Just a few weeks ago I was contacted by a Los Angeles-based painter named Jo. She is intrigued by the Men in Black phenomenon, as well as the issue of the Black Eyed Children. Jo has an interesting (intriguing, even) theory concerning why the MIB, the BEC, and the Women in Black, seem to spend a great deal of their time trying to get into our homes, and engaging us in conversation – albeit in almost creepy ways. Jo explained to me that she has read all of my own MIB-themed books, as well as the books written on the Men in Black by Jim Keith, Albert Bender, Gray Barker, and Tim Beckley. As well as David Weatherly’s book on the Black Eyed Children. Me and Jo chatted for the best part of about two hours – and we needed that much time, too, such was the extent of Jo’s overall theory. In essence, it goes as follows: Jo (who has not had a BEC or an MIB/WIB encounter, I should stress) started by stating that most people who have a UFO encounter usually see something strange in the sky. Others have alien abduction experiences or Contactee-driven incidents. And that’s true, they do. Jo, however, is far more intrigued by a scenario that isn’t exactly completely new, but that is often reported. It’s well worth taking a look at.

Jo notes one particular thing that puts the Black Eyed Children – and the Men in Black and Women in Black, too – in a category very different to those of the black-eyed Grays and the Reptilians. Namely, that apart from a few differences, the WIB, the MIB and the BEC look a lot like us. Yes, sometimes the skin looks a bit weird: it seems to be overly smooth and line-free. Also on the matter of the skin, it’s often very pale. In other words, if you happened to see them in the evening (which, notably, is when most of these things tend to surface and lurk around) you might actually not notice their differences to ours. Jo takes things to another level. She believes (or, rather, she suspects) that the aliens are working on a program of what can only be termed infiltration. By that, she means the infiltration of us, the human race. And, eventually, to a worldwide level.

As Jo says, it’s all but impossible to infiltrate any aspect of our society when we’re talking about the likes of the aforementioned Reptilians and the Grays. Neither group could ever be mistaken for us, the human race. But, something that is superficially like us – and wearing the likes of pulled-down black fedoras, black wigs, black hoodies, sunglasses and make-up – just might be able to get away with it. Jo suggests that this may very well be why the WIB, the MIB and the BEC engage us in conversation. Jo ponders on a theory that I hadn’t thought about too much previously. She suspects that, by talking with us, these creepy creatures are trying to see how easy (or how difficult) it is for them to move among us and not be noticed. If they are able to speak with us and without causing any problems for them, then perhaps the aliens are doing a good job of infiltration. If, however, their words and appearances terrify us, then it’s clear that the human-like ETs have not yet managed to successfully camouflage themselves to the desired degree. Of course, there’s another angle that Jo left until the last: if there is some degree of careful infiltration of us, then what kind of agenda is at its heart? A friendly but subtle one? Or, in a worst case scenario, is it a sinister, dangerous agenda? They are both questions that we should ponder upon.

Alien encounters can truly run a wide range, from the almost believable to the outright absurd, and sometimes these encounters can happen to otherwise sane and upstanding witnesses. In some cases even the most upstanding and believable of witnesses have come forward with accounts that seem to veer right off into the outer edges of the fringe, and one of these must certainly be the time a British councilman reportedly came face to face with UFOs and an alien ballerina.

In 2004, an orthopedic technician and the future local Councilor for Winchester in Hampshire, England, a Mr. Adrian Hicks had just had lunch at a local bar in the town center, after which he went to a bookstore to pick up some books. It was just a normal Saturday afternoon in the city’s busy High Street district, and as Hicks walked along, he noticed a woman who caught his attention for reasons he could not at first understand. The lady was certainly a very pretty young blonde, but he would insist that this was not what had drawn his eyes to her. He would claim that she was dressed rather unusually in a white ballet outfit complete with a tutu, and she supposedly had a walk “like a penguin,” as well as oversized, oval shaped eyes. There was something about her that didn’t add up, the way she moved and some unidentifiable quality that convinced Hicks that she was perhaps not human. He would say:

I was near The Works bookshop when I saw this strange woman, a humanoid walking with a penguin-like gait. She had very large prominent eyes and was twirling her hands in a circular motion. She seemed friendly and totally at ease with us. She wasn’t scared, she was smiling, and seemed to be enjoying herself among us. She walked very slowly up the High Street. I remember she was very interested in the clock over Lloyds Bank. She was taking it all in. She was human enough to get away with it. Everybody’s heads were turning. It was staggering – I am not usually lost for words but I was that day. I know what human limbs look like – I set broken bones. Clearly she was not human- you could tell by the way her limbs moved. Her eyes, which were slightly pinky, were twice the size of human eyes. I know it all sounds so bizarre – especially her ballerina type dress. You couldn’t make it up could you? Her clothes were outrageous – maybe they are some kind of national dress of where she comes from. I was very confused and shocked. I was going to say ‘excuse me, you’re not from around here?’ but I thought it best to leave her alone. I think we have established contact, because I have seen this ‘being’ in the High Street. Other people will have seen her. I would like them to come forward. This was definitely a close encounter of the first kind.

He would keep his sighting quiet for the next several years, as he did not want to ruin his election chances, but he finally came forward with it in 2009. Not only that, he would state that he believed that the mysterious woman was only one part of a greater alien presence in the area, all somehow linked to the nearby Chilcomb military base. Indeed, he would say that he had seen several UFOs around and above Chilcomb military firing ranges, and he was so obsessed with the “alien woman” that he even spent £400 out of his own pocket to have an artist make an impression of the humanoid. He has also gone on to become a staunch advocate of government disclosure on UFOs, and he has even go as far as to say that it is for this reason that he had decided to go into politics in the first place. He has gone on and on in posts and videos about an organization called Majestic, which is supposedly a sort of shadowy joint U.S. and U.K. group dedicated to suppressing the UFO and alien phenomenon. He has said that this group has covered-up the many UFO sightings he claims have happened around Winchester, and has explained of this and of the organization:

Majestic’s success in protecting mankind from the shock that we are far from alone in the universe has been completely successful. For the past 60 years the subject has been shrouded in secrecy. The magnificent job they have done in keeping from us, the ordinary citizens, that we are not alone, is in itself a truly remarkable achievement. An organization that started small but is now colossal, its dilemma is when to formally announce that extra-terrestrial contact has been established. There’s obviously some connection between the military and the UFOs. There are those that know what’s going on but my point is that it’s time the people were told what’s happening.

Amazingly, there have been others who have come forward with their own weird UFO experiences in the area since Hicks told his bizarre story. One Bernadette Ludlow would write a letter to the Hampshire Chronicle who claims that this has been going on around Winchester for decades. She writes:

SIR — I read with great interest your recent articles about Cllr Adrian Hicks and his revelation about bumping into an extraterrestrial walking up the High Street in 2004. Your article about this incident is most revealing, and what Cllr Hicks has said to the press should most certainly be listened to. Why, you may ask? The answer is simple. This is not the first time this has happened here in Winchester at all. It happened in 1976 and 1977, starting with one evening in November 1976. Joyce Bowles and Ted Pratt had an amazing encounter with aliens after the car they were travelling in shuddered to a halt on the Chilcombe Road outside Winchester. This was reported by the Daily Mail at that time, also that there were eight other sightings of glowing cigar shaped UFOs in the Winchester area that weekend. Both Joyce Bowles and Ted Pratt had other similar experiences on March 7, 1977, and again in June 1977. All were reported in the local and national press and all were in and around the Chilcombe area near Winchester. I think Cllr Hicks is a very brave person to come out with his amazing encounter with one of our visitors. Clearly there is something going on in the Chilcombe military range area that has great significance for us all.

