Spaced-out in the Soviet Union: 3 UFO stories from Russia
Spaced-out in the Soviet Union: 3 UFO stories from Russia
People see - or think they see - UFOs all around the world, and naturally Russia has its fair share of unexplained events. Although there’s no solid proof of contact with extraterrestrials, dozens of people in the country and the former USSR are sure aliens exist.
An alien was reported to appear in the city of Voronezh in 1989.

All around the world people tend to believe that their own country’s special services have much to hide, including information about extraterrestrial civilizations. Russia is no different, nor was the USSR, where many people discussed the omnipotent KGB holding back data concerning alien secrets.
In 2005 Vladimir Kryuchkov, the last head of the KGB, denounced the rumors - firmly stating this in an interview: “There was no single case of receiving material confirming any UFO’s existence.”
According to Kryuchkov, the KGB scrutinized all events in the USSR thought to be connected to abnormal activity. Sadly, the largest country on Earth was found to be short on proven supernatural happenings, including flying saucers and bug-eyed, grey aliens.
However, the former KGB chief’s words did not sway the minds of Russians who were - and are - set on believing the contrary. People continue to discuss encounters with UFOs and space travelers on sites like ufology.ru. While chatting online they tend to agree on one thing: Civilisations on other planets exist and some have visited Earth.
The Petrozavodsk phenomenon
In both Russia and the USSR, most cases of UFO sightings were connected with military experiments mistaken for objects from space. However, there are some instances that can’t be dismissed so easily. Perhaps the most mysterious case occurred in 1977 in Petrozavodsk (696 km northwest of Moscow).
One September night, about 200 people from the Republic of Karelia saw a strange object in the night sky, surrounded by glowing white light. It looked like a cloud emitting bright rays and moved from east to west. There were also reports of similar sightings in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Helsinki, and other cities in the Leningrad Oblast and Finland (all these territories are situated close to each other).
The case later became known as “The Petrozavodsk phenomenon” and was initially attributed to a satellite launch from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome (788 km east of Moscow) that took place the same night. However, Lev Gindilis - a scientist who collected information and statements about the incident for the Soviet Academy of Science - concluded that it was not a satellite, given the direction of its movement, size, and speed. “It’s unfeasible to satisfactorily understand the observed phenomenon,” he wrote in his report. Almost 50 years after, his words are still true.
Stranger things in Voronezh and the Far East
In 1989, while the USSR was on the brink of collapse, an incredibly unusual incident was reported in Voronezh (466 km south of Moscow). A group of children claimed they saw not only a disc-shaped spaceship land in the park they were playing, but also a three-eyed alien who emerged from it. According to the youths, the alien was holding “a 50 cm-long pistol tube” and even attacked one of them before leaving.
Though the children were the only ones who apparently witnessed the alien, some adults confirmed they had seen the UFO that day so the case attracted great media attention. Nevertheless, since no alien traces were found (except for the relatively high level of radiation in the area of the reported contact) the hype soon dispelled.
The small city of Dalnegorsk in the Far East (6491 km east of Moscow) also received its 15 minutes of fame in January 1986 after a spherical object darted across the sky. It crashed into a hill where local ufologists later found samples of metals which, though not necessarily unearthly, were not typical for the soil in the area. Officials from the military base situated nearby denied they had anything to do with the incident, so the ufologists assumed that Dalnegorsk had witnessed the crash of an extraterrestrial spaceship or satellite. Still, scientists neither confirm nor deny this suggestion.

“Lights in the sky” sightings easily comprise the majority of UFO sightings, and have just as easily been dismissed by skeptics as bright stars and planets, conventional aircraft, and—dare I say it?—swamp gas. Now, there is a new bane of a ufologist’s existence—drones. Every kid with an LED-covered quadcopter can spark a viral “UFO” video, even further muddying the already murky waters of “lights in the sky” cases.

So perhaps researchers need to take a step back and look into the darkness—into the far more rare cases of nighttime sightings of craft flying completely dark, without any lights. It’s impossible for skeptics to consign such cases to the “Venus Files” if they are solid, unlit objects. These cases also present a more enticing element, which may or may not be warranted—a somewhat sinister aspect as these craft obviously don’t want to be seen as they are cruising silently just over your head.
The subject of “Dark UFOs” came up recently when I interviewed Lorraine M. about her early 1980s sighting in Putnam County, NY, which was the scene of a major flap in the Hudson Valley which lasted several years.
“I was leaving a party with my friends,” Lorraine explained in a detailed email. “It was 1am and we had parked our cars in an elementary school parking lot. There were about six of us, laughing, having fun. I looked up into the sky to take in the beauty of this clear, starlit night when all of a sudden I noticed an area straight up without stars! ‘What the hell?!’ was my first response! I elbowed my boyfriend and pointed to the sky without saying a word. Immediately he elbowed and pointed upward to the next friend, and so on! We all stood there dumbstruck, looking up, amazed at the sight before us.”
This is a great description of the immediate reaction to such a sighting—no words, just each friend nudging one another and pointing successively on down the line. Lorraine explained that there were no streetlights, and the field of stars was very bright that night. The “colossal craft” had no lights or other form of illumination, so “The only way you could see its triangular shape was how it blotted out the stars!”
“We all stood there, staring upward, mouths agape, bewildered… scared yet amazed…It passed over us at a height that it could nick its bottom on the point of the Empire State Building. And its speed was as slow as a balloon in the Macy’s Day Parade. It passed slowly. Creeping along. Then all of a sudden it shot out from view, then reappeared what seemed like ten miles down further and continued its sloth-like pace.
“We ran to our cars! The next day we learned through the local newspaper that others had witnessed this craft as well! I would say that experience far exceeded any party that night!”
Just to further emphasize her story, Lorraine later emailed me this:
“All of this is the darn truth! I’ll never forget it!!”

This craft exhibited many of the characteristics described by witnesses during the 1980s flap—triangular, the size of a football field, and the ability to go both incredibly slow and impossibly fast. However, whereas most of the other craft witnessed were often described as being lit up like Christmas trees, this one was flying dark.
Around the same time frame of the late 70s and early 80s, a “black disk” was spotted one night in Brentwood, NY, which is on Long Island. A witness reported to MUFON that she went outside to call her cat in for the night when she looked up and saw “a black disk the size of a stop sign at arm’s length” and about the height of a radio tower. It moved very slowly, diagonally over her house and she had time to observe it from both the back and front yards.
Again, there were no lights, and the shape was only able to be determined by the “sky glow” from the neighborhood lights, as the object was silhouetted against the dark sky. There was one other unusual feature the witness described with this craft—“The bottom didn’t appear smooth, it looked like it had sections that were raised, with sharp edges.” Unlike the previous case, however, where the UFO shot off in the blink of an eye, this black craft just quietly floated out of sight.
Yet another different shape of dark object appeared even earlier in the area, a rectangular craft as described in a 1978 NUFORC report from Avon, Connecticut. This case was also different, as what first drew the attention of the witness was a bright light, which apparently shut off as the witness approached.
“I was driving back to where I was staying that night after dropping off a friend. I was driving up a road in Avon, CT, when I saw a bright light up ahead; I thought this was unusual for this time of night [1 am]. I proceeded up the road and when I got to where the light basically was coming from, there was no light present. I looked around in curiosity and discovered an object the size of a house hovering about fifty feet in the air. There was a half moon and visibility was good, this object was very dark and large, there were no lights on and it made no noise whatsoever.
“I parked my car in the middle of the road and left it running with the lights on, hoping someone would come down the road to witness this as well. I stood still in one spot staring at this object for about 5 minutes, fearing what it would be capable of doing. I looked around and saw a house that had its lights on, so I ran over to it and knocked on the door. I waited for a couple of minutes, but nobody answered.
“I ran back to where my car was and the object was still there. I became so scared I jumped in my car and drove off quickly. As I went to the stop sign at the end of the road, I looked up and the object had followed me all the way down the road. I turned to the left and saw the object was still following me, so I floored the gas and never looked back again.”
As if this case isn’t bizarre enough, there was a final twist.
“It took me over a month to tell anyone else, but eventually I told my parents. We ended up moving to an area right where this event occurred, and a neighbor saw the same thing almost one year to the date later. She described the exact same event I witnessed.”

