SCIENCE FINALLY FOUND PROOF OF THE EXISTENCE OF GOD
Is science discovered God?
Einstein didn’t believe it was possible, but Stephen Hawkins said: ‘It might be the greatest scientific discovery of all time’.
So, what discovery has baffled the greatest scientific minds of the past century, and why has it caused them to rethink the origin of our universe? New and more powerful telescopes have unlocked mysteries about our universe never before revealed, giving us amazing new scientific insight into the origin of life.
HAS SCIENCE DISCOVERED GOD?
Hasn’t science proven we don’t need God to explain the universe?
What is it about this discovery that is so fundamentally different, and why has it stunned the scientific world?
This discovery along with what molecular biologists have learned about the sophisticated coding within DNA have many scientists now admitting that the universe and life itself appeared to be part of a grand design.
“Many scientists, when they admit their views, incline toward the design argument”.
Surprisingly, many scientists who are now talking about God have no religious beliefs whatsoever.
What are these stunning discoveries that have scientists suddenly speaking of God? Well there are three revolutionary discoveries from the fields of astronomy and molecular biology that stand out:
1) the universe had a beginning
2) The universe is just right for life
3) DNA coding reveals intelligence
The statements leading scientists have made about these discoveries may shock you.
THE UNIVERSE HAD A ONE-TIME BEGINNING
Since the dawn of civilization man has gazed in awe at the stars, wondering what they are and how they got there. Although, on a clear night the unaided human eye can see only 6,000 stars, Hubble and other powerful telescopes reveal there are a billion-trillion stars clustered in over 100 billion galaxies. In fact, our sun is like one grain of sand amidst the world’s beaches. But, prior to the 20th century, the majority of scientists believed that our own Milky Way galaxy was the entire universe, and that only about 100 million starts existed.
Most scientists of the past believed that our universe never had a beginning.They believed that mass, space, and energy that compose our entire universe had always existed.But in the early 20th century , astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered that the universe is expanding. Rewinding the process mathematically, he calculated that everything in the universe, matter, energy, space, and even time itself, actually had a beginning.
Shockwaves hit the scientific community. Many scientists including Einstein, reacted negatively. In what Einstein later called “the biggest blunder in my life”, he fudged the equations to avoid the implication that the universe had a beginning. Perhaps the most vocal adversary of the idea that the universe had a beginning was British astronomer Sir Frederick Hoyle, who sarcastically nicknamed the creation event a “big bang”. He stubbornly held to his steady state theory that the universe had always existed. So did Einstein and other scientists until the evidence for the beginning became overwhelming.
Then finally, in 1992, the COBE satellite experiments proved that the universe really did a one-time beginning in an incredible flash of light and energy. Although some scientists called it the moment of creation, most preferred referring to it as the “big bang”. Astronomer Robert Jastow tries to help us imagine how it all began.
“The picture suggest the explosion of a cosmic hydrogen bomb. The instant in which the cosmic bomb exploded marked the birth of universe”.
The conclusion is everything in the universe came from nothing.
Science is unable to tell us what or who cause the universe to begin. But some it believe clearly points to a Creator. Many scientists from which some were agnostics claim that the only explanation for the big bang to happen was by the mighty hand of divine power, God.
Cosmologists, who specialize in the study of universe and its origin, soon realized that a chance cosmic explosion could never bring about life any more than a nuclear bomb would unless it was precisely engineered to do so. And that meant a designer must have planned it. They began using words like, “Creator”, “Super-intellect”, and even “Supreme Being” to describe this designer.
THE UNIVERSE IS FINELY-TUNED FOR LIFE
Physicists calculated that for life to exist, gravity and other laws of physics that govern our universe needed to be intricately tuned just right or our universe couldn’t exist. For instance, did you know that if the expansion rate of the universe has been slightly weaker, gravity would have pulled all matter back into a “big crunch”. Stephen Hawking writes: “If the rate of expansion one second after the big bang had been smaller by even one part in a hundred thousand-million-million, the universe would have re-collapsed before it ever reached its present size”. On the flip side, if the expansion rate had been a mere fraction greater than it was, all galaxies, stars, and planets could never have formed, and we wouldn’t be there.
And for life to exist, the conditions in our solar system and our own planet, also need to be just right. For example we all realize that without atmosphere of oxygen, none of us will be able to breathe. And without oxygen, water couldn’t exist. Without water there would be no rainfall for our crops. Other elements such as calcium, hydrogen, nitrogen, sodium, carbon, and phosphorus are also essential for life. But that alone is not all that is needed for life to exist.
The size, temperature, relative proximity, and chemical makeup of our planet, sun, and moon also need just to be right. And there a dozen of other conditions that just need to be right. Scientist who believed in God may have expected such a fine-tuning, but atheist and agnostics were unable to explain the remarkable “coincidences”.
