Did the Smithsonian Institute cover up the mind-boggling discovery of an ancient Egyptian Colony in the Grand Canyon? According to a news article from 1909, the answer is YES.

Is it possible that the ancient Egyptian civilization developed technology to travel across the planet? I’m not talking spaceships, but transoceanic voyages made possible with their grandiose vessels?

In recent years, more evidence has emerged which supports the idea that ancient civilizations like the Egyptians, the Chinese and even possibly the Olmec achieved trans-oceanic voyages before written history suggests.

While scientific responses to pre-Colombian trans-oceanic contact vary over time, most ideas which support this possibility have been treated with skepticism since such an idea radically opposes what we are told about history.

The idea that there is, or was an ancient colony in North America belonging to the ancient Egyptian civilization is something that according to many only occurs in Hollywood movies.

However, according to the front page of the April 5, 1909, edition of the Arizona Gazette, a bizarre discovery was made in the Marble region of the Grand Canyon that points towards an ancient Egyptian presence in North America thousands of years ago.

According to the newspaper, two alleged Smithsonian-funded archaeologists Prof. S. A. Jordan and G.E. Kinkaid made the fascinating discovery that according to many proves history is inaccurate.

The report -shrouded in mystery reads:

(D)iscoveries which almost conclusively prove that the race which inhabited this mysterious cavern, hewn in solid rock by human hands, was of oriental origin, possibly from Egypt, tracing back to Ramses. If their theories are borne out by the translation of the tablets engraved with hieroglyphics, the mystery of the prehistoric peoples of North America, their ancient arts, who they were and whence they came, will be solved. Egypt and the Nile, and Arizona and the Colorado will be linked by a historical chain running back to ages which staggers the wildest fancy of the fictionist.

The article notes that the mysterious set of caverns was located in an extremely remote part of the Grand Canyon, dangerous and nearly inaccessible. The alleged site is reportedly located 2 miles away from El Tovar Crystal Canyon.

According to the Arizona Gazette, the entrance to the main cavern was located some 1500 feet below an abrupt cliff.

However, people believe all of this is part of an elaborate hoax and that the discovery was never made.

Furthermore, the Smithsonian Institute denied all claims indicating that no record of a so-called Kincaid or Professor Jordan exists in the Smithsonian’s Department of Anthropology.

Moreover, the Smithsonian denies there is any evidence of artifacts gathered.

In the book, Suppressed Inventions by Jonathan Eisen, a spokesperson from the Smithsonian Institute denies any ancient Egyptian artifacts were found in the Grand Canyon.  

Well, the first thing I can tell you, before we go any further, is that no Egyptian artifacts of any kind have ever been found in North or South America. Therefore, I can tell you that the Smithsonian Institute has never been involved in any such excavations.

Was this just another hoax? Can we conclude that the entire story is just an elaborate newspaper hoax as many indicate? Or is it possible that the Smithsonian Institute -which has been called out in the past for covering up history changing discoveries- covered up the mind-boggling discovery?

Reading through the book Suppressed Inventions, we have found out fascinating details that give the story of an ancient Egyptian colony in North America an entirely new level.

“…Historian and linguist Carl Hart, editor of World Explorer, obtained a hiker’s map of the Grand Canyon from a bookstore in Chicago. Poring over the map, we were amazed to see that much of the area of the north side of the canyon had Egyptian names. For example, the area around Ninety-Four Mile Creek and Trinity Creek had areas with names like Tower of Set, Tower of Ra, Horus Temple, Osiris Temple and Isis Temple.  In the Haunted Canyon area are such names as the Cheops Pyramid, the Buddha Cloister, Buddha Temple, Manu Temple and Shiva Temple…”

Is this just a small worthless coincidence? Or is there more to the story than meets the eye?

Interestingly, the area of the canyon where the Egyptian names are located is an area off limits. It’s a forbidden zone. No one is allowed to enter it and explore it. The great question is why? Why is it off limits? Is it because the mysterious vaults and ancient Egyptian artifacts are real? And they are located there? Even today, the mysterious area of the canyon is a restricted zone, off limits for hikers, explorers and even park personnel.

