Researchers find ancient rock art with paintings of whales and sharks in the desert

A dramatic scene has been found by experts exploring the Atacama Desert in Chile as they have come across hundreds of pieces of stunning 1,500 year-old-rock art, depicting the slaughter of whales, turtles and even sharks.

In the north of Chile, located right between the Pacific Ocean and the beginning of the vast Atacama Desert is the archaeological site of El Médano. North of it, researchers have discovered a new archaeological site with more than 300 ancient paintings.

The archaeological site of El Médano features a valuable set of rock paintings which were discovered in 1918 by an amateur archaeologist named Augusto Capdeville.

But, now, a team from the University of La Sorbonne, has located in the vicinity, new previously unknown rock art.

The new site called Izcuña, located a few miles north of Médano depicts drawings which are approximately 1,500 years old.

There, using strokes of red color, the ancient inhabitants of the region made rock art depicting the hung of whales, swordfish, marlin, squid, sea lion, turtles, and sharks.

All the paintings were made with a pigment of a red color and show the harpooned animals, but not their hunters.

Scientists explain how these hunting scenes are based on the everyday experiences of the ancient inhabitants living near Chile’s coastline.

The same scenery was present in the rock art researchers discovered at the beginning of the 20^th century, although those paintings recreated hunting scenes of terrestrial animals.

The value of this finding is enormous because it helps document how the inhabitants of the area extracted a large part of their resources from the ocean, and also what techniques they used for it.

As noted by experts, the ancient inhabitants had advanced fishing and hunting technologies that included fish hook built from shell, bone, cactus spines, copper, and even rafts made of sea lion skin.

As noted by the Daily Mail, archaeologists have discovered around 328 paintings at Izcuña, on 24 blocks of rock.

“Archaeological evidence attests to a society specialized in marine resource exploitation. Its sophisticated fishing and hunting technology included fish-hooks made from shell, bone, cactus spines and copper, and cotton lines, nets, stone weights, harpoons and rafts made of sea lion skin,” explained researchers in the study.

“This specialization and the resource-rich Pacific coast allowed the inhabitants to be hugely productive, thereby facilitating permanent residential camps located near water springs and on natural jetties. From here, small groups could explore vast territories.”

Countless Maya Artifacts And Human Remains Found In World’s Largest Underwater Cave

Researchers have found sacred Maya relics together with a 10,000-year-old Human skeleton in an underwater cave in Mexico.

In what is considered the world’s most important underwater archaeological site, experts have discovered sacred ancient Maya relics, together with human remains and Ice Age Animal Bones. So far, experts have discovered a total of 198 objects, including walls, altars and a Mayan burial site with human remains. Some of these objects date back more than 10,000 years and belonged to the first settlers of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.

The team in charge of the Great Maya Aquifer Project found a human skeleton which is believed to be 10 thousand years old, in what is considered the largest cenote in the world, in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.

The recently found bone structure is the fourth skeleton found so far, of what are believed to be the first settles in the area.

Lead Archaeologist Guillermo De Anda reported in a press conference the discovery of a cenote with stairs and altars dedicated to Ek Chuah, the God of war and commerce.

“I think it’s overwhelming. Without a doubt, it’s the most important submerged archaeological site in the world. It is very unlikely that there is another site in the world with these characteristics. There is an impressive amount of archaeological artifacts inside, and the level of preservation is also impressive.”

It is assumed that this space was used as a pilgrimage point by Mayan merchants.

Archaeologists found a large number of pottery remains and a mask representing the Ek Chuah.

The land routes used by the Maya for trade needed points of “ritual pilgrimage,” according to De Anda.

“On their way inland, they had to make stops at altars and in sacred places to make an exchange with the gods and, in some way, this is one of the traces they have left,” he said.

The so-called Cave of the God of Commerce has a temple and a stairway that allows access to the cave.

Throughout 347 kilometers of tunnels under the soil of Quintana Roo, archaeological and paleontological remains are concentrated in 198 places.

The team researching the world’s most important underwater archaeological site has the support of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and National Geographic to explore the flooded galleries, where unique elements have been found so far, such as a cave with remains of Pleistocene fauna embedded in the walls.

Experts have uncovered a total of 198 objects in the cave system.

As noted by De Anda, the remains found could account for “a catastrophic event” that allowed these bones to remain in that place.

“We still need to determine what these bones belong to, but the project is integrating a resident paleontologist to understand these contexts and take care of them as they should,” he concluded.

Is This The Gate To Hell? Researchers find Ancient ‘Portal To The Underworld’

Despite the fact that the discovery sounds like an excellent beginning for a new Indiana Jones Movie—We love Indy—researchers say they have found what they are calling “The Gates of Hell.”

Obviously not in a literal way, this mythical portal to the underworld was mentioned by ancient Greeks and Romans alike.

“This space is full of a vapor so misty and dense that one can scarcely see the ground. Any animal that passes inside meets instant death. I threw in sparrows and they immediately breathed their last and fell,” wrote Greek historian Strabo (64 BCE – 24 CE).

The site discovered by experts is located in ancient Phrygian city of Hierapolis, now Pamukkale in southwestern Turkey

The great majority of ancient legends refer to the different ways of reaching the underworld, going through different stages that increase the suffering of the soul that leaves the body.

For many Romans, this process began in “the gateway to the underworld” and scientists have recently revealed that the site still exists.

The place is actually a cave that has been rediscovered by researchers from the University of Salento (Italy). The place belonged to ancient Phrygia and was used to perform animal sacrifices by priests.

However, what the ancients considered a reality as a portal to the underworld is something entirely different, and we can thank science.

After finding the location of the ancient ‘portal to the underworld’ scientists have found out why animals that approached the site died nearly instantly.

The cause is an underground seismic activity, through which a large amount of volcanic carbon dioxide is expelled to the surface that killed the animals, but not to the priests performing the sacrifice.

The ancient priests must have surely thought they were favored by their gods, while in fact, it was just science, all along.

Specialists from the University of Duisburg-Essen, in Germany, took samples of the levels of carbon dioxide in the area surrounding the cave and found that the gas forms a kind of “lake” that rises 40 centimeters above the ground.

Deadly Gases Still Emerge From This Ancient Portal to the Underworld.

One of the most surprising facts is that this area continues to be as deadly as it was back in the days of the Ancient Romans and Greeks.

The gas is dissipated by the sun during the day but is more deadly at dawn. The concentration reaches above 50 percent at the very bottom of the lake, rising to around 35 percent at 10 centimeters, which could even kill a human – but, above 40 centimeters, the concentration drops rapidly, reports Science Alert.

However, above 40 centimeters, the concentration decreases rapidly.

“While the bull was standing within the gas lake with its mouth and nostrils at a height between 60 and 90 cm, the large grown priests (galli) always stood upright within the lake caring that their nose and mouth were way above the toxic level of the Hadean breath of death,” the team wrote in their paper.

“It is reported that they sometimes used stones to be larger.”

Archaeological evidence suggests that the site was fully functional until the 4th century AD, but remained a place of sporadic visitation by visitors for the next two centuries. The temple was destroyed in the 6th century AD by Christians, while later earthquakes may have further damaged the site

The research has been published in the journal Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences.

Massive Ancient Underwater Caves Reveal Ancient Mayan Relics

Archaeologists who have been exploring the world's largest underwater cave, recently discovered in Mexico, presented their findings Monday, including fossils of giant sloths and an elaborate shrine to the Mayan god of commerce, reports phys.org.

Researchers discovered last month that two large networks of underwater caves in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula, the cave system known as Sac Actun, once measured at 263 km (163 miles), and in fact connected with the 83 km- (52 km-) Dos Ojos system forming the largest such structure on Earth.

Diving with SCUBA gear, they have been exploring the ancient relics left in the caves over the millennia, in a project sponsored by Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).

Researchers believe the water level in the caves has fluctuated over time, and that they were a source of water in times of severe drought, a sometimes perilous one.

