Scientists Say Aliens Could Try And Hack Us By Sending Malicious Messages To Earth

A recently published study looks into the potential threats of receiving an alien message from the stars. Scientists say how the contents of a potential alien message could be malicious in nature, resulting in many problems for our civilization.

The research suggests how humanity could protect itself against spam or malicious viruses from a hypothetical extraterrestrial message.

As explained by Michael Hippke from the Sonneberg Observatory in Germany, and John G. Learned from the High Energy Physics Group, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Hawaii; “A complex message from space may require the use of computers to display, analyze and understand. Such a message cannot be decontaminated with certainty, and technical risks remain which can pose an existential threat. Complex messages would need to be destroyed in the risk-averse case.”

The recently published study has warned that if humans ever receive a message from an extraterrestrial civilization, apart from the fact that this would be the largest event in the history of mankind, we would be at great risk.

The study published on arXiv and titled ‘INTERSTELLAR COMMUNICATION. IX. MESSAGE DECONTAMINATION IS IMPOSSIBLE’ analyses the risk of potential alien messages.

Hippke and Learned note in their study how there are “several possible threats from an ETI message. On the most basic level, a message might represent a statement like “We will make your sun go supernova tomorrow”. True or not, it could cause widespread panic.”

“More realistically, a longer text could have a demoralizing cultural influence. For example, it is debated whether the Roman Empire was destroyed by the bible. We now follow along with the (perhaps more likely) case that the hypothetical message is not very short, and non-trivial in content.”

In their paper, multiple possibilities of a hypothetical contact with an extraterrestrial civilization are analyzed in detail.

The research considers how humanity could protect against spam or malicious viruses that could contain a message from the stars, for example.

Speaking in an interview with Universe Today, Professor Learned said:

 “There is no compelling reason at all to assume benevolence (for example that ETI is wise and kind due to their ancient civilization’s experience). I find much more compelling the analogy to what we know from our history… Is there any society anywhere which has had a good experience after meeting up with a technologically advanced invader? Of course, it would go either way, but I think often of the movie Alien… a credible notion it seems to me.”

Scientists suggest that any potential alien messages spotted by SETI are examined and “decontaminated” previously, to avoid potential damage, since, as researchers point out, to eradicate an entire civilization it would be much easier for aliens to send us a malicious message (virus) than an alien armada.

The study takes a look at the different dangers that an extraterrestrial message could contain. As noted by Universe Today, beyond the likelihood that a message could convey misinformation designed to cause a panic or self-destructive behavior, there is also the possibility that it could contain viruses or other embedded technical issues (i.e. the format could cause our computers to crash).

Hippke and Learned assure that neutralizing a possible computer threat that could arrive in the form of a message coming from an extraterrestrial civilization with more advanced technology would be very difficult, so they recommend being cautious and applying security measures to try to avoid greater risks.

AI Expert Claims Artificial Intelligence Will Become ‘Billions Of Times’ Smarter Than Humans

According to an expert in Artificial Intelligence, machines will become billions of times smarter than humans, and mankind needs to fuse with machines in order to survive.

Artificial intelligence could evolve to become “billions of times smarter” than humans according to Ian Pearson, a futurist at Futurizon who says people will need to merge with machines to survive.

The fact is that AI can go further than humans, it could be billions of times smarter than humans at this point,” said Pearson during a panel hosted by CNBC at the World Government Summit in Dubai.

“So we really do need to make sure that we have some means of keeping up.”

Pearson continued, “The way to protect against that is to link that AI to your brain so you have the same IQ… as the computer. I don’t actually think it’s safe, just like Elon Musk… to develop these superhuman computers until we have a direct link to the human brain… and then don’t get way ahead.”

Pearson’s comments echo the ex-engineer of Uber and Google, Anthony Levandowski, who formed the first church that worships an artificially intelligent being.

The futuristic religion, known as the “Way of the Future,” states that our species can improve itself by following the instructions of a robot that is “a billion times smarter than humans.”

WOTF will eventually have a gospel called ‘The Manual’, as well as rituals and even a physical place of worship.

Levandowski named himself “WOTF” dean, giving him total control until his death or resignation.

Interestingly, Pearson’s comments echo those made by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk who spoke about Artificial Intelligence saying: “Over time I think we will probably see a closer merger of biological intelligence and digital intelligence.”

Musk continued, “It’s mostly about the bandwidth, the speed of the connection between your brain and the digital version of yourself, particularly output.” Musk has since founded a startup company called Neuralink which aims to explore linking human brains to computers.

Numerous experts have spoken out about the dangers of Artificial Intelligence, as well as its benefits.

Professor Stephen Hawking, for example, says how we should be very careful when dealing and developing AI. The world-renowned scientist has said that Artificial Intelligence could become the worst event in the history of our civilization, urging experts to “employ best practice and effective management.”

