NASA’S ‘VOYAGER GOLDEN RECORDS’ ARE GETTING AN OFFICIAL RELEASE

The records were blasted into space with the hope of being discovered by aliens in the 70s

    PATRICK HINTON

NASA’s ‘Voyager Golden Records’ are getting an official release

In 1977, NASA and Carl Sagan sent a collection of golden vinyl records containing the sounds of humanity such as greetings in over 50 languages and classical masterpieces from Bach and Mozart with detailed playing instructions into space in search of extraterrestrial life.

Last year a Kickstarter campaign was launched by David Pescovitz of Boing Boing to raise the funds to release copies of Carl Sagan and NASA’s ‘Voyager Golden Records’ upon the 40 year anniversary of the project.

The crowdfund has been successful, and now ‘The Voyager Golden Record’ is coming out via OZMA Records on CD on December 1, with an extensive 3 LP box set following in February.

Pre-order it via Light In The Attic and stream the various recordings of life on earth NASA included on the original vinyl below.

Jacques Vallee's "Passport to Magonia: From Folklore to Flying Saucers" still packs punch

    Daily Grail Publications

BOOK  REVIEW: Passport to Magonia: From Folklore to Flying Saucers by Jacques Vallee (Daily Grail Publishing) 2014/ 1969

Having further familiarized myself with the 50-plus year old writings of John A. Keel these past few months, finally getting down and reading long-loved cult classics like Operation Trojan Horse (1970) and The Mothman Prophecies (1975), the repeated references to the works of French-American scientist and ufologist Jacques Vallee – a contemporary, and friend, of the late John A. Keel – finally convinced me that Vallee’s own classic, Passport to Magonia, was required reading.

Why? Because Keel, in his entertaining and entirely readable way, helped pull away the masks of the manipulative pranksters (“ultraterrestrials”) of the Superspectrum, essentially reporting that these entities have taken on different guises over the millennia –and that they have always shared our planet, despite humanity not knowing who they really are or where they live.

They are here. It’s just they are the ones who decide when they appear before human beings and in what form. Most commonly, in the Middle Ages, they were seen as the fairies and elves of ancient folklore, and so forth.

But with time came change and the “costumes” and methods also changed, as we entered the age of the airplane and the “Space Age,” with the  increased appearance of “craft,” allegedly piloted by “aliens” who are here to help mankind and steer us to a New Age, or so we are told.

And so it is interesting how both Keel and Vallee both tapped into the idea that took them from believing the extraterrestrial angle regarding aliens and UFOs to promoting the interdimensional idea, which dismisses the theory that the "visitors" are travelers from another planet.

On the day I began reading Passport to Magonia (Nov. 16th), I later learned that I was reading the book on the 40th anniversary of the release of the Steven Spielberg-directed film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. In this film, a French scientist character named Lacombe (played by Francois Truffaut) was directly inspired by Vallee.

In any event, Passport to Magonia ("Magonia" being a mythological "cloud realm" populated by the entities so often encountered during modern cases of UFO sightings or in antiquity) highlights the idea, as Vallee writes in the preface, that "investigators (into UFOs) have never recognized the fact that belief identical to those held today have recurred throughout recorded history and under forms best adapted to the believer's country, race, and social regime."

Vallee also admits that when he wrote the manuscript for Passport to Magonia in the late 1960's, he "entirely forgot that I was a scientist by profession," confessing that he felt science was not pursuing questions that human beings have in their hearts. And as a scientist, he opted to delve into the lengthy history of folklore, from around the world, and in Europe and the Americas in particular, noting the large number of strange beings, aerial craft ("cloudships") and other odd events that perplexed man and woman alike over the centuries.

And what better way to interfere with the destiny of human beings as we become more technologically advanced. The forces that are appearing in various forms (short beings, tall beings, male or female, with masks, gas masks, helmets, long hair, no hair, big eyes, small eyes, mouth movement or telepathy ...) over the years seem to understand that, as Vallee writes, "(h)uman actions are based on imagination, belief, and faith, not on objective observation ..." Yes, we are human and fallible.

Continuing, Vallee writes: "Even science, which claims its methods and theories are rationally developed, is really shaped by emotion and fancy, or by fear. And to control human imagination is to shape mankind's collective destiny, provided the source of this control is not identifiable by the public." Indeed!

From the fairies, "wee folk" "Gentry," "Good People," and dwarves that haunted to European countryside to today's seemingly solid "flying saucers," Vallee makes valid arguments that the phenomenon, over the centuries, are one and the same, as the book's cover seems to indicate.

But the cases are utterly fascinating - and shocking! Some involve pleasurable sex with alien women, as in the case of Brazlian famer Antonio Villas-Boas, back in 1957.

And going back to 17th century Scotland and the research of a Reverend Kirk, of Aberfoyle, he wrote a manuscript at the time titled The Secret Commonwealth of the Elves, Fauns and Fairies. Kirk offered up 16 bullet points about these "Elementals" who have "chameleon-like bodies" and have "fluid" bodies that allow them to appear and vanish at will. Sounds like many of the latter-day UFO sightings from folks who say they saw a craft one second and the next second it was gone.

The strange 1896-97 airship scare was particularly baffling, with Vallee recounting the case of a train engineer working near Texarkana, Arkansas (near Homan in Miller County) and while out hunting in May 1897, encountered an "airship" and a pilot, with whom he conversed. Was this a human? Was it something else? People all over the country, particularly in the middle of the country, were seeing these airships.

So, what happened to the First Fourth Norfolk, a British regiment fighting in what is now western Turkey in 1915? These men marched into a strange cloud at ground level and hundreds of British soldiers "disappeared" as the cloud lifted and the soldiers had vanished. The Turks told the British government they did not have these men as prisoners of war, not even knowing of their existence.

Then there is the curous case of Private First Class Gerry Irwin, a Nike nuclear missile technician stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, near El Paso. On Feb. 28, 1959, Irwin was driving between Nampa, Idaho and Fort Bliss when passing near Cedar City, Utah, he thought he saw a plane crash nearby. Going to investigate, Irwin would lose track of time and later be found unconscious.

Irwin was soon hospitalized and was found to be in decent health, and later discharged from the hospital at Fort Bliss. But life would not be the same for Irwin, as Vallee tells us the doomed man fell unconscious on an El Paso street and later felt compelled to take a bus to Cedar City, where the initial event had taken place, and find his jacket, which was still on a bush where he had left it.

Writes Vallee: "There was a pencil in a buttonhole with a piece of paper wound tightly around it. He took the paer and burned it. Then he seemed to come out of a trance." Irwin was perplexed as to why he was back in Utah. More psychological examinations were ordered, but by summer, it seemed Irwin had other plans, as he would soon disappear.

"On August 1," writes Vallee, "(Irwin) failed to report for duty. One month later he was listed as a deserter. He was never seen again.

Where did Private Irwin go? Is this the whole story?

It seems as though the entities that are bedeviling humanity seem to have a particular interest in folks serving in the military. And the Irwin case, we must note, took place during those early, volatile years of the Cold War, when nuclear war was considered a real threat.

And while Passport to Magonia is only 160 pages or so, there is a lengthy appendix to go over, followed by Vallee's collection of "UFO landings" over a century's time, from 1868 to 1968. One of the more interesting cases - and there are many! - were on Aug. 2 and Aug. 3, 1965 here in Oklahoma City. On Aug 2, "five children saw a brilliant, round object without wings, close to the ground int he 600 block of NW 63rd Street, which, even today, is an open area with railroad tracks crossing it. The following day, on Aug. 3rd, "a young man saw an object rise from (Lake Hefner)." The distance between the two locations is several miles.

Passport to Magonia has earned its rightful place as an essential tome covering the more occult and folkloric angles in these ongoing mysteries that continue to perplex us to this day.

Are souls free to travel across outer space?

