Une hypothèse sur le fonctionnement des "Soucoupes Volantes"

Ainsi que nous l'avions annoncé dans un précédent numéro, nous publions aujourd'hui une étude sur le problème, toujours mystérieux, des Soucoupes Volantes.

Nous pensons que les théories développées intéresseront les lecteurs par leur originalité mais nous ne croyons pas - pas plus que leur auteur d'ailleurs - qu'elles les convaincront tous.

Aussi nos colonnes resteront-elles ouvertes aux contradicteurs éventuels... 

Comme il a été dit dans un précédent numéro de "Forces Aériennes Françaises", écrire, dans une revue sérieuse, un article sur les "Soucoupes Volantes" est une marque d'opiniâtreté et d'optimisme. Mais vouloir leur trouver une explication, alors que leur existence est considérée par beaucoup comme une monumentale plaisanterie, est une tâche encore plus risquée. J'aurais aimé, avant de l'entreprendre, avoir le réconfort de la certitude absolue. Malheureusement, je serai bientôt seul à n'avoir pas vu de "Soucoupes Volantes".

Je me suis occupé de ces engins étranges dans les conditions suivantes: une étude de l'évolution des techniques humaines, à laquelle je me suis livré ces dernières années, m'a amené à imaginer "l'engin supersonique et interstellaire idéal". Cet engin, dans l'état actuel de nos connaissances, me paraissait impossible à construire et je ne pensais pas que nous le voyons réalisé avant de très nombreuses années. Or, je découvris un jour, avec l'étonnement qu'on devine, qu'il existait déjà: c'était, naturellement, la Soucoupe Volante.

Il ne m'est pas possible de développer ici la théorie qui m'avait amené à imaginer mon engin interstellaire. Je demande donc au lecteur, s'il reste libre d'en discuter le principe, en s'appuyant sur la physique la plus classique, de considérer cette théorie, prise dans son ensemble, comme un postulat et de s'intéresser surtout aux applications qui en sont déduites.

Q'on ne s'attende d'ailleurs pas à des révélations sensationnelles sur les Soucoupes. J'aurais, certes, aimé en donner le schéma exact, avec des courbes représentatives de leurs différents organes; je n'en suis malheureusement pas là. Ce n'est donc pas, en définitive, une solution, mais seulement les principes s'une solution, que je soumets au lecteur.

UN ENGIN IDEAL

Propulsion par champ de forces

L'étude des moyens de déplacements humains m'a amené à la conclusion suivante: "La propulsion par champ de forces marquera le terme du perfectionnement dans la technique des déplacements à très grande vitesse". Ce champ de forces, pour permettre les déplacements dans toutes les directions, aussi bien dans l'atmosphère qu'en dehors, devra être créé à partir d'une énergie cosmiqueomniprésente, artificielle ou naturelle. Le système de référence, au point de vue réaction, sera donc une sorte de différence de potentiel de cette énergie d'espace, différence de potentiel locale provoquée par l'engin lui-même, par libération ou absorbtion de cette énergie sous forme d'énergie d'une autre nature. Cette fonction capitale aura pour résultat intrinsèque la création d'un champ de forces entre les points extrêmes de la zone de libération ou d'absorbtion. Ceci implique nécessairement un sens unique de cette fonction; nous verrons plus loin comment certaines déductions semblent indiquer que ce sens est imposé par un champ magnétique solénoïdal, dans le cas qui nous intéresse.

Le tourniquet photométrique utilise un principe de propulsion qui présente quelque ressemblance avec ce système: les colorations blanches et noires des deux palettes provoquent une "différence de potentiel" de l'énergie qui est, dans ce cas, l'énergie lumineuse; les palettes sont soumises à une force qui entraîne la rotation du tourniquet, sans qu'aucun système de réaction apparent puisse être défini.

Si l'on suppose une énergie ambiante beaucoup plus importante que celle de la lumière, et le fait que l'engin dispose d'un procédé de capture de cette énergie analogue à la bicoloration des palettes du tourniquet, on peut en déduire qu'il y aura propulsion.

Quelles seraient l'origine et la nature de cette énergie cosmique? On peut imaginer des distributeurs artificiels genre station radio projetant dans l'espace des pinceaux énergétiques pour les voyages interplanétaires. Mais il se peut aussi, plus simplement, que la Nature nous ait fourni gratuitement cette énergie.

Une fabuleuse source d'énergie

Je demande aux lecteurs de faire avec moi une supposition. C'est que cette fabuleuse énergie cosmique existe. Comment, dira-t-on, n'aurait-elle pas été décelée? Peut-être parce qu'elle est neutre électriquement et magnétiquement ou parce que nous n'avons pas encore inventé d'instruments pour la mesurer. La découverte des rayons cosmiques n'est pas tellement ancienne et nous n'avons certainement pas épuisé les surprises que nous réserve la nature. Je me suis livré à une étude, peu précise il est vrai, des possibilités de cette énergie, et je pense qu'on pourrait, avec son aide, trouver une réponse à de nombreux mystères de la science moderne, notamment à l'attraction newtonienne et aux caractéristiques corpusculaires les plus troublantes (indiscernabilité, indétermination, agitation, etc.) Les résultats de ce travail sont très séduisants, à défaut d'être indiscutables.

De plus, l'existence du rayonnement cosmique donne du poids à cette hypothèse. Ces particules cosmiques présentent des condensations d'énergie atteignant le chiffre énorme de 10¹⁶ électrons volts, soit environ 100.000 fois l'énergie que pourrait donner la "sublimation" complète - et irréalisable - du noyau d'uranium. Il peut même y en avoir de beaucoup plus puissantes qui traversent les chambres de Wilson suivant des trajectoires rectilignes (quand elles les tracent) ne permettant pas leur analyse énergétique, ni même leur analyse qualitative.

Dans l'atmosphère terrestre, ces particules tombent en une sorte de pluie qui n'est pas très dense, du moins dans ses aspects expérimentalement repérables: un corpuscule par cm² et par minute au niveau de la mer. Elles n'en supposent pas moins une énergie de base fabuleuse: il faudrait en effet des cyclotrons géants pour obtenir des corpuscules animés de telles énergies. Or, aucune force n'a été décelée dans l'espace, qui puisse expliquer ces mystérieuses condensations de puissances.

C'est pourquoi il ne semble pas incohérent d'admettre ce postulat d'une énergie cosmique naturelle de préférence à une énergie artificielle.

L'engin idéal existe-t-il?

Mon engin en était à ce stade très théorique et très incomplet, et ne semblait pas devoir le dépasser de sitôt lorsque j'entendis parler pour la première fois des Soucoupes Volantes. Je lisais comme tout le monde, avec un scepticisme amusé, la description de ces phénomènes étranges et fantaisistes, jusqu'au jour où je fis une constatation troublante: certaines caractéristiques des Soucoupes Volantes correspondaient à celles qu'aurait eues "mon" engin. Cela signifiait-il que ce dernier existait réellement? L'énergie cosmique n'était-elle plus un postulat?

J'entrepris aussitôt une étude serrée des témoignages les plus dignes de foi et me rendis compte avec un étonnement de plus en plus grand que toutes les prétendues extravagances que dénoncent les adversaires des Soucoupes Volantes pouvaient en réalité être la conséquence tout à fait normale du système de propulsion que je leur prêtais. J'expliquais ainsi le silence, la résistance thermique, le changement d'aspect, l'habitabilité, puis toutes les autres anomalies.

Ces vérifications m'ont été profitables. A chaque explication correspondait une orientation de mes recherches, et je pus me faire peu à peu une idée plus exacte de la nature de ces engins et de la force mystérieuse qui les anime. Ce travail de "physicien détective" que je n'accomplissais que par force, n'ayant pas les moyens d'expérimentation directe, fut en définitive particulièrement fructueux, puisque je pus prévoir certaines caractéristiques, confirmées ultérieurement par des témoignages, telles que la tache excentrique apparaissant sur certaines photos ou... le nuage ambulant.

LES MYSTERES DES APPARITIONS

On peut imaginer que l'engin utilise un procédé de libération de l'énergie cosmique analogue à celui qui, dans la nature, crée, à partir de cette même énergie, les primaires du rayonnement cosmique. De même que cette fonction "libérante" confère aux corpuscules cosmiques naturels ainsi engendrés une vitesse - et partant, une énergie - prodigieuses, de même l'énergie cosmique, au cours de cette libération artificielle, rayonnerait sous forme de fluide "corpusculo-ondulatoire" à travers l'engin, dans un sens bien défini - celui de la propulsion - et à une vitesse de l'ordre de celle de la lumière. Ce fluide imposerait à chaque noyau atomique rendu réceptif une force dirigée dans le sens de l'écoulement. Ainsi serait créé le champ de forces propulsif de ma théorie. On aurait une sorte de gerbe cosmique continue présentant quelque analogie avec les gerbes cosmiques photographiées par les savants, mais de nature différente, ne serait-ce que par sa densité et son sens de chute. De plus, elle ne serait pas due à une primaire de grande énergie, mais à une capture directe de l'énergie mystérieuse, cause du rayonnement cosmique. Déclenchée par l'engin, elle le suivrait dans sa course, le propulserait et le sustenterait à l'arrêt, un peu à la manière des jets d'eau sur lesquels dansent les balles de ping-pong dans les stands de tir des fêtes foraines.

On peut admettre, d'autre part, sans même faire cette dernière hypothèse, que l'intensité du champ de forces décroîtrait sans discontinuité à mesure que l'on s'éloignerait de l'engin, du fait de l'affaiblissement progressif du pouvoir de libération de l'énergie et de la réceptivité communiquée aux atomes. On peut, par suite, prévoir raisonnablement que les surfaces, lieux d'égale intensité, seraient sphériques ou ellipsoïdales et centrées sur l'engin. Donnons-leur le nom de surfaces équidynamiques et appelons lignes de forces les axes de filets fluides, bien que rien ne prouve que la force soit constante le long de ces filets, en supposant simplement qu'elle lui est tangente en chaque point. On voudra bien excuser cette entorse aux appellations classiques.