Some of the animals and humans who ventured inside never made it out alive. Today, their remains are a treasure trove for scientists, enabling them to piece together bits of the cave's history dating all the way back to the Pleistocene epoch (2.6 million to 11,700 years ago).

The animal remains include gomphotheres, an extinct elephant-like animal, as well as giant sloths and bears.

Then there are the artifacts left inside by humans: burnt human bones, ceramics, wall etchings and more. Many others of the hundreds of sink-holes that connect to the cave have elaborate signs of ritual activity around them.

The ancient Mayans viewed caves, and especially ones that led to water, as extremely sacred places.

Researchers Unearth Sophisticated Engineering And Metal-Work Beneath Ancient Greek ‘Pyramid’

As noted by experts, this ancient ‘pyramid’ composed of a number of terraces of would have blazed in the Greek sun, visible from far off. Beneath the structure, researchers discovered traces of complex engineering and metal-working.

A group of archaeologists from three countries has found evidence of advanced engineering work under the terraces of the pyramidal sanctuary of the islet Daskalio.

New excavations on the remote Greek island of Keros have revealed evidence of spectacular engineering feats and monumental architectural works that, according to researchers, make it one of the most impressive archaeological sites in the Aegean.

According to reports, more than 4,000 years ago, to be precise 4,500 years ago, the ancient builders carved the entire surface of a natural promontory in the form of a pyramid on the Greek island of Keros. They formed it in terraces covered with 1,000 tons of gleaming white stone specially imported to give it the appearance of a giant stepped pyramid that rises from the Aegean, making it the most imposing artificial structure of the entire Cycladic archipelago.

However, what’s inside is even more impressive, say archaeologists.

Experts have found below the surface of the terraces still-undiscovered engineering and craftsmanship feats that rival the impressive exterior of the structure.

As noted by the Guardian, Archaeologists have found evidence of a complex of drainage tunnels – constructed 1,000 years before the famous indoor plumbing of the Minoan palace of Knossos on Crete – and traces of sophisticated metalworking.

Experts are still unsure whether the ancient tunnels were designed as a system for wastewater or fresh water.

Researchers uncovered the first traces of advanced metalworking ten years ago on the site. Since then, new discoveries have shown the ancient inhabitants of the Mini-Islands were far more sophisticated than researchers imagined, as experts have excavated two workshops full of metalworking debris, and a number of artifacts including a lead axe, a mold for copper daggers, as well as countless ceramic fragments from metalworking equipment, used by the ancient builders, thousands of years ago.

“What we are seeing here with the metalworking and in other ways is the beginnings of urbanization,” said Joint director of the excavation Michael Boyd, of the University of Cambridge in an interview with the Guardian. Far-flung communities were drawn into networks centered on the site, craft and agricultural production was intensified, and the architecture became grander, gradually overshadowing the original importance of the sanctuary.

It is noteworthy to mention that the Dhaksalio promontory is now essentially a small islet due to the rise in sea level.

However, 4,500 years ago it was attached through a narrow channel to Keros, which, according to previous research, was a maritime sanctuary, center of power and destination of pilgrimage where mysterious rituals were carried out with broken marble objects.

Have We Found A 20,000-Year-Old Pyramid Where Plato Said Atlantis Would Be?

Is there a slight possibility that there is a massive Pyramid where Plato said Atlantis was once located? The alleged underwater pyramid is around 60 meters tall, and has a base of 8000 square meters.

Every time I read about Atlantis and that someone found ‘something—anything,’ that may indicate Atlantis was real I get really exciting.

Atlantis is probably the dream discovery of any archaeologists, despite the fact that many refer to it as a mythical place. Throughout the years, countless people have claimed to have found the ultimate evidence that Atlantis was once real. Despite this, no one has actually found solid evidence that would indicate Atlantis was anything more than a great ancient story.

According to Solon, after traveling to Egypt on numerous occasions he met a man called Sonchis of Sais—an ancient Egyptian Priest—who told him about a great civilization that existed 9,000 years before their time. This is well documented in Plato’s dialogues Timaeus and Critias.

Now, it is Plato who tells us, according to Salon, where Atlantis was located.

The mighty Atlantean island appeared as a military power that existed nine thousand years before the time of the Athenian Legislator Solon, who, according to Plato, is the source of the story.

It was allegedly located beyond the Pillars of Hercules and is described as larger than Libya and Asia Minor together.

The power of Atlantis was such that it came to dominate western Europe and northern Africa until it was stopped by the city of Athens.

At that very moment a catastrophe, which is not described, made both the island and the rival armies disappear;

“Through violent earthquakes and floods, in a single day and night of misfortune … [the whole race] … was swallowed up by the Earth and the island of Atlantis … disappeared into the depths of the sea.”

The sea where Atlantis was located soon became unnavigable because, while Athens and the people of Greece forgot the event, because only a few survived.

In Egypt, on the other hand, the memory that, thousands of years later came to Solon’s knowledge and, from his stories and a manuscript to Critias the narrator, the history of Atlantis was eventually was preserved.

But… what have we found beyond the Pillars of Hercules that might suggest Atlantis was in fact located there? The Azores are a set of nine volcanic islands that are located over a thousand kilometers from Portugal’s capital, Lisbon.

Located just off the islands of São Miguel and Terceira in the Azores, researchers have allegedly identified a massive structure located beneath the ocean.

The Islands of Azores are located precisely where Plato said, the mythical city/state of Atlantis would be found.

As noted by media and countless articles from the internet, the Pyramid off the coast of the Azores islands is a square pyramid, which is perfectly oriented by its cardinal points. Researchers claim that the structure has been submerged for at least 20,000 years, or around the last ice age when our planet’s glaciers were melting.

According to newspaper reports from Portugal, Diocleciano Silva first discovered the underwater pyramid. Early estimates indicate that the structure is at least 60 meters high and has a base of 8000 square meters.

Silva is said to have discovered the Pyramid while he was on a fishing trip and stumbled across the submerged pyramid using bathymetric equipment on board his ship (Bathymetry is the study of underwater depth of lake or ocean floors. In other words, Bathymetry is the underwater equivalent to hypsometry or topography.).

Speaking to Diário Insular, Silva said: “the pyramid is perfectly shaped and apparently oriented by the cardinal points.”

Researchers Find Thousand-Year-Old Pyramid City In The Heart Of Mexico

Researchers have made a sensational discovery in Mexico, as they have uncovered the remains of an ancient Pyramid city as densely built as Manhattan. During its peak, this ancient city is believed to have been inhabited by more than 100,000 people.

Using state-of-the-art laser technology; users discovered the lost city of Angamuco, built by the ancient Purepecha people, a rival culture of the ancient Azteca.

The recently uncovered archaeological site had 26 square kilometers and remained hidden for several centuries as dense vegetation devoured it.

LiDAR—Making Archaeology great again

Since 2011, a group of researchers has used laser scanning technology called LiDAR to examine the remains of an ancient metropolis called Angamuco, established during 900 AD on the shores of Lake Pátzcuaro, in the Mexican state of Michoacán.

‘To think that this massive city existed in the heartland of Mexico for all this time and nobody knew it was there is kind of amazing,’ said Chris Fisher, professor of anthropology at CSU who made the admission of missing the finding on foot.

LiDAR technology is helping archaeologists around the globe make unprecedented discoveries. Using traditional methods of on-the-ground archaeological surveys would take 20 years to assemble as much data as two days using the laser-based technique, note experts.

LiDAR can help researchers see what the naked eye can’t, thanks to the technologies ability to penetrate through thick layers of vegetation.

The technology offers researchers a new set of eyes, allowing them to see what they’d never see without it. In fact, after seeing the results of the scan, one of the team members realized that he had walked within 10 meters of one of the most massive pyramids of the ancient city of Angamuco, without even realizing it, since the pyramids—and entire city—are covered in thick layers of vegetation.

‘If you do the math, all of a sudden you are talking about 40,000 building foundations up there, which is [about] the same number of building foundations that are on the island of Manhattan.’