    By Veenu Sandal

Unencumbered by a physical body and its many vital needs for survival such as oxygen, can souls or ghosts travel, apart from the seven astral worlds, to other planets? Can a soul be reborn on another planet? The UK Mirror recently carried a fascinating article headlined : “ ‘Genius’ Russian boy can remember previous life on Mars in astounding detail”. Steve Robson wrote that “…The curious case of Boriska Kipriyanovich, now aged 20, continues to startle experts… From an early age, he began telling experts about his previous life on Mars. Boris believes he lived among an alien civilisation that was ravaged by war and then a nuclear catastrophe. The Martians were seven feet tall and breathed carbon dioxide, he said.
“He claims he was a Martian pilot and travelled to earth where he was “reborn” in 1996.The human race has much more knowledge to unlock, and the Great Sphinx in Egypt holds the key, he says. “The human life will change when the Sphinx is opened, it has an opening mechanism somewhere behind the ear; I do not remember exactly,” claims Boriska… Boriska is said to have displayed much higher than average intelligence from young age and was reading, writing and speaking by just 18 months.”

Over the years, three different categories of “explanations” have covered strange happenings: supernatural or paranormal, the time-warp theory, and extraterrestrial. Does the case of Boriska Kipriyanovich fall in the extraterrestrial category or does it fall somewhere in between the paranormal—since it was a non-earthling born on earth—and the extraterrestrial categories? Incidentally, when I was travelling through remote villages in the Garhwal Himalayas, a village woman had narrated in minute detail a very interesting encounter with an alien who had a green skin. Curiously, a few months after this encounter she gave birth to a queer looking baby with green skin. News of the happening spread fast even from such a remote area and photographs of the “green baby” were taken but unfortunately, the baby died before it could be “scientifically” examined. However, after hearing the accounts scientists dismissed them as those of “gullible” people.

Yet significantly, the majority of worldwide sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects or UFOs and often their occupants have not come from illiterate, gullible people or people of unsound mind or prone to hallucinations. Many unimpeachable accounts of sightings are on record. Jimmy Carter, the former US President was quoted by the “National Enquirer” as saying, “I am convinced that UFO’s exist because I’ve seen one… It was a very peculiar aberration but about 20 people saw it… It was the darndest thing I’ve ever seen. It was big; it was very bright; it changed colours; and it was about the size of the moon…”

I for one would much rather believe documented accounts by such personalities of repute and many others like Nicholas Roerich, the famous Russian painter with such close connections with India, Sir Francis Chichester, the well known flier, sailor and navigator, than what scientists would have one believe. One of the most fascinating sightings of UFO occupants took place in Brazil. Jose C. Higgins, a member of a survey crew, was left to face three alien entities after other crew members fled. “One of them”, said Higgins, “used a stick to make eight holes in the ground that suggested a solar system with seven planets. The entity pointed to the outer one as being their home and called it Torque…”, later interpreted by UFO enthusiasts to denote that they came from Uranus.

The majority of scientists, including the well-known astronomer and writer Carl Sagan have been skeptical about UFOs and the existence of extraterrestrial beings. After all, they argue, it would require not only highly advanced technology to conquer time and space and travel to earth but a high level of not just intelligence but evolution and development as well. In any case, why would such advanced beings want to visit us—clearly primitive by comparison—on earth? Even if they do so and travel at the speed of light—186,000 miles per second—it would take several hundred or thousand years in planetary time to visit us and return to their planet.

Now, as to why they would want to visit us, who are we to decide on their reasons? On earth, don’t so called “advanced” people visit so called “primitive” tribes or communities, often spending long periods with them documenting their way of life? Talk of several hundred or thousand years in planetary time is no doubt based on presently known “scientific” calculations, but we all know that time is relative. Moreover, nobody has been able to measure the speed at which our thoughts or mind travels. In less than a second, your mind can be in London, New York, Tokyo, etc. etc, Mars, Uranus, Neptune, etc., etc.

Of course, the mind is not a metallic spaceship but then the scientists are assuming that interstellar travellers, if they exist, must have conquered time and space. To illustrate a point, remember that ancient time—mythical or otherwise—when Icarus tried to fly with wings of wax? The human race at that point would have been astounded to hear about the supersonic Concorde. Yet the supersonic possibility existed even then, has existed all along, but the means to recognise it and harness it was not known.

Similarly, spirit guides and reliable personal accounts—too long to enumerate here—have confirmed that it is possible though not commonplace for certain souls to travel to other planets. It is known that souls and ghosts can cross time and space in a jiffy but for most people a lot still remains in the realm of the unknown. In fact, who really knows how many unrecognised and unharnessed possibilities exist upon earth, in the universe and beyond? An excerpt from the Song of Creation is particularly thought provoking in this context: “Who verily knows and who can here declare it, whence it was born and whence this creation comes? / The gods are later than this world’s production. Who knows, then, whence it first came into being?/ He, the first origin of this creation, whether he formed it all or did not form it, / Whose eye controls this world in highest heaven, he verily knows it, or perhaps he knows not.”

What is causing the mysterious 'booms' heard in 64 locations around the world this year?

    • Most recently, a 'boom' was heard across much of the north of Alabama
    • Suggested causes include supersonic aircrafts, a ground explosion, or a bolide
    • Other booms have occurred in Cairns on October 10 and Abergavenny on May 11
    • Incidents of these mystery booms are becoming more frequent

Residents in Alabama were left baffled last week when a loud boom resounded across much of the state.

The boom, nicknamed 'Bama Boom', has left experts stumped, with suggested causes ranging from supersonic aircrafts to meteors exploding in the atmosphere.

This isn't the first time that the mysterious sound has been heard, and incidents are becoming more frequent according to some reports.

This year alone, similar noises have been reported 64 times this year, in locations including Michigan, Lapland, St Ives, Swansea and Yorkshire.

Mysterious booms have been reported 64 times this year, in locations including Michigan, Lapland, St Ives, Swansea and Yorkshire. Incidents are becoming more frequent according to some reports.

    WHAT COULD THEY BE?

In 2017 alone, 64 booms have been heard worldwide.

The cause of most of the booms remains a mystery, although several explanations have been suggested.

    1) Sonic booms

A sonic boom is the sound associated with the shock waves created by an object traveling through the air faster than the speed of sound – such as supersonic aircrafts.

Sonic booms generate significant amounts of sound energy, sounding like an explosion to the human ear.

    2) Military exercises

Many unexplained loud noises can be put down to military training, either at Army or Naval bases or in remote areas used for such exercises.

    3) Controlled explosions

A controlled explosion is a method for detonating or disabling a suspected explosive device, such as bags left at train stations.

    4) Unusual weather

Many loud noises link back to unusual weather events, such as electrical storms or thunder storms.

    5) Meteors

Large meteors passing above Earth often produce shock waves that can be heard as a sonic boom.

    6) Sound amplified from aircraft

Some have suggested that the sound was due to inversion - a phenomenon that occurs when a layer of warm air sits over a layer of cooler air, magnifying the sound of an aircraft miles away.

    7) Aliens

Some conspiracy theorists claim that the mysterious booms are noises created by aliens - although there is no evidence to support this.

    Alabama, November 14

Cause: Unknown, suggested explanations include a sonic boom from an aircraft or a meteorite

The Birmingham National Weather Service tweeted: 'Loud boom heard: we do not see anything indicating large fire/smoke on radar or satellite; nothing on USGS indicating an earthquake.'

The service suggested that the sound was either caused by a sonic boom from aircraft, or a meteorite from the Leonid shower.

But Nasa has since cast doubt on these explanations.

Speaking to ABC 3340, Bill Cooke, head of Nasa's Meteoroid Environment Office, said that the boom could have been caused by a supersonic aircraft, a ground explosion, or a bolide - a large meteor that explodes in the atmosphere unrelated to the Leonid shower.

While the noise was picked up by the US Geological Survey, data suggests that the boom wasn't the result of an earthquake.

The boom may have been caused by a military flight by a supersonic jet, although the US Air Force is yet to confirm this.

The Bama Boom is just one of many mysterious booms heard worldwide this year.

    Idaho, November 15

    Cause: Unknown

The day after the boom in Alabama, a similar noise was heard in Idaho.

