Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

George Adamski: How the FBI Kept a Close Watch on the Legendary “Contactee”
Born in Poland in 1891, George Adamski had the distinction of being the most supported, celebrated and ridiculed of those who claimed direct contact with human-like extraterrestrials. The controversy largely began on 20 November 1952, when, along with six other people, Adamski claimed that he witnessed the landing of a UFO in the Californian desert and then made contact with its pilot. FBI documentation, however, showed that Adamski’s interest in UFOs preceded the 1952 date by at least two years; and the author Timothy Good stated that Adamski claimed to have had other-worldly contact as a child, and to have later received instruction from them in Tibet, hence his 1936 book, Wisdom of the Masters of the Far East, published by The Royal Order of Tibet.
At the beginning of its surveillance of George Adamski, the FBI did not apparently have any awareness of his earlier claims of contact; however a document dated 28 May 1952 references his 1950 encounters, and also reveals that – as with George Van Tassel – the FBI considered Adamski to be a subversive. A study of the documentation shows that much of the FBI’s initial data on Adamski came from a source (whose name the FBI has chosen to keep classified) that revealed the facts to its San Diego office on 5 September 1950: “[Source] advised the San Diego Office that he first met Adamski about three months ago at the café which is named the Palomar Gardens Café, owned and operated by Adamski, at the road junction, five miles East of Rincon, California, at a point where the highway branches off leading to Mount Palomar Observatory.

“[Source] became involved in a lengthy conversation with Adamski during which Adamski told them at great length of his findings of flying saucers and so forth. He told them of a spaceship which he said he saw between the earth and the moon, which he estimated to be approximately three miles in length, which was flying so fast that he had to take about eighty photographs before he could get three of them to turn out. According to [source] Adamski stated that the Federal Communications Commission, under the direction of the ‘Military Government’ of the United States, has established communication with the people from other worlds, and has learned that they are so much more advanced than the inhabitants of this earth that they have deciphered the languages used here. Adamski stated that in this interplanetary communication, the Federal Communications Commission asked the inhabitants of the other planet concerning the type of government they had there and the reply indicated that it was very different from the democracy of the United States. Adamski stated that his answer was kept secret by the United States Government, but he added, ‘If you ask me they probably have a Communist form of government and our American government wouldn’t release that kind of thing, naturally. That is a thing of the future – more advanced.'”
Adamski’s comments that his alien friends were communists caused – at the very least – raised eyebrows within the FBI, and led to continued monitoring of his activities: “Adamski, during this conversation, made the prediction that Russia will dominate the world and we will then have an era of peace for 1,000 years. He stated that Russia already has the atom bomb and the hydrogen bomb and that the great earthquake, which was reported behind the Iron Curtain recently, was actually a hydrogen bomb explosion being tried out by the Russians. Adamski states this ‘earthquake’ broke seismograph machines and he added that no normal earthquake can do that.
“Adamski stated that within the next twelve months, San Diego will be bombed. Adamski stated that it does not make any difference if the United States has more atom bombs than Russia inasmuch as Russia needs only ten atom bombs to cripple the United States by placing these simultaneously on such spots as Chicago and other vital centers of this country. The United States today is in the same state of deterioration as was the Roman Empire prior to its collapse and it will fall just as the Roman empire did. The Government in this country is a corrupt form of government and capitalists are enslaving the poor.”
From thereon, Adamski was officially considered by the FBI to be a “security matter.” In January 1953, he was again the subject of FBI interest when the San Diego office began to hear rumors to the effect that: “Adamski had in his possession a machine which could draw ‘flying saucers’ and airplanes down from the sky.” Despite his the-aliens-are-Communists-style statements of 1952, Adamski was concerned that the device that supposedly operated on the principle of “cutting magnetic lines of force,” could be used against American aircraft; and it was Adamski himself initiated who initiated a meeting with both the FBI and the Air Force of Special Investigations, and that occurred on 12 January 1953.
From the beginning of the meeting, Adamski was careful to make it clear that the machine was the creation of another person, and that regardless of what the FBI thought it knew or had been told to the contrary, Adamski had not yet seen the device – he had only been told of its existence. He did, however, apparently know enough about both it and its creator to suggest that production of the device might not be in the best interests of the Government, since the person concerned “was not entirely loyal.” On this matter, at least, Adamski cooperated fully, and provided both the Bureau and the Air Force with sufficient information to allow a formal investigation of the machine’s “inventor” to begin.
In that same meeting, Adamski could not let the opportunity pass by to discuss with both the FBI and the Air Force his claimed encounter of 20 November 1952 out in the deserts of California, as the FBI carefully noted in its write-up of the interview: “At a point ten and two-tenths miles from Desert Center on the road to Parker and Needles, Arizona, [Adamski] made contact with a space craft and had talked to a space man. Adamski stated that he, [deleted] and his wife Mary had been out in the desert and that he and the persons with him had seen the craft come down to the earth. Adamski stated that a small stairway in the bottom of the craft, which appeared to be a round disc, opened and a space man came down the steps. Adamski stated he believed there were other space men in the ship because the ship appeared translucent and could see the shadows of the space men.”
Adamski also revealed that the alien was “over five feet in height, having long hair like a woman’s and garbed in a suit similar to the space suits or web suits worn by the US Air Force men.” And in a similar fashion to George Van Tassel, Adamski related to the FBI and OSI agents that he conversed with the being by means of sign language, but felt that his mid was being “read.” As evidence of this, Adamski said that as he was about to take a photograph of the aliens’ craft, the humanoid “motioned” him to stop. Adamski told the agents that he took his photograph regardless, but that this was not to the liking of the cosmic visitor, who grabbed the material evidence out of Adamski’s hands and soared off into the sky!
Adamski’s adventures with the aliens were not over, however. Once again, according to the FBI: “Adamski further advised that he had obtained plaster casts of the footprints of the space man and stated that the casts indicated the footprints had designs on them similar to the signs of the Zodiac. On January 12, 1953, Adamski advised that on December 13, 1952, the space ship returned to the Palomar Gardens and came low enough to drop the [film negative] which the space man had taken from him, Adamski, and had then gone off over the hill. Adamski stated that when he had the negatives developed at a photo shop in Escondido, California, that the negative that the space man had taken from him contained writing which he believed to be the writing of the space men. Adamski furnished the writer with copies of the space writing and photographs of the space ship.”
However, from another source, the FBI was told that: “The photographs were taken by setting the camera lens at infinity, which would sharpen the background of mountains and trees and blurs the saucer, which was probably strung on a thin wire. [Source] advised that if the camera were set at infinity the wire would not show.” Indeed, what all of this tells us is that until his death in 1965, Adamski was a controversial character – whether within the field of Ufology, or with the special-agents of J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI.

