Crop Circle Dorset, UK resembles a scene from the movie ‘the Arrival’ – Drone footage 4K
A new crop picture at Ackling Dyke, Nr Sixpenny Handley, Dorset, UK on June 4, 2018 shows a “seven-pointed star”, with “small round jewels” and Aztec-Mayan symbols for “calendar time” around the outside:
The crop circle resembles a scene from a movie called “The Arrival” (2016). Will “alien heptapods” really come soon to Earth, or is this just a clever joke by the crop artists?
At the moment there are 20 volcanoes erupting around the world, most are concentrated in the Ring of Fire and it seems the situation is getting worse.
Besides that the Merapi and Sinanbung volcanoes erupt in Indonesia, with the on going eruptions in Hawaii, the situation in Hawaii is not getting any better, a USGS time-lapse of the Kilauea summitreveals a 1500 yard section that's 400 yards wide make a significant shift downwards which is a major move.
Meanwhile Guatemala's Fuego volcano erupted violently on Sunday, prompting deadly pyroclastic flows which buried rural areas and today the volcano has erupted again.
The death toll from the eruption of the Fuego volcano in Guatemala has risen to 69. The volcano began erupting Sunday, sending columns of smoke and ash 10 km into the air, killing dozens by engulfing them in floods of searing ash and mud.
At least 1.7mn people have been affected by the volcano’s sudden violent activity, with more than 3,200 people forced to flee their homes.
And today the Fuego volcano has erupted again setting off new evacuations and alarm as rescuers continue to search for survivors
There are a number of questions we ask ourselves every time, while gazing at the sky. Do aliens exist? This is a common question unanswered question that most of us ask ourselves and is unanswered. Can there be life across billions of light years in the sky?
None of us know that and it is a debate that has been there for centuries. There is no certainty about it also if there is something like the alien in the sky then that would totally change the understanding of the universe. Extraterrestrial life is real or not is something we cannot answer until they get in touch with us.
What do the scientists say?
Scientist have worked on a lot of theories and have worked out the look of the aliens, though we haven’t seen the aliens for real except for in fictional movies so we cannot really comment. According to the scientists and their recent research, aliens are imagined to be powerful monsters that either look like humanoids or insect like machine. One thing that the scientists are clear about is that they do look familiar to humans. According to a lot of recent studies, the researchers feel that they cannot comment on the exact look of the alien; or on whether they have grey eyes or grey skin but they can just say and conclude by what they have researched is that they have quite a lot of similarities to use and are to a large extent like us.
The fictional cinema
Whether they exist or not? Whether you believe in them or not? It cannot be denied that aliens form an important and an integral part of our cinemas. Whether they are the sci-fi movies or the fantasy horror movies; these extraterrestrial creatures are shown and depicted in them to be quite friendly, some have also shown to be scary. The sci-fi directors take the subject of aliens and UFO quiet seriously and bang on it because it is something that the audience is unaware of, which is best for fictional cinema. So whether you love them or hate them, or love to hate them, these creatures are an important fictional part of our cinema and have always been.
Some great movies in the past decade and in the present time have just been focused on aliens. Some of them being:
Aliens — A sci-fi action film that was made in 1986 as a sequel to the 1979 aliens movie. It is about a girl who returns to moon to see her crew with a hostile creature. It is quite an interesting film and a great sequel.
Men in black — This is one of the best sci-fi movies till date which is about two agents in black who supervise the extraterrestrial creatures that are found on earth and help them in hiding their existence.
Independence Day — A must watch scientific fiction movie that deals with an attack by the extraterrestrial race.
Resurgence, Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets and edge of tomorrow are some other great sci-fi movies on aliens and extraterrestrial creatures.
East Antarctica is the coldest place on Earth. It is permanently covered in ice; there are no trees or shrubs, just bits of lichens, moss, and clinging algae. The idea that humans may not want to kick it there — or even think about it — is pardonable. But by avoiding the Earth’s icebox, a team of researchers argue a new Nature Geoscience paper, we’ve also ignored the massive continent’s terrifying geology: The frozen wasteland, they write, has earthquakes — and lots of them.
The flow of Antarctic ice, derived from feature tracking of Landsat imagery.
Until recently, they explain in their paper, the geologic structure and tectonic activity of East Antartica were relatively unknown. The first earthquake there was recorded in 1982, and only eight earthquakes have been reported since. Scientists had accepted the theory that East Antarctica just didn’t really experience earthquakes because its seismic activity was suppressed by the weight of the region’s thick ice. But that assumption, lead author and Drexel University professor Amanda Lough, Ph.D., explains to Inverse, isn’t true.
“East Antarctica shows comparable levels of seismicity as other stable cratons,” she says, referring to the geological term for the chunk of the Earth’s crust that makes up a continent’s backbone. “So at least for the East Antarctic Ice Sheet, the presence of a several-kilometer-thick ice sheet is not suppressing seismicity.”
A teammate of Lough's, orienting a seismic censor after it was installed in East Antarctica.
In their study, Lough and her team did something no team had done before: They paid attention to the continent. In 2009 alone, Lough and her teammates detected 27 intraplate tectonic earthquakes in the interior of East Antarctica using a system of linked seismometers arranged in regular geometric patterns known as a seismic array. These quakes, she says, mark the first locally recorded seismicity in the region. It isn’t that East Antarctica is experiencing more quakes than it did in the past, when only eight had been observed: It’s that these 2.1- to 3.9-magnitude rockers are actually being recorded. “The seismicity would have always been there,” explains Lough, “but without seismic instruments in the area we are unable to detect it.”
For Lough and her team, setting up this seismic array system, the first winter-through-summer system to be set up in the region, meant living in the harsh Arctic environment and digging out runways to fly from point to point. Most of the seismic activity was recorded in basins near the Gumburtsev Subglacial Mountains, which the team believes are a part of an ancient continental rift system. Little activity was recorded outside the rifts, which is in line with previous research on seismic events: 52 percent of earthquakes are thought to occur in rifted crust. In a statement released Monday, Lough explained that the rifts “provide zones of weakness that enable faulting to occur more easily,” so it’s likely that seismic activity emerges when rifts are already weak.
The Global Seismographic Network.
The new Antarctic data contributes to our continually growing understanding of the planet’s tectonic plates. The Global Seismic Network tracks seismic activity in real time via 150 stations around Earth, but there are still some holes in its coverage. Antarctica is far from the final frontier of seismicity research as there’s still the world’s oceans, which casually cover 71 percent of the planet but aren’t exactly the easiest place to set up instrumentation.
“We have the broad picture understanding of the plates, boundaries, and how they interact down quite well — now we’re working towards understanding the smaller details,” says Lough. “We’re trying to understand the details of what makes one continent different from the others.”
Almost seven decades ago, visitors to the Long Range Weapon Establishment at Salisbury in Adelaide's north would have seen something that was, at the time, quite amazing.
Pointing skywards, in all its dubious glory, was a Nazi V-2 rocket of the kind that, in the final months of World War II, brought a late wave of destruction to London, Norwich, Paris and Antwerp.
Mounted on its carrier known as a Meillerwagen, this particular V-2 towered above its new owners. Black and white photos from the time reveal a strikingly formidable object.
Ominously elevated, it looks ready to launch — perhaps for the moon, perhaps for Mars.
The rocket had arrived in Adelaide months earlier, when it was off-loaded at Outer Harbor in October 1947.
It was not the first V-2 to be sent to Australia — in March, a ship carrying another had docked at Fremantle. That rocket had also passed through Adelaide en route to Melbourne, and was then transported to Sydney.
The story of how they ended up Down Under is an intriguing one that involves science, politics and Cold War anxieties.
Australia's two V-2s are currently in storage at an Australian War Memorial (AWM) facility in suburban Canberra.
