The search for extraterrestrials: How to tell the world you've discovered an alien civilisation

After countless fictional scenarios of humans making contact with alien civilisations, you'd think we'd be prepared for actually discovering one. But finding intelligent life beyond the Earth is clearly likely to be one of the most shattering moments in the history of our species.

So if you've just discovered an alien civilisation, how should you go about breaking the news? This is a momentous task, and I have been involved in developing some guidelines for the scientists who are involved in searching for extraterrestrial life. The research is due to be published in the journal Acta Astronautica.

With the millions of dollars currently being invested in initiatives such the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), some would argue it is only a matter of time before we do come across intelligent life. I'm personally not convinced, but pessimism isn't enough to abandon a search. The scientific method requires us to test our hypotheses with observation and experiment – regardless of our initial prejudices.

If we ever do find signs of intelligent life, I don't expect it to be a message from an alien civilisation or a landing party. It will probably be something a little more prosaic, such as signs of artificial pollution in the atmosphere of an exoplanet. It may even take the form of enormous structures built in space to collect energy and provide habitats.

I showed in some work a few years ago that we would be able to see such megastructures in exoplanet transit data, such as that gathered by the Kepler Space Telescope. True enough, Kepler did see weird objects such as Tabby's Star, KIC 8426582, with features similar to those predicted would come from artificial structures. But like most astronomers, I'm still a sceptic – a swarm of comets around Tabby's Star producing incredible changes in brightness is still the more sensible interpretation.

What's really encouraging about this, though, is that it shows SETI can be done "on the cheap", taking advantage of publicly available astronomical data to search for aliens. For a pessimist like me, this seems like a much more appropriate strategy.

The flurry of internet activity surrounding Tabby's star – blogs, tweets, news stories and theKickstarter campaign to encourage the public to support further observations – demonstrate how different the world has become since SETI began around 60 years ago.

Super-connected world

If evidence of extraterrestrial life ever came to us from the stars, what should the discoverers do next? This is something astrobiologists have pondered for decades. In 1989, a committee of SETI scientists even drew up a set of post-detection protocols to guide scientists through the steps after discovery. These steps include getting your colleagues to verify the discovery, and notifying "relevant national authorities" (precisely who this means is unclear to me), followed by the scientific community and then the public via a press release.

However, this set of guidelines was written before the age of the internet. Back then, we got our news via the paper or the TV screen. Even 24-hour news was in its infancy. Nowadays, the news world is a fragmented sphere of articles placed on our devices and in our feeds via a variety of social media tools, shared by our friends and family. Data flows extremely rapidly, and easily gets amplified and distorted.

That is why my colleague Alexander Scholz and I decided to take another look at the issue, asking how the SETI post-detection protocols should change to reflect our super-connected world. We quickly realised that scientists need guidance before starting the experiment, let alone after making a detection. It is now common practice for new scientific projects to set up a blog about their work, and this will be essential for SETI. The blog should include a clear description of what a certain project will do, and what the criteria are for a successful detection, a false positive and no detection. This would help journalists and the public alike to avoid misinterpreting the results.

The individuals involved need to be credible communicators of their work, so maintaining good digital presence in the early stages is very helpful. We also recommend they update their security settings to protect against nefarious individuals broadcasting their personal information – which is sadly a real risk these days.

If a team is lucky enough to make even an unconfirmed, tentative detection, they must be sure to have nothing to hide. Leaks are unavoidable, and alarmingly rapid. Nobody wants an "aliens found" story that turns out to be false. The best way to do this is to publish data immediately. If it's very clear that the detection is unconfirmed, and natural or man-made causes can't be ruled out, then there is no room for conspiracy theorists to wail about the scientists' collusion with the men in black(an accusation flung at me more than once). It also gives other scientists the chance to check the work, and verify the detection.

Of course, we've all seen some of the comments on YouTube or other media sites – there are numpties everywhere, and there is seemingly no stopping good scientific discussion being twisted into inexplicable diatribes and vile hate speech. Therefore, the most important piece of advice for scientists is to be involved in the conversation.