THE UNIVERSE: ACCIDENT OR MIRACLE?
What are the odds against human life existing by chance from a random explosion in cosmic history? For human life to be possible from a big bang utterly defines the laws of probability.
One astronomer calculate the odds at less than one chance in a trillion-trillion-trillion-trillion-trillion… In other words, it will be far easier for a blind-folded person in one try to discover one specially marked grain of sand out of all the beaches in the world. The odds of one random big bang producing life as we know it would be like one person winning over a thousand consecutive mega-million dollar lotteries after purchasing only a single ticket for each. Not likely? Really quite impossible. So, many scientists concluded: Someone behind the scenes designed and created the universe. But, there are others who still are searching other explanations for the existence of our universe.
DNA: THE LANGUAGE OF LIFE
As recent as 1953, Molecular biologists discovered intricately complex design in the microscopic world of DNA. This tiny molecule has been called the “brains” of each cell in our bodies as well as every other living thing. Yet the more they discover about DNA, the more amazed they are at the brilliance behind it. Scientists who believe that the material world is all the exists, like Richard Dawkins, argue DNA evolved by natural selection without a Creator. Yet even most ardent evolutionists admit that the origin of the DNA’s intricate complexity is unexplainable. DNA’s intricate complexity caused its co-discover, Francis Crick, to believe that it could never have originated on earth naturally. He believed that life is too complex to have originate on earth , and must have come from outer space. The coding behind DNA reveals such intelligence that it staggers the imagination. A mere pinhead volume of DNA contains information equivalent to a stack of paperback books that would encircle the world 5,000 times. And DNA operates like language with its own extremely complex software code.
In the early 21st century, noted atheist, Antony Flew’s life-long unbelief came to an abrupt and even studied the remarkable intelligence behind DNA. Flew explained what change his position:
“What I think the DNA material has done is to show that intelligence must have been involved in getting these extraordinary diverse elements together. The enormous complexity by which the results were achieved look to me like the work of intelligence… It now seems to me that the finding of more than fifty years of DNA research have provided materials for a new and enormously powerful argument to design”.
THE LIFE AND THE UNIVERSE HAVE THE FINGERPRINTS OF A CREATOR
Are scientists now convinced that a Creator has left his “fingerprints” on the universe? Although many scientists are still bent on squeezing God out of the universe, most recognize the religious implications of these new discoveries.
SO, WHAT IF, AFTER ALL THERE IS A CREATOR?
If there is a super-intelligent Creator, the question arises, what is he like? Is he just some “Cosmic Force” like in Star Wars, or is he a personal being like us? Since we are personal and relational beings, wouldn’t the one who created us also be personal and relational?
Many scientists such as Arthur L. Schawlow, Professor at Stanford University, and Nobel Prize winner in Physics, believes that these new discoveries prove compelling evidence for a personal God. He writes: “It seems to me that when confronted with the marvels of life and the universe, one must ask why and not just how. The only possible answers are religious… I find a need for God in the universe and in my own life”.
If God is personal and since He has given us the ability to communicate, wouldn’t we expect him to communicate with us and let us know why we are here? As we seen, science is unable to answer questions about God and the purpose of life. However, since the Bible was right about creation from nothing, might it also be trustworthy regarding God, life and purpose?
THE MAN WHO CHANGED THE WORLD
Two thousand years ago, a man set foot on our planet who claimed to have the answer to life. Although his life on earth was brief, his impact changed the world, and is still felt today. His name is Jesus Christ.
The eyewitnesses to Jesus Christ tell us that he continually demonstrated creative power over nature’s laws. They tell us he was wise, humble, and compassionate. They also tell us that Jesus Christ is the one who flung the stars into space, fine-tuned our universe, and created DNA.
Could he be the one of whom Einstein unknowing referred to us as “super-intelligence” behind the universe? Has the mystery of who is responsible for creating the universe and the intelligence behind DNA have been revealed in the New Testament?
Jesus spoke with authority about God’s love for us and the reason he created us. He said that he has a plan for our life, and that plan centers on a relationship with him. But for that relationship to be possible, Jesus had to die on the cross for our sins. And it was necessary for him to raise from the dead, so that we could too have a life after death. As the Creator, Jesus certainly would have power over life and death. Those closest to him claim that they saw him alive after he died and was buried for three days. If they were wrong, then Christianity has been founded upon a lie. But, if they were right, such a miracle, would substantiate all Jesus said about God, himself, and us.

“The upwelling we detected is like a hot air balloon, and we infer that something is rising up through the deeper part of our planet under New England.”