In an interview, Fisher said that thanks to LiDAR they have discovered that “more than 100,000 people inhabited the city of Angamuco during its peak, which occurred between the year 1,000 and 1,350 AD. We are talking about the fact that this metropolis is the largest metropolis that, until now, is known in western Mexico during this period.”

The discoveries have helped researchers understand that pre-Columbian Mesoamerica was ‘significantly more densely populated at the time of European contact’ than previously thought.

The researcher from Colorado State University said that “Angamuco was a large settlement that had many people and a lot of architectural remains.”

He added: “Some estimates of our studies show that there may have been more than 40,000 buildings, that is, the same number of buildings that are currently on the island of Manhattan, in New York.”

Between the 15th and 16th centuries, the Purépecha empire, with capital in Tzintzuntzan, was a Mesoamerican power that resisted the push of the Mexica Empire.

This ancient culture encompassed the southern part of the state of Guanajuato, much of the state of Michoacán and the northern region of the state of Guerrero to the south of the State of Mexico.

Its military and economic success were due, in part, to the fact that the Purépechas were skilled metal workers in both gold and copper, which undoubtedly helped maintain their independence from the Aztecs.

The ancient Purépechas were exclusive speakers of the Purepecha language, an isolated language that has no proven historical relationship with any other in the region.

The most famous source of information about the Purépechas is the Michoacán relation written by Fray Jerónimo de Alcalá for Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza around 1540.

Eeuwenoude “verloren” stad in Mexico telt 40.000 gebouwen: “Ongelooflijk dat niemand hiervan wist”

Het bestaan van de stad Angamuco werd voor het eerst ontdekt in 2007. Toen waren archeologen van plan om het gebied op de traditionele manier te onderzoeken. Ze beseften echter al snel dat ze minstens tien jaar nodig zouden hebben om het gebied volledig in kaart te brengen.

Daarom beslisten ze gebruik te maken van het zogenaamde Lidar-systeem, een technologie die de afstand tot het oppervlak bepaalt aan de hand van laserpulsen. Vanuit een vliegtuig kon het hele gebied op die manier onderzocht worden.

Onderzoekers zijn er nu in geslaagd een 3D-kaart te maken van de “verloren” stad, die zich nabij de Mexicaanse stad Morelia bevindt.

“100.000 inwoners”

Voor het eerst is de enorme grootte van het uitgestrekte stedelijke centrum van Angamuco, dat zijn hoogtepunt bereikte in de zestiende eeuw, duidelijk geworden. Gebouwen, wegen en monumenten zoals piramides en tempels bedekten een gebied van ruim 25 km².

“Het is fantastisch om te denken dat deze gigantische stad in die tijd bestond in het hartje van Mexico zonder dat iemand er nu iets vanaf wist”, zegt archeoloog Chris Fisher.

Volgens Fisher, die deel uitmaakte van het onderzoek, konden er maar liefst 100.000 mensen wonen. “In het gigantische centrum leefden heel veel mensen”, klinkt het. “Er stonden meer dan 40.000 gebouwen. Dat is ongeveer zoveel als in Manhattan.”

Was there a highly advanced civilization prior to all other known civilizations?

I believe this is the biggest conspiracy of all, and one in which, you must dive deep down the rabbit hole to truly understand all other conspiracies, especially modern era ones.

I think in order for you to be able to see the full picture and fully grasp the complexity of TPTB, you need to go all the way back and research history (real history - not the propaganda they teach in schools), mythology, lost civilizations, symbolism, occult, mystery schools, etc etc, and then move forward. Once you have done this, the bigger picture will come into focus, imo.

i hate that word "mythology" ...mainstream loves it...they use it to reference shit they dont understand and shit that isnt in the governments version of history...

ancient peoples did not waste their time carving fairy tales in stone...they carved their versions of history...more people need to wrap their head around that fact and dig a little deeper then the bible..

Teotihuacan: An Ancient City That Resembles A Circuit Board When Viewed From Above

“From the air, Teotihuacan’s city layout mysteriously resembles a computer circuit board with two massive processor chips, which in this case are represented by the Pyramid of the Sun and the Moon.

The ancient city of Teotihuacan is one of the oldest Pre-Columbian cities in the American continent.

Built by an unknown civilization, the mysterious city was found devoured by vegetations when the ancient Aztecs arrived.

Excavations have shown that the structures of Teotihuacan have abnormal amount of Mica embedded into them, a fact that raises numerous questions.

Teotihuacan, the city of the gods

Teotihuacan from Nahuatl: Teōtihuācan, is the ”place where men become gods,” the “place where the gods were made, or city of the gods”. The name of Nahuatl origin was used by the Mexica, Aztecs, to identify this city built by a civilization before them and which was already in ruins when the Mexica saw it for the first time.

To date the name given by its original inhabitants is unknown.

The remains of the city are located northeast of the Valley of Mexico.

The city is shrouded in mystery for a number of reasons. Despite the fact that it was one of the most influential cities in the American continent, we know very little about it. In fact, the origins of Teotihuacán are still the subject of research among experts.

Around the beginning of the Christian era, Teotihuacan was a village that gained importance as a center of worship in the Anáhuac basin.

The first significant constructions are believed to have been erected at that time, as shown by excavations performed at the Pyramid of the Moon.

The city grew in importance during the Classic Period (3rd to 7th centuries AD).

At that stage, the city was an important commercial and political node that reached an area of almost 21 km2, with a population ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 inhabitants.

The influence of Teotihuacan was felt in all the directions of Mesoamerica, as shown by the discoveries in cities such as Tikal, Monte Albán, and other sites that had an important relationship with Teotihuacan.

Scholars are unsure of the ethnic identity of the first inhabitants of Teotihuacan.

Among the candidates are the Totonacs, and the Nahuas.

The most recent hypotheses suggest that Teotihuacan was a cosmopolitan city in whose flourishing groups of diverse ethnic origin were involved.

However, these are mere assumptions.

As noted previously, the identity of the people who founded Teotihuacan is a mystery.

Teotihuacan had long been abandoned before the arrival of the Spaniards to Mesoamerica. This means that the few references to the city that were preserved in the historical sources produced in the years after the Conquest of Mexico do not speak properly about the inhabitants of Teotihuacan but of the representation of those who lived after the Teotihuacan collapse.

The Nahua informants of Bernardino de Sahagún thought that Teotihuacan was the place where the gods met to give rise to Nahui Ollin, the Fifth Sun according to native mythology, a period which illuminates the contemporary era.

According to colonial sources, the Nahuas thought that Teotihuacan was built by the quinametzin, a race of giants that populated the world during the previous era and whose survivors hid away.

The temples, the pyramids of the city were imagined as massive tombs of the Gods who founded the city, a sacred place where after death, men would become gods.

For reasons that have not yet been fully elucidated, Teotihuacan collapsed towards the middle of the 8th century, giving rise to the Mesoamerican Epiclassic Period.

Teotihuacan was also apparently built mimicking the three stars of Orion.

According to archaeologists, the advanced design of Teotihuacansuggests that the ancient builders had the knowledge not only of architecture but of complex mathematical and astronomical sciences. One of the most amazing details about Teotihuacan, and what makes it different from other ancient sites is that when observed from the air, Teotihuacan’s city layout strangely resembles a computer circuit board with two large processor chips— the Sun Pyramid and the Moon Pyramid.

Researchers have also found numerous and remarkable similarities to the Great Pyramids of Egypt.

However, if the idea of Teotihuacan resembling a modern computer board doesn’t arouse your imagination, perhaps large amount of mica embedded into the monuments of Teotihuacan will.

Archaeologists have found that Teotihuacan’s structures are embedded with mica.

This mineral is found 3,000 miles away in Brazil and is found in nearly all buildings, housing complexes, temples and along the roads of Teotihuacan.

Excavations have revealed that the pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan contained considerable amounts of mica in layers up to 30 cm.

Certainly, Mica was not included in these constructions for decoration because you couldn’t actually see it, so it is clear that this mineral was incorporated into the monuments for another purpose.

