MANITOBA CANADA–HOT SPOT FOR ALIEN CRAFT SIGHTINGS  

Just over 2,000 reports of unidentified flying objects in Manitoba over the past 200 years.  The earliest documented UFO encounter in Manitoba came in 1792 from two explorers in the northern area, who say they saw several bizarre meteors crash into the ice.  A new report suggests UFO sightings in Manitoba are older than the province itself.  Ufology Research, based in Winnipeg, says there have been just over 2,000 reports of unidentified flying objects in Manitoba over the past 200 years.  Chris Rutkowski has been researching the phenomenon for 25 years, compiling an annual Canadian survey of sightings.  He says records from the government, the RCMP and the United States show Manitoba has a long history of sightings.  “It’s not a recent phenomenon,” he said. “It’s not a phenomenon that’s a product of television and movies that are going on right now. These things go back quite a number of years. People have been fascinated with things in the sky and wondering, ‘Are we alone in the universe?”‘ 

The earliest documented encounter came in 1792 from two explorers, David Thompson and Andrew Davy, who were in northern Manitoba where they said they saw several bizarre meteors crash into the ice.  Thompson’s diary details how the two were surprised one night by a brilliant “meteor of globular form” that “appeared” larger than the moon.”  “It struck the river ice, with a sound like a mass of jelly, was dashed into innumerable luminous pieces and instantly expired,” the diary says. “The next morning we went to see what marks this meteor had made on the ice, but could not discover that a single particle was marked.” Rutkowski says other sightings were reported by police, pilots and average people, who saw everything from unusual lights in the sky and flying saucers to silver-suited aliens.  The witness reports, which have common themes and descriptions, suggest “we are being visited,” Rutkowski said.  “That doesn’t mean that aliens are invading Canada in any way, but it simply means there are unusual reports of things in the sky,” he said. “It certainly says that we probably are not alone in the universe and that there probably are some sort of alien civilizations out there somewhere but there is no proof of that.”  Ufology Research’s 2014 Canadian survey detailed more than 1,000 UFO cases reported in Canada.  The latest report on Manitoba sightings found most occurred during the summer months, between 10 p.m. and midnight.

Oudste sterrenkaart ter wereld gevonden in Japanse graftombe

In een oude graftombe in Japan is de oudste sterrenkaart ter wereld aangetroffen. De kaart toont waarschijnlijk de hemel zoals die vanuit China kon worden gezien.

De tombe bevindt zich in de prefectuur Nara en is kleurrijk beschilderd. De grafheuvel, die dateert van de zevende of achtste eeuw na Christus, wordt bewaakt door een zwarte schildpad, een witte tijger, een blauwe draak en een rode feniks.

Het plafond van de tombe bevat een kaart van de avondhemel, bestaande uit 68 sterrenbeelden. De sterren bestaan uit bladgoud. Met vermiljoen zijn drie concentrische cirkels geschilderd die de beweging van hemellichamen aanduiden. Eén van die hemellichamen is onze zon.

Volgens Kazuhiko Miyajima van de Doshisha-universiteit gaat het mogelijk om de oudste astronomische kaart ter wereld. Hoewel er oudere hemelkaarten zijn gevonden in het Westen (De 17.300 jaar oude grottekening in de grotten van Lascaux toont bijvoorbeeld de Pleiaden, Stier, Orion en Aldebaran) missen de meeste herkenbare patronen van astronomische fenomenen.

Twee onderzoekers hebben nu bepaald dat de sterrenkaart de hemel toont zoals die tussen 65 en 540 vanuit China of Noord- en Zuid-Korea kon worden gezien, enkele honderden jaren voordat de tombe daadwerkelijk werd gemaakt.

Buitenaardse wezens op diverse plekken gefotografeerd ( Video) 

Mexico is het land bij uitstek voor alles wat met UFO’s en buitenaardse zaken te maken heeft.

Het is echter niet alleen Mexico waar buitenaardse wezens worden waargenomen, ook in ons land komt dit voor.

Uiteraard moet je voorzichtig zijn met foto’s en/of video’s van buitenaardse wezens want vaak blijkt dit toch nep te zijn.