1977 was apparently a pretty weird year for Winchester, as there were also countless reports at the time of residents picking up strange transmissions and voices over their TV sets at the time. Another witness claims to have seen UFOs around the Chilcomb Military Base as well back in the 60s, and also claims to have heard the otherworldly TV transmissions in 1977. The witness has said on the site collinandrews:

Regarding UFO activity at the Chilcomb Military Base and referred to by Councillor Adrian Hicks on this website, I witnessed a rocket type object glowing and with a flaming tail as it moved slowly horizontally across the top of the hill, from east to west and just below the Morestead road that runs over the hill. This was at about 2.0 am one night during 1960 while I was looking out from a high level ward in Winchester Hospital. There was no sound that I could hear from there.  This was before the construction of the M3 motorway which is there now. I was in the same hospital where Mr. Hicks works which is on high ground with good views to its south and east.

The strange voice heard by thousands of people in 1977, was also heard by me. Like Colin Andrews we both lived in Andover, 14 miles north of Winchester, and like him I also heard the voice as it broke into a news program I was watching. The picture broke up first as the sound of the voice came up louder and took over. A few weeks later I heard on the news that it was said that some students cut into the underground cables to the transmitter and used the transmitter to send it out. My father was a radio ham at the time and he said not only would they have needed a lot of power but that the power that would be running along the cable, they would have had to have some BIG crocodile clips to clip onto the cable or get fried.

There have even been a few scattered people who have claimed over the years to have seen the same alien woman who Hicks claims to have seen. One of these was a caller to an episode of Coast to Coast AM in 2009, who claimed that he had encountered the same mystery woman and that she had asked him how to operate a car with an automatic transmission. The woman was described as wearing the same ballerina outfit, and having very large, oval shaped eyes. What is going on here? Is there anything to all of this? While there indeed have been quite a few UFO sightings documented from the Winchester area, we are left to wonder whether Hicks really did see that strange woman, and if she was really an alien or just a really strange lady. Whatever the case may be, it is certainly a wild story all the same, made even more so by the fact that it has been given by someone in a position to be traditionally considered to be a reliable witness.

Back in 2005 I wrote a book titled Body Snatchers in the Desert. There was a sequel from me in 2017: The Roswell UFO Conspiracy. Both books focused on the failure of a number of top secret balloon-based experiments in the summer of 1947 – and all in New Mexico. Some of those balloons were huge and based on Japanese plans. Not only that, some of the Japanese scientists involved were secretly brought to the United States (in a similar fashion to Operation Paperclip that secretly brought Nazi scientists to the United States in the post-Second World War period). Most of the experiments failed miserably. One of those same failed experiments became known – decades later – as “the Roswell incident.” Prisoners and handicapped people were used in the grim, nightmarish tests. And not a single extraterrestrial was ever to be seen. With that all said, let’s take a close and careful look at what was really going on in New Mexico in ’47 and how it all became intertwined with the legend of a certain, famous “crashed UFO.”

During the latter stages of the Second World War, the Japanese military was working to perfect highly advanced balloons as weapons of war – to the extent that on 4 June 1945, a Japanese military spokesman states that the launches of its “Balloon Bombs” of the previous few months were merely precursors for something far more dangerous, including large-scale attacks with Japanese personnel manning the balloons. The new balloons, American experts estimated, would be at least sixty feet in diameter and would be able to carry a pressurized gondola containing four relatively small men to a significant height, as the balloons traveled upon their stratospheric flights across the Pacific to the United States. Similarly, declassified FBI, CIA, Air Force and British Government papers reveal that in the same time frame, the Germans were actively pursuing several new and novel aviation-based projects, including the construction of circular and elliptical shaped aircraft – a number of which are based upon the work of the Horten brothers. One of the most revealing document is a U.K. government file titled “Unconventional Aircraft.”