In 2017, during a talk at the Web Summit technology conference, Hawking said that AI can in theory not only emulate human intelligence but greatly exceed it. Hawking also said that there is a danger that Artificial Intelligence could become so advanced that it may develop a will of its own.

Despite the fact that many people welcome AI into society, experts in the subject remain worried.

Elon Musk seems to agree with Hawking when it comes to AI. Mr. Musk warns we must tread carefully when it comes to AI, and called for companies developing AI systems to slow down in order to ensure they don’t unintentionally create something extremely dangerous for humans.

UFO hunters struggle to explain mystery ‘alien object’ spotted on Google Maps near Area 51

This is the strange ‘UFO’ seen near a military base

Yesterday, we revealed the location of a strange object resembling an alien craft that was spotted on Google Maps.

But we’re still no closer to knowing explaining the mysterious sighting of a structure which looks like it could be an alien ship – or just a boring old cesspit.

The object was first noticed by the YouTube channel SecureTeam10, which claimed it was in Area 51 – a top-secret military research base which has long been at the centre of wild alien conspiracy theories.

We discovered the coordinates of the ‘anomaly’ – which is actually 500 miles away from Area 51 – and have now been contacted by several readers keen to offer their own explanation about the object

‘While I do not have a definitive explanation, I would like to point out that the exact same shape of the ‘ship’ is mirrored and imprinted into the ground across from it,’ one man wrote.

‘That, plus the boat, leads me to believe this is a man-made body of water which caused a visual glitch.’

Another shared a picture of an object he claimed was a Mayan relic, showing an object in the sky which looks remarkably like the Google Maps sighting.

However, we have been unable to verify the authenticity of this image so have not published it.

Another reader pointed out what appears to be tanks nearby, which you can see in the images below.

He wrote: ‘There are a lot of what appear to be tanks covering every road to the south leading up to it. Some even look like they have embankments built around them. Weird!’

The ‘UFO’ was actually spotted near Naval Weapons Center China Lake, which is about 500 miles away from Area 51.

Some observers have suggested it’s a water reservoir or even a cesspit.

There is a boat nearby, which indicates that it could be used for sailing or perhaps testing boats.

However, this rather prosaic explanation was not enough for some Twitterers.

‘That, my friends, is one of the ships that’ll be used in a fake alien invasion,’ one nervous chap tremored.

‘Will be used to scare the masses. Remember this pic.’

Others questioned why you would test boats in a desert – and also whether the site was a military testing zone.

One person said: ‘It’s for boats. There is a boat nearby. That is a large pool of water with a launch ramp. Why is the question? WHY?’

It was later suggested that the object could be the result of some sort of glitch in Google Maps.

BEWARE! Aliens could destroy life from Earth without even visiting it!

According to the researchers, the aliens will not be sending any flying saucers to destroy the life. They will be simple sending messages through Artificial Intelligence to wipe out the human life.

A joint study by two researchers at the University of Hawaii and Sonneberg Observatory in Germany has revealed that aliens are able to wipe out the life from Earth with just AI messages, and do not even need to visit us.

According to the researchers, the aliens will not be sending any flying saucers to destroy the life. They will be simple sending messages through Artificial Intelligence to wipe out the human life.

If humans get message or mail which cannot be decoded, from the aliens, they should delete the communication without reading it as the mail may result in the destruction of the planet. Responding or replying to the messages could prove costly as it might alert the extra-terrestrial beings, said the researchers.

The Academic paper, which is titled “Interstellar Communication. IX. Message decontamination is impossible’, discusses a possible alien invasion. The research was carried out by Michael Hippke of Sonneberg Observatory, and John G. Learned from the University of Hawaii.

According to the scientists, the messages will be impossible to decode, and thus, there is no reason to open any such mail or message. They also warn that these emails or messages might contain malware or virus which could be so strong that it can destroy the technologies which exist on the planet.

Wanneer je in een ruimteschip van bijvoorbeeld een verre beschaving naar de aarde komt en je wilt dat min of meer anoniem doen, hoe verberg je je dan het best voor nieuwsgierige blikken? 

Je vermomt je als wolk en ook al ziet die wolk er dan soms een beetje vreemd uit, de meeste mensen merken dat toch niet op want ze kijken naar de grond of zien wat ze willen of verwachten te zien. 

Al jaren schrijven wij over (grote) ruimteschepen die zich vermommen als wolken zodat ze niet opvallen voor het doorsnee publiek. Het Engelse woord voor dit soort vermomming is cloaking/cloaken en dat is wat deze grote schepen heel regelmatig doen.

Soms gaat er even iets mis en worden ze tijdelijk zichtbaar, zoals we onlangs aantoonden in een artikel. Dit heeft alles met lichtval te maken en dus het tijdstip. Het schijnt dat rond zonsopkomst en -ondergang dat cloaken het moeilijkst is en dat zijn ook de momenten dat deze schepen nogal eens zichtbaar zijn.

