Local residents spotted UFO on same day pilots reported flying object sighting in Ireland
Local residents spotted UFO on same day pilots reported flying object sighting in Ireland
Local residents have spotted bizarre unidentified flying objects (UFO) on the same day pilots spotted bright lights travelling across the skies in Ireland.
As the Irish Aviation Authority is investigating the unusual sightings of bright lights and UFOs reported by three commercial aircraft pilots, fresh reports of UFO sightings on the same day have now surfaced online. Popular conspiracy theory website 'Disclose.tv' has recently released an eerie clip that shows two bright lights hovering in the skies, and they claim that these visuals were shot in Northern Ireland, on the same day pilots spotted high-speeding bizarre objects.
In their website post titled 'Actual Footage Of The Ireland UFO Encounter', Disclose.tv reveals that the new sighting does correspond with one pilot's comment that there were two objects speeding in the skies.
"Dash-cam footage was uploaded by dash-cam by Sandy Laverty in Coleraine. Looks like a bolide to me. It does correspond with the one pilot's comment that there were two objects. However, that could be a coincidence," wrote Disclose.tv on their website.
The video soon went viral, and it has already racked up more than 18,500 views. As the video became popular, conspiracy theorists soon jumped to the conclusion that alien life is a reality, and made it clear that extraterrestrial beings from advanced civilizations used to visit earth to monitor our activities.
It was on November 09 that a British pilot initially spotted a flying object and contacted Shannon Air Traffic Control to know whether there are any military exercises going on. The air traffic control soon informed the pilot that there were no such activities in and around the area.
As per the testimonial from the British pilot, the object spotted in the skies initially come up along the left side of the aircraft before it rapidly moved to the North at a very high acceleration. The pilot also revealed that the UFO spotted in the skies had bright lights on its body.
Another pilot who witnessed this sighting revealed that the UFO was travelling at twice the speed of the sound.
However, some experts argue that the objects spotted by the pilots could be a meteor or asteroid. But adamant conspiracy theorists believe that a meteor will never change its trajectory like the object did while trailing the aircraft.
The truth is out there: was Kerry UFO really a meteor?

Astronomy and aviation experts now think that a UFO spotted over Kerry by three airline pilots might have been a meteor falling to earth.
Following the twin Star Wars movie shoots in south and west Kerry, the county is no stranger to 'extraterrestrial' visitors but something far more unusual unfolded high above the Kingdom in the early hours of last Friday morning.
The bizarre incident began at 6.47am on Friday as a British Airways flight from Montreal to Heathrow passed over Kerry.
As the 787 jet flew across the county, an extremely fast moving bright object appeared to the left of the plane.
This led the startled pilot to contact Shannon Air Traffic Control (ATC) to ask if there were any military exercises taking place in the area.
A recording of their exchange was released on Friday.
Shannon ATC said that there were no exercises taking place and that there was "nothing showing on either primary or secondary radar".
The BA pilot, who sounds taken aback by what she had seen, responds and describes what she had just observed.
"Ok. It was moving so fast" she said, adding that the "very bright light" came up along the left of the airliner then "rapidly veered to the north and disappeared at a very high speed".
The unidentified object was also spotted by two other airliners which were flying just off the Kerry coast. They also contacted Shannon ATC to report their sightings.
A Virgin Airlines pilot described seeing multiple "very bright objects following the same trajectory" that then climbed away at a high speed.
The third pilot, on a Norwegian Airlines plane, reported a bright object travelling at an "astronomical" speed.
One of the stunned pilots, who was part of the four way conversation with Shannon ATC, expressed relief that he wasn't imagining things.
"I'm glad it wasn't just me" he said.
The Irish Aviation Authority issued a statement confirming that they have launched an investigation into an incident of "unusual air activity" which the body said had been reported by "a small number of aircraft".
While alleged UFO sightings are common - particularly in the United States - what makes this incident so unusual is that the UFO was spotted by three flight crews and reported separately by three highly experienced commercial airline pilots.
In the wake of the sighting, several leading international astronomy and aviation experts have argued that the UFO was, in all likelihood, a meteor that was burning up after it entered Earth's atmosphere.
This has been contested by hundreds of UFO enthusiasts - posting on various internet forums and websites - who argue that the pilots' description of the UFO changing course and "veering" or "climbing" away at high speed rules out the possibility of a meteor.
The explanation for Friday's remarkable sighting is something we will likely never know. Keep watching those skies.
If witnessing unidentified flying objects over your home isn’t frightening enough, imagine seeing them during two consecutive nights. This is exactly what happened toSt. Helens resident Michelle Gabrielliwho documented the UFOs with pictures and a video.
She claimed that she saw at least fifteen odd looking lights in the sky that were flying apart before joining back together. While skeptics believe that the lights could have been either planes flying to the Portland airport or even several drones lighting up the night sky, Gabrielli isn’t quite sure as to what she witnessed. “I don’t know what that was last night,” she explained. “I don’t know. I can only speculate…it’s an unidentified flying object…that we didn’t do.”
It’s very possible that what she saw was indeed something of alien origin, as Oregon is ranked second in the United States for the most reported UFO sightings. In fact, Portland has the highest number of UFO sightings in the entire state. And since St. Helens is only around 30 miles away from Portland, the fact that Ms. Gabrielli’s claimed to have seen UFOs is definitely not unheard of. On the other hand, it’s a little odd that she only captured documentation of one flying object, so where were the other fourteen?
Michelle Gabrielli’s experience is only one of thousands of sightings around the state. According to research conducted by Oregon MUFON (Mutual UFO Network), over 2,000 UFO sightings have been reported all over the state in the last 70 years, specifically in the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s.
One of the most famous UFO sightings happened on June 25, 1947 when a pilot named Ken Arnold was flying his plane in the Pacific Northwest between Mount Rainier and Mount Adams when he witnessed “nine saucer-like aircraft flying in formation” at a height of between 9,500 and 10,000 feet and at a speed of approximately 1,200 miles per hour – faster than any aircraft on the planet. He also explained that the nine objects looked like the “tail of a Chinese kite.”
In McMinnville, Oregon on May 11, 1950, married farmers Evelyn and Paul Trent saw a hovering disc-shaped object that they were lucky enough to be able to photograph. In fact, that incident inspired McMinnville’s yearly UFO Festival which is said to be second-biggest celebration in the entire country.
Another famous sighting happened in 1959 when a police officer named Robert Dickerson was driving around Redmond, Oregon when he witnessed a huge bright object hovering over the city at an elevation of around 200 feet. He said that the object was so low that it illuminated the tops of several trees. And it wasn’t only the officer that saw the UFO. Apparently an administrator at the Redmond Airport also saw the unidentified object.
See the pictures of the McMinnville sighting here:
There have been countless UFO sightings in the Pacific Northwest over the decades, especially in Oregon. Whether there are natural explanations for the sightings such as weather balloons and drones, or if in fact cities all over the United States and around the world are being visited by aliens, one thing for certain is that the UFO craze is as strong now as it ever was. If you keep your eyes focused on the sky when you’re outside, you may just see something unexplained.

