Here are 5 things serious scientists believe about extra-terrestrial life

Popular culture has given us lots of ideas of what extraterrestrials might look like, behave, and interact with us. (Mostly by killing us, though occasionally by phoning home.) But it turns out a lot of serious scientists have thought about it, too. Here’s what the scientists think.

    1. THEY MAY LOOK JUST LIKE US.

Simon Conway Morris, an evolutionary biologist at Cambridge, thinks there’s a good chance intelligent extraterrestrial life will look a lot like us. Different species independently evolve in similar patterns, Morris argued in The Runes of Evolution, and would likely do the same on other planets. “The things which we regard as most important,” he said in an interview, “cognitive sophistication, large brains, intelligence, tool making, are also convergent.” If there are other planets that look a lot like planet Earth — and the Kepler spacecraft is discovering that there are — then the likelihood of human-like extraterrestrial intelligence on those planets isn’t a huge stretch. “If the outcomes of evolution are at least broadly predictable,” Morris said, “then what applies on Earth will apply across the Milky Way, and beyond.”

    2. THEY’LL SEND MACHINES FIRST.

    De bronafbeelding bekijken

Popular culture has extraterrestrials stepping off spacecraft onto Earth. But scientists, like SETI Institute astronomer Seth Shostak, dispute that idea. Because space travel is a long, far journey and a huge investment, if aliens wanted contact with planet Earth, they would most likely send robots and computers first. “It’s not like, the hatch would open and we’ll see a strange alien paw coming out,” Shostak said in an interview. “It’s more likely to be a robotic arm.”

But Shostak and other scientists have also suggested that the extraterrestrial visitors could be the machines. Steven J. Dick, an astronomer and then-chief historian for NASA, argued in a paper that extraterrestrial intelligence is most likely “post-biological” artificial intelligence. “Because of the limits of biology and flesh-and-blood brains,” he wrote, “cultural evolution will eventually result in methods for improving intelligence beyond those biological limits.” And that may make aliens in fact more likely to visit: “Silicon-based creatures are more likely to engage in space travel, having durable systems that are practically immortal,” Shostak wrote in an op-ed. “They may be the kind of the creatures we first encounter, if we encounter anyone.”

    3. THEY MIGHT NOT COME IN PEACE.

    De bronafbeelding bekijken

Stephen Hawking has made his opinions on extraterrestrial life very clear. “If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn’t turn out very well for the Native Americans,” he said in an interview. Later, he told reporters that “a civilization reading one of our messages could be billions of years ahead of us. If so, they will be vastly more powerful, and may not see us as any more valuable than we see bacteria.” Other scientists have noted that extraterrestrials, like humans, will likely prize natural resources. “I suspect resources would be finite anywhere in the universe,” Shostak said.

    4. THEY MIGHT WIPE US OUT.

    De bronafbeelding bekijken

Cross-planetary contamination is a dangeous possibility that astrobiologists have begun to consider. Foreign microbes might be benign, said John Rummel, then NASA’s planetary protection officer, to Astrobiology Magazine. But they might not. It’s why so many safety protocols and have been established to protect Earth from unknown microbes from interstellar samples. “While there should be no similarity between the warm, wet human body and the cold, dry Martian environment, there certainly can be environments on Earth where Mars life might thrive if carried here by a probe or human mission,” wrote David Warmflash, an astrobiologist. “Environmental ecology and biospheres on Earth are notoriously complex, so we don’t want to release a native Martian microbe on Earth, particularly in ‘Mars-like‘ regions of our planet.”

    5. THEY WILL BE UNPREDICTABLE.

    De bronafbeelding bekijken

If no one’s really sure what extraterrestrial life will look like, the form they’re in, or their motives in contacting humans, who knows how they’ll act? “It would be like humans meeting trilobytes, because aliens could be billions of years more advanced than us,” Shostak said in an interview. “They could be aggressive — because aggression is favored in a Darwinian system — but they could be peaceful. No one knows.”

It’s possible that extraterrestrials may have evolved just like humans — to be capable of both violent aggression and peaceful compromise. But if evolution is based on survival of the fittest, “we have good reason to believe that aggressive instincts will be present in extra as well,” wrote astrobiologist Pushkar Ganesh Vaidya. “To what extent alien life can curb their aggressive instincts (or else they will possibly self-destruct) is anybody’s guess.”

Humans have pondered aliens since medieval times

Wonder about civilizations on other worlds goes back centuries

For beings that are supposedly alien to human culture, extraterrestrials are pretty darn common. You can find them in all sorts of cultural contexts, from comic books, sci-fi novels and conspiracy theories to Hollywood films and old television reruns. There’s Superman and Doctor Who, E.T. and Mindy’s friend Mork, Mr. Spock, Alf, Kang and Kodos and My Favorite Martian. Of course, there’s just one hitch: They’re all fictional. So far, real aliens from other worlds have refused to show their faces on the real-world Earth — or even telephone, text or tweet. As the Italian physicist Enrico Fermi so quotably inquired during a discussion about aliens more than six decades ago, “Where is everybody?”

Scientific inquiry into the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence still often begins by pondering Fermi’s paradox: The universe is vast and old, so advanced civilizations should have matured enough by now to send emissaries to Earth. Yet none have. Fermi suspected that it wasn’t feasible or that aliens didn’t think visiting Earth was worth the trouble. Others concluded that they simply don’t exist. Recent investigations indicate that harsh environments may snuff out nascent life long before it evolves the intelligence necessary for sending messages or traveling through space.

In any event, Fermi’s question did not launch humankind’s concern with visitors from other planets. Imagining other worlds, and the possibility of intelligent life-forms inhabiting them, did not originate with modern science or in speculative fiction. In the ancient world, philosophers argued about the possibility of multiple universes; in the Middle Ages the question of the “plurality of worlds” and possible inhabitants occupied the deepest of thinkers, spawning intricate and controversial philosophical, theological and astronomical debate. Far from being a merely modern preoccupation, life beyond Earth has long been a burning issue animating the human race’s desire to understand itself, and its place in the cosmos.

    Other worlds, illogical

From ancient times Earth’s place was widely regarded to be the center of everything. As articulated by the Greek philosopher Aristotle, the Earth was the innermost sphere in a universe, or world, surrounded by various other spheres containing the moon, sun, planets and stars. Those heavenly spheres, crystalline and transparent, rotated about the Earthly core comprising four elements: fire, air, water and earth. Those elements layered themselves on the basis of their essence, or “nature” — earth’s natural place was at the middle of the cosmos, which was why solid matter fell to the ground, seeking the inaccessible center far below.

On the basis of this principle, Aristotle deduced the impossibility of other worlds. If some other world existed, its matter (its “earth”) would seek both the center of its world and of our world as well. Such opposite imperatives posed a logical contradiction (which Aristotle, having more or less invented logic, regarded as a directly personal insult). He also applied further reasoning to point out that there is no space (no void) outside the known world for any other world to occupy. So, Aristotle concluded, two worlds cannot both exist.

Some Greeks (notably those advocating the existence of atoms) believed otherwise. But Aristotle’s view prevailed. By the 13th century, once Aristotle’s writings had been rediscovered in medieval Europe, most scholars defended his position.

But then religion leveled the philosophical playing field. Fans of other worlds got a chance to make their case.

In 1277, the bishop of Paris, Étienne Tempier, banned scholars from teaching 219 principles, manny associated with Aristotle’s philosophy. Among the prohibited teachings on the list was item 34: that God could not create as many worlds as he wanted to. Since the penalty for violating this decree was excommunication, Parisian scholars suddenly discovered rationales allowing multiple worlds, empowering God to defy Aristotle’s logic. And since Paris was the intellectual capital of the European world, scholars elsewhere followed the Parisian lead.

In the 1400s, Nicholas of Cusa (left) contended that Earth was one of a multitude of worlds. Later, Giordano Bruno (right) suggested the existence of an infinity of worlds populated by intelligent life.
FROM LEFT: HISTORIOGRAF/WIKIMEDIA COMMONS; FRANKFURT AND LEIPZIG, 1715/WIKIMEDIA COMMONS

While several philosophers asserted that God could make many worlds, most intimated that he probably wouldn’t have bothered. Hardly anyone addressed the likelihood of alien life, although both Jean Buridan in Paris and William of Ockham in Oxford did consider the possibility. “God could produce an infinite [number of] individuals of the same kind as those that now exist,” wrote Ockham, “but He is not limited to producing them in this world.”

Populated worlds showed up more prominently in writings by the renegade thinkers Nicholas of Cusa (1401–1464) and Giordano Bruno (1548–1600). They argued not only for the existence of other worlds, but also for worlds inhabited by beings just like, or maybe better than, Earth’s humans.

“In every region inhabitants of diverse nobility of nature proceed from God,” wrote Nicholas, who argued that space had no center, and therefore the Earth could not be central or privileged with respect to life. Bruno, an Italian friar, asserted that God’s perfection demanded an infinity of worlds, and beings. “Infinite perfection is far better presented in innumerable individuals than in those which are numbered and finite,” Bruno averred.

