New Dwarf Planet Discovered Far Beyond Pluto's Orbit

Pluto isn't quite as lonely as scientists had thought.
Astronomers have discovered another dwarf planet in the Kuiper Belt, the ring of icy objects beyond Neptune. But this newfound world, dubbed 2015 RR245, is much more distant than Pluto, orbiting the sun once every 700 Earth years, scientists said. "The icy worlds beyond Neptune trace how the giant planets formed and then moved out from the sun," discovery team member Michele Bannister, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia, said in a statement. "But almost all of these icy worlds are painfully small and faint; it's really exciting to find one that's large and bright enough that we can study it in detail," Bannister added.

The exact size of 2015 RR245 is not yet known, but the researchers think it's about 435 miles (700 kilometers) wide. Pluto is the largest resident of the Kuiper Belt, with a diameter of 1,474 miles (2,371 km).
The research team first spotted 2015 RR245 in February of this year, while poring over images that the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in Hawaii took in September 2015 as part of the ongoing Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS).
"There it was on the screen — this dot of light moving so slowly that it had to be at least twice as far as Neptune from the sun," Bannister said.
OSSOS has discovered more than 500 objects beyond Neptune's orbit, but 2015 RR245 is the first dwarf planet that the survey has found, the scientists said.

Dwarf planets are massive enough to be crushed into spheres by their own gravity, but they have not "cleared their neighborhood" of other objects, which differentiates them from "normal" planets such as Earth and Saturn. This definition, which was devised by the International Astronomical Union in 2006, led to Pluto's controversial reclassification as a dwarf planet.
Astronomers are still working out the details of 2015 RR245's highly elliptical orbit, but the object appears to come as close to the sun as 34 astronomical units (AU), and farther away than 120 AU. (One AU is the average Earth-sun distance — about 93 million miles, or 150 million km.)
2015 RR245 — which will get a catchier, official name at some point — will make its closest approach to the sun in 2096, the researchers said.
Other confirmed dwarf planets in the Kuiper Belt region include Pluto, Eris, Haumea and Makemake. Several other objects in this distant realm, including Sedna, Quaoar and 2007 OR10, probably meet the dwarf-planet criteria as well, scientists have said.

When space agencies calculate and establish speed records, these numbers need to be defined and qualified, because there can be more than one frame of reference. In other words, the speed of a spacecraft can be calculated relative to the Earth, the sun or some other body.
And as these spacecraft move further away from Earth, it gets trickier to use traditional methods of measurement. This is especially true for metrics such as time; for example, a day on Mars is a different length than a day on Earth. When trying to suss out which of the many objects hurtling through space is moving the fastest, there are a few things to consider. To start, it's important to determine which celestial body you'll use as a reference point when calculating velocity. If you're trying to simply measure the speed of a car, Earth works perfectly fine as a reference point, but as you venture out into the cosmos, it makes more sense to use a larger frame of reference. Calculating an object's heliocentric, or sun-relative, velocity then becomes more common.
What's more, once a spacecraft makes it out of Earth's atmosphere, the vessel doesn't always maintain a constant speed. Launch velocities are different from cruise velocities (just like on an airplane), and according to NASA, planetary interactions can cause an object to change speed as well.
For example, a spacecraft can increase its velocity in space by performing a flyby of a planet (or other celestial body, such as a moon), using that planet's gravitational force to speed up or propel the spacecraft out further into the cosmos, NASA said. Essentially, the planet or moon provides a gravitational slingshot. Imagine throwing a tennis ball at an oncoming train: The momentum from the train transfers to the ball, and the ball's velocity increases.
After a five-year jaunt through space, NASA's robotic Juno spacecraft arrived at Jupiter on July 4, 2016, and the gas giant's impressive gravity accelerated the probe to approximately 165,000 mph (265,000 km/h) relative to Earth. This made Juno the fastest-moving human-made object in history.
In terms of pure heliocentric velocity, NASA's Helios I and Helios II probes previously held the record at 157,000 mph (253,000 km/h) as they passed by the sun. These probes were launched in 1974 and 1976, to study solar processes.
The record for fastest launch velocity belongs to the New Horizons probe, which lifted off in 2006 on a mission to Pluto and the Kuiper Belt. This 1,054-lb. (478 kilograms), piano-size spacecraft sped away from the Earth at a blistering pace of 36,000 mph (almost 58,000 km/h).
New Horizons' escape speed from Earth beat the previous record of 32,400 mph (about 52,000 km/h), set when Pioneer 10 set out for Jupiter, in 1972.
And though Juno is currently the fastest human-made object, it remains to be seen how long the space probe can hold onto the impressive title.Solar Probe Plus, a NASA mission scheduled to launch in 2018, is designed to fly into the sun's atmosphere, making it the first probe to do so. Due to the enormity of Earth's nearest star, the probe is expected to reach orbital velocities as high as 450,000 mph (724,000 km/h). For perspective, at this speed, you could travel from the Earth to the moon in about 30 minutes.
For spacecraft that have re-entered Earth's atmosphere, the highest speed was set by the comet-catching Stardust spacecraft, which plunged back toward Earth at a speed of 29,000 mph (more than 46,600 km/h).