If a publicised detection turns out to be false, the team should immediately make a public statement making it clear that no aliens have been discovered and why. They should even publish a paper retracting it if they have to.

But whoever discovers intelligent life should also prepare for it to swallow up the rest of their life – there isn't going to be time for much else. Their new job will instead be to help humanity come to terms with its new identity, as just one of multiple intelligent civilisations in the universe.

The US President is affected by the same revelation promises made by Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton during her campaign. In relation to this, executive director Stephen Bassett of the US-based Paradigm Research Group believes that there might be a huge announcement in the days to come, adding that David Cameron will also follow suit. Bassett has been trying to persuade the White House to give the details that have been kept for 20 years. The 69-year-old Bassett believes that this is the greatest news story ever been broken, and that he thinks that Obama's revelation will be a Nobel Prize worthy.

Obama's possible revelation would happen just months following Clinton's statement in a US talk show saying that  she was eager on the transparency of information about UFOs and ET, Express reported.

Meanwhile, Democratic presidential candidate Clinton spoke in Jimmy Kimmer Live as is reportedly leading the race against Berni Sanders for party nomination for the upcoming election in November. Just like her husband Bill, who also guested on the show in 2014 and was also asked if he has ever been into UFOs or in Area 51, which is a top secret air base rumored to back engineer an alien craft. Bill answered "sort of" and said he did not see dead aliens.

Hilary Clinton said that there is already a new name for UFO, which is unexplained aerial phenomena. She stated that she would want everyone to see the  files and make every information public, saying that if there is nothing in the file, then people should be made aware. But she added that if there is something found there, it should be shared with the public unless it is going to be a national security risk, according to 12 News.

NASA Claim “Dozens” Of Advanced Civilisations Existed Before Us

A new NASA study reveals that dozens of ancient advanced civilisations much like ours once existed on Earth, but they all came to an abrupt end. 

The study suggests that humanity as we know it could come to an end in the next few decades based on the patterns observed with these previous civilisations.

If we look back in history, 3000 – 5000 years, we will find a historical record that clearly shows us how advanced and complex civilizations were just as susceptible to collapse as we are today. This ongoing pattern has led researchers to question the future existence of society and civilization as we know.

If we were to look back further back in time, over 10,000 years, we would encounter evidence of advanced civilizations that possibly predate the Pre-Inca, Olmec, and Ancient Egyptian civilization, not to mention other advanced ancient civilizations in ancient Mesopotamia.

It is difficult to overlook the repeating patterns identified by scholars in most of these civilizations and the NASA funded study is clear evidence of the path ancient civilizations on EArth have taken for thousands of years. This is considered by many people as a sign that clearly states that ancient civilizations have reset a number of times.

These factors have kept on repeating themselves and have been the culprit for ancient civilizations before us.  In the report, applied mathematician Safa Motesharri and his “Human and Nature Dynamical” model claims that “the process of rise-and-collapse is actually a recurrent cycle found throughout history.”

“The fall of the Roman Empire, and the equally (if not more) advanced Han, Mauryan, and Gupta Empires, as well as so many advanced Mesopotamian Empires, are all testimony to the fact that advanced, sophisticated, complex, and creative civilizations can be both fragile and impermanent.”

The study came to the conclusion that there are two key social features that contributed to the collapse of every single advanced civilization from the past: “the stretching of resources due to the strain placed on the ecological carrying capacity”; and “the economic stratification of society into Elites [rich] and Masses (or “Commoners”) [poor]” These social phenomena have played “a central role in the character or in the process of the collapse,” in all such cases over “the last five thousand years.”

Even though our civilizations is at a very advanced technological stage, this does not necessarily mean that we are saved from imminent chaos. In the study we find that “Technological change can raise the efficiency of resource use, but it also tends to raise both per capita resource consumption and the scale of resource extraction, so that, absent policy effects, the increases in consumption often compensate for the increased efficiency of resource use.”

One of the best examples of advanced ancient civilizations disappearing can be found in Mesoamerica.