"When they came out [to Australia] flocks of people crowded to view them and see these Nazi terror weapons," said Shane Casey, senior curator of military heraldry and technology at the AWM.
One is mostly complete. Its components were seized after the war and put together as part of Operation Backfire, a mission by the Allies to capture and test German military technology.
"When the Allies conquered Germany, they found largely disassembled rockets or rockets ready to be assembled," Mr Casey said.
The Meillerwagen trailer accompanying the V-2, which was used to raise the rockets onto launch pads, is one of the few surviving examples of the technology.
The other V-2, which left London's docks aboard the vessel Karamea in February 1947, is today in bits, which are themselves in disrepair. It was shipped to Australia primarily as a museum piece, and little is known about its origins.
"There was some confusion as to whether it was destined for the Australian War Memorial or whether it was destined for the RAAF at Woomera. There seems to have been some dissension in official channels about that."
In 1948, the media was invited to view the more complete V-2 at Salisbury, where scientists had been inspecting it for design clues. That work was part of efforts to develop a local rocket program for defence — a project that also included the Woomera range.
At some point over the next few years, it was painted with a different colour scheme. The trail goes cold until 1954, when the rocket was put on display at a Salisbury school and at the Mallala air show.
On October 3, 1942, a prototype V-2 rocket became the first human-made object to reach space. The missiles were the brainchild of Wernher von Braun, a German scientist of aristocratic background.
Von Braun is a controversial character, and he continues to fascinate historians. A member of the Nazi Party, he would later play a leading role at NASA, overseeing the Saturn rocket program that enabled the Apollo missions to the moon.
Even a generous biographer would concede von Braun was a morally dubious human being. Undoubtedly clever and apparently very charming, he was also a committed German nationalist and a member of the SS. He was unconcerned by the fact his V-2s were built by concentration camp inmates, thousands of whom died during construction.
The first V-2 attacks occurred in September 1944. Over the next six months, thousands of civilians were killed by the missiles, with Antwerp and London bearing the brunt.
One V-2 came to Earth in Southborough in Kent, near a house belonging to David Bowie's grandparents, and it is interesting to speculate whether the recurring themes of rocketry and space travel in Bowie's work owe their inception to that episode. (In 1977, he released a track referencing the missiles, called V-2 Schneider).
Von Braun was in the grip of a belief that in his day made him exceptional, but is today commonplace among technophiles — that there is an imperative for humans to conquer space. Unable to make rockets for peaceful purposes, he was instead happy to design them to kill people.
"Our V-2 is significant from a technological point of view, in the progression of humanity through rocketry and its desire to achieve immortality in space," Mr Casey said.
"The V-2 is really a baby Saturn V [the rocket used in the Apollo 11 mission]. The Saturn V was a liquid-fuelled rocket as well and used very much the same elements in its combustion chamber.
"But we're also very aware of the fact that [the V-2] was a weapons system developed by one of the most heinous regimes on Earth.
"On a regular basis, people suspected of sabotage were executed, and they would leave the bodies on overhead cranes."
At the end of the war, von Braun began working for the Americans, migrating in 1945.
In addition to his work, he became a populariser of scientific ideas. (In 1947, he wrote a novel about colonising space and, in a spooky coincidence, named his fictitious leader of Mars 'Elon'.)
His self-reinvention from Nazi villain to NASA hero is a testament to the man's slipperiness. But he was never able to shake his shady past. When he visited Australia in 1962 to deliver lectures to students, not everyone was in a welcoming mood.
The newspaper Tribune reported on "rising concern" among parents at the thought of a Nazi teaching their children.
"Once a photograph of the Earth, taken from outside, is available... a new idea as powerful as any in history will be let loose."
Hoyle may have been unaware that, two years earlier, American engineers in New Mexico had used a captured V-2 to take a photo of the Earth's surface. But that image showed only a portion of the planet.
It took another two decades for Hoyle's wish to be properly granted. In 1968, NASA astronaut Bill Anders took the photo now known as Earthrise. It is a stunning image, depicting the planet rising above the horizon of the moon.
The Saturn V rockets that helped Major Anders and others into space were designed at the Marshall Space Flight Centre in Alabama, under the direction of Wernher von Braun.
Australia's V-2s have not lost their "wow" factor, Mr Casey said, and continue to shock visitors because of their size and scale.
"I can remember one instance where a woman had been the victim of a V-2 rocket attack, and when she was confronted with the rocket up-close it was almost an overwhelming experience for her," Mr Casey said.
Conservation work will begin on the more complete rocket next year in the hope of putting it back on permanent display.
Mr Casey said tests would also be carried out on the Meillerwagen for urea, a compound found in urine. Slaves working in secret underground facilities built the V-2s and it's believed that, in an act of resistance, they relieved themselves on the machines in an attempt to weaken them, disrupting the V-2 program.
The story of the V-2 starkly demonstrates the double-edged nature of technological progress: rockets that were used as missiles inspired rockets that have helped us get to the moon.
As von Braun allegedly said, "science does not have a moral dimension. It is like a knife. If you give it to a surgeon or a murderer, each will use it differently."
This new crop circle is super detailed and incredibly precise. The circle just appeared in Ackling Dyke, Nr Sixpenny Handley, Dorset. This is the most beautiful formation discovered this year so far!

In the face of climate change, deforestation and biodiversity loss, creating a sustainable version of civilization is one of humanity's most urgent tasks. But when confronting this immense challenge, we rarely ask what may be the most pressing question of all: How do we know if sustainability is even possible? Astronomers have inventoried a sizable share of the universe's stars, galaxies, comets, and black holes. But are planets with sustainable civilizations also something the universe contains? Or does every civilization that may have arisen in the cosmos last only a few centuries before it falls to the climate change it triggers?
Astrophysicist Adam Frank, a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of Rochester, is part of a group of researchers who have taken the first steps to answer these questions. In a new study published in the journal Astrobiology, the group--including Frank, Jonathan Carroll-Nellenback, a senior computational scientist at Rochester, Martina Alberti of the University of Washington, and Axel Kleidon of the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry--addresses these questions from an "astrobiological" perspective.
"Astrobiology is the study of life and its possibilities in a planetary context," says Frank, who is also author of the new book Light of the Stars: Alien Worlds and the Fate of the Earth, which draws on this study. "That includes 'exo-civilizations' or what we usually call aliens."
Frank and his colleagues point out that discussions about climate change rarely take place in this broader context--one that considers the probability that this is not the first time in cosmic history that a planet and its biosphere have evolved into something like what we've created on Earth. "If we're not the universe's first civilization," Frank says, "that means there are likely to be rules for how the fate of a young civilization like our own progresses."
As a civilization's population grows, it uses more and more of its planet's resources. By consuming the planet's resources, the civilization changes the planet's conditions. In short, civilizations and planets don't evolve separately from one another; they evolve interdependently, and the fate of our own civilization depends on how we use Earth's resources.
In order to illustrate how civilization-planet systems co-evolve, Frank and his collaborators developed a mathematical model to show ways in which a technologically advanced population and its planet might develop together. By thinking of civilizations and planets--even alien ones--as a whole, researchers can better predict what might be required for the human project of civilization to survive.
"The point is to recognize that driving climate change may be something generic," Frank says. "The laws of physics demand that any young population, building an energy-intensive civilization like ours, is going to have feedback on its planet. Seeing climate change in this cosmic context may give us better insight into what's happening to us now and how to deal with it."
Using their mathematical model, the researchers found four potential scenarios that might occur in a civilization-planet system:
Die-off: The population and the planet's state (indicated by something like its average temperature) rise very quickly. Eventually, the population peaks and then declines rapidly as the rising planetary temperature makes conditions harder to survive. A steady population level is achieved, but it's only a fraction of the peak population. "Imagine if 7 out of 10 people you knew died quickly," Frank says. "It's not clear a complex technological civilization could survive that kind of change."