SHOCKING footage what what's claimed to be a UFO flying over Northern Ireland was captured on the same day pilots reported seeing a similar phenomenon in the Republic of Ireland.

UFO spotted in Derry
The dash-cam footage was uploaded by Sandy Laverty in Coleraine and posted by conspiracy channel Disclose.TV.
It appears to capture two strange bright objects flying across the sky, which also coincides with similar reports by the pilots.
The first sighting recorded by a British Airways pilot flying a Boeing 747 jet from Montreal to Heathrow over Kerry was at 6.47am.
UFO? The footage appears to show two objects fly across the sky (Pic: NC)
She described seeing an object coming up along the left-hand side of her aircraft before it "rapidly veered to the north".
But the dash-cam footage shows the suspected UFO at 6.44am, only minutes before.
Disclose.TV said the two sightings “could be a coincidence”, but if they are related then the UFOs must have travelled hundreds of miles in a matter of minutes.
The dash cam shows two glowing objects in the distance come into view before disappearing suddenly.
There is no footage of the initial sightings by the pilots, but audio has emerged of the pilot speaking to Air Traffic Control.
The Irish Aviation Authority has launched an investigation into the incident after the Shannon Airport Air Traffic Control unit was asked if any “military exercises” were taking place.
Terrifyingly, air traffic controllers replied saying: “There is nothing showing on either primary or secondary [radar].”
The concerned pilot replied: “OK. It was moving so fast", before adding that she was "wondering" what it could be.

The pilot goes on to describe how a bright light sped past the aircraft heading north at a “very high speed”.
After her report, another pilot from Virgin Airlines revealed that they also saw "multiple objects " which were "very bright".

Another pilot added their shock at the speed of the unidentified object, saying the acceleration was “astronomical, it was like Mach 2”.
What brand of beer do extraterrestrials drink? If you’re a fan of the movie “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial,” you might think it’s Coors, the beverage E.T. consumed a six-pack of. Of course, that was in 1982. Today, craft beers have taken over and any aliens here for a take-over might first make a stopover at a craft brewery. At least that’s what the owners of The Unknown Brewery want you to believe. They posted a picture this week of what appears to be a UFO hovering over their North Carolina facility. Did E.T. pick up another six-pack or a keg?
”Ummmm so we took a pic of a UFO last night…”
That’s the extent of the details posted on The Unknown Brewery’s Facebook page along with a picture of the alleged UFO. For skeptics who commented that it was a reflection through a car window, they pointed out that the video was taken outdoors. Surprisingly, the people standing in line, possibly waiting to get into the taproom, weren’t looking up at the UFO and the videographer didn’t point the triangle of lights out to them. If they had seen it, the fans of the brand might have recommended a spaceship-oriented brew like the Tele-Porter (a coffee porter) or the Cloudbuster (a white India pale ale).
Trying to call a UFO with beer?
“But it’s just lens reflection, mirrored about the center. You can see this by copying the lights at the top, rotating them 180 degrees, and then overlaying them on the bottom half of the image. I use a “subtract” blend mode, which makes the bright light look dark, and you can see they match exactly with the lights around the building.”
Mick West of the Metabunk.org website refused to play along and gave this explanation of how a lens reflection could be the cause, while ufoofinterest.org said simply “UFOs? Nope, massive lens flares :).” (Did they need to rub it in with a smiley?) If asked, the makers of UFO beer might wonder why the UFO wasn’t over their breweries in Boston, Massachusetts, or Windsor, Vermont.
What do they drink on the Dog Star?
Fans of Star Trek might point out that aliens wouldn’t stoop to Earth beer when they could drink Romulan ale like Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy did in the original series (for medicinal purposes only). not be over a brewery but a distillery instead. When back on Earth, Mr. Spock might make a stop at the real place known as The Federation of Beer in Vulcan, Canada, for a glass of Vulcan Ale (“The aroma consists of sweet malts, bread, apple and some grassy hops. The flavour is of mild hops upfront, sweet apple, bread, malts, nuts and an earthiness.”) Of course, Scotty and Chekov would never drink anything but Scotch and vodka, respectively, so they’d be looking for a distillery or liquor store.
Hats off to The Unknown Brewery for their great publicity stunt. Now, to take tongue out of cheek and fill the void with some Tele-Porter.
µThe mysterious object appeared as a “very bright light” that came up along the left side of the airliner before it “rapidly veered to the north”.
At first, the pilot of BA94 from Montreal to Heathrow thought she might have been looking at some kind of military aircraft.
Bright lights
But she was told there were no military exercises taking place in the area and the fast-moving object did not appear on air traffic control’s radar systems.
A second pilot, flying a Virgin Atlantic plane from Orlando to Manchester, confirmed the sighting, suggesting it might be a meteor or “another object re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere”.
He saw “two bright lights, [which] seemed to bank over to the right then climb away at speed”.
David Moore, head of Astronomy Ireland, favours the meteor theory. He told The Times he was “1,000 per cent sure” the mysterious light was a fireball, or a flaming meteorite, tumbling through the atmosphere.