Les noyaux atomiques de l'air ambiant subiraient, tout comme ceux de l'engin, l'influence du champ créé. Ils tendraient donc vers une certaine vitesse, égale à celle de l'engin à son voisinage, décroissante en fonction de l'éloignement. La résistance de l'atmosphère aidant, il se produirait donc une circulation aérodynamique dont la vitesse, c'est-à-dire le vent relatif, décroîtrait d'une façon différentielle pour devenir très faible au voisinage de la paroi. On aboutirait ainsi à la création d'une couche limite hyper-épaissie (ce qui est exactement l'inverse de ce que l'on s'efforce d'obtenir en aérodynamique classique) dont l'utilité sera étudiée plus loin.

L'engin se propulserait par glissement à basse vitesse dans le sens de la résultante vectorielle, comme le montre la figure N° 2. On aurait . Aux très grandes vitesses,  étant faible par rapport à , on aurait un déplacement axial.

Le principal avantage du système serait naturellement que, du fait de l'omniprésence de l'énergie cosmique, le problème du ravitaillement ne se poserait plus. Quant à la vitesse, elle tendrait, dans le vide presque absolu des espaces interstellaires, vers la vitesse du fluide traversant l'engin, c'est-à-dire, vraisemblablement, proche de celle de la lumière, si l'on en juge par celle des particules cosmiques les plus rapides.

Dans ce qui va suivre, il ne sera question que de vitesses relativement lentes: moins de 6.000 km/h en atmosphère moyenne et de 30.000 en haute altitude, car les explications données du silence et de la résistance thermique ne seraient peut-être plus valables au delà de ces vitesses aux altitudes considérées. D'ailleurs, ces chiffres correspondent approximativement aux chiffres maxima donnés par les observateurs.

Le silence:

D'après tous les témoins, les apparitions des Soucoupes Volantes ont lieu dans un silence absolu. Or, tout objet qui se déplace dans l'air subit des frottements aérodynamiques et laisse derrière lui une zone dépressionnaire plus ou moins turbulente. Aux très grandes vitesses, le frottement devrait produire un miaulement strident et la zone dépressionnaire, envahie brutalement par l'air à un rythme discontinu, serait sans doute le siège de claquements et même de coups de tonnerre analogues à ceux que l'on entend quand un avion franchit le "mur du son".

Les figures 3 et 4 donnent une explication de cette contradiction apparente. Considérons (fig. 3) une molécule d'air située en A, dans le cas le plus défavorable, c'est-à-dire en avant de l'engin et dans son axe de déplacement. L'engin se déplace à une vitesse très supersonique, 5.000 km/h. par exemple. La vitesse relative est donc de 5.000 km/h. Mais de A à B, elle décroît graduellement à mesure que la molécule rencontre des surfaces équidynamiques où le champ a une intensité de plus en plus forte. Il se produira sans doute une compression adiabatique à l'avant et des frottements de glissement du fait de la variation de en fonction de l'éloignement de l'axe (du moins dans ce cas de schéma), mais il n'y aura aucun choc supersonique avec un obstacle quelconque, donc aucun bruit. En B,  est devenu subsonique et relativement très faible: tout risque de bruit a donc disparu. Après B, la molécule contourne la masse d'air englobée par la surface N° 1 correspondant à une très forte intensité et ne prend contact avec la paroi qu'occasionnellement, par turbulence. Elle se perd ensuite dans la colonne d'air qui suit l'engin et se détend graduellement pour les mêmes raisons. En aucun instant, la possibilité d'un bruit quelconque n'est apparue.

La résistance thermique:

La chaleur énorme engendrée par le frottement de l'air aux très hautes vitesses considérées devrait volatiliser n'importe lequel des 92 corps purs connus dans notre galaxie aussi bien que leurs alliages. Il n'en est rien, et les Soucoupes Volantes traversent à toute allure les couches moyennes de l'atmosphère sans paraître le moins du monde en être incommodées.

Cette résistance anormale à la chaleur dégagée pourrait être expliquée par l'absence presque totale de vent relatif au voisinage de la paroi. Mais il reste tout de même l'échauffememt probable dû à la compression adiabatique en avant de l'engin et aux frottements de glissement et de turbulence des couches à des vitesses relatives différents. Ignorant la nature exacte du champ, on ne peut dire à priori quelle sera l'importance de cet échauffement; considérons le cas le plus défavorable, celui de la molécule fortement surchauffée en A. Comme il a été dit plus haut, elle ne peut avoir que des contacts occasionnels avec l'engin. En effet, il faut que, par turbulence, elle réussisse à franchir la zone de forte intensité qui provoque la formation de la couche limite hyper-épaissie. Elle ne peut donc avoir que de courts contacts avec la paroi. La capacité calorifique de l'air est faible par rapport à celle de cette paroi et, la capacité de l'énorme couche limite aidant, il s'écoule un certain temps avant que des flammèches d'air chaud aient échauffé l'engin. Il est donc possible de voler à des vitesses normalement incompatibles avec la résistance thermique des matériaux connus pendant un temps proportionnel à la grosseur de l'engin et inversement proportionnel à sa vitesse pour une altitude donnée. Ce temps sera peut-être très court, mais, à des vitesses de plusieurs milliers de kilomètres-heure, il n'est pas nécessaire de voler longtemps pour parcourir de longues distances ou pour atteindre la très haute atmosphère dans laquelle la question ne se pose plus. De plus, le cas choisi est le plus défavorable car il est peu probable que l'échauffement soit très fort, du moins jusqu'à cinq ou six mille kilomètres-heure.

Déplacement lent du "cigare". Ce déplacement sera nécessairement oblique, pour devenir horizontal à grande vitesse. Observé notamment à Oloron et à Gaillac, il était accompagné de l'émission des fameux "fils". Notons que les cigares étaient plus allongés qu'ils ne le sont ici pour les commodités du dessin, et ce sans doute pour soustraire la cabine centrale aux rayonnements nocifs. Rappelons que l'on a aussi observé des "bananes volantes", ce qui résoudrait le problème sans recourir à l'allongement, mais interdirait les très grandes vitesses en atmosphère.

L'habitabilité:

Il semble difficile, au premier abord, de supposer les Soucoupes habitées, car, même en admettant, comme nous venons de le voir, que la chaleur de frottement aérodynamique puisse être ramenée à des normes humaines, du fait du mode de propulsion et en limitant au besoin la durée des bonds à très grande vitesse, il reste que les prodigieuses accélérations dont ces engins sont coutumiers détruiraient tout organisme humain.

Cependant, les manoeuvres raisonnées des engins, leur stationnement prolongé au-dessus de certains points qui semblent les intéresser spécialement rendent la télécommande très improbable. Si donc l'engin est habité, comment expliquer que le pilote ne soit pas écrasé au fond du siège par sa propre inertie, lors d'accélérations dépassant plusieurs dizaines (pour ne pas dire plusieurs centaines) de g?

Cette fois encore, le principe de la propulsion par champ de forces résout le problème. Lors d'une forte accélération dans un appareil classique, l'écrasement est dû à l'inertie des molécules qui pèsent d'une façon très accrue sur le siège, origine de cette force d'accélération. Dans la Soucoupe, au contraire, la force ne vient pas du siège: elle est propre à chaque molécule. L'inertie est combattue sur le plan atomique et , à fortiori, moléculaire.

L'accélération linéaire qui en résulte est donc la même pour chaque molécule, et toutes les molécules progressent en même temps, à la même vitesse, dans la direction du champ, sans qu'il y ait possibilité d'un tassement quelconque. L'équilibre structural et physiologique demeure intact et le pilote peut subir les pires accélérations sans gêne. Seule, l'ionisation atomique provoquée par les très grandes accélérations met une limite à ces possibilités, mais cette limite n'est pas de celles qu'on peut envisager, même dans un déplacement interstellaire.

L'appareil et le pilote subissenmt donc une intensité égales du champ. Toutefois, l'engin, étant freiné par l'atmosphère, est entraîné à une vitesse plus faible que celle vers laquelle tend le pilote. Ce dernier risque donc d'être plaqué contre la paroi avant. Mais le problème est facile à résoudre par un affaiblissement dosé du champ dans l'habitacle. Il suffira de régler cet affaiblissement suivant le déplacement d'une masselote montée près du siège.

Quant aux virages à angle droit, ils s'expliquent très bien par un basculement de l'engin pour compenser la force centrifuge par l'action dosée du champ (fig. 9).

Changement d'aspect:

Une des caractéristiques les plus déroutantes des Soucoupes réside dans les modifications de leur apparence au gré d'une fantaisie inexplicable. Il n'existe pas, du moins à l'heure actuelle, d'engin connu se transformant en boule de feu colorée.

On pourrait, et ce fut une des premières hypothèses, penser à une genèse thermique de la boule. Mais elle est beaucoup plus vraisemblablement due au fluide "corpusculo-ondulatoire" qui rend l'air luminescent. On sait que l'on observe ce phénomène à la sortie de certains cyclotrons relativement peu puissants. La variation des couleurs pourrait être le fait de la variation d'intensité ou plutôt le fait d'un champ magnétique utilisé dans la fonction propulsive et qui produirait cet effet Zeeman inattendu. On sait que le physicien américain Noël W. Scott a créé expérimentalement des boules oranges en atmosphère raréfiée par la seule action d'un anneau de cuivre à haute tension. Il pense ainsi démontrer le caractère électrostatique naturel des apparitions. Ne confirme-t-il pas plutôt, involontairement, un aspect électrique ou électromagnétique de la propulsion de ces engins.

Enfin, comme il sera dit plus loin, le champ de forces, en provoquant un vide partiel en montée ou en descente oblique, peut amener la condensation de la vapeur d'eau de l'air, favorisée par l'ionisation éventuelle due au fluide, et donner naissance à une boule floconneuse, blanche et tourbillonnante, dont on trouve en effet le signalement dans de nombreux témoignages.

En résumé, le changement d'aspect peut avoir des causes thermiques, ondulatoires, météorologiques, ou encore, et c'est mon avis, deux des trois à la fois.