What were the chances that this witness would actually move to the location of her intense encounter, and then find a neighbor who saw the same black, unlit object around the same day the following year?
Another black triangle with no lights was seen by at least three men in 1985. It was around midnight when “Jerry” and his friend, “Matt” were driving from Danbury Hospital toward Brewster, NY on Route 84. The sky was overcast, but not completely dark, due to the sky glow from all the street and building lights. Had it been a clear night, the two friends may not have seen the incredible silent object they witnessed, silhouetted against the clouds.
“It was a large solid, black triangle with no visible sign of propulsion,” Jerry told me. “No exhaust, no propellers. It was low enough that the altitude itself was notable and striking as it appeared to be very low relative to the highway for such a large craft. In terms of speed, I would say somewhere around 80 miles an hour. I am guessing that because we were driving on I-84 and the craft stayed ahead of us during the time we were on the highway, but was not pulling away at great speed. There were no lights that I recall and the craft was a triangle, not the V-shape that I know some others have seen. It would have been travelling at well below stall speed for any conventional aircraft of its size.
“We pulled off the highway at Exit 4 (west bound) and pulled into what I believe was an empty lot where a McDonald’s now exists. There was another motorist who had pulled off for the same reason. He was standing outside his car when we pulled in and we spoke briefly. The three of us; my friend, the other motorist and I, all watched the craft head toward Ridgefield [Connecticut]. The time was likely around midnight, but I don’t know the exact time. It was after 10:00 PM because I called the tower at Danbury Airport the next day to see if they had any idea what it was. They said the tower closed at 10:00 so they had no information at all to offer.”
The most startling case I have had involving a dark craft has to be the one sighted by Jim in Howells, NY, in 1995, if for nothing else, the sheer enormity of the object.
Jim was in his twenties and living at his mother’s house. He went to take the garbage out one night, so he turned on the front porch light. This was no ordinary light, as his mother had installed an extremely bright spotlight that did not aim down, it aimed straight ahead, so the angle of its beam went up into the sky, as well. Without that powerful beam of light, Jim never would have seen what passed overhead.
“It was like something out of Battlestar Galactica! It was an enormous, metallic triangle and I could see a lot of detail.”
The craft did not have any lights on, but as it was only at an altitude of a couple of hundred feet, the spotlight illuminated the underside.

(Credit: Michael Schratt)
“It wasn’t moving really fast, but it was going along at a good clip. Even so, it took many seconds to pass completely overhead.”
I asked Jim what he would compare the size to: a house, a plane, a football field?
“At least three football fields,” he replied without hesitation.
As he began by making a science fiction spaceship comparison, I mentioned the opening scene of Star Wars where the Imperial Star Destroyer just keeps coming and coming across the screen.
“I never thought of that, but that’s what it was like. It was just enormous.”
“Any sound?” I asked.
“Absolutely silent,” he stated. “Had that spotlight not been on, I don’t think I would have even noticed it.”
I asked what his immediate reaction had been to the sighting, and how it made him feel. In the spirit of a picture being worth a thousand words, rather than trying to describe it, he struck a pose and expression of extreme surprise and amazement. That said it all.
What else is in the skies above us that we don’t notice because it has absolutely no form of illumination? Why are some craft brilliantly lit, clearly wanting to be seen, or at least not caring if they are seen? Can we assume that dark UFOs are rare, or are just the sightings of these craft rare because the conditions have to be just right to see them?
Whatever is going on, these cases present researchers a valuable opportunity to sidestep the numerous excuses for lights in the sky and concentrate on the indisputable facts: for reasons we can only imagine, enormous triangles, disks, and rectangles are in our skies displaying no lights, not wanting to be seen. Based upon the cases with which I have personally dealt, and others I have come across in the MUFON and NUFORC databases, I know I will now be starting a new file labeled “Flying Dark.”

A team of researchers from the Australian National University have discovered what could be a huge clue in understanding how animal life emerged on Earth. They claim that when Earth melted from an icy snowball, the resulting flood of nutrients sparked the evolution of complex ecosystems.

This week, in a press release, the Australian National University asserted that a team of their scientists had figured out how animal life came into existence on our planet. The release states, “Research led by The Australian National University (ANU) has solved the mystery of how the first animals appeared on Earth, a pivotal moment for the planet without which humans would not exist.”
The discovery started with ancient sedimentary rock samples from central Australia. The team, led by ANU Research School of Earth Sciences associate professor Jochen Brocks, crushed the rock samples into powder and then “extracted molecules of ancient organisms from them,” Brocks explained in the press release. “These molecules tell us that it really became interesting 650 million years ago. It was a revolution of ecosystems, it was the rise of algae.”
Scientists generally agree that complex, animal life on Earth started some 600 million years ago. Brocks and his team claim that a significant event preceded this. “Before all of this happened, there was a dramatic event 50 million years earlier called Snowball Earth,” he said, referring to a hypothesis that suggests a period when the planet’s surface was entirely frozen from pole to pole.
This event is key for the ANU team’s findings, as it was what made the growth and spread of algae possible. “The Earth was frozen over for 50 million years. Huge glaciers ground entire mountain ranges to powder that released nutrients, and when the snow melted during an extreme global heating event rivers washed torrents of nutrients into the ocean,” Brocks explained.
EVOLVING INSIGHTS
At the end of this frozen period, when global temperatures settled into more hospitable levels, the nutrients that flooded into the oceans sparked the transition from microbial life into a more complex life, Brocks said. “These large and nutritious organisms at the base of the food web provided the burst of energy required for the evolution of complex ecosystems, where increasingly large and complex animals, including humans, could thrive on Earth,” he added.
This study is, indeed, promising and could potentially be groundbreaking. The origin of complex life on Earth remains one of the most puzzling events in science, as the evolutionary jump between single-celled microbes and multi-cellular, nucleus-bearing, mitochondria-powered organisms is simply immense.
Additionally, our understanding of the moment this occurred keeps on evolving. While it’s understood that conditions on Earth became ideal at a certain point to make life possible, being able to pinpoint just what these conditions were — and exactly when they occurred — could better help explain complex life’s rise.
Studies like this ANU research help in achieving this. Recently, a couple of studies have been published that also attempted to shed light into the origin of life on Earth. One suggested that life didn’t just begin in the oceans, but also on land. Another claimed that the so-called Asgard microbes are the bacterial ancestors of human life.
Studying the origins of life on this planet could also help us to figure out how life develops in the cosmos. Right now, the search for extraterrestrial life is a concern that keeps a number of scientists and institutions occupied. Understanding life on Earth might just help us understand life beyond it.
Advanced alien civilizations could find our planet with the aid of Cosmic Maps NASA launched into space some 40 years ago. However, Dr. Frank Drake, the man who helped design the charts has suggested these maps could be dangerous for our species.
This is the diagram carried aboard Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11.