If we take a look at the ancient Maya who were an extremely advanced ancient civilization we find that several factors played a crucial role for this once great empire to crumble eventually. While most researchers would agree that Deforestation, Famine and Drought where some of the key components in the failure of the ancient Maya, we find a similar pattern in other civilizations, not only I the Americas, but around the globe.

Motesharrei and his colleagues conclude that under conditions “closely reflecting the reality of the world today… we find that collapse is difficult to avoid.” In the first of these scenarios, civilization:

“…. appears to be on a sustainable path for quite a long time, but even using an optimal depletion rate and starting with a very small number of Elites, the Elites eventually consume too much, resulting in a famine among Commoners that eventually causes the collapse of society. It is important to note that this Type-L collapse is due to an inequality-induced famine that causes a loss of workers, rather than a collapse of Nature.”

Did the Red Baron really shoot down a flying saucer over the battlefields of World War I - and did an ‘Angel’ really save the lives of British troops?

Bizarrely, a team of British intelligence officers were assigned to investigate weird sightings in the skies in World War I - becoming the precursor of UFO investigators both real and fictional.

Most of us think of UFOs and mysterious sightings in the sky as a modern phenomenon - but ‘phantom airships’ became a huge panic in the early years of the Twentieth century, and regularly featured in newspapers.

By the time of World War I, a more scientific approach was needed.

A predecessor to MI5 - Military Observation Department Five (MO5), under the control of Lieutenant Colonel Kell - was assigned the task of classifying sightings in the air.

Amid panic about enemy airships, it was a military necessity to weed out ‘phantom airships’ from real aircraft sightings.

Nigel Watson, author of UFOs of the First World War says, ‘It can be regarded as the first ever official guide to studying UFO reports long before the CIA or any other organisation got with the subject when ‘flying saucer’ sightings were all the rage after WWII.

‘During WW! there were numerous reports of mysterious lights and objects moving about in the skies. These were studied by the Assistant Director of Military Aeronautics, a post held by Lieutenant Colonel W.S. Brancker; the department of Military Training; and by the Brancker and Kell can be regarded as the first Mulder and Scully who studied the flow of UFO-type reports that flowed into their offices.’

The reports sent to Brancker and Kell sound eerily like today’s UFO sightings - and came amid widespread panic not only about enemy airships but also more mysterious sightings.

A 1914 telegram from the Chief Constable of Lancashire said, ‘Large red light seen at 8.45pm today passing over Runcorn Bridge Arches. Immediately afterwards, an explosion was heard in Widnes and Runcorn.

The guidelines set out by the war office helped officers of MO5 categorise sightings as of natural origin - or as something more mysterious.

Various legends about extraterrestrials have circulated about World War I - of which the most astonishing (and implausible) is that German fighter ace the Red Baron shot down a UFO.

Fellow pilots claimed, after the war, that Baron Manfred von Richtofen shot down a flying saucer type craft - from which two inhabitants fled.

Fellow German pilot Peter Waitzrick said that the fighters saw an aircraft like an upside down saucer, ‘We were terrified because we’d never seen anything like it before. The Baron immediately opened fire and the thing went down like a rock, shearing off tree limbs as it crashed into the woods.

‘There’s no doubt in my mind that the Baron shot down some kind of spacecraft from another planet and those little guys who ran off into the woods were space aliens of some kind.

The story is highly dubious, however - given that Waitzrick didn’t share his story until 80 years after the event, and chose to do so in the U.S. tabloid Weekly World News.

UFO fans claim that aliens may have ‘abducted’ people from the battlefields of World War I - with a claim of hundreds of men ‘vanishing’ into a cloud during the Gallipoli campaign.

Witnesses claimed to have seen British soldiers marching towards Hill 60 at Sulva Bay in Turkey on August 21, 1915 - before being snatched up by a ‘solid-looking’ cloud.

A statement from a supposed eye-witness published in 1965, said, ‘When they arrived at this cloud they marched straight into it with no hesitation, but no one ever came out to fight. About an hour later this cloud very unobtrusively lifted off the ground until it joined other similar clouds, then they all moved away northwards.’

