Expert: Beware of contact with aliens

An Australian scientist who this week was given a $100 million boost to help search for extraterrestrial intelligence has warned of the dangers should aliens ever make contact with Earth.

Professor Matthew Bailes said humans must ‘think very carefully’ if aliens were ever to contact us, as anything from outer space that is intelligent enough to send a signal will most likely be smarter than us — and thus most probably more dangerous.

Earlier this week physicist Stephen Hawking teamed up with a Russian billionaire to launch a new quest to discover life on other planets.

The celebrated scientist gave his backing to Yuri Milner’s Breakthrough Initiatives project, which will provide $100 million over the next decade to those searching for extraterrestrial intelligence.

Mr Milner, an entrepreneur who made his fortune through investments in technology companies such as Facebook, said he will harness the innovation of Silicon Valley to scan the skies for signs of life, including searching the entire Milky Way and 100 nearby galaxies

The Breakthrough Listen branch of the project will use the world’s finest telescopes to carry out state-of-the-art radio and optical surveys.

Bailes, a Swinburne University academic was only told a few days earlier that he would lead the Australian team searching the skies.

Cue excitement. Could we make contact with a lovable alien like E.T?

Bailes urged caution if we discover a signal sent by aliens, evoking memories of the chaos depicted in the film Independence Day when extraterrestrials set out to destroy earth. “I think we should think very carefully before we reply to a signal received from outer space. The history of weak civilisations contacting more advanced civilisations is not a happy one.”

“The difficulty is to know what sort of signal we are looking for. There is no manual on how to find aliens. We’ll have to imagine the sort of transmissions an alien race might send, and a variety of strategies will have to be deployed ranging from looking for single bursts to signals that might be more encoded in other transmissions.

“The signal is likely to be quite feeble after coming vast distances. We’ll need to be looking for advanced civilisations that have significantly more transmission grunt than we are capable of on Earth.

“Hopefully they send a transmission pattern we can recognise such as prime numbers, or a mathematical construct at a frequency that might have some significance to us.”

“We could be really lucky and find something coming from tens of light years away, but it is far more likely to come from thousands of light years away.

“Even if we discovered one tomorrow we’d all be long dead and buried before we could reply and the aliens would get an answer,,” he said.

U.S. Government Releases Document With Details Of Extraterrestrial Bodies, Craft & Home Planet

With several governments around the world openly admitting to the existence of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs), the United States government has received a large push from its citizens to disclose the truth about their knowledge of this bizarre yet fascinating phenomenon.

As a result, in late 2014 Barack Obama’s right hand man, (Councillor) Jon Podesta, who was also the Chief of Staff under the Clinton administration, tweeted that one of his biggest regrets of 2014 was his inability to “secure the disclosure of UFO files” and that “the time to pull the curtain back on this subject is long overdue. We have statements from the most credible sources, those in a position to know – about a fascinating phenomenon, the nature of which is yet to be determined.” (You can read more about Podesta and UFOs here.)

Despite these recent public omissions, the White House still maintains that it does not have any such information. The thing is, it’s probably true, as the secrecy surrounding this subject most likely goes far beyond the government, extending into the world of private contractors and a tightly knit group of powerful international elites who control what Eisenhower called, “the military industrial complex.” He warned that this area carried the potential for a “misplaced power” to “exist and persist,” and that this was a “disaster.” (source)

What we do know is that dozens of governments have declassified thousands of pages of “UFO” files which prove that they’ve had a keen interest in the subject for decades. Some of these documents are quite startling, you can see examples of what I am talking about in an article we published about what happens when the military tracks a “UFO” on radar. Read that HERE.

It’s not only international governments; the FBI, CIA, and NSA have all declassified some of the secret files, which again demonstrates a high level of interest in the phenomenon:

“Behind the scenes, high ranking air force officers are soberly concerned about the UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe that the unknown flying objects are nonsense.” – Former Head of CIA, Roscoe Hillenkoetter, 1960 (source) 

Although many pages of documents have been released, Podesta’s statement (a few paragraphs above) clearly indicates that they represent only the tip of the iceberg.

The Document & Why It’s Important

The document referred to in the title of this article can be found here (pages 21 & 22), in the FBI’s vault of declassified documents.

Although there are already many startling documents to consider (as shown in the article linked in the above paragraphs about military radar tracking of UFOs), the FBI always seems to brush off their importance, despite keeping detailed records and maintaining a high level of interest since their inception.

This particular document was addressed to “certain scientists of distinction,” to “aeronautical and military authorities,” and to “a number of public officials.”

The document is a letter that was sent to the director of FBI in Washington from the San Fransisco office, on a matter pertaining to UFOs & extraterrestrials:

“Lt. Colonel (name redacted) of G2 [G2 means army intelligence], San Francisco advised today he has no further information, and that our Seattle office is in  possession of all information known by him and is handling the matter at Tacoma, Washington.”

The document goes on to provide a copy of a letter written by someone with “several university degrees” and a former “university department head.”

The memorandum also states that “the mere fact that the data herein were obtained by so-called  ‘supernormal’ means is probably sufficient to insure its disregard by nearly all persons addressed.”

Key words above – the fact that they would like to “insure its disregard” by “nearly” everyone addressed.  Does this mean that ‘some’ of the people addressed should not disregard it?

The letter goes on to outline and state that: (pages 21 & 22)

• Part of the disks carry crews, others are under remote control.
• Their mission is peaceful, the visitors contemplate settling on this planet.
• These visitors are human-like but much larger in size.
• They are not excarnate Earth people, but come from their own world
• The disks posses some type of radiant energy.
• They do not come from any “planet” as we use the word, but from an etheric planet which interpenetrates with our own and is not perceptible to us.
• The bodies of the visitors, and the craft also, automatically materialize on entering the vibratory rate of our dense matter.
• They re-enter the etheric at will, and so simply disappear from our vision, without trace.
• The region they come from is NOT the astral plane, but corresponds to the Lakas or Talas. Students of esoteric matters will understand these terms.

