For many years now, UFOs have more than not been identified as "flying saucers," or disc-shaped objects. Of course, there were other unknown flying object reports of odd-shaped vehicles of many different descriptions, but these were the exception and not the rule.

In the last 30 years or so, the triangle shape has become a topic of much discussion. Often reported as flying low and running silent, with several lights on the bottom, these strange objects have become an enigma in UFO circles.

Sightings of these objects often come in waves, and they are reported as being able to go from a crawl to a high-speed departure in a matter of seconds.

A GOVERNMENT PROJECT?

Many feel that the triangle UFO may be a top-secret government craft, still in the experimental stage, and more than likely designed with military implications. Some researchers feel that they are the next step in the Stealth series of craft, capable of flying low and making their exit without being detected by enemy radar. This type of craft would be indispensable for enemy surveillance, especially with weapon capabilities.

I will agree that a good portion of triangle UFO sightings may be attributed to a government manufactured craft, but this cannot account for all of them. The man on the street cannot know just how advanced governmental or military technological prowess may be, but reports of the flight characteristics of the triangles seem to surpass even our most liberal estimates of what modern technology is capable of.

REPORTS INCREASING

Although the triangle craft seem to be a dark, mysterious entity, according to researcher and author, Clyde Lewis, triangle sightings in the United Kingdom are almost an everyday occurrence. He states in his article, "Mystery of the Black Triangles," there have been approximately 4,000 reports of the triangles since 1990 in the UK alone.

There have also been waves of triangle sightings in Belgium, France, Holland and Germany, beginning with the most celebrated wave of all, the 1989-1990 triangle wave over Belgium.

In this particular case, in addition to triangle sightings, other anomalous events took place. As some of the triangles were picked up by military radar, jets would be scrambled to get a close look at exactly what was invading Belgian airspace. However, although the jet fighters could briefly lock in on the mysterious UFOs, when their weapons were set to fire, their electrical systems would malfunction, and soon the triangles were out of range.

ANOMALOUS EFFECT

A second unusual fact during the Belgian wave was the inability of eyewitnesses to capture the objects on film. There are a couple of fairly decent, distant videos of them, and finally, one good photograph was taken in April 1990 in the city of Petit-Rechain.

This photograph clearly shows a triangle-shaped object with red lights on the belly.

There were approximately 1,000 sightings of the Belgian triangle, and many of these were reported by ground observers who could clearly see the craft and took what they felt would be a good, clear picture. However, when their film was developed, the image was blurry and had no probative value.

This fact came to the attention of August Meessen, a physics professor, who was employed by the Catholic University at Louvin.

He developed a theory that the photographic failures were caused by infrared light. He proved his theory through scientific experiments. What this actually means is open to debate, but it appears from witness statements, that the farther away the triangle was from the photographer, the better chance to get a good image.

The sightings over Belgium were investigated, and there was no doubt that unknown, triangular-shaped objects moved over the country for about two years. They were caught on radar, seen by pilots, and witnessed by a general cross-section of the public, including policemen.

No explanation could be given, except to say that something very unusual occurred in the Belgian skies.

This is one of the best examples of the triangle UFOs, but in future articles, I will detail other special cases of these strange, low-flying craft.

Son Doong was entirely closed to visitors until 2013, and the Russian team of six spent a year arranging permits for the trip.

Their journey through the cave took four days of arduous climbs interspersed with spectacular sights, such as some of the world’s most imposing stalagmites, fast-running streams, and an underground forest.

“It’s peaceful here, you feel completely detached and free. This is what you call a reset,” said one of the travelers, Ernest Rudyak, in a video diary of the journey. “It is a sanctuary, a lost world below the surface - a unique ecosystem.”

Only about 2,000 outsiders are thought to have traveled to the remote location, and fewer than a dozen have filmed inside with a drone. Only limited tours costing several thousand dollars are made available each year, and those sell out in hours.

But the government wants to capitalize on what has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003, and has proposed a cable car route through the cave. A spate of protests delayed construction in 2014, but the $200 million plan that would allow hundreds to visit the cave each day, remains on the table.

1. DAVID ROCKEFELLER

The first of these individuals is David Rockefeller, a direct descendant of the first American billionaire J.D. Rockefeller who made his fortune monopolizing the American Medical Establishment. Over the years, the Rockefeller family have been pivotal in the campaign to discredit natural remedies and the growth of the notoriously corrupt pharmaceutical industry. David Rockefeller has also been linked to highly controversial political ideas, claiming that he would like to play a role in the establishment of a one world government which is completely controlled by the elite. He once wrote, “Some even believe [the Rockefellers] are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as ‘internationalists’, conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure – one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I’m proud of it.”  

2. HENRY KISSINGER

Another person who is believed to share his views is Henry Kissinger, who Rockefeller has been close friends with since 1954. When he served as Secretary of State, Kissinger created a bloody and disgraceful legacy with the war in Vietnam, the instigation of coups in South America and assisting corrupt and brutal regimes all over the world to suit his economic agenda. Now he has fallen out of the spotlight to some extent, but he still serves a crucial role in defining the US and international politics and is regularly called upon by serving presidents and Secretaries of State for advice in the perpetuation of the War on Terror.  

3. GEORGE SOROS

George Soros has also played his role in advising politicians as to how to set their agendas despite the fact that he has a notorious reputation as a financial parasite who has made his fortune on economic collapse. During the 1997 Asian financial crisis, he was accused of bringing down the entire Malaysian government through illegal insider trading, and it is believed that he was acting in a similar fashion in England. Despite this shameful professional reputation, Soros is best known today for his so-called philanthropic causes. Soros claims that he wants to use his money to make the world a better place, however, his political views have led him towards some disreputable allegations such as rigging elections.  

4. LAWRENCE SUMMERS

Soros’s relationships with the Clintons is well known. Another person believed to have had a huge influence on the political power couple is Lawrence Summers. Under Bill Clinton, Summers served in various positions within the US Treasury eventually rising to the head of the Department in 1999. While he was in office, Summers removed the Glass-Steagall Act which is believed to have played a central role in the global economic crisis of 2008. Following his stint in government, Summers has been aggressively pursuing his financial deregulation agenda all over the world, and his actions have contributed to a rise in the level of inequality and the transferring of huge amounts of wealth from the population to the elite.  

5. ROTHSCHILD FAMILY

Perhaps the most influential and shadowy figures in the world are the Rothschild family who owns a majority of the world’s central banks which operate as private institutions as well as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The family is quite open about how much influence they exert over the affairs of the world with the patriarch of the family Mayer Amschel Rothschild once saying, “Give me control of a nation’s money and I care not who makes the laws.” The family has also been open about their ability to destroy any nation which does not follow their agenda to the letter which means that even powerful political figures such as Hillary Clinton have been reported to grovel to them for forgiveness when she incurred their displeasure.

The X-Files might be off the television now, but it would appear UFO sightings remain very much a thing in the West Midlands.

Websites have been set up for people to log extraterrestrial spots, and there are several every year across Birmingham, the Black Country and the wider area.