A pilot who disappeared nearly 40 years ago after reporting a UFO is one of the inspirations for the plot of the new television drama series The Kettering Incident.
While the show revolves around fictional mysterious disappearances in the Tasmanian bush, the disappearance of Frederick Valentich was very real.
Valentich was a 20-year-old pilot who went missing over Bass Strait in 1978, leaving nothing behind except a mysterious radio transmission.
Historian Reg Watson has been researching the disappearance for many years.
"I've looked at it for gosh, three decades," he told Leon Compton on 936 ABC Hobart.
"I have to say, in my opinion, he had an encounter with a UFO — and I don't say that lightly."
'It's not an aircraft'
Valentich went missing on the night of October 21, 1978.
Mr Watson said Valentich wanted to increase his flying hours and planned to fly from Moorabbin in Victoria to King Island.
He left Moorabbin at 6:19pm and made radio contact with air traffic control in Melbourne at 7:06pm.
"He asked if there was any sort of aircraft in the area," Mr Watson said.
Valentich was told there was "no known traffic".
He went on to report a large unknown aircraft had flown over the top of him and added: "It seems to be playing some sort of game. He's flying over me."
Valentich then said:
"It's not an aircraft."
The pilot continued to speak with air traffic control in Melbourne about the craft until 7:12pm and that was the last anyone heard from him.
Mr Watson said authorities searched for Valentich for four days but nothing was ever found.
Theories around disappearance
There are some theories that Valentich staged his disappearance due to some discrepancies in his plans that night.
"There is some mystery about Frederick going to King Island," Mr Watson said.
"His father told me he was 40 minutes late [setting off] to King Island.
"He put his flight plan into Moorabbin but he never told King Island flight service that he was coming, therefore they never had the lights on at the airport.
"This has given rise to two assumptions: one, that he planned his own mysterious departure; or two, that he was a suicide."
Mr Watson said he had spoken to Valentich's family and friends and he did not believe the young man intended to disappear that night.
"Frederick was a well-adjusted young man," he said.
"He had a girlfriend, there was no problem there, he wasn't suffering from depression and he got on well with the family."
1978 UFO sightings — 'The biggest flap in Australia'
The documents around Valentich's disappearance were released to the public in 2012 and Mr Watson said these backed up his belief it was a UFO that caused the disappearance.
"All I know, in the broad terms of a UFO, an unidentified flying object ... that caused his demise," he said.
"For two months prior [to October 21] lights in the sky, cigar-shaped objects, were seen from King Island.
"And I've spoken to witnesses on the north-west coast [of Tasmania] who actually saw a craft on the day 15 minutes before he went missing."
Mr Watson said there were numerous reports of UFO sightings in 1978.
"It's been called the biggest flap in Australia's history," he said.
"Sightings were seen, not only from Tasmania, they were seen as far away as South Australia, right through the coast of Western Australia, even up to the coast of NSW."
A coronial inquiry into the disappearance in 1982 returned an open verdict with Valentich listed as missing, presumed dead.
His family erected a memorial plaque on Cape Otway in 1998 which was unveiled by Steve Roby, the air traffic controller that night in 1978 and the last person to speak with Valentich.

