ONLINE CONSPIRACY THEORISTS ARE MORE DIVERSE (AND ORDINARY) THAN MOST ASSUME
ONLINE CONSPIRACY THEORISTS ARE MORE DIVERSE (AND ORDINARY) THAN MOST ASSUME
Conspiracy theories are known for connecting apparently unrelated events. Consider the X-Files’ Fox Mulder holed up in his office, frantically joining seemingly random dots. Or the American radio host Alex Jones connecting leaked Clinton emails and fuzzy rover pictures to conclude that NASA is running a child slave colony on Mars.
Cognitive psychologists have often claimed that conspiracy theorists possess a “monological” belief system, in which belief in one conspiracy leads to belief in others. Eventually, they explain every significant event, however unrelated, through the same conspiratorial “logic”.
On such a view, conspiracy theorists are fundamentally irrational, perhaps even pathologically so. But is this an oversimplification?
So-called “big data” approaches to psychology can give a unique perspective on these questions. By using large datasets gathered from social media websites, one can look at people interacting in everyday settings. Importantly, these approaches can capture everybody, not just the most vocal members of a community.
In a recent paper we used online comments to examine individuals who are interested in these types of ideas. We examined a complete set of comments over eight years from the conspiracy forum of reddit.com.
Our dataset included 2.2 million comments from roughly 130,000 distinct user names. Our analyses used topic modelling, a type of linguistic analysis that tries to find common themes across a large collection of documents.
We were able to identify 12 distinct subgroups of individuals who used language in different ways and who varied widely in their interests and their posting habits. What they talked about strongly suggested that they held different beliefs and attitudes about a range of conspiracies.
Eleven of these had consistent enough interests to be readily interpretable. We assigned each of them a name and created aggregate sample comments, as shown in this diagram.
We found that there were posters who fit the “monological” pattern (we dubbed them True Believers), writing at length on a wide variety of different topics. However, they were only the tip of the iceberg. Most posters had more specific interests.
Indeed, many seemed to be attracted as much to the social aspects of discussing conspiracies as the content of specific conspiracies. The group we called the Meta-redditors, for example, was most notable for their discussion of other forums on Reddit and complaints about moderation policies.
Similarly, there were subgroups (the Downtrodden) who appeared to be communicating about conspiracy theories as a way of expressing general frustration with authority.
Some were suspicious of US foreign policy (Anti-imperalists). Others may be using conspiracy topics as a way to express racist or otherwise socially unacceptable ideas (Anti-semites). There was even a distinct subgroup who appeared to be posting primarily in order to debunk conspiracy beliefs (Sceptics).
This suggests that individuals involved with conspiracy theories may have quite different motivations, beliefs and attitudes. It may not be useful to consider them as a homogeneous group.
What does all this mean for the study of conspiracy theories? It’s complicated.
On the one hand, it has long been known that online conspiracy theorising can have a variety of negative social effects, from political disengagement to actual violence. These are effects we should aim to mitigate.
On the other hand, our study also reveals something more surprising. The vast majority of posters were no more active in the conspiracy forum than they were on other reddit forums. This suggests that, for most individuals, conspiracy theories are not an all-encompassing obsession that overrides other interests, but just one interest among many. Even the most obsessed posters also spend a lot of time discussing Star Wars and trading cute cat photos on other parts of the site.
As noted, many members of online forums appear to use conspiracy theories to express legitimate doubts about structures of power, even if the details may appear striking to us. Reddit’s conspiracy forum links on its front page to a “list of confirmed conspiracies”, many of which are historically accurate. In the 1960s, for instance, the US FBI did infiltrate domestic protest groups to disrupt and discredit them. The public health service in Alabama did conduct long-term medical experiments on African American men.
Hence, we think that conspiracy theorising may be best understood as a symptom of a breakdown of trust in institutions like government and the media. Rebuilding that trust is, alas, a difficult proposal. However, our work suggests that recognising the varied and complex motivations and attitudes of conspiracy believers is an important step forward.
Originator and former host of late-night American radio talk show “Coast to Coast AM,” Art Bell died at the age of 72 on Friday at his Nevada home surrounded by his family. The news of Bell’s death was confirmed by Nye County, Nevada, Sheriff’s Office.
The last time Bell hosted an edition of "Coast to Coast AM" was in the year 2010. In the recent years, he was more involved in the creation and production of an overnight talk show named “Midnight in the Desert” on the Dark Matter Digital Network.
The current host of his former show “Coast to Coast AM,” George Noory also made an announcement about Bell’s death during his show at 1:20 a.m. local time (2:20 a.m. EDT) Saturday. The cause of Bell's death was yet to be revealed.
Born June 17, 1934, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to Arthur Bell, Jr., a United States Marine Corps captain, and Jane Gumaer Bell, a Marine drill instructor, Bell also served in the U.S. Air Force as a medic during the Vietnam War and in his free time operated a pirate radio station at Amarillo Air Force Base, where he played anti-war music that was not aired on the American Forces Network.
He was an American Broadcaster and author and the original host of the paranormal-themed show “Coast to Coast AM,” which was broadcasted on hundreds of radio station in U.S. and Canada. He also created and hosted its companion show “Dreamland.”

He semi-retired from the show in the year 2003 and hosted a lot of weekend programs on primetime networks for the following four years. Bell finally announced his retirement in July 2007 but even after that, on occasions, served as a guest host through 2010.
According to his bio, when Bell was asked the reason for his retirement, he said he wanted to spend more time with his wife and their daughter, who was born in May 2007.
But even after announcing his retirement, Bell returned to radio July 20, 2015, with a new show called “Midnight in the Desert,” which is available online on TuneIn and on some terrestrial radio stations. However, he retired again in December 2015 citing security concerns at his home.
Bell said he and his family were subject to repeated intrusions at his home in Pahrump, Nevada, including gunshots.
Fearing for his family’s safety, Bell finally decided to go off the air due to the attention that comes with living in the public life because he believed the intruder(s) wanted him to leave the shows.
In addition to his TV shows, Bell was also the original owner of a Pahrump-based radio station, KNYE 95.1 FM and both his broadcast studio and transmitter were located near his home in Pahrump itself.
Bell also lived in the Philippines from June to December 2006 and returned back in March 2009 after having difficulties in obtaining a visa for his wife. He is survived by his wife Airyn and their daughter.
First, look for a rainbow when the sun is behind you, and there are raindrops falling in front of you.
