Back in January 2007, I interviewed a man named Ray Boeche. Ray has an interesting background, as he is both a priest and a former state-director with MUFON, the Mutual UFO Network. At the time in question, I was thinking about writing a book on the infamous Rendlesham Forest UFO event of December 1980. I already knew that Ray had spoken to a couple of government insiders who had shared some pretty bizarre and amazing data with him on the incident. It was data that suggested at least a significant portion of the affair may have revolved around the use of sophisticated holograms, rather than anything extraterrestrial.
As I continued to chat with Ray, however, he told me something that I found even more intriguing. Ray revealed that his insider sources said they were attached to a classified program within the military-intelligence-government world that was seeking contact with what they termed “Non-Human Entities.” Or, NHEs for short. At first, the group suspected that the entities were extraterrestrial. As time went on, however, that theory was replaced by a far more controversial one. The group came to believe that they were dealing with nothing less than demonic entities from a literal Hell. But, apparently, that didn’t stop the group from trying to contact and interact with them.
Reportedly, and as a result of the group trying to work with demons, there were various deaths in the program (Ray told me that his sources personally showed him graphic photos of some of the dead), ill-health, and bizarre runs of bad luck. It was if the entire project was cursed. In fact, that is exactly what some of the members of the group came to believe.
When Ray told me all of this I found it far more fascinating than the Rendlesham idea. And, so, I decided to dig further into what was clearly a much stranger story, interviewing Ray at length and seeking out other sources, too. Most of the information I uncovered on this group – which used the nickname of “The Collins Elite” (I still don’t know its real name) – was published in my 2010 book, Final Events.
I don’t personally think that the NHEs are literal demons, but I do believe they are dangerous and manipulative entities from other realms of existence. However, for me the most notable and fascinating aspect of all this was the fact that some element of the U.S. Government was (and still is…) covertly funding the group, primarily those in government who adhere to the “Satanic UFO” angle. So, you may well ask, why am I mentioning all of this right now? I’ll tell you.
Take a look at this new interview with Senator Harry Reid (of the newly-outed UFO program story), in which George Knappbrings up the matter of those aforementioned “satanic UFOs,” and “fear based on religious beliefs” in relation to the intelligence community and UFOs. Knapp then brings up the matter of the UFO phenomenon being “evil.” Reid replies in an interesting way, as you will see. It’s only a short piece, about 5 minutes long, and the specific “satanic” angle comes towards the end.
All of this sounds very much like a brief reference to the Collins Elite and its work, beliefs and conclusions. Perhaps with a little bit more pushing, this new, ahem, revelation just might lead to the disclosure of more material and data on the Collins Elite and its work – most of which, from the 1990s onward, was connected to the human soul and an unclear agenda that the NHEs have for our souls. If you believe the NHEs are Satanic, of course.
The recent news wave of the so-called UFO Disclosure via the New York Times, Harry Reid and Tom Delonge, is probably nothing more than a smokescreen to move secretly highly advanced technology from their “black world’ into the “white world” to justify the missing money ($21 Trillion) at HUD, NASA & the Department of Defense, used to fund the secret black budget projects.
After they have cleared up their major problem of the missing trillions, they will continue with their soft UFO disclosure program in such a way, that due to the possible release of highly advanced technology, many people will not look surprised anymore.
While a disclosure will not come as a surprise for the hardcore believers, obviously it will be a managed UFO and Alien disclosure especially intended for those that don’t know the truth to lessen the overall panic and confusion that will surely take place once this event (major TV event) happens.
A follow-up of their UFO disclosure agenda will be a possible request to the Senate to increase the funding of their space defense program to develop their already existing technology in a way that if it would come to an “alien threat” they are prepared to protect the people around the world. (Remember Wernher von Braun’s statement: “Their last card will be a threat from space.”

I’m not going to be the wet blanket who discounts sightings of Santa Claus this evening. (You can track Saint Nick’s progress at Norad to save yourself some time outdoors.) But as we wait for Christmas to arrive, I wanted to share some thoughts on what appears to be a subtle shift in the attitudes of other people looking up into the night skies.
For a long time now it’s been absolute taboo for anyone in the professional media (or any other “proper” social circles for that matter) to talk about the idea of intelligent extraterrestrial beings hanging around in the vicinity of the Earth except in jest. To do otherwise was an invitation to exile with the rest of the kooks, nuts and general conspiracy theorists. But after that curious report in the New York Times which I wrote about recently, I’m sensing a change.
People who would formerly never have uttered more than a few one-liners on the subject suddenly seem just a tad bit more open to at least suggesting… a possibility. We’ve been hearing stories and whispers from people who (sometimes at least) don’t really seem all that insane, claiming that they saw or experienced… something. Oh, to be sure, we all have to quickly add stern, grown-up caveats about how it could still be explained by something totally mundane. But there’s also been a muted “maybe” attached ever since that New York Times story came out, exposing the revelation that the government has indeed been up to… something related to the subject. One such story came from the completely sensible and practical Michael Brendan Dougherty at National Review.
Over time I put away Mysteries of the Unknown and tried to forget my nightmarish preoccupations with life out there. And on balance, I resolved to believe we probably are alone. I’m fine being the sort of person unsophisticated enough to believe humanity really is at the center of the great cosmic drama, that all this space, all those lights, all the cosmic flashes, and all this beautiful and scary mystery was daubed across the great blackness for us. In fact I think this is the more humble view, the one that accepts that humanity isn’t left to “socially construct” all the meaning for itself.
But once in a while, I think it is okay to take a second glance at the mysterious picture and think to yourself the words on that poster in Mulder’s office: “I want to believe.”
Dougherty isn’t the only one quoting Fox Mulder’s poster this month. Sure, there are still some dour individuals like Matthew Walther who sensibly remind us that too much obsession with what’s “out there” can lead us to ignore, neglect and further ruin the infinite mystery of what’s right in front of our eyes here on Earth. But then there are eminently respectable eggheads like Rafi Letzter, a science reporter at Scientific American (among other journals), who seems to have folded a slightly shifted attitude toward the extraterrestrial phenomenon into his baseline. He spends a great deal of time in this article criticizing the New York Times discussion of the “unusual alloys” allegedly being stockpiled in Las Vegas. This is because he feels that we already have a reliable grasp on the science of such things to the point where we could identify most any alloy we encounter or, if not, could define the properties of a new one quickly.
All of that is fair enough from the perspective of most metallurgists I suppose. But Letzter also tosses in the following paragraph, as if it were the most normal thing in the world. It’s the part where he outlines the three main “bombshells” in the New York Times article. (Emphasis added)
1. Many high-ranking people in the federal government believe aliens have visited planet Earth.
2. Military pilots have recorded videos of UFOs with capabilities that seem to outstrip all known human aircraft, changing direction and accelerating in ways no fighter jet or helicopter could ever accomplish.
3. In a group of buildings in Las Vegas, the government stockpiles alloys and other materials believed to be associated with UFOs.
Points one and two are weird, but not all that compelling on their own: The world already knew that plenty of smart folks believe in alien visitors, and that pilots sometimes encounter strange phenomena in the upper atmosphere – phenomena explained by entities other than space aliens, such as a weather balloon, a rocket launch or even a solar eruption.
That’s very strange to read in a scientific journal rather than, let’s say, the website of Mysterious Universe. The author blithely points out that “plenty of smart folks” are already believers (or at least those who truly want to believe) from the school of Fox Mulder. Not hopeless, borderline schizophrenics who have gone off their meds or con artists looking to pitch their next reality show. Smart people leading otherwise respectable lives.
Yes, he includes the still (mostly) mandatory caveat about how many sightings can be attributed to decidedly non-alien phenomena. But what we saw in the government video was something else. A fifty-foot long white tic tac with no wings, rotors or exhaust ports which was solid and could be tracked from multiple radar stations, dropping down from 80K feet to hover over the ocean, be filmed by (multiple) experienced Navy pilots, and then leave a pair of Super Hornets capable of doing nearly Mach 2 in the dust? That was no balloon, swamp gas, ball lightning or trick of the light, bending the image of a solar flare through some inversion layer in the atmosphere. So what was it? We don’t know yet, and we might not unless the military knows more and cares to tell us. It’s unidentified. Hence the acronym.
So if I see something in the sky tonight that I can’t identify, sure… I’ll leave room for the possibility that it might be Santa on his sleigh. Or, just perhaps, it might be something else. It’s a big, empty looking universe. But at least in the way it’s being treated in the “respectable” media now, it may have just gotten a tad bit smaller and perhaps even a bit more crowded. So do I Believe? Not yet, because I haven’t experienced anything like that myself thus far and, as Carl Sagan once said, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. But I’m at least willing to say in public that I really want to. There’s more room in our world for Fox Mulders now, as long as we keep a healthy supply of Dana Scullys around to peer review the findings.

Feds Reportedly Funded $22 Million On Secret UFO Program
The US government allegedly spent around $22 million funding in their apparent suspicion that the truth was out there. The New York Times reported that Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program remains in existence even though the Department of Defense decided to cancel the funding in 2012.
The program investigated sightings of fast moving aircraft with no visible sightings of propulsion or hovering aircraft with no apparent means of a lift, the Times reported. It also allegedly studied videos of encounters between American military plane and unknown objects.
According to the newspaper, the initial funding of the program came mainly at Sen. Harry Reid’s request. The senator is a Democrat from Nevada and has had a long-held interest in space phenomena, the Times reported. Just last week, Reid renewed his call for the federal government to fund UFO research in a tweet that linked to the report of the Times and borrowed the famous tagline from The X-Files “the truth is out there.”
In a subsequent tweet, Reid wrote if anyone says they have the answers, they are fooling themselves. He added that they do not know the answers, but they have plenty of evidence to support asking the questions. He stressed that this is about science and national security, and if the US does not take the lead in answering these questions, others will.
Reid, who retired from Congress this year, told the Times he was proud of the program saying that it is one of the good things he did in his congressional service. He believed he had done something that no one has done before.

