The Federal Bureau of Investigation broke its silence about a memo, dated March 22, 1950, addressed to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover from FBI Agent Guy Hottel about UFOs in Roswell, N.M., in 947.

The one-page memo detailed information from an official investigator for the U.S. Air Force. The FBI document is online with other UFO reports at: http://vault.fbi.gov/UFO. Here is what Agent Hottel, who was head of the field office in Washington, D.C., reported to the FBI director:

“An investigator for the Air Force stated that three so-called flying saucers had been recovered in New Mexico. They were described as being circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet in diameter. Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only 3 feet tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed fliers and test pilots.

“According to Mr. (edited out) informant, the saucers were found in New Mexico due to the fact that the Government has a very high-powered radar set-up in that area and it is believed the radar interferes with the controlling mechanism of the saucers. No further evaluation was attempted by (edited out) concerning the above.”

Was this “investigator for the Air Force” fabricating this story? Did the FBI agent fail to include in his report that someone else had told this story to the investigator, as critics claim? The memo said nothing about second-hand information.

For some people, the fact that this story was reported by an FBI official to the FBI director and was not immediately disregarded as utter nonsense, but instead became classified information, gives some credence to the claim that something out of the ordinary had happened.

It seems astonishing that on the day the Air Force discovered the debris, with enough time to examine the materials, they would issue a national press release stating that a flying saucer had been captured and offered photos of soldiers examining a metallic-looking object. Then at a press conference later that same day in Ft. Worth, Texas, the Air Force suddenly recanted the entire story, announcing instead that the debris was simply pieces of a weather balloon.

A few days later, on July 9, 947, the Roswell Daily Chronicle interviewed W.W. “Mac” Brazel, the rancher who first found the wreckage. A frustrated Brazel was quoted as saying, “I am sure what I found was not any weather observation balloon. But if I find anything else besides a bomb they are going to have a hard time getting me to say anything about it.”

Years later, a number of government officials close to the case came forward to tell stories of their participation in an alleged cover-up of the Roswell incident. Although the FBI may or may not have been interested in looking into the Air Force investigator’s claims, a July 1950 FBI statement made it clear that, “The jurisdiction and responsibility for investigating flying saucers have been assumed by the United States Air Force. Information received in this matter is immediately turned over to the Air Force, and the FBI does not attempt to investigate these reports or evaluate the information furnished.”

The Roswell incident took place during a rash of sightings of unexplained flying objects reported across the country. But after the “balloon” crash — from 947 to 1954 — the FBI worked with the Air Force on documenting all UFO sightings nationwide. Many of these reports are now available to the public on the FBI’s new electronic reading room, “The Vault.”

To set the record straight, however, this one-page report is not a newly released document. A retired U.S. Navy optical physicist named Bruce Maccabee, who is also an investigator of UFO photographs and visual evidence, had obtained the Hottel memo from the FBI in 1977, through the Freedom of Information Act, and wrote about it in his book, “UFO-FBI Connection,” released in 2000!

So why is this FBI-UFO story appearing in newspapers across the country as if it was recently released? According to the FBI, when they launched their redesigned electronic reading room in April 2011, “some media outlets noticed Agent Hottel’s memo and erroneously reported that the FBI had posted proof of a UFO crash at Roswell, New Mexico and the recovery of wreckage and alien corpses.”

The results? That one-page document is again making news for becoming the most popular file in The Vault, with nearly a million views in two years. But here’s another result: People can’t help but wonder how numerous military and FBI activities could be launched by the crashing of a simple weather balloon? Why would any government official close to the case insist there is more to the story than the public knows and suggest the government is hiding something? Why are some things about this case still classified?

Yes, the truth is out there. But, like many unidentified flying objects, the truth appears and reappears, until someone is brave enough and honest enough to identify it, and if necessary, fight for it. Most people, however, cannot handle the truth.

Thousands of Airline Pilots Witness UFOs

It is an ongoing experience
Airline pilots see unidentified flying objects but very few report it because of ridicule.

According to the National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena, (NARCAP) there have been over 3,500 documented sightings of “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” by military, commercial, and civilian pilots. But Captain Jim Courant, a commercial pilot for over 31 years, says there are many more sightings that are just not reported.

“It is almost astounding how many people are in the know on this subject,” he said, speaking before the Citizens Hearing on Disclosure at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on May 3.