Nu is er wederom een vreemde opname opgedoken die is gemaakt door een dame genaamd Wendy Wagner, boven New Mexico in Amerika.

De foto ziet er als volgt uit en hoewel men ook dit formeel een wolk noemt, lijkt welhaast overduidelijk dat we hier niet te maken hebben met een natuurlijk gevormde wolk, maar met een moederschip dat even tijdelijk de cloak niet goed hanteert. 

Wanneer je wat verder inzoomt, zie je heel duidelijk dat het hier om een constructie gaat in plaats van een door de natuur gevormd iets.

Het is een hele goede manier om dit soort schepen te verbergen, want in 99 procent van de gevallen worden ze niet opgemerkt, omdat men de vage omtrek van een wolk ziet en deze nooit in verband zal brengen met een ruimteschip.

Op onderstaande foto zie je een voorbeeld hoe soms wolken totaal niet thuis horen in het landschap. De volgende is genomen in Turkije en laat een kleinere UFO zien naast een wolk die overduidelijk niet thuis hoort in het landschap.

In de volgende video de bewegende beelden van diezelfde wolk met UFO: 

Een ander vreemd verschijnsel doet zich de laatste tijd voor op de Filipijnen waar mensen soms een paarse lucht zien. Waar het vandaan komt weet niemand, maar duidelijk is wel dat de lichtbron niet van de grond afkomstig is.

De lucht ziet er dan uit zoals te zien op de volgende afbeeldingen.

De volgende opname is gemaakt op 11 februari en wanneer je naar de bewegende beelden kijkt, zie je dat de lichten plotsklaps verdwijnen, alsof iemand een schakelaar heeft omgedraaid.


Dit is niet de eerste keer dat deze vreemde lichten te zien waren, want ook op 26 januari dit jaar was er iets vergelijkbaars te zien.

I believe this is the biggest conspiracy of all, and one in which, you must dive deep down the rabbit hole to truly understand all other conspiracies, especially modern era ones.

I think in order for you to be able to see the full picture and fully grasp the complexity of TPTB, you need to go all the way back and research history (real history - not the propaganda they teach in schools), mythology, lost civilizations, symbolism, occult, mystery schools, etc etc, and then move forward. Once you have done this, the bigger picture will come into focus, imo.

i hate that word "mythology" ...mainstream loves it...they use it to reference shit they dont understand and shit that isnt in the governments version of history...

ancient peoples did not waste their time carving fairy tales in stone...they carved their versions of history...more people need to wrap their head around that fact and dig a little deeper then the bible..

Being able to travel in time is something that has often been discussed, and it has been the focus of many movies. So far it has been seen as nothing more than a theory but would anyone believe a person if they said that they had traveled to a different time and come back?

What bothers him more is fear of reprisal for telling his story. This is because he claims to have worked for the government in Britain along with the British Intelligence agency.

Taylor said that there are many advanced technologies being kept secret. He went on to say that in time they will be released to the public but for the time being, they are highly classified. He claimed that “they” would be coming after him for releasing the video and telling the truth and that he was putting himself at risk for speaking up. According to Taylor time travel was first accomplished in 1981, and there is an infinite number of alternate universes out there. He went on to say that it is possible that the universes exist and they can be moved between. Taylor claims that a machine was developed for time traveling and to allow people to move between the parallel universes.

Taylor spoke out above visiting the year 3000 and said that not a great deal had changed, other than humans lived under the water and he talked in detail about the things that he had seen during his time in the future. Taylor described looking up and seeing flying transportation in the sky above but only being able to see lights through what he claimed was thick smog. He went on to talk about going to 8973 and said that this was when the British government thought that machines and men would fuse together as one.

The video goes on and the longer that Taylor speaks about his time in the future and time travel the stranger it seems to get. He starts by talking about going into the future and time traveling and then goes on to talk about parallel universes and to travel to them. He then goes on to talk about invisibility and more. Whether you believe what Taylor has to say or you are skeptical about it, the video is rather entertaining to watch, and it may have some people wondering.

There are vast quantities of mercury in the permafrost. With global warming, it’s now seeping away

Researchers found surprisingly large quantities of mercury in the permafrost of the northern hemisphere. As temperatures rise and ice continues to melt, the mercury can be released, with significant consequences for both wildlife and mankind.

The tentacles of climate change are long and far-reaching. As temperatures rise, it brings along a number of unforeseen changes. Rising temperatures are threatening the oceans, causing more hurricanes, and even causing a coffee crisis. Now, we can add mercury to that long list of problems.

A new study reports that permafrost soils contain more mercury than the rest of the planet’s soils, atmosphere, and oceans combined.