Researchers discovered a new dwarf planet outside the Solar System. Around 700 km in diameter, it is considered the 18th largest object in the Kuiper Belt.
NEW DWARF PLANET
Another Pluto-like dwarf planet was discovered by astronomers. The dwarf planet, located about 20 times farther from the sun than Neptune, has a diameter of around 700 kilometers (435 miles), revolves in an elliptical orbit around the sun for 700 Earth-years and is called 2015 RR245.
On the year 2096, it will be closest to the sun at about 5 billion km (3.1 billion mi) and its farthest distance from the sun is at about 12 billion km (7.5 mi).
The dwarf planet was discovered by a team of astronomers using the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) in Maunakea, Hawaii. They took images last September 2015 which were analyzed this February. The discovery was announced on Monday in the Minor Planet Electronic Circular.
RR245 is described as the 18th largest object in the Kuiper Belt. Discovered in 1992, the Kuiper Belt is located 30 AU from the sun. Some objects included in this belt are Pluto, Makemake and Varuna. It contains icy bodies with sizes ranging from small chunks to more than a hundred kilometers across.

According to CFHT, “RR245 is one of the few dwarf planets that has survived to the present day — along with Pluto and Eris, the largest known dwarf planets.” Majority of the dwarf planets were destroyed or were forced to move away from the sun as the giant planets settled into their current positions.
The Outer Solar System Origins Survey team will get the naming rights to the planet for their discovery. As soon as the precise orbit of the planet is identified, the planet will get its official name. Meanwhile, observations on the dwarf planet will continue.

A tantalizing new piece of footage from the ISS live feed sees an anomalous glowing object seemingly about to enter Earth's atmosphere before the broadcast abruptly stops.
The object itself is not particularly noteworthy and appears as simply a glowing dot slowly descending towards the planet.
What raised eyebrows among UFO enthusiasts was the incredible but all-too-familiar ending to the footage.
After an almost agonizingly long wait for the object to reach the Earth's atmosphere, the feed suddenly stops and a technical difficulties message appears just as it is about to unfold.
The 'coincidental' timing, coupled with the increasing number of times such a turn of events has occurred inrecent years, adds fuel to the conspiracy theory that the 'powers that be' cut the ISS feed to censor UFOs.
Skeptics, of course, will note that the object in question is still just a glowing dot and could be anything from space debris to a meteor.
Some may recall that NASA denied any ISS UFO censorship conspiracy back in April, but, as we predicted, their statement has not put a stop to the continual barrage of videos allegedly showing the cover-up in action.
Coast Insiders looking for more insight into UFO captured on space footage can revisit the 9/17/2015 edition of the program when researcher Mark Peters discussed perhaps the most famous clip of all: the STS-48 video from Space Shuttle Discovery.

Atmosfeer De Juno werd in 2011 gelanceerd en kwam vorige week in een baan rond Jupiter, na een reis van 3 miljard kilometer. De sonde moet onder meer de atmosfeer van de planeet in kaart brengen. Wetenschappers willen bijvoorbeeld weten hoeveel water Jupiter heeft.
Een internationaal team van astronomen heeft bewijzen gevonden voor het bestaan van een zogeheten zwaartekrachtskolk rond een zwart gat in de ruimte. De ontdekking maakt het mogelijk theorieën over de zwaartekracht te testen, meldt de Universiteit van Amsterdam.
In de jaren tachtig ontdekten astronomen dat röntgenstraling van zwarte gaten kunnen flikkeren. Eerst gebeurt dat flikkeren ongeveer om de tien seconden. In de dagen, weken en maanden daarna gaat het flikkeren steeds sneller tot zo'n tien keer per seconde. Vervolgens stopt het flikkeren.
Een draaiend object zou een soort zwaartekrachtskolk kunnen creëren, te vergelijken met het ronddraaien van een lepel in een honingpot. De honing is dan de ruimte, de lepel het zwarte gat. Alles in de omgeving wordt meegesleurd door de kolk, zeggen de onderzoekers.

