabama, 13; and Tennessee, 13.

Our Watch States this month are – with 10 reports or more: New Mexico, 12; Wisconsin, 11; Maryland, 10; and Nevada, 10.

    The sphere remains the most-reported UFO shape with 216 cases; up from 156 June cases; 129 May cases; 150 April cases, 131 March cases, 91 February cases; and 240 January cases. Other shape reports include: Circle, 103; Disc, 95; Star-Like, 81; Triangle, 79; Other, 73; Fireball, 72; Oval, 65; Unknown, 61; Cylinder, 25; N/A, 17; Cigar, 15; Diamond, 14; Flash, 12; Boomerang, 12; Blimp, 10; Cone, 7; Egg, 6; Teardrop, 6; Saturn-like, 3; Bullet-Missile, 3; Chevron, 2; and Cross, 1.

The object’s distance from the witness includes: Less than 100 feet, 126 cases; 101 to 500 feet, 133 cases; 501 feet to one mile, 205 cases; over one mile, 1252 cases; unknown, 330; and no value stated, 39.

In addition, there were “27 landings, hoverings, or takeoffs reported and 0 entities observed.”

The most interesting UFO reports do not necessarily come from high reporting states – but those states with higher numbers do account for some of the most interesting evidence to study. While UFO sightings seem to pop up randomly around the country, this list is meant to offer a small insight into where Americans are filing reports.

Hawaiian witness describes silent bell-shaped UFO

    (Before It's News)

A Hawaiian witness at Keaau reported watching a silent, bell-shaped UFO with two rows of lights less than 75 yards away, according to August 6, 2014, testimony in Case 58688 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside walking a dog about 4:30 a.m. on May 5, 2014, when he first saw two red lights side-by-side near the end of a dirt road and first assumed they were tail lights.

“They bounced in unison and then they bounced up and out of sight,” the witness stated. “While I thought it unusual, I wrote it off as a unique reflection.”

The witness points out that he has a background in sky watching.

“I’ve spent a lot of time on Mauna Kea by myself and volunteering to run the telescopes at the Visitor Center. I’ve counted a dozen satellites in one evening. I’ve seen illumination, signal and other types of flares from the military base. I’ve watched the ISS cruise over the mountain. I’ve seen teardrop meteors, moon bows and a sprite. I’ve seen just about everything that would make someone scream UFO. Only twice I’ve seen objects far up in the sky that I couldn’t explain due to its unique movements.”

Then 10 to 15 seconds after he saw the two red lights an object much closer got his attention.

“It was roughly 50 to 75 yards away. It was bell-shaped and lit up with the four aforementioned colors. I didn’t see it land or take off and it made no sound.”

The witnesses’ dog seemed to be unaware of the object.

“When I called my dog’s name it sounded as if I was in a vacuum – as if my voice was extremely loud and originated in front of me.”

    The witness described the object.

“It was roughly 15 feet tall and 10 feet across at the base. There were two strips of lights spinning in opposite directions. I could make out the shape but couldn’t make out any features because of the lights. The lights were very plasmatic in nature but the colors were very apparent and didn’t blend.”

Keaau is in Hawaii County, population 2,010. MUFON Hawaii is investigating. Hawaii has a current UFO Alert Rating of 5 with a low number of recent reports nationally. Hawaii had 3 UFO reports in June 2014 – the 36th highest reporting state – while California had 107 reports as the highest reporting state. The above quotes were edited for clarity. Please report UFO activity to MUFON.com.

The UFO Alert Rating System is based on five levels – 1 through 5 – where states with 150 or more reports for the month are rated an Alert 1; states with 100 or more reports are rated an Alert 2; 25 reports or more for the month are rated an Alert 3; 13 or more reports are rated an Alert 4; and those states with less than 13 reports for the month are an Alert 5.

VERY STRANGE ENCOUNTER IN OCEAN GROVE NEW JERSEY

    (Before It's News)

JULY 1964   …………..   OCEAN GROVE NEW JERSEY

I was with a friend as we were walking back to a rental cottage in Ocean Grove, NJ around midnight on a Saturday night. It was the Summer of 1964. On a perfectly clear cloudless night, we stopped to gaze at the millions of stars visible near the beach at night. Suddenly our attention went to a single “star” that was moving straight up. Then, it suddenly changed direction and moved straight down. It repeated this a few times. We knew it wasn’t a plane because panes don’t move like that, and as it was a small as a star, too far away to be a plane anyway. Suddenly a vapor trail began to come out of it- we stood as if glued in place. My friend thought it might be a skywriting plane, but I knew it wasn’t because it wasn’t writing anything, skywriters don’t write at night, and it was too far away to be a small plane.