The population and the temperature rise but eventually both come to steady values without any catastrophic effects. This scenario occurs in the models when the population recognizes it is having a negative effect on the planet and switches from using high-impact resources, such as oil, to low-impact resources, such as solar energy.
Collapse without resource change:The population and temperature both rise rapidly until the population reaches a peak and drops precipitously. In these models civilization collapses, though it is not clear if the species itself completely dies outs.
Collapse with resource change: The population and the temperature rise, but the population recognizes it is causing a problem and switches from high-impact resources to low-impact resources. Things appear to level off for a while, but the response turns out to have come too late, and the population collapses anyway.
"The last scenario is the most frightening," Frank says. "Even if you did the right thing, if you waited too long, you could still have your population collapse."
The researchers created their models based in part on case studies of extinct civilizations, such as the inhabitants of Easter Island. People began colonizing the island between 400 and 700 AD and grew to a peak population of 10,000 sometime between 1200 and 1500 AD. By the 18th century, however, the inhabitants had depleted their resources and the population dropped drastically to about 2,000 people.
The Easter Island population die-off relates to a concept called carrying capacity, or the maximum number of species an environment can support. The earth's response to civilization building is what climate change is really all about, Frank says. "If you go through really strong climate change, then your carrying capacity may drop, because, for example, large-scale agriculture might be strongly disrupted. Imagine if climate change caused rain to stop falling in the Midwest. We wouldn't be able to grow food, and our population would diminish."
Right now researchers can't definitively predict the fate of the earth. The next steps will be to use more detailed models of the ways planets might behave when a civilization consumes energy of any form to grow. In the meantime, Frank issues a sober warning.
"If you change the earth's climate enough, you might not be able to change it back," he says. "Even if you backed off and started to use solar or other less impactful resources, it could be too late, because the planet has already been changing. These models show we can't just think about a population evolving on its own. We have to think about our planets and civilizations co-evolving."
In the search for great names for bands, the Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detectors has been available since the 1990s without any takers. That may change this week with the news that this odd device was used to discover a particle that should not exist – the sterile neutrino … a particle that can allegedly pass through matter and not interact with it (and another great band name if your bass drum isn’t big enough for the Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detectors logo). Unfortunately, the experiment could not be replicated until recently which scientists using a new device appear to have proven its existence. Is it possible? Here’s the real question … is it band-name-worthy?
“That would be huge; that’s beyond the standard model; that would require new particles … and an all-new analytical framework.”
That’s Kate Scholberg, particle physicist at Duke University, commenting in LiveScience on the announcement, published in arXiv.org, of the possible discovery of the sterile neutrino by scientists at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois. It took the invention of another device — the MiniBooNE (Mini Booster Neutrino Experiment) instrument which was built solely to find the allegedly massless neutrinos – to discover the sterile neutrino (the other three are the electron, muon, and tau neutrinos) and then potentially blow the Standard Model of physics to smithereens by proving that neutrinos are not massless but, well, smithereens that can still pass through matter without interacting with it. This sounds like something dark matter might do. Are the sterile neutrinos dark matter?
As described in Quanta Magazine, the MiniBooNE sounds like something invented at a summer picnic by guys tired of firing their shotguns at empty beer cans. MiniBooNE shoots a beam of muon neutrinos at a giant tank filled with oil. Before hitting the oil, some of the muons change (by oscillation) into electron neutrinos which flash when they collide with oil molecules. While this happens rarely, it can be predicted reliably … which caused oscillation among physicists when the total number of hits was slightly higher than predicted.
One possible explanation is that heavier sterile neutrinos – called “sterile” because they never interact with anything but other neutrinos – exist and are also changing into electron neutrinos. The increase in mass measured on the other side of the oil barrel by the MiniBooNE indicates that the sterile neutrinos may not only exist but are not massless as previously theorized. And, if their mass is heavy enough, they could be good candidate for being dark matter.
Or not.
“It’s clear there’s something to be understood, and I certainly hope it’s a fourth neutrino. That said, this would be the first discovered particle beyond the Standard Model, so the threshold for the evidence is obviously very high.” For now, he said, “I am taking a slight wait-and-see approach.”
Skeptics like Neal Weiner, a New York University theoretical physicist interviewed by Quanta, point out that more proof is needed before tossing the Standard Model out the window, especially because other similar experiments have not been able to replicate the results of MiniBooNE.
“I’m very excited about this result, but I am not ready to say ‘Eureka!’”
Janet Conrad, a neutrino physicist at MIT and a member of the MiniBooNE team, agrees, which is why she’s moving from MiniBooNE to ISODAR — an ISOtope Decay At Rest experiment which is being designed to “definitively address these physics topics using a well-understood, high-intensity 8Li β-decay-at-rest antineutrino source coupled with a massive detector such as KamLAND that has good inverse-betadecay identification capabilities with high efficiency.”
Eureka?
It’s nice to know there’s research money being spent on particle physics and, if the sterile neutrino has really been discovered, these experiments destroying the Standard Model of Particle Physics do not blow us to smithereens in the process.
They are also a great band name generator, as The Smithereens have proven. While ISODAR may not fit a band, it sounds like a great name for a Star Wars villain.
You spend a third of your life asleep, a good chunk of which involves dreaming. But most often, you don’t remember any of your dreams. And even on those lucky days when you wake up with a memory of the dream still floating in your mind, there’s a good chance that in just a minute the memory will vanish into thin air and back to dreamland.
In waking life, such a case of quickly forgetting recent experiences would surely land you in a doctor’s office. With dreams, however, forgetting is normal. Why?
“We have a tendency to immediately forget dreams, and it’s likely that people who rarely report dreams are just forgetting them more easily,” said Thomas Andrillon, a neuroscientist at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. It might be hard to believe that you had a dream if you don’t remember anything, but studies consistently show that even people who haven’t recalled a single dream in decades or even their entire lifetime, do, in fact, recall them if they are awakened at the right moment, Andrillon said.
While the exact reason is not fully known, scientists have gained some insight into memory processes during sleep, leading to several ideas that may explain our peculiar forgetfulness.
You are awake, but is your hippocampus? When we fall asleep, not all the brain’s regions go offline at the same time, according to a 2011 study in the journal Neuron. Researchers have found one of the last regions to go to sleep is the hippocampus, a curved structure that sits inside each brain hemisphere and is critical for moving information from short-term memory into long-term memory.
If the hippocampus is the last to go to sleep, it could very well be the last to wake up, Andrillon said. “So, you could have this window where you wake up with a dream in your short-term memory, but since the hippocampus is not fully awake yet, your brain is not able to keep that memory,” Andrillon told Live Science.
While this might explain why dream memories are so fleeting, it doesn’t mean that your hippocampus has been inactive throughout the night. In fact, this region is quite active during sleep, and appears to be storing and caring for existing memories to consolidate them, instead of listening for incoming new experiences.
“Some data shows that [during some sleep stages] the hippocampus is sending information to the cortex, but not receiving any,” Andrillon said. “This unidirectional communication would allow sending memories from the hippocampus to the brain’s cortex for long-term storage, but new information wouldn’t be registered by the hippocampus.”
Upon awakening, the brain may need at least 2 minutes to jump-start its memory-encoding abilities. In a 2017 study published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, researchers in France monitored sleep patterns in 18 people who reported remembering their dreams almost every day, and 18 others who rarely remembered their dreams. The team found that compared with low-dream recallers, high recallers woke up more frequently during the night. These middle-of-the-night awakenings lasted an average of 2 minutes for high recallers, whereas low-recallers’ awakenings lasted for an average of 1 minute.
Neurochemical soup Our poor ability to encode new memories during sleep is also linked to changes in the levels of two neurotransmitters, acetylcholine and noradrenaline, which are especially important for retaining memories. When we fall asleep, acetylcholine and noradrenaline drop dramatically.