Remember, this is just one document out of many others that are just as startling, many of which do not attempt to undermine the import of their own contents. Here is an example.

Why have these agencies maintained such a high level of interest in this phenomenon for decades? What else are they aware of? Is this document referring to one specific instance? Is there more than one race? Are some of them “physical?” Are some “extra dimensional?” Do you think these agencies have asked the same questions? Do you think they’ve been trying to find out?

I’ll leave you with some of the best quotes we have out there on the subject, quotes that compliment all the documents that have been released. This isn’t a movie, it’s the real thing, and it’s pretty important.

3 Ways Intelligent Extraterrestrials Could Traverse The Universe In Seconds

Thanks to the official disclosure of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) by dozens of countries which details encounters with UFOs, more questions are being asked. It seems logical, how are people supposed to respond to the fact that these objects are commonly tracked on radar by military agencies, visually confirmed by the pilots sent out to investigate them, and perform maneuvers that defy our current understanding of physics? It wasn’t too long ago that the existence of ‘UFOs’ was considered nonsense, but now that their existence again, has been ‘officially’ verified in the ‘mainstream,’ the question is now shifting to, “What are they?” As you can see from the quote above, Dr. Jack Kasher believes ‘they’ are extraterrestrial craft, and he is joined by hundreds of other scientists, academicians, high ranking military people, and politicians who share the same opinion.

Apart from wondering what and who exactly these beings are, people are also asking how they got here. Below are some possible explanations, but a civilization so advanced as to visit us probably has methods that we cannot yet comprehend.

THE ALCUBIERRE DRIVE

The idea behind the Alcubierre Drive is to basically place a craft within a space that is moving faster than the speed of light. Therefore the craft itself does not have to travel at the speed of light from its own type of propulsion system. It’s easier to understand if you think in terms of a flat escalator in an airport. The escalator moves faster than you are walking! In this case, the space encompassing the ship would be moving faster than the ship could fly, keeping all the matter of the ship intact. Therefore, we can move faster than light in a massless cloud of space-time.

The Alcubierre Drive is based on Einstein’s field equations, and it  suggests that a spacecraft could achieve faster-than-light travel. Rather than exceed the speed of light alone in a craft, a spacecraft would leap long distances by contracting space in front of it and expanding space behind it. This would result in faster than light travel (source). Physicist Miguel Alcubierre was the first (that we know of) to identify this possibility. He described it as remaining still on a flat piece of space-time inside a warp bubble that was made to move at “superluminal” (faster than light) velocity. We must not forget that space-time can be warped and distorted, it can be moved. But what about moving sections of space-time which are created by expanding space-time behind the ship, and by contracting space-time in front of the ship?

A similar concept was also recently illustrated by Mathematician James Hill and Barry Cox at the University of Adelaide. They published a paper in the journal proceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical and Physical Sciences (source).

Quantum Entanglement: All Points In Space Are Connected

You can view a visual demonstration/basic explanation of quantum entanglement here. Einstein himself could not wrap his head around it and referred to it as “spooky action at a distance.” The phenomenon was recently confirmed by the Griffith University’s Centre for Quantum Dynamics, you can read more about that story here.

Quantum entanglement suggests that space is just the construct that gives the illusion of seperation. As demonstrated in the vido linked above, if you take two particles and put one of them on the opposite side of the universe, the moment you do something to one of them the same reaction occurs instantaneously in the other one. This suggests that either the pieces of matter are “entangled” or connected, or that information is travelling much faster than the speed of light.

So, if all points in space are connected, perhaps this could provide some insight into travelling to what we perceive to be the far reaches of the universe.

Ben Rich, the second director of Lockheed Skunkwork’s from 1975-1991, also known as  the Father of Stealth, made several shocking open statements about the reality of UFOs and extraterrestrials and how they are getting here.

“We already have the means to travel among the stars, but these technologies are locked up in black projects, and it would take an act of God to ever get them out to benefit humanity. Anything you can imagine, we already know how to do it. There are two types of UFOs, ones that we build and ones that ‘they’ build.”

When Rich was asked how UFO propulsion worked, he said, “Let me ask you. How does ESP work?” The questioner responded with, “All points in time and space are connected?” Rich then said, “That’s how it works!”

Wormholes

Wormholes are passages through space-time that would allow one to create ‘shortcuts’ through space in order to travel long distances. They are predicted by the general Theory of Relativity, and as of now still lie within the realm of theoretical physics. In 1935, Einstein referred to these as “bridges” through space-time, again, connecting two different points in space-time to create a shortcut. It’s also important to mention that the existence of these wormholes has been mathematically predicted, but are still considered theoretical.

A paper that was recently published in the Annals of physics offers mathematical evidence that a massive black hole in our galaxy is actually a wormhole. If this is true, it should be possible for humans to navigate it.

If we are being visited, perhaps wormholes are one of many possible means by which it’s happening.

The Billion-Year Technology Gap: Could One Exist?

Are we the lone sentient life in the universe? So far, we have no evidence to the contrary, and yet the odds that not one single other planet has evolved intelligent life would appear, from a statistical standpoint, to be quite small. The X-Files creator Chris Carter on government conspiracies and paranormal experiences 

The 'esprit de corps' has persuaded him to return to the much-loved series

It’s a broiling hot July morning in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and Chris Carter, creator of The X-Files, is patiently giving me an interview in the basement cafe at the Théâtre du Passage, the home of the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival. By rights, he shouldn’t be here at all. The Californian is midway through shooting a new six-part season of the show that originally ran from 1993 to 2002. He has left Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) back in Vancouver, where the team has recently finished the second episode, to come to Switzerland. He promised that he would attend the festival and is not the type to break his promise.