Our quest for alien life goes back more than you’d imagine. But perhaps the most important step towards finding our cosmic neighbors began in the 1970’s when NASA sent maps revealing our planet’s location into space, onboard of four spacecraft in hopes that one day we would be able to communicate if anyone else is out there.
However, despite the fact that sending the maps of Earth into space was a great step for mankind, the creator of the maps—Dr. Frank Drake—has spoken out about the potentially ‘dangerous’ decisions to send the maps into space over 40 years ago.
All f the four spacecraft carrying the maps—Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, and Voyager 2—have left our solar system and are heading towards deep space with our planet’s coordinates embedded onto their body.
Dr. Drake who worked at NASA to design the ‘cosmic’ charts placed on board Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11 launched in 1972 and 1973 respectively believes not everything is positive about sending the maps.
The Voyager spacecraft were launched into space with golden records (pictured) on board.
In an interview with his daughter Nadia Drake, a reporter from National Geographic, Dr. Drake said: “In those days, all the people I worked with were optimists, and they believed how ETs would be friendly, Nobody thought, even for a few seconds, about whether this might be a dangerous thing to do.”
The plaques placed on board the Pioneer spacecraft are a message from our civilization. They depict a man and a woman standing side by side, next to a map of Earth, which plots its position in relation to distant pulsar stars.
Why pulsar stars? Because these stars are long-lasting stars and are so bright that they could help guide aliens in the right direction towards Earth.
The maps on board the Voyager spacecraft are of similar design. The Voyager 1 and 2 feature a golden record on board, with similar pulsar stars to our planet.
NASA wanted to put something on board the spacecraft saying where we come from, who we are, and how long our spacecraft were traveling.
Furthermore, the records also contain various sounds from nature, and noises produced by humans like a train, and a kiss between a mother and a child.
However, despite all potential danger these cosmic charts pose in outer space, Dr. Drake says that the chance of Aliens intercepting the messages and finding out wehre we are are “very small”
“The thing is going something like 10 kilometers [6.2 miles] per second, at which speed it takes – for the typical separation of stars – about half a million years to go from one star to another,” added Dr. Drake.
Apparently, things about E.T. and visitations to Earth changed since the 1970’s. Now it seems more people are inclined to avoiding aliens at any cost.
Now, more experts are leaning towards the idea that we should not reveal ourselves to aliens.
Professor Stephe Hawking said in an interview that if aliens found us, it would be something comparable to when the Native Americans first encountered Christopher Columbus—something that did not turn out so well for the natives.
Stephen Hawking has said that if aliens ever discovered Earth, they would probably want to conquer and colonize it.
One of the most enigmatic crop circles appeared in 2001, on a crop field in next to the UK’s biggest telescope and observatory, the Chilbolton. The enigmatic crop circle was hailed by many as the most impressive and important crop circle to ever appear on our planet, since according to many UDO researchers, this crop circle unlike others, carried a message from space.
Crop Circles have fascinated the general public and Ufologists for decades. For years have experts studied this incredible phenomenon which many have attributed to UFO’s, and how Crop Circles are in fact a message from above, from our cosmic neighbors.
Others—from the skeptical side—are convinced that crop circles are just one of the many elaborate hoaxes trying to prove, we’re not alone in the universe.
Crop Circles—hence their name—appear on crop fields across the world. The term „Crop Circles“ was coined in the seventies by Doug Bower y Dave Chorley. In 1991, they declared that since 1978 they had been authors of more than 200 crop circles, inspired by a formation which appeared in Queensland, which a farmer said to have found after seeing a UFO fly over the zone.
Since then, Crop Circles have been a UFO subject bombarded by critics.
The product of man? Or product of Aliens? The product of the 21st century?
According to Richard Dolan: “The electromagnetic field over the area where a circle appears is usually electrostatically charged. Furthermore, there is a rare form of electromagnetic energy called an “ionized plasma vortex,” also known as ball lighting, involved with these formations.(source)
Well, it a much-debated subject. I mean after all, why would Aliens come all the way to earth from outer space to draw a few crop circles…?
While the term “Crop Circles” was coined in the seventies, the truth is that the first reported Crop Circle dates back as far as 1678.
A pamphlet published on August 22, 1678, called “The Mowing-Devil: or, Strange News Out of Hertfordshire” shows a demon cutting a large circle in a crop field is considered the first precedent of an agroglyph, aka Crop Circle.
However, researcher Jim Schnabel does not consider it as a historical antecedent since the text describes the stems as cut and not bent.
In 1686, naturalist Robert Plot reported circular forms appearing on fungi, which later on would be attributed to air currents, then in 1880, John Rand Capron described circular shapes that appeared in a field after a storm.
In more recent times, things related to crop circles have dramatically changed.
The enigmatic ‘messages’ usually tend to appear over night, while fewer are reported to appear during the day.
Throughout the years the phenomenon has evolved drastically to the point where it’s hard to judge whether it’s a hoax or the real deal.
Nobody doubts that. The crop circle figures are getting bigger, some with more than 200 meters in diameter; Others are more complex in design as if we were witnessing real cosmic “mandalas,” many of them are constructed with an impressive geometrical precision, with knowledge of fractals and allusions to the studies of modern quantum mechanics.
Those who have studied the phenomenon without prejudice, believe that Crop Circles are accompanied by certain characteristics that are relatively unique to them and do not have a rational explanation.
Farmer s who have seen crop circles appear on their fields how they witnessed seeing “flashes of light” or “light orbs” in the sky before their fields were ‘tattooed.’
Richard Dolan, historian, academic, author, and one of the world’s leading UFO researchers explained Crop Circles eloquently when he said (source):
“Some of these Crop Circles are so large and complex as to defy reason. And after all these decades, noneof the perpetrators have been caught in the act of making any of the truly extraordinary formations.”
As a fan of Back to the Future and Doc Brown’s DeLorean time machine as well as someone who still stops and stares longingly when a brushed stainless steel DeLorean DMC-12 drives by, this is the kind of news that makes one want to yell “Great Scott!”. The nephew of the famous car guru John DeLorean announced that the DeLorean Aerospcae DR-7 – a real flying car using the same kind of futuristic technology that went into the DMC-12 – is just months away from traveling the skies … and perhaps time? Where does the line start?
Paul DeLorean is the CEO and chief designer of DeLorean Aerospace, a company in Laguna Beach, California, with a mission John DeLorean and Doc Brown would both be proud of:
To bring the freedom and exhilaration of personal air transportation to the masses. With superior design and engineering, our advanced architecture provides a practical, elegant, and extremely safe alternative to conventional aircraft, with the convenience of airport-free access.
Credit: DeLorean Aerospace
DeLorean’s biggest asset is his DNA. His uncle John started at the Packard Motor Company but became famous at General Motors, where he designed the Pontiac GTO muscle car, the Pontiac Firebird, Pontiac Grand Prix and (proving he was human) the Chevrolet Vega subcompact. Then he became infamous by starting his own car company to make the gull-winged DMC-12. John’s father and Paul’s grandfather, Zachary DeLorean, emigrated to the United States from Romania and eventually worked at the Ford Motor Company factory in Highland Park, Michigan, where he was also a union organizer. Needless to say, transmission fluid is in Paul DeLorean’s blood.
DeLorean Aerospace was founded in 2012 to build a flying car or, in somewhat Doc Brown-ish technical terms, a two-seat vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) personal air transport vehicle. Accrdoing to the website, the DR-7 combines a “zero-emission modern electric power system with a lightweight yet highly stable platform” and will contain a wide variety of futuristic innovations. Not to mention good looks, or as Doc Brown might say, “The way I see it, if you’re gonna build a ‘flying’ machine into a car, why not do it with some style?”
The DR-7 has been designed with a number of unique technologies for improved safety and overall functionality. With an industry-first centerline twin vectoring propulsion system, stall-resistant canard wing, and multiple patent-pending features, our aircraft is intrinsically safer. With an incredibly low drag coefficient, the DR-7 maximizes range under fully electric power.
The DR-7 will be 20 feet (6 meters) long and 18.5 feet (5.5 meters) wide with wings that fold in so it can be parked in a large garage. A one-third scale model has already been built and DeLorean is now working on a full-sized, fully-functional prototype that he claims will have a range of 120 miles per charge and be ready within a year.
At DeLorean Aerospace, we are actualizing the dream of practical and accessible air mobility with our DR-7 aircraft.
As Marty McFly would say … “Whoa!” All that’s left to answer is when and how much. The prototype is expected to be flying sometime in 2018. And the price? For now, you’ll need Doc Brown’s DeLorean to find that out.
Do you suspect there might be a connection between UFOs, aliens and total eclipses? If so, the place to find out on August 21st is in Kelly, Kentucky, which will host its annual Kelly Little Green Men Days Festival at the same time as the total eclipse passes directly overhead. Will the Little Green Men of the 1955 Kelly–Hopkinsville encounter return? Do aliens needs special glasses to look at the eclipse?
The original Little Green Men Festival was held in 2005 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the now-famous close encounter described in detail here and briefly on the festival website:
“On the evening of August 21, 1955, five adults and seven children arrived at the Hopkinsville police station claiming that small alien creatures from a spaceship were attacking their Kelly, KY farmhouse and they had been holding them off with gunfire “for nearly four hours”. Two of the adults claimed they had been shooting at “twelve to fifteen” short, dark figures who repeatedly popped up at the doorway or peered into the windows.”
The incident was celebrated in a musical by The Annoyance Theatre in Chicago called “It Came from Kentucky” and the so-called Hopkinsville Goblins are also said to have inspired the Pokémon called Sableeye. The festival has now become an annual event in Kelly and features live music, an alien costume contest, speakers, authors and vendors selling all manners of UFO and alien wares. The festival will also host the world premier of the movie, “The Invasion of Kelly.”
And then there’s the total eclipse.
On the exact date of the 62nd anniversary of the Kelly–Hopkinsville incident, full totality will occur for 2 minutes, 40.1 seconds in Hopkinsville, the “point of greatest eclipse” according to the website set up for the event, which describes the totality in totality…
“It will actually take about 3 hours from point of first contact until the eclipse has completely passed over head. Point of first contact (when the moon first begins to move in front of the sun) will be 11:56 a.m. CT, with full totality beginning at 1:24 p.m. and lasting for 2 minutes and 40.1 seconds. The last partial phase of the eclipse will end at 2:51 p.m. CT.”
Come for the Little Green Men … stay for the eclipse!
Unfortunately, the website FAQ page doesn’t address the most important question … what should people do if the little green men return for the eclipse? That may be because local officials don’t want attendees coming prepared for another four hour gun battle (firearms and weapons are prohibited from the event). Or it might be because, other than for a brief time the night of the original incident, the Hopkinsville Goblins or little green men have never returned to Hopkinsville, Kelly or the festival held in their honor.
Accounts of close encounters of the third kind, in which human beings are directly confronted with alleged beings from another world, are by nature already quite bizarre and otherworldly enough as it is. There is no denying that this is an area that has pushed out and stretched against the boundaries of the strange and then some, yet there are some cases among these that truly rocket out into the outer fringes of the surreal and the deeply weird. From space goblins to floating brains, to amorphous blobs from beyond and spacemen that can fit in the palm of your hand, here we will look at the strangest of the strange when it comes to supposed contact with aliens from another world.
One of the earlier, weirdest, and indeed more famous of accounts that seem almost too bizarre to possibly be true is the infamous case of what have become known as the the Hopskinsville Goblins. The story begins at a remote, rural farmhouse in the wilds of Christian County, Kentucky, on Old Madisonville Road near the town of Hopkinsville on the night of August 21, 1955. On this quiet evening the Sutton family had a guest over by the name of Billy Ray Taylor, as well as his wife, June, and at at some point Taylor went outside to get some water from the well at around sundown. As he made his way to the well, he allegedly saw a bizarre sight in the air above, which looked like a streaking light that was spewing multicolored sparks and flames all over the place. The light passed overhead and then seemed to drop down into a nearby gully around 300 yards away, after which the humid night was infused with an eldritch glow, and the startled Taylor ran back to the safety of the house.
Once inside, he excitedly told everyone about what he had just seen, but at the time no one really believed him and they thought he was just messing around, despite his obvious fear and insistence that he had really seen it. However skeptical the rest of the family was, they would soon have a change of heart when the dog began to start barking wildly at some unseen trespasser outside in dark. Looking outside it was noticed that what was at first thought to be just a faint light that was seemingly bobbing about and approaching the house, and as it drew closer it was found to be one of the strangest looking creatures anyone present had ever seen or even imagined.
Hopkinsville Goblin
There hovering in the air was a small glowing humanoid figure around 3-feet in height wearing a metallic suit of some sort. It was described as having greenish skin, bulging eyes, and an oversized bald head with bat-like ears and a large, lipless mouth that stretched between them. The body was thin, and its arms were long, tapered and spider-like, tipped with what looked like talons. The frightened Suttons quickly did the human thing, gathering up a rifle and shotgun as the thing hovered around outside, and when it was close enough they fired upon it. Although they thought they had hit it, the creature merely flipped over and retreated into the shadows. Shortly after this, the head of another, either the same creature or another, peeked in through one of the windows, prompting another volley of fire that once again failed to do any noticeable damage to whatever it was, merely blowing out the window in a spray of shards of glass as the strange monster ran off.
Curious as to whether they had hurt the thing or not, Taylor and the Sutton father, John Charley Sutton, warily crept outside, guns at the ready, and took a furtive glance around. At first there was nothing, but then Taylor let out a scream as a clawed hand purportedly reached down from the eve of the back door and grabbed at his head, managing to gain a fistful of hair as Sutton dragged his friend back inside and slammed the door. The oldest Sutton son, 24-year-old Lucky Sutton, then opened the door to take a potshot at the roof with his shotgun, after which the creature floated down to the ground, apparently unhurt, and scampered off.
As bizarre and terrifying as this all was, there soon appeared other entities similar in appearance to the original one they had seen out in the night, and it became apparent that they were under siege by a whole group of the creatures, an estimated 10 to 15 of them. For the next three hours the sounds of the rural Kentucky night were punctuated by the staccato blare of gunfire as the mysterious floating monsters made passes at the house as the family cowered within and took shots at them. For the most part the bullets whizzing out into the murk either failed to hit their mark or were ineffectual, with the few that did hit occasionally letting out metallic pings, like “a coin hitting a metal bucket,” as if the creatures were made of steel. All of this happened against the backdrop of a faint green haze glowing from somewhere in the distance, perhaps the location where the “spaceship” had gone down in the gully.