When we look out at our planet Earth from space, we see a myriad of diverse colors. The sky itself is blue, as the atmosphere preferentially scatters shorter-wavelength blue light in all directions, giving our atmosphere it’s characteristic color. The oceans themselves are blue, as water molecules are better at absorbing longer-wavelength red light than they are blue light. Meanwhile, the continents appear brown or green, dependent on the vegetation (or lack thereof) growing there, while the icecaps and clouds always appear white.
But on Mars, one color dominates: red. The ground is red: red everywhere. The lowlands are red; the highlands are red; the dried-up riverbeds are red; the sand dunes are red; it’s all red. The atmosphere itself is also red in every location we can measure it. The lone exception appears to be the icecaps and clouds, which are white, albeit with a reddish hue as observed from Earth. Yet quite surprisingly, the “redness” of Mars is incredibly shallow; if you dug just the tiniest bit beneath the surface, the redness vanishes. From space, there’s no denying the red appearance of Mars. For all of recorded history in a wide variety of languages, the redness of Mars has been its most prominent feature. Mangala, the Sanskrit word for Mars, is red. Har decher, its ancient name in Egyptian, literally means “red one.” And as we’ve progressed into the space age, photos that distinguish the surface from the atmosphere clearly show that the air above Mars itself has an intrinsically red color.
In Earth’s atmosphere, Rayleigh scattering dominates, casting blue light in all directions while the red light travels relatively undisturbed. However, the atmosphere of Mars is only 0.7% as thick as Earth’s, rendering Rayleigh scattering from the gas molecules in Mars’s atmosphere a negligible effect. Instead, dust particles in the Martian atmosphere dominate in (likely) two ways:
greater absorption at short optical wavelengths (400-600 nm) than at longer (600+ nm) wavelengths,
and that larger dust particles (~3 microns and larger) scatter longer-wavelength light more efficiently than atmospheric gas particles scatter shorter-wavelength light from Rayleigh scattering.

If you look at the suspended atmospheric dust in detail on Mars, and ask, “what is it like,” the answer is incredibly informative. Just from looking at its spectral properties — or “how it affects the light” — we can see that the dust is very similar to the regions on Mars that:
are high in reflectivity,
represent bright soil deposits,
and are rich in iron: i.e., containing large amounts of ferric oxides.
When we look at the dust in detail, particularly with the OMEGA instrument on ESA’s Mars Express mission, we find that the most common type of dust comes from nanocrystalline red hematite, which has the chemical formula α-Fe2O3. The particles that make up this hematite are small: between about 3 and 45 microns in diameter. That’s the right size and composition so that the rapid Martian winds, which typically blow at speeds close to ~100 km/hr, continuously sweep large amounts of dust up into the atmosphere, where it remains fairly well-mixed, even when there are no dust storms.

When we look at the Martian surface itself, however, the story gets far more interesting. Ever since we began examining the Martian surface in detail — first from orbiting missions and, later, landers and rovers — we noticed that surface features would change over time. In particular, we’d notice that there were darker areas and brighter areas, and that the dark areas would evolve in a particular pattern:
they’d begin dark,
they would get covered in dust that we suspect was from the brighter areas,
and then they would go back to being dark once again.
For a long time, we didn’t know why, until we started noticing that the dark areas that change all had a few things in common, particularly when compared to the dark areas that didn’t change. In particular, the dark areas that changed over time had relatively lower elevations and smaller slopes, and were surrounded by brighter areas. By contrast, the higher-elevation, steeper-sloped, and very large dark areas didn’t change in this way over time.

It was a duo of scientists — one of whom was Carl Sagan — who puzzled out the solution: Mars is covered with a layer of this thin, sandy dust that’s driven by winds all across the Martian surface. This sand gets blown from area to area, but it’s easiest for that dust to:
travel short distances,
travel either from higher to lower elevations or to comparable elevations, rather than up to much higher elevations,
and to get blown off of areas with steeper slopes, as opposed to areas with shallower slopes.
In other words, the red dust that dominates the color palette of Mars is only skin deep. That’s not even a poetic turn of phrase in this case: most of Mars is covered by a layer of dust that’s only a few millimeters thick! Even in the region where the dust is thickest — the large plateau known as the Tharsis region, consisting of three very large volcanoes just offset from Olympus Mons (which appears to the plateau’s northwest) — it’s estimated to be a meager 2 meters (~7 feet) thick.

You might look at these facts, then, and wonder the following: do we have a topographic map of Mars and a map of the ferric oxides on Mars, and do these maps correlate with one another in any way?
It’s a smart thought, and one that we’ll take a look at in just a second, but “ferric oxide” doesn’t necessarily mean “red Mars dust” the way you might think. First off, ferric oxides are present everywhere on the planet:
within the crust,
found in lava outflows,
and in the Martian dust that’s been oxidized by reactions with the atmosphere.
Given that the atmosphere, even today, contains significant quantities of both carbon dioxide and water, there’s a readily available source of oxygen to oxidize any iron-rich material that makes it to the surface: where it contacts the atmosphere.
As a result, when we look at a ferric oxide map of Mars — again, made by the fabulous OMEGA instrument aboard ESA’s Mars Express — we find that yes, the ferric oxides are everywhere, but the abundances are highest across the northern and mid-latitudes, and lowest across the southern latitudes.

On the other hand, the topography of Mars shows that the elevation of the red planet varies in an interesting way across its surface, and in a way that’s only partially correlated with the abundance of ferric oxides. The southern hemisphere, predominantly, is at a much higher elevation than the lowlands in the north. The greatest elevations occur in the ferric oxide-rich Tharsis region, but in the lowlands to the east of it, the abundances of ferric oxides plummets.
What you have to realize is that the red hematite form of ferric oxide, which is possibly the culprit for the “redness” of Mars, isn’t the only form of ferric oxide. There is also magnetite: Fe3O4, which is black in color instead of red. Although the global topography of Mars appears to play a role in the abundances of ferric oxide, it clearly isn’t the only factor at play, and might not even be the primary factor in determining Mars’s color.

What we think is occurring — and this has been a consistent picture for many years — is that there is a bright, globally distributed, globally homogeneous set of dust that gets swept up into the atmosphere and remains there. That dust is basically suspended in the thin Martian atmosphere, and although events like dust storms can increase the concentration, it never drops to a negligibly low value. Mars’s atmosphere is always rich with this dust; that dust provides the atmosphere’s color; but the color features of Mars’s surface aren’t uniform at all.
The “settling of atmospheric dust” is only one factor in determining the surface color of various regions of Mars. This is something we’ve learned very well from our landers and rovers: Mars isn’t a uniform red color at all. In fact, the surface itself is more of an orangey shade of butterscotch overall, and that various rocky objects and deposits on the surface appear to have a variety of colors: brown, golden, tan, and even greenish or yellow, depending on what minerals make up those deposits.