Then, something strange happens as we enter the rapid eye movement (REM) stage of sleep, where the most vivid dreams occur. In this stage, acetylcholine returns to wakefulness levels, but noradrenaline stays low.
Scientists have yet to work out this puzzle, but some suggest that this particular combination of neurotransmitters might be the reason we forget our dreams. The boost in acetylcholine puts the cortex in an aroused state similar to wakefulness, while low noradrenaline reduces our ability to recall our mental escapades during this time, according to a 2017 study in the journal Behavioral and Brain Sciences.
Sometimes your dreams are just not memorable Do you remember what you were thinking about this morning when brushing your teeth? Our minds wander all the time, but we discard most of those thoughts as nonessential information. Dreams, especially mundane ones, may be just like daydreaming thoughts and deemed by the brain to be too useless to remember, the late dream researcher Ernest Hartmann, who was a professor of psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine, wrote in Scientific American.
But dreams that are more vivid, emotional and coherent seem to be better remembered — perhaps because they trigger more awakening, and their organized narrative makes them easier to store, Andrillon said.
If you are intent on improving your dream recall, there are a few tricks to try. Robert Stickgold, an associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, suggests drinking water before bed, because it will make you wake up at night to use the bathroom. These “middle-of-the-night awakenings are frequently accompanied by dream recall,” Stickgold told The New York Times.
Once in bed, repeatedly reminding yourself that you want to remember your dreams may increase your chances, and so does keeping a dream journal, some studies have suggested. Upon waking up, hang on to that fragile dream memory: Keep your eyes closed, stay still and replay the dream memory, until your hippocampus catches up and properly stores the memory.

“There are no aliens, no alien abductions and no alien cattle mutilations”, said the late William “Bill” Cooper, author of BEHOLD A PALE HORSE in this important 1999 interview:
Just around the time when he wrote his book BEHOLD A PALE HORSE, Bill Cooper began to depart from “ufology” and was also beginning to hypothesize that “UFOs” had nothing to do with “aliens” but was a manipulation of the government to bring about fear to create a one-world government.
Cooper began to admit that he most likely had been shown disinformation by the government while he was in military service. On this point, I truly commended Cooper for his admission.
Cooper began to state that he was no longer a “ufologist”. It was Cooper who coined the term “ufoology” and I also commended him for it.
I basically agree with Bill Cooper on many of the things he said about UFOs and Aliens.
There is no evidence whatsoever (so far) that there are sentient, physical extraterrestrial biological entities commonly known as Aliens.
UFOs do not represent any conclusive evidence whatsoever of physical ET visitations.
The above all refer to physical reality as we know it.
(However, some say that there could be more to reality than just purely physical reality in this mysterious universe……I couldn’t agree more. This falls in the realm of religious or spiritual beliefs of each person. I do not discount the religious concept of the existence of paraphysical entities, both benevolent or malevolent in nature. Some claim that malevolent, fallen paraphysical entities, also described as “demonic”, could be materializing and de-materializing at will, posing as physical aliens to pre-selected observers and could be deceiving many.)
P.S.
Bill Cooper was also a troubled individual, deep inside. There was a dark side to his complex personality – – he was extremely short-tempered and had a problem with alcoholism. When he first started giving lectures at UFO meetings and conferences (beginning in 1989), he insisted that one day he had witnessed a sub-merged disc-shaped object rising out of the sea while on a Navy ship during the time he was in military service. This claim has never been collaborated by any other witness except himself. But he had already included this story in the book. I am not saying that he did not see the disc-shaped object. He could have seen it. The bottom line is that by the time he wrote his book, he had long come to the conclusion that all UFOs are man-made objects created by the government.
However, I disagree with his views that all UFOs are man-made objects.
I also do not agree with Bill Cooper that the government has built man-made UFOs in places like Groom Lake/Area 51
The good news unbeknownst to many is that much of the debunking criticism against the extraterrestrial hypothesis, ufology, exopolitics, experiencers, socially conscious insiders and/or whistleblowers can be considered as rationally flawed.
Institutional defenders of conventional, official truths have sometimes avoided the UFO question but have occasionally misrepresented facts. For example, as physicist Stanton Friedman often points out, the Secretary of the Air Force D. Quarles said to reporters that no flying saucer had flown over the U.S.; that only 3% of reports received by Project Blue Book remained “unknown”and that eventually even that percentage would be identified as conventional phenomena or illusions. But in, truth, the percentage of overall “unknowns” which had been presented earlier inside the Air Force by Project Blue Book’s Special Report number 14 had been 21.5%. Furthermore, if the witnesses level of education was greater and the case provided greater details, the percentage of “unknowns” went up to 30%. Moreover, a chi square analysis performed by Battelle Memorial Institute comparing “unknowns” with the “knowns” (or clearly identified objects) gave a probability of less than 1% that the “unknowns” would simply be misperceptions or mistakes. Therefore, there was at least a truly puzzling phenomenon taking place (in fact worldwide) even though it was being publicly dismissed while secretly reported in a completely different manner.
An accumulation of observations is important and an accumulation of analyzed witness testimonies does not have to be a form of weak or irrelevant evidence in the natural sciences. Inductive reasoning is most fundamental to the advancement of SCIENCE because experience is what brings in data and information that requires new explanations. New scientifically designed, international, anonymous surveys with a larger, anonymous population like that conducted by F.R.E.E. (the Edgar Mitchell Foundation for Research into Extraterrestrial and Extraordinary Encounters (www.experiencer.org)) provide statistical patterns that increase the gravitas of testimonial evidence. It is unreasonable to simply think that thousands of witnesses are lying or definitely mistaken in their observations although they are willing to anonymously answer hundreds of questions. There is a place for human testimony, not only in the social sciences and in a court of law but also in the natural sciences. In part it depends on how scientifically that testimony is acquired and treated. This statistical quantitative and qualitative data (which in some important aspects contradicts popular notions about extraterrestrials) must be taken into account.
Science advances when theories adapt to evidence and experience and theories should not be considered final but, rather, well-organized, temporary and probable explanations that best explain phenomena and data accumulating through experience. Taken as well-organized explanations – hopefully with predictive power – theories must evolve as new data and experiences are registered and accepted. However, oftentimes, the acceptance of data and phenomena is precluded by biases and there often are sociological and psychological reasons to unscientifically reject phenomena that don’t fit in well with accepted theory.
It is becoming clear that we only perceive a limited segment of reality. There may well be ‘laws of physics’, inter-reality processes and types of energies that contend with phenomena not currently accepted by mainstream science, an endeavor still excessively biased toward representing all experienced reality as based upon materialism and mechanicism. This occurs in spite of alternative implications from quantum physics regarding the “de-materialization” of matter and the inseparable role of choice, consciousness and the observer affecting what seems to be a non-local, information substratum.
Status quo power networks traditionally reject new perceptions of reality both when new instruments extend human detection and decoding capacities (remember Galileo’s telescope and Van Leewenhoek’s use of the microscope) and when theories and underlying worldviews need to be modified to account for those detections. But this holding on at all costs to a classical preference for exclusivist materialism and mechanicism lends itself to the fallacy of trying to explain all phenomena under specific and previously accepted ad hoc explanations. Regardless of how thoroughly the scientific method has been followed, this often means trying to explain some phenomena which MAY be conventionally explained as if it necessarily follows that their explanation MUST be conventional. This is also popularly also called “dogmatism.”
But it is becoming quite acceptable for educated individuals to recognize that there indeed is an abundance of recurrent phenomena (“anomalies” from the perspective of conventional theories) unremittingly reported by credible individuals and groups around the world; phenomena which – if seriously considered – bring into question the completeness of classical materialist and mechanicist explanations. Furthermore, individuals not intimately associated with any of the major modern institutions often have the willingness and freedom to openly consider these phenomena real and significant. Some even know that their formal acceptance would logically require re-assessing known theories and suggesting alternative scientific hypotheses. Some are – thankfully – taking the lead to make this happen.