Multiple people reported hearing a loud boom over the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley around 23:00.

Many of the reports described the sound as being similar to a sonic boom, although its cause and location remain unclear.

    Cairns, October 10

Cause: Unknown, suggested explanations include a meteorite, a gas bottle explosion or military plane

On October 10, a boom was heart over Cairns, Queensland that had the city baffled.

While the noise in Alabama was picked up by the US Geological Survey (graph  pictured), data suggests that the boom wasn't the result of an earthquake

Residents' theories ranged from a meteorite to a gas bottle explosion or military plane.

A FA-18 Hornet plane was heard flying over Cairns the previous night, but no jets were flying on the night when the 'explosion' happened.

The Birmingham National Weather Service tweeted: 'Loud boom heard: we do not see anything indicating large fire/smoke on radar or satellite; nothing on USGS indicating an earthquake'

    Abergavenny, May 11

    Cause: Unknown

Residents in Abergavenny, Wales, were also shocked after they heard a series of booms on May 11.

James Spann, AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist tweeted that no explanation had been provided by USGS, NOAA or EMA

James Spann, AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist tweeted that no explanation had been provided by USGS, NOAA or EMA

Speaking to the Abergavenny Chronicle, one resident said: 'It nearly gave me a heart attack it was that loud. At first I thought it was shotgun blast or a firework, but it was way too loud for that. It sounded more like a tank going off.

'My husband said it was probably mini meteors colliding with the earth, but have you ever heard such nonsense?'

Again, the source of the Welsh booms have remained unsolved.

But other booms this year have had explanations behind them.

Other booms have been known to be caused by secret military missions. On May 7, a boom rattled Central Florida, caused by a military mission ending at the Kennedy Space Centre (stock image)

    Lapland, November 17

    Cause: Falling meteor

On November 17, a boom in Lapland was caused by a fireball from a falling meteor.

Footage showed a bright light in the sky over Inari in Finland - but the flash was so intense it was also seen in Russia's Kola Peninsula and in northern Norway.

Stargazers reported seeing the sky 'light up like day' for a few seconds alongside a loud noise as the space rock plummeted towards Earth.

    Eyre Peninsula, October 27

    Cause: Falling meteor

On October 27, another boom was heard over Eyre Peninsula in Australia, as a bright blue meteor shot across the sky.

Stargazers reported seeing the sky 'light up like day' for a few seconds

The loud bangs weren't caused by the fireball hitting Earth, and instead were caused by the change in pressure as the meteor soared through the air.

Speaking to News.com.au, Renee Sayers, a spokeswoman from the Desert Fireball Network, explained: 'The shock wasn't from it hitting the ground; It is like a sonic boom shock, a pressure shock.'

    Central Florida, May 7

    Cause: Supersonic flight testing

Other booms have been known to be caused by secret military missions.

On May 7, a boom rattled Central Florida, caused by a military mission ending at the Kennedy Space Centre.

The US Air Force tweeted: 'The Air Force #X37B #OTV4 has returned from orbit and landed safely at @NASAKennedy.

Can YOU work out what the sound coming from the sky is?

Mysterious Creatures and Bizarre Dash Cam Footage

    Brent Swancer

It is a dark night and the landscape leaps out of the pitch blackness into the beams of the car’s headlights, everything else just an indistinct blur of greys and half-glimpsed shapes, perhaps frosted by moonlight, perhaps not. The trees crowd around the road in the passing light as well, seeming to reach their flickering tendrils and fingers outwards overhead, and there is a sense that anything could be crouched or lurking out in the gloom out there beyond this illuminated patch. Then up ahead something lurches, scurries, or skitters out of the murk, something the likes of which you have never seen disgorged from the forest into your lights and possibly your nightmares. As your mind struggles to make sense of what you have just seen and comprehend it, the thing is gone just as suddenly as it appeared, swallowed back up by the night. What was it? Where did it go? You don’t know, and there was no way for you to have possibly taken a picture.

Such reports are commonplace in cryptozoology, sightings made by people driving along at night minding their own business are numerous to the point that it is almost cliché. There was a time when such chance encounters with strange mystery creatures along the remote roadways of our world would have been nothing more than a scary yarn, with nothing to show for it, and confined to our imaginations, yet in more modern times the increasing use of dashboard mounted cameras in vehicles of all kinds has brought some of these strange, passing sightings into the light and captured them on video for all to see. No longer are such reports the realm of mere pure speculation, doubt, and wonder.

Perhaps one of the more well-known such pieces of mysterious footage was captured in 2009 in Lumpkin County, Georgia, in the United States. In the footage a Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office deputy is driving along a lonely road in the Frogtown area at night bantering back and forth with a local named Mary Scott, who was along for the ride as a part of a Citizens Law Enforcement Academy program. As the two make their way through a dark landscape illuminated only by the vehicle’s headlights something runs across the road in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment. It is hard to see in the unenhanced version of the footage, and can take several viewings to catch, but it is something large and dark in color, seemingly bipedal, and very fleet of foot, and it is odd enough to elicit a shout of surprise from the deputy and genuine amazement from Scott, who also saw it. The two then turn the car around to go back and look for whatever it was, and Scott would later say of the odd encounter:

We were going about 55 mph on a curvy road. It was really late-after midnight, I think. We hadn’t passed any other cars, and this thing came out of nowhere. The officer hit the brakes and we both jumped out. We looked on both sides of the road but didn’t see anything, and we looked at each other kind-of like, ‘You saw that, didn’t you? I saw that.’

The officer can be seen in the footage getting out of the car and shining his flashlight around into the wilderness, but they are unable to figure out where the thing went or just what exactly it is they had just seen. The two can be heard speculating that it might just be some teenagers messing around, but they don’t seem to really believe that, and they continue to express bewilderment. They would later take a look at the dash cam footage they had captured and that was when things got decidedly more mysterious. The bizarre figure indeed seems to run on two legs, is quite fast, and does not appear to be of human proportions, although it is only visible for a fraction of a second. Upon seeing the strange footage Scott became convinced that they had witnessed something truly out of the ordinary, saying of the review of the footage “We were both just shocked. It was really tall, and it really looked like the pictures you’ve seen of Bigfoot.” Bigfoot or not, the reactions of the two witnesses certainly seem genuine and they seem to be convinced that they saw something weird.

When the footage was uncovered and posted on the Internet it immediately went viral, and there was intense speculation on what it could be. Was it a misidentified known animal, Bigfoot, a hoax? Debate and discussion swarmed about the footage, and all manner of cryptozoologists, paranormal investigators, and curiosity seekers came pouring into the area, to the point that Sheriff Stacy Jarrard decided to launch his own investigation into the strange sighting. Jarrard claims that he went interviewing residents of the area looking for any helpful testimony and apparently found it in two students at North Georgia College & State University, who he claims acted very nervous in his presence and allegedly eventually admitted that one of them had dressed up in a gorilla suit and prowled about as a prank on the night in question. It seemed like case closed, or was it?

Skeptics of these claims say that no hoaxers have officially stepped forward to publically claim responsibility for such a prank, and the picture that Jarrard said he took of the boys with the actual gorilla suit has yet to materialize, with Jarrard supposedly refusing all requests to release the elusive photo. It has also been pointed out that the area was very remote and that no one lived in the immediate vicinity, making it odd that the boys would be out there trouncing about in their suit on the off chance that someone would actually happen by. It also seems rather ill-advised to do so in the first place, as in this day and age and with armed people running around and hunters about it seems like wandering around the forest in a gorilla suit is just asking for trouble. I can see using a suit to make one’s own fake video, but the deputy was seemingly not in on this, and walking around pranking unknown people with a gorilla suit in Bigfoot country being the death wish it is, it seems foolish at best. Does anyone really do this?