One question that’s still under investigation is the exact mechanism by which these red hematite particles form. Although there are many ideas that involve molecular oxygen, it’s only found in tiny, trace amounts from the photodissociation of water. Reactions involving water or high temperatures are possible, but those are thermodynamically disfavored.
My two favorite possibilities are reactions involving hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which occurs naturally on Mars in low abundances, but is a very strong oxidant. The fact that we see large amounts of α-Fe2O3 but no hydrated ferric iron minerals could be an indication of this pathway.
Alternatively, we might get hematite simply from a purely physical process: erosion. If you mix together magnetite powder, quartz sand, and quartz dust together and tumble it in a flask, some of the magnetite converts to hematite. In particular, a “black” mixture (dominated by magnetite) will appear red, as the quartz gets fractured, exposing oxygen atoms, which attach to the broken magnetite bonds, forming hematite. Perhaps the notion of “water is responsible for ferric oxides” is a literal red herring after all.

So, all in all, Mars is red because of hematite, which is a red form of ferric oxide. Although ferric oxides are found in many places, only the hematite is largely responsible for the red color, and the small dust particles that are suspended in the atmosphere and that coat the top few millimeters-to-meters of Mars’s surface are wholly responsible for the red color we see.
If we could somehow calm the atmosphere for long periods of time and let the Martian dust settle out, you might expect that Rayleigh scattering would dominate like it does on Earth, turning the skies blue. This is only partly correct, though; because the Martian atmosphere is so thin and tenuous, the sky would appear very dark: almost completely black, with a slight bluish tint to it. If you could successfully block out the brightness coming from the planet’s surface, you would likely be able to see some stars and up to six planets — Mercury, Venus, Earth, Jupiter, Saturn, and sometimes Uranus — even during the daytime.
Mars might be the red planet, but only a tiny, minuscule amount of it is actually red. Fortunately for us, that red part is the outermost layer of its surface, pervasive in the Martian atmosphere, and that accounts for the color we actually perceive.

The foreman of the shipyard late in the evening of October 11, 1973, went fishing with a workmate, 19-year-old Calvin Parker. Hickson himself was 42 years old at the time. The men were fishing from an abandoned pier on the Pascagoula River in Mississippi. And suddenly they heard a whistle, turning into a hiss, which came from above and behind. They turned around. A meter from the ground and about 15 meters away from them hung either a disk or a cylinder with two flashing lights or windows.
I don't know if it was round or oblong. I could see the little dome from above, but I couldn't see the whole thing. I didn't even know what size it was.
Charles said later:
The thing opened the hatch. Three figures emerged from it. And they went to the fishermen. And why didn't I jump into the river to get away from them?
Parker had wondered for years:
The creatures looked terrible: gray, wrinkled skin, very long arms that ended in what looked like claws, legs that looked like an elephant's. The heads grew straight out of the shoulders. That is, the necks of the creatures were missing. There were protrusions where people should have had noses, like the carrots of snowmen. Similar formations stuck out on the sides in place of the ears. They were drawn in and out.
Right under the front "carrots" were narrow slits, vaguely resembling mouths. The aliens either had no eyes at all, or they were lost in the folds of their skin.
The creatures swam up to Hickson without moving their legs. Two men grabbed him from both sides. Something pricked my arm and made it impossible to move. Charles could only watch as the creatures dragged him into their machine. The third elephant was carrying Parker's limp body.
There were no seats or equipment visible inside the ship, just a very bright light. Hickson hung in the air like an astronaut in zero gravity. Something that looked like an eye popped out of the wall, moving back and forth as if examining Hickson carefully. Then the creatures turned the captive over, and the " eye " continued its examination.
Finally, the "elephants" pulled their prey back onto the pier. And released. Hickson immediately fell backward - his legs would not obey. Parker stood motionless beside him, his arms outstretched as if in a deep trance. The brigadier crawled to his comrade but soon realized that he could get up. At that moment, the machine took off and disappeared flashing blue lights. The whole incident lasted about 20 minutes.
For a long time, Parker refused to tell what happened to him in the UFO, saying that he lost consciousness, I don't remember anything. But after 20 years, he started talking: they brought him to another room and put him on an inclined table. There was a "small" creature, in Parker's mind, female. It examined him. And then it stuck a needle in the "manhood", telepathically informing that there would be no harm from it.
Four hours later, the fishermen, having recovered a little, hurried to the police. Sheriff Fred Diamond and Captain Glen Rader saw that they were clearly shaken to the core, but did not believe the story about the UFO.
To catch the narrators, the police took them to a separate room, turning on a hidden recording. But even in private, the fishermen were shaking with fear, exchanging fragmentary phrases. And Calvin just got down on his knees and started praying.
After listening to the tape, Raider realized that the men were not joking, and contacted the Kiesler Air Force Base. There, the "contactees" were examined by army doctors. After making sure that Hickson and Parker were physically healthy, the military cross-examined them. At the same time, police officer Tom Huntley was present, who drew attention to the fact that the military behaved as if they heard about the abductions on board the UFO every day. When Hickson mentioned that the creatures ' hands were like claws, the two colonels looked at each other, apparently familiar with the detail.

Ufologist James Harder, who took over the baton from the military, came to the conclusion:
I have no doubt that these two people have experienced something terrible.

Charles Hickson passed a lie detector test. When the test was over, the operator exclaimed, "It looks like that son of a bitch is telling the truth!"
The official conclusion of the test was not so emotional: "The subject sincerely believes that he saw an extraterrestrial ship and was taken on board by some creatures."
It soon became clear that the UFO over Pascagoula was seen by three other people-police officer Raymond Broadus, city councilman Eugene Sagalas and a woman who did not want to identify herself. The ship was exactly the same shape as the one described during the interrogations of the abductees. In 2001, retired Navy officer Mike Cataldo said that that evening he and two of his companions also saw an object over the docks. A tiny asteroid is gearing up for a very close Earth approach tomorrow morning, but there's no reason to panic. While the object is predicted to graze almost as close as the moon, it will safely pass by us at a distance of about 372,000 miles, scientists at NASA’sCenter for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) have announced.
Known as 2021 EM4, the asteroid is racing through space at a speed of 14,920 mph and will be closest to Earth at 6:27 a.m. on March 19. Approximately four hours later, the rock will swing by the moon, coming within 559,200 miles of the lunar surface.
Given that the average distance between Earth and the moon is 238,900 miles, the rock will dart past us at 1.59 times the lunar distance without posing any threat to the planet.
Discovered Just Three Days Ago
Perhaps the most notable thing about 2021 EM4, other than its impeding close brush with Earth, is that it was only recently uncovered. The rock was detected by NASA asteroid trackers on March 15 and has since been studied extensively by astronomers looking to determine its orbit and how closely it will skim Earth.
According to a report from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), 2021 EM4 belongs to the Apollo asteroid class, which is known to potentially cross Earth's orbit. The rock orbits the sun once every 418 days or about 1.14 years, periodically swinging through our neck of the cosmic woods, sometimes even twice a year.
Its Second-Closest Approach To Earth