But it seems likely that this is a hoax. Documents released after the Armistice suggest that 180 bodies found behind enemy lines are those of the ‘missing soldiers’ - and the story of the cloud is a myth.

An ‘Angel’ which many British soldiers credited with saving their lives in one of the first, brutal battles of World War I has been seized on by UFO fans as evidence of extraterrestrials…

Many soldiers credited the strange apparitions with saving their lives - and the story became a staple of parish magazines.

The battle had been one of the first in which the British faced the Germans - and despite retreating, only 1,600 lives were lost.

Decades later, debate rages still - some attributing the ‘Angel’ to a short story from the Evening Standard, others to British intelligence.

The popular author, Arthur Machen claimed that this legend was created by his fictional ‘The Bowmen’ story published in The Evening News, 29 September 1914.

In it, British soldiers call on St George for aid, and are helped by ghostly bowmen from the Battle of Agincourt. One fact that lends weight to this theory is that few reports of the incident exist before Machen’s story.

Nigel Watson, author of UFOs of World War 1 says, ‘Even today the legend is swathed in controversy. Theories about it range from it being a myth based on Machen’s story, the product of hallucinations due to stress and exhaustion, real angelic visitations, ghosts, swamp gas, airships or alien UFOs projecting or shaping themselves to the expectations of the witnesses.’

Are Superintelligent Robots Secretly Ruling the Universe?

The uncertainty of us being alone in the Universe grows thiner as more and more candidates for sustaining life are continuously being discovered by NASA’s Kepler Telescope.

Many scientists and phylosophers believe that the life form we would encounter first or most, would probably be artificial intelligence with a level of complexity beyond our comprehension, unlike the traditional AI we profetise to live with.

To extend our point of view and to be more susceptible to knowledge, we should take into consideration through which means an advanced alien intelligence would communicate to us. Would it involve cognition, language or even telepathy?

Taking into consideration the multitude of possibilities regarding an encounter with an alien life form, astrobiologists need to start thinking about various modes of cognition.

In the evolutionary process of a supposed extraterrestrial intelligence is involved a “short window observation”, a notion that by the time any civilization learns to transmit radio signal, they are at the verge of another radical upgrade, concerning their own biology, having the human species as an example with the dual concept of singularity that can bring salvation but in the same time can lead to self-destruction.

As a more practical example, we quote Seth Shostak “As soon as a civilization invents radio, they’re within fifty years of computers, then probably, only another fifty to a hundred years from inventing AI. At that point, soft, squishy brains become an outdated model.”

When asked “How do you see the alien life forms throughout the cosmos?”, one would immediately think of the scenarios the Hollywood has given to the public: little, ugly green humanoids or vicious predators built like an invincible war machine, prepared to withstand the most extreme atmosphere on any planet they wish to conquer.

Consider the way we began to explore our galaxy: with programmed robots that can endure any conditions but do not resemble and do not reflect our essence in any way, whatsoever: no free will, no conscience, no biological structure and so on. Hypothetically, if the entire human race would wipe out and somehow would evolve identically to this point, we would find an extraterrestrial intelligence on the Moon, on Mars and wherever we left a mark.

So, whatever alien races there may be in our galaxy or in the others, they would start exploring the Universe in a similar manner, for reasons starting from the safety of the kin, to the point of morality if there is such a concept for those extraterrestrial civilisations.

It seems like most of us are programmed to attribute humanoid features to any extraterrestrial life form, from the psychological to the biological point of view. Our level of reality comprehension limits the concept of absolute evolution to the point of singularity, where the flaws of our organic structure are improved to perfection by uploading our conscience into an artificial intelligence with synthetic body, thus eliminating our mortality.

But to be able to travel through galaxies, distances we cannot even conceive, that extraterrestrial life form would have reached a type of singularity different from our concept, each according to its physical flaws.

The perfect example of “short observation window” phenomenon is the computer interface technology like DARPA’s ElectRX neural implant program that can heal the soldiers’ bodies and mind, which gives us a clue on how close we are to our singularity. Eventually, those Sci Fi movies where the humanity switches from organic to hardware, aren’t really that far from happening in this rhytm.