Baye’s Theorem helps us ASSESS the probability that a hypothesis among others is valid based on new experience. In the XXVIII Century Reverend Thomas Bayes tried to show how to use new evidence to update beliefs. It goes hand in hand with induction and not with a rigid, unequivocal logical deduction. Through induction, we approximately “know” that it is more likely that Earth will continue turning and that tomorrow there’ll be another sunrise, but we don’t know this with absolute certainty. Like the so-called “principle of parsimony” (or “Occam’s Razor”) Baye’s Theorem is more like a “heuristic,”which can be understood as a generalrule of thumb helping us to assess the validity or usefulness of a hypothesis. Both are “shortcuts” simply assisting us to come up with probable explanations. However, if we apply them mechanically based on wrong premises about reality they may even sidetrack us into not recognizing more feasible and obvious explanations.
Baye’s Theorem requires having several hypotheses at hand in order to compare them. It is structured to help us come up with an approximate probability and it states that The Probability of an Hypothesis Explaining the New Results= The Probability of Obtaining the New Results if the Hypothesis is True ÷ The Probability of Getting the New Results Whether the Hypothesis is True or Not. Then, multiply that division by The Probability of the Hypothesis Before Considering the New Results.
Just like Baye’s Theorem is a practical recommendation attempting to approximately give us a clue on the probability of the validity of an hypothesis by also considering several competing hypotheses in light of new information regarding phenomena, “Occam’s Razor” is not like a physical principle or a principle set in stone as an unfailing rule. The latter (re-stated by several philosophers following Aristotelian thinking but also more associated with theologian, nominalist philosopher and Franciscan friar William of Occam) basically states: “entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity.” To my understanding, this means that when an explanation is sufficient to explain a phenomenon, it is not recommended to seek a greater number of alternative explanations. However, in the case of phenomena challenging conventional explanations, the question would also be if all possible “sufficient explanations” rest upon a classical materialist-mechanicist worldview or, in effect, that the most straightforward and sufficient explanation would be a hypothesis that better fits or corresponds with the facts, however challenging.
Another way of stating “Occam’s Razor” is that it is generally preferable not to assume more hypothesis as causes than the minimum necessary to explain a phenomenon. Said differently, trying to extend the materialist and mechanicist worldviews (and paradigms) in convoluted ways in order to reductionistically explain (or to explain away) the experiential facts and “anomalous” data gathered around the UFO Phenomenon, may actually be not following Aristotle’s and Occam’s recommendation but instead doing just the opposite. While exclusivist materialism is clearly incorrect and insufficient, materialism in itself may be correct but only as an integral part of a network of metaphysical positions, each explaining “reality” from a different angle and all of them arising from a deeper pattern. We will need to understand that “deeper pattern” in order to make sense of phenomena that objectively combine subjective and psychic aspects altering conventional physical life.
Once again, these “heuristics” are basically recommendations generally useful on how to proceed to choose among various hypotheses that might explain a phenomenon. Moreover, unfortunately “Occam’s Razor” has often been misunderstood by closed-minded skeptics (normally defending conventional theories associated with materialism and mechanicism) in their blindly dogmatic search for every which way to ridicule or dismiss evidence pointing toward the “extraterrestrial hypothesis” (or variations within that hypothesis) pertaining to some of the most ‘anomalous’ aspects of the UFO phenomenon.
There’s still another recommendation that can be considered as a useful heuristic. It is the advice to avoid Type Two Errors. In statistics, a null hypothesis is a hypothesis one tries to cancel out by using evidence to the contrary. In statistical hypothesis testing, a Type II Error (or Error of the Second Kind) is the failure to reject a FALSE null hypothesis. In other words, it is a failure to detect some aspect of reality that is suggested by the statistical evidence. This becomes a useful heuristic to think about any accepted percentage of truly unconventional UFO cases.
The concept that “UFO’s are nothing but natural phenomena or phenomena that can be explained by conventional science” would be a false null hypothesis that has not been invalidated based on the best UFO evidence and statistics. This is because the evidence and statistics clearly also suggest that something truly distinct and quite possibly anomalous is going on. Fixated UFO debunkers (and debunkers of the reasonable likelihood of there being genuine “experiencers” interacting with a variety of intelligent extraterrestrial beings which may be able to manipulate spacetime in unconventional ways) are clearly committing a Type Two Error or Error of the Second Kind.
The relevant and scientifically honest (and highly relevant for humanity) situation here is that the “extraterrestrial hypothesis” or ETH (ifnot limited to a “nuts & bolts” approach) may well be the MOST STRAIGHTFORWARD HYPOTHESIS OR EXPLANATION. In general this hypothesis is not discarded within some foreign governments and Air Force teams researching “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” or “Anomalous Aerial Phenomena” (like the Chilean CEFAA or Committee for the Studies of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena functioning under the General Secretary of the DGCA (the Ministerial Department of Civil Aeronautics), itself under the jurisdiction of the Chilean Air Force).
The initial (often not quoted) step in the “scientific method” is observation of a phenomenon in the natural world. While individual testimony of an anomaly in a non-controlled setting may be considered a weak piece of evidence, the fact that thousands upon thousands (including some astronomers) have observed and reported UFOs that resist conventional explanations can be considered part of the initial step. Today, besides these individual testimonies (given to civilian and military institutions) there have been a few scientifically conducted surveys (like the anonymous international survey Edgar Mitchell Foundation for Research on Extraterrestrial and Extraordinary Encounters). As witness testimony goes, the latter is stronger from a natural science point of view. However, besides witness testimony, after-the-event analysis of photographs, radar cases, landing traces with soil modification and other forms of “physical evidence” also accumulate in favor of the “Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (ETH).”
The ETH hypothesis is neither discarded beforehand (for instance by introducing pre-conceived conclusions into the premises) by the high-level military and scientific French GEIPAN (Study Group and Information on Non-Identified Aerospace Phenomenon) analysts working under the jurisdiction of CNES (the National Center for Space Studies) who in 1999 produced the so-called “COMETAReport.” Likewise, this reasonable hypothesis is endorsed by the “Sigma/3AF Commission” of the Aeronautical & Astronomical Association of France. In fact, given the evidence available, the ETH cannot be reasonably discarded in advance without incurring dishonesty. Sigma/3AF considers the ETH valid and plausible. They are scientists and are being reasonable – rather than dogmatic – based on a rational analysis of UAP/UFO cases.
Moreover, it might be possible to improve “after-the-fact ufology” by propitiating field experiments that interact with the phenomenon. If consciousness (besides objectivity) is a key ingredient for their success, so be it. The science-based ufologist expanding his or her methods would learn to work with this.
Interactive field experiments using instruments and live empirical observation to test hypothesis might be achievable with the assistance of CE-5 approaches, “prime contactees,” adequate preparation, equanimity and fearlessness and – above all – a respectful attitude of any intelligences behind the phenomenon as well as experiencer-contact processes that involve consciousness, group effort, feelings and ideologies. Through this “experimental ufology” we may complete the steps of the scientific method pursuant genuine UFOs: Observation of a phenomenon, gathering information about what is known about it, proposing a reasonable hypothesis to explain the phenomenon, testing the hypothesis, analyzing the results, concluding if they verify the hypothesis or not, sharing the method, results, and conclusions with other scientists, replicating the research and – eventually – modifying theory.