Adding to the whole odd affair, a 2011 Animal Planetdocumentary group also investigated and confirmed that no teenagers had lived anywhere near the area at the time, making it strange that they should be there, and interestingly when other sheriff’s department personnel were interviewed none of them had any knowledge of Jarrard’s supposed investigation. It seems the only source we have for any of Jarrard’s “investigation” is Jarrard himself, which is a bit suspicious and has led to the idea that he is the one pulling a fast one, possibly to keep people from coming in to snoop about. A BFRO (Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization) statement on the matter reads:

None of the other sheriffs had heard about this story that Jarrard told to a reporter. It seems he came up with the story to quell any fear that local people might have about a monster in the woods, and to prevent hunters from going to look for one.

As far as anyone knows, the two boys might not even exist, and if they do the only one they have admitted a hoax to is Jarrard himself. There has also been quite a bit of analysis done on the video clip by those who claim that the creature seen in the footage seems to be moving much faster and more fluidly than what would typically be expected of a teenager in a gorilla suit, with one estimate saying the thing appears to move at about 10 meters (40 feet) in 1.4 seconds. However, obviously this is hard to determine because whatever it is can only very briefly be seen, and even with enhancements made to the footage it is indistinct, blurry and undeniably hard to make out. It is certainly dark, probably bipedal, and man-sized or larger, but it is difficult to glean much else from the video, meaning that the footage will remain inconclusive, with those watching it divided as to what exactly it shows. You can see the dash cam footage here, with enhancements at the end.

A very similar piece of weird dashboard camera footage that has made the rounds emerged in 2016, and comes to us from Russia’s icy Kazhakstan border, in an area between the Volga River and the Ural Mountains called the Republic of Bashkortostan. The video features two men driving at night along a snowy road in what appears to be a rather isolated and remote area, and they are chatting away in Russian about, well I’m not exactly sure as I cannot speak Russian but it seems like just friendly banter. Around 45 seconds into the video they are noticeably shocked when a large figure lumbers across the road ahead right into the beams of the car’s headlights.

The two startled men chatter away in the universal language of befuddled shouts of amazement and fear, and frantically stop the car and reverse to see if they can figure out what the strange creature was, but whatever it is they saw is gone by then. The witnesses claim that the area they were in is very remote, the weather had been inhospitable and frigid at the time, and that it would be unlikely that someone would have been out there pulling pranks on such a night. They have also dismissed the idea that they may have seen a bear or some wild animal, with driver Vadim Gilmanov stating:

I mean it could have been someone’s cruel prank. But on the other hand, who else could dash out so quickly in the middle of the night? In the middle of nowhere.

As with the Lumpkin footage the creature, hoaxer, or whatever it is, is visible only very briefly, and is not clearly defined. It could be practically anything, but the clip is oddly intriguing nonetheless. You can see it here. Staying with the bizarre humanoid theme we come to what is perhaps one of the most talked about pieces of footage in recent days, this time not from a car’s dash cam but from a helmet cam worn by a biker in Indonesia in 2017.

The footage comes from the helmet camera of one of a group of off-road motocross bikers tearing along a dirt road surrounded thick jungle and high grass near Banda Aceh, north of Sumatra Island. At one point one of the riders loses control of his bike and falls, and it soon becomes obvious why, as it appears that a peculiar figure has scurried out of the wilderness onto the road to startle the rider into crashing his bike. The rest of the bikers slow down to see that the unidentified creature is short, no more than 4 or 5 feet tall, bald, and half naked, holding some sort of pole or spear, and looks to be a humanoid of some kind, but before anyone can get a good look it sprints off at a surprising speed.

A still from the strange footage showing the humanoid

The group immediately gives chase on their motorcycles but the humanoid runs along the road very quickly and then loses them by veering off into the high grassland, prompting the pursuers to stop their bikes and look for it on foot but all they can find is the strange pole it had been carrying discarded upon the ground. The creature itself is nowhere to be seen despite all frantic attempts to locate it by the puzzled witnesses. The strange footage set the Internet on fire when it was first released, baffling all those who saw it. What was this diminutive little humanoid and where did it come from? No one really knows, but there have been theories. One is that this could be actual footage of an Indonesian cryptid hairy hominid called the Orang Pendek, which is reported from Sumatra and is also claimed to be only around 3 to 5 feet tall, but the lack of any apparent body hair at all on the subject of the footage makes it look more like a human than a hairy ape man of any sort.

Considering its similarities to a human being and its small stature, there has also been the idea that this could be a member of a previously thought to be a lost tribe of mysterious pygmies called the Mante, who are only known through two that were supposedly captured in the 17th century to be presented to the Sultan. There are other tribes present in the region as well, although none that really resemble what was seen in the footage. Of course there has also been the idea that this was all a hoax, but in the end despite millions of views and constant discussion, debate, and analysis of the footage it remains a total mystery. You can see it here.

    The Orang Pendek

Whatever it was or wherever it went, I’m sure it wanted its stick back. Speaking of that stick, one thing I wonder about with this case is what happened to it? It seems to me that this is a major piece of evidence that was actually retrieved and could hold profound clues as to what or who we see in the footage. If the design and any markings on the stick were consistent with other tribes of the area, then that would pretty much settle everything, and if it is a new kind of pygmy or hominid then this artifact could offer all sorts of interesting insights, yet I cannot find any information at all as to what has become of it or if it was ever seriously studied. So where did the stick go? Did the bikers keep it? Did they just throw it away? It seems to be just as big a mystery as the little humanoid itself.

Adding to all of the dash cam videos of purported hairy humanoids is one that is purported to show a mysterious canid creature of some sort roaming about in South Texas. In 2008, Texas Sheriff deputy Brandon Riedel was out in his patrol car training a new deputy in DeWitt County in a rural area near the city of Cuero when they came across a bizarre creature trotting along the side of the road near a fence line. The mysterious animal looks to be a canine of some sort, and has short front legs with longer back legs, a hairless body, a long, thin snout, and a skinny, rat-like tail. Reidel would say of the bizarre sighting:

I’ve been patrolling these back roads for a long time and I never run across anything like this. We were out checking fence lines and we came around the corner and we saw this running down the road. You need to record something like this because it’s not every day you find something that looks like this running around out in the middle of the county. It just doesn’t look like your average coyote or dog or anything.

A still from the Cuero Chupacabras dash cam video

The sighting and the footage generated a huge amount of interest at the time, particularly since the area where it was taken was going through a spate of sightings of strange, hairless dog-like creatures roaming the region that had gained the nickname “The Cuero Chupacabras,” which were said to sometimes kill pets or livestock and frighten people at night. There has been a lot of speculation as to what the creature in the dashcam footage and the Cureo Chupacabras could be, including that they are just coyotes or dogs with some skin condition such as mange, which can cause the hair to fall out to dramatically alter their appearance, or that they are hybrids of coyotes, wolves, and dogs or even aliens or really Chupacabras. Whatever the thing is in this footage, it is certainly creepy and a bit unsettling as well in a way. You can see it featured in a news report here.

It seems that as more and more people use cameras and the technology becomes more readily available we can expect more of such pieces of mysterious footage. After all there are fewer and fewer excuses for people to use the old excuse of “if only I’d had a camera.” Almost everything we witness today can now be captured in photos and on videos, and there are fewer ways for these mysteries to escape being seen and analyzed by the masses. There are few shadows to hide in anymore. Vehicles are not much different, as more and more utilize dash cams to catch everything that happens on the road. This might not be the best way to capture video evidence of strange creatures, since the very nature of these circumstances makes the sightings fleeting at best, and it is perhaps no surprise that by the time the vehicle turns around to get a better look the creature is long gone, yet it certainly does add a tool to the photographic chronicles of the world of the mysterious and will no doubt keep us wondering.

Waking up in the middle of the night to find your body frozen and pinned down by an invisible weight is the stuff that ghost stories are made of. Sure enough, a range of cultures have folded sleep paralysis into their horror lore — Americans did so recently in the 2016 horror film Dead Awake — suggesting that this recurring nightmare isn’t specific to any one time or place. Scientists studying the terrifying phenomenon think that it’s actually a neurologically driven process — rather, one that goes awry, suggesting there’s no escaping it unless we intervene directly in our heads.

