DID NASA DISCOVER ALIEN LIFE ON TITAN?

When it comes to alien lifeforms in the Solar System, Titan – the largest moon of Saturn is one of the most likely candidates.

Whenever considering the possibility of finding alien lifeforms in the universe, scientists are mostly focusing their search power on exoplanets, or celestial bodies that have the optimal conditions for liquid water to form. With this rapidly growing space race, Earth’s powerful nations have scattered their probes across the Solar System in the hope of being the first to stumble across lifeforms outside of our planet, be it intelligent or not.

One of the surprise candidates that could host alien life is Titan – Saturn’s moon that’s larger than Mercury and has an atmosphere one-and-a-half times as dense as Earth’s. This might satellite is very similar to our planet. Its surface is covered with seas, lakes and rivers that, unlike Earth’s watery composition, are made up of liquid methane and ethane. Although the nitrogen and methane present in the air are toxic for human beings, researchers suggest that other lifeforms could have developed on this particular satellite.

Their assumptions are based on over a decade of thoroughly analyzing its surface using data collected by the Cassini-Huygens mission sent by NASA in collaboration with the European Space Station (ESA) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI). Cassini is not the only space probe to visit Saturn’s satellite, but rather the first to enter its orbit. Keeping this in mind, we can only think at what novel info the craft was able to gather from there, since NASA is already working on developing a submarine to explore the vast and unusual seas of Titan.

Adding up to the mystery of this oversized moon, researchers have discovered an unusual feature that seems to defy any logical explanation so far. Images received by Cassini orbiter revealed how, in July 2012, a huge chunk of land measuring approximately 100 square miles (260 square kilometers) has surfaced from beneath the Ligeia Mare, one of Titan’s largest seas. On August 21, 2014, this alleged island disappeared under the shallow portion of the sea, baffling the scientific crew who were unable to find a precise explanation.

Apart from this, scientists believe that a massive underground ocean is trapped within Titan, and that it could contain liquid water leaked from the frozen surface of the planet. There has been much debate on this topic, and researchers strongly suggest that these kind of underground oceans, which are scattered throughout different places in the Solar System, could give rise to alien life.

A recent study of the chemical composition of the planet showed that it contains hydrogen cyanide (HCN) molecules in the atmosphere, particles which react to form polymers, including polyimine that is able to absorb a considerable spectrum of light. Snatching all this light, polyimine could be a real catalyst for life, according to various researchers.

“Polyimine can exist as different structures, and they may be able to accomplish remarkable things at low temperatures, especially under Titan’s conditions,” said chemist Martin Rahm from Cornell University.

“We are used to our own conditions here on Earth. Our scientific experience is at room temperature and ambient conditions. Titan is a completely different beast,” he added.

With all these unusual features of Titan and the keen interest developed by NASA and the Europeans Space Station to furtherly explore the watery surface of this natural satellite, it’s likely that some form of extraterrestrial life has been spotted and seems within reach.

If they’ll find an advanced species of underwater inhabitants, or rather primordial lifeforms we can only speculate, but judging by the secrecy NASA has accustomed us to, and the unusual enthusiasm and energy directed towards Titan, is likely that something of extreme importance has already been discovered on the surface.

Major Announcement on the Peruvian Three-Fingered, Possibly Alien Mummies

King Kong finally got his own Broadway musical. Is it time for the Peruvian three-fingered, possibly alien, maybe pregnant mummies to get theirs? Better yet, is time for them to finally be accepted by the scientific community for what they really are … whatever that might be? On November 19, the people who have been studying them since their discovery, The Alien Project, gave a nearly five-hour televised presentation on their latest findings and analyses at the Congress Hall of the Republic of Peru in Lima with at least one Peruvian MP present. The results are in, the lights are dimming, the curtain is rising, the band is reaching a crescendo …

“The black-legged mummies of Nazca are authentic. The demonstration by the results of the DNA analyzes, the scanners, the x-rays, the tomography. According to DNA analysis, scans and X-rays, the experts are confronted with the facts, the incredible “Little Grays” and Maria belong to two new species totally unknown until today. It is clear that we are facing an unexpected discovery and of interest to all humanity! Back in detail about Josefina “the centerpiece”, Victoria, Alberto, and Maria’s anatomy.”

The five-hour video (you can see it here) was immediately published in the magazine Ikaris and all of the data and pictures are on display on The Alien Project website. Fortunately, the results were summarized by a number of websites and they are indeed interesting. (You can get up-to-speed on the past story of the mummies here and here and here.) Here are some of the highlights of the latest presentation:

DNA tests of the mummies show no relationship to any known human or animal

The bones of the mummies are hollow but rigid, similar to the structure of bird bones. There is visible wear at the joints between the bones which indicates that the beings were of advanced age and that they were actually alive – in other words, the mummies were not assembled from various parts.

3D scans of the insides of the mummies show that the bones, organs, muscles, fat, fat and possible eggs are in the proper locations for the creatures to have been living beings.

The data does not match any known species, making it highly likely that these are an unknown species with an evolutionary path separate from humans.

The features that look like eggs in the mummy Josefina are of various sizes, indicating differing stages of development.

Again, there is much more detailed coverage of the data and analyses on The Alien Project’s website.

The presence and apparent approval of the presentation by MP Armando Villanueva Mercado lent legitimacy to the announcement, although he admitted that the Peruvian Ministry of Culture turned down an invitation to attend. The audience was populated with plenty of university archeologists and experts in the field of mummy studies, which is a big field in Peru. As expected, there was plenty of disagreement at the end of the presentation, with many repeating the same complaint they’ve had throughout the history of these three-fingered mummies – that they were not allowed to participate in or even observe the study and analyses of the remains and that the whole process did not follow proper scientific procedures. On the other hand, the audience also contained plenty of believers and new converts and there is expected to be more and detailed coverage of the report.

Is this the announcement that changes everything? If not, who would go to such lengths to perpetrate a fraud? (Yes, we hear you, moon landing skeptics.) Yes, the name “Alien Project” Is presumptuous and many of the participants in the many announcements about these mummies have been wrong before. At this point, if The Alien Project (and the Peruvian government and the World Congress on Mummies which rightly protect the dignity of the remains of past Peruvians, whatever they might be) do not allow outside scientific analysis and review, the three fingers on the alien mummy meter are still stuck between “Skeptical” and “Unproven.”

On the other hand, the needle on the “Three-Fingered Alien Mummies!” Broadway musical meter is speeding towards “Hey kids! Let’s put on a show!”

Linda Moulton Howe “Something is Coming to Earth From 2 5 Billion Light Years Away”

What has been making very powerful and rapid signals in the past ten years from 2.5 billion light-years from Earth?

Linda Moulton Howe explains that the first recorded fast radio burst was in 2007 by the Parkes radio telescope in Australia.

The power of that radio burst was 500 million times the power of our solar system’s sun and lasted only 5 milliseconds.

Whatever the source is has become the subject of intense speculation by astrophysicists and astronomers.

In the March 9, 2017, Astrophysical Journal Letters, Avi Loeb — Chair of Harvard University’s Astronomy Dept. and Director of Harvard’s Institute for Theory and Computation and the Black Hole Initiative — proposed that fast radio bursts could be “interstellar light sails pushing payloads up to a million tons each, large enough to carry living passengers across interstellar or even intergalactic distances.”

These 4 NASA astronauts claim that the aliens are watching us

Although there is still no clear evidence that we are being observed, these astronauts claim that some extraterrestrial beings are already among us.(aliens are watching us)

    aliens are watching us

    1. Edgar Mitchell

is one of the people who has traveled to the moon; in fact it was the sixth one, in 1971. His trip was meant to recover samples of the Moon and return, and it was one of his last works after almost 20 years at NASA. After retiring, he said he was “90% sure that many of the thousands of unidentified objects that have been registered since 1940 are from visitors to other planets.”(aliens are watching us)

Likewise, in multiple questions he assured that the UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) are real and that he spoke with world leaders that have come into contact with aliens, but that this information is classified. Similarly, he said that governments around the world have been hiding it from the public for more than 60 years.(aliens are watching us)

However, the man states with certainty that the Roswell Incident (in which an object of the United States Armed Forces crashed on a ranch in New Mexico, which was believed to have been the landing of an alien) was an encounter with aliens, and that the US government hid it for decades, although it has constantly been shown that the material that fell from the sky was made by humans.