Misschien is dat ook het geval met onderstaande voorbeelden, alhoewel van beiden wordt gezegd dat ze echt zijn.

Het eerste geval doet zich enkele dagen geleden voor in de Mexicaanse plaats Nuevo Laredo.

De eigenaar van een boerderij hoort een vreemd geluid en besluit naar buiten te gaan om dit te onderzoeken.

Tot zijn grote schrik ziet hij een vreemd wezen en met zijn mobiele telefoon slaagt hij erin een korte filmopname te maken.

Hij ziet een wezen met een roze huid dat zich op het dak van zijn boerderij bevindt. Slank, met lange armen en benen en een klein hoofd.

Toen het wezen doorhad dat het werd gadegeslagen, verdween het. 

De video werd gepubliceerd door een Mexicaans televisiestation, El Mañana. Volgens een eerste analyse schijnen de beelden niet gemanipuleerd te zijn. Maargoed, dat hebben we vaker gehoord.

Waarom ze zo’n afgrijselijke stem het commentaar moeten laten doen, is niet duidelijk.

Het toeval wil dat we een nog een vreemd buitenaards wezen verhaal kregen opgestuurd van een lezer (dank!).

The Men in Black Incident of UFO Investigator Brenda Butler

We can’t be close-minded. We’ve got to ask, “What’s taking place out there?” We’re a boxed-in the community, so it’s time to climb out to see the truth. A British UFO Hunter, Brenda Butler, claimed that “Men in Black” used intimidation, threats, and harassment via phone calls and visits her to stop from pursuing her research in the Rendlesham Forest incident. As stated in the Daily Express, she made the allegations at the conference to celebrate 35 years of the well-known Rendlesham sighting. Without further investigation, people would never know the full details of the Rendlesham Forest incident that happened 30 years ago.

A mysterious object was being reported over the forest situated nearby Woodbridge, Suffolk on December 1980. It is a series of reported strange sighting of unexplained lights and alleged landing of craft on two separate nights, just outside RAF Woodbridge. USAF personnel Lieutenant Colonel Charles I. Halt claimed to spot the strange object. It was a saucer-like craft with large-headed, but small beings. It appeared like they are being suspended from the aircraft’s bottom. The creatures were busy and were unaware of the men watching their deeds. The incident is the most prominent extraterrestrial events to have occurred in Britain. According to Ms. Butler, there was something in the forest that is unexplainable. She thought that the strange experience came from another dimension.

BBC Suffolk will mark its 30th anniversary, and it will be a two-hour broadcasting live on Friday, 17 December, 7-9pm. Ms. Butler is the head of discussions about the Rendlesham incident. The core of discussions is the reports made by Halt.

According to Ms. Butler, she visited the forest at once a week for the last thirty years and has made regular contact with extraterrestrials. She claimed seeing different beings in the woods, as in all stuff – brown monks, ghosts, shadow man, black cat that float around and strange disks as well as crafts hovering in the sky.

Britain finds the answer to top-secret document about UFO

UK Ministry of Defense is on the point of announcing secret files including 18 documents about unidentified flying objects, which is seen as evidence that aliens came to this country about 30 years ago.

According to RT, the British government intended to publish the document which is often called "British X-files" at the end of 2013 but they had to postpone because "the requirements of the process”. In parliament meeting on March, 2015, Guy Black parliamentarian, Duke of Brentwood, suggested that the government announce the latest documentary about the unidentified flying objects (UFO). Ministry of Defense decides to publish and store the records at National Archives Institute before March, 2016.

"While working for UFO research project, I’m sorry to say that there is not any crippled spacecraft which was concealed in the aircraft depot of the Royal Air Force as false rumors. However, in the secret files, we discovered some interesting cases which cannot be explained, "Nick Pole, UFO researchers who was appointed to UFO research department by Ministry of Defense in 1991, said.

UFO researchers confirm that these documents will clarify two cases that strange gleam of light appeared in Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk at different times in September, 1980. Meanwhile, US soldiers patrol stationing in Suffolk detected a triangular metal object emitting strange light which was about 2 m in height, 2-3 m in width.