Carter confides that he has had only four hours’ sleep and that he is continuing to tweak scripts and to respond to notes from his colleagues in Vancouver, even as he attends to his duties at the festival. “We’ve just got our sea legs as it were,” Carter says of the resumption of The X-Files after such a long lay-off. The series has been customised for the Obama era and will feature plenty of references to Edward Snowden, WikiLeaks and Julian Assange.

The original series thrived on conspiracy theories and shadowy behaviour from the US security agencies. “You can imagine I was the least shocked person in the world,” Carter reflects on recent revelations about US government-sanctioned eavesdropping and cover-ups. “It is not surprising to me at all… those assertions and allegations are what I think The X-Files was built on.”

In the new series, Carter promises that he and his team will “monkey” with The X-Files mythology “and give you a spin and twist on that”. There will be a combination of what he calls mythology episodes and the stand-alone “so-called monster episodes”. Six episodes doesn’t seem that much of a stretch, given that the first season of The X-Files consisted of 25 episodes, shot over a year, and the second season was 24.

Remembering The X-Files

“When you shoot six, you think it is going to be a piece of cake. That isn’t the case,” Carter sighs. “It will take eight months of our lives, so it is an enormous undertaking, even though it seems like only a slice of what we had previously done.”

Back in the show’s prime, it was Carter’s job to keep The X-Files “oiled and running” and to ensure that the bosses at Fox, from owner Rupert Murdoch downwards, were happy. Murdoch attended the screening of the pilot episode (“I’ve had very little contact with him, but the first thing he ever said to me was ‘I like your TV shows’”).

The stress factor was enormous. He was responsible for keeping the series “fresh” and delivering the ratings that Fox craved. The gratification came from knowing that massive audiences (30 million for one episode broadcast after the Super Bowl) were watching and enjoying his work. It is also a huge source of pride that  The X-Files was deemed worthy of spoofing on The Simpsons. He still has a signed photograph from the Simpsons creator Matt Groening on his wall. “To make The Simpsons is to make the big time,” he declares, with surprising solemnity.

Carter seems a glutton for punishment. As he acknowledges, the old X-Files would demand his full commitment for 11-and-a-half months of the year. “It was as much work as you could possibly do. You worked from the moment you woke up until the moment you went to sleep. There was very little time even to stop to get a sense of how you were doing, or what you were doing.”

Why put himself through the grinder all over again? “The central reason is the esprit de corps. That is the reason to come back and do it again,” Carter says. “When you have a group of people working together, who all contribute to make it better, that is something. If you have never experienced it, that is somewhat miraculous. It is stepping into new shoes. That is not to say that the new shoes fit on arrival.”

In the years when The X-Files was off-screen, Carter would regularly read newspapers and spot stories that he felt were perfect material for the series. In the intervening years, he has developed various other dramas.

There was a show called Millennium, which was attacked by Scientologists who felt it was lampooning them, and last year a pilot for Amazon Studios called The After. To his disappointment, no series of The After was commissioned, in spite of the enthusiasm with which the pilot was greeted. The last outing  for Mulder and Scully was the feature film,  The X-Files: I Want To Believe (2008), which Carter directed. The critical response was muted and box-office receipts were disappointing, but Carter believes the new series can now once again capture the imaginations of a big, mainstream audience. If the new series is successful, there are likely to be further episodes.

The X-Files is celebrated as one of the first drama series of the internet age. Carter himself hasn’t embraced social media. “I do have an Instagram account, but that is for promotional reasons. I don’t communicate with anybody via social media otherwise,” he says. “It seems that people don’t value their privacy now, and I do value my privacy. I don’t know that anything I have to say [on social media] is all that interesting. I see its great value, but not for me personally.”

Carter is a tallish, good-looking, silver-haired Californian who used to edit a surfing magazine, but that doesn’t mean he is in the slightest bit relaxed. “I never thought of it as laid-back,” he says of the surfing subculture. “I was dealing with people who were the opposite of laid-back. These were, to use an Aussie expression, ‘aggro surfers’: people determined to change the surfing world.”

When he worked for Surfing Magazine, the production schedule was almost an intense as the one he encountered later in television production. “It was where I learned about doing something serially,” he recalls.  No, Carter wasn’t an especially accomplished surfer himself but he has chased “some of  the best surf in the world”, and still speaks in awe of a wave he rode at Sunset Beach  in Hawaii. “I couldn’t believe that my feet  had touched the beach again. It felt death-defying at the time.”

At the time that Carter devised The X-Files, he stumbled across startling research from a Harvard scientist called John E Mack that revealed three per cent of the US population actually believed in alien abduction.

One guesses the figure would be far higher today, partly because of the series. Mack allowed him to sit in on “a regression hypnosis session” with an alien abductee, an experience he describes as powerful and disturbing.

Does he believe in aliens himself? More than 20 years on from the creation of The X-Files, Carter gives a typically balanced and equivocal answer, one that combines the scepticism of Gillian Anderson’s Scully with the fervent credulity of Duchovny’s Mulder.

“That ‘I Want To Believe’ poster states it so perfectly for me,” the X-Files guru muses. “I am looking for a paranormal experience. I am looking for a miracle, I am waiting for the supernatural. I am waiting to be confronted with something I can’t explain.”

The Herkimer Black Triangle UFO

Who knew that a simple winter’s night snowmobile ride would result in the sighting of a black triangle UFO?

Triangular-shaped UFOs have been in the media over the past 20 years or so. Numerous television shows have reported cases from different parts of the U.S. and western Europe. These craft are usually about the size of a football field, being about two stories thick. They typically are reported as having three major glowing orbs on the underside. They are usually a non-reflective black in color, but they’ve also been reported as glowing in orange or yellow. The strangest element is that most reports say that they are unnervingly silent.