Humanity needs its academic, religious and political leaders to come to terms with the fact that the ETH is a reasonable and rational perspective backed-up by the finest inductively-derived, independently assessed and cross-tabulated evidence gathered by sincere, mentally sound, capable and reputable UFO researchers across several decades; by some courageous and honest scientists, a good number of political, military and intelligence community whistleblowers and witnesses and by thousands of individuals from around the world (individuals who for the most part don’t do it for personal gain but who, instead, oftentimes face ridicule from peers in the name of truth).
This evidence also includes, highly trained witnesses capable of recognizing a variety of flying objects, alleged landings leaving anomalous and analyzed physical signatures, clear visual, radar and radar-visual sightings, military intercept missions; photographic and film analyses passing adequate tests, the analysis of a few solid objects with highly anomalous characteristics (such as those which podiatric surgeon Roger K. Leir collected from alleged abductee-experiencers) and leaked or formerly classified government documents that indicate longstanding, official interest in “flying discs,” “flying saucers” or “UFO anomalies.”
Moreover, after thousands upon thousands of psychologically healthy and socially functional “citizen-experiencers” reporting intelligent physical interactions with otherworldly extraterrestrial beings; after metallic-looking disc-shaped, triangular-shaped, sphere-shaped and tubular-shaped objects have been reported zigzagging and departing in abrupt ways defying momentum and inertia (sometimes after apparently interacting with witnesses for instance by responding with right-angle formations) the lack of formal academic investigation onto what may be going on (at least from a social and psychological perspective) is a failure against modern, humanistic, democratic and scientific ideals.
It simply looks as if FEAR and personal convenience got the upper hand in the innards of modern academic and political institutions since facing the facts would probably challenge the premises those institutions are based in and thus internal social forces arise to prevent individuals from stepping out of line. To this we must add possible private interests to take advantage of technological developments besides the national security need to maintain a possible advanced technology out of reach from enemies; something which can be overdone and – once a vast secret apparatus around this issues has been established – it becomes increasingly difficult to eventually inform civilians as time passes by. Perhaps many unconstitutional actions were taken throughout the decades at least since 1947, especially if taboo, ridicule and a highly classified secrecy did not allow for the application of constitutional supervision or checks and balances.
Nonetheless, theforces of social control (among them ridicule), or even active repression and suppression cannot forever hold back the truth in order to sustain the status quo or an outmoded way of thinking, especially if the intermittent and phenomenon were to be interactive and clearly related with human interests.
In relation to UFOs, for the Principle of Parsimony (a.k.a. “Occam’s Razor”) multiplying explanations to uphold the materialist-mechanicist premises may not be the way to arrive at a “sufficient explanation.” Then, Baye’s Theorem asks us to compare several hypotheses and not to discard any plausible one offhand. Finally, the advice to avoid Type Two Errorsor Errors of the Second Kind (the failure to detect some aspect of reality which is suggested by the statistical evidence) also reminds us to become aware of our blinding cognitive biases when the evidence is displayed before us within a complex phenomenon. I wonder how many “Close Encounters of the Second Kind” interesting pieces of unique evidence (as described by J. Allen Hynek’s six-fold classification scale for UFO encounters) have been so dismissed…
All of these HEURISTICS basically warn us against inflexibly holding on to our conventional ‘pet’ theories. In relation to truly anomalous UFOs and in the offing human-extraterrestrial interactive encounters we seriously need to change our premises and face the facts.
To conclude, the three heuristics mentioned are not inimical with the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (ETH) and, what is more, an intelligent use of them clearly suggests that the ETH MUST be seriously considered. It is a matter of time before good old common sense prevails as the need to adapt to reality has the real final say with its own complex (emergent and self-organizing) ways to assert itself.
These days on Hawaii's Big Island, there's plenty going on above the surface to keep a host of scientists occupied, due to Kilauea's month-long and sometimes rapidly changing eruption. But soon, there will be a few more scientists focused on the island—although they'll be looking to understand a much more alien phenomenon than lava.
NASA scientists are spending research seasons this year and next piloting a submersible vessel off the coast of the Big Island to explore Lo'ihi, the still-underwater volcano that will thousands of years from now become the newest island in the Hawaiian chain.
They hope the life they find there will help them learn what to look for in a similar but much less accessible environment—like that trapped under the icy surface of Saturn's moon Enceladus. It's one of astrobiologists' most intriguing candidates for finding life beyond Earth.
Although scientists studied the moon in a fair amount of detail with the Cassini mission that ended last fall, it will be quite a while before they'll get another chance to look at Enceladus up close.
Saturn's moon Enceladus is covered by an icy shell that hides a global ocean that could hold life.
NASA/JPL-CALTECH/SPACE SCIENCE INSTITUTE
The soonest such a mission could launch is the mid 2020s, and that doesn't even include travel time. It's a long time to sit around dreaming of distant microbiology.
So in the meantime, scientists are headed to Hawaii with a NASA project called Systematic Underwater Biogeochemical Science and Exploration Analog or SUBSEA. The project will let the scientists send a robotic drone to explore hot springs bubbling up about 3,000 feet below the ocean's surface.
In particular, they want to better understand temperature and pressure conditions found around these springs. They'll also look at which microbes are present and how they come together to build communities.
The project has a second goal as well: to help scientists practice working far away from their experiments, as they do with robots working on the Moon and Mars. So next year, to spice things up a little, NASA will artificially lag communication to and from the submersible while it works at a second destination.
That way, when a real Enceladus mission comes along, scientists will be ready to tackle whatever mysteries the moon throws at them.
Thanks to recent advances in medical technologies, the human brain has become one of the great frontiers of modern science. Brain scanning devices, artificial intelligence networks, and experimental wearables are allowing qualified scientists and amateur “biohackers” alike to begin tampering with the mysteries of the human mind and unlocking hidden human cognitive potential. We might soon find ourselves in a future where the human brain itself becomes just another dataset to be manipulated, uploaded, and stored like any other digital data.
It turns out, though, that the human body might be home to another ‘brain’ entirely, one involved with one of the most important things we do each day. Well, each day for many of us, anyway. Eat your fiber, folks. According to a press release from neuroscientists at Flinders University in Adelaide, the human gastrointestinal tract houses a system of millions of neurons which control the rhythmic muscle contractions which help waste travel through the digestive system.
Nick Spencer, one of the scientists behind the study of this “second brain” published in The Journal of Neuroscience, says“these findings identify a previously unknown pattern of neuronal activity in the peripheral nervous system,” making the gastrointestinal tract “the only internal organ with its own complete nervous system that can operate totally independently of the brain and/or spinal cord.” Spencer and his colleagues even suggesting that this “second brain” might be actually the “first” human brain because it likely evolved before the central nervous system. That is, humans were able to produce bowel movements long before we were able to think about producing bowel movements.
Assidere, ergo sum
The enteric nervous system, as the “second brain” is known, has been known to science for some time, but this study is the first to identify this neuronal activity. While far from discovering an actual second brain, this research does reveal that there are still far more mysteries hiding within the human body and mind than we likely realize. What secrets will the neuroscientists of the future be able to unlock?
Video grab of underground work in progress at a Walmart store. (Youtube)Youtube
Residents in the United States have been reporting some strange underground booms for the past few months, and now, UFO researcher Tyler Glockner has come up with an explanation for the strange phenomenon.
The researcher in a video shared on his YouTube channel 'Secureteam10' said the booms could be due to the secret underground tunneling project under progress.
Tyler Glockner said something really sinister may be happening underground and it could be the handiwork of the elites with the help of government agencies who might be preparing for a nuclear apocalypse. The conspiracy theorist also suggested that these underground tunnels are being made to connect supermarket stores like Walmart so people can survive the doomsday with access to food.
"These massive booms might be linked to an underground tunneling system and your local Walmart store. The theory is that these massive tunnels built underground are all connected to a store. Just think, if something ever did happen, you will have these massive tunnels below the surface which link to these stores that could easily be converted to camps," said Tyler Glockner in the video.