Eventually the vapor trail began to descend. forming a large cloud-like shape. This “cloud” was easily as big as a house- oddly, although we could see the dark night sky through it, we could not see any stars- and we should have been able to see the stars. The rest of the night sky was filled with them. It was as if inside the cloud the stars became invisible. As it got larger, we realized it was getting CLOSER and at that point we heard a strange noise that I can only describe as sounding like hundreds of wheels and gears turning at the same time. The sound jolted us out of our lethargy and we began to run towards home. As we ran, we looked over our shoulders to see the “cloud” following us at about the level of the treetops.

There were NO cars on the street- at that time, Ocean Grove did not allow cars in or on its streets from midnight Saturday to midnight Sunday. They actually had village gates that were locked, and no cars were allowed to be parked on the streets either. No lights seemed to be on in any houses, and at that time Ocean Grove had no shops or stores that would be open at night. NO gas stations. No 7-11 or WaWa. There wasn’t a soul around. We heard the noise as the cloud followed us- we were laughing and crying at the same time. We were only about 2 blocks from the house we were staying at, so we reached the porch before the cloud reached us. We climbed up the stairs, bursting through the front door, waking my friend’s mother and grandmother. Of course, she was upset that we were crying- we told her we had gotten frightened walking home, We went to the room we shared, pulled open the shade and the cloud was right outside the window.

Hysterical by this time, we pulled the shade down and stayed up all night. We vowed never to tell anyone in authority (like police, etc) because no one would believe it wasn’t just two teenage girls who got scared walking home in the dark. To this day we remember it s clearly as the night it happened. We have lost touch over the years, but every once in a while we reconnect and remind each other about that night.

NOTE: The above image is a rendering.

This case is under investigation by Robert Spearing of MUFON New Jersey.

Westall UFO Revealed As Errant Secret Balloon…Roswell, Anyone?

    (Before It's News)

When I posted an article on the Westall UFO incident, I named it ‘Australia’s Roswell.’ Now, almost one year later, a ‘Roswellesque’ report has surfaced in order to explain the event. I first present the most recent article in the Herald Sun…then my post from last year:

Westall ‘UFO’ incident was actually government radiation testing, reports reveal

An almost 50-year-old mystery when more than 200 people believed they had a close encounter with a UFO landing in Clayton may have finally been solved after newly-unearthed government documents revealed a secret radiation-testing program.

Although federal and state government agencies refused to comment about the 1966 ‘Westall’ incident at the time, it is now believed that, rather than a UFO, what landed was an errant high altitude balloon used to monitor radiation levels after the controversial Maralinga nuclear tests.

The HIBAL program was a joint US-Australian initiative to monitor atmospheric radiation levels using large silver balloons equipped with sensors between 1960 and 1969.

Documents held by the National Archives and former Department of Supply indicate one test balloon launched from Mildura may have been blown off course and came down in Clayton South in a paddock near Westall High School, alarming and baffling hundreds of eyewitnesses, including teachers and students.

After hovering over the area, it landed at an area known as The Grange, behind a grove of pine trees, before taking off again and being pursued by several light aircraft in a sighting which lasted 20 minutes from 11am on April 6, 1966.

The event has ever since been shrouded in mystery.

But researcher Keith Basterfield, who has spent years investigating unexplained phenomenon in Australia, said a “runaway” balloon from the HIBAL (high altitude balloon) project was the likely answer.

Each test balloon lifted a 180kg payload consisting of an air sampling and telemetry unit in a gondola and was followed by a light aircraft tasked with tracking it and triggering its 12mtr parachute via radio signal.

Immediately after the Westall “UFO” sighting, reports emerged of Government men in suits converging on the area and asking school officials and other witnesses to not talk about the event.

A contemporary witness reported these “suits” stated what the students saw was part of a secret government exercise and that for national security reasons they were forbidden from discussing it.

“My hypothesis is that the incident involved not a UFO, but a high altitude balloon, it’s parachute and large payload,” Mr Basterfield said.

In a research paper completed this year, Mr Basterfield said a close review of all available documentation, including that searched through Freedom of Information laws, pointed to HIBAL flight number 292 as the real culprit.

“The Westall object was described as being a white/silver colour which could describe the colour of an HIBAL balloon or parachute.”

A witness account prior to the Westall sighting stated a flying object — trailing what appeared to be a long vacuum-like hose — was seen by a couple, whose surname was Frankie, near Smith’s Gully 40km north of Clayton South.

“HIBAL balloons were filled with gas through a thin tube which went to the top of the balloon and was left in place during the balloon flight,” Mr Basterfield said.

He said uncovered documents had also highlighted government concern about the potential damage if a heavy test balloon came down in a suburban area.

“The Department of External Affairs files on HIBAL reveal there was considerable discussion on possible damage to property or personnel by a HIBAL balloon,” Mr Basterfield said.