Some may scoff but hundreds of people are convinced they have had such encounters.

Here are the 11 out-of-this-world UFO sightings taken from these sites which might just have you believing there really is something out there…

1) "We thought it was a burning plane”

UFO witness Lisa was in the front garden of her Solihull house when she saw an orange flickering ball in the sky.

“My immediate thought was that it looked like a plane on fire, but it clearly wasn’t.

“It moved far too fast to be a plane - we live near the flight path so we are used to seeing planes. I watched it for probably only a few seconds and saw as it travelled across the sky, not down, reduced in size and then disappeared.”

She was convinced that the mysterious aircraft was proof of life on other planets.

2) The stargazer who saw something he couldn’t explain

Amateur astronomer Adam trained his telescope on Jupiter to watch a satellite trail across the sky and saw something he had never seen in 18 years of skygazing.

“Suddenly a white light flew across the sky at a speed I have never seen before in any man-made tech. I didn’t hear a boom as expected with such speed, just a faint hum. It was no meteor - it was also very low and the light was very bright. I saw it for three seconds before it had travelled across the entire sky and out of sight.”

Adam knew he had witnessed extraterrestrial life, but never told anyone, for fear that he would not be believed.

3) A cigarette and an alien

Late one night, Errol was smoking a cigarette in the garden with his partner Danni. They looked up to see an object hurtling through the sky towards them.

“It was not a plane or a helicopter or a Chinese lantern. There was no sound and it was hard to focus on it because it was so bright.”

Errol and Danni rushed inside, locked the door and watched as the mysterious object floated off.

4) The little girl and the black shadows

This encounter sounds like the beginning of a sci fi blockbuster. Mr Hulin tucked his granddaughter into bed but two hours later he heard her crying for her mother.

“She said that nine or ten black shadows were over her bed. There was one white ghost with no mouth but this one was friendly. The black shadows were trying to hold her hand so she went under the quilt. She said this made them angry. She says they left in a pink car with no lights on it and went into the sky. She said, ‘I don’t know what planet they went to’.

“This was very unusual for a four-year-old to say. My granddaughter is very intelligent and we all agreed she did not make it up.”

Too much sugar or a terrifying encounter with the paranormal? We’ll never know.

5) The yellow full moon UFO

Waiting for the lift down from his 16th floor flat, Scott looked out of the window and saw a UFO.

“There was a huge light in the sky. It was the size of a full moon moving slowly towards Wolverhampton. It was bright yellow in colour and almost perfectly round.”

6) Is that a firework… or a spaceship?

The day after bonfire night you may expect to see some fireworks but Julian Lewis was adamant that what he saw driving home on 6 November 2010 was no firework.

“I saw this bright fireball in the sky. It was so bright up there it was scary. I stopped the car in excitement and shock. It just stopped and stayed right above me very high up.

“It got brighter and brighter and was giving off rays, very much like the sun does. May I add that at no time did this thing make any sound.”

Julian jumped into his car and drove home, before writing up his encounter on a UFO sightings website.

7) The spaceship with football stadium spot lights

In this instance, a man called Phill had just passed his driving test and had treated himself to a new car. He and a friend parked outside his house and saw what he assumed was a helicopter in the sky. He turned his lights on to their brightest setting and watched the aircraft.

“It was triangular in shape with a bar of white lights that looked like football ground spot lights across the front. The bottom of the craft had a pattern of colours that kept changing from red, green and blue.”

Phill and his friend watched in horror as the aircraft slowly twisted and sped off across the night’s sky, leaving him convinced that it was not-of-this-world.

“To this day I can’t think what earthly thing it could have been,” he said.

8) The fighter jet spaceships that ruined Emmerdale

A poster called Mike was settling down to watch Emmerdale when a rumbling sound like a jet shook his house.

“The sound blasted over the TV and the whole house felt like it trembled. I looked at my wife and said, ‘these are no jets’. I took my camera out to the front of the house and there were four red UFOs going over the street.”

Mike snapped as the strange planes zoomed over his head. Are these grainy pictures evidence that the aliens are among us?

9) The mysterious sphere that floats above Sandwell hospital

It seems like aliens visit hospitals too.

In this instance, a spherical metallic blue object was seen hovering over Sandwell hospital.

A spotter called Darren explained: “At first I thought it was a helicopter but there wasn’t any sound. So then I thought it was a balloon, but it wasn’t moving in this light wind.”

The real question is: why are aliens visiting Sandwell hospital?

Sitting at his desk in a Redditch office, Neil heard a colleague shouting, “UFO!” He followed him outside to see a large, long tube darting across the sky.

“It was as high as a normal passenger jet. But it had no wings or tail, just a long metal tube, rounded at both ends.”

He took a picture on his phone but the object was mysteriously invisible in the photograph.

“I can’t explain what I saw, even though I want to dismiss it. Then I heard local reports over the weekend that there were several sightings in Bromsgrove on the same day.”

11) Graveyard sighting

Walking through a graveyard in Kidderminster, Katherine noticed two street lights suspended across the churchyard.

“When I got closer, I realised that the lights were separate and were moving away. It was quite misty but the lights were clearly visible for about a minute.

“They were completely round with a triangle of light coming out of the back. There was no noise.”

Katherine fled from the ghostly vision and knew she had become one of the few people to witness a UFO.

A Consciousness Consideration for UFO Sightings

As someone trained in mystical thought, I believe there is a case for the consciousness model when considering brief UFO sightings.

When the idea of consciousness began entering the research conversation in Ufology, it caused a bit of an uproar and there has been mixed feelings to the topic. Many people in the UFO research were put off by the squishy notion of telepathy and psychic phenomena being a significant component in the UFO research dialogue.

If you talk to folks familiar with the Close Encounter Five philosophy, the notion of communication with off-worlders and UFO crafts that are “alive in an artificial intelligence context” is a very real consideration.

Close Encounter Five (CE-5) is classified as “Human to Alien” initiated communication. The concept behind CE-5 is that aliens have highly refined telepathic abilities. Likewise their craft seem to be highly advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capable of telepathic communication. The CE-5 folks have protocols for reaching out with their meditative minds and telepathically touching the aliens or their AI crafts. This has been going on for some time, in the form of individual efforts and CE-5 group gatherings.

I’ve been reading UFO sighting reports on a weekly basis for nearly five years. One thing I read repeatedly is descriptions like, “There it was for a few seconds and it winked out or it suddenly disappeared.”

Think of this scenario: Someone is outside for a smoke or out walking the dog. They are relaxed and peaceful, letting go of the day’s stresses and challenges. The sky is clear, and the stars are shining in a majestic display. A situation like this has a deeply calming effect on most people.

Then bam! This individual has an amazing UFO sighting experience for a few seconds or perhaps for as long as a minute, then the phenomenon just disappears. The event is astonishing enough to prompt the individual to report it to NUFORC (National UFO Reporting Center) or MUFON (Mutual UFO Network).

As a shaman, I see a familiar metaphysical occurrence. It’s something I like to call “a flash perception.” Think of it as a few moments of incredibly intuitive clarity.