Also, the man claims that the aliens stopped some nuclear bombs during the Cold War and that they have been in contact with the Vatican to help humanity.(aliens are watching us)

    aliens are watching us

    2. Deke Slayton .

This astronaut participated in the Mercury Project, the first space flight program in the United States whose purpose was to put a man on the Moon. He later served as Operations Director of the NASA flight team. However, before all that, in 1951 he thought he saw an alien spacecraft. “It looked like a saucer at a 45-degree angle […]. Soon it started and took off, and I could not see it anymore ». He could never see anything else during his missions as a member of the space organization.(aliens are watching us)

    3. Gordon Cooper was

After retiring he declared: “I believe that these extraterrestrial vehicles and their crews visit this planet from others, which are much more advanced than the Earth.” The man said that maybe the aliens will not communicate with us until we learn to solve our conflicts by peaceful means instead of constantly creating wars.

In his life as a retired he claimed that there was an extraterrestrial existence on Earth that had caused strong technological advances and said, “Other civilizations have been monitoring us for a long time. Its appearance is strange from the western point of view ».(aliens are watching us)

Captured by the Light: Alien Abductions, Their Origins, and Misconceptions

For a number of decades, people have claimed that they have been taken aboard unusual flying craft–often against their will–and examined in alien environments by strange beings.

Known to those who study unexplained aerial phenomena as UFO or alien abduction, the earliest UFO literature was essentially void of any references to such captures or kidnappings. However, beginning in the 1960s popular books on the subject, namely John G. Fuller’s The Interrupted Journey, began to chronicle the claims of those like Betty and Barney Hill, a New Hampshire couple who alleged they were taken aboard a flying saucer and examined by aliens while returning late one night from a vacation at Niagara Falls.

Other books that followed expanded on the narrative of abductions, producing similar reports to that of the Hills–some of which dated prior to their own 1961 encounter–and before long a shift in the focus of the UFO community at large was well apparent. Conferences that once showcased Air Force veterans like Major Donald Keyhoe, advocating the release of UFO information by the government, and civilian researchers and scientists like J. Allen Hynek seeking trace evidence of landed saucers, were replaced by those now taking up the case of the abductees: Harvard psychologist Dr. John Mack and artist-turned investigator/hypnotist Budd Hopkins, as well as those like Whitley Strieber, a successful novelist who eventually came forward with his own abduction experiences… both to fanfare, and attacks from critics.

Then, with the coming of the new millennium, the focus of the UFO community seemed to shift once again, this time moving gradually away from the abduction phenomenon, in favor of more “nuts and bolts” approaches to studying odd things in the skies.

What caused the shift? Has the widespread accessibility to information sources (and, perhaps more importantly, opposing viewpoints) led to fewer budding researchers following what could be deemed more credulous lines of thought, despite interest that persists in a UFO phenomenon? Could it also be that the once popular abduction literature–after decades of being sustained on even less physical evidence than that which exists in support of UFOs themselves–finally began to collapse inward, under the weight of broader scientific scrutiny?

Perhaps it’s a combination of factors that have caused the shift away from alien abductions that once held the hearts of so many in the UFO community. In a sense, UFO reporting in the last few decades has taken a postmodern approach, in the sense that old ideas once taken for granted are now more thoroughly questioned. Some of the better books on the UFO subject to arrive in recent years have focused almost exclusively on science, historical analysis, and sometimes just bare-bones journalism: Leslie Kean’s UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go On the Record comes to mind, as well as my friend David Marler’s Triangular UFOs: An Estimate of the Situation and John B. Alexander Ph.D.’s UFOs: Myths, Conspiracies, and Realities all come to mind in this regard. From the more skeptical side of the equation, Bad UFOs: Critical Thinking About UFO Claims by Robert Sheaffer takes a look at famous cases, and calls into question how and why caution should be employed by UFO advocates. Occasionally, groups from one camp may criticize the other (or hit back in defending their positions) although, in my opinion, perspectives from both sides of the fence are helpful, and necessary, in an effort toward looking at the phenomenon objectively.

Of course, one thing that the reader of any of the aforementioned books will notice is that there is very little (if any, in some cases) to be said about alleged alien abductions in such modern examples of UFO literature. We could speculate all day on the reasons for this “shift,” as I’ve called it, although a more interesting line of inquiry, in my opinion, has to do with its origins in the first place: where did the idea of alien abductions come from? Or at very least (and so as not to presuppose that all such claims are to be ruled out of hand, however unlikely they seem), are there cultural predecessors in myth and fiction that might give us an idea about some of the influences behind the strange rise, and sudden fall, of what became a fringe movement within an already controversial subject like UFOs?

As several researchers have outlined already over the years, the general features of the alien abduction motif are all common in much earlier literature, including fairy folklore of the British Isles, as well as other mythology from around the world (the works of Jacques Vallee come to mind here, as do those of Jerome Clarke, among others). Cultural groups since time immemorial have spoken of gods and spirit folk who occasionally carry humans away from the mortal realm, sometimes accompanied by periods of missing time–a trope that has been present in alien abductions as early as the Betty and Barney Hill encounter.

Shortly after UFOs assumed their place in the cultural landscape by the end of the 1940s, claims of encounters with “Space Brothers” and other friendly visitors from nearby planets that are now well-known to be uninhabited (or simply uninhabitable) began to appear. These alleged encounters are very different from the claims of the abductees, however: most of the “friendly” aliens of this period were suspiciously humanlike in appearance, and any earthling setting foot inside one of their flying saucers did so of his or her own volition.

Not so with the abductees, among whose claims we find such terrors as paralysis and levitation in the methods extraterrestrials employ to bring their human captives on board (as many modern chroniclers of the phenomenon will note, certain similarities exist here with the sensations experienced by sufferers of sleep paralysis, a phenomenon that was not as widely recognized by the general public only decades ago).

It is also noteworthy that the first known appearance of the alien abduction idea in a print publication occurred yearsbefore any allegedly “true” abduction reports had been publicized. One of the cover stories of the October 1953 issue of Man to Man, a men’s pulp magazine known for its adventure stories (and occasionally, speculative science articles) had been the sensational piece, “Are Flying Saucers Kidnapping Humans?” This was featured alongside the appetizing feature article, “WHY PEOPLE MUTILATE THEMSELVES” (all the sorts of pertinent things readers of adventure magazines in the 1950s wanted to know, I suppose).

See, I wasn’t kidding… and what’s the deal with the walrus?

Even the earliest alien abductions on record occurred after the publication of the aforementioned article; the strange case of Antonio Villas Boas, for instance, allegedly took place in 1957, but wasn’t written about until much later. And on a similar note, researcher Peter Rogerson has said that he feels the Vilas Boas case may raise a few red flags, since a story with details that were similar to Vilas Boas’s account had been printed in the November 1957 issue of the Brazilian periodical O Cruzeiro (this would have placed the publication date after the date Villas Boas would later allege that his encounter took place, although he didn’t publicly discuss it until well after the article was published. Hence, it is possible that if his story was a fabrication, the “later” article could nonetheless have been its inspiration).

Books like Ann Druffel and Scott Rogo’s The Tujunga Canyon Contacts actually did outline a series of alleged abductions said to have occurred in 1953; however, as with the Antonio Villas Boas affair, the account wasn’t written about until 1980 (I should note that Whitley Streiber’s book Communion also outlines experiences from his childhood, although these likely would have placed them between the late 1950s and early 1960s). Hence, it is reasonable to assume that the aforementioned article does, in fact, predate virtually all of the modern alien abduction claims.

Add to this the countless science fiction magazines from even earlier in the twentieth century that featured humans being captured, strapped down, and examined with scientific equipment from fictional alien worlds on their covers, and it becomes hard to avoid the fact that the alien abduction meme had already been firmly planted (or maybe we should say “implanted” in this case) in the public mind by the time stories of “real” abductions began to appear in books and magazines.

Alien beings are often (but not always) likened to insects in their behavior and appearance.

Although my general tone here may sound completely dismissive toward the alien abduction meme, it is not my intention to say that all people who claim to have had odd experiences–in particular, those with unusual aerial vehicles, or even their occupants–are liars, frauds, or simply wrong (and frankly, I maintain a certain disdain for those who do resort to ad hominem attacks and accusations fraud, hoaxes, or monetary incentives in order to get their points across in any case).

As I’ve noted before in the past, I have met Travis Walton on a number of occasions, and find him to be a delightful person in general (as anyone who has met him would attest). Walton is a kind, friendly person, and on many occasions when we’ve talked, the conversation has had to do with anything but UFOs or abductions. He often gives talks about his experience, where he notes the way its depiction in Hollywood was sensationalized.