Mica is stable when exposed to electricity, light, moisture, and extreme temperatures. It has superior electrical properties as an insulator and as a dielectric, and can support an electrostatic field while dissipating minimal energy in the form of heat; it can be split very thin (0.025 to 0.125 millimeters or thinner) while maintaining its electrical properties, has a high dielectric breakdown, is thermally stable to 500 °C, and is resistant to corona discharge.

At Teotihuacan, we basically have a massive ancient city, whose builders are unknown to history, with pyramids and surrounding structures that resemble a computer board when seen from the air.

In addition to that, we know that the builders of the ancient city incorporated Mica into the structures of the city. Mica wasn’t placed there for aesthetic purposes, which raises numerous questions. Is there perhaps an otherworldly influence behind Teotihuacan? And, is it possible that the entire city was not only built to serve as city, but to harness some sort of energy?

Puma Punku: Evidence Of Laser-Like Tools Used By Ancient Civilizations?

Located 45 miles west of La Paz high in the Andes mountains, lie the mystifying ancient ruins of Puma Punku.

The megalithic stones found there are considered among the largest on the planet. Some boulders measure up to 26 feet long and weighing more than 100 tons each.

Puma Punku is a massive temple complex part of the Tiwanaku Site near Tiwanaku, Bolivia.

Tiwanaku is vital in Incan legends since it is believed to be the site where the world was created by the Gods.

Puma Punku, in turn, means “The Door of the Puma.”

As noted by the Andean specialist, Binghamton University Anthropology professor W. H. Isbell,  a radiocarbon date was obtained from organic material from lowermost and oldest layer of mound-fill forming the Puma Punku. This segment was deposited during the first of three construction epochs and dates the initial construction of the Puma Punku at 1510 ±25 B.P.

Puma Punku is so unusual in the way that it was constructed, shaped and positioned, that many scholars consider it is the most intriguing ancient site on the planet.

Mainstream experts believe the blocks found at Puma Punku were formed by hand with primitive stone tools.

However, some researchers point to the intricate stonework as evidence of the use of advanced precision technology.

How could primitive people, living thousands of years ago, have produced such flawless stonework, without access to any form of technology? Did they use sticks and stones?

Or, is it possible that the ancient constructors of Puma Punku manufactured the megalithic stones with advanced technology?

Perhaps with the use of precision tools that could have facilitated them to achieve these marvels of engineering and construction, displaying clean cuts, and precise angles.

If we look at the stones at Puma Punku carefully, you can see amazing intricate stonework, almost as if they used machine tools or even lasers.

It’s incredible.

At Puma Punku you will find mystifying stones with perfect right angles, and some rocks at Puma Punku have small drill holes that were evenly spaced along the groove. This has driven many authors to suggest that power tools may have been used on this unusual block of stone.

After years of research, archaeologists have concluded how the massive stones were cut at quarries nearly one hundred kilometers away and then rolled to Puma Punku on logs, supposedly.

However, what scholars seem to forget and what researchers rarely talk about is that Puma Punku is positioned at an altitude of 12,800 feet. This means the ancient complex was built above the natural tree line, meaning that NO trees grew in that area, which in turn signifies that no trees were cut down in order to use wooden rollers. This leads us to the following question: What did they use?

How did ancient mankind transport these supermassive blocks of stone to their destination?

Mainstream scholars have too many questions about the technology used by its builders, the transportation, and logistics, etc..

It is difficult to believe that all of this was accomplished without the use of power tools and sophisticated means of transportation.

This is precisely why ancient astronaut theorists and many authors say that transporting these massive blocks of granite from their quarries and moving them to Puma Punku would have required some type of advanced technology, huge lifting vehicles. In other words, technologies and means which ancient civilizations simply did not possess at that time, or at least that is what we think.

Puma Punku is without a doubt one of those places where, when you observe incredible ancient constructions, shaped with that much perfection, your imagination lights up. There are so many possibilities at one point, and conventional archaeological explanations just do not fit in one’s logic at that point.

In 1549, while seeking the capital of the ancient Inca Empire, Spanish conquistadors led by Pedro Cieza de León crossed into Bolivia and discovered the ruins of an ancient settlement called Tiahuanaco.

Located less than a quarter-mile northeast of Puma Punku, scientists believe that Tiahuanaco was once the center of a prosperous ancient civilization with more than 40,000 inhabitants.

Tiahuanaco is reasonably the greatest Native American civilization that many people haven’t heard of.

It was one of the most important predecessors of the ancient Inca and their history. They accomplished the unimaginable in architecture, in political development, in agriculture, and in many other craft industries which were on a very high level. Most scholars agree that Tiahuanaco was mysteriously abandoned around 1100 AD, just like other ancient civilizations like the Maya.

In the 1960s, the Bolivian government excavated the Subterranean Temple at Tiahuanaco. Inside the walls of the squared sunken courtyard are hundreds of stone heads with a diverse range of features. It’s a mixture of different races.

It’s believed that depicted inside the walls of the squared sunken courtyard are all the races of mankind, even elongated skulls. Furthermore, we have people wearing turbans, people with broad noses, people with thin noses, we have depictions of people with thick lips, people with thin lips, and some of the statues are particularly unusual since they do not seem to represent the native population.

In other words, and as put by many researchers who have visited the ancient site, they seem to symbolize every type and shape of human heads existing on the planet.

Two of them, which are very intriguing, is white in color, look very much like grey alien heads.

Researchers say that a large statue at the center of the sunken temple depicts the creator god, known as Viracocha.

Was Viracocha an ancient alien God?

However, Viracocha is depicted with extremely rare facial features.

The ancient inhabitants and builders of Tiahuanaco depicted their most prominent god with features unlike their own.

Viracocha is depicted having a beard and a mustache, and that is a very unusual thing because American Indians do not have beards and mustaches.

One of the most significant archaeological artifacts ever found in Tiahuanaco is the Fuente Magna Bowl.

It’s a ceramic bowl, and it has Sumerian cuneiform and Proto-Sumerian hieroglyphic script written on it.

But wait a minute, these two civilizations weren’t anywhere near one another!

In fact, they were separated by more than 8.000 miles, and yet this draws a direct connection between the ancient Sumerians and Tiahuanaco, and Puma Punku.

The idea of Sumerian writing exists at Puma Punku, and Tiahuanaco would seem to relate to the late Zecharia Sitchin and his ideas that the Sumerians were interacting with these “space beings” called the Annunaki.

Interestingly, in that case, the Annunaki were in Sumeria but also at Puma Punku and Tiahuanaco in South America.

The Mysterious 12,000-Year-Old Dropa Stones, Evidence Of Ancient Alien Contact?

More than 80 years ago, Chinese archaeologists discovered a cave system with chilling skeletons with elongated heads, a cosmic map, and more than 700 strange discs…

The mysterious discovery was allegedly made in 1930 when Chi Pu Tei, an archeology professor at Peking University and his students were on an expedition to explore a series of caves in the inaccessible mountains of Bayan Kara Ula, near Tibet, which were supposedly carved artificially in a system of underground tunnels and pantries.

According to these events, it is said that professor Chi Pu Tei and his students found tombs with skeletons of 1.38 m (4 ft 6 in) in height buried inside them. The skeletons would have had abnormally large heads and small, thin and fragile bodies. In addition to the skeletal remains, professor Chi Pu Tei and his students discovered countless other items.

It was suggested that these skeletal remains could have belonged to an unknown species of a mountain gorilla, but Professor Chi Pu Tei did not agree and responded: “Whoever heard about monkeys burying each other?”

There were no epitaphs in the tombs, but instead, they found more than 700 stone discs (“Dropa Stones”) with 8 cm holes in diameter at their centers.

On the walls, carvings of the rising sun, the moon, stars, the earth, mountains, and dotted lines linking the earth with the sky were found.

The discs and the cave paintings are said to date approximately 12,000 years. Their whereabouts today remains a mystery.