In addition, extensive wartime research was conducted by (A) the Japanese Government’s utterly deranged, evil Unit 731 and (B) Nazi scum involved in the extremely controversial area of human medical experimentation. A large body of that same experimentation was devoted to better understanding the effects of high-altitude exposure on human beings. At the close of hostilities, scientific, aviation and medical experts from Japan and Germany were secretly brought to the United States – where human experimentation and advanced aircraft research continues unabated and under the strictest security. As President Clinton’s Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments noted: At least 1,600 scientists and their dependents were recruited and brought to the United States by Paperclip and its successor projects through the early 1970s. The ACHRE also noted with respect to the time period in question that a number of potentially important collections could not be located and were evidently lost or destroyed. Similarly, the Committee revealed, a number of those same document collections related to experiments undertaken in the fields of biomedicine, defense and space exploration; and in the great majority of these cases only fragmentary data remained. Where programs were legitimately kept secret for national security reasons, states the Committee, the government often did not create or maintain adequate records, thereby preventing the public, and those most at risk, from learning the facts in a timely and complete fashion.

In the aftermath of the War, a number of military research sites recruited Paperclip scientists with backgrounds in aero-medicine, radiobiology and ophthalmology, including the Air Force’s School of Aviation Medicine, from where experiments into total-body irradiation, space medicine, space biology and flash-blindness were undertaken; and the White Sands Proving Ground became home to the V2 rockets developed by – and captured from – Nazi Germany during the War. In addition, at the same time that the Paperclip personnel were actively being brought to the United States, the Air Force’s Aero Medical Center gave its top priority to the translation of manuscripts providing a complete picture of German aviation medicine. Further advances were made in the field of aviation in post-war America: on 26 May 1946, the Air Force awards to the Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation a contract that establishes Fairchild as the responsible agency of the NEPA nuclear aircraft project; and the Holloman Balloon Branch, Holloman AFB, New Mexico, eventually went on to become a recognized component of the space-race, via its involvement in the Discoverer program. Crucially, the National Archives and Records Administration at Maryland made available a document concerning the early years of research at White Sands and Holloman: Little information was available on specific events with regard to range safety during this period, it was revealed. And on 1 July 1947, Major Curtis E. LeMay, Major General, U.S. Army, Deputy Chief of Air Staff for Research and Development, ordered that research into the biological effects of radiation on Japanese individuals should begin.

In the summer of 1947 and against this backdrop of (A) nuclear and biological tests on human subjects; (B) revolutionary aircraft and balloon programs; and (C) an influx of scientific, medical and aviation experts into the United States from Japan and Germany, a series of events and accidents occurred in New Mexico that collectively become known as the Roswell incident. Witnesses at several crash sites reported seeing the remains of unusual-looking aircraft and small bodies, some with enlarged, bald heads and that could have “passed for Chinese.” On 19 August 1947, FBI Special Agent S. W. Reynolds informs Bureau director, J. Edgar Hoover, that in a meeting with an Air Force colonel, the colonel expressed his firm belief that the flying discs originated with a highly classified experiment of the Army or Navy. In the immediate wake of the Roswell affair, Dr. Lincoln La Paz of the University of New Mexico – and a wartime expert on Japanese balloons – became deeply embroiled in the Roswell controversy; the ramifications of the Nuremberg Code begin to reverberate and rumble within the United States; and, as the 3 November 1947 issue of the Biology Division Bulletin of the Clinton National Laboratory reveals, staff at Oak Ridge (home of the nuclear aircraft program) took an active interest in experimentation undertaken to determine the effect of radioactive iodine on dwarfs and those with Progeria – a condition that results in a small stature and an enlarged, bald head.

And, as a result of all the above combined, the now-famous legend of a crashed UFO was born in New Mexico in the summer of 1947.