He wrote a book about his experience, and in addition to selling it at events he attends, he is sometimes paid to give his lectures. Strangely, the fact that Travis profits in any way from his experiences have sometimes been used as a case against his claims, with doubtful types calling foul and complaining that “it’s all just a way of making money!” To the contrary, Walton is not a full time “UFO celebrity,” and has had to work for a living like anyone else over the years. Frankly, if I had experienced what Walton says happened to him back in November 1975, I would have written a book about it, too. In short, the complaints that people like Travis Walton do what they do “for the money” is an old–and inaccurate–stereotype, that is all-too-often launched against UFO advocates as a way of delegitimizing their claims (as an author of at least a few books on the more nuts and bolts side of the UFO equation, I can say I speak from a degree of experience in this regard, as there are far more profitable ways to make a living!).

Of course, I can’t prove or disprove what Travis Walton claims. All I can tell you personally is that he is a pleasant individual and that while I am often not convinced as far as many abduction claims go, there are a few elements to his experience that, to me, stand out from the rest. Despite having received plenty of critiques over the years, it remains one of the only multiple-witness UFO encounters of its kind; this alone sets it apart from a broad majority of more credulous abduction claims, let alone the fact that in Walton’s case, an individual (Walton) actually did go missing for several days. This is far more than could be said of the majority of similar incidents.

And as far as similar incidents go, there is really just one that comes to mind, although it is seldom discussed in the United States (or in general). The disappearance of Franck Fontaine near Pontoise, France in November 1979 is a case that bears a few similarities to the Travis Walton situation, and perhaps curiously so. To summarize the situation briefly, Fontaine and a pair of friends were planning a trip to the nearby market to sell clothing on the morning of Monday, November 26, 1979. Shortly after 4 AM, Franck and his friends observed a light that appeared to be larger than the moon passing behind the La Justice Mauve apartment complex where they lived. Franck went in the direction of the object to get a closer look, and when his friends pursued him minutes later, Franck’s truck was found sitting with its interior lights on, surrounded by a curious fog; the light zipped away into the sky, and Franck was nowhere to be seen.

Much like the Walton case, Franck Fontaine remained missing for several days, then purportedly reappeared at the apartment at 4:20 AM on December 3. A media frenzy ensued, during which police, reporters, and UFO investigative groups all became interested; ultimately the three would come forward and admit that the entire affair had been a hoax, and most left it at that, satisfied that the entire affair had been another waste of time, like most similar UFO-related claims.

A point worthy of mention here is that when elements arise during a UFO investigation that would seem to point to a hoax, skeptical investigators tend to rest their case, emphasizing only the facts that support such dismissal (in Walton’s case, the fact that questions remained about various lie detector tests he and the other witnesses had taken, as well as the involvement of the National Enquirer in a possible monetary reward for “proof” of alien contact, come to mind). This is logical, of course, since those making the extraordinary claims are the ones left with the burden of proof, not the skeptics (who are right to question what appear to be extraordinary claims). If a party in question is suspected of a possible hoax, and then they come forward later and admit to it, continuing to pursue the case would appear to make no sense.

Jacques Vallee wrote about the Fontaine case in his 1991 book, Revelations: Alien Contact and Human Deception, a book which presented what may be Vallee at his most skeptical. Colleagues of Vallee in the French UFO research community that had been in touch with Fontaine and his friends had noted inconsistencies in their narrative, albeit not with relevance to the incident so much as their claims that the entire affair had been a hoax. In essence, the group from La Justice Mauve finally claimed to a select few researchers that they were so harrassed by reporters, skeptics, and UFO advocates alike that they simply admitted it was a hoax so they could be left alone.

Vallee goes on to follow this line of inquiry, which leads to a meeting with a French government official who is not named in the book, but of whom Vallee says, “His full name is known to me.” This individual explains to Vallee that the entire affair had actually been orchestrated, as outlined in this exchange which Vallee paraphrases in Revelations (for sake of clarity, Vallee leads off the exchange below, with questions and answers from the unnamed official alternating thereafter):

    What happened to Fontaine?”

“We put him to sleep and he was kept under an altered state of high suggestibility.”

“Were the police and the gendarmerie aware that the operation was a hoax conducted by a higher-level agency?”

“Certainly not. Their behavior under these conditions was one of the things we wanted to observe.”

    “What was your own role?”

“My interest in the affair is purely personal. It has no relationship to my position with the French Air Force.”

“Would it be correct to say that you deliberately created a major UFO event to find out if you could rely on the reactions and the investigative abilities of local law enforcement agencies?”

“That would be a fair way to describe it.”

As Vallee notes in Revelations, upon asking whether the official was concerned whether he would publish this exchange, the official told him that “anything you publish will simply be denied.” However, of greater importance here is the fact that Vallee notes the similarities between the Fontaine case and the Walton incident from a few years earlier. “I have met with Travis Walton and with the crew boss, Mike Rogers,” Vallee says, “who had seen the craft and the beam. I am satisfied they are telling the truth as they experienced it, although I am not ready to take the hypnotic data literally, for reasons I have explained in detail in previous works.” (In contrast to Vallee’s latter statement, Walton states on a “Questions and Answers” page on his website that, “I did not recall any experiences under hypnosis that I could not remember before. The hypnosis did help me verbalize my experience in greater detail, without being overwhelmed by anxiety, but did not help me regain any lost memories.”)

“I do not think Fontaine was abducted by extraterrestrials,” Vallee continues later in the chapter. “But I do not think he is lying either. The disappearance of Franck Fontaine is one of the most disturbing episodes in the whole history of UFOs. But it was not a hoax.”

Arguably, Vallee’s considerations in relation to the Fontaine case–and that of Travis Walton–are very similar to my own. The trouble with the aforementioned points of interest, of course, is that unique though they are, they still don’t provide the hard evidence we require in order to conclusively prove that there is a tangible element to such cases; they do, however, strongly imply that what could be occurring is far from being anything extraterrestrial in nature.

Of course, the same may be said of the broader UFO phenomenon, too: despite our best efforts over the decades, very little in the way of tangible, physical evidence has been supplied in support of such claims, let alone in a way that might be conducive to the advancement of new ideas. On the other hand, while we’re terribly lacking in physical proof, there is more than enough data that pertains to UFO eyewitness reports to suggest there is something going on here. In that sense, the case for rational inquiry has never been greater: if there is a phenomenon or other element at work here–as many have supposed for decades already–then obviously the most reliable methodologies at our disposal must be employed in order to assess what it is, and to see if there is an underlying purpose or intention behind it.

That much would seem evident, of course, in the event that UFOs represent a real and tangible phenomenon. Obviously, we still have a lot of questions left to be answered here.

Strange Visitors: “I can find you anywhere, any time”

Born on March 3, 1952, Robert A. Goerman is a native of New Kensington, Pennsylvania. As an investigative scholar of unknown and unexplained phenomena, he has been fortunate enough to have his writings featured in national magazines and serve as source material for many books and popular television shows such as Unsolved MysteriesThe UnexplainedHistory’s MysteriesAnimal XMonsterQuest, and Dark Matters: Twisted But True. Founded in June of 2012, his Nonhuman Research Agency explores encounters with mysterious strangers, beings, and creatures and studies interspecific relationships. Robert offers his very own insights into the Men in Black mystery, based upon his firsthand investigations of a very weird case from the 1960s that is steeped in menace of the black-colored kind. It is a case that has led Robert to some thought-provoking theories concerning the nature and actions of the MIB, too. With that all said, over to Robert:

“One bizarre Pennsylvania case (that I personally investigated) began on the night of January 20, 1967, when Mrs. Walter Kushner and her two daughters, Susan (17) and Tanya (14) and a close friend of the girls, Marianne Williamson (16), witnessed a brilliant UFO drop below the cloud cover and maneuver at high speed while the four were returning to the Kushner’s Pittsfield residence. Hours later, as the three girls enjoyed a ritual teenage slumber party, they spotted a peculiar light shimmering through the closed curtains of Susan’s bedroom.

“Without warning, the drapes parted of their own volition and a small triangular object hovering a few feet from the house began beaming brilliant light into the bedroom. When the triangle moved to another window, the curtains repeated their opening act and the intensity of light emanating from the object increased. At this point, the girls became quite frightened and decided to retreat. ‘It’ had different ideas.

“All three girls found themselves unable to move or cry out. Sheer terror escalated to fervent prayers for help. After what seemed like an eternity, the siege ended. Although their freedom of movement was restored, a weird dizzy sensation haunted the girls for an hour. The girls awoke Mrs. Kushner and tearfully described the party crasher and their fear that ‘it’ might return. Mother eventually got the trio settled down and after much discussion decided that it would be for the best if everyone simply forgot an incident that nobody would believe anyway. All agreed.