Second, know that – when making the rainbow – sunlight is emerging from many raindrops at once. A rainbow isn’t a flat two-dimensional image on the dome of sky. It’s more like a mosaic, composed of many separate bits … in three dimensions. More about the three-dimensional quality of rainbows below. Just know that your eye sees rainbows as flat for the same reason we see the sun and moon as flat disks, because, when we look in the sky, there are no visual cues to tell us otherwise.
Third, rainbows are more than half circles. They’re really whole circles. You’ll never see a circle rainbow from Earth’s surface because your horizon gets in the way. But, up high, people in airplanes sometimes do see them. Check out the photo below.
View larger. | Full circle rainbow was captured over Cottesloe Beach near Perth, Australia, in 2013 by Colin Leonhardt of Birdseye View Photography. He was in a helicopter flying between a setting sun and a downpour. Used with permission.
Ready for some rainbow physics? When making a rainbow, sunlight shining into each individual raindrop is refracted, or split into its component colors. And the light is also reflected, so that those various colors come bouncing back.
One key to rainbows is that the light leaves the collection of raindrops in front of you at an angle. In making a rainbow, the angle is between 40 and 42 degrees, depending on the color (wavelength) of the light. Physicsclassroom.comexplained it this way:
The circle (or half-circle) results because there are a collection of suspended droplets in the atmosphere that are capable of concentrating the dispersed light at angles of deviation of 40-42 degrees relative to the original path of light from the sun.
These droplets actually form a circular arc, with each droplet within the arc dispersing light and reflecting it back towards the observer.
So why are rainbows curved? To understand the curvature of rainbows, you’ll need to switch your mind to its three-dimensional-thinking mode. Cecil Adams of the newspaper column The Straight Dope explained it this way:
We’re used to thinking of rainbows as basically two-dimensional, but that’s an illusion caused by a lack of distance cues. The cloud of water droplets that produces the rainbow is obviously spread out in three dimensions.
The geometry of reflection, however, is such that all the droplets that reflect the rainbow’s light toward you lie in a cone with your eyes at the tip.
It takes an intuitive leap to see why this should be so, but let’s give it a crack. Water droplets reflect sunlight (or any light) at an angle of between 40 and 42 degrees, depending on the wavelength …
The sun is low and behind you. All the sunbeams head in, strike the cloud of water droplets ahead of you and bounce back at an angle of [approximately] 40 degrees.
Naturally the beams can bounce 40 degrees any which way — up, down, and sideways.
But the only ones you see are the ones that lie on a cone with a side-to-axis angle of 40 degrees and your eyes at the tip.
Rainbows don’t exist! They are nowhere in space. You cannot touch them or drive around them. They are a collection of rays from glinting raindrops that happen to reach our eyes. Raindrops glint rainbow rays at an angle of 42 degrees from the point directly opposite the sun. All the drops glinting the rainbow are on the surface of a cone with its point at your eye. They can be near and far. Other drops not on the cone also glint sunlight into rainbow colours but their rays do not reach our eyes. We only see those on the cone. When you look down the cone you see a circle. So rainbows are circles!

A video recording of eerie trumpet sounds from Hawaii has gone viral on YouTube, leading some to speculate that the End Times and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ are imminent. Others suggested UFOs, scientific explanations, and even Godzilla. (Watch the video below.)
"Jesus Christ is coming soon. I say it is a trumpet," a YouTube user named "Believer John Seventeen" posted.
Another user agreed. "Christ shall return. If you know Him, then you know His warnings — every eye shall hear and every ear shall hear," posted "Roger Dat." "Be not afraid for you are saved by faith in Jesus. Repent and turn from wickedness. The price was paid at Calvary and as He was risen, so shall His disciples be."
The video itself has no clear religious meaning, however.
Snippins News posted the video, reporting, "Not the first time to be heard, but it's been heard in multiple places all strangely at the same time."
"Unusual and unexplained noises are recorded in various locations around the world from time to time," Snippins News added. "While the specific origins of all such sounds may not yet be known, most scientific research points to natural causes such as tidal waves, methane explosions, underground earthquakes, or shifting sand dunes as explanations for these aural phenomena."
Even so, the YouTube channel remarked that "USGS scientist David Hill says it's also possible some of these noises originate from above."
Multiple users asked to share the video on their own YouTube channels, one with an alien focus. "Can we share this video on our Secureteam UFO channel with full credit and link back to your channel?" the alien-focused Secureteam YouTube channel posted.
Another user, perhaps joking, merely commented, "Godzilla."
User Jeff Suttles twisted the End Times angle into a Trump joke. "Heaven is trying to influence the outcome of the 2020 election by blowing trumpets," he wrote. "I say that Donald is colluding with heaven. Time to call for a special council [sic] and impose sanctions."
Christians believe that Jesus Christ will bodily return and resurrect all the dead for a final judgment. There will be one last great battle between good and evil, and God will create a new heaven and a new earth.
Beyond these general points, Christians disagree on the interpretation of the book of Revelation. Many End Times theorists have attempted to predict the exact time when Jesus will return, but Jesus rather explicitly said that not even He knew "that day or hour."
But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man(Mathew 24:36-39).
The book of Revelation records John's vision that seven trumpets will sound, as part of God's final judgment.
These sounds prove eerie, but some users suggested there would be a scientific explanation — or that the noises could even be a hoax. If these were any of the trumpets in Revelation, hail and fire mixed with blood would burn up a third of the trees on the planet, a third of the oceans would become blood, freshwater sources would be poisoned, the sun would become dark, or even worse things would happen.
The sounds in this video may seem weird, but they likely have no End Times significance whatsoever.

Star Wars’ Yoda Is Real: Master Yoda’s Image Found In 14th Century Manuscript
Just when I thought I’d seen it all. Apparently, Master Yoda From Star Wars is real.
An image of Yoda appears in a medieval manuscript of the fourteenth century, and its the best thing I’ve seen in a while.
Looking at the depiction, it obvious that there are similarities between Yoda and the character found in a manuscript of the Decretals of Gregory IX also known among researchers as the Smithfield Decretals.
It is found in the British Library and was written in the south of France probably between 1300 and 1340 and includes papal letters, doctrine, and ecclesiastical decrees.
Master Yoda was apparently found by historian Damien Kempf while researching for his new book, Medieval Monsters.