Burned at the stake for heretical beliefs (though not, as often stated, for his belief in other worlds), Bruno did not live to see the triumph of Copernicanism during the 17th century. Copernicus had placed the sun at the hub of a planetary system, making the Earth just one planet of several. So the existence of “other worlds” eventually became no longer speculation, but astronomical fact, inviting the notion of otherworldly populations, as the prominent Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens pointed out in the late 1600s. “A man that is of Copernicus’ opinion, that this Earth of ours is a planet … like the rest of the planets, cannot but sometimes think that it’s not improbable that the rest of the planets have … their inhabitants too,” Huygens wrote in his New Conjectures Concerning the Planetary Worlds, Their Inhabitants and Productions.

A few years earlier, French science popularizer Bernard le Bovier de Fontenelle had surveyed the prospects for life in the solar system in his Conversations on the Plurality of Worlds, an imaginary dialog between a philosopher and an uneducated but intelligent woman known as the Marquise.

“It would be very strange that the Earth was as populated as it is, and the other planets weren’t at all,” the philosopher told the Marquise. Although he didn’t think people could live on the sun (if there were any, they’d be blinded by its brightness), he sided with those who envisioned inhabitants on other planets and even the moon.

“Just as there have been and still are a prodigious number of men foolish enough to worship the Moon, there are people on the Moon who worship the Earth,” he wrote.

From early modern times onward, discussion of aliens was not confined to science and philosophy. They also appeared in various works of fiction, providing plot devices that remain popular to the present day. Often authors used aliens as stand-ins for evil (or occasionally benevolent) humans to comment on current events. Modern science fiction about aliens frequently portrays them in the role of tyrants or monsters or victims, with parallels to real life (think Flash Gordon’s nemesis Ming the Merciless, a 1930s dictator, or the extraterrestrials of the 1980s film and TV show Alien Nation — immigrants encountering bigotry and discrimination). When humans look for aliens, it seems, they often imagine themselves.

    Serious science

While aliens thrived in fiction, though, serious scientific belief in extraterrestrials — at least nearby — diminished in the early 20th century, following late 19th century exuberance about possible life on Mars. Supposedly a network of lines interpreted as canals signified the presence of a sophisticated Martian civilization; its debunking (plus further knowledge about planetary environments) led to general agreement that finding intelligent life elsewhere in the solar system was not an intelligent bet.

In his book Astronomy for Amateurs, French astronomer Camille Flammarion depicted a network of lines seen on the surface of Mars; those lines had been interpreted as canals indicating an intelligent civilization, a conclusion later decisively debunked.
    C. FLAMMARION, ASTRONOMY FOR AMATEURS

On the other hand, the universe had grown incredibly vaster than the early Copernicans had imagined. The sun had become just one of billions of stars in the Milky Way galaxy, which in turn was only one of billions of other similar galaxies, or “island universes.” Within a cosmos so expansive, alien enthusiasts concluded, the existence of other life somewhere seemed inevitable. In 1961, astronomer Frank Drake developed an equation to gauge the likelihood of extraterrestrial life’s existence; by the 1990s he estimated that 10,000 planets possessed advanced civilizations in the Milky Way alone, even before anybody really knew for sure that planets outside the solar system actually existed.

But now everybody does. In the space of the last two decades, conclusive evidence of exoplanets, now numbering in the thousands, has reconfigured the debate and sharpened Fermi’s original paradox. No one any longer doubts that planets are plentiful. But still there’s been not a peep from anyone living on them, despite years of aiming radio telescopes at the heavens in hope of detecting a signal in the static of interstellar space.

Maybe such signals are just too rare or too weak for human instruments to detect. Or possibly some cosmic conspiracy is at work to prevent civilizations from communicating — or arising in the first place. Or perhaps civilizations that do arise are eradicated before they have a chance to communicate.

Throughout the 20th century, extraterrestrial life of various levels of intelligence, benevolence or malevolence has been popular in fictional forms from comic books to TV shows to films.

Or maybe the alien invasion has merely been delayed. Fermi’s paradox implicitly assumes that other civilizations have been around long enough to develop galactic transportation systems. After all, the universe, born in the Big Bang 13.8 billion years ago, is three times as old as the Earth. So most analyses assume that alien civilizations had a head start and would be advanced enough by now to go wherever they wanted to. But a new paper suggests that livable galactic neighborhoods may have developed only relatively recently.

In a young, smaller and more crowded universe, cataclysmic explosions known as gamma-ray bursts may have effectively sterilized otherwise habitable planets, Tsvi Piran and collaborators suggest in a paper published in February in Physical Review Letters.

A planet near the core of a galaxy would be especially susceptible to gamma-ray catastrophes. And in a young universe, planets closer to the galactic edge (like Earth) would also be in danger from gamma-ray bursts in neighboring satellite galaxies. Only as the expansion of the universe began to accelerate — not so long before the birth of the Earth — would galaxies grow far enough apart to provide safety zones for life.

“The accelerated expansion induced by a cosmological constant slows the growth of cosmic structures, and increases the mean inter-galaxy separation,” Piran and colleagues write. “This reduces the number of nearby satellites likely to host catastrophic” gamma-ray bursts. So most alien civilizations would have begun to flourish not much before Earth’s did; those aliens may now be wondering why nobody has visited them.

Still, the radio silence from the sky makes some scientists wonder whether today’s optimism about ET’s existence will go the way of the Martian canal society. From one sobering perspective, aliens aren’t sending messages because few planets remain habitable long enough for life to develop an intelligent civilization. One study questions, for instance, how likely it is that life, once initiated on any planet, would shape its environment sufficiently well to provide for lasting bio-security.

In fact, that study finds, a wet, rocky planet just the right distance from a star — in the Goldilocks zone — might not remain habitable for long. Atmospheric and geochemical processes would typically drive either rapid warming (producing an uninhabitable planet like Venus) or quick cooling, freezing water and leaving the planet too cold and dry for life to survive, Aditya Chopra and Charles Lineweaver conclude in a recent issue of Astrobiology. Only if life itself alters these processes can it maintain a long-term home suitable for developing intelligence.

“Feedback between life and environment may play the dominant role in maintaining the habitability of the few rocky planets in which life has been able to evolve,” wrote Chopra and Lineweaver, both of the Australian National University in Canberra.

Yet even given such analyses — based on a vastly deeper grasp on astronomy and cosmology than medieval scholars possessed — whether real aliens exist remains one of those questions that science cannot now answer. It’s much like other profound questions also explored in medieval times: What is the universe made of? Is it eternal? Today’s scientists may be closer (or not) to answering those questions than were their medieval counterparts. Nevertheless the answers are not yet in hand.

Maybe we’ll just have to pose those questions to the aliens, if they exist, and are ever willing to communicate. And if those aliens do arrive, and provide the answers, humankind may well discover how medieval its understanding of the cosmos still is. Or perhaps the aliens will be equally clueless about nature’s deepest mysteries. As Fontenelle’s philosopher told the Marquise: “There’s no indication that we’re the only foolish species in the universe. Ignorance is quite naturally a widespread thing.”

NASA Scientists are Planning for How to Announce the Discovery of Alien Life

“Our generation could realistically be the one to discover evidence of life beyond Earth. With this privileged potential comes responsibility.”

This statement would not be surprising in a sci-fi movie. What would you say if you learned it came from a NASA report led by the organization’s chief scientist? Is NASA getting us ready for some sort of SETI announcement? Would “Klaatu barada nikto” be an inappropriate greeting?

“Establishing best practices for communicating about life detection can serve to set reasonable expectations on the early stages of a hugely challenging endeavor, attach value to incremental steps along the path, and build public trust by making clear that false starts and dead ends are an expected and potentially productive part of the scientific process.”

In a paper published this week in the journal Nature, NASA Chief Scientist James Green and a group of other NASA scientists seem to be saying it’s not to early to start practicing how the discovery of extraterrestrial life forms should be made. In a sign of the strange times we live in, one objective of the paper is to admit that the announcement of the discovery of and possible encounter with ETs “has a high potential to be sensationalized.” Really? What Green and his team are striving for is proactive approach to approaching extraterrestrial life forms. Most science fiction relies on ETs showing up by surprise, which leaves humans with limited choices, and, at least in the movies, the one selected is usually wrong … sometimes violently wrong.

“History includes many claims of life detection that later proved incorrect or ambiguous when considered in exclusively binary terms. If, instead, we recast the search for life as a progressive endeavor, we convey the value of observations that are contextual or suggestive but not definitive and emphasize that false starts and dead ends are an expected part of a healthy scientific process.”

Science Alert had full access to the report and shows that NASA is considering all of the options for all of the possible types and levels of life forms humans may discover or encounter – especially life forms that may be completely unfamiliar to us. To do this (and to avoid doing something stupid during the first encounter), the team suggests developing what it calls a “confidence of life detection” (CoLD) scale to scientifically determine if something is a life form. Phys.org explains what the scale might look like. The lowest level would be detection of a biosignature, followed by eliminating a false sign, predicting how the signal was generated, ruling out non-biological causes, observing the via other means, eliminating the possibility the biosignature came from earth (like the recent discovery that a signal from Proxima Centauri was actually human-generated from Earth) and finally declaring it to be a life form and studying it as such.

“Establishing best practices for communicating about life detection can serve to set reasonable expectations on the early stages of a hugely challenging endeavor, attach value to incremental steps along the path, and build public trust by making clear that false starts and dead ends are an expected and potentially productive part of the scientific process.”

Again, our strange times forces NASA to be more concerned about the current distrust of science and the sensationalization of news than it is about the history-changing achievement the discovery of extraterrestrial life will be. Let’s hope Green and his team find the right way to announce it before they show up on our doorstep and wonder why we’re all saying “Klaatu barada nikto.”

