Exoplanet Biosignatures: Will We Be Able to Recognize Extraterrestrial Life If We See It?

NExSS considered how to interpret the presence of biosignatures, should we detect them on extrasolar planets.
“We’re moving from theorizing about life elsewhere in our Milky Way Galaxy to a robust science that will eventually give us the answer we seek to that profound question: Are we alone?” said Dr. Martin Still, an exoplanet scientist at NASA Headquarters.
The assessment comes as a new generation of space and ground-based telescopes are in development.
The NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope will characterize the atmospheres of some of the first small, rocky planets.
Other observatories — such as the Giant Magellan Telescope and the Extremely Large Telescope — are planning to carry sophisticated instruments capable of detecting the first exoplanet biosignatures.
Through their work, NExSS scientists aim to identify the instruments needed to detect potential life for future NASA missions.
The detection of atmospheric signatures of a few potentially habitable planets may possibly come before 2030, although whether the planets are truly habitable or have life will require more in-depth study.
Since humans won’t be able to visit distant planets and collect samples anytime soon, the light that a telescope observes will be all we have in the search for extraterrestrial life.
Telescopes can examine the light reflecting off a distant world to show us the kinds of gases in the atmosphere and their ‘seasonal’ variations, as well as colors like green that could indicate life.
These kinds of biosignatures can all be seen on our fertile Earth from space, but the new worlds we examine will differ significantly.
For example, many of the promising planets astronomers have found are around cooler stars, which emit infrared light, rather than our Sun’s high emissions of visible-light.
“What does a living planet look like? We have to be open to the possibility that life may arise in many contexts in a galaxy with so many diverse worlds — perhaps with purple-colored life instead of the familiar green-dominated life forms on Earth, for example. That’s why we are considering a broad range of biosignatures,” explained Dr. Mary Parenteau, an astrobiologist and microbiologist at NASA’s Ames Research Center.
The NExSS scientists assert that oxygen — the gas produced by photosynthetic organisms on Earth — remains the most promising biosignature of life elsewhere, but it is not foolproof. Abiotic processes on a planet could also generate oxygen.
“On early Earth, we wouldn’t be able to see oxygen, despite abundant life,” said Dr. Victoria Meadows, an astronomer at the University of Washington in Seattle.
“Oxygen teaches us that seeing, or not seeing, a single biosignature is insufficient evidence for or against life — overall context matters.”
Rather than measuring a single characteristic, the researchers argue that we should be looking at a suite of traits.
A planet must show itself capable of supporting life through its features, and those of its parent star.
The NExSS team will create a framework that can quantify how likely it is that a planet has life, based on all the available evidence.
With the observation of many planets, astronomers may begin to more broadly classify the ‘living worlds’ that show common characteristics of life, versus the ‘non-living worlds.’
“We won’t have a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer to finding life elsewhere. What we will have is a high level of confidence that a planet appears alive for reasons that can only be explained by the presence of life,” said Dr. Shawn Domagal-Goldman, an astrobiologist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

During the time, the Egyptians didn’t understand the precise duration of a year, or even when the summertime solstice.

“Around 85% of the rock used in the development of the pyramids was fairly soft sandstone. It was quarried right on the spot.”
I don’t know about you, but when I’m not busy researching or reading about strange phenomena, I like to kick back and enjoy a TV show or movie about some of my favorite subjects –– whether it’s catching Ancient Aliens, Curse of Oak Island or Finding Bigfoot during the week or making time on the weekends to watch an oldie but a goodie from the Area 51 movie archives.
Here are some of our favorites that, like the UFOs they describe, have flown under the radar. All three are based on true stories.
The crash at Roswell, for many UFOlogists, is the grandaddy of the whole phenomena. Whatever happened back on Mac Brazel’s New Mexico ranch back in 1947 touched off a series of events that forever changed the way we look at the skies, as well as how we look at our own government.
This is a serious film with serious actors. Kyle MacLachlan and Martin Sheen each do an outstanding job with the material which is presented in a series of flashbacks at a military reunion 30 years after the crash. The storytelling is intelligent and compelling; this isn’t a dry documentary. If you care about why Roswell was such a big deal, you need to see this movie.
If you don’t know Whitley Strieber, you owe it to yourself to check him out. He’s the author of horror/paranormal classics The Wolfen (werewolves) and The Hunger (vampires) as well as the book behind this movie, Communion. But Communion isn’t a work of fiction, or is it?
Christopher Walken, Haunting in Communion
In Communion, published as non-fiction, Strieber claims he was abducted from his cabin in upstate New York on the evening of December 26, 1985 by non-human beings who may or may not have been of extraterrestrial origin. Although the book is seen as an account of alien abduction, Strieber himself merely refers to the beings as “the visitors,” a name meant to suggest that the beings witnessed as part of these events may exist in reality or only in his own mind—a twist worthy of Philip K. Dick.
The movie is bizarre, disturbing and deeply uncomfortable to watch, which is precisely why you need to see it. If you have even a passing interest in the alien abduction phenomenon or in the permeable veil between sanity and insanity, you will enjoy Communion. Plus, it stars one of the most bizarre and haunting actors of all time, Christopher Walken, in the main role.

Fire in the Sky is a completely different look at the UFO abduction phenomenon. Where Communion is cerebral and introspective, Fire in the Sky is grounded in the real world of human jealousy, rivalry and frailty.
In 1975, Travis Walton was driving home from his logging job in the White Mountains of Arizona with some of his co-workers. That evening, they encountered an unidentified object in the sky. Walton gets out of the truck to have a look and is struck by a beam of light from the object, sending him flying backwards with great force. His co-workers flee the scene; when they later return, Walton is missing.
What ensues is a cross between a missing persons investigation and a murder mystery, with back-and-forth between the police and the loggers who stick to their UFO story. Walton finally turns up days later alive—naked, dehydrated and babbling—at a gas station.
We finally learn Walton’s ominous fate in a horrifying flashback to what happened aboard the craft. It is everything that alien abduction nightmares are made of.