Although we've only been keeping tabs on 2021 EM4 for a short amount of time, the space rock had been regularly visiting Earth for the past century or so. Based on orbital observations, the JPL team compiled a list of the rock's close Earth approaches dating back to 1909 and stretching into the future as far as the year 2065.
Interestingly enough, tomorrow's flyby will be the rock's second-closest encounter with Earth. Its closest-ever approach occurred exactly 112 years ago to the date and brought the asteroid within 325,500 miles of Earth.
The asteroid is due for another visit later this year, on October 4. However, its next trip will take it significantly farther away from Earth -- some 19,54 million miles away, to be exact.
House-Sized Asteroid
As NASA points out, 2021 EM4 is estimated to be house-sized. CNEOS data shows the rock can range between 36 feet and 78.74 feet in diameter.
Even at the upper end of that size estimate, 2021 EM4 is still a fairly small asteroid. By comparison, the Apollo asteroid that crept closer than the moon on Monday was up to 124,67 feet wide, as reported by The Inquisitr.
Little as though it may be, 2021 EM4 could still pose some serious concern should it wander too close for comfort. After all, the smaller, 65.5-foot Chelyabinsk meteor caused a substantial amount of damage when it exploded in the sky over Russia on February 15, 2013, destroying more than 7,200 buildings and injuring nearly 1,500 people.
Nevertheless, NASA assures the upcoming flyby will proceed without incident.
Second Asteroid In Tow
Tomorrow's celestial visitor comes with another, slightly larger asteroid in tow. Hot on the heels of the 6:27 a.m. near-miss, a second Apollo asteroid dubbed 2021 EY2 will whizz by at 9:33 a.m.
Unlike its predecessor, 2021 EY2 will travel at a much greater distance from Earth's surface, cruising some 2.23 million miles away at a breakneck speed of 21,608 mph.

This, according to them, is the oldest known lava that has fallen to the Earth. It also offers a perspective on the way planets were formed during the early days of the solar system.
The rock was discovered in Algeria’s Erg Chech dune sea, that is also how it got its name. It actually consists of several meteorites that together weigh around 70 pounds. After getting their hands on the samples, researchers were able to discover when this piece of crust that melted as lava, crystallized into a solid form.
Protoplanet meteorite rock
Research of magnesium and aluminium isotopes dated the rock back to 4.566 billion years ago, which is the oldest known piece of igneous rock ever found, according to the study. To put things in perspective, the last known oldest igneous meteorite dubbed NWA 11119 is around 1.24 million years younger than EC002. Earth on the other hand only emerged several million years after these rocks came into existence.
The meteorite is 58 percent silicon dioxide that suggests that it is an ancient parent body with a crust made from andesite rock -- different from basalt rock that’s otherwise commonly found in volcanic regions around our planet. They reveal that these crusts were commonly found in asteroids and protoplanets during the solar system’s early days but have become extremely rare today.
The study was led by Jean-Alix Barrat, a professor of geochemistry at the University of Western Brittany, in France. She explained in the study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, “EC 002 is clearly distinguishable from all asteroid groups, and no object with spectral characteristics similar to EC 002 has been identified to date,” while claiming that “the remnants of primordial crusts are not only rare in the meteorite record, but they are also rare today in the asteroid belt.”

Researchers added, “This suggests that the earliest differentiated protoplanets that populated the solar system, as well as most of their debris, were certainly destroyed or subsequently accreted to the growing rocky planets, making the discovery of meteorites originating from primordial crusts an exceptional occurrence.”
They are of the belief that EC 002 was ejected from its parent body, decades after the protoplanet’s crust cooled and crystallized while also showcasing details about the evolving cores of the planets in a time when Earth didn’t exist.
The first interstellar object to pass through the solar system has finally had its identity revealed.
‘Oumuamua, which means ‘scout’ or ‘messenger’ in Hawaiian, was originally spotted in 2017. The mysterious object was moving at 196,000 miles per hour, and while it looked similar to a comet there were aspects to it that simply did not add up.
While the strangely flat object moved like a comet, it appeared to have a surface made of solid nitrogen – similar to the surface of Pluto.
A new study, published as a pair of papers in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Planets, sheds more light on this theory.
“This research is exciting in that we’ve probably resolved the mystery of what ‘
is and we can reasonably identify it as a chunk of an ‘exo-Pluto,’ a Pluto-like planet in another solar system,” said Steven Desch, an astrophysicist at Arizona State University and an author of the new study.
“Until now, we’ve had no way to know if other solar systems have Pluto-like planets, but now we have seen a chunk of one pass by Earth.”
The scientists believe that ‘Oumuamua was knocked from the surface of a Pluto-like world half a billion years ago, rejected from its own solar system as it headed towards our own.
‘Oumuamua likely gained its flat appearance when its mass melted away as it flew close to our sun, according to Alan Jackson, a co-author of the study. More than 95 per cent of the comet’s body was reduced, he adds, making it more flattened than any other known solar system object.
“Being made of frozen nitrogen also explains the unusual shape of ‘Oumuamua. As the outer layers of nitrogen ice evaporated, the shape of the body would have become progressively more flattened, just like a bar of soap does as the outer layers get rubbed off through use,” Jackson said.
It also acquired a push from the Sun known as a ‘rocket effect’ that was greater than would usually be expected.
“That was an exciting moment for us,” Desch said. “We realized that a chunk of ice would be much more reflective than people were assuming, which meant it could be smaller. The same rocket effect would then give ‘Oumuamua a bigger push, bigger than comets usually experience.”
Finally, ‘Oumuamua also lacked a visible tail that is a key characteristic of most comets, implying that there was not gas escaping from the cosmic rock.

