Het is een lief, aanhankelijk hondje, dat zich op een week snel aan ons heeft aangepast. Ze is heel vinnig en nieuwsgierig, een heel ander hondje dan Noleke.

Who was the Basilosaurus, the ‘king lizard’ that was neither king nor lizard?
Who was the Basilosaurus, the ‘king lizard’ that was neither king nor lizard?
The king of the lizards turned out to be the first fully ocean-dwelling whale.
Today, we know that the Basilosaurus is the first ancient whale humanity has ever found. But back when it was first described, the animal’s huge proportions earned it the name of ‘king lizard’. And although technically incorrect, the name isn’t undeserved; during its day, the Basilosaurus ruled the waters of Tethys with an iron flipper and a really impressive set of teeth.

This creature lived 40 to 35 million years ago, during a part of geologic time known as the late Eocene. The dinosaurs were quite well gone by this time, and mammals were well on the way to dominating the planet. The Basilosaurus was also a mammal — a whale, no less — and could grow up to 60 feet (a bit over 18m) in length. Needless to say, you can’t skip meals and grow so large. But this species likely had no issues getting full, as the Basilosaurus was, by all indications, a formidable apex predator.
It was first described in 1834 from fragments of a skeleton found in the US. Due to the sheer scale of the fossils, their striking similarity in shape and function to marine predatory dinosaurs, poor availability, and the limits of paleontological understanding of the day, the species was initially assumed to have been a dinosaur — and christened the ‘king of the lizards’, Basilosaurus
How come?
The academic story of this genus starts with B. cetoides, the first ancient whale species ever discovered, which was unearthed in Louisiana around 1830 by Richard Harlan and still serves as the type species of Basilosaurus.
Details from the dig and the wider goings-on around the fossils aren’t very good from the time, but we do know that bones from this dig were sent to the American Philosophical Society by Judge Henry Bry of Ouachita County, Louisiana and Judge John Creagh of Clarke County, Alabama, according to theEncyclopedia of Alabama. Here, they were examined by Richard Harlan, one of the US’s earliest paleontologists and naturalists, who would end up christening the new species.
Upon first examination, Harlan was very excited. Comparing the bones he received to those of Plesiosaurus and Mosasaurus, two species of marine dinosaurs that were already described at the time, he concluded that the new species grew no less than 80–100 ft (24–30 m) long. Still, there were enough structural similarities between its vertebrae and those of Plesiosaurus, as well as between its skull and that of Mosasaurus, for Harlan to assume that the species were related. At the very least, he assumed, they lived around the same time.
The first signs that this name wasn’t really spot-on came when Harlan took his specimens to the UK for consultation with his peers there. Richard Owen, a controversial figure but a superb paleontologist, observed that the animal’s molars were two-rooted. No known fish or reptile at the time showed the same structure, and Owen suggested the animal might have been a whale instead. The two even agreed to rename it Zeuglodon cetoides (“whale-like yoke teeth”).
A few years later the other known species, B. isis, would be described based on fragments of bone recovered from Egypt. Although the first full skeleton of B. isis wouldn’t be unearthed until 2016, the discovery of this species and its fossil association with species that were known to have been whales at the time further suggested that all Basilodons were, in fact, mammals. This was helped by the fact that Basilosaurus fossils actually became quite common over time, so much so that in the 19th century they were even used as andirons, furniture, or decoration.
Over the years, paleontologists have wisened up to the fact and tried to change the genus’ name. However, zoological naming conventions meant that the original name stuck. Today, the Basilosaurus is the state fossil for Alabama and Mississippi.
How did it used to live?
One thing that Harlan got right about the Basilosaurus was that it was large. This whale was bigger even than some predatory dinosaurs that came before it, and it undoubtedly threw its weight around the ancient, lost sea of Tethys.
Another thing it definitely threw around were bites. Unlike most whales today, Basilosaurus didn’t filter feed, it hunted. Its jaws were lined with several types of teeth, including molars and canines, which are specialized for chewing and ripping, respectively. Such teeth are characteristic of meat-eating species.
Two other important characteristics of the species are a skull asymmetry and a relatively low intracranial volume. The first is a trait it shares with modern toothed whales such as orcas. Today, this asymmetry is associated with whales’ ability to produce high-frequency sounds for echolocation; Basilosaurus likely didn’t have this ability, however, and its skull was asymmetrical in order to house a fatty sensory organ meant to help it hear underwater. The lack of room for a big brain inside its skull likely means that Basilosaurus was not a social species, like whales are today, and that it also wasn’t as capable from a cognitive standpoint.
Such traits can be indicative of an evolutionary ‘work-in-progress’. The Basilosaurus seems to have been the first whale species to live entirely underwater, marking the point where the lineage of walking whales finally took the plunge.
It most likely spent its day as a solitary hunter, or at most, one that lived in small groups. Social interactions are extremely demanding, from a cognitive point of view, and Basilosaurus’ brain just seems to have been too small to adequately navigate living in a group.
Still, who needs big brains when you have big brawns? Analysis of fossilized, scarred Dorudon skull bones — this is another genus of prehistoric whale that was the preferred prey of Basilosaurus — suggests that the king of lizards could bite down with 3,600 pounds per square inch (PSI).
To put things into perspective, that’s 233 times more pressure than a fully-loaded M1A2 main battle tank exerts on the ground under its tracks. Most industrial hydraulic presses in use today exert between 1,000 to 3,000 PSI, which is still under the estimated high ofr Basilosaurus. You do not want to get bitten by one of these.
With big bites, however, also comes good manners. Wear patterns on Basilosaurus teeth suggest that the animal bit and then chewed its food, unlike most predators today, whose teeth are specialized in ripping chunks of meat off the bone, that are then gulped up whole. In regards to what they ate, stomach contents seem to indicate that B. cetoides hunted fish and large sharks exclusively, while we know from Dorudon skulls that B. isis would also hunt these. Dorudon was a larger animal, related to today’s dolphins, and B. isis likely focused on delivering a killing blow to its head before tearing it apart while feeding (many Dorudon skeletons, especially those showing signs of predation from Basilosaurus, are found disarticulated).
King no more
The Basilosaur genus went extinct, with our last fossil evidence of them hailing from around 40 million years ago. They didn’t leave behind any direct descendants which, judging from their teeth, isn’t the worst thing to have ever happened.
We’re not entirely sure why they disappeared. Sometime around 40 million years ago, something happened to bring these toothy kings low. However, the fact that other toothed and baleen whales are around today suggests these smaller relatives of the Basilosaurus out-competed them in the end. It might have been their big brains, it might have been their social nature, it could even have been their more modest appetites; for now, it remains a mystery.

Humans have been trying to contact aliens for many years, but do the aliens want to contact us?

This is a great question – and the truth is that we don’t know the answer.
For starters, we haven’t found any aliens yet, so we haven’t been able to ask them and receive a reply. When we try to answer the question “do they want to contact us”, we have to put ourselves in their shoes – that is, if they have feet.
The question presumes that aliens do exist. And again, because we haven’t found any yet, we don’t know if they do. It is possible they may exist, for one simple reason: we exist. Whatever made the likes of bacteria evolve into complex bodies with intelligent brains on Earth may have also occurred on another planet.
On Earth this transformation seems to have taken place quite suddenly some 700 million years ago. At that time the Earth was already almost 4 billion years old, and had been inhabited by simple lifeforms such as bacteria for much of that time. Why did it not happen sooner? And what made it happen? Until we find the answers to those questions we cannot tell how likely it is that it also occurred elsewhere.
If there are aliens out there, they might want to contact us for the same reasons we want to contact them.
One reason why scientists on Earth are looking for aliens is that we are curious. We want to know if they exist, what they are like, and what our relationship with them might be. Curiosity is a powerful force, leading us to look beyond the horizon and to try new things. It is how we have developed science and technology, why we can have video calls with friends on the other side of the world and why we can now venture out into space. Aliens may be curious about us, too.