The CNY region is not without its reports of these triangle-shaped crafts. Among the earliest known upstate reports of a black triangle UFO was in January of 1979 in Herkimer, NY.  One winter’s night, a snowmobiler who lived in the country was going to visit a friend five miles away. He stated that suddenly it became quiet. He couldn’t hear his sled’s engine and the snowmobile’s light went out. He looked up and could make out the outline of a huge black triangle blocking out the stars. It had no lights and was silent. He said it took about two minutes for it to pass over head. It was perhaps 100 feet off the ground and when it passed under the high tension wires, arcs began jumping from the power lines to the top of the craft. He watched it move away over a hill and then out of sight. When he got home, nobody believed him.

There was also a sighting a few years later in October of 1982 in Owasco, NY near Owasco Lake. In October 2010, a black triangle UFO was reported in Skaneateles that was observed by a number of people at a football game. In December 2011, near Sylvan Beach, NY, a family observed two of these crafts. Not to be left out, residents in the city of Syracuse observed several of these triangular crafts. One was seen over Hiawatha Lake moving northwest in June of 2012 in the early hours of the day. Notably, two years ago a small cluster of sightings of black triangle UFOs  happened in May 2013 in the regional New York City area.

The most recent report was logged in Earlville, NY on July 15, 2013. A young woman was called outside by her excited boyfriend. She reported that he pointed up in the sky and some distance from them was a huge orange triangle. They watched it for a few minutes as it slowly moved away and disappeared.

A curious aspect regarding these black triangles is the frequency of their sightings. When I examined the sighting data for the 20 years between 1979 through 2000, there were a total of 34 sighting reports for the entire state of New York. Yet from 2001 to 2015, the number of Black Triangle sightings has more than tripled.

Rendlesham Forest Incident – The Colonel Returns

The Rendlesham Forest Incident must be one of the most talked about, divisive subjects in the world of Ufology in the last 35 years.

When Charles Halt (Colonel USAF Retired) returned in July 2015 to talk about the incident  for the first time in Suffolk in 35 years, the Rendlesham Forest Incident community flocked to hear him speak.

The news of Colonel Halt’s return was a big deal. It doesn’t get much bigger than when a key military figure in a world renowned UFO incident returns to the place where it all happened. Colonel Halt was Deputy Base Commander at RAF Woodbridge in 1980 when ‘something’ happened in the woods adjacent to the USAF Airbase where he worked. RAF Woodbridge and its neighbouring twin base RAF Bentwaters were key US military installations during the long and hard-fought Cold War with Russia.

The Rendlesham Forest Incident is as big today as it was 35 years ago. In fact, some would say it is even bigger. The passage of time has allowed for more and more people to get on board the RFI train and for stories to grow ever more elaborate. The legion of RFI fans, Truth Seekers and ‘experts’ they look to for information has grown. Many of the newer fans are too young to remember the incident and some were not even born.

Much of the information that has been circulating for years relies on hearsay accounts from civilians  who were not actually there. Perhaps some have a vested interest in keeping certain versions alive. When it was announced that Colonel Halt was coming back to speak, the UFO/paranormal/RFI community waited in eager anticipation of the revelations he would bring with him.

At this stage I should say I am not a part of the Rendlesham Forest Incident research community. I am a writer who has several friends within the RFI community. I do not have an RFI book to sell. As a few of the RFI key players  live close by, I have been fortunate enough in the last year, to meet up with some of them and listen to their stories. The group I have started getting to know is made up of a few gentle souls who are at the heart of a community which spans the globe, thanks to the internet.

Brenda Butler – original local civilian Rendlesham Forest Incident investigator

Brenda Butler, along with Dot Street, is one of the original civilian Rendlesham Forest Incident researchers/investigators in Suffolk. She lives very close to the RFI site and has co-authored several books on the subject. Brenda is well-known as a speaker on the Rendlesham Forest Incident – she is recognised by many as being the voice of the British witnesses. She lives about 30 minutes away from me and along with her partner Bernie, she regularly visits mutual friend, Derek Savory. The three of them, along with a few other RFI fans occasionally work as unpaid volunteers to help facilitate local RFI events put on by a UK publisher.  Brenda and her group of friends help make these events happen for the publisher, who is not local and may find it hard to stage events without local assistance.

Brenda and her friends are a very quiet group of people who enjoy the social side of being interested in UFOs and the paranormal. Rendlesham Forest Incident fans from all over the country often come to visit Brenda, Bernie, Derek and other local friends. They all enjoy exploring the forest and sharing ideas about what may have happened. The RFI is so much more to them than a vehicle for selling books; it has almost become a way of life that provides a community atmosphere.

It is a way of life that connects them to others who share their interests. Some of the things they discuss when they get together  would make some people’s hair stand on end. But the warmth and simplicity of their friendships is endearing in a world where many people are too busy to share simple evenings like this. Folklore and fantasy play a huge part in their interests and evenings with them are very entertaining. Through their contacts in the wider UFO research world, I have recently met two of the biggest names in the ongoing saga of the Rendlesham Forest Incident.

Meeting Rendlesham Forest Incident Participant – Larry Warren 

In May this year, I met up with Larry Warren who is known and loved worldwide for speaking out about his RFI experience. I spent a few hours with him and recorded interviews. From that experience, I found Larry to be a hugely entertaining, warm, complex and interesting person. At the time of the RFI, he was a 19 year old Security Police Officer in the USAF based at Bentwaters, home of the 81st Tactical Fighter Wing during the Cold War. As someone who was there in 1980, Larry has a story to tell. His story cannot and should not, be taken away from him. For better or worse, it has had a profound effect on his life.  And make no mistake, whatever anyone thinks of Larry Warren, he has a legion of fans across the world who will stick by him no matter what.