In the document submitted to British Ministry of Defense in early1981, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt, the commander of US forces stationing in Suffolk said: "The strange object lighted the whole of the forest. It had a flashing red light on top with a range of blue light at the bottom. The object was either hovering or standing. When the patrols approached, it wriggled through the woods and disappeared. At that time, domestic animals on a farm near the forest went crazy and this strange object was discovered at the back door of the farm about one hour later”.

NASA just found something big hiding out behind Pluto

NASA and the team behind its New Horizons spacecraft announced today that Pluto — the dwarf planet — has a giant tail.

It's not a physical tail like a dog's, of course, but rather a frigid cloud of ionized gases trailing an estimated 48,000 to 68,000 miles behind Pluto, according to a NASA press release.

This giant tail is actually part of Pluto's atmosphere. Except that the bits of atmosphere are being stripped away by solar wind, a torrent of electrically charged particles that constantly pours out of the sun in all directions.

"We see the atmosphere way far out," Randy Gladstone, a New Horizons coinvestigator at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, said during a NASA press conference on Friday. "We see it from the ground out to 1,000 miles above the surface."

Because Pluto is such a tiny planet — it's a fraction of a percent as massive as the Earth — its atmosphere escapes directly into space, Gladstone said.

Gladstone and others discovered the tail after examining data from the Solar Wind Around Pluto (SWAP) instrument on the New Horizons spacecraft. The device found an anomaly in the solar wind around the dwarf planet: A depression composed of nitrogen ions. This depression is the tail, and it extends an unknown length behind the planet.

"We have actually flown through this [tail]," Fran Bagenal, a New Horizons coinvestigator from the University of Colorado at Boulder, said during the press conference.

Ionized gas forms when a bunch of energy pummels atmospheric atoms and molecules. This bombardment pops electrons off the atmospheric gas particles, allowing their electrons to freely circulate. The end result is plasma: A fourth state of matter after solids, liquids, and gases.

As far as we know, plasma is the most common state of matter in the universe. There's simply a lot of energy pouring out of stars, and a lot of gas in space to form plasma. So while it might seem surprising, plasma tails like Pluto's aren't new. They even exist behind other planets in the solar system, including Venus and Mars.

The team still hasn't determined the precise shape of Pluto's newly discovered tail. They also don't know exactly how the was formed.

So NASA is anxiously waiting for New Horizons to beam back more data. By August the team hopes to calculate how fast Pluto is losing its atmosphere to space — and, likewise, how quickly the icy world is shrinking.

New Horizons Ruimteorganisatie NASA heeft een nieuw beeld vrijgegeven, dat ruimtetuig New Horizons afgelopen dinsdag van dwergplaneet Pluto heeft gemaakt. Op het beeld is een ijsvlakte te zien, die zich op het groot hartvormig vlak op de planeet bevindt.

Op de vlakte zijn onregelmatige, veelhoekige segmenten te zien, die afmetingen van tientallen kilometers hebben. De segmenten zijn omringd door smalle troggen, waarvan sommigen heuvels vertonen.

De vlakte, die de naam Sputnik Planum kreeg, maakt deel uit van het grotere, hartvormige vlak op Pluto, dat 'Tombaugh Regio' werd gedoopt naar de ontdekker van de dwergplaneet.

Ten zuiden van de ijsvlaktes bevindt zich een bergketen, die de naam Norgay Montes kreeg. De keten is vernoemd naar Tenzing Norgay, de scherpa die de Mount Everest met Edmund Hillary beklom.

Astronomen hebben een uniek systeem ontdekt van twee sterren waarbij de ene de andere "opslokt". De ontdekking is veelbelovend voor een beter begrip van het uitdoven van sterren. "Het is de eerste keer dat we een witte, supercompacte dwergster zien die gas steelt van een andere ster door ze op te slokken", zegt de Universiteit van Cambridge, die de studie leidt.

I was in my car at work waiting for my relief to arrive so that I could leave. My shift is over at midnight. The sky was completely covered in clouds but I noticed a small spiral of clouds to left.

Nothing major, it was more of a swirl than spiral. I thought, maybe HAARP? I took my camera out, put it on the night setting, got out of my car and took pictures.