That’s right. Seismologists report that a volcano is building up under the northeastern United States — Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Vadim Levin, a geophysicist and professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences of Rutgers University, led the research and co-authored the paper published this week in the journal Geology. He and his team used data collected by the EarthScope program of the National Science Foundation (NSF) which has deployed thousands of seismic, GPS and other geophysical instruments across North America to monitor the forces behind volcanoes and earthquakes. That data shows that the area, particularly under central Vermont and western New Hampshire, has a force to be reckoned with.
“It is not Yellowstone (National Park)-like, but it’s a distant relative in the sense that something relatively small – no more than a couple hundred miles across – is happening.”
Enjoy it while you can
Gee, Professor Levin. If you don’t want us to worry, you shouldn’t be bringing up Yellowstone and its current upsurge in earthquakes. That kind of comparison can give one an upwelling in the throat.
The Rutgers press release says the team focused on New England because previous measurements showed its right above an area of comparative warming (hundreds of degrees Celsius warmer than neighboring areas) in the upper mantle. What were they looking for now-
“We’re interested in what happens at the interface between tectonic plates – thick, solid parts that cover our planet – and material in the upper mantle beneath the plates. We want to see how North America is gliding over the deeper parts of our planet. It is a very large and relatively stable region, but we found an irregular pattern with rather abrupt changes in it.”
“An irregular pattern with rather abrupt changes in it.” That’s not something you want to hear from your family doctor about a mole … or from your friendly neighborhood volcano researcher. Not only that, Levin points out that the last intense geologic activity in this area was 200 million years ago, so it’s overdue for a return. He says the data the team collected points to “a much more dynamic regime underneath this old, geologically quiet area.”

That’s a relief … except this forecast came from the same guy who says he found that “irregular pattern with rather abrupt changes in it.” Like the doc said about your mole, better keep an eye on it anyway.
WASHINGTON — The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season was one for the books — deadly, destructive and the costliest on record. And for the nation’s meteorologists, it could not have ended soon enough.
“Be gone with you,” Taylor Trogdon, a senior scientist at the National Hurricane Center, posted on Twitter early Thursday.
Thursday marks the final day of the Atlantic season, which officially runs from June 1 to Nov. 30. The final tally: 17 named tropical cyclones, including 10 hurricanes and six major hurricanes that reached Category 3 or stronger.
In a report published Thursday, Dr. Phil Klotzbach, a meteorologist at Colorado State University, described the season as “extraordinarily active.”
“It’s going down as a top ten year for most tropical cyclone parameters that we measure in real-time,” Klotzback wrote in an email to HuffPost.
Two weeks later, Irma tore through the Caribbean, shattering several records before taking aim at Florida. The Category 5 storm went down as the strongest hurricane ever in the Atlantic Ocean (not including the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Mexico) and the first anywhere on Earth to maintain top winds of 185 miles per hour for 37 straight hours. It also ranked among the strongest tropical cyclones measured at landfall anywhere around the globe, as meteorologist Eric Holthaus noted on Twitter.
And before the Caribbean had time to recover from Irma, Maria devastated Puerto Ricoand other Caribbean islands, leaving behind “apocalyptic” conditions, local officials said. The death toll in Puerto Rico, now at 58, continues to rise. And more than two months after the disaster, roughly half of the island remains without electricity.
The 2017 season served as an important reminder of just how devastating hurricanes can be, Marshall Shepherd, director of the atmospheric sciences program at the University of Georgia and a former president of the American Meteorological Society, told HuffPost on Thursday. Prior to Harvey, the country went nearly 12 years without a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) making landfall — the longest period on U.S. record.
“I think we had been in a drought for so long that people really just forgot how destructive, life-altering and society-altering they can be,” Shepherd said. “And to have essentially three major hurricanes just devastate very populated areas, that to me in itself is memorable.”
Shepherd added that the 2017 season carried the mark of climate change, with storms packing an extra punch, and gave America perhaps its first glimpse of what a future of extreme weather events and climate refugees could look like.
“We have to start thinking about, planning our cities and our infrastructure, with extreme weather in mind,” he said.
With damages exceeding more than $200 billion, this season has been pegged as the most destructive hurricane season in U.S. history, according to Weather Underground, which cited estimates from disaster research scientists. That figure includes loses of $114 billion from Hurricane Harvey, $60 billion from Hurricane Irma and $32 billion from Hurricane Maria.
Although 2017 was active, 2005 still holds the record for most named storms (28), named storm days (126.25), number of hurricanes (15) and number of major hurricanes (7), according to Klotzbach’s report.

Good riddance to one of the most destructive hurricane seasons on record. A debt of gratitude to all the hard-working first responders, emergency managers, disaster relief groups, @NWS@NWSNHC meteorologists, and survivors working to rebuild their communities.