Courant has been researching and studying the phenomena of UFOs for years. He has collected over 3,000 books on UFOs and extraterrestrials, and hosted a television series on the issue titled “New Perspectives” which ran for three years.

He still flies for a commercial airline and because of his exposure on television has became known as an authority on UFO’s and extraterrestrial encounters.He has been contacted, and still is, by many commercial airline and military pilots who are happy to discuss their UFO’s encounters privately but do not want to talk publicly, fearing ridicule and in some cases retaliation.

“They are afraid,” not so much about their status or their retirement benefits, but “they are more afraid for their families,” he said.

He described the experience of one pilot who was flying a 747 over the Pacific in 980, when he came across a UFO in front of him.

“You won’t believe what we saw,” the pilot had said, according to Courant. “This thing was bigger than a 747.”

Courant said the pilot told him that when he got to his destination in Japan, he “was debriefed and told never to talk about it again.”

Courant told the hearing about his own encounter with a UFO. In 1995, he was flying near Albuquerque, New Mexico, when he and his co-pilot saw a blue green oval shape approaching from the left. “In a flash of burning white light, the object suddenly shot up at a 45 degree angle,” he told the hearing.

Four other pilots reported to the air traffic control tower that they had also seen the object.

“One pilot said it must have been a meteor,” Courant recounted, adding, “I got on and said ‘Since when does a meteor go back up?’”

When asked about his co-pilot’s reaction in a telephone conversation following the Disclosure hearing, Courant said, “He refused to discuss it and has never flown with me again.”

Courant said pilots have reported seeing a variety of craft that appear suddenly and move at speeds impossible with present technology. Reports include cigar-shaped craft, triangular craft, and some that are the size of an aircraft carrier or larger.

He says airline pilots are “very serious in their profession” and not likely to make exaggerations.

The website NARCAP, co-founded in 1999 by Dr. Richard F. Haines, a recognized specialist in UFOs and a former Chief Scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center, has been effective at documenting sightings, but Courant says more needs to be done.

UFO sightings are only “the tip of the iceberg” in terms of what has been experienced and what is known about extraterrestrials, he said.

“There are certain things I have been privy to, but I can’t get into that here,” he told the hearing.

Courant said it was time for the United States government to come clean with what its agencies have documented and learned through decades of extraterrestrial encounters.

Airline pilots know what they have seen, he said, and should be able to talk about it without fear of ridicule.

Boy 2 sees it, but first thinks nothing of it. Boy 1 convinces Boy 2 to run up to the balcony of Boy 1’s upper floor room in order to look at it closer. As it disappears into a local forest, the boys run up, grabbing pocket camera (Boy 1) and binoculars (Boy 2). Once on the balcony, the object discribed reappears from the forest and silently glides over the roof of Boy 1’s house and disappears into the night. The boy’s spend the evening searching the sky for other ships.

NASA astronauts confirm knowledge of UFOs

Aside from the numerous incidents that sometimes left US armed forces pilots dead, missing, or simply stunned in the wake of pursuing the enigmatic UFO during the late 1940’s and through out the 1950’s it would take some time before NASA mission astronauts would begin to acknowledge the truth as well. Probably one of the first US astronauts to report the existence of UFOs in the vicinity of his craft was Joe Walker, a seasoned test pilot who flew in the X-15 program. Incident occurred in 1962.

Joe Walker, made a public statement after seeing objects he could not identify that were pacing his high speed space plane. The X-15 was probably the fastest manned experimental test plane ever flown by the pilot himself attaining speeds of 5000 mph and altitudes exceeding 100,000 feet. It was the first manned craft to transition from the earth’s atmosphere to the very fringes of space and then re-enter the earth’s atmosphere and land. The astronaut did this without the modern onboard assistance of flight computers automatically adjusting the spacecraft in-flight. Today’s complex fighter aircraft and space re-entry craft have computer aided in-flight control making split second adjustments that a human pilot could never manage.
NASA’s official version of test pilot, Joe Walker’s, report was that he was seeing frozen fuel or ice that had broken off the fuselage of the craft and were gliding alongside the X-15. Walker did not agree with that assertion by authorities and on another mission again reported a sighting. Walker would later die in a fatal episode while flight testing the Valkerie XB-70, a high speed, high altitude bomber for Rockwell International. According to Chuck Yeager, the first pilot ever to break the sound barrier, and a World War II ace in air to air combat, Walker was a cocky individual, who didn’t like to take advice, advice that could have saved his life.