Voici donc une explication des mystères des Soucoupes Volantes. Elle aura sans doute, pour le lecteur sceptique, un grave défaut, celui de s'appuyer sur un postulat évidemment discutable. Cependant, ne peut-on raisonnablement admettre qu'une théorie confirmée par tant d'observations vaut mieux qu'un haussement d'épaules? L'expérience n'est-elle pas à la base de beaucoup de lois scientifiques?

Aussi vais-je m'efforcer de dégager les principales conséquences de cet étrange mode de propulsion. On s'apercevra aisément que les caractéristiques qui en résultent ont une extraordinaire ressemblance avec ce que les Soucoupes Volantes ont d'inhabituel dans leur comportement.

Assiette de l'engin:

Le déplacement ne se fait pas d'une façon constamment identique. Aux basses vitesses, l'axe de l'engin est sensiblement perpendiculaire au sens de déplacement. Il s'en rapproche de plus en plus à mesure que la vitesse augmente. L'appareil n'a certainement pas de gouvernes aérodynamiques puisqu'il n'existe pas de vent relatif stable sur lequel elles puissent agir. Il doit donc y avoir stabilisation gyroscopique. Le changement d'assiette est obtenu par excentration de la résultante  à la demande du pilote. On a donc, d'une part une partie tournante probablement périphérique, d'autre part un organe modérateur de champ excentrable.

Or, de nombreux témoins ont mentionné cette inclinaison variant avec la vitesse ainsi que le basculement avant le démarrage fulgurant.

Quant aux cigares, si l'on suppose qu'ils sont constitués d'une carlingue avec deux Soucoupes en bout, on voit immédiatement (fig. 5) qu'ils doivent être inclinés sur l'horizon à basse vitesse, cette inclinaison étant à peu près celle des axes d'éventuelles Soucoupes convoyeuses.

Il semble bien que l'on doive avoir un mouvement tourbillonnaire créant une dépression centrale du fait des forces centrifuges et de la divergence des filets d'air.

J'ai considéré le cas des lignes de forces de la figure 1.
Vi est la vitesse induite par le champ;
Vs est la vitesse induite par pression ou dépression;
Vp est la vitesse propre;
Vr est la vitesse aérodynamique instantanée résultante.

Balancement et approche en zig-zag:

A l'arrêt, toute inclinaison volontaire ou non provoque un glissement sur le côté correspondant (voir fig. 2). Or, il doit être difficile, pour le pilote, de garder son appareil bien à plat par son action sur la résultante du champ. Conséquence directe, en descente verticale lente, l'engin tombe "en pendule" ou "en feuille morte". De même à l'approche d'une localité, le pilote penche son engin pour mieux voir au-dessous de lui et provoque de ce fait de brusques écarts et une arrivée en zig-zag. Balancement oscillatoire, feuille morte et brusques écarts ont été de nombreuses fois signalés par des témoins dignes de foi.

Evolutions étranges:

Isolé en pleine vitesse au centre d'une zone limitée par de l'air brûlant et perturbé, le pilote ne peut avoir qu'une vision déformée du sol du fait de la réfraction, hétérogène à travers cet air. Ceci peut expliquer les brusques montées en chandelle, les changements de cap brutaux, et aussi les arrêts de quelques minutes au-dessus des villes et surtout des côtes, repères tout indiqués pour faire le point.

On a des surfaces équipotentielles et les mêmes conclusions que dans le cas d'un engin isolé.

Accidents et pannes:

L'engin peut difficilement être accidenté. Le pilote par simple inversion du champ, provoque le plus parfait des freinages. Au besoin, un simple montage type radar peut déclencher ce freinage à l'approche d'un obstacle. Quant aux personnes, elles ne risquent guère de livrer les débris - et le secret - des Soucoupes. En effet, en cas de panne du champ de forces, à grande vitesse en particulier, la couche limite hyper-épaissie disparaîtrait d'un seul coup, et l'engin heurterait l'air immobile avec une prodigieuse énergie cinétique qui amènerait sa désintégration et sa volatilisation thermique en une fraction de seconde, dans un bruit de tonnerre.

C'est peut-être l'explication des observations faites par deux pilotes d'Aéro-Club du Maroc dépassés, en septembre 1952 par un cigare qui disparut devant eux dans une gerbe d'étincelles, ou de l'explosion mystérieuse qui ébranla, un mois plus tard, la région de Glancove, près de New-York.

Création d'ascendances:

Il est possible qu'on puisse, dans certains cas, imputer la traînée rougeoyante qui suit les boules de feu à grande vitesse à l'échauffement de l'air. Mais, en admettant même que cet échauffement soit trop faible pour donner naissance à des fréquences lumineuses, il entraînera certainement des ascendances imprévues et de grande ampleur en haute atmosphère. Or, des pilotes d'avions à réaction ont déclaré avoir rencontré des couches nuageuses de plus de 3.000 mètres d'épaisseur à plus de 10.000 mètres d'altitude. Aucun réchauffement normal de l'air ne pourrait expliquer de telles formations; par contre, les sillages brûlants laissés par un groupe d'engins à très grande vitesse suffiraient à provoquer de telles ascendances.

Formation de cumulus:

Une des conséquences les plus étranges du mode de propulsion était, d'après ce que j'avais pensé, le risque de voir un petit cumulus se former par le plus bleu des ciels, au-dessus de l'engin stationnant à faible altitude. En effet, la colonne d'air soumise au champ ne "pesant" plus ou presque, il se produirait un courant d'air ascendant assez violent pour crever éventuellement l'inversion cause de la pureté du ciel. Et s'il n'y avait pas inversion, l'ascendance n'en serait que plus forte. On aurait donc quelque chance de voir apparaître soudain un petit cumulus capable de se déplacer, au besoin contre le vent!

Or, les journaux du 3 janvier 1953 ont relaté l'aventure d'un chasseur de vanneaux, ancien pilote de l'Armée de l'Air qui a vu, avec la stupéfaction que l'on devine, un petit cumulonimbus isolé dans un ciel pur se déplacer à la verticale, puis laisser jaillir de son sein une chose indéterminée qui disparut rapidement en laissant derrière elle une traînée blanche. Ceci laisse supposer que le pilote de l'engin s'était volontairement placé dans le nuage pour bénéficier du camouflage providentiel qu'il pouvait ainsi créer. Je serais heureux si cette hypothèse avait comme conséquence d'effacer les doutes que certains journalistes ont manifesté quant à l'équilibre mental du témoin - doute que lui-même n'a peut-être pas été loin, pendant un moment, de partager.

Boule blanche tournoyante:

Autour de l'engin, se forme, dans le cas d'une montée oblique, une zone dépressionnaire due à la force centrifuge créée par le tournoiement, à la divergeance des filets d'air et à l'effet de "succion" du champ. Dans certains cas d'atmosphère humide, et l'ionisation aidant, il se produira une condensation par détente adiabatique dans cette zone et des vapeurs blanches suivant la circulation aérodynamique. On aura l'impression d'une boule blanche escaladant le ciel en roulant à l'envers. Le cas sera identique en descente oblique, et correspondra, comme celui de la montée, à des conditions bien précises de vitesse propre, d'angle de trajectoire et d'humidité atmosphérique.

Hypothèse sur l'engin lui-même:

La vérification de ces conséquences venant après l'explication donnée aux quatres mystères, et surtout les observations de certaines caractéristiques que j'avais été amené à prévoir m'ont transformé en "Soucoupiste" ardent. J'ai voulu chercher la voie à suivre pour trouver la solution. Mais les données de la physique nucléaire et cosmique, si elle font entrevoir dans leurs mystères encore irrésolus des domaines d'investigation possibles, ne permettent pas de déterminer le montage des éléments assurant la propulsion.

N'ayant pas la possibilité de chercher dans cette voie, je me suis contenté comme je l'ai dit plus haut, de jouer au physicien détective, basant mes hypothèses sur les observations qui m'apparaissaient les plus sûres. Je les donne donc pour ce qu'elles valent, en m'excusant auprès des lecteurs de ne pas les entraîner sur les chemins parfois tortueux que j'ai dû emprunter. Je n'exposerai d'ailleurs que les moins choquantes.

Les atomes de l'engin doivent présenter une caractéristique qui leur permette de subir d'une façon homogène la force appliquée par l'énergie cosmique, comme la "bicoloration" du tourniquet photométrique lui permet de subir celle de la lumière.

Cette caractéristique pourrait être due simplement à l'action du champ magnétique solenoïdal d'un énorme tore conditionnant, comme on va le voir la "réceptivité" des atomes. Mais l'élément principal de la fonction propulsive serait le disque proprement dit qui constituerait une énorme lentille métallique. Les qualités atomiques de ses constituants jointes à celles de ses dioptres, lui confèreraient une action prépondérante sur une certaine partie de l'espace, peut-être par l'intermédiaire du champ, et qui amènerait l'énergie cosmique à se libérer sous la forme d'un fluide "corpusculo-ondulatoire". Cette libération se ferait progressivement, dans un sens unique imposé par les lignes de forces du champ magnétique, et l'aspect corpusculaire du fluide s'affirmerait de plus en plus vers l'avant sous la forme d'un rayonnement dense de particules positives, pendant que son énergie "propulsive" diminuerait d'autant.

L'aspect que mes dernières hypothèses imposeraient à la "Soucoupe".