A video clip has emerged showing a UFO that is apparently pursuing a plane in the skies over Liverpool before suddenly darting out of view.
Witnesses said that the saucer-shaped UFO looked like a glowing yellow star but bigger. The object reportedly followed the passenger jet’s path, dodging in and out of clouds.
The footage was recorded in 2015 but came to light again after YouTube channel secureteam10 uploaded it recently to the video-sharing site. It now has more than 200,000 views.
The voice of self-proclaimed UFO analyst Tyler can be heard in the background of the video, explaining what took place.
According to Tyler, the footage shows a glowing or reflective object described as an orb. He notes that it is not an aircraft or a drone.
He further says that the UFO is tagging along, following the passenger jet. Right at the end, Tyler says that the UFO takes a steep nosedive, totally changes direction and vanishes.
A local witness on the ground said that it was bright and white light throbbing and pulsating from the mysterious aerial object.
At first, he thought it was a plane but later realised that it could not be because it was stationary.

Senator Harry Reid Pushed Pentagon UFO Program
Senator Harry Reid was behind the recently-revealed Pentagon UFO research program, retired Nevada senator Harry Reid spoke with George Knapp about the story that has spawned headlines around the world.
In his first televised interview on the topic, which was exclusively provided to KLAS, the former Senate Majority Leader was remarkably forthcoming about the program and how it developed.
Asked how he feels about the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program being revealed to the public, Reid responded, “I’m very glad, because now we have scientific evidence.”
To that end, the retired Senator indicated to Knapp that, as opposed to how the program’s findings have been portrayed by some media outlets, the results of the study were impressive.
Reid also provided some clarification on how space entrepreneur Robert Bigelow was chosen to helm the AATIP.
He stressed that “we wanted to make sure people couldn’t complain about it that it was some sweetheart deal” and explained that the job was “put out to bid.”
Bigelow, in turn, was awarded the contract because he “gave the best cost” and was “willing to build the infrastructure and build everything on his own.”
According to Knapp’s report, the program boasted a team of 46 scientists and employed ‘rapid response teams’ to investigate UFO cases which came in to the group.
As to why the program ultimately shut down, Reid refuted reports that he had a hand in ending the AATIP, saying “I wish it were still going.”

Note that the Obama administration opened the office and the Trump administration closed the office. Some folks would say both have been briefed but neither has high enough access to the files and current work. Your opinions will vary.
So far, only visual sighting evidence has been brought to our attention from him; from a scientific view, there is no physical evidence that he presented. So, don’t get too exuberant since this particular USG office is closed. It’s not the start of disclosure, just a reminder and reinforcement that *something is out there.*
The talking points of Mr. Elizondo are consistent with unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) aka UFO sightings. So far, he has not elaborated beyond things in the air. No USO. Nothing about platforms and vehicles in space. Nothing exotic like Krasnikov tubes or even warp drive. and nothing that goes beyond Paul Hill’s book Unconventional Flying Objects.
So let’s take a look at the seven claims Luis Elizondo puts forth about what his office investigated. His words are in quotes.
Electric, magnetic, gravitational (sic) and inertia forces must all be controlled for flight. These craft do it better than our rotating machinery and apparently have internally integrated the flight control for attitude and velocity/acceleration along a path. Field control externally is part of the answer. Internally, there may be moving energy states involving oscillating or circulation of mass states including solid, liquid, gas and plasma.
The lack of “any obvious forms of propulsion” (no prop or jet)
Current known advanced efforts in leading propulsion research (basic R&D, not product R&D)
“Extreme Maneuverability” – Inertia is the issue, especially angular momentum
The key question is how angular momentum is conserved. Keep in mind that multiple sources of thrust may be available and well coordinated. Also, relativistic level analysis (General relativity, not special
In atmosphere, velocities up to Mach 10 before ionization begins. By Mach 12 in the atmosphere, almost all known materials and coatings ionize and disperse.
“Positive lift” (hover and lift)
Note choice of “lift”. It’s not aerodynamic lift but vertical velocities of a craft from a hover position is what he is speaking of.

Common technologies used to correlate and confirm visual sightings
Beyond radio, there were at least two technologies instrumental in his presentation: radar and electro-optics. Here is a brief summary.
Bob Tarantino ~1929 to 1935
Radar dates back to the 1929 for antiaircraft fire and even further into the 19th century for noticing interference above noise.
Radar developed rapidly after the invention of Cavity_magnetron in the late 1930s.
This device was used for radar then and emDrives now.
For velocities above Mach 3, at two ground air traffic radars are required to simply identify faster moving anythings. Over-the-horizon radars have at least 10x the distance capability of the ~250 mile range of ATC radars. So hypervelocity vehicles traveling Mach 5 or higher are an issue. In the atmosphere, 0he upper limit is above Mach 10 when everything unprotected ionizes. Mach 10 is about 7600 mph. Most sightings from ground are far less but greater than Mach 4 which is the limit of jet craft so far. Above Mach 5, one has to go to scramjet and rocket technologies or borrow something seen leaving the atmosphere.
Electro-optics refers to night vision. Germans and US in WW2 advanced sniperscope (Generation 0). US advances in 1950s and 60s.
AN/PVS-1 Starlight scope was in Viet Nam late 1966 amplified ambient light from moon typically (Generation 1).
The most important thing is that in the optical spectrum many of these observers cannot see aerial objects due to cloaking or fast movement. However, most craft have an infrared signature which is more difficult to mask or hide.
The Navy pilot provides an interesting view as if the vehicle were in a cloud chamber. The visual sighting suggests a field driven craft. Field drives us electromagnetic fields as well as gravitational AND inertia fields to control the craft especially in space but quite useful in earth’s atmosphere with no obvious control surfaces.
For attitude and path control of a craft without observable control surfaces for some time there has been in the works at leading aerospace manufacturers. The physics of ions (electrohydrodynamics) can be used to control lift, thrust, drag and even work against gravity. Fully developed, commercial planes could have a no-moving-parts control surfaces within the next ten years.
In order to detect most vehicles or platforms, IR and starlight-type scopes are very useful. In all cases, a thorough scan across the Em spectrum from DC to beyond light is required. A 3D scan of the acoustic spectrum is also required since reflections and refractions can create ghost imaging and hide actual sources of sounds.
We are at a time in history where we may see US or foreign countries produce a vehicle with the propulsion system only on the inside of the craft and generating fields outside the craft for deflection of particles and fields resulting in silent travel.
At the same time one has to be very skeptical of any pronouncement and understand clearly what not only is being said, but what is left unsaid.
For some, the hope of ETs lies in camera/movie evidence. While fascinating, given the graphics, imaging and special effects along with vehicles and platforms such as RC helicopters and quadcompters, this may not be enough in many cases and simply a form of entertaining game of “what’s that?”
As a result of technologies that can simulate, spoof or prank the observer such as CGI and projector systems, the bar of “compelling evidence” needs to be raised.

Evangelist Billy Graham has had a ministry for 50 years to almost every US. President since Truman and was close to the Clinton’s. In his bestselling book, “Angels God’s Secret Agents” Graham states, “Some reputable scientists deny and others assert that UFOs do appear to people from time to time. Some scientists have reached the place where they think they can prove that these are possibly visitors from outer space.
Some Christian writers have speculated that UFOs could very well be a part of God’s angelic host who preside over the physical affairs of universal creation. While we cannot assert such a view with certainty, many people are now seeking some type of supernatural explanation for these phenomena. Nothing can hide the fact, however, that these unexplained events are occurring with greater frequency. (Page 21)
We must be aware that angels keep in close and vital contact with all that is happening on the earth. “The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels.” (Psalm 68) “His chariots of conveyance, which he sends for his friends, as he did for Elijah …his chariots of state, in the midst of which he shows his glory and power.“ Psalm 91. “For he will give his angels charge over you to guard you in all your ways.”
Dead Sea The priest-scientist ENOCH, is a prediluvian patriarch, one of the most famous and seminal characters of the previous time cycle. Father of Methuselah and great grandfather of Noah, Enoch is credited in the Bible as architect of the original Zion, the legendary “City of Yahweh”, as well as inventor of the alphabet and calendar. Enoch is also history’s first astronaut, who “is taken aloft by the Lord” and shown “the secrets of earth and heaven”. He returns to earth with the “weights and measures” for all humankind.
In the controversial Dead Sea Scrolls, revealing the lost Books Of Enoch removed from the Bible by early religious leaders, Enoch describes a wondrous civilization in the past, who misused the keys of higher knowledge and were unable to save themselves from the last cataclysm. Both literally and figuratively they lost the “keys”, they lost all higher knowledge. Yet, Enoch, along with many traditions, even the Mayan legend of Quetzalcoatl, promises a return of this knowledge at “The end of time”, the end of the present time cycle. Biblical Revelations promise “all will be revealed” at the end of the present world.