Until science illuminated the origin of this disturbing nightmare, humans assumed it had a supernatural source. In places as varied as Scandinavia, Newfoundland, Korea, the American South, and Turkey, folklore blames the experience on some kind of evil spirit, witch, or creature that sits on a person’s chest or holds them down while they sleep. Now we know that what people have blamed on the Night Hag for so many centuries is actually the result of the sleep cycle going wrong (sorry, Night Hag).

You probably don’t realize it, but you’re actually physically paralyzed while you sleep for a big chunk of the night, which scientists in the Journal of Neuroscienceblamed on the tandem work of the neurotransmitters GABA and glycine in 2011. This state is known as “muscle atonia,” and it only happens during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep — the deepest part of the sleep cycle that produces the most vivid dreams. It’s thought that we evolved this temporary paralysis because otherwise we might act out our dreams more than we already do, which could be very dangerous. During REM sleep, which happens in periods lasting 90 to 120 minutes, your breathing also becomes faster and highly irregular. It’s not a great part of the sleep cycle to interrupt.

    sleep paralysis

John Henry Fuseli's 'The Nightmare' depicts the night hag on a sleeping woman's chest.

Unfortunately, poor sleep habits, exhaustion, shift work, and jet lag can shake you awake during REM sleep, according to researchers at the Anomalistic PsychologyResearch Unit, Goldsmiths, at the University of London. When you’re in the groggy, half-awake state — quickly waking up from REM sleep is notoriously difficult — breathing feels laborious because it’s been happening at an irregular pace, and you’re keenly aware that you can’t move. As panic sets in, it only exacerbates the feeling that you can’t breathe.

To make matters worse, studies have shown that hallucinations often accompany the physical terror. In 2011 in the journal Sleep Medicine Reviews, researchers combed through 35 studies on sleep paralysis from the past 50 years and grouped the hallucinations into three horrific types: “The presence of an intruder, pressure on the chest sometimes accompanied by physical and/or sexual assault experiences and levitation or out-of-body experiences.” Researchers think these hallucinations are a remnant of the dream state, though it’s not clear why these three types are the most common.

Luckily, the sensation passes as you ease out of the dream state, and it’s not thought to cause any long-term harm, at least physically. Psychologically, though, sleep paralysis can mess with your head long after you get out of bed. In 2013, a study in Clinical Psychological Science looked at the types of distress people experienced after having an episode and found that that the effects include sensing unseen presences, feeling like death is imminent, having a heightened fear of threat or assault, and generally ruminating on the episode, though the type of distress that ensues depends on the details of the experience. People who had particularly sense-based experiences — like straight-up seeing and feeling a demon crouched on your chest — tended to have more physical distress later. The effects are bad enough that the researchers say sleep paralysis could “make a significant contribution to the billions of dollars, worldwide, in costs associated with accidents, illnesses, and lost productivity associated with sleep disturbances.

Even if you’re one of the 92 percent of the general population that doesn’t experience sleep paralysis, you’ll never fully escape their influence. The word “nightmare” was actually first coined to describe sleep paralysis, folding in the Old English word mare — which refers to the mythological incubi, demonic sleep-molesters that were more than willing to crush a dreamer’s lungs.

    An Inside Look

If you’ve ever landed in the emergency room with a broken bone, fallen and hit your head, or been pregnant, then you already know how important medical imaging technology can be. If you’ve been diagnosed with appendicitis, a stroke, or any kind of tumor, those scans may have saved your life.

While medical imaging technology has given us the power to “see” inside the body, the tools of tomorrow will be more powerful still. The science behind this technology has evolved by leaps and bounds in the last few decades, but in order to apply those innovations to medical equipment, researchers need support.

If progress in this area has been slow, it hasn’t been for lack of ideas — it’s been a lack of funding. Now, there are signs that this might be changing, and researchers can already envision the implications of giving medical professionals better ways to see in the body. To do so would change more than the future of medicine: It would irrevocably change how we see ourselves.

    Sight Unseen — Today

For centuries, the only way to see inside the body was through exploratory surgery, which has always come with risks — like an infection, hemorrhaging, and so on

Then, in 1895, Wilhelm Roentgen discovered X-rays, giving physicians a tool that could let them “see” the human skeleton without a single incision. And X-rays were only the beginning. Computed tomography (CT) scans take several X-rays and combine them to form a composite image, providing a more detailed internal view of organs, tissues, and bone. Positron-emission tomography (PET) scans identify changes at the cellular level: After a patient ingests a radioactive tracer, the scan tracks it as it moves through the body. This can be helpful not just for diagnosing a disease, but monitoring one that may progress, like metastatic cancer.

While these scans are essential to the practice of medicine, they aren’t without risk — even a simple X-ray exposes patients to a small dose of ionizing radiation, which can build up and pose health risks over time. So medical professionals do their best to use the scans sparingly.

In some cases, medical professionals can use other imaging techniques that don’t require any radiation at all. Ultrasounds, for example, use high-frequency sound waves to produce images of organs within the cavities of the body. They’re useful to help doctors diagnose conditions like ovarian cysts and gallstones. Inserting a catheter or gastrostomy tube becomes easier when the technician can guide them in via ultrasound. Of course, ultrasounds are most often associated with pregnancy, as they are used to construct real-time images of the fetus.

The downside, however, is that the images that ultrasounds produce aren’t particularly high-quality. The lack of detail means that, while an ultrasound might be able to detect a structure on or near the ovary, differentiating between a malignant tumor and a simple cyst usually requires imaging at a higher resolution or even a biopsy. The quality of the ultrasound image also varies depending on the skill of the sonographer, which could make the images less reliable, which could be a life-threatening issue.

While collectively these techniques have informed how doctors treat patients, there’s one technique that stands out above the rest: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The MRI can provide a glimpse at the tissues and organs of the entire body, and it’s one of the best ways to take images of the brain.

First developed in the 1970s, MRIs use a combination of radio waves and magnetic fields to render images of our internal organs, soft tissues, bones, ligaments, and cartilage. The human body is full of proton-containing water molecules which will align when exposed to a magnetic field. They flip-flop at different rates depending on what tissues of the body they happen to be in. That’s how the MRI generates an image in which organs are (more or less) distinct from one another.

While MRIs are useful for finding abnormalities in blood flow within the brain, a close relative, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), can provide insights into the activity of cells in the brain.

And that, we suspect, is where many of the unsolved mysteries of the human body begin.

    Much More to See

Research into medical imaging technology receives less attention than you might expect, even though patients benefit greatly (and very often their lives depend upon) this research. Less than two percent of grants from the National Institutes of Health are awarded to academic radiology departments, Richard Ehman, a diagnostic radiologist and director of the Mayo Clinic Advanced Medical Imaging Technology lab, told Futurism.

As it stands today, modern medical imaging methods are extremely useful for clinicians, so rather than devising new techniques, most researchers’ energies have been dedicated to refining existing techniques. In an interview with Nature, Roderic Pettigrew, the director of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging said that today’s MRI machines are so specific that they can “track the diffusion of water molecules in the brain with such precision that you can compute their trajectories along fibre pathways,” giving physicians more information to better diagnose, monitor, and treat a number of neurological conditions.

The most cutting-edge MRI machines are found in research facilities, but that’s not what you’d find at your local hospital. As healthcare systems struggle under pressure to cut costs without compromising the quality of patient care, entire radiology departments languish and lag. Replacing an MRI machine is pricey, so it’s easy to understand why hospitals are using older models. Some US hospitals still use film.

“Most physicians would have a hard time imagining how they would take care of patients without these tools,” Ehman, of Mayo, said.  While it’s unlikely that any Western medical practitioners lack the capability to take basic images of the body, complacency and a lack of research attention to new imaging techniques have hampered innovation. Stagnation is preventing us from seeing more.

And there is so much more to see.

All the Better to See You With

Over the past 30 years, the design of MRIs has evolved to be faster, quieter, and more powerful — in large part because computer processors have gotten faster. Their evolution is far from over, and a team at the University of California Berkeley has set out to prove it. The team, composed of physicists and engineers, was recently awarded a $13.43 million BRAIN Initiative from the National Institutes of Health to develop the next generation of fMRI, dubbed the NexGen 7T, by 2019.