Our day-to-day mindset is what’s called our ordinary mind. When we have one of these flash perceptions, our consciousness shifts from the ordinary mind to an altered state of consciousness. In effect, the boundaries of our reality perception stretches a bit.

In this altered state, we might perhaps have a sense of déjà vu, or have a flash of a loved one in peril, or a precognitive burst of some future event. It might even be the creative twinkle of what many in the creative arts call the muse’s “Divine Kiss.”

The bottom line: Ordinary people can and do experience an altered view of reality from time to time. In this unique view, they may perceive things that the ordinary mind can’t comprehend. For example, in a dream state we all experience many things that really made real sense while we were dreaming– but after waking up these things lack conceptualization and words to explain it.

I hypothesize that people in a relaxed state of mind might be occasionally treated to an “intuitive, waking dreamlike event” of an out-of-this-world craft. Is the craft really there? Yes!

But the craft might be just out of our ordinary reality view to see it. Some might be quick to say this sort of event might be just a hallucination, but it’s not.

All human beings have the capacity for having such transcendent experiences. The average person rarely has these events. For the person born with more attuned psychic gifts, these events happen much more often. For those trained as mystical adepts, these altered states can be induced with deeper states of meditation. Some tribal practices use ceremonial medicinal

herbs to induce such states, but you don’t have to be under the influence of a psychotropic substance to have this sort of experience.

My point boils down to this: Some UFO sighting experiences are not seen with the naked eye but rather with the intuitive mind’s eye during brief periods of intuitive clarity.

Breakhead: Keep Looking Up

Here are some recent UFO sighting reports from across the nation.

Oct. 1, 2017: At about 1 a.m. a resident of Clay City, Ky., observed a V-shape or triangle or boomerang shape crafter overhead.

Oct. 1, 2017: At about 8:10 a.m. a resident of Mechanicsburg, Pa., reported seeing three bright orange lights in a triangular shape that abruptly disappeared.

Oct. 1, 2017: At about 8:10 a.m. a resident of Mount Pleasant, S.C., saw a bright white light in the daytime sky.

Oct. 1, 2017: At about 11:25 a.m. a resident of Denver, Colo., reported observing a cluster of whitish balls with blue chevron wings over Denver.

Oct. 1, 2017: At about 11:50 a.m. a resident of Philadelphia, Pa., saw a very bright object in the sky northwest of Philadelphia.

Here's What You Really Need to Know About That Hot Plume Under Antarctica

Don't believe the headlines that say there's a disaster coming.

The effect, first proposed 30 years ago, seems especially strong in West Antarctica, where ice sheet losses are most dramatic and contributing to sea-level rise. But few scientists believed this was happening, at least initially.

"I thought it was crazy," Hélène Seroussi, a climatologist and ice researcher at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a press release. "I didn't see how we could have that amount of heat and still have ice on top of it."

However, a new study by Seroussi and others now backs up the idea of a hot mantle plume - and the melting it causes - with advanced computer modelling.

The work was published September 1 in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth.

Rising from the depths

Earth's internal heat is always warming up the ground, including rock under ice sheets all over the planet. While this partially melts them from below, snow and ice accumulation on top is usually enough to balance out these losses.

Over the years, however, researchers who study Antarctic ice melt have detailed an anomaly at West Antarctica. There, ice sheet thinning is more drastic than anywhere else on the continent, according to satellite data.

Since the industrial revolution, the North and South Poles have warmed at a rate many times faster than other locations on Earth. In Antarctica, this is melting ice sheets from above and pooling water on top of them - possibly helping carve off Delaware-size icebergs.

But a warming climate does not fully explain Antarctica's mounting ice loss. So in recent years, researchers have looked deeper for an answer.

Hiding under the ice

One line of research has discovered, documented, and even drilled into and explored a vast system of sub-glacial lakes and rivers.

This water helps lubricate the movement of ice sheets from the snowy mountains to the sea - and certain parts of the Southern Continent, where there's a lot of sub-glacial water - are moving and melting faster than others.

Scientists have also dug into the mystery of a bulge in Earth's crust below West Antarctica, called the Marie Byrd Land Dome. At first, it was thought the crust was thicker there. But earthquake-like seismic measurements disproved that idea.

Something else is buoying the region, and recent seismic imaging - essentially 3D-radar for Earth's crust and mantle - suggests there's a warm plume of rock below West Antarctica. (Just as sound waves travel slower through liquids than solids, seismic waves slow down when encountering hotter, more gooey, and less-dense rock.)

Since this could just be an irregularity in the mantle, Seroussi and her colleagues borrowed from a computer model used to simulate the giant plume of hot rock below Yellowstone National Park.

Researchers plugged in all of the known physics about the mantle, Antarctica, and its ice sheets - including their changing altitude, movement, friction caused by that movement, melting rates, and more - and produced dozens of simulations, according to NASA JPL.

Those simulations showed that heat spilling from a hot mantle plume could be up to three times greater than it is for a normal, non-volcanic chunk of mantle below the US. And compared to mantle below Yellowstone, the heat output could be 75 percent that of the volcanically active region.

When the researchers compared that heat output to basal (or bottom) melt rates in Antarctica, no places matched - except for West Antarctica. At that location, a crack or rift in the crust may be allowing heat to rapidly escape upward, the researchers wrote in their study.

"Without a plume-like heating source," they said, "our simulations show that intrinsic heating and crustal sources do not provide enough energy to generate significant amounts of basal meltwater."

PROOF OF TIME TRAVEL? BIZARRE CLAIMS NUCLEAR BOMB WAS DETONATED IN INDIA 12,000 YEARS AGO

A NUCLEAR bomb blast killed half a million people in India 12,000 years ago, according to shocking claims being made.

Videos uploaded by conspiracy theory and UFO websites suggest there is evidence of the ancient blast happening in a desert region near Jodhpur.

Website ufosightingsdaily.com was the latest to link to one of the videos today.

The “evidence” is alleged to be based on “writings” in ancient texts and an area where high levels of radiation were allegedly detected.

Conspiracy theory website Disclose.tv said: “Hindu texts dating from thousands of years ago seem to suggest that some kind of highly advanced weapon resembling an atomic bomb was set off on the Earth some twelve thousand of years ago.”

The theory is based on alleged passages from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, Sanskrit epics said to be written in around the 8th or 9th century BC, about the Kurukshetra War and battle between Rama and the demon Ravana respectively.

Disclose.tv added: “Could an atomic bomb have gone off on Earth 12,000 years ago? Some of the passages from the Mahabharata suggest a nuclear conflict.”

The website points to these allegedly translated extracts from the texts: “A single projectile charged with all the power in the Universe…An incandescent column of smoke and flame as bright as 10,000 suns, rose in all its splendor…it was an unknown weapon, an iron thunderbolt, a gigantic messenger of death which reduced to ashes an entire race.

“The corpses were so burned as to be unrecognisable. Their hair and nails fell out, pottery broke without any apparent cause, and the birds turned white.

“After a few hours, all foodstuffs were infected. To escape from this fire, the soldiers threw themselves into the river.”