“When I came across this monster, I actually couldn’t believe it. It’s a manuscript that was produced 700 years ago,” Kempf told BBC Radio’s
Nobody knows who this character with greenish complexion, a big skirt, and big ears really is.
However, compared to an image of the Jedi master who was a mentor to the young Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, the two are identical.
The British Library started uploading images like of ancient texts like this one where we can see Yoda in 2010, so it’s not really possible that George Lucas was inspired by ancient manuscripts like these unless of course he actually went through the British Library’s archives when he was creating the first Star Wars movie.
So… how did Yoda come into existence? The make-up artist Stuart Freeborn
based Yoda’s face partly on his own and partly on Albert Einstein’s. Freeborn oversaw the design of the original Jabba the Hutt puppet used in Return of the Jedi, as well as the creation of the Ewoks.
In The Phantom Menace, Yoda was redesigned to look younger.
He was computer-generated for two distant shots but remained mostly a puppet.
The puppet was re-designed by Nick Dudman from Stuart Freeborn’s original design.
Therefore, many people—especially Star WarsFans—find it would be necessary to clarify who this greenish, Yoga-looking figure really represents, and what he’s doing in an ancient manuscript that dates back to the 14th Century.
Curiously, if you take a look at the ancient manuscript, and compare it to the ‘characters’ from Kempf’s new book, you’ll notice Yoda isn’t the only familiar character around.
You can spot a few more creatures that bear an incredible resemblance to figures of recent times.
Is that a Ferengi from Star Trek?

In December 1984 a package with no return address and an Albuquerque post-mark arrived in Jaime Shandera’s mail in North Hollywood, California. Inside was a roll of 35mm film. When developed, it turned out to contain eight pages of an alleged briefing paper, dated November 18, 1952, in which Vice Adm. Roscoe Hillenkoetter told President-elect Dwight Eisenhower of the recovery of the remains of two crashed spaceships.
In the first of these crashes, in early July 1947, authorities recovered the bodies of four humanoid beings. According to the document, which appended a copy of what was supposed to be the actual executive order, President Harry Truman authorized the creation of a supersecret group called “Majestic 12” (MJ-12 for short) to study the remains.
Acting on a tip from sources who claimed to represent Air Force intelligence, Shandera and his associate William Moore (coauthor of The Roswell Incident) flew to Washington, D.C. They searched the National Archives looking for references in official documents to MJ-12. They found a July 1954 memo from Gen. Robert Cutler, an Eisenhower assistant, referring to an “MJ-12 SSP [Special Studies Project]” to be held at the White House on the 16th of that month.

When this document was released in May 1987, it sparked massive controversy. The document is believed to be a hoax, but the identity and motive of the perpetrator remain unknown.
In the spring of 1987 an unknown individual, allegedly associated with an intelligence agency, gave British writer Timothy Good a copy of the MJ-12 document. Upon learning Good was going to disclose its existence to the press, Moore and Shandera released their copy, along with the Cutler memo. The result was a massive uproar, including coverage in The New York Times and Night line, an FBI investigation, and furious controversy that continues to this day.
For various technical reasons most investigators agree that the MJ-12 document is a forgery, but the identity of the forger remains a deep mystery that even the FBI cannot crack. The forger apparently had access to obscure official information, much of it not even in the public record, leading to suspicions that an intelligence agency created the document for disinformation purposes. Whatever the answer, the MJ-12 document is surely the most puzzling hoax in UFO history.

SUBJECT: OPERATION MAJESTIC-12 PRELIMINARY BRIEFING FOR PRESIDENT-ELECT EISENHOWER
DOCUMENT PREPARED 18 NOVEMBER, 1952
BRIEFING OFFICER: ADM. ROSCOE H. HILLENKOETTER (MJ-1)
NOTE: This document has been prepared as a preliminary briefing only. It should be regarded as introductory to a full operations briefing intended to follow.
* * * * * *
OPERATION MAJESTIC-12 is a TOP SECRET Research and Development/Intelligence operation responsible directly and only to the President of the United States. Operations of the project are carried out under the control of the Majestic-12 (Majic-12) Group which was established by special classified executive order of President Truman on 24 September, 1947, upon recommendation by Dr. Vannevar Bush and Secretary James Forrestal. (See Attachment “A”.)
Members of the Majestic-12 Group were designated as follows:
Adm. Roscoe H. Hillenkoetter Dr. Vannevar Bush Secy. James V. Forrestal* Gen. Nathan P. Twining Gen Hoyt S. Vandenberg Dr. Detlev Bronk Dr. Jerome Hunsaker Mr. Sidney W. Souers Mr. Gordon Gray Dr. Donald Menzel Gen. Robert M. Montague Dr. Lloyd V. Berkner
The death of Secretary Forrestal on 22 May, 1949, created a vacancy which remained unfilled until 01 August, 1950, upon which date Gen. Walter B. Smith was designated as permanent replacement.
On 24 June, 1947, a civilian pilot flying over the Cascade Mountains in the State of Washington observed nine flying disc-shaped aircraft traveling in formation at a high rate of speed. Although this was not the first known sighting of such objects, it was the first to gain widespread attention in the public media. Hundreds of reports of sightings of similar objects followed. Many of these came from highly credible military and civilian sources. These reports resulted in independent efforts by several different elements of the military to ascertain the nature and purpose of these objects in the interests of national defense. A number of witnesses were interviewed and there were several unsuccessful attempts to utilize aircraft in efforts to pursue reported discs in flight. Public reaction bordered on near hysteria at times.
In spite of these efforts, little of substance was learned about the objects until a local rancher reported that one had crashed in a remote region of New Mexico located approximately seventy-five miles northwest of Roswell Army Air Base (now Walker Field).
On 07 July, 1947, a secret operation was begun to assure recovery of the wreckage of this object for scientific study. During the course of this operation, aerial reconnaissance discovered that four small human-like beings had apparently ejected from the craft at some point before it exploded. These had fallen to earth about two miles east of the wreckage site. All four were dead and badly decomposed due to action by predators and exposure to the elements during the approximately one week time period which had elapsed before their discovery. A special scientific team took charge of removing these bodies for study. (See attachment “C”.) The wreckage of the craft was also removed to several different locations. (See Attachment “B”.) Civilian and military witnesses in the area were debriefed, and news reporters were given the effective cover story that the object had been a misguided weather research balloon.