Chuck Yeager himself, who had flown the Bell X-1 to a speed of mach 1.3 in 1947 had admitted to not only seeing UFOs but using code phrases with control tower operators in order to pursue the occasional unknown object during his test flights, but he never made an official statement. He did say, publicly that those pilots who did report UFOs rarely received promotions or experienced promising career opportunities as a result. I met a relative of Brigadier General Retired, Chuck Yeager, who said that only to friends and family did he ever admit to seeing UFOs or chasing them in air to air engagements while involved in test flights.

One of the original Mercury Project astronauts, Deke Slayton, admitted years after his experiences with the program that as a pilot in 1951, he had an encounter. As he was approaching a runway to land, Slayton, piloting a P-51 Mustang spotted an unidentified aerial object, aborted his landing, and pursued the strange airborne anomaly. He attempted to make a high speed turn in order to intercept the UFO, but said that his prop driven fighter was no match for the mysterious intruder.

Mercury program astronaut Gordon Cooper reported numerous encounters with UFOs stating that when stationed in Germany in the mid 1950’s flying the F-86 he and his squadrons were scrambled on many occasions to intercept high flying objects that simply outclassed their capabilities. Later in his career while assigned to Area 51, Cooper reported the attempted landing of an unknown craft that once settled on the ground close to his photographical team, immediately took off when his men raced toward it. Colonel Cooper reported that under orders, he immediately expedited the film footage of the event to high command, but was told never to speak of the incident again, and subsequent inquiries on his part were never answered in the weeks afterward by his superiors. Such is the case with military policy in the realm of the UFO. Cooper became a much sought after authority by many investigators of UFO evidence in the years to come.

Astronaut James McDivitt publicly stated that, “UFOs are out there.” He said this while among reporters in Dallas. During a Gemini Mission in the two man spacecraft while in orbit, contact was made. He and fellow astronaut Ed White while on Gemini Mission 4 in 1965 sighted and took photos of a cylindrical object that paced their spacecraft for hours. One observation made by McDivitt was that the unknown object actually had mechanical arms. Photos taken by the astronaut were analyzed by Mission Control officials, but were never officially commented on.
Once again in 1965 during a record breaking 14 day mission, the Gemini team of astronauts, Frank Borman and Jim Lovell made a startling UFO sighting. Cape Kennedy control attempted to explain away the sighting as being the Titan booster rocket, but James Lovell stated that he and Borman could see not only the jettisoned booster, but the unexplained object that was shadowing their craft from a distance. Both astronauts knew they were not alone.

The Apollo mission was to unveil even more controversy in man’s conquest of our natural satellite and first interplanetary venture. There have been reported sightings by Apollo astronauts while enroute to the moon as well as sightings made while on the surface after making successful landings. Once again Mission Control refused to acknowledge sightings made public with any comments other than explaining the unknown craft as the jettisoned Saturn booster rocket that was merely in the distant vicinity, which most scientists considered an impossible explanation.
It is rumored that as Apollo Missions proceeded that the Astronauts were instructed to use code words instead of describing their sightings as UFOs or their conversations would be scrambled all together to prevent the public from tapping into their conversations. In 1969 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin reported that alien spacecraft were literally parked on the edge of one crater watching human activity. At one point the astronauts reported light inside a particular crater, which would have been impossible had the moon been unoccupied, while the intense shadows would have been blinding to personnel attempting to explore there.

According to astronaut, Scott Carpenter, who made his revealing statement that at no time were human astronauts ever alone or without being observed. According to Carpenter there was a constant surveillance by UFOs. Among the original Mercury Program astronauts, Carpenter corroborates the testimony of his comrades such as Walter Schirra, who was the first astronaut to use a code word for UFOs “Santa Claus” during a 1968 mission on Christmas day while in orbit.

There are many disturbing accounts that raise grave question concerning the occupation of the moon by extraterrestrials not necessarily friendly to human explorers. Some sources have stated that NASA and the Russian space exploration programs were warned off the moon all together. This is why we have never returned, according to this line of reasoning. In his book, “ The Day After Roswell,” the US Army had already submitted a plan named “Project Horizon” by 1960 after taking reconnaissance photos of the moon. A proposed military outpost space station operated by a crew of 4 men or more would have been deployed as a lunar base. This, according to Philip J. Corso, former Captain of US Army intelligence and scientific advisor to the Eisenhower administration, was an effort by the military to deter UFO operations on the moon or to maintain surveillance of their activities from the lunar surface.