As the video went viral on the Internet, several theories have surfaced to explain the weird booms.
"It is not a wild theory. My local Super-Walmart had construction going on for 2 years on the northwest side of its store. When they were done, nothing changed on the outside or inside of the store. Not even the parking lot changed. There were large storage containers randomly around the construction site that seemed to serve no purpose, other than to hide their work," commented one 'Earl's Daughter' on Youtube.
Some conspiracy theorists believe that these tunnels may have a connection to the secret underground base at the Denver airport so the elites can easily save their lives during the times of an apocalypse. They even claim that there is a secret railway line too, running between the White House and the Denver Airport.
NASA’s front man admits the existence of Area 51 and extraterrestrial life
NASA’s front man admits the existence of Area 51 and extraterrestrial life
The front of NASA verified the fact that there is extraterrestrial life, but aliens are not secluded in Area 51.
NASA administrator, Major Charles Bolden, told British schoolchildren that he believes scientists could find life outside the borders of Earth.
He was asked by a 10 year old girl if he believes in aliens and he replied that he does believe in the fact that humankind is able to find another form of life outside our solar system.
He said: “Today we know that there are literally thousands, if not millions of other planets, many of which may be very similar to our own earth. So some of us, many of us believe that we’re going to find evidence that there is life elsewhere in the universe.”
Major Bolden also confessed Area 51 truly exists, but that it is not the location where US government hides aliens. Instead, he described this area as a place for research and advancement only.
Area 51 was always a place that was kept as a secret, even though everyone knew about it, and fed the creativity of conspiracy theorists and UFO believers all around the world.
The Central Intelligence Agency in 2013 declared the precise area in Nevada, near Groom Lake, in the records discharged as a part of a Freedom of Information request.
There records portray how this place was used in the Second World War as aeronautical artillery for the Army Air Corp pilots.
Later, President Dwight Eisenhower approved this segment of wilderness, known by its map classification as Area 51, to the Atomic Energy Commissions Nevada test site and training range.
Major Bolden also cited that one of the reasons why men haven’t stepped foot on Mars is the deficiency of suitable toilet facilities.
NASA has its hopes for finally sending humans to Mars in 2030 if they manage to beat their technological barriers.
However, their objective is not landing, but doing orbital mission like the first time they went to the Moon. The arguments justifying this are that they have to get ready the Martian surface for human residence first.
“We’re not going to send humans down to the surface of Mars to build the habitats, the houses; we’re probably going to use robots.
“Our technical abilities are not what we want it to be now. We need better life support systems, we need a toilet that’s not going to break on the way there, then when we get to the Martian surface we need (a toilet) that’s going to work over and over again. Toilets are a big deal.” – said Mr. Bolden.
Mr. Bolden also talked about the conspiracy theories which say the famous Moon landing was a hoax. He said that it’s understandable people to have lack of faith, but he, himself, doesn’t have doubts that they really went there and that they are going to go Mars in short time too.
AETHER—THE PURE ESSENCE THAT THE GODS BREATHE, AND THE FIFTH COSMIC ELEMENT
AETHER—THE PURE ESSENCE THAT THE GODS BREATHE, AND THE FIFTH COSMIC ELEMENT
It was believed in ancient and medieval times that aether, also commonly spelled ether, was a mysterious material that filled the region of the cosmos above the terrestrial sphere.
It was a mysterious element, and the concept of ether was used to describe a number of natural phenomena, including light and how it traveled, as well as gravity.
What Is Aether, The Legendary Fifth Element?
It was believed in the past that aether was one of the primordial elements of the cosmos. In fact, in the late nineteenth century, scientists postulated that aether permeated all throughout space, allowing a medium through which light traveled in the vacuum.
However, later experiments failed to prove this.
In ancient Greek mythology, Ether was referred to as the pure essence that the gods breathed, filling the space where they lived, analogous to the air breathed by mortals.
Plato makes mention of Aether in his work as well.
If we take a look at Timaeus—where Plato mentions the existence of Atlantis—the Greek philosopher speaks about air and explains that “there is the most translucent kind which is called by the name of aether (αίθηρ)”
The term appears both in Aristotelian physics and in the old electromagnetic theory of the late nineteenth century.
For Aristotle (384-322 BC) the ether was the material of which the so-called supralunar world was composed, while the sublunary world is made up of the known four elements: earth, water, air, and fire.
Unlike these, ether was, for Aristotle, a more subtle and lighter element, more perfect than the other four (Aristotle’s physics is qualitative, rather than quantitative) and, above all, its natural movement is circular, unlike the natural movement of the other four, which is rectilinear.
The element was also mentioned in Ancient Hindu philosophy.
In India, the ether is known as akasha. In Sankhya cosmology, the pañcha mahā bhūta (five main elements) is spoken of, each one eight times more subtle than the previous one: Earth (bhumi) Water (apu). Fire (agní). Air (vāyu). Ether (ākāśa). Samkhya or Sankhya is one of the six āstikaschools of Hindu philosophy, mostly related to the Yoga school of Hinduism.
Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest minds to ever live on Earth, also made reference to Aether saying: “All matter comes from a primary substance, the luminiferous ether”.
It was widely disseminated in China and India, where it forms the basis of both Buddhism and Hinduism.
During the Middle Ages the term aether, precisely because it is the fifth material element recognized by Aristotle, began to be called the fifth element, or also qüinta essentia, from which comes the expression quintessence (used in the current cosmology to refer to dark energy).
Aether was also heavily connected to Gravitation.
In fact, it was used in one of Sir Isaac Newton’s first published theories of gravitation, called the Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (the Principia). In his work, Sir Isaac Newton based the entire description of planetary motion on a theoretical law of dynamic interactions. As noted in “Newton’s views on Aether and Gravitation,” Newton renounced standing attempts at accounting for this particular form of interaction between distant bodies by introducing a mechanism of propagation through an intervening medium and called this intervening medium the Aether.
In addition, Newton describes aether as a medium that “flows” continually downward toward the Earth’s surface and is partially absorbed and partially diffused. This “circulation” of aether is what he associated the force of gravity with to help explain the action of gravity in a non-mechanical fashion.
RUN, BIRD, RUN Birds most likely to have survived a mass extinction 66 million years ago would have been small (as seen in this artist’s depiction), able to fly and just fine living on the ground, researchers say.
PHILLIP M. KRZEMINSKI
Nothing against trees. But maybe it’s better not to get too dependent on them if you want to survive a big flaming space object crashing into Earth.
The asteroid impact that caused a mass extinction 66 million years probably also triggered the collapse of forests worldwide, a new investigation of the plant fossil record concludes. Needing trees and extensive plant cover for nesting or food could have been a fatal drawback for winged dinosaurs, including some ancient birds. Reconstructing the ecology of ancient birds suggests that modern fowl descended from species that survived because they could live on the ground, an international research team proposes in the June 4 Current Biology.
“You probably would have died anyway regardless of habitat,” says study coauthor Daniel Field, an evolutionary paleobiologist at the University of Bath in England. “But if you could get along on the ground, you at least had a shot at surviving across this devastated landscape.”
The shock wave from the strike probably flattened trees within a radius of 1,500 kilometers, Field says. Wildfires ignited around the planet and then came the acid rain. Clouds of ash and dust may have darkened the sky for several years, and researchers suspect that photosynthesis waned. Yet some lucky birds, but no other dinosaurs, survived the hellscape.
For clues to what made a survivor, researchers turned to fossilized pollen from before and after the fiery impact. Abundant kinds of flower-bearing and cone-bearing plants left pollen just before the asteroid hit and again starting about a thousand years afterward. In between those times of diversity, however, ferns dominated, the team notes. A kind of “disaster flora,” ferns (making spores instead of flowers and seeds) do well at recolonizing land. Seed plants, however, weren’t thriving.