One thing is certain: the truth is out there, and the Irish Aviation Authority intends to find it.
The organisation, which has launched an investigation into the 9 November sightings over Ireland’s south-west coast, has said it is unlikely that the incident involved alien life.
Yet these are simply the latest close encounters to fuel the imaginations of those who believe we are not alone.
The act of reporting a UFO sighting dates back to the 40s, with the first official account widely accepted to be that of a private pilot in 1947.
He reported seeing nine strange objects moving at speed across the state of Washington, comparing them to “saucers skipping on water”.
UFO hotline
There have been hundreds of alleged sightings – often involving unusual lights – since. Some are hoaxes, some can be explained by natural phenomena; others are seemingly genuine mysteries.
For years, people in the UK were able to report their sightings via a special Ministry of Defence (MoD) hotline.
The MoD eventually closed its dedicated UFO desk in November 2009, saying it served “no defence purpose” and was taking staff away from “more valuable defence-related activities”.
Declassified papers released by the National Archives in 2013 revealed the Ministry had logged 643 reported sightings in its final year, treble the previous year and the second-highest recorded since 1978, when there had been 750 alleged sightings.
The papers also contained reports from someone who had been “living with an alien” in Carlisle and sightings of UFOs over Stonehenge, Parliament and Blackpool Pier.
Further afield, cases such as the Roswell incident – the high-altitude weather balloon that crashed in New Mexico in 1947 and spawned a thousand conspiracy theories – show just how much interest the idea of UFOs can generate.

Television shows such as The X-Files have indulged our fascination with all things extraterrestrial and, thanks in part to social media, people are still sharing their strange encounters.
Indeed, a video of what some believe to be a UFO was recorded in Northern Ireland just minutes before the recent sightings by the two pilots.
The dashcam footage, recorded by a member of the public as they drove to work in Coleraine, showed what they described as a “bright object” shooting across the sky.
In 2014, a pilot claimed he had experienced a close encounter while flying a passenger jet at 34,000ft over Berkshire the previous year.
According to reports, the captain was so convinced that the “silver, rugby ball”-shaped object would smash into his Airbus that he ducked as it headed towards the cockpit.
The UK Airprox Board, which investigates near-misses in British airspace, said that no other aircraft had been in the vicinity at the time. It also ruled out meteorological balloons. No military radars picked up any sign of a UFO, however.
How to report a sighting
For those who think they have seen something, the British UFO Research Association is among the organisations which will analyse sightings.
The voluntary organisation, which has been running for more than 50 years, receives between five and 20 reports a week – though only a few of these remain a mystery.
“Up to 98 per cent of sightings can be explained if they are reported very quickly and with accurate information,” says national investigations co-ordinator Heather Dixon.
“We have a form on our website for people to report sightings which asks the relevant questions.
“Eighty per cent of all sightings are now photographed, [but] that doesn’t mean anything on its own – we have to have supporting information."
Dixon explains that in cases where there are photos, the UFOs can normally be explained. A low-quality photo is often the problem in more difficult cases.
Heather Dixon, of the British UFO Research Association, said it is important to be objective about all potential sightings.

She says that UFO sightings highlight how differently people can perceive and interpret something in the sky.
“If you see something and you have no way to understand what that is, you use imagery that you have downloaded over your lifetime.
“The brain has to do something to identify or make some kind of explanation for what is happening.
“So if someone has a strong belief in the subject, and the idea that there are cover-ups, then they will relate that to their sighting.”
But, she adds: “That’s not to say there aren’t mysteries.
‘You have to be objective’
“On a personal level, I am very sceptical, but I have had a handful of things happen to me – not UFO-related – that have been stranger and have made me think.
“But you have to be objective. You have to investigate and research in a meticulous way. What I have learnt is the more you learn about anything, the less you realise you know.”
For Robert Massey, deputy executive director at the Royal Astronomical Society, a meteor is the most likely culprit behind the latest sighting.
“The idea that it is something entering the Earth’s atmosphere – a meteor – is the most likely case,” he says. “It is perhaps an unusually bright one and that, I imagine, is what they have seen.”
Dr Massey adds that the speed of the object lends credence to the object being a natural one – such as a meteor – as opposed to something like debris from a satellite.
“That would also explain why it won’t be on the radar,” he explains. “Meteors are pretty high up in the Earth’s atmosphere – well above the altitude you’d expect for a commercial flight.
“There’s no reason to jump to the conclusion that it is any kind of spaceship. It will almost certainly have a more mundane explanation.
“But the thing that’s nice to take from this is that there’s an awful lot of drama in the night sky. “It just reminds us that even the things for which we do have an explanation can be pretty spectacular.”
Video of a flashing, glowing, and elongated light over Houston has been uploaded to YouTube, along with a long and detailed narration and witness description. The object had apparently been hovering in the nighttime sky for several minutes before the witness started recording:
Went outside for a smoke. Saw it and thought it was lightning. Sat back for the show, the night air was cool and sweet, and I was having a good day. But it didn't act like lightning and after five or ten minutes, I dragged my stepdad out of bed to see it. He saw it too. After a few more minutes of signaling the strange lights with various lights and flashes, he ran to get a camera. Long story short, no batteries. So he started using his phone. Once I felt we had a good amount of footage on his phone saved, I ran for my phone (Samsung S9+), it had a superior camera. But it's still grainy af. That's a little disappointing. The cameras at least picked up the flashing lights and my voice narration. The film cuts out because my camera spontaneously shut down. My fingers could have slipped, I was shaking like a leaf and you can hear how freaked out I am. The camera shut off on its own when I was at an awesome angle. It was overhead maybe a mile up, 300 yards long, moving in a slow triangle pattern and flashing. The camera picked up a strange pulsating aura of colors my eyes couldn't pick up. It responded to a halogen torch when I flashed back. It communicated. Footage lost. This is just 5 minutes from a 30 minute encounter I panicked and ran inside to make sure the video was saved. It was! I immediately uploaded it to YouTube and posted a link on my Facebook page. We went back outside to find it. It was hiding from spotlights. We flashed at it again then it pulsed and as the spotlights zeroed in, it flew off at high speeds quieter than a whisper.
Ps. I apologized to my stepdad for snapping. I was really freaked out. They are #real. We aren't alone.