But despite government archival records showing the results of numerous HIBAL test flights, the paperwork for the launches scheduled for the day before Westall appear to have been lost or destroyed.

“What is strikingly missing is a memo reporting on the actual four launches for April 1966, one of which was scheduled for 5 April 1966, the day before Westall.

“So we have no (official) knowledge of where flight 292 went.” – Herald Sun

Australia’s Roswell: The Day the Earth Stood Still in Clayton South

    The Westall UFO Incident

Over 200 students and teachers witnessed an unexplained flying object on Wednesday 6th April 1966 around 11.00 am. They reported it descended into a nearby open wild grass field adjacent to a grove of pine trees in an area known as The Grange. The object then ascended in a north-westerly direction over the suburb of Clayton South.

Shane Ryan is a researcher looking for eyewitnesses. “It happened on the Wednesday before Easter, April 6, 1966, about 11 0’clock in the morning.

Around about 200 people, most of them students at what was then called Westall High School, were out for morning recess”, says Shane. “Many saw the strange object descend behind pine trees in The Grange Reserve, and then later ascend and fly away at great speed.

The people who ran over to the reserve found a huge ring in the paddock where the object had been seen.

Some people reported five light aircraft following or chasing the object.

Academic throws light on 40-year-old UFO mystery

Just what did flash out of the sky and into the lives of hundreds that April day? Stephen Cauchi reports.

A Canberra academic is investigating one of Australia’s most compelling UFO mysteries, a sighting by hundreds of people in the Melbourne suburb of Westall on April 6, 1966.

More than 200 students and staff from two schools watched as the object landed in a nearby paddock, lifted off and vanished.

Shane Ryan, an English lecturer at the University of Canberra, is interviewing dozens of witnesses for a book he hopes to publish on the 40th anniversary of the sighting.

Mr Ryan, 38, was alerted to the events in the 1980s by a housemate who was there. Unlike most UFO sightings, the Westall object had a large number of credible witnesses. It was viewed in daylight and attracted a forceful response from police and the RAAF.

“It had these rather interesting elements which indicated to me that, unlike some other so-called UFO stories, there was some substance to this,” he told The Sunday Age.

“I knew the 40th anniversary was coming up next year, so I thought it was timely to do some research on it.”

Mr Ryan has interviewed about 30 witnesses, mostly former staff and students from the Westall secondary and primary schools. He has tried obtaining police and RAAF reports, but so far with little luck. The story was covered then by Channel Nine, The Age and local newspapers.

On the UFO, everyone seems to agree, Mr Ryan says. It was a low-flying, silver/grey shining object, either of classical flying saucer shape or close to it, “a cup turned upside down on a saucer”. The students were familiar with light aircraft because the schools were close to Moorabbin Airport. Although the UFO was of similar size, “everyone said straight away that they knew it was not a plane”, Mr Ryan said, nor a weather balloon.

The object was in view for up to 20 minutes, and many saw it descend. Most agree it landed behind pine trees at the Grange Reserve. Dozens of students ran across what was then an open paddock to the reserve to investigate, but the object had lifted off and vanished.

Other details are sketchier. The UFO appears to have left a circle of scorched grass; others say several circles were left in paddocks bordering Grange Reserve.

Many witnesses, not all, report seeing aircraft, up to five, trailing the UFO. Some say it made no sound, others say it did.

Many reported that police/air force/military personnel inspected the site; some (not all) say the authorities burnt the site. The Dandenong Journal, for which the story was front-page news two weeks in a row, reported that “students and staff have been instructed to ‘talk to no-one’ about the incident”. Nevertheless, one teacher, Andrew Greenwood, gave the paper a detailed account.

“It was silvery-grey and seemed to thicken at times,” he said. “The thickening was similar to when a disc is turned a little to show the underside.”

One of the closest witnesses was a boy whose family leased land at Grange Reserve for horses.

Shaun Matthews (not a student at Westall) was on holidays and spending time on the land.

“I saw the thing come across the horizon and drop down behind the pine trees,” he told The Sunday Age this week. “I couldn’t tell you what it was. It certainly wasn’t a light aircraft or anything of the like …

“I saw the thing drop down behind the pine trees and saw it leave again. I couldn’t tell you how long it was there for, it was such a long time ago.”

Mr Matthews, 51 and now living in Greenvale, said the object “went up and off very very rapidly”.

“I went over and there was a circle in the clearing. It looked like it had been cooked or boiled, not burnt as I remember,” he said. “A heap of kids from Westall primary and high school came charging through to see what had happened — ‘look at this, look at that, we saw it as well’, that sort of thing. It was a bit of a talking point for a couple of days.”

Mr Matthews said the object, about the size of “two family cars”, passed him at a distance of about “four football fields”. “It was silvery, but it had a sort-of purple hue to it, very bright, but not bright enough that you couldn’t look at it,” he said.