Since the home had no phone service, the family were at the mercy of the monsters lurking outside, unable to call anyone for help and slowly running out of ammunition. At some point the activity died down, and the creatures’ relentless, seemingly aggressive yet ultimately inscrutable passes at the house ceased. Seeing this as a chance to get out of there, the family and their guests piled into their cars and sped away towards town, where they promptly informed rather bemused police of what had happened to them. As skeptical as they were, officers nevertheless made their way out to the farm to take a look, but found no sign of the reported “goblin” creatures other than the damage inflicted by all of the gunfire. In some accounts, Air Force personnel also came to the farm to investigate the strange occurrence, although it is unclear if they found anything of note.
The police left without incident and the family returned to their home, but soon after a second attack would occur, as glowing faces began to bloom out of the darkness once again, much to their horror. Once again the bizarre beasts came at the farmhouse, floating about, popping up to peer into windows, and scurrying around on the roof as the family once again opened fire, and this went on until dawn, when whatever the strange intruders were stalked off and this time did not return. From the very following day the dramatic, spooky encounter was splashed all over newspapers of the area, fanning out to become national news as reporters and the curious converged upon the farm. Faced with reporters and monster hunters camping out on their property hoping to see the creatures for themselves and the relentless, never-ending media attention focused on them, the family sold their farm and moved off.
It seems like something out of a horror movie, just so incredibly dramatic and bizarre in nature, and it has remained one of the oddest UFO accounts ever. To this day, the Hopkinsville Goblin incident has been picked apart and written of countless times, and has become one of the weirdest and most well-known alien encounters out there. What happened to these people and what was it that came down to seemingly attack them? What did these things want? Were they ever even real at all? If they were, then whatever they were, one things seems clear; they certainly seemed to have not received the warmest welcome to Earth.
Other such inexplicably bizarre alien encounter reports were made throughout the 1950s as well. In 1957, a retired teacher named Mary Starr allegedly woke up in the middle of the night in her home in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, in the U.S., to see a piercingly bright light outside of her bedroom window. The object was described as floating over her yard, and seemed to be a large craft of some type with rectangular windows on its sides. Fascinated by what she was seeing, Starr then supposedly gazed into one of the windows and could see two decidedly bizarre entities moving about within, which were about 4-feet tall. According to the witness, they had translucent cubes for heads holding within them bright red cores, rubbery bodies that were like “skirts,” and handless appendages akin to tentacles. After a moment of observing the outlandish beings, the windows then apparently vanished as if they had never been there, and an antenna or protrusion of some sort came out of the craft, after which the whole thing began to glow before silently shooting straight up into the night sky.
The following year, in 1958, there was a weird account from Sweden, in which witnesses Stig Rydberg and Hans Gustafsson claimed to have been driving along a remote road through a thick fog at around 3 AM when they spotted a UFO measuring around 12 feet across and ringed by four “jelly bags” that were blue in color and which jumped wildly about through the air around the main craft. As the two men stopped their car to look on at the unusual sight, the four entities then reportedly descended and attacked them, demonstrating some sort of suction power with which they grabbed the witnesses and began pulling them up to the craft. The two horrified witnesses claimed that they had tried to struggle to get away, but that their arms and legs merely sank into bodies composed of gelatinous ooze that smelled like “ether and burnt sausage.” Somehow Rydberg managed to squirm free, after which he laid on the car horn and this apparently startled the creatures enough for them to drop the other man and retreat into their ship to take off into the night at astronomical speeds. The two men would say that they felt sick for days after the encounter with the “space blobs.”
The 1970s really brought a wealth of such incredibly bizarre apparent alien encounters, and some of the best can be found in this era. On August 19, 1970 there was a curious encounter in the country of Malaysia. On this day, six children were apparently playing in a forested area when a tiny UFO measuring around 3 feet across came down to land in a clearing, after which five miniature, 3-inch tall humanoids descended out of the vehicle wearing odd blue spacesuits and one in a yellow helmet adorned with spikes. The diminutive beings then marched over to a tree and seemed to be busying themselves with installing some sort of mechanical device to a tree. One of the kids apparently went over and tried to grab one of the little creatures, and it promptly shot at him with a “ray gun,” injuring his thigh. Interestingly, there have been many other such sightings of mini UFOs and humanoid beings in Malaysia as well, with the witnesses typically being children.
The following year, on August 17, 1971, there was a perhaps even stranger alien encounter from Palos Verdes, California. Witnesses John Hodges and Pete Rodriguez were allegedly headed to their car at 2 AM when they saw off through the trees a faint, mysterious glow emanating from beyond. They got into their car, switched on the headlights, and their suspended in the beams of light from their vehicle were what were described as two large, blueish entities that looked just like disembodied human brains, hovering right in the middle of the road and surrounded by clouds of vapor that seemed to cling to them. The larger one of the “brains” was described as having a prominent red eye set within it, and this is the one that began to move towards the vehicle for purposes unknown.
The two terrified men understandably got out of there as fast as they possibly could, and it was later noticed that they had 2 hours of missing time. In 1976, Hodges would undergo hypnotic regression after years of being plagued by nightmares and wondering what had happened to them out on that lonely road. Under hypnosis, Hodges revealed that he had dropped Rodriquez off at home and arrived at his own house to find the larger brain waiting for him there, which had then telepathically spoken to him. He claimed that he had then been taken into the brains’ ship to some sort of “control room,” where it was revealed that they were merely telepathic tools being used by other aliens, this time more akin to the “grey” aliens typically described in more mainstream reports, although in this case they stood over 7-feet tall.
These master aliens then apparently showed Hodges various images of nuclear war and destruction as they explained that the human race had grown too powerful for its own good. He was also shown another planet that had been completely destroyed by another race that had met the same fate, and was admonished that humankind would be the “instruments of their own fate,” telling him, “Take the time to understand yourselves. The time draws near when you shall need to!” Hodges then says that he felt a potent buzzing sensation in the back of his head and found himself back in his own car. In the years after, he became convinced that these aliens had implanted him with what he called a “translator cell,” and that he received frequent telepathic communications from them through this device, in which they made dire predictions such as an apocalyptic war in the Middle East and the future widespread use of nuclear weapons. Whether you think this story and its “space brains” has any truth to it at all or not, you have to admit it is a damn strange tale all the same.
Also quite unusual is the encounter reported by Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker, who on October 11, 1973, were fishing on the Pascagoula River in Mississippi. As they cast their lines out they suddenly began to hear a series of strange hissing, whirring noises coming from behind them. When they turned around to look, they apparently came face to face with an egg-shaped spacecraft hovering over the river not far away, and a door then opened to regurgitate forth baffling creatures that really defy any easy classification. There standing in the doorway of the craft were three 6-foot tall beings with grey leathery, wrinkled skin and thin, carrot-like protrusions jutting out of their heads. The hands and feet were said to be fused into pinchers, and the eyes and mouths were just slits.
Just as they were reeling from the shock of seeing such a thing, the men realized that they had been somehow paralyzed by an unseen force, which kept them glued to where they were. Stuck as they were, the two witnesses made easy pickings for the bizarre aliens, who plucked them up and dragged them aboard their unearthly vessel. Hickson would later claim that he was brought aboard the ship and brought to a room with a blinding light, in which he was subjected to an examination by an oval shaped robotic probe of some sort. After around 20 minutes, the two were deposited back onto the bank of the river and the mysterious craft floated off. Hickson then claimed that he had found Parker on the riverbank as well in a rather disheveled state, crying and praying to God.
The two went back to their car and sat there in shock for an undetermined amount of time, before heading home. They would later contact the Kessler Air Force Base and the local sheriff with their bizarre tale, which went about as well as you would expect. No one really took the eyebrow-raising story seriously, but the whole case inevitably became splashed about local newspapers soon after. Hickson in particular went on to entertain questions on the matter and even help publish a book about the whole incident called UFO Contact at Pascagoula, while Parker ducked out of the limelight, and eventually moved out of state to avoid the constant media attention. For is part, Parker claimed that he had passed out at the beginning of the ordeal and only come to after it was over, only recalling bits and pieces under hypnosis.
The case was picked apart by some of the most eminent UFO researchers at the time, who for the most part agreed that the men at least really believed that what they had seen was real. The case of the Pascagoula aliens has since been met with a good amount of skepticism. It has been called everything from a shared hallucination to a flat-out lie, which has only been made more complicated by the fact that Hickson’s account only seemed to get more and more bizarre and complex as time went on. It has been suggested that they had a shared imaginary experience, that they were drinking, or even that they were just tripping balls on LSD at the time, but no one really knows what happened except the two witnesses themselves.
Moving on into 1977, there is the weird account of 19-year-old Lee Parish, who on January 27, 1977, claimed that he spied a rectangular UFO hovering in the sky before he was whisked into the air by a beam of light while driving home. He then found himself upon some sort of spacecraft, where he was presented to three very bizarre beings. One of the entities was described as being like a black “tombstone” 20-feet high, with a robotic arm extending from its front. Another of the things was smaller and looked like a red prism of some kind, while yet another was 6-feet tall and described as being a motionless white prism with two robotic arms and a “wedge-like” head, which produced strange noises like teeth being brushed.
At the time, Lee had the strong feeling that the white one was the leader, although he did not know why he had this impression. During the encounter, the red one was seen as the most anxious, seemingly afraid of their human guest and hiding behind the others, although it did at one point extend a robotic looking arm to try and touch him, which produced a vague, unsettling sensation of coldness and pain. Eventually, the three beings lined up and seemed to merge together, after which Lee felt a warmth permeate his body and soon found himself back in his vehicle, along with 38 minutes of missing time. It is all rather odd to say the least.
Moving on to 1977 we come to Paciencia, Brazil, where 33-year-old bus driver Antonia La Rubia was allegedly walking to work when he spied a rather strange object shaped like an “enormous wide hat” sitting in a field Soon after he noticed the mysterious craft, it lashed out with a thin, bright beam of light, which caught La Rubia and whisked him away to a room of pure white. Within this room were various mechanical-looking beings with bright scales and arms like tentacles, as well as egg-shaped bodies and heads adorned with what appeared to be antenna. Instead of legs, the strange creatures reportedly sat upon rigid pedestals of some sort.
After this initial meeting, the frightened La Rubia claims that he shouted at the creatures, which seemed to have the effect of making them cower in fear. He lost consciousness again, and when he awoke he says that he was now subjected to a series of images projected onto the wall, including various surreal scenes such as a dog being melted and a train entering a tunnel, the meaning of which could not be discerned. At one point during this screening of oddities and grotesqueries one of the robot beings apparently reached out to draw blood from one of La Rubia’s fingers, after which it splashed it across a wall to form a pattern of three circles and an “L” shape. At this point, La Rubia claims he lost consciousness once more, and when he awoke he was purportedly back in his car, vomiting and dizzy from the whole puzzling ordeal.
In Italy the following year there was the case of Pier Zanfretta, of Italy. On December 6, 1978, Zanfetta was working as a security guard doing his rounds when he apparently saw four bright lights approaching him. He went out to investigate with pistol drawn and saw that the source of the lights were reptilian being standing 10-feet tall, with green, saggy looking skin, heads adorned with spines, and in place of a mouth a strange breathing apparatus. Upon noticing him, these entities purportedly shot out some sort of heat beam, which sent Zanfretta running in terror. He would later be found by another security detail passed out on the ground. When the area was checked there were found to be a series of large footprints imprinted into the ground and scorched branches in the trees, lending some credence to the dramatic story the witness would weave.
Zanfretta would go on to outline several more encounters with the lizard-like beings, in which he would be brought aboard their spacecraft and experimented upon. They would also introduce themselves as beings from the planet “Teetonia.” During his last visitation in December of 1980, the aliens supposedly brought him to a mothership fashioned of a crystalline substance and shown aliens resembling frogs which were being held captive in tube-like structures and which the reptile aliens claimed were an enemy species. Other captured alien specimens in the menagerie aboard the ship were shown as well, including bird-like creatures, tiny reptilian saurian beasts, and some sort of troglodyte that looked somewhat like “a caveman.”
These are just some of the weirdest reports of alien encounters I have come across, and there are certainly others as well. What are we to make of such cases? These are creatures that do not fit at all into the traditional reports of UFO occupants, and one wonders just what this could all mean. Are these different species or races? Something from another dimension? Are they shapeshifters that just take whatever form they want, regardless of how outlandish? Or are these just the result of hallucinations, psychosis, hoaxes, tall tales, or just the effects of drugs and alcohol? Whatever the answer to these questions may be, such insanely bizarre reports certainly add color to the already colorful world of close encounters, and hint that this is a phenomenon that is perhaps even stranger and more inscrutable than anyone can guess.
The mysterious object, otherwise known as Nibiru, is said to be due to enter the solar system at some point in the near future and will wreak havoc on our galactic neighbourhood.
Paranormal researchers believe Planet X is so large an affect on our solar system is already taking place as it supposedly counters the sun’s gravitational pull.
The highly controversial Planet X – which is an supposed planetary object that supposedly lurks on the edge of our solar system and is heading inwards - will cause the apocalypse on Earth which will wipe out most of the population, say conspiracy theorists.
And the believers in the extraordinary claim say there is global cover up to stop the public finding out about Planet X.
This was supposedly confirmed by paranormal YouTube channel ‘UFONEARSUN - myunhauzen74’, which uploaded a video which claims to be proof that Nasa and Google are trying to hide the mysterious object.
In a video titled ‘Hiding NASA: Planet "X " - Nibiru observation in Google Sky’, the piece shows you that if you head to a small patch in the sky beyond Mercury then it is strangely blacked out which they claim is proof that Planet X is approaching.
Some believe Nibiru could hit Earth as soon as September, fulfilling a Biblical prophecy.