A couple of days ago, I wrote an article here at Mysterious Universe on the Second World War-era controversy surrounding Shingle Street. It’s a small village in Suffolk, England that has a high degree of notoriety attached to it. Stephanie Cross at Country File Magazine says of this strange affair: “In May 1940, when a German invasion was thought to be imminent, the civilian population of Shingle Street was evacuated and minefields laid on the beach. And it was then that the rumours began: that a small German invasion force had landed at Shingle Street, a battle had broken out as defenders beat the invaders back to the water, and that the Germans had been burned alive with oil and petrol pumped on to the surface of the sea using special pipelines. Rumours of German invasion were rife along the south and east coast in the war, but such was the pitch of speculation on this incident that it led to questions in the House of Commons and, in 1993, the early release of classified documents. These revealed the ‘invasion’ was just a rumour – although the bodies of four dead German airmen had washed up on the beach, after their plane crashed into the North Sea.”

There’s another reason why I make mention of Shingle Street today. Specifically, it’s the location of the village. You’ll soon see what I mean. Ether Wave Propaganda says: “The Committee for the Scientific Survey of Air Defence (CSSAD, a.k.a. the ‘Tizard Committee’) was instituted by the British Air Ministry in late 1934 to consider new technologies that the Royal Air Force might use to defend its territory against attack by bombers. The committee was initially comprised of its chair, scientist and longstanding government research administrator and Imperial College rector Sir Henry Tizard, the Air Ministry’s Director of Scientific Research Harry Wimperis, academic experimental physicist Patrick Blackett, Nobel Prize-winning physiologist A. V. Hill (who had been the head of a World War I research group responsible for improving anti-aircraft gunnery), and Wimperis’ assistant A. P. Rowe, who served as secretary.”

Moving on: Pan Macmillan provides the following words: “In 1936 Winston Churchill asked the physicist Sir Robert Watson-Watt to develop a ‘death beam’ or a ‘magic eye’ to counter the growing threat of German airborne aggression. Under the cloak of utmost secrecy, he and a small team of brilliant scientists moved into the manor. Stables and outbuildings were converted into workshops and the first receiver and transmitter towers were built. Just eighteen months later, RAF Bawdsey became the first fully operational radar station in the world.”

Now, there’s something called Cobra Mist, of which Wikimapia states: “Cobra Mist was the codename for an Anglo-American experimental over-the-horizon radar station at Orford Ness, Suffolk, England. It was known technically as AN/FPS-95, and sometimes referred to as System 441a, a reference to the project as a whole. The project was plagued by noise problems that could not be identified, and the project was shut down in 1973. The site and buildings are now occupied by a BBC broadcast transmitter.” Now, we come to an even more controversial story.

From the early 1970s to the early 1990s, more than a few employees of Marconi were found dead under dubious and disturbing ways. One of them was Jonathan Wash. At the time of his death, Wash was working for British Telecom – that had deep connections to Marconi. In 1985, Wash died after falling, or having been pushed, from a window in a hotel room in Ivory Coast, West Africa. It’s notable that Wash had suspicions leading up to his death that he was being spied on: watched and followed in a clandestine way. He shared his concerns with his family and friends, but it was all too late. Notably, the British Telecom facility that Wash worked at was a top secret research facility at Martlesham Heath, Suffolk. So, with all of the above stated, you may be wondering what the connection is between the Shingle Street controversy, the top secret Tizard Committee, the equally highly classified Cobra Mist project, and Marconi. Well, here’s the answer:

Geographically speaking, let me put all of the above into a shocking perspective for you: the distance from Martlesham Heath to Rendlesham Forest is only 11.3 miles. The journey from Shingle Street to the forest is, at its shortest, only 7.6 miles. A trip from those infamous woods to Bawdsey amounts to less than ten miles. How far might Orford Ness be from Rendlesham Forest? I’ll tell you: just 7.1 miles. In my book, The Rendlesham Forest UFO Conspiracy, I suggest that the famous series of events of December 1980 had nothing to do with aliens, but everything to do with secret military/government experiments involving holograms. As all of the above makes very clear, the whole area surrounding Rendlesham Forest has been steeped in ongoing secrecy since the 1930s. So, we’re talking about almost a century of classified activity. I suggest – given the close proximity to the forest and the extensive top secret programs that we know existed in the area – that the 1980 “UFO landing” was just yet another military experiment, and not a UFO event.