In the new study, geologists assessed the concentrations in permafrost cores from Alaska. They found that permafrost soils contain two times more mercury than soils elsewhere in the world — an unexpected discovery with important consequences.

“This discovery is a game-changer,” said Paul Schuster, a hydrologist at the U.S. Geological Survey in Boulder, Colorado and lead author of the new study. “We’ve quantified a pool of mercury that had not been done previously, and the results have profound implications for better understanding the global mercury cycle.”

This wouldn’t normally be a very high concern, but the problem is that temperatures are now rising.

Permafrost in Alaska is thawing, and a new study finds northern permafrost soils are the largest reservoir of mercury on the planet, storing nearly twice as much mercury as all other soils, the ocean, and the atmosphere combined. Mercury tends to bind with organic material in the soil and gets stuck with that soil. As it gets buried by sediment, it becomes frozen into permafrost, where it can remain for thousands of years. But if temperatures rise, all that can change. When temperatures rise and the permafrost melts, mercury isn’t fixed in place anymore. Instead of being frozen in the permafrost, it can also be transported by waters or microorganisms, or it can slowly seep on its own.

“There would be no environmental problem if everything remained frozen, but we know the Earth is getting warmer,” Schuster said. “Although measurement of the rate of permafrost thaw was not part of this study, the thawing permafrost provides a potential for mercury to be released—that’s just physics.”

Locally, the effects could be dramatic. From microorganisms, things can slowly move up the food chain, and like most toxins, they tend to gather higher up the food chain — and potentially end up on our plates.

The release of mercury could also have far-reaching global consequences. If released into the atmosphere, it could travel quickly at the mercy of air currents, possibly ending up as far as thousands of kilometers away.

But we don’t really know how much and how far the mercury can travel. Scientists are also unsure how much of the stored mercury would affect ecosystems if the permafrost were to thaw.

Schuster hopes to analyze that those issues in further studies, understanding how the mercury can affect humans and natural environments.

“24 percent of all the soil above the equator is permafrost, and it has this huge pool of locked-up mercury,” he said. “What happens if the permafrost thaws? How far will the mercury travel up the food chain? These are big-picture questions that we need to answer.”

Huge Antarctic iceberg exposes mysterious marine ecosystem hidden beneath the ice for 120,000 years

Last year, one of the largest icebergs in history broke off broke off from the Larsen C ice. The massive 2,200-square-mile iceberg called A-68 has exposed an ecosystem that has been hidden beneath the ice for thousands of years. Now, a diverse team made up of scientists from nine research institutes around the world is urgently traveling to the area where the iceberg calved to probe the seabed before it’s too late.

A daring expedition and lifeforms removed from time

The researchers are supposed to leave from the Falkland Islands to the calving site on 21 February, where they will spend three weeks until March 2018 on board the research ship RRS James Clark Ross.

The A-68 iceberg is one of the largest ever observed on Earth. It’s about as big as the state of Delaware and holds four times more ice than what gets melted from Greenland’s ice sheet in a year. Scientists had been preparing for A-68’s split from Larsen C for months before the calving, ever since they witnessed a crack in the ice shelf extending over 100 miles in length.

Ice shelves encircle the Antarctic continent, extending thick floating ice from the land glaciers. Due to warming temperatures, Antarctica’s ice shelves are starting to thin or collapse. An iceberg such as A-68 won’t raise sea levels because the detached ice was already afloat in the ocean. That’s very good news since A-68 holds enough mass to raise global sea levels by 3 millimeters had the ice been added anew to the ocean. However, events such as these can destabilize the ice shelf.

If an Antarctic ice shelf such as Larsen C collapses, it can free the ice it’s currently holding back on the Antarctic Peninsula. It’s this terrestrial ice flowing out that can raise sea levels, and by no negligible amount. On the upside, icebergs such as A-68 can make room for human explorers who can now witness what ecosystems which have been isolated for thousands of years look like. Perhaps, they will find totally new, strange life forms that have adapted to total darkness, completely isolated from other ecosystems.

The team of daring researchers led by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) will collect seafloor animals, microbes, plankton, and water samples from the now-exposed seafloor. They will record video footage and document whatever marine mammals and birds might have moved in the area.

The expedition is somewhat fortunate — it’s the first to benefit from an international agreement signed in 2016 by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR). Under this agreement, exposed marine areas following the collapse or retreat of ice shelves in Antarctica, such as the one targeted by BAS, are designated Special Areas for Scientific Study.

“The calving of A-68 offers a new and unprecedented opportunity to establish an interdisciplinary scientific research programme in this climate-sensitive region. Now is the time to address fundamental questions about the sustainability of polar continental shelves under climate change,” said Professor David Vaughan, Science Director at BAS.

Vaughan and colleagues are in a hurry to get to the calving site and get to work as quickly as possible. They’re concerned that sunlight will alter the ecosystem too much, at least at the surface layer.