“We knew we had hit on the right idea when we completed the calculation for what albedo (how reflective the body is) would make the motion of ‘Oumuamua match the observations,” Jackson said. “That value came out as being the same as we observe on the surface of Pluto or Triton – bodies covered in nitrogen ice.”
When ‘Oumuamua was first detected its inexplicable origins led some to speculate that it was a piece of alien technology. While many will be disappointed that this is not our first official encounter with extra-terrestrial life, the discovery allows scientists to examine extrasolar systems in a new way.
“It’s hoped that in a decade or so we can acquire statistics on what sorts of objects pass through the solar system, and if nitrogen ice chunks are rare or as common as we’ve calculated,” Jackson said.
“Either way, we should be able to learn a lot about other solar systems, and whether they underwent the same sorts of collisional histories that ours did.”
The study used measurements gathered from Mars-orbiting spacecraft, rovers and meteorites.
Researchers then developed a computer simulation of how water was lost from the planet over time.
More than four billion years ago, Mars was warmer and wetter - possibly with a thicker atmosphere. Water coursed through rivers, cutting channels in the rock, and pooled in impact craters.
The Red Planet could have held enough water to cover its entire surface in a layer measuring between 100m and one kilometre deep.
Around a billion years later, Mars had made the transition to the colder, desolate planet we recognise today.
"We have known for a long time that Mars was much wetter in its early history. But, the exact fate of that water has been an ongoing problem," said planetary scientist Dr Peter Grindrod, who was not involved with the latest study.
Dr Grindrod, from London's Natural History Museum, told BBC News: "We already know from studies of the atmosphere of Mars that some of that water was lost to space, and ice deposits on and just below the surface tell us that some water became frozen."
Escape to space
Earth has a magnetic shield, or magnetosphere, that helps prevent the atmosphere from escaping. But Mars' magnetic shield is weak and could have allowed elemental components of water to escape from the planet.
But the rate at which hydrogen - one chemical constituent of water - escapes from that atmosphere today suggests this can't be the whole story.
If it's assumed that the current loss rate for hydrogen was the same in the past, "it's a pretty small amount of water that you would have lost through this escape process", said co-author Eva Linghan Scheller, from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena.
In other words, most of the water must have gone elsewhere.

The results of the team's computer modelling work show that between 30% and 99% of Mars' initial water was incorporated into minerals and buried in the planet's crust.
Co-author Prof Bethany Ehlmann, also from from Caltech, explained that, "by studying data from Mars missions, It became clear that it was common - and not rare - to find evidence of water alteration".
She continued: "When the crust becomes altered, it takes water - like liquid water - and sequesters it in a hydrated mineral that has water in its structure so that it is effectively trapped."
The authors suggest that most of the water was lost between about 4.1 and 3.7 billion years ago - during a stretch of Martian history known as the Noachian Period.
Martian climate change
Dr Michael Meyer, lead scientist for Nasa's Mars exploration program, said: "The original overarching role of Mars exploration has been to follow the water, since it plays such a central role in the geology, climate and life of the planet.
"This is a very important paper to understand how much water was on Mars, how it might have been lost and where it might be today."
Dr Grindrod added: "What this new study tells us is that a lot of that water, possibly the majority, could have actually been locked into the rocks on Mars. This process of hydration is capable of storing large volumes of water, up to an amount equivalent to a global layer a kilometre deep."
"Although most of the liquid water had probably disappeared after about one and a half billion years after Mars formed, we see evidence of hydrated minerals at the surface today, in areas like Jezero Crater, which is currently being explored by the Perseverance rover.
"The early climate of Mars remains one of the most important topics in planetary science, and this study will help our understanding of the processes responsible for water loss."
Whether you believe extraterrestrials exist on other planets or in other galaxies, or you believe they’re already here, your challenge is to identify them – hopefully to welcome them to Earth. But, how can one do this if we don’t know what ETs look like? A zoologist has an answer and his new book might be the perfect handbook for both astronauts and the Earth welcoming committee – or the committee that decides whether the ETs are here to greet us, beat us or eat us.
“The most important rule is that life arises by natural selection. Life adapts to its environment. Complex aliens will have evolved from simple aliens, to solve the problems on their planet. Problems like finding food, avoiding becoming someone else’s food, and reproducing.”
University of Cambridge astrobiologist and zoologist Arik Kershenbaum is the author of a new book: “The Zoologist’s Guide to the Galaxy“. In an article in Science Focus, he explains that his zoological description of aliens is based on Darwin’s theory of evolution – specifically, the idea of natural selection. That idea would restrict the development of ETs just as it restricted the development of life on Earth, allowing species to move up based on successfully conquering the conditions of the moment. Kershenbaum believes that these “universal laws of biology” of biology are in effect on all planets regardless of their environments.
“Aliens will have predators, and they will have prey. Predators will need to be like predators on Earth: fast or stealthy – their prey won’t want to be eaten! Prey will need to defend themselves: by camouflage or by armour? And maybe, like on Earth, some creatures will solve their problems in a special way: by grouping together. Wolves hunt in a pack, and zebras stay in a herd to keep safe from lions. Some aliens will be solitary, but some will also be social.”
All of those things can happen in any environment, right? Kershenbaum gives some examples. If their planet is a water or liquid world, the aliens probably developed fins or jet propulsion – both effective means of movement in liquid. Legs win out on a solid surface over rolling, flopping and other methods of movement. Since the search for food is universal, the means to find it should be as well – combinations of the senses of touch, smell, sight and hearing would be successful developments on Mars or on exoplanets. Here’s another universal trait Kershenbaum sees.
“Symmetrical animals move so much faster than non-symmetrical ones, they have a real advantage. That doesn’t mean that circular (or even triangular) aliens are impossible. But think about how they evolved: why did they get an advantage by being circular or triangular? Maybe circular creatures could evolve in a bottomless ocean, where there’s no advantage to crawling.”
Symmetry means balance, which is required no matter how much or how little gravity a planet has. A New York Times review points out that Kershenbaum predicts some aliens will exhibit social cooperation, technology and language, and some will have intelligence – perhaps enough to do those things with us. The real question is … will there be some that are MORE intelligent than us?
Kershenbaum doesn’t provide any drawings of aliens or detailed descriptions – four eyes, eight arms, green skin, forked tongue, big head, pointy ears – but it’s easy to see that starting with “natural selection” ends up with ETs resembling life on Earth. Does this also mean that if there are aliens among us, they will evolve to look exactly like us?
It at first might not seem that scientists and the paranormal really get along most of the time. After all, paranormal phenomena are often seen by many as lying outside of the wheelhouse of science, and mainstream scientists are often likened to a sort of enemy in a sense, as they are seen as not willing to look into these strange things. However, science is not always the enemy, and there have indeed been very well-known, respected scientists who have gone down rabbit holes that lead them into the paranormal. One of these was a brilliant physicist who entertained the thought that humans could unknowingly exert psychic influence on the outside world around them, which he thought had also actually manifested in himself.
Austrian physicist, Nobel laureate, professor of theoretical physics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and early pioneer in quantum mechanics, Wolfgang Ernst Pauli is largely considered to be one of the most brilliant physicists to have ever lived. He was the first to propose the existence of the neutrino in 1930, won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1945, was widely praised by Albert Einstein, won the Max Planck medal in 1958, and was instrumental to the development of many areas of theoretical physics and quantum theory. Pauli was highly respected among his peers, an impeccable scientific mind like no other, but he also had some rather strange ideas and oddness orbiting him, with one of these being what would later be called “The Pauli Effect.”