A covert analytical effort organized by Gen. Twining and Dr. Bush acting on the direct orders of the President, resulted in a preliminary consensus (19 September, 1947) that the disc was most likely a short range reconnaissance craft. This conclusion was based for the most part on the craft’s size and the apparent lack of any identifiable provisioning. (See Attachment “D”.) A similar analysis of the four dead occupants was arranged by Dr. Bronk. It was the tentative conclusions of this group (30 November, 1947) that although these creatures are human-like in appearance, the biological and evolutionary processes responsible for their development has apparently been quite different from those observed or postulated in homo-sapiens. Dr. Bronk’s team has suggested the term “Extra-terrestrial Biological Entities”, or “EBE’s”, be adopted as the standard term of reference for these creatures until such time as a more definitive designation can be agreed upon.
Since it is virtually certain that these craft do not originate in any country on earth, considerable speculation has centered around what their point of origin might be and how they get here. Mars was and remains a possibility, although some scientists, most notably Dr. Menzel, consider it more likely that we are dealing with beings from another solar system entirely.
Numerous examples of what appear to be a form of writing were found in the wreckage. Efforts to decipher these have remained largely unsuccessful. (See Attachment “E”.) Equally unsuccessful have been efforts to determine the method of propulsion or the nature or method of transmission of the power source involved. Research along these lines has been complicated by the complete absence of identifiable wings, propellers, jets, or other conventional methods of propulsion and guidance, as well as a total lack of metallic wiring, vacuum tubes, or similar recognizable electronic components. (See Attachment “F”.) It is assumed that the propulsion unit was completely destroyed by the explosion which caused the crash.

A need for as much additional information as possible about these craft, their performance characteristics and their purpose led to the undertaking known as U. S. Air Force Project SIGN in December, 1947. In order to preserve security, liaison between SIGN and Majestic-12 was limited to two individuals within the Intelligence Division of Air Material Command whose role was to pass along certain types of information through channels. SIGN evolved into Project GRUDGE in December, 1948. The operation is currently being conducted under the code name BLUE BOOK, with liaison maintained through the Air Force officer who is head of the project.
On 06 December, 1950, a second object, probably of similar origin, impacted the earth at high speed in the El Indio – Guerrero area of the Texas – Mexican border after following a long trajectory through the atmosphere. By the time a search team arrived, what remained of the object had been almost totally incinerated. Such material as could be recovered was transported to the A.E.C. facility at Sandia, New Mexico, for study.
Implications for the National Security are of continuing importance in that the motives and ultimate intentions of these visitors remain completely unknown. In addition, a significant upsurge in the surveillance activity of these craft beginning in May and continuing through the autumn of this year has caused considerable concern that new developments may be imminent. It is for these reasons, as well as the obvious international and technological considerations and the ultimate need to avoid a public panic at all costs, that the Majestic-12 Group remains of the unanimous opinion that imposition of the strictest security precautions should continue without interruption into the new administration. At the same time, contingency plan MJ-1949-04P/78 (Top Secret – Eyes Only) should be held in continued readiness should the need to make a public announcement present itself. (See Attachment “G”.)
How well do you know your U.S. UFO lore? The incident referred to as the “only historically documented UFO sighting in the United States” occurred in what state? If you said “New Mexico,” you’re close … but only because the International UFO Museum Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico, donated funds to pay for a memorial to the incident which occurred on September 1st, 1969, in Sheffield, Massachusetts. There’s a UFO memorial in Sheffield, Massachusetts? Yes, but you’d better get there in a hurry because the local government wants it moved. Again. What do the aliens have to say about this?
“This Governor’s Citation [is] in recognition of the off-world incident on Sept. 1st, 1969, which engaged the Reed Family, which has been established.”
That’s part of the inscription on a 6-foot tall, 5,000-pound concrete memorial located at the end of the Old Covered Bridge, a replica (the original burned down in 1994) of the one Thom Reed, his mother, grandmother and brother crossed over on that hot night and into … something. Reed was 9 at the time and has become the official re-teller of the tale. He told it once again recently on the website All of New England.
“We then continued toward the Sheffield Covered Bridge. It was dark and there was a glow emitting up through the planks as we entered the bridge. As we exited the bridge my grandmother turned and talked to me as I had given my brother candy and she thought he might choke on it. She remarked on the luminescence that still remained behind us. At that point the craft was still beneath the riverbank.”
Reed says the craft rose up and suddenly engulfed the car in a reddish amber light.
“The next thing I remember is being in a building or a large area that resembled an airplane hangar with long fluorescent tubes, providing very low lights, equally spaced out on the top corner walls. My left arm was grabbed by a small bald hairless person. He pushed me out of the room and down a hallway. At that point I remember seeing two large ant-like insects there. They were four and a half feet tall with stick bamboo like legs. Their heads were orangey gold and shaped like a football. “
What’s a football?
The next thing Reed says he remembers is being back in the car. Only his grandmother was conscious and she drove the car back. What they thought was 15 minutes had actually been a couple of hours. They reported the incident to the police the next day and found that at least 20 others had also reported seeing a UFO. A local radio station said they received 40 calls from witnesses. At some point, Reed was said to have taken a lie detector test and got a 99.1 truth rating.
Based on that, the Great Barrington Historical Society declared the UFO sighting “historically significant and true” and money was raised, including a donation from the International UFO Museum Research Center in Roswell which has a wall dedicated to the incident, to create and install the monument at one end of the replica of the bridge. After a graffiti incident, the stone was moved a few weeks later when officials discovered it was on town property. The new location, 30 feet away on the Pine Island Farm, was eventually updated with two benches and lights and it became the Thom Reed UFO Monument Park. (Numerous photos of the monument and Thom Reed can be seen at the park website.)
“It’s kind of on town property and no one decided it could go there. The town has bylaws and if we let one place put something up then why can’t someone else? I don’t want that to happen.”
Town Administrator Rhonda LaBombard told the Berkshire Eagle that a recent land survey found that the little park with the big monument is still on a town right-of-way easement and must be moved again or the town will remove it in May. Reed himself is puzzled because LaBombard chose the site herself and farmer Louis Aragi thought it was on his private land.
What’s the problem? Despite the fact that it’s the “only historically documented UFO sighting in the United States” and the subject of six documentaries and numerous TV UFO investigation shows, the little park is probably not the tourist draw Sheffield had hoped it would be, and city officials may be concerned about future vandalism or other problems they don’t want responsibility for.
