The serendipitous arrival of a Cthulhic Elder God from the deep abyss of darkspace would be evidence
(AFP)
Studies suggesting that the humble octopus might be from outer space have seized the attention of would-be xenobiologists.
Articles in mainstream media publications such as The Australian, citing a review of older research, have rekindled a decades-old theory that octopuses (or octopi or octopodes, depending on your linguistic mood) might be extraterrestrial in origin.
This has led commentators to slap their metaphorical foreheads — of course! — and point to the marine animals’ eight limbs, strange intelligence, Wolverine-ish regenerative abilities and weird Predator-like camouflage capabilities as attributes that should in retrospect have been dead giveaways.
The review itself, published in the apparently respectable journal Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology, summarises years of scientific speculation that alien retroviruses may have hitchhiked from their hypothetical home planets across the vast chasm of space, hidden in the ice of a visiting comet.
Upon entering Earth’s environment, the theory goes, these viruses would have proceeded to infect unsuspecting native organisms with extraterrestrial DNA, diverting their evolutionary path to produce cephalopods like squid and octopus.
Some of the more ebullient studies under review go a step further, suggesting that the unexpected flying octopuses arrived fully formed, genetically speaking, as frozen eggs that then hatched on our planet.
And now, just as they did 12 years ago (the last time the extraterrestrial octopus theory grabbed this many headlines), mildly harassed-sounding “establishment” scientists are being hounded for their take.
And they are sceptical at best.
Speaking to Quartz on the matter, virologist Karin Moelling, of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Genetics in Berlin, generously conceded that the Progress article was worth thinking about, but “the main statement about viruses, microbes and even animals coming to us from space cannot be taken seriously”.
But let us take it seriously anyway!
Let us entertain the notion — if only for a moment — that cephalopods may be from space. How would we go about testing the hypothesis? Why, we would need to look for evidence.
The serendipitous arrival of a Cthulhic Elder God from the deep abyss of darkspace would be evidence enough. But we could not count on that, nor would we want to, if only because it would require dictionaries to come up with a new definition for “serendipitous”.
No, it would be more reasonable to simply visit a comet to look for evidence of an octopus. Fossils, perhaps. Traces of octopodal DNA, maybe. Predictions from the 2010 World Cup, definitely. Calamarian glyphs spelling out the phrase, “It’s a trap!”
That sort of thing.
In fact, finding anything at all that doesn’t fall under the broad category of “lump of rock” would be legitimate cause for scientific ululation.
Getting to our comet would be tricky. But not that much of a trick. We’re sending all sorts of things into space these days, after all. Relaunchable rockets. The second-hand tjorries of former Pretoria Boys’ High pupils. That Richard bloke who owns the gym down the road from you. And we have, after all, landed on comets before. (Well. On a comet.) So answers to the Great Octopus Question of 2018 are indeed within our grasp.
The real question is how badly humanity needs these answers.
They do say that forewarned is forearmed. But eight-armed is another story entirely.