I checked the preview to make sure the camera captured it because it was so dark and there’s barely any lights in the area. I started looking around the sky and was shocked to see a huge dark shape in the clouds, high above my car.

The spiral was to the left of my car and the shape was pointing in that direction and directly above me.

It was not moving at all. There was absolutely no sound or lights. I don’t know how low the clouds were but the object seemed huge.

I don’t know anything about cloud altitude so it’s hard to make an accurate guess of how high or big it was. I want to say the width appeared to be as wide as maybe 5 passenger jets side by side.

I observed it for about 6 minutes until it seemed to slowly disappear and clouds filled in the area. Something was there, that I know. I did nothing else to the images. Mufon case 68218.

Archaeologists Find 12,000-Year-Old Pictograph at Gobeklitepe (Video)

Excavations being conducted at the ancient city of Göbeklitepe in Turkey have uncovered an ancient pictograph on an obelisk which researchers say could be the earliest known pictograph ever discovered.

A pictograph is an image that conveys meaning through its resemblance to a physical object. Such images are most commonly found in pictographic writing, such as hieroglyphics or other characters used by ancient Sumerian and Chinese civilizations. Some non-literate cultures in parts of Africa, South America and Oceania still use them.

“The scene on the obelisk unearthed in Göbeklitepe could be construed as the first pictograph because it depicts an event thematically” explained Director of the Şanlıurfa Museum, Müslüm Ercan, to the Hurriyet Daily News. Ercan is leading the excavation at Göbeklitepe. “It depicts a human head in the wing of a vulture and a headless human body under the stela. There are various figures like cranes and scorpions around this figure. This is the portrayal of a moment; it could be the first example of pictograph. They are not random figures. We see this type of thing portrayal on the walls in 6,000-5,000 B.C. in Çatalhöyük [in modern-day western Turkey].”

The artifacts discovered in the ancient city have provided information about ancient burial traditions in the area in which bodies were left in the open for raptors such as vultures to consume. According to Mr Ercan, this enabled the soul of the deceased to be carried into the sky. It was called “burial in the sky” and was depicted on the obelisks in Göbeklitepe. Such rituals were conducted in and around the city around 12,000 years ago.
Many of the items discovered on the site have not been seen before anywhere else in the world and thus are the first of their kind to be discovered.

Göbeklitepe is situated on the top of a hill about 15 kilometres away from Sanliurfa in South-eastern Turkey. The city can be dated back to 10,000 BC and consists of a series of circular and oval shaped structures that were first excavated by Professor Klaus Schmidt supported by the German Archaeological Institute. Schmidt travelled to the site having heard about it from accounts of other previous visits by anthropologists from the University of Chicago and Istanbul University in the 1960’s. Both institutions ignored the site, believing it to be nothing more than a medieval graveyard.

Artifacts found on the site indicate that the city was intended for ritual use only and not as a domain for human occupation. Each of the 20 structures consists of a ring of walls surrounding two T-shaped monumental pillars between 3 metres (9 feet) and 6 metres high (19 feet) and weighing between 40 and 60 tons.

Archaeologists believe these pillars are stylised representations of human beings because of the human appendages carved into the stone. These images are accompanied by those of animals including foxes, snakes, wild boars, cranes and ducks.  

The archaeologists believe Göbeklitepe was used as a religious centre. Geo-radar work has revealed evidence of 23 temple structures in the area. Two of the obelisks in the city were constructed in the form of a letter T and are positioned opposite each other within a circle of smaller, round obelisks.

Ercan said that the museum at Şanlıurfa contains a small sculpture of a pig that was discovered in front of the central stelas in the ‘C’ temple at Göbeklitepe. Such statues may have depicted sacred beings.

Work on the basic infrastructure of a roof to cover the site and help preserve its structures and artefacts has just been completed, ready for the construction of the roof itself. This is an EU project and the archaeologists aim to complete it in eight months’ time.