But, Seriously, Where Are the Aliens?
Humanity may be as few as 10 years away from discovering evidence of extraterrestrial life. Once we do, it will only deepen the mystery of where alien intelligence might be hiding.
Enrico Fermi was an architect of the atomic bomb, a father of radioactivity research, and a Nobel Prize–winning scientist who contributed to breakthroughs in quantum mechanics and theoretical physics. But in the popular imagination, his name is most commonly associated with one simple, three-word question, originally meant as a throwaway joke to amuse a group of scientists discussing UFOs at the Los Alamos lab in 1950: Where is everybody?
Fermi wasn’t the first person to ask a variant of this question about alien intelligence. But he owns it. The query is known around the world as the Fermi paradox. It’s typically summarized like this: If the universe is unfathomably large, the probability of intelligent alien life seems almost certain. But since the universe is also 14 billion years old, it would seem to afford plenty of time for these beings to make themselves known to humanity. So, well, where is everybody?
In the seventh episode of Crazy/Genius, a new podcast from The Atlantic on tech, science, and culture, we put the question to several experts, including Ellen Stofan, the former chief scientist of nasa and current director of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum; Adam Frank, a writer and astrophysicist at the University of Rochester; Anders Sandberg, a scientist and futurist at the University of Oxford; and Tim Urban, the science essayist at Wait But Why.
Proposed solutions to Fermi’s Paradox fit into three broad categories.
One: They’re nowhere—and no-when.
Aliens don’t exist, and they never have. This scenario might have seemed more likely in the universe imagined by Aristotle and Ptolemy—a small assortment of celestial orbs spinning around a singular Earth. But that isn’t the universe anybody lives in. After searching the skies for Earthlike planets for centuries, cosmologists have, in the last two decades, broken open the cosmic piñata. Today they estimate as many as 500 billion billion sunlike stars, with 100 billion billion Earthlike planets. The more we learn about the universe, the more absurd it would seem if all but one of those bodies were bereft of life. To my mind, this is both the least likely answer to Fermi’s Paradox and the only one that fits all the evidence currently available to astrophysicists.
Two: Life is out there—but intelligence isn’t.
Ellen Stofan predicts that we’ll find evidence of simple life on Mars or a faraway moon within the next 10 to 30 years. But she’s imagining something more like microbes or algae, not underwater cities in the liquid-methane lakes of Titan. This shifts the question from “Where is everybody?” to a more sophisticated query: Whatprecisely is keeping an infinitude of dumb molecules from assembling to form an abundance of intelligent life?
Think about all the factors that add up to the creation of a human. First the spark of life, followed by the creation of simple cells, then complex multicellular organisms, then the formation of organs like brains. If humanlike intelligence is rare, one of these steps must be quite insurmountable. For example, it’s notable that Earth has several million species of life, but only one has produced a civilization—that we know of. The relative silence of the universe suggests some kind of “Great Filter” that is restricting the creation of more intelligent beings. More ominously, some scientists think it’s possible that this Great Filter isn’t in our distant past, but rather in our future; so, it’s not that intelligent life is rare, but rather that it pops into existence for a few thousand years before getting wiped out of existence for mysterious reasons.
Three: Intelligent life is abundant—but quiet.
This possibility, known as the zoo hypothesis, invites some of the strangest speculation. Maybe humanity is still so basic and primitive that advanced civilizations don’t think we’re worth talking to. Or maybe those other civilizations have learned that broadcasting their existence leads to extermination at the hands of violent, intergalactic colonizers. Or maybe our solar system just happens to be located in a quiet, exurban cul-de-sac of the universe, an accident of cosmic geography. But none of these theories hold a candle to my favorite conjecture of all: slumbering digital aliens. Stellar harvesting! If this were a movie, the opening would show a scientist played by Jeff Goldblum peering into a telescope, then looking up, rubbing his eyes, peering in again, then looking up again with a suitably concerned face, turning to a scientist played by Jodie Foster and saying, “You need to take a look at this!” In the real-life version, “this” is a Dyson sphere – one of those alien-built megastructures imagined to be large enough to surround a star and harvest its energy – except “this” is actually “these” … and it may not be your imagination.
Are Aliens Harvesting The Energy Of Stars?
Theoretical astrophysicist Dan Hooper from the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory has written a new study entitled “Life Versus Dark Energy: How An Advanced Civilization Could Resist the Accelerating Expansion of the Universe” in which he lays out the scenario of how and why …
“… a sufficiently advanced civilization would chose to expand rapidly outward, build Dyson Spheres or similar structures around encountered stars, and use the energy that is harnessed to accelerate those stars away from the approaching horizon and toward the center of the civilization.”
“A sufficiently advanced civilization” – well, Hopper isn’t talking about us. But … is he talking about a civilization that already exists and is collecting star power to navigate the galaxies, potentially conquer the universe and possibly save themselves? The “saving” part is what he focuses on in the paper. Hooper points out that the universe is expanding and that growth is accelerating, which means civilizations, us included, will start seeing stars disappear over the horizon of the universe (a great name for a progressive rock album) like ships on the ocean.
Hopper sees this as a big problem and he sees Dyson spheres as the energy harvesting tool of choice for advanced civilizations. It makes sense. We have to wait a whole eight minutes for solar energy to reach Earth. Just think how much power we’d have with a Dyson sphere around the Sun? Sure, it would block the light (see Tabby’s star) but it would provide power for plenty of lamps, not to mention ships to find more stars to suck the energy out of.

If this is already happening, Hopper says we would know it because there would be unexplained holes in the sky where there should be stars. Or stars inexplicably moving across the sky because they’re being propelled by their Dyson sphere spaceship to the star of the advanced civilization. The fact that we haven’t seen any yet doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t exist. The process may just be too complex for our less-advanced civilization to detect.
Yes, this is very sci-fi. Or is it? Anyone? Bueller? Tabby?