This time of year we celebrate the birth of Christ who was announced by angels, and his star was seen in the east. In the first chapter of the New Testament we’re told the Holy Ghost visited the Virgin Mary and that an Angel of the Lord visited Joseph to announce the conception of Christ and later his birth.
The Bible states, “That night some shepherds were in the fields outside the village, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly an angel appeared among them, and the landscape shone bright with the glory of the Lord. They were badly frightened, but the angel reassured them.”
“Don’t be afraid! I bring you the most joyful news ever announced, and it is for everyone! The Savior-yes the Messiah, the Lord-has been born tonight in Bethlehem! How will you recognize him? You will find a baby wrapped in a blanket, lying in a manager! Suddenly the angel was joined by a vast host of others–armies of heaven-praising God: Glory to God in the highest heaven, they sang, “and peace on earth for all those pleasing him.” When this great army of angels had returned again to heaven, the shepherds said to each other. “Come on! Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this wonderful thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about. (Luke 2) The armies of heaven may describe UFOs that are often seen in large numbers.
When Jesus is born the Magi or Wise Men from the East follow a star and are able to find the baby Jesus. Johannes Kepler discovered the math for the movement of the stars and planets and was unable to find the Star of Bethlehem followed by the Wiseman. Technically a star is very difficult to follow because stars appear to move as the world turns on its axis. It is more likely that the star was an unidentified light hovering high in the sky that according to scripture changed direction to bring the Wise Men to the birth place.
Kenneth Larson writes, “In the Bible, the actual scriptures state that the “Star of Bethlehem” appeared in the eastern sky and led the wise men westward to Jerusalem. While at Jerusalem, the star hovered overhead and then when the wise men appeared from the building the star made a sharp 90-degree turn and led the wise men four miles to the birth of Jesus Christ in the manger at Bethlehem.”
Most of the descriptions of Angels compares nicely with our available data of at least one group of the alien visitors. In Genesis, the first book of the Bible and Torah; Angels are described as having bodies with parts such as hands, feet, eyes, head, voices, mouths, hair, faces and other human body parts.
Apparently millions have believed and each year we celebrate the birth of Christ at Christmas that occurred some 2017 years ago. If we believe His message we are promised ever-lasting life. Of course, if the promise is untrue, we will all die. However, if it is true, I’ll meet you in Heaven! Merry Christmas
The Bible and Unidentified Flying Objects at Christmas
At Christmas time it would be interesting to review some of the teachings of the Bible because I feel it is one of the most important books that describe UFOs, and their occupants who give us information on why they are here. The Bible states, “In the beginning god created the heaven and Earth and made man in his image,” that includes a mortal body and soul and spirit that is immortal. The term soul is used 754 times in the Bible and we’re told the soul is the invisible spiritual part of man, a living organism.
The Bible claims each person has a soul, a life force that continues after death. At the time we take our last breath the soul or spirit leaves the body and is taken to Heaven by Angels perhaps using UFOs.
My brother who was thought dead was taken to the hospital by ambulance and brought back to life in the emergency room. He claims to have observed his body from above and saw the ambulance ride and the Doctors working on him. Later he returned to his body to live again.
Many medical personnel claim to have seen the spirit leave the body at the time the physical body dies. My wife who was helping her brother walk at the time of his death, she felt his body become lighter as his spirit left, followed by his full weight.
The Bible claims that the angels are sent by the Father in Heaven who promises the greatest gift of all, ‘eternal life.’ We can speculate at this time of year that the religious stories of the past are related to the signs and wonders we see in our skies now. I’ve studied the Bible, the Torah, the Koran, the Book of Mormon and many other ancient writings that claim angels exist and are messengers of God bringing scriptures.
Into the Valley of Death
During the last two weeks I have been in the hospital with two operations to improve the arteries around my heart and I’m now on the road to rapid recovery. If there are some spelling errors please excuse since the the procedures damaged my eye sight, but I’m scheduled for cataract surgery at the beginning of the year.
During my operation I was taken to the basement of Lourdes Hospital away from all other operating rooms. As I was wheeled into the operating room a black person six foot eight inches tall gave me a little water for my dry mouth. A giant of man dressed in medical clothes said to the surgical team, I’m sorry but we just lost Mary and I was next. I felt my arms and legs were tied down and I really couldn’t move.
The Doctor stated I need an #9 scalpel and was given pain medication. I was very apprehensive as I entered a bright light and taken to an Egyptian like room where my soul was being weighed to determine if I should live or die. I was found probably not worth saving. A voice of an angel or guardian spoke on my behalf claiming I could still do great good on earth, save lives, with his web site, movies. Etc.
I stated much more needs to learned about UFOs, and I can help stop the killing of thousands caused by illegal drugs. I traveled in space and time in a dream world and awoke in my Intensive Care Room. So I guess you arec stuck with me for a while.
“Pilots and astronauts who have seen UFOs, often claim the UFO is the size of an aircraft carrier. There is no question in my mind that they exist. I don’t know for certain what UFOs are, who is flying them, but something is flying in our skies. They could be a natural phenomenon not understood. I was told the evidence was there with safes full of evidence, but I needed the signature of my four star commanding general to see it. I have a dozens of friends who also know they exist, and seen various types of evidence. I’m part of the Disclosure Project that includes over one hundred military and government personnel ready to testify to Congress about the phenomenon.”

Deer Valley— I went to the park over in Deer Valley (Paseo Highlands Park) to get some fresh air and do some reading on December 20, 2017. I noticed a unusual cloud cover and a rainbow looking reflection in the sky. I captured a couple photos to show my wife the amazing sky this evening in Phoenix. After viewing the first picture I noticed an object in the picture that I could not see with my eyes, so I took a couple more. The UFO started moving higher out of sight after a few minutes. Manteca— Facing southwest I felt something watching us on December 16, 2017. It was like a heaviness above us. I saw a bright light like a diamond twinkling. being stationary just hovering then it moved slightly enough to convince me it wasn’t a natural thing because I was thinking it was just a star. I ran home took photos didn’t look at them for 3 days . Thinking that it wouldn’t show up much with cell camera. I saw a glowing dot only then I zoomed in and I was stunned. I could tell it had white lights and I think one red. Then I noticed it had a few friends cuz I saw several object that looked identical just hovering but I could see them moving slightly. keechobee — At 05:19 PM, on December 1, 2017, I was at home and received a text from a relative asking me to watch a snap they just sent which I did. Two videos were then sent to me by text. I went outside with binoculars to look eastward in the direction they were seen. Their house is about two miles East of mine. I also saw an object that I couldn’t identify as an aircraft. My first thoughts were that the object(s) were ultralights. The object flew to the north and out of view then south and out of view. I saw an object much higher going north which went out of sight. After studying the videos I could not conclude that they were a known type of aircraft or even that they were of the same object. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Metter — I observe many strange craft and orbs here in southeast Georgia. We are on a military flight path that a lot of exercises are performed as on February 2, 2017. But I first started noticing these unusual lights on random nights. I was usually alerted by the animals making noise as like they’re sending out a warning. This particular craft that is in this pic appears to be the shape of a horseshoe. With the recent video I saw showing something similar, I thought I would submit this pic finally. Lakemoor — We were sitting at a stoplight at Route 120 and Darrell Road in Lakemoor Il. heading west on November 11, 2017. Saw 4 bright lights hovering diagonally. One light descended behind some trees. Thought it looked strange so my girlfriend took a picture. The 1st 2 pics didn’t show anything. The 3rd picture showed the 4 diagonal lights and when we zoomed in on the picture, we saw the huge triangle ship with all the lights. Inver Grove Heights — traveling on 55 east I got off the Barnes Avenue exit on September 8, 2017. As I am exiting I see a Black object with a bright orange light traveling East getting ready to cross the Barnes ave bridge. Once I am on the bridge I stop to take pictures and video of the object. It crosses highway 52 still traveling East then passing about 20 feet from a water tower on the other side of the highway. Then traveling on 494 East Crossing the Wakota Bridge I see to my right the object flying over buildings now traveling more Northeast Crossing the Mississippi River. As I continued to travel on 694 North I lose track of the object and see a helicopter that is now running parallel to me as I travel 694 for about a mile and then I don’t see it anymore. This is a video I took a few days ago. I live in Robeson County, Maxton NC. This video is of lights that stayed in the same spot never moving. A few nights later I was on the phone to my boyfriend and saw the same light in the same patch of sky. This time the lights started darting not crazy across the sky, but from the spot it was to an inch or two above or below or side to side of it’s position. Observing the December 3rd, 2 017 supermoon I noticed object that was brighter than the moon at the 10 o’clock position.

Teotihuacan— We went with my wife on vacation to Mexico City on December 13; 2017. As usual, we took pictures and we recorded a couple of videos of the route we made in the pyramids. Until then we had not seen anything. The next night we started to organize the photos we had of the visit and we observed an anomaly on the pyramid of the citadel; I made two shots of those in an interval of two seconds. We started to review the videos and in 3 of them the UFOs move at an impossible speed for the technology that we currently have. You can see that they are in disk form, the video at normal speed is almost imperceptible but when you see them in slow motion they look the right way. No plane overflew the place, Photo 1 shows that we are in the Citadel, behind the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent, and on the pyramid appears an object in the form of anchor or boat, on the one kind of T, it seems to be turning around. Nottingham — My daughter, who lives in Nottingham, was looking at the evening sky late August this year 2017, she just took the photo and didn’t notice the object at the time. Later when looking at it she noticed the object to the right of the photo. it is in the sky in the early evening. I don’t think it is a reflection of any lamp inside of the bedroom on the window pane. It is a large metallic looking ring emitting a lot of light from the top. it is quite bright.

Is UFO disclosure finally upon us? Are we really being lied to about UFO’s? And is there a slight possibility that the US government is actually stockpiling materials—belonging to Alien technology—in building in Nevada that scientists cannot identify?
Ever since Bob Lazar, an alleged scientist who worked in Area 51, reassured to the general public that there were extraterrestrial spacecraft recovered from which “reverse engineering” was performed, UFO scholars have accused the US government of keeping from society evidence we are not alone in the universe, and hiding in secret hangars evidence of aliens.
Now, after the recent news about a secret program that existed to study the UFO Phenomenon, the pot continues to uncover.