In this scenario, by the time an encounter with alien life form will happen, we might be intelligent enough to communicate with one another.

Considering we are just born on this planet, having lived only 0.003% of Earth’s entire history, there definitely has to be alien life forms from thousands to millions of years older than our species.

Taking that into account, an average civilization will use radio for approximately 10.000 years, which makes inevitable the extreme evolution of an extraterrestrial civilization that would come in contact with us. And in that case, a mutually beneficial interaction would be unlikely since we would be irrelevant to their level of existence, like comparing us with the monkeys we identify as biological ancestors.

In the same case of encountering an alien life form evolved to the stage of artificial superintelligence, we do not know how they might perceive our existence if futile or not, over a brief analysis on the Kardashev scale, which means other scenarios where we most likely would meet our demise or enslavery.

White House evades UFO question as Barack Obama 'moves close to X-Files revelation'

The heat is on an official spokesperson in this video as UFO revelations are reported to be on the President's agenda before he leaves offices

This is the moment a White House spokesperson dodges a question about the Roswell incident - only to be warned: "You're not going to get off easy like that."

White House press correspondent April Ryan quizzed press secretary Josh Earnest about the famous incident during a media briefing.

It is the second time the spokesman has come under fire from reporters about UFOsin a week.

Another correspondent had earlier asked Earnest about Area 51 and whether Barack Obama would "beat Hillary Clinton to the punch" by revealing America's secrets about extra-terrestrials.

The questions follow weeks of publicity of the Democratic presidential candidate's pledge to release Government-held UFO files, if she wins the election in November.

Earlier this month, MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell also asked Hillary Clinton's spokesmanBrian Fallon about her being declared the "first ET candidate."

Ryan, who is also Washington bureau chief for American Urban Radio Networks, asked Earnest: "There’s this increased interest in Roswell. You’re doing your dance at the podium about it. Is there a such a thing?

"Are you keeping quiet because of security concerns? Are we to think that there might be life beyond here? You need to answer this."

Earnest, appearing nervous and drinking water after being put on the spot, replied: "I’ll just say, April, there are some questions that even the White House Press Secretary doesn’t have answers to, and this is one of them."

Unhappy with his response, she hits back: "You’re not going to get off easy like that."

The Roswell incident happened in July 1947 when a 'flying saucer' allegedly crashed in the New Mexico desert.

Witnesses claim the military recovered the wreckage and alien bodies but the US Airforce said it was a weather balloon with crash test dummies on board.

Stephen Bassett, America's only lobbyist on the ET/UFO issue, believes President Obama is on the brink of telling the world the truth.

He told Mirror online: "When Andrea Mitchell and April Ryan pressed the White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest for comments on the breaking story about the Clinton/ET/Disclosure/Rockefeller Initiative connection, a milestone was reached.

This campaign issue is now publicly seen as inside the White House. Almost certainly more questions will be raised in the West Wing in the coming weeks."

UFO Spotted by Pilots Near Area of EgyptAir MS804 Crash

Turkish media is reporting that two Turkish Airlines pilots claimed to have seen a UFO with green lights pass over their plane while flying near the area where EgyptAir MS804 mysteriously crashed. The incident occurred on the same day as the tragic crash, with some reports putting the timing of their sighting at just an hour before the EgyptAir plane had its problems. Coincidence, connection or conspiracy?

An unidentified object with green lights passed 2 to 3,000 feet above us. Then it disappeared all of a sudden. We are guessing that it was a UFO.

According to the Turkish news site hurriyetdailynews.com, the pilots stated they were flying at an altitude of about 17,000 feet on a flight that originated in the western Turkish town of Bodrum destined for Istanbul. The UFO incident occurred while they were over the Silivri district of the Istanbul Province outside of metropolitan Istanbul. The plane landed at Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport 30 minutes later without any other incidents.