Head of NASA Suggests That UFOs Could Be Alien Technology

"Who am I to say planet Earth is the only location of a life form that is civilized and organized like ours?

    Image

During an appearance this week at the University of Virginia, NASA boss Bill Nelson made some eyebrow-raising remarks about a possible connection between military sightings of unidentified flying objects and the search for alien life.

“I’ve talked to those pilots and they know they saw something, and their radars locked on to it,” Nelson told the crowd at the university, which is where he got his law degree. “And they don’t know what is. And we don’t know what it is. We hope it’s not an adversary here on Earth that has that kind of technology.”

That’s an interesting analysis on its own. But look what he said next, when he started directly speculating about the search for life beyond Earth:

“But it’s something,” Nelson added during the wide-ranging event. “And so this is a mission that we’re constantly looking, ‘Who is out there?’ Who are we?’ How did we get here? How did we become as we are? How did we develop? How did we civilize? And are those same conditions out there in a universe that has billions of other suns and billions of other galaxies?’ It’s so large I can’t conceive it.”

Provocatively, Nelson even went on to conjecture that alien civilizations could be found in a parallel universe.

“Now there are even theories that there might be other universes,” Nelson added. “And if that’s the case, who am I to say planet Earth is the only location of a life form that is civilized and organized like ours?”

Obviously, Nelson isn’t claiming to have any specific information, and in all likelihood he was just having some fun during a public appearance. It’s also not Nelson’s first time opining that there’s almost certainly alien life out there somewhere.

But it worth contrasting Nelson’s freewheeling style with that of his immediate predecessor, Steve Jurczyk, who was much more reserved and circumspect on the topic. Take this interview he did with Futurism earlier this year:

“You know, it’s, uh, hard to say,” he told us with a laugh when asked about the search for alien life. “But you know, part of the Mars mission is looking for past signs of life, and we’re detecting planets around other stars, right? With Kepler and eventually with the James Webb Space Telescope and other missions, we want to do direct imaging of exoplanets, planets around other stars. So we’re advancing our knowledge there.”

“But so far, no aliens,” he said.

Someone is Occupying Our Moon Visual Evidence Captured by NASA Suggests

Many researchers have asked the question, why has NASA not been back to the moon since the 1970s? Could it be that our moon was already occupied thus any moon projects after Apollo went black? There are many NASA photographs that show technology across the lunar surface and evidence of what looks to be some kind of ancient glass structures.

It’s feasible to consider our moon was some kind of observation outpost for thousands upon thousands of years. Presented by Mike Bara Filmed by New Living Expo – Backdated Catalogue

Aliens Created Bitcoin In Order To Help Humanity Evolve Faster! Oct 2021, UFO Sighting News.

Wow, and Bitcoin just hit its ATH...all time high. Even companies and governments are considering it more seriously. No government can regulate it, control it. It's bigger than that, because aliens created it.

This may sound crazy, but I have a thought for you guys. I was watching Logan Pauls podcast with Andrei Jikh about Bitcoin and how magnificent it is and it really made me think. Everything about Bitcoin is so utterly perfect. There are no real flaws in its idea and there’s no real way to exploit it, something which is very rare in most human created concepts and ideas. They also talk about how this is the next step in human civilization which I agree with. That could be linked to the theory that aliens are waiting for us to develop both technologically and morally before contacting us. Bitcoin was actually planted by aliens to help accelerate our learning curve! Yes you can argue Vitalik Buterin created Ethereum but he used the idea of Bitcoin and what it is to then create his own ideology. It just completely baffles me that a human could create such a genius concept that cannot be faulted, cannot be exploited even by the power of governments etc and yet he or she has remained anonymous this whole time. Food for thought. Bitcoin...100% proof alien technology is right here on earth and anyone can get some.

The Roswell “UFO Crash” and “Alternative Facts”

It’s hardly surprising that 1997 was the year in which the Roswell “crashed UFO” affair reached its absolute pinnacle. It was, after all, nothing less than the 50th anniversary of the mysterious event. Just about everyone who was anyone in Ufology was commenting on, or writing about, the case – mostly from the perspective of promoting and championing the alien angle. That was not the case for exactly everyone, however. Certainly, I wasn’t impressed by the E.T. angle. I’m still not impressed today, in 2021. Three years after the 1994 “Mogul Report” was published, the Air Force made a surprising acknowledgement that the reported sightings of strange bodies at Roswell did have a basis in fact, after all. Not only that: so compelled by then was the Air Force to address the bodies issue that it authorized the release of yet another report on Roswell. The last word, lo and behold, was not the last word. The last word was not even anywhere in sight. Entitled The Roswell Report: Case Closed, it did very little – if anything at all – to dampen the ever-present notoriety surrounding the case, however. In fact, the question of why the Air Force had concluded there was a pressing need on its part to explain the reports of unusual bodies found in New Mexico (when it could quite easily have summarily dismissed them as hoaxes or modern-day folklore), arguably only heightened the interest in what did or did not occur.

    U.S. Air Force

The Air Force report focused practically all of its 231 pages on the alleged recovery of the strange bodies and asserted that: “‘Aliens’ observed in the New Mexico desert were probably anthropomorphic test dummies that were carried aloft by U.S. Air Force high altitude balloons for scientific research. The ‘unusual’ military activities in the New Mexico desert were high altitude research balloon launch and recovery operations. The reports of military units that always seemed to arrive shortly after the crash of a flying saucer to retrieve the saucer and ‘crew,’ were actually accurate descriptions of Air Force personnel engaged in anthropomorphic dummy recovery operations.” There is no doubt (it is, actually, a matter of historical record) that the Air Force conducted a wide array of tests using crash test dummies in New Mexico and that at least some of these tests did occur in the vicinities of both the White Sands Proving Ground and the town of Roswell. But were those same tests responsible – either in part or in whole – for the stories concerning highly unusual-looking bodies recovered by the military during the summer of 1947?

    (Nick Redfern)

At the time of its release, the conclusions of the Air Force’s latest (final…?) report provoked a furor of controversy. While there is absolutely no doubt that tests utilizing anthropomorphic dummies were widespread in New Mexico, the Air Force’s report largely and very carefully glosses over the fact that these particular tests did not even commence until the early 1950s. This was an issue not lost on the mainstream media during the Air Force’s press conference at the Pentagon, which accompanied the release of the report in July 1997. A reporter asked, “How do you square the UFO enthusiasts saying that they’re talking about 1947, and you’re talking about dummies used in the 50’s, almost a decade later?” An Air Force spokesman replied, slightly and noticeably awkwardly: “Well, I’m afraid that’s a problem that we have with time compression. I don’t know what they saw in ‘47, but I’m quite sure it probably was Project Mogul. But I think if you find that people talk about things over a period of time, they begin to lose exactly when the date was.” For the record, “time compression” was the 1990s equivalent of what we now know and utterly loathe as, ahem, “alternative facts.”

Physical Evidence Alien’s Were Recovered From Roswell Slides Authenticated By Kodak

Beware of new information as anything else added to the end of the Roswell story must be scrutinised closely and handled with extreme prejudice.

This is the supposed Alien being in the case:
    Credit: Slidebox Media/Mirror/UFO Sightings Footage/UFO News/Canva.
This is the supposed Alien being in the Kodak slide that was inside of the glass case which was given to Tom Carey UFO researcher. If it’s real or not, I don’t know – but if it is real then great, we need more information but if it’s not, shame on you for trying to dupe people into believing a croc of fudge.
I came across this ridiculous claim in the Mirror, a UK major newspaper via a Google Search and obviously I was been drawn to it because it’s Alien and UFO related.
    Credit: Tom Carey/Mirror/UFO Sighting’s Footage/UFO News/Canva.
I couldn’t help be drawn to the Alien tag lol. And although I was drawn to it “pretty much straight away” I did stop to think about the use of the “tag words or keywords” because they aren’t just used by browsers in their search results.
Apparently the photo was verified by Kodak and as been from 1947 and okay that’s hard to dismiss but it’s hardly world changing…
    Credit: Tom Carey/Mirror/UFO Sighting’s Footage/UFO News/Canva.
Carey believes that the creatures are four feet tall, and added: “The head is almost insect-like.”
Hoaxers and fakers also target these keywords like “Alien” and the most obvious one is UFO.7
But for what reason? It can’t be for monetary gains, can it?
How can it be for money gains, are they selling homes on Mars? It’s nothing more than to point finger’s and say they fell for it. A hoaxer creates a CGI UFO or a real looking Alien on a table like this one which damn it looks really interesting and real, people comment on it saying it’s real or that it’s definitely real and the hoaxers are laughing at them all, and that’s what I can’t abide. It’s sneaky and underhanded.

Why would a story about Roswell pop up 70+ years later in, it’s insane, it’s a hoax and I’m writing this so that you don’t have to be belittled into believing it.

I believe I’m onto something here because it jumped out from the page at me, like it normally does if it’s fake. And hoaxers know this, they are master manipulators, it’s what they do. At first I asked myself, is this really what hoaxers are doing aswell, are they playing on the keywords and duping believer’s into believing fake Alien videos and Alien photos? Just think about the likelyhood of this being real, then look at it again. My immediate reaction was to read at least the “title” and see what it says, right.

Before I realised it I was clicking on the link and I’m reading what can only be described as Horse s**t.