WHY CAN’T WE REMEMBER OUR DREAMS?
WHY CAN’T WE REMEMBER OUR DREAMS?
You spend a third of your life asleep, a good chunk of which involves dreaming. But most often, you don’t remember any of your dreams. And even on those lucky days when you wake up with a memory of the dream still floating in your mind, there’s a good chance that in just a minute the memory will vanish into thin air and back to dreamland.
In waking life, such a case of quickly forgetting recent experiences would surely land you in a doctor’s office. With dreams, however, forgetting is normal. Why?
“We have a tendency to immediately forget dreams, and it’s likely that people who rarely report dreams are just forgetting them more easily,” said Thomas Andrillon, a neuroscientist at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. It might be hard to believe that you had a dream if you don’t remember anything, but studies consistently show that even people who haven’t recalled a single dream in decades or even their entire lifetime, do, in fact, recall them if they are awakened at the right moment, Andrillon said.
While the exact reason is not fully known, scientists have gained some insight into memory processes during sleep, leading to several ideas that may explain our peculiar forgetfulness.
You are awake, but is your hippocampus? When we fall asleep, not all the brain’s regions go offline at the same time, according to a 2011 study in the journal Neuron. Researchers have found one of the last regions to go to sleep is the hippocampus, a curved structure that sits inside each brain hemisphere and is critical for moving information from short-term memory into long-term memory.
If the hippocampus is the last to go to sleep, it could very well be the last to wake up, Andrillon said. “So, you could have this window where you wake up with a dream in your short-term memory, but since the hippocampus is not fully awake yet, your brain is not able to keep that memory,” Andrillon told Live Science.
While this might explain why dream memories are so fleeting, it doesn’t mean that your hippocampus has been inactive throughout the night. In fact, this region is quite active during sleep, and appears to be storing and caring for existing memories to consolidate them, instead of listening for incoming new experiences.
“Some data shows that [during some sleep stages] the hippocampus is sending information to the cortex, but not receiving any,” Andrillon said. “This unidirectional communication would allow sending memories from the hippocampus to the brain’s cortex for long-term storage, but new information wouldn’t be registered by the hippocampus.”
Upon awakening, the brain may need at least 2 minutes to jump-start its memory-encoding abilities. In a 2017 study published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, researchers in France monitored sleep patterns in 18 people who reported remembering their dreams almost every day, and 18 others who rarely remembered their dreams. The team found that compared with low-dream recallers, high recallers woke up more frequently during the night. These middle-of-the-night awakenings lasted an average of 2 minutes for high recallers, whereas low-recallers’ awakenings lasted for an average of 1 minute.
Neurochemical soup Our poor ability to encode new memories during sleep is also linked to changes in the levels of two neurotransmitters, acetylcholine and noradrenaline, which are especially important for retaining memories. When we fall asleep, acetylcholine and noradrenaline drop dramatically.
Then, something strange happens as we enter the rapid eye movement (REM) stage of sleep, where the most vivid dreams occur. In this stage, acetylcholine returns to wakefulness levels, but noradrenaline stays low.
Scientists have yet to work out this puzzle, but some suggest that this particular combination of neurotransmitters might be the reason we forget our dreams. The boost in acetylcholine puts the cortex in an aroused state similar to wakefulness, while low noradrenaline reduces our ability to recall our mental escapades during this time, according to a 2017 study in the journal Behavioral and Brain Sciences.
Sometimes your dreams are just not memorable Do you remember what you were thinking about this morning when brushing your teeth? Our minds wander all the time, but we discard most of those thoughts as nonessential information. Dreams, especially mundane ones, may be just like daydreaming thoughts and deemed by the brain to be too useless to remember, the late dream researcher Ernest Hartmann, who was a professor of psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine, wrote in Scientific American.
But dreams that are more vivid, emotional and coherent seem to be better remembered — perhaps because they trigger more awakening, and their organized narrative makes them easier to store, Andrillon said.
If you are intent on improving your dream recall, there are a few tricks to try. Robert Stickgold, an associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, suggests drinking water before bed, because it will make you wake up at night to use the bathroom. These “middle-of-the-night awakenings are frequently accompanied by dream recall,” Stickgold told The New York Times.
Once in bed, repeatedly reminding yourself that you want to remember your dreams may increase your chances, and so does keeping a dream journal, some studies have suggested. Upon waking up, hang on to that fragile dream memory: Keep your eyes closed, stay still and replay the dream memory, until your hippocampus catches up and properly stores the memory.
On May 24, my anonymous source, JP, who has provided dozens of photos of different types of craft belonging to a United States Air Force (USAF) secret space program says he encountered a human looking “Nordic” extraterrestrial. He claims the Nordic was wearing a USAF uniform and invited him to go for a ride in a landed saucer-shaped craft in a secluded wooded area of Orlando, Florida.
JP declined the offer but took photos of the spacecraft after it departed (attached below). His recollection of the conversation with the Nordic reveals that they are directly cooperating with the USAF and abiding by the terms of an agreement concerning their interaction with the general public.
What follows is the Skype conversation I had with JP along with some commentary. I have created a page where earlier articles and videos featuring his photos, along with originals, can be found for independent analysis.
The conversation began at 10:32 Eastern Daylight Time. I have removed grammatical errors and added extra text in square brackets to clarify what JP is saying:
JP: 9am. Nice contact today.
Michael Salla: What happened?
JP: I went Into the Woods. I was hearing a ringing in my ear. I’m thinking it was like a calling. Like I got from the last Contact. I met up with this man. Wearing a United States Air Force suit. Dark blue. His face was different. Possibly a Nordic.
JP: Light blue eyes, blond hair, wearing a United States Air Force Jumpsuit. He was really kind. He said a lot of these craft are going to be seen all over. He invited me to go to the craft. I said no. Yes [he asked] me again if I was sure….
JP: I told him that we’re gonna start needing video evidence. He told me [that] because [of] a deal they have with the United States and other countries, they can’t.
This is consistent with what contactees such as George Adamski, Howard Menger and others have said about human looking extraterrestrials they each helped blend into local communities to evade recognition by the general public, and even national authorities.
It’s worth noting that the current Russian Prime Minister, Dimitry Medvedev, revealed in December 2012 that when he became President, he was given a highly classified file about how Russian and global authorities register and track extraterrestrials secretly living among the human population.
This all suggests that secret agreements have indeed been reached between public authorities and Nordic extraterrestrials, where any kind of video recording of their existence is not allowed by those they contacted.
I return now to my skype conversation with JP where I queried him on his decision not to accept the Nordic offer to go into his craft:
Michael Salla: Surprised you said no. Did you get a bad feeling at any point?
JP: No, I actually felt happiness, but I was kind of mad because of not getting video.
Michael Salla: Hmmm, would you have been allowed to take photos?
JP: He told me. This kind of ship gonna be seen all over. After he talked to me. He touched me. I had a Flash that I was inside the ship. Floating around. It was a split second. Then he told me you’re back.
Here, JP is suggesting that the “Nordic” had arranged for him to view the interior of the craft without physically going inside. Perhaps astral projection or some other kind of non-physical encounter had occurred.
JP then goes on to ask about the cooperation between the Nordics and the USAF:
JP: I ask him what’s going on with you guys and the United States Air Force. He told me that they’re working on a big project together. A couple of projects in the Gulf of Mexico Involving a couple of MacDill Air Force personnel.
Michael Salla: Why was he wearing a US Air Force uniform?
JP: All these sonic booms are part of the project that they’re doing
Michael Salla: Did it have the USAF Special Operations patch?
In earlier incidents, JP has described being taken on board rectangle shaped spacecraft where he saw occupants in USAF uniforms with the patch of Air Force Special Operations. The incidents occurred next to MacDill Air Force Base, home of US Special Operations Command.
JP said the patch worn by the Nordic was different and contained symbols of a star and crescent.
He later explained to me that the uniform itself featured the acronym, USAF, with the acronym also spelled out in a foreign language he did not immediately recognize, but after he did some internet research he found it appeared to be ancient Sumerian. Apparently, this enabled the Nordic to walk undisturbed inside USAF bases:
JP: Another type of space insignia.
Michael Salla: What made you think it was a USAF uniform and not a Nordic uniform?
JP: To camouflage [himself] in the [USAF] base when they’re walking. It [the patch] had United States Air Force.
Michael Salla: Did he tell you he walks around on USAF bases, MacDill?
JP: … Yes, in other bases around the world
Michael Salla: That makes sense. Did he say how long his group has been working with the USAF in joint projects? When did it start?
JP: We never got far in that conversation. I’m thinking a long time Michael. When he left… I ran to my truck.
Michael Salla: Was the conversation done in English or telepathically?
JP: English. European type. Like people talk in England. The perfect English. Not American.
Michael Salla: Were you able to take any photos?
JP: Yes.
JP said that he was able to take photos of the craft once it took off, but not while it was on the ground. The original photos of the departing craft are located below. The following video contains all the photos he sent, along with zooms of two of the photos.
JP says that while the craft was on the ground, he was about 25 meters from it, but his cell phone didn’t work. He estimated the size of the craft to be about 20 meters in diameter, and it had three window panes which he could see through.
I next asked JP about what the Nordic had told him of the cooperation with the USAF:
Michael Salla: What kind of projects were the Nordics working on with the USAF?
JP: Training how to maneuver the ships. Invasive maneuvers all around United States, in Europe, in Middle East, Russia, Asia.
Michael Salla: The Nordics were teaching the USAF invasive maneuvers? Can you explain more?
JP How another craft chasing another craft. Is not the same as a jet chasing a jet.
Michael Salla: Were the Nordics sharing technology with the USAF or just know how?
JP: The United States Air Force has the technology but does not know how to correctly use it. Is [like] the comparison of dropping a smartphone to an Indian in the Amazon. The Indian would not know how to charge [the] phone, will not know how to search through …
So basically they’re teaching the technology the physics. When to use the weapons because the weapons sometimes affect the ability of the craft when it’s flying.
The weapon that the craft has is a pulsing weapon energy superheated. Beams of light Radioactive, how to interact with thunderstorms to conserve and gain energy.
It’s worth pointing out here that based on the testimonies of William Tompkins, Corey Goodeand many others, that the US military industrial complex needed to work with German scientists after World War II, to learn about the technology of crashed extraterrestrial spacecraft that had been recovered from Roswell and elsewhere. I discuss this in detail in my latest book, Antarctica’s Hidden History: Corporate Foundations of Secret Space Programs.
Based on JP’s testimony, the USAF in particular is still in need of assistance to understand Nordic extraterrestrial technology, which is more advanced than the recovered spacecraft belonging to small Gray extraterrestrials whose bodies have often been found inside the crashed vehicles.
It’s worth noting that in previous incidents involving his sightings of USAF aerospace vehicles and Nordic spacecraft, he has been prompted by covert operatives to look in the direction of the craft. This suggests that he is part of a sanctioned disclosure initiative where he is being helped in revealing the existence of an Air Force Secret space program, and their alliance with a human looking group of Nordic extraterrestrials.
JP has said on previous occasions that he has been told that he is not allowed to take videos of the craft, but that photos are OK. He says that when he tries to take videos of the spacecraft he is witnessing, his cell phone stops operating.
I have known JP since 2008 and believe he is accurately revealing events as they have occurred. The photographs provide hard evidence that the incredible events he has witnessed are genuine.

NASA is to send a HELICOPTER to Mars.
The venture, the first time such an aircraft will be used on another world, is part of the US space agency’s 2020 mission to place a next-generation rover on the Red Planet’s surface.
The remote-controlled Mars Helicopter is designed to take flight in the thin Martian atmosphere with twin counter-rotating blades.
It weighs about four pounds (1.8 kilograms), with a fuselage the size of a softball, NASA said.
Its blades will spin at almost 3,000 rpm, roughly 10 times the rate employed by helicopters on Earth.

Mimi Aung, the Mars Helicopter project manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said: “The altitude record for a helicopter flying here on Earth is about 40,000ft (12,200m).
“The atmosphere of Mars is only one percent that of Earth, so when our helicopter is on the Martian surface, it’s already at the Earth equivalent of 100,000ft (30,480m) up.”
NASA officials said the rotorcraft will reach the Red Planet’s surface attached to the car-sized rover.