"People have close encounters of the second kind," says Don Donderi, a retired McGill professor who has studied UFOs since 1965. "Pilots have reported seeing vehicles within 100 yards of them."
MARIE-FRANCE COALLIER / MONTREAL GAZETTE
Just as Harvard scientists weigh in on that massive thingamajig that zipped past the sun last year — the flat, elongated‘Oumuamua’was possibly a probe sent to Earth by “an alien civilization,” they said — British pilots flying home from Montreal have reported other UFOs off the coast of Ireland.
This time, the unidentified objects were bright lights, heading north, at “Mach 2” speed, they told air-traffic controllers.
But they might also have been extra-terrestrial vehicles, says Don Donderi, a retired McGill professor who has studied UFOs since 1965.
It wouldn’t be the first sighting, Donderi said. Some pilots have seen them up close.
“There are cases going back 50 years of pilots seeing what we call nocturnal lights,” Donderi said. “They provide some evidence that some of what people see in the sky and call UFOs are extra-terrestrial vehicles.”
A Perseid meteor flashes across the night sky above Corfe Castle in the U.K. in August.
“It was moving so fast,” the BA pilot said of the object that appeared along the left side of the aircraft “then rapidly veered to the north.”
It was “a very bright light,” she continued, that “disappeared at very high speed.”
The Virgin Airlines pilot, flying from Orlando to Manchester, reported the same thing, but described it as a “meteor or another object making some kind of re-entry.”
Whatever is was, it was enough for the Irish Aviation Authority to open an investigation under the “normal confidential occurrence investigation process.”
It was also enough for the Twittersphere, if not the stratosphere, to light up.
The news, including audio of the pilots’ conversation with Irish air traffic control, travelled across the globe, at Mach internet speed, while others turned to mockery.
“As a skeptic, I think it’s probably nothing stranger than flying leprechauns up to their usual mischief again,” said one commenter.
It was the same attitude taken by Neil DeGrasse Tyson, a renowned American astrophysicist and author, when asked to comment on the existence of extra-terrestrial UFOs. “Call me when you have a dinner invite from an alien,” he said.
But Donderi, who was a professor of psychology but now teaches a class called “UFOs: History and Reality,” says some sightings have been unnervingly detailed — and harder to dismiss.
“People have close encounters of the second kind,” Donderi said. “Pilots have reported seeing vehicles within 100 yards of them. They see an actual shape, an object suspended in the sky, hovering over them, with windows, surrounded by a luminous glow — and then it moves off abruptly.”
Some of the reports, by qualified individuals, backed up by instruments (like radar) turn out to be things humans can’t make, Donderi said.
“Machines that fly faster and manoeuvre more abruptly than (vehicles) we can make.”
He situates himself somewhere between the DeGrasse Tyson “establishment,” which denies there is any evidence of extra-terrestrial contact with Earth, and those who see in UFOs proof of the second coming.
The revelation in December of the U.S. Department of Defence’s now-defunct Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program, along with footage of pilots seemingly chasing UFOs, have bolstered Donderi’s beliefs.
Luis Elizondo, one of two Pentagon officials who resigned at the time because he felt the program was too secretive, described the objects they researched: “These aircraft — we’ll call them aircraft — are displaying characteristics that are not currently within the U.S. inventory nor in any foreign inventory that we are aware of,” he told CNN.
“Those who study it say that some of the UFOs are extra-terrestrial vehicles,” Donderi said Tuesday. “They’re here. And sometimes there’s interaction between aliens and people. There is evidence. But what it means and where we go from here, I don’t know.”
Donderi says humans find it easier to convince themselves there is no evidence, and prefer to see those affirming the existence of ETs as crazy, or seeking adventure or profit.
“If everyone realizes we’re being surveilled by extra-terrestrials who have better machinery than we do, we have a potential problem,” he said. “But any sensible person will say the first step in dealing with any problem is admitting it exists.”