“I saw that it dropped down behind the trees, and I thought, ‘hello, hang on’. A minute or so later, it went straight up, just gone.”

He said police and other officials interviewed his mother. But he cannot remember them burning the landing site, as others have alleged. And he did not see any light aircraft trailing the object, as others did.

“The way this thing moved there is no way it could have been a weather balloon or a light aircraft,” he said.

A helicopter? No way — no noise, wrong shape, and it didn’t move like it. It came out of the distance, stopped, and then just dropped.

“It didn’t just sort of cruise and then slightly descend at an angle. It just stopped, dropped, and then went straight up.”

The Victorian UFO Research Society investigated the incident. VUFORS secretary Tony Cook said Westall remained one of Australia’s major unexplained UFO cases.

The top one was the case of Frederick Valentich, a 20-year-old Melbourne pilot whose light plane disappeared while flying over Bass Strait in 1978.

In the last minutes of radio communication, Valentich reported seeing a UFO hovering above his plane. He and his craft were never recovered.

“It’s pretty well documented,” Mr Cook said. “That’s probably the most important one because it involves the disappearance of a person.”

Mr Cook said the society’s stance on UFOs was that, “there are people out there seeing unusual things in the sky at times and they can’t be explained. But it’s a very big leap to go from unexplained things in the sky to extraterrestrials.”

Most witnesses, including Mr Matthews, say the UFO was not an aircraft or helicopter. But Westall is only six kilometres from Moorabbin Airport, and the object was roughly headed in that direction, travelling north to south.

“It sounds to me like some sort of experimental craft, very much Earth-based,” Steve Roberts, of Australian Skeptics, said.

“It is an interesting event with lots of witnesses and what we now call a crop circle.

“Accounts are confused. Some have the object landing and taking off again, others say ‘a paddock over which the object seemed to hover’.”

As well, “if there was a whole swag of officials investigating it, there must be an official report in RAAF archives somewhere”.

But Mr Ryan said that no one at the RAAF knew of the incident.

But given the history of the case — the way students and staff were told to keep quiet from the start — that was not surprising, he said.

“As I got a little bit older, I got a little more interested in the social and historical aspects of the story, how something like this could have happened and how it reflected society at the time, and how authorities responded to it,” he said.

“There’s been a layer of secrecy that was very, very prominent in this story from the beginning.”

Polaroid photo of UFO over South Clayton taken 4 days before reported Westall High School incident

Shane Ryan is a researcher looking for eyewitnesses to the 1966 Westall UFO incident, on the Wednesday before Easter, April 6, 1966, about 11 0’clock in the morning.

Say the name Roswell and 774’s Breakfast presenter Red Symons immediately thinks of metal objects shooting through the sky landing in the desert, and little green men coming out of them. But when you say the name Clayton South, you probably think pork buns, unless you were around in 1966 and were one of 200 people who witnessed the Westall UFO incident.

“It’s an interesting case because there was this trace left behind which not only those kids saw, but a whole number of people who came afterwards, after school and adults and so forth came down to have a look at it as well.”

A crop circle perhaps? “Some people call it that,” continues Shane, “I’m not sure that it was, but it was certainly a ring left behind in the grass. And the other fascinating aspect of the story is that some people talk about the area being cordoned off by people in uniform.”

Several witnesses reported being spoken to by the RAAF or military, including the school’s science teacher, who was apparently threatened by two RAAF officers under the Official Secrets Act, if he spoke in public about what he had seen. The high school authorities dealt very harshly with both students and staff in the wake of this event, and forbade any discussion about it.

Shane has now established an email discussion group to encourage people to come forward and tell their stories about that day. About 45 people have made contact thus far. A lot of former Westall school students and two or three of the teachers. This group is dedicated to those people who were involved in, or have an interest in the incident at Westall High School, in the Melbourne suburb of Clayton South. He is especially keen to hear from people from “the other side”, that is from the side of the authorities who may have been involved that day, such as RAAF, police or army.

Clayton South residents remember the 1966 day they saw flying objects

heraldsun – Flying saucers, crop circles, missing film, disappearing files, denials, military cover-ups, threats and shadowy Men in Black.

    It couldn’t happen here?

Most people would say it couldn’t happen anywhere!

But more than 100 witnesses to one of the world’s biggest UFO mysteries are adamant that it did, in broad daylight in Clayton South on April 6, 1966.

And 44 years after the event, many are still fuming that the military they say were swarming around the scene for days have offically denied the incident and no record appears to exist.

They say they spent their lives being doubted and want some official acknowledgment that something weird happened above and behind Westall high and primary schools that morning.

London’s Telegraph newspaper rates it as the fifth-greatest UFO mystery of all time, but another mystery is how little-known the episode is here.