This couldn’t come at a worse time for Thom Reed. He’s currently working on three novellas based on the sighting, a possible six segment mini-series, and will be speaking at the International UFO Museum’s UFO Festival July 6- 8, 2018, where he’ll discuss the incident and probably his two other UFO encounters.
Maybe while he’s there he should pass the hat for the memorial.
What On Earth Is That? Have UFO Hunters Found A Massive Antenna on Antarctica?
What On Earth Is That? Have UFO Hunters Found A Massive Antenna on Antarctica?
Apparently, Antarctica has all the perfect ingredients for being called a Conspiracy haven.
Now, A UFO Hunter and Youtuber from Arizona (USA) claims to have discovered a giant object using satellite images from Google Earth on the Frozen Continent.
According to his claims, there’s a massive Antenna covered by thick layers of snow on Antarctica, and it wasn’t placed there by penguins, was it?
Antarctica, a continent shrouded in mystery
For years has Antarctica been mentioned in the same sentence as UFO, Conspiracy, Aliens, Secret Bases, and Pyramids.
But what makes Antarctica so mysterious, and is there anything anomalous on the frozen continent at all, other than secret penguin societies?
Mostly because of its isolated geographical position, Antarctica is being bombarded by stories of secret bases, aliens, and pyramids.
Its far away from society, its mostly uninhabited, its covered in snow, and it was once a continent teeming with life.
But because of the fact that it’s mostly uninhabited, visited mostly only by scientific expeditions, and located far away from society, the continent of Antarctica offers all necessary ingredients for a great conspiracy theory.
The above facts have made Antarctica appear every once in a while, in news as one of the most mysterious places on Earth.
Therefore, it is not strange that numerous ‘conspiracy theories, claims, and accounts’ have been proposed throughout the years, trying to explain some of the many enigmatic occurrences on Earth’s most isolated continent.
Many authors have proposed that there are many interesting things hidden beneath Antarctica that are kept away from society.
And even though we know about Antarctica only for a little over 100 years, there are numerous ancient maps that depict parts of Antarctica free of ice.
Anyway, despite the fact that many details about Antarctica are exaggerated, every once in a while, something new is found on the icy continent.
Now, a man who goes by the nickname MrMBB333, believes that satellite images from Antarctica supposedly show a structure with straight lines which he reckons, is not the product of nature, nor wind currents, for that matter.
Oh, here’s the video:
Skeptics argue that it’s just snowdrifts, but Michael insists it’s a giant antenna.
The question that arises now is who could have built such a structure in a place like that if of course, it is a massive manmade structure.
So, what do you think?
Could this be some sort of massive underground facility on Antarctica? Or is this discovery, as skeptics suggest, just the result of mother nature and wind currents?
Last week I wrote an article here at Mysterious Universe titled “Mind-Games At Area 51? 30 Years Later.” It was a look at the theory that famous UFO whistle-blower Bob Lazar may have been used and manipulated out at Area 51, in the latter part of 1988. Mind-controlled, maybe. In other words, there’s a distinct possibility that Lazar was used as a patsy in an operation to spread UFO disinformation – and with Lazar being oblivious to what was really going on around with him. As I noted in the previous article:
“If you take a look at all of the controversy surrounding Lazar’s claims, you will see that people – for the most part – fall into two specific categories. There are those who think Lazar’s claims are real and there are those who think it’s all a pile of crap. Few people ever give much thought to a third possibility. On this very point of another angle, I’m quite open to the idea that Lazar told the truth as he saw it, but the truth wasn’t what Lazar believed (and still believes) it to have been. Indeed, there are certain indications that Lazar was set-up.”
There is another issue that makes me think that Lazar had his mind played with. It revolves around certain briefing papers that Lazar said he read at Area 51’s S-4 facility and which were focused on startling, alleged secrets concerning an alien presence on Earth. One of those briefing papers, said Lazar, told a strange and almost sinister story of a violent confrontation between security personnel at Area 51 and a group of aliens that were in residence and working at S-4, alongside a scientific team. It was a confrontation that reportedly resulted in more than a few deaths.
According to Lazar, the deadly confrontation occurred at some point in 1979, in the S-4 facility. Lazar said: “I don’t remember exactly how it was started, but it had something to do with the security personnel. The aliens were in a separate room. I think it had something to do with the bullets [the security guards] were carrying, and somehow they were trying to be told that they couldn’t enter the area with the bullets, possibly because it was hazardous – the bullets could explode, through some field or whatever.”
Lazar continued that despite the warning, one of the security guards did enter the room with the bullets – something which resulted in a violent and lethal response from the aliens. Lazar recalled that the papers he read described how the security personnel were all quickly killed by “head wounds.” The same fate befell a group of scientists on the program, too.
It’s important to note that there is a variation on this story. Not from Lazar, who stuck to the story which he read out at S-4. But, from a man named Paul Bennewitz, who in the late 1970s began digging into claims that an alien base existed below the New Mexico town of Dulce. From intelligence personnel at Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, Bennewitz learned of a story of a fatal encounter between hostile aliens and a security team in the lower levels of the Dulce Base. The different location given to Bennewitz is just about the only difference between what Lazar was told and what Bennewitz was told. It’s very important to note that there is very little doubt that Bennewitz was fed disinformation and not the real deal. Moving on…
Lazar also claimed to have read various papers out at S-4 which told how we, the human race, were the product of ancient extraterrestrials who had performed various “corrections” to early humans. On top of that, there were the papers that Lazar read at S-4 which said the aliens refer to us as what we would call “Containers.” But, containers of what? Well, that’s where things get really controversial: Lazar suggested it might have been the human soul that was of interest to the aliens. Lazar told KLAS-TV’s George Knapp that “religion was created so we have some rules and regulations for the sole purpose of not damaging the containers.”
George Knapp was not the only person who Bob Lazar spoke to on this issue of aliens, containers and souls. Michael Lindemann is the author of a 1995 book, UFOs and the Alien Presence. He also questioned Lazar on this controversy-dominated aspect of the story of Lazar and those papers he read at Area 51’s S-4. Lazar added a bit more to the story, when speaking with Lindemann. Lazar said the containers were “extremely, extremely unique” and that they were “very difficult to find.”