Large icebergs have broken off Antarctic ice shelves before, such as those that separated from the Larsen A and B ice shelves in 1995 and 2002, respectively. However, it took five to 12 years for expeditions to make it to those areas. When they got there, they reported sparse signs of life.

This time around, researchers hope to be there quick enough to possibly surprise some of the supposed alien-like life lurking in the depths.

“We need to be bold on this one. Larsen C is a long way south and there’s lots of sea ice in the area, but this is important science, so we will try our best to get the team where they need to be,” Vaughan said.

Berkely's SETI project can't get its hands on the latest graphics cards, which are popular with cryptocurrency miners.

Everyday thousands of volunteers turn the power of their computers over to the SETI@home project in hopes of finding aliens among the stars. SETI@home—short for “Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence at Home”—is an experiment that uses people’s computers to increase the project’s processing power and analyze more radio signals from outer space.

The UC Berkeley-based SETI project only relies on volunteers for a portion of its computing power, however, and has its own computing installations at several telescopes. But the project team ran into problems recently when it tried to expand its operations by adding the latest and most powerful computers to two observatories. The team discovered, Berkeley SETI Research Center chief scientist Dan Werthimer told the BBC, that it couldn’t find the key computer component it needed: graphics processing units (GPUs).

That’s probably thanks to cryptocurrency miners. The same cards that make PC games look amazing and can crunch alien radio signal data can also “mine” (or generate) digital coins like Ethereum and Zcash, so cryptocurrency miners are buying them in bulk and leaving few behind for anyone else.

Searching the stars is intense work that “uses radio telescopes to listen for narrow-bandwidth radio signals from space.” Analyzing all of the data from these telescopes uses a lot of computing power. "We'd like to use the latest GPUs and we can't get 'em," Dan Werthimer, chief scientist of SETI, told the BBC. “That's limiting our search for extraterrestrials.”

Manufacturers such as Nvidia are struggling to keep up with demand for graphics cards. It recently told investors it would rise to meet its manufacturing challenge while focusing on its core market—gamers. It even suggested vendors limit purchases of graphics cards from individual buyers in an effort to stop miners from buying up all the cards.

“This is a new problem, it's only happened on orders we've been trying to make in the last couple of months,” Werthimer told the BBC. “We've got the money, we've contacted the vendors, and they say, 'we just don't have them'”

One scientist at the SETI Institute—an organization founded by Carl Sagan unrelated to UC Berkeley’s SETI project—think this GPU shortage is just a minor dip in the long arc of rising computer processing power. Computers will get faster and, eventually, we’ll find aliens if they’re there to find.

“I've bet everyone a cup of Starbucks that we might find ET within two dozen years,” Seth Shostak, fellow at the SETI Institute, told me in an email. But then, he isn’t using GPUs to conduct the search. “Using GPUs for SETI is certainly something we’ve been investigating for a long time," he said. "When it comes to finding the aliens, the more computer power you have, the quicker you can do the search. It’s like looking for buried treasure on a South Pacific island … if you can replace a teaspoon with a shovel, you might find it a lot quicker!”

At the moment, it seems that cryptocurrency miners are buying up all the shovels.

Five years ago today, a small asteroid with an estimated size of 65 feet (20 meters) entered Earth’s atmosphere. The February 15, 2013, asteroid was moving at 12 miles per second (~19 km/sec) when it struck the protective blanket of air around our planet, which did its job and caused the asteroid to explode. The bright, hot explosion took place only about 20 miles (30 km) above the city of Chelyabinsk in Russia and carried 20 to 30 times the energy of the Hiroshima atomic bomb. Its shock wave broke windows and knocked down parts of buildings in six Russian cities and caused some 1,500 people to seek medical attention for injuries, mostly from flying glass.

Large and small bodies from space strike Earth’s atmosphere continuously. The Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization, which operates a network of sensors that monitors Earth around the clock listening for the infrasound signature of nuclear detonations, said in 2014 that it had recorded 26 atom-bomb-scale asteroid impacts to Earth’s atmosphere since 2000.

Still, the February 15, 2013 Russian superbolide was extremely powerful. It was later said to be the most powerful explosion caused by an asteroid since the Tunguska event, which flattened a wide area of forest and killed reindeer in Siberia in 1908.

The Tunguska event happened in a sparsely populated part of Siberia. It remained mysterious to scientists throughout the early part of the 20th century. By contrast, across a wide swath of Russia on February 15, 2013, dashboard cameras and amateur photographers captured images of the incoming meteor.

After the 2013 meteor exploded, it’s said that local residents and schoolchildren found meteorite fragments left in its aftermath, many located in snowdrifts. An informal market emerged for meteorite fragments.