The story of the mysterious ‘lost ancient Egyptian colony‘ in the Grand Canyon is filled with mystery.

What if professor Kincaid and his colleague professor Jordan did exist and worked for the Smithsonian Institute but under another name?

Or is it possible that the story printed by the Arizona Gazette is an elaborate hoax, an attempt to increase sales for an ‘unknown’ local newspaper? after all, only the Arizona Gazette wrote about the alleged discovery.

If something of this magnitude was real, wouldn’t other newspapers have rushed and printed the magnificent story?

While it is impossible to say for certain whether or not the caves exist, and ‘someone’ actually recovered ancient Egyptian artifacts fro the caves, we know that the Ancient Egyptians were capable of alot of things, and they could have had the ability to travel to the Americas.

Evidence of that an intriguing set of glyphs located in Australia (another finding highly debated).

While the mysterious glyphs, known as the Gosford Glyphs, are considered as a hoax by mainstream scholars, many people believe that the Gosford Glyphs are just one of the many pieces which point towards Ancient Egyptian large-scale oceanic voyages.

But in addition to the above, there are quite a few indicators which suggest the ancient Egyptians sailed around the planet and had the ability to perform large-scale oceanic voyages thousands of years ago.

Another intriguing fact that points towards ancient Egyptians traveling to the Americas or vice-versa are the mummified remains of Lady Henut Taui. The mummy, analyzed by German scientists Svetla Balabanova, contained traces of cocaine and nicotine, something that had never before been found.

But why was the discovery a groundbreaking one? Well, cocaine and tobacco were only found in the Americas in the distant past. These plants were not exported until the 19th century, a fact that suggests that somehow, ancient Egyptians could have traveled in the Americas 3,000 years ago.

UFO PROOF AT LAST! HUNDREDS SIGHT MYSTERIOUS FLYING SAUCER AS ‘BIG AS A PLANE’ HOVERING OVER GENEVA STADIUM: MASS EXCITEMENT ON FACEBOOK  [VIDEO]

There was excitement in the city of Geneva in Switzerland last Wednesday after hundreds of people took to social media to report sighting a mysterious UFO that hovered in the dark skies over the La Praille area of the city near the stadium.

Scores of excited witnesses took to Facebook moments after the sighting to upload photographs and videos of the mysterious object.

The UFO hovered over the Geneva stadium area for about 20 seconds at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, before speeding away. Witnesses said they saw the shape and form of a solid object hovering in the sky very clearly. It was a dark-colored circular object that glowed brightly in the night sky as it took off and sped away after hovering for several seconds.

Others described it as oval-shaped and flat-topped.

Matías Vitkieviez, a Servette FC footballer, took to Facebook to report his experience, according to RT.

“Everyone sees the same thing as me? It’s completely crazy! UFO above the industrial area behind the stage of la praille #ufogva.”

A witness told Tribune de Genève that he saw the circular shape of an enormous UFO in the sky and that it was “as big as a plane.”

As it hovered over the stadium area it emitted a strange shrill noise, the witness added.

“It was about 8:30 p.m.,” he continued. “The phenomenon lasted about 20 seconds and the object departed at once, as if it was burning.”

“We can hardly see anything on the photo, but we clearly distinguished an oval and flatted-shaped object with three lights; then it quickly disappeared,” another witness, identified as Sacha, reported on Facebook.

The website 20 Minutes reports that Sacha said he had always been skeptical about UFOs but the sighting on Wednesday evening over the stadium changed his attitude.

“It changed my way of thinking. Let’s say that before I believed 30 percent in UFOs, now I believe 70 percent.”

The mystery of the strange craft over the Geneva stadium was compounded when the control tower at the Geneva International Airport responded to inquiries, saying that surveillance radar did not detect any unusual activity over the La Praille area between 8 p.m. and midnight.

The response by the control tower sparked a furious debate on social media, with hundreds of people confirming to skeptics that they saw a massive saucer-shaped UFO hovering over the Geneva stadium for several seconds before it sped away.

But some skeptics suggested that witnesses may have seen a drone equipped with LED lights.