UFO-jagers hebben aan de bel getrokken nadat de livestream van het internationale ruimtestation ISS werd onderbroken op het moment dat een groot mysterieus object de aardatmosfeer leek binnen te gaan.
Het incident deed zich voor op 9 juli en werd gemeld door YouTube-gebruiker Streetcap1, schrijft de Britse Daily Mirror. Hoewel het volgens hem niet gelijk om een buitenaards ruimteschip hoeft te gaan, vindt hij het wel vreemd dat de camera werd uitgezet.
“Wat het interessant maakt is het feit dat het beeld op zwart ging op het moment dat de UFO leek te stoppen,” schreef hij. Sommigen denken dat het object het Chinese ruimtestation Tiangong 1 is.
“Ik volg het ISS al zes jaar en ik kan met zekerheid zeggen dat dit niet de maan of een meteoor is,” ging hij verder. “Mogelijk gaat het om het Chinese ruimtestation Tiangong 1.”
Het is niet de eerste keer dat NASA ervan wordt beschuldigd de uitzending te onderbreken nadat een mysterieuze UFO in beeld verschijnt tijdens een livestream van het ISS. In april ontkende een woordvoerder van de Amerikaanse ruimtevaartorganisatie dat technici het beeld bewust op zwart zetten als er UFO’s in beeld komen.

Steeds meer Amerikanen willen dat hun overheid openheid van zaken geeft over vliegende schotels. Het hoofd van Hillary Clintons verkiezingscampagne, John Podesta, zei op CNN dat de Amerikaanse overheid vragen over UFO’s beter moet beantwoorden.
In februari vorig jaar, toen hij nog topadviseur van president Obama was, twitterde hij: “Mijn grootste mislukking van 2014: er wederom niet in geslaagd om de UFO-documenten openbaar te maken.”
Clinton liet in januari ook al weten dat ze geruchten over contact tussen de Verenigde Staten en buitenaards leven ‘tot op de bodem’ wil uitzoeken. Podesta bevestigde dat Clinton, indien ze in november wordt verkozen tot president, zoveel mogelijk documenten over Area 51 openbaar zal laten maken. “En ik denk dat dat een belofte is die ze zal houden,” zei hij.
Erg geïnteresseerd
Het Witte Huis houdt vol dat het geen informatie over dit onderwerp heeft. Toch hebben de FBI, CIA en NSA verschillende geheime UFO-stukken vrijgegeven, wat erop wijst dat men erg geïnteresseerd is in dit fenomeen.
In het FBI-archief The Vault is een buitengewoon interessant document te vinden. Het document, dathier (pagina’s 21 en 22) kan worden gevonden, is gericht aan ‘bepaalde vooraanstaande wetenschappers, militaire autoriteiten en een aantal ambtenaren’.

Het document bevat een kopie van een brief die is geschreven door ‘een voormalig decaan’ met verschillende ‘universitaire diploma’s’.

Ze niet uit de astrale sfeer afkomstig zijn, maar de Lakas of Talas (mensen die bekend zijn met esoterische zaken zullen dit begrijpen)
Dit is slechts één van de vele documenten die zijn vrijgegeven. Diverse vragen blijven echter nog onbeantwoord. Gaat het hier bijvoorbeeld om meer dan één ras? En zijn ze fysiek of extradimensionaal?
Dr. Edgar Mitchell, de zesde man op de maan, zei ooit: “Ja, er zijn schepen neergestort en lichamen geborgen. We zijn niet alleen in het universum, ze bezoeken de aarde al een lange tijd.”