TWO HIKERS SPOT A UFO ALIEN CRAFT IN SCOTLAND  AUGUST 1990 ……….. SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS  SCOTLAND  

Alien Cover Up is ready to showcase the very moment that many officials have refused to talk about.  The Channel 5 show tells how according to the UK UFO files, in August 1990 two hikers were walking in the Scottish Highlands, close to Calvine, north of Pitlochry when suddenly they saw something incredible.  A diamond shaped aircraft was hovering over the landscape before speeding off into the distance. The two hikers took pictures of the craft and immediately contacted journalists from the Scottish Daily Record Newspaper.

After viewing their photos, the journalists chose to share both pictures and negatives with the Ministry of Defence.  The UK UFO Desk files say that the images were then analysed by the best team in the business. At the time Nick Pope was a junior member of the UFO team. He explains the response of the MOD’s top UFO expert in Conspiracy: Alien Cover Up.  See a photo of the reconstruction above. 

“The Defence Intelligence staff sent these images to JARIC that’s the Joint Air Reconnaissance and Intelligence Centre. Now this is the UK’s military centre of expertise when it comes to imagery analysis. These Intelligence personnel come to the conclusion that these photographs are real – it’s a solid craft and no one has the faintest idea what it is.”

ISS ruimtestation ontruimd vanwege UFO's ( Video )

Wanneer mensen niet de waarheid vertellen dan ontstaan soms merkwaardige situaties.

Zoals het bericht dat het ruimtestation ISS was geëvacueerd vanwege brokstukken van een oude Russische satelliet die met een snelheid van 8 meter per seconde tegen het ruimtestation dreigden te botsen.


De Russische astronauten Mikhail Kornienko en Gennady Padalka sprongen op 16 juli samen met de Amerikaanse astronaut Scott Kelly in de Soyuz ontsnappingscapsule die aan het ISS vastgemaakt zit.

Ze bleven daar enige tijd zitten totdat NASA verklaarde dat het weer veilig was omdat de rommel was gepasseerd. Zoals zij dat uitdrukten: “It was a close pass”.

En dat was het zeker, alleen was het geen rommel afkomstig van een oude Russische ruimtesatelliet, maar een paar UFO’s.

De objecten werden voor het eerst opgemerkt door Youtubegebruiker Streetcap1, de man die regelmatig merkwaardige dingen ontdekt.

Eerst kwam de gedachte bij hem op dat hij hier te maken had met een paar jets, maar gezien de snelheid waarmee deze objecten vlogen was dat uitgesloten. 

De opnames zijn gemaakt door NASA en laten twee UFO’s zien die zich onder het ruimtestation bevinden. Dat niet alleen, ze bewegen sneller dan het ISS en halen het in.

Als je dan bedenkt dat het ISS per dag 15,7 keer om de aarde cirkelt dan geeft dat een goed beeld van de snelheid van die UFO’s.

Dit voorval vond plaats op dezelfde dag dat het ruimtestation moest worden geëvacueerd vanwege “het puin van de Russische satelliet” en veel mensen, waaronder ufoloog Scott Waring, geloven het verhaal van NASA niet.

Hieronder zie je een 16 minuten durende video waarbij het duidelijk is dat NASA de UFO’s volgt. Van tijd tot tijd zie je ook de camera te ver vooruit schieten en duurt het even voordat de UFO’s weer in beeld zijn.

Uiteindelijk zijn de UFO’s het ruimtestation gewoon gepasseerd, maar om het zekere voor het onzekere te nemen, werden de astronauten even tijdelijk in de Soyuz capsule geparkeerd.

NASA heeft tot nu al kapitalen uitgegeven voor de zoektocht naar Planet X.

Dat ze daarover muisstil zijn, wil niet zeggen dat ze deze onbekende planeet zijn vergeten.

Wanneer we spreken over Planet X dan spreken wij eveneens over de planeet Nibiru. Gemakshalve gaan we er dan ook meestal vanuit dat wanneer we het hebben over Planet X we ook de planeet Nibiru bedoelen zoals die wordt omschreven door Zechariah Sitchin en die iedere 3600 jaar langskomt.

Ver voordat Sitchin ten tonele verscheen, was er de Amerikaanse astronoom Percival Lowell die begin vorige eeuw driftig op zoek ging naar wat hij destijds noemde Planet X.