The theory suggests the discovery of an area of high radiation in the 1990s and several corpses found in an ancient city back up the texts.

The claims are that on the eastern edge of the great Thar desert, near the ancient city of Jodhpur, in the 1990s, an area “where radioactivity is so great that residents have long had high rates of cancer and birth defects.”

It suggests that nearby several skeletons were unearthered in an ancient city whiuch appeared to have perished together in the streets.

In some reports alleged Indian historian, Kisari Mohan Ganguli, said: “Indian sacred writings are full of such descriptions, which sound like an atomic blast as experienced in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.”

The theory claims there is evidence of a nuclear blast crater – the Lonar Crater near Mumbai, which cannot be explained.

Conspiracy theorists have claimed time travellers or aliens could be explanations for how advanced technology developed in the 20th century was available 12,000 years ago.

Disclose.tv said: “How the ancient Indian powers at the time developed nuclear weapons is a mystery although of course no records exist showing anything like the levels of technology needed to develop these kinds of weapons.”

But, despite appearing on many conspiracy theory and UFO websites, the story has been exposed as “fake news”.

Debunking website skeptoid.com investigated the claims.

It found no evidence of the reported passages in translated versions of the texts.

It also found no evidence outside of conspiracy forums to suggest the area of high radiation had been discovered in the desert.

The images of the ancient city and skeletons used with the reports were found to have actually been taken at the ancient cities of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa, which are around 300 miles away from the alleged site.

Skeptoid.com said: ” If this was a nuclear war, it was practically a nationwide theatre.

“Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa are both about 500 km from Jodhpur, one to the north and one to the west. None of these places are anywhere near each other.

“Sadly for the legend, there is nothing remotely like this story in any archaeological publications.

“Archaeological information about the excavations of Mohenjo-Daro, Harappa, and other Indus Valley sites is widely available online and in print, and there is simply no such thing as radioactive skeletons or skeletons in large numbers or holding hands or sprawled in any way.”

Skeptoid.com said the Lonar Crater was 470 miles from the alleged site and had been dated back to being formed 52,000 years ago, long before the alleged ancient bomb blast.

Tourist is shocked to see a 'doughnut-shaped UFO' floating above a lake in a picture he took in China

• A Taiwanese man claimed he took pictures of a famous lake in south-west China 
• Later on, his sister-in-law told him she saw a mysterious object in one photo
• The 44-year-old salesman believes the doughnut-shaped object was a UFO
• British UFO expert, Philip Mantle, analysed the pictures but couldn't be sure

A Taiwanese businessman claimed he had caught a doughnut-shaped UFO on camera in south-west China. 

Salesman John Chen said he took some picturesque shots of the famous Lake Dian after attending a trade show in Yunnan Province on November 1.

Later on, the 44-year-old and his sister-in-law were shocked to spot a mysterious ring-shaped object in sky when they were looking at one picture at home in Taipei.

Mr Chen, above, sends the pictures to Philip Mantle, a leading UFO expert, for analysis as the flying object has a ridged shape that looks like a doughnut (under).

The object in question has ridged sides and a hole in the middle, and is similar to the shape of a doughnut.

Mr Chen decided to find a UFO expert in a bid to find out what it could be.

Philip Mantle, who is said to be a leading British UFO researcher, told Mr Chen that he could not explain what the flying 'doughnut' was. Mr Mantle called the incident an 'open verdict'.

However, Mr Chen said: 'It just has to be a UFO. It's a strange doughnut shape in the sky.

'The strange thing is I didn't see it at the time. It was my wife's sister who spotted them. She said there was something in the pictures and I just thought she was joking.'

Mr Chen then checked with his colleagues. They shared the photos that they had taken on the day, but his colleagues did not capture any strange object in the sky.

Upon receiving photos sent by Mr Chen, British UFO expert Philip Mantle doubted for the legitimacy of the images. 

'What I can say is that the photographer in question here has always cooperated and seems to be genuinely puzzled by the images on his photos.

He did not see the alleged UFO at the time of taking the photos. Instead it was a relative that noticed them when he posted them on social media.'

Mantel concluded that there was no proof that the pictures were a hoax but the object could also be 'some air born debris that has been caught by the camera;   

'More study needs to be done on these photos before any definite conclusion can be reached, so in the meantime it remains an open verdict,' he added.

NASA DISCOVERS GIANT MANTLE PLUME THAT’S MELTING ANTARCTICA FROM BELOW

Antarctica has been in the news a lot recently, with gloomy tales of the astonishing icy continent melting and collapsing because of the effects of climate change.

SUPER VOLCANO DISCOVERED UNDERNEATH ANTARCTICA

However, according to scientists in one particular area of the continent something else is at work too. Researchers working for NASA have discovered that there is a massive super-volcano underneath Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica which is generating almost as much heat as the infamous Yellowstone supervolcano and effectively melting the ice from underneath the Earth.

The research team have uncovered an enormous amount of hot rock underneath Marie Byrd Land which lies between the gigantic Ross Ice Shelf and the Ross Sea. According to the team, the heat surrounding this area is creating huge lakes and rivers underneath the ice sheet. This heat, they claim, is being generated by a mantle plume. Mantle plumes are part of the anatomy of a super volcano which bring hot material from the interior to the Earth to the surface. The region directly surrounding these mantle plumes is known as a hot spot and can cause a great deal of geographical instability. According to the team, it is likely that the mantle plume is responsible for the ever changing landscape in this particular region on Antarctica and is probably responsible for its rapid collapse towards the end of the last major Ice Age eleven thousand years ago.  

The existence of a blazingly hot mantle plume existing under Marie Byrd land is something which scientists have speculated about for around thirty years because of the unique conditions in this particular area of Antarctica and the domed feature of the landscape there. However, until now there has been no solid evidence to support this idea.

This has all changed because of the work at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory who commenced the project because they were interested to know what was causing the instability in the region. According to the leader of the project Hélène Seroussi, the team were actually initially sceptical about the idea that a mantle plume could be causing the unique conditions. She said that she found the idea ‘crazy’. “I didn’t see how we could have that amount of heat and still have ice on top of it, ” she said.

However, the team created a huge number of advanced numerical models to calculate how much heat would need to be generated underneath the thick ice sheet to account for geological anomalies such as the domed appearance of the landscape and the lakes and rivers in the bedrock and eventually they came to the conclusion that there simply had to be a mantle plume in this area.

Once they had come to the conclusion that it was likely that they were dealing with a mantle plume, the team dispatched to Yellowstone to analyse the geothermal heat created by the super volcano and found that it was comparable to the amount of heat being generated in Marie Byrd Land. At Yellowstone, around 200 milliwatts is generated per square meter every hour by the heat of the volcano. In Marie Byrd land approximately 150 milliwatts is generated in the same space of time. The scientists note that if the supervolcano underneath Antarctica was any hotter then it would certainly melt the ice in the surrounding area.

The team believes that the mantle plume is coming from a rift in the Earth’s crust and that it is likely that this particular rift and mantle plume formed between fifty and a hundred and ten million years ago, prior to the region being covered with ice.