In December of 2017, the New York Times published a shocking story that exposed how the Department of Defense (DoD) of the United States kept secret, from 2007 to 2012, a program with a budget of 22 million dollars to investigate UFOs.
From the published text, three points clearly stand out:
Countless highly-ranked individuals in the federal government know that UFOs are real and that aliens have visited our planet.
Military pilots have managed to record UFO encounters which show flying objects that display capabilities unlike any man-made vehicle in existence today.
In a series of buildings located in Las Vegas, the U.S. government stores the remains of alien technology and materials that are believed to come from, or are related to UFOs.
Despite the fact that the first two points mentioned above received an ample amount of coverage in media, the third—and perhaps most important—point was nearly ignored completely, the reason why one of the authors of the article published by the Times, recalled it in a television interview seen in the video below.
“They have in their possession, as we reported in the article, several materials belonging to these objects [the UFOs]. They have been studied by our scientists to learn more about their amazing properties and technology, “says Ralph Blumenthal in the interview conducted on the MSNBC news channel.
Mr. Blumenthal said the DoD “do not know” what the materials are made of.
“It’s some sort of compound they do not recognize,” he added.
According to the NY Times article;
“The company [involved in the DOD research] modified buildings in Las Vegas for the storage of metal alloys and other materials that … program contractors said had been recovered from unidentified aerial phenomena. Researchers also studied people who said they had experienced physical effects from encounters with the objects and examined them for any physiological changes. In addition, researchers spoke to military service members who had reported sightings of strange aircraft.”
While there is much information about the DOD research and the objects themselves, any questions remain in the open.
What type of metal alloys are we exactly talking about? What are the materials with exotic properties? At this point, it is noteworthy to mention the Roswell incident and what Bill Jr., son of one of the main witnesses (Mac Brazel) said to have seen from the alleged crash site: fragments of a strange material that, despite being “thin as a leaf”, was impossible to break, cut or burn and had the property to return to its original state.
This raises other questions; Are these types of materials those that are being kept away in the secret facilities spread across Las Vegas? And, is it possible that the study of these exotic materials may have contributed to our technological boom in recent decades?
Boeing today released a photo of its MQ-25 Stingray prototype, an unmanned carrier-based tanker aircraft. The U.S. Navy is looking for an unmanned tanker that can operate with existing carrier catapult launch and recovery systems. The MQ-25 will fly missions to extend the range of Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets, EA-18G Growlers, and F-35C Lightning II fighters.
A final request for proposals (RFP) was issued by the Navy in October, and proposals are officially due January 3, 2018. In addition to Boeing's bid, Lockheed Martin is expected to submit a proposal for the MQ-25 contract. General Atomics, which builds the MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper military drones, will also submit a bid, having revealed artist concepts of its tanker drone design in October shortly after the RFP was announced.
“Boeing has been delivering carrier aircraft to the Navy for almost 90 years,” said Don Gaddis, head of the refueling system program at Boeing’s Phantom Works, in a press release. “Our expertise gives us confidence in our approach. We will be ready for flight testing when the engineering and manufacturing development contract is awarded.”
Boeing's MQ-25 prototype will undergo additional engine tests before flight ramp and deck handling demonstrations that will be conducted on an aircraft carrier early next year. After the handling demonstrations, Boeing will need to launch the MQ-25 off a carrier deck for its first flight.
The image released by Boeing reveals robust landing gear for carrier operations and possibly a low-observable design, although stealth is not one of the primary requirements for the drone tanker. The Navy, however, has been researching a multitude of carrier-launched aerial drone systems for years, from surveillance to electronic warfare to strike operations. If Boeing secures the contract for the MQ-25 tanker, they could have a leg up for future Navy contracts for additional carrier-launched drone aircraft.
It is not clear whether the MQ-25 prototype from Boeing Phantom Works was designed with future drone configurations in mind. More information and photos of Boeing's MQ-25 should become available in the coming months as the company conducts additional tests. For now, we are just waiting to see an actual photo of General Dynamic's drone tanker, and of course, to see what Skunk Works has been busy cooking up for the competition.
Mainstream news outlets jumped into the deep end of Billy Cox's Great Taboo. The New York Times, Politico and The Washington Post are among those reporting to have confirmed that Luis Elizondo, a career intelligence officer formerly with the Defense Department and currently of Team DeLonge, headed a UFO investigation project as claimed. The Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program, reportedly operational from no less than 2007 to 2012, was financed through black funding which included money funneled to Bigelow Aerospace, owned by longtime UFO enthusiast and controversial philanthropist Robert Bigelow. The remarkable circumstances published included the claim, "Under Mr. Bigelow’s direction, the company modified buildings in Las Vegas for the storage of metal alloys and other materials that Mr. Elizondo and program contractors said had been recovered from unidentified aerial phenomena."
If you're interested in UFOs, you are justified in sitting up and taking note. If you've been pulling for DeLonge, congratulations. A little chest beating is in order. The current revelations don't excuse his wild and unsupported claims about an alien presence, but he apparently has, in fact, been in contact with an intelligence community member who actually had something to say, or at least more to say than the average self-proclaimed insider. That stated, questions involve how and why it was orchestrated. It is imperative to proceed cautiously and critically. I encourage trying to refrain from premature conclusions and confirmation bias. While some long frustrated ufology activists have indeed succeeded in making some noise, it is important to remember a well executed public relations campaign does not an established fact make. It is imperative the reporters and key players produce materials fully supporting their claims else risk driving yet another stake of cynicism squarely through the heart of open mindedness. In this post let's cautiously explorewhere these stories lead us, both past and present. Taxpayer Funds For starters, let's consider the reported UFO hunting initiative was a taxpayer-supported program. I asked Sharon Weinberger via email if she cared to provide comment for this blog post. She is Executive Editor at Foreign Policy and author of the nonfiction book, Imaginary Weapons: A Journey Through the Pentagon's Scientific Underworld, as well as the recent bestseller, The Imagineers of War: The Untold Story of DARPA, the Pentagon Agency That Changed the World. "As a long-time advocate of government transparency, I think the only thing I have to say at the moment is that such programs, if pursued, must be able to stand up to public scrutiny," Weinberger explained. "The fact that we didn't know about this program until long after it was over, even though it was unclassified, reflects a more fundamental problem at work here. Taxpayers deserve to know their money is being spent." The reported distribution of funds under the direction of the Department of Defense potentially opens the circumstances up to FOIA inquiries. The news stories alone offer a substantial number of FOIA opportunities, including requesting for public verification and review the documents and communications provided to the reporters. Obviously, circumstances surrounding the alleged physical evidence stored in modified buildings per Bigelow's oversight should be scrutinized at length, among other items referenced.

It was further reported via the Times, "Researchers also studied people who said they had experienced physical effects from encounters with the objects and examined them for any physiological changes." I encourage submitting FOIA requests on such research, who specifically did it, the exact funding trail involved, the resulting dissemination of data, and similar details. For instance, who were the "program contractors" collecting material recovered from unidentified aerial phenomena? With what organization(s), exactly? What were the specific circumstances? Dr. Tyler Kokjohn holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and is a Professor of Microbiology at Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has shown a willingness to address UFO-related topics in reasoned manners, applying his expertise to issues often debated within the community.
In response to request for comment on the UFO-Pentagon news, the doctor provided the following:
Helene Cooper et al. have reported a remarkable story about an obscure Defense Department ‘black money’ project, the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (1). This 5 year, multi-million dollar effort to investigate UFO reports was funded at the request of Senator Harry Reid supported by two (now deceased) Senate colleagues. Financial support for the earmark program was terminated in 2012 when officials determined these funds should be directed to ‘higher priority issues’ (2). Whether the work still continues somewhere within the Department of Defense is unclear (2).
This news story has exposed a secret treasure trove of information for follow-up investigations. It appears most of the money was channeled to an aerospace research company owned by Robert Bigelow. Researchers interviewed military personnel who reported UFO sightings and conducted medical examinations of subjects experiencing physical manifestations linked to UFO incidents. In addition, Bigelow Aerospace customized buildings in Las Vegas to store metal and other materials recovered from UFO encounters.
The story by Cooper et al. (1) was solid journalism in that it provided information acquired from several persons with direct involvement in the events. However, one facet of the reporting inadvertently reveals something odd; the scientist and engineer contacted for responses, although highly expert, did not appear to have direct knowledge of the work or to have been given access to any results/data. Accordingly, their responses were generic doubts about the UFO subject, not specific critiques of the actual work itself. This seems strange because Bigelow Aerospace solicited research proposals for the effort and hired people to conduct the work. Somehow the people best able to comment regarding the scientific quality of the investigations and the significance of the results obtained were mostly overlooked.
For somewhere between 5-10 years, data and physical evidence gathered under the auspices of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program has been hidden from the public. Perhaps the unclassified portions of the scientific work performed by Bigelow Aerospace will now be forthcoming to enable evaluations by independent experts. This was a taxpayer-supported program and some extraordinary claims are being made about the findings in public. It will be unfortunate if investigators are forced to resort to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to discover what was done in this program. However, because it appears requests for research proposals/assistance were issued by Bigelow Aerospace, investigators may be able to pry loose some of the information if it becomes necessary.
The information provided in the New York Times story suggests that opinions as to what was discovered and its significance varied sharply. Senator Reid felt that the findings were so momentous the program needed a higher level of security to restrict access. A director’s summary alleged science fiction had become science fact and the U.S. could not defend itself against some of the technologies discovered. It will be fascinating to see how Defense Department officials receiving such statements weighed them against the hard data to reach a decision that other priorities were more pressing.
Because some of the principals involved in overseeing the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program have been speaking about it openly and exploiting their experiences in a commercial venture, it seems unlikely any entity could now withhold all scientific results by claiming the information is classified. Does Bigelow Aerospace hold physical evidence proving UFOs are real? Do the data prove claims the phenomena did not originate from any country? From a scientific perspective the most fascinating question is this - why would any organization with convincing, apparently unclassified, proof of UFO technologies and their origins keep it secret? Maybe an independent scientific inspection of the evidence will confirm why secret earmark programs are not always good ideas. Evaluating the scientific evidence in hand and comparing it to some remarkable claims promises to be a fascinating exercise.

MUFON In 2009 the Mutual UFO Network entered into an ill fated collaboration initiated by the then-newly launched Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies. The MUFON-BAASS venture was almost certainly a part of the now revealed Pentagon-funded Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program, if not the primary arm of the operation. At the time, MUFON attempted to coordinate widespread training for field investigators described as a rapid response team. The organization soon found itself marred in turmoil which included a large scale exodus of personnel. Public relations were extremely strained as revolving door leadership saw a run of four executive directors in as many years. A lack of organizational transparency was a common complaint, which included the public nonprofit corporation's failure to provide details of funding sources, so before we join the capital-D disclosure celebration, let's consider how the players conducted their affairs up to this point. James Carrion served as Executive Director of MUFON from 2006 to 2009. He is a former intelligence analyst and UFO writer/researcher who pursues forensic historic analysis.