It began when people, including Pauli himself, noticed that whenever he was around in a lab there was an inordinate number of freak mishaps and malfunctions of equipment. Almost without fail, when Pauli entered a lab, things would break, electrical systems would malfunction or go haywire, beakers would crack, bunsen burners would fail to ignite, and various equipment would either stop working or experience some sort of disturbance, with even fires breaking out on occasion. Colleagues jokingly referred to it as “The Pauli Effect,” stating as one of its laws “a functioning device and Wolfgang Pauli may not occupy the same room,” but as it continued it became very noticeable that it seemed to all be beyond coincidence and jokes. The effect even seemed to work through walls or across distances. One popular anecdote is that one time Pauli was passing the railway station of Göttingen, when at that moment several pieces of lab equipment at the nearby University of Göttingen exploded without any apparent reason. Similarly, another story has it that when Pauli was visiting Princeton’s Institute for Advanced Study the Princeton University physics department’s massive cyclotron particle accelerator inexplicably burst into flames and burned for more than 6 hours before being put out.
As weird incidents like this increased in frequency, Pauli’s peers went from joking about it all to starting to believe there was something truly weird going on in the physicist’s presence, and that there was perhaps something to it. It is rumored that the experimental physicist Otto Stern once even banned Pauli from his lab for fear that he would break something or ruin an experiment. It is interesting to note how these serious, top level scientists were starting to elevate The Pauli Effect to a superstition, seeing it as beyond rational explanation. One science photographer by the name of David Fathi would once say of this:
I had a lot of problems trying to understand how some of the brightest minds of their time could give in to ideas that seem like pure superstition. But now I think that to work in a field like quantum physics, so abstract and far removed from common intuition, you probably have to be predisposed at thinking far out of the box, and you have to be creative and open to weird ideas.
Wolfgang Ernst Pauli
Pauli himself began to seriously consider that there was some as yet unexplained phenomenon behind it all, convinced that it was all real. This was not a big jump for him, as he was already curious about parapsychology and subscribed to C. G. Jung’s ideas on synchronicity, which Jung described as “circumstances that appear meaningfully related yet lack a causal connection,” as well as the hidden meaning of dreams. Pauli began to come up with some way to explain it all, theorizing that certain people had the ability to somehow affect technical equipment in their vicinity through forces not yet understood. Pauli was so convinced that this was a real mystery that he discussed it at length with Jung. One of his ideas was that this was due to a sort of psychokinesis, in which mental energy is projected to have an effect on physical surroundings. Pauli would say:
The existence of relatively constant psychic contents that survive personal ego…All we can observe is their effect on other living people, whose spiritual level and whose personal unconscious crucially influence the way these contents actually manifest themselves.
It is interesting that Pauli’s musings on this are some of the earlier ideas put forth on psychokinesis, in an era before it even had an official, agreed upon name. Pauli was never able to prove any of this, but he allegedly spent much time pondering it and writing of it in his journals. He often lamented that there was no way to prove any of this under strict lab conditions, that in the end it was mostly based on anecdotal evidence, and that it was probably doomed to forever remain misunderstood. However, he maintained that the Pauli Effect was real, that people could mentally influence surrounding objects and electronics right up until his death in 1958. So was this just superstition among scientists or was there anything to it at all? It is hard to know just how grounded this was in reality, but it remains a curious little piece of lore merging science and the paranormal, as well as a strange little historical curiosity.

De robotjeep zette zich op 7 maart met zijn zes wielen voor het eerst in beweging na op 18 februari succesvol te zijn geland. Van dat ritje over 27,3 meter heeft een gevoelige microfoon nu een geluidsopname van meer dan zestien minuten gemaakt. De NASA heeft die beklijvende opname woensdag vrijgegeven.
"Als ik met mijn auto zou rijden en die geluiden zou horen, dan zou ik stoppen en een takelwagen bellen", zegt hoofdingenieur Dave Gruel van het camera- en microfoonsysteem. "Maar als je er even bij stilstaat wat je hoort en waar het is opgenomen, is het volkomen logisch."
Aanvankelijk was het de bedoeling naar het landen te kunnen luisteren, maar de leiders van de missie wilden ook geluiden van op het Marsoppervlak laten horen.