This is not the time to debate on UFOs, aliens and human souls. Rather, it’s time to address the matter of why, exactly, Lazar was shown this allegedly highly-classified material at all. Secrets within the fields of government, the military, and the intelligence community are successfully kept hidden because of what is termed “need to know.” In other words, if you’re working on a top secret program, you’re only told what you need to know to get your part of the job done. That’s how and why the Manhattan Project of the Second World War was so shrouded in secrecy. And so successfully too: people were briefed on matters relevant to their part of the job. And that’s it.
So, with that in mind, why on Earth would someone spill the whole can of UFO beans to Lazar? Given that he was said to have worked on matters relative to the power sources of the UFOs held at S-4, why share with Lazar all of the U.S. Government’s supposed UFO top secrets, such as matters relative to religion, the human soul, and “gunfight”-type confrontations with deadly ETs? Such data would not be in any way relevant to Lazar’s work undertaken on the extraterrestrial power-plants. It goes absolutely against tried and tested practices of the government to throw away its “need to know” approach. Yet, with Lazar we’re expected to believe that this then-young guy, then-recently brought into the program, should have been so extensively briefed on such incredible matters of – we should assume – national security proportions.
Unless, that is, someone decided to deliberately expose Lazar to faked alien-themed documents, hoping that he would go public with the content of those same documents – which, by the way, is exactly what he did.
2018 UFO Researcher of the Year Award and Acceptance - International UFO Congress
2018 UFO Researcher of the Year Award and Acceptance - International UFO Congress
This year’s UFO Researcher of the Year Award went to journalist and author Cheryl Costa! This video reviews her background and the reasons she received the award.
Residents of Rockwall near Texas were baffled when a mysterious beam of light was seen on the horizon which illuminated the stormy dark sky to the east on 6 April 2018.
Numerous Reasons Might Have Caused Mysterious Beam of Light
There were many reasons given as to why people saw the strange sky phenomenon bear Rockwall in Texas. The official version for the beam of light was that the sun was shining through a hole in the clouds in the sky. However, if this was the case then the beam of light should have spread to the horizon and it did not according to witnesses.
A photo of the mysterious light was shown on Facebook and the photograph had been taken through the windshield of a car. Some people suggested that the light was a shadow on the windshield on the vehicle. But then this could not be the cause as the beam of light is seen in the background with other vehicles in-between it and the windscreen of the car. It was even said that perhaps it was a tornado but the beam of light was not changing shape nor moving.
If the strange light was a natural phenomenon then perhaps it is what is known as an anticrepuscular ray. This is a ray that is sharp at the horizon and then spreads out and widens as it goes up. If man made it could be a business spotlight or laser beam that has shown up against the dark background of the storm or a searchlight or fog light.
Some people even said that it was related to the Dark Book of Shadows by S. M. Brennan, a tale of dark witchcraft and sorcery. They said that perhaps the gates had finally been opened up and the ancient Gods had been set free upon the world along with the Dark Flame of Satanas. Others have suggested that it might be aliens and a UFO is about to land.
Here is a very interesting discovery on Mars of many structures with clear signs of intelligence construction. These are ruins of an alien civilization. Had they been found on Earth, people would have no qualms about it. However this is Mars, and since knowing that alien life existed so close to Earth would really shake up the entire world. This is why NASA doesn't want the world to know about it. NASA wants to keep it secret to see if they could find any alien technology that could be useful to America. Imagine finding a broken computer on Mars...and bringing it back, only to discover the computer has an alien version of artificial intelligence in it. NASA downloads the program and integrates it into todays modern tech, using it to control the world.
However, a video has emerged which appears to show the cause of the blue glow.
Train causes 'UFO light'
It is not yet clear why there was a blue light coming from the train.
This CCTV video, posted on Facebook by Shelley Ifill, captures a train moving at speed at 9.15pm on Wednesday with a blue light shining from the roof towards the sky.
It's not yet known exactly where the video was shot.
Train 'UFO' video
The real reason behind the 'blue glow' revealed
Rail companies have been contacted to establish which train was carrying the powerful beam, and why.
A space war “is going to happen”, and the Pentagon is not ready to face it, warn several US experts and politicians.
As if we didn’t have enough problems here on Earth; Overpopulation, Diseases, Wars, Famine, etc., it seems that we need to be worried about a potential war in space.
An article published in Politiconotes that Russia and China are “far ahead” of the United States when it comes to space militarization and in the development of means capable of destroying or rendering inoperative the satellites on which the US Army depends: from gathering intelligence to guiding precision bombs, missiles, and drones.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon is trying to catch up after years of underinvestment, injecting “billions of dollars” to bolster its defenses against antisatellite weapons, train troops and refine means to retaliate in a new form of combat that until now has only been present in Hollywood movies.

“We are now approaching a point where ‘Star Wars’ is not just a movie,” said Steve Isakowitz, CEO of The Aerospace Corp., a government-funded think tank that serves as the military’s leading adviser on space.
According to Isakowitz, the U.S. can no longer afford to take its dominance for granted.
“That supremacy in space has enabled us to have the world’s greatest war-fighting capability … whether it is our soldiers on the field, our drones that fly overhead, our bombers that travel around the world, intelligence we collect,” he told POLITICO. “More and more every day, literally, we become more dependent on it.
“And our adversaries know that,” he added in an interview.
Unsurprisingly, US President Donald Trump recently called for the creation of a “space force”: a separate military branch responsible for guaranteeing US supremacy in space (a role now played mainly by the Air Force).
Likewise, Trump’s new National Security Strategy designated space as “vital interest” for the first time, and ordered the Armed Forces to consider space as “a priority domain,” Politico explains.
But that may not be enough.
Congressman Mike Rogers, who chairs the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces of the Armed Forces of the House of Representatives, predicts that war in space will “happen,” and that “it’s just a matter of whether it happens in the next two years or in the next five or six years.“
In this sense, Rogers is worried about whether the US Air Force is paying enough attention to space.
“They always say, ‘We got this, we’re planning for this in the future,’” Rogers said. “But when you ask them to prioritize space this year, they say they can’t. People have to remember when it comes to fighting a war, our eyes and ears are in space. We can’t let adversaries take our eyes and ears out.”
Other specialists urge the Trump Administration to think more carefully about its military space policy. Thus, Joan Johnson-Freese, a professor of national security at Naval War College, doubts that space can be treated like any other battle zone.
“You can not control all the space all the time,” he says, explaining that “simply the physics of space is different than the others.”
On the other hand, Cassandra Steer, acting executive director of the Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law at the University of Pennsylvania, warns that “an armed conflict in space would be catastrophic for all players,” including “Neutral States.”