“Things were back to normal when shortly after the dinner hour on Saturday, exactly one week following the horrific pajama party, two men arrived at the Kushner household. They identified themselves as military investigators and flashed what appeared to be United States Air Force identification. Both men wore tan trench-coats which they kept buttoned from knee to collar. The taller of the two, who, according to the family’s testimony, did all the talking, was described as having blond hair, green eyes, was thin and deeply tanned. The other gentleman was heavyset with dark hair, piercing blue eyes and was also deeply tanned.

“Mrs. Kushner explained that both men wanted every shred of information regarding the UFO that the girls claimed had intimidated them. Neither parent can explain to this day why they allowed their children to be so intensely grilled by these ‘government agents.’ These characters moved about the house with apparently total knowledge of the whereabouts of rooms, furniture, objects, et cetera. When asked how the Air Force learned of the UFO sightings, the taller one responded with, ‘We know a lot of things, a lot of things.’

“Although compelled to accept the situation, the family felt that something seemed off-center, something that, for whatever reason, they couldn’t quite put their finger on until after the officers departed. Sue noted that their clothes looked as if they had purchased them in a clothing store ten minutes before and even the bottom of their shoes seemed unwalked on in appearance. The cigarette pack held by the taller one was unopened (and stayed that way) and even his wallet was brand new.

“While the taller of the two showed his captive audience a loose-leaf notebook with professionally printed schematic diagrams and photos of both the exterior and interior views of various types of UFO-type craft, Sue watched the shorter officer secretly write in an elongated notebook not unlike those used by stenographers. Catching him off guard, she was amazed to see him writing strange symbols in vertical columns, starting from the left, going down one column, up the next, down the third, up the fourth, et cetera. Being accustomed to standard shorthand, Sue had no idea of the graphic’s origin.

“Meanwhile, the talkative officer continued to mystify his audience, telling them that UFOs were nothing more than secret U. S. experimental devices which have never harmed persons or property and that public disclosure of seeing one up close could result in criminal prosecution. When Tanya asked how the family could get in touch with them should there be another sighting, the officer replied, ‘I can find you anywhere, any time.’ When these military men finally left, they backed their vehicle out onto the roadway, extinguished the headlights and zoomed off into the night. It is against Pennsylvania commonwealth traffic laws, and all common sense and safety, to drive after sunset without suitable lighting. These gentlemen probably had no connection with the United States Air Force.

Men in Black are neither hallucinations nor hoaxes. But what do these visitations represent? Role-playing covert government operatives? Nonhumans acting human? Maybe a little of both. Maybe something beyond our comprehension. Odd appearance and bizarre behavior does not certify the existence of nonhumans among us. However, dissolving coins and cars raise interesting questions. Our failure to understand these events in no way negates their validity.

“These visitations represent entity contact at its most accessible in that entire families have endured grueling visits by these mystery men and many witnesses are harassed more than once. These visitations represent entity contact at its most elusive. Parents wonder why they allowed their children to be so intensely grilled by these strangers. Victims speak of being unable to think or react normally until after the mysterious visitors leave. To some, this suggests altered states of consciousness or subliminal hypnotic techniques. What if the MIB visit you? Will you be witty and clever and insist they pose for a snapshot? Or will you be a deer in headlights and spend your tomorrows wondering why?”

Our Alien Kindred: The History and Evolution of the Extraterrestrial

“In the beginning,” so it is written, “God created the heavens and the earth.”

Sometime after that, humans came along in this cosmological origin story too (although I would wager that this occurred more than just a few days later, despite what the text quoted above has to say about it). Thereafter, we spent ages bumbling around on our little mudball, during which the rise and fall of chiefdoms, city-states, and civilizations occurred, along with countless wars and conflicts over land disputes, material shortages, kidnappings, killings, and the like.

At some point, things seemed to have calmed down a little–agriculture certainly helped with this, as did the formation of laws and governance–and humans finally had time to rest, and perhaps more importantly, to think. After a few thousand years of contemplation along these lines, finally, within the last few hundred years or so somebody had the idea that we might not be the only ones the Big Guy upstairs took the time to bother to create… if you prescribe to that sort of thing.

Formation of the idea that there might be inhabited worlds beyond our own first required understanding that Earth is, in fact, a round planetary body in space, and that several others exist in our cosmic neighborhood, all encircling our sun (hat tips are in order here for Galileo, Kepler, Pythagoras, Eratosthenes, and various others who contributed to such thought over the ages). In light of this, the idea of leaving Earth to visit nearby celestial bodies has actually been around for quite a while: mention of such things as travel to the moon had already been left to posterity as early as the second-century in Lucien’s satires, and a few centuries thereafter, philosophers were seriously debating the idea of whether other planets existed, and what kinds of “people” might reside there (“Cosmic Pluralism,” in other words).

By the 17th century, discussion of such likelihoods had become fairly commonplace. Eighteenth-century writers of no less esteem than Washington Irving and François-Marie Arouet (or Voltaire, as he’s better known, for those of you who slept through French Enlightenment history) had written stories where anthropomorphic “aliens” visited Earth.

There were a number of consistent themes in early science fiction writing about aliens. In particular, aliens were generally anthropomorphic (that is, they resembled humans), and were often even referred to as “people.” In fact, for some authors of alien fiction, these beings didn’t merely resemble us: visitors from other worlds actually were humans. This isn’t hard to imagine, given consideration that prior to the publication of Darwin’s The Origin of the Species in November 1859, concepts like evolution would have been remote, to say the least. In times prior to Darwin’s influence, the notion that humans were literally “made in God’s image” was more widely accepted; hence our human shape and form had been divinely inspired, not as a result of adaptations to our environment over long stretches of time.

It only stood to reason, then, that if God made us in his image, and that we lived on a planet orbiting the sun, then perhaps there were other “people” made by God, who lived elsewhere in the universe on alien planets similar to ours. Thus, the theological concept of “aliens” still entailed beings that were essentially human. Authors whose written works followed Darwin’s widespread influence reflected themes of evolution and adaptation in relation to the alien concept, such as Camile Flammarion’s 1862 work, The Plurality of Inhabited Worlds.

Decades later, H.G. Wells pointed us in a less anthropocentric direction with the octopoidal Martian invaders featured in his The War of the Worlds. The inclusion of tentacled antagonists set a new precedent for how alien life would look in the fiction of the years to come; however, rather than diversifying as Wells did, and allowing their aliens to take other unusual shapes and forms, many writers simply followed suit and incorporated tentacled, squid or octopus-like aliens into their own work (even H.P. Lovecraft, for all his imagination, appeared to strongly favor this motif). There are some notable exceptions, of course (insectoids, bodiless brains, symbiotes, robotic beings, etc), but the “tentacled alien” is a trend that nonetheless continues today, as seen in films like The Arrival and countless other stories.

Of particular interest in our brief look at the evolution of the “alien” idea is that concepts involving biological alien entities from other planets were in use for centuries before the word extraterrestrial ever came along. According to the Online Etymological Dictionary, the word extraterrestrial is defined as follows:

extraterrestrial (adj) also extra-terrestrial, “occurring or originating outside the Earth,” 1812, from extra- + terrestrial. As a noun from 1956.

While OED gives us the correct definition, there are a few things to point out about the history given here; they provide a rather obscure, earlier date of 1812 for the origin of the term (without further context or reference to where this occurred), and later its appearance as a noun in 1956. As far as finding the earliest print appearances of this expression (and specifically in relation to alien life), once again we must return to Wells, who after giving us the first non-anthropomorphic aliens in popular fiction, also seems to have been the first popular writer to gift us with a new term for them. The passage below appeared in the third chapter of The War of the Worlds, entitled “On Horsell Common,” where we can see that Wells was using the word more than half a decade earlier:

‘It required a certain amount of scientific education to perceive that the gray scale of the Thing was no common oxide, that the yellowish-white metal that gleamed in the crack between the lid and the cylinder had an unfamiliar hue. “Extra-terrestrial” had no meaning for most of the onlookers.’

It is possible that the earliest use of a non-hyphenated, nominative variant of extraterrestrial didn’t appear in print until the 1950s, although L. Sprague de Camp also appears to have used the expression in 1939 in an article, “Design for Life (Part 1 of 2),” which was first published in the May 1939 issue of Astounding Science-Fiction (this was actually one of two pieces de Camp published in that issue, although his other contribution, a short story called “Employment,” was published under a pseudonym due to the magazine’s policies against publication of more than one contribution by an individual within a single issue). It was also de Camp who first shortened Wells’ term into the popular acronym “E.T.” as seen today, and borrowed famously by Steven Speilberg for his famous film of the same name.