After placing the helicopter on the ground, the rover will be directed to drive to a safe distance to relay commands.
Controllers on Earth will command the helicopter to take its first autonomous flight after its batteries are charged and tests are conducted, NASA said.
NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said: “The idea of a helicopter flying the skies of another planet is thrilling.”
The helicopter is intended to demonstrate the viability and usefulness of such aircraft on Mars, NASA said, with potential roles as a low-flying scout or to reach locations inaccessible from the ground.
NASA unveiled designs of its new Mars Rover which will embark on a mission to find signs of life on the planet in 2020 (Image: PA)
NASA said it plans a 30-day flight test period that will include up to five flights, starting with a short vertical jaunt to hover for about 30 seconds at an altitude of 10ft (3m) and progressing to flight distances up to a few hundred yards and durations up to 90 seconds.
The helicopter contains solar cells to charge its lithium-ion batteries and a heating mechanism to keep it warm during frigid nights.
The Mars 2020 rover mission is scheduled to launch in July 2020 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida and reach Mars in February 2021.
The rover is designed to carry out geological studies and ascertain the habitability of the Martian environment, NASA said.
NOBEL PRIZE WINNER AND CO-FOUNDER OF DNA MOLECULE CLAIMS OUR GENES HAVE EXTRATERRESTRIAL ORIGIN
NOBEL PRIZE WINNER AND CO-FOUNDER OF DNA MOLECULE CLAIMS OUR GENES HAVE EXTRATERRESTRIAL ORIGIN
Francis Crick was a prominent English scientist who co-founded the structure of the DNA molecule in 1953. He was awarded a Nobel Prize for Physiology for Medicine. Given his book, Life Itself, we realize he claimed the DNA molecule couldn’t have generated here on Earth.
Crick was one of the many brilliant scientists to whom the media, unfortunately, didn’t pay much attention. The reason for that was that he was theorizing something that confronted the dominant framework.
In his 1982’s book, Life Itself, he discusses how the DNA molecule couldn’t have origin here on Earth but rather somewhere else.
The prevailing scientific thought is that we appeared when a cluster of molecules randomly crashed into each other, generating life.
However, in the opinion of Mr. Crick, we are an outcome of so-called Directed Panspermia. He and Leslie Orgel, a British chemist, published their theory in 1973.
Their paper talks about how “organisms were deliberately transmitted to earth by intelligent beings on another planet. We conclude that it is possible that life reached the earth in this way, but that the scientific evidence is inadequate at the present time to say anything about the probability. We draw attention to the kinds of evidence that might throw additional light on the topic.”(Source)
Concerning the mainstream theory we previously mentioned, Crick’s opinion is that it’s most likely not reliable.
On the other hand, concerning his theory, he has quite many supporters who have claimed they found evidence to justify it. Maybe even he, himself, had evidence he never presented. After all, he was not just anybody on the street a hungry imaginative mind. He was a scientist who won a Nobel Prize on the DNA molecule subject.
However, we haven’t yet found the complete biological functions of the total DNA. This means the whole concept carries a lot of mystery. Mystery that might has the answer to the human’s real origin.
A couple of years ago, the Director of the Buckingham Centre for Astrobiology at the University of Buckingham, Chandra Wickramasinghe, released a study. The object of research involved supposed discoveries of the first evidence of extraterrestrial life in a celestial body.
Wickramasinghe called the attention with the Huffington Post in 1962:
“Hoyle and I, pioneers the theory of carbon grains in space to replace the old ice grain theory. This was vehemently resisted by the astronomical community at the outset, but with the dawn of infrared spectroscopy, the ice grain theory gave way to the carbon dust theory. Over a few years, after a great deal of model-fitting, we came to the conclusion that material similar to biomaterial fitted all the available data in astronomy. We considered the possibility that microbiology had a universal character, and no observations in astronomy or new information from biology has d contrary evidence. If only ideas that are considered orthodox are given support through award of publication opportunities, it is certain that the progress of science will be stifled as it was throughout the middle age.”

“There are no aliens, no alien abductions and no alien cattle mutilations”, said William “Bill” Cooper, author of BEHOLD A PALE HORSE
“There are no aliens, no alien abductions and no alien cattle mutilations”, said William “Bill” Cooper, author of BEHOLD A PALE HORSE
“There are no aliens, no alien abductions and no alien cattle mutilations”, said the late William “Bill” Cooper, author of BEHOLD A PALE HORSE in this important 1999 interview:
Just around the time when he wrote his book BEHOLD A PALE HORSE, Bill Cooper began to depart from “ufology” and was also beginning to hypothesize that “UFOs” had nothing to do with “aliens” but was a manipulation of the government to bring about fear to create a one-world government.
Cooper began to admit that he most likely had been shown disinformation by the government while he was in military service. On this point, I truly commended Cooper for his admission.
Cooper began to state that he was no longer a “ufologist”. It was Cooper who coined the term “ufoology” and I also commended him for it.
I basically agree with Bill Cooper on many of the things he said about UFOs and Aliens.
There is no evidence whatsoever (so far) that there are sentient, physical extraterrestrial biological entities commonly known as Aliens.
UFOs do not represent any conclusive evidence whatsoever of physical ET visitations.
The above all refer to physical reality as we know it.
(However, some say that there could be more to reality than just purely physical reality in this mysterious universe……I couldn’t agree more. This falls in the realm of religious or spiritual beliefs of each person. I do not discount the religious concept of the existence of paraphysical entities, both benevolent or malevolent in nature. Some claim that malevolent, fallen paraphysical entities, also described as “demonic”, could be materializing and de-materializing at will, posing as physical aliens to pre-selected observers and could be deceiving many.)
P.S.
Bill Cooper was also a troubled individual, deep inside. There was a dark side to his complex personality – – he was extremely short-tempered and had a problem with alcoholism. When he first started giving lectures at UFO meetings and conferences (beginning in 1989), he insisted that one day he had witnessed a sub-merged disc-shaped object rising out of the sea while on a Navy ship during the time he was in military service. This claim has never been collaborated by any other witness except himself. But he had already included this story in the book. I am not saying that he did not see the disc-shaped object. He could have seen it. The bottom line is that by the time he wrote his book, he had long come to the conclusion that all UFOs are man-made objects created by the government.
However, I disagree with his views that all UFOs are man-made objects.
I also do not agree with Bill Cooper that the government has built man-made UFOs in places like Groom Lake/Area 51

The world is full of unanswered questions. And while it’s alright to admit if you don’t have an answer, the questions still need to be asked.
At least that was the consensus of experts and attendees at Contact in the Desert, an annual conference devoted to all things extraterrestrial. Hundreds of people gathered in at the Renaissance Resort and Spa in Indian Wells over the weekend, bound together by the belief that there’s something more to our world and the universe than many people realize or believe.
The meeting, normally held in nearby Joshua Tree—an altogether more eclectic town than Indian Wells—was moved to the resort because the increasing number of attendees were looking for a little more luxury than they were finding in the high desert, organizers told The Desert Sun before the event.
While the subject of aliens, specifically contact with extraterrestrials and their presence on earth, has often drawn mocking and charges of pseudoscience, Contact in the Desert featured a lineup that boasted PhDs, a former congressman, a Naval pilot, a man who researched UFOs for the British government and a former NASA employee who worked on the Apollo moon missions, among others.

Conference-goers were treated to lectures and workshops on everything from UFO sightings, crop circles, the influence of aliens on ancient human societies and the relationship between military forces and extraterrestrial beings.
One of Sunday’s featured speakers, Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, famous for being the guy with the wild hair on the History Channel program “Ancient Aliens,” spoke about what he said were examples of the contact between ancient peoples of Earth and extraterrestrial beings.
He also cleared up some burning questions. Yes, aliens need space suits. YouTube is no longer a bearer of truth. No, the Earth is not flat.
“If the alien guy says that the Earth is round, trust me, it’s round,” Tsoukalos said.
In his two-hour talk, he stressed his belief that technological developments brought to ancient people by aliens have been misrepresented as those ancient peoples’ belief in magic or spirituality, and he was dismissive of many modern scientists, “gods” and religion.

Zoe Meyers/The Desert Sun
“The reason that we’re in the crap that we’re in today is because of misunderstood technology,” he said. “The reason we have religions today is because of misunderstood visits of extraterrestrials.”
However, he did make the point that extraterrestrials, and those who believe in their existence, can still be spiritual and “wonder about God and who she is.”