All of this raised a great mystery: Who were these mysterious beings? What were the enigmatic discs, and where did the star maps carved on the cave walls lead to?

Dropa Discs

Each stone disc, reportedly, would have been inscribed with two thin grooves that spiral from the edge to the central hole.

It is believed that the enigmatic Dropa Discs and other items discovered during the expedition were kept at the Peking University for 20 years.

All attempts to decipher the writing on the Dropa Discs were useless.

However, the discs were examined by Dr. Tsum Um Nui, in Beijing around 1958, who concluded that each groove consisted of a set of tiny hieroglyphs of unknown origin.

The rows were so small that a magnifying glass was necessary to see them clearly. Many of the hieroglyphics were worn out by erosion.

When Dr. Tsum allegedly deciphered the symbols, he revealed how the ancient writings tell a story of an otherworldly encounter where an ancient alien ship crash landed on Earth some 12,000 years ago.

According to Tsum Um Nui, one of the hieroglyphic lines read: “The Dropas came down from the clouds in their aircraft. Our men, women, and children hid in the caves ten times before sunrise. When at last they understood the sign language of the Dropas, they realized that the newcomers had peaceful intentions.”

Another section reads “regret” of the inhabitants of the mountain (tribe of the Ham) because the aliens had crashed their ship and could not build another to return to their planet.

Dr. Tsum reportedly published his discovery in 1962.

However, he would have been mocked to such an extent that he left China in exile moving to Japan, where he would later die.

It is said that the Beijing Pre-History Academy would never have allowed him to publish or discuss his find again.

Furthermore, due to the fact that “Tsum Um Nui” is not a real Chinese name, some critics suggest that the man never existed.

Others claim that Tsum Um Nui is a Japanese name adapted to the Chinese language. In addition to his theories about the Dropa, there is no further evidence that he ever existed.

In 1974, Ernst Wegerer, an Austrian engineer, photographed two discs that matched the descriptions of the Dropa Stones. He was on a guided tour of the Bampo Museum in Xian, when he saw the stone discs.

He said he observed a hole in the center of each disk and hieroglyphs in grooves, partly crumbled, like a spiral. It is said that when he enquired about the discs the manager could tell him nothing, but permitted him to take one in his hand and photograph them. He claims that in his photos the hieroglyphs cannot be seen as they have been hidden by the flash from the camera and have also deteriorated. By 1994, the discs and the manager had disappeared from the museum.

Critics largely rejected the story of the Dropa discs, arguing that it was a mixture of deception and urban legend.

For example, writer David Richie mentions that these stories intrigued Gordon Chreighton, a member of the Royal Society of Anthropology and the Royal Society of Geography.

In the investigation, Chreighton considered the allegations about the Dropa “unfounded,” and detailed his findings in an article for the Flying Saucer Review.

It is not easy to find credible evidence to show that the Dropa Stones exist or have existed in the past.

Defenders of the story claim that it is the result of a social disruption caused by the Chinese Cultural Revolution and a cover-up conspired by the authorities of that country.

However, this goes beyond China; since those who oppose the history of the Dropa, claim that it is a deception of Erich von Däniken.

Power Sources Of The Past: Are these 2,000-Year-Old Artifacts Ancient Batteries?

In 1936, during excavations on a hill in Kujut Rabua, a village southeast of Baghdad (Iraq), workers of the Iraqi State Railway Department discovered an old grave covered with a stone slab.

For two months, the Iraqi Department of Antiquities extracted a total of 613 beads, clay figurines, chiseled bricks and other pieces.

They were dated between 248 BC and 226 AD.

They also found unique terracotta pots, shaped like a vase and of a light yellowish color, containing a cylinder made of a rolled copper sheet, which houses a single iron rod. The container measured 14 cm high by 4 cm in diameter, while the copper cylinder measured 9 cm high by 2.6 cm in diameter. At the top, the iron rod is isolated from the copper by bitumen, with plugs or stoppers, and both rod and cylinder fit snugly inside the opening of the jar.

In 1939 German archaeologist Wilhelm König, then in charge of the State Museum Laboratory in Baghdad, identified the mysterious artifacts as a probable ancient electric battery.

He described his finding in 9 Jahre Iraq, published in Austria in 1940.

Respecters analyzed the alleged batters trying to prove they were really used as such. During one occasion, an electrolyte was placed inside it, connected to a lamp, which eventually turned on. The official report that was written later said that this object behaved exactly like a modern electric battery.

Once he returned to the Berlin Museum, König tried finding more similar items and found cylinders, rods and similar artifacts from Mesopotamia; all of them with thin iron and bronze rods. It seemed to him that these “batteries” could have been joined in series (one after the other) to increase the voltage for a greater power output.

If these mystery artifacts were really batteries, it would change a lot about ancient civilizations, and their capabilities and level of technology.

After World War II, Willard Gray, an electronics engineer at the High Voltage Laboratory of the General Electric Company in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, manufactured a duplicate of these batteries and filled them with copper sulfate ( although he stated that another liquid electrolyte could have been used within the reach of the inhabitants of Iraq at the time, like ordinary grape juice).

To the surprise of many, the battery operated and generated between one and two volts.

As noted by Dennielle Downs, and Ava Meyerhoff from the Smith College, “There is no written record as to the exact function of the jar, but the best guess is that it was a type of battery. Scientists believe the batteries (if that is their correct function) were used to electroplate items such as putting a layer of one metal (gold) onto the surface of another (silver), a method still practiced in Iraq today.”

Despite the fact there is evidence that the enigmatic objects could have produced electricity, the real purpose of the ‘Baghdad Batteries’ remains a mystery for many scholars.

The Discovery Channel’s series ‘Myth Busters’ built replicas of the jars to see if it was indeed possible for them to have been used for electroplating or electrostimulation in ancient times.

On MythBusters’ 29th episode (March 23, 2005), the crew behind the series produced ten hand-made terracotta jars fitted to act as batteries.

Lemon juice was chosen as the electrolyte to activate the electrochemical reaction between the copper and iron.

Connected in series, the batteries produced 4 volts of electricity.

When linked in series, the cells had sufficient power to electroplate a small token.

Was Quetzalcoatl An Extraterrestrial? Here’s How Mesoamerican “Mythology” Described Him

With the recent release of the Pentagon’s UFO footage, which comprised of two videos filmed by U.S. Navy pilots of objects performing maneuvers that defy our current understanding of aerodynamics, the topic of UFOs has once again grabbed headlines around the world.

The video was a step forward towards disclosing the fact that there are unknown objects in our atmosphere that are commonly spotted and tracked on radar by defence authorities. They are highly technologically advanced, more so than any air-craft which is available in any global inventory at the moment.

Further to this, many people have had strange sightings that don’t really ‘make sense,’ in the realm of known aircrafts. The frequency of these sightings are not uncommon these days, especially for avid star gazers.

Haven’t seen one yourself? Well, how often are you looking up into the night sky? For many people, the answer is little to never.

Who Man’s These Craft’s?

The next question to be asked is, are these objects, or at least some of them, extraterrestrial?

According to one of the pilots who filmed the UFO released by the Pentagon, yes, they are, at least that’s their belief. The Pentagon’s “aerial defence” program director, Luis Elizondo also shared his belief that they are, along with hundreds of other high ranking personnel from several branches of military, intelligence, academia, aerospace and academia. He said that there is plenty of evidence to make that connection… The most recent example might be Robert Bigelow, founder of the Bigelow Aerospace corporation who, not long ago, stated that he knows we are being visited, and have been visited by ET’s.

“Yes there have been crashed craft, and bodies recovered. . . . We are not alone in the universe, they have been coming here for a long time. . . . I happen to be privileged enough to be in on the fact that we have been visited on this planet, and the UFO phenomenon is real.”

Ancient history is fascinating to say the least, and we’ve discovered so much about it. But, at the same time, we still know very little about Earth’s history and even the history of humanity. One of the most fascinating points to make about ancient history is that much of which was once considered mythological, is actually turning out to be true.