Nibiru is behind this patch, according to conspiracy theorists
By analysing biblical texts and astronomical signs, theorists state 2017 is the year that Planet X will arrive, and herald the end of days.
Revelation 12:1 says: “A great sign appeared in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun with the moon under her feet and a crown of 12 stars on her head.
“And being with child, she cried out in her travail and was in anguish of delivery.”
GETTY
Planet X will cause the apocalypse, according to some
This, according to Christian researcher Bob Meade, is proof enough that the end is nigh.
He says: “The great sign of The Woman as described in revelation 12:1-2 forms and lasts for only a few hours. According to computer generated astronomical models, this sign has never before occurred in human history.
“It will occur once on September 23, 2017. It will never occur again. When it occurs, it places the Earth immediately before the time of the Sixth Seal of Revelation.
“During this time frame on September 23, 2017, the moon appears under the feet of the Constellation Virgo. The Sun appears to precisely clothe Virgo.
“Only the one that occurs in 2017 constitutes a ‘birthing.’ This is when planets traverse within the legs of Virgo.”

Robert MacNaughton played Elliot's older brother, Michael, and has been revealing some remarkable moments about the film shoot.
He told Yahoo! Movies that the original ending was far more low-key. Even though it lacked the overt emotional punch of the final version, it still provided a sense of catharsis and also symbolised how Elliot had grown up thorughout the movie.
Even more excitingly, it also demonstrated that Elliot was still in contact with his alien buddy.