Tsoukalos’ discussion, and the entire theory of ancient aliens, boils down to one thing: misunderstood technology. He said examples of ancient technology, including the pyramids in Giza or Central America, and ancient art and literature pointed to signs of alien contact with Earth-dwellers and their sharing technology with less advanced societies.
He read from ancient texts to illustrate his point, including a 12th century Sanskrit manuscript, which had a passage that appeared to describe seeing an airplane fly overhead, hearing the sound and seeing the contrails. He also showed examples of artwork or sculptures that depicted airplanes or beings in spacesuits.

Tsoukalos said that while some archaeologists and historians were doing great work, they often dismissed artwork depicting possible extraterrestrials as being beliefs in gods or magic or depictions of animals, which he said was an insult to the intelligence of older civilizations. He also said many failed to dig deeper and ask questions about how ancient sites that required tools for construction came to be and why.
“We, people like us, are at least entertaining the question ‘where did it all come from?’,” he said to those attending his talk.
Eventually, he speculated, humans would become the deep space explorers, and share agriculture and engineering with alien societies less technologically advanced than those on Earth.
A line from early on in Tsoukalos’ workshop summed up the message of Contact in the Desert. He told the crowd that there were more galaxies in the universe than grains of sand on all the beaches on Earth.
“And you have to ask yourself in that scenario, are we the only ones out there? No.”

Overgedragen
Ga onmiddellijk terug”.
Tja, en daar had het monster natuurlijk niet van terug, zodat hij tot de dag van vandaag waarschijnlijk maar besloten heeft om onder water te blijven.
Of the many and various UFO / extraterrestrial-themed documents and papers that have surfaced under the terms of the U.S. Freedom of Information Act, one of the more interesting ones is Communication with Extraterrestrial Intelligence. It was written back in the 1960s (specifically in 1965) by a man named Lambros D. Callimahos. He was a cryptologist with the National Security Agency. On September 23, 1965, Callimahos took part in a panel-style debate on the subject of his paper at a conference on military electronics in Washington, D.C.
Also present for the debate was Dr. John C. Lilly, perhaps best known for his work with dolphins and in the fields of psychedelics and altered states. Others included an astronomer, Francis S.J. Heyden. The American Astronomical Society note of Heyden: ” Heyden’s earliest research was performed in the fields of galactic structure and variable stars. He collaborated. with Fr. L.C. McHugh S.J. in photographing star fields in the Southern Milky Way. These images were combined into an Atlas, which has become a basic reference tool for students of galactic structure.” And there was a noted linguist too, Dr. Paul Garvin. The event was moderated by a Dr. Harold Wooster, at the time the Director of Information Services of the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
Callimahos’ words make for intriguing reading: “We are not alone in the universe. A few years ago, this notion seemed farfetched; today, the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence is taken for granted by most scientists. Sir Bernard Lovell, one of the world’s leading radio astronomers, has calculated that, even allowing for a margin of error of 5000 per cent, there must be in our own galaxy about 100 million stars which have planets of the right chemistry, dimensions, and temperature to support organic evolution.”
He continued: “If we consider that our own galaxy, the Milky Way, is but one of at least a billion other galaxies similar to ours in the observable universe, the number of stars that could support some form of life is, to reach a word, astronomical. As to advanced (by miserable earth standards) forms of life, Dr. Frank D. Drake of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Green Bank, West Virginia, has stated that, putting all our knowledge together, the number of civilizations which could have arisen by now is about one billion. The next question is, “Where is everybody?”
Callimahos added: “The nearest neighbor to our solar system is Alpha Centauri, only 4.3 light years away; but, according to Dr. Su-Shu Huang of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, its planetary system is probably too young for the emergence of life. Two other heavenly friends, Epsilon Eridani and Tau Ceti, about 11 light years away, are stronger contenders for harboring life.”
He expanded, in somewhat speculative fashion, but undeniably fascinating fashion too: “Nevertheless, if superior civilizations are abundant, the nearest would probably be at least 100 light years away; therefore, it would take 200 years for a reply to be forthcoming, a small matter of seven generations. This should, however, make little difference to us, in view of the enormous potential gain from our contact with a superior civilization.
“Unless we’re terribly conceited (a very unscientific demeanor), we must assume that the ‘others’ are far more advanced than we are. Even a 50-year gap would be tremendous; a 500 year gap staggers the imagination, and as for a 5000-year gap… (By the way, if they are as much as 50 years behind us, forget it!) It is quite possible that ‘others’ have satellite probes in space, retransmitting to ‘them’ anything that sounds non-random to the probe. But they have probably called us several thousand years ago, and are waiting for an answer; or worse yet, they have given up; or, more probably, they have reached such impressive technological advances that they have destroyed themselves.
Callimahos turned his attentions to the kind of work that was then in place to try and find evidence of alien life: “Epsilon Eridani and Tau Ceti were the targets on which Dr. [Frank] Drake [of SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence] focused his attention in the Spring on 1960 in Project Ozma, an attempt to detect possible intelligent signals from outer space. The frequency selected for listening was 1420.405752 megacycles per second, or a wave length of 21 cm.”
“This particular frequency, postulated independently by two professors on the faculty of Cornell University, Giuseppe Cocconi and Philip Morrison, happens to be the radiation frequency of atomic or free hydrogen which permeates space in great clouds; moreover, this frequency is within the range of radio frequencies able to pass through the earth’s atmosphere. Presumably, the significance of this frequency would be known to other intelligent beings in the universe who understand radio theory. We’re still talking about radio waves as the communication medium; other possible media might be masers, lasers, or the as yet undiscovered and unnamed ‘rasers.’ A technology superior to ours might even have learned how to modulate a beam of neutrinos (weightless, uncharged particles that physicists on earth find it difficult even to detect); if so, ‘they’ may have to wait a century or two before we learn how to build a neutrino receiver.”
I’ll close with these thought-provoking words from Callimahos: “…after we resolve our pressing scientific questions, it might be appropriate to make discreet inquiries as to how we could live in harmony and peace with our fellow man – that is if we aren’t eaten or otherwise ingested by the superior civilization that had the good fortune to contact us. But as far as the cryptologist is concerned, he (and generations of his descendants who might experience the supreme thrill of their lives when we hear from ‘them’) must keep a level head, not get excited, and be prepared to cope with problems the like of which he has never seen – out of this world, so to speak.”