Daniel Nemes scientist and inventor, originally from Spain but residing in Colombia, since he was 14 years old he became interested in astronomy and science. He was a member of the astronomical group of Madrid, Spain.
He says that the project started when he read an article in a magazine about the Dark Matter of the universe and the multidimensional universe momentarily interested him and called attention so he had the initiative to perform mathematical calculations and optical experiments to be able to capture images of ” the beyond”.
He discovered a method of capturing far superior to infrared, ultraviolet, black light, video camera with TV without antenna, etc. And that method I call ENERGIVISION . I use special lenses, ultrasensitive screens of his invention and above all sunlight. The images that he captures are of unknown origin. He explains that his theory is that they are images of other planes. However he says he has not traveled to other places to expose the invention. He has tried to make known to the scientific community and only answered a scientific body of the USA and in a rude way. The media have ignored and silenced the discovery along with the images captured.
Daniel Nemes says: “The only way I have to publicize my invention and the captures are by Facebook, since 2015 I have posted 1000 photos on my facebook. When I started to publish my images on my social network I had a lot of rejection, it was very hard and even insults towards me, fortunately my images are now more known and when I post on my facebook or in other groups it is rare to receive a disqualification or insult ” .

FBI Confirms Aliens Exist
FBI Confirms Existence Of Extraterrestrial Life.
In a recently leaked memo, the FBI has confirmed the existence of extraterrestrial life, though the claim is now being denied by the bureau. However, despite their denial, there is still plenty of evidence that is out there that shows that aliens do in fact exist and they have visited our planet, possibly for quite some time.
The memo is from the early 1950’s and talks about a UFO being discovered by the government in New Mexico. Of course, in typical fashion the FBI has denied it, claiming it to be a fabricated hoax designed to mislead the public, but we know better now. More and more evidence is coming out that proves UFO’s exist and that we have been visited by alien lifeforms.
UFO Encounter.
A recent video from the government shows footage of fighter pilots encountering a UFO with a disk-like shape. The fact that the government would even release such footage is proof enough that there are aliens out there interacting with humans, and based on how advanced their flight technology is, they have been visiting us for quite some time.
Watch the video closely and you will notice that the disk-like object moves in a way that a normal aircraft could not, and there is no other explanation than the object being an advanced piece of alien technology that is well beyond our comprehension.
The Secret Pentagon UFO Program.
When you think about it, it makes total sense that our government has been lying to us. If the public knew about what was really going on behind closed doors with regards to alien life, we would collectively freak out. Additionally, a former top Pentagon official confirmed the existence of a top-secret government program to track UFO’s, called the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program.
The former Pentagon official, Luis Elizondo, recently spoke with CNN about the inner workings of the program and how the unidentified aircraft discovered by the program is unlike anything that has ever been seen on earth.
He went on to explain that these aircraft could seemingly defy the laws of aerodynamics and contained advanced technology. Here we have a former government worker finally telling us the truth and confirming our long-held suspicions. The Pentagon tried to hide the existence of this program, despite the fact that it received over 22 million dollars annually as part of the budget, but now we know the truth.
The American public is scared to admit that these cases continue to crop up and that the alien visitations are increasing in number and stature.
Tom DeLonge, known for his work in Blink-182, quit the band so that he could focus all of his energy on proving the aliens exist. Tom has gotten himself into deep trouble with the government, but he has overwhelming evidence that supports the fact that we have been visited by aliens. He recently went on the Joe Rogan podcast to talk about it. Tom is staking his professional career on finding evidence that aliens exist and that our government has been concealing their existence for quite some time.
CIA Releases Over 13 Million Pages Of Declassified Documents.
The CIA recently released over 13 million pages worth of previously classified documents, with many of them talking about the existence of UFO’s. How can it be a conspiracy when both the FBI and CIA talk about UFO’s and alien technology? It is clear that they are withholding even more material than what has been released. The fact that they continually reference UFO’s in these documents is yet another piece of evidence that proves aliens exist and have visited our planet recently.
Detractors who have labeled these truth seekers as conspiracy theorists will be happy to know that the declassified documents also show the existence of the CIA’s Stargate program, which attempted to use the power of psychic phenomena for use in military and espionage. For a long time, many people refused to believe the program existed, labeling it as a conspiracy theory. However, the truth will always see the light, so it was only a matter of time before these revelations became public.

To offset a future cosmic energy shortage caused by the accelerating expansion of the universe, a super-advanced civilization could pluck stars from other galaxies and bring them home, theoretical astrophysicist Dan Hooper proposes June 13 at arXiv.org.
It’s a far-out idea, tackling a dilemma in a future so distant that human beings can hardly fathom it: 100 billion years from now, each neighborhood of the universe will be marooned as if on a cosmic island, with resources from the rest of the universe inaccessible. “We’ll be in this very dark, lonely place where we won’t be able to see other galaxies,” says theoretical astrophysicist Katie Mack of North Carolina State University in Raleigh. That isolation is thanks to a mysterious “dark energy” that is causing the universe to expand faster and faster (SN: 4/7/01, p. 218).
Advanced societies might be able to harness the energy of stars by surrounding them with giant, hypothetical structures called Dyson spheres (SN: 4/24/10, p. 22). But the expansion will eventually make it impossible to reach stars outside the civilization’s home turf. Aliens that possess such technology might want to maximize energy reserves by sending spaceships to retrieve stars before the cosmic isolation sets in. Each star’s energy could be captured with a Dyson sphere, and that energy would then be used to propel the star homeward.
The study doesn’t specify exactly how a civilization might move a star, or what it would do with the energy once captured. It’s hard to speculate about beings so powerful that these extreme feats would be possible, says Hooper, of Fermilab in Batavia, Ill. “It’d be like asking a caveman to figure out how my automobile works.”
The effort would do best to focus on stars that aren’t too big or too small, Hooper calculates. Big stars live fast and die young, so during the tens of billions of years needed to transport the stars home, they would fizzle out. The least massive stars, on the other hand, wouldn’t emit enough energy to fuel their own propulsion; they wouldn’t be able to outpace the universe’s expansion.
We have no evidence that such an advanced civilization exists (SN Online: 1/3/18). But if aliens are harvesting stars, says Hooper, “this would not be a subtle activity.” Scientists might be able to spot signs of the stars being propelled across the universe. A dearth of certain types of stars in particular cosmic neighborhoods would also be a tip-off.
Theoretical astrophysicist Avi Loeb of Harvard University suggests, however, that it wouldn’t be necessary to collect stars because “nature did it for us.” Large clusters of galaxies are already richly populated with stars. Plus, because the clusters are bound together by gravity, they would remain intact as the universe expands. So rather than improving their home galaxy by collecting stars, a civilization could simply move to greener pastures. “You just need to hop from one to another,” Loeb says. (Never mind the fact that interstellar travel still evades us mere humans.)
Mack, likewise, notes that uprooting to a galaxy cluster might be easier for a civilization, but “maybe they have really strong sentimental attachments to their home galaxy.”
Either way, E.T. won’t be able to stave off the end forever. Eventually, in about 100 trillion years, stars will stop shining altogether. Gathering stars would be a way to accomplish as much as possible, Mack says, “before all the stars die out and the universe is cold and dark and empty.”