A documentary – Westall ’66:  A Suburban UFO Mystery – premieres on Austar and Foxtel’s Sci-Fi Channel at 8.30pm tomorrow.

Producers hope it will flush out an official who can say what the military were doing and what they found.

Researcher Shane Ryan has spent five years tracking 110 witnesses, many found through an appeal in the Herald Sun in 2006, but could find no military officials, and no record of a military response.

But locals remember it vividly, saying it lasted days.

The 110 Mr Ryan has found who say they saw saucers include professionals, tradies and a Ministerial Adviser, but not one military official of the time.

He says time is running out for them to come clean.

“Whatever security concerns there were at the time, they are redundant now,” he says.

A TV crew covered the incident and it screened on the 6pm news, but the film canister from the job was recently found empty in the station archives.

Several witnesses say they were warned off speaking by sharply-dressed men in dark suits, in the principal’s office and at home.

Others recall school threats of detention for UFO talk.

But talk there was, and coverage.

The Dandenong Journal reported the incident on its front page for consecutive issues and ran interviews with witnesses.

Many were school pupils who say they saw flying saucers from their school yards. Some ran to Grange Reserve, where the craft appeared to have come down.

Terry Peck, 56, was among them. She says she was playing cricket on the oval, saw the saucer and chased after it to Grange Reserve.

“Two girls were there before me. One was terribly upset and they were pale, really white, ghostly white. They just said they had passed out, fainted. One was taken to hospital in an ambulance,” she says.

Ms Peck says she saw a silver, classic-shape saucer rise up.

“I was about 6m away from it. It was bigger than a car and circular. I think I saw some lights underneath it.

“We all got called to an assembly … and they told us all to keep quiet.

“I’d absolutely just like someone to come forward from the services just to say ‘yes, it did happen, and it landed and there was a cover-up’.”

Jacqueline Argent, 58, in Form 3 then, says she saw a UFO from the oval and was one of the first three kids over the fence looking for where it came down.

“Originally I thought it must have been an experimental-type aircraft, but nothing has emerged like that after all these years,” she said.

She says she was called into the headmaster’s office and interrogated by three men: “They had good-quality suits and were well spoken. They said, ‘I suppose you saw little green men’?

“I spoke to my parents about it at the time and they were pretty outraged.”

Retired engineer Kevin Hurley, a Monash Uni student then, missed the saucers but saw the aftermath.

“There were army or air force people in the area,” he said.

“I’m pretty sure they were going around the area with geiger counters or metal detectors.

“I’m not a freak that thinks Martian people are coming. I don’t think that kind of stuff, but it’s bugged me.

“After 44 years, I reckon they need to come clean on this.”

    Revisting the Westall UFO Incident

    B4INREMOTE-aHR0cDovLzEuYnAuYmxvZ3Nwb3QuY29tLy1jVEllSndOWURNNC9UZXp3TGdZV0JHSS9BQUFBQUFBQVlray9xdlRCdHltWnhaYy9zMTYwMC93ZXN0YWxsMi5KUEc=

The article said witnesses had seen a number of small planes circle around the object – however, a check later showed that no commercial, private or RAAF pilots had reported anything unusual in the area.

But despite the many witnesses, exactly what happened at 11am that day in Cold War-era Melbourne suburbia has remained a mystery.

Suzanne Savage, who was in form 2 at Westall High in 1966, recalls principal Frank Samblebe holding a special assembly after she and her science class saw a ”classic saucer-shaped object” descend into Grange Reserve and then disappear into the sky.

”He said he didn’t want to hear any more about this nonsense. We were not to discuss it ever again – and so I didn’t,” Ms Savage told The Saturday Age.

Ian Cochrane, who was in form 3 at Westall High in 1966, also believes the bizarre occurrence was covered up.

Mr Cochrane recalls returning to Grange Reserve the following Saturday to show his mates the perfect circle of flattened grass, only to discover the site had been dug up.

”If you talked about it you’d get nutbags to contend with, or people who couldn’t cope, so you just didn’t talk about it,” Mr Cochrane said.

What did the students see? Was it a UFO from outer space, a secret military aircraft, a meteorological oddity or an example of a psychological phenomenon, where people were influenced by each other to believe in something they did not really see?

Forty-five years later Shane Ryan is still searching for answers. The English teacher has spent the past six years investigating the flying saucer enigma, which he believes ranks alongside the daylight school-based UFO sightings in Broad Haven in Wales in 1974 and Ruwa in Zimbabwe in 1994.

”It’s obvious to me people saw something very strange and unusual and somebody in the government didn’t really want the story to get out,” he said.

Mr Ryan has interviewed more than 300 people connected to the case, 89 of whom claim they saw a flying saucer and 138 who saw the circle. He said several witnesses told of police and men in military uniforms who cordoned off the landing site and interviewed some students.