On October 17, 2017, NASA’s Suomi NPP satellite captured this image of an unusual cloud pattern off the coast of southern Australia.
According to Paul Lainio, a meteorologist at Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology, the pattern was caused by a phenomenon in the atmosphere called gravity waves. Similar to a boat’s wake, which forms as water is pushed upward by the boat and pulled downward again by gravity, these clouds are formed by the rise and fall of air columns. As the wave moves along the cloud band, the wave peaks appear cloudy and the troughs appear cloud-free. In this case, the gravity waves developed as a result of instability on the flank of a strong jet stream moving ahead of the cold front. Lainio said:
This type of effect is relatively unusual since it requires a strong anticyclonic-curved jet that develops gravity waves of sufficient magnitude. The gravity waves are the atmosphere’s way of restoring balance, and they usually don’t last for lengthy periods.

There were 1,800 UFOs tracked by NORAD radar over five years.
That equates to around 360 UFOs officially tracked by radar each year.
And as many as 75 - 15 EACH YEAR - have been intercepted as a result, according to information released by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
UFO investigators have hailed the statistics proof that the UFO phenomena is real and taken seriously by military leaders.
But there remains a veil of secrecy over what happened when they were intercepted or if any have been confined as not coming from Earth, with national security reasons being cited.
The figures were revealed to UFO investigators following a Canadian Access to Information Act request.
But officials refused to reveal any further data or specific details about individual UFO interceptions.
Candian UFO expert Victor Viggiani requested information on the tracking and intercepting of UFOs by NORAD after obtaining secret documents which detailed a case of jets being scramble to "three UFOs".
A response from NORAD said that requests for "unknown track reports" are classified and cannot be released on grounds of national security and espionage.
It said the information was not to be released to the public or media because they do not have a "valid need to know".
But the response did confirm the extent of UFO activity caught on radar.
It said: "The NORAD commander has approved the release of the following information regarding tracks of interest (TOI) and unknown tracks.
"The yearly average in the past five years has been 1,800 TOIs and 75 intercepts."
Intercepts are when NORAD scrambles a pair of fighters, which are on alert at sites around the US, to locate and attempt to identify the unknown object.
The fighters are armed and ready to take off within minutes of receiving a scramble order.
NORAD has refused to detail any of the 75 intercepts in the five year period, so it is unclear if any went off to be identified.
Although Mr Viggiani received some of the information using access to information laws, he claimed he was not permitted to share it or release it publicly and he had threatened with indictment if he did so.
The Canadian documents…indicate the Canadian government has been and remains vitally concerned about the unauthorised incursion of unidentified flying objects within Canadian airspace.

And, in a public snub at the national security implications, he said: "I have here in front of me 11 documents…they are directly from NORAD and indicate that over the last five years an average of 1,800 tracks of interest, with 75 intercepts have been made, this is directly from the commander in NORAD.
"In reference to the NORAD documents, I have been threatened with indictment if I release that file.
"I am hereby releasing it to you and I dare the US government to charge me."
On the ZlandCommunicationsNewsNetwork website, which Mr Viggiani is involved with, it says the documents are proof the UFO phenomena is real.
It said: "The Canadian documents…indicate the Canadian government has been and remains vitally concerned about the unauthorised incursion of unidentified flying objects within Canadian airspace.
"All of the above raises serious and unacknowledged questions.
"What kind of craft are able to elude NORAD’s most sophisticated aircraft?
These and other questions bring into sharp focus substantial historical, on-going and covert discussions and documentation about the UFO phenomenon among Canadian government agencies - none of which has ever been openly addressed by bureaucrats, military officials or elected representatives."
It went on to state that the documenters "may represent" sufficient evidence - if not proof - that:
*Unidentified flying objects are real;
*Both Canada and the US have put in place mechanisms for tracking, reporting on, and pursuing unidentified flying objects;
*The Canadian and American governments consider these objects as authentic;
*No attempt has been made by government, NORAD or Canadian Air Force officials to inform the general public about these concerns.
It added: "Factual evidence exists that the UFO phenomenon is of sufficient authenticity as to be of a real and on-going concern to the Canadian government and its joint NORAD operations with the USA."
The website now wants an open inquiry into why this information is not shared with the public.
It added: "This lack of transparency surrounding a national security issue suggests that either Canadian government officials are totally ignorant of the facts surrounding the UFO matter or - they and the infrastructure of government and its military have something to hide with respect to the existence of UFOs."