Analyzing evolutionary histories of modern birds supports the idea of tree dependence as a vulnerability for the earliest fowl, the researchers say. Specialists in bird evolution now generally agree on the lowest, oldest branches of the bird family tree, Field says. The bottommost one, for instance, includes such modern species as ground-dwelling ostriches and smaller, flight-capable birds called tinamous, which might be more like the ancient birds that dodged extinction.
Working backward along these low branches, researchers used fossils and known bird traits to reconstruct the most likely lifestyles of the earliest survivors. These probably weren’t tree-dependent birds, the researchers conclude.
The glory days of dinosaurs had had plenty of flying tree-dwellers. So far, paleontologists have identified at least 80 kinds of what are called “opposite birds,” the Enantiornithes (SN: 2/4/17, p. 26). “If you saw one flying around today, you’d say, ‘Well, that’s a bird,’ ” Field explains. Their feet looked like those of birds that perch on tree limbs, so he’s not surprised that a fossil of an opposite bird from this probably arboreal group has never been found in rock formed after the dino doomsday.
What did happen, however, was that when trees and forests came back after the disaster, birds quickly evolved arboreal lifestyles, the team says.
Many people don’t realize that birds almost died off during the mass extinction, too, says paleontologist Stephen Brusatte of the University of Edinburgh who has studied bird evolution but was not involved in the new study. What let the few survivors squeak through, he says, has been a mystery for a long time. The whole scenario of a ground-dweller’s advantage and then a return to the trees “makes a lot of intuitive sense.”

HIDDEN WORLD UNDER ANTARCTICA REVEALED: SCIENTISTS FIND A WORLD THEY’VE NEVER IMAGINED
HIDDEN WORLD UNDER ANTARCTICA REVEALED: SCIENTISTS FIND A WORLD THEY’VE NEVER IMAGINED
The Discovery has been published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.
Despite the fact that satellites orbiting earth have helped map our planet’s surface in great detail, there was a gap around an area of the South Pole, which is not covered by satellites due to the inclination of their orbits.
Now, scientists have finally revealed what is there, and it comes as a surprise.
Scientists exploring Antarctica have found massive mountain ranges and vast canyons that run for hundreds of miles beneath the continents thick ice.
Hidden beneath south Antarctica, researchers used ice-penetrating radar to discover massive canyons cutting through three expansive subterranean mountain ranges under the Antarctic ice shelf.
Although there is extensive satellite data that helps obtain images of the surface of the Earth and its deep interior, there was a gap around the area of the South Pole, which is not covered by satellites due to the inclination of the orbits.
Therefore, the PolarGAP project was designed to fill the gap in the coverage of satellite data from the South Pole and, in particular, to acquire the missing data reports the British Antarctic Survey, which participated in the research.
Scientists warn as global warming advances, these massive valleys could play an important role in the flow of the ice.
“As there were gaps in satellite data around the South Pole, no one knew exactly what was there,” said Dr. Kate Winter, lead author of the study and a Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellow in Northumbria University’s Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences.
“We now understand that the mountainous region is preventing ice from East Antarctica flowing through West Antarctica to the coast. In addition, we have also discovered three subglacial valleys in West Antarctica which could be important in the future.
“If the ice sheet thins or retreats, these topographically-controlled corridors could facilitate an enhanced flow of ice further inland and could lead to the West Antarctic ice divide moving. This would, in turn, increase the speed and rate at which ice flows out from the center of Antarctica to its edges, leading to an increase in global sea levels.”
Dr. Winter adds: “The data we have gathered will enable ice sheet modelers to predict what will happen if the ice sheet thins, which will mean we can start to answer the questions we couldn’t answer before.”
The mission marked the first time scientists were able to map three vast subglacial valleys in West Antarctica. The largest valley, known as Foundation Trough, is more than 350 kilometers long and 35 kilometers wide. Its length is equivalent to the distance from London to Manchester, while its width equals more than one and a half times the length of the island of Manhattan in New York.
Two of the remaining valleys are equally vast. The Patuxent canal is more than 300 kilometers long and more than 15 wide, while the Offset Rift Basin is 150 long and 30 wide.
Scientists warn that if climate change causes the ice sheet to be reduced, these valleys could increase the speed at which ice flows from the center of Antarctica to the sea, raising global sea levels.
This Remarkable New Crop Circle Formation Just Appeared
This Remarkable New Crop Circle Formation Just Appeared
This remarkable Crop Circle was just reported and documented in Buckland Down, Nr Cerne Abbas, Dorset on 26th May 2018. The new formation is visually stunning and incredibly precise!
*A great many thanks to Roy Leraand, who seems to be the person who uploaded in 2013 images 2, 3 & 4, you see above, which are now probably one of the best photos we have to this day of the original Crabwood crop circle. For more pictures of this formation, look here.
I. Introduction
The Crabwood crop circle is a crop circle design that appeared in a field near a communication tower in the area of Winchester, near Crab Wood, England, on the morning of 15 August 2002, featuring a face of a being from the type "grey" and a coded message (accompanying the image) in a CD format. Nobody claimed ownership over the work at the time. Lucy Pringle - a well known crop circle researcher, did an amazing job in documenting the case.
This crop circle is probably one of the most interesting such because it is one of the very few formations that contain an actual clear & direct message embodied in them. Another example of such crop circle, containing a clear & direct message, would be the Chilbolton crop circle.
II. Basis
No matter how many pictures and how good images have been taken by researchers at that time when the formation appeared, there are in reality very few pictures of the Crabwood crop circle with high resolution on the internet. If this crop pattern is a serious communication from a serious instance with a serious message, it is crucial that we know exactly what the communication contains and have all the details about it. The back-engineered images you will see here are meant to set a record of the results of a rigorous & precise examination of both the image and the message of this crop pattern based on the documentation available and are meant to offer to some degree a better quality of view and to possibly show in more details the crop circle itself, for this crop circle is everything but a simple one and it is probably not out of place to say that all details it contains matter for one reason or another.
III. Research
- From the summer of 1952 until the summer of 2002 there are exactly 50 years – Q: What happened in the summer of 1952? A: The UFO lights over Washington, USA.
- From 1942 until 2002 there are exactly 60 years – Q: What happened in 1942? A: The event known as “The battle over Los Angeles”.
- Between 2002 and 2012 there are exactly 10 years.
- It seems that there is actually no bell sound at the end of the Crabwood message and that the “bell sound” mentioned by some previous crop circle reporters (included at the end of the Crabwood message) is very very possibly a misdecoding of the last “dot” finishing the last sentence of the message. Investigation on this issue is advised for everyone, who might have some doubts about the results of this research.

THE BACK-ENGINEERED IMAGES OF THE CRABWOOD CROP CIRCLE (v.10.2015):
V. Notes
Note: Be aware that the decoded message in English letters and the restored image with it, together, are as accurately investigated as it is possible based on the documentation available and are quite possibly the most accurate back-engineered pieces of information that one can find around regarding the Crabwood crop circle. Anyway, hereby it is acknowledged, that even so, the restored pictures are not absolutely 1 to 1 equals to the original image and it is known that there are still some imperfections between the original image and the digitally enhanced image. If you believe you can do a better job in fixing those imperfections, you are free to build upon this work by following the Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). Perhaps it is also not a bad idea for you to check everything out for yourself, if you have doubts regarding the results of this research.
As an author of the back-engineered pictures, I can submit clearly my position, that in the process of restoration of the Crabwood image, I convinced myself that this crop circle is made with the help of a more complex piece of technology than with the help of ropes, planks of wood and measuring tools. Based on the lack of evidences, we can only speculate, as to whom this technology belongs to, or who, or what was involved in the creation of this formation. Ultimately, the complexity of this crop pattern is forcing us to consider its message & its implications much more seriously.