What pilots see when laser lights are pointed at a plane

What did the Turkish Airlines pilots see that prompted them to report it to the air traffic control center? The General Directorate of State Airports Authority said that nothing was seen on radar. There was some speculation that the sighting was caused by laser pointers from someone on the ground, but pilots are well-trained to spot these and neither pilot said the UFO resembled laser lights. It’s doubtful that trained pilots would mistake reflections in their windows as UFOs either. In fact, they described the green lights as passing over the plane, something that implies a physical object rather than lights.

Could this UFO sighting be related to the EgyptAir crash in some way? According to air traffic control reports, the incident occurred at 11:30 pm on May 19th. The EgyptAir flight disappeared from radar at 2:30 am, also on May 19th. That puts the UFO sighting at 20+ hours AFTER the crash, rather than 30 minutes BEFORE it as some news reports stated. Could the UFO have been an alien craft (remember, it didn’t show up on radar) inspecting the crash site or aiding in the search?

Also, the UFO sighting was about 350 miles from where it’s believed the EgyptAir plane went down, and the sighting was over land. Could the UFO have been leading searchers to the source of what caused the crash, rather than the actual crash site? A missile launch? A person who triggered an explosion on the plane? Some secret weapon?

Too far-fetched? Too conspiratorial? Remember, it’s been over two years since Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 disappeared and we still have no definitive answers.

Let’s hope the black boxes are found and they can identity the cause of the tragic accident. However, if a UFO was involved, will we be told?

NASA Openly Admits Alien Life Exists: Get Ready for Disclosure!

Most people ‘in the know’ realize that NASA is just part of the military industrial complex, but a recent open admission on mainstream news that “there are indications of alien life” is likely the beginning of a bid to get your undivided attention before full-forced disclosure ensues.

Most people already believe what NASA Chief Scientist Ellen Stofan states:

“I think we’re going to have strong indications of life beyond Earth within a decade . . .I think we’re going to have definitive evidence within 20-30 years.”

China Releases Moon Footage of Alien Bases

Dr. Micheal Salla has indicated that there is a Military Industrial Extraterrestrial Complex or MIEC, and that Earth is being assimilated by an alien agenda which also operates on Earth’s Moon.

The photo below is similar to many that I myself have seen. It appears that the Chinese who took the photo, have confirmed that aliens exist. The Chinese have probably been in contact with these aliens already.

That would explain why so many radio telescopes are searching for signals from aliens, and more being built as we speak, yet no reported signals from aliens were reported to the public.

The report stipulates:

Extraterrestrial disclosure lobbyist and activist Stephen Bassett has a theory: She knows more than the rest of us. In an interview with Pacific Standard, he explains the importance of Clinton’s remarks for his political movement, what might happen next, and whether or not we are in imminent danger.

Earlier this week, the New York Times’ Amy Chozick reported on Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton’s belief that alien life may be out there: not just in the over-educated, there’s-definitely-some-lame-bacteria-or-small-space-rodent-in-a-distant-galaxy kind of way, but in a hey-maybe-those-Roswell-guys-were-onto-something kind of way. Clinton’s not closed to the notion that we’ve been visited by intelligent, spacecraft-piloting beings. As Chozick wrote:

In a radio interview last month, she said, “I want to open the files as much as we can.” Asked if she believed in U.F.O.s, Mrs. Clinton said: “I don’t know. I want to see what the information shows.” But she added, “There’s enough stories out there that I don’t think everybody is just sitting in their kitchen making them up.”

When asked about extraterrestrials in an interview with The Conway Daily Sunin New Hampshire last year, Mrs. Clinton promised to “get to the bottom of it.”

“I think we may have been” visited already, she said in the interview. “We don’t know for sure.”

Stephen Bassett, a longtime political activist and Congressional lobbyist for the disclosure of an extraterrestrial presence by the federal government, received short mention in the Times piece. Curious to learn more about his reaction to Clinton’s remarks and his appraisal of her as a candidate from the perspective of someone lobbying for a decidedly non-mainstream issue, I gave him a call.