E.T. kids Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore and Michael MacNaughton
MacNaughton said: "The last scene in the movie wasn’t supposed to be the scene that ends up in the movie.
"The last scene was going to be all of us playing Dungeons and Dragons again, except this time, Elliott’s the dungeon master. Because he was the one that found ET, he sort of got in with the group. And so that was supposed to be the final scene, it was in the script and everything, and then they would pan up to the roof and you’d see the communicator and it’s still working — in other words, Elliott is still in touch with E.T.
"But after they did the score, the music, and they saw what they had with the spaceship taking off and everything... How can you follow that? I mean, it was a wise choice."
At the start of the movie, Elliot was shown trying to join in with Michael and his friends when they were playing a version of Dungeons and Dragons.
They kept pushing him away and eventually send him out for Pizza. This, of course, leads to his first ever encounter with a certain friendly botanist from another planet.
Dungeons and Dragons was always being played at the house of E.T. screenwriter Melissa Mathison and her husband at the time, Harrison Ford.
MacNaughton revealed that his own childhood love of the game may have helped him get the part.
Henry Thomas auditions for E.T.
He recalled his first meeting with Spielberg: "One of the things he asked me was, 'What do you like to do?' I said, 'Well, I ride bikes a lot.' He goes, 'Yeah, that’s in the movie.'
"And I said, 'I play Dungeons and Dragons.' And he goes, 'That’s in the movie too.' [Laughs] So it was just I said all the right things, I guess."
MacNaughgton retired from acting when he was 30 and now works for the US postal service.