Le rayonnement positif amènerait sans doute, par contre-coup, rayonnement négatif vers l'arrière, par arrachement d'électrons aux atomes de l'air et de l'engin. Les quelques particules positives déjà créées à l'arrière s'uniraient avec certains d'entre eux, d'où l'apparition de ces étincelles signalées par certains témoins, même en plein jour. Mais surtout ces deux rayonnements provoqueraient une certaines luminescence de l'air, ce qui expliquerait l'aspect de "boule de feu" imprécise. De plus, une faible partie de ces particules se rejoindrait en perdant leur ionisation, dans la zone marginale intermédiaire, entraînant l'apparition d'éclats aveuglants, d'où les anneaux colorés observés par les témoins. Enfin, la luminescence allant probablement de pair avec l'intensité du champ de forces, les surfaces "seuils" seraient sensiblement homothétiques des surfaces équidynamiques. L'observation d'oeuf volant souvent relatée, notamment par deux pilotes d'Air-France, semble confirmer cette hypothèse. De plus, l'évolution de ces surfaces rondes à l'arrêt (boule orange), ovoïdes à axe horizontal en pleine vitesse (oeuf volant), semble bien obéïr à l'évolution des lignes de forces du solénoïde, leur triple coloration - vert, jaune, orange - étant alors le fait d'un effet Zeeman autour de la fréquence de base, le jaune. Ceci confirmerait l'existence d'un champ magnétique. Enfin, les apparitions de "champignons renversés" et de "cornets de glace renversés" trouveraient là encore une explication, en supposant que le flux électronique soit plus luminescent que le flux positif et qu'il suive plus fidèlement le tracé des lignes de forces du solénoïde.

Une hypothèse encore plus étrange pourrait expliquer les masses de "fils de la Vierge" ou "d'ouate blanche" qui suivirent de nombreuses observations dont celles d'Oloron et Gaillac en octobre dernier. Il s'agirait de la trace laissée derrière elles par les particules positive se combinant chimiquement, peut-être au cours même de leur genèse, avec les particules voisines ou les constituants de l'air, notamment la vapeur d'eau. Cela implique que les particules seraient énormes et les fils extrêmement tendus, d'où l'aspect d'ouate. La brillance de cette ouate et surtout son hydrophilie exceptionnelle, feraient penser à de mystérieux sels se sublimant au contact du sol par suite de la perte de leur ionisation, cause de leur fugitive stabilité. Mais comme personne n'a jamais pris la peine de les recueillir, les renseignements capitaux qu'auraient pu donner les résultats de l'analyse se sont eux aussi volatilisés à tout jamais, et c'est dommage... Notons que si l'on songe à la faible densité du rayonnement primaire cosmique qui semble bien, lui aussi, être constitué de particules positives, plus précisément des protons, et si on fait correspondre la pesanteur, on imagine aisément la "pesanteur orientable" énorme que peut produire un fluide capable d'engendrer de telles particules!

En ce qui concerne le pilotage proprement dit, l'excentration de la résultante moyenne du champ serait obtenue par un écran excentrable qui absorberait ou dévierait en partie le fluide accélérateur. D'autre part, le champ devrait être affaibli dans l'habitacle pour éviter que le pilote soit plaqué contre la paroi avant, et aussi pour que l'absence de pesanteur ne vienne pas troubler son équilibre physiologique, ce qui ne lui permettrait même pas de rester assis. L'écran devrait donc, logiquement, remplir ces deux fonctions, d'où la probabilité de voir apparaître, sur les photographies, une "ombre noire" centrale, légèrement excentrée suivant les besoins, et correspondant à un affaiblissement partiel du rayonnement, donc de la luminescence. Les photos prises en Août dernier par Monsieur Frégnale au lac Chauvet semblent confirmer, après coup, cette hypothèse.

Voici exposés quelques-uns des aspects d'une théorie établie sans avoir au départ la moindre idée qu'elle puisse être appliquée un jour aux Soucoupes Volantes. J'ai dit dans quelles conditions j'ai été amené à m'întéresser à ces objets; partant d'un postulat: existence d'une énergie cosmique mystérieuse, et d'une hypothèse: possibilité de libérer cette énergie sous la forme d'une énergie d'une autre nature entraînant l'application d'une force à chaque noyau atomique, j'ai essayé de définir les caractéristiques d'un engin supersonique idéal. Je me suis rendu compte par la suite qu'il aurait toutes les caractéristiques attribuées aux Soucoupes Volantes.

Je sais bien que ma théorie est loin d'être parfaite et qu'elle ne satisfera ni les "anti-soucoupistes" ni les scientifiques particulièrement scrupuleux. On m'accusera sans doute de me livrer, partant de bases discutables, à une construction de l'esprit toute gratuite et de chercher, dans des témoignages imprécis, une confirmation de mes hypothèses. Sans parler des précisions apportées, au fond assez gratuitement, sur les caractéristiques de l'engin, on en critiquera le principe même. Il est évident qu'on ne connaît actuellement pas de champs de forces ayant la caractéristique séduisante d'appliquer à tout noyau atomique une force dont l'intensité serait aussi facilement contrôlable dans l'espace et le temps. Même en admettant cette possibilité, les lois de la mécanique classique exigent un système de référence au point de vue réaction, et la physique non moins classique n'en laisse entrevoir aucun. L'énergie cosmique pourrait très bien le fournir par une sorte de différence de son potentiel, mais cette énergie cosmique est elle-même bien hypothétique. Si la genèse du rayonnement cosmique peut lui être attribuée, comment expliquer alors que l'on n'ait pas décélé son existence par d'autres interférences en électro-magnétisme?

Et pourtant, peut-on nier les témoignages sur les habitudes mystérieuses des Soucoupes? Raisonnablement non, à mon avis. Il faut bien convenir alors que seul le mode de propulsion consistant à appliquer une force à tous les atomes explique entièrement ces mystères, à la seule condition que cette force décroisse, d'une façon continue, à l'avant comme à l'arrière et que le procédé utilisé crée une luminescence de l'air. Si l'on ajoute que toutes les conséquences de ce mode de propulsion coïncident absolument avec les observations les plus fantaisistes (et certaines de ces déductions ont précédé les observations) - il faut admettre que le hasard fait décidément bien les choses.

La physique classique rejette la notion d'un champ de forces aussi peu orthodoxe et encore plus celle d'une énergie cosmique qui aurait réussi le tour de force d'échapper aux recherches de plusieurs siècles. Mais il est peut-être un domaine qu'elle n'a jamais abordé ni même effleuré, et où elle progressera à pas de géant sitôt qu'elle en aura forcé l'enceinte. Nos hypothétiques visiteurs, en avance sur nous de quelques lustres ou de quelques siècles, en ont peut-être la pleine connaissance et cela suffit à tout expliquer.

Je sais bien que beaucoup de gens ne voudront jamais se soumettre à ces raisons tant qu'ils n'auront pas la preuve irréfutable que les Soucoupes sont bien des engins pilotés. En ce qui me concerne, et j'insiste sur ce point, j'en suis convaincu. J'ai recueilli trop de témoignages de gens à la "tête bien faite et bien pleine" pour douter encore. Les gens de sciences répugnent, et ils ont raison, à s'embarquer pour la pêche au monstre, qu'il soit du Loch Ness ou d'ailleurs. Il faut donc prouver que les engins existent et, aussitôt, ils se mettront courageusement à l'oeuvre, apportant à rechercher les solutions d'autant d'audace intellectuelle qu'ils auront mis de prudence à s'y décider.

C'est pourquoi, je souhaite ardemment qu'une enquête sérieuse, du genre de celle qui est menée en Amérique vienne attirer l'attention des gens qualifiés sur cet étrange problème. Toute explication, même si elle comporte la révélation d'un danger pour notre pays ou notre planète, est préférable à l'inertie actuelle. Les railleurs, les sceptiques et les indifférents n'ont jamais été bâtisseurs ou défenseurs d'oeuvres humaines.

Il faut, en dehors de toute plaisanterie ou de toute position métaphysique, rechercher rationnellement la cause de ces phénomènes. S'ils sont naturels, tant pis pour mes théories et... mon amour-propre. Mais s'il est prouvé qu'on se trouve bien en présence d'engins volants, aucun effort ne doit être épargné pour en déterminer la nature et l'origine.

‘Alien’ Human Hybrid Program

Alien abduction researcher Dr. David Jacobs joined George Knapp for a discussion on ET hybrids as well as the recent attacks on his work. He made the case that, based on the evolution of what has been learned about abductions, the purpose of the phenomena is ultimately for ET hybrids to be integrated into our society.

Jacobs noted that the timetable for this integration had seemed nebulous until around 2003, when he began hearing from abductees that “they were here.” So cumulative were these reports that Jacobs concluded that “not only is it happening soon, it’s happening now.” While he admitted that the agenda behind the hybrid integration remains a mystery, Jacobs was suspicious of it because of the ETs’ clandestine nature and that, given their apparent abilities to control human minds, this hybridization has the potential to “make us a second class species.”Regarding the recent criticisms of his work by a former research subject, Jacobs said that “I’m not embroiled in a fight, I’m just sitting back and watching this thing swirl around.” He responded to the critique that, as a historian, he is not qualified to use hypnosis on potential abductees by contending that the abduction phenomenon is so unique and specialized that “regular hypnotists cannot do this.”

To that end, he said that hypnotists and people in the mental health field often “throw up their hands and don’t know what to do” with potential abductees and, in turn, refer them to him. As such, he asserted that one person’s criticism of his methods should “absolutely not” call into question the legitimacy of hypnosis being used in abduction research. Despite that, he lamented that the “diabolical aspect” of these recent criticisms is that they do indeed threaten to “sully all of hypnosis and all of abductions.”

He began researching the controversy over unidentified flying objects in America in the mid 1960s, and has amassed over 35 years of primary research data and analytical hypotheses on the subject. 'Zwevende lepel' gespot op Mars - HLN.be

We weten niet of er leven is op Mars. Wel werden al een rondborstige vrouw met paraplu en een verkeerslicht aangetroffen op foto's van de rode planeet. Nu is er ook bestek gespot op Mars.

Volgens Britse wetenschappers bewijst deze foto dat buitenaards leven bestaat

Dit is ‘m dan: de foto van een mysterieus buitenaards ‘organisme’ die volgens wetenschappers bewijst dat aliens bestaan.

Het wezentje is ontdekt door met krachtige magneten stukjes puin uit de ruimte op te vangen. Dit deeltje is een ‘levende entiteit’, aldus onderzoekers. Professor Milton Wainwright van de Universiteit van Buckingham claimt dat de foto bewijst dat er leven buiten de aarde is.