But there are other reasons why we want to contact others. We have sometimes needed help from others, or companionship. Perhaps aliens, too, would look to us for help or friendship.
They may also be interested in our planet. Earth has perfect conditions for life. Aliens might need another home, if for some reason – such as climate change, nuclear war or an enormous asteroid impact – they had to leave their own planet.

It’s also possible that they would not be looking for friendship. There are plenty of examples from our history of times when humans have travelled somewhere on Earth and acted cruelly, killing or enslaving the people that lived there. Aliens settling on Earth might want us out of their way. There’s another reason – humans are predators who eat other lifeforms. Aliens might find us nutritious or tasty too.
These are all possible reasons why aliens might want to contact us. But what if they didn’t? Some aliens might find us boring, hard to understand, too primitive to deserve their attention, or potentially bearing disease. Conversations across the vastness of space take many years, and travel much longer still. Some aliens might simply not be interested in life beyond their own world.
On the other hand, it may be that life such as ours is actually very common. With so many worlds and civilisations to choose from, we may simply not yet have caught their eye. If that is the case, we might soon detect alien life around nearby stars for ourselves.

San Diego often tops the lists of people looking to move to a place with great temperatures, great beaches, and great amenities. It rarely appears on the lists of places with great booms – until recently when the beautiful California city was suddenly hit by mysterious booms that no one seems to know the source of or wants to take credit for. Residents, tourists bureaus, animals at the San Diego Zoo – they all want to cool it with the boom booms. Will that happen or will San Diego end up like so many other locales around the world with no answers to the mysterious sounds they’re being plagued by?
“People from Del Mar to Chula Vista took to social media Wednesday afternoon to report a “boom” that shook doors and startled pets, leading many to speculate that the region had experienced a short, mild earthquake. Posts on Twitter and Facebook described a loud boom, accompanied by shaking doors and cabinets.”
That afternoon boom was reported by the San Diego Tribune on January 15, 2020. A U.S. Geological Survey spokesman quickly said it wasn’t an earthquake, an ongoing exercise at Camp Pendleton with artillery fire had been canceled for the day, the San Diego-based Naval Air Forces said none of the Navy’s aircraft were the source of the boom, and Marine Corps officials from the MCAS Miramar-based 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing also denied responsibility. That boom remained unsolved.
“Some sort of weird shaking thing happened in San Diego a few minutes ago. Didn’t feel like an earthquake. More like a bizarre wind gust. Not sure what it was, but I’m not in favor of more bad things happening.”
One year later, on the afternoon of February 16, 2021, San Diego got hit by another boom which the USGA quickly reported was not an earthquake. Reports on this one came from Rancho Bernardo on the north side, 30 miles south from Chula Vista and 30 miles east from El Cajon. This time, no reported comments from the military.
“For the second time in about three weeks, residents from across San Diego County reported feeling a mysterious shaking — or in some cases hearing a loud boom — late in the afternoon Wednesday.”
That was around 5 pm on March 10, 2021, and the USGA reported that it was not an earthquake. (Do you detect a pattern here?) Again, no reported comments from the military, but local officials seem to be ruling out sonic booms or artillery fire anyway. A new theory came from Humberto Mendoza Garcilazo, a researcher at the Center of Scientific Research and Higher Education, who suspected stormy weather and atmospheric pressure changes, but National Weather Service meteorologist Brandt Maxwell told the San Diego Union Tribune there were no thunderstorms in the area and “even with a strong cold front, you won’t get that kind of rumbling.”
So, no answers … only denials and silence. The booms occurred in the same area at about the same time of day. Earthquakes and weather are easy to rule out – records of both are in the public domain. The military is supposed to notify the public of unusual noise occurrence due to exercises or testing – but no one would be surprised if secret operations were not reported until possibly later with an “Oops, we’re sorry.” However, that hasn’t happened in San Diego. These booms bracket the coronavirus pandemic – could they be from secret military operations related to it? If the military is ruled out, what else could they be?
That’s the question being asked around the world as these mysterious sounds are heard more and more frequently. The media seems concerned in the moment, but quickly moves on to the next big news. Is it time for an independent organization to investigate these booms? Are there secret files or a secret internal group for mysterious booms like there is for UFOs? Both are possible security threats.
We’ll continue to report these mysterious sounds until someone gives an answer. Until then, report, record and repeat.

However, the military theory may have been ruled out, the Union Tribune reported.
'That wasn't one of ours,' Cmdr. Zachary Harrell, a Navy spokesman, told the outlet.
Harrell noted that military jets are required to break the sound barrier far off the coast where they would not be heard.
One Twitter user speculated the sound came from artillery rounds at Camp Pendleton.
'Live in Valley Center, North County and assumed it was just a much louder round of artillery at Camp Pendleton. Website says they are doing Mortar Fire all day and I thought I heard some earlier and again this evening,' @scarrcats tweeted.
Officials with Camp Pendleton confirmed to KGTV that soldiers were conducting artillery training on Wednesday but could not confirm if that was responsible for the boom.

San Diego County Sheriff's Department received calls about the boom but KSWB-TV that they did not know what caused it.
A researcher at the Center of Scientific Research and Higher Education told the Union Tribune that supersonic airplanes could have caused the 'rumble.'
But Humberto Mendoza Garcilazo also suggested it could may have been caused by stormy weather and atmospheric pressure changes, the Union Tribune reported.
National Weather Service meteorologist Brandt Maxwell told the outlet he was skeptical that it was caused by weather.
There were no thunderstorms in the area at the time of the boom and 'even with a strong cold front, you won't get that kind of rumbling,' he told the outlet.

Not Science Fiction: German Physicists Say Traversable Wormholes Possible
German physicists explore the possibility of tunnels in spacetime.
Wormholes play a key role in many science fiction films — often as a shortcut between two distant points in space. In physics, however, these tunnels in spacetime have remained purely hypothetical. An international team led by Dr. Jose Luis Blázquez-Salcedo of the University of Oldenburg has now presented a new theoretical model in the science journal Physical Review Letters that makes microscopic wormholes seem less far-fetched than in previous theories.
Wormholes, like black holes, appear in the equations of Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity, published in 1916. An important postulate of Einstein’s theory is that the universe has four dimensions — three spatial dimensions and time as the fourth dimension. Together they form what is known as spacetime, and spacetime can be stretched and curved by massive objects such as stars, much as a rubber sheet would be curved by a metal ball sinking into it. The curvature of spacetime determines the way objects like spaceships and planets, but also light, move within it.
“In theory, spacetime could also be bent and curved without massive objects,” says Blázquez-Salcedo, who has since transferred to the Complutense University of Madrid in Spain. In this scenario, a wormhole would be an extremely curved region in spacetime that resembles two interconnected funnels and connects two distant points in space, like a tunnel. “From a mathematical perspective such a shortcut would be possible, but no one has ever observed a real wormhole,” the physicist explains.
Moreover, such a wormhole would be unstable. If for example, a spaceship were to fly into one, it would instantly collapse into a black hole — an object in which matter disappears, never to be seen again. The connection it provided to other places in the universe would be cut off. Previous models suggest that the only way to keep the wormhole open is with an exotic form of matter that has a negative mass, or in other words weighs less than nothing, and which only exists in theory.
However, Blázquez-Salcedo and his colleagues Dr. Christian Knoll from the University of Oldenburg and Eugen Radu from the Universidade de Aveiro in Portugal demonstrate in their model that wormholes could also be traversable without such matter.
The researchers chose a comparatively simple “semiclassical” approach. They combined elements of relativity theory with elements of quantum theory and classic electrodynamics theory. In their model, they consider certain elementary particles such as electrons and their electric charge as the matter that is to pass through the wormhole. As a mathematical description, they chose the Dirac equation, a formula that describes the probability density function of a particle according to quantum theory and relativity as a so-called Dirac field.
As the physicists report in their study, it is the inclusion of the Dirac field into their model that permits the existence of a wormhole traversable by matter, provided that the ratio between the electric charge and the mass of the wormhole exceeds a certain limit. In addition to matter, signals — for example electromagnetic waves — could also traverse the tiny tunnels in spacetime. The microscopic wormholes postulated by the team would probably not be suitable for interstellar travel. Moreover, the model would have to be further refined to find out whether such unusual structures could actually exist. “We think that wormholes can also exist in a complete model,” says Blázquez-Salcedo.