It is clear from such former NASA officials such as Albert Chop, Doctor Otto Binder, Dr. Garry Henderson, and Maurice Chatelaine, that Apollo and Gemini Project spacecraft were followed either distantly or on occasion alarmingly close during the years of those missions. Even though the astronauts were under tight instructions not to publicly voice their opinions or experiences, some did anyway. Without their candid and heroic insights in the face of possible military retribution, these men told the truth, and made public their observations. We greatly indebted to these pioneers of space travel who risked their lives to explore the unknown.

My article would not be complete without mentioning the support and public statements of two other NASA astronauts who helped to buttress growing awareness about the presence of others in space as well as this knowledge having inspired and enlightened them as well. Doctor Edgar Mitchell was so impressed and influenced by his Apollo mission experiences on the lunar surface that he was compelled to establish the Institute for Noetic Sciences devoted to paranormal studies. Mitchell began a personal investigation into military personnel who had been involved in UFO sightings as well as secret projects that had been undertaken in the pursuit of research on UFOs.
Probably the most experienced astronaut who had logged more hours in space than any other space pilot or technician for NASA was Storey Musgrove. He had been responsible for the in orbit repair and refit of the defective Hubble Mission space telescope. His attitude toward the possibility of extraterrestrial contact was open, sincere, and peaceful. He publicly stated that during orbital missions in space that he had prepared his mind for such a meeting and outwardly focused his thoughts to that effect. Storey was opened to the possibility of an experience that few human beings have ever had the opportunity to have encountered. In the light of a photo and the alleged meeting of a 9 foot tall entity in the cargo bay of the Shuttle with two of the mission’s astronauts, one can never under estimate just to what degree our space programs and our astronauts have experienced what authorities refuse to reveal to us.

How extraterrestrial civilizations may be shielding Earth from catastrophic damage by solar storms

In a 2010 Farsight Institute remote viewing probe of June 013 using the largest number of military-trained remote viewers in history, 39% of the military-trained remove viewers found a global coastal event and devastated coastal cities and populations, with the U.S. Capitol (directly across the street from the U.S. Supreme Court) being devastated and by deep water, congruent with the 1971 DARPA chronovisor probe of 013.

• A positive time line

Neither of these two studies is definitive, however. The results of the 2010 Farsight Institute probe of June 013 are skewed between a 013 “catastrophic” timeline and a 013 “non-catastrophic” timeline. Statistically, 39 percent of the remote viewing reports achieved a disaster score of “3” (Catastrophic), while 29% of the remote viewing reports achieved a disaster score of “0” (Non-catastrophic). In my opinion, if the Farsight Institute remote viewing study is valid, it is statistically almost as much a certainty that a non-catastrophic (positive) future envisioned by 29% of the remote viewers will occur in 012-13 as that the catastrophic timeline envisioned by 39% of remote viewers will occur.

The 1971 DARPA chronovisor probe of 013 is uncertain as well, according to Andrew D. Basiago, the former U.S. chrononaut who participated in that probe. According to Mr. Basiago, “Because the chronovisors did not identify absolute, deterministic futures but rather alternate futures in the ‘multi-verse,’ this catastrophic vision of Washington, DC might be from an alternative time line that does not materialize on our time line.” All time travel to the past by child participants had been halted in the early 1970s because “each time a child time traveled to the past, she/he found a different result”. This, Mr. Basiago said, could be indicative of alternative and differing timelines.

• Deep Underground Military Bases (DUMBS)

One response of the U.S. government to the 1971 DARPA chronovisor probe of 013 was to order the building of approximately 174 deep underground military bases. Donald H. Rumsfeld was defense attaché to Project Pegasus and a member of the Nixon cabinet. Rumsfeld, had knowledge of 1971 chronovisor probe to 013. U.S. Executive authority under U.S. President Richard M. Nixon or his successors can then have plausibly relied upon the DARPA Project Pegasus chronovisor “013 Washington DC catastrophic timeline” information in making an executive decision of the U.S. government to proceed with the development of a network of deep underground military bases (DUMBs) that now reportedly may number up to 174 DUMBs. There are also reported elite underground bases in Norway and other locations worldwide.