If you’ve read any of my post’s you’ll probably know that I detest UFO hoaxers, UFO fakers and people lying about Alien abductions and UFO sighting’s that they’ve just made up. And also I detest pretty much anyone that laughs at another person for believing a fictional UFO account that was intentionally put forward as a real UFO event. Creating fake UFO videos and also with photos to pull off the hoax is despicable!
So, what’s up with this suspicious Roswell Alien video… everything!
    Here’s what caught my eye:
New ‘Roswell Alien autopsy footage’ has been released after a US Intelligence Agent gave him the images, lol. Apparently the Agent was operating during the Second World War which I must admit, that titbit 9f information means nothing  it’s a red flag of rubbish added to give credibility.
The grainy images appears to show the body of an alien being on a table.
    Mirror quote:

A UFO researcher claims to have been given an authentic image of an alien, supposedly taken after an autopsy in the top-secret Area 51.
The photo, taken on film, was sent to Tom Carey and has been verified to date back to 1947 by Kodak, the same year of the infamous Roswell ‘crash’ in New Mexico.
Mr Carey has now contacted Kodak historians to seek further confirmation on the date the image was taken.
Yeah, that’s exactly what I read on the Mirror online newspaper. It really sound’s interesting, it sounds like there’s brand new information about Roswell to be had and Area 51 which of course I’m gonna be drawn to, I write everyday about this stuff. I love this stuff, I just want answers for myself, it’s much bigger than anything in history and if there’s brand new info which is gonna shed more light on the conspiracy side of Roswell then I would like to know, and so would another 50 million plus people. But the hoaxers know that and that makes us a prime target not for scammers, but pranksters, hoaxers and fakers.

I honestly don’t know which one is worse? People scamming to take money from people or hoaxers faking UFO and Alien videos to take the dignity from embarrassed Alien believer’s?

    Lee Lewis UFO Sightings Footage

All the usual suspect keywords are in there and by suspects I mean UFO, Alien keywords. Of course it’s gonna catch my eye, I write about UFOs trying to figure out UFO sightings all the time. I’m hopefully trying to discover new information about old or new UFO sighting’s and my biggest hope is that we can connect the dot’s and place a UFO at such and such a time, just after being caught on camera with evidencebased facts.
I’m trying to find a lineage or a time-line of UFO activity so we can confidently put a UFO of the same shape, colour and size plus behaviour at X position and later at Y position, confidently. Can we then corroborate the evidence by radar, CCTV, eye witnesses etc. Believe me, it’s not possible to do as a one person team so that’s why I ask for your help.
I know what I’m doing isn’t making a big difference, yet. Believe me it hurts to say that  but constantly taking a reality check is something I have to do. But, I like to think one day I can make some difference and even if I’m not physically able to travel round the world and piece all the jigsaw pieces together at least I’m bringing you a good read with your coffee and breakfast in the morning.
The hoaxers won’t get us down. Here’s a video with insightful information about the Alien slides:

Roswell: “Records Which Should Never Have Been Destroyed”

As you will see this week, I’m on a bit of a Roswell kick. But, it’s worth it. Nineteen-Ninety-Four was the year in which the UFO research community got even more fired up by Roswell. It was all due to the publication of a U.S. Air Force report on the July 1947 event. Its title: Report of Air Force Research Regarding the Roswell Incident. Was the government about to come clean on the issue of what happened on the Foster Ranch? Were the remains of dead aliens about to be presented to the world? Not exactly, no. In fact, the military was heading into territory that was previously uncharted. Matters really began in the early part of 1993. That was when the late Steven Schiff – who was the Congressman for New Mexico at the time – approached the Department of Defense, seeking out the truth on the one alleged UFO case that just about everyone has heard of. Schiff mailed a letter to the Secretary of Defense at the time, Les Aspin. Schiff came right to the point and said: “Last fall I became aware of a strange series of events beginning in New Mexico over 45 years ago and involving personnel of what was then the Army Air Force. I have since reviewed the facts in some detail, and I am writing to request your assistance in arriving at a definitive explanation of what transpired and why.”

    (Nick Redfern)

    Roswell, New Mexico, 2017

Aspin chose not to reply to Schiff. That task was given to Colonel Larry G. Shockley, of the Air Force. Shockley informed Schiff that he had “referred this matter to the National Archives and Records Administration for direct reply to you.”  The response from the National Archives’ staff did not please Schiff or his staff: “The U.S. Air Force has retired to our custody its records on Project Blue Book relating to the investigations of unidentified flying objects. Project Blue Book has been declassified and the records are available for examination in our research room. The project closed in 1969 and we have no information after that date. We have received numerous requests concerning records relating to the Roswell incident among these records. We have not located any documentation relating to this event in Project Blue Book records, or in any other pertinent Defense Department records in our custody.”

    (Nick Redfern)

Hanging out at Roswell, New Mexico

“Passing the buck” and “given the runaround” were the terms that filled Schiff’s head when he got the news. It was news that he was far from satisfied with. That same runaround continued for weeks, and, finally, for even months. By now utterly frustrated, angry and puzzled, Schiff finally chose to take another approach. It was a very ambitious move. Schiff contacted the Government Accountability Office (at the time, it was known as the General Accounting Office), which is the investigative body of the U.S. Congress. The GAO wasted no time in planning to tackle the mystery. Its staff, however, were beaten to the finish line. By whom? By the Air Force, that’s who. Although the USAF maintained that it held no records on Roswell, when word got out that the GAO was now on the hunt for the truth behind the Foster Ranch incident, the Air Force quickly launched its very own investigation. The result of that same investigation was the publication of the aforementioned July 1994 Report of Air Force Research Regarding the Roswell Incident. It would be another year before the GAO’s conclusions were revealed, specifically on July 28, 1995.

The GAO’s National Security and International Affairs Division wrote in their finished dossier: “DOD [Department of Defense] informed us that the U.S. Air Force report of July 1994, entitled Report of Air Force Research Regarding the Roswell Incident, represents the extent of DOD records or information concerning the Roswell crash.”  The GAO continued: “The Air Force report concluded that there was no dispute that something happened near Roswell in July 1947 and that all available official material indicated the most likely source of the wreckage recovered was one of the project MOGUL balloon trains. At the time of the Roswell crash, project MOGUL was a highly classified U.S. effort to determine the state of Soviet nuclear weapons research using balloons that carried radar reflectors.” The Mogul theory is the one which is still endorsed by the U.S. Air Force to this day. It should be noted, however, that not a single shred of documentation has ever surfaced from the Air Force’s archives and which conclusively proves that the Roswell debris was from a Mogul balloon train. The Mogul theory was, and still is, simply that – a theory and nothing else.

The mainstream media pretty much accepted the explanation of the Air Force, which was the predictable outcome: UFOs rarely attract the serious attention of respected, investigative journalists. Ufologists, meanwhile, rolled their collective eyes, unsatisfied with anything that wasn’t completely pro-UFO in nature. That was pretty much predictable, too. As for the GAO, well, behind the scenes its staff were privately puzzled – even angry, in some quarters – by the fact that the Air Force had, effectively, jumped the gun. And that is certainly accurate terminology. What the Air Force was supposed to have done was to offer any and all assistance that it could to the Government Accountability Office and to hand over copies of any and all relevant Roswell-based documentation in its possession. This was the same for each and every other agency which the GAO approached, too. The list included the FBI, the National Security Agency, the Department of Defense, and the CIA. That the Air Force hastily launched its own investigation, published a report, and quickly shot down any and all explanations beyond Project Mogul, made many people within Ufology conclude that the Air Force was engaging in a sizeable amount of what is commonly known as “damage control.”

    Roswell, 2017

There are clear indications that Congressman Schiff had his suspicions that he had not been given the full, true story of what occurred at Roswell. His beef, however, was not with the GAO. In fact, Schiff personally praised the agency, calling its work on the Roswell case “professional, conscientious and thorough.” What Schiff was not happy with, were the eye-opening revelations that a massive number of records from the old Roswell Army Air Field could not be found. Not here. Not there. Not anywhere. Schiff told the press: “It is my understanding that these outgoing messages were permanent records which should never have been destroyed. The GAO could not identify who destroyed the messages, or why.”

The Roswell Bodies of 1947: “They Could Have Passed for Chinese

Although research into the Roswell affair didn’t take off big time until the mid-to-late 1970s, the 1960s were not without significance when it comes to the case. For example, in 1966, Frank Edwards’ book Flying Saucers – Serious Business was published Chapter four of the book is titled “Pick Up the Pieces.” Edwards said of the case: “There are such difficult cases as the rancher near Roswell, New Mexico, who phoned the Sheriff that a blazing disc-shaped object had passed over his house at low altitude and had crashed and burned on a hillside within view of the house. The sheriff called the military; the military came on the double quick. Newsmen were not permitted in the area. A week later, however, the government released a photograph of a service man holding up a box kite with an aluminum disc about the size of a large pie plate dangling from the bottom of the kite. This, the official report explained, was a device borne aloft on the kite and used to test radar gear by bouncing the signals off the pie pan. And this, we were told, was the sort of thing that had so excited the rancher. We were NOT told, however, how the alleged kite caught fire – nor why the military cordoned off the area while they inspected the wreckage of a burned-out kite with a non-inflammable pie pan tied to it.”