However, despite extensive searches, Mr Ryan has been unable to find police or military personnel who attended on the day or locate documents that may be held by state and federal government agencies.

”I’m so frustrated that after all these years I can’t get an official answer about why the powers that be were there that day and why they didn’t want the students to talk about what they saw,” he said.

Mr Ryan’s search for the truth is the subject of the documentary Westall 66: A Suburban UFO Mystery, directed by Rosie Jones, which will screen at 8.30pm on Tuesday on the Sci Fi Channel on Foxtel and Austar.

The Australian Teachers of Media have also created a study guide around the event, which can be used in the national history curriculum.

The study guide says Westall 66 reflects a fascinating and pivotal period in world history. ”With its undercurrent of Cold War paranoia, secret US airbases and a strong military relationship between Australia and America, this story raises questions about the acceptability of cover-ups and untruths delivered by governments in the interests of national security,” it says.

Study guide co-writer Lee Burton says these are themes that have repercussions today. ”This is an example of how we can help students understand an historical event within a local community that occurred in living memory,” she said. ”My guess is it will be very popular.” – theage

    Odd figure on the Moon

Remember the 1967 NASA image referred to as “The Shard”? A strange and very large tower type figure that appeared in one still image captured by Lunar Orbiter III (I think). Well, this thing spotted by Jasenko could be eerily similar. An irregularly shaped dark spot he noticed on Google Moon looks like it could be a cast shadow from a massive standing object, or figure. At first I thought maybe it was something drawn into the picture but after going to G. Moon, whatever it is or isn’t.. uh, is there. You get the idea. Go check it out and of course decide for yourself. Debunk it, shred it, figure it out.

    Thanks Jasenko!

    Something weird about my neighbor

I’m a 20 year-old aspiring filmmaker. I’m dropping out of college and just recently moved to LA to pursue a career in movies. My grandparents live out here and were generous enough to let me move in with them temporarily until I can afford my own place. So now it’s just me and my grandparents living in this enormous old house of theirs. The property is on a corner, surrounded by tall hedges and various plants and trees. There’s also a small “guest house” out back beyond some trees which my grandparents sold back in the 70′s. There’s an elderly man, Mr. Heedy, who’s lived there since then. He and his deceased wife are old family friends–I remember seeing them both on a few occasions when I came to visit my grandparents as a child. Mr. Heedy and my grandfather used to talk in the driveway about fixing cars and stuff like that while Mrs. Heedy sat in a rocking chair on the porch. I never saw her get up or walk around. Mr. Heedy would sometimes give me candy bars, which I more than appreciated as a little kid, but he would also “playfully” scare me as many adults do with children–joking about the ghost of a dead cat that my grandparents owned back when my mom was a teenager, or shushing me when I was outside playing with my cousins because “the flowers won’t like it.” One time he picked a bright pink flower from his garden and gave it to me, warning me to behave myself and be a proper little boy so the flower wouldn’t get angry and poison me. I had (and still have) an overactive imagination, which probably explains my nightmare, but it still bothers me to this day: that night, I had a dream where I was standing at the edge of a forest, looking out at a field of the pink flowers, and I remember feeling terror because the flowers were everywhere and were releasing pollen into the air so everyone would get poisoned and die. I only had that dream once, but ever since then it’s been burned into my memory.

Mr. Heedy’s wife got sick with something and died back in the early 2000′s, and after that Mr. Heedy became something of a shut-in. He rarely leaves the guest house, and when he does, according to my grandparents, it’s only to work in the garden and keep the flowers watered. This is what’s been bugging me since I moved in late last week: as far as I can tell, he never even leaves the property to buy groceries. I don’t know how he eats; he’s literally in his house all the time. Two nights ago, I decided to pull an all-nighter to see if maybe he went out at all during that time. This is where it gets really strange.

At around 3am, while I was in my room watching a movie on my laptop, I thought I heard someone singing. I just assumed it was one of the audio tracks in the movie. But this happened two more times again while I was watching, and when the movie was over and I took my headphones off, I heard it again. It was more like chanting, coming from outside. I stood up and walked over to the window, and for a moment I even laughed to myself and wondered if maybe my neighbor was a Satan-worshipper like in Rosemary’s Baby or something like that. Then I looked down out the window and saw the guest house through the trees. The main room of the house looked like it was lit up by candles, too dim to make out anything inside. The chanting was coming loud and clear from inside the house. If horror movies have taught me anything, the chanting was probably in Latin, but I couldn’t understand any words (I took four years of Latin in school). While I was watching the house, I heard footsteps down below in the dirt next to the side of the house, and I looked down to see a shadowy figure (remember, it was really, really dark out) walking in a weird way up to it–sort of staggering, the way a toddler just learning to walk would–and then stopping at the front door, where it just stood there, perfectly still, for the next hour, during which time the chanting occasionally subsided and then came back. As you can imagine, I was already scared shitless, but what happened next almost gave me a genuine heart attack. The figure turned its head about 135 degrees to the right and was looking at something. I followed its gaze down the path to the house and saw a second figure CRAWLING on the ground up to the porch like a spider. At this point I actually gasped and jumped back from the window and broke out in a cold sweat. I’ve never felt more scared in my whole life. For a long time I just stood there in the middle of my room with my hands over my mouth, breathing heavily and feeling my heart pound against my chest, afraid to look back out the window or to move in any direction.