Many people it seems are fiercely protective of Larry. Their loyalty should not be underestimated; this is a man who is loved by many. He is quick to point out he is probably disliked by just as many too – but that is Larry. In life, it is the easiest thing in the world to have an ill-informed opinion on absolutely anything. Talk after all, is cheap. However, having an informed opinion is a little harder because it requires work and research or better still – first-hand experience of the subject.

How many of the non-local people who claim to be authorities on the RFI or have strong opinions one way or the other were living in Suffolk at the time and have any genuine first-hand knowledge of it? I mean knowledge that has not come via someone else or from a book. Only a very few civilian RFI researchers come directly from the area and actually remember the events of December 1980. On the military side, Larry Warren was living and working smack bang in the middle of it all at the time and therefore has first-hand knowledge that other people coming into the saga years later do not have. Like it or not, he is an A list participant in certain aspects of the RFI.

Regardless of whether you believe him or whether you don’t, Larry Warren has something most other people do not have – that is, actual knowledge and experience of the RFI at the time it happened. In whatever capacity and on whatever day, Larry Warren was there. We should not forget that. Even if he stood up tomorrow and said he lied about any aspect of it – I suspect people would not care because it is Larry the man who people are drawn to, not Larry the RFI participant. There is a huge difference – many people like him for who he is and it goes far beyond the RFI. I do not pretend to know Larry beyond my first impressions on meeting him. However, I do know how much he is loved worldwide by many in the UFO community. So it may have been a bad idea for anyone to allow a character assassination of him to take place in public.

Meeting Rendlesham Forest Incident Personality –  Charles Halt (Colonel USAF Retired)

On July 10th, I met up with Larry’s old ‘boss’ from 1980, Charles Halt (Colonel USAF Retired). An interview was arranged for me by the conference promoter through Brenda Butler, the day before Colonel Halt’s long awaited return to the RFI arena. He was here to take the stage and speak publicly about it in Suffolk for the first time in 35 years.

Colonel Halt was Deputy Base Commander at RAF Woodbridge at the time of the RFI; he then went on to become the Base Commander at a later date. We met at his hotel where I spent an hour recording our interview. Colonel Halt came across as a highly intelligent, witty, charismatic military man who seems deeply tired of the history he is inextricably linked to. That was the impression I was left with. After 35 years of the same questions from a never-ending stream of people with a ‘right’ to know ‘The Truth’, Colonel Halt, I believe, is bored out of his military brain with the whole saga.

He is, it appears, stuck in a no-win situation. Thirty-five  years after the event, he is still expected to explain himself to new generations of ‘truth-seekers’. Throughout the interview, as he talked at length about what happened that night, the same phrase kept popping into my head – ‘loose lips sink ships’. There was a war on at the time. The twin bases of Bentwaters and Woodbridge were not holiday camps.

They were military installations engaged in a deadly Cold War with Russia. Detailed knowledge of the enemy’s capabilities and hardware were of paramount importance to international security. We only have to think of the Cuban Missile Crisis to remind ourselves exactly how serious the Cold War was. Highly top-secret ‘stuff’ went on. ‘Stuff’ no-one dare even breathe about at the time because, if Joe Public knew the state secrets regarding how vital intelligence was being collected, then so would the Russians. Loose lips really do sink ships or in this case, could have annihilated us all. I believe that Colonel Halt had an extremely challenging job to do in December 1980 when he was called out of a Christmas party on base. It is my belief that he may have come out to find his worst nightmare unfolding on the wrong side of the perimeter fence.

Perhaps the various levels of security clearance that are vital in wartime made Colonel Halt’s life extremely complicated that night and the nights that followed. Covert recovery of whatever came down in the woods on the wrong side of the military fence cannot have been easy to handle. Did a large proportion of the military workforce need to remain unaware of what they were dealing with for international security reasons? Was a cover story necessary to preserve secrets about how highly sensitive intelligence was being obtained? These are questions I ask myself after feeling that something is not quite right with the official story. Of course, it is just my opinion. But it is an opinion based on reading between the ‘official’ lines spoken by Colonel Halt during our interview and then again, when they were repeated almost word for word the following evening during his presentation to the public. The ‘official’ story was run off both times as if by rote. All the anecdotes, diversions and asides in the same places throughout.

There is an ordinary, friendly family man behind the robotic military figure who trots out the military line when asked about the RFI. When he finally took the stage on the night of the long awaited ‘Colonel Halt Briefing’, many people seemed deeply disappointed in the content of his talk. Although it isn’t clear what people were expecting him to say, it was very clear that most people were not expecting the attack on Larry Warren. Or for that matter on his book Left At East Gate (co-written with author Peter Robbins).

The Colonel speaks out

The way Colonel Halt delivered his diatribe against Larry Warren came across to me as a final snapping of patience. It was almost as if the Colonel could no longer stand the continued insubordination of a young airman to his superior ranks. However, this is 2015 and neither are in the military anymore.This just seemed like a parent losing his temper with a naughty child during a tantrum. But this was in the public arena after a ‘tantrum’ lasting 35 years. The curious thing was, Colonel Halt seemed not to be in the least bothered about potential repercussions. He was very confident about what he was saying. He knew he was being recorded. There was no provision made for rebuttal from Larry but no-one seemed to care.

The Rendlesham Forest Incident Has Damaged Lives

No one fought back on Larry’s behalf. Most people seemed stunned. The big question is, how does Larry feel now? The rumour is that he was asked to stay away from the event. Larry has since confirmed this and stated he was ‘categorically banned’ from attending by the organisers. However, he has seen the controversial  film of the event made by Ben Emlyn-Jones. Ben’s film has now been removed from YouTube amid accusations of copyright infringement.

Has UK Copyright law been misused?

Larry is naturally very angry about the claims made by Colonel Halt and is considering legal action. He is also understandably upset that none of the many friends he had there stood up for him. Has Larry Warren suffered enough from a horrific experience he had 35 years ago? Did he really deserve further pain from it?