Kevin Randle said of Edwards’ version of events: “While the report was essentially correct in a gross sense, the details were nearly all wrong. But the point is that Edwards had exposed the Roswell case to a wide audience in 1966, when the book was published. Nearly everyone ignored the case because of the lack of detail, other than a location in the then small and anonymous town of Roswell.”  Only three years later, however, the Roswell story was about to surface again. Not in the pages of a book, or even in the town of Roswell itself. The location was one most would never guess: a certain living-room in England. July 21, 1969 was a day on which history was made. That was the date on which Neil Armstrong became the very first member of the human race to set foot on our nearest neighbor, the Moon. History was also made in a very different way on that day, too. It may have been different, but it was no less important. For the person telling the story, it may have been even more important. July 21 was the day on which a notable revelation concerning Roswell surfaced. Not in the United States, as one might expect or assume, but right in the heart of the U.K.

    (Nick Redfern)

The U.S. Government’s huge report on Roswell

The source of the story was Melvin E. Brown. He was a man who was stationed at the Roswell Army Air Field at the time of the mysterious crash in early July 1947. Several months later, however, Brown was given a brand new assignment. In England. It was while Brown was stationed in the United Kingdom that he met the woman who was destined to become his wife: Ada. The pair made a life for themselves in England and had three daughters. At the time of the Roswell affair, however, Brown was a sergeant in the military. Not only that, Brown – who passed away in 1986 – was a key figure in the Roswell story. Whether by accident or design, Brown chose July 21 as the day to reveal what he knew about a certain, amazing event that had occurred, back then, more than two decades earlier. One of Brown’s daughters – Beverly – said, years later: “In 1969, he told my sister and me that he was ordered to go out into the desert. He said that all available men were grabbed to go out to where a crashed saucer had come down…and there were several bodies.”

One of those who had the opportunity to interview Beverly in person was English UFO sleuth, Timothy Good, the author of the acclaimed Above Top Secret. She told him: “They had to form a ring around whatever it was they had to cover, and everything was put on trucks. They were told not to look and to take no notice, and were sworn to secrecy.”  The story then got even more amazing, as Beverley revealed: “I can remember my dad saying he couldn’t understand why they wanted refrigerated trucks. And him and another guy had to sit on the back of a truck to take this stuff to a hangar. They were packed in ice. And he lifted up the tarpaulin and looked in, and saw three – or possibly two – dead bodies.”  Tom Carey and Don Schmitt record that Beverly described the dead crew as having “big heads with slanted eyes.” In her interview with Tim Good, however, Beverly made a very intriguing and revealing statement. She said that the bodies her father saw back in ‘47 “…looked Asian [italics mine],” but had larger than normal heads and lacked any hair. “They looked a yellowy color.” There is also this from Beverly to Tim: “…they could have passed for Chinese [italics also mine].”

It is one thing to say that the bodies looked somewhat Asian; however, specifically stating that the bodies which Melvin Brown saw “could have passed for Chinese” strongly suggests they were extremely human-looking. There is a very good reason for that: they were human. Remember, too, that the “Chinese” comment was made to Beverly Bean by her father – nothing less than a first-hand witness to the bodies. And, as a first-hand source he should have known what it was that he saw. Near death in 1986, Brown told his family, “It was not a damn weather balloon.”  No, it was not a weather balloon. But, it did involve human guinea-pigs. There was not a single extraterrestrial at Roswell. That’s because all of them were human. Aliens never crashed outside of Roswell.

Another Alleged Roswell Witness Account Surfaces with Alien Details

There’s rarely a dull moment in the life of a paranormal news writer. Some weeks it’s time travelers. Other weeks it’s rock stars seeing UFOs. This week it’s Roswell witnesses. That may seem strange since the alleged crash of a spaceship in Roswell, New Mexico, occurred in 1947 and those who were or may have been involved are either deceased or well into their 90s. Yet earlier this week, recordings surfaced of what was said to be a student assistant to Albert Einstein who claimed to have accompanied him to multiple buildings in New Mexico where she claimed they saw a damaged spacecraft, five alien corpses and one living but injured alien. As people who remember fountain pens used to say, the ink was barely dry on that story when a new one surfaced – supposedly from the son of an alleged military witness to the crashed spaceship and dead aliens.

    Did they look like this?

The story comes from the Mystery Planet website and is prefaced with an explanation that the original source is a 2010 letter to the late ufologist Stanton Friedman it obtained from his personal archive after this summer’s exhibition at the Fredericton Region Museum in honor of Friedman. The letter — dated January 26, 2010 – was said to be from Shawn (last name redacted) who claimed his father was a member of the 414th Fighter Group who was brought in to see the alleged spaceship and alien corpses. ‘Shawn’ claimed his father related the story to him in 1973 – 26 years after the incident. It’s a long letter (read it here) so here are some key quotes:

“My father said they were flying “hot” (armed), and it reminded him of fighter and bomber operations during the war. He said everything was definitely out of the ordinary. When he asked what was going on, an MP told him a rocket had crash-landed on the US soil. They landed at an air base in New Mexico and took trucks and jeeps to a remote piece of land.”

“The General knew of my father’s familiarity with advanced jet aircraft, and he asked my father to take a look at the wreckage and “see what he could make of it. My father said the wreckage was unlike anything he had ever seen before.”

“After examining the remains, my father reported to the general, “Kell, it is not one of ours, that’s for sure.” Asked whether he thought it was a rocket or a jet, he replied, “Neither.” The general asked my father if he thought the Russians had done it, and my father replied, “No, unless those inscriptions inside are in Russian.”

The wreckage was loaded onto two C-54s which left for Fort Worth with combat escorts … and aliens.

“Three small bodies packed in ice were loaded aboard his plane. They told him that they were the crew of the crashed ship. The ice was melting and, according to my father, the bodies were decomposing and smelled bad. He was able to examine the bodies and obviously thought they were not from this planet. This is what he told me about what he observed:

They were humanoid, with a head, two arms, two legs, two eyes, a mouth, a nose.
They had no ears or teeth.
They were small and fragile with unusually large heads.
They had large eyes but no lids.
    They did not have genitalia.
They had six fingers on each hand.
They had skin that looked like that of a shark.
They were the perfect size and shape to fit the formed metal reclining seats he had seen among the wreckage.”

‘Shawn’ says his father kept in contact with military personnel involved with the alien spacecraft and crew, and found out it was saucer-shaped, writing on it was never deciphered, wiring was invisible to the naked eye, its materials seem to have been cultivated at the molecular level rather than manufactured, and more. Of the aliens, he says they were bioengineered robots that were fully integrated into the ship itself. They were also the source of its propulsion via “advanced form of telekinesis”. The ship appeared to have been hit by lightning, another intact ship was found, but neither could be reverse-engineered, nor could the aliens be cloned. It was also determined the ships traveled through time.

According to ‘Shawn’, his father swore him to secrecy but just before he died gave him a set of documents from what he said was a RAMP project on the propulsion system. While ‘Shawn’ could confirm that his father was associated with the Army Air Force (AAF), he could not validate the documents nor the story. It doesn’t appear that Mystery Planet could either, nor was it able to find a response to the letter, if it existed, from Stan Friedman – someone who would probably have at least acknowledged the letter.

    Stanton Friedman

One last observation from Mystery Planet that may shed some light on what to make of this story – parts of it are similar to that of Colonel Philip J. Corso, author of “The Day After Roswell,” about his alleged involvement in the research of the Roswell Incident, who also claimed the aliens were bioengineered and responsible for the ship’s propulsion.

Corso’s story has been long debated. This letter probably won’t be – unless ‘Shawn’ comes forward with the alleged secret documents.

If these things come in threes, get ready for one more Roswell story soon.

WHEN WILL WE MEET ALIENS? 3 PARAMETERS REVEAL THE TIMELINE

New research sheds light on the Fermi Paradox.

SEVENTY YEARS AGO, ITALIAN-AMERICAN nuclear physicist Enrico Fermi asked his colleagues a question during a lunchtime conversation. If life is common in our Universe, why can’t we see any evidence of its activity out there (aka. “where is everybody?”)

Seventy years later, this question has launched just as many proposed resolutions as to how extraterrestrial intelligence (ETIs) could be common, yet go unnoticed by our instruments.

Some possibilities that have been considered are that humanity might be alone in the Universe, early to the party, or is not in a position to notice any yet. But in a recent study, Robin Hanson (creator of the Great Filter) and an interdisciplinary team offer a new model for determining when the aliens will get here. According to their study, humanity is early to the Universe and will meet others in 200 million to two billion years from now.

In addition to being an associate with the Future of Humanity Institute (FHI) at Oxford University, Robin Hanson is also a professor of economics at George Mason University. He was joined by colleagues from Durham University’s Centre for Particle Theory and the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Carnegie Mellon University’s Machine Learning Department, and the international trading firm Jump Trading.

To break it down succinctly, the “grabby aliens model” assumes that civilizations are born according to a series of steps similar to what we see with the biological evolution of life here on Earth. These civilizations, which Hanson and his colleagues refer to as “grabby civilizations” (GCs), will then expand at a common rate, alter the volume of space they occupy, and prevent technologically advanced civilizations (similar to where humanity is today) from arising in these volumes. The model has three parameters, consisting of:

    1. Expansion speed (s) from the fact that we don’t see loud alien volumes in our sky,
    2. Power (n) from the history of significant events in the evolution of life on Earth,
    3. Constant (k) by assuming our date is a random sample from their appearance dates.