According to the research team, these investigations could prove to be acutely important in the future. As scientists endeavour to understand the nature of the landscape of Antarctica and attempt to

make predictions about how it will evolve and change in the future this kind of information is absolutely essential.

De meteoriet die het einde van de dino’s inluidde, stortte net op zo’n voor hen rampzalige plek neer. Brute pech dus.

De prehistorische beesten zouden 65-66 miljoen jaar geleden mogelijk niet uitgestorven zijn, was de meteoriet van, naar schatting, negen km diameter ingeslagen op zowat eender welke andere plaats op onze planeet. Op 87 procent van de aardoppervlakte zou de inslag misschien niet de massale uitroeiing van dino’s tot gevolg hebben gehad, volgens Kunio Kaiho en Naga Oshima van de Tohoku Universiteit in Japan.

Het kolossale stenen gevaarte stortte te pletter op het Mexicaanse schiereiland Yucatán, dat dus - helaas voor de dino’s - tot de dertien andere procent van de aarde behoorde. Een enorme klap moet het geweest zijn: de inslagkrater bij Chicxulub was maar liefst 180 km breed en 20 km diep. De concentratie van koolwaterstoffen in de rotsen was er zo hoog dat de in de lucht vrijgekomen roet- en sulfaatdeeltjes wereldwijd afkoeling en droogte veroorzaakten. Er kwamen tsunami’s en aardbevingen van, over heel de planeet. De zon werd verduisterd door het stof, de temperatuur op aarde zakte met tien graden Celsius. Niet alleen de dino’s - die volgens sommige paleontologen al langer in verval waren - kenden zo een abrupt einde: 75 procent van alle zee- en landdieren stierf uit.

De onderzoekers zochten uit hoeveel roet en sulfaat een virtuele meteorietinslag de stratosfeer zou inblazen naargelang de hoeveelheid koolwaterstof en sulfaat in de grond. Dan berekenden ze vanaf wanneer de afkoeling van onze planeet zo groot zou zijn dat ze een massavernietiging kan veroorzaken. Volgens Kaiho en Oshima bereikt een meteorietinslag dat punt als er tussen de 230 miljoen en 2.300 miljoen ton roet in de bovenste atmosfeer geblazen wordt. En dat scenario blijkt slechts mogelijk voor dertien procent van de aardoppervlakte.

Uit een internationaal onderzoek in 2014 bleek dat de dinosaurussen mogelijk hadden kunnen overleven. Namelijk als de gigantische steen op een “geschikter tijdstip” was ingeslagen, wanneer de dinosoorten gevarieerder en dus meer bestand zouden geweest zijn.

En nu argumenteren wetenschappers bovendien dat niet alleen het tijdstip van cruciaal belang kan geweest zijn, maar ook de plaats van de inslag. Volgens paleontoloog Kaiho zou er “geen afkoeling, of een lichtere afkoeling, geweest zijn” als de meteoriet was neergestort op rotsen met minder organisch materiaal. Hij vat het lot van de dino’s daarom zo samen: “Ze hadden pech”. Voor de mens betekende het dan weer wel dat zoogdieren door de ondergang van de dinosaurussen betere ontwikkelingskansen kregen.

300,000-year-old skulls that look shockingly like ours could rewrite the human origin story

Precisely when and where did our species emerge? Anthropologists have struggled with that question for decades, and scattered clues had suggested the answer lay somewhere in sub-Saharan Africa about 200,000 years ago.

But new evidence outlined in two papers published in the journal Nature challenges that hypothesis. Instead, the authors describe recently discovered remains that suggest the first Homo sapiens showed up more than 100,000 years earlier than we thought in a place many experts didn't suspect.

The fossils could represent the earliest known examples of H. sapiens ever found (if confirmed by further research), and they serve as evidence that members of our species lived beyond sub-Saharan Africa.

Skulls in the dust

In 1961, a crew of miners was plowing into a dense wall of limestone in a hilly region west of Marrakesh when they struck a soft patch. The hardened beige surface gave way to a mound of cinnamon-colored dirt. Peeking out of the earth was a sliver of human skull.

A bit more digging revealed a nearly-complete skull, which the miners turned over to their field doctor. As word about the discovery spread, researchers flocked to the area. They uncovered more remains, including several pieces of jaw bone and a fragment of an arm. At the time, scientists pegged the fossils as roughly 40,000 years old, a few thousand years before our extinct European relatives, the Neanderthals, were thought to have vanished.

But they hadn't dug deep enough.

Roughly 40 years later, anthropologist Jean-Jacques Hublin and his team from the Max Planck Institute excavated the half-dozen layers of soil beneath the land where the skull and arm bones had been discovered. There, the team found remains that they say belong to at least five individuals, along with a set of flint blades which had likely been burned, perhaps by nearby cooking fires. 

Using a dating technique that measures how much radiation had built up in the flint since it was heated, Hublin and his team say the ancient bones belong to people who lived roughly 300,000-350,000 years ago. 

"These dates were a big wow," Hublin said on a recent call with reporters.

Still, the biggest discovery didn't come until the team looked more closely at the skulls.

A striking resemblance

When Hublin peered into the cavernous eye sockets of one of the skulls, he was astonished.

Instead of the robust features he was accustomed to seeing on the faces of an ancient human ancestor like Homo erectus or Homo heidelbergensis, this face bore a striking resemblance to his own. Where an erectus skull had a single, protruding brow ridge, these individuals had smaller, separated ones. Rather than a large face and a flattened skull, these people had small faces and rounder skulls.

"The face of these people is really a face that falls right in the middle of the modern variation," said Hublin. "They had a skull that is more elongated than most of us, but I'm not sure these people would stand out from a crowd today."

Their braincase (shown below in blue) also seemed to fall somewhere between what one might expect in an ancient human ancestor and a modern human, albeit slightly more similar to those of our archaic ancestors.

This unique combination of advanced and archaic features suggests something profound, Hublin said -- he's convinced the Moroccan specimens "represent the very root of our species."

In other words, all of the Homo sapiens ever found -- including those uncovered far beyond Africa -- may trace their ancestral linkages to the land that is today's Morocco. 

That suggestion contradicts the prevailing anthropological logic that our species evolved somewhere deep in sub-Saharan Africa, in what some researchers have referred to as a "Garden of Eden," then gradually moved out to other parts of the world. Instead, Hublin and his team argue that Homo sapiens could have been living in terrain across Africa.

According to Sonia Zakrzewski, an associate professor of archaeology at the University of Southampton, Hublin's discovery could encourage other archaeologists to change the way they think about human origins. "It really sets the world alight in terms of the possibilities for understanding the evolution of Homo sapiens," she said. "It certainly means that we need to rethink our models."

Is this the original video of the 1942 ‘Battle of Los Angeles UFO Sighting’?

The Battle of Los Angeles, also known as The Great Los Angeles Air Raid, is the name given by contemporary sources to an incident in Los Angeles, California, in which, after city-wide alarms went off due to an alleged enemy attack, the US antiaircraft defenses touched off a massive barrage of anti-aircraft fire, with some 1400 shells shot into the skies over Los Angeles during the frantic evening.