There was a time when women were not allowed to fly any kind of airplanes, let alone be test pilots for military fighter jets. Marina Popovich, who passed away on November 30 at the age of 86, changed all of that. After enlisting in the then Soviet Air Force, she broke the sound barrier in a MiG-21 supersonic jet fighter and went on to log over 6,000 flight hours in 40 different planes and helicopters, setting 102 aviation world records. She came close to becoming a cosmonaut but married one instead — Pavel Popovich, the 4th cosmonaut in space and the 6th person to orbit the Earth. With that kind of experience, it’s not surprising that people listened when “Madam MiG” talked about her UFO encounters and research and her Bigfoot sighting.
“We had been researching UFOs for 25 years and talking about it in small groups, but underground. People who tried to talk in public about UFOs were either fired or put in psychiatric hospitals.”

In reports of Marina Popovich’s passing, both RT and TASSmention her strong commitment to UFO research and the search for evidence of extraterrestrials, even when it was dangerous to do so. She claimed to have three encounters herself, beginning in 1962, but had to keep her findings quiet until Mikhail Gorbachov introduced transparency or glasnost, and the Soviet Union eventually broke up. That transparency inspired the title of her book, “UFO Glasnost,” in which she claimed that Soviet military and civilian pilots reported over 3,000 UFO sightings and that the KGB had the debris from five crashed spaceships hidden somewhere.
In a 1991 interview reported in the Los Angeles Times, Marina Popovich also revealed that she believes in intelligent extraterrestrials and gives this explanation why they haven’t contacted us (in their words):
“’We are not going to give you our technological information until you raise your spiritual and moral levels on Earth. And the only way to raise them is with unity, as one Earth together to reducing negative feelings, pollution and other detrimental-based energies.”

Volcanic eruptions come in many sizes and “flavors”. There are the basic, almost harmless lava flows like in Hawaii, the small rock-throwers, the pyroclastic flows, and then there are the really big ones; on top of all eruptions, in terms of strength, are the so-called supervolcano eruptions, large enough to change life as we know it and potentially return humanity to a pre-civilization state. Needless to say, we’d want to know as much as possible about these eruptions.
Thankfully, they happen quite rarely. A 2014 study estimated that such eruptions (which throw over 1,000 gigatons of material) happen once every 45,000 to once every 714,000 years. There’s no fixed cyclicity and there’s an inherent variability of such estimates, but even at the lower end, that’s not a panic-inducing figure. After all, 45,000 years is much longer than the time that has passed since mankind emerged as a proper civilization. But a new study concluded differently.
Researchers from the University of Bristol’s Schools of Earth Sciences and Mathematics report that, according to their analysis, the average time between such eruptions is only slightly greater than the age of our civilization. Jonathan Rougier, Professor of Statistical Science, says the “best guess value” is once every 17,000 years:
“The previous estimate, made in 2004, was that super-eruptions occurred on average every 45 – 714 thousand years, comfortably longer than our civilization.”
“But in our paper just published, we re-estimate this range as 5.2 – 48 thousand years, with a best guess value of 17 thousand years.”
They reached this conclusion by analyzing a large database. The difference doesn’t necessarily come from a different type of analysis or statistical approach, it comes from the fact that we now we have access to a larger database than we did a decade ago. Basically, we’ve had enough time to do more studies and we now know more about eruptions than we did in 2004.
Based on these recent figures, we’ve been quite lucky to evade supereruptions in our recent history, but it’s also important to note that volcanic activity follows no strict cycle or pattern. Just because eruptions tend to happen with this periodicity doesn’t mean they’ll always stick to it.
“On balance, we have been slightly lucky not to experience any super-eruptions since then,” Rougier added in a statement. “But it is important to appreciate that the absence of super-eruptions in the last 20,000 years does not imply that one is overdue. Nature is not that regular.”
The chances of such an eruption happening in the next 1,000 years is relatively small, and our civilization will change in unforeseeable ways in the next thousand years (just think of how much has changed in the past century). Furthermore, researchers argue, there are other issues far more pressingthan a supervolcano eruption.

Sharing The UFO File
Since the original UFO flap of 1947, the US had created a secret group sometimes referred to as 'Majestic Twelve' or ‘MJ12' to study the phenomena and to reverse-engineer technology that was recovered.
This secret MJ12 group began to grow beyond it’s mandate and eventually slipped away from presidential supervision and formed a Breakaway group operating inside the National Security State via elements in the CIA.
When Kennedy discovered this covert group operating outside the purview of the President he instituted a number of initiatives to regain control over the advanced research and technology achieved with knowledge of the Alien Presence.
One of these initiatives was to share our knowledge of the UFO Phenomena with our Russian Cold War enemies in the Soviet Union, and institute a joint Space Program/Moon Mission to avert a new arms race in space.
JFK Memos
Documented official memos from JFK, including National Security Action Memorandum 271, direct NASA to institute a new policy of cooperation in space exploration with the Russians, another memo, recently released under the Freedom of Information Act, shows JFK told the CIA to hand over all data concerning UFOs with an emphasis on “High Threat” cases.