The scientists conducted the research for their paper within the Research Training Group “Models of Gravity” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). It is headed by Oldenburg physicist Prof. Dr. Jutta Kunz together with Prof. Dr. Claus Lämmerzahl from the Centre of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM) at the University of Bremen. In addition to the University of Oldenburg, several other universities and research institutions are also involved in the programme.

Wormholes Could Allow Travel Across the Universe, as Long as Your Spacecraft is Microscopic
In my last post, I talked about the idea of warp drive and whether it might one day be possible. Today I’ll talk about another faster-than-light trick: wormholes.
Wormholes are an old idea in general relativity. It’s based on work by Albert Einstein and Nathan Rosen, who tried to figure out how elementary particles might behave in curved spacetime. Their idea treated particle-antiparticle pairs as two ends of a spacetime tube. This Einstein-RosenBridge would look like a black hole on one end, and an anti-black hole, or white hole, on the other end.

The particle physics idea never panned out, but work inspired other researchers to study ER-bridges as a possible shortcut through space. If wormholes were traversable, you could burrow through spacetime like a worm burrowing a hole through an apple. It didn’t take long for theorists to discover this wouldn’t work. Although wormholes are valid solutions to Einstein’s equations, they collapse so quickly you’d never have time to go through them. In general relativity, wormholes aren’t traversable.
Of course, impossibility never stops a persistent theoretician, and soon they figured out you could make a wormhole traversable by lining it with some kind of negative energy. The same kind of negative energy that could be used for warp drive. But as I mentioned last time, matter with negative mass/energy doesn’t seem to exist.

But all is not lost. We know that Einstein’s theory must break down at quantum scales because it is a classical theory. Presumably, there is some quantum theory of gravity that supplants general relativity. We don’t yet have a complete quantum gravity model, but we do have several approximate models that will point us in the right direction.
One of these models is known as the Einstein-Dirac-Maxwell theory. It is so named because it includes aspects of Einstein’s theory of gravity, Maxwell’s theory of electromagnetism, and Dirac’s theory of quantum particles. Recently a team found a wormhole solution to the Einstein-Dirac-Maxwell equations.
The team found that their wormhole solution was fully traversable. What’s more, the solution doesn’t require any negative-energy states. In principle, that would allow you to travel through the wormhole without needing negative mass. The only catch is that you would need to be in a quantum state. So microscopic clumps of atoms could travel through this wormhole, but not people.
While this is interesting work, it is just a toy model. There are lots of solutions to Einstein’s equations that can’t exist for reasons beyond gravity. The team plans to explore their idea further to see if their solution is yet another impossible idea, or whether there might be a way to create this kind of quantum wormhole. And if this idea does work, it will still be easier to pass through the eye of a needle than it will be to enter the distant heavens.

An eyewitness in Puerto Rico yesterday noticed some strange lights moving around the sky. Then dogs began barking for no reason. Just like in many past UFO reports...animals often sense the alien presence nearby and began to panic. Here we hear the dogs barking crazily. This is a sign...that the sighting is real. This eyewitness recorded several UFOs near the space station on live cam. There is at least four UFOs flying past all in different directions. But there may be more. The live ISS cam is aimed at the earth, so the objects are flying between the space station and the earths orbit. One of the objects comes very close to the space station and should have aroused alarms to awaken the astronauts on board the station. NASA doesn't tell us what these things are, but they could be UFOs. They could also be satellites. This year seems to have had hundreds of satellites released into earths orbit by SpaceX. So...its hard to say what these thing really are. But one thing is for sure...they are unidentified, they are flying and they are objects...UFOs.

On April 29, 2007 Alberto Mayer who lives in Busto Arisizio, Italy and is an amateur astronomer found an incredible discovery almost by accident. He states that while adjusting the focus of his telescope that night at 10:52 pm, when he spotted and tracked on video a UFO as it flew across the surface of the moon. The short two-minute video he made seems more that of a professional astronomer than an amateur, but he prefers to be called amateur. The video shows the portions of the moon that he was focused on in close up mode while tracking a solid black round object as it flew over the surface of the moon at an elevation he measured to be 214 meters above the moons surface. This video is absolutely amazing, both in the way he put it together and in its organization. The round black item is tracked as he catches it on its journey beginning just after it passed Wallace crater and then passes over Wallace Alps, then on its way it passes below or near these craters, Egede, Eudoxus, Plana. As it passes Plana crater and comes between Daniell & Grace crater, it hovers and hesitates for about 15 seconds, before it makes a sudden change of path at an exact 45-degree angle. Also note that before it turned, 32 seconds into the video it abruptly slowed down to half its original speed before it suddenly hesitated for 15 seconds, and then moved upward at a 45-degree angle. As it moves upwards, you can see it passed the labeled craters on the moon in this order, Grace, Plana, Borg, Bally A, Bally, Gartner, Democritus, Moigno A, Baillaud, and De sitter before it disappears around the moons edges to the dark side, out of the telescopes view. As the black UFO passes by Grace crater, it began to not only speed up, but also continue to pick up momentum until it was 1.75-2.0 times faster than it was when first seen traveling past Wallace Alps! Reflective flash drew my attention to the object which i thought was a helium balloon at first, then noticed it was traveling at speed towards my location horizontally. Flight path was in front of low clouds, clear sunny day not raining, ufo disappears out of sight behind tree branches. After looking at video a couple more ufo’s appears to be present to the right hand side tree. After looking at video frame by frame it looks like it moves from point to point. In one frame two ufo disappear from screen and appear to leave a white mark in the cloud and then reappear.

The birth of the legend
It is Solon the Athenian politician, legislator and statesman who makes Atlantis known to the world, after his meeting with the Egyptian priest Sonchis de Sais, on one of his trips to the African country.
The priest told the story of a city that existed some 9,000 years before his time . In Plato’s dialogues “Timaeus” and “Critias” Solon invokes Plato and claims that it is he who will tell the location of Atlantis.
For Plato, Atlantis is the source of history , an energetic island that appears as a great military power 9,000 years before the legislator Solon.
Larger than Libya and Asia Minor together, located after the Pillars of Hercules. Its power was so immense that it conquered Western Europe, North Africa, until Athens could stop it.
It was at the same time that an unprecedented cataclysm completely wiped out the armies and the island.
Plato mentions:
“Through violent earthquakes and floods, in a single day and night of misfortune … [The entire race] … was absorbed by Earth and the island of Atlantis … disappeared into the depths of the sea.”
The sea where Atlantis was located was no longer navigated because there were very few survivors, Athens and Greece forgot the disaster .
The submerged Pyramid found measures 8,000 square meters and 60 meters high.
However, Egypt does remember the stories of that city. A manuscript that mentions Citrias, says that his legacy was preserved for thousands of years until he reached Solon.