Mars Life Past and Present
It’s almost a mantra these days: find life on the Red Planet. That’s why we’ve sent so many probes to Mars since the early 1960s. Each orbiter, lander, and rover was sent to look for evidence of Mars life in places like the scene above. This is the Octavia E. Butler Landing site for the Perseverance rover. The rocky outcrop in the short distance is a sedimentary deposit that was once part of a river delta. On Earth, this would be a perfect place to look for life.
Since the Martian surface is so barren-looking, the search for evidence of life—or, for life itself—has to be painstaking. There are no trees or plants or Martians waving at our cameras. All we see are rocks, plains, craters, mountains, and ice caps. Yet, those areas all hold clues to the Mars of the past. Those clues may even point to the existence of life there today. We just have to keep collecting data to find it.
It’s interesting to think about how we’d do the same search on Earth if we were, in fact, Martians. First, we’d train telescopes on Earth and try to figure out what the markings on the surface were. The blue color is a pretty strong hint of water on the planet. The clouds would also provide clues about the atmosphere and how “wet” it is. On the landmasses, some areas do change color with the seasons, but you’d need stronger proof than that. So, we theoretical Martians would send spacecraft with cameras, spectrometers, and other instruments, to get “up close” images and data.
Looking for Life in Hard Places
What if we theoretical Martians happened to land our spacecraft on Earth and managed to totally miss the oceans? There are some really barren parts of Earth that look totally devoid of life. Imagine showing up at the dry Antarctic valleys or the high altitude deserts of Chile. What conclusions would we come to about the possibility of life on the planet? What would we be looking for there in terms of life?
Such extreme environments would not necessarily be barren, particularly if there’s any water available. According to Nathalie Cabrol, director of the Carl Sagan Center for Research at the SETI Institute, life-hunters from another world would probably be searching out microbes. There are extreme environmental conditions in some of Earth’s areas that seem barren to us but definitely support thriving microbial colonies. “You can walk on the same landscape for miles and find nothing,” she points out. “Then, maybe…the slope changes by a fraction of a degree. Or, the texture or the mineralogy of the soil is different because there is more protection from solar ultraviolet light. And, all of a sudden, life is here.”
Getting back to Mars, then, is to consider that the Red Planet is a whole world of extreme environments that are similar—but much harsher than—what we see on Earth. And, what matters on Mars, is to look for clues that life might exist there now. The first clue is the existence of water. The second clue might be to look in a relatively protected area. That might be just underneath the surface regolith. Or, perhaps, underground in a hydrothermal system rich with water or in subsurface ice. Microbes might even be hidden away in something as unexpected as a crack in the crystalline structure of a rock.
Life is Tenacious
On a world full of extreme environments such as Mars has, it makes much more sense to analyze it as an extreme biosphere. You can’t assume that Mars life will be like it is on Earth or that life will just migrate to places based on what we know about Earth.
Think of it this way: if you grow up in a wet climate, you’re going to think about safe places to live in a way that’s very different from a being that grew up in a very dry, inhospitable climate. Desert-dwellers here on Earth know this all too well and they can find sustenance in places that rain-forest dwellers wouldn’t even notice. Maybe Mars life has experienced such a change in environments through no fault of its own.
Past Mars and Current Mars
We all know that Mars was very different in the ancient past. The ancient Martian biosphere was warmer and wetter, at least for a time. But, it had to change when the conditions changed that supported that life. Today, any microbial colonies are living under vastly different conditions than they did in the past. When the environment shifted on Mars, so did the habitats. That change happened about 3.5 billion years ago. Before that, any life that existed was dispersed around the planet through the actions of rivers and oceans, windstorms, and other actions. Today, wind and dust storms still exist, and they could be an active transport mechanism for whatever life is eking out an existence.
Cabrol thinks that there is, indeed, Mars life today. However, it’s obviously not on the surface. That means the habitats are underground. If this is correct, then the ongoing observations of Mars by our spacecraft and landers will certainly give us good data on the surface conditions, but we’ll have to modify our definition of what are called “special regions” (where life could exist).
Understanding Mars Life and Habitats
What’s it going to take to understand the existence of microbial life on Mars, given that it’s hidden from our view? Mars scientists need a lot more data about Mars on a global scale, particularly the environment. That’s a big first step towad understanding the Martian biosphere. Even more crucial, they don’t yet have a way to “see” the regions where microbes could be existing now. That’s going to take ever-more specialized missions, and eventually, a “bootprints on Mars” human exploration approach to the search for life there. For the time being, however, we are learning more each day from rovers such as the Perseverance craft, which is just beginning its exploration of the Red Planet.

We open up the conversation by diving into the world of giant skeletons. Brad covers this extensively in the book & its also something that we talk about a lot on KBS. Brad talks the giant skeletons that were discovered in the Love Lock caves in 1912. As is the case with so many of these types of discoveries, information about the find was quickly suppressed by the Smithsonian Institute. This is something that multiple guests have covered on the show before.
What some people might not know is that its rumored that the billionaire Robert Bigalow purchased one of the Love Lock cave giant skeletons. Bigalow is a very interesting character & the man behind Bigalow Aerospace, the organisation that was working with the Pentagon’s AATIP (Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program) on advanced projects & allegedly working with materials covered from downed alien technology.
Bigalow was also the one time owner of Skin Walker Ranch, a location that arguably, as we cover on the show, some kind of active stargate with crafts coming & going all the time, in addition to the other high strangeness associated with the property in Utah. One thing I will say for sure is that Bigalow sure does have a thirst for all the types of information & woo that we here on KBS crave to know more about.
Back to the show & we also talk about elongated skulls. One of the skulls we discuss comes from Chullpa in Peru. The image below shows the type of skulls we discuss on the show & really must make one question just what it is we are looking at. Is it just the result of binding as main stream antropologists & archaeologists would have us believe? Or could it be that we are looking at a lost race of humans, or perhaps this is evidence of the giants & maybe, just maybe…. ancient aliens!

Its said that these beings came down here to mine gold to use in their own atmosphere of their home planet that is called Niburu. Brad talks about the Rh Negative factor in the blood & how it just appeared out of nowhere. Something strange is going on here for sure & add to that the Rh Negative people having traits that the rest of the population dont have. Are we looking at evidence of ancient aliens using something akin to CRISP-R kits to create a species that would mine the gold for them?
I have often thought about the story of the Announaki & there is something that rings true in my opinion. Whether or not they did come here is always going to be up for debate, but try and think about it this way…. if we eventually end up an interplanetary civilization that is out there exploring the galaxy, what would we do if we came across a habitable planet that was rich with priceless resources? I’ve thought about this, and I cant get away from the notion we would be right down there to get our hands on the loot, and we sure as hell would use CRISP-R kits on any creature that we may be able to enhance genetically to our advantage. So, if we would do it in our future, which i think we will, then who is to say that it hasn’t already happened here?
This is one of the amazing things about being alive at this unique time. We have so much information at our fingertips, like at no other time in recorded history, that we know of anyway & I dont think its an accident its all come together at a time when everything is going through great changes. We are living in apocalyptic times, in the truest meaning of the word, for the ‘apocalypse’ is the revealing of everything, good & bad, and that is what is going on right now. Yes, these truly are some of the most testing of times, but as we discuss on the show, both Brad & I are optimistic about the future. Things may actually get worse before they get better, but never forget, the darkest hour always comes right before the down.