The incident occurred less than three months after the United States joined the Second World War as a result of the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Imperial Japanese Navy, and a day after the Ellwood Bombing on February 23.

Initially, it was thought that the barrage of anti-aircraft fire was in response to an attack from the Japanese air force, but speaking at a press conference shortly afterward, US Navy Secretary Frank Knox described the incident as a “false alarm”.

The newspapers of the time published a series of reports and speculated about cover-ups.

Some ufologists have had even claimed that a massive barrage of anti-aircraft fire did not target Japanese bombers, but alien spaceships.

But, as it seems that all ‘good UFO sightings’ are nothing more than weather balloons, in 1983, the United States Air Force History Office attributed the event to a case of “nerves of war” likely triggered by a lost weather balloon and exacerbated by stray flares and shell bursts from adjoining batteries.

Representative Leland Ford of Santa Monica called for a Congressional investigation, saying, “…none of the explanations so far offered removed the episode from the category of ‘complete mystification’ … this was either a practice raid, or a raid to throw a scare into 2,000,000 people, or a mistaken identity raid, or a raid to lay a political foundation to take away Southern California’s war industries.”

However, based mainly on an image, published in the Los Angeles Times on February 26, 1942, Ufologists around the globe believe that the US military did not shoot at a weather balloon or Japenese bombers on the late hours of 24 February to early 25 February, but a real saucer-shaped UFO.

Ufologists assert that the photo clearly shows searchlights focused on an alien spaceship.

An inquest into the mysterious death of a British conspiracy theorist who died after 'vomiting black liquid' on a trip to Poland has been postponed.

The sudden death of Max Spiers, 39, remains shrouded in suspicion after a friend discovered his body during a trip to Poland.

His inquest opened in December 2016 and the court heard he vomited two litres of black blood before he died.

It was due to resume this Thursday in Maidstone, Kent, but has now been adjourned again with no explanation for the delay and little prospect of it happening this year.

The father-of-two, from Canterbury, had become world-famous in the shadowy world of conspiracy theories and allegedly made many 'enemies' in his investigations.

Shortly before his death, Mr Spiers was said to have been probing the lives of well-known figures in politics, business and entertainment.

At the time his mother Vanessa Bates, 63, said she feared the worst.

She said: 'I think Max had been digging in some dark places and somebody wanted him dead.'

Authorities in Poland, where Mr Spiers was attending a conference, initially concluded the sudden death was due to natural causes.

Mr Spiers was known as a 'supersoldier' by his followers and those in the conspiracy and supernatural community, and went to school with the actor Orlando Bloom. 

After his body was repatriated to the UK, doctors at a Margate hospital were unable to determine the cause of his death.

Kent Police then launched a joint investigation with Polish police into the conspiracy theorist's death.

At an inquest opening in Canterbury in December 2016, the court heard how the 39-year-old had been visiting Poland to speak at a conference after holidaying with a friend in Cyprus.

In a statement, coroner's investigations officer Caroline O'Donnell said: 'When they returned, Mr Spiers became ill with a high temperature and was weak.

'The following day, Mr Spiers vomited two litres of black fluid. The friend called a doctor who attempted resuscitation before pronouncing him dead.'

Her theory was shared by many online, with other conspiracy theorists, UFO investigators and bloggers calling the circumstances of Mr Spiers' death suspicious.

At the time, Coroner Alan Blunsdon told the court he was still awaiting a report from Polish authorities, adding that the workload of Kent Police may delay forensic analysis of Mr Spiers' phone and computer.

“It’s a completely new and different challenge to get a laser system into a smaller, airborne test platform. It’s exciting to see this technology mature enough to embed in an aircraft.”

Too big to put on a jet

In a press release this week, Dr. Rob Afzal, senior fellow of laser weapon systems at Lockheed, described what the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) will get in return for a $26.3 million contract for a high power fiber laser. The technology is based on Lockheed’s 60 kW-class laser that can be mounted on land vehicles and has been swatting drones like annoying missile-firing flies in tests. However, putting that same technology on an aircraft is not easy as just checking it in as a carry-on bag upon boarding.

“We have developed innovative fiber lasers, sophisticated beam control and auxiliary technologies. Combined with expert platform integration, these advances enable offensive and defensive capabilities against a growing range of threats to military forces and infrastructure.”

The fiber laser technology is the key to the Air Force’s Self-protect High Energy Laser Demonstrator (SHiELD) program, which will integrate the laser (Laser Advancements for Next-generation Compact Environments or LANCE) into a beam control system for directing the laser (SHiELD Turret Research in Aero Effects or STRAFE) and a special pod to keep the laser cool while firing (Laser Pod Research & Development or LPRD). This also puts Lockheed at the forefront of clever acronym development, which includes Accelerated Laser Demonstration Initiative (ALADIN), Advanced Test High Energy Asset (ATHENA) and Area Defense Anti-Munitions (ADAM).

In an interview with CNBC, defense analyst Daniel Goure describes the benefits of airborne lasers:

“You get a low cost per shot — much cheaper than a missile in almost every case. I have always been rather fascinated by the fact that strange tales, ominous curses, and inexplicable deaths or vanishings can revolve around some of the more gorgeous of locales. There seems to be some disconnect between the awe-inspiring beauty to be found here and the often very dark legends and unsolved mysteries that pervade them. It is strange to think that coursing under the veneer of such natural splendor there is a dark current of the unexplained and perhaps even evil. Such places can be at once achingly saturated with beauty yet also imbued with a sense of inexplicable dread and an unsettling quality of doom. One such place is the world famous Yosemite National Park of California, in the United States. It is a hauntingly beautiful expanse which simultaneously seems to be actually haunted, and ground zero for a slew of strange vanishings as well.

Sprawled out across 747,956 acres (1,168.681 sq. mi) of wilderness in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California, in the United States, is the majestic Yosemite National Park. Known throughout the world for its amazing vistas of pristine mountainous wilderness, glaciers, towering giant sequoia trees, looming granite cliffs, unique geologic formations, breathtaking waterfalls, wildlife, and incredibly clear lakes and streams, Yosemite has been registered as a World Heritage Site and draws in around 4 to 5 million visitors every year from every corner of the globe. It would seem at first glance that such natural splendor would be one of the last places where one would expect to find dark mysteries and the supernatural, but the park has a surprising amount of such phenomena, including curses, hauntings, and bizarre unsolved vanishings.

One of the most persistent locations of strange legends and mysterious occurrences within Yosemite National Park is a place called Tenaya Canyon, which runs from Tenaya lake to meander through the landscape in a series of picturesque deep pools, waterfalls and flowing cascades to its final destination of a stark drop into another deep canyon at the granite mountain called Cloud’s Rest, situated right next to the iconic and spectacular Half Dome. A stunningly beautiful yet treacherous spot, Tenaya Canyon has been shrouded in myth and strangeness since just about as long as humans have been in the area, and it is also steeped in a rather dark and violent history that has given rise to rumors of a sinister curse hanging over the area.