UFO NEWS: 'Perfect 1950s flying saucer' filmed above crop circle
UFO NEWS: 'Perfect 1950s flying saucer' filmed above crop circle
A CROP circle "expert" claims the mysterious corn field formations could be caused by aliens or other paranormal forces after allegedly filming a series of UFOs over the baffling creations.
UFO proof? Pierre Beake claims to have snapped bizarre craft over crop circles.
Pierre Beake insists he captured these pictures of UFOs hovering over or near crop circles.
Mr Beake, who travels from France to the south west of England each year to study the phenomena, also claims to have photographed strange lights and orbs within west country crop formations.
Crop circles - allegedly made by landing UFOs - have been widely considered one of the world's biggest paranormal hoaxes since 1991, when Doug Bower and David Chorley were filmed showing how they made many of the reported corn field patterns discovered across the UK.
The two said they simply used wooden planks and rope to flatten corn in a circular fashion.
The pair started the tomfoolery in the 1970s to tease locals who believed in UFOs.
In the latter half of the 1990s more "circle makers", who tried to out do each other with the most complicated designs, emerged.
Pierre Beake
This UFO is like a 1950s flying saucer, claims Pierre Beake.
But despite the hoaxers outing themselves, Mr Beake refuses to believe they could make the "highly geometric" patterns he has documented.
Mr Beake produced his UFO images at the 27th annual Glastonbury Symposium, an event which started to look at the crop circle subject and now covers other new age issues.
He said: "When you go first into a crop circle you can't explain the feeling. "You feel good, you feel nice."
He produced one image which he said resembled a B-movie flying saucer.
He said: "It looks like a classic 1950s UFO. One researcher said to me it was a parachute, but there is no one underneath."
Mr Beake is convinced something paranormal is behind crop circle formation and that his UFO snaps could be part of the picture.
He says he has also photographed balls of energy and light at crop circles.
In one case he said he filmed bizarre solid balls flying around.
Pierre Beake
A perfect circular object filmed over Silbury Hill.
He said: "It was a very strange form and not a plane or helicopter."
But he said it was not seen at the time of the filming, but was physical because the sun could be seen glinting on it.
Another one was filmed at Milk Hill, also Wiltshire.
He said: "I can't explain why that thing is here, it looks more physical than other balls of light."
Scott Brando, who runs debunking website ufoofinterest.org said so-called UFOs such as these were often birds or insects that had flown past and been blurred in the process, giving rise to the indistinguishable shapes.
They are actually referred to as blurbs by sceptical UFO researchers.

Witness freaks out after seeing dark elongated shape in the clouds over Sanford, Canada (Video)
Witness freaks out after seeing dark elongated shape in the clouds over Sanford, Canada (Video)
On July 9, 2017, a resident of Sanford MB in Canada was making hay when he noticed that something very strange happened in the sky.
According to the witness, it was as the clouds seemed to funnel towards a dark object, which at first glance looked like a dark human-like figure standing on top of a cloud before it changed into a dark elongated shape.
Although he felt freaked out during seeing, he then witnessed the elongated shape fired something into the air.
As it was dark shortly and he had a lot of work to do, he got back to concentrating on his job instead of staring to the object that sat in the sky, but not before he took some images of the object as well as he recorded the strange appearance in the sky which files he has submitted to the Mutual UFO Network (Mufon case file) for further investigation.
Strange UFO object discovered in photo taken of “Witch Rock” formation outside Shingletown, California
Strange UFO object discovered in photo taken of “Witch Rock” formation outside Shingletown, California
A strange UFO object has been discovered in a photo taken of a rock formation near Shingletown, California. Interestingly, the object is similar to a UFO object which has been photographed by passenger on the Durango/Silverton train in Colorado, see third image below.
Witness states: A guy I was dating had taken me out for a jeep ride around the back forest roads of Lassen National Volcanic Park, outside of Shingletown, California.
I noticed a rock formation that had a face that looked very much like a classic hook-nosed witch.
I couldn't get a very good photo due to the distance away with my phone's camera, so he returned the next day with his DSLR to photograph the formation for me (to which I had given the name "Witch Rock").
He took several photos of the formation, and I noticed in one of them, there is a colorful object just below the witch's nose.
Interestingly, several photos were taken in quick succession, but only this one photo shows the object.
Zooming in on it, it appears to be a cigar-shaped shape, casting a shadow on its underside.
It must have been moving faster than the eye can see, because my friend observed nothing in person. The fact that it stands out grey against the white clouds behind it says it was somewhat near. The images were submitted to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON case file).
The belief that aliens are controlling or possessing you is more common than you might think. For a variety of reasons, these kind of thoughts can suddenly occur and can have tragic consequences.
At the moment there is an ongoing trial in New South Wales, Australia, of an unnamed 44-year-old woman. She is accused of killing her young daughter sometime after Christmas 2000, to sacrifice her to the ‘wolfman’.
Michelle Hanlon, a friend of the woman, told the NSW Supreme Court D the woman disappeared for three days, and on returning said she had gone to the top of a hill to wait for aliens to take her home.
The wolfman, who rode a motorbike and was allegedly stalking her, was trying to prevent her from going with the aliens. To stop him, the woman believed she had to kill her daughter to distract the wolfman and enable thein Newcastle that by the late 1990s her personality had changed and had become very melancholic. After taking LS aliens to save her.
A similar harrowing and tragic case involved 57-year-old grandmother Gloria Stephens. Fearing that an alien machine, like a giant vacuum cleaner, was going to suck her two grandchildren to another planet, she stabbed one of them to death with a kitchen knife. She thought that by killing 10-year-old Tasha, 7-year-old Andrea and herself they would escape the aliens and get together again in paradise.
At her Old Bailey trial in June 1986, it was revealed that Stephens had boasted that in past lives she had been ‘Diana the huntress’ and various kings and queens. Her interest in all things psychic was dominated by a fear of aliens, who allegedly made regular visits to her and on several occasions had beamed her onboard their craft. She even kept clothing and personal effects in plastic bags ready for the day when she expected the aliens to take her away for good.
In June 2004, schizophrenic Graham Abram leapt out of bed and drove off in a car shouting: “Can you see the force, can you see the force?”
He thought he was St Peter being chased by demonic aliens, as he drove at high speed on the wrong side of the road in Leeds, Yorkshire. After covering two miles he was overtaking cars on Hill Top Road, Bramley when he drove head-on into a car being driven by 75-year-old pensioner, Dennis Rose. Mr. Rose died at the scene of the accident. At Leeds Crown Court, Judge Trevor Kent-Jones said that 47-year-old Abram had suffered a ‘quite sudden and unexpected severe relapse’.