    L. Sprague de Camp

So while it does appear that Wells was first to use the hyphenated form of the word in popular literature in 1898, there is one other noteworthy example of a similar concept that does come to mind. In the 1885 preface to his Beyond Good and Evil, philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche also uses the term “super-terrestrial,” although not in reference to the idea of biological alien life (I happened to notice Nietzsche’s use of this expression quite apart from any research for this article, and so admittedly I find it to be novel, albeit not particularly relevant to our search for the etymological origins of extraterrestrials in the English language. Also keep in mind that Nietzsche would have written the word in German, appearing as überirdischen, which directly translates to mean “unearthly,” or in the context in which he used it, might also be taken to have meant “supernatural.” In my estimation, the translation of this word into “super-terrestrial” had been a selective interpretation made by the translator, who in this case would likely have been Helen Zimmern, whose first English translation of the book appeared in 1906. Thus–spake Zarathustra?–we might even stretch a bit further to speculate that Zimmern could even have read Wells’ The War of the Worlds, and had come across his use of “Extra-terrestrial,” which for all we may know could have influenced her later translation of Nietzsche… so in essence, the point is still awarded to Wells for this one).

But why is there any need for a further distinction between “alien” and “extraterrestrial” in the first place? Actually, if we look back at Wells’ first use of the word, he wasn’t referring explicitly to a biological alien entity, per se: he had been using the term in relation to the description of “the gray scale of the Thing,” which “was no common oxide,” and also “the yellowish-white metal that gleamed in the crack between the lid and the cylinder”. In other words, Wells described the appearance of the cylindrical vessel in which the invading Martians have arrived. Quite obviously, it had been later authors that would begin to use the term in relation to alien beings themselves.

And for such authors, another reason for the “shift” might be that the word alien, in modern usage, has a variety of different meanings and interpretations. In the strictly terrestrial sense, it has relevance to things that may be seen as foreign or different to a given person or group; this has led to some problems, since the use of alien as a noun, which entails “a foreigner, someone who isn’t a naturalized citizen has a hard time escaping associations with its adjective form, which generally means “distasteful or odd” (one can clearly see the reasons for controversy here over its use in relation to such things as immigration, particularly in North America and parts of Europe). On the other hand, there is nothing about the word extraterrestrial that can be misconstrued as pertaining to earthly affairs.

The evolution of the extraterrestrial idea, as we can see, moved at a slow creep across the ages. Looking back over time at the conceptual development of human attitudes toward alien life is fascinating in a number of ways, and of course, far more could be said of this subject than the brief overview presented here. If anything, the gradual revelation that other forms of life could exist somewhere “out there”–and perhaps more importantly, that such a thing as “out there” existed in the first place–did more than merely introduce the concept of alien life; it caused humans to think about ourselves, our origins, and ultimately, what it actually means to be human.

Perhaps with the innovation and discovery of the coming years, we will also begin to glean some idea about what it could mean to be “extraterrestrial,” if such life from other worlds is eventually proven, without question, to exist.

RELIGIOUS leaders in Durban are mixed in their views about alien life.

This follows a suggestion from scientists at Harvard University in the US that a cigar-shaped object that tumbled through our solar system in October last year, was a probe sent by an intelligent alien life form to spy on us.

The object was called “Oumuamua” which means “a messenger that reaches out from the distant past” in Hawaiian. It was picked up by the Pan-STARRS 1 telescope in Hawaii.

Since its discovery, scientists have been at odds as they tried to explain its unusual features and origins.

Researchers first called it a comet, then an asteroid. When the object failed to satisfy the criteria of either, they labelled it a first of its kind: a new class of “interstellar objects”.

Given its high speed and its unusual trajectory, the reddish, stadium-sized whatever-it-is clearly came from outside our solar system.

But its flattened, elongated shape and the way it accelerated through the solar system set it apart from conventional asteroids and comets.

In a paper, researchers at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics raised the possibility that the elongated dark-red object, which is 10 times as long as it is wide and travelled at speeds of more than 300000km/* , could be of “artificial origin”.

“Oumuamua may be a fully operational probe sent intentionally to Earth vicinity by an alien civilisation,” they wrote in the paper, which has been submitted to the Astrophysical Journal Letters.

The theory is based on the object’s “excess acceleration”, or its unexpected boost in speed as it travelled through and ultimately out of our solar system in January.

Religious leaders also expressed mixed views on the possibility of other life forms.

According to Bishop Rubin Phillip, head of the Anglican Church in KwaZulu-Natal, God created all life in the universe, not just on Earth.

As a result, it was his belief that Christianity could include the possibility of life beyond our planet.

“The Bible talks about God creating every living creature. God created all life and not just life on Earth alone, but in the whole universe.

“If life is discovered in the universe, this is not a contradiction of our beliefs, because God created life and we believe that there is life all over,” said Bishop Phillip.

Dr Faisal Suliman of the SA Muslim Network said there was nothing in the Qur’an that negated the possibility of other creations in the universe.

“Yes, we believe that we may not be the only creations in the universe.

“The Qur’an does not say that we are the only creation,” said Suliman.

However, Ashwin Trikamjee, president of the SA Hindu Maha Sabha, rejected the notion of alien life.

“Hinduism believes in Karma and that if you have been doing good, you come back again.

“The soul finds itself another body to live in.

“Therefore there is no space for any other life,” he said.

Shembe (Ebuhleni) spokesperson Thokozani Mncwabe also dismissed the idea that there could be life on other planets.

“I do not wish to stretch much on the matter, however, we strongly believe that all living creatures are on Earth and anything else is a fable,” said Mncwabe.

Thousands of people have reported the observation of structured craft that maneuver beyond our technological capability or that of any other nation. They appear to have overcome inertia and have their own gravitational field. Non-human figures have been observed both in the craft and on the ground. Sometimes they appear to be collecting samples of our flora and fauna.

They take samples of our wildlife and leave them with highly unusual properties, to the ground. They have been observed entering our oceans and rising from them into the air, departing vertically toward space. Thousands contend they have been kidnapped by non-humans in association with these craft and returned to their natural environment. Others claim that they’ve had a lifetime of friendly contact.

Either Stars are Strange, or There Are 234 Aliens Trying to Contact Us

We all want there to be aliens. Green ones, pink ones, brown ones, Greys. Or maybe Vulcans, Klingons, even a being of pure energy. Any type will do.

That’s why whenever a mysterious signal or energetic fluctuation arrives from somewhere in the cosmos and hits one of our many telescopes, headlines erupt across the media: “Have We Finally Detected An Alien Signal?” or “Have Astronomers Discovered An Alien Megastructure?” But science-minded people know that we’re probably getting ahead of ourselves.

Skepticism still rules the day when it comes to these headlines, and the events that spawn them. That’s the way it should be, because we’ve always found a more prosaic reason for whatever signal from space we’re talking about. But, being skeptical is a balancing act; it doesn’t mean being dismissive.

What we’re talking about here is a new study from E.F. Borra and E. Trottier, two astronomers at Laval University in Canada. Their study, titled “Discovery of peculiar periodic spectral modulations in a small fraction of solar type stars” was just published at arXiv.org. ArXiv.org is a pre-print website, so the paper itself hasn’t been peer reviewed yet. But it is generating interest.

The two astronomers used data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, and analyzed the spectra of 2.5 million stars. Of all those stars, they found 234 stars that are producing a puzzling signal. That’s only a tiny percentage. And, they say, these signals “have exactly the shape of an ETI signal” that was predicted in a previous study by Borra.

Image: Ermanno F. Borra and Eric Trottier

Prediction is a key part of the scientific method. If you develop a theory, your theory looks better and better the more you can use it to correctly predict some future events based on it. Look how many times Einstein’s predictions based on Relativity have been proven correct.

The 234 stars in Borra and Trottier’s study aren’t random. They’re “overwhelmingly in the F2 to K1 spectral range” according to the abstract. That’s significant because this is a small range centred around the spectrum of our own Sun. And our own Sun is the only one we know of that has an intelligent species living near it. If ours does, maybe others do too?

The authors acknowledge five potential causes of their findings: instrumental and data reduction effects, rotational transitions in molecules, the Fourier transform of spectral lines, rapid pulsations, and finally the ETI signal predicted by Borra (2012). They dismiss molecules or pulsations as causes, and they deem it highly unlikely that the signals are caused by the Fourier analysis itself. This leaves two possible sources for the detected signals. Either they’re a result of the Sloan instrument itself and the data reduction, or they are in fact a signal from extra-terrestrial intelligences.