Sergeant Karl Wolfe werkte in 1965 aan het Lunar Orbiterprogramma. Hij vertelt constructies te hebben gezien op de maan en bases op de achterkant van de maan. Dat schrijft de Britse Daily Express.
Wolfe zegt in juni of juli 1965 de opdracht te hebben gekregen om op de luchtmachtbasis Langley een probleem met de fotoafdrukapparatuur te verhelpen. Hij werd naar een grote hangar geleid, waar de NSA foto’s analyseerde die waren gemaakt door de Lunar Orbiter.
In de donkere kamer was een man aanwezig die Wolfe vertelde dat er een basis op de achterkant van de maan was ontdekt. Hij liet opnames zien van hoge torens en ronde gebouwen op het maanoppervlak.
Intelligente wezens
“Het waren constructies die zeker niet waren ontstaan als gevolg van een meteorietinslag of botsing met een hemellichaam,” aldus Wolfe. “Ze waren gebouwd door intelligente wezens.”
Het meest opvallende vond Wolfe de radarantennes op de foto’s. Ze deden hem erg denken aan antennes die op aarde staan. Hij vroeg zich in eerste instantie af of Rusland ze misschien had neergezet.
Buiten publieke domein gehouden
De Washington Times schreef eerder over hem: “Karl Wolfe, een sergeant die voor de NSA werkte, zei dat op de achterkant van de maan mysterieuze structuren waren aangetroffen toen het maanoppervlak voor de maanlanding in 1969 in kaart werd gebracht. De foto’s werden buiten het publieke domein gehouden.”
Het Lunar Orbiterprogramma bestond uit vijf onbemande ruimteschepen die in 1966 en 1967 werden gelanceerd en die de maan in kaart brachten, mede als voorbereiding op het Apolloprogramma. Ze maakten de eerste foto’s vanuit een baan om de maan. Deze foto’s werden onder meer gebruikt om geschikte landingsplekken te selecteren.

An Arkansas witness at Lonsdale reported watching a low flying object with bright lights and windows that could not be identified, according to testimony in Case 77398 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was westbound along Highway 70 riding a motorcycle about one-half mile past the 70 and 128 junction at 10 p.m. on July 2, 2016, when the incident occurred.
“The night was warm, weather was dry and clear with very good visibility,” the witness stated.“The road was three lanes wide with approximately40 yards from tree line to tree line. Tree height is 30 to 40 feet. I first noticed flashing lights just entering my view above the tree line to the north of my line of sight. The object appeared to be traveling diagonally across my line of sight to the southwest. It appeared to be at approximately 60 to 70 degrees above the ground.”
The witness first assumed the object was a low flying, small aircraft.

“However, I quickly realized the ‘navigation lights’ were unlike anything I had ever seen on any aircraft. My next thought was that due to its apparent low speed and height (my impression) that it could be a blimp. However, it didn’t have a traditional navigation light pattern.”
The witness described the object.
“It had a flashing white light at the back with a second flashing white light slightly below the first. A row of sequentially strobing white light along the (what I took to be) underside with a single red light at the front. Above the bottom lights was a single row of six, square, hard edged ‘windows’ that emitted a bright, white light. This all seemed to be attached to a solid structure of a light blue/gray/silver color. I could not see any other hard edges, however I got the impression that the ‘windows’ or ‘light panels’ were attached to a V-shaped “hull.” I could only see the side facing me, but it seemed that there was a glow from where the other side would be, so one might assume that it was symmetrical. Once or twice when the uppermost rear light flashed, I thought I saw some structure above the light, but I am unsure of that. There were no other lights above the ‘windows’ or anywhere else other than the one I describe.”

“The first light in the sequence was the uppermost rear white light followed by the lower rear white light (these two were the largest and brightest of the flashing lights). The two rear lights seem to have the longest duration and gap between them. After the lower light flashed, a row of eight to 10, sequentially flashing, white light flashed from the rear lower, large light to the front (direction of travel). These lights were fast (maybe a half second, rear to front), smaller and less intense than the two rear most lights. At the end of this sequence, at the front most point, the last light to flash was red. After a short (half second) pause, the pattern would repeat. The ‘windows’ or ‘light panels’ maintained a steady bright glow. The light was a very bright white with a blueish tinge. They appeared to be the same size and distance apart, taking up approximately one-third of the visible structure.”
The object stayed in view for approximately one minute before its travel and the height of the surrounding trees blocked its view from the witness.
“The road turned more southerly and I re-acquired the object in my view for approximately 10 to 20 seconds and then intermittently through the trees for a short while. It appeared to stay on the same course and height for as long as I had it in my view. If I extended my arm and turned my hand horizontal, I could have covered the object with my thumb, from the tip to midway past the first joint. This is an approximation as I was not able to do this at the time. My only feelings were of curiosity as to what the object was.”