A MRI machine’s strength is measured in Teslas (T), which indicates the power of a magnetic field. When the magnetic field of our body (the tissues of which contain positively-charged water molecules) interacts with the magnetic field of the MRI, the tissue gives off a signal. The higher the power of the external magnet, the higher the intensity of that signal — and in turn, the higher the resolution of the images the MRI produces. Today, the world’s strongest MRI machines (which are generally isolated in research facilities and academic medical centers) are somewhere between 7T and 10T. Those that are most routinely used for patient care are much less powerful, clocking in at either 1.5T or 3T. Machines of that resolution are decently fast and accurate, good enough for most routine diagnoses: at 3T, an MRI can detect very small lesions in the brains of patients with multiple sclerosis, which a less powerful machine could miss.

But what if MRIs could allow us to go deeper, to see more — and to do so with breathtaking clarity? What could we glean about the progression of a neurodegenerative disease like multiple sclerosis (MS) if we could see nerves lose their protective myelin in real-time? If we could see the structures of the brain in greater detail, what could we learn about depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, or autism? If we could clearly see every nook and cranny, down to the axons and neurons, could observe the brains’ many processes as they happened, could we finally solve what some philosophers have called the “hard problem of consciousness?

To inch us closer to doing so, researchers at UC Berkeley will need to achieve “a total redesign of nearly all of the [MRI] scanner components, not just an incremental change,” team lead David Feinberg said in the press release announcing the grant.

Another pair of researchers from UC Berkeley recently devised a way to make MRIs more safe and effective for children — a longstanding problem in the field. A physicist, electrical engineer, and a radiologist teamed up to create 3D-printed, flexible coils that fit onto garments. The resulting images were also remarkably crisp, which would benefit adults, too. Now the team is working with GE to further develop its design, possibly making up part of the next generation of MRI coils.

The applications for advanced imaging techniques go beyond our current uses. As Ehman noted, there are a number of measurements clinicians need to assess through the course of diagnosing and treating their patients. One example is that of measuring pressure within the human body. Getting these readings can require invasive, uncomfortable procedures, such as a spinal tap, that come with their own risks. As medical imaging once cut down the need for surgery, perhaps one day it could eliminate the need for needles, gauges, cuffs, and catheters.

Better imaging could also help us see elements of our own biology we never even knew existed. Invariably, more answers lead to more questions. And that will likely inform the path of medical research for decades to come.

Other innovations in medical imaging may be a bit more dazzling to the average patient. At Massachusetts General Hospital, physicist Matthew Rosen is leading research into the clinical tools that are often paired with MRI machines, such as contrast dyes. His team is developing synthetic, biocompatible nanodiamonds that could replace contrast agents that are traditionally metal-based.

“Nanodiamonds have the potential to revolutionize the field of molecular imaging,” Rosen said in a press release, adding that their tiny size could enable radiologists to track any process at the cellular and subcellular level.

The team has only conducted lab-based tests and haven’t yet figured out how to best introduce the nanodiamonds into the human body (possible routes, as with any tracer, would include ingestion, infusion, or injection), according to a study Rosen and his team published in Nature Communications in March. There’s a long way to go before patients will have the option of taking a shot of medical-grade bling.

Technological progress made over the past century has transformed how we work, how we socialize, and how we date. The same goes for medicine, and for medical imaging in particular. That progress seems poised to continue — advanced computing, artificial intelligence, automation, and deep learning will improve medical technologies involved in everything from scans to surgery.

“I think that, in the future, we may look back at this time and it will seem that we were making very limited use of our best imaging technologies,” Ehman said (there are many complex reasons for this, he noted, including limited federal funding and the challenges of implementing new healthcare technologies). But Ehman remains hopeful that, despite these challenges, the future of medical imaging technology will transform medicine once again. Perhaps we can’t count on a renaissance, but having crystal clear vision will no doubt supply a few answers — and we should stay eager to be dazzled by them.

Major earthquakes predicted for 2018 due to changes in the Earth’s rotation

According to scientists, the number of severe Earthquakes is likely to rise exponentially in 2018, due to a slowing down of Earth’s rotation. Minimal variations in Earth’s rotation speed could trigger intense seismic activity in 2018, especially in densely populated tropical regions, warn experts.

Although such variations in the rotation of our planet are small, changing the length of the day by one millisecond, these changes could set off a release of large amounts of underground energy.

The connection between Earth’s rotation and seismic activity is displayed in a study by Roger Bilham of the University of Colorado at Boulder and Rebecca Bendick of the University of Montana at Missoula, presented in October during the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America.

“The relationship between Earth’s rotation and earthquake activity is strong and suggests there is going to be an increase in numbers of violent earthquakes next year,” Bilham told the Observer in an interview.

In the study presented by Bilham andthe two argue that by looking at earthquakes of magnitude 7 and greater that had occurred since 1900. “Major earthquakes have been well recorded for more than a century, and that gives us a good record to study,” explains Bilham.

The two researchers discovered five periods in which there were a significantly greater number of large earthquakes compared to other times.

“During these periods, there were between 25 and 30 intense earthquakes a year,” adds Bilham.

“The rest of the time, the average number was about 15 large earthquakes per year.”

The researchers sought to find correlations between these periods of intense seismic activity and other factors and discovered that when the Earth’s rotation decreased slightly, it was followed by periods of increase in the number of intense earthquakes.

“The rotation of the Earth changes slightly – in a millisecond per day sometimes – and that can be measured very accurately by atomic clocks.”

Bilham and Bendick discovered that there were periods of about five years when the rotation of the Earth was reduced by that amount several times over the last century and a half.

Fundamentally, these time lapses were followed by periods in which the number of intense earthquakes increased.

“It’s simple,” says Bilham. “The Earth is offering us a five-year warning about future earthquakes.”

This link is particularly important because the rotation of the Earth began one of its periodic decreases more than four years ago.

“The inference is clear,” concludes the researcher.

“Next year we should see a significant increase in the number of severe earthquakes. We have had it easy this year. So far, we have only had about six severe earthquakes. We could easily have 20 per year starting in 2018.”

It is not clear exactly why the decreases in the length of the day should be related to earthquakes, although scientists suspect that small changes in the behavior of the Earth’s core could be causing both effects.

Regrettably, it is difficult to predict where these additional earthquakes will occur, although Bilham said they discovered that most of the intense earthquakes responding to changes in day length seemed to occur near the equator.

Around one billion people live in the tropical regions of the Earth.

    NASA GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER

How do you observe the invisible currents of the atmosphere? By studying the swirling, billowing loads of sand, sea salt and smoke that winds carry. A new simulation created by scientists at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., reveals just how far around the globe such aerosol particles can fly on the wind.

The complex new simulation , powered by supercomputers, uses advanced physics and a state-of-the-art climate algorithm known as FV3 to represent in high resolution the physical interactions of aerosols with storms or other weather patterns on a global scale (SN Online: 9/21/17). Using data collected from NASA’s Earth-observing satellites, the simulation tracked how air currents swept aerosols around the planet from August 1, 2017, through November 1, 2017.

In the animation, sea salt (in blue) snagged by winds sweeping across the ocean’s surface becomes entrained in hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose and Maria, revealing their deadly paths. Wisps of smoke (in gray) from fires in the U.S. Pacific Northwest drift toward the eastern United States, while Saharan dust (in brown) billows westward across the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. And the visualization shows how Hurricane Ophelia formed off the coast of Africa, pulling in both Saharan dust and smoke from Portugal’s wildfires and transporting the particles to Ireland and the United Kingdom.

BLACK PROJECT? Bizarre 'TR-3B triangle UFO' seen tailed by 'three military helicopters'

A STRANGE-LOOKING triangle UFO was followed by US military helicopters, it has astonishingly been claimed.

A witness has reported the bizarre activity taking place over Springfield, Missouri, USA, on Saturday.