The sightings of UFOs over the coast by three sets of airline pilots has led to Ireland being seen as a hotbed of alien activity.
It has emerged the crews who reported an unidentified object streaking through the skies over Co Kerry are not alone.
Dublin Live has been inundated with reports of similar sightings around the country in recent weeks.
The Irish Aviation Authority has begun an investigation into the appearance of the mysterious objects which were first spotted by a British Airways pilot early last Friday.
But at around 4.30pm the next day Donal Brady reported another strange sighting while looking towards Cork city from Bishopstown.
He said: “I don’t know what it was. I was at my friend’s house and I’d just dropped off my daughter and stepped out to have a cigarette and just noticed this thing in the sky.
“It was extremely bright, a beautiful day. At first I thought it was a high-altitude airliner reflecting in the sun.
“I observed it for a minute or two and I noticed it was stopping, hovering and moving side to side.
“It wasn’t going in a straight line and it wasn’t going away from and wasn’t coming towards me.
“Then along came this plane and it wasn’t reflecting anything and I thought that was unusual.
“That’s when I started to video it. If it was an airliner you’d expect contrails and some lights, which there weren’t.”
Mr Brady thought no more about it until it was reported pilots from British Airways, Virgin and Norwegian Air saw an unidentified object over Co Kerry just before 7am last Friday.
UFOs spotted by Laura Byrne above Wicklow Town
He added: “I watched the video again and thought it was something that might be related to that. I’m not pushing it in any shape or form, it is what it is.”
Another Irish Mirror reader sent in a video of what appears to be a UFO in Co Carlow.
Gerard Pollard said: “On the 2nd November at 8.32am I saw two lights in the sky coming from the south west, over Mount Leinster.
“I thought at first it was an airplane heading to Dublin Airport.
“Then I noticed it was going too fast for a plane. They seemed very high in the sky.µ
“I took my phone from my belt and took a photo. I enhanced the photo to my iPad and you can just see two small light dots in the sky.
“I can say these two craft were travelling at great speed, but there as no sound from them.”
Meanwhile, Laura Byrne shared pictures of three dots she spotted over Wicklow town.
The world is full of strange phenomena and one of them happens to be the UFOs. Even after 71 years since the first sighting, the UFO remains a mystery. Many believe that aliens visit our planet in flying saucers. On the other hand, some believe that it’s just a regular aircraft that somehow appears like a strange object. Some even disregard it as any kind of flying machine but consider it merely a balloon or a cloud.
Nonetheless, for the past 71 years, the UFO craze has taken the world by storm. It has provided the mainstream media and authors enough room to explore and come up with all sorts of explanations. Yet, most of us are still trying to figure out the reality behind UFOs.
So, without wasting any time let’s find out more about UFOs. Are aliens visiting us in UFOs or it’s just an interesting story created by the media?
What Is A UFO?
Though people have reported about seeing strange objects in the sky since ancient times, UFO is a rather new-age phenomenon. Basically, UFO is an acronym for Unidentified Flying Object. This particular term appeared for the first time in the 1950s. Until then the strange flying objects were referred to as Flying Saucers.
Does it ring any bell?
Yeah, that’s the term that we’re more accustomed to.
The weird flying machines were called flying saucers because of their disc- like shape. The term flying saucers for the UFOs became a trend after a US pilot Kenneth Arnold reported about seeing a saucer-like object. He was flying over the Mount Rainier when he saw it. Until the late 1940s, the flying saucer was the term that defined UFOs.
Originally, the term UFO was used for almost any strange object seen floating or flying in the sky. Whenever a pilot saw an experimental plane that couldn’t identify, he believed it to be a UFO.
Gradually, the definition and specification of UFOs got more refined. After the 1940s, the aircraft sightings believed to be from another planet were labeled as UFOs. In fact, the idea became deeply embedded that UFOs were flown by aliens. People believed that UFOs were outer-worldly vehicles.
There were many reports of people being abducted by the aliens and taken along to an unknown destination. A majority of the UFO sightings have come from pilots. In many incidents, the pilot claims to have seen a strange flying object unlike any aircraft he’s seen before.
Unidentified Flying Object or UFO as a term for flying saucers was firstly recorded in 1953. It was firstly used in a book authored by Donald Keyhoe, a famous writer and US aviator. In 1956, the term UFO formally replaced flying saucer and the credit goes to Edward Rupplet, a USAF officer.
Rupplet was responsible for investigating the strange flying objects. He believed that flying saucer wasn’t a suitable term. UFOs offered a broader description of these objects, in his opinion. Thus, this is how the world was formally introduced to the UFO phenomenon.
Pretty soon there were reports of potential UFO sightings from around the globe. So extensive was the impact that investigations were launched to study the phenomenon. The study of UFOs was officially named as Ufology in 1959 and the field experts were categorized as Ufologists in 1963.
Flying Saucers- A Brief History:
It all started from June 24, 1947. A civilian pilot Kenneth Arnold was flying over the Pacific Northwest in his private aircraft. There came a point when he realized that there was something else flying alongside his plane. As his plane closed in to the Mount Rainier, Washington, he spotted some objects. In his own words, there were “nine objects, glowing bright bluish-white.”
These 9 objects were flying quite close to his aircraft. Eight objects, claimed Arnold, were disc-shaped. The ninth one was much bigger than the rest and was shaped like a crescent. He also noted that all the objects were flying in a customary V-shaped formation at roughly 1,200miles an hour. He suspected it to be a military exercise. However, he was sure that the objects were saucer-like in shape. He hadn’t yet seen such a weirdly designed aircraft. Moreover, at the time no aircraft could fly in this formation.
While he was giving interviews to the press and at the radio station, his comment saucer was highlighted a lot. Physical description of the strange objects was, thus, associated with the term saucer since then on.
Immediately, rumor mills got activated and all sorts of theories emerged. The most popular one was that the objects were from outer space. This was regarded as a ground-breaking discovery as it indicated there was life on other planets.
However, by that time aliens weren’t specifically associated with the visitors in the strange objects. It was in the 1970s that people started speculating about the presence of aliens on UFOs. It was an era when environmental concerns were rising and the threat of a nuclear war was looming. Hence, conspiracy theorists came up with the idea of alien species visiting the earth.
By the 1990s, though, this narrative reached a new height of extremity. Not hundreds but thousands of reports about people being abducted by aliens emerged. It was believed that aliens are kidnapping humans to perform medical experiments. Even the thought of being abducted by the aliens is eerie. Isn’t it?
Who are the Sky People AKA Aliens?
Theories of aliens and ancient astronauts have remained the center of human imagination for centuries. There are many legends and artifacts from thousands of years ago that describe sightings of unidentified flying objects. Their shape, size, and characteristics do vary though. Back then, aliens were referred to as the Sky People. It was believed that the sky people come from a highly advanced civilization.
Legend has it that the first ever contact with the sky people occurred soon after the cataclysm. Theorists proclaim that this contact has occurred several times in the history of the planet. This information has been substantiated by archaeological, geological, anthropological, and paleontological data as well. Evidence suggests that there have been several cataclysms on the planet. Every time there was a change at the global level such as climate change or mass extinction, this contact occurred.
One of the legends claims that after the catastrophe, human civilization was reduced to the Stone Age. Then the sky people descended on the Earth from their spacecraft and rebuilt the civilization. Could they be aliens or just an illusion?
It is evident from many historical accounts that there are various kinds of sky people who are part of legends. These could be gods, aliens or planetary bodies like the sun, moon, stars, etc. Investigators in the TV show Ancient Aliens attempted to know the reality behind ancient gods. Their conclusion was that they were aliens.
However, this judgment lacks substance. For instance, the Greek sun god Apollo is just that- a sun god. It cannot be an alien flying through the sky in a saucer-like spaceship. Moreover, the spacecraft that many legends refer to as vimanas and flying machines, could very well be from previous civilizations on earth.
Many legends state that the spacecraft transported some of the humans to another planet during the catastrophe. This planet could be the Moon, Mars or Venus. It may also be somewhere under the sea or the earth.
There isn’t any clear indication of the reality of the sky people. So, if the accounts are true and not mere myths, then sky people might be humans who somehow built flying machines.
Most Famous UFO Sightings:
We may disregard the concept of a UFO as a mere myth or product of crazy fiction. But, the unexplainable sightings in such a large number do hint that UFOs could be for real. Some of the famous sightings are listed below.
The 1940s-50s:
Nearly 12,618 sightings were reported only between 1947 and 1969. These sightings were reported to Project Blue Book. It was the name of an ongoing UFO research project headquartered at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Out of these, about 701 still remain unidentified.
The first and probably most talked about sighting involved Kenneth Arnold who identified 9 strange flying objects in 1947. We have already discussed this incident at length earlier in the article.
The same year, on July 8 New Mexico’s public information office reported about recovering a crashed flying disc. It was recovered nearby a ranch in Roswell. The military later explained that it was the debris from an experimental observation balloon. However, critics weren’t buying this explanation. They even criticized the government for hiding the truth. It was firmly believed that an extraterrestrial aircraft was found near Roswell. They were also certain that not just the spacecraft but its occupants were also captured from the location.