Eventually the sun came up and I heard the comforting sounds of birds chirping and cars driving by. I tried lying down on my bed to sleep, but couldn’t. I waited until it was bright out and I could hear my grandparents walking about downstairs and making breakfast before I decided to get up again. I glanced out the window at Mr. Heedy’s house. Everything was normal again. Anyway, the rest of the day went by as usual, and the events of the night before started to just feel like a bad dream. That night I was so exhausted that I didn’t even try to stay awake again and just slept all the way through. I’m pulling another all-nighter right now while I’m writing this and so far no chanting or anything from the guest house. I might try to get some sleep if nothing happens, but if it does, I’ll post an update sometime later. – Reddit.com

Dead koala with $50 stuffed in mouth dumped at police station

Police are investigating whether the dumping of a dead koala outside a police station in Victoria’s south-west with $50 stuffed in its mouth is linked to a crackdown on drug crime in the region.

Sergeant Jason Von Tunk, who the discovered the koala’s body, says he was working alone at the Heywood police station on Saturday night when he heard a thud outside.

He said he went outside to investigate and found the animal dead in the driveway with money in its mouth.

“I went to investigate what it was and I saw a motionless koala in the drive way, and I looked around and couldn’t see anyone,” Sergeant Von Tunk said.

He continued: “Then I, on closer inspection, saw a $50 note stuffed in its mouth. It’s sickening, it’s morbid, if it is a joke, it’s certainly not funny. I just can’t understand it.”

Sergeant Von Tunk said he called in another officer from the nearby Portland police station to help establish a motive.

“The money itself, there was no note attached to it or anything, so we can only think that it’s some sort of sinister thing, it’s rather morbid,” he said.

“But without anyone coming forward we’re left in the lurch as to who, what, where and why.”

But he said the incident could be related to drug investigations.

“There’s a number of suspicions I can cast on and none of them have been ruled out, and certainly drugs, but also some sort of protest group or even a prank, I couldn’t tell you,” he said.

Sergeant Von Tunk said the koala had head injuries but he did not think it was killed deliberately.

“We weren’t able to determine how the koala died, but there didn’t appear to be any cruelty aspects to it,” he said.

“It appears that it could’ve just been run over and it was an opportunistic way to just get it off the side of the road, put $50 in its mouth and just throw it at the police station.” – abc.net.au

    UFOs: A True Unknown

    (Before It's News)

What constitutes a good, solid and credible UFO incident? That’s a very good question, and one I get asked now and again. Well, my answer would be that such a case would, ideally, have the support of a number of witnesses, some form of evidence that can be analyzed, and on the record individuals whose words we can refer to and study. And, for me, this is typified by a highly notable affair that falls into this particular category, and which will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in just a few months from now…

On both July 19 and 20, 1952, there were repeated sightings of unknown aerial objects in the Washington, D.C., airspace, something that, on July 24, led USAF Major General John A. Samford to state in a Secret memorandum for the attention of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations: “We are interested in these reports in that we must always on the alert for any threat or indication of a threat to the United States. We cannot ignore these reports but the mild hysteria subsequent to publicity given this subject causes an influx of reports which since the 19th of July has almost saturated our ‘Emergency’ procedures.”

The situation really escalated after the weekend of July 26-27. A two-page USAF document, prepared only days later, related the facts: “This incident involved unidentified targets observed on the radar scopes at the Air Route Traffic Control Center and the tower, both at Washington National Airport, and the Approach Control Radar at Andrews Air Force Base. In addition, visual observations were reported to Andrews and Bolling AFB and to ARTC Center, the latter by pilots of commercial aircraft and one CAA aircraft…”

    The report continues:

“Varying numbers (up to 12 simultaneously) of u/i targets on ARTC radar scope. Termed by CAA personnel as ‘generally solid returns’, similar to a/c except slower. Mr. Bill Schreve, flying a/c NC-12 reported at 2246 EDT that he had visually spotted 5 objects giving off a light glow ranging from orange to white; his altitude at time was 2,200’. Some commercial pilots reported visuals ranging from ‘cigarette glow’ to a ‘light…”