Experts wonder what exists behind the columns of Hercules that could suggest that Atlantis was there?
Currently there are 9 volcanic islands that make up the Azores, a place located more than 1,000 kilometers from Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.
In recent years, experts have identified a huge structure near the islands of São Miguel and Terceira in the Azores that could be a submerged pyramid.
Surprisingly, the islands of the Azores is the exact place that Plato mentions as the area where Atlantis existed.
Several experts discovered that the submerged pyramid is perfectly square , with an equally exact orientation at its cardinal points .
Scientists confirm that the structure has been under the sea for at least 20,000 years. Or from the time when the glaciers on Earth melted, after the last Ice Age.
The Portuguese media attributed their find to Diocleciano Silva . According to his estimates, the pyramid measures at least 8,000 square meters and 60 meters high.

A mysterious video recently submitted to MUFON (Mutual UFO Network), a US-based non-profit organization that studies alleged UFO sighting is now the hottest debating topic among conspiracy theorists and alien believers. In the video, apparently shot from Tennessee, a glowing disc-shaped flying object can be seen hovering in the night skies. Even though the video clip was shot last year, it was submitted to MUFON recently.

The eyewitness who saw the alleged UFO sighting claimed that the event took place in Hillsboro. Initially, the eyewitness thought that the glowing object could be Venus, but he decided to take a closer look using his telescope, as the planet appeared on the wrong side of the sky.

After watching the video, several people started claiming that aliens have visited earth, and they could be gearing up for an invasion.
Alien hunter assures presence of extraterrestrials on earth
The video was later analyzed by self-styled alien hunter Scott C Waring, who is known for making unbelievable claims regarding extraterrestrial existence on earth. Waring, on his website UFO Sightings Daily claimed that the disc-shaped UFO spotted in the skies, had an antenna on its top center and a glowing window around its center.
"It's actually a classic disk but is attempting to create a cloud form around it causing it to appear thicker than it really is. The second photo above is proof of this. This is a rare sighting of a real glowing disk at night over Tennessee. The real kicker is that it has an antenna on its top center...just as scientist Bob Lazar who worked in Area S4 inside Area 51 said some disks have and will fly tiling at an angle. The antenna is actually the source of its movement. Not engines...but direction movement. The actual propulsion systems are separate," wrote Waring on his website.
A few weeks back, Haim Eshed, a former Israeli space security chief had claimed that alien existence on earth is real. He also added that the United States and Israel are working together with an advanced alien species.
Clever camerawork allowed scientists to view an elusive cloud that streams away from Mars’ volcano Arsia Mons and determine how it’s formed.
A long, thin cloud – which comes and goes with the Martian seasons – appears in this September 2018 photo from ESA’s Mars Express orbiter. This cloud has been seen to stretch 1,100 miles (1,800 km) and span some 93 miles (150 km) in width. This week, scientists said they now understand what creates the cloud.

Scientists announced on March 9, 2021, that they’ve unraveled the mystery of what creates a regularly occurring, long, thin cloud seen to stream away from the now-extinct Martian volcano named Arsia Mons. The cloud formation – which occurs seasonally – appears to be produced by a combination of the volcano’s height plus meteorological conditions in that part of Mars on spring and summer mornings. These conditions both cause the cloud to form, these scientists said, and explain why the cloud dissipates by midday.
Arsia Mons is the southernmost volcano of a row of three prominent volcanoes found near Mars’ equator. It rises more than 12 miles (20 km) above the Martian surface. In comparison, our earthly Mount Everest is only about 5 1/2 miles (9 km) tall, and Olympus Mons, the highest mountain on Mars and in the solar system, is 16 miles (25 km) tall. Orbiting spacecraft still see signs of ancient lava produced by this volcano millions of years ago.
The cloud flowing from Arsia Mons is similarly impressive in size. It can stretch as long as 1,100 miles (1,800 km) and span some 93 miles (150 km) in width.
A study published December 20, 2020, in the peer-reviewed journal American Geophysical Union explains how climate systems similar to those on Earth produce the cloud. Martian geography – the specific arrangement of Mars’ physical features, for example – pushes the feature to extremes.

Scientists nabbed a series of photos of the cloud by using the Mars Express Visual Monitoring Camera. The camera’s original purpose was to confirm that the mission’s Beagle 2 lander had separated from the Mars Express orbiter. The mission team recently reclassified the camera for scientific research. It’s not a new camera; the Mars Express mission launched in 2003, and thus the camera’s resolution is similar to a computer’s webcam from 2003. But this camera had other advantages that let scientists monitor the cloud’s movements. Jorge Hernández Bernal, lead author of the paper from the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao, Spain, explained:
Although it has a low spatial resolution, [the Visual Monitoring Camera] has a wide field of view – essential to see the big picture at different local times of day – and is wonderful for tracking a feature’s evolution over both a long period of time and in small time steps. As a result, we could study the whole cloud across numerous life cycles.
The images showed that the cloud formation appeared in the spring and summer months every morning before dissipating in the afternoon. The cloud follows a daily pattern of appearing around dawn at an altitude of 28 miles (45 km), then expanding for 2 1/2 hours as it’s pushed westward at immense speeds of 373 miles (600 km) an hour, until the cloud detaches from Arsia Mons and evaporates before noon in the warming air.
These observationsgave scientists clues about what formed the cloud. They said they now believe it’s formed due to a process called orographic lift, or the rising of air as it flows over rising ground.