If, as Mr. Basiago points out, “this catastrophic vision of Washington, DC might be from an alternative time line that does not materialize on our time line,” then the entire network of DUMB underground bases and socially repressive anomaly infrastructure used by the U.S. government and elites to implement this predicted 013 “catastrophic timeline” would backfire against the governments and elites.

• Theoretical causes of a global coastal event: Our dual Sun? Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy?

Two theories are emerging for the global coastal event predicted by the 1971 DARPA and 2010 Farsight Institute probes of the year 013. One theory is that a catastrophic global coastal event could be caused by an inner solar system flyby of our dual Sun. Another theory is that our solar system is part of the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy, which is being consumed by the Milky Way galaxy. Celestial bodies from the incoming Milky Way galaxy entering the inner solar system could cause the predicted catastrophic global coastal event.

• Theory I: Nemesis, our dual Sun

Astronomers estimate that over half of all star systems in our Galaxy have multiple stars, that binary star systems are the norm, and that single star systems are a special case. A March 11, 2010 article in Astrobiology Magazine presented a probable case for the existence of our dual Sun, a brown dwarf called “Nemesis” or “Nibiru/Planet X”. The article titled: “Getting WISE About Nemesis”, stated: “A dark object may be lurking near our solar system, occasionally kicking comets in our direction. Nicknamed “Nemesis” or “The Death Star,” this undetected object could be a red or brown dwarf star, or an even darker presence several times the mass of Jupiter.”[1]

• Theory II: The Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy

A report in the Astrophysical Journal “demonstrates how the debris from the Sagittarius galaxy, which is 10,000 times smaller in total mass than the Milky Way, is getting consumed by the latter.”[2]

Global warming on Earth and in the solar system is thought now to be the product of the Milky Way galaxy consuming our Sagittarius galaxy. “Scientists postulate that as the Sun and its attendant satellites, including Earth, get consumed by the Milky Way, the higher energy levels in this much larger galaxy will cause the Sun to burn hotter, and to emit higher energy. This, scientists say, is one reason temperatures have been rising steadily in all plants in our solar system. As the consumption of Sagittarius by the Milky Way continues, further changes are being spotted, and monitored, in our own planetary system: Dark spots appearing, and growing, on Pluto; auroras being reported on Saturn; the polar shifts in Uranus and Neptune; the doubling of the intensity of the magnetic field on Jupiter.”

Celestial bodies now being spotted at the edge of our solar system may in fact be from the incoming Milky Way galaxy. Rodney Gomes, a noted astronomer at the National Observatory of Brazil in Riode Janeiro, presented his recently completed computer models suggesting the existence of the distant planet at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Timberline Lodge, Ore., May 012. According to Gomes research, “A planet four times the size of Earth may be skirting the edges of the solar system beyond Pluto. Too distant to be easily spotted by Earth-based telescopes, the unseen planet could be gravitationally tugging on small icy objects past Neptune, helping explain the mystery of those objects’ peculiar orbits.” This planet may be part of the Milky Way galaxy, and from a solar system that is approaching ours.

• Worst-case scenario

In a worse case scenario, during a fly-by in the inner solar system, Nemesis, or a similar incoming celestial body from the Milky Way galaxy, could approach within 2.85 AU of our Sun (about 265 million miles), creating huge solar flares and solar storms that in turn create a global coastal event of our planet, devastating coastal human settlements and populations. as foreseen in the 1971 DARPA chronovisor and 2010 Farsight Institute remote viewing probes.

• How extraterrestrials may be shielding Earth against solar storms

One hypothesis that is that planet-sized Extraterrestrial/Ultra-dimensional UFO craft photographed around the sun are actually installing shielding mechanisms to shield the solar system and Earth from the solar flares and storms that Nemesis or an incoming celestial body may cause.

Figure I is a NASA SOHO photograph, dated July 4, 012, showing triangular interdimensional portals or stargates on the Sun through which large inter dimensional UFO craft enter into our solar system and reportedly begin shielding operations on our Sun. Physicist Nassim Haramein holds our Sun is a singularity or interdimensional portal into our solar system for UFOs from civilizations from other dimensions in the multiverse.