Flying saucer FILMED over Victoria, Australia – May 2018
Check out this really interesting daytime footage of a flying disc over Hastings, Victoria, Australia. This was filmed in late May 2018.
What do you think about this footage? Real of CGI?
Witness report:
I dropped my mom to work that day. and On my way home saw this strange object flying in the sky. So I pulled over on the side of the road and took a video of it. Can anyone please tell me What is this? Thank you.
The good news unbeknownst to many is that much of the debunking criticism against the extraterrestrial hypothesis, ufology, exopolitics, experiencers, socially conscious insiders and/or whistleblowers can be considered as rationally flawed.
Institutional defenders of conventional, official truths have sometimes avoided the UFO question but have occasionally misrepresented facts. For example, as physicist Stanton Friedman often points out, the Secretary of the Air Force D. Quarles said to reporters that no flying saucer had flown over the U.S.; that only 3% of reports received by Project Blue Book remained “unknown”and that eventually even that percentage would be identified as conventional phenomena or illusions. But in, truth, the percentage of overall “unknowns” which had been presented earlier inside the Air Force by Project Blue Book’s Special Report number 14 had been 21.5%. Furthermore, if the witnesses level of education was greater and the case provided greater details, the percentage of “unknowns” went up to 30%. Moreover, a chi square analysis performed by Battelle Memorial Institute comparing “unknowns” with the “knowns” (or clearly identified objects) gave a probability of less than 1% that the “unknowns” would simply be misperceptions or mistakes. Therefore, there was at least a truly puzzling phenomenon taking place (in fact worldwide) even though it was being publicly dismissed while secretly reported in a completely different manner.
An accumulation of observations is important and an accumulation of analyzed witness testimonies does not have to be a form of weak or irrelevant evidence in the natural sciences. Inductive reasoning is most fundamental to the advancement of SCIENCE because experience is what brings in data and information that requires new explanations. New scientifically designed, international, anonymous surveys with a larger, anonymous population like that conducted by F.R.E.E. (the Edgar Mitchell Foundation for Research into Extraterrestrial and Extraordinary Encounters (www.experiencer.org)) provide statistical patterns that increase the gravitas of testimonial evidence. It is unreasonable to simply think that thousands of witnesses are lying or definitely mistaken in their observations although they are willing to anonymously answer hundreds of questions. There is a place for human testimony, not only in the social sciences and in a court of law but also in the natural sciences. In part it depends on how scientifically that testimony is acquired and treated. This statistical quantitative and qualitative data (which in some important aspects contradicts popular notions about extraterrestrials) must be taken into account.
Science advances when theories adapt to evidence and experience and theories should not be considered final but, rather, well-organized, temporary and probable explanations that best explain phenomena and data accumulating through experience. Taken as well-organized explanations – hopefully with predictive power – theories must evolve as new data and experiences are registered and accepted. However, oftentimes, the acceptance of data and phenomena is precluded by biases and there often are sociological and psychological reasons to unscientifically reject phenomena that don’t fit in well with accepted theory.
It is becoming clear that we only perceive a limited segment of reality. There may well be ‘laws of physics’, inter-reality processes and types of energies that contend with phenomena not currently accepted by mainstream science, an endeavor still excessively biased toward representing all experienced reality as based upon materialism and mechanicism. This occurs in spite of alternative implications from quantum physics regarding the “de-materialization” of matter and the inseparable role of choice, consciousness and the observer affecting what seems to be a non-local, information substratum.
Status quo power networks traditionally reject new perceptions of reality both when new instruments extend human detection and decoding capacities (remember Galileo’s telescope and Van Leewenhoek’s use of the microscope) and when theories and underlying worldviews need to be modified to account for those detections. But this holding on at all costs to a classical preference for exclusivist materialism and mechanicism lends itself to the fallacy of trying to explain all phenomena under specific and previously accepted ad hoc explanations. Regardless of how thoroughly the scientific method has been followed, this often means trying to explain some phenomena which MAY be conventionally explained as if it necessarily follows that their explanation MUST be conventional. This is also popularly also called “dogmatism.”
But it is becoming quite acceptable for educated individuals to recognize that there indeed is an abundance of recurrent phenomena (“anomalies” from the perspective of conventional theories) unremittingly reported by credible individuals and groups around the world; phenomena which – if seriously considered – bring into question the completeness of classical materialist and mechanicist explanations. Furthermore, individuals not intimately associated with any of the major modern institutions often have the willingness and freedom to openly consider these phenomena real and significant. Some even know that their formal acceptance would logically require re-assessing known theories and suggesting alternative scientific hypotheses. Some are – thankfully – taking the lead to make this happen.
Baye’s Theorem helps us ASSESS the probability that a hypothesis among others is valid based on new experience. In the XXVIII Century Reverend Thomas Bayes tried to show how to use new evidence to update beliefs. It goes hand in hand with induction and not with a rigid, unequivocal logical deduction. Through induction, we approximately “know” that it is more likely that Earth will continue turning and that tomorrow there’ll be another sunrise, but we don’t know this with absolute certainty. Like the so-called “principle of parsimony” (or “Occam’s Razor”) Baye’s Theorem is more like a “heuristic,”which can be understood as a generalrule of thumb helping us to assess the validity or usefulness of a hypothesis. Both are “shortcuts” simply assisting us to come up with probable explanations. However, if we apply them mechanically based on wrong premises about reality they may even sidetrack us into not recognizing more feasible and obvious explanations.
Baye’s Theorem requires having several hypotheses at hand in order to compare them. It is structured to help us come up with an approximate probability and it states that The Probability of an Hypothesis Explaining the New Results= The Probability of Obtaining the New Results if the Hypothesis is True ÷ The Probability of Getting the New Results Whether the Hypothesis is True or Not. Then, multiply that division by The Probability of the Hypothesis Before Considering the New Results.
Just like Baye’s Theorem is a practical recommendation attempting to approximately give us a clue on the probability of the validity of an hypothesis by also considering several competing hypotheses in light of new information regarding phenomena, “Occam’s Razor” is not like a physical principle or a principle set in stone as an unfailing rule. The latter (re-stated by several philosophers following Aristotelian thinking but also more associated with theologian, nominalist philosopher and Franciscan friar William of Occam) basically states: “entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity.” To my understanding, this means that when an explanation is sufficient to explain a phenomenon, it is not recommended to seek a greater number of alternative explanations. However, in the case of phenomena challenging conventional explanations, the question would also be if all possible “sufficient explanations” rest upon a classical materialist-mechanicist worldview or, in effect, that the most straightforward and sufficient explanation would be a hypothesis that better fits or corresponds with the facts, however challenging.
Another way of stating “Occam’s Razor” is that it is generally preferable not to assume more hypothesis as causes than the minimum necessary to explain a phenomenon. Said differently, trying to extend the materialist and mechanicist worldviews (and paradigms) in convoluted ways in order to reductionistically explain (or to explain away) the experiential facts and “anomalous” data gathered around the UFO Phenomenon, may actually be not following Aristotle’s and Occam’s recommendation but instead doing just the opposite. While exclusivist materialism is clearly incorrect and insufficient, materialism in itself may be correct but only as an integral part of a network of metaphysical positions, each explaining “reality” from a different angle and all of them arising from a deeper pattern. We will need to understand that “deeper pattern” in order to make sense of phenomena that objectively combine subjective and psychic aspects altering conventional physical life.
Once again, these “heuristics” are basically recommendations generally useful on how to proceed to choose among various hypotheses that might explain a phenomenon. Moreover, unfortunately “Occam’s Razor” has often been misunderstood by closed-minded skeptics (normally defending conventional theories associated with materialism and mechanicism) in their blindly dogmatic search for every which way to ridicule or dismiss evidence pointing toward the “extraterrestrial hypothesis” (or variations within that hypothesis) pertaining to some of the most ‘anomalous’ aspects of the UFO phenomenon.
There’s still another recommendation that can be considered as a useful heuristic. It is the advice to avoid Type Two Errors. In statistics, a null hypothesis is a hypothesis one tries to cancel out by using evidence to the contrary. In statistical hypothesis testing, a Type II Error (or Error of the Second Kind) is the failure to reject a FALSE null hypothesis. In other words, it is a failure to detect some aspect of reality that is suggested by the statistical evidence. This becomes a useful heuristic to think about any accepted percentage of truly unconventional UFO cases.