However, an expert who analyzed images taken by witnesses concluded that the object was unlike any drone he had ever seen. According to Fabio Chironi, an aerial photography expert, the craft was simply too big to be explained away as a drone. He also argued that analysis of the footage did not reveal an aerial object resembling any known model of a drone

“Usually [drone] lights are arranged under the arms and not the ends,” Chironi told Tribune de Genève. “Moreover, they are of different colors to distinguish the front from the back. Finally, the object appears to be too big to be a drone.”

And although Chironi had no idea what the flying object might have been, popular UFO blogger Scott C. Waring was convinced, as usual, that he knew exactly what it was.

Waring claimed that the UFO was almost certainly a TR3B UFO.

“In the two videos posted to Facebook, I notice that there are three lights in the sky which make it look like a TR3B (alien tech in USAF hands), which could be USAF or it could be actual aliens,” he argued in an October 15 post to his UFO Sightings Daily blog.

According conspiracy theorists, TR3B crafts, also known as “black triangle UFOs,” are a new generation of advanced stealth reconnaissance aircraft developed by the USAF under decades-long Pentagon black projects.

The technology on which the alleged crafts are based was inspired by decades of reverse-engineering research conducted by teams of U.S. government scientists working in secret with alien UFOs recovered from several UFO crash sites, including Roswell in New Mexico.

The USAF TR-3 series includes prototypes, such as the TR-3A Black Manta, and the more advanced TR-3B prototypes that allegedly include the Aurora and the Astra.

Although the U.S. government has never acknowledged the existence of the alleged TR-3 crafts, alien hunters claim there have been hundreds of authenticated sightings following the first reported sightings in the 1980s over the Antelope Valley in southern California.

However, Waring argued that the craft that appeared over Geneva was possibly not a reverse-engineered USAF TR3B craft, but one of the original alien crafts that inspired the design of the USAF TR3Bs. And one reason why he thinks it may have been an alien craft was the observation that it released a “dozen tiny glowing white drones” while hovering overhead (see video above).

“I think it is a real alien craft because I see there are a dozen tiny glowing white drones that leave the UFO and fly about just over the houses,” Waring commented.

Another reason why he thinks it may have been an alien craft was that it appeared the UFO “cloaked” itself while hovering but began glowing brightly after it powered up and sped away

“Although an alien ship can cloak itself, when it powers up its propulsion to shoot away, it will glow and be visible at night,” he wrote.

UFO hunters believe that after many decades the U.S. government is still keeping the original alien crafts recovered from the UFO crash sites, including one recovered from a site near Roswell in 1947, and another recovered from a sight near Kecksburg, Pennsylvania in the 1960s.

Thus, the UFO that appeared over the Geneva stadium may have been an alien craft manned by a human pilot or a UFO manned by ETs visiting Earth from space.

It is believed that government scientists and engineers were able to repair the crashed UFO crafts and human pilots learned through trial and error, during decades of reverse engineering efforts, to fly them.

Phil Schneider – A man in the know who paid the ULTIMATE price?

Phil Schneider was very loud and clear about what he says that he learned about the extraterrestrials whilst working under a top-secret ‘high security’ clearance for the American Government.

Phil was mocked heavily by the media when he came out with such controversial statement.  Although many people around the world, including Veterans Today senior editor Gordon Duff, had a lot of faith and belief in Schneider and even declared him in public as a “UFO whistleblower.”

Phil Schneider then went on to state that the Human Abductees, which could have been in the “thousands” could very well of been ‘eaten’ by the Alien Beings – Phil confirmed that at least nine races of aliens see us human beings as merely as a “a bag of food” and nothing else! Apparently this very special type of metal is made of niobium, an element we have on the periodic table, and marinate, which is in fact an alien element you won’t find mentioned ANYWHERE in Earth’s textbooks or science books!

Another piece of Alien technology the Human race gained off certain Extraterrestrial Beings was a spy satellite that could spot a coin on your kitchen floor.  This technology apparently infrared technology and had a resolution factor of 99.99961.  Paul confirmed that it was only the military that had ideas for this level of technology and it is all something that is now put into use in todays modern military equipment.