In the 1960s, a strange structure which had a possible structure of a UFO was discovered on the Martian surface, and many conspiracy theorists then claimed that it could be a possible alien ship that had landed on the Red Planet.
However, a new study published in the Journal of Geophysical Research has refuted all these claims, and the researchers who took part in the study revealed that the mysterious structure is nothing but a weird rock formation.
Researchers Rule Out Alien Possibility
As per these researchers, volcanoes were very active on Mars in the ancient ages, and when it combined with hundreds of millions of years of wind erosion, these structures formed in a bizarre manner on the Martian surface.
The study report suggested that the porous rock was deposited roughly three million years ago, and Martian winds have played a crucial role in carving these structures into weird shapes. Researchers have named these strange shapes, 'Medusae Fossae Formation (MFF)'.
During the research, scientists made use of tools provided by NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter to get a clearer picture of the landscapes around the bizarre rock formation.
The image of this weird structure was snapped initially by NASA's Mariner spacecraft five decades ago. Back then, scientists were unable to explain the real phenomenon which could have caused these strange formations.
When looked from above, the ancient structure on Mars looks vaguely like a UFO landed on the Martian surface. Now, with this new explanation, the possible connection of these structures with extraterrestrials have been effectively refuted.
The Real Mystery Continues
However, alien enthusiasts have something to rejoice on the other side, as NASA, on June 07, 2018 revealed that they have found traces of organic compounds and methane on Mars. After the pathbreaking revelation, popular UFO researcher Tyler Glocker who runs the YouTube channel 'Secureteam10' claimed that aliens might have been living under the surface of Mars for hundreds of thousands of years.
A few days later, Tyler Glockner released a series of images taken by NASA's Curiosity Rover. He then put these snaps together, and strangely, it shows a bizarre body moving across the Martian surface. The object spotted moving in the surface also cast a shadow which rules out the possibility of lens flare.
In just a few days from now, the 2018 Dulce Base UFO Conference will be held at Dulce, New Mexico. There will, of course, be a great deal of debate and conversation on the town’s legend: namely, that deep below Dulce’s Archuleta Mesa there exists a huge, fortified “alien base” where all sorts of horrific experimentation is undertaken on untold numbers of people. By who? By hostile aliens, that’s who. The stories range from the fairly down to earth to the downright paranoid. It should be noted, though, that in his 2005 book, Project Beta, Greg Bishop made a very persuasive case that much of the story was created/fabricated by (a) counterintelligence experts in the U.S. military and (b) those skilled in the field of creating and disseminating disinformation.
Back in the 1970s, Paul Bennewitz – who died in 2003, in Albuquerque, New Mexico – had his own company that stood adjacent to Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. Its name was Thunder Scientific. On occasion, Bennewitz had seen – late at night and in the early hours of the morning – strange, unidentified objects flying over Kirtland Air Force Base and the nearby, huge Manzano Mountains. They could have been early drone-like craft. But, for Bennewitz they were alien craft.
Bennewitz’s head spun: he came to believe that aliens were in league with the U.S. Air Force, and that much of the secret program was run out of Kirtland. While one school of thought suggests that Bennewitz was indeed tracking the movements of UFOs in the skies over Kirtland, another suggests that Bennewitz had actually stumbled on tests of new and radical aircraft, and additional advanced technologies of a terrestrial kind. It’s this latter angle/theory that Greg Bishop addresses chiefly in his book.
In ingenious fashion – but from the perspective of Bennewitz, in terrible fashion – a plot was initiated to, in essence, give Bennewitz exactly what he wanted to hear. So, with that in mind, well-placed government agents, intelligence operatives, and experts in the fields of counterintelligence and disinformation, all fed Bennewitz fictitious tales of dangerous ETs, of thousands of people abducted and mind-controlled in slave-like fashion by the aliens, of terrible experiments undertaken on people held below the Dulce base, and of a looming confrontation between the human race and the deadly creatures from another galaxy.
With his mind and research diverted to Dulce – and, most importantly from the perspective of the government, away from the classified programs at Kirtland Air Force Base – Bennewitz became more and more paranoid and finally had a nervous collapse. He kept a low profile after that, his research largely over. But, the story isn’t quite over.
More than a decade before Bennewitz came to believe the awful rumors of Dulce were true, the U.S. Government alreadyhad a stake in the area and its surroundings. A contingent from the Atomic Energy Commission headed into town and set up what was called Project Gasbuggy. It was a sub-project of a much bigger project called Plowshare. The plan was to detonate – way below ground – a small nuclear device, as a means to try and extract natural gas. The operation went ahead on December 10, 1967 – and it worked well. The bomb was detonated at a depth of more than 4,000 feet.
Years later, certain figures in the UFO field suggested that the natural gas scenario was a cover for something else. You may already see where this is all going. There is an enduring belief within certain factions of Ufology that the nuke was actually used, by a panicked government, to try and wipe out the alien base and the extraterrestrials said to live deep within it. Even to this day it is illegal to dig in certain areas around Dulce, on the orders of the Atomic Energy Commission.