In the fall of 2008, Robert Bigelow approached MUFON with an extraordinary business proposal – a subcontract from a Bigelow subsidiary called Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies, LLC (BAASS) for MUFON UFO investigative services. The MUFON Board signed non-disclosure agreements and the negotiations began.
BAASS essentially wanted MUFON’s field investigators to conduct quality investigations of significant UFO cases, no expense spared, and then to feed those investigations to BAASS scientists. BAASS’ alleged goal for this endeavor was to acquire UFO super technology and then to file patents on this technology. The contract was signed in the spring of 2009 and ran for only a few months before the partnership withered and fell apart towards the end of the year.
Before, during and after this partnership, only one MUFON Board member, former MUFON International Director, John Schuessler, was ever made privy to the money source for the Bigelow subcontract. Now it is public knowledge, courtesy of investigative journalists, that this money came from a Pentagon black budget project.
What are we to make of this public disclosure of the Pentagon’s renewed forage into UFO investigation? If we look back in history when UFOs first hit the mass consciousness in 1947, the nascent U.S. Air Force investigated UFOs through a number of projects culminating in the last official investigation, Project Bluebook, which was killed off in 1969. That is, count it, 22 years of taxpayer dollars spent in the pursuit of “something” that was declared a non-threat to national security.
Fast forward to 2007 and the Pentagon’s Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) – funded allegedly at the behest of a politician and a billionaire who had a common interest in the phenomenon. Are we expected to believe that the Pentagon let almost 40 years pass in-between its investigations before deciding that UFOs were a potential threat? Did the billions of dollars spent prior on air defense against a Soviet, Chinese or rogue nation nuclear attack, or tracking the most minute space junk, simply not detect these UFO threats beforehand?
And is black budget money given out freely at the whim of any politician who wants to study their eccentric interests? Is there a black project currently looking into uncovering Barack Obama’s “real” birth certificate, or whether Ted Cruz’s father was really involved in the JFK assassination or one that is trying to determine how hundreds of thousands of Americans donned an invisibility cloak at the 2017 Presidential inauguration?
And will the disclosure of AATIP just spawn countless other conspiracy theories, like perhaps AATIP is just a shade of gray and that other competing and unacknowledged UFO projects are hidden even deeper in the murky world of black projects?
Today when science is sadly under attack, previously accepted facts take second place to rumor, innuendo and fantasy, and where the alleged leader of the free world spins daily conspiracies and has a severe allergy to the truth, what are we really to make of the Pentagon investigating what it has consistently called a nothing burger? Even after the AATIP was disclosed, some of the data it collected or is still collecting remains classified. Does that mean the American public will AGAIN only get half of the truth?
The question that every American should be asking their elected officials is what did the 22 million taxpayer dollars, earmarked for this black budget UFO investigation project, really buy them and how soon can we the people examine the ENTIRE merchandise? Even more importantly for Congress to investigate is the decision making rationale that led up to this project and why almost 40 years lapsed before UFOs were declared objects non grata in American airspace.
What an in-depth Congressional investigation may reveal is a deeper truth – one that as Sir Winston Churchill once described the former Soviet Union – is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. In reality, we are all tired of enigmas, mysteries and riddles – what Americans really want, indeed what the whole world wants, is just the ultimate truth, whatever that may be.
The MUFON-BAASS train wreck was not the first time activities involving the nonprofit, Bigelow, and cash accountability came under fire. At the turn of the century news leaked of what would become known as the Carpenter Affair. It was soon confirmed that John Carpenter, while serving as MUFON Director of Abduction Research, secretly provided Robert Bigelow data from case files of some 140 "alien abductees" for a reported $14,000. John Carpenter is among those who confirmed what he termed the discreet sharing of data, which reportedly included copies of recordings of hypnosis sessions conducted with the individuals. Carpenter explained during a 2012 email exchange that he confidentially provided the data to Bigelow for review by Bigelow and colleagues at the now dissolved Bigelow-founded National Institute for Discovery Science. Personnel of the Institute included Col. John Alexander, who, according to John Velez via UFO UpDates List in 2000, confirmed what Velez termed the "file sale," as did MUFON then-Executive Director Walt Andrus and Bigelow himself. The 140 people in question, who had sought support from Carpenter and MUFON, were not informed of the arrangement between Carpenter and Bigelow. The specific details of the primary motives and agendas behind the circumstances remain unclear. "We may never know," Elizabeth Chavez Carpenter, former wife of John Carpenter and one of the 140, reflected during a December, 2013, telephone conversation. A lack of accountability is disappointingly common within the UFO community. Its members, often eager for new and intriguing information, frequently fail to question the bookkeeping of the messenger if they support the message. A 1996 AP article which explored Bigelow's interests in the Skinwalker Ranch reported that Bigelow declined to be interviewed, while NIDS employee John Alexander stated details would not be provided of how or why research was being conducted. The article further indicated former ranch owner Terry Sherman, employed by Bigelow to maintain the property, chose not to comment because Bigelow had him sign a nondisclosure agreement. Public trust of MUFON and its collaborators was substantially diminished due to a lack of accountability for the Ambient Monitoring Project. In 2008, long time MUFON and ufology staple Tom Deuley wrote in the MUFON UFO Journal how the approximately ten year-long effort was coming to fruition. Deuley explained funding was in hand to complete analysis already begun on data obtained from instruments placed in the homes of reported alien abductees. The idea was to monitor the environment and discern what, if anything, was physically taking place during alleged abductions. Much to the disappointment of a community eager to hear what happened, no conclusions were ever produced. Explanations were offered by a variety of involved parties as to why no final project report or even summary was published, all of which were inadequate, often contradictory to one another, and sorely lacking in professionalism. The failed project involved a collaboration between some UFO organizations, including the Fund for UFO Research, which Deuley suggested in his 2008 article was a substantial influence. A review of the circumstances revealed, per the FUFOR website circa 1993, "the Fund joined with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) and the Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS) to form the UFO Research Coalition to conduct major projects, at the suggestion of Las Vegas builder Robert Bigelow, who promised major funding." By 1994, it was further reported via the website, "disagreement over control of the UFO Research Coalition lead to a complete break with Robert Bigelow. Laurance Rockefeller appeared on the scene, ready to fund major projects through his intermediary, Mrs. Marie 'Bootsie' Gailbreath." Further research and communications with men listed as members of boards of directors of the involved nonprofit corporations often produced the same inconsistent statements as made publicly, if not implying worse. A 2008 email inquiry to astrophysicist Dr. Richard Henry, listed at the time as a FUFOR board member on the org's website, resulted in the doctor responding he had not heard from FUFOR "in ages." "Let me know if you find out anything!" he added. Bottom Line There is no substitute for an established fact, and facts cannot be established absent evidence available for public review. Some of the material supplied to those reporting on the UFO-Pentagon story, i.e., the DeLonge project, is relevant and offers some value as contributions to the UFO genre. The videos, for example, embody what, by definition, are UFOs. They deserve ample examination by qualified experts. That stated, the public indeed has a valid complaint when taxpayer funds are used to obtain alleged materials that, as of this writing, are not readily available for review. The public also has a valid complaint when public nonprofit corporations, which enjoy tax benefits and offer tax deductions for donors, fail to adequately report their financial activities and agendas. What's more, some of the parties involved in the Pentagon saga have not only shown a willingness to avert from disclosing details of their activities, but an outright effort to conceal them. In doing so, the identities of funding entities have been concealed, financial reporting has been inadequate, and notification of the circumstances to involved parties has, at times, been nonexistent. Just because someone is an intelligence community asset doesn't make them inherently dishonest or nefarious. There are any number of people who assist the U.S. intelligence services in honorable manners. A primary point, as I see it, is that with all the half-truths, lack of accountability, and direct lies within the UFO community, it is impossible to discern the value of someone's claim if they don't produce the beef. Demand it or recognize the situation for what it often is: sizzle and no steak. It might also be unethical at times. The only way to know for sure is to actually find out, and you know what they say about fool me once...

Long story short? The first ever full-genome analysis of Ancient Egyptian mummies has shown they were closely related to populations from the Mediterranean. Some would say this is a history changer.
Even though scientists believed that Ancient Egyptian mummies were all our of DNA, they were wrong. A new study has revealed fascainting—and totally unexpected—results.
According to reports, the first ever full-genome analysis of Ancient Egyptian mummies has shown that they were more Turkish and European than Africa.
Experts studied ancient DNA from Egyptian mummies from around 1400 BC to around 400 AD finding that they shared genes with people who originate from the Mediterranean.
Experts discovered that ancient Egyptian mummies were closely related to ancient people in the Levant, modern-day Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Israel and Lebanon.
The discovery has come as a surprise to many experts.
The sequencing success, reported in Nature Communications, “finally proves to everyone that there’s DNA preserved in ancient Egyptian mummies,” says Albert Zink, a biological anthropologist at the Institute for Mummy Studies in Bolzano, Italy.
According to sciencemag.org, he participated in a 2010 study that identified DNA sequences from 16 ancient Egyptian royal mummies, including Tutankhamun. But that study used polymerase chain reaction, a method that efficiently finds and extracts targeted DNA fragments but cannot always reliably distinguish between ancient DNA and modern contamination.
The researcher’s goals were to establish a comprehensive genetic database to study the ancient past of Egypt for the first time ever.
The ‘history-changing’ study was performed by Johannes Krause, a geneticist at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Jena, Germany, using state-of-the-art sequencing methods to read stretches of any DNA present in a sample and fish out those that resembled human DNA.
Speaking to Mail Online, Johannes Krause said: “The population history of Egypt is complex because it is found at the ispus of Africa, the gateway to a continent, and has seen much historical turnover, Ancient Egypt in the 1millenium BC had been dominated by many foreign powers.”
“It has been much debated whether foreign dominations such as Assyrians, Nubians, Greeks or Romans changed the gene pool of ancient Europe, making them more or less African. “We wanted to test that and found that there is genetic continuity between the old kingdom and Roman period. However in the last 1,500 years, Egypt became more genetically African, whereas the ancient Egyptians showed almost no sub-Saharan African ancestry and high affinity to ancient Near Eastern and European populations,” Professor Krause added.
RUMOR HAS IT Researchers stirred up controversy this year by claiming that a skeleton discovered in a Swedish grave (excavation illustrated above) belonged to a Viking woman warrior. Other potentially big scientific discoveries also generated buzz — and disagreement — in 2017.