BUT according to Schneider the Aliens “violated the pact” and took more humans than what they should have done.  This is when an undercover war with the Aliens was declared.  Phil confirmed that the Aliens plan to rid the world of the worlds governments and the Elite, and that they plan to take over in 2029.

Phil gave a stark warning before his death –  “We don’t have a whole heap of time left.” and urged the Governments to tell the people of this planet what they have done and what is coming in 2029!

Sadly Phil Schneider died not long after making these brave statements to the world.  He never did quite fully explain whether it was just the world leaders that the Aliens want to rid this planet of in 2029, or was it the Human Race as a whole?!

What with NASA confirming that they have discovered potential ‘habitable planets’ with similar living conditions to planet earth, Kepler 452b being one of their more recent finds, which is about 60% larger than planet earth and up to 1.5 Billion years older (just imagine the potential advancement of any beings on that planet!?).  We also have leading professors such as Stephen Hawking helping to fund Alien hunting projects, something he has usually dismissed as too dangerous!?

And on top of all this ‘apparent’ influx of drip-feeding, we now even have the Catholic church ADMITTING to the world that Extra-terrestrials exist! Something which has caused a few raised eyebrows around the world – something that most religions has DISMISSED until recently.

UFO Tails A Helicopter With Top Turkish General On Board

News crews covering a rescue operation of a general after a failed military coup in Turkey has videotaped a strange UFO. The July 16 news footage shows an unknown object in the sky in the background of the rescue operation from the pro-coup military of the Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar. It was recorded a day after the failed takeover.

He was flown to Cankaya Lodge in a helicopter when the unidentified flying object registered in the distance for approximately three seconds.

A conspiracy theory has emerged claiming that aliens monitor major activities in the world and watch the failed coup attempt closely.

NASA Cameras Capture Massive Blue Sphere Near The Sun

A blue sphere, believed to be massive, was noticed in front of the Sun through NASA cameras. The find captivated the imagination of UFO enthusiasts.

The mysterious images from the website of the space agency made the rounds on Facebook after Pamela Johnson uploaded it on November 15. Pamela claimed that the Sun reacted to the giant UFO.

NASA’s STEREO H1 satellites, which orbit the Sun, reportedly captured the picture. Pamela noticed several missing frames from the feed in the days after the unusual sight had surfaced.

She said the sun is casting the light from the left side of the frame. He added that the satellite’s archives showed the sun started reacting to the mystery object on November 15 and several frames are missing on the 15th and 16th.

The YouTube video that features the images has garnered nearly a hundred thousand views as of this writing. It has been met with enthusiasm and skepticism.

Mike Sovereign said that NASA would not be careless to allow something similar to it to reach the public. He speculated that something might be projecting the image in space, a project blue beam or holographic.

Youtube user mrfaithandphysics said the surface patterns are not the same to any spectrum or details of the Sun, suggesting it isn’t the sun. He added that it appears and disappears out of nowhere and doesn’t move through the frames.

OTTAWA—A drone? A weather balloon? A piece of garbage swept up by the wind?

The pilots of a Porter Airlines flight inbound to Toronto on Monday morning were forced to put their plane into a sudden dive to avoid a mid-air collision with an unidentified object high over Lake Ontario, causing minor injuries to two flight attendants.

Now investigators with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada admit they have a puzzle on their hands to determine exactly what the pilots had to avoid.

“Nobody knows at this point. It happened so quick,” said Peter Rowntree, senior regional investigator with the safety board.

“We’ve got our work cut out trying to figure out what this unidentified flying object was. What did they encounter?” Rowntree said in an interview.

“It definitely wasn’t a bird. It was a fairly large object,” he said, describing it as up to three metres wide.

There were initial concerns that the object was an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), or drone, highlighting once again worries about their growing prevalence and the risks they pose to aviation.

Rowntree said it was too soon to say for sure. But he said the location of the incident — at 2,743 metres (9,000 feet) over the lake near the U.S. border, far from shore — is reason for concern if it was a drone.