A supervolcano could kill millions of humans, pushing us back to a pre-civilization state, far sooner than scientists previously thought, according to a new report in Earth and Planetary Science Letters. But we shouldn’t worry. Something else will probably kill us first, seeing as the global climate is warming, antibiotic-resistant bacteria are thriving, and nuclear war is a greater threat than ever. Against that backdrop, the study suggests, a supervolcano wiping out most or all humans on Earth seems like a non-issue.
Still, it’s not impossible.
In the paper published Wednesday, the Bristol University team revised previous scientific estimates of how often catastrophic supervolcano eruptions occur. While prior research put world-changing eruptions at comfortably wide intervals, the new paper shrinks that timescale considerably. Previous estimates, made in 2004, said that super-eruptions occurred, on average, every 45,000 to 714,000 years, a time scale that Jonathan Rougier, Ph.D., a statistician and the study’s first author, says is “comfortably longer than our civilization.” His new work puts the updated range at 5,200 to 48,000 years, with the “best guess” value at 17,000 years.
This range gives us significantly less time to prepare for the next cataclysmic eruption, but Rougier isn’t bothered by it. “My view … is that we should not be worried about super-eruptions,” Rougier tells Inverse.
Toba Caldera in Sumatra, Indonesia, produced the largest volcanic eruption of the past 2 million years.
Rougier’s study represents a significant change in the estimated frequency of world-changing supervolcano eruptions. By studying geological records covering the past 100,000 years, he and his colleagues found that the two most recent supervolcano eruptions occurred 20 and 30 thousand years ago.
“On balance, we have been slightly lucky not to experience any super-eruptions since then,” reports Rougier. This would seem to suggest that it’s about time we had another one of these super-eruptions, but just because we haven’t seen one doesn’t necessarily mean we’re overdue for one. In all likelihood, something else will probably kill us first.
“The probability of a super-eruption in (say) my lifetime is absolutely tiny, about 2 in 1000,” says Rougier. “From that point of view, super-eruptions are marginal in light of all the things that we need to worry about right now, and all of the other ways in which our civilization might experience a catastrophe over the next few thousand years.
That being said, Rougier notes, there definitely are communities around the world that are at risk for large — but not super — eruptions.
“They do need to plan and to invest in order to reduce their risk.”
There are rules of the physical world that don’t apply to the mental world. You can fly in a dream. You can imagine a squirrel talking to you. The realm of dreams and imagination is, however, often thought of as self-contained. It has no tangible bearing on the world at large.
Precognitive dreams have taught Dr. Julia Mossbridge otherwise. “I think that precognition is a kind of mental time travel into the future to get information,” she said. “We’re just so used to applying the rules of the physical world to the mental world that we don’t really get it that there are different rules. That’s a different domain.”
She continued: “The separation that we have between people in space and the separation we have between events in time in the physical world, who says that has to apply to the mental world?”
Precognitive dreams suggest the mind doesn’t follow the rules we usually apply to the physical world, says Mossbridge.
Mossbridge is a cognitive neuroscientist. She has been working with physicists and psychologists to figure out the rules of mental time travel. Her book, “Transcendent Mind,” co-authored with Dr. Imants Barušs, was published last year by the American Psychological Association.
Having a major scientific institution publish this book is a significant step forward for the many scientists who have seriously studied precognition, a “shared mind,” and other phenomena that suggests the mind exists beyond the brain.
Mossbridge’s personal experience with precognitive dreams started her on this research path. She said that one such dream, “knocked my socks off.”
Mossbridge had a dream that accurately predicted an event in great detail.
At the time she had the dream, she was going through a divorce. She had a 5-year-old child and didn’t know where they would live. She thought of an area where she used to live and thought it would be nice to return there.
In her dream, she called a landlady in the area that she knows. The landlady told her she had a two-story rental property. The upstairs unit had been recently refurbished and was already occupied. The downstairs unit was being refurbished and would be ready in two months. The landlady said she could show Mossbridge around the upstairs unit so she could get an idea of what the downstairs would look like when finished. If she were to sign the lease right away, she could pick the color of the paint.
In waking life, after the dream, Mossbridge didn’t call the landlady; she ran into her instead. But every other minute detail of her dream came true—the two-story property, the refurbishing, the two months until the bottom floor would be finished, picking the paint color, all of it.
“People both have dreams that seem mundane and dreams about things that are really important in their lives. Precognition works that way,” Mossbridge said. “But I’m kind of starting to get convinced that the things that seem mundane are not. That they’re more like signposts in your life. You don’t recognize them as important events, but later you go, ‘Oh yeah.'”