Panspermie

Wainwright legde uit dat op de foto een zoutkristal is te zien, waar het bizarre gehoornde wezen doorheen breekt. Hij voegde toe dat de vondst aansluit op de hypothese van panspermie, die stelt dat er niet alleen leven in de ruimte is, maar dat het constant op de aarde terechtkomt.

“De foto toont volgens ons buitenaardse microben hoog in de stratosfeer,” aldus professor Wainwright. “Ons team heeft de laatste paar jaar voor nogal wat ophef gezorgd door te beweren dat deze microben constant de aarde bereiken. Critici hebben nog geen alternatieve verklaring kunnen geven voor ons werk.”

Niet alleen

Hij zei dat het gaat om een vormloos organisme dat zich heeft gehecht aan een zoutkorrel. Het bevat zeldzame elementen als dysprosium, lutetium, neodymium en niobium. De gevonden deeltjes hebben een te grote massa om vanaf het aardoppervlak naar de stratosfeer te zijn gedragen en moeten dus uit de ruimte komen, aldus Wainwright.

Hij wordt gesteund door collega Chandra Wickramasinghe, die al geruime tijd zegt dat we niet alleen zijn in het heelal. Wickramasinghe en astrobioloog Gensuke Tokoro hebben een studie gepubliceerd waarin ze concluderen dat buitenaardse microben bestaan.

Maak kennis met Lydia Sebastian, een 12-jarig (!) meisje dat nu al slimmer is dan Hawking en Einstein

Lydia Sebastian is pas 12 jaar, maar haar intelligentie overstijgt nu al die van de grootste genieën ter wereld. De Britse heeft de maximumscore behaald op de Mensa IQ-test, die ontworpen is om mensen met een zeer hoog IQ te testen. Daarmee laat ze genieën als Stephen Hawking en Albert Einstein achter zich.

“Ik had gewoon eens zin om de test te doen en hij was best makkelijk,” zei de nuchtere Britse tegenover de Colchester Gazette. “Ik was eerst bloednerveus, maar toen ik begonnen was aan de test bleek hij veel gemakkelijker dan ik had gedacht.”

Mensa is de oudste vereniging voor hoogbegaafden ter wereld. Mensen die bij een normale IQ-test in de bovenste twee procent van de bevolking scoren, kunnen worden toegelaten tot de exclusieve club. Wie 132 of hoger scoort op de testen van Mensa, wordt automatisch lid van de organisatie. Het jongste lid van de Britse Mensa is 2,5, dus Lydia is niet het jongste lid van het land.

Toen de resultaten in de brievenbus vielen, waren de ouders van Lydia stomverbaasd. Hun dochter had een score van 162 behaald. Einstein en Hawking scoorden allebei 160. Lydia zit in de tweede klas van de middelbare school en heeft een voorliefde voor wiskunde. Ze wil binnenkort ook eens een wiskundetest gaan doen.

Marsrover Curiosity spot mysterieuze ‘lepel’ op rode planeet

Wetenschappers weten niet zeker of er leven is op Mars. Door internetgebruikers werden onlangs al een vrouw met paraplu en gecrashte UFO op foto’s van de rode planeet gespot. Nu is er ook een mysterieuze zwevende lepel aangetroffen op Mars.

De vondst werd gedaan door gebruikers van het forum van Unmanned Spaceflight. Volgens NASA-wetenschappers gaat het waarschijnlijk om een windkei of windkanter. Daarbij krijgt gesteente een bepaalde vorm onder invloed van de wind.

Onderzoekers denken dat de rode planeet ooit warm en vochtig was, zoals de aarde. Marsjeep Curiosity ontdekte eerder al dat een deel van Mars ooit microbiologisch leven kende. Het ruimtevaartuig van de NASA observeert al geruime tijd de planeet.

De foto van de lepel is op 30 augustus jongstleden gemaakt. Curiosity zet nu koers naar Mount Sharp, een berg op het Marsoppervlak. Op de foto is te zien hoe een schaduw van de ‘lepel’ op het oppervlak van de rode planeet valt. Het is onduidelijk hoe oud de rotsformatie precies is.

Aliens boven Hoorn, Nederland  ( Video )

Soms komen er juwelen van verhalen boven water en dat lijkt nu ook het geval met het mysterie van aliens boven Hoorn.

In de zomer en najaar van 2008 gebeurde er bijzondere dingen boven West Friesland en wij hopen dat er nog meer getuigen komen. 

Het is nu zeven jaar geleden dat er een aantal keren in West Friesland iets heel bijzonders waar te nemen was. 

Iets dat weinig of geen publiciteit heeft gekregen, maar het verdient om nader onderzocht te worden. 

Het verhaal kwam binnen via een lezeres (dank!) die ons het volgende stuurde: 

Dit is wel een van jaren geleden maar ik denk dat ik het toch naar buiten wil brengen. Ik las toen in die tijd nog niet op jullie website maar nu wel en weet dat ik het jullie kan vertellen. 

In september 2008 gingen ik (was toen 16 jaar) en mijn vader naar de supermarkt, buiten was het donker en ik zag in de lucht een enorme rode bol zitten dat leek op de maan maar dan veel groter. 

Ik zei het tegen mijn vader en die zei dat we ernaar zouden kijken op de terugweg. Op de terugweg hing dat ding er nog steeds en heeft mijn vader zijn auto op de dijk geparkeerd en zijn we ernaar gaan kijken. 

Ik dacht dat het misschien Nibiru zou zijn maar dat leek mij onwaarschijnlijk, omdat er verder niets raars gebeurde en het weer was rustig. 

De maan kon het ook niet zijn, want dit was vele malen groter dan de maan en rood. We hebben er een tijd naar staan kijken en zijn daarna naar huis gegaan maar had geen idee wat dit had kunnen zijn. 

Waarschijnlijk een hele grote ufo denken we. Mijn vader grapje van dat dit groot nieuws is maar vast de kranten niet gaat halen en dat is ook zo, want ik heb verder er niemand over gehoord, terwijl dit gewoon niet kon missen. 

Ik was toen thuis gelijk het internet opgedoken en het enige wat ik kon vinden was een (of twee dat weet ik niet zeker meer) filmpje(s) op Youtube en op het Marktplaats forum dat er toen nog was had iemand uit Enkhuizen gereageerd of andere mensen dat ding ook gezien hebben. 

Mensen reageerden er flauw op en niemand nam het serieus. Op Youtube is nog steeds een filmpje te vinden met de titel “ALIENS BOVEN HOORN”. 

Dit is wat wij toen ook gezien hadden maar dan veel groter. Dit was zeker niet boven Hoorn maar meer richting Enkhuizen of boven het IJsselmeer. 

Maar vanuit Hoorn konden ze dat ding dus ook zien maar dan uiteraard kleiner omdat het verder weg was. 

Ik vraag mij nog steeds af wat het was en als het een ufo is wat die zo dicht bij de aarde deed en wie nog meer het hebben gezien, behalve ik, mijn vader, die persoon op het Marktplaats forum in Enkhuizen en die mensen van dat Youtube filmpje. 

Wat de mensen in Hoorn zagen enige maanden eerder is je zien op de volgende afbeeldingen. Niet alleen een grote oranje bol, maar ook daaromheen kleinere oranje-achtige bollen.

De bovenstaande afbeeldingen zijn afkomstig van de video "aliens boven Hoorn" waar de lezeres over sprak. Deze is navolgend te zien en enkele commentaren eronder uit 2008 zijn ook interessant:

We hebben ze gister (een stuk of 8-10) over onze huizenblok gehad! F*cking freaky! Als ik het zelf niet had gezien (ben nog helemaal hyped) zou ik misschien ook zo reageren, dat wel... 

Duidelijk is dat er in die periode in West Friesland vreemde dingen waar te nemen waren aan de hemel. 

 

Wat ons verbaast, is dat dit fenomeen zo opvallend was dat het door talloze mensen in die periode gezien moet zijn. We praten dan over de maand juni 2008 in Hoorn en september 2008 meer richting Enkhuizen.

Glowing UFO During Sunset Over Tulsa, Oklahoma On Aug 5, 2015, Video, UFO Sighting News.

I have always said, if you want to see a UFO, go watch a few sunsets. During a sunset, UFOs are vulnerable to the suns rays at a 90 degree in the sky, causing the cloak to become visible for 30 seconds to 10 minutes. This UFO was moving fast. In the two minutes of footage, at the end the object disappeared of the clouds on the horizon.

Eyewitness states:
I was driving home from work on highway 169 northbound. I noticed it slowly descending in the western sky during sunset. It was falling slowly enough to catch my attention. I pulled out my phone and took a photo, then started recording. I recorded it for a little over two minutes. When I got home I showed it to my wife and she could not identify it. I posted it the next day on Facebook. It attracted lots of attention. Multiple people recommended I report it to this site. It may simply be a passing comet, however it's glow never dissipated and it did not give off a tail/trail behind it.

This Antelope mass death was an experiment by aliens. It is well known to the Kazakhstan government that aliens are making use of an underwater base in the Caspian Sea which Kazakhstan boarders. The Head of Azerbaijan's national Aerospace Agency has confirmed this allegation when he stated bluntly that the old USSR constantly monitored alien spaceships that were frequently recorded entering the water, but due to security concerns, kept this a secret. 

I do not believe that the aliens in the base care about the people of Kazakhstan, but the opposite. Back in May 14, 2014, I watched a video of a rocket living off in Kazakhstan, and caught a UFO that flew at and hit the rocket on video! The collision with the UFO resulted seconds later in a massive explosion of the rocket. This is proof that the aliens in the Caspian Sea base actually dislike everything about the country...including its wildlife. This experiment, could be the 1st step into aliens creating a similar bacteria that will wipe out humanity, leaving the rest of the planet untouched.

"But since there happened to be die-offs of limited extent during the last years, at first we were not really alarmed," Zuther, the international coordinator of the Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative, told Live Science. But within four days, the entire herd — 60,000 saiga — had died. UFO Caught On Google Earth In Nova Scotia, Canada On Aug 2015, UFO Sighting News.