The Porter Dash 8-400 turboprop was on its initial approach to Toronto’s Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport from Ottawa when the two pilots saw they were on a collision course. They had mere seconds to spot the object and react to avoid the danger.

“They essentially just pushed the nose down to get underneath it,” Rowntree said.

“It’s a big sky out there, so the fact they even saw it is something,” he said, noting that the aircraft was travelling at almost 450 kilometres per hour.

Two flight attendants suffered minor injuries in the evasive manoeuvre. They were taken to hospital and released. None of the 54 passengers on board the flight were injured, airline spokesperson Brad Cicero said.

At first the pilots believed the object was a balloon, but later thought it could have been a drone, Cicero said.

The proliferation and capability of unmanned aerial vehicles has been a growing worry for pilots who fear a catastrophic mid-air collision. By Sept. 1, there had been 82 reports of potential UAV infractions in Canada this year, compared to 97 in all of 2015 and 61 in 2014, according to Transport Canada.

Transport Minister Marc Garneau’s office said Monday that “‎new, clearer regulations” for drone use would be released in the coming months.

Transport Canada recently launched an awareness campaign to encourage drone operators to fly their vehicles safely — and away from flight paths and airports.

Existing rules already restrict the use of drones around airports and at higher altitudes to minimize the risk of a potential collision. But there are calls for Transport Canada to do more to raise public awareness.

“I don’t believe the word is getting out,” said Dan Adamus, Canada board president of the Air Line Pilots Association, International.

“That’s the problem. People just look up in the sky and they don’t understand it’s airspace that aircraft use,” he said in an interview.

He said a mid-air collision with a drone would likely be worse than hitting a bird and could easily disable a control surface, cause an engine failure or shatter the windscreen.

And he said the pilots association wants Canada to follow the lead of the United States and require owners to register their UAVs with the federal authorities, a formality that may encourage some to be more responsible in how they fly the vehicles.

“We certainly recognize the potential of remotely piloted aircraft for a whole variety of reasons, but they can’t compromise aviation safety,” he said.

Rowntree echoed that concern.

“It’s only a matter of time before — and you hate to say it — an airplane is going to hit a drone,” he said.

Martian Ice Deposit Holds as Much Water as The Largest Great Lake

BENEATH THE SURFACE

If we want a successful manned mission to Mars, and an eventual human colony, we have to start looking for all the possible resources on the Red Planet – especially a water source.

Researchers have found a large amount of frozen ice beneath a cracked and pitted plain in the Martian surface. The frozen mass is likely carrying as much water as Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes in the US.

The ice was found on Mars’ Utopia Planitia region by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter’s Shallow Radar (SHARAD). Analyzing data from more than 600 overhead passes, the research team estimates a thickness from about 79-171 meters (260-560 ft). The ice is made up of about 50 to 85 percent water, mixed with dust and other solids. It is buried underneath 1-10 meters (3-33 ft) of Martian soil.

“This deposit probably formed as snowfall accumulating into an ice sheet mixed with dust during a period in Mars history when the planet’s axis was more tilted than it is today,” said lead author Cassie Stuurman in a statement.

CLIMATE RECORD

The deposit accounts for around one percent of all water found on the planet. This might not sound like much, but it does double the frozen ice beneath Mars’ northern plains. And, the ice can easily be tapped by astronauts or any mission that wants to do so.

“This deposit is probably more accessible than most water ice on Mars, because it is at a relatively low latitude and it lies in a flat, smooth area where landing a spacecraft would be easier than at some of the other areas with buried ice,” said Jack Holt, co-author of the paper.

Any Martian water found, even in ice form, can be a candidate for searching for signs of life on the Red Planet. Ice can contain evidence of any life form that may have resided there. Also, like what we do with Earth’s own polar ice, scientists can use the deposit to learn more about the climate of Mars thousands of years ago.

“Sampling and using this ice with a future mission could help keep astronauts alive, while also helping them unlock the secrets of Martian ice ages,” says co-author Joe Levy.