Larry’s crime, at the time of the incident, may have been to keep on asking questions that the top military brass did not want asked at the time of the RFI and could not, safely, answer. GIs are expected to carry out orders without asking awkward questions. That is the nature of being in the military. Loose lips do need to be silenced in wartime, even a Cold War and I am sure the military has ways of securing silence and creating deliberate confusion inside GI minds when needed. But what happens when you are just 19 years old and you get caught up in the middle of something that seems so terrifying you need to talk about it and get answers? What happens when ‘they’ mess with your head because ‘they’ don’t know how much you saw and who you might tell? What happens when espionage goes wrong and a bewildered young serviceman has no choice but to end his career and spend the next 35 years trying to make sense of what happened?

These are the questions that run through my mind when I consider some of the more scientific explanations for the Rendlesham Forest Incident. Whatever ‘The Truth’ is, there are no winners here. And how guilty are we, the public, for continuing to scratch at other people’s old wounds? How much more can Colonel Halt or Larry Warren say? Maybe it is time to leave them both alone with their very different accounts of December 1980 and accept that we just don’t know what happened and probably never will.

These are real people whose lives were deeply affected by whatever happened in the woods. I suspect that Larry’s hell has been vastly different to Colonel Halt’s as they were at opposite ends of the military command chain with vastly different security clearances. But still, it appears they have both suffered in their own ways for 35 years – as have many of the other key players in the RFI. How much more can any of them say?

The Rendlesham Forest Incident Controversy Says So Much About Human Beings

Since the ‘Colonel Halt Briefing’ event on July 11th a new ‘cold war’ has allegedly broken out with mature adults slinging mud and various accusations being made. Excuses are being made by people who did not stand up and challenge the Colonel. But the simple truth is, we are British and sadly we just don’t do that. We are too ‘polite’. I am told that ‘unfriendings’ have happened on Facebook and rifts have developed between various factions involved in the whole event. Apparently, this is the norm after a UFO event. I would find it all vaguely amusing if it were not so tragic that supposedly educated people can behave  this way.

At the end of all this, I am left wondering why we have such an interest in looking outward from our planet to see if there is any intelligent life ‘out there’. As human beings, we don’t appear to have that much intelligent life on earth. We bicker, fight, jostle for limelight, lie, cheat, kill and make life generally unpleasant for each other in the most ridiculous situations, usually in the name of making money or scoring points. It is shameful. If there is any intelligent life out there they may well have visited us already. Some people claim they live among us. If they had any sense, they would get back in their spaceships and go as far away as possible from us. We are not ready to receive visitors from Outer Space. We can’t even get along with ‘aliens’ from other countries – never mind from other planets!

Rendlesham Forest 2015 – Normal stuff happens here too

Who are we to judge what ‘intelligent life’ is? As a species we are about as stupid as it gets because we are wrecking the beautiful planet we live on and killing each other in the process.

As for the interview I did with Colonel Halt, I will probably never publish it because I don’t want to scratch away at Larry Warren’s old scars. And as for my own film of the event, I will leave it up to Larry whether or not anyone sees it because he, after all, is the one who stands to hurt the most from what was said.

From my brief encounters with both, I liked Larry and I liked Colonel Halt. In my opinion, they experienced the same event from different angles and from different ranks. They will never agree. Maybe we should leave them both alone. The Cold War is long gone – let’s not keep this new one going.

A Movie That Influenced The M.I.B.?

There can be no doubt at all that had it not been for a 1950s UFO investigator named Albert Bender, there would not have been the phenomenon of the Men in Black. Or, at least, the phenomenon would not have achieved the iconic status it has today. Bender was a curious character who lived in the attic of a large, old house in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was fascinated by the worlds of the paranormal, the supernatural, and the occult – both in reality and in the domain of fiction, too. In terms of the latter, we’re talking about horror films, sci-fi movies, and stories by the likes of Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe, and H.P. Lovecraft.

While some UFO researchers who have studied Bender’s claimed encounters with the MIB have suggested he told the story exactly as it happened, others are not so sure. Gray Barker’s 1956 book, They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers, told much of the Bender-MIB story. Barker, initially, believed that Bender was speaking the truth. He even went on to publish Bender’s own book on the subject, Flying Saucers and the Three Men, which was published in 1962. Ultimately, however, Barker came to suspect that many of Bender’s experiences were born out of his very own subconscious and his fascination for horror, Gothic mysteries, and sci-fi, rather than out of reality.

This leads me onto the subject of this particular article: how those passions for horror-flicks and sci-fi films may have impacted on Bender and his MIB-themed experiences – or “trances,” as Barker once knowingly suggested.

One movie, in particular, that may have influenced Albert Bender’s subconscious, when it came to the development of the MIB motif, is the very appropriately titled 1949 movie, The Man in Black. A British production, it was the creation of Hammer Films, who went on to produce some of the most loved horror movies of the 1950s and 1960s, and which starred the likes of Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, and Barbara Shelley.

The plot-line is not unlike that of the classic 1944 movie, Gaslight, which starred Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman. That’s to say, The Man in Black focuses on attempts to drive the leading-lady insane, for financial gain. In the case of The Man in Black, the woman who is unfortunately targeted is Joan Clavering, played by actress Hazel Penwarden.

After her father, Henry Clavering, dies (or, as we later learn, actually doesn’t die), Joan is destined to inherit all of Henry’s wealth. That’s when Henry’s second wife, Bertha Clavering, along with her daughter Janice, quickly steps in to try and get Joan institutionalized, as a means to grab the family fortune.

The Man in Black was based upon a BBC radio series, Appointment with Fear, which ran from 1943 to 1955. In both the movie and the radio show, the Man in Black is the narrator of the tale and is played by actor Valentine Dyall. There are a couple of things that lead me to believe that Albert Bender may very well have seen The Man in Black.