This graph shows the number of detected signals by Spectral Type of star. Image: Ermanno F. Borra and Eric Trottier

This graph shows the number of detected signals by Spectral Type of star.
Image: Ermanno F. Borra and Eric Trottier

The detected signals are pulses of light separated by a constant time interval. These types of signals were predicted by Borra in his 2012 paper, and they are what he and Trottier set out to find in the Sloan data. It may be a bit of a red flag when scientist’s find the very thing they predicted they would find. But Trottier and Borra are circumspect about their own results.

As the authors say in their paper, “Although unlikely, there is also a possibility that the signals are due to highly peculiar chemical compositions in a small fraction of galactic halo stars.” It may be unlikely, but lots of discoveries seem unlikely at first. Maybe there is a tiny subset of stars with chemical peculiarities that make them act in this way.

To sum it all up, the two astronomers have found a tiny number of stars, very similar to our own Sun, that seem to be the source of pulsed signals. These signals are the same as predicted if a technological society was using powerful lasers to communicate with distant stars.

We all want there to be aliens, and maybe the first sign of them will be pulsed light signals from stars like our own Sun. But it’s all still very preliminary, and as the authors acknowledge, “…at this stage, this hypothesis needs to be confirmed with further work.”

That further work is already being planned by the Breakthrough Listen Initiative, a project that searches for intelligent life in the cosmos. They plan to use the Automated Planet Finder telescope at the Lick Observatory to further observe some of Borra’s 234 stars.

Breakthrough team don’t seem that excited about Borra’s findings. They’ve already poured cold water on it, trotting out the old axiom that “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence” in a statement on Borra’s paper. They also give Borra’s findings a score of 0 to 1 on the Rio Scale. The Rio Scale is something used by the international SETI community to rank detections of phenomena that could indicate advanced life beyond Earth. A rating of 0 to 1 means its insignificant.

Better reign in the headline writers.

New Research Suggests Octopuses Have Extraterrestrial Origins

     By: Zoe Blarowski

Octopuses are known to be intelligent, advanced creatures, able to create their own shelter, change color in an instant and even adapt well to climate change.

In a new study, a group of 33 international scientists suggest these unique traits may have an unearthly origin. They investigated the theory that octopuses may have evolved from life forms that came to earth on ancient comets.

This isn’t a new concept. Scientists have been grappling with the origins of life on our planet for centuries. And this study adds an intriguing look into the theory of panspermia, that suggests the evolution of life on Earth has, and continues to be, influenced by the arrival of organisms from space.

The study has faced some criticism, but the scientists have also supported their claims with well-established research. Let’s take a closer look at their findings.

    THE THEORY OF PANSPERMIA

In the 1980s, astronomer Fred Hoyle teamed up with astrobiologist Chandra Wickramasinghe to propose that life didn’t originate on earth. In fact, life was seeded on our planet by comets carrying space-hardy bacteria, viruses and perhaps even fertilized eggs and plant seeds. This concept is scientifically known as “panspermia”.

The earliest microbial life found on Earth was discovered in Canadian rocks and is estimated to be about 4.1-4.23 billion years old. This was during the Hadean epoch, when the earth was still forming its core and crust, as well as its atmosphere and oceans. Our planet had frequent and violent collisions with asteroids and comets during that period, and the surface was still extremely hot and unstable.

The study’s researchers propose that it was impossible for life to have formed on Earth during this time. The first microbes found in Canada were most likely delivered by comets and meteorites that impacted with our planet, and these microbes went on to become the basis of terrestrial life on Earth.

WHAT CAN ACTUALLY SURVIVE ON A COMET?

Comet-hopping life forms may sound far-fetched, but research is starting to show this may be a distinct reality. Evidence has found that comets would have contained vast amounts of water in their interiors when they were first formed billions of years ago at the dawn of our solar system. These protected, watery environments would have provided ideal conditions for early bacteria and viruses to grow and multiply.

The discovery of a wide variety of ancient organic particles in comets also supports this theory. Organic particles are important precursors for the creation of molecules that are the foundation of life, such as sugars, amino acids and DNA bases.

Once comets had cooled down and after millions of years in space, evidence suggests the primitive bacteria and viruses living on them became embedded in rock, carbonaceous material or ice. This effectively protected them from the intense radiation and sub-zero temperatures encountered in space.

Although not proven, it is also possible that more complex life forms, such as fertilized eggs and plant seeds, could also have survived in similar conditions.

WHAT OCTOPUSES CAN TELL US ABOUT EVOLUTION

Octopuses are actually related to slugs and snails. They belong to a group of mollusks known as cephalopods that developed about 500 million years ago during what’s known as the Cambrian Explosion. This was a time when life in the earth’s oceans went through a dramatic stage of diversification and evolution, and most of the ancestors of modern life were born.

The new study, titled “Cause of the Cambrian Explosion – Terrestrial or Cosmic?”, investigated panspermia and how it may relate to the Cambrian Explosion, and the rise of life forms like octopuses. They made a few important conclusions.

    1. Virus-bearing comets fueled the Cambrian Explosion.

Viruses are the smallest living organism on earth, and they reproduce by attaching themselves to a host cell in another living organism and inserting their own genetic material into the cell. This changes the genetic structure of the host cells, which can cause disease in the host.

This also means that a viral infection can alter the host’s genetic code, and potentially change its course of evolution. Retroviruses are a specific type of virus that first appeared and multiplied just before the Cambrian Explosion.

And the researchers believe these retroviruses came from cometary bombardment the Earth was experiencing around the same time. As the comets broke up and left debris trails in the Earth’s atmosphere, dormant retroviruses were released and spread across our planet’s surface.

This wide-spread introduction of new genetic material in the form of viruses affected the development of life in our planet’s oceans, and potentially all land-dwelling life forms that came later.

    2. Octopuses appeared too abruptly to have evolved on Earth.

The introduction of interstellar viruses may have increased the genetic diversity of life on our planet, but octopuses have some unique genetic traits that simply don’t make sense from an evolutionary stand point.

Genetically, octopuses are significantly different than most other life forms on Earth. Their large brains, sophisticated nervous systems, flexible bodies and ability to instantly switch color and shape are still very unique compared to other modern life forms.

And these striking traits appeared very suddenly on the evolutionary scene about 270 million years ago. The research group concluded that this sudden “great leap forward” would be impossible in such a short time frame.

“Thus the possibility that cryopreserved squid and/or octopus eggs, arrived in icy bolides several hundred million years ago should not be discounted,” the researchers say.

HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO LIFE ON EARTH TODAY?

We may never know whether or not octopus eggs actually arrived on Earth from outer space, but the theory of panspermia does hold the potential for a radical shift in our world view.

The research group concluded their study by discussing the need to change from our outdated view of life originating exclusively on Earth to one incorporating “cosmic biology,” which recognizes the scientific evidence that life on our planet may have been, and continues to be, influenced by organisms that arrive from outer space.

They also point out the vast number of Earth-like planets and other life-friendly planetary bodies that exist in our galaxy, and the potential for billions of exchanges of material between them through meteorites, cometary bolides and even space dust.

“One is thus forced in our view to conclude that the entire galaxy (and perhaps our local group of galaxies) constitutes a single connected biosphere,” the researchers write.

    • What do you think? Is Earth part of an intergalactic web of life? Or are we alone in the universe? Please share your thoughts in the comments!

Communicating With Aliens Is Hard. Communicating With Alien AI Could Be Harder

This gold-anodized aluminum plaque was attached to the Pioneer 10 spacecraft before it was launched into space on March 2, 1972. (Note: Due to size limitations, the entire plaque is not pictured here.)
    NASA/GETTY IMAGES

One of the biggest voices in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, or SETI, once wrote that humans should be prepared to deal not just with aliens, but also with their artificial intelligence. Seth Shostak, senior astronomer for the SETI Institute, based his argument on watching us create both basic AI and cloud computing technology and sending robots to explore places we currently can't go. If we can do that, why couldn't an alien species do something similar?

The communication part is where it gets tricky. The prospect of getting aliens to understand what we're saying is hard enough. What chance would an alien machine have? After all, whatever signals we send might seem based on immutable laws of math to most of us, but they'd be arbitrary to an extraterrestrial mind, organic or synthetic. For instance, the fact that we divide information into bits and bytes, that each byte contains eight bits, and there are 1024 bytes in a kilobyte are consequences of computing being adjusted to better handle certain arbitrary communication protocols. So, while we could imagine beaming pulses that are neatly decoded into greetings and instructions for alien probes, how do we know that these machines could understand our Earth-centric standards?

Shostak says we shouldn't worry about that. An alien machine could do what we do when we're trying to understand a different language. They could parse it for distinct patterns, notice repetitions and conclude that what they're receiving is an intelligent signal.