The concept that “UFO’s are nothing but natural phenomena or phenomena that can be explained by conventional science” would be a false null hypothesis that has not been invalidated based on the best UFO evidence and statistics. This is because the evidence and statistics clearly also suggest that something truly distinct and quite possibly anomalous is going on. Fixated UFO debunkers (and debunkers of the reasonable likelihood of there being genuine “experiencers” interacting with a variety of intelligent extraterrestrial beings which may be able to manipulate spacetime in unconventional ways) are clearly committing a Type Two Error or Error of the Second Kind.
The relevant and scientifically honest (and highly relevant for humanity) situation here is that the “extraterrestrial hypothesis” or ETH (ifnot limited to a “nuts & bolts” approach) may well be the MOST STRAIGHTFORWARD HYPOTHESIS OR EXPLANATION. In general this hypothesis is not discarded within some foreign governments and Air Force teams researching “Unidentified Aerial Phenomena” or “Anomalous Aerial Phenomena” (like the Chilean CEFAA or Committee for the Studies of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena functioning under the General Secretary of the DGCA (the Ministerial Department of Civil Aeronautics), itself under the jurisdiction of the Chilean Air Force).
The initial (often not quoted) step in the “scientific method” is observation of a phenomenon in the natural world. While individual testimony of an anomaly in a non-controlled setting may be considered a weak piece of evidence, the fact that thousands upon thousands (including some astronomers) have observed and reported UFOs that resist conventional explanations can be considered part of the initial step. Today, besides these individual testimonies (given to civilian and military institutions) there have been a few scientifically conducted surveys (like the anonymous international survey Edgar Mitchell Foundation for Research on Extraterrestrial and Extraordinary Encounters). As witness testimony goes, the latter is stronger from a natural science point of view. However, besides witness testimony, after-the-event analysis of photographs, radar cases, landing traces with soil modification and other forms of “physical evidence” also accumulate in favor of the “Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (ETH).”
The ETH hypothesis is neither discarded beforehand (for instance by introducing pre-conceived conclusions into the premises) by the high-level military and scientific French GEIPAN (Study Group and Information on Non-Identified Aerospace Phenomenon) analysts working under the jurisdiction of CNES (the National Center for Space Studies) who in 1999 produced the so-called “COMETAReport.” Likewise, this reasonable hypothesis is endorsed by the “Sigma/3AF Commission” of the Aeronautical & Astronomical Association of France. In fact, given the evidence available, the ETH cannot be reasonably discarded in advance without incurring dishonesty. Sigma/3AF considers the ETH valid and plausible. They are scientists and are being reasonable – rather than dogmatic – based on a rational analysis of UAP/UFO cases.
Moreover, it might be possible to improve “after-the-fact ufology” by propitiating field experiments that interact with the phenomenon. If consciousness (besides objectivity) is a key ingredient for their success, so be it. The science-based ufologist expanding his or her methods would learn to work with this.
Interactive field experiments using instruments and live empirical observation to test hypothesis might be achievable with the assistance of CE-5 approaches, “prime contactees,” adequate preparation, equanimity and fearlessness and – above all – a respectful attitude of any intelligences behind the phenomenon as well as experiencer-contact processes that involve consciousness, group effort, feelings and ideologies. Through this “experimental ufology” we may complete the steps of the scientific method pursuant genuine UFOs: Observation of a phenomenon, gathering information about what is known about it, proposing a reasonable hypothesis to explain the phenomenon, testing the hypothesis, analyzing the results, concluding if they verify the hypothesis or not, sharing the method, results, and conclusions with other scientists, replicating the research and – eventually – modifying theory.
Humanity needs its academic, religious and political leaders to come to terms with the fact that the ETH is a reasonable and rational perspective backed-up by the finest inductively-derived, independently assessed and cross-tabulated evidence gathered by sincere, mentally sound, capable and reputable UFO researchers across several decades; by some courageous and honest scientists, a good number of political, military and intelligence community whistleblowers and witnesses and by thousands of individuals from around the world (individuals who for the most part don’t do it for personal gain but who, instead, oftentimes face ridicule from peers in the name of truth).
This evidence also includes, highly trained witnesses capable of recognizing a variety of flying objects, alleged landings leaving anomalous and analyzed physical signatures, clear visual, radar and radar-visual sightings, military intercept missions; photographic and film analyses passing adequate tests, the analysis of a few solid objects with highly anomalous characteristics (such as those which podiatric surgeon Roger K. Leir collected from alleged abductee-experiencers) and leaked or formerly classified government documents that indicate longstanding, official interest in “flying discs,” “flying saucers” or “UFO anomalies.”
Moreover, after thousands upon thousands of psychologically healthy and socially functional “citizen-experiencers” reporting intelligent physical interactions with otherworldly extraterrestrial beings; after metallic-looking disc-shaped, triangular-shaped, sphere-shaped and tubular-shaped objects have been reported zigzagging and departing in abrupt ways defying momentum and inertia (sometimes after apparently interacting with witnesses for instance by responding with right-angle formations) the lack of formal academic investigation onto what may be going on (at least from a social and psychological perspective) is a failure against modern, humanistic, democratic and scientific ideals.
It simply looks as if FEAR and personal convenience got the upper hand in the innards of modern academic and political institutions since facing the facts would probably challenge the premises those institutions are based in and thus internal social forces arise to prevent individuals from stepping out of line. To this we must add possible private interests to take advantage of technological developments besides the national security need to maintain a possible advanced technology out of reach from enemies; something which can be overdone and – once a vast secret apparatus around this issues has been established – it becomes increasingly difficult to eventually inform civilians as time passes by. Perhaps many unconstitutional actions were taken throughout the decades at least since 1947, especially if taboo, ridicule and a highly classified secrecy did not allow for the application of constitutional supervision or checks and balances.
Nonetheless, theforces of social control (among them ridicule), or even active repression and suppression cannot forever hold back the truth in order to sustain the status quo or an outmoded way of thinking, especially if the intermittent and phenomenon were to be interactive and clearly related with human interests.
In relation to UFOs, for the Principle of Parsimony (a.k.a. “Occam’s Razor”) multiplying explanations to uphold the materialist-mechanicist premises may not be the way to arrive at a “sufficient explanation.” Then, Baye’s Theorem asks us to compare several hypotheses and not to discard any plausible one offhand. Finally, the advice to avoid Type Two Errorsor Errors of the Second Kind (the failure to detect some aspect of reality which is suggested by the statistical evidence) also reminds us to become aware of our blinding cognitive biases when the evidence is displayed before us within a complex phenomenon. I wonder how many “Close Encounters of the Second Kind” interesting pieces of unique evidence (as described by J. Allen Hynek’s six-fold classification scale for UFO encounters) have been so dismissed…
All of these HEURISTICS basically warn us against inflexibly holding on to our conventional ‘pet’ theories. In relation to truly anomalous UFOs and in the offing human-extraterrestrial interactive encounters we seriously need to change our premises and face the facts.
To conclude, the three heuristics mentioned are not inimical with the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (ETH) and, what is more, an intelligent use of them clearly suggests that the ETH MUST be seriously considered. It is a matter of time before good old common sense prevails as the need to adapt to reality has the real final say with its own complex (emergent and self-organizing) ways to assert itself.
What effect would Alien disclosure have on you personally?
What effect would Alien disclosure have on you personally?
Being told very simple organisms or bacteria have been found under the surface of mars or europa's ice is one thing , now being told a mile long object has entered our solar system and is stationary behind our moon is another . I'm fairly confident life in basic forms could be present elsewhere , I've no proof of this, it's just my own humble opinion.
If we were told by NASA or ? that very basic life had been discovered and this is the proof that was always needed . Personally i would be both happy and relieved, the thought of being just a series of freak occurrences always filled me with dread . Life for me wouldn' change though , I'd still work /pay taxes and see out my days with family .
Now if NASA or ? told us the mile long object is still behind the moon and have no idea what it is or what's it's purpose , now that would be different altogether . I think fear of the unknown and the fact whoever /whatever has brought this object into our solar system must be a lot more advanced than us .
To be honest , this would change my life a lot,
Could i continue my daily routine while knowing what's above us ? My mind would be racing going through the different possibilities , worried about the outcome of both our actions and theirs . All them films I've watched from an early age , the huge motherships hovering over the cities , the panic , the running , and the screaming , no wonder I'm fearful of such things 😊
So for me , Alien disclosure would really depend on many things , I'm not religious so my faith in God wouldn't change , if it was basic life then good , if it was advanced or on a similar level too us then maybe not , but these are just my opinions , it's just something i find intereting and often think about , I'd love to read your posts and what effect this would have on you 👍