This was sent into me on Twitter this week. Its an UFO hovering over two cars. I went to Google Earth to find it and confirm the discovery and yes, it is there. Its very difficult to see it. It may take 3-5 minutes to adjust your position from the cars to get it just right. I used the mouse to move, but then switched to use the arrow keys on my keyboard. They worked. 

The UFO looks like a side view of disk and when I tried to enhance its focus, I found that there is an aura around it.

Alleged UFO Abduction Celebrated With a Monument in Massachusetts

Earlier this year, the Museum and Great Barrington Historical Society initiated an alleged UFO alien abduction and sighting. An association of witnesses who encountered strange incidents erected a monument this week to commemorate such incident. The monument was funded and set up by a coalition of witnesses present on that momentous night in 1969. Thomas Reed is one of the principal witnesses of the event. According to him, he and his family experienced an odd encounter at the site of the monument in 1969.

The Boston Globe reported in an article concerning the incident being inducted; Reed says the sighting was a string of odd encounters he and his family experienced in 1966. The first meeting took place when Reed was six years old on their horse farm. He and his younger brother saw odd lights from the forest. He also witnessed strange figures in the hallway. They saw a huge disc-shaped craft being taken aboard. Over the next few years, they experienced similar incidents. In one occurrence, Reed recalls odd lights in the sky while driving with his younger brother, mother, and grandmother. Afterwards, they found themselves in a massive room where they met two huge ant-like creatures.

The location of the monument is near to the location where the incident occurred. According to him, the statue means a lot to Reed and his family. Following their formal induction letter, the 6-foot commemorative monument marked their first official Alien induction case in the United States. In fact, it is a triumph. The people who experienced the sighting have made a mainstream contribution.

Navy Ship Shadowed by Huge Alien Craft

USS Dyess DD-880 was on a shakedown cruise to Gitmo (Guantanamo Naval Base) in Cuba. The captain called all hands on deck and called for the special sea and anchor detail. We were headed right for a Copper Top and Silver Body UFO that we were tracking on Sonar and Radar. We were heading for the thing at 20 Knots. Most of us were either confused or scared. This thing was as big as the Forrestal Aircraft carrier. Not in height but, in length and we could see it from 10 miles away.

All of a sudden, the thing started to move away from us at incredible speed and we lost the “contact”. The captain said he would log it as another “unexplained mystery” of the Bermuda Triangle. Apparently, the captain knew much more about the place then we did.  I was nineteen at the time and have been reliving that experience almost every day since we saw it. By we, I mean every man on the Dyess that wasn’t on duty. Maybe two hundred of us and the Captain and the XO. I have told people about the experience and they just “snicker”. I was interested in finding out if the logs of the USS Dyess were researched by you or the incident had ever been made public. Mars Life?

This is a Mars creature moving across the surface near the landing spot of the Opportunity Rover. The animal looks a lot like a shrimp or rat. Mark McCandlish’s Letter

Redding, California — Mark McCandlish writes, “I have two witnesses that have seen a very similar Mothership to the Navy Chief in Filer’s Files #31 with billowing clouds and flames within the last two years west of Redding. Another person saw this same huge vehicle over Death Valley, traveling at an unbelievable rate from east to west at dusk about fifteen years ago. In both instances, the craft was silver, rounded at the front, a squarish cylinder cross-section and flat trailing end. The Death Valley sighting included an intense light emitted from the aft end of the craft. The “stretched” appearance of the craft before disappearance was a side effect of going to warp.”

CARBON CANYON – “I personally witnessed a similar event in 1992, that began with a brilliant flash of light which faded in intensity, then grew in size, having a somewhat spherical shape, which immediately began descending at about a 45 degree angle, moving in a southwesterly direction.” says, Mark McCandlish.  Appearing directly behind the glowing craft was a series of what at first looked like a group of gold bars.  They moved in unison with the sphere, maintaining their relative position to it and to one-another. It wasn’t until later that I realized these were the stretched images of stars from the part of space where this craft had initiated its warp travel sequence, the image being pulled along behind the craft in the process.  The stars would have been white, and the sudden movement away from them would cause their light to red shift into the yellowish-gold coloration I witnessed.

CHINA SEA –In one eye witness account I have on file, a B-52 navigator described the departure of a one quarter of a mile diameter disc that had paced his bomber for a half hour in 1967 over the South China Sea: “It moved a little ways off from our aircraft, the huge turbine blades around the circumference of its edge began moving faster and faster… Then, suddenly it shot away from us, leaving in its wake a shimmering tube of day lit sky with clouds in it.  This image persisted for a few seconds after it left, and the FBI agents that debriefed us were really interested in this aspect of the encounter.”

“The Day the Earth Stood Still”

I happened to meet Michael Rennie while sitting next to him on a flight from Los Angeles to Chicago. I was in my uniform, and he was very friendly talking about his frequent work with the US Air Force and that he had made many movies and training films for the Air Force. He asked if I had seen his picture “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, because it was very important and contained an Earth saving message. He implied the US Air Force had helped in making the film with shots of UFOs. The interior of the disc in the film for 1951 had some surprising technology. It was a warning about nuclear weapons and a warning the Earth would be destroyed if we move off the planet with weapons. Michael Rennie played Klaatu an alien who comes to Earth and is helped by a huge robot and Patricia Neal who plays Helen Benson.

The movie script states:

“Helen Benson: I need to know what’s happening.

Klaatu: This planet is dying. The human race is killing it.

Helen Benson: So you’ve come here to help us.

Klaatu: No, *I* didn’t.

Helen Benson: You said you came to save us.

Klaatu: I said I came to save the Earth.

Helen Benson: You came to save the Earth… from us. You came to save the Earth *from* us.

Klaatu: We can’t risk the survival of this planet for the sake of one species.

Helen Benson: What are you saying?

Klaatu: If the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the Earth survives. There are only a handful of planets in the cosmos that are capable of supporting complex life.

UFOs Fly Straight Lines or Ley Lines over Sacred Sites

The presence of prehistoric sites – megalithic tombs, stone circles and standing stones, Ley Lines indicated that these energy currents were known in prehistoric times and that the sites did not merely mark the route but somehow also tapped into this energy source. Frequently, important prehistoric monuments occupy sites where two or more Ley Lines intersect. Also located along these Ley Lines are sites associated with Dragons and Dragon Killers.

The early British Christians built their churches on the old sacred sites, which is a reason why most old churches are also on Ley Lines of energy coursing through the earth. The two early Saints Michael and George took over hill and dale. Both of these Saints were famous Dragon killers.

St. Michael kept a lookout over the high ridges, and St. George took over the lowlands. On St. Michael’s feast day, which was originally celebrated on the Fall Equinox, but was later changed to the 29th of September, everyone spends the night celebrating. Dowsers who have experimented with Ley Lines have found that many double in width at sunrise and sunset, and fluctuate during the phases of the moon and at the change of the seasons. The energy is most intense at noon on the full moon, but quiets down just before the sunset. The energy has been known to reverse direction at times. The E-line is the largest ley line found. This line circles the globe and is 70 to 100 paces in width. It is thought UFOs use the Ley Linesfor navigation or possible propulsion.

Flying Saucers – Serious Business

The blurb on the cover of the UK paperback edition of this book says, “The Book that for Months Topped the American Bestseller Lists”. Frank Edwards released this book at exactly the right time. The title “Flying Saucers – Serious business” is from an Air Force order issued to all Air Force personal on December 24, 1959. This is a very important book. The author Frank Edwards (a hugely popular journalist and radio personality) collected the information in this book until published in 1966. Here are the accounts early in the US Governments cover up with details on how UFO censorship changed over time. Many interesting cases are documented back to the 19th Century including many that are becoming forgotten today.

What stands out is how much UFO activity there has been in this century, especially since the 1940s. Roswell is only mentioned in passing while other nearly forgotten cases are detailed. This book is a UFO research missing link because it was written so much closer in time to the major UFO events from the 1940s to the 1960s by a man that spent much of his life collecting the evidence. From August 1965, interest in UFOs had been building following numerous sightings and in early 1966, even the mainstream press started taking the subject seriously.

Moon Base

In addition, Carl Sagan had been talking up the prospect of extraterrestrial visitation; Edwards includes some details of his December 1962 speech to the American Rocket Society in which he said that,“Intelligent beings from elsewhere may have bases on the averted side of the moon. Edwards crams in details of as many sightings as possible.

He reports his 1961 interview with Wilbur Smith in which he discusses the nature of the fragment of disc from a disc shot at during the alleged 1952 Washington UFO invasion. In addition, he tells about the Kelly-Hopkinsville incident, where a family is under siege by little aliens.

Frank Edwards 1966 best-selling “Flying Saucers–Serious Business,” on pages 86 and published by Citadel Press in Secaucus, N.J. The quoted interview comes, according to Edwards, from an audio tape that UFO investigators “C.W. Fich and George Popovitch made while interviewing Canadian scientist Wilbur Smith of the Canadian Government.

 Fitch: Have you ever handled any of this hardware (UFO material) yourself, sir?

Smith: Yes, Quite a bit of it. Our Canadian Research Group has recovered one mass of very strange metal…it was found within a few days of July 1, 1960. There is about 3000 pounds of it…We are speculating that what we have is a portion of a very large device which came into this solar system..We don’t know when…but it had been in space a long time before it came to Earth; we can tell that by the micrometeorites embedded in the surface.

Fitch: You mean then that you have about a ton and a half of something metallic, of unknown origin.

Smith: That is correct. We can only speculate about it at this time—and we have done a great deal of that. We have it but we don’t know what it is!

Page 76: “There are such difficult cases as the rancher near Roswell, New Mexico, who phoned the Sheriff that a blazing disc-shaped object had passed over his house at low altitude and had crashed and burned on a hillside within view of his house. The Sheriff called the military; the military came on the double quick. Reporters were not permitted in the area. A week later, however, the government released a photo of a service man holding up a box kite with an aluminum disc about the size of a large pie pan dangling from the bottom of the kite….”

If anyone had the resources and contacts it would have been Edwards, who for years hosted a coast-to-coast radio show that would make Art Bell’s look puny.  He also had published other books that sold in the millions; so he had the money and certainly the desire to seek this story out.