And the deep strangeness only continued, as the USAF noted:

“ARTC crew commented that, as compared with u/i returns picked up in early hours of 20 July 52, these returns appeared to be more haphazard in their actions, i.e. they did not follow a/c around nor did they cross scope consistently on same general heading. Some commented that the returns appeared to be from objects ‘capable of dropping out of the pattern at will’. Also that returns had ‘creeping appearance’. One member of crew commented that one object to which F-94 was vectored just ‘disappeared from Scope’ shortly after F-94 started pursuing. All crew members emphatic that most u/i returns have been picked up from time to time over the past few months but never before had they appeared in such quantities over such a prolonged period and with such definition as was experienced on the nights of 19/20 and 26/27 July 1952.”

Although the portions extracted from this report speak for themselves, let us now examine an official transcript of a conversation, dated July 26, between staff at Washington National Airport and personnel from Andrews Air Force Base at the time of the sightings:

Wash: “Andrews Tower, do you read? Did you have an airplane in sight west-northwest or east of your airport eastbound?”

Andr: “No, but we just got a call from the Center. We’re looking for it.”

Wash: “We’ve got a big target showing up on our scope. He’s just coming in on the west edge of your airport – the northwest edge of it eastbound. He’ll be passing right through the northern portion of your field on an east heading. He’s about a quarter of a mile from the northwest runway – right over the edge of your runway now.”

Andr: “This is Andrews. Our radar tracking says he’s got a big fat target out here northwest of Andrews. He says he’s got two more south of the field.”

Wash: “Yes, well the Center has about four or five around the Andrews Range Station. The Center is working a National Airlines – the Center is working him and vectoring him around his target. He went around Andrews. He saw one of them – looks like a meteor…went by him…or something. He said he’s got one about three miles off his right wing right now. There are so many targets around here it is hard to tell as they are not moving very fast.”

Within a matter of hours of hearing of the events of July 26-27, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover instructed N.W. Philcox, the FBI’s Air Force liaison representative, to determine what had taken place and to ascertain the Air Force’s opinions on the UFO subject as a whole.

On July 29, Philcox made arrangements through the office of the Director of Air Intelligence, Major General John A. Samford, to meet with Commander Randall Boyd of the Current Intelligence Branch, Estimates Division, Air Intelligence, regarding “the present status of Air Intelligence research into the numerous reports regarding flying saucers and flying discs.”

Although the Air Force was publicly playing down the possibility that UFOs were anything truly extraordinary, Philcox was advised that “at the present time the Air Force has failed to arrive at any satisfactory conclusion in its research regarding numerous reports of flying saucers and flying discs sighted throughout the United States.”

Philcox was further informed that Air Intelligence had set up at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, the Air Technical Intelligence Center, which had been established in part for the purpose of “coordinating, correlating and making research into all reports regarding flying saucers and flying discs.”

As Philcox listened very carefully to what Boyd had to say on the matter, he noted that the Air Force had placed their UFO reports into three definable categories. In the first instance there were those sightings “which are reported by citizens who claim they have seen flying saucers from the ground. These sightings vary in description, color and speeds. Very little credence is given to these sightings inasmuch as in most instances they are believed to be imaginative or some explainable object which actually crossed through the sky.”

Philcox then learned that the second category of encounters proved to be of greater significance: “Sightings reported by commercial or military pilots. These sightings are considered more credible by the Air Force inasmuch as commercial or military pilots are experienced in the air and are not expected to see objects which are entirely imaginative. In each of these instances, the individual who reports the sightings is thoroughly interviewed by a representative of Air Intelligence so that a complete description of the object can be obtained.”

The third category of encounters, Boyd advised Philcox, were those where, in addition to a visual sighting by a pilot, there was corroboration either from a ground-based source or by radar. Philcox wrote to Hoover: “Commander Boyd advised that this latter classification constitutes two or three per cent of the total number of sightings, but that they are the most credible reports received and are difficult to explain.”

“In these instances,” Philcox was told, “there is no doubt that these individuals reporting the sightings actually did see something in the sky.” And to demonstrate that Boyd was well acquainted with the UFO issue on a worldwide scale, he confided in Philcox that “sightings have also recently been reported as far distant as Acapulco, Mexico, Korea and French Morocco… the sightings reported in the last classification have never been satisfactorily explained.”

The commander then came out with a true bombshell, as Philcox noted in his report on the meeting: “[Boyd] advised that it is not entirely impossible that the objects may possibly be ships from another planet such as Mars.”

Clearly, within both the military and the Intelligence community of the day, there was deep concern about the Washington events – something which led to the development of startling and intriguing theories, and the analysis of countless data. So, collectively, this is why – in my opinion – the July 1952 encounters over the nation’s capital were evidence of true unknowns in our very midst…