A large number of small meteorites fell on areas west of Chelyabinsk, and, within hours of the visual sighting of the meteor, a 20-foot (6-meter) hole was discovered on the frozen surface of Lake Chebarkul in the Russian Ural Mountains. Scientists from the Ural Federal University collected 53 samples from around the hole that same day.

In June 2013, Russian scientists reported further investigation by magnetic imaging below the location of the ice hole in Lake Chebarkul. They had identified a larger meteorite buried in sediments on the lake floor.

Following an operation lasting a number of weeks, on October 15, 2013, a large fragment of the meteorite was lifted from the bottom of Lake Chebarkul. It had a total mass of 1,442 pounds (654 kg) and to date remains the largest found fragment of the Chelyabinsk meteorite.

NASA satellites were also able to track the meteor plume in Earth’s atmosphere. As the video below describes, they tracked and studied the meteor plume for months.

Bottom line: On February 15, 2013, a small asteroid created a bright meteor over Russia, which exploded over the city of Chelyabinsk.

Unexplained Mystery Booms Continue Across America

Seriously though: what is causing all of these unexplained booms all across North America? From coast to coast, the sounds of thunderous explosions in the sky have rattled windows and shaken homes without any definitive official explanation. Is something strange going on overhead? Then again, when is something strange ever not going on overhead? 

Case in point.

The first of this week’s unexplained booms happened on February 6th in Midwest City just outside of Oklahoma City. Residents described what sounded like dynamite going off as their homes shook violently. One Midwest City woman, Donna Hood, described the ensuing vibration to local news as earthquake-like:

We thought we’d had an earthquake and we waited and looked on the news and everywhere else and nobody posted anything. So, we had no idea what it was.

Local meteorologists, meanwhile, say there’s nothing to worry about, just a case of the ol’ cryoseism, or frost quake. These rare seismic events occur when groundwater tables freeze rapidly and expand against one another underground, cracking under immense pressure. 

Cryoseisms can sometimes be powerful enough to crack the earth.

Two days later, police in Wheat Ridge, Colorado received numerous calls after homeowners heard a loud boom in the night. Residents of the Denver suburb told police they in fact regularly feel and hear what sounds like an unexplained explosion at 3:00 a.m., mostly on weekends. According to CBS4 Denver, Wheat Ridge residents are left frightened and mystified by the lack of answers. Some believe the noise could be caused by something industrial like a malfunctioning electrical transformer, while others worry the noise is “something not so easily explained.”

Local news eats this stuff up. As do I, of course.

Wheat Ridge Police department spokesperson Sara Spaulding says police are likewise baffled:

We’ve had descriptions that are everything from a transformer blew, to a sonic boom that you might hear with an airplane passing overhead or a jet passing overhead, fireworks sometimes, those loud booms without the crackly noises associated. The challenge for us is that there isn’t any evidence of what this could be.

Are the Wheat Ridge or Oklahoma City booms related to the other booms heard and felt around the country? What is behind this phenomenon? I’m going with secret military activity. The world sure seems to be getting weird and dangerous again.

Nothing attracts conspiracy theories like a SpaceX launch. From UFO sightings at failed launches to rumors of corporate espionage, all kinds of speculation have been cast at the enigmatic Elon Musk and his sometimes secretive private space program. After Musk and co. recently launched the first Falcon Heavy rocket into space carrying Musk’s red Tesla roadster and its supposed empty spacesuit driver, the internet realized that, well, you know there could be a body in that suit and we’d never know. But come on, would Elon do something like that? I mean, if anyone had the cojones to put a dead body in orbit on live TV, it’s that dude. The Falcon Heavy launch didn’t just contain the empty spacesuit, though. Riding along beside the convertible was a disc of quartz crystal containing a hologram upon which was etched a massive library of data encoded using some of the most advanced storage methods possible, all designed to last billions of years. Strangest of all, no one really knows what exactly is written on them.

I bet whoever is in this spacesuit knows.

The disc is part of what is being called the Arch, created by the The Arch Mission Foundation, a non-profit group which statestheir goal is to “permanently archive human knowledge for thousands to billions of years. We exist to preserve and disseminate humanity’s knowledge across time and space, for the benefit of future generations.” To do this, the foundation helped develop a “5D optical storage” method using discs of quartz crystals inscribed with laser nanostructuring to create afreaking hologram inside the structure of the crystal disc. Yeah, we’re living in the future. These discs will be readable 14 billion years and can hold 360 terabytes of data, or around 7,000 Blu-Ray discs.

Plus they look like they’re straight out of Blade Runner.