There is historical, exopolitical precedent for such a precautionary action by ethical extraterrestrials concerned about vulnerable human civilizations exposed to violent solar storms. Ancient artifacts released by the Mexican government in 012 show extraterrestrials doing just this in past cycles.

• 013-2020?

Both the 1971 DARPA chronovisor and the 2010 Farsight Institute remote viewing probes of 013 depict a catastrophic global coastal event, and at the same time are not definitive studies. Either or both probes can be reporting catastrophic timelines that do not materialize as the “actual” timeline in 013 or future years.

Scientific opinion about the existence of our dual Sun or an incoming celestial body is highly divided. A number of prominent scientists investigating these issues have reportedly met mysterious deaths, and there is evidence of a government coverup in this area. Thus hard data as to the existence and itinerary in the outer solar system of a dual Sun or other incoming celestial object is difficult to locate, with possible the exception of the February 11, 013 report of an object of interest from the Turrialba Volcano in Costa Rica.

There is hard data evidencing 174 deep underground military bases that have been constructed, apparently on the basis of the 1971 DARPA probe to 013 and other data at an estimated cost of $2-3 trillion in black budget funds. The existence of these 174 DUMB military bases demonstrates that the U.S. national security state has made an unprecedented investment in preparing to survive a flyby of a dual Sun or other incoming celestial bodies.

These DUMBS may well live up to their acronym (i.e. “DUMB”) and be useless relics of elite and military paranoia, even if the threat from a dual Sun or incoming celestial bodies is real. The evidence the Mexican government released in 012 show that advanced ethical extraterrestrial civilizations shielded Earth from the more damaging effects of our dual Sun in the distant past, as NASA SOHO photographs show they may be doing in the present.

• 013-2020?

On balance, the evidence shows, more probably than not, that humanity is on a positive timeline, 012-2020 and beyond, thanks in part, perhaps, to the demonstrated interventions of ethical extraterrestrial civilizations shielding Earth from the effects of solar storms.

• 013-2020

Humanity can co-create a positive future under the helpful umbrella of these ethical extraterrestrials in five key areas. These areas are:

I - Transformation of Human Consciousness – Humanity can consolidate a new human consciousness of open interaction with multi-dimensional civilizations; Develop new healthy forms of world public order; and Build new human settlements around interaction with multi-dimensional civilizations.

II - New Energy Transformation – Humanity can achieve disclosure and public application of secret quantum access technologies, such as teleportation and time travel, and anti-gravitic and zero point energies.

III - Transformation from War Economy to Sustainable Economy – Humanity can achieve a sustainable economy and rational public order, including: Abolition of hereditary rule; Global virtual democracies; Universal disarmament; Abolition of the U.S. Federal Reserve & private central banks; Abolition of fiat currencies; Forgiveness of public and private debt (as fruit of illegitimate banking cartel); Deconstruction of international banking cartels; Limit on bloodline wealth/power accumulation (No more $100-250 Trillion families); Guaranteed wealth & income for all humans (Every human can be a billionaire with proper re-distribution of wealth on planet Earth).

IV - Official Disclosure of Earth Policy toward Mars – Humanity can officially acknowledge intelligent life on its nearest planetary neighbor Mars and enter into an Earth-Mars Protection Treaty.

V - Extraterrestrial Civilizations Liaison – Humanity can develop trans-planetary grass roots, and a transparent international organization for lasting planetary interface with the galactic and universe community in a post-shift environment.

Two important aspects of the Roswell Incident to consider

The Roswell incident is probably one of the most thoroughly scrutinized UFO events in history. Having been overlooked soon after it occurred thanks to a cunningly mundane explanation used as a cover story by General Roger Ramey from Carswell Airbase in Ft. Worth, Texas, this controversial episode simply faded into obscurity. The mist of time held in lieu of the weather balloon explanation that although ridiculous, served its purpose in quelling the public’s obsession with a supposed crashed disc that was reportedly recovered by the 509th Bomb Group stationed at Roswell, Air Field. Case closed right? Wrong.

We won’t go deep into events you have probably already read about and I myself have written numerous articles about. The implications of the Roswell saucer crash that happened sometime near the 8th of July 1947 are fairly well defined. Instead, I think there are a couple of points that need to be reiterated about the entire crash, recovery, and subsequent cover-up that, to this day, still invokes a mixture of wonder, skepticism, and passionate affirmation.