Yosemite National Park

When white settlers arrived in Yosemite Valley they encountered a tribe of Native Americans called the Ahwahnee, who were a peaceful people but also prone to occasionally poaching livestock from their new neighbors. In the 1850s, the whites decided that they had had enough of sharing the land with the troublesome natives, and sought to relocate the Ahwahnee to a reservation off in Fresno, California. The normally peaceful Ahwahnee, led by a Chief Tenaya, did not go perhaps as compliantly as was expected, actively and vocally defying the order to get out. Eventually, the white settlers sent in a contingent of armed men led by a Captain John Boling to forcibly remove the tribe, and things went just about as well as you would expect.

Instead of fleeing in fear, as was expected of the usually apparently docile natives, the Ahwahnee instead opted to stubbornly stand their ground and fight. During the ensuing violence, Chief Tenaya’s son was among the dead, which sent him into a profound rage in which he invoked a curse on the valley against the white man. The chief supposedly blared out this curse as he was confronted by an armed captain during the battle, saying:

Kill me, sir captain! Yes kill me, as you killed my son; as you would kill my people if they were to come to you! You would kill all my race if you had the power. You have made me sorrowful, my life dark; you killed the child of my heart, why not kill the father? You may kill me sir captain, but you shall not live in peace, I will follow in your footsteps, I will not leave my home but be with the spirits among the rocks, the waterfalls, in the rivers and in the wind; wheresoever you go I will be with you. You will not see me, but you will fear the spirit of the old chief, and grow cold.

Since then, the chief has allegedly been true to his words, and in the years since that fateful day Tenaya Canyon, and by some accounts the whole Yosemite Valley, has been said to be plagued by all manners of freak accidents, strange deaths, mishaps, and unexplained phenomena such as unexplained noises and shadowy apparitions. There are supposedly far more incidents of rock climbing and hiking accidents and fatalities in the Tenaya area than other places in the park, and so many people have gone missing here that it has garnered itself the ominous nickname of “The Bermuda Triangle of Yosemite.” Even the legendary naturalist and extremely experienced mountaineer John Muir was not immune to this supposed curse, when he met with a near-fatal accident while exploring the canyon in 1873, which he later wrote of in his 1918 book Steep Trails, saying:

I was ascending a precipitous rock front, smoothed by glacial action, when I suddenly fell—for the first time since I touched foot to Sierra rocks. After several somersaults, I became insensible from the shock, and when consciousness returned I found myself wedged among short, stiff bushes… I could not remember what made me fall, or where I had fallen from; but I saw that if I had rolled a little further, my mountain climbing would have been finished, for just beyond the bushes the canyon wall steepened and I might have fallen to the bottom.

Of course, considering that the terrain here is notorious for being some of the most hostile and forbidding in the entire park it may not be surprising that there should be so many disappearances, deaths, and accidents at Tenaya Canyon. Here there are numerous sharp drops, sheer rock walls, uneven, often slippery footing, and precarious climbs daunting to even the most experienced of hikers. It is a place of natural danger, and indeed the 10-mile trail along its length harbors numerous warning signs proclaiming the perils of continuing, and the official park trail guide map marks the hike in stark red with a disclaimer reading, “Hiking in Tenaya Canyon is dangerous and strongly discouraged.”

Whether the canyon is truly cursed or not, there are certainly a lot of supposedly haunted places around Yosemite Park as well. One of the most notorious of these is the former Ahwahnee Hotel, spookily named after the previously mentioned doomed tribe. Opened in 1927 just a short distance from Half Dome, the Ahwahnee Hotel at the time was a big deal in that it was a large, luxurious hotel in an area known for mostly camping and small lodges, and its elegant yet rustic, organic feel and the majestic grandeur of its scenic surroundings quickly made it a popular destination for the many tourists who pour into the area every year. It has also become well-known for being rather intensely haunted.

There are numerous ghosts said to inhabit the hotel, such as that of a woman named Mary Curry Tressider, who had been part of the hotel’s design and opening and who lived and died in her private apartment here in 1970. Her spirit supposedly lingers on the 6th floor, where her room was located, and sightings of her ghost are frequently reported by staff and guests alike. The entity is said to be prankish more than frightening, and is known for tucking in visitors as they sleep, folding clothes, and misplacing items around rooms, as well as calling out to guests.

Another spirit said to inhabit the Ahwahnee Hotel is connected to a rocking chair kept in the room that former U.S. president John F. Kennedy stayed in during a visit in 1962. At the time the chair had been put in the room at the president’s request, as he had claimed that he had been having back pain, and he reportedly spent a lot of time sitting there calmly rocking away. The chair was removed from the room when he left, but oddly enough since his death a spectral rocking chair has often been reported moving on its own in rooms and halls throughout the hotel’s 3rd floor, which is where Kennedy’s room had been, and especially in the actual room itself. Although these are the two most well-known of the hotel’s phantoms, the entire premises have provided their fair share of accounts of anomalous noises, disembodied footsteps, and apparitions, and the Awahnee hotel helped to inspire the look and design of the Overlook Hotel from Stanley Kubrick’s classic horror film The Shining.

Another haunted hotel in Yosemite National Park is the Sierra Sky Ranch, and considering its historical pedigree it is perhaps no surprise at all that ghosts should call this place home. Originally built in 1877, the Sierra Sky Ranch started its life as a sanitarium for housing and quarantining victims of tuberculosis, who lived mostly in squalor forgotten by society and many of whom died here, including children. In later years the premises became a home for veterans of World War I, after which it went on to become the modest, 29-room hotel it is today, where guests constantly report a range of weird paranormal activity.

One of the most common types of ghostly occurrence at the Sierra Sky Ranch is that of phantom children, who are said to run up and down stairs and halls, and who can be heard giggling, whispering, or talking when no one is around or in the very walls themselves. These spectral children are reportedly most often sighted in the media room and the main living room area of the hotel, and are blamed for some of the anomalous poltergeist activity reported from here, such as lights, faucets, or appliances turning on or off by themselves, doors opening or slamming shut when no one is around, and guests’ clothes being tugged by unseen hands. Other ghosts said to inhabit the Sierra Sky Ranch are a woman who supposedly lurks about the main house and library and who smells of perfume, a ghostly bar patron who kisses bar visitors and bartenders on the cheek, and the more sinister entity of a scowling, angry looking man who paces about on the hotel veranda and is known to violently knock over furniture.