Perhaps information that didn’t fit within our framework of accepted knowledge was deemed mythological? How can we take seriously the writings of ancient Greek philosophers when describing social life and other aspects of humanity, yet when it comes to other areas of the world, like the Oracle at Delphi, they are placed in a the mythological realm?

Perhaps some was mythological, but perhaps some of what we call mythological was actually real.

Another great example is the Lost Land of Atlantis, a highly technologically advanced civilization that would shake what we thought we knew of human history, it’s not so much a tale anymore, and it’s one of many examples that show what we’ve been taught may not be completely correct.

For anybody who has done their research in this area, it’s quite clear given the evidence we now have, that Atlantis was far from a mythological place. Given our research on Atlantis, and many scholars out there, Atlantis is no joke, and perhaps before that, Lemuria as well.

This is why when it comes to stories of figures like Quetzalcoatl, it’s always interesting to contemplate that they were real.

The video footage mentioned above, which was released by the Pentagon, was done so in conjunction with To The Stars Academy headed by Tom Delonge, along with Luis Elizondo (mentioned earlier), and several other figures who’ve held high level positions within the Department of Defence. The Pentagon is working with the academy in the disclosure of UFO’s.

That in itself is a completely different discussion with many implications. It’s hard to trust the government these days, so can we really trust them with UFO disclosure and what that means? Will leave this for another time.

Delonge recently made some interesting comments about his experiences so far, and the contacts he’s been able to make, and the discussions that have been had.

Tom states in a Podcast with Joe Rogan:

“I went and met a former director of the CIA and NSA…Right when I sat down and told him about the book you know what he says to me? He goes, “I didn’t read much science fiction when I was a kid but I read a lot about Greek mythology”…The sixth biggest defense contractor in the world is a company called Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC)…and in the front of the building (SAIC’s headquarters) you have an obelisk coming out of a fake leg and two Atlantians on thrones, and they’re both holding pyramids and one says the past and one says the future, and they’re 8 foot tall statues.”

So, who was Quetzalcoatl? Considered to be a mythical tale, Spanish chronicler Juan de Torquemada states that Quetzalcoatl was ‘a fair and ruddy complexioned man with a long beard. Another describes him as follows:

“A mysterious person…a white man with strong formation of body, broad forehead, large eyes, and a flowing beard. He was dressed in a long, white robe reaching to his feet. He condemned sacrifices, except of fruits and flowers, and was known as the god of peace…When addressed on the subject of war he is reported to have stopped up his ears with his fingers.”  (source)

Graham Hancock, one of the world’s foremost researchers into such things, describes another description from Central American Mayan tradition in his book, Fingerprints of the Gods:

“He came from across the sea in a boat that moved by itself without paddles. He was a tall, bearded white man who taught people to use fire for cooking. He also built houses and showed couples that they could live together as husband and wife; and since people often quarrelled in those days, he taught them to live in peace.” 

This figure is spoken of the Mesoamerican culture.

It’s interesting because there are multiple accounts of various figures, not just Quetzalcoatl, all of which seemed to have provided humanity with a little ‘push’, here and there, and assistance with regards to discovery. Nothing was really done for humanity, it seemed that the common theme through all of these contacts was for us to better ourselves, and be responsible for our own progression, with a little bit of assistance.

Not all of the ‘gods’ were kind, loving and peaceful. There were others who required sacrifices, and seemed to almost be a little opposite of ones like Quetzalcoatl.

What’s also interesting is that the descriptions of Quetzalcoatl resemble modern day descriptions of some, supposed extraterrestrial beings. Those who have examined the lore, like myself, would know this. Could these have been who we consider today, benevolent extraterrestrial beings? Perhaps.

Ancient history, along with many ancient cultures who pre-date modern-day religion, all have very interesting stories which can easily be interpreted has highly advanced beings from another place.

The idea that these are just mere interpretations seem to be dwindling every year. Being an avid researcher in the field for more than a decade, I can tell you that extraterrestrial intelligence is just the tip of the iceberg. It truly does open up Pandora’s box, and there is much more to this universal story, so much so that we probably couldn’t even comprehend it.

The evidence today points to the idea that we’ve been visited for a long time, so to contemplate the idea that these were extraterrestrial visits is not out of the question.

“There are objects in our atmosphere which are technically miles in advance of anything we can deploy, that we have no means of stopping them coming here … [and] that there is a serious possibility that we are being visited and have been visited for many years by people from outer space, from other civilizations….Who they are, where they come from, and what they want. This should be the subject of rigorous scientific investigation and not the subject of ‘rubishing’ by tabloid newspapers.”

If they have been here as well as visiting us for a long time, that’s good news. It takes out the idea of an ‘extraterrestrial invasion’, because, if that were the case, it would have already happened by now.

The meaning of Quetzalcoatl is “feathered serpent,” this is the translation that comes from ancient South America, from the Maya and the Aztecs. In Hancock’s book, he goes on to describe how there were other entities who resembled Quetzalcoatl  quite closely:

“There were other deities, among the Maya in particular, whose identities seemed to merge closely with those of Quetzalcoatl. One was Votan, a great civilizer, who was also described as pale-skinned, bearded and wearing a long robe. Sholars could offer no translation for his name but his principal symbol, like that of Quetzalcoatl, was a serpent. Another closely related figure was Itzamana, the Mayan god of healing, who was robed and bearded individual, his symbol, too, was the rattlesnake.”

Graham, in his book, goes on to state:

“All of the legends stated unambiguously that Quetzalcoatl/Kukulkan/Gucumatz/Votan/Itzamana had arrived in Central America from some-where very far away (across the “Eastern Sea”)  and that amid great sadness he had eventually sailed off again in the direction whence he had come.”

This is an interested quote, and relates closely to a sentiment shared by a First Nations Canadian storyteller, Richard Wagamese:

“My people tell of Star People who came to us many generations ago. The Star people brought spiritual teachings and stories and maps of the cosmos and they offered these freely. The Dendera Lightbulb—Evidence of Advanced Ancient Technology?

The Temple of Dendera, dedicated to the goddess Hathor, is one of the most mysterious ancient temples built by the Egyptians thousands of years ago. Located some 2.5 km southeast of Dendera, this ancient temple is one of the best preserved Egyptian complexes, especially its central temple, thanks to which it remained buried by sand and mud until it was unearthed by Auguste Mariette in the middle of the 19th century.

The main temple features a set of reliefs that is unlike any other ancient Egyptian art.

Knowns as the Dendera Light, a mysterious relief has raised numerous questions among experts. Is it possible that thousands of years ago, just before humanity decided to start writing down history, technologies far greater than what we’ve ever imagined, existed on earth?

The Dendera Lighbulb raises numerous questions. Located on the wall inside the temple of Hathor, we see something that may not be so strange in the 21st century. A large object resembling a lightbulb being manipulated by people. However, this technology wasn’t supposed to exist in ancient Egypt. So, what is it?

According to mainstream experts and Egyptologists, the Dendera Light is not some sort of ancient technology, but a mythological depiction of a djed pillar and a lotus flower, spawning a snake within, representing aspects of Egyptian mythology.

Egyptologists claim that the reliefs are a representation of the Egyptian god Hor, “Horus unifier of the Two Lands,” or Harsomtus in Greek, which takes various forms, and one of them is the snake emerging from a lotus.

This relief is interpreted by many authors as evidence of advanced ancient technology, electricity to be precise, in ancient Egypt.

Furthermore, it is believed that the Djed pillar is a symbol of stability which is also interpreted as the backbone of the god Osiris.

In the carvings at the temple of Hathor, the four horizontal lines forming the capital of the djed are supplemented by human arms stretching out, as if the djed were a backbone.

The arms hold up the snake within the lotus flower. The snake coming from the lotus symbolize fertility, linked to the annual Nile flood.

However, many ancient astronaut theorists, as well as other authors have proposed that the enigmatic relief inside the Hathor temple does not only comprise elements of ancient Egyptian mythology but depicts a massive lightbulb.