Some reports from 2017 hint at potentially big discoveries — if the research holds up to additional scientific scrutiny.
1. Under pressure
Putting the squeeze on hydrogen gas turned it into a long-elusive metal that may superconduct, Harvard University physicists claimed (SN: 2/18/17, p. 14). A diamond vise, supercold temperatures and intense pressure made the element reflective — a key property of metals. But other researchers in the field don’t buy it; one experiment with a slew of caveats isn’t enough to confirm the claim, those scientists say.
2. Woman warrior?
The skeleton of a 10th century Viking woman buried in full warrior regalia has scientists sparring over women’s roles in Viking society (SN: 10/14/17, p. 6). Researchers who confirmed the skeleton’s sex through DNA analysis contend that the woman was a high-ranking Viking warrior, the first Viking woman warrior known. But other archaeologists argue that the bones — with no obvious signs of injury or strenuous physical activity — are too pristine to have seen battle.
3. Blink and you’ll miss it
A far-flung star’s extra wink, spotted in data from the Kepler space telescope and further probed by the Hubble Space Telescope, may be the first evidence for an exomoon — a moon orbiting a planet orbiting a distant star. If it exists, the Neptune-sized candidate moon (dubbed Kepler 1625b i) is roughly 4,000 light-years away and orbits a planet a tad larger than Jupiter (SN: 8/19/17, p. 15).
4. Rooting out hominid origins
The first members of the human evolutionary family may have originated in Europe, not Africa. New analyses of a fossilized jaw (shown) and teeth from Graecopithecus, a chimpanzee-sized primate that lived in southeastern Europe roughly 7 million years ago, suggest that it may be the earliest known hominid(SN: 6/24/17, p. 9). But more complete fossils are needed to determine whether Graecopithecus was truly a hominid.

Despite the fact that there are no direct indications that the mysterious interstellar object known as ‘Oumuamua is anything more than a weirdly shaped asteroid, there are many UFO experts who do not rule out the possibility that it may be an alien space probe.
The enigmatic asteroid—first thought to be a comet—zipped past our planet earlier this year.
Due to a number of characteristics, astronomers eventually decided it would be a good idea to take a closer look at ‘Oumuamua, in order to rule out the possibility that it is more than just a space rock.
Recently, the Breakthrough Listen project used the world’s largest radio telescope to scan the mystery objects for any radio singles it may be emitting. Even though initial scans did NOT reveal anything being emitted from the space rock, a leading Ufologist believes we shouldn’t rule out ‘Oumuamua as an alien probe just yet.
According to Nick Pope, the former head of the Ministry of Defense’s UFO project, even though we haven’t picked up any signals from ‘Oumuamua yet, our scans may have ‘woken the alien intelligence’ inside it. Mr. Pope warns that this move may have turned Aliens toward us, and they may be now watching us.
Speaking in an interview with Sun Online, Mr. Pope said that even though scans haven’t revealed anything yet, we can’t rule out ‘Oumuamua is an alien probe.
“While nothing has been found yet, there’s another intriguing possibility: If this ship is an alien probe, it’s possible that our scans will awake the intelligence inside.”
Some argue that ‘Oumuamua may be an alien probe sent out by an advanced alien civilization to keep an eye on our world.
Whether or not we are looking at an alien space probe is still a mystery.
Mr. Pope added:
“Simply put, any alien ship searching for life may go into a dormant mode until it gets close to an inhabited planet.
“But what’s fascinating about this theory is just how many astronomers and other scientists are taking the idea seriously.
“It’s a sign of how accepting we are these days about the likelihood of finding alien life”
Many consider ‘Aliens’ and ‘UFOs’ a conspiracy theory, even though here is sufficient evidence that shows how worldwide governments have taken the idea more seriously in recent decades. Evidence of that is the recently revealed detail about the Pentagon’s secretive UFO research program that had staggering $22 million dollars budget to research UFO’s and whether or not they pose a threat to National Security.
Speaking about the Pentagon’s secretive UFO research program, Mr. Pope said:
“It’s an amazing revelation, not least because it directly opposes the many specific denials that the US government has issued previously when asked about this subject and their involvement in it.”
“The take-home message here is that there’s probably something out there, but we don’t know what it is.”
Returning to the ‘Oumuamua subject, Mr. Pope argues that it may very well be an alien probe disguised on purpose as an asteroid saying that: “Since there’s no air in space, an alien spaceship would not need to be designed in the same way that our aircraft have to be.”
“Rather than building an interstellar spacecraft from scratch, it makes perfect sense to take an asteroid and then build your ship around it, or hollow it out and build inside it, for the protection you’d derive from being surrounded by so much rock.”

NEW ORLEANS — The giant impact from an Earth-size rock that knocked Uranus sideways may have also helped create the tilted planet's moons, a new study finds.
The poles along which Earth spins are mostly pointed the same way as the poles of the sun and nearly all the other planets of the solar system. However, Uranus is an oddball in that its axis of spin is tilted by a whopping 98 degrees (relative to the plane of the solar system), meaning it essentially spins on its side. No other planet in the solar system is tilted as much — Jupiter is tilted by about 3 degrees, for example, and Earth by about 23 degrees.
Now, researchers in Japan suggest a giant cosmic impact may not only have knocked Uranus on its side, but also created most of the planet's moons. [Photos of Uranus, a Tilted Planet]
Uranus possesses 27 known moons. Eighteen of these moons orbit around the planet's equator, and these "regular" moons make up 98 percent of the total mass of Uranus' moons, said study lead author Yuya Ishizawa at Kyoto University in Japan. The other nine moons are "irregular" in that their orbits are skewed away from Uranus' equator, and prior work suggested these moons were captured after Uranus formed.
In computer simulations, the researchers found that an Earth-size rock striking a newborn Uranus could have helped give the planet its current tilt. At the same time, the simulations found that the rubble from the impact could go on to collapse and form moons with orbits and masses similar to those of Uranus' actual moons.
"Material from the two bodies is ejected in a debris disk, and finally satellites are formed from the debris disk," Ishizawa told Space.com. "It is possible to explain the axial tilt and the formation of the regular satellites of Uranus simultaneously." [The 5 Weirdest Facts About Uranus]
Ishizawa noted that the researchers' initial simulations did predict the formation of a number of moons that would orbit Uranus at distances closer than planet's actual moons do today. He suggested that further research should investigate how the orbit of such moons might decay over time and potentially end up destroying these moons, explaining their current absence around Uranus.
Ishizawa and his colleagues detailed their findings Dec. 13 at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union in New Orleans.

GJ 436b keeps getting weirder.
Astronomers already knew that the Neptune-mass exoplanet is evaporating; a few years back, a research team spotted the huge, comet-like tail of gas that streams behind GJ 436b as it orbits its small, dim host star.
Now, a new study reveals there's something very off about that orbit: It's highly elliptical and takes the alien world over the star's poles. (The "normal" case, exhibited by all eight officially recognized planets in Earth's solar system, is a relatively circular path in line with the star's equatorial plane.) "This planet is under enormous tidal forces because it is incredibly close to its star, barely 3 percent of the Earth-sun distance," study lead author Vincent Bourrier, an astronomer at the University of Geneva in Switzerland,said in a statement.
"The star is a red dwarf whose lifespan is very long," Bourrier added. "The tidal forces it induces should have since circularized the orbit of the planet, but this is not the case!"
Bourrier and his colleagues figured this out after analyzing spectrographic observations of GJ 436b, which lies 33 light-years from Earth in the constellation Leo. These observations were made by the High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher (HARPS) instrument at the European Southern Observatory's La Silla Observatory in Chile, and HARPS-N (for Northern Hemisphere), which is installed at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in the Canary Islands.
The team's calculations also suggest that GJ 436b did not always sport its peculiar tail. The alien world probably once orbited much farther away from its parent star but was pushed inward at some point, likely by an as-yet-undiscovered sibling planet, study team members said.
"Our next goal is to identify the mysterious planet that has upset this planetary system," Bourrier said.
The new study was published online Monday (Dec. 18) in the journal Nature.

1 – 250,000-Year-Old Piece of Aluminum
A chunk of aluminum is on display at the National Museum of Transylvanian History in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
Lab tests concluded it is an old UFO fragment given that the substances it comprises cannot be combined with technology available on Earth.
The piece measures 20 cm (7.8 in) by 12.5 cm (4.9 in) by 7 cm (2.8 in) and looks like something one might dig up while excavating to put in a foundation for a building. The details of the discovery were never made public at the time because it was pulled out of the earth in communist Romania in 1973.
According to tests, the object is made of 12 metals, 90% aluminium, and it was dated by Romanian officials as being 250,000 years old. The initial results were later confirmed by a lab in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Conspiracy theorists suggest object is actually part of a UFO and proof of visitation by an alien civilisation in the past.
2 – Ulfberht Sword

3 – The Mythical Lost Metal of Atlantis
In 2015, 39 roughly-cast lumps of an unusual red-gold metal were recovered from the sea floor 300m off the coast of Gela in southern Sicily. The metal was identified as orichalcum, which was said by Ancient Greeks to be found in Atlantis.