According to the Arch foundation, the first arch disc contains Isaac Asimov’s Foundation, an epic series of deeply philosophical science-fiction novels. Throughout those novels, the protagonist seeks to preserve humanity’s knowledge in the face of an impending galactic disaster. The Arch Mission foundation says that we live in an uncertain age where planetary chaos and disaster seems ever more likely. Thus, the need to preserve the collected knowledge of humankind is dire. And, of course, shoot it into space on a really big rocket that goes boom. Oh, and in the most American fashion possible, by putting it orbit alongside a red convertible piloted by a single spacesuit, making it the most conspicuous thing in space possible:

This Arch library will orbit the Sun for at least millions of years alongside Elon’s Tesla Roadster. The Roadster will likely be the oddest object in the solar system, and thus is the perfect place to put an Arch library so that it can be noticed and retrieved in the distant future.

Of course, it might just look like a rock to any passing aliens. It is made of metals.  While the goals of the Arch Mission Foundation sounds well-intentioned (at least on the surface), calling any set of data the “collected knowledge of humankind” makes you really wonder who chose what to include in that library and what not to. The group’s founder has stated he wants to “put Wikipedia in space.” Sounds great. I’m sure the Pirahã people of the Amazon will love having their entire existence being summed up in 1600 words. The photos on the “crew” page of the foundation’s website don’t exactly represent the collective demographics of the entire human race, if you know what I mean. 

Is this really representative of the entirety human experience?

It also makes you wonder what could be on those discs that we don’t know about. The entire Foundation series wouldn’t take up more than a few hundred megabytes, tops. What about the other hundreds of terabytes? Is some group trying to seed space with a very specific vision of what human knowledge should be preserved in space and create a new human civilization where you can, I don’t know, marry your attractive cousins? Is Elon Musk trying to send a message to his home planet after landing here and benevolently giving us the technology of the future like Thomas Jerome Newton in The Man Who Fell to Earth? Is he going to fly away with all our water?

David Bowie could have easily played him in a movie, too.

I mean, if anyone is an alien, it’s that dude. It’s like he’s not even trying to hide it anymore. Or at least a Bond villain who hasn’t had his horrific accident that turns him evil yet. We’re still just living in his origin story.

This UFO cloaked in a cloud was seen over Crete last week. You can see that its breaking through the clouds. Don't be fooled by these cloaked craft. Aliens are highly intelligent and often believe that human intelligence is incredibly inferior to them. Thus, humans will often assume the cloud is just a cloud. However, we at UFO Sightings Daily know different. Here it almost looks like an invasion. Very dark, almost sinister looking.

Teotihuacan: An Ancient City That Resembles A Circuit Board When Viewed From Above

“From the air, Teotihuacan’s city layout mysteriously resembles a computer circuit board with two massive processor chips, which in this case are represented by the Pyramid of the Sun and the Moon.

The ancient city of Teotihuacan is one of the oldest Pre-Columbian cities in the American continent.

Built by an unknown civilization, the mysterious city was found devoured by vegetations when the ancient Aztecs arrived.

Excavations have shown that the structures of Teotihuacan have abnormal amount of Mica embedded into them, a fact that raises numerous questions.

Teotihuacan, the city of the gods

Teotihuacan from Nahuatl: Teōtihuācan, is the ”place where men become gods,” the “place where the gods were made, or city of the gods”. The name of Nahuatl origin was used by the Mexica, Aztecs, to identify this city built by a civilization before them and which was already in ruins when the Mexica saw it for the first time.

To date the name given by its original inhabitants is unknown.

The remains of the city are located northeast of the Valley of Mexico.

The city is shrouded in mystery for a number of reasons. Despite the fact that it was one of the most influential cities in the American continent, we know very little about it. In fact, the origins of Teotihuacán are still the subject of research among experts.

Around the beginning of the Christian era, Teotihuacan was a village that gained importance as a center of worship in the Anáhuac basin.

The first significant constructions are believed to have been erected at that time, as shown by excavations performed at the Pyramid of the Moon.

The city grew in importance during the Classic Period (3rd to 7th centuries AD).

At that stage, the city was an important commercial and political node that reached an area of almost 21 km2, with a population ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 inhabitants.

The influence of Teotihuacan was felt in all the directions of Mesoamerica, as shown by the discoveries in cities such as Tikal, Monte Albán, and other sites that had an important relationship with Teotihuacan.

Scholars are unsure of the ethnic identity of the first inhabitants of Teotihuacan.

Among the candidates are the Totonacs, and the Nahuas.

The most recent hypotheses suggest that Teotihuacan was a cosmopolitan city in whose flourishing groups of diverse ethnic origin were involved.

However, these are mere assumptions.

As noted previously, the identity of the people who founded Teotihuacan is a mystery.

Teotihuacan had long been abandoned before the arrival of the Spaniards to Mesoamerica. This means that the few references to the city that were preserved in the historical sources produced in the years after the Conquest of Mexico do not speak properly about the inhabitants of Teotihuacan but of the representation of those who lived after the Teotihuacan collapse.