When spring arrives in southern Mars, a cloud of water ice emerges near the volcano Arsia Mons, rapidly stretching out for many hundreds of miles before disappearing hours later. A detailed long-term study reveals the daily and seasonal behavior of this cloud, using new observations from the Visual Monitoring Camera on ESA’s Mars Express, along with data from other Mars orbiters.
Orographic lift occurs among earthly clouds as well. It happens when a flowing air mass meets a large obstruction, such as a mountain or volcano, and is forced upward. As the air mass rises higher in altitude, the cooler temperatures so far above the surface allow moisture to condense into clouds. This orographic cloud is the largest ever seen on Mars. Co-author Agustin Sánchez-Lavega, also of the University of the Basque Country, said:
Although orographic clouds are commonly observed on Earth, they don’t reach such enormous lengths or show such vivid dynamics. Understanding this cloud gives us the exciting opportunity to try to replicate the cloud’s formation with models that will improve our knowledge of climatic systems on both Mars and Earth.
By the way, spacecraft images of the white cloud flowing off Arsia Mons have been captured before. In the 1970s, Viking 2 caught the first images of a cloud in this region of Mars. These observations were followed up by many spacecraft over the years, including the Indian Space Research Organization’s Mars Orbiter Mission; two NASA missions, Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter; and ESA’s Mars Express.
Despite all these eyes on the red planet, the constraints of earlier spacecraft didn’t allow for continuous or extended observations of this curious cloud feature until recently. In fact, most cameras orbiting Mars were in orbits that only let them observe this region of Mars in the afternoons.
And that made this morning-loving cloud an unsolved mystery, until now.
Bottom line: Clever camerawork enabled scientists to view an elusive cloud that streams away from Mars’ volcano Arsia Mons and explain how it’s formed through orographic lift (rising air over a mountain) during the morning hours.
Nikola Tesla was one of the greatest scientific minds our world has ever known. Although mysteriously absent from school textbooks, he accomplished much in his lifetime, discovering radio and remote control — the backbone of NASA’s current technology — drone technology, cosmic radio waves, and more. He was also a big proponent of free, unlimited energy for everyone.
Tesla publicly demonstrated his first working model of a robot guided by radio waves, unveiled to many astonished viewers at the Electrical Exposition held at Madison Square Garden, in May 1898. This was front page news in America at that time. It marked the first time that radio waves were used to guide the movement of a robot — 11 years before Marconi was awarded the Nobel Prize for the discovery of radio in 1909.
In today’s world of science, few remember that most of our pioneering physicists and chemists were mystics. Certainly this is the case for Tesla, whose idea of free energy was greatly influenced by Vedic philosophy. It is an unfortunate reality that even someone as brilliant as Tesla would be maligned as a pseudoscientist by mainstream researchers if he were alive and working today.
Tesla wasn’t just a proponent of wireless communication and energy. He also believed we are not alone in the universe — a conclusion which has become blatantly obvious, even to many mainstream scientists. In fact, a recent congressional hearing in the United States saw top U.S. astronomers tell Congress that extraterrestrial life most certainly exists, without question. And a number of scientists and military and political personnel have told us that we are not alone, and that we have been being visited by intelligent extraterrestrial life for a long time.
Tesla offered these remarks in an interview he gave to Time at the age of 75:
I think that nothing can be more important than interplanetary communication. It will certainly come someday, and the certitude that there are other human beings in the universe, working, suffering, struggling, like ourselves, will produce a magic effect on mankind and will form the foundation of a universal brotherhood that will last as long as humanity itself.
Few people know that in 1899, while working at his Colorado Springs laboratory, he announced that he had received extraterrestrial radio signals. The scientific community thought he was nuts, and in fact, cosmic radio signals didn’t even exist at the time. One an easily imagine how alone and misunderstood Tesla must have felt.
The Black Knight Satellite
It’s known as the “Black Knight Satellite,” and although it wasn’t confirmed by scientists until 1932, Tesla discovered it in 1899 while in his Colorado Springs laboratory, hearing strange rhythmic sounds on his radio receiver. The confirmation in 1932 gave birth to the field of radio astronomy, which is now used to decode and detect messages from distant stars and other mysterious celestial sources. Tesla writes:
I can never forget the first sensations I experienced when it dawned upon me that I had observed something possibly of incalculable consequences to mankind. I felt as though I were present at the birth of a new knowledge or the revelation of a great truth. Even now, at times, I can vividly recall the incident, and see my apparatus as though it were actually before me. My first observations positively terrified me, as there was present in them something mysterious, not to say supernatural, and I was alone in my laboratory at night; but at that time the idea of these disturbances being intelligently controlled signals did not yet present itself to me.
The changes I noted were taking place periodically, and with such a clear suggestion of number and order that they were not traceable to any cause then known to me. I was familiar, of course, with such electrical disturbances as are produced by the sun, Aurora Borealis and earth currents, and I was as sure as I could be of any fact that these variations were due to none of these causes. The nature of my experiments precluded the possibility of the changes being produced by atmospheric disturbances, as has been rashly asserted by some. It was some time afterward when the thought flashed upon my mind that the disturbances I had observed might be due to an intelligent control. Although I could not decipher their meaning, it was impossible for me to think of them as having been entirely accidental. The feeling is constantly growing on me that I had been the first to hear the greeting of one planet to another. . . . I was not merely beholding a vision, but had caught sight of a great and profound truth. (source)(source)
Tesla believed that the signals he was picking up on were from Mars. Here’s another statement he gave on what he found:
Others may scoff at this suggestion…[of] communicat[ing] with one of our heavenly neighbors, as Mars…or treat it as a practical joke, but I have been in deep earnest about it every since I made my first observations in Colorado Springs… At the time, there existed no wireless plant other than mine that could produce a disturbance perceptible in a radius of more than a few miles. Furthermore, the conditions under which I operated were ideal, and I was well trained for the work. The character of the disturbances recorded precluded the possibility of their being of terrestrial origin, and I also eliminated the influence of the sun, moon, and Venus. As I then announced, the signals consisted in a regular repetition of numbers, and subsequent study convinced me that they must have emanated from Mars, the planet having just then been close to the earth. According to theAmerican Physical Society Physics, Tesla concluded that these signals, or this strange unnatural object they originate from, was indeed extraterrestrial, or an effort to “communicate with Earth by alien beings.”
This was one of multiple incidents in which Telsa intercepted what he thought were intelligent signals from space. He states that even the simplest form of communication (such as the interchange of numbers) could represent a form of intelligible transmission from extraterrestrials.
Today, we know for sure that these signals are of extraterrestrial origin, but it’s assumed that they are radio waves from planets, comets, stars, or galaxies — not ‘ET.’
More than 30 years after the confirmation in 1932, a graduate student by the name of Jocelyn Bell noticed some strange data coming from her telescope at the Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory (MRAO). After a few weeks, she noticed that the signal being produced could not have originated from any known natural source, and she (and her team) ruled out every conceivable explanation, such as multiple sources of human interference, other radio astronomers, radar reflected off the moon, orbiting satellites, television signals, and more. Nothing could explain these strange signals.
She eventually published a paper in the scientific journal Nature, despite the fact that the source of the sound, though they knew it to be artificial, had not been determined.
These announcements caused quite a commotion at the time, and today it is common for strange signals, determined to be coming from ‘non-natural’ sources, to be detected. But who knows what they are?

What Happened:
Roscoe Hillenkoetter, the very first director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) once said that “It is time for the truth to be brought out…Behind the scenes, high ranking Air Force officials are soberly concerned about UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense. I urge immediate Congressional action to reduce the dangers from secrecy about Unidentified Flying Objects
He said this decades ago. Hillenkoetter is also mentioned in this declassified document archived and released by the CIA. This particular document also mentions Carl Jung. It reads as follows:
This is a reply to the letter (Aug. 6) criticizing Dr. Carl Jung for his belief in flying saucers and his charges that the Air Force has been covering up the truth about these objects. I would like to point out that Dr. Jung is not the first person of integrity and reputation who has made such charges. He is merely the latest. Exactly the same charge has been made by Admiral Delmar Fahrney, former director of the naval guided missile research program, and by R.M. Hillenkoetter, former chief of the Central Intelligence Agency. Both of these men would be in a position to know how much the AF investigation of saucers really found.
The piece was written by Fred A. Kirsch, a well known UFO researcher.
So what did they really find? Keep in mind this document is from 1959, it’s now 2021. How much has been discovered and how much has been kept from the public? In his very last interview before his death, Colonel Robert Friend, who from 1958-1962 was a director of Project Blue Book (U.S. Air Force UFO investigation project) suggests the U.S. Air Force knew what these object were. Fast forward to today, and we now have “abundant evidence that we are being contacted, that civilizations have been visiting us for a very long time.”