Alaska Orbs

This person went over his video carefully and found out he caught four UFO orbs leaving the top of a mountain in Alaska on August 25, 2015

The quality of the video is poor, but at least he caught it, so we know he did see something. UFOs are often seen entering and exiting mountains in various places around the world. Alaska has a very low population, and that’s what aliens like when choosing to make a base underground. Eyewitness states:

California Triangle

Santa Monica Mountains – On August 26, 2015 at 10:55 pm, I saw VERY colorful blinking lights to the northwest just above the mountaintops. At first, I thought it was a silent helicopter until I looked more closely and saw it was amazingly colorful. It had an amazing array of bright colors that pulsated very quickly and yet fuzzy like a big star. It was pulsating colors, flashing, and maneuvering very quickly. I never seen an object move so erratically and videoed for 7 minutes. I videoed the object in sharp shapes and pulsating colors. After it moved for a bit it then appeared to remain in one spot. Tujunga – I awoke from a deep sleep and my room was lit up with my big window open and I looked outside and saw all these small beings about three foot tall childlike little being s in July of 1993. They seemed very happy and I felt very safe and not scared at all. My boyfriend was asleep in the bed next to me and never woke up. Little beings came from a light that came straight down into my backyard. My dogs never barked but kept by my side. I got up to see what was going on. I went to the sliding glass door in the next room and the little beings were there to greet me. I walked out the door but my two dogs stayed inside and did not bark as they often do. The beings were playing around me having fun and getting me laughing. They pulled me to the tunnel of the light and I went up into the light. I don’t remember anything beyond that.

This happened three nights in a row when a tall bald man wearing strange white and silver clothing awakened me. He looked just like the statue of a man found at the ancient Göbekli Tepee archeological site in Turkey. He had come to get me again and this time I was tired and did not want to go with him. I grabbed my pillow, threw it at him, and said, “I don’t want to go anymore!” That was the last I ever seen of them. When I was watching the TV show ancient aliens I saw the statue of the man and realized that was him. I had a small incision inside my right ankle in the shape of a triangle after this happened. Colorado Orb

Vail — I was first aware the object was in the town where I live from a local Buy and Sell Face book page. Someone posted a cell phone picture of it and asked if anyone else has seen it. They described it as a silver disc going slowly across the sky. A person 30 miles away in Vail said he could see it hovering above the Gore Range. I got in my car with my infrared camera, drove on I-70 going towards Vail, and saw it hovering there. I was very excited to get my first video before it was covered by dense clouds. Florida Pill

Tampa — I was sitting with my dog behind the glass door on August 25, 2015, and I looked up to see a silvery, pill-shaped object. It was very high up was traveling in a slow, straight line northward. I thought at first it was a jet, but I did a double take and realized it had no visible wings and left no trail. There was an airplane to the far left of the sky travelling in the same direction, and if the object was making any noise, it would have been drowned out by the plane. It was reflecting sunlight as it moved across the sky and then became blocked from view by trees. I didn’t see it after that. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Illinois Disc

Cicero – I was in my backyard on August 12, 2015, laying down near Midway Airport taking photos and video of the low flying planes. When I saw this peculiar white capsule, flying by it wasn’t as low as some of the regular airplanes. This thing clearly had no wings and was more chunky-looking. I don’t know what the object was and I am not saying it was a UFO. I don’t think this object departed from the airport and made no noise. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Minnesota Lights

Shakopee –- A co-worker of mine took this photo two nights ago on August 24, 2015, of a circle of lights. It looks to be the same as the one you posted. Has anyone determined what this may be?
Note: An almost identical photo was taken in Chanhassen, Minnesota on August 9, 2015. Click here to read this report. Also, the photo seems to show ground lights shining into the sky.  Mississippi Lights

Lewisburg — I am a 15+ year UFOlogist in the Memphis Metro area, this is the first one worthy of reporting that I shot on February 15, 2015. I had been seeing bright lights in that same location for several nights. It snowed yesterday, so it made it easier to see last night, and the craft was much closer, much brighter, and very visible. I ran outside at 12:46 AM CST and began filming of the hovering object low over cornfields. I ran out from bed with no shoes on in the snow 20 minutes it seemed to just vanish. It appeared to be one very large triangular craft with a 3-D effect when viewing. It ejected smaller orb lights.

Video shows tiny drone orbs that orbit the UFOs. These are guidance and defense orbs. They protect the main ship as an early warning system. The Orbs are circled in the image. New Jersey Massive Triangular Shape

Manalapan — I reported it to the Manalapan NJ Police Department and the cops think I am crazy. They said “Sorry Mame we cannot do anything about it”, REALLY! Something is flying over my head in our air space and you cannot do anything about it? It was around 9:50 PM on June 22, 2015. I looked to see this thing flying towards me as it got closer it got larger in size. It was massive about 300 feet wide and 400 feet long, extremely dark black, triangular shape, it reflected no light. I could see the triangular shape clearly and there were no lights anywhere. It was so very dark, scary, and very creepy, like a bat mobile. Thanks to MUFON CMS

New York Flying Object

Cheektowaga — On August 22, 2015, a shiny object caught my eye and I took a zoomed picture. I have never seen anything like it before. I spotted it above KBUF. It doesn’t look like a weather balloon as I have seen many launched. If you have any Idea, what it is let me know. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Rhode Island Lights

Providence — My husband and I went to our car with another couple, I decided to take a picture of the city skyline.

I took several shots with my IPhone, and noticed that there was a row of over 10 very tiny lights in the picture in a straight line.

It was high up in the sky. It’s just a straight line of tiny lights. In previous shots, there were no lights. My friend also had the lights in one of his shots. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Monessen – On August 1, 2015, I was out on the back deck.

I saw these lights in the sky and took three similar photos.

 Tennessee Lights

Rockwood — My friend and I pull up to the stop sign on August 28, 2015, and see a huge band of uneven lights with illumination between the lights. I try to take a picture, but it will not show up in my Android phone even though we both clearly see it. A police car pulls up behind my car and I point to the sky and ask him if that looks weird and he says, “Yes it kind of does either a UFO or something that belongs to our government”. He spent 35 years on night shift and he has never seen anything like it. He watches for a while and leaves.

Later, the bright huge light takes off and we follow north on Highway 27. The bottom was sort shaped like the batman symbol. It also has a row of bright lights on a solid band around it.

Note: An almost identical photo was taken in Chanhassen, Minnesota on August 9, 2015. The photo seems to show ground lights shining into the sky. Perhaps this could be a reflection of ground lights off the clouds? Thanks to William Puckett, Director UFOsnw

Washington DC Lights

District of Columbia — I have been seeing some large bright lights/hovering over D.C. from Brookland NE. I saw a white unmarked oblong craft during the day over Ft Totten Station. The first object over Brookland was a large bright red object over the Bnai Temple. During the months, I got off a train in Brookland between 10 PM and 12:30 AM. During several hours, I noticed many large bright objects over a brightly lit station. I noticed object was moving very quickly and zigzagging. A second larger blue-green object was directly opposite the initial red emitting object. In June, I took 600-700 photos of objects hovering, shape shifting, rotating, and morphing. Suddenly a high super warp speed oblong object flies by me very close. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Worldwide UFO Sightings

Australia Disc

Townsville — My name is Roy Fox and back on March 31, 1973, my wife Dianne and I had a very up close and personal experience with a large orange/red UFO that appeared over us and closely interacted with us for a considerable but undetermined length of time. The start of the experience was at about 9.15 PM and there appear to be at least three clear fully conscious experiences of very close contact and communication and interaction with this object. The experience ended when we found ourselves back at our apartment at about 00.15 with no clear recollection of the one-mile drive home.

While on the internet, I saw a photograph of an identical object. The story said that Carlos Diaz in Mexico took the photograph. I tried many ways to contact Carlos Diaz all failed. It took me six years to finally connect with Carlos Diaz in Mexico, and through the help of many powerful people in Mexico, I have been to Mexico a number of times. I have been graciously accepted and welcomed into a loving, peaceful, group who has patiently and slowly educated me regarding my place in the scheme of things regarding the survival of all forms of life on this planet. Broome – I took this rather dull image from the cabin window of the Kimberley Quest 2 (cruise boat) in early morning on June 6, 2011, when we were cruising along the Kimberley coast of Western Australia. Upon returning home, while zooming in I found this image of a shiny and reflective half-hidden object with multiple lights. I didn’t see it when I took the photographed. This strange cloudbank was the only one around for miles that quickly disappeared. There is no part of the inside of the camera that remotely resembles the object. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Brazil Twin Lights

Campo Largo, Parana – I sighted two twin lights brighter than Venus did on August 30, 2015. They were one degree apart at a 20-degree elevation. They had identical behavior, stationary and certainly, they were not aircraft, flares or satellites. They remained at maximum brightness for 5 seconds decreasing linearly for about 10 seconds. Canada Cylinder

Scarborough, Ontario — Paul Shishis writes, “Here is another bizarre sighting taken on August 14, 2015 @ 10:10 am. While on morning break outside work having a smoke. I witnessed three strange objects crossing west to east about quarter mile south about one or more thousand feet. The trio moved together with two higher than one”. Could these be balloons as it is a hard call to decide? Due to shape and color really makes one wonder. They were sighted for near five minutes until out o sight heading eastward. I snapped pictures and video at a long distance to the west of this bright white object. I continued to observe and take pictures until it went east over my roof. It was not a balloon due to being so slow – near stationary being there was some wind that morning. Thanks to Paul Shishis

Greece Object

Chios Island – I was cycling and my boyfriend took a picture of me and something appeared in the photo on August 25, 2015 taken by an iPhone 6. We did not actually witness the event but we captured it on the photo unknowingly!

We took the same picture twice within a minute nearing sunset, in the first picture it appears, and in the second, it does not. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Norway Lights

Uthaug — I was in a window taking photos of the beautiful moon on May 23, 2015, when these “horizontal rays”, were taken.