Of course, this would require The Man in Black to have been shown in cinemas in Connecticut, where Bender lived at the time. Admittedly, I have not been able to prove that. But, there are some interesting parallels between Bender’s MIB-themed stories and the movie. The first thing, unsurprisingly, is the title: The Man in Black. The second issue revolves around the poster that was created to promote the movie. It shows a silhouette of a sinister-looking character wearing a wide-brimmed, black hat and a long, black cloak.

It should be noted that this imagery is identical to a piece of artwork that Bender himself created and which hung on the wall of his attic-based abode in the early 1950s. The setting of Bender’s painting is an old cemetery, filled with gravestones, a solitary crypt, trees, and a large moon. As for the MIB that appears in the painting, his hat is exactly the same as that in the poster, as is the cloak. And, it’s important to note that we don’t often hear of the MIB wearing cloaks. Yet, Bender’s artistic rendition of a MIB was cloaked – just like the one in The Man in Black.

It’s also important to note that the painting of a Man in Black that appears in the old, B&W photo of Bender which accompanies this article is intended purely for illustration. It’s obviously a different one to the cemetery-based painting referred to directly above.

Recall too that The Man in Black was made in 1949. And, it was released in the UK in January 1950. This time-frame was just before Bender’s MIB began to surface.

There’s another thing, too. At one point in the movie, Joan Clavering goes to the cinema and has a spooky experience while walking home, late at night. She hears strange footsteps, seemingly following her through shadowy woods. As we have seen, Bender was a big fan of the world of cinema, and he regularly visited his local theater to watch all the latest sci-fi and horror-movies. Not unlike Joan in the movie, Bender wrote in his Flying Saucers and the Three Men book of being followed by sinister characters after leaving the{ theater, and as he walked home, late on Saturday nights.

Personally, I don’t think that Albert Bender created his MIB tales as a ruse. Nor do I think he was lying. I think he truly believed the encounters occurred as he recalled them. However, I don’t think we can rule out the possibility that those tales were, in part at least, influenced by what Bender saw on the big-screen. Perhaps if, as I believe, Bender’s MIB were truly supernatural entities (rather than being from “the government” or of ET-based origins), those same entities lifted that MIB imagery from Bender’s very own subconscious and then manifested before him in the guise of his absolute worst nightmare. Namely, the image of the cinematic Man in Black.

   Il a fallu des scientifiques de Leicester pour parvenir à cette idée brillante. Le message a été diffusé sur une fréquence de 500MHz à l'aide d'un radar à haute fréquence vers la constellation de la Grande Ourse à 42 années-lumière de la terre. Il a fallu une puissance de deux mille millions de Watts pour envoyer ce magnifique film où l'on voit des chips danser puis se faire dévorer par un homme. Voilà, admettons qu'ils réussissent à comprendre ces ondes, que vont-ils penser, à part peut-être que ce film est un SOS de la part des chips qui en ont marre de se faire dégommer par les humains. Si les aliens débarquent dans quelques millénaires pour nous détruire la gueule afin de libérer les chips, faudra pas qu'on s'étonne

   Cette plaque, censée expliquer aux extra-terrestres qui nous sommes, a été attachée aux deux sondes qu'on a envoyées dans l'espace en 1972 et 1973. Si certains d'entre vous ont vu le formidable spectacle du non moins formidable Alexandre Astier, ils savent de quoi on parle. Pour les autres, essayez de vous imaginer que vous n'avez aucune idée de ce que peut bien être un humain et tregardez cette plaque à nouveau. Même en tant qu'humain, on n’est pas sûr de saisir : "Alors l'homme on a le droit de montrer son pipou mais la zezette de la dame passe à la trappe ?" "C'est une planche de surf derrière lui ?".    Oui, une équipe de chercheurs a collecté plus de 1500 tweets avec le hastag #tweetsinspace, pour les balancer dans l'espace. La plupart d'entre eux étaient en anglais, parce qu'évidemment tout le monde sait que les Aliens font tous anglais lV1 et zbazerg en LV2 (c'est chaud le zbazerg y a plein de déclinaisons) et beaucoup de ceux-ci demandaient aux extra-terrestres de bien vouloir nous épargner, parce que c'est aussi connu ils en ont quelque chose à foutre de nous et ils veulent nous dégommer.

5. Un énorme théorème de Pythagore
   Alors là, techniquement on ne l'a pas envoyé, mais on a fait en sorte que nos amis à un œil puissent le voir de chez eux. Replaçons nous dans le contexte, on est en 1820 et à l'époque on sait déjà qu'il y a des planètes autres que la terre, mais on n'a pas la technologie pour aller dans l'espace, donc on ne fait qu'imaginer. Alors, le mathématicien Gauss a une idée "géniale", dessiner ce qui se fait de mieux technologiquement à cette époque : le théorème de Pythagore (c'était ça ou une guillotine). Il monte donc un projet visant à virer des bouts de forêt pour dessiner un énorme triangle, et de mettre des champs de blé à côté pour faire les carrés. Afin qu'évidemment les extra-terrestres passent au-dessus un jour et fassent "oh putain, zblurb vient voir, regarde moi ça, ces cons d'humains savent calculer la longueur de l'hypoténuse, ça doit pas être des veaux les  bougres, viens on leur emmène des gâteaux".

6. Le message d'Arecibo
   En 1973, on ne savait pas quoi foutre alors on a décidé d'envoyer un message radio vers l'espace, plus précisément vers l'amas globulaire M13 qui se trouve à 25 000 années-lumière. Alors comme ça évidemment vous ne voyez pas l'intérêt, et pourtant on leur a mis des informations essentielles : les chiffres de 1 à 10, les formules chimiques des sucres et bases dans les nucléotides de l'ADN, et tout en bas ce qui semble être le M de Mc Do, mais ça on n'est pas sûr. D'après les projections des scientifiques, ils vont le recevoir dans 25 000 ans. Déjà que 30 ans après, ça a l'air bien ringard leur truc, on se demande bien la tronche qu'ils vont faire.