Moving on, from 1975 to 1979, the town of Dulce was hit by numerous cattle mutilations: black helicopters soared across the skies of town by night – and sometimes, and incredibly, in complete silence. Strange lights were seen flitting around Dulce’s huge Archuleta Mesa. Cows were found with organs removed and blood drained from their corpses. The incisions looked as if they were the work of lasers.
For those who might find all of this to be just too incredible, it’s worth noting that the FBI was heavily involved in the investigation of the mutilations at Dulce and has now placed its files on the mystery on their website, The Vault. It’s a file that reads like science-fiction (but it isn’t…)and that runs to more than 100 pages. Many of the incidents were investigated by the late Police Officer Gabe Valdez of Espanola. The FBI summarized Valdez’ theories as follows:
QUOTE: “Information furnished to this office by Officer Valdez indicates that the animals are being shot with some type of paralyzing drug and the blood is being drawn from the animal after an injection of an anti-coagulant. It appears that in some instances the cattle’s legs have been broken and helicopters without any identifying numbers have reportedly been seen in the vicinity of these mutilations.
“Officer Valdez theorizes that clamps are being placed on the cow’s legs and they are being lifted by helicopter to some remote area where the mutilations are taking place and then the animal is returned to its original pasture. The mutilations primarily consist of removal of the tongue, the lymph gland, lower lip and the sexual organs of the animal.
“Much mystery has surrounded these mutilations, but according to witnesses they give the appearance of being very professionally done with a surgical instrument, and according to Valdez, as the years progress, each surgical procedure appears to be more professional. Officer Valdez has advised that in no instance, to his knowledge, are these carcasses ever attacked by predator or scavenger animals, although there are tracks which would indicate that coyotes have been circling the carcass from a distance. Special Agent Putman then informed the Director of the outcome of Valdez’s run-ins with officials.
“He also advised that he has requested Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory to conduct investigation for him but until just recently has always been advised that the mutilations were done by predatory animals. Officer Valdez stated that just recently he has been told by two assistants at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory that they were able to determine the type of tranquilizer and blood anti-coagulant that have been utilized.” END OF QUOTE
Putman then demonstrated to headquarters the astonishing scale of the mutilation puzzle, according to Valdez: “Officer Valdez stated that Colorado probably has the most mutilations occurring within their State and that over the past four years approximately 30 have occurred in New Mexico. He stated that of these 330, 15 have occurred on Indian Reservations but he did know that many mutilations have gone unreported which have occurred on the Indian reservations because the Indians, particularly in the Pueblos, are extremely superstitious and will not even allow officers in to investigate in some instances. Officer Valdez stated since the outset of these mutilations there have been an estimated 8,000 animals mutilated which would place the loss at approximately $1,000,000.”
So, where do things stand with the “Dulce Base?” Well, I’ll tell you. Today, there are a lot of rumors, not one of which has ever provided hard, undeniable proof that such an underground installation really exists. But, that the area has been a hotbed of very weird activity of the “mute” kind (and particularly in the 1970s), and that underground detonations occurred in the area, certainly makes it understandable why Dulce and its surroundings are interesting to ufologists. Unfortunately, for those who are absolutely sure that such a facility does exist below Dulce, “interesting” is about as good as it gets, right now. Unless you know better…
Science fiction is full of tales of malevolent alien races who invade Earth in an attempt to enslave, annihilate, or assimilate the human race. In most of these, ragtag bands of human survivors band together to bravely fight off these invaders and reclaim our home planet through sheer bravery and a little help from Bill Pullman.
While it’s nice to imagine that the indelible human spirit might be able to save us from extraterrestrial conquerors, the fact is that if any hypothetical alien races are advanced enough to launch a large-scale invasion on Earth, we’re probably boned from them start. Luckily, we may have a bargaining chip that we could use to bribe our way out of becoming pets for unfathomably terrifying alien masters: our own DNA.
That sobering idea was proposed this month by Daniel Helman, professor of Labor Relations and Trade Unions at Ton Duc Thang University in Vietnam. Helman gave a presentation at the International Space Development Conference in Los Angeles arguing that since any advanced alien race would view our technology and commodities as inferior, our genetic material might be the most valuable thing we have to trade for our lives. “Our environment is unique, hence the genetics of all the organisms here and in the solar system are unique,” Helman argues.
Trading our own DNA would also ensure that the human race, even in test tube form, would survive any natural or man-made catastrophes which might render our planet lifeless. Helman also notes that viewing DNA as a tradable commodity in this way also serves as a “utilitarian reason to promote biodiversity” here on Earth. If there are such things as intergalactic zoosfilled with wondrous creatures from every corner of the universe – another popular theme in science fiction – the DNA of all of the other lifeforms here on Earth might be valuable as well.
Ah, the little critters of nature. They don’t know that they’re ugly.
Still, the idea isn’t sitting well among other academics who study potential human-alien interactions. Some argue that trading our DNA could make us vulnerable to genetically engineered weaponized diseases specific to our genetic code, or even make human life on Earth expendable in the eyes of superior alien races who might be able to clone new races of better humans elsewhere.