A UFO was spotted over a hill in Colorado yesterday. The web camera caught a black UFO moving over or from the mountain top. The UFO is low to keep out of sight, but was it coming from a base below this area is the real question. The UFO is in this are for a reason, and Colorado is a hotbed for alien activity along its mountains.

I was monitoring the Winter Park, CO, ski resort town web camera (for my job -- we do operational cloud seeding for the resort to increase snow pack and use the cameras to monitor weather conditions). The frames update about every 3 mins, to my knowledge. In one frame, there was nothing but the normal view. Next frame, black disk-like object appears just over mountain top. Next frame, nothing. Too close to the mountain to be a drone or plane. Confirmed with the resort that there were no helicopters present this morning. Given the distance/size of object, it is unlikely that it was a bird, bug, etc. My colleagues and I have been using this webcam for years and this has never occurred before.

Australia Joins The Hunt For Aliens With A Huge Dish Telescope

Scientists in Australia are aiming a huge dish telescope at Proxima Centauri, one of our close solar neighbors, joining the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.

Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf star a mere 4.25 light years from us, where an Earth-like planet ― dubbed Proxima b ― is believed in orbit. Proxima b may have temperatures that could allow liquid water to exist there, scientists speculate.

The next logical jump is speculation that Proxima b may be habitable.

The Parkes Radio Telescope (pictured below) in New South Wales will lend a hand, er, dish to the mix, scanning for radio frequencies that might originate from unknown civilizations in space, reports the Aussie Network News.

This photo, taken in 1969, shows the telescope as it was around the time of the first manned Moon landing. CSIRO's Parkes radio telescope was officially opened on the 31 October 1961 by the Governor-General, Viscount De L'Isle forty years on, it is still one of the most advanced telescopes of its kind. A gigantic structure of steel and concrete, the telescope soars nearly 55 metres into the sky near Parkes NSW. It played a crucial role in receiving signals during the Apollo 11 Moon landing in 1969, relaying them for broadcast to an audience of 600 million around the world.

This is Australia’s first collaboration with Breakthrough Listen, a 10-year, $100 million global effort to actively search for intelligent alien life, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization confirmed.

As reported by The New York Times, Breakthrough Listen was launched in 2015 by billionaire tech investor Yuri Milner. The project’s international supporters include renowned physicist Stephen Hawking, astronomer Frank Drake, who founded California’s SETI Institute (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence), Cambridge University’s Lord Martin Rees, and Ann Druyan, co-author of the “Cosmos” television programs and widow of astronomer Carl Sagan.

“The addition of Parkes is an important milestone,” Milner told Australian media. “These major instruments are the ears of planet Earth, and now they are listening for signs of other civilizations.”

Locating a verifiable intelligent alien radio signal is basically like looking for a cosmic needle in a haystack. But scientists believe Earth’s most powerful telescopes are the best chance of helping to answer the question of whether earthlings are alone in the universe.

John Reynolds, program director for Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, said he’s not convinced the Breakthrough Listen project will make history, according to Australian Network News. But no matter what, he added, the search effort isn’t pointless.

The Parkes radio telescope can tilt 60° from vertical and would take 15 minutes to perform a 360° rotation.

“I’m a bit of a skeptic, but I like the idea,” Reynolds said. “I think it is actually real science, even though the chance of success is small. It’s definitely a question that has to be answered, and you won’t find out unless you actually look.”

Video – The Spanish Ministry of Defense declassifies 1,900 pages of top-secret UFO files

Another step towards global UFO disclosure. The Spanish Ministry of Defense has declassified 80 reports of alleged UFO sightings that took place between 1962 and 1995.

The Spanish Ministry of Defense has declassified 80 confidential reports containing around 1,900 pages of alleged UFO sightings that were recorded above Spanish airspace between 1962 and 1995.

The material is available to the public in the online library of the Spanish Ministry of Defense. The reports include the location of the sighting, the date, the summary of facts, considerations, conclusions and the proposed classification or declassification of each document.

The declassification process of the documents began in 1991 when the Ministry of Defense decided to analyze the reports and reduce their classification level in order to make them available to the general public which demanded access to these documents.