If it was, in fact, a massive lightbulb, then what powered it?

One answer may be the so-called Baghdad Batteries. More than 2,000 years ago, the ancient inhabitants of Mesopotamia created countless terracotta pots, shaped like a vase and of a light yellowish color, containing a cylinder made of a rolled copper sheet, which houses a single iron rod.

The container measured 14 cm high by 4 cm in diameter, while the copper cylinder measured 9 cm high by 2.6 cm in diameter.

At the top, the iron rod is isolated from the copper by bitumen, with plugs or stoppers, and both rod and cylinder fit snugly inside the opening of the jar.

According to some experts, these enigmatic terracotta pots were, in fact, the earliest batteries on planet Earth, and may have been used to mysterious power devices such as the Dendera Libhgbulb, if of course, it ever existed.

Here Is A List Of The Largest Monoliths Ever Created 

Massive monoliths quarried by man can be found all over the planet.

The most straightforward definition of a monolith? A monolith can be a large piece of rock that is intended or was used to build a structure or a monument, alone or together with other stones.

Ancient mankind has had the ability to quarry transport and place into position massive blocks of stone (monoliths) that weigh more than 100 tons.

A monolith can be a monument in itself (statue, monolithic stone).

Monolithic sacred stones are found from prehistoric times (menhirs) and in many civilizations, such as the Mayan civilization (steles representing the sovereigns or even the original “zoomorphs” of Quiriguá) and the Aztec civilization (the Coatlicue monolith, representing the goddess of death, or the decorated monolith of Tizoc that represents fifteen victories of this sovereign).

The stone spheres of Costa Rica are more than 500 monoliths that weight up to 16 tons. These spheres are associated with constellations and astronomical events. Researchers place them around 6,000 BC, and others say that they could date back as far as 12,000 BC.

The first buildings composed of monoliths are dolmens, which date back from the 5th millennium BC.

Officially speaking, the biggest stone ever moved by man is the granite pedestal of the Bronze Horseman, which was transported to St. Petersburg in 1770,. It is considered as the largest stone ever moved by man, having an estimated weight of about 1500 tons.

The largest monolith ever carved by man (if we are to ignore the megaliths of Gornaya Shoria in Russia) is the unfinished obelisk of Aswan, which has a weight of around 1200 tons. This massive obelisk never left the quarry, as the massive rock cracked before being separated from the bedrock.

The largest stone ever carved and moved by man is the massive stone of Baalbek, called Hadjar-el-Qoublé (the stone of the South), with dimensions of 21.50 × 4.80 × 4.20 m, the massive rock is believed to weigh between 900 and 1100 tons, according to fairly constant estimates. It left the quarry but remained planted at an angle, not far from the site of its extraction.

In this image you can see the side panel from one of the Colossi of Memnon, the last remaining structures from the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III, known as Kom el-Hetan.

Worthy of mention are also the colossi of Memnon. The two giant stone statues represent the pharaoh Amenhotep III, and located on the west bank of the Nile, opposite the Egyptian city of Luxor, near Medinet Habu and south of the great Tebanas necropolis. The Colossi of Memnon have a weight of 1300 tons each. (The statues itself have 750 tons while the pedestal each weighing 550 tons).

The monoliths of Gornaya Shoria are also considered some of the largest ever carved. However, there is a great debate among experts whether these monoliths are naturally occurring, or were carved by an unknown ancient civilization from Siberia. It is reported that the largest sections or blocks of stone have estimated weights between three and four thousand tons, which would make them larger than the megaliths at Baalbek, in Lebanon.

The Stone statues on Easter Island—the Moai—are also massive monoliths created by ancient man.

So far, experts have identified more than 900 Moai Statues sculpted by the ancient Rapa Nui scattered throughout the island.

Most of them were carved in tufa from the Rano Raraku volcanic cone, where more than 400 Moai remain in mixed phases of construction.

According to historical data, the entire development of the various construction techniques was developed on the island between 700 AD and 1600 AD. Everything indicates that the quarry was suddenly abandoned and half-carved statues were left in the rock.

The largest Moai statue is the Te Tokanga—the giant. This Moai is located at the main quarry of Rano Raraku and remains unfinished. With a weight of more than 270 tons, it remains a mystery as to how the ancient builders planned on moving it.

Such a feat is even unthinkable for modern technology. Island tradition holds that this Moai was destined for the Ahu Vinapu ceremonial center.

The ‘Menhir de Champ-Dolent’ is the tallest of Brittany’s standing stones. Its height above ground is between 9.3 and 9.5 meters, and is made of pinkish granite. This massive standing stone has an estimated weight of around 100 tons.

New Images of Ancient Maya Megopolis Reveal Thousands of Lost Pyramids And Monuments

Researchers have made a mind-gobbling discovery neat Peten, deep in the Guatemalan jungle. Using LiDAR technology, researchers have found more than 60,000 previously unknown structures that were once home to a massive pre-Columbian Civilization.

With the help of revolutionary LiDAR technology (short for “Light Detection And Ranging”), modern archeologists are making history. Recently, experts have discovered tens of thousands of ancient structures belonging to the ancient Maya civilization.

The LIDAR TITAN instrument used by the PACUNAM LIDAR initiative penetrates the forest cover and the GPS instrumentation allows researchers to locate each point with millimeter accuracy. This allows the development of more accurate surface maps than with any other technology available today.

“The LiDAR images make it clear that this entire region was a settlement system whose scale and population density had been grossly underestimated,” said Thomas Garrison, an Ithaca College archaeologist and National Geographic Explorer who specializes in using digital technology for archaeological research.

The massive pyramids, temples, palaces, and causeways were discovered hidden deep beneath the dense Guatemalan Jungle.

The discovery suggests that the ancient Maya built massive self-sustaining cities. Furthermore, the discovery has helped confirm that the Maya civilization was much larger and far more advanced than what was previously believed.

As noted by researchers, LiDAR technology has also uncovered ancient engineering works and specialized agricultural areas capable of sustaining a massive population at an almost industrial level, and Jorge Mario Chajon, the  general director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute has said; “These findings reaffirm that Guatemala is the heart of the Mayan world.”

Led by the so-called Guatemalan PACUNAM LIDAR initiative, this consortium of more than 30 scientists and archaeologists belonging to leading academic institutions worldwide, organized and funded by the PACUNAM Foundation used state-of-the-art technology to explore more than 2,000 km² of the Guatemalan Jungle north of Peten by air.

Researchers have discovered a new pyramid south of the Plaza Perdido de Tikal.

Their discoveries were represented in a number of digital maps and in augmented reality applications that transform the aerial data into a land view, designed exclusively for the National Geographic documentary. Thankfully, all of these stunning discoveries were made without having to cut a single tree.

Discovered thanks to new LiDAR scans, Kunal is an early ceremonial center discovered by the Naachtun Archaeological Project.

Previously a Mayan population of between 1 and 2 million inhabitants had been proposed by experts, but the new data has shown a population of about 20 million inhabitants that occupied the plains of the Mayan civilization, an amount that represents around half of the European population at that time, occupying an area the size of Italy.

“This revelation is one of the most important developments in Mayan archeology in the last 100 years,” said Tom Garrison, of Ithaca College, one of the archaeologists leading the project.

“The Mayan wars have been the subject of research for decades and, now, the technology is revealing the physical manifestation of those past conflicts, demonstrating that they were a determining factor of the ancient Mayan culture, probably configuring the emergence and development of some of their bigger cities,” he added.

Cosmic rays bombard Earth’s atmosphere, creating the unstable isotope carbon-14. This isotope lets scientists learn the ages of once-living things.

Radiocarbon dating is a technique used by scientists to learn the ages of biological specimens – for example, wooden archaeological artifacts or ancient human remains – from the distant past. It can be used on objects as old as about 62,000 years. Here’s how it works.

What is an isotope?

To understand radiocarbon dating, you first have to understand the word isotope.