The model assumes that the expansion speed of alien civilizations can be estimated based on the fact that we (13.8 billion years after the Big Bang) do not detect the presence of them at this time, the amount of time it takes for advanced life to evolve (based on) and the assumption that humanity’s location in space and time is not unusual, relative to the appearance of advanced and expanding civilizations (similar to the Copernican Principle).

From this, Hanson and his team Moreover, Hanson and his colleagues were able to produce estimates on where the GCs are in our Universe, how much of the Universe they have occupied so far, and how long it will be before we encounter them.

    PARAMETER 1: “WHERE IS EVERYBODY?”

The first parameter (s) harkens back to the Fermi Paradox, as initially framed by Michael Hart and Frank Tipler), which refers to the apparent disparity between the statistical likelihood of intelligent life in our Universe and the absence of evidence for it. Within this theoretical framework, scientists are forced to find explanations for how intelligent life could be ubiquitous but has remained invisible to human instruments until now.

As noted, this has spawned various proposed resolutions over the past few decades. Some key considerations include the timeline of the Universe and the evolution of life on Earth. Current estimates indicate that the Universe is 13.8 billion years old (± 40 million years), while the Solar System and planet Earth formed roughly 4.5 billion years ago. Based on the most recent fossilized evidence, the earliest lifeforms are believed to have emerged between 4.2 and 3.8 billion years ago.

Meanwhile, humanity has only existed for the last 200,000 years of Earth’s history and has only enjoyed a level of technological development that allows for SETI surveys for about 70 years. Given the disparity between these numbers, many scientists argue that it is simple anthropocentrism to assume that humanity could be the most advanced intelligence (or worse, alone) in the Universe.

On the other hand, some argue that if intelligent species had emerged millions or billions of years before humans even existed, would they not have gone on to occupy the visible Universe to a significant extent? Does the fact that we don’t see any GCs when we look up into the night sky not support the notion that no one is out there, or at least not in a position to communicate with us yet?

Others still have argued that a 4.5 billion evolutionary timeline means that only longer-lived stars and planets could support life, such as M-type (red dwarfs). These stars are known to have incredibly long lifespans, remaining in their main sequence phase for up to trillions of years. At the same time, recent exosolar planet surveys have suggested that they are the most likely place to find rocky planets orbiting within their habitable zones (HZs). As Hanson explained to Universe Today via email:

Ninety-five percent of planets are around longer-lived stars than ours, and most live longer than a trillion years. Furthermore, advanced life like us should appear toward the end of a planet’s life, as life needs to first evolve through many stages. So we are quite early compared to when we’d expect advanced life to appear.”

So while our planet has only existed during the past 30 percent of the Universe, our evolutionary timeline corresponds to one percent of the lifespans of long-lived planets. Essentially, this means that 99 percent of advanced lifeforms in our Universe will appear after today. Add to that the fact that we do not see evidence of alien civilizations occupying the majority of the cosmos (something that becomes more likely with time), and one is left with the foregone conclusion that humanity is an “early arrival.”

    PARAMETER 2: STEPPING HARD!

The second parameter (n) is based on the notion that biological evolution can be modeled based on a number of steps. This concept was introduced by Australian physicist and Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) Brandon Carter, renowned for having coined the Anthropic Principle. In response to what he saw as the overextension of the Copernican Principle in cosmology, this principle states that the very existence of intelligent life indicates that the Universe itself is conducive to its creation.

In a 1983 study titled “The Anthropic Principle and its Implications for Biological Evolution,” Carter presented a statistical model of how civilizations like ours might arise from simple dead matter via a series of intermediate steps. Since then, many scholars have built on his model, which includes Hanson himself. In 1996, Hanson published an essay titled “The Great Filter — Are We Almost Past It?” wherein he proposed that the Fermi Paradox could be the result of one or more of these steps being improbable.

Using life on Earth as a template, Hanson argued that there were eight possible steps between the earliest known life forms and where humanity is today, with a ninth step representing our possible future. These consist of:

    1. Habitable star system (organics and habitable planets)
    2. Reproductive molecules (e.g., RNA)
    3. Prokaryotic single-cell life
    4. Eukaryotic single-cell life
    5. Sexual reproduction
    6. Multi-cell life
    7. Animals capable of using tools
    8. Industrial civilization
    9. Wide-scale colonization

With every step, the probability for failure increases, a situation that Hanson summarized using a lockpicking analogy. Imagine you have a series of locks that you need to pick before a deadline, and they have different levels of difficulty. The odds of picking all the locks before the deadline is up is a power law, where a change in one quantity gives rise to a proportional rise in another quantity.

For the sake of this study, Hanson and his colleagues reconsidered these steps, taking into account that some may take longer to achieve than others (what they group as “easy” or “hard” steps). The combination of these steps is what they referred to as the “hard steps power law,” where each step has an impact on whether or not a species could advance sufficiently before another GC occupied their space and suppressed them. As Hanson explained it:

“The timing of events in the history of life on Earth suggests that there were three to nine hard steps that life had to go through to reach our level and that most planets like ours never achieve our level before the window for life on that planet closesThus, advanced life like ours is rare. We can also see that it is rare because we don’t see any life out there at the more advanced level of making big visible impacts on the universe.
“Thus, we know there is a ‘great filter’ standing between simple dead matter and expanding lasting life. Our new analysis allows us to estimate the numerical magnitude of this filter. Advanced life at the grabby aliens level appears roughly once per million galaxies before the grabby aliens deadline.”

In other words, there is a deadline for advanced life in the Universe, where it must emerge and reach complexity before a more ancient and advanced species overtakes it. Far from placing humanity alone in the Universe, the prospect of humanity being an early arrival suggests that are plenty of GCs out there, as well as ones that have not yet reached an advanced stage of development.

“If alien civilizations randomly appear that then expand out to remake the universe, then once all of the Universe is filled with such aliens, there aren’t any places left for life to evolve toward our level,” Hanson added. “That is, ‘grabby aliens’ create a deadline by which advanced life must appear. This deadline is within a few billion years from now. Relative to that deadline, we are not early.”

    PARAMETER 3: GOING LOUD!

The final parameter (k) is based on the assumption that the time and space we occupy are representative of the norm (as noted already, the Copernican Hypothesis). According to the GC model, this is the result of a selection effect whereby advanced alien life will eventually expand to fill up the Universe. This raises the final aspect that Hanson and his team considered, which is how less-developed civilizations make the transition to become GCs — aka. go from being “quiet” to being “loud.”

Loud civilizations are so-called because they increase their volume (of space), change their volumes’ appearances (show signs of activity produce technosignatures). Quiet civilizations are those that do not increase their volumes or alter them, which effectively describes our current level of development. Given time, quiet civilizations (if they survive) will advance to the point that they too will become loud, provided they do so before the deadline passes.

With these parameters defined, Hanson and his colleagues simulated how variations in the expansion speed of GCs (s) and the time it takes for life to evolve (n) would yield different results on how many GCs were currently active in our Universe, how much of it they had come to occupy, and (as a result) when we might encounter a GC. These variables were visualized in terms of 1D and 2D diagrams (shown above) and a 3D animation (shown below).

The s parameter is especially significant since faster-expanding aliens would be more difficult to detect before they reached our doorstep. Due to the speed of light, any activity in an occupied volume of space would take thousands of years to reach us. If a GC is expanding rapidly enough, the light they generated when they first began expanding will not arrive before they do. As Hanson put it:

“At the origin date of a random civilization, about half of the universe is filled with very big visible alien civilizations. If these grew very slowly, then the sky would be full of them, huge circles in the sky, far bigger than the full moon. However, if they grew at the speed of light, then we wouldn’t see them until they got here.
If they grew very fast, such as at over half of the speed of light, then most of the places that could see them would be places where they had arrived and colonized and changed. That is, if we could see them, then they would likely be here instead of us. In which case, we would not exist.”

ALIENS: WHEN DO WE MEET THEM?

Ultimately, the results Hans and his team obtained indicated the following range of possibilities:

    • GCs (or “loud” civilizations) emerge from quiet ones at a rate of about once per million galaxies
    • They expand and increase their volume at about half the speed of light
    • They currently control 40-50 percent of the Universe’s volume
    • Each GC will eventually control 105 – 3 x 107 (100,000 to 30 million) galaxies

Last but certainly not least, they estimated that humanity is likely to encounter the nearest GC roughly 200 million to two billion years from now. In the meantime, their modeling also indicates that the odds of humanity detecting signs of technological activity (aka. “technosignatures”) are very low. As Hanson explained, this could be bad for those engaged in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI).

“Once per million galaxies is very rare, and if grabby aliens were the only kinds to see, then the chances for SETI to see any aliens nearby would be very low,” he said. “However, it may be that there are many times more ‘quiet’ alien civilizations out there. The higher the ratio of quiet to grabby aliens civilizations, the closer might be the nearest quiet aliens to be found.”

Conversely, the fewer quiet civilizations out there (relative to GCs) right now, the higher our future chances of becoming a GC ourselves. Alas, this prospect also lowers the odds of us detecting and observing alien civilizations in our galaxy. In fact, the model Hanson and his colleagues created predicts that the “quiet-to-grabby ratio” needs to be over 10,000 to 1 for us to realistically expect that even one quiet civilization has ever been active in the history of our galaxy (ca. 13.5 billion years).