"If you just said lots of things," he explains, "and no matter what is at the other end, if it's an intelligent machine, then it can certainly go through all that information and pick out the redundancies. Even if it's little gray guys with big eyeballs, they probably have some big computers and so they could do the same thing with their computers."

In fact, he argues that trying to send a large volume of data is a more efficient way for aliens to understand our language, more efficient than signals showing that we understand the laws of mathematics. Faced with vast amounts of data, alien machinery could build up a large list of nouns and learn to associate them with certain images.

"If they were parsing [the digital version of] The Library of Congress, they would quickly learn that the name for this square thing with four wheels is 'automobile,'" he says. "What will be hard is understanding verbs, but they could certainly pull out sequences and try to figure them out, kind of how you learn to read actually, although you'd already know the language."

Of course, there's only so far we can broadcast our radio signals, and there are only so many targets at which we can aim our lasers. But let's say that at some point alien machines do encounter our probes. It's very unlikely the two devices will be able to successfully communicate because in a few hundred years the electronics on our probes would fail thanks to wear and tear and the radiation of outer space. It's also statistically unlikely they'd be quickly found by an alien spaceship. However, says Shostak, that doesn't mean there wouldn't be a lot for aliens to learn from the discovery, starting with analyzing the probes' levels of technology.

"Say something happened to Christopher Columbus' ships and they all sank except maybe one," he elaborates. "So imagine that Santa Maria washes up on the shore and Native Americans go down and take a look at this ship. What can they tell about the culture that was on the other side of the ocean that launched this ship? Well, they have metal, and they have big pieces of cloth that serve some function they can probably figure out what the purpose of it was. They'd see a rudder and certainly know what a rudder was. They could certainly learn a lot from just the technology about the relative technical sophistication of the culture at the other end."

Each of the two Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977 carry one of the 12-inch gold-plated phonograph records pictured here, replete with images and sounds from Earth.
    NASA

And while Shostak says aliens are probably never going to run into the Voyager or the Pioneer probes, they'd be intrigued with the technology we put into them, more intrigued than with any plaques adorning said probes. If anything, he argues that equipping probes for first contact should be done with as much data as possible and allow alien machines to figure out the rest.

In other words, aliens will understand our communication protocols as long as we're consistent about the ones we send and we make sure to give them a lot of data so they can decipher that they're dealing with a language. How much time and energy they'll invest in their process will likely be determined by their priorities and the limitations of their machines' programming, but it's unlikely that alien machines and their handlers won't at least recognize that they've made first contact with something out there.

The US government made a pact with Aliens for otherworldly technology

There are numerous Ufologists who claim that extraterrestrial beings have worked with our government for years. This theory, which has been seriously ridiculed by many, might actually be true since numerous scientists and governmental official have come forward suggesting that there is more to alien life on Earth than previously believed.

Philip Schneider was a man who is believed to have come forward with highly classified information. He was a geologist and structural engineer of the Government of the United States and was involved in the construction of deep underground military bases in the United States with the Army Corps of Engineers. He was one of three people to survive the 1979 fire fight between the large Greys and U.S. intelligence and military forces at Dulce underground base. At Dulce, Schneider maintained, “gray” humanoid extraterrestrials worked side by side with American technicians. In 1979, a misunderstanding arose. In the ensuing shootout, 66 Secret Service, FBI and Black Berets were killed along with an unspecified number of “grays”.

Philip Schneider’s father, Oscar Schneider was a medical advisor to the US Navy. During the last two years of his life, Phil Schneider gave over 30 lectures to a variety of audiences around the world talking about highly classified information of the government involving alien technology, alien weapons, experiments and pacts between governments worldwide and aliens.

Many people remained skeptical about what Schneider had brought forward and much of his life was seriously questioned by people worldwide. He was ridiculed by many, but there were many who believed that what Schneider was telling was the absolute truth, something that no one dared to talk about.

Mysteriously in 1996, Schneider was found dead in his apartment. Authorities said it was a suicide, but many people believe that Schneider was killed because he had leaked extremely classified information to the public.

In 1954, former President Dwight Eisenhower, made a pact with three species of aliens, Schneider said at a conference in 1995. n exchange for alien technology, Eisenhower allegedly gave permission for the aliens to abduct a limited number human beings to perform numerous experiments on Earth and in space.

    Screen Shot 2015-07-19 at 11.28.19

Schneider said that many of the thousands people who have gone missing around the world, may have been taken by aliens. He said there are nine races of aliens who see the human race as “a bag of food.”

According to Schneider, the technology that aliens gave us as part of this exchange includes a type of metal that is almost indestructible. Schneider showed the audience what he said was a piece of this metal. It is made of niobium, an element that we have in the periodic table, and Marinite, a strange element which is not found on Earth.

But there were other technological utilities that aliens gave to humans thanks to the pacts. The government was able to develop a spy satellite with help of aliens that can detect a penny on the floor of your kitchen according to Schneider. This spy-satellite uses some sort of infrared technology with a resolution factor of 99.99961.

But this pact was broken by the aliens since they have abducted way more aliens than agreed. According to Schneider, since the pact was broken there have been tensions among alien races and humans.

Alien Abduction: 8 True Stories to Make you Terrified of UFOs

If some good evidence for life after death were announced, I’d be eager to examine it; but it would have to be real scientific data, not mere anecdote. As with the face on Mars and alien abductions, better the hard truth, I say, than the comforting fantasy.

    Carl Sagan

There are people who claim that the extraterrestrials abducted them. Brace yourself to get familiar with these true stories because they are sure to give you jitters down your spine. The claims of the real life alien abductions may be true or may not be, but they will definitely petrify you of the UFOs. Here we begin with the alleged true stories of alien abductions.

1 – Abduction of Clayton & Donna Lee

The heart wrenching story of Clayton and Donna Lee claims that the aliens stole a foetus from Donna. Clayton claims that the aliens abducted him in his childhood, while he was visiting a park. Donna says that she remembers floating around the stars and darkness.

Donna claimed in one of the media outlets that she saw the aliens and they took her to a far off place in a vehicle, full of metal. The couple say that they remain petrified all the time, fearing these kind of abductions.

2 – Alien Abduction of Amy

Amy, a 22 year old girl alleges that the aliens abducted her right out of the window of her lounge room. She was with her friend Petra, who claims to witness a bright light post which, a spaceship sort of a thing lifted Amy up. Strangely, the police found Amy miles away from her house, with some weird marks on her inner thighs.

3 – Abduction of the Russian Millionaire and Politician

Believe it or not, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov claims that from his window, a spaceship kidnapped him and took him to some star. He says that he has seen and talked to the aliens. According to him, the aliens are people like us.

    4 – Robert Taylor Incident

This incident does not involve alien abductions but it does involve alien encounter. According to Robert Taylor, a forestry worker in Livingston, a spaceship tried to pull him into it. He says, he fell unconscious after an alien encounter and upon gaining consciousness, he was completely out of energy and lost his voice. His dog went hysteric to an extent that it was difficult for him to control it.

    5 – Travis Walton’s Abduction Story

Travis Walton, a forestry worker in Arizona, states that three men with bald head and huge eyes, interrogated him after kidnapping him. He, along with his six friends, was heading home after work one night, when they saw a blinding streak of light. Thinking it to be a plane crash, they went to the spot, but it was allegedly a spaceship.

Apparently Walton went closer to the ship, and got abducted by the aliens. His friends claim to witness Walton floating up in the ship. But, on reporting this incident to the police, they did not believe these forestry workers. Even after some gruelling rounds of interrogation, their statements did not change.

6 – Abduction from Manhattan Apartment

Linda Napolitano (Originally Linda Cortile), a Manhattan resident, describes an unbelievable episode of alien abduction. She alleges that the aliens took her from her window, inside their spaceship where she witnessed benches, tables and sliding doors. Strangely, her story supports the claims made by two bodyguards of the United Nations.

7 – Bizarre Visitation of Real Life Men in Black

Robert Richardson supposedly had an encounter with two men who instantly vanished the moment he wanted to inspect them. What the men let behind was a piece of metal, which Richardson took home with him. He alleges that after three days, the men suddenly reappeared at his house to ask for the metal, which Richardson had sent to the lab for analysis. After asking them to leave, he never saw them again.

8 – Betty and Barney Hill Abduction

Betty and Barney claim that they witnessed a UFO while driving back to home from a vacation. Barney alleges that he saw people inside the spaceship with the help of his binoculars. They allege of alien encounters in their dreams.  Their claims are that the aliens examined their bodies and tried to wipe their minds completely.