Fascinating accounts – inexplicable phenomena

One of the most interesting UFO sightings was reported by pilots and crew when President Adolfo Suarez was traveling from Germany to SPAIN.

The strange UFO was spotted at an undisclosed location. The encounter occurred when former President Adolfo Suarez, was on board an aircraft of the Spanish Air Force. The pilots and passengers onboard witnessed strange lights that could be explained. It remains unclear as to where the sighting took place. The report reads: “During night hours on February 25, 1980, onboard the 401st Squadron aircraft on a flight from Germany to Spain, Madrid with President Suarez, strange lights were observed by the pilots and passengers“.

Furthermore, the declassified documents reveal a number of different sightings that occurred over SPAIN when UFO’s were detected by radar but were invisible for pilots who were sent out to intercept them.

A document which dates to the 28th of November 1979 indicates that numerous individuals observed two UFOs in Madrid. A military plane was sent out to search for the UFOs. The pilot of the intercepting aircraft didn’t see anything, even though “the weather conditions were excellent” and “radar contact had been established four times” the report reads.

That same report details other sightings, one of them occurred on November 27, 1979, when “lights in the sky, were observed by many people” and “unknown echoes” were recorded.

Furthermore, the report details how in 1971, a “luminous object was spotted following a T-33 in Talavera-Getafe route”; and in 1977, mystery lights were seen above Madrid.”

The first UFO sighting over Madrid was recorded on December 11 of 1968. Two witnesses reported at 20.05 hours and 20.30 hours the presence “of a very bright object with changes in brightness,“ in the southwestern parts of the capital.

Dinosaur-Killing Asteroid Blew a Hole in Earth's Crust

A huge chunk of the planet was liquified in the explosive impact event.

About 65 million years ago, a space rock six miles wide came hurtling towards Earth. When it hit, it bore a hole 18 miles deep, potentially smashing right through the crust and into the mantle, and leaving scars on this planet that remain to this day.

That’s the conclusion of a new study published in Science, part of an international research project that drilled cores of rock off the Mexican coast this year in an effort to uncover clues to the evolution of planets, and the extinction of all non-bird dinosaurs.

The study, led by Joanna Morgan of Imperial College London and Sean Gulick of the University of Texas at Austin, used rock samples from the Chicxulub crater to unlock the secrets of how asteroid and comet shape the planets they collide with.

The Chicxulub crater is the only one on Earth with a known peak ring, which is a circular formation of elevated material within the larger crater but offset from the center. These peak rings are familiar sights on rocky planetary bodies, including the moon, although on Earth they disappear relatively quickly through erosion and geological forces.

Core samples from Chicxulub’s peak ring, drilled from shallow ocean waters in the Gulf of Mexico, offer Earth-bound scientists a close look at where the material that formed these peaks came from.

There are differing theories about how peak rings form. In one model, the impactor drives deep into the planet, causing an upwelling of molten and solid rock, like the backsplash of a raindrop falling on water. This rises miles up overhead before collapsing and ultimately settling into an elevated ring of material that encircles the impact site. A less dramatic model shows the peak ring rising up like a splash around the center of the crater.

The researchers’ results show that the former is more likely, based on the composition of rocks sampled from the Chicxulub peak ring. This means that dinosaurs nearby would have been in for one hell of a volcanic show, at least until the blast of heat from the explosion got them.

If the Chicxulub asteroid carved a hole 18 miles deep, it could have seen a column of molten rock rise nine miles above Earth’s surface before collapsing under its weight. The air would have filled with fireballs, starting forest fires for thousands of miles around. Earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis would have ensued, and when the planet fell quiet, the air would have been thick with enough ash and soot to blot out the sun.

It was, by any standard, a dark day for the planet, and up to 90 percent of all Earth’s species would ultimately go extinct in the aftermath. But, if you take the long view, it was also a moment of rebirth, when the stage was set for new species, and ultimately humans, to inherit the Earth.

The researchers plan to continue studying Chicxulub’s rocks, and answer how catastrophic impact events can open new spaces for the emergence of life, despite their enormous destructive power.