Less than two hours after leaving him a voicemail, I received a callback and four emails in quick succession, laying out the relevant background. There were links to press coverage of his organization, the Paradigm Research Group, government documents, and a list of 16 detailed questions that he hoped the media would pose to Clinton.

This is the biggest news story in history. And I don’t mean Clinton; I mean the presence of extraterrestrials.

Bassett’s passion is apparent. At the beginning of our conversation, I made the mistake of asking how he first entered the “UFO lobbying game.” He objected to my nomenclature. “First of all, it’s not about UFOs, hasn’t been for some time,” he said. “I have no interest in UFOs. It’s about extraterrestrials and extraterrestrial craft. Lotta syllables, harder to spell, but I’m afraid that’s what it is.”

Russia: EgyptAir Flight Crash Was Struck By Meteorite

A Russian Ministry of Defense report claims that EgyptAir Flight 804 crashed over the Mediterranean Sea due to the aircraft being struck by debris from a large meteorite. 

The Kremlin say that a 10,000 metric tonne meteorite entered the Earth’s atmosphere on May 17, and Russia were the first country to issue a warning about the potential danger it posed to aircraft.

According to this report, on 17 May the Okno optoelectronic space surveillance complex in Tajikistan sent an alert warning to the ADF that it had “detected/discovered” a near Earth asteroid approaching the atmosphere over North America at a speed estimated to be around 67,000 kilometers-per-hour and having an estimated mass of 8,000-10,000 metric tonnes.

Upon its being alerted to this “event/circumstance” by Okno, this report continues, the ADF “redirected/redeployed” a Kanopus satellite to observe this space object and that detected it slamming into the atmosphere above the Northeastern United States—and which was captured on video from an American police car in New York and described as a spectacular fireball.

After this meteorite [actually called a bolide in this report using the astronomy definition of this word] struck the atmosphere over North America, this report notes, it broke up into “many/numerous” pieces with some being ejected into a higher orbital “plane/trajectory” and the largest part falling back to Earth less than 24 hours later when, on 18 May, over the South American nation of Argentina, it exploded upon entering the atmosphere causing tremors to occur too.

With tens-of-thousands (if not hundreds-of-thousands) of this meteorites fragments (estimated to be between 5-60 centimeters) still expected to fall into our Earth’s atmosphere between 18-20 May, this report says, both Okno and Kanopus satellite data determined that the “areas/regions” most likely to affected by this space debris lay between Greenland and Australia due to the original North-South orbit of this meteorite—with the center point being the Levant.

As a number (not identified in this report) of S-400 surface-to-air missile systems [the most capable and lethal long-range air defense missile system on the planet] are currently deployed in Syria, and in fearing that some larger pieces of this meteorite debris failing to burn up in the atmosphere upon reentry could possibly activate them if fallen within their radar range, this report continues, the ADF sent an alert to the commanders of these forces warning them of what could occur.

Less than 48 hours after this ADF warning was issued, however, this report notes, EgyptAir Flight 804 (while over the Mediterranean Sea on its way to Cairo from Paris) apparently flew into the range of this meteorites falling debris where it was struck by fragment causing an explosive decompression of its structure that killed all 66 passengers and crew aboard.

This report further notes that the first report of this planes crashing was received from a Greek merchant vessel that reported that their crew had witnessed a flash in the sky sometime around the moment of EgyptAir’s Flight 804 disappearance—that is eerily similar to a Spanish pilots report that he saw an “intense flash” in the area where Air France Flight 447 came down off the coast of Brazil on 1 June 2009 killing all 228 aboard, and which speculation that it too was brought down by meteorite fragment has been much discussed.

Also important to note about this report is its conclusion, where MoD experts state that the US was alerted by the ADF when the warning was issued to the S-400 commanders [Russian and US commanders talk daily] about the possibility of their encountering falling meteorite debris, but chose not use it for themselves or pass it on to any of their allies—which becomes understandable when viewed in the light of the staggering increase of meteorites hitting our Earth that no one is yet able to explain, and now makes every plane a target.

Project Blue Book: US Air Force UFO documents revealed (well kind of)

The Air Force says this wreckage, recovered near Roswell, New Mexico, came from a radar target!??!?!