7. Un concert de thérémine
   Le thérémine c'est l'instrument bizarre qui fait des sons de l'espace que vous avez entendu dans toutes les B.O des vieux films de science-fiction. C'est ce qu'un groupe de jeunes Russes triés sur le volet pour sélectionner ce qu'on devait communiquer aux extra-terrestres ont considéré comme ce qu'il y avait de mieux à envoyer à nos amis d'ailleurs. Ça s'est passé en 2001, et on a appelé ça le Teen Age Message. Tous les jours ils se regroupaient pour envoyer des messages d'ados, des images (en 2001, donc y avait sûrement du Britney Spears et du Eminem) et des concerts de cet instrument donc. Sachant que c'était des russes ils auraient quand même pu envoyer ce qu'ils font de mieux : des mannequins et des vidéos de vieux en slips qui dégomment des ours à la kalachnikov.

8. Un tas d'objets à la con
   Qui ont été balancés dans l'espace pour une raison ou une autre depuis qu'on a le pouvoir de le faire. Pas sûr que nos amis extra-terrestres tombent dessus, mais ça arrivera peut-être un jour et dans ce cas ils verront débarquer dans leur galaxie : De la pizza, un sabre laser, des legos et des magazines playboy. Les extra-terrestres vont donc penser qu'on est tous des gros gros nerds.

UFO 1979: The Herkimer Black Triangle UFO

Who knew that a simple winter’s night snowmobile ride would result in the sighting of a black triangle UFO?

Triangular-shaped UFOs have been in the media over the past 20 years or so. Numerous television shows have reported cases from different parts of the U.S. and western Europe. These craft are usually about the size of a football field, being about two stories thick. They typically are reported as having three major glowing orbs on the underside. They are usually a non-reflective black in color, but they’ve also been reported as glowing in orange or yellow. The strangest element is that most reports say that they are unnervingly silent.

The CNY region is not without its reports of these triangle-shaped crafts. Among the earliest known upstate reports of a black triangle UFO was in January of 1979 in Herkimer, NY.  One winter’s night, a snowmobiler who lived in the country was going to visit a friend five miles away. He stated that suddenly it became quiet. He couldn’t hear his sled’s engine and the snowmobile’s light went out. He looked up and could make out the outline of a huge black triangle blocking out the stars. It had no lights and was silent. He said it took about two minutes for it to pass over head. It was perhaps 100 feet off the ground and when it passed under the high tension wires, arcs began jumping from the power lines to the top of the craft. He watched it move away over a hill and then out of sight. When he got home, nobody believed him.

There was also a sighting a few years later in October of 1982 in Owasco, NY near Owasco Lake. In October 2010, a black triangle UFO was reported in Skaneateles that was observed by a number of people at a football game. In December 2011, near Sylvan Beach, NY, a family observed two of these crafts. Not to be left out, residents in the city of Syracuse observed several of these triangular crafts. One was seen over Hiawatha Lake moving northwest in June of 2012 in the early hours of the day. Notably, two years ago a small cluster of sightings of black triangle UFOs  happened in May 2013 in the regional New York City area.

The most recent report was logged in Earlville, NY on July 15, 2013. A young woman was called outside by her excited boyfriend. She reported that he pointed up in the sky and some distance from them was a huge orange triangle. They watched it for a few minutes as it slowly moved away and disappeared.

A curious aspect regarding these black triangles is the frequency of their sightings. When I examined the sighting data for the 20 years between 1979 through 2000, there were a total of 34 sighting reports for the entire state of New York. Yet from 2001 to 2015, the number of Black Triangle sightings has more than tripled.

Monstrous Controversy Rages Over Loch Ness UFO Photos

Has the mystery finally been solved? What's a sea monster to do?

A family vacationing in the Scottish Highlands overlooking Loch Ness, the famous home of an alleged prehistoric animal (or animals), recently produced a photograph that showed something unusual-looking above the water (see above image).

In our first story about this, we introduced Alan and Anna Betts, who didn't know they had the image until they returned to their UK home and were looking through their vacation pictures. One shot, taken by Anna's mother, revealed that pair of disc-shaped objects.

The Betts maintained the picture was taken outdoors and there were no lights on in the house at the time.

Enter Mick West, creator of the Metabunk.org site, who offered an analysis of the Betts' photo, claiming that the UFO image had been taken from indoors, and the resulting picture was nothing more than a dual reflection of a room lamp and also a reflective window curtain.

Then, in our previous story update, we suggested the only way to truly solve the mystery of how and where the original photo was taken would be for someone to go back to that Loch Ness holiday cottage and take new pictures to try and recreate the UFO event.

West contacted the owner of the Bunloit Farmhouse -- the cottage at the center of the controversy -- and asked her to take some up to date pictures from indoors, looking out at Loch Ness. The following image is one of those new shots.

"I asked her to take a picture from the same position pointing in the same direction," West told The Huffington Post. "In the original photo, you can see the direction they're looking in, toward the loch. And I asked her to try to get some reflection of the light and to take a video, if possible, so you could see the relative position of things."

West acknowledges that the cottage owner (who wishes to remain anonymous) actually moved the lamp closer to the window, which makes it appear larger than the original "UFO" image that started this all.

"It isn't a 100 percent recreation, but you can tell by the comparison that obviously, that's what the original was -- the same shape and color and everything. It's just bigger in the recreation," West said.

In the image below, at left is a close-up of the original photo taken by the Betts family. At right is one of the more recent pictures, which seems to show a reflected lamp.

So, who's right and who's wrong? The Betts say the picture was taken outdoors, and West claims the photos prove otherwise.