The Week's Top Space Stories
An observatory on Hawaii's Big Island filmed stars streaking over Kilauea's volcanic glow, space enthusiasts mourned the loss of two astronauts and researchers discovered exotic dunes on Pluto. These are just some of the top stories this week from Space.com.

1. Dunes in Pluto's heart
In a study published May 31, researchers announced the discovery of a dune system on the dwarf planet Pluto. The study team spotted ridges on Sputnik Planitia, the huge plain that makes up the left lobe of Pluto's famous "heart," thanks to imagery taken by NASA's New Horizons mission in July 2015. The features look similar to Earth dunes, but Pluto's aren't made of sand; the wind-blown grains are probably frozen methane.

5. Watch stars streak over volcanic glow
The Gemini Observatory sitting atop Hawaii's Mauna Kea peak captured the glow of the Kilauea volcano eruption the night of May 21 to May 22. Observatory team members released a stunning time-lapse video showcasing the sight, which emanated from the region where the eruption generated lava-releasing fissures.
In a statement issued after the May 24 signing of Space Policy Directive 2, the Commerce Department released plans to combine several existing offices into a "one-stop shop" called the SPACE (Space Policy Advancing Commercial Enterprise) Administration. A former government official commented that the move, while welcomed by some, might not be sufficient to address bigger coordination issues surrounding space activities.
Researchers discuss the physical and moral challenges of human reproduction on Mars in a new paper published in the June issue of the journal Futures. The authors discussed ethically debatable solutions to family planning and medical safety and even touched on the possibility of genetic engineering so the off-Earth population could acquire traits more favorable for survival on their adopted world.

8. Virtual tour of black hole swarm
A monster black hole called Sagittarius A* lies at the heart of the Milky Way, and NASA has released a new virtual tour of its cosmic vicinity. The tour features the swarm of thousands of black holes that scientists discovered last month around Sagittarius A*.
NASA intends to buy rides on small commercial lunar landers by the end of the year. NASA's deputy associate administrator for the Space Technology Mission Directorate, speaking on May 24 at the Space Tech Expo, said there's "a strong push" to get a lunar lander service going as soon as possible. The agency will probably conduct its own lander studies as well.
10. China, UN invite research proposals for Chinese space station
On May 28, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and China's Manned Space Agency announced they are now accepting applications to conduct experiments on China's space station, which the nation aims to have up and running by 2022. The initiative invites organizations from United Nations Member States to apply, and UN officials said they especially encourage proposals from institutions in developing countries.
These days on Hawaii's Big Island, there's plenty going on above the surface to keep a host of scientists occupied, due to Kilauea's month-long and sometimes rapidly changing eruption. But soon, there will be a few more scientists focused on the island—although they'll be looking to understand a much more alien phenomenon than lava.
NASA scientists are spending research seasons this year and next piloting a submersible vessel off the coast of the Big Island to explore Lo'ihi, the still-underwater volcano that will thousands of years from now become the newest island in the Hawaiian chain.
They hope the life they find there will help them learn what to look for in a similar but much less accessible environment—like that trapped under the icy surface of Saturn's moon Enceladus. It's one of astrobiologists' most intriguing candidates for finding life beyond Earth.
Although scientists studied the moon in a fair amount of detail with the Cassini mission that ended last fall, it will be quite a while before they'll get another chance to look at Enceladus up close.
Saturn's moon Enceladus is covered by an icy shell that hides a global ocean that could hold life.
NASA/JPL-CALTECH/SPACE SCIENCE INSTITUTE
The soonest such a mission could launch is the mid 2020s, and that doesn't even include travel time. It's a long time to sit around dreaming of distant microbiology.
So in the meantime, scientists are headed to Hawaii with a NASA project called Systematic Underwater Biogeochemical Science and Exploration Analog or SUBSEA. The project will let the scientists send a robotic drone to explore hot springs bubbling up about 3,000 feet below the ocean's surface.
In particular, they want to better understand temperature and pressure conditions found around these springs. They'll also look at which microbes are present and how they come together to build communities.
The project has a second goal as well: to help scientists practice working far away from their experiments, as they do with robots working on the Moon and Mars. So next year, to spice things up a little, NASA will artificially lag communication to and from the submersible while it works at a second destination.
That way, when a real Enceladus mission comes along, scientists will be ready to tackle whatever mysteries the moon throws at them.

After the Russian boy who claimed to have born on Mars in his previous birth, another teenager has emerged as the new sensation among UFO buffs and alien enthusiasts. Haruya Ido, the teenage Japanese boy is now rechristened as the 'UFO boy' in the country as people are literally mesmerized by his psychic abilities.
It was the popular UFO researcher Toshitaro Yamaguchi who initially identified the mettle of Ido. In a recent talk with the Japanese media, Toshitaro Yamaguchi revealed that Ido has that extra-sensory skills to communicate with UFOs via telepathy. As per Yamaguchi, Ido can clearly access the course of UFOs and he can also take photographs of these alleged alien crafts.
To substantiate his claims, Yamaguchi also released four images of UFOs which are apparently taken by Ido from various locations in Japan over the last one year. In all the four images, we can see bizarre objects hovering across the skies of Japan.
The veteran UFO researcher also added that Ido has the peculiar ability to do Shamanism, a practice that involves the practitioner exploring the subconscious mind and interact with the spiritual world. Experts say that a person who practices Shamanism can easily transcend energies from the spiritual world to our material world.
In Japan, Shamanism is part of the indigenous Ainu religion and Japanese religion of Shinto.
As Yamaguchi's claims went viral, conspiracy theory YouTube channel 'UFOmania' uploaded a video about Ido. The video soon went viral, and it has already racked up more than 4,100 views on YouTube.
After watching the video, viewers started speculating various explanations to define the extrasensory abilities of Ido.
A YouTube user named 'Sonicbios' claimed that Ido might be an alien hybrid, and his peculiar genetic traits might be helping him to communicate with unidentified flying objects.
"He is communicating with demons manifesting as fake aliens, that's all it is," commented 'End of Times Preparation', another YouTube user.