Rocks uplifted in the event ended up less dense and more porous, Gulick tells LiveScience. “When you get rocks with 10 percent more pore space, microbial life living below the surface may find new habitats on the surface. Our next area of research involves looking at whether ecosystems can get started by craters.”

CURIOUS SPACE ODDITIES

Fast Radio Bursts (FRB) are astrophysical phenomena that manifest through millisecond-fast radio chirps that occur randomly. As of now, only 18 have been picked up, and scientists aren’t sure what causes them. Some theorists claim they are caused by collisions between two aging stars, while others assert they come from younger, fast-spinning neutron stars called pulsars.

A new discovery published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters might narrow down these causes even further. The paper reports on the discovery of gamma waves that accompanied FRB 131104, named after the date of its discovery — November 4, 2013. The waves were found using data gathered by NASA’s Swift, a satellite designed to detect gamma ray bursts. This is the first time high energy photons were observed in the same location as the FRBs. If both the gamma ray and the radio waves did come from the same place, this could mean that the source is 1 billion times as energetic as previously thought.

CHALLENGING ASSUMPTIONS

This discovery could help pinpoint the origins of FRBs. If the gamma rays and the radio waves did come from the same location, the pulsar explanation can be ruled out since they are not known to produce gamma waves. Instead, collisions between two neutron stars, or between a neutron star and a black hole, look promising, says Derek Fox, an astrophysicist at Penn State and a coauthor of the study

However, this discovery is just one of many FRBs. Scientists speculate there are more FRBs happening now that are not detected by our instruments. However, it is possible that some FRBs are accompanied by gamma rays, while others could be produced alone. Jason Hessels, an astrophysicist at the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy in Dwingeloo shares the sentiment about that theory: “It’s tantalizing, but a lot more would need to be found to be convincing.”

Still, thanks to new detection instruments like the Swift satellite, we are inching closer to fully understanding the universe. It is in these new tools that we are challenging established assumptions and gaining new insights, in this world and beyond.

Time machine, recording studio, travel destination: Inside southern California's mind-bending Integratron

You don't have to believe in UFOs or time travel to appreciate the Integratron. But when visiting the one-of-a-kind, three-story high, white-domed structure that's been a permanent fixture of California's Mojave Desert since the late 1950s, keeping an open mind is a must, not a maybe.

To visit the Integratron is to pay homage to the life's work of a man named George Van Tassel – an aviator and UFOlogist with an extraordinary mission: to construct "a time machine for basic research on rejuvenation, anti-gravity, and time travel". It's the brainchild of a benevolent bunch of extraterrestrials from Venus who arrived on Earth on a star-soaked night in 1953 and – according to Van Tassel – telepathically divulged to him the schematics for what would become the Integratron.

And, judging by the structure's meticulous configuration – requiring no screws or nails of any kind, right down to the perfect acoustics for which the space is perhaps best known – it's safe to say those extraterrestrials knew a thing or two about midcentury modernist design.

Located amid the dusty desertscape of Landers, California, about an hour north of Palm Springs and just moments from the unique spike-leafed evergreens inhabiting the Joshua Tree National Park, the precise coordinates of the Integratron are as much a part of the way it functions as the structure itself. And magnificent it is. Inside the airy main chamber, 16 rectangular windows boast panoramic views of the desert as linear wood detailing spirals out from the dome's highest point. Like some kind of esoteric house of worship, the space feels undeniably sacred, the interior's wooden ribs reaching skyward in adulation.

But it's not only the look and feel of the space that has thousands of visitors making the pilgrimage each year. It's the Integratron's unusual acoustic properties that attract everyone from musicians and yogis to astronomers and scientists, and which makes the structure a sublime archetype for sound baths.

For those unfamiliar with the relatively new modality of healing, a sound bath is an immersive experience that engages a series of quartz-crystal singing bowls to lull participants into a meditative state of stillness as the transcendental tones wash over them.

If it sounds like your kind of jam, it's recommended that you book your session at least a couple of weeks in advance as spots fill up fast. Arrive early for a stroll around the grounds, and settle into one of the many hammocks to absorb the view of the white dome as it rises out of the Mojave like a repurposed UFO.