In a report to the US-based Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), the unnamed witness described what happened.

They said: "I heard what sounded like low very, very low flying helicopters.

"I looked out my window to my apartment and I then could see one of the helicopters was so low, I could see inside the cockpit.

"There were three helicopters, and the object was to the left side as if the helicopters were guiding or trying to ground this object.

    TR-3B-UFO

    YouTube

A CGI mock-up of a TR-3B, but many people report seeing the strange UFO.

    "They were black military helicopters."

The UFO was described as "a dark triangle craft with one orange light in the centre".

The witness added: "I ran outside to see what they were doing.

"I noticed that they were flying with something and screamed to my nephew and he saw it too.

"I wish I had my phone on me at the time I would have captured video, but it was in my oculus goggles."

There were three helicopters, and the object was to the left side as if the helicopters were guiding or trying to ground this object.

    Witness report

The report did not say what time the alleged incident happened.

However, the witness sketched a drawing of the UFO, and its "escort", which showed one helicopter in front, one behind, and one to the side.

The drawing resembled an alleged top-secret secret spy craft, which some conspiracy theorists claim the US Air Force (USAF) has developed, known as a TR-3B.

TR-3B is alleged by conspiracy theorists to be a secret "black project" spy craft of the US Government that can be flown into space.

The allegations are that these crafts are created at top-secret military bases like Area 51 in Nevada, by reverse engineering alien technology.

Others claim they are actual UFOs flown by aliens visiting Earth.

MUFON is the world's largest organisation dedicated to UFO and alien research, and maintains a database of sightings.

Yesterday it was sent the footage with the witness report.

There have been hundreds of alleged TR-3B and triangle UFO sightings across the US, and it is not the first time one is said to have been seen accompanied by military helicopters.

There is, however, no conclusive proof the TR-3B exists.

Mysterious ISS Footage: Are Space Agencies Hiding Proof of Alien Life? (VIDEO)

When one of the crew at the International Space Station (ISS) captured footage of a mysterious object entering the Earth’s atmosphere, conspiracy theorists quickly concluded that it was footage of a UFO, despite claims by the European Space Agency’s that the object is just a meteor.

Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli captured the clip, which shows a ball of light approaching the Earth's atmosphere, November 5.

Tyler Glockner, who runs the alien hunting YouTube Channel SecureTeam10, is convinced that the strange sighting is further proof the government is covering up the existence of aliens.

In a video uploaded to the SecureTeam10 channel, Glockner says, "I don't think it's a meteorite at all."

"You're seeing the Earth spinning at a high rate of speed and we see this flash of light coming from space. It does look to be moving at 85,000 miles per hour. But when you account how fast the Earth would have actually been moving, had this not been sped up, it would have been moving much, much slower."

In a statement released by the European Space Agency on November 16, researchers at the agency describe the object as a fireball.

"A fireball is basically a very bright meteoroid — a small bit of natural ‘space rock' — entering Earth's atmosphere and burning brighter than the background stars. This particular meteoroid was moving much faster than typical, with an estimated speed of about 85,000 miles per hour," the statement states.

SecureTeam10 is also suspicious about how fast the European Space Agency released a statement regarding the sighting.

"They've never jumped on a story so fast," Glockner said.

"Why are they claiming it to be a meteor if they aren't sure? Why aren't they going to the suspected location where this is meant to be falling, and recover it? Why does it look nothing like a meteor? Why are they only giving us the sped-up time lapse version and pretending it's just normal speed?" Glockner asks.

In his video, the YouTuber also compares the photo to one of a meteor taken during the 2011 Perseid meteor shower.

"If you compare this to what they are calling a meteor in this new footage, at no time does this so-called meteor look like anything that was captured back in 2011 — it just doesn't," Glocker explained.

    UFO, Helicopter, Or Something Else?

According to a batch of files that the U.K.’s National Archive declassified a number of years ago, Dame Rebecca West, MBE, was inadvertently plunged into a very strange puzzle in early 1966. Incredibly, she asserted, some sort of unusual aerial object, had landed in the grounds of her home – Ibstone House. For its part, the files reveal, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) suggested that West had simply misidentified a helicopter seen under poor conditions (which may well have been the case). Whatever the truth of the matter, West’s odd experience became the subject of a fifteen-page file that attracted the attention of the MoD’s Defense Intelligence Staff.

Born in 1892, Rebecca West (the adopted name of Cicily Isabel Fairfield) was the daughter of Charles Fairfield, who was renowned in London society. West took on the name of Rebecca at the age of nineteen after Ibsen’s heroine in Rosmersholm. She trained briefly for the stage in London, before becoming a noted feminist and journalist. As her career blossomed, West wrote for The FreewomanThe Clarion and The New Freewoman, and many of her writings from that time were re-printed as The Young Rebecca in 1932.

Her first novel, The Return of the Soldier, was published in 1918 and was followed by The JudgeThe Strange Necessity, and Harriet June. In 1930 West married Henry Maxwell Andrews, a banker, who was to accompany her on the journey that ultimately led to the publication of her two-volume study of the Yugoslav nation, The Black Lamb and Grey Falcon.

West was present at the Nuremburg trials and her 1949 book, The Meaning of Treason, largely grew out of articles commissioned by The New Yorker. In 1965, only one year before her curious UFO encounter occurred, West’s The Meaning of Treason was updated with added accounts of what were then more recent scandals (including those of John Vassall, a spy in the Admiralty sentenced to eighteen years imprisonment, and Stephen Ward, a player in the Profumo case). But how did Dame Rebecca West become embroiled in the UFO controversy? As the old documentation at the U.K.’s National Archives reveals, it was 2.45 p.m. on 7 January 1966 and West was out walking in the grounds of her home when…

“As I was going down the steep hill to the farm buildings I noticed a man walking on my property at some distance to the right of the path I was following,” she wrote to the MoD. “Presently, he reached a point when the wood stopped and there is a hedge which runs down to the valley along a sharp ridge. There is a gap in the hedge and the man stopped just past this and turned around, facing in the reverse direction, and stood still.”

Expressing concern about “what he was going to do,” West watched in amazement as what she described as “an aerial construction” appeared out of nowhere. “One moment it was not there, the next it was,” Rebecca West explained. “It seemed to come down quite rapidly, on the other side of the hedge from the man, but very close to it.” And what, precisely, was it that Dame Rebecca West saw? Her description was curious, to say the least.

Stressing to the MoD that the object was “strangely shaped,” she stated: “It consisted of something like a metal band, grey-blue in color, flattened at one point so as to seem almost leaf-like, crossed with a sort of herringbone system of metal strips.” She elaborated further: “There was also somehow attached to these an odd object like a bag with an opening that had points, made of yellowish material. As I looked the whole thing collapsed toward the ground.

“I saw it crumpling downwards, but crumpling is not quite the word. The metal band seemed to cut backwards and disappear while the curious bag looked as if someone were squeezing the air out of the lower portion of it, so that all the points stood up, and then fell back. Comparing the height of the object with the height of the man, I should put it as something [between] fifteen and twenty.”

Also playing on West’s mind was the identity of the mystery man. Stressing that his behavior was “very odd,” she continued that “he seemed to be watching the thing come down, and the minute it was down, he turned round and followed the hedge track down to the valley. Once or twice he looked to his left as if he were scrutinizing the valley, and he did not seem to see me. But at the bottom of the track he stopped again and looked all round the slope on which I was standing, and this time he seemed to see me. We stood and looked at each other for quite a long time, and I had an uncomfortable feeling and went home.”

The key question centered on the identity of the strange object. In her letter to the Ministry of Defense, West wrote that a farm laborer had informed her that he had seen a helicopter flying in the vicinity earlier on that same day. West, meanwhile, ventured the possibility that it was “some gadget sent out by the Meteorological Office.” Rebecca West signed off: “I feel most apologetic for burdening you with such an improbable story. But I did not like to report it to the local police, as I think you will agree that an elderly woman who went to the local police with a story of having seen the equivalent of a flying saucer would be adding considerably to the difficulties of her life.”