In 1948, a 25-year old Kentucky Air National Guard pilot Captain Thomas Mantell died while chasing a UFO. He was an expert airman and had actively participated in the WWII as a pilot. So, it came as a surprise to many that he died in a plane crash. The two co-pilots who were flying with Mantell that fateful day couldn’t clearly explain the object they were pursuing.
In November 1953, First Lieutenant Felix E. Moncla Jr. received strange orders while he was flying. He was tasked to intercept an unidentified object. The object was tracked by the radars installed at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. As Moncla Jr. got closer to the object, his plane simply vanished from the radar. It was never found again.
The Mariana UFO Incident from 1951 is another popular case of UFO sighting. Great Falls’ pro baseball team’s manager managed to capture images of two UFOs. The spaceships were flying over Great Falls. The footages were analyzed quite extensively by the USAF and independent researchers too but they couldn’t explain it.
In 1959, a Pan American flight was traveling to San Francisco from Honolulu. The crew suddenly encountered a UFO while flying at 21,000feet over the Pacific. Pilots from two other airlines also confirmed the sighting. Reporters were later told by Captain George Wilson that there was a very bright light surrounded by smaller lights. The UFO was traveling at lightning speed.
“I’m a believer now” concluded Wilson.
1980s-90s:
In Belgium, between 1989 and 1990 a large object containing huge lights was identified by not one or two but hundreds of individuals. Those who saw the object included air traffic controllers, cops, and Air Force officials. However, their claims about seeing a UFO were rejected and the object was termed as a polystyrene fake. This was a rather hilarious logic offered to explain something witnessed by hundreds.
On July 11, 1991, Mexico City was observing an eclipse when many people saw and even recorded glimpses of a UFO.
A similar incident occurred in Belgium in 1997. It became famous as the Phoenix Lights. This particular incident was also witnessed by a multitude of people including politicians and air traffic officials. This story was featured on the National Geographic documentary titled “Secret History of UFOs” too.
The ex-governor of Arizona Fife Symington stated that he himself had witnessed the Phoenix lights.
“I suspect that, unless the Defense Department proves it otherwise, it was some form of an alien spacecraft,” said Symington.
Key Abductions:
Apart from UFO sightings, there have been countless reports about people being abducted by aliens. Travis Walton is one such abductee.
In NatGeoTV’s show Chasing UFOs the story of Walton was reported in which he claimed to have been kidnapped by aliens. He also identified witnesses who observed strange UFO activity soon after his alleged abduction.
Investigators although disagree with Walton but it’s a fact that his story remained consistent throughout the investigation, which continued for decades. This story made a sensational debut in the movie Fire in the Sky as well.
Another famous incident of abduction by aliens is that of Betty and Barney Hill. The couple was traveling to a road nearby Portsmouth, in 1961, when they believe aliens abducted them. While narrating the events, they said that a spaceship landed and they were taken inside the craft. There, they had to undergo thorough body inspection. They claim that aliens performed the inspection. This incident attracted worldwide attention and was also explored in the movie The UFO Incident.
Astronauts and UFO Sightings:
If you think that only common people have seen UFOs so far then you are mistaken. The fact is that a majority of the UFO sightings have been reported by astronauts. In 1977, Stanford University’s space science and astrophysics professor, Peter Sturrock, decided to find out the same thing. He mailed over 2,500 questionnaires to the American Astronomical Society members.
The purpose was to find out more about their experiences of UFO sightings if any. Surprisingly, out of the 1,356 responses, 62 astronomers reported about witnessing unexplainable aerial occurrences. The rate of UFO sightings witnessed by astronauts turned out to be 4.6%. This is similar to 5% of the total UFO sightings that are still unexplained. Further investigation revealed that most of the UFO observations reported by astronomers occurred at nighttime.
The article titled “Apollo Astronaut Chats About UFO, Alien Belief” published in Discovery magazine explained more about the discovery at Roswell. In the article, Apollo 14 astronaut Dr. Edgar Mitchell surprisingly admitted that the crash at Roswell involved aliens and a spacecraft. He also claimed that the Phoenix Lights was also an out-worldly event.
“Three humongous craft flew over Phoenix, very slowly in the middle of the night that clearly were not local stuff, home-grown stuff” confirmed Mitchell.
However, the government quickly came out in its defense. NASA released this statement:
“NASA does not track UFOs. NASA is not involved in any sort of cover up about alien life on this planet or anywhere in the universe.”
What Do the Experts Say?
For decades, researchers have been trying to explain the phenomenon of UFOs. However, the biggest challenge that they face in studying it closely is that these spaceships appear suddenly. For science to explain something, it is important to verify conclusions using testable evidence. UFO sightings cannot be controlled or repeated. This is why Ufology is such a challenging study.
The general public has also been fascinated by the UFOs to such an extent that any explanation from experts is quickly dismissed. Most of the explanations provided by scientists and the governments declare them as weather phenomenon or human acts. There is no substantial evidence that could justify the sightings to involve aliens, extraterrestrial, spaceships, and flying saucers.
Experts believe that there has never been any extraterrestrial visit on the planet. There are no aliens and certainly no flying saucers. But, there is so little evidence that their theories can never be backed by solid arguments. The most they do is regard the topic as off-limits.
In 2010, Dr. Michio Kaku, a well-known scientist, settled all the confusion once and for all by admitting that the UFOs are real. In his statement, he clearly said that at least 5% of the sightings are unidentified objects. These objects, added Dr. Kaku, behaved oddly and scarily.
However, a majority of scientists believe that UFOs are simply planes and clouds. These could also be celestial events like meteors or planets that sometimes appear unusually bright.
Despite investigations, some of the cases of sightings remain unexplainable to date. Scientists argue that the sightings could be of common objects that appear different in the skies. Some say that it could just be a normal balloon that appears unidentifiable high up in the air.
Final Thoughts:
It is simply not possible to dismiss thousands of UFO sightings as that of a balloon or the planet Venus. Still, a majority of the sightings are unexplainable while only a few could be regarded as manmade objects. In the past few decades, approximately millions of people have witnessed strange objects. There are pictures and videos available as well. So, can we disregard all of them and start believing that instead of a flying object, it could be a balloon?
What about the abductions? Are such incidents merely hallucinations?
Okay, hallucination can be the case once or twice but not always!
It’s been exactly 71 years since Kenneth Arnold first reported about a UFO. Science is nowhere near the truth as yet. Whether it is a secret spying project by the intelligence agencies or aliens visiting our planet, there is no clarity.
When there is doubt and mysteriousness surrounding an event, people will create theories. Despite that there isn’t any solid evidence of extraterrestrial involvement but can we completely rule it out? That’s not possible either.
So, let’s believe in the unbelievable until science gives us a credible explanation of the UFO phenomenon.
The Irish Aviation Authority is investigating a series of unexplained sightings reported by pilots flying over Ireland’s west coast last week. The incident began on Friday, November 9 when Shannon Air Traffic Control received a call from a British Airways Boeing 787 pilot flying from Montreal to Heathrow. Around 6:47 a.m. local time, the pilot radioed in to ask air traffic controllers if any military exercises were taking place at the time after he says his plane was buzzed by a “really bright light” which intercepted his plane before zooming away to the north “at a very high speed.”
Air traffic control reported nothing on radar.
Two other planes also reported witnessing similar objects in the area around the same time. Audio of those interactions between pilots and Shannon Air Traffic Control have been posted to YouTube. A nearby pilot can be heard suggesting that the objects may be meteors entering the Earth’s atmosphere, noting that multiple bright objects were following the same trajectory. A third pilot then joins in, adding “Glad it wasn’t just me.”
In response to those sightings, the Irish Aviation Authority issued the following statement to the Irish Examiner:
Following reports from a small number of aircraft on Friday 9th November of unusual air activity the IAA has filed a report. This report will be investigated under the normal confidential occurrence investigation process.
We could very well never know what it was these pilots saw given the lack of any other evidence. Still, this incident adds to the growing body of recent sightings documented by recordings between pilots and air traffic controllers. Do these suggest some type of high strangeness going on overhead, or possibly that the skies aren’t quite as friendly as they used to be?
I always tend to side with theories which pin UFO activity and anomalous sightings on military activity or new types of unknown or unmanned aircraft. Given the somewhat testy geopolitical climate of today, it could be merely that we’re getting glimpses of things to come: hypersonic and space-based warfare, governmental misdirection, and a whole lot of confused civilians on the ground.
The pilots spotted fast flying objects and bright lights in the sky
The Irish Aviation Authority is investigating reports of bright lights and UFOs off the south-west coast of Ireland.
It began at 06:47 local time on Friday 9 November when a British Airways pilot contacted Shannon air traffic control.
She wanted to know if there were military exercises in the area because there was something "moving so fast".
The air traffic controller said there were no such exercises.
The pilot, flying from the Canadian city of Montreal to Heathrow, said there was a "very bright light" and the object had come up along the left side of the aircraft before it "rapidly veered to the north".
She was wondering what it could be but said it did not seem to be heading for a collision.
Another pilot from a Virgin plane joined in and suggested it might be a meteor or another object re-entering the earth's atmosphere.