If Jung were the only responsible person to make such charges, we could brush the whole thing off as nonsense. However, when a number of pilots, radar operators, and other trained observers agree that the UFOs are real, a serious reappraisal of the situation is in order.
Today, UFOs have gone mainstream, and the same information is being emphasized. For example, Christopher Mellon, who was the former Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary for Intelligence from 1997 to 2002, recently made an appearance on CNN stating the same facts about these objects. Many people have concerns about “mainstream UFO disclosure” given the fact that governments and mainstream media, according to many, have deceived the public on so many occasions. The same year that this document pertaining to Jung was written, he released his book called Flying Saucers: A Modern Myth of Things Seen in the Skies, which examines “not the reality or unreality” of the titular phenomena, but their “psychic aspect,” and “what it may signify that these phenomena, whether real or imagined, are seen in such numbers just at a time” — the Cold War — “when humankind is menaced as never before in history.”
It seems, in my opinion, he was quite convinced of the phenomenon. Especially given the fact that he accused the Air Force of a cover-up. Again, fast forward to today and we now know he was right.
In 1957, New Republic editor Gilbert A. Harrison wanted to get this Jung’s perspective on UFOs in his magazine. You can see (via The Awl) a scan of Jung’s response to Harrison’s query, the text reads as follows:
The problem of the Ufos is, as you rightly say, a very fascinating one, but it is as puzzling as it is fascinating; since, in spite of all observations I know of, there is no certainty about their very nature. On the other side, there is an overwhelming material pointing to their legendary or mythological aspect. As a matter of fact the psychological aspect is so impressive, that one almost must regret that the Ufos seem to be real after all. I have followed up the literature as much as possible and it looks to me as if something were seen and even confirmed by radar, but nobody knows exactly what is seen. In consideration of the psychological aspect of the phenomenon I have written a booklet about it, which is soon to appear. It is also in the process of being translated into English. Unfortunately being occupied with other tasks I am unable to meet your proposition. Being rather old, I have to economize my energies.
Jung’s approach to UFOs was clearly binary. It would seem, especially given the claims in the CIA document that he believed them to be real, but was uncertain of their very nature and what they actually represented.
At the time, “academics” were well aware of the UFO phenomenon. Many decades ago Wernher Von Brauns mentor Hermann Oberth, the founding father of rocketry and astronautics, also known as the ‘father of Spaceflight’ stated his belief that “flying saucers are real” and that “they are space ships from another solar system. I think that they possibly are manned by intelligent observers who are members of a race that may have been investigating our Earth for centuries.” He wrote these words in “Flying Saucers Come From A Distant World”, The American Weekly, Oct 24, 1954.
It’s hard to believe that for all these years, despite the fact that evidence clearly suggested otherwise, that UFOs were thrown into the “conspiracy theory” bucket and one was made out to be a lunatic for even mentioning the possibility that they were real and possibly extraterrestrial. Today, it’s a much different story, but there is still a lot to uncover.

Debunking misinformation: FLIR1 (UAP) is really a jet
When it comes to the highly complex issue of UFOs (UAPs), the debunking of misinformation is critically important. Most notably, it becomes imperative to ensure that ‘Unidentified’ objects don’t get labeled as ‘extraterrestrial’. This is misinformation, mainly due to the fact that it is not supported by facts or solid evidence. Only an established government task force or DOD program that has access to radar data and/or certain materials should ever have the authority to determine such an extreme classification.
And this works both ways. We should not label various UAP military encounters as planes, balloons, drones or birds without official classification of an appropriate government investigation body. Unfortunately, that is exactly what is happening. Established debunker and sceptic Mick West has taken to trying to explain away the Gimble, Go Fast and FLIR1 videos as planes, balloons, drones or birds. Most recently Mick tries to imply that the FLIR1 object captured by Lt. Chad Underwood was a fighter plane without clarifying the alternatives as to why it might not be a plane, or without clarifying that the official DOD classification itself was ‘Unidentified’ and not a plane.
For anyone who has worked in academia or research, they would know that when you propose a hypothesis you must work to disprove it as much as you are looking to prove it. Science doesn’t care what the end result is, it cares about using an appropriate assessment methodology, accounting for all the factors, not just the ones which build your own narrative to reach the final conclusion.
Mick West isn’t doing that. That’s not a criticism against him as a person, but his methodology is highly flawed. There are critical issues within his approach across all three UAP videos, from Go Fast, to Gimble to FLIR1, all of which arguably stem from researcher bias. Then we have the issue of ‘disassociating data’. In order to fully understand the mindset we need to think like Mick.
Let’s work backwards from the assumption FLIR1 is a plane. I ask myself, how could I do it?
Ok. We know it’s a simple case of misidentified plane, so let’s work to see HOW we can prove it’s a plane. Firstly, we need to set about separating the Chad Underwood video from the eye witness accounts of Cmdr. David Fravor, James Slaight and Anon female wing pilot. Through doing we can eliminate the tricky issue of having to deal with a lot of well meaning, but confused pilots. Also, by doing this we reduce the chances that the ‘hyper acceleration’ of the plane was anything unusual and in fact just a locking glitch issue.
It’s important at this point that we ignore the relevance of missing radar data, because surely that radar data would track the planes final destination or origin as it engaged highly sensitive military airspace.
Another issue to overcome, planes don’t evade the most sophisticated, billion dollar defense strike groups that includes fighter jets and a AN/SPY1 tracking system that reaches over 300km (186 miles), particularly when they have entered into military airspace. So we have to imply and work on the assumption that the plane was misidentified by the military and somehow they weren’t able to identify it as a plane.
Another problem I face is that somehow I have to convince people that the nuclear strike group Nimitz and multiple Navy Pilot’s have never encountered another plane or captured one on FLIR gun camera footage prior to that moment. Simply put, I won’t mention it.
Also, it important to ignore other additional data such as other navy pilots such as Lieutenant Colonel “Cheeks” Kurth, a Marine Hornet squadron commanding officer who intercepted the Tic-Tac.
With this in mind, it is also important that we not mention missing testimony of three additional airmen/pilots on Chad Underwood’s encounter (2 fighter jets, 4 people). It’s also imperative that we don’t make a point of not requesting the data be forthcoming. What would be the point, we know it’s a plane, we’ve established it’s a plane and any incoming data might only serve to damage that established fact.
At this point, we should move forward on a two pronged approach. Firstly, we create multiple video that have scientific merit in their own right, but have little relation the real world incident. Secondly, we repeat the claim over and over, without ever conceding, which acts as a psychological stimulus under an ‘illusion of truth’ approach.
That’s how I would have ensured FLIR1 object was presented as a plane. Obviously, as you can see, there are multiple critical flaws in my approach. Overall, I am ignoring the overall, holistic picture with regard to FLIR1 + Tic-Tac, and the entire initiative.
The U.S. Government (The Senate Armed Forces Committee and the Select Senate Committee for Intelligence) created a UAP Task Force to investigate objects such as the ones reported on record in classified congressional briefings. These same Navy pilots involved have been in front of congress.
“In regards to the Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon Task Force mentioned in Times, Gough confirms the Department of Defense “is creating a task force to gain knowledge and insight into the nature and origins of UAPs,” as well as their “operations, capabilities, performance, and/or signatures.
The mission, Gough says, “will be to detect, analyze, catalog, consolidate, and exploit non-traditional aerospace vehicles/UAPs posing an operational threat to U.S. national security and avoid strategic surprise.”
The acknowledgement from the SSCI that there is an unidentified phenomenon engaging the military is a massive issue for Mick West. Generally, a UAP task force isn’t created on the misidentification of planes, balloons or birds. Given the advanced billion dollar technology of the Department of Defense it is highly unlikely that such identification systems could fail so badly to the point misinformation reached congress and then they act on that data.
‘The SPY-1 can maintain continuous radar surveillance while automatically tracking more than 100 targets at one time. Public numerical figures on the SPY-1 detection range claim that it can detect a golf ball-sized target at ranges in excess of 165 km. When applied to a ballistic missile-sized target, the SPY-1 radar is estimated to have a range of 310 km. The system is designed forblue water and littoral operations however SPY-1 configuration must be modified to look above the terrain to avoid causing excessive false targets from land clutter. Configuration changes to mitigate this technical issue have made it more difficult for AN/SPY-1 to identify and track low and fast targets.‘
And finally, with regards to FLIR1, the DOD gave the object a classification of ‘Unidentified’.
‘DOD is releasing the videos in order to clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real, or whether or not there is more to the videos. The aerial phenomena observed in the videos remain characterized as “unidentified.”’
That means that the incursions and the objects in the three videos have (as you would might expect) been thoroughly analysed to reach a classification of Unidentified.
There are some very interesting questions and answers, but, no more so than the very last question 7.