Steven & Evan have been working for over 15 years on piecing together the oldest story ever told. Its a story that has been passed down orally through the generations & remains a part of the Dreamtime.
The Dreamtime is a commonly used term for describing important features of Aboriginal spiritual beliefs and existence. It is not generally well understood by non-indigenous people.
Aboriginals believe that the Dreamtime was way back, at the very beginning. The land and the people were created by the Spirits. They made the rivers, streams, water holes the land, hills, rocks, plants and animals. It is believed that the Spirits gave them their hunting tools and each tribe its land, their totems and their Dreaming.
Steven & Evan present the stories of the Elders relating to the time of our creation. They also get into the scientific evidence that backs up the “Out Of Australia Theory”. We discuss how some of the oldest skeletons found the in the US were unmistakably Australian in origin. This hints to the First Nations people of Australia making it all the way around the world, with evidence of their presence in countries like Egypt & beyond.
One of the most jaw dropping pieces of evidence that we get into on the show is the image of a skull that Steven helped to excavate. This is one of the skulls that point towards something very alien going on in Australia at one time & whats even more interesting is that this was found buried next to Aboriginal people, something that typically would never happen if we were dealing with a deformity or mutation.
We are aware of four skulls spread across three states separated by over 2,000 kilometres, that tick no sapien or hominid box. They are not mutations, as the skulls come from four different tribal estates, and more importantly, at the burial site I examined the Alien being was fully intact buried with great respect. His knees and arms were wedged up against her chest and the body was facing east. The two front teeth were extracted, and the removal was clean as nothing remained. This type of ceremony was still taking place on this country until Cook and the British invaded. So, with this combination of numbers and ritual, we can summarily dismiss any notion of a lesser mutation or genetic cul-de-sac.
Undeniably the size of the eye sockets of the reconstructed skull made from eight pieces from another site, more than fifty photographs of the complete buried skeleton and skull plus the other two skulls found elsewhere, is massive by comparison. We feel the reconstructed skull is male, as it is two centimetres larger than his colleague at the burial site. This non-hominid has eyes 46% larger than those of any sapien. But there is more than just big eyes to this deviation from the human norm, much more.
Just above the eyes is something we all share, an eyebrow ridge which has a slight depression between the eyes. However, that is not the case here, in the same place the opposite is occurring, in that between the eyes is a protruding crest. Also positioned between the eyes is of course the nose, it is a composite construction being partially bone, but primarily ligament. For sapien skulls that non-bone segment leaves a circular shaped hole, when it comes to the Alien being the residual shape is much larger and more triangular. Remaining at this unusual nasal display, this non-hominid has a nose that begins over a centimetre higher than ours.

THE ULURU CEREMONY
Steven & Evan describe a ceremony that took place at Uluru in December last year. They talk about how the Australian government did everything they could to prevent people gathering at Uluru for a ceremony that the elders explained had to take place at this time due to the changes we & the planet on the whole are going through.
We talk about intention frequently on the show & what took place in December is phenomenal. There were approx 15 million people all around the world doing focused meditation & at the very same time there was a significant uptick in the Schumann resonance of the planet. We look at some of the other evidence that great changes are taking place right now, within us, within the animals, everything is going through change.
One thing we touch on close to the end of the show is how to best navigate through these times. It’s hard to accept, but not everyone is going to fully wake up & move on to the next level. Around the world people are starting to ask more & more questions as this awakening picks up pace. Its important to remember that you are on your personal journey & its your journey, no one else.
On the flip side of that, we encourage people not to spend too much time trying to convince people to $$wake up, because unfortunately the time for that has passed. Its easy to see this as being selfish, but its truly not. For you are responsible for the journey you are on, as is everyone else & we all have free will. All we can do is sow seeds along the way in the hope that one day they will take root & help others in their journeys, but if not, its ok.
With so much going on in the world right now its very easy to get emotionally caught up in things. Online there has never been such division & its no coincidence that its happening right now at this time of great change.
We need to reconnect with the planet, the animal, the cosmos, for we are all from the stars… and one day soon we may just make it back there.

For some time we have been extremely blessed to have come into contact with so many amazing people from Australia. They have been long time listeners to KBS & in recent times have become regular speakers on the show.
I must state here how grateful I am to archaeologists Dan & Jessica Knigge for putting us in contact with Uncle Donny & Auntie Luna, both of whom have shared information that rarely is given away so freely to us White Fellas. Its an honor for me to help them get their message out to people who need to hear these stories for all our Elders.
We are very lucky indeed to have so much wisdom being shared on the show at a time when people need to hear this information most.
For if we want to move forward & make it our future, we must look backwards to the past so we can remember who we are, where we come from & where we are going.

Stephen Hawking has been gone for three years this month, but he lives on in reruns of “The Big Bang Theory,” “The Simpsons” and “Futurama,” as well as in physics, cosmology and the many other fields his genius influenced. Now he has a chance to be famous in the far reaches of the solar system in a new(ish) but unproven theory that the mysterious Planet Nine exists, but not as a planet. Searching for Hawking radiation, some scientists think they can prove it’s actually a black hole using a high-speed spacecraft flyby. Could proving this convince the cast to reunite for one more “The Big Bang Theory” and toast Stephen Hawking?
I was right!
“Since this planet has not yet been observationally found with conventional telescope research, it has been argued that it could be a dark compact object, namely a black hole of probably primordial origin. Within this assumption, we discuss the possibility of detecting Planet 9 via a sub-relativistic spacecraft fly-by and the measure of its Hawking radiation in the radio band and conclude that it is too faint compared to the CMB. We thus present other perspectives with rather a satellite mission and conclude that smaller black holes would give much more interesting signals. We emphasize the importance of the study of such Hawking radiation laboratories in the Solar System.”
In a pre-print paper titled “Detecting Planet 9 via Hawking radiation” and another titled “Hawking radiation by spherically-symmetric static black holes for all spins: I — Teukolsky equations and potentials,” Alexandre Arbey and Jérémy Auffinger from the University of Lyon explain – in detail far beyond this writer’s pay grade – that a planet’s Hawking radiation would be too weak to detect with Earth telescopes but that of small black hole might be unusual enough to be picked up. It could then be inspected by a next generation New Horizons-style spacecraft designed to fly faster and farther. That mission would also help pinpoint its location so that more powerful telescopes could look at it.
“Nevertheless, if P9 were indirectly localized using for example spacecraft trajectory measurements or LSST flares, an orbital mission would be of great importance to study the properties of black holes and Hawking radiation, and would allow for more advanced measurement techniques, for example by screening the CMB and focusing the antenna on P9. Finally, we extrapolated the present discussion to lighter PBHs that could have been captured by the gravitational field of the Sun and concluded on the advantages of these configurations for the detection of Hawking radiation, since their emissivity would be dominant as compared to the CMB.”
In essence, Black Hole 9 would be the closest black hole to Earth, thus making black hole research much easier to accomplish. This would help all astronomers by providing more data on how to better search the Cosmic Microwave Background for the anomalies that indicate black holes and more. Finally, it would open the door to the possibility that the Sun has more primordial black holes in its grasp than just Black Hole/Planet 9.
Stephen Hawking
If Hawking radiation really proves that Planet 9 is actually Black Hole 9, what would Stephen Hawking say? Not sure about that, but there’s a good chance that if he reads this “way out of my league” review, he’d says something like he did to another poor soul on “The Big Bang Theory”:
“You made an arithmetic mistake on page 2. It was quite a boner.”