Amateur historian John Greenewald has spent nearly two decades requesting declassified information from the US government regarding UFOs.

Recently, he posted more than 100,000 pages of documents on the US Air Force’s internal UFO investigations to the internet. Here are the top five things to know from the open files of Project Blue Book.

1. Project Blue Book had a sizeable mission.

The origins of the ambitious project can be traced to June 1947, UFO researcher Alejandro Rojas tells the BBC.

The editor of Open Minds magazine says a well-respected businessman and pilot, Kenneth Arnold, was flying over Washington state when he witnessed several unidentified flying objects.

Arnold later described the crafts as “skipping like saucers”, which the media adopted and took to calling flying saucers.

This high-profile incident – along with several others, including a rumoured UFO landing in Roswell, New Mexico, the same year – led the Air Force to launch an investigative body.

Named Project Blue Book and headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, the programme was reportedly comprising only a handful of staff.

Nonetheless the group investigated 12,618 UFO sightings in a two-decade period.

2. Project Blue Book was created in a time of public unease

Formed in the years immediately following World War Two, Project Blue Book was intended to stop the spread of public unease about a growing number of reported UFO sightings, including over such landmarks as the White House and US Capitol.

“There was a lot of hysteria with the public, and that to the military and government at the time was a big threat in itself,” Greenewald says. “It didn’t matter if UFOs were alien or not, they were causing a panic, so [the government] had to settle everybody’s nerves.”

Though frequently met with derision today, UFO sightings are said to have been discussed at the top levels of government in the 1940s and 1950s.

“It was taken very seriously back then,” Rojas says, with Central Intelligence Agency chiefs publicly claiming it was a real phenomenon and even then-Congressman Gerald Ford warning it needed to be investigated.

In 1966 a separate Air Force committee was set up to further delve into some of the cases within Project Blue Book. That group later released a report finding no evidence of UFO activity.

Project Blue Book was officially shuttered in 1969.

3. Many of the Project Blue Book cases appear open-and-shut

Though many credible sources, from Navy admirals to military and civilian pilots, reported seeing UFOs, most of the cases investigated by Project Blue Book were deemed caused by weather balloons, swamp gases, meteorological events or even temperature inversions.

In Seattle, Washington, in April 1956, a witness described seeing a “round, white object, one-half the size of the moon … [and] going round and round”, according to documents.

Investigators later concluded it was a meteor and closed the case.

Amateur UFO investigators believe the truth is still out there…the truth is out there!

In January 1961 in Newark, New Jersey, a witness reported viewing a dark grey object “about the size of a jet with no wings”.

That object was later deemed a jet aircraft flying in the area.

4. Some Project Blue Book cases aren’t so easily explained

According to Greenewald and Rojas, more than 700 Project Blue Book entries could not ultimately be explained by investigators. Many such cases cited insufficient data or evidence.

But even some of the closed cases raise more questions than answers for UFO researchers.

In one such example, a police officer in 1964 in Socorro, New Mexico, halted vehicular pursuit of a suspect after he saw a strange aircraft overhead.

The officer followed the craft – which he described as bearing a strange red insignia – and saw it land and two child-sized beings exit.

It later took off, leaving scorch marks and trace evidence on the ground.

“[Project] Blue Book labelled it unexplained; even after all these decades they still can’t explain it,” Greenewald says.

5. There is still information to be uncovered about UFO activity

Though Greenewald has amassed a stockpile of government documents, he says there are still many he – and the public – has not yet accessed.

One request to the National Security Agency yielded hundreds of pages, but they were so redacted only a few words were readable on each page, he says.

Other US government entities – including the Central Intelligence Agency and Defense Intelligence Agency – also conducted UFO investigations that have not been publicly released, Greenewald notes.

“I think Project Bluebook … is simply the tip of the iceberg,” he says, adding he will continue to request more information from the US government.

“There are secrets after conspiracies after scandals that continue to come out,” Greenewald concludes. “There’s always something to go after.”