The witness also provided information on himself.
“I was clearheaded. I had not consumed any drugs or alcohol. I don’t do drugs legal or otherwise (I’m allergic to most narcotic pain killers). I am not on any psychotropic medications (nor do I have reason to believe I should be) and rarely drink. My only thoughts at the time I first saw the object were of getting home and enjoying the ride as the evening cooled off. I live in a relatively high aircraft traffic zone and have seen navigation lights from all angles, heights and on many types of aircraft. I have seen drones of various sizes. I have seen blimps in daytime and I have seen them at night at sporting events, however, I have never seen one operating at night in a rural area. The object I saw falls outside of my personal experience, and searching online I was unable to find any aircraft with lights of this type, including blimps and the Virgin lightships. I am a rationalist and a firm believer in Occam’s razor. I enjoy debunking other people’s misidentifications and wild conclusions. I would be quite happy to have you identify this as a blimp, if, in fact that’s what this was.”

A Florida witness at Palm Harbor reported discovering a UFO in a photo that was not noticed until the following day, according to testimony in Case 77399 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness was outside on July 2, 2016, searching for UFOs.
“I was asking in my head for the beings to show themselves to me,” the witness stated.“Looks like I was answered because as I was taking photos of the last light of the day, I caught an anomaly or entity in one of my photos that I only noticed the next day.”

This alien structure was found by Streetcap1 of Youtube. He seems to have found an alien city within Tycho crater and is pumping out building by building. Each structure is very amazing. I added some darkness to make the edges of this building come into focus. Its obvious that this is not just a rock. That this is an incredibly massive structure among a city on Earth moon. Check out this UFO over a ship in Canada last month. It made the Oshawa news today and its more evidence that UFOs are seen as frequently over the water as over the land. If a UFO can be air tight in space, then is should also work similarly underwater. In this photo the disk looks like its over the ship, but the ship is focused, and the UFO is blurry, so I believer the UFO is further away, far behind the ship.
News states: OSHAWA - Daniel Koostachin said he had a bad feeling, like he was about to enter a haunted house when he showed up to the gates at the Oshawa Harbour on June 22 around 9:30 a.m., alone to pick up some metal rebar for a company he drives transport truck for. “I felt very uncomfortable all of a sudden,” said the Newmarket resident. “It felt like someone was watching me.” Mr. Koostachin said he checked his surroundings, looking left then right and that’s when he saw “the object” hovering over the waters of Lake Ontario. He managed to snap a couple of photos with his camera before “it took off into the sky. “After I saw it, I couldn’t sleep for two days. I had mixed feelings inside me,” he explained. “I felt dreadful.” Mr. Koostachin described what he saw as a black object that was a disc shape. “There were no lights, no sounds, no nothing,” he said. “That UFO was far from the harbour. It was far in distance.” He said he has always been a believer that UFOs exist and thinks he has seen them before but this time was different. “I’ve never been close enough to see it and get proof. I was hoping it’d take me but it didn’t that day,” he joked. “Hopefully the Men in Black don’t show up at my door.”

A group of metallic orbs was seen coming out of a cloud and was near a plane flying past. Perhaps the orbs were hiding and waiting for planes, so they could scan the technology. The plane made a small maneuver, ( I thought to myself that the huge plane shouldn't try that at such a slow speed.) as the metallic orbs appeared out of the small clouds. I grabbed my phone to try and capture both the plane and the orbs closer together.The military plane can still be seen very well by zooming in. I stopped looking at the orbs to check the photo for both plane and orbs,GOT THEM BOTH, when I looked back to the sky I didnt see the orbs any more. This UFO is unusual because it seems to have two tails, and it has a rocket like shape to it. The fact that this is over the World Trade Center shows me that aliens have a lot of interest not just in the old building, but also in the new buildings that have symbolic meaning to the country. I was capturing continously without focusing a spesific object. I captured many photos. In one minute I captured 3 photos consecutively.