That means that to reach the classification of ‘Unidentified’, a thorough assessment by DOD is performed. So in summary, and in the case of FLIR1, for it to be a plane it means that the United States government is unable to identify a plane as it enters the secure airspace of a nuclear strike group. This is misinformation and needs to be stamped out in all forms, whether it be claims of extraterrestrials or planes, we simply don’t have the data to conclude.
Here is the answer: say ‘I don’t know, we need more data from the government’
Sitting out in Lincoln National Forest, near Ruidoso, not far from Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a reservoir that at first might seem to be a perfectly peaceful and placid place. It’s called Bonito Lake, and among locals it is a popular place to go for a day outdoors. Here one can see fishermen, campers, and families having picnics at the lakeshore, making it all seem like a nice little spot for a day out. Yet beneath its placid water Bonito Lake holds a dark secret that many of the visitors might not be aware of, and indeed the very area is pervaded by a grim history of disaster, murder, and hauntings that thrums below the quiet exterior.
In the mid-1800s, the Gold Rush in California and the southwest was causing a major epidemic of gold fever. People from all over the country were rushing in with dreams of striking it rich, with mining camps springing up anywhere gold was rumored to be, and Bonito City, New Mexico, was one of these places. Starting as a simple ragtag collection of dusty miner tents, as more gold hungry people flooded in it grew exponentially, until by the mid-1880s it included many permanent structures such as a schoolhouse, three general stores, a saloon, a post office, a hotel, a boarding house, a blacksmith and even a law office. At one point, Bonito City and Lincoln country was supposedly the most populous place in New Mexico, but it was also a lawless, wild place full of outlaws, thieves, bandits, and other unsavory elements, as well as a place of frequent violence such as shootouts and even a Lincoln County War, but one gruesome incident in particular would stick into the region’s history like a thorn.

In 1885 a miner by the name of Martin Nelson came to town looking to get rich just like everyone else, although many in town saw him as nothing more than a drifter up to no good. As soon as Nelson arrived, there was a wave of thefts, usually small but noticeable in how frequent they were. A lot of people suspected that Nelson was a thief, but no one could prove it. At the time, Nelson was staying at the town boarding house, run by a family called the Mayberrys, where he shared a room with a Dr. William H. Flynn of Boston. According to the tale, one day, Nelson couldn’t resist stealing Dr. Flynn’s fancy watch, but he was caught in the act. Nelson called out to the Mayberry’s and they came running to the room, where Nelson was caught red-handed and panicked. Unfortunately for Flynn and the Mayberrys, Nelson was usually armed, and in his panicked state he fired on them with his .38 caliber rifle, killing Flynn, John Mayberry, Sr., and his two sons, John Jr. and Eddie. Mrs. Mayberry, as well as wounding Mrs. Mayberry and her daughter Nellie, who tried to flee. Not wanting any witnesses, Nelson allegedly chased them to shoot them both in the back and kill Mrs. Mayberry, but for some reason he spared Nellie and let her live. The carnage increased when the saloon owner Pete Nelson (no relation), came running to see what the commotion was about and he was shot and killed too. After this a standoff ensued, with Nelson killing another man, grocer Herman Beck, as he made a run for it. After this, Nelson didn’t get far, either shot by the Sherriff or killed by a posse, depending on the version of the story. At the time it was an absolutely shocking development, one of the worst atrocities the region had ever seen, and historian Lynda Sanchez has said of it:
Even the bloody Lincoln County War with its mayhem and destruction seems a bit pale by comparison to that one night of rampage by Nelson, the man to whom these murders were attributed. The violence, the blood, the macabre scenario that will forever haunt that beautiful lake country is difficult to comprehend. Was it greed only, or someone gone mad at the wrong time? What tipped the balance of sanity and changed him into a devil whirlwind of destruction? There are many theories. It probably was the wantonness and the suddenness of the murders that shocked everyone, she said. During the time of Billy the Kid, there were two sides to that violence and the conflict went on for months and many more were killed, but that situation was a ‘war. You knew what to expect. But to have this fiend from hell come at you in the middle of the night must have been indescribable.
This is the main narrative, but details vary in different versions of the event, yet they nevertheless all agree that Nelson went on a deadly shooting massacre, and that after his death, Nelson was unceremoniously buried in a simple wooden box on unconsecrated land outside the city cemetery. In the wake of this horrific bloodbath, the Mayberry boarding house was closed and left abandoned, and it did not take long at all for it to start gaining a reputation as being haunted. People described lights on in the boarding house when no one was there, anomalous noises including disembodied screams and phantom gunshots, and bloody footprints appearing and disappearing. Even scarier were reports that the ghosts of both Nelson and the victims of his murderous crime could be seen lurking about on the property. Those who were brave enough to try and enter the boarding house were said to come out screaming or to go mad from what they had seen inside. The place was considered haunted, cursed, or both, prowled by ghosts and its very walls imbued with its bloody history.
Things went on like for decades, then in 1920 the Southern Pacific Railroad began construction of a dam in the area, which meant that Bonito City was soon to become a lake. The city had already been steadily on the decline, with less and less gold being found and shops closing down one after the other. The remaining residents were told that they had to leave, the remaining buildings either torn down or left abandoned as is to await their watery fate. Eventually, by 1930 the entirety of what had once been Bonito City was underwater, now Bonito Lake. The graves of Nelson’s victims were moved to another cemetery in nearby Angus, New Mexico, before this happened, but Nelson’s body remained.
It is likely that this is why even to this day Nelson’s restless spirit is said to haunt the lake. Visitors have reported seeing the apparition of a man in old fashioned clothing, thought to be Nelson, wandering along the lake shore only to vanish into thin air, and he has even purportedly been seen eerily floating about under the surface of the water. Interestingly, most of the many visitors to the lake are completely unaware that there was once a city beneath the waves here, nor that it was the scene of such a dark piece of local history. Are there mysterious forces surrounding this place? Does this location’s dark roots imbue it with supernatural phenomena? Who knows, but it is all an interesting piece of lore and an intriguing supposed local haunting all the same.
If a UFO falls in Siberia, can any Russian officials agree on what it was? If the recent bright ball of flaming UFO recorded passing over the village of Ust-Nera is any indication, the answer is a resounding “Nyet!” Some say rocket, some say meteor, some say falling batteries (really!), but no one seems to be saying “Da, I agree with you.” Could it have something to do with the fact that the road leading into Ust-Nera is called the “Road of Bones”?
“A video from the remote, frozen northern Russian village of Ust-Nera has gone viral online after locals spotted a seemingly burning unidentified flying object, with a clearly visible trail in the pitch-black Siberian night sky. Ust-Nera, which has a population of around 5,000, is one of the world’s coldest permanently inhabited settlements, with current temperatures dropping to around -32C at night. Founded in the 1930s, it is located on what is known as the ‘Road of Bones’.”
Rt.com reported that the flaming object passed over Ust-Nera at 8 pm on March 12 and posted a video from a witness (watch it here). The initial theory as to the cause of the UFO came from Viktor Grokhovsky, “an expert on meteorites at the Russian Academy of Sciences,” who blamed the UFO on 2.5 tons of dead batteries reportedly dumped by the crew of the International Space Station on March 11. Grokhovsky doesn’t say if they were Russian or American batteries, but Georgy Goncharov from the Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences disagreed, saying he thought it was a meteorite.
“Judging by the US Air Force data published on the website space-track.org, this object could well have been the Fregat upper stage, which in 2009 put the Meteor-M satellite into orbit.”

While the U.S. space program seems to have no official comment on the UFO, Sputnik News (via Urdupoint.com) reports that Russian space expert Igor Lysov checked it out with the US Air Force website space-track.org and thinks the object was part of a Russian rocket used in 2009 to launch a Meteor-M weather satellite — a series of spacecraft that date back to the Soviet Union days, as do the “Fregat” upper stage rockets. The Russian site Yakutia.mk.ru reported that Roscosmos, the Russian space program, approved that message.