One of them was white and the other two blue ones showed when I took the photo. In my computer I realized what passed before my eyes. It was a beauty and delight that I enjoyed the event after amplification. Thanks to MUFON CMS

Åfjord — like always, I was traveling with my husband in the car, and I always carry the camera with me, you never know when something is in front of me and I would like to take a picture of it. This was the case this time, far from the car I saw a beautiful clouds, with weird shapes and the light those were extremely nice, so I started take several pictures of different angles. Later on, in the computer I realized that in the edge of the mountains, there were big objects but because of the distance we didn’t appreciate the size of the object of this phenomenon! South Africa Light

On August 29, 2015, I was getting into my car watching the moon and saw it was full.

I did not notice it until I took a picture of the full moon.

Spain Cylinder

Barcelona — My son-in-law was taking afew shots over with a “Samsung Galaxy Note 4” cell phone, on July 7th, 2015. Out of four photos, he took only one of the photos revealed a strangely shaped craft. You can see its roughly cigar-shaped, with a “swallow tail”, and it’s got a very straight dark band around its’ “beltline”. Near to what looks like it could be the front end, a sharp vertical line cuts downward thru that dark belt-line. Reminds me of the “A pillar” on cars. The “rear end” appears to be aerodynamic. It made no discernible noise. It’s obviously not a plane, helicopter, harrier, weather balloon.
What could it be?
1. Bird. Maybe, because of the “swallow tail” back end. Birds may fold their wings back tightly if diving, but not so much when flying horizontal. But even if it’s wings were folded back compactly, it still wouldn’t be shaped just like this, nor have that sharply defined, very straight dark belt-line.
2. Blimp. Better possibility. However, a google search for blimps, “blimps in Spain”, etc, turned up nothing at all that looks like this. Also, none of the other pictures taken just one or two seconds before + after this picture was taken show any blimps in the sky. This object came or materialized and dematerialized very suddenly, and blimps can’t do that.
3. Insect. It doesn’t look like any insect that I’ve ever seen or heard about.
4. Drone, with a fake body mounted. Maybe, but it’s apparent size (at apx 1000 ft away from the camera) is huge, and not in keeping with typical drones. Also, it made no noise, 5. Balloons and kites cannot appear and disappear instantaneously, either.

Note that the light colored “halo” around the object is just typical for this camera. We found the very same bright halo effect also appears around birds, in pictures taken the same day with the same camera.

UK/England Triangle

Rushden — I sat in my garden relaxing and drinking a weak mix of Pimms and Lemonade, on August 8, 2015. At 10:15 pm, I was waiting for the pass of the ISS when a triangle object appeared over my rooftop. It was on a northern heading and turned northwest and after a few seconds, was gone over trees. The three orange lights were not very bright and seemed to fade a little as the object moved away. I felt it was 15-20 meters above ground and moving at 20-30 kph. BERMUDA TRIANGLE: SHIP REAPPEARS 90 YEARS AFTER GOING MISSING

Havana| The Cuban Coast Guard announced this morning, that they had intercepted an unmanned ship heading for the island, which is presumed to be the SS Cotopaxi, a tramp steamer which vanished in December 1925 and has since been connected to the legend of the Bermuda Triangle.

The Cuban authorities spotted the ship for the first time on May 16, near a restricted military zone, west of Havana. They made many unsuccessful attempts to communicate with the crew, and finally mobilized three patrol boats to intercept it.

When they reached it, they were surprised to find that the ship was actually a nearly 100-year old steamer identified as the Cotopaxi, a name famously associated with the legend of the Bermuda Triangle. There was no one on board and the ship seemed to have been abandoned for decades, suggesting that this could actually be the tramp freighter that disappeared in 1925.

An exhaustive search of the ship led to the discovery of the captain’s logbook. It was, indeed, associated with the Clinchfield Navigation Company, the owners of the SS Cotopaxi, but hasn’t brought any clue concerning what happened to the ship over the last 90 years.

Cuban expert, Rodolfo Salvador Cruz, believes that the captain’s logbook is authentic. This document is full of precious information concerning the life of the crew before the ship’s disappearance, but the entries stop suddenly on December 1, 1925.

On 29 November 1925, the SS Cotopaxi departed Charleston, South Carolina, and headed towards Havana, Cuba. The ship had a crew of 32 men, under the command of Captain W. J. Meyer, and was carrying a cargo of 2340 tons of coal. It was reported missing two days later, and was unheard of for almost 90 years.

The Vice President of Council of Ministers, General Abelardo Colomé, announced that the Cuban authorities were going to conduct a thorough investigation to elucidate the mystery of the ship’s disappearance and reappearance.

• “It is very important for us to understand what happened”  says General Colomé. “Such incidents could be really bad for our economy, so  want to make sure that this kind of disappearance doesn’t happen again. The time has come to solve the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle, once and for all.”

The Bermuda Triangle is a loosely defined region covering the area between Miami, Puerto Rico and Bermuda, where dozens of ships and planes have disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

Popular culture has attributed many of the disappearances to paranormal and supernatural phenomena, or to the activity of extraterrestrial beings.  One explanation, even pins the blame on leftover technology from the mythical lost continent of Atlantis.

Despite the popularity of all these strange theories, most scientists don’t even recognize the existence of the Bermuda Triangle, and blame human mistakes and natural phenomena for the disappearances.

The mysterious reappearance of the SS Cotopaxi has, however, already generated a lot of interest in the scientific community and could push some experts to change their mind on the subject.

NASA is developing a “hedgehog” robot to tumble around comets and asteroids

Imagine an army of tumbling, twirling, gyrating robots exploring faraway icy bodies. Do they look anything like this?

That’s NASA’s Hedgehog robot, performing a “tornado” maneuver designed to escape from a deep sinkhole on a comet. The US space agency, together with Stanford and MIT, is developing a swarm of these little buggers to traverse the rocky, icy landscapes on comets and asteroids that normal probes can’t explore easily. Why? Microgravity.

The gravity on these space rocks is a fraction of what it is here on Earth. According to NASA, a person of average weight would weigh as little as a paperclip on a comet. That means that normal space rovers, like Mars Curiosity, would not be able to generate traction on a comet, and would likely end up flipping over if it tried moving:

Enter the Hedgehog, which is essentially just a small, sturdy cube with spikes on each edge. No wheels needed. “Hedgehog is a different kind of robot that would hop and tumble on the surface instead of rolling on wheels,” said Issa Nesnas, head of the Hedgehog team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. “It is shaped like a cube and can operate no matter which side it lands on.”

NASA and Stanford both tested Hedgehog prototypes aboard a C-9 aircraft (which NASA uses to research microgravity), and found that the robots work indeed well in reduced gravity environments. NASA’s prototype weighs about 11 pounds (5 kilograms), but the agency expects it to weigh twice as much once scientific instruments are added to the inside. Both NASA’s and Stanford’s prototypes use flywheels to create the robot’s spinning motion, though the two use slightly different braking mechanisms.

According to the researchers, Hedgehog robots are cheaper to build than normal rovers. The idea is that a mothership would release several of them onto a comet or asteroid at a time, allowing them to “spread out to make discoveries on a world never traversed before.”

While we haven’t seen anything quite like this in either real life or science fiction (unless you count Sonic the Hedgehog), it does slightly resemble the Interstellar robots TARS and CASE, when they go into cartwheel mode (spoilers below):

New Hampshire town celebrates 'The Incident at Exeter'; noted 1965 UFO sighting sparked probe

EXETER, N.H. (AP) — They say a lightning strike started a fire in the Exeter, New Hampshire, town hall that caused the cancellation of a UFO festival the first year it was hosted by the local Kiwanis Club.

That's what they say anyway. (Cue the eerie music and get Steven Spielberg on the line right away.)

Fifty years ago, a frightened 18-year-old high school graduate and future Navy seaman named Norman Muscarello told police he had seen an unidentified flying object. The event that became known as "The Incident at Exeter" sparked an Air Force investigation and became one of the nation's most celebrated and scrutinized sightings.

The Exeter UFO Festival that runs through this weekend brings together a gathering of notable UFO-logists, true believers, skeptics and the merely curious to raise money for kids' charities and talk about just what the heck happened that night.

Bill Smith, president of the Kiwanis Club of the Exeter Area, said the festival was the brainchild of Dean Merchant, a Kiwanian and UFO enthusiast and researcher. The Kiwanis has been sponsoring it for the last six of its seven years.

"He just was fascinated as to just what happened 50 years ago," Smith said. "He was saying, 'Nobody talks about it anymore. Nobody recognizes the significance of the event anymore.'"

Here's the story:

Muscarello, who died in 2003, was hitchhiking home on Sept. 3, 1965, when he saw strange lights in the woods in nearby Kensington. The lights moved toward him. He panicked, dove into a ditch and, when the lights moved back into the woods, bolted for a nearby farmhouse for help. The house was empty so he flagged down a motorist who took him to the Exeter Police Department. An officer went back to the farmhouse with Muscarello and later said he had also seen a flying object that he couldn't explain. Sightings came in from others in the area, too.

The U.S. Air Force said the sightings were either a mirage caused by a temperature inversion or one of five B-47 planes in the area at the time. A definitive answer was never given.

The Exeter festival is still, at its heart, a fundraiser for children's charities supported by Kiwanis. It's not the big affair that draws thousands each July to Roswell, New Mexico, where the 1947 crash of a flying object ignited a still-burning debate over the existence of extraterrestrial life.

But this anniversary year will attract 600 to 700 people who'll buy little green aliens, spaceships, T-shirts, coffee mugs and hot dogs. They'll also hear from UFO researchers including Stanton Friedman, Richard Dolan and Jennifer Stein.

The event is family-friendly and geared for fun. But Smith cautions that there's a line between having fun and poking fun.

"A large percentage of the audience are true believers," he said. "They do take it seriously."

Not everybody does, he said.

"Quite frankly, we'll get people who aren't happy about this and they'll say, 'Do you really believe in this stuff?' "There's still some of that. Not as much as in the past when they'd say, 'Man, you guys are a bunch of whack jobs!"

AREA 51: 'I see aliens and was abducted at top-secret US military base'