That ratio needs to be as high as 10 million to one for us to expect that any alien civilizations with a million-year lifetime are active right now in our galaxy. While none of these outcomes are particularly encouraging for SETI researchers, the research team notes that it’s possible that the volumes of space occupied by GCs are more subtle in appearance and that their expansion speed is slower. In this case, they estimate that we can predict there being signs in the night sky.

Another positive takeaway from this research is the fact that this sort of modeling is now possible. Whereas early SETI efforts were guided by conjectures that were subject to a lot of uncertainty (like the Drake Equation), we now have enough data on the types of stars and exoplanets in our Universe that we can make educated inferences.

“It’s exciting that we’re here now,” said Hanson. “We’re no longer speculating about aliens; we are reasonably sure they exist, and we can say where they are in spacetime. We have a simple statistical model that says where they are, what they are doing, and where we might see or meet them.”

ISIS Project: An Alien Mummy Discovered in Egypt?

One of the most shocking and controversial videos in history. A small clip of a supposed secret mission of the ISIS Project, from the former Soviet Union, where they recover the remains of an «alien mummy».

The images show the alleged expedition of the ISIS Project

According to different researchers, the KGB had created the ISIS Project to search for the mummified corpse of an “ancient astronaut” called “The Visitor.”

This being would have visited the Egyptians in ancient times, giving them knowledge and advanced technology that helped them grow as a civilization.

ISIS Project What is behind this event?

The Ancient Astronaut theory suggests that, in the remote past, extraterrestrial beings visited ancient civilizations and helped them develop. Thus the leap to modern civilization was made.

These ancient societies made such drastic advances, and in such a short time , that they reached standards never seen before. The proof of this are the monuments that persist even today. These are possibly the strongest proof that they received alien assistance.

Even so, there are many skeptics who discredit the ISIS Project, assuring that it is nothing more than an invention. However, 1998, Sci-Fi TV released a documentary titled The Secret KGB Abduction Files, which could prove its veracity.

The documentary shows black and white images of the expedition to the Egyptian desert in search of the “Visitor’s Tomb”, as the website UFO International Project called it.

The Soviets launched Project ISIS during the Cold War in 1960 . The mission was to obtain the remains of “The Visitor”, as well as the hidden technological artifacts and manuscripts.

They were convinced that advanced military science and technology existed within that information, which would give it an advantage over the United States.

The main motivation of the Soviet Union was to ” match ” the North American country in terms of technology. Well, they were convinced that they had obtained advanced technology thanks to the Roswell incident .

The Soviet mission included Egyptologists, scientists, engineers, and military specialists from the Soviet Academy of Sciences. This team found the body of an alien inside a 13,000-year-old ancient Egyptian tomb .

Was an alien mummy really found?

The story of the “alien grave”

The tomb was discovered accidentally by native Bedouins who became ill and died after opening the tomb. Based on that story, Egyptian officials suspected that he might have technological artifacts and manuscripts with advanced knowledge.

For the time, the Soviet Union and Egypt were allies. Fearing that the United States would obtain information about the tomb, the Egyptians decided to inform the Soviets and assist them in the search.

Sami Sharaf, a close associate of Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser , was the head of the ISIS Project. The images documenting the expedition were obtained through a Russian intermediary linked to the mafia.

The source claimed, in turn, that he obtained the tape from agents who had access to KGB documents.

The video shows when the team entered the tomb , trying to open the sarcophagus without any protective suit.

When the agent lifted the lid, a cloud of dust emanated from inside. The men immediately withdrew, only to return minutes later wearing protective suits and gas masks.

The men recovered the “two meter tall” alien body. Artifacts and manuscripts were also recovered from the tomb, which tell the story of the return of a “Winged Deity.”

Those responsible for Sci-Fi TV stated that forensic experts analyzed and confirmed the veracity of the video. Although skeptics defended themselves that, even if the video was authentic, it is likely that they were opening the sarcophagus of a king.

Strange Encounters with Bizarre Metal Men and Robotic Humanoids

Supposed alien encounters really run the range of the weird. We have everything from the ubiquitous “Greys,” to Reptilians, Nordic humanoids, and many others. At times it seems that we have a menagerie of different alien species allegedly going about their business on our world, but some of these are even weirder than most. Here we will look at a selection of cases of what seem to be inscrutable and very alien robotic humanoids or metal men of some sort, and they are quite the rare and very bizarre type of alien encounter, indeed.

On the evening of March 17th, 1978, a man by the name of Ken Edwards was driving to his home in Warrington, England from his job as a service engineer. It was a long, lonely stretch of road, with few cars and nothing but the lane lines flickering by, but as he stared ahead with his mind off on other things, something very bizarre would bloom out from the night to change his life forever and go on to become one of the weirdest humanoid encounters there is. As he drove along the M62 motorway past the nuclear facility in the nearby district of Risley, he noticed some movement on a nearby embankment, and when he slowed down to get a better look, he could see that it was a massive humanoid figure, 7 or 8 feet in height, and that it was walking in a robotic, disjointed fashion. As it came ambling closer to his headlights, he could see that it was even more bizarre than he had thought, covered in what looked like silver skin, with a black, featureless mask of some kind, glowing eyes, and two small arms that jutted out directly from its chest. Edwards would claim that he had the strong sense that this was some sort of otherworldly robotic humanoid, and it would only get stranger from there.

The humanoid was apparently not afraid of him or the bright headlights, indeed stepping over to the vehicle to loom there right on the road in front of him and stare with those inscrutable glowing eyes. Edwards was nearly mesmerized at this point, not knowing whether to sit there and stare right back or get out of there, and then some sort of beams of light pierced forth from the thing’s eyes to hit him, paralyzing and disorienting him in the process. He tried to get his body to move, but could not even budge his finger, and he was now overcome with a profound sense of terror. He could only move his eyes, and upon feeling a tingling in his hands he looked down to see that they were red and raw, as if he had a bad sunburn. The entity transfixed him with those beams for some time before it suddenly turned away and lumbered off towards a security fence, giving Edwards back the control of his body. Edwards at this point tried to call for help on a transistor radio he kept in his car, but found that it was completely fried. He turned his attention back to the metallic creature and the weirdness would continue.

The metal entity stood at the security fence for several moments, studying it, and then moved forward. Edwards was sure the hulking thing was about to smash physically through the fence with brute force, but it instead stepped through it, passing right through like a ghost. It then ambled off up a hill on the other side into the night. Edwards sat there for some time trying to process what he had just seen, and then took off in his car, arriving at home to find that he had one hour of missing time that he could not account for. Oddly, his watch had also stopped at roughly the time he had met the strange entity. His wife woke up and saw him standing there, trembling and obviously frightened, and when she asked him what had happened, he told her about the “Silver Man” he had seen. They ended up deciding that he should contact the authorities about what had happened, driving to the nearest police station to spin the whole yarn to the visibly skeptical officers. At first, they dismissed it entirely, but Edwards seemed so sincere and so genuinely scared that they decided to check it out just in case there really was some trespasser at the nuclear facility, alien or not. A search of the area where the metallic being had appeared would turn up nothing, and Edwards went home with his mind still reeling from the whole otherworldly incident. Unfortunately for him, the ordeal was far from over.

Over the following days Edwards would develop some black marks on his hands where the burns had been, as well as nausea and headaches. In the meantime, the site would be combed by police and security forces at the facility, and they would turn up an odd oval shaped patch of dead, flattened grass, as well as a dead rabbit just lying there pristinely upon the ground with no discernible physical injuries. It was unknown if either of these things had anything to do with the humanoid that Edwards had seen, but it was all undeniably eerie and creepy. The police would end up just sort of shrugging their shoulders and moving on, but for Edwards it wasn’t over yet.

On March 23, 1978, Edwards went back to the location of his strange encounter along with an independent UFO researcher, and while they were there Edwards was immediately uncomfortable and gripped by a sense of panic. He managed to keep his composure and go out to investigate, and that was when he allegedly saw the same entity standing off on a nearby hill. It seemed to be staring right at him, and then it simply vanished into thin air. Not long after this, on April 2, 1978, Edwards and his wife were driving through the area when he was again hit with an inexplicable sense of panic and fear. He felt compelling to bring the vehicle to a stop, and as he walked outside, he was hit with a wave of terror that sent him scrambling back into the car to speed off. The final incident would be when he was woken by a deep hum on April 12, after which he searched for its source even as it gained in intensity, but he could find nothing to account for it. He would later find that two neighbors had also heard the hum and had seen a red UFO in the sky. The whole story would bring a whole lot of unwanted attention to Edwards and his family. As soon as the news hit the stands, his house was besieged with reporters and curiosity seekers, to the point that it affected his life and strained his marriage. After this, he would come down with a mysterious illness that left him with stomach pains and almost bedridden. He would eventually be diagnosed with cancer, which would ultimately take his life.

This seems in some ways similar to another weird case that comes from 1973, in the U.S. state of Alabama near the small town of Falkville. On October 17, 1973, a panicked woman called into police to report that she had seen a UFO land in a field right outside of town, and an incredulous police officer named Jeff Greenhaw went off to investigate, no doubt thinking that he was dealing with some nutcase. He arrived at the scene at around 10 PM, not really expecting to find much, and at first he didn’t. The field held no spaceship, nor any sign of one, but the lady who had called was frantically insisting that not only had a UFO really landed, but that there was an alien running around out there in the woods. Greenhaw thought that at the very least there might be in intruder prowling about, so he did a sweep of the area. Little did he know that this intruder would be far stranger than anything he had imagined. As he peered into the darkness and shone his flashlight about, he noticed someone standing off the side of the road, but when he looked in its direction he saw that this was no normal man. The figure seemed to be completely covered with some shiny substance that looked somewhat like tin foil, with an antenna on its head, and Greenhaw would even take a photo of it. He would say of the creature:

It looked like his head and neck were kind of made together… he was real bright, something like rubbing mercury on nickel, but just as smooth as glass; different angles give different lighting. I don’t believe it was aluminum foil.