Another attempt was made by a former marine with the nickname Captain Kaye. He said that he spent years living on Mars and he also assisted on a giant space carrier.
According to him, he was an employee of the Mars Defense Force, owned and run by the Mars Colony Corporation.
Whether these people really experience something beyond our fantasy is yet to be discovered.
However, the truth is that many high-ranking people, directly or indirectly connected to Space, opened their souls to alien civilizations and UFOs.

A Texas oil worker escaped the clutches of alleged alien abductors – and has pictures showing an extraterrestrial with an alarmingly large horn on its forehead, which may or may not double as an anal probe.
Ronny Dawson, an oil tanker driver, said, ‘This thing came right in from outer space, and flew right over me.
‘I was standing on top of these petrol tanks and taking photographs. I hid between the tanks, because it scared the Hell out of me.’
Sadly, as is so often the case, Dawson seemed only to have a really low-resolution flip-phone camera with him, so the pictures are a little blurred.
He says, they show, ‘an actual UFO, an alien in the UFO, and an alien mothership,’ – but you’ll have to take his word for it.
‘It was a ship that was travelling above the trees, and the lights went out,’ he says, in a video on Disclose TV.
‘He either has a horn on his head or a helmet. He isn’t a little green man, is he?’
Mercifully, Dawson escaped his clutches without discovering the uses of the horn.
Nigel Watson, author of the UFO Investigator’s Manual, says, ‘It is not often we get pictures of aliens and UFOs and here the witness seems sincere – and is not an anonymous YouTuber. The frustrating thing is that the images are, as he admits, fuzzy, and it certainly helps that he describes what they represent in more detail.’
‘From his testimony he clearly saw these things but whatever they were is as hard to say, are they evidence of an alien visitation or something more mundane?’

As the video went viral, conspiracy theorists claimed that the object in the image might be an alien being living on Mars. The video racked up more than 240,000 views within 24 hours of being uploaded, and viewers were quick to speculate what it could be.
A YouTube user named 'The Humble Horse' commented that NASA had never reached Mars, and he claimed that the object that was captured in the video could have been one shot on Devon Island.
"That's because it's not MARS!!!! It's Devon Island... EARTH!! NASA lies...," commented The Humble Horse.
Joddy Grant, another YouTuber argued that the object spotted in the red planet has a face, and it suggests that a spirit might be roaming across the Martian surface.
"If you look at the image on Mars it looks like a face, could the Mars rover have captured a spirit???," commented Joddy Grant.
In a previous video, Tyler Glockner had claimed that aliens might be living underground in Mars. As per Glockner, the recent admission of NASA regarding the presence of methane and organic compounds in Mars is an indication that there are some anomalies going on under the surface of Mars.
The arguments over what the perfect human body should look like have probably been going on since Adam and Eve noticed they were naked (for creationists) or since the first human ancestor realized that monster in the lake was actually a reflection (for evolutionists). Regardless of your belief, you most likely would describe the perfect human body as one that looks close to yours – minus a few pounds and plus a few muscles … unless you’re an anatomist, osteoarchaeologist, physical anthropologist and palaeopathologist who is obviously not happy with her swimsuit shape. That person thinks the ideal human body looks like an extraterrestrial … complete with pointed ears, emu legs and a baby’s head emerging from her navel. Really!
We’re not supposed to look like this?
Alice Roberts is, in addition to all of those other jobs, a professor of public engagement in science at the University of Birmingham and the star of a recent BBC4 documentary called Can Science Make Me Perfect? If “perfect” is the star of a sci-fi movie, then Roberts accomplished her goal. She put together a team that included virtual sculptor Scott Eaton and SFX model maker Sangeet Prabhaker and generously donated her already fine body as the model to be made perfect.
Roberts and her team obviously took into account many of the imperfections all human bodies share – a spine designed for moving on four limbs, not two; a pelvis no longer wide enough for easy childbirth; feet with far too many bones for easy walking; skin that’s not made for all seasons; eyes and ear that don’t last until the warranty runs out on the rest of the body; and so on. The team looked at ways to improve on these problems by observing animals who are perfect in each of those areas and built a Roberts 2.0 with those features.
Close, but not the winner
Roberts didn’t see her new “perfect” self until it was unveiled at the London Science Museum for the show and, while said that “I screamed when I saw the final 3D model of my creation,” she tried her best to put a positive spin on a face that looked a little like hers on top of a body that would have caused even Darwin to say, “Whoa!”
“Inspired by dogs, cats, cephalopods, fish, swans and chimps, my model has a better heart with more arteries than a human being, lungs that are more efficient, eyes with no blindspots, ears that pick up sound better, legs that are more efficient, and reptilian skin which reacts fast to block damaging ultraviolet rays.”

The pointy ears came from a bat and the giant three-toed emu legs are built for speed, not looks, but the thing that drags one’s eyes away from any sexy parts that were left (there weren’t) is the kangaroo pouch in her belly with a baby’s head poking out. Again, her public engagement side kicked in and Roberts tried to make it sound like a benefit.
“On reflection, I don’t like the look of the bird-like legs. But having given birth to two children, I’m a big fan of having the kangaroo’s pouch.”

The White House has responded to two petitions asking the US government to formally acknowledge that aliens have visited Earth and to disclose to any intentional withholding of government interactions with extraterrestrial beings. “The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race,” said Phil Larson from the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy, on the WhiteHouse.gov website. “In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public’s eye.”

“Thank you for signing the petition asking the Obama Administration to acknowledge an extraterrestrial presence here on Earth. The U.S. government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race. In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public’s eye. However, that doesn’t mean the subject of life outside our planet isn’t being discussed or explored. In fact, there are a number of projects working toward the goal of understanding if life can or does exist off Earth.”
5,387 people had signed the petition for immediately disclosing the government’s knowledge of and communications with extraterrestrial beings, and 12,078 signed the request for a formal acknowledgement from the White House that extraterrestrials have been engaging the human race.
“Hundreds of military and government agency witnesses have come forward with testimony confirming this extraterrestrial presence,” the second petition states. “Opinion polls now indicate more than 50% of the American people believe there is an extraterrestrial presence and more than 80% believe the government is not telling the truth about this phenomenon. The people have a right to know. The people can handle the truth.”
These petitions come from an Obama Administration initiative called ‘We the People’ which has White House staffers respond and consider taking action on any issue that receives at least 25,000 online signatures. Regarding these two petitions, the White House promised to respond if the petitions got 17,000 or more signatures by Oct. 22.
Larson stressed that the facts show that there is no credible evidence of extraterrestrial presence here on Earth. He pointed out that even though many scientists have come to the conclusion that the odds of life somewhere else in the Universe are fairly high, the chance that any of them are making contact with humans are extremely small, given the distances involved.
But that doesn’t mean we aren’t searching, there is just no evidence yet. Larson mentioned SETI (correctly noting that this at first was a NASA effort, but is now funded privately) keeping an “ear” out for signals from any intelligent extraterrestrials, with none found so far. He also added that the Kepler spacecraft is searching for Earth-like planets in the habitable zones around other stars, and that the Curiosity rover will launch to Mars this month to “assess what the Martian environment was like in the past to see if it could have harbored life.”
Regarding any evidence for alien life, all anyone has now is “statistics and speculation,” said Larson. “The fact is we have no credible evidence of extraterrestrial presence here on Earth.”
Whether or not this will appease or satisfy any conspiracy theorists or UFO believers is yet to be seen, but it is gratifying to see the White House respond in such a no-nonsense manner.
UPDATE: The Paradigm Research Group, one of the organizations sponsoring the petitions, has issued a statement saying, “As expected it was written by a low level staffer from the Office of Science and Technology Policy – research assistant Phil Larson. The response was unacceptable.”