He said there were "multiple objects following the same sort of trajectory" and that they were very bright.
The pilot said he saw "two bright lights" over to the right which climbed away at speed.
One pilot said the speed was "astronomical, it was like Mach 2" - which is twice the speed of sound.
What could it have been?
Apostolos Christou, an astronomer from the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium, said what the pilots saw was probably a piece of dust entering the earth's atmosphere at very high speed.
"It was most likely what are commonly called shooting stars," he said.
"It appears the matter was extremely bright so it must have been quite a large piece of material.
"I cannot say from the pilots' description, but it could have been the size of a walnut or an apple."

The astronomer said November tended to be a very busy month for such activity.
"It also appears there were bits coming off the object and flying past the aeroplane, that is also what you would expect if it was a particularly large rock from space hitting the atmosphere, it would tend to fragment."
"Following reports from a small number of aircraft on Friday 9 November of unusual air activity the IAA has filed a report," the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) said.
"This report will be investigated under the normal confidential occurrence investigation process."
A spokesperson for Shannon Airport said it would not be appropriate for the airport to comment while the IAA investigation is ongoing.
When it comes to the matter of UFOs, there’s one question that I get asked more than any other. Namely, “Have you ever seen a UFO?” Well, in the terms that most people think of UFOs, my answer to that question can only be a firm “No.” By that, I mean I have never seen a nuts and bolts-type object flying in the sky that baffled me. But, I did have one experience that some might suggest (and, indeed, have suggested) should cause me to change my stance. The story goes back more than a decade. Along with the late Rob Riggs (the author of several books, including In the Big Thicket), and several other friends and colleagues, on June 11, 2005 I headed out to Texas’ Big Thicket. It’s a large area of forestland that has a couple of weird legends attached to it: (a) the many and varied Bigfoot reports that have surfaced from the area; and (b) the Big Thicket’s resident “Ghost Lights,” as they have become known.
If, late at night, you have hung out in the Big Thicket’s Bragg Road (or Ghost Road and Ghost Light Road, as it’s known locally), you’ll know it’s very easy to mistake car headlights for something much stranger. But, that doesn’t take away the fact that there are far more than a few cases on record which stand the test of time. My very own late-night encounter in the area in 2005 was one of them. Here’s how I described the brief affair in my 2007 book, Memoirs of a Monster Hunter:
“We were on our way back to the vehicles to grab a bite to eat and some drinks when, as we entered a clearing in the trees, a basketball-sized bright light floated over us at a height of about 35 feet. It was moving from right to left, and sailed slowly, yet, purposefully on its journey. The ghost light was present for barely 10 seconds, but I managed to quickly capture the strange visitor on camera before it blinked out, never to return. Indeed, it all happened so fast that I almost convinced myself it had merely been a dream or the result of wishful thinking. But it was neither. The photograph had clearly recorded the ghost light. And more importantly, several members of the group could be seen in the picture, too, as could the road and the surrounding trees. In other words, I had secured an almost perfectly framed image of one of the Big Thicket’s mysterious ghost lights.”
And that was about it, a brief view of…well…something. So, to return to the theme of this article (did I see a UFO?), it all very much depends on how you, me and anyone and everyone interested in the subject interprets the term “UFO.” What I saw in the Big Thicket in the summer of 2005 was certainly unidentified. I can’t say it was flying, though. It was more like it was slowly, gently floating. And I saw no evidence at all that it was an “object.” At least, not in the way the word is used by ufologists. Rather, it just appeared to be a light. I suppose, something along the lines of the equally-controversial matter of ball-lightning.
In view of all the above, some might say that I really did see a UFO. Others might even go so far as to claim I saw an alien spacecraft (but, if it was, it would have been a hell of a small one!). Me? All I can say for sure is that I saw a fairly significantly-sized ball of light – and for a very short time – that was briefly there and which was then suddenly gone. At a veryconsiderable stretch, I guess I could claim to have seen a UFO. But, I would be deceiving myself. All I can say for sure is that I saw an odd light.