• Primary consideration

1) The Roswell incident represents a social and technological realization that brought our society years ahead as a result of an epiphany about the universe as well as ourselves, but for this matter alone it might have seemed significant until adding the military element to the picture. For the first time known to the general public as well as armed service personnel deployed to assist in a recovery and highly classified secret mission that differs in every way, shape, and form ever known to the US armed forces before. For the first time policy, freedom of speech, drastic technical significance, and social impact all came down fast and hard in one singular occurrence and forced high command into a realm of decision making it had probably never encountered before.

Something that involved an extremely unlikely scenario had just taken place, and a challenging set of tactical moves had to be undertaken in order to maintain secrecy, recover exotic hardware not of this earth, and to silence normal, law abiding citizens, who had done nothing but see or hear about a fantastic event that might change humanity forever. Those in power at the time had to think in terms of acting like the American military had never before responded to such a disturbing event. And just as suddenly as the appearance of a crashed spacecraft from another world and the alien occupants within had appeared, the American command structure was going to have to act in several different dimensions at once.

Those objectives were as follows:

1)Discovery and retrieval of extraterrestrial hardware and bodies.

2) Remove these items under least detectable circumstance clean up evidence at crash site
3) Suppression of witnesses and those civilians demanding access to the facts
4) Fabricate a believable cover story
5) Get the press corps off their backs
6) Analysis and evaluation of the crash wreckage
7) Implement a completely new policy of mitigating information and compartmentalizing it
8) Forming a new command structure tasked with the disposition of this incident and similar events
9) Formulation of a new policy toward an emerging and little understood phenomena
10) Determine the social impact of this event upon civilization and how to proceed from there
11) Establish whether or not this action constituted a national threat

• Further dark possibilities

It is clear that the US Armed Forces were faced with an unprecedented proposition that could present a myriad of negative implications if the situation was badly handled. It could mean society could disintegrate under self doubt and mass hysteria. It could mean that civilian law and order to experience a breakdown and refuse to acknowledge the government as an authority. It could lead to the breakdown and decay of morality and religion once the people’s basic belief systems had been sufficiently shocked and proven obsolete. It could mean that society might be gripped with terror and paranoia to catastrophic levels. This had been witnessed when Orson Wells had presented a radio play, “War of the Worlds” by H.G. Wells in 1938 on Halloween evening resulting in a massive panic that brought death and a terror stricken loss of control. Even with the announcement that it was a radio play in progress, that interjection of normality was thrust aside in the chaos.

• Emergence of an officially non-existent agency

A dedicated agency or organi

zation was to be quickly formulated that would administer policy, control intelligence, maintain secrecy, and analyze the potential technical aspects of the recovered wreckage. That was MJ Twelve (the working group) as many whistle blowers referred to it, a secret and unmentionable agency of high ranking Pentagon appointed scientists and command structure personnel.

As if these complex and immediate decisions were not enough for the generals, the scientific community, and President’s cabinet to handle, there was still one major consideration to consider. What was the ultimate cause of the UFO crash, and could it have a more far reaching purpose than what appeared to be the an accident or in-flight malfunction that could have been caused by a disruption from the powerful targeting radars being tested in many parts of New Mexico? Had it been made to look like an accident?

Major consideration number (2) was: Could the Roswell incident have been an attempt to seed humanity on planet earth with more than just technology but with a major revelation about mankind’s own relationship with the universe? The knowledge that the human race was not alone, but that unless mankind behaved as responsible stewards of their technology, their own self destructive nature, still unrestrained, along with the destructive capability of the atomic bomb which could endanger not only the human species but other civilizations beyond planet earth, needed to be dealt with.

• Pondering dangerous scenarios

Yet, there was a menacing caveat to all these projected anticipations. Could the crash at Roswell have been a Trojan Horse? Could this influx of sudden and crucial impact have been designed to overwhelm mankind and cause mass panic, chaos, social break down, and fear? It was already a well known sociological and archeological fact that civilizations that are eclipsed by technically superior societies tended to disintegrate from the exposure of their belief systems to a reality that disproves all assumptions and core beliefs that lend credence to a society’s security within itself. To be the devil’s advocate here and examine both sides of the argument played a serious role in the determination of what policies would be administered and under war time footing or peace time procedure. If this all seems confusing to anyone trying to put their feet in the shoes of the powers that be at the time of the Roswell incident, one can be assured that not only was it a daunting task, but the most serious wake up call mankind in the twentieth century was now called upon to deal with.