On arrival at the MoD, West’s letter (and accompanying drawing) was forwarded to a particular office known to have been involved in the collation of UFO data in the 1960s and referred to as s4f (Air). As the records show, however, one L.W. Akhurst of that office then dispatched all of the relevant data to a Flight Lieutenant Mercer of the Defense Intelligence Staff. For his part, Mercer was inclined to accept that, “Dame Rebecca West saw a helicopter, possibly of the Bell 47 or similar type, which in conditions of poor visibility appeared to have some unusual characteristics.”

West was far from convinced by the MoD’s explanation and fired a letter back to Ackhurst. “To have appeared where I saw it a helicopter would have had to fly twenty or thirty yards with its lower half deeply embedded in the earth.” She also maintained that: “There was at this time complete silence,” and that “visibility seemed to me not poor at all, for I spotted several birds at a considerable distance. I do not expect an answer to this letter.”

West concluded: “I reported the incident partly because I feared the object might be a parachute or some such construction which was being used to drop something or somebody for criminal purposes, and partly because the construction I saw or thought I saw puzzled me, as I could not conceive how it could be got into the air, could stay in the air, or be brought down out of the air.”

Akhurst’s response was short and to the point. “No further evidence has become available concerning this particular sighting, so there is nothing further I can add.” The case was closed. For its part, the Ministry of Defense seemed satisfied with the explanation that the object was simply a helicopter – and its staff did indeed make a good case for the craft being a helicopter. However, West’s letters clearly demonstrate that she had dismissed the notion that the object was a helicopter (“I have seen many in my time, and I can’t imagine how I could have seen a helicopter from any angle which would have made it present such an appearance,” she stated). She had also given much consideration to the idea that the object was some form of man-made “gadget.” Yet, she was equally well aware of the fact that her report seemed to fall squarely into the Flying Saucer category too. And there was also the glaring observation on her part that the object had been flying in total silence.

Dame Rebecca West continued to write with vigor almost until the time of her death at the age of ninety in 1983, and her contribution to British literature is more than well recognized. It seems that more than half a century on, however, this particularly curious aspect of her notable life will remain forever unresolved.

Mysterious meteorite footage sparks cover-up claims by UFO-hunter

A CONSPIRACY theorist has dismissed experts’ claims that a meteorite entered Earth’s atmosphere following the release of footage from the International Space Station (ISS).

    By Anders Anglesey

The sped-up clip shows a bright object fall to Earth as the ISS circles the planet.

Space boffins said the plummeting fireball was a meteorite that hurtled towards Earth at a rapid 85mph.

But UFO-hunter, Secure Team 10, raised suspicions about the footage and whether it actually shows meteor.

Boffins believe that tens-of-thousands of space rocks have slammed into Earth

    GETTY

METEOR: Boffins believe that tens-of-thousands of space rocks have slammed into Earth

Comparing the two examples he said: “If you compare this to what they are calling a meteor in this new footage, at no time does this so called meteor look like anything that was captured back in 2011 – it just doesn’t.

“It’s a short, stubby object that looks nothing like the other meteor here. We can see this discharge, the energy coming from the back of it.”

Similar cover-up claims have emerged before.

Last week, incredible footage emerged of a bright ball hovering in the sky near a long, thin cloud.

Suddenly, the ball literally causes the cloud to break up in a clip that has to be seen to be believed.

The first ‘Global’ ‘Flat Earth Conference’ just took place and hundreds of people attended

Hundreds of people attended the First International Flat Earth Conference held in the United States, and hundreds of people gathered there presenting their ideas as to why our planet is ‘FLAT.’

The first ‘Global’ ‘Flat Earth Conference’ just took place, and hundreds of people attended

Hundreds of Americans gathered for the First International Flat Earth Conference in November 2017, in Raleigh, North Carolina in the United States.

The United States is one of the countries with the largest number of supporters of Flat Earth movement, despite the fact that it is also one of the few nations that have been able to send astronauts into space to corroborate the spherical shape of the earth.

    How contradictory, right?

Approximately 400 people are thought to have attended the conference, flying from around the world to take part.  Tickets to attend ranged from $109 up to $249.

The attendees rejected that planet earth has a spherical shape, and assure that “it is the biggest fallacy created by Satan.”

Another one the many who attended the conference said that ‘she checked for herself that the Earth was flat after using a ruler and measuring the horizon.’

The First International Conference of the Flat Earth was composed of several presentations and exhibitions of products related to the theory that the earth is not really a spherical planet.

“It is horizontally infinite and at least 9,000 kilometers deep,” said John Davis, another theorist of this idea.

For his part, James McIntyre, members of the Flat Earth Society, has the idea that “the earth is, more or less, a disk of 24,900 miles in diameter,” and adds that “obviously not perfectly flat, due to geological phenomena such as valleys and mountains.”

McIntyre also said that the photos from space showing the circumference of the earth “are false,” and that “the world’s space agencies are involved in an international conspiracy to deceive the public in pursuit of vast profits.”

In a BBC video interview, one of the attendees said he just came to the conference to meet other like-minded people.

Some of the reasons why the attendees to the conference think the Earth is flat include:

    – The Sun and the Moon move through the sky in a focused way, that is why they illuminate only certain parts of the flat earth.

    – The earth gives the sensation that it is round because it is arranged in such a way that it simulates a group of concentric radii.  Furthermore, the horizon always appears perfectly flat – except in NASA and other space agency images, which are obviously faked (as part of the global conspiracy)

    – When a plane flies, it flies completely horizontally, If the Earth was ’round’ planes would keep flying into space.

-Oh, here’s one of my favorite ones (lol) If our Earth was really spherical, helicopters would be able to hover in place and wait for their destinations to come to them. Savy?

The Flat Earth Conference also included a speech from prominent flat-Earther and YouTuber Mark Sargent who said: “I think we’re almost at the critical mass point. Science is gonna have to address this, plain and simple. They cannot dodge us forever.”

THE TRUE STORY OF THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT

In July of 1943 the US Navy, along with Dr. Franklin Reno conducted a test on the Navy Destroyer, USS Eldridge called the Philadelphia Experiment.

The experiment, based on Albert Einstein's theory of relativity was an attempt to make the ship virtually invisible to any enemy radar and immune to magnetic mines.

IN JULY 1943 A BIZARRE CHAIN OF EVENTS TOOK PLACE...

The ship was set up with two generators, magnetic coils and amplifiers allowing it to create a synchronized electromagnetic field that in theory would divert radio and light waves around the ship making the Navy Destroyer invisible to the enemy. Had the test been successful it would have created the ultimate weapon, in the middle of wartime.

However, the botched experiment turned out to be more catastrophic than anyone could have imagined.

On July 22nd, when the experiment had begun, and the generators were switched on an unexpected and bizarre chain of events took place. Witnesses claim the water surrounding the ship began to bubble and produced a hazy green fog that engulfed the entire ship, within seconds the ship not only disappeared from radar but also from plain sight.

The Eldridge has spotted 600 km away at a Naval base in Norfolk, Virginia for a few short minutes before returning to its original coordinates in Philadelphia. While the test did render the ship invisible to radar, it left the crew with devastating side effects.

BODIES OF THE CREW MEMBERS EMBEDDED INTO THE METAL

Witnesses claim that the experiment left bodies of the crew members embedded into the metal of the railings and decks on the ship, some men caught fire and some simply vanished. The remaining members of the crew were left physically and mentally ill, disoriented and seeming to fade in and out of reality.

After the team of US and German scientists saw the horrific consequences of their experiment, all further research into radar invisibility was canceled. The surviving members of the crew were discharged and labeled mentally unfit for duty, and some even believe the Navy used brainwashing to keep the men quiet about their experience.

US NAVY STILL DENIES THE TOP-SECRET FAILED OPERATION

To this day the US Navy still denies the experiments ever took place and destroyed all records of the Eldridge even being in Philadelphia at the time. However, witnesses and a few surviving crew members stick strongly behind their version of the horrific events.