A high-level Air Force Colonel claims the United States attempted to drop an atomic bomb on the moon in 1959, but were prevented from doing so by an advanced extraterrestrial race.
In the 1950’s, Colonel Ross Dedrickson was responsible for maintaining the nuclear weapons stockpile for the AEC.
He was assigned to the US Atomic Energy Commission. A long service with the Energy Commission between 1950-1958 included, contract administration duties at Nevada test sites, Pacific Nuclear Test Area west of Hawaii, nuclear weapon manufacturing and quality assurance in Albuquerque, and inspection of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities throughout the country. He served with the 5th Air Force in Japan and later as a ranking Colonel, Officer in Charge of the Pacific Unified Command (TM)s alternate “command and control center” in Hawaii. In 1962, he was transferred and served as Deputy for Material for the 832 Air Division at Canon Air Force Base, Clovis, New Mexico. He retired from the USAF in 1964.
He is one of hundreds of military whistleblowers with verified backgrounds to have been brought forth by Dr. Steven Greer’s Disclosure Project. His testimony about UFOs — specifically about UFOs and nuclear weapons — can be corroborated by a wealth of information and evidence that’s now available within the public domain. Many of these whistleblowers have made multiple appearances at the National Press Club in an effort to get this information out to the world, with the most recent example being the Citizens Hearing on Disclosure, which took place a few years ago.
With such a professional background, working in the places he has worked, it’s safe to infer he was privy to sensitive information on a number of subjects. This isn’t just a random high-ranking military whistleblower talking about a random issue. There are many whistleblowers and documents clearly outlining a decades-long relationship between UFOs and nuclear storage facilities and test sites.
A number of these incidents have visual confirmation, along with air and ground radar confirmation as well.
In the interview below, Dedrickson explains how the American government tried to detonate a nuclear weapon on the moon, but were prevented from doing so.
As far as the mainstream goes, it’s public knowledge that a declassified report by the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center from June 1959 shows just how seriously they considered the plan, called Project A119. In general, they wanted to investigate the capability of weapons in space, as well as gain further insight into the space environment and the detonation of nuclear devices within it.
As far as the information below, that probably goes deeper into the Black Budget.
It’s interesting how the world is so into television shows like Stranger Things, which depicts the Department of Energy and their involvement with otherworldly creatures and other strange facts, yet so willing to ignore a high ranking American Colonel who held very sensitive positions at the Department of Energy for years, at a time when all of this nuclear development was really hot. He is the real deal and it’s interesting to ponder what he might really know.

At the very end of the 70s and the early 80s, we attempted to put a nuclear weapon on the moon and explode it for scientific measurements and other things, which was not acceptable to the extraterrestrials. We Talked to a Woman Who Helps People Deal with Being Abducted By Aliens
Kathleen Marden is the director of experiencer research at the Mutual UFO Network, where she works on behalf of people who have had extraterrestrial experiences.
Last week, NASA issued a clarification that a bright light in an image tweeted by one of its astronauts was, in fact, from the International Space Station, and not from a UFO. Even though there's never been any scientific evidence that UFOs exist, it's not exactly surprising: A higher percentage of Americans believe that UFOs exist than those who believe in climate change, evolution, or that the earth is 4.5 billion years old.
One of the best-known organizations claiming to scientifically study UFO's is the "Mutual UFO Network," or MUFON. Much of their work involves consulting with "experiencers"—people who claim to have been abducted or otherwise come in contact with extraterrestrial beings. It's a little bit hard to accept that the process has any scientific validity, given that the "experiencer questionnaire" reads a bit like an oncologist diagnosing a hypochondriac by asking them if they have cancer. Even still, they are the go-to for those who believe to have had alien encounters.
MUFON's director of experiencer research is Kathleen Marden—the niece of Betty and Barney Hill, two of the most well-known alleged UFO abductees from the 1960s. I talked to Marden about her methodology, the support services she provides for "experiencers," and whether media portrayals of aliens do more harm than good.
VICE: Tell me a little about what you do with MUFON.
Kathleen Marden: I'm MUFON's director of experiencer research. What we ask experiencers to do before they file a report with MUFON is to go to our website and take the experiencer questionnaire. It's a commonalities questionnaire to determine what they have in common with experiencers who participated in the Martin Stoner Commonalities Research Project in 2012. Once they do that, their score will go to me, along with their questionnaire, and I will assign a member of the team to get in touch with them.
Then what happens?
We talk to individuals to help them determine what they want to do: Do they want a formal investigation of their case with someone from MUFON? Do they have evidence? Are they not sure what's going on? Do they want some pointers on what to look for and how to collect the evidence? Do they have unpleasant memories about what has happened to them? Are they looking for a support group? We will attempt to find a support group for them—there are so few that it's really difficult, but there are some online support groups. Or are they looking for a therapist or a hypnotist? Then we will tell them where to look for a list where they might be able to get some information about those things. Professionals who specialize in this stuff are not very prevalent so it's difficult, but we do the best we can to help experiencers define what they want.
Have you encountered people who've tried to deceive you about their alien encounters?
Absolutely. A very small percentage of experiencers who request an investigation and file a report have done so in order to attempt to pull off a deception. I have caught a couple of them in cases that I have investigated. These people tend to either have a mental illness or they tend to be on the margins of society and believe that by pulling off a deception, they're going to bring publicity to themselves and possibly money. That's not going to happen because most experiencers, if they bring publicity to themselves, it's of a negative type. They're criticized by the public and by skeptics, and nobody makes a lot of money doing this.
Do you worry that somebody might not share those commonalities but still be worthy of investigation? Are there other benefits to filling out the questionnaire?
That happens. My team is non-prejudicial. There are individuals who have had recent experiences for the first time, and they won't have all of the characteristics that long-term experiencers have. So it's kind of open-ended. What it does is it can start a conversation, and the goal is to help people because these events can be traumatic and people don't know where to turn.