Meet ‘Die Glocke’, The Mysterious Nazi Anti Gravity Machine
Meet ‘Die Glocke’, The Mysterious Nazi Anti Gravity Machine
Die Glocke (The Bell) was a supposed Nazi Wunderwaffe, or wonder weapon.
It was described by Polish journalist and writer Igor Witkowski in Prawda or Wunderwaffe (2000), later popularized by military journalist and writer Nick Cook, as well as by Joseph P. Farrell and other authors who associate it with Nazi occultism antigravity and free energy research.
Witkowski came across details about Die Glocke in after obtaining access, through a contact in the Polish intelligence service, to the transcripts of the interrogation of an SS officer, Jakob Sporrenberg.
In them, the German narrated the details of an experiment carried out in a hidden base called Der Riese, which was in the Owl Mountains, near the Wenceslaus mine, in the Sudetes (near the Czech border).
The device, shrouded in mystery, has also been described by many authors as a possible Nazi time traveling machine.
According to Patrick Kiger’s article published in the National Geographic magazine, Die Glocke has become a popular topic of speculation, with a fandom around this and other so-called Nazi Wunderwaffen.
The Bell was presented as a magical, occult weapon, based on a technology that goes far beyond anything mankind was capable of producing.
However, the possibility that there was a hidden device completely revolutionary for its time and very rare, if possible, is something that has excited the imagination of many writers.
Some of them like Jan Van Helsing, Norbert-Jürgen Ratthofer and Vladimir Terziski did not have issues when mixing reality and fiction in a mixture that included mystical weapons, the Nazi esotericism, secret societies, and UFOs, a phenomenon that began spreading quickly in the fifties.
So, what the heck is the bell?
An illustration of the Bell.

The Bell or Die Glocke was a supposed experiment carried out by scientists from Nazi Germany who worked for the SS in a facility known as Der Riese (The Giant, in German), near the Wenceslaus mine close to the Czech border.
The Bell is described as a device “made of a hard and heavy metal”, with an approximate diameter of 2.7 m and a height between 3.7 m and 4.6 m, having a shape similar to that of a large bell.
According to Cook’s interview with Witkowski, this device contained two counter-rotating cylinders that would be “filled with a substance similar to mercury, violet in color”.
This metallic liquid was codenamed “Xerum 525” and was “stored in a tall, thin thermos, one meter high and encapsulated in lead.”
It is said that the experiments used additional substances, mentioned as Leichtmetall (light metal, in German), “including thorium and beryllium peroxides.”
Witkowski describes that when The Bell was activated, it had a range of 150 m to 200 m.
The Polish journalist explained that the goal of Die Glocke was to generate antigravity propulsion – that’s why it was tightened to the ground by means of thick chains.
Witkowski explains that when the device was activated it could cause deadly effects on living beings that were within a radius of 150 to 200 meters : freezing of the blood in the circulatory system, decomposition of the organic tissues…
This illustrates purported top secret Nazi scientific technological device knows as “the Bell” (Die Glocke). For illustration variety of sources and described features are combined.
Moreover, five of the seven members of the research team – led by physicist Walther Gerlach – perished during the tests, although it was not clear how.
Witkowski tells in his book that a French scientist named Elie Cartan had already taken important steps in that field of antigravity after the First World War, although the antigravity that generated by his alleged machine was too weak to have a practical application. Die Glocke may have been based on the technology introduced by Cartan.
Based on certain external evidence, Witkowski claims that the ruins of a concrete structure – nicknamed “The Henge” – in the vicinity of the Wenceslas mine (50 ° 37’43 ” N 16 ° 29’40 “E), about 3.1 km southeast of the main Sokolec Complex of the underground works of the Riese Project, could have served as a testing platform for an experiment on” antigravity propulsion “generated with The Bell.
However, the abandoned structure has also been interpreted as the remains of a conventional industrial cooling tower.
Whether the Bell may or may not have existed remains one of the best hidden Nazi secrets.
However, we do know that ‘Der Riese’ really existed and consisted of underground facilities that began to be built from 1943 from Książ Castle, with tunnels, railways, telephone lines, etc.
The labor force employed was about thirteen thousand prisoners, mostly transferred from Auschwitz, and according to the testimony of Albert Speer, the architect of the regime, the budget for the works amounted to one hundred and fifty million marks.

Aliens may someday take the place of the gods in the human collective consciousness. At least, that’s according to new research presented by Dr. Diana Pasulka at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Pasulka conducted a six-year study in which she travelled around the country speaking with scientists, Silicon Valley tech gurus, professionals, entrepreneurs, and other Very Important People who admit to believing in extraterrestrial intelligence. Pasulka’s study reveals that not only is belief in extraterrestrial intelligence widespread and found in nearly all strata of society, but it has also approached levels rivaling modern rates of belief in deities.
There’s a reason heaven is usually depicted as being in the sky.
According to a recent presentation Pasulka gave under the title The Incarnational Technological Self: The Case of the Crashed UFO Artifact, this widespread belief in aliens stems from a variety of cultural factors and scientific endeavors:
Widespread belief in aliens is due to a number of factors including their ubiquity in modern media like The X-Files, which can influence memory, and the realist effect produced by the search for planets that might support life, as well as alleged alien artifacts that have recently made news in outlets such as the New York Times.
In her new book American Cosmic, Pasulka claims that science fiction and other pop culture texts have become a means of answering questions formerly answered by religion. Through her research, Pasulka found that more than half of U.S. adults and more than 75% of young Americans believe in intelligent extraterrestrial life. Compare that to recent surveys by the Pew Research Center which have found that only around 68% of Americans are absolutely certain in their belief in God, and it’s clear to see that something is happening here. But we don’t know what it is yet, do we?
More importantly, will the symbol be a big-eyed grey alien head, or a flying saucer?
It makes total sense that advanced extraterrestrial aliens could take the place of gods in our mythologies. The similarities are many: both are omniscient beings who (mostly) live in the cosmic heavens and who are capable of near-magical abilities. Couple those with the mounting evidence that life likely began in space, and it’s safe to say that perhaps Scientology is only the beginning of what could be a wave of new religions which venerate alien beings as opposed to flying spaghetti monsters. Any potential discoveries of alien life will certainly lead to the creation of alien-worshipping religions, an idea which pops up in science fiction regularly. Is Earth ready for discovery, or will it lead to renewed clashes between and among the religious?