    Alleged photo of the entity

This figure seemed to move in a rather disjointed, mechanical way, giving the impression that it was almost robotic in nature, and wanting to see it in better light, Greenhaw trained his vehicle’s headlights on it. This apparently set the entity into a panic, and it ran off at great speed, after which Greenhaw started up his car and pursued it right through a field. The officer went as fast as the terrain could allow, but the creature he had seen and was chasing was reportedly amazingly fast, far faster than any human, and he eventually lost it when it bolted off into some trees. In the days after his encounter, Greenhaw would come forward with his account, which would make him a laughing stock, the object of ridicule, and cost him his job.

Was this some sort of alien robot, perhaps used as a probe by its inscrutable handlers? It reminds me of a similar case of seemingly robotic aliens that is made all the odder in that it predates it by over 50 years. The bizarro case supposedly occurred in 1924, in Pasco County, in the state of Florida, and which was related in 1974 by an elderly witness named Evelyn Wendt, who claimed that this had happened to her when she was a girl. She said that she had been playing outside on the grounds of St. Joseph school when she had noticed an egg shaped object nearby that glowed so intensely and brightly that she had to cover her eyes at first, but it then supposedly suddenly dimmed to reveal some sort of saucer shaped metal craft. As she stood there staring wide-eyed at the strange sight, a small door suddenly opened to disgorge a procession of rather bizarre creatures, and Wendt would say of them thus:

Little people emerged. I think they were robots. I tried to count them, but they changed about so. They were smaller than I was and resembled animated flowers with faces where the bud would be.

These truly bizarre “robotic sunflowers” were apparently hoisting a sinister looking machine of some sort, which Wendt instinctively sensed was a weapon of some kind, and which they also seemed to be setting up to aim towards the school’s science building. It was at about this time that the witness claimed the entities communicated with her telepathically, telling her that they intended to destroy the science building because there were dangerous experiments going on in there behind closed doors. Bizarrely, they then suddenly changed their minds, and began to file back into the craft as they invited their human companion to come along. She refused, but they supposedly promised to come back for her in later years. Wendt would say of what happened:

They promised to come back for me in 35 years, but that was a long time ago and nothing happened that I know of. All I can remember now is that the saucer was leaden-looking and very pockmarked. Then, when it started up, its molecules expanded and it turned silvery bright. The UFO then went straight up, hovered a minute, and disappeared from sight.

UFO researchers in later years sought to bring out any other details through hypnosis, but Wendt proved impossible to hypnotize. Bizarrely, the science building of the school at one point was destroyed by unspecified means, leading one to think that maybe the robo-flowers had come back to finish the job. What in the world was going on here? In all of these cases we are dealing with something removed from the typical Grey aliens and anything seemingly biological at all. There has been the speculation that aliens might choose to send robots instead of actual beings, so is that is what is going on here? Are these perhaps robotic alien entities, of which I have written about before? Or is it perhaps some sort of interdimensional interlopers or something else entirely? Is it perhaps even just figments of the imagination or hoaxes? Whatever they are, they truly earn their place as among the stranger alien encounter stories out there.

New Anonymous: You Need To Hear This "They Have Been Here All Along" (2021)

Extraterrestrial life is hypothetical life that may occur outside Earth and which did not originate on Earth. Such life might range from simple prokaryotes (or comparable life forms) to intelligent beings and even sapient beings, possibly bringing forth civilizations that might be far more advanced than humanity. The Drake equation speculates about the existence of sapient life elsewhere in the universe.

The science of extraterrestrial life in all its forms is known as astrobiology. Since the mid-20th century, active ongoing research has taken place to look for signs of extraterrestrial life. This encompasses a search for current and historic extraterrestrial life, and a narrower search for extraterrestrial intelligent life. Depending on the category of search, methods range from the analysis of telescope and specimen data to radios used to detect and send communication signals. The concept of extraterrestrial life, and particularly extraterrestrial intelligence, has had a major cultural impact, chiefly in works of science fiction.

Over the years, science fiction communicated scientific ideas, imagined a wide range of possibilities, and influenced public interest in and perspectives of extraterrestrial life. One shared space is the debate over the wisdom of attempting communication with extraterrestrial intelligence. Some encourage aggressive methods to try for contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life. Others—citing the tendency of technologically advanced human societies to enslave or wipe out less advanced societies—argue that it may be dangerous to actively call attention to Earth.

The idea of ETs decimates other UFO explanations

One can see in the comments from our guy Daniel here and others, along with the UFO overlay at Facebook among the groups disposed to the phenomenon, that the extraterrestrial explanation, no matter how disguised or subterfugic it seems, is the belief of most, if not all, UFOers.
Such propositions that UFOs may be visiting from time, parallel worlds, crypto-beings, inherent or intrinsic hidden races from Earth, simulated constructs, holographic concoctions and other bizarre stimuli or realities are besoaked by the easier accepted concept of space-traveling alien species.

The extensive wave of ET fiction, TV shows, movies, and now social media chatter have engulfed all other proposals to explain the phenomenon, even though the idea of beings from other worlds extant in our Galaxy or the vast Universe is almost preposterous, almost.
Yes, truly advanced. Extraterrestrials could conquer space and time, and could be obsessed with our planet enough to visit in inordinate numbers, year after year, since ancient times.

This would mean that the visiting ETs would be as advanced in madness or mental disorder as much as they were or are advanced in technology or curiosity.
After all, we humans are as mad or more so than such visitors by believing that they have come here in droves for eons just to watch us, and that’s all.

Down deep, most UFOers want the phenomenon to be ET spacecraft. Why? There are innumerable reasons.
But that sub-surface desire has curbed real innovative speculation and research, allowing the superficial and almost ignorant assumption that UFOs are ET space ships.
“To go where no one has gone before” is not a maxim that UFOers wish to adopt; it’s too intellectually straining for them.
    Yet there it is …

Two Newly Identified Galaxies Could Be Home to Hyper-Intelligent Alien Life

According to an Inverse report, a team of astronomers led by Leiden University researcher Hongying Chen is actively searching the skies for advanced alien life forms.

They’re looking for infrared signals that could be the exhaust emissions of hypothetical Dyson spheres, which are massive megastructures that harness the energy of the surrounding universe. Their new paper focuses on two distant galaxies whose infrared emissions have previously eluded simple explanation.

In search of super-intelligent alien life

Is there any life out there? According to the Fermi Paradox, it is extremely likely, given that there are billions of stars in the Milky Way alone, many of which have planets orbiting in habitable zones. Despite this, we have found no evidence of intelligent alien life. New discoveries, such as the recent discovery that Mars has always been too small to retain surface water, are constantly changing our understanding of the likelihood of discovering intelligent life in the far reaches of space.

Chen and his colleagues believe that if there is life out there, the most likely way to find it is to look for the traces of the most advanced civilizations. They are specifically looking for Kardashev Type III civilization (K3) lifeforms. The Kardashev scale was proposed in 1964 by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev as a way to measure the level of technological advancement of a hypothetical civilization based on the amount of energy it can harness from the surrounding universe.

As the most advanced type of alien civilization, K3 lifeforms are at the top of the scale. According to the scale, they would be able to harness the energy of black holes, stars, and quasars using technologies similar to the hypothetical Dyson sphere — a massive structure that could surround a celestial object such as a star without collapsing. It’s worth noting that humans aren’t even considered Type 1 yet, as that would necessitate us efficiently harnessing the power of the Sun. Chen and his colleagues scanned a portion of the Northern Sky for galaxies that could be home to K3 alien lifeforms. So far, two galaxies have stood out among the 21 they have studied. They describe their findings in a paper published in the Royal Astronomical Society’s Monthly Notices.

Narrowing down an infinitely broad investigation

The researchers behind the new study believe they can detect a Type III civilization by looking for mid-infrared emissions in the sky. These, they believe, could be telltale signs of advanced alien races emitting Dyson Spheres — Chen’s team writes in their paper that K3 civilizations are likely to “generate strong excess emission in the mid-infrared (MIR) that is associated with the waste heat they generate.” The researchers examined the emissions of 21 galaxies with high mid-infrared emissions and discovered that four of them had mid-infrared emissions that were multiplied by a factor of ten. One of these was an active galactic nucleus, and the other was a star-forming galaxy, indicating that they are natural sources of mid-infrared emissions. The other two galaxies, known as ILT J134649.72+542621.7 and ILT J145757.90+565323.8, however, are not so easily explained, and the researchers say they “require further investigation.”

The researchers’ next goal is to pinpoint the precise source of the infrared emissions. “We can look at their emissions in other wavelengths like X-ray and optical to see if their spectral energy distribution is active galactic nuclei-like or star-forming-galaxy-like,” Chen explained in an interview with Inverse. “We can also conduct high-resolution radiological observations on them to examine their morphology.” They also intend to scan other parts of the sky for possible signs of hyper-advanced alien life.