Besides hotels, some natural landmarks of Yosemite are also said to be haunted. One of the most famous ghosts of the park is said to lurk in Grouse Lake, and was first officially reported in 1857 by Galen Clark, who was to later become Yosemite’s very first park ranger in 1867. Clark had his strange experience as he was out on a hike to the small alpine lake, and he claimed that as he walked along its shores that he had heard a chilling, unearthly wail seeming to come from the water itself and sounding like “a puppy when lost.” The unsettled Clark would later ask some Native Americans of the area what kind of animal it was that he had heard or if they had a dog that could have made the noise, and they proceeded to tell him that it was no animal or dog, but rather the spirit of a tribal boy who had tragically drowned there years ago and who did not take kindly to visitors. It was even claimed that he would attack anyone who set foot in the water. Clark would write of this:

They replied that it was not a dog—that a long time ago an Indian boy had been drowned in the lake, and that every time anyone passed there he always cried after them, and no one dared go into the lake, for (the boy) would catch them by the legs and pull them down and they would be drowned. I then concluded that it must have been some unseen waterfowl that made that cry, and at that time I thought that the Indians were trying to impose on my credulity, but I am now convinced they fully believed the story they told me.

There is also the haunting of perhaps Yosemite’s most famous waterfalls, Bridalveil Fall, which cascades 617 feet down a sheer granite cliff. The Ahwahnee tribe believed that the fall was the haunt of an evil spirit called Pohono, who was known to try and lure unsuspecting victims over the precipice to their deaths. The method by which the spirit was said to do this varied, in some cases using hypnotic rainbows in the mist to draw people closer and in other cases calling out to use curiosity against victims or even appearing as an apparition to beckon people closer, after which a strong gust of wind would fling them over the fall. Indeed, there have been a few recorded deaths of people being blown over the fall or slipping and falling to the rocks far below, and the winds are said to be very unpredictable at the top. Campers in the area have also reported hearing strange voices or sounds coming from the direction of the fall at night. Whether this is the doing of an evil spirit or not, in present day there are many railings in place to keep people from getting too close.

Bridalveil Fall

A strange case I found of a possible ghost roaming the wilderness of Yosemite concerns a 26-year-old Christopher Thompson, who claims that during one camping trip to the park he came across something very strange indeed. He says that as he went out to get some firewood he spied an old Native American man standing by his tent, who wore some sort of bell around his neck that rang out every time he moved. The mysterious man then allegedly asked Thompson for a ride out to the main road because he had gotten lost. Thompson decided to drive him all the way to the ranger’s office as it was getting dark outside, and when they reached his truck the witness claims that the old man insisted on sitting in the back seat.

So far, so weird, but it would get stranger still. Thompson claims that as he got into the truck he caught a glimpse of the old Native man in the side mirror, and that he was swaying and muttering some sort of chant in some alien language. After this, Thompson panicked and drove off on his own to the ranger’s office, where he reported the whole creepy encounter. He would later find that the mysterious figure had left something rather odd behind in the form of an animal skin pouch that was found to contain strange stones and herbs, which locals informed him were cursed. Thompson would say, “I’m still haunted by dreams where I’m paralyzed and I can still hear him muttering that chant.” It is an odd tale to be sure, and one wonders just who or what he encountered out there in those woods.

Besides curses and hauntings, Yosemite has been the location of a fair number of inexplicable disappearances as well. By far the most oft-discussed and hotly debated mysterious vanishings to have occurred at Yosemite National Park is the disappearance of 14-year-old Stacy Ann Arras in 1981. On the afternoon on July 17, 1981, Arras was on a camping trip with her father and 6 others at the Sunrise Sierra Camp, a small cluster of cabins for people passing through on hikes along the popular “mountain chalet” loop. Arras had arrived on horseback with her group, and she soon expressed interest in taking some photos of a nearby lake. Since it was not far her father did not deem it necessary to go with her, but another member of the group, a 72-year-old man, decided to go with her.

As they approached the lake, the man reportedly sat down to take a rest as Arras went on ahead. In the meantime, other members of the group looked down on the whole thing from a ridge, and watched as Arras disappeared into some trees. When she did not return within a reasonable length of time the group went off looking for her but would find only the lens of her camera and no other trace of the girl whatsoever. An extensive official search of the area using helicopters and tracker dogs would have no further luck, and eventually it was called off with no evidence at all of what had happened to Stacy Arras or where she had gone. Park superintendent Robert Binnewies would say at the time, “She just seems to have disappeared.”

The strange disappearance of Stacy Ann Arras gained a fair amount of publicity and gained a cult following among researchers of the paranormal and unexplained, and the case has gained quite a lot of notoriety through the work of David Paulides, a famous author on mysterious vanishings who has written numerous books on the matter, in particular on those which have occurred within U.S. national parks. Paulides added some sinister intrigue when he claimed that from the beginning of his investigation of the Arras case park officials were evasive and reticent to release any information on it when faced with a request under the Freedom of Information Act, even going as far as to allegedly deliberately withhold, obfuscate, and flat-out hide facts relating to it. Indeed, Paulides has repeatedly accused national park officials as being corrupt and suspiciously secretive on such mysterious disappearances. Is there something sinister going on behind this case? It is hard to say, and the Arras disappearance has gone on to become widely discussed and picked apart all over the Internet with no solution in sight.

More recent disappearances include the 2005 vanishing of 51-year-old Michael Allen Ficery, who was an avid, experienced hiker and backpacker. On June 15, 2005, Ficery headed out on a hike along the north end of the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, but at some point changed his mind and went up to the Pacific Crest Trail. This would be the last time anyone would see him. When he did not return after his wilderness permit expired a search was carried out, but all that could be found was a backpack containing a topographical map, a camera and a bottle of water. A massive search involving personnel from five counties utilizing aircraft and tracker dogs were unable to find any trace of the missing hiker, and his case remains utterly unsolved.

In June of 2011 there was the case of 30-year-old George Penca, who was out hiking at the Upper Yosemite Falls with his church group. During the hike, Penca fell behind the group and proceeded to completely vanish off the face of the earth. Despite extensive searches of the area, no sign of him was found. Strangely, Yosemite National Park unceremoniously and discreetly took down his missing persons page in the coming weeks. Perhaps even stranger still is the disappearance of 35-year-old Allen Martin, of Modesto, California in February of 2016. On the evening of February 9, 2016, Martin visited the Chicken Ranch Casino and left the premises at approximately 4:08 PM. Security footage captured him walking across the parking lot and he then apparently walked right off the face of the earth. Martin has not been seen since.

Yosemite National Park is a place of great beauty, but it is also one of great mystery. From ancient Native curses, to ghosts, to mysterious disappearances, it is fascinating to see how a locale of such natural splendor can also harbor such dark secrets. Do some areas hold close to them some force or presence that creates this aura of sinister energy? Is there some unique quality to these locations that invites the weird and the paranormal? Or are these just the product of over-active imaginations and the perilous terrain inherit to such places? Whatever the answer may be, Yosemite National Park continues to be one of the most beloved national parks in the United States, and also one of the most mysterious.

UFO chicken coop is out of this world

BOISE, Idaho (WKRC) - A couple from Boise, Idaho designed a chicken coop that looks like a UFO.

They even installed flashing lights on the climate-controlled coop.

They say they did it to demonstrate their love for the extraterrestrial.

Ellen Deangelis said, "We kind of brainstormed how we were going to build that classic shape and the first discussion was out of wood but we really wanted something a little more curvy and we decided the satellite dishes were going to be perfect for what we needed."

The pair say they plan to add an automatic ramp.