I'm looking at the questionnaire and the first question is, "Have you had a close encounter with a UFO?" That seems kind of like a leading question.
Well, people, I believe, are pretty generally honest about it. We want to know, have they had a close encounter? If they have, the chances of an abduction are much greater. I'm not trying to trick people here. This is kind of straightforward.
Do you know of any cases where a prominent individual suffered for claiming to be an experiencer? I think Dennis Kucinich took a beating in his 2008 presidential campaign after he was questioned about his alleged sighting.
Yes. Jimmy Carter, for example, had a UFO sighting and actually filed a formal investigation report about his sighting—and it was a multiple witness sighting. There are many individuals from prominent positions, whether it be astronomers or politicians—who have spoken publicly. [Editor's note: Carter filed a report with an unofficial investigations group four years after the sighting in 1973. There was never any official follow-up by him, and he has repeatedly said he does not believe the sighting was extraterrestrial.]
You're the niece of Betty and Barney Hill. What happened to them, and how has that influenced your career?
Betty and Barney Hill were credible individuals. They were taking a brief vacation in 1961 and they had this very unusual event that occurred that changed their lives. They had no prior interest in [UFOs]; they had never read a book on this topic before that. They had conscious and continuous recall of observing an unconventional craft that came down very low—it hovered only a hundred feet overhead. My uncle got out of the car. He had conscious continuous recall of observing entities on that craft that he said were "somehow not human." He became very fearful that he was going to be captured. He ran back to the car, telling Betty that they had to get out of there right away. As he was speeding down the highway, he and Betty heard a series of buzzing sounds striking the trunk of the vehicle. The next day, they discovered that there was a magnetic field around that trunk when they placed a compass needle over the spots and the compass needle would spin and spin but drop down when it was placed on an other area of the car.
This must have been very upsetting.
He was traumatized by this event, so much so that he ended up developing ulcers and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. He was seen by medical doctors, and then was referred to the psychiatrist because traditional medical treatment did not cause his symptoms to recede. Betty had a series of nightmare-like dreams: She only had five, they occurred early in the morning just before she woke up, and she wrote them down and formed them into a storyline. Barney wasn't very interested in it. He did overhear a little bit of them, but not all of them
My understanding is that much of their telling of the alleged incident occurred during hypnosis sessions a few years later, right?
I did a comparative analysis of their separate statements under hypnosis. [The doctor] hypnotized them separately and he reinstated amnesia at the end of each session so they didn't know what the other one stated. I have those tapes of their separate hypnosis sessions—I transcribed them and lined up their separate statements. What I discovered is that Betty and Barney describe where these ETs were standing, how they moved, what they did. That information was not in Betty's dreams—and it was also in conflict with some of the information in Betty's dreams—which lead me to believe this was a real event, and not just Betty reliving dreams under hypnosis and Barney knowing a little bit about her dreams and building on his own story based upon that. All of their testimony is in agreement; there is no conflict in their separate testimony.
Some people have suggested that those who claim to have had contact with extraterrestrials are actually experiencing vivid dreams, or sleep paralysis. How do you respond to those sorts of explanations?
All of those things are something that could occur, and that is something that we always look at. We always attempt to explain these away with prosaic explanations first. But we, as unbiased investigators, must also look for evidence. We have to look for individual testimony, eyewitness testimony, circumstantial evidence, physical evidence such as fluorescence in certain patterns on the bodies of experiencers, certain markings that we find on the bodies of experiencers—even to the point of installing surveillance cameras, motion-activated infrared in the homes of experiencers and outside those homes, and looking at the evidence.
What we find is that the outside camera might pick up a bright light outside the home. If this is a bedroom abduction, you might see the husband and wife sitting up in bed, and the next thing you know, the camera shuts down for two hours, and then you see the individuals again—but they're in bed in a different position. It's that sort of thing: the cameras always shut down.
A camera shutting down for two hours sounds more like an absence of evidence.
No. It's not an absence of evidence. It's evidence that something unusual has occurred. It's evidence of an anomaly. And when you get evidence of that anomaly over and over again, then it is significant. And what we need in all of this is not one smoking gun, one piece of evidence that is going to be irrefutable, but the preponderance of evidence, the weight of the different types of evidence that is around this constellation of evidence that we require in cases of alien abduction, for example.
Do you think that portrayals of extraterrestrials in popular media are conducive or harmful to people coming forward?
It depends on what you see. For example, MUFON's Hangar 1: The UFO Files show on the History Channel has caused many people to come forward. We've received far more reports than we did before Hangar 1 was on. But then, there are some science fiction shows that are just very, very frightening and, oh boy, it is not good for this field—and I don't think that it's good for the general population either. That kind of portrayal, in my opinion, makes people more frightened, and that's certainly something that shouldn't be happening. We should be looking at this more scientifically, more as investigators, and I am not in favor of any of the science fiction that comes out on this.
Now I found this anomaly today that seems to have eyes in one of the photos. It was caught in two photos. I have seen over 100 photos of this rock in the past two weeks (rover sat here for a while), and never have I seen this anomaly in one of the photos before. Also note, the photos were taken a few hours ago, not weeks or months ago!
It looks like an animal caught running past the cam. It must have been very light footed or the dirt was very hard, because I don't see a trail before or after it. It could be a species similar to the lizard here on Earth that berries itself in the sand and disappears. There is one full hour between the photo of no anomaly and the anomaly.
This is more evidence that life exists on Mars and NASA wants to hide it from the world. They don't have the mission to explore and share with the public. Alien life is a national security issue and therefore will never be shared with the public.