So, why did one scientist blame ISS batteries (which, by the way, won’t burn out in the atmosphere for at least two years) and another blame a meteor? Could it have something to do with the Road of Bones? R504 Kolyma Highway is so cold, drivers won’t turn their ignitions off for fear of not being able to start them up again and freezing to death. However, the “Kolyma” in its name refers to a different kind of bones – the bones of those who died in Gulag camps along the Kolyma riverbed. Former Kolyma prisoner Varlam Shalamov wrote of working outside in temperatures as low as -50°C (-58°F) to mine iron ores, radioactive uranium and gold. Gold in Siberia?
“One of the most difficult labor was gold mining – workers had to wash up gold in water, even in the coldest days. They were not fed enough, they didn’t have proper clothes for such frost and their gloves (if they ever had ones) didn’t dry out. They constantly got frostbites and suffered from a range of illnesses, from dystrophy to tuberculosis, which they couldn’t get treatment for.”
As Russia Beyond explains, Russian officials cared more for the materials than the men, so they built more than 3,000 km (1864 miles) of roads, including a more than 2,000 km (1,242 miles) stretch from the city of Magadan to Yakutsk – the ‘Kolyma tract’ that earned its nickname — ‘Road of Bones’ – by taking 20 frigid years to build in order to take minerals out of a Gulag that killed more than more than 125 thousand people while it was in operation.
Is the ‘Just a rocket part from 2009 … nothing to see here … move along’ statement by Russian officials an attempt to hide the shame of the Road of Bones? Perhaps we should thank the UFO for lighting up Ust-Nera. Sadly, there are far too many things in this world we should “never forget.”

There Should be About 7 Interstellar Objects Passing Through the Inner Solar System Every Year
InOctober 19th, 2017, the first interstellar object ever detected flew past Earth on its way out of the Solar System. Less than two years later, a second object was detected, an easily-identified interstellar comet designated as 2I/Borisov. The appearance of these two objects verified earlier theoretical work that concluded that interstellar objects (ISOs) regularly enter our Solar System.
The question of how often this happens has been the subject of considerable research since then. According to a new study led by researchers from the Initiative for Interstellar Studies (i4is), roughly 7 ISOs enter our Solar System every year and follow predictable orbits while they are here. This research could allow us to send a spacecraft to rendezvous with one of these objects in the near future.

The study of ‘Oumuamua in October of 2017 set off a revolution in astronomy and the study of celestial objects. Not only was this an object that had formed in another star system, but its arrival and detection implied a large population of such objects. The detection of 2I/Borisov in 2019 confirmed what many astronomers already suspected – that ISOs enter our Solar System on a pretty regular basis.
In addition to being a physicist with the i4is (and the lead author on the study), Marshall Eubanks is the Chief Scientist of Space Initiatives Inc. and CEO of Asteroid Initiatives LLC. As he told Universe Today via email, the discovery of ‘Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov is significant in a way that cannot be understated:
“[J]ust by proving that they exist, it has had a profound impact, creating a field of study almost from nothing (a field that funding authorities are just beginning to recognize). Interstellar Objects provide us with the opportunity to study, and in the future literally touch, exobodies decades before the earliest possible missions to even the nearest stars, such as Proxima Centauri.”
This led to multiple proposals for missions that could rendezvous with future ISOs that were spotted passing through our system. One such proposal was Project Lyra, which researchers from the i4is shared in a 2017 study (with support from Asteroid Initiatives LLC). There’s also the ESA’s Comet Interceptor mission, which they plan to launch in 2029 to rendezvous with a long-period comet.

“We started working on potential missions to interstellar objects in 2017, right after the discovery of ‘Oumuamua and we initially rather focused on chasing that specific object, in contrast to Seligman & Laughlin, who focused on ISOs that might be discovered in the future,” said Eubanks. “The Comet Interceptor mission would fall into a similar category (build-and-wait).”
Given that ISOs formed in another star system, the opportunity to study them up close would offer scientists insight into the conditions that are present there. In fact, the study of ISOs is the next best thing to sending interstellar probes to neighboring star systems. Of course, any such mission entails a lot of technical challenges, not to mention the need for advance warning. As Eubanks explained:
“There are two basic types of missions here – plan and wait, or launch and wait, missions, such as the ESA Comet Interceptor, and chase missions, such as would be needed to reach 1I/’Oumuamua. It is very unlikely that any chase missions will be able to rendezvous with a retreating ISO – these will almost certainly be restricted to fast flybys. Rendezvous missions, missions to match velocities and orbit or land the ISO, will need advance warning.”
To illustrate, when astronomers first became aware of ‘Oumuamua, it was only after the object had already made its closest approach to the Sun (aka. perihelion passage) and made a close pass by Earth. Because of this, observers had only 11 days to conduct observations as it made its way out of the Solar System and was beyond the reach of their instruments.

In the case of 2I/Borisov, amateur astronomer and telescope-maker Gennadiy Borisov caught sight of it on August 30th, 2019, roughly three months before it reached perihelion (December 8th, 2019). But for future missions to rendezvous with them, it is imperative to know as much as possible about how often ISOs arrive and how fast they are traveling when they do.
For the sake of their study, Eubanks and his colleagues sought to place better constraints on these two variables. To do this, they began by taking into account how an interstellar object’s velocity is influenced by the local standard of rest (LSR) – the mean motion of stars, gas, and dust in the Milky Way in the vicinity of the Sun:
“We assume that ISOs come from or are formed with stars and their planetary systems, and that after they are on their own they share the same galactic dynamics as stars do. We use the two known ISOs, 1I/’Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov, and the efficiency of past and current astronomical surveys to estimate the number of these objects in the galaxy, and stellar velocity estimates from the Gaia mission to estimate the velocity spread we should expect.”
What they found was that in an average year, the Solar System would be visited by up to 7 ISOs that are asteroid-like. Meanwhile, objects like 2I/Borisov (comets) would be rarer, appearing around once every 10 to 20 years. They further found that many of these objects would be moving at velocities greater that of ‘Oumuamua – which was moving at over 26 km/s before and after picking up a boost from the Sun.

Knowing these parameters will help scientists prepare for possible rendezvous missions with ISOs, something which Eubanks and his colleagues covered in more detail in a previous study – “Interstellar Now! Missions to Explore Nearby Interstellar Objects.” As Universe Today reported at the time of its release, the study addressed a wider range of potential ISOs and the feasibility of reaching them.
In the meantime, this latest study provides basic information that will support the planning and implementation of these missions. In addition to Project Lyra and the ESA’s Comet Interceptor, there are numerous proposals for spacecraft that could rendezvous with interstellar objects (or even make the interstellar journey themselves).
These include Project Dragonfly, a small spacecraft and laser sail that was the subject of a conceptual design study hosted by the Initiative for Interstellar Studies (i4iS) in 2013. Another is Breakthrough Starshot, a concept put forward by Yuri Milner and Breakthrough Initiatives that also calls for a tiny spacecraft to be sent to Alpha Centauri using a lightsail and a powerful laser array.
This proposal has been articulated in recent years by Prof. Abraham Loeb and Prof. Manasvi Lingam. Whereas Leob is the founder of the ITC and Chair of the Starshot Advisory Committee, Lingham is a longtime researcher with the ITC and a co-author on the “Interstellar Now!” and this latest paper. In addition to going interstellar, these concepts have been proposed as a possible way of “chasing objects” that enter our Solar System.
One way or another, we will be peaking at other star systems soon! And knowing how to intercept and study the objects they periodically kick our way is a good way to start!