For example, the first precognitive dream she remembers was one she had as a child. She dreamed that her friend lost her watch on the playground, and it really happened the next day. It was a mundane event, but looking back on it, it seems important to Mossbridge. The watch represents time, a topic that would be central to her studies later in life.
As a scientist, Mossbridge asks herself whether it’s confirmation bias. In science, confirmation bias generally refers to interpreting information in a way that will confirm a preexisting belief. A meaningless dream could become “precognitive” if you look back on it and intentionally search for connections to events in waking life.
That’s why Mossbridge tests these things scientifically.
Experiments have shown people unconsciously know what’s going to happen in the future.

For example, she conducted a meta-analysis of experiments from seven independent laboratories indicating that the human body reacts to future stimuli. When something is about to happen, a person unconsciously already knows it’s going to happen. This unconscious response can be tested in a lab by measuring reactions in the nervous system, sweat glands, or heart rate.
Mossbridge described how this presentiment works with an analogy of a stick being dragged through water. The stick represents an event. There are ripples on both sides of it, representing the emotional disturbance we feel from the event. The ripples before the stick aren’t as pronounced, the ripples after the stick are bigger. Similarly, the emotional response to an event is more subtle before the event occurs than afterward.
She is also working on experiments to show that people can use remote viewing and precognitive dreaming to predict stock market events.
What if we could predict terror attacks?

Predicting mass-shooting or bombing attacks could especially help people. In 2015, Mossbridge had a precognitive dream about an Islamic State (IS) bombing in Kuwait.
She had the dream the same night it happened and a lot of the details matched up. She saw it happening during midday prayer; she saw the number 27, which was the number of people killed; she saw the letters “IS.” Some of the details didn’t match, like she thought it was in Israel, not Kuwait.

Nonetheless, Mossbridge thinks that if people could share their premonitions via an online registry, it might help. If the registry receives dozens of premonition accounts that all match up in certain regards, it could indicate an event is likely to occur.
People could avoid a certain location if a lot of people have premonitions of an attack at that location at a certain time.
Envision a future with a central premonitions registry.
Although there have been some attempts to create a premonitions registry, Mossbridge said, “They don’t seem to catch on because people can’t be out of the closet with this stuff. People are scared. If I were to tell someone about that dream about the bombing, if it was too much detail, they might be coming up to my house and saying, ‘So, you did this bombing,’” she said.
Since we don’t know how to deal with this information, she said, we say that people with premonitions are crazy, “Or more generously, those people are seeing coincidences as something that’s meaningful, but they’re just coincidences.”
While thinking about time and transcendent mental abilities are some of Mossbridge’s favorite things to do, she also works on all kinds of other cool projects. Her roles include research director of the Mossbridge Institute, director of the Innovation Lab at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and visiting scholar at Northwestern University.
Her daily work includes using compassionate robots to make people happy, developing apps to help people listen to their intuition and test their psychic abilities, and teaching Silicon Valley programmers to take care of their minds.

What part of that sounds good? Throw in “US military,” and “testing on soldiers” and you have the plot of a dystopian movie. Unfortunately, you also have news this week that this is real and tests have already begun. Does the fact that it’s purported purpose is to eventually treat mental disorders that no other therapies can help make you feel any better?
While this type of brain implant has been discussed for years, previous attempts to alter moods with implanted computer chips have failed. That’s not the case with these latest experiments, according to a new report in the journal Nature on a presentation made by researchers last week at the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) meeting in Washington DC. Two different projects are being funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for the purpose of providing new and more effective treatment for treating soldiers and veterans with severe depression or post-traumatic stress disorder.
Neuroscientist Edward Chang from the University of California, San Francisco, heads the team that is mapping the brain activities caused by moods and mood changes in six epileptics. The map will allow them to create a chip with an algorithm that recognizes oncoming mood shifts and sends signals to control them. Chang claims they’ve already tested this brain stimulation on humans.
The second team from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston is mapping the brain activity related to behaviors in people with multiple mental disorders. Their goal is to use the maps to develop algorithms to recognize problem behaviors (like distraction) caused by the illnesses and deliver brain stimulations to direct the person to more appropriate behaviors. They are currently looking for test subjects.
The researchers feel that this new type of mood and behavior altering via chip implants will work where others have failed because the mapping will allow them to personalize and pinpoint the electrical stimulations. On the downside, they still need a way to precisely measure the brain impulses so they don’t over-stimulate the person into states of extreme happiness or worse mental illness.
This all sounds wonderful and promising … until you remember that this is a government project intended to be used on soldiers. What else will this “window into the brain” allow the brain stimulators to control or modify? What else will be seen through this brain-mapping window? It’s not monitoring thoughts … yet. It’s not changing behaviors not linked to mental disorders … yet. It’s not collecting data to be sold to businesses, insurance companies, financial institutions, schools and other organizations … yet.