A video posted on April 5, 2018 from Brazil appears to show a weird “humanoid” shape floating in the skies over the city of Goania. Taken from a cell phone in a car, the video shows this strange UFO floating completely stationary while trees and other objects come in and out of frame, briefly obscuring the bizarre shape. Curiously, the object (or whatever it is) filmed bears an eerie similarity to footage of odd floating humanoidshapes taken in Sydney, Australia, and Abu Dhabi, UAE in October of 2017.
The Brazilian video was originally posted on Facebook and then uploaded to YouTube by the channel secureteam10, where you can watch it for yourself. If it’s a fake, it’s a very good fake. That’s not to say it is, in fact, a floating alien, returned messiah, more ghost planes, or any of the other speculative explanations, of course. It could very well be a trick of the light or an oddly shaped cloud (probably not a weather balloon, swamp gas, or ball lightning, though). What’s strange is that very similar things have been photographed or videoed in wildly different parts of the world under different atmospheric conditions.
As Ian Fleming wrote, “Once is coincidence, twice is happenstance, three times is enemy action.” That’s a good line and metaphor, not a suggestion to go throw rocks at floating humanoids, which would be horrible, horrible advice.
In October of 2017, the Sydney humanoid was filmed. This sighting happened on a apparently clearer day, and earlier in the day than the Brazil video. Once again, this video shows a dark UFO with what look to be arms hanging by its sides. In contrast to the Brazil humanoid, this object does appear to move, and the “arms” are far less pronounced in the Sydney video. It’s hard to tell, but the object does look like it’s slowly moving through the sky, parallel to the ground. Also, the Sydney humanoid apparently disappeared and reappeared several times over the course of the sighting.
What if it’s just some guy minding his own business, just trying to float around for a while?
The Abu Dhabi sighting was also in October, 2017. From the very limited documentation on this sighting, it looks closer to the Sydney video than the Brazilian video. Which is interesting, considering that they happened around the same time. The Dubai Astronomy Group stated that the object photographed in the sky over Abu Dhabi was likely pieces of a Russian refueling rocket breaking up in the atmosphere. While that explanation may make sense in the case of the Abu Dhabi event, specifically, it does not explain the sighting in Sydney, where the object appears to be moving perpendicular to gravity, and it certainly doesn’t explain the humanoid UFO in Brazil, where the object appears to be completely motionless, let alone falling and breaking apart.
It’s hard to say with any certainty at all that these events are connected. It’s easy to look at a shape and see what you want to see, and especially if that shape has the vaguest resemblance to something human. At this point it’s merely curious, but it will certainly be interesting to see if any more floating humanoids show up in the coming months.
Weird Rainbow Shaped Object Appears On Top Of A Cloud Over Colorado
Weird Rainbow Shaped Object Appears On Top Of A Cloud Over Colorado
Susie Gomez who has filmed a weird phenomenon in the sky over Colorado on April 6, 2018 wonders why the sky is blinking and why the sun is shaped very weird.
The video shows a rare shaped cloud formation with straight lines but even more strange is an astonishing rainbow colored shape that seems to stick out of the cloud.
The weird phenomenon may come from the sun behind the strange cloud, but it does not explain the strange shape circled by a clear visible rainbow-like object.
'Evidence of UFOs would count as a big secret' - Mirror writers investigate claims a Deep State is running the UK
'Evidence of UFOs would count as a big secret' - Mirror writers investigate claims a Deep State is running the UK
With new thriller Deep State starting tonight on FOX, we ask: could a shadowy network be controlling our country from behind the scenes?
Conspiracy theorists love to believe that a highly secretive group called The Deep State is controlling our country.
The term refers to a so-called clandestine network within the government, the intelligence and national security services, the military and major financial institutions.
The concept is about to become far more well-known to the British public, thanks to the new espionage thriller Deep State, which begins on FOX at 9pm on Thursday night.
Mark Strong stars in the new thriller, Deep State(Image: FOX NETWORKS GROUP (UK))
WHAT IS THE DEEP STATE?
Set in Britain, The U.S., Iran, Lebanon and France, the show has that international secret spy feel, like The Night Manager or McMafia.
Starring Mark Strong, it is based on the very real theory these elite operators are the ones who really control the government from behind the scenes. They’re the man behind the curtain.
The show begins on FOX at 9pm tonight(Image: Fox Networks Group)
The main function of the Deep State is said to be to maintain the status quo and protect the interests of the establishment.
Below, ahead of the first episode of Deep State tonight, two Mirror writers examine the evidence that it exists and draw their own conclusions...
IT must be gruelling being a conspiracy theorist.
Wherever they look they see collusion, subterfuge and deception. No action by a government minister can go unpassed without them wondering if it was part of a deeper plot.
Every headline, every comment by a politician and every statement is analysed down to the last punctuation mark to see if it is part of a wider conspiracy.
Occasionally, the paranoia is justified. But for the most part, when conspiracy theorists see some sinister act orchestrated by a secretive network, the explanation is far more mundane.
There is much to criticise about our political system. The Tory Party is too reliant on a small clique of wealthy donors.
Is the Deep State at work right under the nation's noses?
Parliament, the civil service, the corporate world and the media are still too dominated by white, male Oxbridge graduates.
The revolving door of former ministers sailing into business and lobbying spins frenetically. There is, above all, a frightening lack of transparency when it comes to ministers’ conduct.
We are one of the few developed democracies which refuses to force ministers to publish their official diaries and tax returns. Our energy should be directed at fixing these flaws, not attacking institutions which police them.
It is no coincidence concerns about the Deep State/Establishment have become more vociferous in the age of populist politics.
Trump’s call to “drain the swamp” in Washington and the Brexit eers’ attack on the Treasury are from the same playbook. They are trying to undermine the institutions which hold them to account. This not about a Deep State, it is about being anti-state.
US President Donald Trump has brought the term 'Deep State' out of the shadows(Image: AFP)
They dislike big government because it stops them pushing through plans for a free market economy unburdened by pesky things such as workers’ rights and environmental protections.
By and large Britain has been blessed with its institutions, whether it is our civil service, the BBC or the NHS. All these organisations can be frustrating, stuffy, sclerotic and bureaucratic.
But at the moment we need a functioning state apparatus, however flawed, more than ever.
It is the only thing standing in the way of the Trumps of this world. When we start spreading conspiracy theories we are conspiring to undermine it.