An isotope is what scientists call two or more forms of the same element. If you could peer at the atoms of two different isotopes, you’d find equal numbers of protons but different numbers of neutrons in the atoms’ nucleus or core.

So there’s a difference in the relative atomic masses of two isotopes. But they still have the same chemical properties. A carbon atom is a carbon atom is a carbon atom …

Although an element’s number of protons cannot change, the number of neutrons can vary slightly in each atom. Atoms of the same element that have different numbers of neutrons are called isotopes. Here’s an example using the simplest atom, hydrogen. Radiocarbon dating uses isotopes of the element carbon.

Radiocarbon dating uses carbon isotopes.

Radiocarbon dating relies on the carbon isotopes carbon-14 and carbon-12. Scientists are looking for the ratio of those two isotopes in a sample.

Most carbon on Earth exists as the very stable isotope carbon-12, with a very small amount as carbon-13.

Carbon-14 is an unstable isotope of carbon that will eventually decay at a known rate to become carbon-12.

Cosmic rays – high-energy particles from beyond the solar system – bombard Earth’s upper atmosphere continually, in the process creating the unstable carbon-14. Carbon-14 is considered a radioactive isotope of carbon. Because it’s unstable, carbon-14 will eventually decay back to carbon-12 isotopes. Because the cosmic ray bombardment is fairly constant, there’s a near-constant level of carbon-14 to carbon-12 ratio in Earth’s atmosphere.

Organisms at the base of the food chain that photosynthesize – for example, plants and algae – use the carbon in Earth’s atmosphere. They have the same ratio of carbon-14 to carbon-12 as the atmosphere, and this same ratio is then carried up the food chain all the way to apex predators, like sharks.

But when gas exchange is stopped, be it in a particular part of the body like in deposits in bones and teeth, or when the entire organism dies, the ratio of carbon-14 to carbon-12 begins to decrease. The unstable carbon-14 gradually decays to carbon-12 at a steady rate.

And that’s the key to radiocarbon dating. Scientists measure the ratio of carbon isotopes to be able to estimate how far back in time a biological sample was active or alive.

Aboveground nuclear testing almost doubled the amount of carbon-14 in the atmosphere. That’s why aboveground nuclear testing was banned. A special kind of radiocarbon dating: Bomb radiocarbon dating.

As we mentioned above, the carbon-14 to carbon-12 ratio in the atmosphere remains nearly constant. It’s not absolutely constant due to several variables that affect the levels of cosmic rays reaching the atmosphere, such as the fluctuating strength of the Earth’s magnetic field, solar cycles that influence the amount of cosmic rays entering the solar system, climatic changes and human activities. Among the significant events that caused a temporary but significant spike in the atmospheric carbon-14 to carbon-12 ratio were above-ground nuclear test detonations in the two decades following World War II.

Bomb radiocarbon dating is a term for radiocarbon dating based on timestamps left by above-ground nuclear explosions, and it is especially useful for putting an absolute age on organisms that lived through those events. In The Cosmic Story of Carbon-14 Ethan Siegel writes:

The only major fluctuation [in carbon-14] we know of occurred when we began detonating nuclear weapons in the open air, back in the mid-20th century. If you ever wondered why nuclear tests are now performed underground, this is why.

Most radiocarbon dating today is done using an accelerator mass spectrometer, an instrument that directly counts the numbers of carbon-14 and carbon-12 in a sample.

Here Are 5 Mysterious Artifacts Which Date Back Millions Of Years

Technically speaking, these artifacts should not exist, and according to mainstream science, they don’t. Yet all around the globe, a set of enigmatic objects have been found that point towards the possibility that advanced life may have flourished on Earth, before the arrival of modern humans, millions of years ago.

Despite this fact, a number of strange, and extremely ancient artifacts have been found all around the globe that ultimately question the human origins and human history.

How long ago did modern humans appear on Earth? Where did we come from? And, is it possible that before the arrival of Homo Sapiens, another different species inhabited Earth, perhaps millions of years ago?

1. Ancient Hammer predating humans.

Let’s take a look at an artifact discovered in London, Texas, USA, in 1934. What appears to be an ordinary hammer is, in fact, a hammer embedded in stone.

What makes this extremely interesting is the age of the object; it is believed to date back 400 million years.  Impossible right?

It is believed that this mysterious hammer originated from rock that belongs to the Ordovician era, more than 400 million years ago. Researchers consider that since the head of the hammer was found embedded into the rock, it points to the possibility that the embedding process was performed under different atmospheric conditions to the current, and different atmospheric pressure more similar to those in the remote past.

According to studies of the Metallurgical Institute of Columbia, the inside handle underwent the process of carbonization, the head of the hammer was built with an iron purity only achievable with modern-day technology. According to analysis, the head of the hammer consists of 97 pure iron, 2 percent chlorine, and 1 percent sulfur.

2. There’s a 290-million-year-old footprint, and it should not exist. Ever.

A rock belonging to the Permian period—some 290 million years ago—has a curious detail on its surface.

Discovered in New Mexico, the Permian Period rock features a human footprint. But, humans did not exist on Earth 290 million years ago, so how’s that possible? Curiously, the Permian (along with the Paleozoic) ended with the Permian–Triassic extinction event, the largest mass extinction in Earth’s history, in which nearly 90% of marine species and 70% of terrestrial species died out. Recovery from the Permian-Triassic extinction event was protracted; on land, ecosystems took 30 million years to recover.

As noted by Dr. Don Patton, the footprint is genuine. If it is, it would mean that hundreds of millions of years ago, a different type of human called Earth their home. Of course, according to scientific evidence, that’s not really possible. The Permian Period was a time way before birds, dinosaurs, and MAN, were supposed to exist.

3. A Giant footprint which makes absolutely no sense.

It’s huge. It’s old. It’s striking.

Located in South Africa, in the vicinity of the town of Mpaluzi, close to the border with Swaziland is a mysterious rock that has an incredible feature.

A massive granite block has a massive footprint embedded on its surface. Geologists believe that the granite block dates back some 200 million years.

This fascinating footprint was discovered over a hundred years ago when a hunter called Stoffel Coetzee stumbled across it in 1912 while hunting in the area. The footprint left behind on ‘rough granite’ measures staggering 4 feet in length.

4. Ok, this one isn’t an artifact, but rather evidence of many artifacts combined on Earth.

Many researchers believe that there are several pieces of evidence pointing towards the existence of highly advanced ancient civilizations that existed on Earth millions of years ago.

According to Dr. Alexander Koltypin, a geologist and the director of the Natural Science Research Center at Moscow’s International Independent University of Ecology and Politology, there’s evidence of million-year-old structures scattered across the globe.

During his long career, Dr. Koltypin has studied numerous ancient underground structures mainly in the Mediterranean and has identified numerous similarities which have led him to believe that many sites were interconnected. But most incredibly, the weathering of the structures together with their material composition and extreme geological features has led him to believe these megastructures were built by advanced civilizations that inhabited Earth millions of years ago.

5. 300 million-year-old screw?

Apparently, we’ve got history all wrong.

What is the chance that there are numerous objects recovered across the globe that date back millions of years? If humans weren’t around at that time, who built them?

According to reports from Chinese News agencies, a mysterious object discovered in 2002 could be evidence of prehistorical civilizations. Tests have failed to show the exact composition of the mysterious rock, researchers that include geologists and physicists from the National Land Resources Bureau of Gansu Province, Colored Metal Survey Bureau of Gansu Province, the Institute of Geology and Minerals Research of China Academy, Lanzhou Branch, and the School of Resources and Environment of Lanzhou College are unsure of the origin of the artifact and point out that at this time, all theories are possible.

According to Lanzhou Morning News; After a discussion about the possibility of being man-made and the possible reasons for its formation, scientists unanimously labeled the stone as one of the most valuable in China and in the world of collections, researchers, and Archaeological studies.”

After many studies, Chinese scientists concluded that the artifact had not been made by contemporary hands or by current technology levels, the most accepted hypothesis is that it is a product of a prehistoric civilization.