The Nahua informants of Bernardino de Sahagún thought that Teotihuacan was the place where the gods met to give rise to Nahui Ollin, the Fifth Sun according to native mythology, a period which illuminates the contemporary era.

According to colonial sources, the Nahuas thought that Teotihuacan was built by the quinametzin, a race of giants that populated the world during the previous era and whose survivors hid away.

The temples, the pyramids of the city were imagined as massive tombs of the Gods who founded the city, a sacred place where after death, men would become gods.

For reasons that have not yet been fully elucidated, Teotihuacan collapsed towards the middle of the 8th century, giving rise to the Mesoamerican Epiclassic Period.

Teotihuacan was also apparently built mimicking the three stars of Orion.

According to archaeologists, the advanced design of Teotihuacansuggests that the ancient builders had the knowledge not only of architecture but of complex mathematical and astronomical sciences. One of the most amazing details about Teotihuacan, and what makes it different from other ancient sites is that when observed from the air, Teotihuacan’s city layout strangely resembles a computer circuit board with two large processor chips— the Sun Pyramid and the Moon Pyramid.

Researchers have also found numerous and remarkable similarities to the Great Pyramids of Egypt.

However, if the idea of Teotihuacan resembling a modern computer board doesn’t arouse your imagination, perhaps large amount of mica embedded into the monuments of Teotihuacan will.

Archaeologists have found that Teotihuacan’s structures are embedded with mica.

This mineral is found 3,000 miles away in Brazil and is found in nearly all buildings, housing complexes, temples and along the roads of Teotihuacan.

Excavations have revealed that the pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan contained considerable amounts of mica in layers up to 30 cm.

Certainly, Mica was not included in these constructions for decoration because you couldn’t actually see it, so it is clear that this mineral was incorporated into the monuments for another purpose.

Mica is stable when exposed to electricity, light, moisture, and extreme temperatures. It has superior electrical properties as an insulator and as a dielectric, and can support an electrostatic field while dissipating minimal energy in the form of heat; it can be split very thin (0.025 to 0.125 millimeters or thinner) while maintaining its electrical properties, has a high dielectric breakdown, is thermally stable to 500 °C, and is resistant to corona discharge.

At Teotihuacan, we basically have a massive ancient city, whose builders are unknown to history, with pyramids and surrounding structures that resemble a computer board when seen from the air.

In addition to that, we know that the builders of the ancient city incorporated Mica into the structures of the city. Mica wasn’t placed there for aesthetic purposes, which raises numerous questions. Is there perhaps an otherworldly influence behind Teotihuacan? And, is it possible that the entire city was not only built to serve as city, but to harness some sort of energy?

Scientists Find Sea Level Could Increase More Than Double By 2100

A study published on Monday noted that the rise in sea level is accelerating and could reach 66 centimeters by the end of the century, enough to cause significant problems in coastal cities and put millions of lives at risk.

The annual rate of increase in sea level, which is three millimeters, could reach 10 millimeters per year by 2100, according to a report published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (PNAS).

According to the study, based on 25 years of satellite data, the findings are “more or less consistent with the projections of the fifth evaluation report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)”.

The author of the analysis, Steve Nerem, said the acceleration, driven mainly by the accelerated melting of Greenland and Antarctica, “has the potential to double the rise in sea level by 2100, compared to projections that calculate a constant rate: more than 60 centimeters instead of 30.“

The professor of aerospace engineering sciences at the University of Colorado said that “it is almost certainly a conservative estimate.”

Climate change causes sea level rise in two ways. First, the higher concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere increase the temperature of the water, so the warm water expands.

“This thermal expansion in the oceans has already contributed to half of the seven centimeters average increase in sea level in the last quarter of the century,” explained the researcher.

In addition, the oceans rise with the increasing flow of water because of ice that melts rapidly at the poles.

“This article highlights the important role that satellite records can play in the validation of climate model projections,” added co-author John Fasullo, a climate researcher at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in the United States.

The scientists who were part of the study also come from the University of South Florida, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Old Dominion University and the National Center for Atmospheric Research.

Melting, Melting and more melting

If sea levels rising isn’t a danger, researchers have recently also highlighted another worrisome fact.

 Scientists warn that climate change could accelerate the release of toxic Mercury. 

As melting permafrost releases mercury, eventually some of it will make it into the food chain—and into animals such as the Alaskan caribou. As noted by National Geographic, “in some forms, mercury is a powerful neurotoxin, and in children it can harm brain development, affecting cognition, memory, language and even motor and visual skills. Even in adults, excessive amounts can hamper vision, speech and muscle movements, compromise the reproductive and immune systems, and cause cardiovascular problems.”

If global warming ends up melting the permafrost—the permanently frozen surface layer of the northern hemisphere—it could trigger a global ecological catastrophe, since this area contains more than 15 million gallons (58 million liters) of mercury buried according to a group of researchers.