Tyler Glockner, a conspiracy theorist who runs a YouTube channel has uploaded a bizarre video showing a disc-shaped flying object apparently flying above the skies of Victoria, Australia. Interestingly, the sighting happened nearer to a military base, similar to such sightings reported near US and UK military areas.
The bizarre sighting was originally captured by Junelyn Bitalacm who noticed the strange disc-shaped object in the sky when she was driving back after dropping her mom off at work. Seeing the weird nature of the unidentified flying object, she soon took her smartphone and recorded the object.
After capturing the video, she shared it on her YouTube channel where it was viewed by more than 2,500 people. Picked up soon by 'Secureteam10', the video went viral registering more than 2,40,000 views.
Soon the enthusiasm among the viewers kicked off a debate over its military nature that could be a another black project, while UFO afficianados were quick to speculate its alien nature.
Most of the viewers who watched the video strongly argued that these disc-shaped objects are actually anti-gravity flying machines used for interstellar travel. They even claim that aliens might be controlling these spacecraft and the government may well be aware of their existence.
On the other hand, a section of other conspiracy theorists alleged that this spacecraft is a secret military vessel developed by the Australian government, just like the military craft TR-3B in the US.
However, some skeptics strongly speculated that the object purportedly found in the Australian sky could be a mere drone.
"Here in Australia, we refer to these objects as unmanned drones doing their testing and surveillance, much more activity around the Eastern coastlines from Victoria to the Cape in Queensland... Hopefully, we don't get a false flag invasion to depopulate," commented Blitzkrieg, a YouTube user.
Others said that no UFO will travel at such a low speed like the one spotted in the video.
NASA's SOFIA airborne observatory resumed science flights May 22 after a hiatus of more than six months caused by extended maintenance on the Boeing 747SP aircraft. Credit: NASA
WASHINGTON — A NASA airborne observatory that enjoys unusual protection from regular reviews resumed science flights recently after an extended maintenance period.
The Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) made its first science flight in more than half a year May 22, a 10-hour flight out of NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in California. SOFIA is scheduled to fly to New Zealand June 1 for a campaign of southern hemisphere observations.
The science flight was the first since late 2017 for the airborne observatory, a Boeing 747SP with a 2.5-meter infrared telescope. The plane flew to Germany in November 2017 for maintenance known in aviation as a “C-check” by Lufthansa Technik. That work was scheduled to be completed in January.
However, during that C-check, workers found a fuel leak in the aircraft where the outer left engine attaches to the wing. In addition to repairing that leak, Boeing directed Lufthansa Technik to inspect all four engine pylons for potential leaks, a process that took several more weeks. That work was finally completed in May, and SOFIA flew back to the United States May 18.
SOFIA provides a unique platform for performing infrared astronomy, flying above most of the infrared-absorbing water in the atmosphere while also accommodating multiple instruments that can be updated or replaced. However, SOFIA is among the most expensive astrophysics missions to operate, second only to the Hubble Space Telescope.
SOFIA, whose development dates back to the 1990s, is exempt from a process called senior reviews where the agency examines the status of science projects that have completed their prime missions to determine if proposed extensions should be funded. A provision in the report accompanying the omnibus spending bill for fiscal year 2018 prevents NASA from including the mission in the next astrophysics senior review in 2019.
Congress made that determination by declaring that SOFIA now has a prime mission of 20 years. “The agreement notes that SOFIA, which began its prime mission in 2014, has a prime mission lifetime of 20 years,” it states. The bill also provided SOFIA with $85.2 million, $5.3 million above the agency’s request.
A fiscal year 2019 spending bill approved by the House Appropriations Committee May 17 again provides $85.2 million for SOFIA, compared to a request of $74.6 million that declines to zero by 2022. NASA said in the request — released prior to the completion of the 2018 omnibus spending bill — that SOFIA would participate in the 2019 senior review. If it passed the review, NASA noted, it would budget funding for future years.
The new House report, though, reiterates that SOFIA is exempt from the next senior review. “The Committee is concerned with NASA’s proposed inclusion of SOFIA in the 2019 Senior Review, given it began its prime mission in 2014 and has 15 years of prime mission lifetime remaining,” it states. “Accordingly, the Committee directs NASA to only undertake a Senior Review of SOFIA at the time SOFIA completes its planned mission lifetime.”
That language has puzzled many in the astronomy community, who note that SOFIA will not have to participate in a senior review until at least 2034. Most other NASA missions, by comparison, have far shorter prime missions, such as five years for the James Webb Space Telescope.
SOFIA’s prime mission was also originally set for five years, and thus would have been part of the 2019 senior review prior to the congressional report language. A March 2017 presentation by Harold Yorke, director of SOFIA science mission operations, noted that five-year prime mission, but added there were plans to operate SOFIA out to 2034, including securing of spare parts from other Boeing 747SP aircraft.
However, agency officials said there will be other mechanisms other than the senior review process to monitor SOFIA’s effectiveness, such as program implementation reviews used by NASA programs in general. “One doesn’t go 20 years without reviewing a program, especially a program as complicated and as costly as SOFIA,” said Paul Hertz, director of NASA’s astrophysics division, during a March meeting of the National Academies’ Committee on Astronomy and Astrophysics.
BLOWING IN THE WIND This image from the New Horizons spacecraft’s 2015 flyby of Pluto shows dunes (center bottom and right) along a mountain range. The ripples are made of sand-sized grains of methane ice, researchers say.

Pluto’s heart-shaped plains are striped with sand dunes, where the sand is made of solid methane ice, a new study finds.
Images from the New Horizons spacecraft’s July 2015 flyby of Pluto show 357 linear ridges that planetary scientist Matt Telfer of the University of Plymouth in England and colleagues interpret as dunes that have been shaped by a novel process, the team reports in the June 1 Science.
The ripples lie parallel to the Al-Idrisi Montes mountain range at the western edge of Sputnik Planitia, the wide plains of nitrogen and methane ice that form part of Pluto’s famous heart-shaped region. Relatively strong winds, between about 1 and 10 meters per second, should blow from those mountains across the plains.
Computer simulations suggest that despite Pluto’s thin atmosphere, these winds are strong enough to keep sand-sized methane ice particles moving once they become airborne. But the winds are probably too weak to lift the grains off the ground in the first place.
Instead, little puffs of air coming from Sputnik Planitia’s nitrogen ice as the sun heats it could boost the methane ice particles skyward and into the wind, the team suggests. That process by which solids turn directly into vapor is called sublimation.
Wider context
Streaks that look like dunes (yellow arrow) were found in the northwest of a vast plain called Sputnik Planitia, and run parallel to the Al-Idrisi Montes mountain range. Winds blow across the range and help sculpt the features, which are made of solid methane ice, a new study proposes.
SWRI, JHU APPLIED PHYSICS LAB, NASA
“That’s a novel, interesting idea,” says planetary scientist Alexander Hayes of Cornell University who was not involved in the work, but wrote a commentary piece in the same issue of Science. But the notion raises a reason for caution: Sublimation alone could explain some of the features, without the need for wind, he says.
Dunes are found across the solar system, from Earth(SN: 12/26/15, p. 5) to Mars(SN Online: 2/10/10) to Saturn’s moon Titan(SN Online: 8/28/13). Each of these worlds has the ingredients for dunes: a supply of loose, grainy material and an atmosphere or fluid to carry grains around.
“When you look at dunes across the solar system, something that always strikes me is that they form the same patterns, regardless of the environment,” Hayes says. Finding dunes on Pluto, too, suggests that the features may be ubiquitous. “If you have the material and a way to move it, you form dunes. That’s what this is telling us.”

60 BILLION ALIEN PLANETS COULD SUPPORT LIFE, STUDY SUGGESTS
60 BILLION ALIEN PLANETS COULD SUPPORT LIFE, STUDY SUGGESTS
Though only about dozen potentially habitable exoplanets have been detected so far, scientists say the universe should be teeming with alien worlds that could support life. The Milky Way alone may host 60 billion such planets around faint red dwarf stars, a new estimate suggests.
Based on data from NASA’s planet-hunting Kepler spacecraft, scientists have predicted that there should be one Earth-size planet in the habitable zone of each red dwarf, the most common type of star. But a group of researchers has now doubled that estimate after considering how cloud cover might help an alien planet support life.
“Clouds cause warming, and they cause cooling on Earth,” study researcher Dorian Abbot, an assistant professor in geophysical sciences at the University of Chicago, said in a statement. “They reflect sunlight to cool things off, and they absorb infrared radiation from the surface to make a greenhouse effect. That’s part of what keeps the planet warm enough to sustain life.”
The habitable zone is defined as the region where a planet has the right temperature to keep liquid water on its surface, thought to be a requirement for life as we know it. If a planet is too far from its star, its water freezes; too close, water vaporizes. Since red dwarfs are dimmer and cooler than our sun, their habitable zone is much cozier than our solar system’s.
“If you’re orbiting around a low-mass or dwarf star, you have to orbit about once a month, once every two months to receive the same amount of sunlight that we receive from the sun,” explained another study author, Nicolas Cowan, a postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University.
With such a snug orbit, a habitable planet around a red dwarf would become tidally locked, meaning it would always have one side facing its star, much like the moon faces Earth. This side would see eternal daylight.
In the new study, the researchers used 3D simulations to model the way air and moisture would move over a planet tidally locked around a red dwarf. The team found that any surface water would result in water clouds. What’s more, highly reflective clouds would build at the point of the star-facing side where it’s always high noon. This would have a cooling effect in the inner ring of the habitable zone, meaning the planets there would be able to sustain water on their surfaces much closer to their star, the researchers say.
The findings could give scientists a new way to confirm the presence of liquid water on the surface of alien planets with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), a new space-based observatory scheduled for launch in 2018, the researchers say.
“If you look at Brazil or Indonesia with an infrared telescope from space, it can look cold, and that’s because you’re seeing the cloud deck,” Cowan said. “The cloud deck is at high altitude, and it’s extremely cold up there.”
The same could be true of a habitable exoplanet with a highly reflective cloud cover, the researchers say. If JWST detects a similar cold signal over the dayside of an alien world, Abbot said, “it’s almost definitely from clouds, and it’s a confirmation that you do have surface liquid water.” The research was detailed June 27 in the journal Astrophysical Journal Letters.