• So where is the actual truth?

Even today, in light of all the events that transpired, the witnesses that have grown old and passed away, the untimely deaths of certain high ranking officials such as Secretary of the Navy, Eugene Forestall, as well as the suspect preponderance of classified DOD (Dept. of Defense) procedure, we grope in a fog for more answers. Did the Roswell Incident occur under the best decision making that could have been devised in order to deal with such a remarkable development? In the light of post war America and our humanitarian disposition at the time based upon predominantly Christian morality, we could have made worse decisions. However, the emergence of a new security state around the time of the Truman administration invoking police state type secrecy authorization did indeed evolve and become SOP fro future administrations. Some point out that it was the beginning of dictatatorial legislation like the present NDAA enactments of 2011 under the aegis of Emergency Powers Acts.

The US could have taken more drastic actions that perhaps the Soviet Union would have adopted which would have led to the pursuit of weaponizing any data that could be extracted from the crash artifacts. We did eventually have to arrive at that conclusion thanks to the ongoing “Cold War” yet, we did not officially arrive at that rationale. The fragmented history we have tells us that our leaders bluffed, sequestered, made up stories, transformed the discovery into a highly classified project, planned a clandestine disinformation program, and allowed a shadow agency to manage it from these subject to a continual need to adjust the parameters over 60 years ago. We can be assured that the members of MJ Twelve all took their oath of secrecy to their graves with them. Is this not an irony enough in itself? Yes, the world definitely changed forever in the wake of the Roswell Incident.

Introducing ourselves to aliens

Imagine being assigned to explain to an extraterrestrial — a space alien — what it means to be an earthling.

To do so, you can put some inscriptions on a gold-plated copper disc.

That was the mission author Ann Druyan undertook nearly four decades ago.

Now, with the twin Voyager spacecraft departing our solar system, she expresses hope someday the messages and recordings her committee put together will be found.

“It would be just stupefying if we are the only intelligent beings,” Druyan said during a visit to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory on Wednesday for a commemoration of the Voyager mission.

The twin Voyagers were launched in 1977 for a “grand tour” of the outer planets.

This was made possible by a planetary alignment that recurs once every 176 years.

The trajectories ultimately will take the Voyagers into interstellar space.

During mission planning, the decision was made to attach messages to the spacecraft in case they are encountered by extraterrestrials.

Druyan signed on as creative director for what was called the “Interstellar Message Project.”

But where to begin?

How to convey the essence of humanity and planet Earth to an unseen, unimagined stranger?

“It was like designing a Noah’s Ark of human culture,” Druyan recalled.

Right off the bat, recordings of sounds, the human voice, and music were deemed essential.

This was well before the invention of Compact Disc audio recording, so the sound was etched into grooves on the disc like an old fashioned vinyl LP.

A stylus was thoughtfully included for extraterrestrials without a phonograph player and schematic instructions for playing were etched into a second disc.

The musical selections spanned the globe and millenia.

Druyan confided that her favorites included a cut by Louie Armstrong, and Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode.”

In fact, years later when JPL celebrated the Voyagers reaching Neptune in 1989, Berry traveled to the La Canada Flintridge facility and performed his hits for the earthling scientists.

Also included on the space-bound discs were the sounds of a mother with her newborn, dozens of images of life on earth, and a recording of the brainwaves of a young woman who had just fallen in love.

That would be Druyan, who had begun a relationship with Carl Sagan, the famed astronomer who later reached out to the general public with “Cosmos,” the PBS documentary series that became a cultural touchstone of the 1980s.

Druyan is now working on a successor series.

Even before the original “Cosmos,” Voyager’s cosmic outreach resonated with popular culture.

It inspired the premise of 1979′s Star Trek: The Movie, in which unfriendly aliens intercept a fictional Voyager and used it to find their way to Earth with mischief in mind.

Druyan hopes more altruistic aliens will someday discover the real Voyagers with their space age messages in a bottle.

In her fantasy, the ships are found by space cruisers who add the Voyagers to their collection, delivering them to otherworldly graduate students for analysis.

But what will they make of us?

“I hope they’ll feel that we had only the best of intentions, and that we knew how limited we were, but we really wanted to make contact with the Cosmos,” she says.