As the following cases show, driving away from an alien menace seems to be a common factor.
A year earlier, on Saturday 19 July 2003, Roderick Nigel Martin was involved in an alien-induced accident. After nearly hitting six vehicles he finally had a head-on collision with a car driven by 66-year-old Raymond John Turner. Mr Turner died from his injuries.
When Martin appeared at the Ballarat Magistrates Court in Victoria, Australia in 2005, his defence was that he had stolen the truck to escape aliens whom he thought were trying to take over human bodies. He was given a 14-year jail sentence and ordered to serve at least 10 years in prison.
At 4.51am on 21 June 2000 Eric Michael Clark was driving his pick-up truck in Flagstaff, Arizona when he was pulled over by police officer Jeff Moritz. Clark, a 17-year-old high school senior, shot dead the officer. His defence was that he suffered from paranoid schizophrenia. He had thought his parents were aliens and that the town was also populated by aliens, and that some disguised as government agents were out to kill him.

A chain of tragic events started when Scott Krause’s girlfriend kicked him out of their home. On the afternoon of 6 January 2004 he stole a truck from a petrol station and sped off towards Nevada County Airport. Swerving and weaving across the traffic lanes of Highway 49 he eventually hit a UPS truck being driven by 34-year-old Drew Reynolds. The UPS truck careered into a utility pole killing Reynolds.
Krause’s defence was that he believed he was being pursued by ‘man-eating subterranean beings’ whom he thought were trying to capture him and send him to China. He called these beings ‘hemodrones’. He drove erratically because alien voices in his head increasingly warned him that they wanted to eat him alive.
27-year-old Allison Lamont Norman went on a shooting rampage in April 2005. It began when he shot to death Jamell Weston and wounded his cousin Marcus Cannon at the Carvel Gardens apartment complex in Laurel, Delaware. Wearing a bulletproof vest and brandishing a hand gun he went to a nearby shopping centre where he shot and wounded another man. Stealing a car he drove to Salisbury, Maryland, where he shot two dogs, wounded two more men and shot to death DaVondale M. ‘Pete’ Peters.
During his trial, held in Delaware in June 2007, defence attorney Brendan O’Neill told the court that Norman went on this spree because: “He thought there were aliens everywhere.”
Surprisingly, such delusions have a long history, with incidents stretching as far back as the 19th century. Chris Aubeck, the author of a forthcoming book on this subject, has discovered several instances, including one described by the Philadelphia Inquirer of 14 February 1896 as a ‘queer case’. This concerned a vagrant called John Moriety who said he and his brother were shot to Earth from the Moon by a mortar. Landing in Jersey he said it was his mission to reform the laws of the State.
In October 1900, a suspicious man lurking on a street corner in Anaconda, Montana ran away from the police. When he was caught they asked him why he ran away. His reply was that he had jumped out of the moon and he thought any man who jumped out of the moon had a right to run.
Another vagrant called Carmichael, who was arrested in Western Australia in 1907, declared he was from Mars. Allegedly he was 5,000 years old and his mission was to collect information that would make it easier for his Martian friends to signal the Earth.
This possession or control by alien entities can be viewed as a variant of the demonic possession that has long haunted humanity. Alien possession is a mental phenomenon that might be triggered by trauma, drugs or underlying psychological or psychiatric problems.

Some, however, take the more direct option that alien possession is exactly what it says. The late Dr. William J Baldwin believed that aliens in nearby spacecraft are able to communicate with your mind when you are in an altered state of consciousness. He thought aliens are scientists and technicians who are conducting a long-term genetic experiment with the human race.
Another strand to this viewpoint is that secret government agencies are brainwashing people and that they have equipment that can control minds at a distance. Some even think that these activities are done in conjunction and with the cooperation of the aliens.
Whatever the causes, the outcome of a belief that aliens are trying to get us or our loved ones can lead to tragic and fatal consequences.
If someone asked you to point on a globe to where the highest concentration of volcanoes on Earth might be, where would your finger land? Indonesia? Mexico? Italy? East Africa? If your index digit first flipped the globe over before poking Antarctica … congratulations! Your lucky guess has just been confirmed by a new study which found 91 previously unknown volcanoes under the ice in western Antarctica. Is the continent’s frozen surface in danger of melting from below as well as above?
“The big question is: how active are these volcanoes? That is something we need to determine as quickly as possible.”
That somewhat panicky statement comes from Dr. Robert Bingham of the University of Edinburgh’s School of GeoSciences where researchers conducted a first-of-its-kind study that identified 91 volcanoes measuring from 100 meters (328 feet) to 3,850 meters (2.4 miles) in the area known as the West Antarctic Rift System. The project was suggested by Max Van Wyk de Vries, a third-year student at the school who went looking for volcanoes in what would seem to be the least likely place on Earth.
“Antarctica remains among the least studied areas of the globe, and as a young scientist I was excited to learn about something new and not well understood.”
According to the results published in the Geological Society Special Publications series, the research team used Bedmap 2 DEM, a digital elevation model, and data from ground-penetrating radar and satellite imaging to survey the underside of Antarctic ice for peaks of basalt rock, which is a volcanic indicator found when some of these peaks have actually poked through the ice. While they weren’t surprised to find more underground volcanoes, Bingham says they were shocked at the number.
“We were amazed. We did not expected to find anything like that number. We have almost trebled the number of volcanoes known to exist in west Antarctica.”
Are any of these newly-discovered Antarctic volcanoes active? That’s a good question which needs seismic analysis to answer. However, previous studies indicate that there was volcanic activity on the Antarctic continent during previous periods when it was warmer and the current warming trend (you remember the recent big iceberg, don’t you?) could thaw them out and stir them up again.
“If one of these volcanoes were to erupt it could further destabilise west Antarctica’s ice sheets. Anything that causes the melting of ice – which an eruption certainly would – is likely to speed up the flow of ice into the sea.”
Mount Erebus craters
If you think Dr. Bingham sounds worried, you’re right.
“The most volcanism that is going in the world at present is in regions that have only recently lost their glacier covering – after the end of the last ice age. These places include Iceland and Alaska.”
I don’t live near any of these places but I may think twice about throwing salt on my driveway this winter.

Meteorenzwerm
Graancirkel Hannington (Frank Laumen)