Lowell was ervan overtuigd dat de verstoringen die plaatsvonden bij planeten aan de buitenste rand van ons zonnestelsel werden veroorzaakt door een onbekende planeet. Ook na zijn dood in 1916 ging men nog een tijd door met zoeken naar Planet X, maar toen Clyde Tombaugh in 1930 de dwergplaneet Pluto ontdekte, ging men ervan uit dat dit was wat Lowell bedoelde. Uiteraard was dit niet het geval omdat Pluto veel te klein is om verstoringen te kunnen veroorzaken.

Rond eind jaren zeventig kwam de astronomische gemeenschap tot diezelfde conclusie en begon de zoektocht naar Planet X opnieuw.

Iemand die daar een prominente rol in speelde destijds was Dr. Harrington van het US Naval Observatory, waar wij uitgebreid over hebben geschreven.

In oktober 1988 schreef hij een document getiteld The Location of Planet X, waarin uitgebreid wordt ingegaan op de mogelijke positie van Planet X. Op dat moment heeft Harrington nog geen keihard bewijs van het bestaan, maar hij concludeert dat eigenlijk de enige manier om planeten zo te verstoren zoals dat gebeurde met Uranus en Neptunus, het bestaan van een onbekende (grote) planeet is.

Dan gaan de luiken wat verdere informatie betreft bij NASA na de jaren negentig volledig naar beneden en zijn we aangewezen op andere bronnen voor informatie.

Youtube gebruiker BPEarthwatch heeft een theorie aangaande de positie van de onbekende Planet X.

Volgens hem heeft NASA een meer dan gewone belangstelling voor een ster met een planeet die daar omheen cirkelt.

De ster heet Beta Pictoris en bevindt zich volgens de officiële berichten op een afstand van ongeveer 64 lichtjaar. Echter, volgens BPEarthwatch spreekt NASA zoals gewoonlijk niet de waarheid en bevind deze ster zich veel dichterbij. Volgens hem is de afstand tot de aarde de afgelopen 15 jaar met 30 procent afgenomen.

Om deze ster cirkelt een planeet die de naam Pictoris B heeft gekregen en die er als volgt uitziet.

Het lijkt alsof we hier een planeet met vleugels zien zoals eerder werd omschreven in de oudheid:

“Well, Nibiru is also known as “the Ferry” or the “Planet of the crossing” or the Sumerian “Winged planet” there is also a symbol from ancient Sumeria of the winged planet.

Wanneer je de grootte van de Pictoris B planeet vergelijkt met de aarde dan schrik je toch wel even.

Hier volgen nog een aantal afbeeldingen waarop duidelijk de vleugelstructuur rond deze planeet is te zien.

De ster met bijbehorende planeet bevindt zich in het sterrenbeeld Pictor of Schilder op zijn Nederlands. Dit sterrenbeeld is vanuit ons land niet zichtbaar, maar alleen vanaf het zuidelijk halfrond.

War Alert: Soldiers Confronted By UFOs

It is a known fact that the public rarely hears interactions between unexplained aircraft and military personnel, especially during wartime in Vietnam. As time goes on, strange stories were stuck behind red tape during the war, but are beginning to find their way outside their bureaucratic confinements. The Mutual UFO Network is the largest Unidentified Flying Object investigation group in the world. The group is created to share some light on strange stories. In doing so, they collaborated with the History Channel to recreate wartime stories in Hangar 1: The UFO Files.

In Vietnam 1968, American patrol boat allegedly reported two glowing, circular aircraft that were constantly following them. Their reports were being corroborated by a second patrol boat stating that they witness alien spacecraft over the first boat along with lights followed by an explosion, which destroyed the vessel. During his Vietnam times, Capt. George Filer, a previous Air Force intelligence officer, had top clearance. Due to the more advanced technology, he stated that the U.S. was interested in the UFOs. As a result, aircrafts would fly alongside the U.S planes. Take of speeds and do barrel rolls. The speed is three times that of a regular air force.