UFO news: ‘Alien Borg Cube’ caught on NASA camera near the Sun – SHOCK CLAIM

A GIANT Star Trek-like alien spacecraft was seen hovering around the burning corona of the Sun, according to prominent UFO hunter Scott Waring.

     (Image: SCOTT WARING/STAR TREK)

The  hunter likened the supposed alien spacecraft to a Borg Cube from the Science Fiction franchise Star Trek. Mr Waring, who runs the UFO investigation website UFOSightingsDaily.com, came across the alien cube in a photo snapped by NASA’s Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) spacecraft. He said: “The cube as you see, has something coming out of it – there is an opening.

“It looks like there is a dark opening and there is some whitish material around it.

“There is more white material here and this white object has a little trail coming out in this direction like it was coming out of this doorway.

“So it does look like the cube opened up the doorway and something came out.
“That’s my best guess right there on that.”

Mr Waring’s photos appear to show a large pixelated square mass near the burning star at the centre of the solar system.

A number of smaller objects are trailing away from the larger cube which the conspiracist thinks could be smaller vessels or spacecraft.

There also appears to be a wide opening in the cube’s side – a bay door or portal of some sorts.

The UFO hunter drew comparisons between the cube and the Borg spacecraft due to their uncanny resemblance.

In Star Trek, the alien cyborg race known as the Borgs travelled through space in giant cubes without any discernible features on the outside.

That looks like a Borg Cube, doesn’t it?

    Scott Waring, UFO hunter

The  cube found by Mr Waring appears to follow a similar principle.

Mr Waring said: “That looks like a Borg Cube, doesn’t it? I mean it really looks like one of those Star Trek Borg Cubes.

“That’s really crazy cool, super, super, super strange. “

Some of the people who saw Mr Waring’s latest finding were amazed by the concept of a spacecraft this bizarre barrelling through space.

Samuel Figueroa commented on YouTube: “Wow, amazing cube spaceship, and the little ones coming out of it. Wow, super awesome thanks.”

And YouTuber Liz M said: “Thank you for bringing us an honest opinion and showing us exactly what is there.”

There were, however, some YouTubers who questioned the validity of the photographs.

Some people suggested the alien cube was simply a digital glitch in the NASA photo and others even more bizarrely suggested the space agency was attempting to hide something from sight.

’s SOHO spacecraft is a real-time observation platform, designed to capture snapshots of the Sun for more accurate space weather predictions.

Life on Mars: ‘ANCIENT city’ on Red Planet is ‘100 percent proof’ of aliens

MARS may be home to an ancient civilisation if photos from a prominent UFO hunter supposedly showing ruins on the Red Planet are proven to be true.

Conspiracy theorists have been on the hunt to prove NASA has been lying to the public about life on Mars. Now, one may have revealed some evidence which seemingly shows an ancient structure on the Red Planet. The image, taken by NASA satellites hovering over Mars, appears to depict ancient structures and even stone carvings.

In the picture, which includes annotations, walls look as if they appear to have been built as if they are part of a fortress,

Prominent alien hunter Scott C Waring says this is “100 percent” proof that life does, or did, exist on the Red Planet.

He wrote on his blog, UFO Sightings Daily: “I found a lot of ancient structures in a Mars photo today. These structures are long and almost resemble walls, but are buildings in long lines.

“I also discovered a face carved into a hill top, but is so ancient, it may be hard for some to see its details.

“This is 100 percent proof that ancient civilisations once flourished on the surface of Mars, and that NASA doesn't want you to know about it.”

Sceptics and NASA would say the ‘city’ and other similar findings are just the effects of pareidolia – a psychological phenomenon when the brain tricks the eyes into seeing familiar objects or shapes in patterns or textures such as a rock surface.

This is not the first time that ‘evidence’ of aliens on Mars has been discovered.

Earlier this year, an "alien face" was found in a NASA satellite image of Mars, according to more bonkers claims.

Mr Waring was convinced it could be a rock carving, done by a Martian race, in the same way ancient Britons carved out the chalk figures in hillsides like the giant of Cerene Abbas in Dorset and the Long Man of Wilmington in East Sussex.

However, NASA insisted the rock is just a meteorite impact crater that has been left in the unusual form by later erosion.

When NASA released the image under the "alien head" caption, it said: "The image shows an impact crater in Chryse Planitia, not too far from the Viking 1 lander site, that to seems to resemble a bug-eyed head.

"The two odd depressions at the north end of the crater (the ‘eyes’) may have formed by wind or water erosion.

"This region has been modified by both processes, with water action occurring in the distant past via floods that poured across western Chryse Planitia from Maja Valles, and wind action common occurrence in more recent history.”

WERE THE DULCE MILITARY BASE WARS REAL?

Unbelievable? A number of strange narratives related to the Dulce battle, including those from locals and law enforcement, attest to strange phenomenon in the area. And all of the relevant names in this story are tied to each other in different ways, but everyone experiencing different strange occurrences, most with dark outcomes. But whether the stories are the product of actual extraterrestrial activity or government scare tactics remains fodder for debate.

After the alleged battle, Schneider dedicated his life to serving as a whistleblower, exposing the events that occurred during his time there. There are videos of Schneider describing the experiments conducted deep underground by the greys on live humans. He said that human specimens were kept in liquid-filled capsules where the greys experimented with human DNA. Schneider said that the greys would absorb the blood of humans and cattle for sustenance.

The fate of Philip Schneider, however, adds to the level of conspiracy and the extent to which intelligence agents were involved. Schneider spent the latter part of his life giving speeches about his alleged experiences at the Dulce base. He often said he was being watched by the government and that if he ever was found to have committed suicide, one could assume he was murdered. In 1996, Schneider was found dead with the cord of a catheter wrapped around his neck, in what was labelled a suicide

Another name involved with the case, of questionable provenance, was a security guard on base named, Thomas Castello. He also allegedly witnessed this project and saw local missing persons underground being experimented on by the greys. Castello says he witnessed the rising tension and paranoia between the thousands of aliens and government employees in advance of the violent battle as well, but there isn’t much else about him.

    FURTHER DULCE BASE PROOF

A little over a year ago, a local newspaper interviewed Dulce residents on the Jicarilla Apache reservation, home to about 2,500 people. Residents of the town are quick to discuss their experiences, strange phenomena and sightings around the base which is near the UFO Highway. The town has embraced the UFO community and has become the next tourist stop after Roswell.

One account from a state trooper in 1975 maintained the hype around Dulce. The trooper, Gabe Valdez, reported coming across a mutilated cattle carcass in a field outside of Dulce. Valdez said he discovered a fetus inside the cattle that he described as looking, “like a human, a monkey and a frog. It didn’t have any bones in the head. It was all full of water.” He said what he saw looked like “an incubation chamber for a cloned creature,” much like the experiments purported to have taken place deep below ground.

After discovering the carcass, Valdez alleges he found listening devices in his home, and reported UFO sightings. Valdez claims there are four underground bases at Dulce, which are now inactive, but he does not believe there were any alien beings there.

He said he believes the UFOs he saw were not necessarily extraterrestrial, but highly advanced, stealth military aircraft, including silent, black helicopters. He also revealed that he has insight into what the military was researching at the base, but cannot disclose it for reasons unknown. Could Valdez he be implying that his discoveries uncovered some bizarre biological experiments conducted by the government?

    Atomic refuge in Moscow (Russia)

    A MILITARY INTELLIGENCE CONSPIRACY

The story of Paul Bennewitz, a key figure in the perpetuation of the Dulce Air Force base story, adds another kink to the narrative. In the ’70s, Bennewitz researched clandestine government programs conducted at the Kirtland Air Force base in Albuquerque.

Bennewitz’s research revealed information he said made government officials nervous. To prevent him from further discovering secret programs, government operatives, namely Richard Doty, were tasked with feeding Bennewitz false stories about alien bases in New Mexico. He says they employed the help of famous ufologist William Moore, who co-authored The Roswell Incident. Doty and Moore’s efforts drove Bennewitz to the brink of paranoid insanity.

It seem that much of the propagation of the Dulce Air Force base battle can be attributed to Bennewitz and the government’s insidious operation to subversively drive him insane. If Bennewitz’s story was proven to be fabricated by Doty, where does Schneider’s story fit in? Was he also manipulated into believing the stories told to Bennewitz, or was he uncovering other secrets the government didn’t want him to know? One of the subjects Schneider often discussed, in addition to the Dulce story, was the government’s black budget for classified programs. Was Schnieder on the cusp of exposing nefarious government projects, or was the government afraid he worked for the Soviets? Whatever the case, the implications of government foul play are more than evident.