Are you ready to have one of these chips implanted in your brain? If you’re in the military, will you be given a choice? If you’re a civilian and have a mental disorder and other treatments have failed, will you be given a choice?
If I heard a young person say this, my first thought would be that they’re on the football team and the “Science of Daydreaming” classes were full. However, if the young person showed an acceptance letter from Akdeniz University in Turkey, they’re telling the truth and their parents are in for a big surprise.
Ufology? Only if there’s no term papers.
Erhan Kolbaşı told the Doğan News Agency that he offering the class because he wants students to be prepared for contact with extraterrestrials, including knowing the ins and outs of alien politics and galactic diplomacy. It’s nice that he’s preparing these young minds for diplomacy rather than warfare, even though he sees this contact leading to the “biggest change seen in the history of the world.”
What qualifies Erhan Kolbaşı to teach this program? He’s the deputy chair of the Sirius UFO Space Sciences Research Centerin Istanbul, which was founded by ufologist Haktan Akdoğan, who is also the founder of the Istanbul UFO Museum and will help provide background material for the courses. According to the Doğan News Agency, the course is supposed to train students on the methodology and potential sources for finding UFO and ET information.
“We believe representatives from the world and extraterrestrial civilizations will soon be making official contact with each other. We think they will be in an open and mass contact.”
Kolbaşı says he expects this “open and mass contact” to occur “within 10 or 15 years,” which appears to be a strange prediction since he and Akdoğan both seem to concur that alien contact has already occurred numerous times and will be providing the ufology students with information on cover-ups and secret files.
Those cover-ups include their beliefs that aliens and crashed UFOs have provided humans with advanced technologies (at least at the time they were found) like fiber optic cables, microchips, night vision glasses and bullet-proof clothing. Details on this information alone would be worth the price of tuition (no tuition costs were given but Akdeniz University is a major college with 31,000 students, so it’s probably comparable to major public colleges in the U.S.) but Kolbaşı also hints that he may not be able to spill all of the secret beans because of MJ-12 or Majestic 12, the alleged secret committee formed by President Harry Truman in 1947 to investigate and collect data on aliens and UFOs, and later to suppress any information on the data.
Do you think this will be on the test?
Would you take a class like this if it were offered at one of your local colleges? Even if you weren’t on a football scholarship? Does that guy sitting next to you look like Tom DeLonge? Would you be concerned that the person following you back to the dorm wasn’t a creepy freshman but an MJ-12 agent or a Man in Black?
Just to be on the safe side, you may want to purposely fail the class.
Researchers at MIT have created a new method of turning carbon dioxide emissions from power plants into a useful product. The resulting substance could be used as fuel for cars, trucks, and planes, as well as chemical feedstock with a large variety of applications.
MIT postdoc Xiao-Yu Wu developed the new membrane-based system alongside Ahmed Ghoniem, the Ronald C. Crane professor of mechanical engineering. The membrane itself is made from a compound of lanthanum, calcium, and iron oxide. It works by allowing oxygen from carbon dioxide to pass through while leaving carbon monoxide on the other side.
The scientists behind the project report that the membrane is 100 percent selective when it comes to oxygen. The separation process is driven by extremely high temperatures, with a high of 990 degrees Celsius.
It’s crucial that the oxygen that separates off from the carbon monoxide continues to flow through the membrane until it has reached the other side. This could be accomplished using a vacuum, but that technique would require a great deal of energy. Instead, a stream of fuel — such as hydrogen or methane — will be employed, as these substances are easily oxidized and don’t require a pressure difference to ferry the oxygen atoms through the membrane.
The resulting carbon monoxide can either be used as a fuel in its own right, or combined with hydrogen, water, or a mixture of the two to produce liquid hydrocarbon fuels. It can also be used to create chemicals like methanol, syngas, and more.
Environmental Impact
The heat required for the process could be supplied by solar energy or waste heat — some of which may be contributed by the power plant itself. In basic terms, the technique allows for that energy to be stored in chemical fuel form.
This is similar to the carbon capture projects being pursued by various groups all over the world. It’s no secret that we can’t maintain our current levels of carbon emissions, so something needs to be done to address the problem.
This particular technique harbors a great deal of potential: not only does it address carbon emissions, it provides a built-in method for paying for its set-up costs. Its creators have suggested that natural gas power plants could use the system in a manner that splits incoming gas into two streams: one that would be burned to generate electricity alongside its carbon dioxide production, and another that would work with the membrane to produce the oxygen-reacting fuel source. Such an implementation would allow the plant to yield syngas (a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen) as a secondary revenue stream.
The next step will be an investigation into the best way to go about increasing the rate of oxygen flow across the membrane.