Divers uncovered another 47 ingots from the mud which present unique finding. Scientists claim nothing similar has ever been found yet, orichalcum was mentioned only in some ancient texts and ornamental objects. Indeed orichalcum has long been considered a mysterious metal, its composition and origin widely debated.
Today most scholars agree orichalcum is a brass-like alloy, which was made in antiquity by cementation. This process was achieved with the reaction of zinc ore, charcoal and copper metal in a crucible, which requires modern technology and advance knowledge.

This bizarre, allegedly self propelled, seamless metallic orb was discovered by members of the Betz family in 1974, and rapidly became the object of fascination, controversy and alarm for scientists, military officials, ufologists and the general public as the story of this mystery sphere spread like wildfire through the international media.

During inspecting the damage caused by a brush fire that had raged across an 88-acre swathe of woodland Betz family stumbled across a peculiar highly polished, metal orb that was just under 8-inches in diameter. The only delineating mark that the three could find on the eerily unblemished object was an elongated triangular shape stamped into its surface. Terry Betz decided to heft the 22 lbs., bowling ball sized sphere into their car and take it back home.
And that’s when the Betzes’ lives changed.
It began when Terry was playing guitar. The family reported that the ball strangely resonated the music. And then it began to move around, all on its own. The Betzes experimented with it, placed it on their table, and watched it navigate its own way around the perimeter without falling off. Doors began slamming themselves around the house. Mysterious organ music filled the residence, even though there was no organ. This seemingly impossible defiance of the laws of Newtonian gravity left the Betz tribe thoroughly baffled.
Puzzled by the bizarre sphere, the US military examined it and found it was made of high-grade steel and X-rays revealed there were three smaller balls inside, the object’s origin remains a mystery.
5 – Kera UFO
During the summer of 1972, a similar to Betz metal sphere (though not spherical) anomalous object plagued a group of teens who repeatedly managed to capture and lose a small, self propelled, evidently intelligently guided device over a vexing 4-weeks period in the Kera area of Kōchi City, Japan.
The airborne object resembled a dull, silver hat with a flat bottom and a narrow lip.
The silver, hat-shaped object weighed 1.3 kilograms (3 lbs) and measured roughly 7 centimeters (3 in) tall and 15 centimeters (6 in) in diameter. The bottom surface was perforated with an array of tiny holes and imprinted with designs depicting what appeared to be a bird, some waves, and another flying object. Something rattled around inside the object when shaken.
The strange device came to be known as the Kera UFO. This object’s movements also defied logic and appeared to be motivated by self preservation “instincts.”

Glowing Auras and ‘Black Money’: The Pentagon’s Mysterious U.F.O. Program
The shadowy program began in 2007 and was largely funded at the request of Harry Reid, the former Senate majority leader, who has had a longtime interest in space phenomena.
Crashes in Roswell, New Mexico, and flashing lights over New Jersey — for decades, people around the world have looked up at the skies and reported mysterious unidentified objects (UFOs).
But are these sightings signs of alien visitation? And are they truly unexplained?
A recent New York Times investigation found that the Pentagon had, for years, funded a program to answer just that question. The program found several reports of aircraft that seemed to travel at high speeds and have no signs of propulsion, the Times reported.
While the vast majority of UFO sightings, when investigated, have turned out to be the result of ordinary Earthly phenomena, such as weather balloons, flares or rockets, some still leave experts scratching their heads — and looking to the skies for little green men. Fighter pilot encounter
The Times investigation highlighted one of the most intriguing UFO sightings, which was captured on video. In 2004, two Navy F/A-18F fighter jets (also called Super Hornet or Hornet) encountered a mysterious flying object near San Diego, The New York Times reported. The object seemed to be traveling at high speeds, was surrounded by a glowing halo and was rotating as it moved. According to audio from the event, one of the fighter pilots exclaimed, "There's a whole fleet of them," the Times reported.
One of the Navy pilots who witnessed the bizarre event, Cmdr. David Fravor, recalled that the object looked like "a white Tic Tac, about the same size as a Hornet, 40 feet [12 meters] long with no wings," Fravor told The Washington Post. As his plane approached the UFO, the mysterious object accelerated "faster than I'd ever seen anything in my life," Fravor said.
Fravor, for his part, is convinced that the source of the object was extraterrestrial, he told The Washington Post.
French encounter
In 1981, a 55-year-old farmer in Trans-en-Provence, France, reported hearing a strange, high-pitched sound before seeing a flying saucer nearby. The lead-colored UFO took off almost immediately, he said.
What makes this sighting unique is that the farmer immediately contacted local police, who took soil and plant samples, according to a report of the incident. Experts from France's UFO-investigating body, formerly called Groupe d'Études et d'Informations sur les Phénomènes Aérospatiaux Non-identifiés (GEPAN), said the chemical evidence was consistent with heating of the soil and pressure from a heavy object. They also found traces of zinc and phosphate and evidence of abnormalities in the plants nearby.
However, skeptics said the smooshed plants could have been caused by tires, and cars had been heard traveling in the area around the same time as the farmer's sighting. Because there was a military base nearby, another explanation is that the French military was testing an experimental craft.
Sighting by retired astronaut
In general, some of the most reputable or credible sightings come from those who are in the skies all day long: pilots and members of the military. The National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) logged one such sighting in 2013, Vice reported. Late in the evening in 2013, the man, a former commercial pilot, fighter pilot and astronaut, was looking at the sky with his family in Athens, Texas, when he noticed what looked like an orange, glowing fireball.
"When I looked up into the sky, I saw a fairly large, orange, glowing orb moving rapidly overhead [at] right about 90 degrees of elevation," the man reported to the NUFORC.
After a few minutes, a group of three similar objects followed the same flight path. Three minutes later, two more objects flew along that same route. The objects gave off no sound and seemed to glow from atmospheric heating, the man reported. He and his family attempted to record the objects using their iPhones, though the grainy, dark video was difficult to decipher, he said.
"They moved much faster than orbital satellites (International Space Station, for example) or airplanes, but much slower than meteors and did not change brightness as a meteor would upon entering the atmosphere," the man said in his call. "I have no explanation for what we saw."
Lights over Mount Shasta
Another report from the NUFORC came from an airline captain who was flying between Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon, when he noticed glowing blue lights over Mount Shasta in California that appeared much brighter than the stars typically do in the area.
"The two lights were approximately an inch apart in the windscreen and the size of normal stars," the captain noted in a report. Then, "one of the 'stars' just dimmed out over about a 10-second time span followed by the other one dimming out completely in about 10 seconds also."
"We were flying in crystal-clear skies and were not flying though any clouds whatsoever. These two lights were not following the typical west-to-east orbital path as most satellites do and were just sitting there kind of like ships hiding in plain sight," the captain reported to the NUFORC.
The lights also appeared to be far above the level of the plane, which was flying at 38,000 feet (11,580 m).
Not so U-FOs
For every unexplained sighting, there are dozens that turn out to be military flares, weird cloud formations, weather phenomena or elaborate hoaxes. For instance, GEPAN's database suggests that only 7 percent of all supposed UFO sightings are truly unexplained.
In the 1940s, the U.S. Air Force began investigating UFO sightings, and that program, called Project Blue Book, logged more than 12,000 reported sightings before it was shuttered in 1969. Most of those Project Blue Book sightings were ultimately explained. While a few remained unexplained, the people involved in the program were skeptical that these cases were true alien sightings or completely unknown physical phenomena.
"If more immediate, detailed, objective data on the unknowns had been available, probably these, too, could have been explained," a report in the Project Blue Book archive noted. However, the fact that human factors are involved — in particular, personal impressions and interpretations, rather than accurate scientific data — it's likely impossible to eliminate all unidentified sightings, the report noted.

The questions are as big as the universe and (almost) as old as time: Where did I come from, and why am I here? That may sound like a query for a philosopher, but if you crave a more scientific response, try asking a cosmologist.
This branch of physics is hard at work trying to decode the nature of reality by matching mathematical theories with a bevy of evidence. Today most cosmologists think that the universe was created during the big bang about 13.8 billion years ago, and it is expanding at an ever-increasing rate. The cosmos is woven into a fabric we call space-time, which is embroidered with a cosmic web of brilliant galaxies and invisible dark matter.
It sounds a little strange, but piles of pictures, experimental data and models compiled over decades can back up this description. And as new information gets added to the picture, cosmologists are considering even wilder ways to describe the universe—including some outlandish proposals that are nevertheless rooted in solid science:

The universe is a hologram
Look at a standard hologram, printed on a 2D surface, and you’ll see a 3D projection of the image. Decrease the size of the individual dots that make up the image, and the hologram gets sharper. In the 1990s, physicists realized that something like this could be happening with our universe.
Classical physics describes the fabric of space-time as a four-dimensional structure, with three dimensions of space and one of time. Einstein’s theory of general relativity says that, at its most basic level, this fabric should be smooth and continuous. But that was before quantum mechanics leapt onto the scene. While relativity is great at describing the universe on visible scales, quantum physics tells us all about the way things work on the level of atoms and subatomic particles. According to quantum theories, if you examine the fabric of space-time close enough, it should be made of teeny-tiny grains of information, each a hundred billion billion times smaller than a proton.
Stanford physicist Leonard Susskind and Nobel prize winner Gerard ’t Hooft have each presented calculations showing what happens when you try to combine quantum and relativistic descriptions of space-time. They found that, mathematically speaking, the fabric should be a 2D surface, and the grains should act like the dots in a vast cosmic image, defining the “resolution” of our 3D universe. Quantum mechanics also tells us that these grains should experience random jitters that might occasionally blur the projection and thus be detectable. Last month, physicists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory started collecting data with a highly sensitive arrangement of lasers and mirrors called the Holometer. This instrument is finely tuned to pick up miniscule motion in space-time and reveal whether it is in fact grainy at the smallest scale. The experiment should gather data for at least a year, so we may know soon enough if we’re living in a hologram.
The universe is a computer simulation
Just like the plot of the Matrix, you may be living in a highly advanced computer program and not even know it. Some version of this thinking has been debated since long before Keanu uttered his first “whoa”. Plato wondered if the world as we perceive it is an illusion, and modern mathematicians grapple with the reason math is universal—why is it that no matter when or where you look, 2 + 2 must always equal 4? Maybe because that is a fundamental part of the way the universe was coded.
In 2012, physicists at the University of Washington in Seattle said that if we do live in a digital simulation, there might be a way to find out. Standard computer models are based on a 3D grid, and sometimes the grid itself generates specific anomalies in the data. If the universe is a vast grid, the motions and distributions of high-energy particles called cosmic rays may reveal similar anomalies—a glitch in the Matrix—and give us a peek at the grid’s structure. A 2013 paper by MIT engineer Seth Lloyd builds the case for an intriguing spin on the concept: If space-time is made of quantum bits, the universe must be one giant quantum computer. Of course, both notions raise a troubling quandary: If the universe is a computer program, who or what wrote the code?
The universe is a black hole
Any “Astronomy 101” book will tell you that the universe burst into being during the big bang. But what existed before that point, and what triggered the explosion? A 2010 paper by Nikodem Poplawski, then at Indiana University, made the case that our universe was forged inside a really big black hole.
While Stephen Hawking keeps changing his mind, the popular definition of a black hole is a region of space-time so dense that, past a certain point, nothing can escape its gravitational pull. Black holes are born when dense packets of matter collapse in on themselves, such as during the deaths of especially hefty stars. Some versions of the equations that describe black holes go on to say that the compressed matter does not fully collapse into a point—or singularity—but instead bounces back, spewing out hot, scrambled matter.
Poplawski crunched the numbers and found that observations of the shape and composition of the universe match the mathematical picture of a black hole being born. The initial collapse would equal the big bang, and everything in and around us would be made from the cooled, rearranged components of that scrambled matter. Even better, the theory suggests that all the black holes in our universe may themselves be the gateways to alternate realities. So how do we test it? This model is based on black holes that spin, because that rotation is part of what prevents the original matter from fully collapsing. Poplawski says we should be able to see an echo of the spin inherited from our “parent” black hole in surveys of galaxies, with vast clusters moving in a slight, but potentially detectable, preferred direction.
The universe is a bubble in an ocean of universes
Another cosmic puzzle comes up when you consider what happened in the first slivers of a second after the big bang. Maps of relic light emitted shortly after the universe was born tell us that baby space-time grew exponentially in the blink of an eye before settling into a more sedate rate of expansion. This process, called inflation, is pretty popular among cosmologists, and it got a further boost this year with the potential (but still unconfirmed) discovery of ripples in space-time called gravitational waves, which would have been products of the rapid growth spurt.
If inflation is confirmed, some theorists would argue that we must live in a frothy sea of multiple universes. Some of the earliest models of inflation say that before the big bang, space-time contained what’s known as a false vacuum, a high-energy field devoid of matter and radiation that is inherently unstable. To reach a stable state, the vacuum began to bubble like a pot of boiling water. With each bubble, a new universe was born, giving rise to an endless multiverse.
The trouble with testing this idea is that the cosmos is ridiculously huge—the observable universe stretches for about 46 billion light years in all directions—and even our best telescopes can’t hope to peer at the surface of a bubble this big. One option, then, is to look for any evidence of our bubble universe colliding with another. Today our best maps of the big bang’s relic light do show an unusual cold spot in the sky that could be a “bruise” from bumping into a cosmic neighbor. Or it could be a statistical fluke. So a team of researchers led by Carroll Wainwright at the University of California, Santa Cruz, has been running computer models to figure out what other sorts of traces a bubbly collision would leave in the big bang’s echo.

Astronomer Seth Shostak is skeptical about alien visitation: "It is a little odd that aliens would come hundreds and hundreds of light-years to do nothing."
The Department of Defense reportedly funded a program to investigate unidentified flying objects (UFOs), according to The New York Times and Politico.
One of the program's contractors said he is "absolutely convinced" that aliens frequently visit Earth.
However, scientists who look for extraterrestrial life say the published videos and other materials don't prove aliens were here.
Seth Shostak, a senior astronomer at the SETI Institute, gives several basic arguments for his skepticism about extraterrestrial visitation.
On Saturday, The New York Times and Politico independently published stories confirming that the US government had quietly funded a program to study UFOs for years.
The Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program "collected video and audio recordings of reported U.F.O. incidents," including one of an undated encounter with "an aircraft surrounded by some kind of glowing aura traveling at high speed and rotating as it moves," the Times wrote.
AATIP reportedly started in 2007 to study potential unknown military threats, and was funded by nearly $22 million of Department of Defense "black money".
DoD officials told The Times and Politico that it shut down the program in 2012. But Luis Elizondo, a military intelligence official who ran the research effort, allegedly continued its efforts after that.
Elizondo reportedly resigned in protest of the secrecy surrounding the program in October, and he now helps run a startup to research UFOs called the Stars Academy of Arts and Science.
"These aircraft … are displaying characteristics that are not currently within the US inventory, nor in any foreign inventory that we're aware of," Elizondo told CNN on Monday. "My personal belief is that there's very compelling evidence that we may nto be alone. Whatever that means."
But Seth Shostak, a senior astronomer at the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute, is not convinced — despite making a bet that we'll detect aliens within 20 years.
"If you see something in the air that you don't understand, and you're the guy in charge of the Air Force, you want to know what that is. It doesn't have much to do with aliens, necessarily," Shostak told Business Insider of AATIP's purpose. "But despite more than a half-century of this, the really good evidence that we're being visited still has failed to surface."
Traveling hundreds of light-years 'to do nothing'?
But that isn't the only reason Shostak is skeptical of alien visitation claims.
For one, the distances in space are mind-bogglingly vast. NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft, for example, is leaving the solar system at a clip of 38,000 miles per hour. If the probe was aimed at Proxima Centauri — the closest star to Earth besides the sun — it'd take nearly 75,000 years to reach that system, since it's roughly 4.24 light-years away from us.
Shostak said that alien civilizations would know about our existence if they're within about 35 light-years of Earth, since we haven't been sending signals into space for very long.
"The only way they could know that is to pick up, for example, signals from our transmitters — television, radio, radar, all that stuff. But those signals have been going out only since the second World War," Shostak said. "So if they're more than 35 light-years away, there hasn't been enough time for our signals to get to them, and for them to decide, 'Well this is worth the money to go down there and fly around.' Because they can't go faster than the speed of light, and they probably can't go the speed of light."
Within a generous 50 light-years, there are only about 1,400 star systems.
"That sounds like a big number, but it's a very small number if you're looking for intelligent beings," Shostak said. "Unless they're the next star system over, which is statistically rather unlikely."
Assuming that aliens regularly visit Earth defies logic in other ways, too. In nearly all credible reports of UFO sightings, there's no interaction with the witness (aside from claims of alien abductions, which evidence suggests are hallucinations caused by episodes of sleep paralysis).
"They're the best house guests ever. Because if they're here, they're not doing anything, except for occasionally puzzling pilots. … They don't help us. They don't hurt us. They don't do anything, just sail around." Shostak said. "It is a little odd that aliens would come hundreds and hundreds of light-years to do nothing."
Shostak compared this to Europeans discovering America, but not troubling any Native Americans: "They don't try and take any of their land, they don't bring any disease, they don't do anything; they just sort of walk around at the fringes of their settlements, leading to puzzling sightings, but that's it."
On top of this, Shostak thinks the reasons to visit Earth aren't very convincing.
"I always ask, 'Why are they here now?' They weren't visiting the founding fathers in the late 1700s, they're visiting us," he said. "The Romans weren't troubled by the aliens visiting. It doesn't make very much sense why they're here now."
Rooting out the nature of UFOs
Shostak rejects the notion that the news about AATIP and the Pentagon's footage constitute any proof of aliens.
About 90% of UFO sightings have explanations, he said, and that still doesn't mean the other 10% are aliens.
"It just means they're unexplained," he said. "It isn't that one shouldn't look into these — of course, if there really is something here, it'd be extraordinarily interesting to find out. But the fact that there are cases that are hard to explain and that sound rather convincing would be true no matter what the premise."
Sara Seager, a planetary scientist at MIT who hunts for signs of habitable planets, echoed this idea in the Times' story, telling the newspaper "what people sometimes don't get about science is that we often have phenomena that remain unexplained."
Another area of skepticism for Shostak is that AATIP contracted out much of its work to Bigelow Aerospace in Nevada. The real-estate billionaire Robert Bigelow runs that startup and is friend of former Nevada senator Harry Reid, who started AATIP — in part, according to the Times, due to persuasion from Bigelow. Shostak said he's met Bigelow, and describes him as a "very likable guy" who is a passionate believer in alien visitations, but "not a scientist."
"If you were investigating some phenomenon that you're not sure whether it's for real or not, but it would be extraordinarily important if were real … you would want somebody sort of impartial, I would think," Shostak said. "Giving this case to somebody who already knows what the answer is is maybe not terribly objective."
And then there are the sightings themselves, which likely have far simpler explanations than alien visitations. For example, sightings tend to spike in the summer for a variety of reasons.
Issues with camera hardware, unfamiliar optical effects, atmospheric phenomena, bright stars and planets, and the presence of unmanned aerial vehicles are all common explanations.
Though AATIP's unmasking has vindicated many claims by the UFO community that the government is covering up its research, it "may be a situation where they should have been careful what they wished for," Shostak said. "The government said, 'Well, yeah — we did have a program, and we did cover it up, but we didn't find anything.'"
Indeed, an anonymous senior intelligence official told Politico that AATIP began mostly to root out the existence of unknown Chinese and Russian military technologies. But after a couple of years, "the consensus was we really couldn't find anything of substance," the official said. "They produced reams of paperwork. After all of that there was really nothing there that we could find."