Multiple Aircrafts Report UFO Sighting Over Ireland
Last Friday, the Irish Aviation Authority launched an investigation into the sighting of an unidentified flying object (UFO) by a number of aircraft over the southwest coast of Ireland.
At around 6.47 a.m. on 9 November, the pilot of a British Airways flight, Speedbird94, contacted Shannon Air Traffic Control (ATC) to ask whether military exercises were taking place in the airspace through which her Boeing 787 was passing. Shannon ATC then asked if the pilots knew in which direction the objects were moving.

Very interesting report on Shannon high level Friday 9 November at 0630z with multiple aircraft with reported sightings of a UFO over County Kerry. Skip to 17 minutes to listen reports on @liveatc
Another pilot said the speed of the object was astronomical, it was like Mach 2, or twice as fast as the sound.
In a statement, the agency said the following reports from a small number of aircraft on Friday, November 9, of unusual air activity, the IAA submitted a report.
“This report will be investigated under the normal confidential occurrence investigation process.”

HE RECORDED AN IMPRESSIVE UFO SIGHTING DURING A LIVE BROADCAST IN MEXICO
A video filmed this October 28 in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico, around 4:23 am, caused a great debate on social networks.
The author of the video, Esteban Zavala, claims to have shared live on Instagram the strange event that was “happening”.
“I was driving back to San Diego, California, with my grandmother. We were having a normal conversation when suddenly she stays silent and starts pointing to the sky. I looked and there were five of these things about the houses and the beach.
I parked and immediately began to broadcast it live on Instagram, hence its quality, to save me future speculations on video editing, “writes Zavala in the description of the video posted on YouTube.
In the comments, the cybernauts express their astonishment before huge flying saucers that seem to have a row of white lights covering their side.

Oh, Area 51, don’t ever change. America’s spookiest Air Force facility has a firm hold on the world’s imagination and continues to spark speculation conspiracy theories about UFOs and secretive weapons and aircraft. The latest Area 51 weirdness was reported this week by Tyler Rogoway at aviation blog The Drive and seems to suggest the classified operations show no signs of stopping in the skies above Groom Lake.
What exactly goes on in the desert?
Despite the fact that nearly all of this testing is highly classified, there is only so much the Air Force can keep a secret due to the fact that much of the armed service’s flight data remains open to the public. Aviation watchdogs poring over this data noticed a strange flight which took place on September 20th earlier this year, flying with no callsign – the first suggestion that something strange was going down. Even stranger? The flight flew a repeated loop directly over the secretive Area 51 facility in the middle of the night. After four hours, the aircraft headed southwest before disappearing.
The aircraft has been identified as a Boeing NKC-135 Stratotanker, usually used for in-flight refueling operations. This particular aircraft, identified with the serial 61-0320, is a highly modified tanker which has been particularly busy in 2018 flying missions out of Area 51’s host facility, Edwards Air Force Base.
Edwards Air Force Base is home to the 412th Test Wing which conducts testing on new Air Force technologies.
The flight’s entire path can be seen here. Note that on this flight data website, a glitch caused two separate flights to be combined into one. That other flight, ten hours later, saw the same aircraft fly over desolate, unpopulated areas in the desert before making a similar loop over the ocean west of Vandenberg Air Force base. That second flight featured the appropriately spooky callsign “GHOST 57.”
In all likelihood, this tanker was refueling highly classified and experimental aircraft flying out of Edwards – but that makes it no less mysterious and fascinating. Then again, why spend so much time in the air directly above Area 51? That airspace is usually restricted and test flights rarely enter. What was being tested in the remote Nevada desert?