He also mentioned that some stories came to him, but it was unofficial. He further added that a person who focuses too much on extraterrestrial spacecraft will mess his or her career. Alien vessel stories doing battle in the skies exist throughout history, according to Hans Glaser, the artist who created a woodcut of a battle in Nuremberg, Germany 1561. Printed an April issue, the Nuremberg Gazette describes the aerial battle between massive cylindrical shapes which emerged red, black, blue-white and orange spheres that darted. The Hangar 1 episodes will air over a 12-week period, highlighting military personnel who are willing to share their stories.

The presence of strange balls of light hovering over a valley in central Norway has baffled scientists for years.

Known as the Hessdalen Phenomenon, the flashing orbs can be as large as cars and have even attracted attention from ufologists.

But now scientists think the unusual lights could be formed by a natural ‘battery’ buried deep underground, created by metallic minerals reacting with a sulphurous river running through it.

If the theory is proven  correct, it could open up a new way of storing energy.

Some of the lights drift gently through the sky for up to two hours, while others flash white or blue and streak through the valley, disappearing in seconds, New Scientist reported.

A computer engineer called Erling Strand from Ostfold University in Norway, has been looking for the physics behind the natural phenomenon since 1982, when frequent light shows captured the attention of the press and scientists alike.

HOW DOES THE 'BATTERY' WORK?

He set up Project Hessdalen in a bid to unite experts trying to unravel the mystery of how the mysterious orbs are formed, and was able to quickly rule out theories that the lights came from planes, vehicles or buildings.

The researchers noticed a small fluctuation in the areas’ magnetic field before the formation of the lights, but when they measured radioactivity and seismic activity – both of which could cause such a phenomenon – there was nothing unusual at the site 248miles (400km) north of Oslo.

An international team of experts then measured the size, shape and speed of the orbs using radar and spectral analysis to examine the elements that make up the light.

They revealed that the lights make no sound, appear to be cool and do not leave any scorch marks on the ground, unlike ball lightning. They do however sterilise an area upon contact, killing the soil microbes.

Jader Monari of the Institute of Radio Astronomy in Medicina, Italy, has studied the Hessdalen site since 1996 and found that rocks in the valley are rich in zinc and iron on one side of the river running through it, and rich in copper on the other side.

‘If there is sulphur in the water in the middle, it makes a perfect battery’ he said.

Together with a colleague from the University of Bologna, the scientists used rock samples to create a miniature valley and dunked them in river sediment. They found that electricity flowed between the two rocks and that this could light a lamp.

Dr Monari believes that bubbles of ionised gas are created when sulphurous fumes from the River Hesja react with the humid air of the valley. The geology also forms electromagnetic field lines in the valley, which could explain why the orbs of light move around.

‘This electrical field creates a path that could be the ‘main road’ of the lights inside the valley,’ Dr Monari told Caroline Williams.

Bjorn Gitle Hauge, an electrical engineer at Ostfold University, thinks that the energy needed to make the clouds glow could come from the charge building up.

There are many other competing theories as to how the light may be formed, although the battery theory seems to be the most probable based upon current evidence.

Some experts think some sort of plasma causes the light as when a gas ionises it forms a cloud of ions and electrons – plasma – that produce light. Plasmas can be cool to touch and can also kill microbes, but they require incredibly high temperatures and a huge supply of energy to be produced.

Others believe the lights are a type of ball lightning because similar balls of light spotted and analysed in China showed they were formed of silicon, iron and calcium – which are present in the Hessdalen lights, along with the addition of an element called scandium.

But the Hessdalen lights do not appear when there is lightning, leading Dr Hauge to suggest another idea.

He proposed that the valley’s shape, climate and geology generate a massive electric charge and that static electricity on the mountains were whipped up by strong winds.

Other experts believe the lights are powered by radioactivity and the decay of radon in the atmosphere. They think the lights are made from ‘dusty plasma’ containing ionised dust particles.

They will search for the presence of radon in the valley to test their idea that bubbles of the gas could erupt from the ground, pick up dust and enter the air as a glowing orb.

Whatever the reason for the lights’ formation, the answer could lead to a new way of storing energy.

‘If we have some kind of installation that we could pick up charged particles and lock them inside, then you can store energy,’ Dr Hauge said.
